Dance Moms' latest verbal assault against a child is unacceptable

$

0

The young dancers of the ALDC are used to being insulted. Typically, these epithets come from Abby Lee Miller, who has never been a big fan of the gentle touch. Although they still occasionally cry when Miller uses verbal assault as a teaching technique, the dancers have mostly learned how to put on a brave face. However, while they can handle Miller's behavior, they are not prepared to deal with insults from their friends' moms.

More: Abby Lee Miller hit an all-time low encouraging shameful behavior

Until now, the mothers featured on Dance Moms have taken care to remain at least somewhat respectful when discussing dancers who are not their own children. Yes, the moms passive aggressively complain about Maddie Ziegler always getting to be the star, but they'd never dream of yelling at Ziegler... or would they? Evidently, Jill Vertes is perfectly OK with mistreating the dancers, as long as they're not deemed one of the "original girls."

More: Dance Moms takes a page from Bring it On during the premiere

The drama was, as always, instigated by Miller, who awarded Kendall Vertes a solo but had new dancer Brynn Rumfallo learn it as well. Miller claimed that if Rumfallo looked better than Vertes, she would be given the chance to compete. Jill Vertes clearly felt threatened, because her behavior changed markedly the moment she realized her daughter's solo could be in jeopardy. Upon realizing that Rumfallo was standing a little too close to the instructor, Vertes snapped and harshly told the new girl to get out of the way.

More: Dance Moms cast members fall victim to another hack

Talk about a terrible way to welcome somebody new to the studio! It's not Vertes' job to discipline the other kids. If anything, she should be supporting them just as much as she supports her own daughter. Some of the most touching moments on Dance Moms have involved Kelly Hyland comforting Chloe Lukasiak, as well as Christi Lukasiak providing Nia Frazier with some much-needed reassurance. Although quick to nitpick one another, these moms always wanted the best for all of the ALDC dancers. If Vertes really wants her daughter to be referred to as an "original girl," she needs to act like an original mom.

Vertes has never been the most popular cast member on Dance Moms, but her public perception took an especially big hit tonight. The following is just a small sampling of the negative tweets targeted at Kendall's mom.

Hopefully, this was an isolated incident. In the midst of so much Abby-induced stress, the last thing the girls need is to also deal with the moms putting them down.

Pretty Little Liars' Ezra can't possibly be CeCe's killer

More: PLL 6B's new characters prove Ezra and Aria might split up too (PHOTOS)

For one, if that were the case, the season would be over before it even really began. After only two episodes the mystery can't be solved. Otherwise, the girls go home and live their new lives, done and done. And there is way too much drama being set up in their personal lives for their end in Rosewood to be that simple.

And the bigger reason Ezra can't possibly be the killer is that he's already been through way too much to be murdering people in cold blood.

Anyone else feel like him being on the suspect list feels weirdly like Netflix's new hit show Making A Murderer? Which, if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend bingeing on the first season immediately. It will not only scare the pants off of you about our justice system, but it will feel eerily similar to the accusations flying on PLL right now.

Think about it.

All of the girls were convinced that Ezra was A at one point. And not in the, "Oh, he could be on the suspect list" kind of way, but in the, "I'm running for the hills scared for my life because I think he's after me" kind of way. And he was innocent! Doing some shady things for the sake of his book, sure, but definitely innocent.

Just in the same way Making A Murderer's Steven Avery was innocent of the first charges against him.

More: Pretty Little Liars' new villain had better be a Liar

Which is why the idea of Ezra committing an even more extreme crime than the one he was accused of previously just seems ridiculous.

Now, whether Steven Avery actually committed the crime, who knows. That's for another article entirely.

But we've seen into Ezra's life enough over the past six years to know that he's way too smart for that.

He just lost Nicole. Not to mention, he has to deal with the emotional confusion now that Aria is back in the picture all while he's grieving. The poor guy probably can't even cope with his emotions, let alone make the decision to kill someone.

The past is definitely repeating itself on the show in 6B. But Ezra finding himself on the wrong side of suspicion twice just seems too coincidental to believe. Something is definitely fishy here.

Ezra has every right to be mad. He has every right to mourn CeCe's death. But there is just no way he killed her. That would be the most depressing character arc in the history of television. After everything that he's been through. And all of the past between he and Aria. He just can't end the show behind bars rotting away as the bad guy.

No way!

More: Pretty Little Liars cast dishes about the new relationships in 6B

Plus, Pretty Little Liars loves to tease suspects. We've had five seasons before this and at some point or another every single person on the show has absolutely been on the suspect list. Since Ezra is topping the list so early on in the season, there's a good chance his name will be cleared almost as quickly.

We should know by now that on Pretty Little Liars, the truth never comes out so easily.

Do you think Ezra could be CeCe's killer?

Khloé Kardashian may have just dumped James Harden (PHOTO)

Kardashian was faced with rumors that she and Odom were reconciling after she canceled the couple's divorce in the midst of his medical emergency, but she soon squashed that rumor, saying she did it merely for the sake of making medical decisions for him and that she and Harden are definitely still an item.

