Science fiction lovers will know him for his role as Pavel Chekhov in Star Trek Into Darkness, 2009's Star Trek reboot. Or perhaps you remember him for his likable on-screen presence in movies and TV shows such as ER, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Alpha Dog and Only Lovers Left Alive. But to much of Hollywood, 27-year-old Anton Yelchin was a bright young actor whose death in a freak accident today left those lucky enough to know him heartbroken and in shock.

Yelchin had quite a successful career since moving to the United States from Russia as an infant with his parents, Irina and Viktor Yelchin, who were both figure skaters. Sadly, according to TMZ, Yelchin's 5,000-pound Jeep rolled into him when it was in neutral, killing the actor as it pinned him against a pillar.

Those who had known and loved working with Yelchin shared their shock at his death and their admiration for the young actor.

ARIES (March 19 - April 18)
Image: SheKnows

The sun moves into that part of your solar chart that pertains to home and family on June 20. This signals that it's time to bring to an end your travels and your quests (at least for now) and return to the castle to take care of business. Maybe there's a loved one who's feeling neglected, a garden that's become overgrown or a household fixture in desperate need of improvement. You may not like the enforced stay — people born under Aries are naturally restless — but you'll get into it. You may even be willing to beat your sword into a ploughshare by month's end.

TAURUS (April 19 - May 19)
Image: SheKnows

This is not a good week for aggressive financial negotiations. Mercury at cosmic crosscurrents with Saturn, Neptune and Jupiter shows that you either have an inflated sense of your own value or you're receiving some pretty bad advice. Everyone feels like they deserve more and there's nothing wrong with wanting more. However, the business world is defined by things like budgets, sustainable income and market value. Placing an arbitrary figure on something you're selling sets you up for a rude awakening with someone who's buying. Do yourself a favor and readdress this when the planets aren't so distorted. Prospects look much better in September.

You'll be delighted to learn that someone actually listened to your advice and that it worked. How will you know? Because this fellow will come look you up and thank you himself on June 26. You'll be bowled over — and maybe even a tad embarrassed — by his gushing praise and gratitude. Nevertheless, it will be one of those moments that makes you love what you do. However, there will be one drawback and that will be that you honestly can't remember what you gave him advice about. It's a real bummer too because it sounds like something you could use yourself right now.

Why is it that everyone else can tell you all about their extramarital affairs, their Machiavellian politicking at work and how they secretly siphoned off monies that didn't exactly belong to them, but when you muse aloud about doing something that smacks of self-interest they recoil in horror and respond with shock and outrage? It's called a double standard. You may not like how this all plays out on June 20 when there's a full moon in Sagittarius, but that's what comes of being everyone's moral compass. It's your job to always take the high road — which is probably a timely message if you think about it.

The Jupiter/Pluto trine on June 26 shows that you are on solid ground, money-wise. It took a while to get your financial house in order but you've succeeded. You have a solid foundation and can proceed with confidence. This is a good time to apply for a loan, refinance or renegotiate the terms to a contract or lease. You look good on paper and it will result in a swift approval. The only worrisome note is that Mars is still retrograde. This could materialize as an unforeseen cost or unexpected penalty, so don't finalize anything until after it reverses direction on June 30.

You were born under the zodiac sign of the reformer. You can spot the soul of a saint buried beneath the skin of a sinner and you will work tirelessly to help that person realize his inner potential. But sometimes in your mission to help you can get so fixated on your idea of what you think is best that you miss out on the fact that this is still a choice that each person must make on his own. It may be disillusioning to discover that you can't turn geese into swans on June 25, but it could also come as a relief.

You're going to have to give to get if you want a business venture to be successful. Otherwise it won't go beyond where it is now. This could mean paying employees more, upping a backer's percentage or volunteering to take a smaller piece of the pie. Libra is the sign of partnerships and partnerships are a two-way street. Yours has gotten a bit too one-sided lately. These sorts of things happen when Mars is traveling backwards through that part of your solar chart that pertains to finances, but you can remedy it easily enough. Be more generous and you'll reap higher dividends in return.

It's hard to feel centered when you feel pulled in four conflicting directions. Your money doesn't support your aspirations, your aspirations look totally divorced from your circumstances, your circumstances genuflect to your obligations and your obligations are such that you can't even see how you could make money doing the things you know you were meant to do. Obviously this isn't a time to make any big decisions. A good way to navigate this predicament is to leave the options right where they are. Sit with the dilemma and let it speak to you. In the past, this would have resulted in a hastily arranged loan or begging a favor from a friend, but this time the planets show you securing a job with real promise. Well, not only will it be recognized, but you'll receive the bonus, raise or promotion that goes along with it. This will feel tremendously gratifying so let yourself bask in the moment. However, public opinion can also be like junk food. It can stimulate the taste buds while delivering information that has little (if any) nutritional value. June 25 will be an upsetting day. This is when the moon occults Neptune, thereby lifting the veil and affording you a glimpse of what's going on behind the scenes. This could materialize as an email that was sent to you by accident, an overheard snippet of conversation or even a vivid dream that doesn't fade. You're used to dealing with people's confidences and secrets, but it's rare when you're the subject of them. The best thing to do is to divulge what you've learned. It will be awkward, but remember that the onus is on the other person to explain himself, and not on you.

