Kim Fields attacked for sheltering her children from race issues

The addition of Kim Fields to the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta has been a hot button issue all season long. Her laid-back, family-first approach to life has conflicted with the rest of the Housewives, who would rather booze it up on a boat than eat homemade snacks and quietly read a book.

The many differences between Fields and her cast mates were once again evident during tonight's RHOA episode. For the second time this season, Kim had to extract herself from a situation she wasn't comfortable with. This time, the problematic situation involved her kids.

MoreRHOA producers reportedly axed 'boring' transgender cast member

This season has not been particularly family-friendly, with physical attacks and shouting matches occurring on a regular basis. You would think that a laid-back group meeting with Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson would be a relatively tame affair, but few things ever go as planned on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Fields brought her two young children to the meeting and was mortified when Wilson made a bold statement about how people do not like African American boys. Upon hearing this, Fields quickly rushed her two children out of the room. This move drew mixed responses from viewers:

After calmly explaining to her son Sebastian that sometimes people are judged by the color of their skin, Fields decided to head back to the shuttle bus to regroup. This move drew unanimous scorn from the rest of the cast, and even Sheree Whitfield felt the need to chime in with some disapproval of her own.

While Fields can certainly be blamed for bringing two incredibly bored children to a decidedly grown-up event (young Sebastian referred to the ordeal as "meeting people of stupid Congress. Who cares?"), it's not fair to call her out for her parenting skills. Even the best parents struggle to appropriately discuss issues such as racism in America with their children. Yes, it would be great for Fields to tackle the issue head-on, but she's not the only person who has frozen up in this type of situation.

RHOP joins the other Real Housewives in quickly bringing in race

More: Bravo cancels The Real Housewives of D.C.

Ashley

Oh, were you not looking to expand your Real Housewives viewing opportunities? Were you fine with the available Beverly Hills/Atlanta/New Jersey/New York/Orange County/Melbourne selection? Well, now you can enjoy another drama-laden location — Potomac.

RHOP is similar to the rest of the franchise — everything is expensive and shiny, the homes are lavish, and everyone acts like it's normal to have a bajillion dollars. (Bajillion is a technical term.) Like The Real Housewives of Atlanta, the cast of RHOP is comprised entirely of women of color, each with a different relationship to money — some have married into it, some are new to it, others were born into it. RHOA often dives right into confronting issues of race, as they did on Sunday's new episode with the Million Man March, and RHOP also seems to be revving up to talk about race, or at least making viewers talk about it.

Potomac, if you were not aware, is a super-wealthy suburb of Washington, D.C. It is also a predominantly white super-wealthy suburb (75% white, specifically). It took viewers on Twitter no time to latch on to the complicated race dynamics of the show — almost the entire cast, with the exception of one (Charrisse Jackson Jordan) is light skinned.

More: The Real Housewives franchise is hitting the road for a live tour!

Colorism is discrimination against individuals, often of the same ethnic group, with a dark skin tone. It's pretty safe to say that this isn't something we've seen on any Real Housewives episode — ever — and, although it wasn't specifically brought up on the premiere of RHOP, it is certainly not something you'd miss if you were aware that it exists. In addition to the question of skin color, there's the matter of Charrisse Jackson Jordan wielding the word "ghetto," which brings up a whole host of race and class issues, and definitely isn't getting Charrisse any love from viewers.

So, this is only the first episode of RHOP and already the stage is set for a whole different kind of conflict, which may or may not manifest itself, but is certainly present for viewers. The Real Housewives franchise, for the most part, hasn't engaged with issues of race (although, remember that time Brandi told Joyce she was like a black person because she didn't swim?), class (except for when people talk about how lucky they are to have tons and tons of money), and sexuality (except for brief forays into same-sex make-outs), but anyone watching who is well-versed in these issues — or who just pays attention to life on Earth — will notice what goes on below, and close to, the surface.

3 Women on why they stayed married through their spouse's gender transition

1. "I loved the person, not the penis."

During the first two decades of their married life Kim and Bill had sex perhaps five times a year. Kim, 55 and a New Yorker, says, "Otherwise we were so compatible that the lack of boudoir time didn’t feel like a deal breaker."

When Bill confessed his secret — he was a woman trapped inside a man’s body and planned to transition, Kim was shocked. But it never occurred to her to leave. "I couldn’t imagine life without this wonderful person in it."

More: Couple's divorce story is actually incredibly romantic

In this situation both people have to feel that their needs matter. The wife of a transitioning partner is already dealing with eventualities she’d never bargained for; some things must remain under her control.

In the case of Kim and Billie, the compromise is there is no sex in or out of the marriage. Four years after the transition, Kim says, "I know Billie wonders what it would be like to be intimate with a woman but I’m not going to try that and she’s OK with it. Sex was never hugely important to us but our deep emotional intimacy is something neither of us wants to be without."

2. "I stayed for the kids."

