Ariana Grande falls victim to vicious attack by Waiting actor

$

Listen, we're all peeved at Grande right now. There are a few choice Dr. Dre lyrics that Americans would love to send her way regarding what she can do with her opinion. Except we're adults. So, we've chosen to roll our eyes at her adolescent ramblings and her attempt to rebel against the people who love her. We've moved on with our lives. Do we love her as much as we did yesterday morning? Um, no. Will we be buying her next album? Nah, we'll just pirate it. Will we ever want to eat at the same doughnut shop as her? Definitely not. But that's it. That's how we're choosing to handle Grande's hateful remarks about America.

One Canadian "comedian" and "actor" decided to take another approach, though. It seems as if Waiting's Milonakis’ temper got the best of him and he went on a tremendous Twitter rampage against the teeny bopper. He called her every name in the book and then proceeded to threaten to beat up one of her fans. Check out the deluge of hate:

In case you’re wondering, "Who the hell is this dude?" Don’t worry: Only one person in the SheKnows office knows who he is, too. His entire IMDb account contains only 21 acting credits. Of those credits, his biggest claim to fame is Waiting… and voicing an occasionally recurring character on Adventure Time. So, why does a nearly-40-year-old Canadian dude want beef with the rebellious 22-year-old singer? Our best guess is a little attention.

You got it, Milonakis. Now, will you go away?

Baby almost starves to death when mother follows naturopath's advice

According to News.com.au, Bodnar, 59 — a self-proclaimed specialist in children’s and parents’ health with 26 years of experience — allegedly advised the mother of the baby boy to stop all medical and dermatological treatment. Instead the breastfeeding mother was put on a liquid diet, which caused the baby to lose more than one kilogram in a month. He was admitted to hospital in May, suffering severe malnourishment and developmental issues.

The mother was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, failing to provide for her baby and causing danger of death. She was granted bail after a court appearance last month.

On Thursday, Child Abuse Squad detectives brought Bodnar up on two charges, one of which was aiding and abetting the mother in failing to provide for the baby. She has also been granted bail and is set to appear in Fairfield Local Court later in July.

More: How to keep your new baby healthy naturally

The good to come out of this is that the baby survived the ordeal and was released from hospital on Wednesday. But if Bodnar is convicted and found to have been acting irresponsibly and dangerously, it is my hope that appropiate action is taken. However, in my mind, the focus should be on the events that led to this child being harmed. What could have been done differently and what lessons can all parents take away from this?

Firstly, always get a second opinion. And especially when it comes to advice given by alternative practitioners, due to the current regulatory framework not prejudice, a second opinion is a must.

I'd like to think that if somebody (no matter how impressive their title or experience) told me that I should stop eating or that I should stop administering my baby's medication, I would question their advice and speak with another professional. A baby cannot advocate for itself, which puts a great deal of responsibility on us as parents. It is our duty to ensure that we have done thorough research and understand the implications of anything that affects our babies' health and wellbeing. Always get a second opinion. Always, always, always.

Furthermore, there’s something to be said for maternal instinct — if it doesn’t look or feel right, then it probably isn’t. This is more of an unsubstantiated belief that I hold: A mother knows when something isn't right — there's a special space in her gut designed specifically for that purpose.

More: 10 Weird things that only parents understand (GIFs)

I hope that this little boy fully recovers, catches up in his development and has a bright, loving future ahead of him, and that his mother has learned her lesson and will be more prudent in the future.

A coconut water cocktail you can almost get away with calling healthy

In the tropical islands, coconuts are everywhere, and one of the best ways to freshen up in the heat is to drink the water inside. With a little bit of rum and syrup, you can create an incredibly refreshing summer cocktail in just five minutes. Of course, that's not counting the time you crack open the coconut shell. Get help from someone who knows how, because it can be tricky using a knife to open it. But if you are opting for the easier way, then just grab a bottle of the most natural coconut water you can get in the supermarket. The important thing is that you enjoy it while relaxing like you're on vacation.

Charlotte McKinney falls victim to cyberbullying with nude pics

McKinney is the latest celeb to fall victim to a hacking scandal. This, unfortunately, is also McKinney's second time having to deal with this nonsense.