Her latest Instagram post, however, has led many to think the couple is now on the outs — especially since Harden was seen scurrying into a strip club at 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.

"Never compromise the way you desire to be loved," Kardashian captioned the post. "We all should require and demand a certain type of love and that's for us to choose in any realm. Don't lose yourself in lowering your standards to make someone else comfortable in love. Search for a love that's equal. You ARE deserving of equal love!!"

Damn straight, girl.

The missive was posted the day after TMZ cameras caught Harden slipping into the Los Angeles strip club Ace of Diamonds, where Kylie Jenner's on-again, off-again boyfriend Tyga was hosting the establishment's one-year anniversary party after hitting Nice Guy with Kendall Jenner.

But Harden was not the only Kardashian boy toy in attendance. Kourtney's disgraced baby daddy Scott Disick was also in attendance.

So was Kardashian's note directed toward Harden? Maybe. Or maybe it is a reference to Odom, who repeatedly chose drugs, alcohol and other women instead of his wife — surely making her feel "hard to love."

11 Types of hot peppers, ranked from mild to fiery

Invented by Wilbur Scoville, the Scoville Heat Index ranks peppers in order from mildest to hottest. It starts with zero being the mildest and goes over 1,000,000 to indicate the hottest peppers. Though there are dozens of different kinds of peppers, here's the scoop on the heat index for some of the more widely used types.

Bell pepper

bell peppers
Image: Devonyu/iStock/360/Getty Images

Bell peppers, which can be red, yellow, green or orange, aren't hot peppers. They are very common sweet peppers. Since this type of pepper has no heat, its Scoville Heat Index is zero. You can cook bell peppers in a variety of different ways, however don't expect this type of pepper to add spice to your food.

Cherry pepper

pimento pepper

Also known as pimento peppers, cherry peppers are heart-shaped and are about four inches long and three inches wide. These peppers are actually very mild, scoring about a 500 on the Scoville Heat Index. Cherry peppers are perhaps best known to be the red filling that can typically be found inside of olives.

Anaheim pepper

anaheim pepper
Image: GomezDavid/iStock/360/Getty Images

Another mild type of pepper is the Anaheim pepper. This pepper is usually maroon in color and has a long, skinny body. While the Anaheim pepper usually has a Scoville Heat Index around 1,000, some varieties can have a rating as high as 5,000. Relative to the rest of this list, this pepper is not very hot.

Jalapeño pepper

jalapeño pepper
Image: Creativeye99/E+/Getty Images

The jalapeño is one of the most common types of peppers in the U.S. Many people like it because it's spicy yet not overwhelming. Jalapeños are usually either red or green and about two to three inches long. Their Scoville Heat Index is around 5,000, however they can range anywhere from 2,000 to 8,000. When used sparingly, they add just the right amount of spicy flavor to most Mexican dishes. Many people also deep fry jalapeños stuffed with cheese for a tasty appetizer.

Serrano pepper

Image: bhofack2/iStock/360/Getty Images

The Serrano pepper is similar to the jalapeño in its look, but this pepper is much hotter. On the Scoville Heat Index, the Serrano Pepper can be between 10,000 and 25,000. This pepper is usually small (around two inches) and green in color. As a general rule of thumb, the smaller the Serrano pepper, the hotter it will taste.

Cayenne pepper

The Cayenne pepper is another hot pepper (between 25,000 and 50,000 on the Scoville Heat Index) that is popular with those looking to add heat to food. Red in color, the Cayenne pepper is generally dried and used in powder form. Additionally, this pepper has been used in natural medicines for hundreds of years due to reported healing attributes.

Tabasco pepper

As you may have guessed, the Tabasco pepper is used to make Tabasco sauce. If you've ever tasted how hot Tabasco sauce is, you won't be surprised to learn that the Tabasco pepper has a Scoville Heat Index of between 30,000 and 60,000. The actual pepper is less than two inches long and can be green, red, yellow or orange in color.

Thai pepper

Thai pepper
Image: lucentius/iStock/360/Getty Images

Grown in Thailand and neighboring countries, the Thai pepper is a type of pepper that can be classified as "very hot." With a Scoville Heat Index of between 50,000 and 100,000, these peppers are sure to leave your taste buds wanting relief. The Thai pepper is one of the smallest peppers, measuring in at less than an inch. It's used in many spicy Thai dishes at restaurants in the U.S.

Rocoto pepper

rocoto pepper
Image: only_fabrizio/iStock/360/Getty Images

While Rocoto peppers look somewhat like bell peppers, it can be dangerous to get the two mixed up. While bell peppers aren't hot at all, the Rocoto pepper is extremely hot. Between 100,000 and 250,000 on the Scoville Heat Index, this pepper is about the size of a bell pepper but is rounder and is typically only red or green. Some people use this pepper to make very spicy sauces.

