On The Walking Dead Season 3 finale, called "Welcome to the Tombs," Rick and the rest of the prison group prepare for an invasion from the Governor, while Andrea fights a war of her own.

The Walking Dead Season 3 finale

As the Sesaon 3 finale of The Walking Dead opens, we are focused on a single eye. The shot widens, and we see the eye belongs to the Governor , and we also see that he is apparently beating someone senseless. Considering that he's had Andrea locked up in his torture chamber for a little while now, the assumption would be that it is her. I had a feeling it wasn't her, but I never in a million years thought it would be Milton .

Last week's recap of The Walking Dead: The ultimate sacrifice>>

So began the most heartbreaking story in this episode. The Governor tries to force Milton to kill Andrea. Milton tries to kill the Governor instead and is mortally wounded. But as he did with Merle, the Governor doesn't finish Milton off. He instead leaves Milton locked in the room with Andrea so that he'll turn into a zombie and kill her. Before dying, Milton tells her he left her a tool she can use to escape. She tries but is unable to get free in time, and though she kills Zombie Milton, it's not before he bites her.

Meanwhile, Rick and the group are preparing to leave the prison, but once again, I knew that not all was as it seemed. The Governor arrives to find the place deserted, but as the Governor's people explore deeper, they find a trap has been set and some of the prison group is still there. They beat a hasty retreat, and he promptly kills almost the entire group as punishment. He then takes off with the last two men he has left — and that is the last we see of him in the episode.

One woman survives the slaughter and is found by Rick, Daryl and Michonne , who were on their way to Woodbury to finish off the Governor. When they hear what he did, they go back instead to warn the people there and also to look for Andrea. They do find Andrea, but she is already burning with fever, and she demands Rick's weapon so she can finish herself off.

Carl has his own story throughout the episode. First we see him angry at his father, but we don't know why. Then it becomes clear that he wanted to stay to defend the prison. When one of the Governor's people — a young man — stumbles across them and tries to give himself up, Carl shoots him without hesitation. Carl claims to his father it was self-defense, but Hershel tells another story. Just when I start to think Carl has completely lost it, he gives Rick an explanation for the killing that sounds almost sane.

Why The Walking Dead wins with women>>

In the end, Rick proves once and for all that he is no longer the cold-blooded man that he was at the beginning of the season. He takes in the Woodbury refugees, and doing so seems to calm his unsettled mind. When he looks up to the catwalk where Lori's ghost has stood to stare at him before, she is suddenly gone. It felt like her absence meant that he had done something right, and I think we may have a sane Rick next season.

My favorite bits

"In this life now, you kill or you die. Or you die and you kill."— That could be the tagline to the entire show.

"He's still a kid. It's easy to forget."The Walking Dead Season 3 finale

The short, sweet moment between Daryl and Carol when she told him that Merle had given them a chance.

Rick telling Michonne that he wouldn't have taken her in without the baby formula, and Michonne pointing out that he could've just taken it.

Finding Milton's death more torturous because of how long it was being dragged out. It was both beautiful and horrible at once.

Milton asking, not telling, Andrea to find something sharp and stab him in the head.

"I'm still here... I'm still alive."
"Yep, you are."— *sniffs* There came the first tears of the episode for me.

Finding out that Rick and his group had set up a booby trap for the Governor and his group. Loved Maggie and Glen in the body armor.

Rick taking a minute to kiss his daughter and hug his son.

"Just the three of us? All right."— Gotta love some badass Daryl.

Two zombies, one slash. Nicely done Michonne!

"No one could make it alone now."
"I never could."

"I just didn't want anyone to die."

Andrea asking for Rick's gun so she could take care of herself.

"I tried."
"You did."

Rick, Tyreese and Daryl waiting outside that door.

Rick looking up and not seeing Lori.

What did you think of The Walking Dead Season 3 finale? Which deaths did you predict? Got any theories on where we'll start out next season?