Sienna (all names changed) was thrown into total shock when her husband of 15 years said he wanted to have the surgery. Sienna, 42 and from Los Angeles, said, "Dan and I had not been close for a long time. We kept a united front for the children and while this was going on I felt it was even more important to operate as a family."

It’s a selfless and caring move to make sacrifices for the children and to be supportive to your mate but in such an extreme situation it's essential to do self-care, otherwise you will totally fall apart and that won’t benefit anyone.

More: 6 Divorce rules all couples should follow

In Sienna’s case it was clear there would be an end game — she planned to leave when the children became more comfortable with the idea. She also set boundaries with her spouse — they did not sleep in the same room (the kids knew this); she had a sexual relationship with another man (her spouse knew; the kids did not). Sienna said, "The family would have dinner together at least three times a week to have an open ‘transition’ discussion. This was important to help the kids deal with their emotions and confusion."

Nine months in, after Dan (now Dania) recovered from the final operation, Sienna left. The former spouses have shared custody of their children.

3. "I was a latent lesbian."

For Ellen, after 15 years of marriage, the news that her husband Sam wanted to transition to a woman was initially "a punch in the gut." Ellen, a 42-year-old San Franciscan, says, "It wasn’t news that he felt ‘wrong’ in a man’s body but that didn’t mean such a radical shift in our marriage would be right for me." She adds, "I had been sexually intimate with a woman during college so that aspect didn’t feel totally foreign."

More: How to save your marriage when your spouse wants a divorce

Indeed her openness to explore led to a discovery some other wives of transgender people have experienced: She preferred sex with Samantha to sex with Sam. When you love and trust in someone implicitly and they become more comfortable in their skin — the physical experience can deepen as well.

Ellen says, “While I wouldn’t have chosen for this to happen I don’t regret that my husband has become my wife.”

Teen Mom's Briana DeJesus gets painful plastic surgery

DeJesus is spending this week down in Miami getting extensive plastic surgery with Dr. Michael Salzhauer (aka "Dr. Miami"), and splurged on new breast implants, a butt lift, liposuction and vaginal rejuvenation surgery.

"She ended up getting bigger implants from 375cc to 650cc, a Brazilian butt lift, liposuction and a labiaplasty," a rep for DeJesus told Radar Online. "Briana's surgery went well."

More: Farrah Abraham tweets pics of her horrifying botched lip injections (PHOTO)

Before she went under the knife, DeJesus told Radar that the breast augmentation she just got in 2015 was not quite big enough for her liking.

"I'm going to get another breast augmentation," she explained. "I am going to go bigger. I had a breast augmentation done a few months ago. It's a C now. I like the size that they are, but I want to go bigger."

She also talked about the process of the Brazilian butt lift, which sounds… interesting.

"That is taking fat from my stomach and back and putting it into my butt and thighs," she said. "I like my butt now, but I just want to have everything... be perfect."

The labiaplasty, she explained, is "where they take the extra skin from your private area and remove it." Ouch.

"It's like extra skin down there that I don't think is necessary, so I'm just going to snip it up and tie it up and have a cute vagina," she said. "When you get pregnant, your body changes. So I wanted to go back to my pre-pregnancy body."

More: Teen Mom's Catelynn Lowell makes a surprising confession about her health

DeJesus will spend the next two weeks recovering in Miami, but complete recovery — including no more swelling and bruises — will take about six weeks.

"It's kind of scary," she admitted. "I'm so nervous. Dr. Miami told me that when I wake up, I'm going to feel like a semi truck ran over me a few times.

"I have a nice body, but I just want it to be perfect," she said. "I want to have a nice body. I want to be a cool young mom."

DeJesus made the whole thing into a family affair: Her sister Brittany is also getting a Brazilian butt lift, liposuction and a fat transfer to her breasts. "Dr. Miami said he was willing to do us both at the same time, so I said we might as well get it done together," DeJesus said. "We got pregnant together."

But if you're feeling judgey about the work they got done, she says you can save the drama for your mama.

"I don't care what people have to say. I am doing this for myself to make myself happy."

Sophia has never met her dad, Derek Underwood, who died in a car accident two months before she was born. And as Sophia gets older, it's clear that she feels the void that not having a father has left in her life.

In a teaser for a new episode of Teen Mom OG, Abraham and Sophia are on their way to visit Underwood's family in Missouri when Sophia makes a heartbreaking demand of her mother: She wants a dad.

"I wish Daddy Derek didn't die. Why can Simon not be my daddy?" Sophia asks Abraham, referring to the Teen Mom and adult film star's most recent beau, Simon Saran.

Abraham calmly explains to her daughter that her relationship with Saran is over, but Sophia lays her head in Abraham's lap and becomes more upset about losing her father figure.

Experts confused about when women should stop getting mammograms

More: Scientists may have discovered how to stop breast cancer from growing

The Canadian Cancer Society recommends that women aged 50 to 69 get a mammogram every two years. For those 70 or older, it's a little less clear. Their advice to older women is simply: "Talk to your doctor about how often you should have a mammogram." Guidelines regarding breast cancer screening in older women vary province to province, as nobody's come to a firm agreement on the best approach.

