Middle school kid charged with assault for throwing food

With a baby carrot.

The carrot, which measures 1-3/4 inches long, is being considered a weapon in the case of 14-year-old Aliya, who allegedly chucked it at a passing teacher in the hallway. According to police, the Henrico County teen was walking through the hallway when she saw the teacher, dug the baby carrot out of her pants pocket and threw it at the teacher, she maintains, as part of a "joke." Her mother, Karrie May, also insists that her daughter was "playing" and is in shock in regards to the fallout:

“Yes, it happened, and I can see a couple of days in school detention or even a couple days out-of-school suspension. But this goes way beyond that. We have to go to court, and her charges aren't small: assault and battery with a weapon."

It's true. Aliya, who has already been suspended for a month, might now have to go to court to face assault and battery charges. Assaulting a school employee or teacher while they're doing their job is a Class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia, which, for a juvenile, could result in up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.

More: Kids reveal their 'real' selves on secret Instagram accounts

There's probably more to this story than May and her daughter are letting on, given that most students don't stash delicious snack veggies in their pockets on the off chance they might use them as projectiles later as part of a joke. But even if we never get to the root of the issue, there's something really wrong with bringing criminal charges against a 14-year-old for flinging garden vegetables.

Clearly it's beyond inappropriate to throw things at a teacher. The teacher in question was unhurt by the incident but could have been injured if the carrot hit her in, say, the eye instead of the forehead. There's absolutely no question that if your child does something as obnoxious as chucking food or anything else at one of their teachers, they are being vastly disrespectful, and it should not surprise you if they are suspended or even expelled for doing it.

More: Bully super-glues a teen's hair, and the punishment is a joke

That said, what is with the uptick in kids being criminally charged for this stuff? Much like the teens who are charged with making and distributing child porn and go on sex offender registries for sending their boyfriend or girlfriend a sext, turning teenagers into criminals over dumb teenage pranks is overkill.

Juvenile detention is no joke, and it's no place to toss kids who toss carrots or take dirty pics. Studies have shown that kids in detention centers are more likely to re-offend, more likely to engage in self-harm and to cost the government a whole lot of money to detain.

No one's saying Aliya would definitely end up in juvie for sure if she's charged and found guilty, but it's also a real possibility. Not to mention court cases aren't cheap for taxpayers. Isn't there a more effective — and cheaper — way to dole out consequences for our kids?

More: Florida parents up in arms about 'Lifeboat Test' for sixth-graders

Again, in no way is it even remotely OK for kids to hit their teachers — with carrots or otherwise, in jest or no. But why not just suspend a kid and be done with it?

Teens don't have a fully developed set of reasoning skills, which is why so many of us have made pretty awful decisions in our salad days. Those decisions result in appropriate consequences, which is right. It just doesn't seem like the appropriate consequence for throwing a carrot should be the state throwing the book at a kid.

How to enjoy the perks of living as a single woman in New York City

I have moments of weakness where I wish I had someone to cuddle with, converse about my daily adventures or just enjoy spontaneous date nights. I have friends who are either in successful long term relationships or married. As much as I would want to achieve that level in the love department, I need to learn how to develop a successful long term relationship with myself. To graduate from the school of self-love, I compiled a list of perks of living as a single New York Woman.

Spending more quality time with myself

I have time to fix my worst qualities while improving on my best qualities. I want to be the best — not perfect — image of myself for myself. The best way to spend some quality time with myself is living in an apartment on my own.

Taking time to practice meditation and yoga

I love yoga and meditation. It is like letting go of the negative weight from my past relationships and beginning a new outlook on life. Plus, yoga helps me shed some pounds while improving my flexibility. Guys like that, right? Flexibility?

Focusing on career and talent development

In the past, I experienced my fair share of negativity whenever I talked about my dream writing career. They would constantly tell me that I couldn't do it or that it is impossible. Being single, I can believe that I can become a successful writer. I can be my own self-motivator. I have more time for myself to shape and improve my craft.

Creating a Prince Charming wish list

I have an opportunity to sit down and think about the qualities I need in my future partner. In the past, I had a bad habit of jumping into relationships without thinking about the qualities I need in my potential partner. It always ends badly. It is time to break the cycle.

