Chrissy Teigen hilariously mocks Instagram's nudity policy

More: Twitter attacks Chrissy Teigen for being 'drunk' at the BBMAs

The model is flipping a giant bird to Instagram after the site removed photos of her recent W magazine photoshoot, in which she appears completely topless.

Instagram and the #freethenipple movement have famously butted heads in the past. Other celebrities, most notably comedienne Chelsea Handler, have stood up to the social network's vague policies regarding nudity in photos. In April, Instagram updated its community guidelines to say "We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram. This includes photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks. It also includes some photos of female nipples, but photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too."

But a lot of women take issue with the simple fact that male nipples are OK, and female nipples are not.

The latest of those is Teigen, who posted her topless shots, only to have them removed by Instagram. She posted them again, and again they were removed. So Teigen followed Instagram's guidelines: "Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK."

Sure, her photos with oil painting and sketch filters probably aren't exactly what Instagram was referring to in its community guidelines. But is she actually violating those guidelines now that her nudity looks like an oil painting? Looks like a gray area to us.

An original Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member says goodbye to the show

It's a sad day for Real Housewives of Atlanta fans: NeNe Leakes is not returning for Season 8. The reality star turned actress told People she has decided not to resign her contract. Given how fast Leakes' star has been on the rise in recent years, her departure was inevitable, but that doesn't make it sting any less. Her vivacious personality will be impossible for the producers to replace.

More: Was NeNe Leakes and Kim Zolciak's road trip a terrible idea?

For her part, Leakes sounds more than ready for her next adventure. Although she struggled with the decision, Leakes told People, "I feel a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders."

Moving on means Leakes can focus on her career goals without the demanding schedule of a reality series standing in her way. In recent years, Leakes has shown promise as a comedic actress in shows like Glee and The New Normal. Whatever she does next, her passionate fans are sure to follow.

More: RHOA's Kandi Burruss bizarre list of demands will make you giggle

Where does this leave Real Housewives of Atlanta though? Leakes was by far the show's most recognizable cast member, and an original member too. Without her, the show will be missing its anchor, but it also might give the other women a chance to grab the spotlight. The question, do any of the other women a personality as strong as Leakes'?

More: Kim Zolciak's Instagram rant is epic and a definite must-see

There is one small glimmer of hope though. Leakes is not ruling out the occasional return to the show that made her a household name. "I'm not saying I'm gone forever," Leakes informed People. "I'll probably pop up and play with those girls every now and then."

Do you think Real Housewives of Atlanta can survive without Leakes?

11 Features parents really want in their next car

1. Big back seats

Image: Giphy

Those two-door coupes with bucket seats are a thing of the past. Now I want space for multiple car seats and leg room to keep tiny feet from digging into my back as I drive down the road. Backseat dance parties take up a lot of space, you know?

2. LATCH hooks

Installing car seats is the stuff nightmares are made of. LATCH hooks make it so much easier, and anyone who has hooked up a car seat without them knows they're a necessity. I look for hooks that are exposed, not the ones I have to dig for.

3. Trunk space

Image: Giphy

Strollers, diaper bags, lawn chairs and giant bags of soccer balls are only a few of the things you can expect to tote around when you have kids. Not to mention the giant hauls that are now your grocery excursions. I need room for all this stuff.

4. Folding third row

Image: The Wirecutter

Moms love that extra seating room, either for large families or days when you have the car pool. However, it's tough to give up the storage space if you don't need third-row seating all the time. A third row that folds flat gives you seating when you need it, and doesn't affect the storage space when you don't.

5. Backup cameras

Image: Giphy

If you've ever backed out of a driveway when the kids are outside, or eased your way out of a busy playground parking spot, you know why these are important. They give you peace of mind when little bodies might dart behind your vehicle at any moment. Oh, and they're great for parking, too.

6. Built-in shades

Kids and babies get very cranky when the sun is in their eyes, and no matter how many pairs of tiny sunglasses I have, I can't ever find them when I need them. Pull-down shades are a quick solution to the glaring sun, and they fit much better than the after-market varieties.