The medical community is divided on how often older women should have mammograms, or if they should even bother (a pretty dismal view in my opinion): "If we pick up a cancer in someone who's 75 and they die at 76 of something else, did it really matter? That's really the question here," Dr. Susan Boolbol — breast surgery chief at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York — told the Associated Press.

Of course, many disagree with Boolbol's statement. After all, who is anyone to put a cost-benefit analysis on what a year or even months of a senior woman's life are worth?

Canada isn't the only country with a mishmash of different expert opinions on how often senior women should get screened. People south of the border lack clear guidelines for mammograms in older women too: The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recently admitted that they didn't have the evidence to either recommend whether or not women over 75 years of age should or shouldn't get mammograms. Why? Researchers simply haven't studied breast cancer in older women enough.

More: Who really needs a double mastectomy?

"People are taking better care of themselves," Yale University pathologist Dr. Fattaneh Tavassoli told the Associated Press. "If we don't start discussing it, it's going to be more difficult to come up with management approaches for these patients."

She notes that Yale's medical centre has found more breast cancer in patients 90 and older. While the center diagnosed only abut one a year in the 1990s, now she says that 8 times a year they're finding breast cancer in women over 90.

Is the medical community neglecting the health of older women by failing to take a closer look at the needs of senior women when it comes to preventing breast cancer? Let's let the numbers tell the story: 1 in 4 of the cancers diagnosed in women are breast cancers, and it's estimated that 1 in 30 Canadian women die a year from breast cancer. Add the fact that Canada has a rapidly aging population according to Statistics Canada — with nearly six million people 65 years of age or older (outnumbering the youth under age 15) — and it couldn't be clearer that the system is failing to protect a huge percentage of the population.

It's crucial that researchers take a closer look at the unique needs of aging women when it comes to breast cancer prevention.

In this twist on classic potato skins — and with a nod to the other classic appetizer, spinach-artichoke dip — I turned sweet potato skins into a delicious vegetarian bite.

Just like with potato skins, use a spoon to gently scrape the flesh from each sweet potato half. Then pack in the light cream cheese and veggie filling to add so much flavor (but at the same time won’t totally wreck your healthy-eating habits). Feel free to change up the ingredients to your own liking, but we love the combination of flavors in this tasty appetizer.

  6. In a bowl, combine the remaining ingredients, and mix well.
  7. Fill each potato skin with the mixture, and place them on the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 12 – 15 minutes or until the tops of the skins begin to brown.

No, being a stay-at-home mom is not a 'real' job

$

0

Like many middle-class moms, I've been (mostly) a stay-at-home mom for the entire duration of my parenting career. Aside from a full-time stint as a nurse putting my husband through school for our first year of marriage, I've considered myself a stay-at-home mom first and a part-time nurse second. Last year, I made the leap to quit the hospital work completely and now stay home 100 percent of the time.

And whether it's because I'm just getting older or I'm just more secure in my parenting, I've realized something: I don't care if anyone sees my stay-at-home parenting as a "job."

There's been much hullabaloo in the online parenting world about if staying at home with children is a "real" job. Stay-at-home parents feel the need to defend their roles, and working parents often dish out niceties like, "I don't know how you do it, I'd go crazy!" which are always kind of awkward because, how do you really respond to that either way? Like, "Don't worry, I am going crazy!" or "Well, I'd go crazy doing what you do!" and then `round and `round on the mommy-merry-go-round-to-nowhere we go.

MoreWhat working moms have that stay-at-home moms want

Why anyone cares whether the job is "real" or not is beyond me, but if we're getting technical, then no. No, being a stay-at-home mom is not a "real" job, and frankly I'm glad it's not.

Here's the thing: I feel like we are a tad too intent on equating "jobs" with, essentially, work that kind of makes us miserable. Because if we don't hate it and it doesn't make us count down the hours until it's done, it's not a "real" job, right?

I will happily and freely admit to all the world that staying at home isn't as hard as a "real" job would be, because I have a lot of freedoms that simply wouldn't be possible in a "real," out-of-the-home, bring-home-a-check job. But you know what? I'm proud of that. Sometimes I feel like stay-at-home moms are so focused on proving that staying home is a "real" job that we hold up proof of all of the hard aspects of it like validation. I never get a break, I eat crumbs off the floor for lunch, I'm exhausted and I don't remember the last time I showered, see I'm just as miserable as the rest of you office slaves!

But what good is that doing? Why not stand proudly in our yoga pants at home and shrug our shoulders at those who even debate if staying home is a "real" job. Because really, it doesn't matter if it's a "real" job, a privilege beyond all belief or something that we just kind of fell into on accident, if it's working for our families.