Understanding a relationship can happen in the future

If I take advantage of these perks, I will find my Prince Charming someday. Until that day comes, I will be my own dream partner and do what is best for my heart. Living the single life as a New York woman is a wonderful life filled with wonder and adventure. If you are single, don’t feel discouraged. Love yourself before you give your heart to another.

More: Jessa Duggar's fans think she's having a girl for odd reason (PHOTO)

On Thursday, Jessa posted a close-up photo of her baby's face (taken from her ultrasound), which she compared to baby pictures of herself and husband Ben Seewald.

Jessa shared her excitement over the picture in the caption, writing, "Sitting here dreaming about the moment when we will meet our little one face-to-face... and wondering if our baby will carry more Seewald or Duggar characteristics and features! I'm thinking #BabySeewald will be a sweet mix of the two of us! What do you think? Just 10 more days till baby's due date!"

As with most things Jessa posts, she got an overwhelming reaction; this time from fans sharing who they think Baby Seewald looks most like — and Jessa may be disappointed with the responses.

"Looks like baby has daddy's nose," sandyandi wrote.

"You're having a boy. And he looks like your husband," mdiamore533 wrote. Mrs_purenrg agreed, writing, "I think it's a boy. He already looks like Ben @jessaseewald."

"Sorry dear but that is a baby boy who will look just like his daddy. U jus got to carry him lol," bbarnes8315 wrote.

koko_williams26 shared, "Awwwwwwww the baby looks more like ben."

However, tamz1976 was among the few fans that thought the baby looked more like Jessa. She wrote, "Looking like mommy, check the chin ? @jessaseewald."

The general consensus seems to be that Baby Seewald is going to be a little boy, and he already has strong features that match his father's.

But fans will have to keep up the guessing game for at least another week (unless the baby decides to come early), because Jessa is not revealing the gender until after the birth.

3 Reasons why Chicago should be your next getaway

The "more" made me fall head first in love with the city while on a getaway to Chicago earlier this month. I know, you're probably thinking Chi-town doesn’t exactly seem like an ideal place for a getaway, but it’s certainly a city you should experience very soon.

Chicago

3 Reasons you should visit Chicago:

1. The Architecture will leave you speechless

Chicago
Image: Shakiyla Newland/SheKnows

Gaze on the Chicago skyline to experience art in building form. The attractive skyline filled with a variety of designs and intricate carvings is in a league of its own. The beauty of the city doesn't stop there. Art spills out onto the streets and parks of downtown Chicago, where some of the most amazing sculptures are on display. In other words, be prepared to take some of the best selfies ever.

2. Chicago has more to offer than just pizza

Chicago

Don't even try to escape pizza while in Chicago. Pizza is embedded in the culture, but Chicago's restaurants have so much more to offer. Slurping Turtle offers Japanese Comfort Food, like its amazing ramen and duck-fat fried chicken. Yes, it’s as amazing as it sounds. Stan’s Donuts and Coffee originates in Los Angeles but now calls Chi-town its home. Please believe me when I say you will not find another donut that will compare. Just in case you need another dose of convincing, they also serve gelato. I can't forget The Violet Hour. The Violet Hour is styled as pre–prohibition era bar. At first glance it looks like a boarded-up, abandoned building, but once inside you are introduced to some of the most creative spirits you’ve ever tasted.

3. The public transportation gets five stars

Chicago

I'm a Brooklyn girl, born and raised, so I know a thing or two about public transportation. Trust me when I tell you, Chicago is one of the cleanest mass transit systems I’ve ever seen. Granted, I was only there for four days, but a lot can happen in four days. I see you CTA, looking all sexy in the transit world.

5 Trick-or-treating tips for kids with food allergies

$

If your child has nut or other serious food allergies or sensitivities like I do, you probably know how disappointing it can be for them to feel left out of Halloween traditions, like collecting candy and eating all of the treats that other kids get to indulge in each holiday season. The good news is that you can do a few things to make it easier for your child to enjoy themselves and feel included.

This Halloween, try these 5 tips for a safe, fun and allergen-free trick-or-treating experience:

1. Host an allergen-free trick-or-treat event

While trick-or-treating can be challenging with food allergies, it’s still a super-fun event that every child should experience. Food allergies and sensitivities are, unfortunately, becoming increasingly more common, so your child probably has many classmates and neighborhood buddies who are also dealing with this difficulty. Why not organize a special trick-or-treat with pre-approved treats and a map of neighborhood participants? Or a trick-or-treat candy potluck party where participants all bring their own assortment of allergen-free treats? At the very least, it can’t hurt to inform neighbors of your child’s allergies and hope they offer a few allergen-free candy options.