Commitment issues may have caused Demi Lovato & Wilmer Valderrama's split

If he liked it, then he should've put a ring on it! Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama told fans they decided to break up after six years of dating because they realized they were "better as best friends," as they said in a statement. However, a new report claims that commitment issues are what really caused the pair's split.

More: Demi Lovato's tribute to her late great-grandma will make you cry

Lovato reportedly wanted to tie the knot with Valderrama, but he wasn't ready to commit, according to a report by OK! magazine.

"Demi wanted a ring, but Wilmer wasn't ready to get married," a source said. "She didn't want to wait around anymore, so they decided to part ways."

More: Demi Lovato advocated for trans rights at the BBMAs like the badass she is

News that Lovato reportedly wanted to get married to Valderrama isn't too surprising. When Lovato was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2016, DeGeneres asked her about rumors that she was already engaged to the actor.

"I don't see a ring. I wouldn't mind if I saw one," Lovato said with a laugh. "But there's time for everything. You know, we've been together this long, and it's like, obviously I'm not going anywhere and vice versa."

The pair announced their split with a statement on social media at the beginning of June 2016: "After almost six loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship. This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years."

More: Apparently Nick Jonas has a hard time singing when it's hot

One of Lovato's other best friends, Nick Jonas, also recently opened up about the pair's split, saying that it came at the right time.

"I've built an amazing friendship with Wilmer over the years and I have so much love for him," Jonas told Entertainment Tonight. "Demi is one of my closest friends in the world, so I'm here for her and for both of them, really."

Jonas also said that since he and Lovato are about to head out on their Future Now tour, "it's probably the best timing for everybody."

Quit focusing on Giada De Laurentiis on Food Network Star

0
0

More: Guy Fieri made nachos in a trash can, and they look surprisingly good

We are now nicely ensconced in Season 12 of Food Network Star, and the competition for the next show on Food Network is intense. On Sunday's new episode (tailgate challenge!), the judges showed former model Monterey Salka the door. This week's judges included guests Katie Lee and Robert Irvine as well as regular hosts Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis. Many viewers were annoyed by Monterey's exit — they'd much rather have seen the seemingly indestructible Ana Quincoces go — but there were also those who remained singularly fixated on De Laurentiis, for reasons I don't completely understand.

More: Bobby Flay's recipe for cooking success

De Laurentiis has been a focus of Food Network viewers for a long time, for reasons that are almost exclusively sexist and that regularly dominate the conversation around her co-hosting of Food Network Star. These hits include: she's too attractive, she's too thin, she wears shirts that are cut too low, she "pays her bills with her boobs" (cool story, person who tweeted that), she probably threatened to quit the show unless there was at least one attractive Italian dude competing, she shows favoritism (à la Kody Brown) toward contestants who make Italian food. So, you know, the usual constructive feedback that comes from the internet.

I get that the relationship between De Laurentiis and Flay is the subject of gossip; they may or may not be or have been in some kind of tryst off camera, especially since both of them are now divorced from their respective spouses. But most of the time, what people are saying about De Laurentiis has nothing to do with that. Seeing as her job and Flay's job is to judge a competition show about food, I'm not sure how a person's breasts, or what she's doing or not doing with them, are relevant. The comments about De Laurentiis aren't all that different from those made about Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi regarding sexiness and fawning over male contestants. I have yet to see a Twitter feed about either show that consists of people accusing Flay or Tom Colicchio of the same things. I know it's a reality show, thus containing reality show elements, but you don't need to talk about a woman's breasts to stay on message. This is a show about people who are interested in food, who want a show on Food Network and who also occasionally talk smack about their competition. Say what you want about that, but Giada De Laurentiis' body or her relationship status has nothing to do with who wins. She's a chef with a successful career. Let's just keep our eyes on the ball, OK? Just the ball. Nothing else.

RHOD Brandi Redmond's kids don't deserve to pay for her mistakes

When Maci Bookout freaked out about Farrah Abraham returning to Teen Mom, I thought she was being completely ridiculous. She admitted that she was worried about her son being bullied due to his association with Abraham, who has been involved in some very controversial adult-entertainment gigs. At the time, I doubted that anybody would make fun of Bookout's son for this reason, but over a year later, I'm far more sympathetic.

