Khloé Kardashian makes controversial comment about Kim K's baby weight

More: Khloé Kardashian says Caitlyn Jenner lied to the family about her transition

Khloé told Kim, who just had a baby back in December, that she needed to lose some weight before she could be a guest on her new show.

"I love you and when you lose a few L-Bs I want you to come on Kocktails With Khloé!" the new host told her sister.

Uh... say what?

The woman just had a baby. And everyone should be embracing and loving those curves, not trying to give Kim a hard time for them.

Of course, Khloé obviously meant the comment lightheartedly. She had, after all, just gotten done prank calling her sister with the help of Kendall Jenner.

And Kim didn't seem put off by it at all. Sisters will be sisters, after all.

But Khloé's comment still came across offensively and the Internet took note.

Khloé, who has recently lost 40 pounds herself, should know better than putting a girl down. Especially a girl who just had a baby.

And sure, Khloé has to be basking in the fact that she's no longer the "curviest" one in the Kardashian/Jenner clan, but the fact that we women feel the need to constantly compare is a problem in and of itself.

Kim should be able to come on that show with all her fabulous baby weight. She is working motherhood, just like she said tonight on the show. She described herself as in "mom mode" when talking with Kendall and it's fantastic.

Do you think it's offensive that Khloé told Kim to lose weight?

When the news of the adoption came out, Jep and Jessica commented on their excitement.

"I think the past few years with Duck Dynasty our eyes have been opened and we’ve seen a lot of kids that are in need," Jessica said. "I think that was a life-changer for Jep, to see these kids who have nothing. Like they would get a toothbrush and they would just cry over that… I think knowing that we can make a difference and take a child in that maybe would never have a mommy or daddy, you’re changing a child’s life forever. And he’s going to change our life forever."

More: 5 Ways Mob Wives proved the ladies are crazier than ever

That's what a lot of fans of the show thought when headlines announced that Angela "Big Ang" Raiola was spotted back at the hospital on Tuesday.

Luckily, Raiola confirmed that her visit was routine, and that her cancer is still in remission.

"I just go for blood work," she told Radar Online. "Everything is fine."

Raiola continued, "Every three months, I go for a CAT scan and blood work — for the next five years."

Raiola was diagnosed with throat cancer back in April. Several month later, in December, it was reported that her cancer had returned and spread. Now, however, she insists that she's in remission and moving forward with her treatments.

"Oh, it's going. It's OK," she told Radar Online about her ongoing treatment to keep her cancer in check. "I'm good. I'm over it. Back to normal."

The fact that Raiola's hospital visit this week was just for a checkup hasn't stopped fans from rallying around the star and showing their support on social media. As (false) rumors hit headlines that Raiola's hospital visit was actually because her cancer had returned, many fans took to Twitter to show support for her.

4 Reasons Emma Watson's new book club is important

$

0

"I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too. The plan is to select and read a book every month, then discuss the work during the month’s last week (to give everyone time to read it!)."

The British actress has been engaged in the cause of gender equality for some time now, and her contribution has brought a lot of positive change, as it has reached millions of people around the world. Our Shared Shelf is of great importance to the feminist movement and, hopefully, both Emma Watson’s HeForShe and new book project will continue to grow in the future.

More: 3 Surprising things I learned about gender inequality this year

1. The book club can educate us on the real purpose of feminism

A lot of people had an opinion that feminism is an anti-men movement — and because of this misconception, being "a feminist" became considered a bad thing and kind of a joke.

Feminism isn’t a movement that promotes hating men or excludes them from the cause, but it’s about trying to achieve equal rights. I noticed on various social media sites and in conversations with different people that being a feminist is considered to be ridiculous — a sort of thing one should laugh at, as both men and women picture a feminist as a woman who wants some kind of revenge on men.

Therefore, we need this club to educate people on what feminism actually is — and to remind ourselves why we need it.

More: A man objectified me on social media, so I gave him a feminist smackdown

2. Be reminded about the power of literature

Women are on their way to achieving equality, but in many countries and cultures, an adequate level of gender equality still hasn’t been reached. Even in countries where people are spreading awareness, women still have problems.

The first book to be read in the feminist book club is My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem — which is the best book to start the discussion with, as Gloria Steinem describes her own road to equality. We need literature, and art in general, to express our mission. Just talking about it on social media isn’t enough. This book, and the following ones I am sure, will tell us stories of gender inequality or equality in different countries and give us an insight into something we have not experienced ourselves.

3. Call men to action

Emma Watson called men to act for her cause HeForShe, where she discussed that we are trying to achieve gender equality and not discriminate men. As Emma Watson said during her UN speech, both men and women have the right to be sensitive, and both men and women have the right to be strong.

