Scotty McCreery has had a good couple of years. After winning the tenth season of American Idol in 2011, he was shot into the world of stardom and hasn’t looked back. His first studio album came in at number one just five months after winning Idol, and he soon set off on a tour with Brad Paisley.
McCreery spoke with SheKnows on the red carpet of the American Country Awards about being given two of the greatest honors of his life. The singer performed at Christmas in Washington and had a chance to meet President Obama.
"That was huge," he said. "We got the chance to go out there and meet the pres and sing for the pres. It was a little more nerve-racking than most shows, but the president was cool and he was just there for the music and there for the celebration of Christmas, so it was fun."
He also had a chance to meet singer Diana Ross at the concert.
"Never met her, she’s a legend," he said. "It’s always pretty shocking when you get to meet somebody like that. She was incredible, I got chills listening to her."
McCreery also talked about life on the road with a country legend and how it helped him grow as an artist.
"Getting to go on the road with Brad Paisley and see all the fans out there January through October, that was pretty special for me," he said. "I learned a lot from Brad and The Band Perry, that was probably the highlight of 2012 for me."
McCreery released a Christmas album on Oct. 16 and is looking forward to 2013. He says that , "If 2013 happens, I’ll be putting out a new album."