Late Wednesday night, several nude photos turned up on the bombshell's Instagram account, showing a topless torso in one with thumbs covering the nipples. A second photo, which showed an apparently naked brunette eating a pizza on a couch was also posted. The photos were swiftly removed from her account. but the Carl's Jr. spokeswoman is claiming that she didn't post them in the first place. She says she is the victim of a cyber attack and her Instagram account has been hacked.

More: Monica Lewinsky is anything but a victim of cyberbullying

On Thursday she posted, "To all my followers, I've once against become a victim of hacking." She echoed our exact sentiments by continuing, "It's disgusting people enjoy doing this to others," and told her fans to disregard any messages that people may have gotten from her and thanked them for their support.

Charlotte McKinney's Instagram post

Charlotte McKinney's Instagram post

More: I survived cyberbullying, but it nearly ruined my life

The photos had questionable captions, such as, "I'm gonna be so damn hungover tomorrowww [sic]," and "Janet dared me to lmao. so frikkin drunk Rnn IDC [sic]," making it seem as if she had just gotten in from a night of drinking and decided to share some naked selfies. We aren't buying it for a second. From the strange nature of the captions and the weird chick stuffing a pizza in her face, it truly appears as if her account was hacked.

As stated before, this is the second time McKinney has had to deal with photos being posted by someone other than herself. In April, several nude selfies, which are clearly McKinney as her face is visible, were posted to her account and quickly removed.

McKinney’s rep told TMZ, "Charlotte has once again become a victim of hacking. It is disgusting someone does this and hopefully laws will change to protect people from these cyber attacks."

Turn a boring mouse pad into an adorable cat mouse pad with fabric

$

However, instead of going out to buy in person or search online for a design I liked, I decided to make my own design by cutting the old mouse pad into a cute shape then adding a happy colorful fabric. Mission accomplished. I converted my old boring mouse pad into an adorable colorful cat-shaped design.

Mouse Pad

Why a cat face shape? Well, first there is the irony of a mouse pad being turned into a cat face. Then there's my real inspiration, this little fellow whose “helping” is not always productive, but I don’t have the heart to fire him. He turns 11 weeks old this week.

Mouse Pad

Materials:

  1. Old mouse pad
  2. Scissors
  3. Marker/pen (to trace design outline)
  4. Mod Podge glue
  5. Fabric (that makes your heart smile!)
  6. (Optional) Draw the cat design yourself or use my cat template here

Mouse Pad

Instructions:

  1. Draw the cat face shape design on your old mouse pad (or use the template outline).
  2. Cut around the outline of the cat face outline.
  3. Trace the fabric cat design.
  4. Cut the fabric cat design.
  5. Apply glue to the top of the mouse pad then place the fabric on top and apply glue to the top of the fabric. Use Mod Podge glue to seal the fabric onto the mouse pad and waterproof it.
  6. Let it dry (about 2 hours).

Mouse Pad

Mouse Pad

Extra tips:

  • Cut your fabric with fabric scissors to avoid having the fabric edge fray away (which can be quite annoying). Some fabrics fray, others do not.
  • If you do not have fabric scissors, then add extra Mod Podge to the edges of the cat face mouse pad and add Elmer's glue around the edge or use Fray Block adhesive. Easy breezy.
  • The fabric that I wanted to use was very thin so I simply doubled up on the fabric. Aim to choose a thick fabric or double up as I did.
  • No need to run out to hunt down fabric. You can if you want. Try the thrift store for some great economical leftover fabrics or shop in your closet. Are there any old shirts, skirts, scarves or shorts that you have been planning on getting rid of (because it has a stain or hole, etc.)? Well now you can turn the fabrics into a lovely mouse pad... that you awesomely created!

Mouse Pad

Oh, and creating a cute-shaped fabric mouse pad definitely gives you props to go around declaring “yeah baby, I made this pretty cat mouse pad from my ooooold mouse pad."