This book club will definitely give all the people around the world the opportunity to tell their story, discuss their experiences and discuss the points of view of the authors whose books are being read.

4. We need to make feminism an ongoing movement

If the discussion is ongoing and people are engaged, there is a better chance that we’ll succeed in achieving the ultimate goal, which is total gender equality. Our Shared Shelf is the best possible way to bring the true meaning of this movement to light and keep the conversation going, which will hopefully inspire people to go out and learn more about the meaning of feminism.

More people, both men and women, should read about some of the experiences others have had — and once they understand the struggles of women and what the movement is truly trying to accomplish, all of us can proudly proclaim that we are feminists.

Like that leftover pizza from the night before that you had been dreaming about all day, only to discover it's gone when you get home. Or the chocolate you were looking forward to devouring, that has suddenly disappeared — and the empty wrapper taunts you from the bin. It's highly annoying, but one Chinese student has found a way to punish the thief in her flat, and the results are hilarious.

Devising a plan to teach her roommate a lesson, the girl decided to create a cardboard chicken cutlet. Yes, you read that correctly. Here is what she did.

According to The Mirror, first she cut out two cardboard cutlet shapes.

World's most expensive haggis will require a bank loan before Burns Night

More: What do Americans think of haggis? (VIDEO)

Macsweens is offering the "world’s most expensive haggis" and it will set you back — wait for it — £4,000, if you’re in a position to spare that sort of cash (and really, really love haggis).

Personally, I do really, really love haggis — but I would’t spend that amount even if I was ordering it to serve to my celebrity friends on my own personal island.

Ultimately, it’s the same as regular haggis, but with a few added ingredients. Which are, admittedly, pretty impressive. Who can say their Monday night dinner includes wagyu beef, French truffle and edible gold?

More specifically: Highland wagyu beef from hand-reared cattle in Perthshire, white summer truffle from France, tellicherry black pepper from India (which can only be grown at over 2,000ft above sea level, according to Macsween), and edible 24-carat gold sprinkled on top.

More: Scottish fry-up staple black pudding is now a superfood, apparently

Regular versions of the famous Scottish delicacy are made with lamb heart, lungs and liver, oats, onions and spices — ingredients that may turn some people’s stomachs but won’t wipe out their overdraft.

The luxury haggis is made to order — sensible move — and will be presented in a handmade wooden cask.

"Robert Burns’s famous poem transformed the humble haggis into a world icon and this year we wanted to put a luxury twist on the occasion," said James Macsween, managing director of the company. "This latest creation demonstrates the dedication and craft that go into every single one of our products. Good haggis-making is an art and we wanted to highlight this."

If you splash out on luxury haggis, do let us know. But for everyone else, remember... Rabbie Burns definitely wouldn't have had his supper sprinkled with gold.

6 First date icebreakers that work every time

$

For the rest of us, first dates are the purest form of torture known to man. There you are, sitting across the table from a stranger, hoping you stumble upon at least one topic that you share in common. You make a joke — they don't get it. Your date discusses their job for 45 minutes — you stifle a yawn. Sound familiar?

More: 7 Underrated winter date ideas that will cost you nothing

Of course, first dates don't have to be bad — they can actually be really enjoyable if you would only stop putting so much pressure on yourself to find the perfect soul mate and lifelong connection. No matter how sparkling a conversationalist you are, it helps to have first date icebreakers in mind before you meet with your future spouse/good friend/person-you'll-kiss-and-never-see-again. Relationship expert April Masini at Ask April provides six amazing first date icebreaker tips that will help you kiss bad first dates goodbye forever.

1. Bring a prop

No, not like a sword or light saber (though to each her own) but think: an interesting book you're reading or a souvenir you picked up on your recent trip to Thailand. "A prop is a great icebreaker, because it alleviates the pressure to be a great conversationalist," Masini says. "For instance, if you know his birthday, cut out the horoscope from the local paper, for both of you, and bring them to dinner to read to each other. This is a fun way to break the ice and get the conversation going."

More: 12 Things successful couples do to make their relationships last

2. Plan a date around a common interest

Anyone can have dinner together, but unless you're both seriously into a specific type of cuisine that will spark conversation, you may want to plan a date that incorporates your shared interests. "For instance, if you’re dog lovers, take your dogs for a walk in the park as a date," Masini says. "Talking about your dogs is a great way to cultivate a common interest and a jumping off point for other conversations."

3. Cook together

Instead of sitting next to one another at a restaurant and waiting with bated breath for the waiter to arrive with your plates, Masini suggests making dinner together as a great way to break the ice. "You can do the shopping together as part of the date, then go to one of your homes to prepare the meal," she says. "Choose something you can both participate in cooking — duck à l’orange may be too complicated to co-cook — but a Bolognese sauce with pasta isn’t." Taking a cooking class could be a safe alternative if you've never met and don't want to invite a stranger into your home.