Because I know a lot of stay-at-home moms and I happen to be one, I'm well familiar with that lingering sense of inadequacy that we all seem to have and portray, almost like we're apologizing to the world for being stay-at-home moms. We rush to talk about how busy we are and how much the kids have going on, like we need to justify our mere existence.

More: Stay-at-home moms are dragging women backwards

And honestly, I'm tired of the charade. You want to know the truth? I don't think staying home is a "real" job. I think it's vital for a lot of families, I think it's very real work and I think it's invaluable in a strict economic sense, but I don't think it's a "real" job if the definition of a job is just soul-sucking work. I like staying home and being free of the pressures of a "real" job and bosses and schedules and working on holidays. I don't miss any of that.

MoreWorking moms could use a little help — from stay-at-home moms

So, really, I don't need anyone else to call being a stay-at-home mom a "job." Because having that kind of job is frankly not my ideal anyway. I've had "real" jobs and they kind of suck. There is absolutely no point in all of us stay-at-home parents commiserating about how hard it is do what we do, as if misery is proof of a "real" job.

I'm quite happy if you want to scoff at me and my messy bun or shake your head at the thought of being home all day making cookies. That's cool with me. Because while some days are harder than heck, some days I really do bake cookies all day. Some days as a stay-at-home mom really are your everyday, run-of-the-mill clichés of watching snowflakes and drinking hot chocolate and playing with my kids.

So you can call staying home whatever the heck you want, because either way, I'm pretty darn happy to have the chance to do it.

6 Ways to protect kids from toxic jewelry

More: Scary chemical found in almost every baby product out there

Cadmium is a cancer-causing chemical that can damage kidney functions, cause bone loss and have other wide-reaching effects: "Any major system in your body can be harmed by cadmium," James Van Loon — director of risk management at Health Canada's consumer product safety branch — told CBC. The toxic chemical compound shouldn't be in children's jewelry at all, said Van Loon, given that kids' bodies absorb cadmium more easily than adults' bodies.

The results of the Marketplace investigation are pretty scary: One pendant on an Ardene necklace contained 100 per cent cadmium, while a charm from a cheap Aldo bracelet clocked in at 69 per cent cadmium (6,000 times the levels Health Canada says are safe).

"The results were astonishing," said Dr. Gérald Zagury, a specialist on heavy metals in jewelry who performed the tests for Marketplace, adding that the Ardene necklace was "pretty much pure cadmium."

More: 'Baby boxes' that reduce infant mortality rate to be provided in Canada

So what's a concerned parent or aunty to do? Follow these tips to keep kids safe from toxic jewelry:

1. Pay attention to the materials on the label

You should look for jewelry made with safe materials like wool felt, wood, glass beads, paper and cotton thread.

2. Know how to read between the lines

Jewelry that's labeled “not for children” is sometimes full of heavy metals. While you may think your kid or teenager is mature enough to wear the jewelry, don't disregard the label.

3. Communicate with friends and family

Make sure to tell anyone who will be looking after your child not to buy her or him cheap jewelry from coin-operated machines (no matter how much your kid begs!). Often the cheapest jewelry is the most dangerous.

4. Buy jewelry made in Canada

Much of the jewelry found to contain toxic chemicals such as cadmium is made in China. Health Canada has set firm guidelines to keep unsafe levels of cadmium out of jewelry, so buy Canadian whenever possible.

5. Educate yourself about potential risks

Luckily, Marketplace found there was no cadmium in any of the jewelry from H&M, whereas stores such as Ardene and Aldo were found to use unsafe levels of cadmium (though following the investigation, they're now promising to change their ways). Don't be afraid to ask questions when you're out shopping. And you can check out a full list of toxic chemicals found in consumer goods that are harmful to children in this report by the Canadian Environmental Law Association.

6. Get crafty

Why not buy your own nontoxic materials and make your own jewelry? Whip out materials like clay beads, paper and feathers and make an event of crafting together. Check out these ideas from Moms & Crafters and be sure to check the materials that you buy, like paints and beads, are nontoxic.

More than 50 ziplock bags were littered across residential lawns in Midtown, Alabama, containing sand, a couple cards and a flyer sarcastically wishing King a happy birthday. One local resident told Local 15 the flyers were “like a recruitment call… that people could join this order of the Ku Klux Klan.”

The flyers featured one of King’s most famous lines, reading, “We Also Have a Dream.” It went on to claim that “blacks have NAACP, the Mexicans have La Raza, the Jews have JDL and white people have KKK fighting for God, race and our nation since 1866.” The flyers listed a hotline for a North Carolina-based group called Loyal White Knights and a logo that read, “The KKK wants you.” If called, the hotline played recorded messages slamming King’s efforts during the Civil Rights Movement.

KKK group attacks Alabama neighborhood

KKK group attacks Alabama neighborhood

While stunned and understandably upset to find the flyers on their streets, one neighbor — who asked his identity remain anonymous — told Local 15 that he “took it as a learning experience, that we still have a long way to go in our race relations.” Luckily, once discovered, the flyers were immediately removed and as of now, no one has been targeted by the group directly. According to the Daily News, similar flyers were also found on cars parked in Long Island, New York.