So here’s my question to you: is your current mouse pad boring? Go ahead, look at yours now. If you are not at your desk then try to remember how it looks. If you can’t remember, then it’s 100 percent boring. You now have no excuses especially when this DIY project takes less than 10 minutes to do! (not counting the drying time and gathering the materials). Go ahead, grab those scissors (you know you want to!) and create a unique fun design for you or simply mosey on over to grab my cat face design template for free.

7 Doctor Who Season 9 predictions based on the new trailer (VIDEO)

Doctor Who fans, the long winter is over, Comic-Con brought us not only a premiere date for Season 9 (Sept. 19), but a brand new trailer as well. The trailer is… well, you have to see it to fully understand just how amazing Season 9 has the potential to be. After the tragic death of Danny Pink and the loss of Gallifrey at the end of Season 8, Clara and the Doctor are back to traversing time and space, and they appear to be embarking on some amazing adventures.

The Doctor is almost manic in his enthusiasm. He dons sunglasses and breaks out a guitar, but he's also still dark and dangerous. "I'm the Doctor and I save people," he declares at the end of his epic voiceover. That's not news, but the creepy new aliens he will be facing off against are. The Doctor and Clara go up against spooky, eyeless aliens, some familiar old enemies and possibly even space zombies — this is definitely going to be a good season.

Doctor Who Season 9 Trailer

Doctor Who Season 9 Trailer

It's all a little vague at the moment, but it is an exciting vagueness ripe with spoilers. Here are seven predictions on what could be ahead in Season 9 based on the tantalizing footage from the trailer.

1. Missy is going to team up with the Doctor and Clara

Missy is back and in some kind of trouble in the trailer. Someone (or something) is trying to use her for target practice. It doesn't seem like she's there to antagonize our heroes this time, though. Quite the contrary, they appear to all be working together, but against what?

2. Season 9 is going old-school with the Zygons

The classic, shape-shifting aliens known as the Zygons will be in the new season. We catch a glimpse of one snatching a little girl in one frame. The Zygons are particularly scary bad guys because they can appear as anyone as long as they keep the person alive. The new season will have a two-part episode devoted to the Zygons, so expect to see double of Clara and/or the Doctor.

More: Need a refresher course on the history of the Zygons? We've got you covered

3. The Doctor vs. space zombies?

Those things climbing out of the mud certainly look like zombies. It's been a while since Doctor Who took on the undead trope (although it's going to be hard to top Season 1's "Unquiet Dead"), but it is always fun to see the show put a new spin on a fantasy staple.

4. Another spaceship adventure

We are definitely getting a traditional spaceship adventure in Season 9. Nearly every new Who season has had the Doctor and his companion land on a typical sci-fi spaceship for a deadly quest, and it seems to be Clara's turn. The episode will likely feature a brush with death for Clara — just look at how tightly she and the Doctor are hugging while she's still in her spacesuit.

More: Steven Moffat wants the Doctor and Clara to get romantic

5. Arya Stark meets the Doctor

"What took you so long, old man?" Arya Stark — I mean, Maisie Williams — asks the Doctor at the end of the trailer. His response ("You?") makes me wonder if Williams is playing a character we've met before. Could she be a young Clara, perhaps? She did scatter versions of herself throughout time. Whoever she is, the Doctor looks shocked to see her. I'm guessing the fans are just freaking out over Game of Thrones and Doctor Who colliding.

6. The Daleks return (again)

The Daleks are back again. Those pepper pots never stay gone for long. It is hard to tell if the Doctor's most familiar foes have gotten an upgrade this season, but they are bound to bring out the dark side of Peter Capaldi's version of the Doctor. That's good news because Capaldi is amazing at playing an angry Doctor.

7. Clara's last ride

It has not been confirmed, but given Jenna Coleman has hinted she may be exiting Doctor Who at the end of Season 9, I am going to predict this is Clara's last run of adventures. If it is, at least it looks like she's going out with bang.

More: Clara is staying with the Doctor for now, but how long will her tenure as companion last?