More: 11 First date questions that separate the men from the boys

4. Take a class that does half of the work for you

Young children learn about others and the world around them through parallel play, and the same concept can work wonders on a first date — plus, it puts the pressure off of you. Masini recommends going to a painting class or a ceramics studio as a date so that you can do something separately in a parallel play model. "You’ll have the event to do together — whether it’s painting, sculpting or painting ceramics — and you can talk about what you’re doing as you’re doing it," She says. "Some of these classes will make some wine and snacks available, which smoothes the rough edges of a bumpy first date."

5. Group events

There's safety in numbers and feeling the presence of other friendly couples might make you feel more at ease on a first date. "A restaurant like Benihana where you’re seated with 10 or so others at a restaurant where you enjoy the chef making all your food at once, can be a lot of fun — especially if you’re seated with other couples, both new and established," Masini says. "Not only does it break the ice between you, but you’re perceived as a couple by others you might chat with at the table, and that reinforces the date dynamic between you."

6. Active dates

Forgo static dates like dinner or coffee meet-ups for those that will force you both to move around, expend energy, laugh and discuss what you're doing. Masini says shopping trips work because you can chat about what you’re seeing, looking for and buying — and you get the advantage of getting to know each other’s taste, as well as how they handle money. If you're sporty, try ice skating, shooting hoops or even organizing a baseball game with a few friends.

Supernatural may have just unceremoniously killed off a badass character

More: Supernatural: Castiel's devilish new role means bad things for Sam and Dean

Let's face it, Supernatural is known for bringing characters back to life. Just look at how many times Sam and Dean have bitten the dust, but they always come back. Granted, they are the lead characters, so killing one or both of them off for good would be bad for the series.

As for Rowena, well, there's a good chance she is truly dead and gone. I mean, when Lucifer kills someone, I have a feeling it's permanent. He's pretty powerful (even more than badass witch Rowena), so I'm betting Crowley will officially be burying (or burning or whatever he chooses) his mother.

More: Supernatural: 7 Bobby and Rufus moments that need to be in Season 11

Plus, actress Ruth Connell (who played Rowena) tweeted up a storm during Wednesday's episode and some of her posts surely allude to Connell parting ways with both Rowena and Supernatural. In addition to sharing several behind-the-scenes pictures from the episode, she posted a picture of herself and the caption, "Good night and thank you." So, it seems like that's her way of saying goodbye.

Ruth Connell

Ruth Connell

There are some fans rooting for Rowena to survive Lucifer's neck snap, and she could very well rise from the dead. The series sure knows how to get around death. If she is truly a goner, then this might not be the last viewers see of her.

Supernatural always figures out a way to bring back deceased characters, whether it be via flashback, in a dream or through a visit to heaven. I mean, Season 11 is going to feature an episode revolving around Bobby and Rufus. So, if you're a Rowena fan, don't fret, because there's a good chance you'll see her again at some point in time.

Supernatural airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on The CW.

How to make sure you've chosen the right resolutions

$
0
0

To avoid getting stuck in autopilot and being intentional about your desired life choices this year, I encourage you to do one simple thing: Examine your motives.

Ask yourself “why”

As you consider each feat you hope to accomplish this year, ask yourself:

  • Where does the desire to attain this particular goal or conquer this specific task stem from?
  • Is it something that I genuinely have the desire to accomplish, or does it simply sound good?
  • Do I honestly believe this is something that will contribute to me being my "best me" this year, or is this resolution influenced by someone else?

More: How to use inspiration and commitment to get more done

While these questions may seem strange — or even uncomfortable to address — I assure you that there’s a method to the madness in asking them. The reality is that determining your “why” ultimately affects the level of commitment that you’ll put forth to reaching or achieving said goal.

More: 5 Ways to create a better you in 2016

It’s not to say that your motivation to do or be better can’t come from external forces (i.e., your family). If, however, you’re not personally invested in the goal or its outcome, your heart may not be in it.

When your heart isn’t in it, you set yourself up for failure, and the end result may be:

  • Feelings of frustration, overwhelm and resentment for taking on something that you shouldn’t have.
  • Self-sabotage (i.e., setting yourself up for failure before you even begin).

Take a hard look at what you’ve committed to this year, and ask yourself, “Why?” for each resolution. If there are goals that made the list for the wrong reason, remove them.

Once you’ve developed a list of three to five resolutions you’re comfortable with and committed to, put a plan in place for working toward and eventually achieving them.

Your quick start to goal setting should focus on writing out your SMART goals:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Time-bound

As you go through this year, keep yourself accountable and on track by revisiting your goals. Take note — and even celebrate — when you reach each goal. Be flexible and make adjustments as needed.