2. Trade candy instead of banning allergens

A week before Halloween, let your child pick out a few movie-theatre sized boxes of their favorite candies. This way, your child knows that for every candy they receive on Halloween that they can’t have, there is an even better substitute waiting for them at home. Let your child pick a few friends that they will give their extra candies to as a present. Forcing them to give their siblings the forbidden candies can cause tension, but if your child wants to do this, let them distribute their candies to their brothers and sisters as a fun activity.

3. Make trick-or-treating about giving, not receiving

"Seemingly allergy-free candy can be manufactured in the same facilities as peanuts, wheat and other allergens, causing cross-contamination,” says allergist Richard Weber, MD, president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI). If your child’s allergies are so severe that they cannot even touch suspect candies, try including them in the process of trick-or-treating by having them distribute treats to neighbors instead.

This can be a great tradition and can help your child learn that giving can be just as fun as receiving. Spend time baking cookies with your child, or helping them pick out a treat at the store, and then give them out to your favorite neighbors.

4. Gamify detecting allergens

Sorting out the candies your child can and cannot eat can seem like an accidental punishment, especially if they are young. While you could take your child’s candy and do this for them, it can be a great learning experience for them to identify the candies they cannot eat and teach them what they should avoid in the future. Make a game out of sorting the candy into groups, and award prizes if they identify a certain number of candies they can’t eat. You could even let your child guess how many candies will be in the “allergic” pile at the end of the night, and award them for guessing correctly.

5. Try offering toys instead of candy

For some kids, candy just isn’t a feasible option. Maybe you’re afraid of cross-contamination, don’t allow processed sugars or simply want a healthier option. “Spread treats out on the kitchen table and swap out dangerous treats for ones they can enjoy or offer non-food items like inexpensive toys,” says Alexia Chianis, a parenting expert with SafeWise.com.

You can try trading half their candy for a toy to cut down on sweets, or to allow them a fun option for trading in the candies they are allergic to without feeling like they are losing anything. You might find that even children who don’t have allergies will be a fan of this arrangement!

While trick-or-treating can be harder for kids with food allergies and sensitivities, there are plenty of creative things you can do as a parent to make sure your child not only stays safe, but also has a fun Halloween. Whether you decide to host your own special event, or adapt the tradition to meet your child’s unique needs, these five tips will make it easier to take the food-allergy-fright out of even the spookiest Hallows Eve.

Besides having famously romanced Ashlee Simpson, Cabrera dated Hills star Audrina Patridge. To make the six degrees of separation seem even closer, I should note that Jenner and Patridge hooked up while on the reality TV show, too.

How to tastefully incorporate gold decor into your home

According to interior designer Stephanie Gamble, most people "haven't caught on that the gold is back."

"I love all the golds... the brass, bronze, cooper and rose golds," Gamble says. "For so long it was the silver, but gold has an everlasting elegance that is warm and sophisticated and, of course, sparkly."

Rose gold in particular is a "very warm" tone that can be introduced to most homes without looking over the top, she adds, and it can be paired with a pastel palette for a modern, soft effect.

For ideas on how you can tastefully incorporate gold tones into your home, I've compiled some inspiration:

8 Things Kate Hudson and Nick Jonas have in common

$

0

Of course, part of the novelty lies in the fact that Hudson is 36 to Jonas' tender 23. But, with a little digging, it's evident this odd couple isn't nearly as mismatched as it may seem. Sure, it's a bit strange to think of the two together at first — after all, he was only 8 when Hudson was charming us all as rock groupie, er, "Band-Aid" Penny Lane in Almost Famous.

More: Nick Jonas and Kate Hudson's romance rumors take an unexpected turn

Age is but a number, though, and there are many things that can transcend time. Might he be an old soul, we wondered? She certainly seems young at heart. So, in an effort to better understand what could be drawing these two together, we did some sleuthing and uncovered some intriguing commonalities.