Sherlock released an early Christmas present for Benedict Cumberbatch fans (VIDEO)

Benedict Cumberbatch certainly makes that deerstalker look good. While original-flavor Sherlock makes us thirsty, seeing Cumberbatch's consulting detective in Victorian garb takes his sexiness to a whole new level. This Christmas, we will all be fanning ourselves as Sherlock and Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman) suit up for a classic, one-off adventure in Victorian England.

More: Let Benedict Cumberbatch tell you what Sherlock would be like in bed

PBS released a scene from the episode and the snappy banter will have you begging for more immediately. It's not just Cumberbatch's hotness that is on display, it is also his wit. He is absolutely charming as he channels a more familiar take on Sherlock. Meanwhile, Watson is restored to the storytelling role he had in the original Sherlock stories and Mrs. Hudson is not too happy with his tales. Even Sherlock has something quippy to say about Watson's storytelling techniques. "Don't feel bad, Mrs. Hudson, I was barely in the dog one," Sherlock says wryly.

For his part, creator Steven Moffat has said the episode will take place outside of the show's normal narrative and it is the last we will see of Sherlock and Watson until Season 4. "It's like we checked the books and discovered we'd set it in the wrong time period by mistake and it's like we're correcting it," Moffat said in a BBC statement. "We're really proud of it; we think it's a real cracker. But that'll be it until series four."

How to make your own pretty address planter box

Mailbox

Of course, those are typically reserved for when it's not the middle of summer in Phoenix and your skin is melting off at temps upwards of 115. For whatever reason, we decided to break that rule and went for it. Of course, our son wanted to help.

Mailbox

The address numbers on our house were a little less than desirable. While they did their functional job, they weren't anything special to look at and I really love things that serve both purposes. Who doesn't? So, we opted for a planter box with some new numbers that better suited our style.

This project is pretty easy, but does require some power tools and a pallet scavenger hunt.

Mailbox

Mailbox

Here's what you'll need:

  • An old pallet
  • Wood stain
  • Address numbers of your choice
  • 2 long brackets
  • 4 small "L" brackets
  • Small screws and drill bits
  • A power drill
  • Saw of some kind
  • Plants of your choice
  • Soil

Directions:

Step 1

To start out, you'll need to decide how big you'd like your planter to be. We made ours 12 x 20 inches but you can adjust based on what kind of space that you have available on your house. You can also make yours wider instead of longer if that works better for you.

Once you have your measurements, you'll need to pull apart the long pallet pieces and cut them down to your desired width. We needed 9 pieces cut to 12 inches wide in order to create the size and shape we wanted. We used 6 of them for the back, 2 for the front and 1 for the bottom. You'll also need to cut the side pieces. The size of these pieces will depend on how deep you'd like your planter to be. We cut ours at 6 inches.

Mailbox

Step 2

Arrange the back pieces in a row and attach the two long brackets. You'll have to use a small drill bit to pre-drill the holes and then attach the brackets with small screws.

Mailbox

Mailbox

Step 3

Use the small "L" brackets to create the planter box and then use small screws to attach the front pieces.

Mailbox

Step 4

Stain the box. This part was painful for me as wood stain requires such a long dry time. Don't rush it. We chose a darker stain than I originally envisioned, but in the end, I love how it turned out.

Mailbox

Mailbox

Step 5

Once the box is dry, you can attach the numbers. The ones we bought came with handy papers so we knew where to pre-drill our holes to attach them.

Mailbox

Step 6

Next you can hang up on the outside of your house and fill with soil and the plants of your choice. Naturally I chose succulents and cacti, but it could look really beautiful with flowers or a hanging vine too.

Mailbox

I love how this looks on the front of our house. It gives it some extra personality and much needed color. I also can't get over the numbers. For a font nerd like me, it was important that those were perfect. I hope you share pictures of yours if you make one.

Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams reveals why fans are going to be disappointed

Maisie Williams is as cold as Arya Stark. OK, maybe she's not that cold (she actually seems quite lovely), but she is ready to disillusion fans. During a recent interview with MTV News, Williams was quick to shut down all those pesky Jon Snow rumors.

"Jon Snow is dead, and you need to get over it," she told MTV. "That’s my answer to everything. People are like, 'No, but there’s still hope!' And I’m like, 'If you carry any hope, you’re going to be disappointed.'"