Habanero chili pepper

Image: DNY59/E+/Getty Images

Of hot peppers that are commonly used, the Habanero chili is recognized as the hottest. This pepper, which can be any color from green to yellow to pink, is usually only around three centimeters in length. However, do not let the small size fool you – the Habanero chili can pack a punch! The Scoville Heat Index for the Habanero chili can range from 150,000 to 350,000

Ghost pepper

Image: subinpumsom/iStock/360/Getty Images

Also known as Naga Jolokia, this pepper is literally the hottest pepper in the world. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized the Ghost pepper in 2006 after reports surfaced that this pepper has a Scoville Heat Index of over 1,000,000. If you get your hand on a Ghost pepper, be sure to be extremely careful because one seed from this pepper will have your mouth burning for up to 30 minutes.

What to know about multiple sclerosis: 'It's not a death sentence'

$

0

The 37-year-old revealed to People magazine that she's been living for over a decade with multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disorder that causes the body to attack the myelin sheaths on the outside of nerves causing serious neuromuscular problems. She admitted that she's still struggling to accept her diagnosis, especially after working so hard to hide her symptoms during her TV career, but now she's ready to talk about her struggle.

"I can't walk for a long period of time without resting. I cannot run. No superhero roles for me," Sigler said. "Stairs? I can do them, but they're not the easiest. When I walk, I have to think about every single step, which is annoying and frustrating."

More: What to know about the illnesses that ended Glenn Frey's life

Annoying and frustrating are putting it mildly says Vanessa Richard, a 33-year-old mom of three from Washington, who also has MS.

"It's hard because I'm young and I have this disease that will cripple me and there's nothing anyone can do about it," she says. "The worst part is that you don't look sick but you definitely are. I feel like I'm always having to justify it and explain myself to people."

Richard says she sympathizes with Sigler and that she too has lost a lot to the illness. A former cake decorator, she had to quit when she lost strength in her hands. "But really it's not being able to play with my kids like I used to," she says, tearing up just thinking about her 9, 6 and 3-year old. "It hurts... It really does."

Sigler is also a mom, to 6-year-old Beau.

But the illness can do funny things and, speaking of children, Richard says she's now pregnant with her fourth child thanks to her MS meds cancelling out her birth control. It's a blessing though, she says, as pregnancy puts her MS into remission. And it's this life — her children and devoted husband — that keep Richard fighting despite the chronic fatigue and pain.

"There's definitely a stigma of 'Oh you have a disease, we have to feel sorry for you' but I'm determined not to be a burden on anyone, especially my family," she says.

More: First case of Zika virus found in the United States

Sigler and Richard are just two of the nearly half million Americans and 2.3 million people worldwide who have MS, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Although doctors believe the number could be higher as many mild cases go undiagnosed for years. This was the case for Richard, who started showing symptoms at age 16 but didn't get an accurate diagnosis of MS until she was 30 and showed up in the ER with a skull-crushing headache. Doctors finally ordered an MRI and were able to spot over 60 active lesions.

Richard's story is not unique. MS can be tricky to diagnose because the symptoms — vision changes, muscle weakness, fatigue, dizziness, loss of coordination and problems with motor control — are easily written off as stress or misdiagnosed as something else. While some people have very severe cases, including partial paralysis, most cases are relatively mild. In addition, the symptoms can wax and wane with sufferers being fine for months or even years between attacks.

It's unknown exactly what causes the body's immune system to turn on itself in this way, but the National Institutes of Health says that the cause may be genetic, environmental or even viral (or all of the above). Weirdly, the environmental factor that may make the most difference is how far north or south you live, as the number of MS cases increase the farther you get from the equator. (Richard says the changing of the seasons is her biggest trigger for an attack.) Age also is a factor, as is gender. Most cases are first diagnosed between 20 and 40 years of age with twice as many female patients as male. Diabetes, thyroid disease and bowel disease can also increase your risk of getting MS.

While there is no cure and the disease gets progressively worse over time, the prognosis is generally good, reports the NIH. The illness can be debilitating but is not considered fatal and doesn't appear to shorten lifespan.

More: Lung cancer symptoms ever non-smokers should know

But there are some promising treatments with the most common being beta interferon and other therapies that suppress the immune system, preventing it from doing further nerve damage. Steroids and other medications, like the Tecfidera Sigler says helps her, can manage symptoms and shorten attacks. In addition, patients are encouraged to modify their lives by avoiding heat and excessive activity, according to the NIH.

It's this hope that Richard clings to in the face of all this uncertainty. "When I first heard the diagnosis, I thought it was a death sentence," she says. But now she says she wants to be an advocate, helping others with the disease and encouraging more people — especially those who live in the far north — to get screened. "The more we know, the more research there is, the better chance we have to get the answers we all need."

Woman's seemingly harmless pimple turns out to be cancer

That was the case for Jodie Dominy, a 41-year-old mother of two from Karalee, Queensland, Australia, whose chin pimple actually turned out to be cancerous. Unlike all us hypochondriacs out there, Dominy simply wrote off this small lump on her chin as a particularly stubborn blemish. She is, after all, a mother, and thus attributed it to the usual stress of caring for her children. However, when it refused to go away over some time, Dominy decided to get it checked out by a doctor. Warning: The images below are graphic.