Here’s to being intentional in reaching your goals this year! What are you committed to accomplishing in 2016? I’d love to hear about your plans in the comments below.

Kristin Cavallari hospitalized after scary car accident

Cavallari was traveling in a car that was struck by another vehicle near Chicago on Thursday, sources confirmed to TMZ. While her injuries are not life-threatening, she did reportedly suffer a dislocated elbow.

It is unclear whether or not Cavallari was driving, but if she was, we sincerely hope she was not wearing these shoes she posted on Instagram earlier today. While they are gorgeous, they are not a great idea to wear while behind the wheel.

None of Cavallari's three children — sons Camden and Jaxon or infant daughter Saylor — were in the car at the time of the accident, luckily. Her husband Jay Cutler was spotted arriving at the hospital shortly after she was admitted.

Cavallari has not been having an easy time of it lately. While she should be happily celebrating the arrival of her daughter, her joy was short-lived when her brother Michael went missing just weeks afterward. He was later found dead of exposure in Utah after he tried to walk for help when his car went off the road.

But brighter days may still be ahead. Her book Balancing in Heels, a memoir of marriage, motherhood and career, will be released in two months.

"It's basically an intimate look at my life," she told E! News last year. "It's going to be a lot of fashion and beauty. Because I'm such a big health nut, it's also going to be health and fitness. And then a lot of recipes because I love to cook and a lot of mommy and wife stuff. So really just everything in my life... and I think it's just a great way for my fans to connect with me."

We wish Cavallari a speedy recovery!

6 Ways to nap at work and get away with it

$
0
0

It turns out a midday snooze could even make you a better worker!

According to a 2008 study that was conducted at the University of California, a power nap is actually more effective than caffeine at improving verbal memory, motor skills and perceptual learning. Participants who napped had better recall memory after 20 minutes than those who drank coffee. This improved performance was even noticeable hours later.

If you're lucky enough to work from home, you can probably get your 20-minute power naps easily. However, those who work in an office are not so lucky (unless you work at one of those nouveau offices that offer state-of-the-art sleeping pods to their employees). If your boss can swing by your desk at any time to check on you, it's difficult to time even the quickest of naps.

More15 Sleepy kittens that need a nap as badly as you do

But if the science says it will make you more productive, it's worth a shot, right?

There are a few little tricks you can try to get away with catching a few winks from time to time. It's all about being crafty — and, of course, learning how to snap back into action if your covert operation fails to fool onlookers.

1. The "I'm away from my desk"

Hiding under desk
Image: Gifatron

If you have a big desk that mainly faces away from people, you can try pulling a George Costanza and sleep underneath it. You sort of have to build a little fort around yourself for any snoopers who take it upon themselves to look around all sides of your desk. If you have presentation boards nearby, try pulling those around the open side of the desk, making it look like you just laid them there before going to get a cup of coffee.

MorePower naps for power women: Worth it?

2. Sleep with your eyes open

Image: Giphy

Sound impossible? Well, it's not! ... Thanks to Sleep Safe Tape! This tape has eyes painted on it, so when you want to snooze for a bit, simply peel, stick to your eyelids and voilà. Granted, if someone looks really closely, they'll notice it's not really your eyes, but to a casual glancer, it should go unnoticed.

3. Do it on your lunch break

Image: Giphy

If you really missed out on your zzz the night before, you might consider catching a few on your lunch break. If you take a car to work, try lying down in the backseat, so you can really stretch out. If not, you can always lie down on a common space couch — your boss can't fault you for what you chose to do with your lunch break time!

4. Deep in thought

Image: Giphy

This works best if you have lots of work papers you can pretend to be looking down at on your desk. Simply prop yourself up on your hands, resting your elbows on the desk and position your head so it looks like you're looking down. To the outside eye, it will just look like you're totally immersed in your printouts.

5. Tummy troubles

Image: Giphy

Bathroom naps are great because it's usually pretty quiet and serene in there. However, you have to be OK with people thinking you have tummy troubles — because you might end up being in there for close to half an hour. If that doesn't bother you though, you're golden! That being said, you should probably restrict these visits to once or twice a week, otherwise your co-workers might start thinking you have a real medical problem.

6. Working sounds

Image: Giphy

This can really be applied to any of your desk sleeping techniques. It's an app called iNap that makes all the sounds you'd make if you were actually working and not sleeping, like mouse clicking, typing, throat clearing, etc. It's essentially the sleep tape from Ferris Bueller's Day Off — only it does the opposite.

Disclaimer: While we don't really suggest you nap on the job (as it may lead to dire consequences), it can't hurt to ask your boss to invest in a nap room. After all, it could drastically improve employee performance (not to mention morale), and you wouldn't have to stoop to covert sleeping operations anymore.