More: If Jon Snow is dead, then what is Kit Harington doing in Belfast?

Harsh, much? While I love how straightforward Williams is, I still can't give up on Jon. Even though Williams seems convinced that her TV show brother is gone for good, there are all kinds of ways for Jon to return. Besides, it's not the dead part that fans are arguing about, it's whether or not Jon will stay dead or come back as someone else entirely. Azor Ahai has to rise at some point or Westeros is screwed.

More: Kit Harington's Game of Thrones exit interviews may include hints to his return

I am not going to argue with Arya, though. She's way too tough for me. If she says Jon is dead, then I'll believe her… for now.

More: Jon Snow got a bad rap as Lord Commander of The Night's Watch

Williams also had some insightful commentary on the controversy surrounding Game of Thrones' treatment of women. She pointed out that while she agreed it should be discussed, she hopes fans don't get too caught up in one facet of the show when Game of Thrones has so many topics just waiting to be discussed. Currently, most fans are focused on Jon, and despite Williams' assertions, I don't think anyone will be giving up hope until Kit Harington shaves his head and signs onto an NBC sitcom.

That's a really different tune than the one she was singing just the day before, when she said in an interview with Real Mr. Housewife that she and Simon are still friends and her busy life was behind the breakup.

"Simon and I are still really good friends but because of my busy schedule things just didn't work out," she told the site. "I am single now and ready to mingle!"

It's hard to imagine what Farrah could be referencing when she alludes to Simon not knowing what he's doing. He's pretty successful and the two had a seemingly happy relationship for the two years they were together. Simon was Farrah's first long-term boyfriend since her ex, Derek Underwood — the father of her daughter, Sophia — was killed in a car accident before Sophia's birth.

It could have had something to do with Simon's relationship with Sophia. On the last season of Teen Mom OG, Farrah had to really push Simon to spend time with Sophia, and he wasn't seen at all during the final episode, prompting some fans to wonder if they actually broke up long before Farrah made the official online announcement.

RHONY's Ramona Singer sounds so conceited talking about her husband's affair

$

And the "real" reason she's giving for the split and his cheating sounds like a bunch of self-serving excuses from where we’re sitting.

The reality TV star told Peopleher husband felt left behind. "My success as a celebrity bothered him," Singer said. Oh, really? How fitting, since she is promoting her book, Life on the Ramona Train. She continued, "I think he felt that we were no longer a team. It was my success as a celebrity reality star and notoriety that bothered him."

Yes, she’s serious — but she wasn't done peacocking just yet. "If someone said, 'Can I take a photo with Ramona?' or interrupted our conversation at dinner, he would get upset. He could have jumped in, but he continued to be passive," Singer said.

More:  RHONY's Ramona Singer's plan to move on and get married is flawed

Singer filed for divorce the first time back in January, after her husband was found cheating on her in the Hamptons, but she reconciled with him. She is now calling it off again and is convinced that it is her celebrity status that caused the rift in her love life. "The affair was really a symptom of unhappiness," she said.

She later tweeted, "I have decided to move on with my life without Mario. I tried my best to make my marriage work. I am excited for the new chapter in my life."

Singer doesn’t appear to be losing any sleep over her failed marriage and already has her new man picked out. Her next ideal husband is "in his 50s and has been married, with children in college. He is successful but doesn’t work from 8 to 8, so we can take long weekends and vacations. And he loves to kiss!" Oddly specific, but OK.

She recently told In Touch, "Two years from now, you're going to see me married! I still believe in love. I'm on a new journey now and I have no doubt I’ll find someone who will be a better fit for me today."

Maybe she really does feel this way, but it sounds just so unoriginal and trite, it is hard to not see her words as conceited.

First chapter of Go Set a Watchman drops a major bomb about Scout's brother

$
0
0

We always knew Harper Lee was capable of changing lives. She did it once with her undeniable classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, and it looks as if she's done it again with Go Set a Watchman. We've only read the first chapter thus far, but it's brilliant and striking and picks up with Jean Louise Finch exactly where you'd expect to find her: in the South.

