Clean home, happier couples

Spending a little extra time sprucing up your space doesn't have to be a drag. In fact, it could even benefit your love life!

In a new survey from popular cleaning brand Liquid-Plumr, women said the positive feelings that resulted from solving household problems could lead to a romantic rendezvous.

Of the 1,000 women ages 18 and older who were interviewed:

  • A third of respondents admitted to fantasizing about their significant other while doing housework.
  • 49 percent of women who took the survey said they were more likely to be intimate after chores had been completed.
  • 38 percent also ranked having their house in order as important as buying a new outfit or being in a familiar place when it comes to relaxing on a date.

Clearly we all want clean, well put together homes. That's certainly not news — but the effects the state of your home can have on your relationship might make you think twice about leaving that load of dishes in the sink for the second night in a row.

It affects men, too

Kelly Dwinells, marketing manager for Liquid-Plumr, said, "Being on top of chores not only resulted in clear drains and scuff-free floors, but women also reported they felt less stress, were less distracted and more relaxed."

"49 percent of women who took the survey said they were more likely to be intimate after chores had been completed."

But this doesn't mean women need to be relegated to the vacuum and duster all day. In fact, a study published by Cambridge University said that men are actually happier when doing housework. In a modern world where more and more women are either the co-contributors or even the sole breadwinners in their households, it's not surprising that more men are willing to divide up the work needed to be done at home.

Rather than one partner having to come home after a long day on the job to deal with a mess in the kitchen or bathroom, take the time to plan out who does what so you can both spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying each other.

So it seems taking the time to make your home look as fabulous as possible not only has a visual appeal but allows you to sit back, relax and enjoy an evening with your significant other.