More: Insta-star breaks silence on her reasons for quitting social media

True to her predictions, the image was subsequently deleted from Facebook (most probably for nudity) but not before it started a conversation. Waterland took aim at women in the public eye who referred to themselves as "brave" for being a "few kilos heavier than the average fashion model," as she argued that many women see weight as a contributing factor to their value, when in fact it has nothing to do with it.

Waterland spoke about how there are far more important qualities than just the size of women's bodies, and how society should not place so much emphasis on physical appearance.

"When you are spectacularly intelligent and talented, your appearance and weight should not even be an issue. I know, that as a woman, it's not easy to say that. As a woman, even if your appearance isn’t an issue to you, it is to everyone else. I get that. But, f*** everyone else," she wrote in the now deleted post.

More: Why drawing naked people could be great for your self-esteem

Responding to the overwhelming reaction that her post got, Waterland wrote another, this time without an image attached to it — as some people had questioned whether it was counter-intuitive to post a naked picture along with a message about how physical appearance should not matter.

"Well, I had a message to get across I guess, and being a bigger woman, I felt like I was in a somewhat unique position to do so visually," Waterland explained.

She continued, "I have been seeing so many women, much thinner than me, constantly talking about how they've achieved things in life in spite of their flaws. The thing that bothers me about that discourse, is that 'flaws' are even being talked about at all, and so damn often. Why is the physical always so important? So high on the agenda? There just seems to be this overarching attitude that the physical should always be top on the list of values and priorities and attention."

More: Reasons we body-shame ourselves (and why we really shouldn't)

She revealed that she has refused all media requests and would leave the picture up (this was prior to Facebook deleting it), that she had nothing more to say about her body, "because my body is THE LEAST INTERESTING THING ABOUT ME."

While she may not be speaking about her body in the future, Waterland has inspired countless others with her post.

Comments on the picture include one from Andrea Boschetti. She wrote, "Today I miraculously convinced myself that I could in fact, among other things, even be a little bit sexy... regardless of previously ingrained beliefs. Thank you!! xo."

Trish Gill also shared her thoughts, writing, "Rosie Waterland you are totally my celebrity lady crush at the moment!! I love reading what you write and reading that you love that I [we] love reading what you write. I also love that you back yourself. You have an opinion you think is worth sharing and you stand by it. This and your previous post make perfect sense to me. And I'm off to check out the link to your one woman show!"

1. Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme

This lip plumper is the real deal. I noticed fuller lips just minutes after I applied the clear gloss, and they stayed full for hours after application (TooFaced, $28). I’ve had great results from Clinicians Complex as well, but Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme was the first plumper I’ve used that kept my lips full for hours without reapplying. However, the Too Faced plumper might sting a bit, so if you have really sensitive skin and lips, I might recommend the Clinicians Complex, which has a cooling effect (Amazon, $39).

2. Fabulips “Pout-O-Matic” kit by Bliss

For many of us, winter weather brings dry, flakey lips that look even worse when covered with the trendy dark lip shades of the season. The Fabulips Pout-O-Matic by Bliss has been an absolute lifesaver for me (Bliss World, $48). It comes with a lip scrub and electronic tool that are used together as a power-packed duo to gently remove dead skin from your lips and hydrate the new layer of skin. If the whole kit sounds intense, Lip Strip by Laura Geller is a great scrub for a less aggressive exfoliation approach (Laura Geller, $19).

3. KISMET Lovely liquid illuminator

A dewy finish can really help bring out your cheekbones in a photo. This is where the work of a great highlighter comes in. My favorite highlighter is the KISMET Lovely illuminator (KISMET Cosmetics, $19). I only need to use a small amount of this liquid solution to create a beautiful glow that lasts through the night. I’ve also used and liked the liquid Becca highlighter in Opal, but I prefer the KISMET highlighter in Rosy as it stays in place and lasts a bit longer (Becca Cosmetics, $41).

4. Bareskin liquid foundation by Bare Minerals

For those of us with sensitive skin, it can be difficult to find a smooth finish liquid foundation that doesn’t cause breakouts. Bareskin by Bare Minerals creates a full coverage foundation look without clogging your pores with a heavy solution (Bare Escentuals, $29). The lightweight layer stays well and leaves your skin with the luxurious look of liquid foundation that photographs well. Maybelline SuperStay 24hr makeup is my second choice here (Maybelline, $11). It’s a great option if you’re looking for a more affordable foundation from the drugstore

5. Stay All Day waterproof liquid liner by Stila

As the night goes on, eyeliner tends to smudge and wear off. A good waterproof liner can help you maintain a photo ready face without the need to constantly reapply. The Stay All Day waterproof liquid liner by Stila has been my favorite (Stila Cosmetics, $22). Maybelline Master Kajal is a solid runner up (Maybelline, $8).

