It has been more than a week since singer Jenni Rivera’s plane crashed in Mexico, killing all on board. The family has announced a memorial service for the singer in the Los Angeles area.
The service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Los Angeles Gibson Amphitheater. According to Billboard, the singer’s brother, Pedro Rivera Jr, will be leading the ceremony. While the memorial will be more of a public event, the family has said that the burial services for Jenni Rivera will be held privately.
"The Rivera family appreciates all the love given to our beloved Jenni Rivera," the family said in a statement to Billboard.
Rivera was born in the Long Beach, California area and became a star in the "regional Mexican genre" according to Billboard. She died at the age of 43 on Dec. 9. The plane that crashed was also carrying six members of her entourage.
"The Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, according to published reports, has been investigating the Las Vegas-based Starwood Management," said Billboard, "who owned the plane that crashed in Mexico and which had two planes seized by the agency in Arizona and Texas this year."
And Rivera wasn’t just a singer. She also had a reality show, radio show and created a line of beauty products.
"Most recently, Billboard reported that Rivera's album sales rose 334% to 6,000 copies," said the music industry magazine. "Joyas Prestadas: Pop nearly quadrupled, going 28-2 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart while sales for Joyas Prestadas: Banda went 39-4 on the chart. Rivera's downloads also increased 1,096% to 12,000, with 11 debuts or re-entries on the Regional Mexican Digital Songs chart."
Rivera left behind many family members, including five children. Many of her siblings are also singers and her father is singer and composer Pedro Rivera.
