And that tasty sauce gets even better when you make it yourself.

Salted caramel sauce recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup International Delight Caramel Macchiato Creamer
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium-high heat.
  2. When the sugar starts to melt, whisk it. When the sugar has fully melted and is not clumpy, stop whisking.
  3. Continue cooking the sugar until it reaches a deep amber color. Watch closely so it does not burn.
  4. Add the butter, and whisk until it has melted.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and slowly pour in the heavy cream and creamer. Whisk until incorporated and the caramel is smooth.
  6. Whisk in the salt.
  7. Let the sauce cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Pour the caramel into a jar, and let it cool to room temperature.

You can do a lot with a watermelon: make a fun keg, carve it into an edible grill or make healthy watermelon "pizzas" as a refreshing summer dessert.

But this trick is really just that — a trick — that will leave your guests' minds reeling at your end-of-summer barbecues.

The key is to use two watermelons: one for the "shell," and one to create the smooth watermelon inside. Put them together, and you have a fruit that's ready to jump out of its skin (literally) with excitement for your next party.

Avril Lavigne announces separation from Chad Kroeger with saddest photo

The singer announced that she and Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger are separating just two years after they wed in a lavish ceremony in the south of France, and the way she let fans know about the split is heartbreaking: she attached the statement to a wedding photo.

Seeing such sad news attached to such a happy image is a huge bummer.

The couple has only been married for two years, but those two years have been filled with health difficulties for both. Lavigne has been battling Lyme disease, the symptoms of which have been so hard on her that she said many days she was unable to get out of bed. Kroeger was forced to cancel the second leg of Nickelback's 2015 and the entire European tour for surgery to remove a cyst on his larynx.

As far as a concrete reason for the split, beyond the weight their health difficulties must have brought to the relationship, the couple has so far remained mum — but since they don't have any children, it is safe to assume that it has nothing to do with a nanny. We're looking at you, Ben Affleck. You too, Gavin Rossdale, aka alleged nanny-schtupper. Of course, that doesn't mean one of them wasn't getting frisky with someone else's nanny...

This was Kroeger's first marriage and Lavigne's second. Her first, to Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley, ended in 2009. In an oddly-timed coincidence, Whibley wed model Ariana Cooper on Aug. 30, 2015, just days before his ex announced her second marriage was ending.

Terrible Teens: The alcohol talk makes a difference if you do it right

$
0
0

In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 35 percent of high school students polled drank some sort of alcohol in the past 30 days and 21 percent binge drank.

I'll admit that I did some pretty stupid stuff when it came to teen drinking, but I learned from my mistakes. Now that I have three teens, I'm hoping that I can make sure they will always be responsible around alcohol. And while I am fully aware teenage drinking is illegal, I know that a ton of teens do it.

More: I'll let my teen drink at home once in a while

With two high school upperclassmen, teenage drinking has reared its inevitable head in our home.

I've always been the parent who has said, "When the time comes, I will be aware when my kids experiment with alcohol." And if they wanted to test the waters (i.e., the beer, or the wine), they were going to test it in the confines (and safety) of my home, with me being present.

I stand firm that I do not want my kids going away to college without having the knowledge of how to drink responsibly. Because I believe if you send your child to college and he or she does not know how his or her body will tolerate and/or react to alcohol, it is a recipe for absolute disaster.

More: Should we allow teens to drink under adult supervision?

I am not kidding on that last statement. You send your child off to college without knowing how to drink responsibly and I guarantee bad things will happen.

My oldest had his first taste of beer last summer at a family reunion. He will occasionally have a beer or two at home under our watchful eye or on family vacations.

And now, the high school parties have started. My oldest is going out with friends — he's a senior, he's having fun. In fact, he went to a party the other night. He and I talked about him having a couple of beers at the party and we discussed who the designated driver would be. We also discussed that under no circumstances was he to get into the car if the driver even had one beer. I told him I would come get him from the party no matter what time it was. It would never, ever be a problem for me. Ever.

More: Is your teen drinking?

There are too many risks in life for me not to pick him up if he needed me to get him, and he knows that. He also knows what his limits are, he respects both his father and me and knows not to get out of control.

I'm not going to lie. I was worried when he was at the party and I didn't go to sleep at all, but he texted me and told me when he was leaving and updated me on his way home. Per our house rules, he came into my room to kiss me goodnight when he got home. He was not drunk or stupid and once he got home, I could finally let go of all my anxiety about the evening and relax.

This is all new territory for me. It's kind of like how when you have your newborn baby and you peek into his room at night every hour to check to make sure his tiny chest is rising and falling.

Except scarier.

This is life. This is raising kids. It's the only way I know how to do it. And I hope I'm doing it right.