More: New skin cancer threat: Manicures

The doctor she saw examined it topically but took no further steps than that. Dominy told Daily Mail, "The doctor explained I could have it removed for cosmetic reasons, but there was no harm in leaving it alone. I decided not to bother." It is very common for doctors to dismiss issues like this, because the tests needed to explore them further are expensive and time-consuming, and more often than not, it turns out to be nothing. But that was not the case in this scenario.

Dominy went about her life as normal for the next few years, but the bump never went away. In fact, it grew considerably, eventually achieving almost an inch in diameter. Finally she decided to return to the doctor to have what she now thought was a benign cyst extracted along with a small melanoma on her lip. Fortunately her surgeon had the lump biopsied before surgery and discovered it was definitely not just your run-of-the-mill cyst — it was a rare form of skin cancer.

Dominy was diagnosed with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, or DFSP, which is a soft tissue sarcoma that is often described as having roots that can latch into skin, muscle, even bone. According to Daily Mail, there have been only eight reported cases of it in Australia, and according to Dominy's Facebook page, she's the only one to ever have it on her face. While the cancer does have a high survival rate, because of where it was on her face and how long it had gone undiagnosed, it would be particularly difficult to remove.

More: 11 Inspiring quotes about fighting cancer

Her doctors said the sarcoma had spread to her chin, bottom lip, jaw and left cheek, so they would need to take skin from her arm to rebuild parts of her face. The initial procedure took nine hours and left Dominy looking pretty disfigured. The following images of her post-op may disturb you.

And this is far from the end of it. "I have ongoing facial reconstruction surgeries still to come this year to create a jawline and some form of normality to my face, as well as ongoing speech therapy and occupational therapy on my arm to try and gain full access of it," Dominy explained to Daily Mail. They removed a substantial portion of her arm skin, including muscles, nerves and tendons, which means she may never have perfect use of it ever again.

More: Experts confused about when women should stop getting mammograms

Dominy knows her case was extremely rare, but she hopes it will be a cautionary tale to others who experience small changes to their bodies and do nothing even if they continue to worsen. No, you don't need to go to your doctor's office for every little thing you notice, but if something doesn't go away over a time, it can't hurt to get it checked out. The best-case scenario is you learn it's nothing and go home sighing with relief.

Sexy book excerpt: A scene from The Rock by Monica McCarty

Read the full excerpt from The Rock:

He’d been waiting for this for too damned long. Waiting for her to come to him, to recognize what had always been between them, and to show her exactly what she’d forsaken.

No more holding back, damn it. He started out slow, as if testing whether his body would follow his mind’s command. Put your hand on her waist. Gentle, damn it. Don’t bring her in too tight. Move your other hand up easy. Cradle her head.

Ah, Christ. He bit back a groan as the smooth silk of her hair slid over his knuckles and sent a fresh wave of sensation racing over his skin. It taunted him. Tempted him. He wanted to lace his fingers through it, twist it around his hand, and bring her mouth in hard against his.

More: What it's really like to write erotic fiction

He wanted to slide his tongue into her mouth and kiss her hard and deep. He wanted to kiss her until her taste melded with his, until her tongue circled and thrust wildly — passionately — against his, until she felt the same insatiable hunger that was burning inside him.

Blood rushed like molten ore through his veins, urging him to devour, urging him to open those achingly sweet lips under his and taste her fully. But he forced his pulse to slow, forced his hands not to grip but to caress, and forced his mouth to sweep and entreat, not ravish and plunder like an uncouth villain.

As if she were the most fragile piece of porcelain, he drew her infinitesimally closer. The hand on her hip slid around her waist and the hand cupping her head brought her mouth more firmly against his.

He didn’t move. Didn’t trust himself to do anything other than let the sensations roll over him in a hot, heavy wave. But the honey sweetness of her breath, the velvety softness of her lips, the feminine lushness of the curves sinking into him dragged him under.

It was too much. It felt too good. The instincts firing through him were too powerful, the urges too primal. He was too damned hot. He couldn’t do this. He had to pull back.

But whatever rationality he might have possessed fled when she made a moan low in her throat. A moan that moved from her mouth into his. A moan that shattered every bone of restraint he had in his body and opened the damned floodgates.

He pressed her into the curve of his body, gripped the back of her head, and brought her mouth decisively to his. There were no more gentle brushes and sweeping entreaties; he opened her lips with his and sank into her deep and hard. Kissing the innocence from her mouth with bold, authoritative strokes of his tongue that demanded a response.

More: Read an excerpt from Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole

And she gave him one. Christ, how she gave him one. Her response undid him. Tentative and innocent at first — proving that she’d never been kissed like this before — and bolder and more passionate as desire took over.

Desire for him.