1. They don't kiss and tell.

Kate Hudson
Image: Giphy

Despite being grilled in the press, neither Hudson nor Jonas has confirmed or denied a relationship. Jonas' landlord, Ellen DeGeneres, playfully prodded him about the pairing on her show this week, saying, "You don't seem to be alone. There's someone who ends up being in the same city as you all the time coincidentally." To which Jonas smoothly quipped, "I'm not alone. I'll always have you." For her part, Hudson remained mum on Watch What Happens Live. When pressed, she coyly told host Andy Cohen, "I don't like addressing any kind of gossip."

2. One word: Oliver.

Oliver Hudson
Image: Giphy

Sometimes it just takes one mutual connection to bring two people together, and for Hudson and Jonas, that connection might just be Hudson's brother, Oliver. The 39-year-old actor is Jonas' costar on the hit Fox series Scream Queens — Oliver plays Wes Gardner, while Jonas plays Boone Clemens. Since rumors have been swirling that Hudson and Jonas have been hooking up since August, just before the show premiered, it's possible Oliver introduced the two.

3. They both recently got out of long-term relationships.

Nick Jonas
Image: Giphy

Sometimes you just need to shake things up when you're on the rebound, and that certainly seems to be the case with Hudson and Jonas. In December 2014, Hudson announced her split from Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy, whom she'd been seeing since 2010. Similarly, Jonas ended things with Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo in June of this year, following a seemingly charmed two-year courtship.

4. They both grew up in the industry.

Nick Jonas
Image: Giphy

While it's true that there is a sizable age gap between these rumored lovebirds, people who grow up in the entertainment industry tend to be old souls from having to exert independence and self-sufficiency at an early age. Such could be said of Hudson and Jonas, both of whom began performing before they ever hit double-digit birthdays.

5. They're major music buffs.

Kate Hudson
Image: Giphy

This one's pretty obvious, eh? Jonas got his big break for his musical talent as part of the Jonas Brothers trio, and Hudson's biological father, Bill Hudson, was part of the rock group The Hudson Brothers with — another parallel — his two brothers (and Kate Hudson's uncles) Brett and Mark. Above and beyond that, though, Hudson and Jonas are both musically inclined. She can play guitar and piano, and he plays the piano, drums and guitar. Plus, Hudson clearly has a penchant for musical men, given that her first husband and her ex-fiance were both frontmen of rock bands.

6. They have similar life mantras.

Nick Jonas
Image: Giphy

Refreshingly, neither one of these down-to-earth stars takes success for granted. Said Hudson of her philosophy on success, "Only in failure do you reach success. You can only get to the good stuff when you've done the hard stuff." Jonas has summed up the same sentiment more succinctly, saying, "Live like you're at the bottom, even if you're at the top."

7. Must love dogs definitely applies.

Kate Hudson
Image: Giphy

We know for sure that Jonas got a dog for his 16th birthday that he named Elvis. He also reportedly had a dog named Coco, but sadly she died when JoBro was filming Camp Rock. Hudson reportedly has or had in recent history three dogs: Clara, a Pomeranian; Doctor, an English bulldog; and Bella, a Neapolitan mastiff.

8. They're both thrill-seekers.

Nick Jonas
Image: Giphy

Hudson has always been known as a bit of free spirit, and her adventures over the years certainly speak to that. She's been seen grabbing life by the proverbial horns everywhere from Aspen to the French Riviera. As for Jonas, well, he literally almost grabbed life by the horns — this daredevil ran with the bulls in Spain when he was only 15.

Dr. Arnold Klein died Thursday evening after a four-day hospitalization for abdominal pains. He also suffered from multiple sclerosis.

Klein began treating Michael in 1983 after the pop star suffered severe scalp burns while filming a Pepsi commercial, and later diagnosed him with vitiligo and lupus. He came under fire after Michael's death for introducing the singer to the drug propofol and injecting him with Demerol 51 times in three months.

More: Why people attacking Prince Jackson is not OK

Klein also introduced Michael to the woman who would later become his wife and bear his children, medical assistant Debbie Rowe. And that's where another rumor started: That Klein, not Michael, is the biological father of Paris and Prince Jackson, a rumor Klein himself helped perpetuate.