More: Maybe LeeAnne Locken isn't the evil queen of RHOD fans thought she was

It took a sad confession from Real Housewives of Dallas star Brandi Redmond for me to empathize with Bookout and her family. For Redmond, the problem was not her association with a controversial reality star, but rather, her own controversial behavior on RHOD. She was certainly not subdued on the show: she constantly talked about poop and Jesus juice. Evidently, the administration at her kids' private school did not approve of her behavior, to the point that they decided to kick her kids out!

More: I was so wrong about Brandi Redmond and LeeAnne Locken's friendship on RHOD

From what little I've seen of Redmond's children, they are an absolute delight. They do not deserve to be mistreated simply because their mother behaved childishly on camera. There's probably more to this situation than meets the eye, and for all I know, Redmond's kids were every bit as obnoxious at school as their mom can be at charity galas. However, from the sounds of it, they are being punished merely because their mother has run into some bad press.

I'm certainly not the only person who takes issue with Redmond's poor children being kicked out of school through no fault of their own. After hearing this little tidbit during tonight's RHOD reunion, several annoyed viewers spoke out.

From the viewer's perspective, RHOD and all other Real Housewives shows take place in their own bubble, which is rarely touched by the outside world. The housewives' experiences just seem so foreign to the average viewer. But tonight's confession from Redmond is evidence that, as much as we like to think of reality TV as scripted, there is some element of reality. I hope that following this rough spot, Redmond's adorable children are able to get the education they deserve.

Seeing the Winterfell flag fly on Game of Thrones was so sexually gratifying

0
0

Please keep in mind as I write this review for Game of Thrones' "Battle of the Bastards," I just finished watching the episode, oh, about 10 minutes ago, so my heart is racing, my blood is pounding and my brain is hurting. And I love it.

More: Please tell me Jon Snow isn't going to die on Game of Thrones... again

WARNING: Do not continue reading unless you, like me, can't contain yourself after tonight's episode of Game of Thrones, and need to keep the conversation going because it really was that good. That being said, spoilers ahead.

Tell me a battle scene that was better than this. I dare you. Try to come up with one.

There is nothing, nothing in the history of film and television that can compare to the way Game of Thrones made the Battle of the Bastards feel so personal. The show put us up close and front and center to Jon's entire experience. We felt Rickon's death as Jon felt it. When Jon began cutting down men, our muscles twitched with him. When Jon was suffocating between men as he started losing the battle, we struggled to catch our breath. And when he was being trampled by soldiers we felt the disoriented toss and turn of panic.

These epic scenes were a culmination of gorgeous cinematography, clever and realistic CGI, on-par acting (go Kit Harrington!) and superb direction and editing. Now that's how you make history in television. This episode alone has earned Game of Thrones all the Emmys, in my opinion. Everyone go home. This year is done. Over. It just doesn't get any better.

More: Natalie Dormer doesn't think Game of Thrones is revolutionary for women

Of course, it did get better.

It got infinitely better.

Because, as we all know now, Jon and Sansa won the battle.

The moment that Stark flag dropped over the gates of the castle, was the moment that just sealed this episode in memory for me. We've been waiting since Season 1 to see that flag fly once again on the gates of Winterfell, and to see that victory made all the sacrifice worth it.

Yes, Rickon's death was terrible and horrifying, but as the show's creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, said in the after-show, once Ramsay got his hands on him, there was really no other way it could go for him. He was lost to the Starks, but his death was not in vain because he died in the effort to preserve his family's name.

More: Who needs dragons when GoT's Daenerys is such a badass all on her own?

After that episode, I think we all deserve a moment of happiness. Let's bask in the fact that the Starks are back in Winterfell and all is right in Westeros, or getting right.

Was this your favorite episode in Game of Thrones history or what?

In March, Young's Laker teammate D'Angelo Russell unknowingly filmed Young, who was already engaged to Azalea at the time, talking about cheating on his fiancé. Kudos to Azalea for trying not to let a scandal bring her relationship down. Unfortunately, they threw in the towel this weekend.

I know I'm gay, but being out doesn't mean I accept myself

I write about a lot of personal issues — mental health and surviving sexual abuse — but I tend to omit mentions of my sexual orientation. I am a lesbian, but I struggle with this part of my identity. On one hand, it’s not something I can change; it’s simply part of who I am, and I’ve been out for more than 15 years. On the other, this isn’t the life I imagined, especially as I attempt to untangle sexuality after sexual abuse.