This isn’t the first time a KKK group has distributed recruitment flyers in family neighborhoods. It happened several times throughout 2015, including last March when thousands of fliers were left at Selma homes on the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. According to Police officials, if caught, distributors could be charged with criminal littering.

While the hate that still infiltrates our societies is distressing, today and every day we should make time to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s teachings and look to his words for encouragement and guidance. Love is a choice, and just as King said, “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

Menstrual metaphors have been turned into an ingenious art exhibition

$

There's some social discomfort when it comes to talking about menstrual blood, periods, PMS and monthly bleeding, which has led to some pretty interesting menstrual metaphors becoming part of our everyday vernacular.

Often people don't say things like "I have my period," but "a friend has come to visit" or even "mother nature's monthly gift has arrived." Which actually sounds more gross that just stating the facts, really.

More: The Mamafesto: Menstruation shaming has to end. Period.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage us all to call a period what it is, and also see it as a wonderful opportunity for women to take a deep breath, move at a slower pace and have an excuse not to wear white pants. Because unless you're a sailor, that's probably not a good idea anyway. Just saying.

An art exhibition being put on at the Enough Gallery in Melbourne, with the delightful title, "Shark Week" (spoiler — it's got nothing to do with sharks), is shedding some light on the topic and questioning why we can't call a period what it is.

Monsoon Season
Image: Enough Gallery

"Over the years we've conjured up so many euphemisms to allude to menstruation without actually saying the words 'I have my period,'" the exhibition events page says. "Most of them are so hilariously unrelated to periods it's not funny."

Women can expect to have around 450 periods in their lifetime; it's something so incredibly common, yet it's still considered such a taboo.

Having a period is a sign of good health, fertility and youth; it should be celebrated and appreciated, not hidden under the guise of a misnomer metaphor like "riding a cotton pony." Seriously, just stop.

Menstruation art exhibition

But having a period isn't such a positive experience for everyone. Women in some of the poorest countries in the world, such as Sierra Leon, have to rely on pieces of paper, sponges and even bark to absorb the monthly blood flow.

More: 6 Things you should be doing different on your period

The exhibition has been organised by a company called Tsuno, which sells sanitary pads and donates 50 per cent of its profit to charities that empower women around the world.

"Imagine managing your period with bark or missing 39 days of school every year. That's not ok. Millions of women and girls around the world face this reality every month, and we want to change that," entrepreneur and organiser Roz Campbell says.

The idea for the exhibition was sparked when Campbell was told one of the most ridiculous menstrual metaphors she'd ever heard: "I'm having my garage painted."

Not only does that make no sense at all, it just proves that we have got to start using real words to explain a very common experience many women have each and every month. It's time to get real about how we talk about periods. Period.

The exhibition runs until Sunday, Jan. 31. Be sure to check it out if you're in Melbourne.

What metaphors have you used to describe your period? Let us know.

After a week's worth of crazy conspiracy theory-fueled Twitter rants that made many wonder if mental illness had taken hold, Tequila posted a desperate-sounding plea: She needed money to pay her rent and avoid making her and her toddler daughter homeless.

On her fundraising page, Tequila explained, "The reason why I am creating this GoFundMe campaign is because they have raised the rent at my old home to $4,500 a month, and being a single mother without any support from the father, it can sometimes be very tough taking care of 2 people with only a 1 person income."

She went on to explain that she is now moving and needs cash to furnish her new place. Tequila's dire financial straits are a bit confusing, considering she pulled in a reported $175,000 for her stint on Celebrity Big Brother last summer.

"Oh my God! I cannot believe we actually not only reached our goal, but have actually gone PAST it!" she wrote. "This is truly a humbling experience, and has definitely restored my faith in humanity! There was so much hatred thrown at me, especially on here, for trying to find ways to help my daughter and I (sic). I was about to lose hope and faith in humanity again after reading some of the horrid comments, but I felt in my heart that GOD led me here, and to believe that LOVE CONQUERS ALL! And that it has! I was crying so many tears of happiness when I found out we actually hit our goal! Thank you from THE BOTTOM OF MINE AND IZZY'S HEART FOR ALL OF YOUR LOVE, HELP, COMPASSION, AND SUPPORT!"

But not everyone is so supportive. There were a few interesting exchanges on her Twitter feed.

Miley Cyrus confirms relationship with Liam Hemsworth with one ring pic (PHOTO)

The formerly engaged couple, who split two and a half years ago amid Cyrus' increasingly wild behavior, has been spending a lot of time together again recently. Obviously, that's caused rumors to fly that they've rekindled their relationship — and now it's looking more likely than ever.