Aye, she wanted him, and the satisfaction of being right, of knowing that the connection between them was far more than friendship, was nothing to feeling it shudder through her, hearing it in her soft moans, and tasting it in the frenzy of her mouth and tongue sliding against his.

It was even better than he’d imagined — and what he’d imagined had been damned spectacular. But he hadn’t been able to dream up the incredible feel of all those womanly curves fitted against him, the delicate sweetness of her mouth, the silkiness of her hair, the fresh scent of soap that clung to her baby-soft skin. He sure as hell couldn’t have known how it would feel to have her hands digging into his back and shoulders as the kiss intensified, as if she were struggling to hold on. And he hadn’t had a damned clue what it would be like when her body rubbed against his trying to get closer. When his hand slid around the firm swell of her bottom to lift her against him. To feel his cock hard and snug in that one place he wanted it, and then feel her rock innocently but instinctively against him.

He damned near lost himself. The pleasure was so acute, the pressure so intense, he could have come right there.

He didn’t know how much longer he could hold on. His hands were no longer capable of caressing; they were too busy covering every inch of her. The soft swell of her hips, the lush curve of her bottom, the heavy swell of her breasts.

He couldn’t hold back the groan when he finally took those perfect mounds of flesh in his hands. Christ, they were spectacular. Lush and round and generous. Too much to hold in one hand generous. Bury your face generous. Wreak havoc with his nights generous. How many times had he dreamed of this? Dreamed of cupping her. Squeezing her. Circling his thumb over the turgid peak until she arched in his hand. Dreamed of making her gasp and moan.

If he’d ever had a doubt about the nature of the connection between them, it was gone. Passion like this couldn’t be denied.

Nor could it be controlled.

The X-Files: Gillian Anderson reveals 7 facts about the upcoming episodes

More: The X-Files: 7 Things I learned from the new 21-minute preview (VIDEO)

1. David Duchovny joined the miniseries right away

"David was very enthusiastic from the inception," Anderson told GQ, adding that her costar played an integral behind-the-scenes role in getting the miniseries off the ground. So if you're one of the fans who's been anxiously awaiting the return of Mulder and Scully, please direct your thanks in Duchovny's direction.

2. But Anderson had some hesitations at first

Anderson has kept herself pretty busy since The X-Files wrapped and especially in recent years: She's the star of The Fall, she had a recurring role on Hannibal and she's even appearing in a new War and Peace miniseries. So it's understandable that her plate felt a little too full to revisit her old series. Still, once she realized that the show wouldn't be a full 24-episode season but something much shorter and more focused, she changed her tune. "Once it looked like [a shorter season] would be a possibility, I started to get more excited about the prospect of the whole thing and how cool it might be to be a part of it again," she told GQ.

3. This isn't a miniseries designed for binge-watching

It makes perfect sense that the X-Files miniseries will be airing on Fox — after all, that's the network where the original series aired. But if you're wondering why you won't be seeing the new show on Netflix or Amazon just yet, it might be because it's not a series meant for bingeing.

"A lot of the episodes are standalone episodes, so it’s not like there’s necessarily a through-line that is satisfying when binge-watching," Anderson said. Perhaps we should be expecting some new Monsters of the Week?

More: The X-Files spoilers: Could love still be in the air for Scully and Mulder?

4. The miniseries brings 21st-century technology to the X-Files universe...

"We have cell phones that fit into our pockets, and we have flashlights that actually fit into our pockets," Anderson revealed, indicating a major shift from the '90s aesthetic of the original X-Files. I'm guessing we should also be expecting to see fancier computers and alien-spying technology, though those won't necessarily be pocket-sized.

5. ... and 21st-century anxieties, too

Anderson told GQ that she loves the escapism of sci-fi. "It just completely obliterates those petty mortgages, and the rising cost of school fees, and the fact that ISIS is taking over the world," she explained. But she continued to say that those real-world, current-day anxieties will very much be a part of the miniseries. She said that the new show will "[tap] into the Zeitgeist" and present-day paranoias, without being too literal about them.

6. This might not be the last we see of Mulder and Scully

When asked if the new series qualifies as a miniseries or a reboot, Anderson replied, "I guess it’s a miniseries, but sometimes these miniseries become full series, so I don’t know! I guess it depends on where we go with it." Does this mean there might be even more new X-Files to come? Stay tuned.

More: 7 X-Files mysteries we hope the new series answers

7. We have, however, seen the last of Scully's shoulder pads

"There will not be shoulder pads in any way, shape, or form," Anderson assured, and I think we can all agree that's for the best. Nothing beats nostalgia, but some relics of the '90s should probably stay put.

"Coming in at number one in the combined Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne regions was a very royal William for boys and Charlotte for girls, while those in the Wheatbelt/Mid-West region favoured Jack and Isabelle," he said.

The register also revealed that births were down by 260 to 35,335. If you're looking for some baby name inspiration, take it from parents in Western Australia and take a look at their most popular names for 2015.

