calender

The great thing about this craft is that you can customize it completely. The hearts and tags can be made from any kind of fabric, cardstock or wrapping paper you have lying around, and you can use any frame or canvas you have available. Spend the day making this cute calendar with your kids and create a fun way to count down to February 14th!

Supplies:

  • 12 x 12 blank canvas or frame
  • Burlap
  • Heart cookie cutter
  • Patterned cardstock, fabric or wrapping paper
  • Scotch tape
  • Mod Podge glue
  • Glitter
  • Glue gun
  • Twine
  • Mini clothespins
  • Lace doilies
  • Letter & number printouts from 1 - 14

Instructions:

1

Wrap the canvas in burlap and tape it

Wrap the burlap around the canvas and cut a piece to fit .

canvas

Tape the burlap overhang to the back of the canvas. Stretch the burlap when you do this so it's nice and tight.

2

Tape twine and add clothespins

Lay three pieces of twine on the canvas horizontally. You want enough overhang on the twine to tape to the back of the canvas. You want plenty of space between each piece of twine so you can hang the hearts and the tags. Tape the backs of the twine to the canvas so they stick.

tape

Add 14 clothespins on the twine, place them so the clamp side is facing down.

pins

We arranged them in rows of five, four and five, so they were spaced out with plenty of room to spare. After the pins are on, add the lace doily hearts to the top of the burlap in a fun pattern. We added six hearts to the top, alternating the rotation.

3

Trace and cut out hearts and tags

Using the heart cookie cutter, trace out hearts in the patterned cardstock, fabric or paper. We traced on the back of the pattern so there were no visible pen marks on the front.

trace

We traced 11 hearts and three tags. Once they are traced, cut them out.

4

Glue numbers and words to cutouts

Cut out your printed numbers . Glue the numbers directly to the cutouts or glue them onto other fun patterned cardstock for a unique look.

tags

Step 5: Customize with glitter and patterns

Using the Mod Podge, add glue to the center of the doilies on the top. Add glitter and blow the excess off. Add additional glitter to other tags as well, if you'd like.

hearts

Then, hang all the tags and hearts from the clothespins in numerical order and hang or position the masterpiece in your favorite room!