A photo posted by Cyrus on Instagram Monday morning gives followers a close-up view of her left hand, which has a ring on a certain finger. A familiar-looking ring. A ring that looks suspiciously like the ring Hemsworth gave to Cyrus in 2012, before she sexed up her performances and started having flings with Victoria's Secret Angels.

Check it out below:

She was also spotted wearing the sparkler after landing at JFK Airport on Monday afternoon.

Another piece of evidence: Cyrus and pals were seen unloading some U-Hauls at Hemsworth's house in Los Angeles over the weekend. Is she moving in already?

The pair has gotten tongues wagging since the beginning of the year after being spotted together in Hemsworth's native Australia, including a trip to the Falls Music Festival in Byron Bay, where they were spotted getting quite cozy.

"They were in a large group with Chris Hemsworth and other family," onlooker Ashleigh Saunders told People. "They were chatting and laughing. At one point, Liam was rubbing Miley's back. They looked very happy and affectionate."

Cyrus and Hemsworth broke up after her controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance in 2013, where she caught tons of flak for dry humping Robin Thicke. Since then, she has been tied to Patrick Schwarzenegger and Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell. Hemsworth has reportedly dated Mad Men actress January Jones and singer/actress Eiza Gonzalez.

So are they or aren't they? All signs point to yes, but we'll have to wait for the couple to confirm themselves before we know for sure.

Biggest Loser trainer criticised for postpartum exercise advice

Biggest Loser trainer Michelle Bridges has come under fire this week after sharing some exercise advice to her community of health-inspired mums. The guidance included information about her own exercise routine, three weeks after giving birth to her healthy little boy, Axel.

More: 10 Ways to help you achieve wellness this year

In the post Bridges shares: "Mums have been asking me what I've been doing for training. Here's what I did today. Remember! I'm a professional trainer & have been training for 30yrs. So! For you please dial this down to 15-20mins of total work," she says. "30 mins of 1 minute jog 1 minute walk. 26 minutes 20 sec jog 10 sec walk. Enjoy!"

Within a few milliseconds some social media followers and even some experts have been jumping on the body shaming bandwagon, saying Bridges shouldn't be telling women to jog so soon after giving birth.

Some experts have said that Bridges should instead focus of the importance of strengthening pelvic floor muscles instead of jogging.

More: The most psychologically damaging things parents say, revealed

All I can say is, give the woman a break. Look, Bridges has her moments, remember when she called people freaks for wanting to grow their own veggies, but shaming the personal trainer for doing some light exercise postpartum is about as ridiculous as telling a woman that she can't eat a week's worth of chocolate ice-cream in one sitting. A woman's body is her own and she can understand what it can handle better than you.

People are too quick to jump on the shaming bandwagon when it comes to pregnant women. Women shouldn't do weights, they say, they shouldn't do CrossFit, they fuss, and now they shouldn't go for a jog, either.

There are some serious benefits of going for jogs after a pregnancy. It can improve mental clarity and well-being. I'm not saying you should begin training for a marathon weeks after little Susie is born, but a light jog and walk can do wonders for mental health.

There is no concrete research into how long a woman should wait to exercise after giving birth, situations and fitness levels change from person to person, so rather than shaming Bridges for encouraging her community to jog postpartum, perhaps we should be commending her for encouraging a healthy lifestyle among so many Australians.

Even the Mayo Clinic says that if you feel great, there's no need to wait.

"In the past, health care providers often instructed women to wait at least six weeks after giving birth to begin exercising," the clinic says.

"The waiting game might be over, however. If you had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, it's generally safe to begin exercising as soon as you feel ready."

What do you think? Should Michelle Bridges have been criticised? Let us know.

The Eagles' hit 'Hotel California' played a big, yet strange, role in my life

Anyone who loves music has a favorite Eagles song. To be honest, mine is "Desperado." I just relate to the lyrics, particularly the line, "You better let somebody love you, before it's too late." Let's just say I spent a good portion of my twenties running away from men.

But the one song that's recurred in my life is "Hotel California." Of course, the song's writers Glenn Frey and Don Henley meant the fictional hotel to be a metaphor, but for what? Much has been written about the song symbolizing the hedonism of Los Angeles or the decadence of the rock-star lifestyle. For me it has a different meaning. For me, hearing the song became a death knell to a relationship. Three times, with three different men. No kidding.

MoreYoung Rising Sons on the paranormal, Needtobreathe and covering Justin Bieber

When I was in my twenties, I lived and loved to extremes, sometimes recklessly, though I have few regrets about that decade of my life. I searched for and found lots of adventures, including traveling three times with three men I loved but with whom I couldn't make it work. Please note: The names have been changed to protect the guilty.

1. Chuck the adventurer

Chuck and I had decided to take the vacation of a lifetime and travel to Tanzania, Africa. Both of us had developed an interest in primates and our hope was to visit Jane Goodall's chimpanzees in Gombe. Though the extreme weather prevented us from getting to Gombe, we did go on a traditional safari in the Serengeti.