6. Kylie Lip Kit

If you get the chance to snag one of these, do it! The Kylie Lip Kit comes with a liner and a liquid matte lipstick to create the perfect lip look (LipKit by Kylie). What I like about this product in comparison to others is that the solution goes on smoothly and doesn’t dry out your lips like some of its lower-priced competitors. Kat Von D’s line of liquid matte lipstick is also a great option if you’re looking for lasting color that goes on smoothly (Kat Von D Beauty, $20).

7. Volume Booster by CHI

CHI’s Volume Booster is hands down the best volumizing product I’ve tried to date (Ulta, $15). The solution is applied to and brushed through damp hair before blow drying to create volume evenly throughout your hair. I prefer it to other glazes and root boosters because the solution is lightweight and doesn’t make my hair feel as though it’s saturated in product.

8. Bellami Curling Wand

The Bellami curling wand comes with six interchangeable barrel options to give you the versatility of multiple curling wands in one tool (Bellami Hair, $140). It also has an adjustable temperature range of 356 degrees Fahrenheit to 430 degrees Fahrenheit. The best part about this wand is that it creates soft, silky curls that last the entire night without holding sprays.

9. Smashbox Photo Finish

To ensure that my trusty Bareskin foundation will stay in place under exceptionally rough conditions like a night out dancing or a day in a humid local, I use Smashbox Photo Finish (Smashbox, $36). This primer has a dedicated following of beauty mavens who swear by its ability to help your foundation maintain full coverage.

Hopefully these products will help you take more beautiful photos during your upcoming vacations and events. If you have a product you’d recommend, let me know in the comments below!

Two tasty recipes combined to make the most perfect tiramisu

More: How to make an amazing coconut cake from a can of beans

Aside from these two items that aren’t always in my pantry or refrigerator, I figured I could get the rest of the ingredients together with what I have on hand.

I took two recipes, Ina Garten’s recipe from Food Network and the recipe on the back of the Roland ladyfingers box. By combining these two along with my own substitutions, I came out with a delicious dessert that was uniquely mine.

Tiramisu

This decadent dessert uses very few ingredients, is easy to make and is sure to impress. By using what you have on hand — and a little creativity — you can make a classic dish uniquely yours. It is relatively low in sugar and this recipe is about 200 calories less than others on the internet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (16-ounce) container of mascarpone cheese. The creamy cheese is traditionally used in Tiramisu, but if you are in a pinch, you can make a substitute with cream cheese, sour cream and heavy cream. I had mascarpone, so no need for a substitute here.
  • 6 large eggs, separated — a staple I order by the case.
  • 1/4 cup sugar. Here is where I started to get creative. I used a stevia/sugar blend to reduce the sugar by half. I have tried and tried to like stevia over the years, mostly I find it to have a stringent, bitter flavor. In this recipe though, it worked. If you are looking to reduce your sugar consumption, this is one place to try stevia/sugar blend or just try reducing the total amount of sugar to 1/8 cup or 2 tablespoons
  • 1-1/2 cup brewed espresso. If you don't have espresso available, you can absolutely still make this dessert. I brewed a strong French roast coffee, but you can also try instant coffee for this application.
  • 1/2 cup liqueur. A lot of recipes call for Kahlúa, dark rum or brandy. Unfortunately, I had none of these. I try to have on hand a variety of liquor in the small airplane size bottles just for these small recipe needs. What I did have was Frangelico, a hazelnut liqueur and Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy. I used half of each, and it turned out perfect. Bourbon, rum, brandy any caramel-colored and/or coffee or nut flavored liqueurs will also work.
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, pantry staple
  • 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon, pantry staple
  • 30 to 40 ladyfinger cookies

More: Low-carb gooey skillet brownie for two

Directions:

  1. Blend the 6 egg yolks with the sugar on medium to high speed for 5 minutes or until the mixture becomes light yellow in color.
  2. Add half (1/4 cup) of the liqueur and 1/4 cup espresso, incorporate completely.
  3. Add the mascarpone cheese on low speed until all of the cheese is mixed in well.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites until firm peaks form. (This part of the recipe comes from the Roland ladyfingers box.)
  5. Fold the egg whites into the mascarpone/egg yolk mixture. Many recipes call for heavy cream here, with this method of using the egg whites, the same fluffy consistency is achieved without so many extra calories.
  6. On a plate with a high edge, mix the rest of the brewed coffee (1-1/4 cup) and the liquor (1/4 cup) together.
  7. Dip each ladyfinger in the mixture before laying them in a 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan. A clear pan gives the finished product a nice aesthetic.
  8. Lay the espresso/liquor dipped ladyfingers side by side leaving 1/4 inch space between each.
  9. After you complete one layer of ladyfingers, spread the mascarpone mixture over the top. There will be three layers total, use 1/3 mixture per layer.
  10. Combine the cinnamon and cocoa powder together.
  11. Use a strainer or sifter to sprinkle the cocoa/cinnamon powder over each layer.
  12. Repeat three times.
  13. Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 8 hours, overnight is better.