The moment I knew I was gay, I was at the grocery store with my mom when a girl in cargo pants and a white tank top breezed through. I followed her with my eyes, smitten. The words formed in my head: I’m gay. I was 12 years old. I knew the word, but it didn’t sink in right away. I came out to a few friends my freshman year of high school a couple years later, but it didn't make much difference. It was the late 1990s in rural Pennsylvania and I had a conservative family. Where I’m from, being gay isn’t something you were.

More: Hiding my sexuality in the south felt like the right thing to do — until it didn't

My sexual confusion made me vulnerable to a sexually abusive relationship with a much older man (and teacher). I believed this trusted adult when he said I loved him. I still had crushes on female classmates, but he represented the "normal" I saw reflected all around me: heterosexuality. It wasn’t hard to lure me into his trap.

Eventually, I called off this abusive relationship, partially by admitting I thought I was gay, and entered that beautiful time of self-discovery in college. For the first time, I met other lesbians and was able to talk openly about my identity. I fell in love with a woman for the first time. I finally explored my true identity. I came out to most of my friends, enjoying the ability to freely tell people who I am. But the joy and freedom didn’t last long.

I found myself in a serious relationship with a girl I loved, but I knew my parents didn’t want me to be gay. Being the traditional people they were, my parents sat me down and said that while they still loved me they wouldn’t do anything to support this part of my life. Their reaction wasn't a surprise, but it created internal shame.

The nail in the coffin came from my abuser. After reporting him, I testified at several hearings to speak against his ability to have any contact with young people. Reliving years of trauma in a court-like setting is an excruciating experience in itself, and I don't remember much of what happened. I do remember the punch-in-the-gut moment when my abuser's attorney hinged his argument on my sexuality: "It is our belief this witness is a lesbian and has therefore fabricated a heterosexual relationship."

More: Laverne Cox reveals one major misconception about trans people

In that moment, the small ray of pride I had crumbled. My lesbianism was thrown in my face, used to break me down. I didn't falter in the moment, largely thanks to the attorney in charge of prosecuting my abuser, but I still haven't recovered. Now, being a lesbian seemed both shameful and downright dangerous — something that could be used against me. I didn't want this identity.

While I never outright denied my sexuality, I didn't offer it up anymore either. I was essentially back in the closet.

Five years later, I was watching the TV show Glee when one of the female characters, Santana, came out as gay, and the moment struck an emotional chord: That's who I am, who I am supposed to be. I was tired of carrying around an internal homophobia that didn't belong to me. It was the first time I considered my sexuality in years, and suddenly it was all-consuming. I had to find some way back to comfort — if not pride — in who I am.

I’m out to my family, friends, most coworkers and in my writing when I broach the subject. But I still have a ways to go before fully accepting myself. I feel self-conscious discussing women I might find attractive, and I talk about past girlfriends in gender-neutral terms to avoid outing myself (even though people already know I'm gay). While my parents have come around, it's still not an easy topic to talk about openly. I'm not ready to date again yet, and going to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender events evokes a boatload of anxiety. But I’ve finally started talking about it again.

More: Your rainbow flag isn't helping your LGBT friends as much as you think

Many LGBT people struggle with their identity and coming out, and they're not alone. I certainly have and do. Even though I've technically been out for years, self-acceptance hasn't come easy and it's something I build every day. However, I know working through my ambivalence on being gay will also lead me to a place of deep self-acceptance, even if it happens long after I have come out. And that's something I can look forward to.

Teen Mom 2's Kailyn Lowry owned right up to her plastic surgery fail

Did you notice something different about Kail Lowry on the Teen Mom 2 reunion? You weren't the only one! Fans called out Lowry over her plump lips, which seemed to have grown in size between parts one and two of the show. Lowry admitted that she had gotten fillers — but her lips didn't turn out quite as she expected.

More: Wait, did Teen Mom 2 fans actually just agree with Jenelle Evans?

"Tried to get lip fillers and had a reaction!," she wrote on Twitter. "You should have seen them without lipstick."

Fans replied with words of encouragement and advice, reminding her to be more careful next time she gets a procedure: "It takes a few weeks for the swelling to go down. Give it time you're beautiful either way."

The Daily Mail reports that Lowry has also had a Brazilian butt lift, liposuction, a tummy tuck and breast implants. Dr. Miami, the infamous plastic surgeon who Snapchats his surgeries, did her "mommy makeover," for which Lowry appeared on his social media.

Lowry isn't the first Teen Mom to have lip injection issues. Farrah Abraham ended up on Botched after an allergic reaction to injectables swelled her lips to twice their size. She, too, didn't seem too upset by the whole ordeal, tweeting "Girlfriends don't say I didn't warn ya!"

Take Selma Blair's medicine mishap to heart because it can happen to anyone

Most of us know that mixing pills and booze isn't a great idea, but sometimes mix-ups happen and they can lead to some strange behavior, as shown by actress Selma Blair's recent meltdown on an airplane.