7 Reasons I got a purebred dog and you should too

$

As a psychologist, I am keenly aware of the human benefits that having a dog provides — regardless of how it got there. Dogs lower heart rate and lower anxiety levels; they ease social isolation by getting you out of the house and back into the world, and many can even sniff out cancer and other diseases early. Based on that, any dog would be great, but over the years I have come to favor the purebred dog. Here are seven reasons why getting a purebred dog was right for me and could be right for you.

1. Purebred dogs have predictable temperaments, which can save you a bundle in training fees

I had a mutt named Barkley that I loved dearly. But Barkley seemed to have been a mix of two dogs that hated each other and a third that regularly feasted on pillows. He would bark all day (hence the name) and chew stuff at night while I slept. I would take him for two- to three-hour long walks a day as suggested by one trainer who told me “a tired dog is a good dog,” yet Barkley defied that in spades. Another trainer insisted that I wasn’t “in charge,” still another said “get a crate” and then a fourth trainer told me it was his diet. I spent so much money on Barkley’s behavior therapy that I had none left to replace the shoes he had eaten. Eventually, Barkley went to live with my aunt and cousins in a rural area where they didn’t care if he barked or chewed.

My next dog was a yellow lab from a breeder, and it made all the difference. I got to meet my dog’s parents, and I spent time with other dogs at my breeder’s home before deciding on Mr. Dog. Four visits later, I felt confident that her labs and their sweet temperament were for me. She chose a pup that was easy to train even by myself. He also didn’t have a taste for shoes or pillows. He was perfect!

2. Purebred dogs come with a guarantee

When a breeder meets with a prospective family who are interested in buying one of his or her puppies, the breeder will tell you (and some put in writing) that if at any time in your dog’s life you can’t care for it, the dog must go back to the breeder. There is a great deal of comfort in knowing this since life is so unpredictable. Any number of things can force a person to have to give up their dog: job loss, sickness, relocation or marriage, to name a few.

My girlfriend had a sweet little Boston terrier. He was three years old when she got pregnant with her daughter. It didn’t take long for the doctor to figure out that some of the little girl’s health issues were caused by her intense allergies to the dog. It was the saddest day of my friend’s life when she had to give the dog back to the breeder, but she was comforted in knowing that the dog would be with people who loved and cared for her in the same way my friend had.

3. You can predict the health of purebred dogs

If you ask David Frei, host of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show since 1990, he will tell you that the ability to predict a dog’s health is of the utmost importance. Health predictability gives you a wealth of information so that you know how to care for your dog and what you can expect as it ages.

Breeders carefully select the best health qualities in the dogs that they breed. That means — just like natural selection in any animal kingdom — they can also get rid of the worst health qualities. Every puppy born to a breeder has parents that have gone through a series of genetic tests to ensure that the dog you get has the best possible chance of being healthy. Breeders can also tell you which foods and what kind of exercise and lifestyle is the best for your breed, adding to the longevity of your dog.

Frei says, "Envision the dog as an adult. A healthy dog can live for 12-15 years or more, so be sure to study the breed’s history. All breeds were developed to perform a specific function. If you know that purpose and the history of the breed, then you will have an idea about the dog’s personality and conditioning needs, and that helps you be best prepared for a successful relationship."

4. You become part of the breeder’s extended family

When looking for a puppy, you work with a breeder who loves the puppies like they're his or her own children and as such is happy to answer all of your questions, no matter how dumb or what time of day. When I first got my Spinone, I spoke to my breeder more than I spoke to my own mother. I wanted his new home to be perfect for him, so I called her with all of my stupid “is this OK?” questions, and she answered them happily. She was patient and gave me great advice.

She also wanted her dog to be happy, so even though I may have been overzealous, she understood that everything I was doing was in service of him. Six years later I still call her with questions, and she has yet to make me feel dumb for asking them. She refers to herself as his “grandma” and is happy to look at the flood of photos I send her regularly. She enjoys seeing our growing boy and all of his antics.

5. There are drugs that can be deadly to your dog that you would otherwise have no way of knowing

Dog expert Susan Paulis and her family have both owned and showed purebred dogs since 1970. She says, “When you buy from a responsible hobby breeder, you are not just buying a quality puppy, but you are gaining an invaluable resource of information about your breed and your puppy.” In other words, a breeder can help you expect the unexpected.

When Susan got her champion labrador, she knew that if her dog ever went to the vet, even for a teeth cleaning, there was a particular sedative that could be deadly to her pup. She knew this because a dog in its line had died from an allergic reaction to this particular sedative. Paulis tells me, “Ever since then, his breeder has sent dogs home with instructions never to use that drug.”