Because we weren't married at the time, I was told to wear a wedding ring and tell locals we were married, because an unmarried woman traveling with a man may be looked down upon. I was fine with this white lie, but it was too much for Chuck. In the middle of the savanna, as zebra and water buffalo migrated past our vehicle, Chuck felt the need to tell our African safari guide that we were, in fact, not married. The song playing on the radio? "Hotel California" by the Eagles. I was humiliated, but didn't take too much notice of the song that was playing. I just thought it was interesting that a song about California was playing while the man I was with revealed details of my life in California to a stranger. Within a year, Chuck and I had called it quits.

2. Riley the Aussie

Not soon after, I fell for a new man, Riley, and had the opportunity to travel to London for a six-week stay while he worked on an exciting project. I went, but knew the day I arrived it was a mistake. I was on the rebound from Chuck and jumped into this new relationship too soon. I thought the adventure of being in a new city would ease any tension. I was wrong. Within a few weeks, things became a bit icy between us. The moment I won't forget is being in a convenience store and arguing over orange juice. Such a dumb argument, but it escalated because it wasn't orange juice we were really arguing over. The song playing through the ratty convenience store speakers? "Hotel California." But I still didn't realize the song's significance, despite the fact we broke up as soon as I returned home.

MoreDid you make it into Coldplay's Aussie film clip?

3. Jeff the comedian

Another whirlwind romance led to another international trip. Jeff was writing on a comedy show and got three weeks off, and I was flattered he wanted to spend the time with me. Excited, really. I lived in Los Angeles and he in New York, and what I didn't know going into our trip was that he had a girlfriend in New York and had no intention of breaking up with her.

Jeff and I traveled to Morocco and Egypt in Northern Africa. For the most part, we had a great trip and I was feeling optimistic about our chances of staying together until I heard that one song in the back of a cab as we drove through the crowded streets of Casablanca. We both looked at each other, surprised to hear "Hotel California" so far away from home, but that's when it hit me — Jeff and I wouldn't make it and the song was proof. I tried to ignore the implications of the song, but soon enough, he broke things off with me.

Perhaps for me, the song indicated a lonely place in my heart where love couldn't grow. Mostly because I picked men who weren't a good emotional match for me. The line at the end of the song is quite telling. It goes, "You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave." That line alone seemed to doom my relationships.

The good news is that I did find love. Our first vacation together was to Australia for his sister's wedding and though I kept listening for the Eagles song in fear, I never heard it. We are still together today.

May you forever rest in peace, Glenn Frey.

Vanderpump Rules' Scheana Marie is even worse than Jax Taylor

More: Should Vanderpump Rules' Kristen Doute be allowed back in the group?

Apparently, Jax and Scheana are now the dynamic duo when it comes to making Lala Kent look bad and ensuring Brittany Cartwright stays with Jax. Yes, it's as messed up as it sounds. Suffice it to say, this Hawaii/birthday trip isn't as amazing as everyone expected.

After hearing through the grapevine (aka Scheana) that Jax and Lala were flirting majorly, Brittany decided to confront Lala about it. Like the honest person Lala has been so far, she admitted to Brittany that she was definitely flirting with Jax. That said, she also noted that it wasn't all her fault, because Jax told her that things weren't serious with Brittany.

Granted, Jax kind of copped to it in front of Brittany, but also denied it at the same time by blaming it on Lala having a few drinks. Not cool, Jax. The drama and lies didn't stop there, as later on, Lala approached Brittany to inform her that Jax also said he wanted to have sex with her. Guess what? Jax denied that to Brittany's face, too.

Scheana Marie
Image: Tumblr

Lala tried her hardest to get Brittany to believe her. Her efforts might've worked if it weren't for Scheana, who waltzed over and said that all she saw during their night out was Jax and Lala whispering, in addition to Jax squirming in his seat. Obviously, this is a lie, because both Scheana and Kristen Doute heard Jax say he wanted to have sex with Lala.

More: Tom Schwartz's proposal on Vanderpump Rules was beyond nerve-racking

It's expected of Jax to lie, so it doesn't faze me at this point, even though it is still really irritating. However, Scheana covering up for Jax? What's that about? Per Scheana, she really likes Brittany and doesn't want to ruin her relationship with Jax. That's not a good enough reason, if you ask me. Plus, Scheana is the one who ran to Brittany and told her about Lala and Jax flirting in the first place. Scheana, if you can't handle the heat and don't want to be put in the middle of something, then don't say anything at all. Well, I guess now Jax can rely on Scheana to lie for him when it comes to Brittany.

That said, I can only imagine what is running through Brittany's head after seeing the episode and realizing Lala was the only one telling the truth. Basically, Brittany needs to run as far away from Jax as possible.

As for Scheana? She needs to stop stirring the pot and making Jax look like the good guy, when he clearly isn't.

Vanderpump Rules airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.