"Super bad day" was how Blair described her erratic behavior on a recent flight. Witnesses said they saw her mixing wine and an unidentified drug before exclaiming, "He burns my private parts. He won’t let me eat or drink. He beats me. He’s going to kill me.” Her alarming statements got her a ride straight to the hospital after deplaning, but today she apologized saying she blacked out and doesn't actually remember any of the incident.

More: We love Bella Thorne's honesty about her crappy health issues

But while many people are judging Blair for her rookie mistake, it's one that a lot of people make, especially since alcohol interacts with so many common medications. And I think we can all say that even if we've never personally made this mistake ourselves, we've seen someone who's obliviously taken an antidepressant, a muscle relaxant, an allergy pill or even an OTC pain med with their drink to ill effect. At worst, mixing drugs and booze (especially prescription pain pills) can lead to death or serious medical complications, but most of the time it's like Selma, random ranting on a plane. It's easy to sit back and judge a celebrity for a very public screwup, but honestly her incident falls barely above a nip slip and way below Ben cheating on Jen.

Not convinced? Here are four women on their own Super Bad Days:

Seeing fireworks

"I unintentionally mixed pain meds and alcohol on the 4th of July. It made for the best fireworks celebration ever! I kept ooh'ing and aah'ing while pointing at the sky and exclaiming how pretty all the lights were," says Kris Olson. "Only problem was, the fireworks show hadn't actually start yet!"

A Christmas blackout

"I was having some back pain and my doctor prescribed muscle relaxants. I’d never taken them before, so when I went to Christmas dinner at my parents' house I thought nothing of accepting a glass of wine with dinner," says one woman who wished to stay anonymous. "All I remember after that is feeling really drowsy during dinner and moving to the couch to nap, but according to my husband, I propositioned him in the bathroom of my parents house, offered to give him a blow job (and performed!), then fell asleep on the bathroom floor. I had to be carried to the car to be driven home. All this from one glass of wine…"

Depression intensified

"My doctor warned me not to drink while taking my antidepressant because it could intensify it, but I was 18 and in college and not about to give up drinking forever because I have a mental illness," says an anonymous woman. "But it turns out, when he said intensify, he meant the depression not the medication because I was a hot mess. My friends found me sobbing and crying about how awful my life was. I don't remember any of it."

Just like Bridesmaids

"I've taken lots of prescription meds while drinking in the past — it leads to blackouts and crying fits and emotional outbursts I don't recall the next day," says Mariel Brown, adding that she really relates to Blair's story. "Anyone ever watch the movie Bridesmaids? Yeah, alcohol and anti-anxiety meds don't mix!"

Kate Middleton's secret revealed — how does William cope?

0
0

She has the world's most perfect hair, a perfect wardrobe, a perfect husband and perfect children, but there is one thing that Kate Middleton has not quite perfected.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out for a special formal summer dinner to benefit the East Anglia's Children's Hospices, and while the menu at the event was provided by five Michelin-star chefs, it was Kate's cooking skills — or lack thereof — that drew the laughs.

More: Prince William's gay magazine cover is a huge step for the royals

"William has to put up with my cooking most of the time," Kate told the chefs.

William added, "It's the reason I'm so skinny."

What? There is something in this world that Kate cannot pull off with perfect aplomb? I don't believe it for a second.

It's not as if she doesn't get enough practice. While the couple does employ a nanny and a housekeeper at their royal residences, both at Kensington Palace and their country home at Anmer Hall, they do not employ a cook, and Kate by all accounts is in charge of family meal times.

More: The Obamas are coming for dinner, but Prince George DGAF

"Aides insist there is no in-house chef — Kate loves to cook, and she has been spotted buying local produce at Back to the Garden," Vanity Fair claimed in a recent article about the royals. "Mealtimes are hectic family occasions with pots of food served straight to the table."

One of the first candid shots of Kate taken after she gave birth to Prince George was of her doing the grocery shopping near the couple's former home at Anglesey, and she was often seen at U.K. grocer Waitrose stocking up on essentials like chicken, lettuce, bananas, milk, potatoes, oranges and ice cream.

There was nothing quite like the orgy I had for my 20th birthday

0
0

I didn’t set out to have an orgy on my 20th birthday, but that’s exactly what happened. We didn't have what you might picture as wild and crazy porn star sex, but elation and orgasms were had, which is pretty much the best birthday present ever. You see, I've had a strong sexual curiosity for as long as I can remember, and how group sex on my birthday unfolded so spontaneously was pure magic.