6. I know my dog got great care from the day he was born

Like babies, puppies need the best care right from the very moment they take their first breath. Proper care and weaning is standardized among reputable breeders, insuring that your pup will develop into a happy and healthy dog. The downside to getting a dog that didn’t come from a breeder is that you don’t know what happened to the pup before it arrived at your doorstep. Was it given the proper nutrition? Was it abused? Was it weaned too early? There is simply no way of knowing, and these earliest moments can affect a dog for life.

7. There is nothing more fun than to watch your purebred dog do what it was bred to do

Every dog breed has a purpose. Have you ever watched the Portuguese water dogs retrieve baseballs for the MLB team the San Francisco Giants? It’s fascinating. Every purebred dog has natural instincts, which are truly something to marvel at during its playtime. My cousin has an Old English sheepdog that keeps an eye on her four young children by herding them into one area of the backyard. I find that intriguing since she never trained her dog to do so, he just does it. She recognized his natural instinct to herd and allowed him to do his job.

My own breed, the Italian spinone, is known for its acute sensitivity, so my guy is a therapy animal. He instinctively will put his head on the lap of the sickest children at the hospital, and he is incredibly patient with them. He will also run over to a person who has just sneezed to see if he can help. I didn’t teach him any of that; it’s part of his lineage, and it is hard-wired within him. A lineage that is quite robust since his breed can be traced back to 500 BC.

Cooper Lawrence and her dog, Marconi

If you are considering getting a purebred dog and you would like to learn more about a particular breed, your best bet would be to find the parent club of the breed you are considering. Every breed has a parent club with people who are not only knowledgeable about their breed, but they are passionate. Start there. Ask loads of questions! Breeders want to place their pups in the best home, with people who they know share their same passion.

Frei had some final words of advice: "My standard counsel to anyone who is looking for a dog: Take your time, do your homework and find a dog that matches your lifestyle. Look at yourself before you look at a dog." To learn more about dog breeds to see which one would be right for you, start at the AKC website.

Rosie O'Donnell allegedly has a new, unexpected girlfriend

But that isn’t stopping her from continuing to look for love.

It has only been nine short months since O’Donnell called it quits on her second marriage since coming out in the early 2000s, but sources close to the star are revealing that she has a new girlfriend. Allegedly, her new love interest is none other than Oscar winner Tatum O’Neal.

What's even more surprising about this new couple is that it was just a few months ago that O’Neal even revealed that she was interested in dating women.

More: Rosie O'Donnell's daughter drama takes a sad turn

Formerly, O’Neal had been married to tennis champion John McEnroe for eight years, but during an interview back in May with People magazine, O’Neal said she was "mostly dating women now," saying they are "the most amazing creatures on earth. They’re so gentle and also more intelligent than the men that I've met recently."

Later, O'Neal revealed her expectations for dating women, saying, "I'm not going to date so many 30-year-olds because there’s not enough life experience. I’m not just interested in sex, you know. There needs to be a little bit more to the relationship."

O’Neal, who has three grown children from her previous marriage, is said to have visited O’Donnell’s New York home, and the pair was spotted taking in a Broadway show, Hamilton, together. A source close to them told the Daily Mail, "Tatum has spent some time at Rosie’s compound over the past month. She went back to LA, but will fly East again in the next few days."

More: Rosie O'Donnell's fight with The View producers was so bad, someone got fired

O’Neal's first relationship with a woman came, she says, after she gave a cocktail waitress her number at a party. She said she went on a few dates with her but "it was too soon for me."

During an interview with Harper's Bazaar, she explained she hasn't dated a man in years. "In a physical sense, I'm not attracted to men right now at all. It's a whole new world for me. It’s exhilarating!"

O’Neal was the youngest person to ever win an Oscar when she took home the hardware for Best Supporting Actress for her part in Paper Moon in 1974, when she was just 10 years old.

The Daily Mail source also says the couple has been together for almost two months.

Fans call Taylor Swift's new video racist — are they right?

In the video, which premiered on Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, Swift portrays an Old Hollywood actress who has a steamy affair with her costar, played by Scott Eastwood, while on location in 1950s Africa.

The problem? 1950s Africa was not a particularly great place to be if you happened to be black — and now Swift's video is being called racist for glamorizing colonialism.

But others defended Swift's artistic choice, saying that the video does not depict colonialism at all, but quite obviously a simple movie set in a beautiful, remote location.

The video's director, Joseph Kahn, denies the piece has anything at all to do with colonialism and says the setting was chosen to represent a complete departure from their regular lives.

"'Wildest Dreams' is a song about a relationship that was doomed, and the music video concept was that they were having a love affair on location away from their normal lives. This is not a video about colonialism but a love story on the set of a period film crew in Africa, 1950," Kahn said in a statement.

"There are black Africans in the video in a number of shots, but I rarely cut to crew faces outside of the director as the vast majority of screentime is Taylor and Scott. The video is based on classic Hollywood romances like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, as well as classic movies like The African Queen, Out of Africa and The English Patient, to name a few.