In addition to feeding the rumors during multiple interviews after Michael's death, Klein went so far as to post this photo comparison of his old driver's license photo and a photo of Prince with the caption, "Hmmmmm…"

Jim Bob, Michelle Duggar's Christian organization allegedly sued for sexual abuse

According to Recovering Grace, the Institute in Basic Life Principles, the Christian organization founded by Bill Gothard, is coming under legal fire again for accusations of negligence and sexual misconduct. Gothard is a very close friend of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, and the Duggars have been a part of the IBLP organization openly and for a long time.

Recovering Grace says its function is "helping people whose lives have been impacted by the teachings of Bill Gothard, the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP)," confirmed the lawsuit.

The website said, "the lawsuit (which we have reviewed in its entirety) was filed by five women who allege they experienced 'sexual abuse, sexual harassment and inappropriate/unauthorized touching' while participants, interns, or employees of IBLP."

More: Jessa Duggar plays ultrasound guessing game with excited fans (PHOTOS)

The lawsuit was reportedly filed in Illinois’ DuPage County Circuit Court this week, and the women are reportedly seeking $50,000 in damages. According to Radar Online, a hearing has been set for January 19, 2016.

Gothard, 80, resigned from the organization last year amid his own sexual harassment scandal. According to both Radar Online and Recovering Grace, Gothard was accused of sexually harassing 35 women and teens. IBLP is also, reportedly, the organization where Josh Duggar went as a teen for counseling and training after he was accused of molesting several of his sisters and other girls.

More: Jessa Duggar had some unorthodox guests at her baby shower (PHOTO)

According to Recovering Grace, the lawsuit alleges IBLP was, "negligent over the past several decades by failing to properly address alleged sexual abuse and harassment by IBLP employees and that IBLP failed to properly report known or suspected abuse to the proper authorities."

It seems these scandals are far from over.

Sexy book excerpt: When an impulsive singer is caught between two lovers

Read the excerpt from Just One Lie by Kyra Davis:

“What?” I whisper. “What are you thinking?”

“That I don’t believe in love at first sight,” he says.

“Seriously?” I snap. “That’s what you’re thinking?”

“Yeah, but... I believe that sometimes you can meet someone and almost instantly realize that this is a person you could fall in love with. That’s possible, right?” When I don’t answer he takes a long, shaky breath. “I guess what I’m saying is, let’s get to know each other because... because I want to be one of those people you care about. I’d like to give you the opportunity to hurt me.”

I laugh again, although this time the sound isn’t coated in derisive sarcasm.

“Seriously!” he insists. “I have this feeling you’re worth the pain.”

“Well then, you’d be the first person to think so.”

“Aw, I’m your first,” he says with a suggestive grin.

I groan and rest my head on my knees.

“What about me?” he asks, nudging me with his elbow. “Am I worth it?”

“I’m here, aren’t I?” I scrape my nails against the back of my hand, leaving a mark. It hurts, but maybe not enough. The vodka is protecting me from the sting.

“That’s a yes.”

“Maybe,” I counter. “Or maybe I’m just a crazy masochist.” This time it’s the skin on the inside of my wrist that I scratch. He doesn’t see the marks. He just thinks I’m making a gesture, that it’s a joke.

“You don’t strike me as the masochist type.” His teeth are so white they glow in the darkness. I imagine them biting gently on my earlobe, on my neck... “And you’re not even close to being as crazy as me.”

I give him a withering look. “You realize that Crazy was literally my nickname in middle school. Seriously, that’s what they called me. Not Crazy Melody, just Crazy. As in Crazy got detention again, or Crazy painted a skull and crossbones on her big toenails.”

Ash does a quick double take. “Did you really paint a skull and crossbones on your nails? With nail polish?” When I nod, his eyes flash with approval. “That takes serious fine motor skills. You could be one of those Chinese artists who can paint intricate pictures of landscapes on hollowed-out eggshells.”

“Okay, so I have no idea what you’re talking about right now.”

Ash laughs and tilts his head up to the stars. “That’s ’cause I’m crazier than you. It’ll take more than a middle school nickname to best me. Hell, my stepmom considered institutionalizing me when I was fourteen.”

“Oh yeah, that’s impressive. My dad did institutionalize me at sixteen. And then when the doctors refused to keep me in the nuthouse for more than a couple of days, he kicked me out of the house because he was afraid my craziness would rub off on my little sister.”