This is what heartbreak does to your body, according to Fitbit

The near-panic attacks, the feeling that you will never recover from having your heart broken, that you will die alone surrounded by your cats because the skater boy with long blond hair stole your heart and then trampled all over it. Excuse me, I think I just channelled my 16-year-old self for a moment there. Moving on.

Now, thanks to wearable devices like Fitbit, which track activity and heart monitoring, it might actually be possible to see what heartbreak does to the human body.

One poor sod was wearing his device when his heart was trampled upon, later sharing the information on his Twitter account.

Fitbit tracks breakup

Fitbit tracks breakup

Koby Soto from Tel Aviv in Israel received a call from his boyfriend, who he was planning on seeing that night, but received some unfortunate news.

"He said that we're going to have to cancel, and I said 'Why?' and he said, "Things are not working as they should,'" Soto recalled in an interview with BuzzFeed News. "I said, "Are you serious? You're doing this over the phone?'"

Soto had been wearing his Fitbit for five months but he had no idea that it would track something so personal and so much more painful than lunges, stair runs and even burpees.

More: What sexting looks like when you're a married couple

"I feel like it's nice to have a log of your confirmation of what you felt. You can tell people you have heartbreak and you feel bad," Soto said.

"People become less cynical once you show them the numbers or once you show the data or graphs. Everyone understands heartbreak, right? Everyone's felt it. When you have this, it's interesting — you have something to show."

The graphs taken from his app show that his heart rate before the phone call was a calm 72 beats per minute, but after the call it peaked at almost a whopping 118 beats, before returning back to normal that night.

"I wasn't doing anything, I didn't go to the gym, I didn't expect the Fitbit to even track me," he said. "It was just on me."

Heartbreak can have many effects on the body, and not just an increase in heart rate and stress levels. According to Naomi Eisenbuerger, Ph.D., and assistant professor of psychology at the University of California, the brain can trick you into feeling you are physically hurt. So when you feel like you're in pain, you really are.

But it's not all bad news, a breakup can give you that not-so-polite wake-up call that you might need to turn over a new leaf, reconnect with friends and take steps to taking care of yourself, maybe even go to the gym to put that wearable device into action again.

More: Sister Wives' Meri Brown's catfisher reveals details about their affair

Brown turned 48 on Tuesday and, to celebrate, all of his wives took to social media to share sweet tributes to him, their family and their relationships with the famous patriarch.

"Happy birthday @realkodybrown! Wishing you peace, happiness & love in abundance!" Brown's first wife, Meri, wrote on Twitter alongside a goofy Minions-themed birthday image. The tribute was a little bit surprising considering Meri has been at the center of a lot of the family's controversy lately. First, breakup rumors swirled as Brown divorced Meri, the only wife to whom he was legally married, so he could marry his third spiritual wife, Robyn, and adopt her children. The move reportedly shook Meri's confidence about their relationship and was a driving force behind her online affair, which turned out to be her getting catfished by a woman.

Brown's other wives also joined in on the celebration, tweeting their own birthday messages to their spiritual husband.

"Happy B-Day 2 the love of my life @realkodybrown. So much adventure in 48 short years — here's to at least 50 more," Brown's second wife, Janelle, wrote. His third wife, Christine, added her own wishes, writing, "Happy Birthday @realkodybrown. I love being married to you and sharing our incredible life story with you."

8 Reasons Arrow fans just want the flashbacks to stop

1. They're mostly pointless

Everyone loves a good flashback, they're a tried and true way to dig into a character and get into their origin story. But these days it's hard to know what the point of them is anymore.

More: Arrow spoilers: Roy Harper may have met his fate in that dreaded grave

2. They've outlived their usefulness

They may have been interesting and added to the show, especially in the beginning when we were all trying to understand who Oliver was, but now they seem to drag the story down more than add to it.

Arrow flashback: nope

Arrow flashback: nope

3. They're roadblocks

You know when you're driving along on the freeway, singing to your favorite tune and making great time to your destination only to have everything ruined by construction? That's what the flashbacks are now.

Arrow flashback: stop already

Arrow flashback: stop already

4. They're kind of boring

Except for the fact that they often bring with them some shirtless Oliver (and for that we will always be grateful), no one really cares about what is happening in the flashbacks. Other than Oliver, none of the characters are usually ones we care about, either. That's a recipe for boring if we ever saw one.

More: Arrow's holiday episode just schooled humans on 14 surprising life lessons

5. They're confusing as hell

Arrow is a complex show as it is, adding another story underneath the first, second and often third and fourth in an episode is taking things way too far. By the time a flashback hits, we're left wondering what in the world is going on.

Arrow flashback: what is happening

6. The story would be better served in the present

We know the flashbacks are meant to give us background on Oliver, but that information could be delivered by watching who he is in the present. Why do we need to keep going to the past to find out who he is now?

7. They might work better less frequently

Flashbacks can be a useful vehicle for adding depth to a story line, but every single episode is a bit much. Maybe if they went down to a flashback once every few episodes, fans wouldn't want to throw their TVs out of their windows every time they came on.