"The reality is not only were there people of color in the video, but the key creatives who worked on this video are people of color. I am Asian American, the producer Jil Hardin is an African American woman, and the editor Chancler Haynes is an African American man," Kahn explained. "We cast and edited this video. We collectively decided it would have been historically inaccurate to load the crew with more black actors as the video would have been accused of rewriting history. This video is set in the past by a crew set in the present and we are all proud of our work.

"There is no political agenda in the video. Our only goal was to tell a tragic love story in classic Hollywood iconography. Furthermore, this video has been singled out, yet there have been many music videos depicting Africa," Kahn continued. "These videos have traditionally not been lessons in African history. Let's not forget, Taylor has chosen to donate all of her proceeds from this video to the African Parks Foundation to preserve the endangered animals of the continent and support the economies of local African people."

More: Ireland smashes survey of World's Friendliest Cities

Besides the warm reception you can expect from locals, there are also seven other reasons why Sydney is the place to visit this year.

1. Visit Sydney's Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most interesting structures situated on the harbour. But as amazing as the building is on the outside, the inside is equally as appealing, and is home to exhibitions, theatres, a cinema and a concert hall, offering visitors a variety of different events and shows all year round.

2. Explore tourist favourites

When you visit Sydney there are no shortages of tourist attractions: marvel at St Mary's Cathedral, take a selfie on the impressive The Sydney Harbour Bridge, and pay a visit to the State Theatre.

3. Visit the beaches

Want a summer of sun and fun? Sydney is home to two of the most incredible beaches: the famous Bondi Beach — which happens to be one of the most visited tourist sites in Australia — and Shelly beach located in the suburb of Manly.

4. See the world's biggest screen

If you're a movie lover, then you're in luck. The IMAX Theatre at Darling Harbour boasts the title of the "world's biggest screen."

5. Relax outdoors

In Sydney there are plenty of places where you can relax outdoors and enjoy the sunshine, and Hyde Park is definitely one of the most attractive. Named after the original Hyde Park in London, England, these grassy lawns span over 16 hectares and are filled with flowers, fountains and monuments — the perfect place to stop off and have a romantic picnic.

6. Feed your creativity

According to City of Sydney (a page run by the local government authority), every year they put $36.5 million into Sydney's cultural life. There are fantastic public events that happen annually and this year's events included the Sydney Festival, and the upcoming Art & About Sydney and Sydney New Years' Eve.

7. Spend some time in nature

While there are plenty of places to shop, restaurants to eat at, and fantastic activities in Sydney, it's also a place where you can just become one with nature. Some of the most beautiful places include: the heritage-listed Royal National Park, and Middle Head lookout point (expect fantastic panoramic views).

The warning sign of a violent guy that you could be missing

$
0

According to a new study, men who've paid for sex tend to have less respect and empathy for women in the field of prostitution than men who don't. And while you might think that has nothing to do with you if you're not a prostitute, this lack of empathy can translate into a violent temperament towards all women.

MoreWhy I think it's OK if my guy goes to the strip club

The study was just published by Dr. Neil Malamuth of UCLA in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence. It looked at 101 men who had paid for sex at one time or another, and 101 men who have never paid for sex, but are prone to being "sexually coercive." The researchers found that both groups shared similar traits and inclinations, most notably that they feel less emotionally connected to women. It makes sense when you think about it — men who treat sex and the women who offer it as a commodity are less likely to view all women as people rather than things.

Dr. Malamuth spoke to EurekAlert on the psychological reasoning behind these findings. "Both groups tend to have a preference for impersonal sex, a fear of rejection by women, a history of having committed sexually aggressive acts and a hostile masculine self-identification. Those who buy sex, on average, have less empathy for women in prostitution and view them as intrinsically different from other women." While they may view them as different, the fact that they see another human being as less than them at all does not bode well for them as psychologically well-adjusted partners.

More5 Things to know about the history of sex workers

Melissa Farley, the study's lead author, believes this research will end the debate once and for all over whether or not prostitution is sexual abuse. "We hope this research will lead to a rejection of the myth that sex buyers are simply sexually frustrated nice guys," she told EurekAlert. While this may help fight those trying to legalize and regulate prostitution, it still leaves these sexual predators out there to pray on women.

Dr. Malamuth has been studying sexual aggression in men for 35 years, and continues to find the same risk factors in men who pay for sex. For the most part, they tend to exhibit a "hostile masculinity," which can be characterized as someone who views sex more as a sport rather than an intimate event. Scarily enough, this same trait is often found in psychopaths, who also tend to lack empathy, but for all people rather than just women.