“Ah, but the doctors kicked you out because you didn’t need to be hospitalized in the first place, right?” He rests his forearms on his knees, his drink still clasped in his hand. “So your father locking you up doesn’t make you crazy, it just makes him a douche.”

I scrunch up my face into a goofy, sardonic expression and tap my finger to my nose.

“Onstage you were a little wild,” he admits, “but not out of control. You haven’t given in to one crazy impulse all night.”

“I got on the back of your bike, didn’t I?”

“That was spontaneous, not impulsive. There’s a difference.” He fakes a yawn. “You’re so sane you’re almost boring.”

I scoff and glance back out at the ocean. “You want me to give in to my impulses?”

“Yes.” Ash’s lips curl into a sexy little smile. “I’d like to see that.”

I get up and the world wobbles under my feet. I’m restless and edgy. I can’t stay still. Standing before him, I slide out of my jacket and slowly pull off my shirt. “You have no idea how impulsive I can be.” My fingers fumble with the buttons of my jeans, but it doesn’t take long before they’re in a pile on the sand. Ash’s smile grows slowly. I see everything he wants to do to me in the glimmer in his eyes. I see the quiet twitch of his fingers as he plots their course. I take a deep breath and manage to hold myself still as he reaches out and runs his hand up my inner thigh. The warmth of his touch feels utterly incongruous with the cold of the night. “You sure you want me to get a little crazy, Ash?” I ask quietly.

“Yes,” he says, his voice hoarse, needing.

“Alright then, just remember” — I lean over and gently kiss his lips — “you asked for it.”

Hank Baskett walks out on Kendra Wilkinson: Is this the end?

Time to sync the Google calendars, guys

At first, life in the Wikinson household seems idyllic. Wilkinson is in the couple's swimming pool, paddling around with their kids, Little Hank and Alijah (both of whom are impossibly adorable). Baskett arrives home, and before he grabs some swim trunks, he and Wilkinson touch base about his upcoming business trip and the ladies' night she has planned.

But there's a hitch: Her ladies' night just so happens to fall on the same evening Baskett has to leave town for a big business meeting. This does not sit well with Wilkinson, who tells the camera, "Hank's timing of his business trip couldn't be worse. I'm about to burst. I need my girl time, and I need it now."

On the big night, Jessica Hall (the bestie we all covet) shows up to grab Wilkinson, at which point Baskett stresses to both women that he absolutely, positively, no-holds-barred cannot miss his 2:30 a.m. flight.

This is obviously very important.

However, it seems pretty clear when Wilkinson arrives at the hotel where she has booked a penthouse suite that the evening is going to get wild. Hall, Wilkinson and their friends Adrian and JoJo are all in dire need of some time out of the house and with each other.

When moms go wild

"Jessica, Adrian and I are moms, and all we think about are our kids," says Wilkinson. "Tonight is going to be a little different — we're going to think about us."

And, you know, I get it. As a mother of two small children like Wilkinson, I don't just like to have the occasional night out with my girlfriends, I need it. My husband knows that barring an emergency with the kids or a natural disaster, he should not call me during ladies' night. That's my special time.

But things start to get a bit dicey when a couple of extremely attractive and well-sculpted men enter the pool deck where the ladies are lounging.

Wilkinson and Adrian soon strike up a conversation with the guys, which leads to the ladies inviting "Black Superman" and his friend out on the town that night. Hall, because she is the sweetest thing ever, tries to remind Wilkinson about Baskett's flight out.

Wilkinson's having none of it, though. "Oh, you buzz kill. Shut up, you buzz kill," she tells Hall. So plans proceed, and Wilkinson is feeling high on life. "These guys are making me feel young again, and it's hot," she tells the camera.

Again, something I empathize with — to a degree. Once you have children and you hit 30, it can be hard not to let insecurities creep in. The empowered woman in you knows you're being silly, yet it's the kind of nagging feeling that doesn't respond to logic. Having said that, for me, just getting dressed up and going out with my girls does the trick. We invariably always get some attention from men, which we politely acknowledge... from afar.

Wilkinson can't help herself, though, and she ignores phone calls from Baskett in favor of conversations about fellatio with "Black Superman." This cannot end well.