Bronx Zoo wants you to 'name a cockroach' in honor of your Valentine

The roaches, obviously.

More: 16 Romantic movies to stream on Valentine's Day

Lucky for you, The Bronx Zoo wants to help. The New York City landmark just announced it's bringing back its popular "Name a Roach" promotion in time for Valentine's Day. For $10, the zoo will name one of its Madagascar hissing cockroaches after your sweetie and then send you a digital certificate to give on Feb. 14.

Want to up the ante? For $25, you'll get the naming rights to a roach, the certificate and some chocolate "made with love" by the Nunu Chocolate Company in Brooklyn.

More: 11 Valentine's Day gifts you can give a new boyfriend

"Tens of thousands of roaches remain nameless and would make a great symbol of your love," the Bronx Zoo wrote on the official ordering page.

"Your donation will also help us protect these misunderstood love bugs, along with a lot of other animals, both big and small."

That's reason enough to buy in on this promotion, but just one question: What happens if you break up. Do you get some sort of joint custody of the hissing cockroach, like your ex will get the certificate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and alternating Sundays, while you get it the rest of the time? This seems like something that needs to be seriously discussed before you plunk down the $10.

8 Reasons Heroes Reborn was a total disappointment

More: Heroes Reborn: Claire's kids must save the world to save a boring season

Granted, the first few episodes were actually pretty decent, especially the connection between Claire, Tommy and Malina. Then, it took an unfortunate turn and things went downhill — quickly. Sadly, not even Claire's kids could save Heroes Reborn from itself. And with that, let's talk about a few of the reasons why the series was bad all around.

Heroes Reborn finale

Heroes Reborn finale

1. A beloved Heroes original died

Don't get me wrong, I get why this had to happen, but killing off Noah Bennet? How is that even remotely OK? Yes, his story came full circle with him fulfilling his destiny to help Tommy and Malina save the world. (FYI, Noah acted as a conduit for their powers.) Obviously, both Claire and Noah sacrificed themselves for their family and the greater good. That's who the Bennets are. However, I just never thought this would happen. Is anyone else devastated?

2. Hiro's fate is still a mystery

What happened to Hiro? Did he sacrifice himself to save Tommy? Is he still alive and kicking? Seriously, where is Hiro Nakamura?

3. Matt Parkman went bad and is probably still in a ditch

I hate that Matt Parkman was made into a bad guy. I thought he would somehow redeem himself, but that definitely didn't happen. Then, karma found him, which was bound to occur at some point. Although, I have a question: Is he still in his car?

4. Too many questions are left unanswered

Obviously, not everything could be answered in one episode. Plus, if the creators were hoping for a renewal, they probably didn't want to tie it with a tidy bow. However, I'm walking away with way too many questions, including what the heck happened to Noah's fiancée? Yeah, remember her?

More: Is Heroes Reborn's Noah Bennet hiding out with Hiro Nakamura?

Heroes Sylar

Heroes Sylar

5. The twins' father was mentioned way too late

This was something everyone was wondering as soon as it was revealed Tommy and Malina were Claire's children. I need Maury Povich to walk in and get me some DNA results, stat. At the end of the finale after the Bennet twins found tarot cards left by some stranger, Angela told Malina, "It's a message from your father, Malina. It means he's coming back for you and your brother." Who is the father? According to Twitter, many are speculating Sylar. Could it really be him?

6. Zachary Levi's story line fell flat — fast

When I learned Levi was joining Heroes Reborn, I was beyond excited. Then, when it was announced he'd be playing a villainous character, well, I was ecstatic. As a huge fan of Levi's, I couldn't wait to see him take on a darker role than Chuck Bartowski. Don't get me wrong, he did a great job, but I feel like his story line got lost along the way. Oh, and then to kill his character within the first 15 minutes of the finale? I guess he at least found his destiny, somewhat righted his wrongs and managed to stop the first solar flare, but still.

7. It moved way too slow

Not only did there need to be more action, but there were some episodes where nothing even happened. This is a show about people with powers; how can that even be made boring? I definitely needed more oomph.

8. Season 1 was left open-ended

How can you leave it open-ended? During the 2016 Winter Television Critics Association panel, it was revealed that Heroes Reborn wouldn't be renewed. The series finale was probably finalized before this announcement, but according to NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt, it was "always the plan" to only do one season of Heroes Reborn. That is, "unless [series creator] Tim [Kring] woke up one day and said, 'Oh, I have another chapter to tell,'" Greenblatt added. So, if that was always the plan, why leave it on such a huge cliffhanger?