More: Was Harper Lee tricked out of royalties?

Not everything in Macomb is the same as we last saw it, though. No, while Watchman was initially written before Mockingbird, it actually comes later in Miss Jean Louise's story and places her on an annual visit home to Macomb, this time at the age of 26. Her father (and a man we've loved almost as much as our own dads) is in his seventies and suffering from crippling arthritis. Jem's best pal and Scout's could-be-would-be suitor serves as his assistant/partner. Jem, however, is gone and we're told of his absence with nothing more than one sentence.

"Just about that time, Jean Louise’s brother dropped dead in his tracks one day, and after the nightmare of that was over, Atticus, who had always thought of leaving his practice to his son, looked around for another young man," Lee wrote.

We shouldn't feel as badly as we do. Jem was a character in a book. He was one part Scout's friend, one part her protector and one part her tormentor. But, because of our tendency to put ourselves in Scout's shoes, Jem became those things to us, as well. We need more closure, but it seems unlikely. It's not as if we can be mad at Lee. This startling fact was put in only as a footnote to the larger story of Watchman. She had no way of knowing at the time that Watchman would evolve into Mockingbird, nor that Mockingbird would become such a staple in American literature or Jem such a well-loved character. This second addition to her legacy was published without major edits because Lee is no longer capable of taking on the task. Jem's abrupt departure from Scout's life will forever be just as abrupt for us.

More: Everything we know about this long-awaited sequel

Of course, it's possible more on Jem's life and death will be brought to light upon the official release of the book. Go Set a Watchman is scheduled for release on Tuesday, and you can bet your apples we'll have a review up as soon as possible afterward. In case you aren't aware of Lee's impact or her lasting legacy, take this fact into consideration: Go Set a Watchman is Amazon's best selling pre-order since 2007's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

You can read the first chapter of Harper Lee's soon-to-be-classic over at The Wall Street Journal, or listen below at this sneak peek of Reese Witherspoon reading the audiobook.

INTERVIEW: Why the Cimorelli sisters are my new role models

Though I prepared beforehand, I wasn't really sure what to expect from the interview. Would one of them do all the talking? How do I get them to open up to me? These thoughts swirled in my head as I heard them approaching, but my worries were immediately soothed when I looked up to see their genuine smiles.

They introduced themselves and each shook my hand one by one, grinning ear to ear. Wow, these girls are rays of sunshine, I thought to myself. And then they did something I wasn't expecting: They asked me about myself. Even though I was supposed to be the one asking the questions, they treated me as more than just another annoying journalist asking them the same old interview questions. It was so refreshing, being on the receiving end of the questions for once, and they wholeheartedly cared about getting to know me a bit before diving into their interview.

We started with the easy stuff and gradually dove into deeper, more personal subjects, just as I conduct most of my interviews. But this didn't really feel like an interview — it was more of a casual, fun conversation. These sisters made me feel comfortable and at ease, as if I had been their gal pal for years.

More: The Cimorelli sisters talk body image and cyberbullying

I was grateful that they didn't mind breaching more personal topics, and they were open to discussing their experiences and struggles. When I brought up the hot topic of body image, I was thankful that I had remembered to hit the "record" button on my phone because these girls offered up some memorable and useful words of wisdom. Nineteen-year-old Amy jumped in and said, "For me, I feel like we're so much more than just our physical being. That's not who we are. We're our brains, we're our souls, we're our minds, we're our thoughts, we're our personality. We're a whole being, but a lot of times, women and men — especially in the entertainment industry — they're all reduced to bodies and objects, and that's not right and that's not what we are." I couldn't have said it better myself, honestly.

This is such a great nugget of wisdom for every woman — young and old — to keep in her back pocket to think about. We all have those days when our hair looks like a mess or we can't find an outfit that looks cute. But Amy proved a great point. There's so much more to us than our appearance, and sometimes we just need that little reminder as we internally freak out about our frizzy hair, bushy eyebrows or small butt. I immediately felt comforted when Amy said this, and it really just put everything into perspective for me.