More: Arrow's time travel episode: Cool plot twist or just plain lame?

8. Even the fans are done with them

Even those who love the show hate the flashbacks now. If you don't believe us, just hang out on the interwebs during any episode of Arrow recently. As soon as the flashbacks show up, the love goes away really quickly.

Mob Wives: 5 Reasons I'm Team Drita

More: Let's hope Mob Wives' Big Ang gets well soon

ladies
Image: VH1

I will be transparent with you. Drita has been my favorite cast member of Mob Wives since Season 1, and my affection has endured through all the hair pulling, threats, failed dinners/parties/vacations and screaming fights. (You can't choose who you love, OK?) The final season of Mob Wives is basically an infant and already there's a huge divide between Drita and the rest of the group. My loyalty will not budge and here are some reasons why

1. You don't have to be friends with everyone, not even if you're all on TV

Carla and Drita used to be BFFs. Now they're not. Same with Karen and Drita. This is all very sad, but why aren't they? Drita's constantly reacting to allegations leveled at her and she's almost never in the same room with the people who are talking about her. The rest of time? She's being friends with Ang and doing LadyBoss-related things. She's not obsessed with fixing relationships with people who seem to enjoy surviving on drama. This is also known as having your own life.

2. Please get over it, Karen

I know I'm not the only one who thinks Karen's problems with Drita started when Drita and Lee became a couple. Karen and Drita fought about that in Season 1 and Karen still won't stop bringing it up. It reminds me of how Kristen could not deal with Tom and Ariana and spent an entire season dredging up ridiculousness, even when she was in a relationship with James. If Karen's still upset about the way Drita and Lee handled themselves, fine. (I mean, it's not really fine.) But at least be honest about it.

3. Renee is the queen of drama

On Wednesday's episode, Drita told Brittany that Renee is super dramatic and the source of all the drama in the group. Probably not the best move, considering Brittany then went and told everyone what Drita said, but there is basically no more verifiable claim than the one about Renee, because she has been starting drama for six seasons in a row. She's either starting the drama or perpetuating it. This is actually provable by a Venn diagram.

4. Drita was a really good friend to Carla

Before Carla left the show in Season 4, Drita had spent a lot of time trying to shield her from difficult relationships with annoying people (i.e. Ramona Rizzo) — and that's just what we saw on camera. Ang pointed out to Carla on this week's episode that Drita has constantly defended her, but Carla never did the same. In an interview with Fashion and Style, Drita was asked how she felt about Carla returning to the show, and she mentioned the ridiculousness of coming back and snubbing "the one person who liked you and protected you." Yikes.

5. Nice job, reality TV

Between last week's episode and this week's, I've had to make peace with the fact that this is a reality show, so everyone is actually mad at Drita and it's unlikely that this is all going to get better by the end of the season. The fact that Carla and Drita are not only not friends but now want to murder each other probably means the producers figured out that they weren't friends and decided to bring Carla back to dredge it all up. It's like the season's being set up around hating Drita and fighting about it, which is just the worst, and also so entertaining.

Pilot fakes an emergency so he can propose to his girlfriend (VIDEO)

A California man uploaded a video of his December proposal to his girlfriend while leaving Catalina Island, and it's pretty scary.

More: Man plans the perfect proposal for his Friends-obsessed girlfriend

The man, only identified by his YouTube name Ogotrice, was commandeering the plane when he told his only passenger — his girlfriend — that the flight controls were malfunctioning.

"Don't worry; stay calm, I've done this before. The flight controls are not responding, see?" he tells her via microphone. She stays remarkably calm when he tells her to get out the emergency instructions.

"There's an emergency procedure for this. Let me get you the list. You're going to have to read it for me, OK?" She nods and starts reading the fake procedures.

"If needed, conduct ring engagement procedure," she says as he reaches for another sheet and asks her to read the lines one by one.

"Do you love the pilot?' she asks, laughing and responding, "Yes."

"Do you want to spend the rest of your life with him,' she continues, saying yes again. He pulls out an engagement ring, showing it to the GoPro camera he used to record the whole thing.

"Will you be my copilot for life?" That was also a yes, even though she admitted to being terrified. "You scared me!"

That's an understatement... and one forgiving girlfriend!

The sneaky way your smartphone camera makes you look older

I've pretty much accepted myself for who I am, but I refuse to believe that I really look as old as my pictures make it seem. I spend too much on retinol and moisturizer to look a day past... 29. I mean, no, not a day past 33 (my real age).

More: 6 Foods that may be causing your wrinkles

And it turns out I'm right, at least according to one plastic surgeon. Dr. Rajiv Grover told the U.K. Guardian that the camera's lens and the angle can add as much as seven years to your visage.

“The phone’s 28mm camera lens does exactly what time does to your face, enlarging the front of your face so that it looks bigger, as well as amplifying the features that get larger as you age," he explained. “Add to that the fact that you tend to look down at your phone, which makes the skin on your neck and jowls look saggy."