First case of the Zika virus found in the United States

A mother recently gave birth to a child infected with Zika on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. But the Centers for Disease Control advises that it's not yet necessary for American women to worry about the virus.

More: I spent my life savings to freeze my eggs before fibroid surgery

"The mother likely had Zika infection when she was residing in Brazil in May 2015 and her newborn acquired the infection in the womb," a rep for Hawaii's health department said, according to CNN. "Neither the baby nor the mother are infectious, and there was never a risk of transmission in Hawaii."

However, there is some worry that there's the potential for infected individuals to spread the virus to mosquitoes in the United States.

What is the Zika virus?

The Zika virus is spread by mosquitoes and is known to cause birth defects in newborns, including microcephaly, a congenital brain condition that causes underdevelopment of the brain or head, or both. It can also cause babies to be born with smaller-than-normal heads or Down syndrome. Some have trouble receiving enough oxygen in the brain.

More: Blogger shares shocking hospital photo to warn against binge drinking

It's spread through the bites of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a common insect found in subtropical climates known for spreading all sorts of nastiness, including the dengue and yellow fevers and the Chikungunya virus. Though Zika is a somewhat common virus that typically brings on minor symptoms, the number of cases in pregnant Brazilian women in 2015 — 3,500 cases of microcephaly with 46 infant deaths — made health officials take notice, especially since there were only 147 cases in all of 2014.

Will there be a Zika outbreak in the United States?

It's not likely that Zika will become a huge problem in the United States, according to the CDC. However, pregnant women are advised to stay away from Puerto Rico, along with Central and South America, whenever possible. If travel is unavoidable, the CDC recommends taking plenty of precautions to keep mosquitoes away.

More: Frozen poop pills may be the key to beating obesity

As for the United States, the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are already found in many parts of the mainland, but as of now you're more likely to get other illnesses from the bites. The best line of defense? Stay away from places where mosquitoes breed — like stagnant water — and wear plenty of repellant.

1. His love for his wife is the epitome of #RelationshipGoals

Heartbreak is common on The Biggest Loser, but few moments were as painful as when poor Wright was forced to bid his wife adieu. Although she failed to lose enough weight to move on in the competition, Wright made it clear that he was proud of her — and that he would always love her, regardless of her weight.

2. He maintains a positive attitude, even when the going gets tough

Wright has dealt with a lot of adversity over the years. When he was in his early 20s, his father committed suicide. Shortly thereafter, his younger brother died in a devastating car accident. He used food to cope, but now he's ready to build healthy habits and find a better way to channel his emotions. He's come a long way in a short amount of time and his positive attitude is an inspiration for the entirety of the cast, as well as for Biggest Loser fans.

3. He's a natural leader

During tonight's episode of The Biggest Loser, Jen Widerstrom claimed that Wright was the ultimate leader. No, he's not the Richard Hatch kind of leader; instead, he leads by example. Rather than taking charge and bossing others around, he gets his teammates motivated by working hard and remaining positive.

4. He's a down-home country boy

There's something appealing about a small-town guy with big aspirations. Wright was born and raised in the small community of Screven, Georgia; this background likely has contributed to his affable nature.

Supergirl's Winn episode met with some major backlash from fans

Everything started off on the right foot, with Winn battling his own inner demons as his father, the villainous Toyman, escapes from prison and starts threatening public safety. Caught up in the overwhelming emotions he's dealing with, Winn kisses Kara, which, of course, she brutally rebuffs.

Still from Supergirl
Image: Monty Brinton/CBS

Later in the episode, Winn professes his love to Kara and tells her he's been in love with her since before she was Supergirl, which was super overdue. The confession was courageous, heartfelt and instantly won a ton of viewers over — because who hasn't dealt with the sting of unrequited love?

More: Supergirl's new villain may become the best character on the show

Kara politely rebuffs him again, using the age-old "I don't want to ruin our friendship" excuse, and this is where things quickly go downhill for Winn and his story line. Winn doesn't handle the rejection well and paves the way for turning into a villain himself.

Here's what had fans up in arms.

Winn's reaction to Kara turning him down is dangerous

Some fans felt what Winn had to say after Kara turned him down was a completely inappropriate response to the situation. The "I can't keep bottling things up" speech seemed vaguely threatening and many have theorized that Winn will use the rejection as an excuse to turn evil. Can you image what kind of world we would live in if everyone used getting shot down as an excuse to get violent?

It was a male-oriented episode

Supergirl's whole deal is that the show is supposed to be a girl power extravaganza, and this episode most definitely was not.

Again, coming from a feminist-themed show, the idea that Kara should even entertain the thought that Winn's feelings and behavior are her fault is not cool. The writers didn't even have Alex tell Kara it wasn't her fault when she ran to her sister about the situation.

Quite a few Supergirl viewers are just over Winn, plain and simple.

While I do agree Winn's reaction to Kara turning him down was completely unfair, I also personally believe making the character a villain is the only way to preserve his story line on the show. Otherwise, he's just stale.