As Amy talked about this, her sisters all nodded and smiled intently and encouragingly. They mostly took turns answering my questions, usually with the oldest, Christina, taking the reins and speaking up first. But for other questions, they all wanted to talk at once, such as when I asked about whether they experience any negativity online. To this, they all answered with a unanimous groan and resounding "yes." But rather than drone on about how they've experienced cyberbullying, they took a positive spin on it and made me realize how important it is to think differently about these types of situations. Lisa started by saying, "When is the last time you were having a really, really good day and you were really happy with yourself and then you just felt this strong need to insult someone? Never. It doesn't happen. So, anyone who's trying to bring you down has probably been having a really bad day or there's something bad happening in their lives." With a warm smile, Katherine quickly chimed in, adding, "Try to give people the benefit of the doubt."

With cyberbullying affecting tons of teens these days, young guys and gals alike should look to Cimorelli for some inspiration to get through it. Their empathy is off the charts, and they reminded me of the importance of brushing off the haters and keeping your chin up. And even beyond the topic of cyberbullying, they have this awesome ability to turn anything negative into a positive. I think even the most cynical of people could be inspired by them.

More: How the Cimorelli sisters are changing the music industry

Though I steered them through some tough topics, we wrapped up on a positive note when I asked them each to pick another sister and describe her biggest strength in one word. They all looked around the booth at each other, grinning as they thought about how they could possibly narrow it down to one word. Christina started by saying, "Lisa's is awareness. She'll be aware of something that's going on before I'll be aware of it." Lisa was next, saying, "Dani's biggest strength is how she can forgive and get over things really easily." They all chimed in with a few "mm-hmms," nodding in agreement. Then Katherine explained, "Lauren's greatest strength is that she's extremely genuine. Talking to Lauren is refreshing because it's not fake at all."

OK, seriously... could these sisters get any cuter?

Next up was Dani, who said, "Katherine's biggest strength is her words because she has this great vocabulary and she uses it in so many good ways. She's so good at apologizing and communicating and stuff like that." Lauren looked at Amy and thought long and hard, then said, "Amy's strength is that she's like a ray of sunshine. Amy can always brighten up anything." At this point, they were really making me wish I had sisters because of how much they love and care for each other. Lastly, Amy looked over at her oldest sister and said, "I don't wanna be cliché and say that Christina's greatest strength is her leadership, but it kinda is." Lauren couldn't resist chiming in and added, "Christina's greatest strength also is her fun facilitator abilities. She can make anything fun." They all laughed and nodded in agreement, recalling memories of boring car rides when Christina took over and spiced things up a bit. OK, so maybe their answers weren't restricted to just one word, but gosh, were they adorable answers anyway.

Before I knew it, it was time to wrap up with one last question so the girls could prep for their concert later that day, so I asked about what fans can expect in the coming months from the band. It's looking like their future is as bright as their positive attitudes. They just landed an awesome partnership with Hasbro, Inc. to create an original anthem, "What I Do," for the company's newest product, DohVinci. These nifty art and design kits are redefining the arts and crafts game with little plastic devices that shoot out Play-Doh, making for a unique way to let your (oh, and I guess your kids') imagination run wild. With songs that focus on expressing oneself, this was a partnership made in heaven, if you ask me.

More: Study says Taylor Swift has more influence over kids than Justin Bieber

Christina added, "Two things: Tons of new music coming out and tons of touring. Those are the two things we're more passionate about, and we just wanna do those for as long as we can and as much as we possibly can." And with that, the girls politely thanked me, asking if I was coming to their concert later that day. When I told them I wasn't able to attend, they said they were bummed and wished we could've hung out more. Wow, these girls are too sweet, I thought. And the best part was that it was so genuine. I snapped a few photos and headed back home, feeling empowered by their words of wisdom (and jamming to their song "All My Friends Say").

It was obvious to me that I had just met six amazing young women whose positive vibes could turn anyone's frown upside down. What stood out to me the most is the fact that they're not going to let the music industry's standards morph them as they continue to grow as artists. Christina explained that she's had to deny managers' requests to put the older girls in more revealing outfits simply because they're older. So if you're a mom looking for a new role model (or six, for that matter) for your daughter, I think the answer is quite clear. All of their music is totally kid-approved, but I can guarantee that you'll also be jamming to one of their songs after one listen.