The married woman's walk of shame

Around 2 a.m., Baskett finally caves and calls Hall's husband, Kyle, who immediately texts Hall that she and Wilkinson need to head home. When Wilkinson walks into the dimly lit living room, Baskett is sitting on the couch waiting — and he is pissed, y'all.

The next episode kicks off with Wilkinson making a halfhearted attempt at an apology to Baskett. Let's be real: She was totally making excuses for herself. I could see it, you could see it and Baskett could definitely see it. He tells her she has to decide whether she wants to be married to him or not, and he storms out the door to catch a red-eye to Seattle.

The next day, Baskett still isn't responding to Wilkinson's calls and texts, so Hall comes over to help Wilkinson sort through her feelings. "Do you want to be married still?" Hall asks, and Wilkinson lingers a little too long.

When Baskett hasn't reached out by the next day, Wilkinson's anxiety has piqued. She calls an emergency session with her therapist.

There, Wilkinson struggles with the same cycle of doubt. She loves Baskett, but he hurt her. Can she trust him? Will they ever not have drama? She isn't sure it's worth the fight. Her hall pass for bad behavior is officially over, the therapist points out, so Wilkinson is going to have to make a decision.

Taking a chance (and flight) for love

Soon, a call from Eric (aka Grand-dude) puts things into perspective. "You've got to make a decision to either pull your family back together, or go the other way," he tells Wilkinson, "and I think you'd be absolutely crazy to go the other way."

Aw, love him! Can he and Hall get spinoff shows, please and thank you?

So, under Eric's tutelage, Wilkinson hops a flight to Seattle to surprise her husband. Once there, she is flooded with happy memories of the day they got engaged ("the happiest day of my entire life") and their love pre-scandal.

Through this fog of nostalgia, Wilkinson gains clarity — she loves Baskett and wants to make this work. She opens the door of his office building and basically walks smack dab into a meeting. To which Baskett responds, "What the heck are you doing here?"

Oh, boy. I'm willing to bet that wasn't the reception she was aiming for. Here's hoping next week sees these two coming back together.

But it's not exactly like Jenner started the whole thing. Savvy Instagrammers have been posting photos of the trend for months now.

And for good reason. The tattoos come in a variety of styles — ranging from headband-like to larger image-like designs — and colors and are as simple to apply as a temporary tattoo on your skin.

You simply put the tattoo strip design-side down on your hair and blot with dampened cotton ball. Then, just remove the paper and admire your new hair.

Removing is as simple as washing your hair, so you can switch up the look several times a week.

They're pretty cheap, too. Scunci sells some for $5 at Ulta, but some companies on Instagram are offering customized hair tattoos. We're not sure if there are limitations on how customized these designs can be, but the potential is pretty exciting.

The only downside is that the designs seem to show up best on straight hair, so curly-haired gals have to break out the flat iron before trying the hair tattoo trend.

But it's worth it, judging from all the beautiful women (and men!) rocking the look.

Shark Tank makes history with most unethical, body-shaming product ever

Some of the products featured on Shark Tank are unethical, and others are downright stupid. Tonight's Skinny Mirror fell into both categories. Jasmine claimed that she wanted women to feel better about themselves, but her means of accomplishing this end are less than admirable.

The Skinny Mirror wouldn't be so bad if it were merely purchased for private use, but Jasmine's goal is to sell it to major retailers. When shoppers visit clothing stores and try apparel on in the dressing room, they do not expect to encounter distorted images. Few are likely to ever notice the tiny logo featured in the bottom corner of the mirror. And as Robert Herjavec pointed out, some retailers might not even leave the logo in place, simply allowing consumers to think that they are as slender as the mirror makes them look.

Jasmine claims that her goal is not to mislead anybody. She even refused to sell her mirror to a retailer who wanted to remove the logo from the product. However, the product arguably is misleading in and of itself. It is selling a false image to users every time they stare at their reflection. And while Jasmine desperately wants those who look in the mirror to improve their body image, the product is just as likely to be used the wrong way, perhaps by those spiraling into disordered eating.

Herjavec had little interest in debating whether the mirror was an ethical product, but Twitter users were certainly happy to carry on that particular discussion. Most agreed that the mirror had the potential to be used in a very harmful manner. Others claimed that it was one of the most unethical products ever featured on Shark Tank.