Basically, the wide-angle lens makes it easy to distort your face, giving you a hollow look.

"Put simply, the classic selfie resembles the balance of an older face rather than a younger face," he continued. "By taking away the beauty of the central triangle and exaggerating the central features the photo effects are actually mimicking the aging process itself!"

Selfies are triggering more women to seek out his surgical services, he said, but there's a fix that's much easier on your wallet: Get a selfie stick.

"A shot from above looking up stretches the neck, defines the jaw and distributes your soft tissue in your face more peripherally so that your face appears more balanced like it does in youth," he said.

Supernatural: Castiel's devilish new role means bad things for Sam and Dean

More: Supernatural characters make New Year's resolutions for 2016

The answer is probably no, or at least they hopefully will by the time the series ends. Anyway, back to what's important at this point in time. First and foremost, no, Amara did not die, which means she is still alive and kicking. Although, she did stumble and appeared a bit weak. Did that smiting weaken her mojo? That's a question for another day.

Oh, and that death? Yeah, Rowena is no more, thanks to Lucifer snapping her neck. That's right, the devil is back in action, but more on that in a second. As much as I enjoyed watching Ruth Connell strut her stuff as Crowley's mother, it's probably better her character is dead and gone, because can you imagine if Rowena teamed up with Lucifer? That would be double the trouble and even worse for Sam and Dean.

Lucifer
Image: Tumblr

So, how did Lucifer return to Earth? Oh, you know, when Castiel said yes to becoming his vessel. That's right, Sammy refused, but Castiel somehow became convinced Lucifer can truly stop Amara. I'm sure many saw this coming, especially after that new Supernatural trailer was released Tuesday, but it was still a shocking moment. Not to mention, seeing Misha Collins transition from Cas to Lucifer is the best thing I've seen all week.

More: Supernatural: 7 Bobby and Rufus moments that need to be in Season 11

Now that Cas is no longer the sweet angel fans know and love, he is going to wreak havoc as the Devil. So, not only do Sam and Dean have to worry about The Darkness, but they also have to figure out a way to save Cas from Lucifer and stop Lucifer from doing whatever evil he has in store for the world. If he can truly put a stop to Amara, what will he do after that is all said and done? Will he try to bring on the Apocalypse again, like Sam suggested? It's Lucifer, so anything can happen.

Sam and Dean definitely have their work cut out for them. Also, let's imagine their faces when they finally learn Cas said yes to Lucifer. They surely won't be happy about it. Maybe now is a good time for G-O-D to show his face. His visit is way overdue.

As bad as all of this is, at least fans can look forward to more amazing Lucifer impressions from Collins, right? I mean, this is just perfection.

Former Y&R star Victoria Rowell leads boycott against daytime shows

On Monday, former The Young and the Restless star Victoria Rowell posted some direct words about the issue of diversity in all of the entertainment industry. This isn't the first time she's blasted Hollywood on social media, but this is the first time she's holding every medium accountable.

Victoria Rowell call for ban

Victoria Rowell call for ban

This call to action comes on the heels of her own lawsuit against CBS and Sony for racial discrimination during the time she played Drucilla Winters on the daytime soap.

The actress left the show in 2007 after she claimed, in court documents obtained by Radar Online, there was a "lack of racial equity on set at Y&R resulted in me being on the receiving end of various racially charged attacks, by white Y&R actors and executives."

The suit was dismissed in November 2015, but Rowell’s lawyers have filed for an appeal.

The actress wants her fans to not only boycott daytime shows without diversity, she wants the ban to include primetime series as well. If she were successful with blacklisting certain shows, this would have a far and wide impact in the industry.

The reaction to her tweet was a mixed bag. Rowell had a few tweets of support, but most dismissed her cry as sour grapes for her own situation.

The Sister Wives brood has expanded yet again! Say hello to Robyn and Kody’s latest addition — a beautiful baby girl named Ariella Mae, who was welcomed into the family fold on Sunday, Jan. 10 at their home in Las Vegas. The little girl arrived fashionably late — two days after Robyn’s original due date — but her arrival was nonetheless heralded as a blessing for the family, whose children now number 18 in total.

Baby Ariella is the second child for Robyn and Kody (Solomon is their oldest and Robyn has three from a previous marriage), and while that makes them old pros at parenting, they’ve admitted that finding the perfect name for the tiny tot was somewhat of a struggle. Right after welcoming her daughter into the world, Robyn said, “Right now we haven’t decided on a name. We have been searching for the right one for months, but nothing has felt right. We are just getting to know her now and waiting until she whispers it in our ear.”

Since then, the little girl must have made her voice heard loud and clear. Now fans online want to make sure they get her moniker right. One asked Robyn via Twitter, “Is it ‘air-iella’ or ‘aahhh-riella’? Hope it makes sense. Want to say your sweet girl’s name properly. #ariellamae.” Robyn set the record straight. “'Ar' like in 'star.' It is Hebrew. We will call her Ari or Aria for short.”