MoreWomen pose in life-size toy box for sex trafficking awareness

This lack of empathy and fear of being rejected can turn into a downright hatred of women. We saw a horrible result of this last year when Elliot Rodger shot and killed six people in the infamous Santa Barbara shootings. All it takes is just one person with a lot of anger, very little respect for life, and a gun to do a devastating amount of damage.

If you feel like the man you're seeing doesn't treat you or other women as an equal, or displays any kind of aggressive behavior, you may want to seriously reconsider moving forward in that relationship.

It is widely known that Palin monitors her accounts herself and often responds when she sees fit. Maybe the reason we don't see the nastiness is that she has gotten really good at blocking and censoring people — or maybe people have truly begun to embrace the 24-year-old.

If that is the case and things continue to stay positive and troll-free, maybe we will see more frequent baby bump posts as she marches ever closer to her due date.

I do have to agree with her fans, though, she looks really good — and nothing like a tank!

Now, they've made a video that shows the best in lingerie since 1915, ranging from demure, cover-up cotton to flirty camisoles, tiny shorts, panties, knee-high stockings with garter belts... and a bit of everything in between, compressed into three short minutes.

Spoiler alert: Women like to look beautiful in their bedroom gear.

100 Years of Lingerie

100 Years of Lingerie

We all know that, and the outfits throughout the years show that while the looks might get a little more daring, we're not all that different now than the sexy ladies of the '20s, '30s and '40s. Lingerie allows us to show off a side that the rest of the world doesn't get to see. This, in turn, makes these intimate combos one of the most honest forms of fashion. Sure, we might all be forced to wear business suits to work, but what is worn underneath that is completely up to us, and that's empowering.

More: Charging more for bigger bras is just plain wrong

As for which is sexiest? That goes to 2015. The current style is better than anything before it because it's all about embracing individuality. Before, men might've had more of a say in what their ladies wore underneath their clothes. Now, anything goes — and it's all sexy in its own way. Want to wear a simple cotton bra and briefs? Sexy. Peek-a-boo satin jumpsuit. Sexy. Show off your natural curves? Sexy. The video does a fabulous job of showing that women of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds are at their most beautiful when they're embracing their preferences. That, in turn, shows confidence.

And that confidence is sexier than any bra and panty set could ever be.

7 Ways to wear white after Labor Day

1. Pair white with leather

There's nothing that screams fall more than leather. So why not do as Kim Kardashian did and rock a white turtleneck tank (also very autumn-appropriate) with a pair of black leather pants? This outfit is perfect for late September or early October, when the weather's just starting to cool off and you don't quite need a jacket.

2. Sport some faux fur

Olivia Palermo fur vest

There's no denying the fact that white is one of Olivia Palermo's favorite colors. The socialite and style icon wears it very well here, tossing a brown fur vest over the top of her wintery white suit. Not a fan of pantsuits? Try a white faux fur vest styled with a plain black long-sleeve top (a la Palermo), a pair of skinny jeans and some pointy-toe heels or suede boots.

3. Slip into white skinnies

Eva Longoria white skinny jeans

No need to tuck your white skinny jeans away for the winter. Instead, break them out on a cold day, and style them with a snuggly sweater like Eva Longoria's. To look a little less summery, opt for a sweater in a dark, jewel-toned color (think purple or navy).

4. Wear white accessories

Kylie Minogue white accessories

We love how Kylie Minogue accessorized her light brown leather jacket and casual skinnies with a simple white scarf and matching white handbag. It's a fresh, fun take on an otherwise typical fall look. Plus, it brightens up her entire ensemble in a novel way, which we heart.

5. Pick heavier fabrics

Jessica Alba head-to-toe white

Despite its undeniable association with summer, white when worn in heavier fabrics, such as wool, is an extremely winter-friendly hue. Take Jessica Alba for instance. She's sporting a gorgeous, oversized white coat with white dress pants and a coordinating white top. Forget the flimsy silk shirts and cotton tees. This outfit isn't just warm — it's comfy and totally suitable for the season.

6. Rock a white graphic sweater

In case you haven't noticed, graphic sweaters are seriously in for fall! Don't go with a cute knit in an expected color though — choose something that's light and fun and out of the box. We're digging Lauren Conrad's casual “Ho! Ho! Ho!” sweater. Dress it up with heels or keep it chill with flats.

7. Try off-white

Still a little bit wary of donning full-on white? Experiment with creams and other off-white shades to give you the same effect but not as bright. Kate Middleton looks stunning in this coat, right?

"I'm in this space right now where I'm super pumped on life right now. I feel connected. I feel great. And then she walks in my life. You don't understand what positive energy she is," Hough told People about his teen partner.

"I'm trying to figure out what it is," he continued. "I just got off a vacation on a lake, and I was thinking maybe it's because she's connected to nature and the animals or something. And if you're that connected, you feel whole I guess. I don't know what it is. I love her. She's amazing. She's a breath of fresh air. We all need a little Bindi in our life. Seriously."