Fortunately, the Sharks eventually made the right choice. They decided that there was too much disconnect between how shoppers would feel while looking at themselves in the mirror at the store and how they would feel after returning home to their regular mirrors. Kudos to the Sharks for choosing honesty over financial gain.

Step it Up: Traci's tough love gets borderline abusive

Not satisfied with Jakirah's insufficiently pointed foot, Young-Byron tried her best to mold her into a better dancer... literally. But this lesson in foot pointing only hurt — and possibly humiliated — Jakirah.

In Young-Byron's defense, hands-on teaching is sometimes necessary in the world of dance. A teacher can only yell at his or her students so many times; eventually, a flexed foot may need to be physically manipulated so as to better show the dancer how his or her feet should look on stage and in the studio. Hands-on teaching is not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but Young-Byron may have gone too far when she forcibly tried to make Jakirah's foot point. Jakirah definitely did not enjoy this moment; she later admitted that it felt like Young-Byron was going to break her foot.

More: Traci Young-Byron dishes on her no-nonsense teaching style

This was just one of many concerning incidents that took place during the episode. Young-Byron chastised Jakirah at length in front of the entire class, making her repeat a few counts of the dance multiple times while being scolded repeatedly. The breaking point occurred when Young-Byron referred to Jakirah as "soft." This was one criticism too many, and Jakirah couldn't help but shed a few tears. Young-Byron was clearly not happy about the waterworks, but she thankfully did not repeat the line about saving it for the pillow that has caused so much exasperation among Lifetime viewers.

In prior episodes, Young-Byron showed a softer side of herself, thereby impressing fans who had perhaps gotten the wrong impression from her brief appearance on Bring It. Tonight, however, it was all about tough love. Most fans were willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but several others expressed sympathy for Jakirah. As these Twitter users pointed out, Jakirah had a bad day — it happens to the best of us.

Young-Byron really does have her dancers' best interests at heart, but sometimes she goes a bit overboard with her critiques and physical teaching style. There's nothing wrong with pushing Jakirah to be her best, but it's also important to know when to back down.

5 Unspoken rules no Amazing Race contestant should ever break

$

I’m just kidding. I actually have a confession – the Green Team is starting to grow on me. I know, it’s crazy but it’s true. Say what you will about Justin, but he knows the game. He’s made a couple of slips along the way, but he definitely is a game player and doesn’t make the kinds of mistakes that could cost him.

Unlike the rest of the teams tonight... It’s as though, in their race to gain traction, they completely forgot the basic, unspoken rules of Amazing Race. What are these rules? If you're a real super fan, you already know. There are plenty, but for tonight, let’s focus on the big five:

Always read the clue

This is a big one, and it seems simple enough that I shouldn’t have to mention it, but apparently I do. You get a clue, you read it — you read it again, and then you go do it and, hopefully, get finished in time. Why did the Track Stars miss this lesson? They managed to do this not once, but twice tonight. To make matters worse, it was the same clue. Always. Read. The. Clue.

Don't be indecisive. At all.

Should I do this challenge or you? No — you do it; I did it last time. Are you sure? The Paparazzi had a leg full of stupid mistakes, and indecision was a big one. When it came to the detour, they changed their minds three times on which detour to take. Teams — you make a decision and you stick with it. This is a race, not a trip to the grocery store where you choose one can of beans over the other.

Pay attention to the details

Every season this happens. Teams get so anxious when they’re behind that they blindly follow the car or team in front of them because they think it’s the right way to go. No, no, no. Stop, look around and you’ll see that nine times out of 10, the path is right in front of you. Three teams fell victim to this tonight.

Keep it together, man!

It’s a jungle out there, and it’s not as easy as it looks as when you’re watching from your sofa. But, when you’re racing for a million dollars, you don’t just stop and start having a mental breakdown. This rule has been broken more times this season than any other that I remember.

Don't argue with your partner. It's not productive.

I honestly think The Paparazzi's Logan wished she could have pushed Chris off that ledge during the gorge challenge. Shoot, I wish I could have pushed him. These two did a fabulous job of taking the heat off of the Green Team for most annoying team. I lost count of how many times they told each other “don’t talk to me.” You can argue at home or even during sleeping hours, but the middle of the race is not the time to do it.

What other mistakes did you see being made tonight? Are you slowly warming up to Justin and the Green Team like I am?
