Roseanne Barr, long absent from network sitcoms, makes a return to television comedy with a guest role helping to wind up the last season of The Office.
NBC said that Barr will be Carla Fern, a talent agent who agrees to take on office manager Andy Barnard as a client as he tries to make the jump from business to the boards.
Office watchers will remember that Barnard was always a bit of a wannabe, taking on various performance gigs from his a cappella group Here Comes Treble to a local theater staging of Sweeney Todd.
NBC didn't say whether Barr will be on hand for the series finale. NBC execs have already let drop that a long-running cast member will be fired in Episode 15, due to air Feb. 14. Could it be Andy, cut loose from The Office for good?
Mindy Kaling returning for The Office finale?>>
The Office showrunner Greg Daniels told the entertainment press in January that Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak will return for the one-hour finale; Steve Carell, however, will not: "Steve is very much of the opinion that the 'Goodbye Michael' episode and the story arc that we did leading up to it was his goodbye and end to the show and that [this season] is the goodbye the rest of the show gets to have," reported Splitsider.
Ken Kwapis, who directed The Office's pilot, will also return for the finale. You may know Kwapis' other work, like a little show called Freaks and Geeks. He also directed some of the best Office episodes, like 2006's "Gay Witch Hunt," in which we learn Oscar is gay.
Barr, who briefly returned to television with the somewhat-beloved-but-canceled Roseanne's Nuts, has been doing a stand-up comedy act in Vegas of late. She'll be at the Tropicana Laugh Factory for a bunch of dates in February.