Is a twerking teddy bear appropriate for your kid?

My, how times have changed. Maybe it's me, but does anyone else feel like our society gets raunchier by the day? Certain behaviors just aren't that shocking anymore, and that's a bit scary.

The phenomenon known as "twerking" has completely taken over this country. People can't seem to get enough of this dance craze that has them shaking their rumps without care. It has become so popular that Oxford Dictionaries has added it to its list of acceptable words. As much as I love letting loose from time to time, as a parent, I have to make sure my behavior matches the message I want to send to my children.

Videos are sprouting up on YouTube over these booty-shaking teddy and panda bears. The teddy bear wears a baseball cap and tee that reads "shake it!" as he grooves to the Austin Mahone and Pitbull song "Mmm Yeah." The panda sports a jacket and dances to V.I.C.'s "Wobble." These bears are apparently sold in different Walmart stores across the country, and they divide parents down the line regarding what is and isn't appropriate for their child.

Now, I'll be the first to admit they're kind of cute. I'm not that much of a prude to understand the fun in a toy. Would I ever consider scooping one up for myself or gifting it to a friend? Maybe. Does this mean I would purchase one for my kid? More than likely not.

Obviously I don't think you should give this to a small child, though sadly, I wouldn't put it past people. Facebook and other social media outlets are full of videos showing young children gyrating and shaking their butts as adults cheer them on. Since when is a toddler or child trying to imitate a video girl OK? Our society is already oversexualized enough. I really don't think we need to add to it.

Friends of mine with older children are sometimes appalled at the things they catch them and their peers doing. My question is, can you really get mad at what they do in public when you don't check their actions at home?

I'm well aware that toys and teddy bears aren't always intended for children, but shouldn't those that aren't be sold elsewhere — or at the very least away from general sections intended for children? Then again, it might not be a big deal to companies and some parents, as their child can find toy guns in certain aisles.

Things like this are definitely a personal judgment call each parent will have to make. Some might not see the big deal in their child playing with something like this. Others like myself, who get the humor, might read a little more into the message they want to send.

Singer Sophie B. Hawkins gives birth at age 50: Find out the baby name

Sophie B. Hawkins says it's never too late to start a family, which is why she just gave birth to her second child at the age of 50. Her daughter, Esther Ballantine Hawkins, was born on July 7 in New York City and weighed a healthy eight pounds. Esther is a name of Hebrew origin which means, "star."

Hawkins, who is dating Rosie O’Donnell, also has a 7-year-old son named Dashiell.

"Dashiell and I are ecstatic to finally be with our beautiful girl," she told Us Weekly. "Our family is now complete!"

Hawkins froze 15 embryos when she was 31 and said she thinks this time in her life is the perfect age to raise kids.

"Being 50 is actually an amazing age to have a second child because I am more wise, calm, humorous, appreciative, simple and clear," she said. "I'm not running around looking for love and validation. I live each day full of gratitude, and that's good for my children."

She said she had a healthy pregnancy and she was more worried about losing the closeness with her son Dashiell than anything else.

"I'm in great health and Dashiell was a healthy pregnancy, but the risks emotionally seemed huge," she confessed. "Losing the closeness with Dash, our free and adventurous lifestyle and the risk that he would feel betrayed by my having another child. We've come through serious trauma with depth, healing and humor and that has made our bond even stronger."

Hawkins reportedly plans on raising Esther and Dashiell with O’Donnell, who has five kids of her own. O’Donnell divorced her wife Michelle Rounds in February of this year and the two began dating shortly after.

Prince Philip was none too pleased with a photographer during a recent photocall. The group, consisting of the 94-year-old Philip, Prince Edward, Prince William and several other veterans, was gathering to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in London when a photographer was trying to get the talkative group arranged for the picture. When the photographer was becoming a nuisance to William's grandpapa, he unleashed some rather salty language, saying, "just take the f***ing picture!"