I was living in Baltimore, Maryland at the time, working and going to art school. To celebrate my special day, I gathered all my favorite people for a soirée at my house. What started out as a night of eating, drinking and dancing in the living room, ended up on my bedroom floor. One minute, the group was getting down to Deee-Lite’s "Groove Is in the Heart;" the next moment, it was a hot and sweaty tangle of bodies. I don't recollect the aha moment that prompted us to retreat upstairs, though I get goosebumps every time I think of the sexual chemistry that pulsed through my body as we giggled and held hands and paraded up the curved staircase. Among the group sex participants was my boyfriend at the time, a one-night stand turned close friend, a female classmate I was wildly attracted to, among others. It was a moment of pure carnal pleasure.

More: To heck with that whole 'you have to love yourself first' rule

When we got to my bedroom, I felt a twinge of initial hesitance. I was in a monogamous relationship and extracurricular activities had never been discussed. So, here, in the heat of the moment, my partners were trying to read and assure each other that everything would be OK. There was no time to address boundaries, so I played it safe, sticking to kissing and touching. I stuck to no penetration beyond my partner, which seemed to make all parties involved happy. (I've since mastered the art of sexual negotiation. Nowadays, all of these details are hammered out in advance.) Others kissed, touched and sucked, all of which was all highly arousing.

It was like a mixed-up jigsaw puzzle having familiar hands and mouths all over my body — in an upside down context. When my gal pal started going down on my boyfriend, there was nothing weird or awkward about it. Everything was in sync. Lovers past and present co-mingled without skipping a beat. The timing and circumstances were serendipitous.

When it was all said and done, most of the guests went home. My boyfriend crawled into my bed and the remaining few house guests slipped away to their respective sleeping spaces. It was all quite civilized. The following morning, there was no awkwardness. Instead, an empowering sense of satisfaction. There's so much shame surrounding being sexual — at any age — so I applaud my friends for being open-minded and exploratory, especially given our lack of experience at the time.

When I woke up next to my boyfriend, we giggled about our group sex antics. We touched base with each other, to make sure we were both OK with what happened (we were), then had incredible sex — fueled by whatever sexual energy was remaining.

More: 68 sex positions to try before you die

I'm sure it was the first time any one of us had navigated such a free-flowing sexual landscape. I'd swapped spit with women in college and had one clumsy threesome, but the fluidity of this group dynamic was brand new to me. In retrospect, it could've crashed and burned in so many ways. Feelings could have been hurt and friendships wrecked. The merging of sexual partners — past and present — could've incited jealousy. Despite no prior plan or conversation, safe sex was practiced.

Knowing what I know now about negotiating sex, consent and boundaries, it's a miracle we all walked away safe, sated and happy. Two decades later, I'm still friends with most of the players of that hot, erotic night. We joke about that night from time to time, blushing before breaking out into an ear-to-ear smile. If there's any one big takeaway from that evening, it was pure sexual fun.

My 20th birthday may be in the rear view mirror of celebrations at this stage of my life, but it's a standout in my personal timeline of debauchery. As much as I almost always have a plan, occasionally the best sexual experiences happen organically. Bonus if they’re with people you like and respect.

Rihanna is definitely going through something tough but keeping it under wraps

Rihanna had a complete emotional breakdown during a live show. What is going on with the singer?

After starting a concert in Dublin, Ireland on her Anti World Tour a half hour late, Rihanna promptly lost her composure as the first strains of "Love the Way You Lie" began to play. Her audience, quickly picking up on her emotional state, took over the job for her, singing along loudly.

Why so emotional? Well, the song itself is a touchy subject for the star. It alternates between Eminem rapping about being a domestic abuser and beating the crap out of his girlfriend (for the purposes of the song, that's Rihanna) and Rihanna making excuses for him. Pretty heavy stuff, especially considering her own domestic violence background with Chris Brown.

So, did her memories of what happened during her relationship with Brown just happen to overwhelm her at that exact moment? Twitter has some theories.

Regardless of the reason, RiRi was super grateful for the help. "I only have ever in my life heard an audience of people scream so loud that they sound like one voice and that only happens in Ireland, in Dublin," she told the audience. "Thank you so much."

Rihanna only made the briefest of mentions about the incident on social media.

11 rules for taking care of Growing Up McGhee's sextuplets

0
0

When the parents are away, the sextuplets will play.

Ro and Mia McGhee left town for a nine-day cruise on tonight's episode of Growing Up McGhee. Luckily, Grandma and nanny Boogie were there to take care of the sextuplets, but not without the help of some steadfast rules.

More: 12 things I learned on Growing Up McGhee this week

1. Food must be on time

These kids like their pizza, and it had better be ready when they get home from school or there'll be hell to pay.

2. Get organized

Charts and to-do lists are your friend.