Hough better be careful, because such sweet words from such a gorgeous man could cause a 17-year-old girl (or a 40-year-old woman, ahem) to have certain, uh, feelings. And despite Hough's reputation as a ladies' man, the age of consent in California is 18.

But seriously, how cute is she?

How to safely deal with internet trolls and cyberbullies

More: Female surgeon brilliantly tackles discrimination in the workplace

According to a 2014 study by Pew Research Center, "Forty percent of adult internet users have personally experienced some variety of online harassment."

What constitutes harassment?

Online harassment is when our digital space is invaded by threatening, unwanted messages, defamation and offensive language. According to Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria, it also includes tracking your internet use and checking your email, or when your private information, photographs, videos and data is shared or exposed.

So, how do you deal with the challenges of online harassment?

Report the abuse to authorities

According to The Australian Human Rights Commission, you need to report the abusive behaviour so that the authorities can get involved. You should also know how to block people from contacting you online, and report communications from your harasser to the website where the abuse is occurring.

Most widely used social networking sites thave a strict anti-bullying policy and a help centre to address abuse. You can find links for the appropriate pages below:

  • Twitter offers a step-by-step guide for dealing with harassment
  • Facebook has a helpful guide outlining it's policy
  • Instagram has a help centre with policy information
  • YouTube has a reporting and enforcement centre to help prevent privacy violations and abusive users
  • Google also has an anti-harassment policy
  • Pinterest offers users a guideline on online harassment and a cyberbullying policy

It's also important to always know the privacy settings for the social networking sites that you use, and set them up in a way that you are comfortable with.

What steps can you take to help prevent online harassment?

The Australian Human Rights Commission also has useful tips on how to prevent online harassment. Below are some important notes:

  • Do not share your private information with people you do not know, and be weary of sharing any visual content like pictures and videos.
  • Do not respond to messages when you are upset (in fact, it's best not to respond at all) this can just elevate the situation and encourage the harasser. Instead, report the abuse to either your local police department or the site where the abuse has occurred.
  • Log out of your social network and stop messaging if you feel you are being harassed.
  • Save evidence of all the hurtful or threatening messages that are being sent to you — this way you can build a case against the abuser.

Remember that any behaviour that makes you feel scared, hurt, or embarrassed is never OK.

Become informed

According to Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN), "Under the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) it is an offence to use the internet, social media or a telephone to menace, harass or cause offence."

The Australian Government's Office of Children's eSafety Commissioner provides some useful information for children who experience cyberbullying, including how they can report it.

If you are being harassed, please consult your local police website or station for more information.

Kim Richards' latest decision could mean jail time

More: Kim Richards goes missing & her ex promises to reveal major secrets (PHOTO)

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star skipped her Monday court appearance, according to People, and rejected the plea deal she had been offered.

"She didn't attend because she had some sort of injury to her foot, and therefore couldn't appear," Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, told the site. "The judge accepted the explanation and allowed her attorney to appear on her behalf."

And Santiago confirmed rumors that Richards had chosen not to accept a plea deal she had been offered.

"There were conversations about a negotiated settlement being offered by our office, but the offer was rejected by the defense," he said.

The deal included 36 months probation, 30 days community labor and 52 Alcoholics Anonymous classes in exchange for a guilty plea. Santiago said Richards' attorney turned down the deal on her behalf because "they wanted community service instead of community labor."

So what does this mean for Richards' case? She'll now proceed to her pre-trial court date on Sept. 14. If the case goes to court and Richards is found guilty, she's likely to serve jail time for the public intoxication charge that resulted from her April arrest.

Richards is also still working through legal issues surrounding her more recent arrest; on Aug. 2, she was arrested for allegedly shoplifting nearly $600 worth of merchandise from a Los Angeles area Target store.

Richards has admitted to struggling with alcoholism and was in and out of rehab last spring. Recent reports say she won't be returning to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in its upcoming season and that she's closed herself off from her family — a source told People that "no one understands what she's doing" and that "her family is so concerned. And they're fed up. She's cut herself off from friends and family who care about her."

8 Instagram clues Carly Waddell and Kirk DeWindt are still together

Well, at least the source claims Kirk and Carly are over. But we're not buying it.

Since the couple connected in the very first episode of this season's Bachelor spinoff, they've been charming the pants off of fans and, presumably, each other (badum-tish!). "I feel like I came in here knowing that I wanted to find my husband, and I can't believe I found him day one," Waddell said. "I just consider myself the luckiest freaking person on this planet."

Here's hoping that luck isn't about to run out, though. According to Us Weekly's insider, Waddell — whose hilarious zingers made her a fan favorite during Chris Soules' season — gets completely blindsided on the finale when DeWindt calls it quits. Reportedly, a pal of the cute pair insists the breakup was "so dramatic and real" and that Waddell "ran away mid-conversation in tears."