Heroes Reborn Luke

I guess fans will just have to wait another five years when Heroes inevitably returns for another revival.

What did you think of Heroes Reborn? Were you as disappointed as I was?

Bringing Up Bates' Michaela Bates makes sex confession before her wedding

More: Erin Bates opens up about Season 3 of Bringing Up Bates

The Bates family, like the Duggars, is very strict in their dating guidelines. Michaela and her soon-to-be husband Brandon haven't even kissed yet, let alone done anything else.

Still, during her candle-making bridesmaid party, the older girls wanted to know what Michaela was most nervous about: the wedding itself or after the fact.

And Michaela's answer was surprising, even to her own sisters.

"I'm not nervous about either," Michaela said confidently.

"I remember what I was stressed about before the wedding and nervous about," Erin told the camera. "And the kiss thing was a big thing I was worried about and, yeah, after the wedding, the big shebang."

More: Jinger Duggar's recent trip refueled Lawson Bates dating rumors

The poor girl has a baby and still can't even say the word "sex."

Erin continued, "But she says she's not nervous about anything. So she's better than I was."

Michaela seemed like she was surprised at the idea that she should even be a little nervous.

"Erin thinks about things that never even cross my mind," Michaela told the camera.

OK, stop for just a second right there. You're going to tell me that sex hasn't even crossed this girl's mind? Like ever? I call B.S. No. Way.

That's called denial, people.

She added, "Maybe other people are thinking it. I don't know."

When you don't even have your first kiss prior to marriage, yeah, sex is a big cloud of curiosity looming over you; sorry, Michaela.

More: Jim Bob, Michelle Duggar's congratulatory video to the Bates family misses the mark

The show doesn't delve into it that much more. Rather, the girls go back to making their candles and we're left to wonder just how much she knows about the birds and the bees.

But since she and Brandon in the present day are now seemingly happily married, we're going to go ahead and assume everything went OK for both of them.

Are you surprised Michaela isn't nervous for her wedding or the night after the wedding?

The 100: 7 Changes that prove things are taking a bad turn in Season 3

More: 10 Reasons you must watch The 100

Three months have passed since Season 2, which means life has definitely changed for the Arkers. Not only have they found some peace within their new home (now cleverly called "Arkadia"), but they've improved upon their village immensely. From a watering hole (where Shawn Mendes sings, for real) to better medical supplies to cars for actual driving around, the Sky People are doing well for themselves.

Of course, not everything is perfect. When life moves on, there are a lot of changes — both good and bad. The above lists a few of the good things that have happened for the Arkers, but there are also many problems they're facing as well.

Here are just a few of the changes that prove things are taking a bad turn (and will probably continue to) for those of Arkadia.

Bellamy
Image: Tumblr

More: Supernatural: Castiel's devilish new role means bad things for Sam and Dean

1. Bellamy has a new girlfriend

Sorry Bellarke shippers, but Bellamy has moved on with someone named Gina. Of course, this isn't really bad, but it is if you want Bellamy and Clarke to heat things up in the romance department.

2. Jasper is more lost than ever

Let's all say it in unison: "Poor Jasper." Ever since Maya's death (aka when Clarke killed her and the other Mount Weather residents), Jasper has been beyond lost. Can you blame him? Not only is he getting drunk on a daily basis, but he's causing fights and even smiled when a knife was put to his throat by one of the Ice Nation members.

3. Raven continues to struggle

Ever since getting shot and losing feeling in her one leg, Raven has been learning to live with her physical limitations. However, in Season 2, there was hope until that explosion at Mount Weather. Basically, it feels like Raven is back at square one and she's trying to cope with it all over again.

4. Jaha has found friendship with A.L.I.E, aka a hologram

Remember how Jaha and Murphy ended up in the City of Light? Well, while Murphy was trapped inside that bunker for 86 days straight (seriously), Jaha was becoming besties with the hologram responsible for ending the world. However, Jaha doesn't see it that way and is on cloud nine, but there's something else mysterious going on here.

5. One name: City of Light

What is the City of Light Jaha keeps going on about? He told Murphy it's an escape to a place with no pain, no hate and no envy. But I'm still confused about how you actually visit it. Was that an earbud or some type of gadget Jaha gave Murphy? Who knows, but I'm definitely intrigued.

6. Octavia is still unhappy

If Octavia had her way, she and Lincoln would leave Arkadia and live their lives as Grounders. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon, especially since Lexa has a kill order out on Lincoln.

Clarke
Image: Tumblr

7. Clarke is now the "Commander of Death"

That is not something I made up. Not only is Clarke being hunted, but she is known as "Wanheda," aka the "Commander of Death." She even got captured at the end, so here's hoping Clarke survives this one.

The 100 airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