3. Never leave the house without a key

Even if you're just going in the backyard. Why? Because the kids will lock you out, of course.

4. Head counts are vital

With six 5-year-olds, losing one is definitely a possibility.

5. Bedtime is set... kinda

The sextuplets go to bed at 8:00 p.m., but Grandma admits that when she's around, 8:00 p.m. is more like 8:30 or 9:00.

More: Growing Up McGhee's premiere just gave me a bad case of anxiety

6. It takes two

One babysitter ain't gonna cut it. These kids are active and ready to move. To make sure they get properly taken care of, the McGhees hired Grandma plus their nanny/babysitter Boogie.

7. There is no quiet

Grandma loves to yell "quiet" at the kids. Unfortunately, with six of them, quiet is never really an option.

8. Grab the spoon

Grandma holds the spoon as a threat. Don't worry, there's no actual hitting with the spoon. It's more of just a symbol and apparently, it works.

9. Activities are key

These kids are active and they need to stay busy. Entertainment is vital for a happy household, which is why crafts are great, like making welcome-home signs for Mom and Dad.

10. Breaks keep you sane

School is a blessing in disguise because it means a break from the kids, and that's a good thing. Spending all that energy all the time to manage those children would drive anyone to the breaking point. Hence the cruise.

11. Love is most important

Because there are six of them, it's important to remember that each and every one needs affection and love to feel special. Luckily, they have a loving family that excels at individualizing their children as well as teaching them the importance of teamwork.

Forget American Gothic's Silver Bells serial killer, let's worry about Jack

0
0

If you're looking for a TV show about a serial killer that is filled with creepy characters and a huge mystery, then CBS' American Gothic just might be the perfect fit. Wednesday's premiere of the new 13-part murder mystery definitely caught my attention, but not because of the Silver Bells serial killer.

More: Stop messing with us, Paget Brewster! Are you returning to Criminal Minds?

I know, a killer with that name (who is known for strangling six victims between 1999 and 2002) should have my utmost attention, but I'm having a hard time focusing on him/her/they, when little boy Jack Hawthorne is freaking me out — big time.

First, let's talk about his obsession with death. Look, it's great he is planning his life and has a passion to become a medical examiner, but watching Jack draw disturbing images of dead bodies is a whole other story. Thankfully, his father, Cam (played by Shameless' Justin Chatwin) recognizes his son has some major issues. As he told his possible soon-to-be ex-wife, "I think there’s something wrong with Jack."

You think? It's not that Jack took the neighbor's cat and cut its tail off or anything. Oh wait, he did. And it's not like he drew a photo of how he hoped to surgically remove all of its limbs. Oh wait, he did. And it's not like he didn't ask his father to watch the cat's tail be sewn back on. Oh wait, he did. Right there spells major trouble for Jack. I can only imagine what's to come for him.

Jack Hawthorne

More: NCIS' boss just gave us a spark of hope that Ziva is still alive

However, I do know that the Hawthornes may need to be more worried about Jack than with the Silver Bells killer. Granted, the serial killer could possibly be one of their family members, but Cam had better get a hold of Jack, stat, or things could take a really bad turn.

Although, I fear he won't get a handle on him, especially now that Cam and his siblings' father died at the end of the episode at the hands of their mother, Maddie. Plus, Cam and his sisters are trying to figure out if one of their loved ones truly is the Silver Bells killer. The Hawthornes definitely have a lot of skeletons in their closet and are hiding some deep, dark secrets.

Seeing as this is only the first episode, I'm sure only more bad things are to come — and probably from Jack.

American Gothic airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on CBS.

The Night Shift's fictionalization of Ferguson events really made me squirm

0
0

America has seen some pretty traumatic events in the last year. From Ferguson to Baltimore to Orlando, pressure is at an all-time high for people to have important conversations about race, sexuality and basic human rights. So it was only a matter of time before those storylines started bleeding into our favorite TV dramas, like The Night Shift.

More: The Night Shift Season 2: Keep us hooked, tone it down

Tonight, the show covered a riot that broke out because a white cop shot a young black man. And even though the show is fiction, the conversation they had and the opinions the characters gave could have been pulled directly from Twitter or any news outlet. While I watched it, I understood why the writers wanted to cover the topic of police murders, but the whole episode made me really uncomfortable.

I wasn’t uncomfortable with the subject matter, because it’s clearly a conversation our country needs to continue to have. It just didn’t sit well with me because I don’t know if we should be turning events like this into scripted television.

The Night Shift took a multilayered issue and condensed it into a 40-minute episode that even the casual viewer could understand. Streamlining the complex conversation can only help educate younger viewers who may not have understood everything that was happening during Ferguson or Baltimore.

More: Who else fully related to Dr. Zia's struggle with his mom on The Night Shift?