Maybe it's because we genuinely felt Waddell and DeWindt's connection, despite having only dated for five weeks, or maybe it's because — damn it — we're still pulling for Waddell FTW since Soules sent her packing. Either way, we're convinced she and DeWindt are actually still together and we've got the Instagram clues to prove it.

1. Sharing cryptically (yet also hopelessly) romantic messages

Carly and Kirk: IG 1

Carly and Kirk: IG 1

Just yesterday, Waddell regrammed this sentimental "carpe <del>the man</del> diem"-style sentiment, saying it was "speaking to my soul today." Mm-hmm. We bet!

Carly and Kirk: IG 3

Carly and Kirk: IG 3

And last week, she posted this quote that basically says if you love something set it free — if it returns to you, it's meant to be. Perhaps there is a moment of drama during the finale when host Chris Harrison tries to deliver a get-engaged-or-break-up ultimatum to the couple. But, obviously, all's well that ends well.

2. Catching more than just fish

Carly and Kirk: IG 4

Carly and Kirk: IG 4

A week ago, Waddell regrammed a scene from her and Kirk's adorable fishing date, sweetly musing, "We caught nothing... but each other... and that's all we needed to catch." Plus, she tagged him. Would you really say something like that and tag a dude you are no longer dating? We think not.

Carly and Kirk: IG 5

Carly and Kirk: IG 5

DeWindt followed suit, posting a close-up of the shot with the simple message, "And if I take you fishing, you know I like you." You guys! They're so sweet, I could eat them with a spoon.

3. Snapchatting shenanigans

Carly and Kirk: IG 6

Two weeks ago, Waddell shared her Snapchat handle with the world — crazy facial expression and all.

A week later, DeWindt posted a screen grab of his Snapchat, likewise sharing his handle and saying of his crazy facial expression, "I've been known to get carried away on #snapchat once in awhile [sic]." Hmm, whomever could he be Snapchatting with?

4. Spending Friday nights in

Carly and Kirk: IG 8

Carly and Kirk: IG 8

This past week, DeWindt posted a picture of his low-key Friday night, which involved a sunset, the lake and a rod and reel.

Carly and Kirk: IG 9

Only a few days prior, Waddell posted a cartoon depicting a woman tucked into bed with coffee and a laptop. The caption? "I love a wild Friday night." Waddell's comment clues us into the fact that she had a cold, but she was perfectly content to chill at home on Friday night regardless. Since we know that, at least for the time being, she and DeWindt are living in different states, maybe he opted not to spend his Friday night partying out of solidarity.

5. Reliving Paradise

Two weeks ago, both Waddell and DeWindt posted a sunset scene from their date on that week's episode, with DeWindt remarking, "The beauty that is Paradise." Something tells us he isn't talking about the sunset.

6. Reveling in cozy moments on location

Over the last few weeks, these good-lookin' lovebirds have both been more than happy to share precious snapshots of their time together on Bachelor in Paradise. Again, if they were indeed broken up, we highly doubt they'd be so quick to recall what once was.

7. Getting a little frisky

OK, so this is mainly Waddell — and we love her for it. She's been sharing suggestive pics, comments and even T-shirts for weeks now. "LOVERS GONNA LOVE shirt — very appropriate for this evening," she coyly comments in the latter. Someone is getting some action from one super-hunky redhead, amiright?

8. Heading down similar paths

Carly and Kirk: IG 20

We know Waddell packed her bags and moved to Nashville following her stint on Soules' season of The Bachelor. Here, she shares a snippet of what we hope shapes up to be a successful career in country music.

Carly and Kirk: IG 18

And, here, uh, erm. Fine, we really just wanted to share this picture with you. Why? Sharing is caring, dear friends. Sharing is caring. Also, we're semi-worried DeWindt has been stung by a hive of bees and could be in danger of anaphylaxis given the extreme swelling in his pectoral area. (Waddell, ya done good, girl.)

The other truth we can deduce from this photo is that DeWindt — although a proud Twin Cities native — would do just fine further south. Oh, you know... say, Nashville.

RHONY's Sonja Morgan backpedals on insensitive Kristen Taekman comments

More: RHONY's Sonja Morgan responds to alcoholism accusations

Sonja Morgan didn't hold back when she spoke out about her Real Housewives of New York costar's marriage drama.

But now, Morgan is saying that when she said she wasn't surprised to learn Kristen Taekman's husband had an account on the cheating website Ashley Madison, she thought she was speaking privately to a friend, not a reporter. Right.

"Egg on my face," Morgan told NBC New York, days after she was quoted by Page Six as saying she "could see [the scandal] coming."