It also gives context and delivers opposing opinions in a way that isn’t aggressive or biased, something none of us can count on our national news outlets for. So in that way, the writers of The Night Shift did a lot of good.

But they also made a pretend storyline out of a very real issue that is currently affecting millions of people. Any time you create a fictional story, you may accidentally give viewers permission to see the tragedies that happen in real life as fake as well.

More: T.I. talks Ferguson: "America has created a monster"

Each time we see a mass shooting or a riot or any kind of terrible tragedy, we grow a little more desensitized to it. And for a topic as important as civil rights, we can’t afford to think of it as just another plot line on TV. Especially when TV has the advantage of tying everything up with a nice, clean ending — something real life can never do.

What do you think? Should TV shows write these issues into their storylines? Let me know.

I think I know why Kelly Ripa can't find the perfect Live! cohost

0
0

Since the very public departure of Michael Strahan from Live!, Kelly Ripa has been auditioning new cohosts. Unfortunately, none of the guys have really clicked. Not only do they have to recreate the chemistry that Ripa had with Strahan and Regis Philbin before him, but they also have to be as quick and as interesting as Ripa herself.

More: Kelly Ripa tried to address the drama — but I really think she avoided the whole thing

It hasn’t been for lack of trying either. Live! has recruited major talents like Fred Savage, Cedric the Entertainer, Jimmy Kimmel and John Stamos to sit beside Ripa during the morning show. Fans fell in love with Stamos and Savage, but even that wasn’t enough to make them the official cohost.

Part of the problem is that these men already have jobs that require most of their attention. Kimmel, for example, hosts his own show in Los Angeles. And even though upcoming cohost Jim Parsons is sure to be a huge hit, that commute would just be unreasonable.

More: Fred Savage's Live! cohost spot is in serious jeopardy thanks to Andy Cohen

If the executives are serious about filling the spot, they’re going to have to start looking for viable options, which means men in New York who don’t already have a full-time gig. If they don't have aspirations to jump ship after a few years, that would also be ideal.

It may be that there just isn’t a pool of male celebs who fit all of these criteria, which means there’s really only one solution for the future of the show: Let Ripa host the entire thing by herself.

More: Live! execs can keep Kelly Ripa in the dark, but they can't keep her quiet

Let’s face it, she’s the reason we’re all tuning in. Her quirky storytelling style is different than anyone else on TV, she’s always personable and engaging with her guests so they don’t have to tell the same boring stories they’ve already told during their press tour, and most importantly, she’s proven that she has more loyalty to the show than anyone else.

If late-night talk shows can be hosted by a single funnyman, then certainly a daytime show can do the same.

Natalie Hawkins could learn a thing or two about family support from Gabby Douglas

0

Everybody always talks about how hard it is to be an Olympian, but few discuss the strain that Olympic glory can put on athletes' families. Many family members find themselves putting their lives on hold, all in hopes of getting their beloved brothers, sisters, sons and daughters to the Olympics.

More: Douglas Family Gold's Arielle Hawkins shouldn't be in her sister's shadow

Last week on Douglas Family Gold, we saw just how much Gabby Douglas' older sister Arielle Hawkins has had to give up in order to make her sister's Olympic dreams a reality. She's put her entire life on hold during her formative twenties, when she should, ideally, be finding her own place in the world. After a lot of soul searching, she's decided to pursue a valuable fashion industry internship, and while her mom's expressed her doubts, Hawkins has enjoyed nothing but support from her little sister, who stands to lose the most from this career development.

Arielle Hawkins

Hawkins discussed the job opportunity with her mom last week, and tonight, she approached Douglas. This was not an easy conversation for Hawkins, who was well aware of the adverse impact her work-related absences could have on Douglas' bid for the Olympics. Her mother had already brought up her concerns about the timing, and Hawkins seemed worried that Douglas would echo these concerns.

More: Gabby Douglas replaces a boyfriend with a kitten — no, really

Some sisters would be very bothered by the thought of a chief contributor to the family business going her own way, but not Douglas — she was nothing short of supportive. In fact, Douglas' encouragement ultimately convinced Hawkins to take the job. When she announced the exciting news, a delighted Douglas jumped up and gave her big sis a much-needed hug.

Gabby Douglas

Every week, I am more and more impressed by how gracious a person Douglas really is. She has always set a good example in athletic venues and on social media, but she's just as kindhearted and supportive when she's followed around by reality TV camera crews all day long. I am so glad that she cares enough about her sister to encourage her to follow her own career dreams, even if that means losing the constant presence of one of her biggest fans and advocates. I wish that Natalie Hawkins would be as supportive as Douglas, but I think she'll come around when she sees how much this really means to her fashion-minded daughter.