The Page Six piece also said Morgan said she "didn't like the way he was treating her" and he "chipped away at her self-esteem" when she was asked about the scandal that erupted around Kristen and Josh Taekman following a massive hack of Ashley Madison's account holder data.

Now Morgan, who says she was at a magazine shoot when the quotes were taken, claims that "there were a lot of people there from the news, covering that event, and I was talking to someone — I thought privately."

She continued, "I was just saying what everyone was saying, that they weren't surprised. But I would never get in her business like that, normally. I didn't mean for that to happen."

The real kicker? She went on to say she should "know better" than to talk that way about a costar, but also admitted she hasn't apologized to Taekman, despite her frantic backpedaling to the media.

"I probably should do that, I should text her," she said. "I know she knows I'm here if she wants to talk, but I don't tend to stick my nose in other people's business — though they do that to me!"

Clearly she never sticks her nose in other people's business. We can definitely tell by the way she gossips, whether it's in private, as she claimed, or to reporters at a media event.

Meanwhile, another RHONY costar has come to Josh's defense.

"The Ashley Madison thing is unfortunate because Josh is completely innocent," Heather Thomson, friend of both Kristen and Josh, told Us Weekly. "If you knew Josh the way I know him, you’d be completely like, 'Of course he would sign up for that with this buddies!' That’s a total Josh thing to do! He has a very fraternity side to him that I love."

Amanda Peterson's cause of death proves it could have been avoided

More: Sarah Silverman writes amazing tribute to her late mother (PHOTO)

TMZ, citing a coroner's report from Weld County, Colorado, is reporting that the Can't Buy Me Love actress died of respiratory failure caused by a "morphine effect" that came from an accidental drug overdose.

Peterson, who was 43 at the time of her death, was found July 5 at her home in Greeley, Colorado. TMZ says the actress had multiple drugs in her system when she died, including benzodiazepines, opiates, phenothiazines and marijuana.

According to TMZ, it was one particular drug, Gabapentin, that may have been the ultimate culprit in the star's early death. The drug was "prescribed for pain and the medical examiner said she had six times the normal level in her system," according to the site.

More: George Cole: 5 Facts about the late actor you may not have known

A toxicology report also shows that Peterson admitted a week before her death to taking morphine medication she obtained illegally from friends.

Peterson's mother, Sylvia, opened up to Entertainment Tonight following her daughter's death about Peterson's drug addiction and depression that followed her meteoric rise to fame after starring alongside Patrick Dempsey in 1987's Can't Buy Me Love. But drugs were the one thing Sylvia said at the time weren't responsible for her daughter's death, showing just how easily drug addiction can blindside a family.

"This was not, in any way, a drug thing," she said, adding that Peterson was happy and in a good place when she died. "Amanda was in very good spirits… I just think she was a precious person and it's a big loss."

The Danish Girl trailer may sum up Kris Jenner's heartbreak over Caitlyn

The Danish Girl is a love story between two real-life artists, Lili Elbe (Eddie Redmayne) and Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander), who were married in Denmark in 1904. When Gerda was in need of a female model, her husband, born Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener, happily donned women's clothing and sat while his wife painted him as a woman.

The real Lili Elbe

Image: Creative Commons/Focus Features

The above image shows the real Lili Elbe next to Eddie Redmayne in costume for the film.

As time went on, Einar discovered he felt much more comfortable as a woman and began to live as one in Paris, taking the name Lili Elbe and even undergoing a still very experimental — and ultimately deadly — series of sex reassignment surgeries beginning in 1930.

More: Why Kris Jenner shouldn't have to comment on Caitlyn Jenner's every move

In the trailer, we see Vikander as Gerda, excited by her husband's female alter ego at first — when he was dressed as a woman in public, she'd introduce him as her sister and both enjoyed beguiling the men around them. But soon, Gerda realized that, for Einer, playing dress-up was more than just a game: Looking and behaving like a woman fulfilled a deep longing for Einer.

At minute 1:13 in the trailer, Gerda sees her husband dressed as Lili and kissing another man. When she confronts him, telling him, "We were just playing a game," Einer tells her, "Something changed."

We can only imagine how difficult it must have been for Kris Jenner the first time her husband, then called Bruce, told her he felt like a woman and wanted to live as one. We're happy that Caitlyn can now live an authentic life as her true self, but Kris must have been quite sad to lose the husband she thought she knew so well for 23 years.

More: New TV show attempts to create gender parity in engineering

What's exciting about The Danish Girl is that it tells the story of a real marriage dealing with gender issues and the struggle both husband and wife went through. We also get to see a true transgender pioneer up on the big screen, giving us perspective on Caitlyn Jenner and revealing how much has and hasn't changed over the decades.

The Danish Girl opens Nov. 27.