7. Power sliding doors

Image: Giphy

"Don't slam that door." You'll never hear yourself saying those words again when you have doors that close automatically (and slowly). Also, kids can release themselves from the car with just a push of a button — which is great when your hands are full or you're in a rush.

8. Cup holders

Image: Giphy

We're not just talking about a place for me to put my morning coffee. Moms want cup holders for everyone in the car — bonus if there are extra holders to handle snacks.

9. Television

OK, we know you don't like to use the TV as a babysitter at home, but having a TV in the car is a must if you're in the car for long periods of time. They're the only way to get quiet car rides or silent waits in the pickup line, especially if you have a kid that gets motion sickness when reading in the car. I don't even mind driving to the cartoon soundtracks when it means I'm not listening to fighting kids. Invest in some headphones for the kids and you can actually listen to the radio in peace and quiet.

10. Remote starter

With little ones, I hate the thought of putting them into a cold car in the winter. And don't even get me started on the whining if you expect them to climb into a hot car over the summer months. Save yourself the trouble and get a car you can start from inside the house.

11. Bluetooth

I'm driving with precious cargo. I don't take chances by handling my phone while I drive. Find a car with a Bluetooth feature. One with talk-to-text is even better — that way you never have to take your hands off the wheel.

How Magic Mike XXL celebrates women of all colors, shapes and sizes

Magic Mike XXL

We swooned over Magic Mike, Channing Tatum's semi-autobiographical film about his days as a male stripper. When we heard they were making a sequel, we all started hoarding crisp dollar bills. Of course, it's difficult for a sequel to recreate the magic of the first film, but sometimes, a clever sequel can add something special to the experience, and even build on what made the first film so exciting. XXL does that by celebrating all the women who love watching these hot dudes dance.

More: Magic Mike XXL sneak peek: Watch at your own risk

In XXL, the male dancers, Magic Mike (Channing Tatum), Big Dick Richie (Joe Manganiello), Ken (Matt Bomer), Tito (Adam Rodriguez) and wild-man Tarzan (Kevin Nash) are all searching for new ways to express themselves beyond just being the stereotype of a sexy fireman or cop in a thong. What's most exciting is that the characters seem to take their cues from the women who adore them.

Magic Mike XXL

To explore what women really desire, the men visit an unusual club called Domina's that is run by a woman named Rome (Jada Pinkett Smith). The club is actually a converted Southern home where each room tells a different story and offers a different sexy experience. So much of the fun is getting to see real women, large and small, in their 40s, 50s and beyond get lap dances from hunky dudes of all ethnicities.

More: Matt Bomer is counting down the days until the end of Magic Mike

Jada Pinkett Smith described Domina's this way: "This is Rome's interpretation of what she believes the world should look like — an equal playing field of feminine and masculine energies and a place where men and women can explore and enjoy those energies together.

"She's not selling sex; she's celebrating beauty. It's a place where women have the opportunity to enjoy their fantasies in the way they choose, rather than the way in which people tell them they should. It brings what's in the dark into the light. Nobody's getting hurt. Nobody's getting exploited. We're able to come together as adults and bask in this energy and have a good time. That was my foundation for this character and what she does."

If only Domina's were a real place!

The strippers' exploration of who they are as performers culminates in a big dance convention held in Myrtle Beach. What's most exciting about their encore dances is how they all bring women up onto the stage and interact with them.

Magic Mike XXL

Each dance is unique and artistic, but our favorite had to be the Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired scenario with Joe Manganiello and his pretend bride (Sonya Golub). After a faux wedding, he straps his "wife" into a harness and goes to town, making us ask, "Christian Grey, who?"

This dance alone is worth the price of admission.

7 Staycation ideas for under $20

$

0

As a mom of two toddlers whose summertime cabin fever results in mass destruction, I am all about the staycation. Though we have a beach weekend to look forward to at the end of the summer, I still have to figure out what to do with these lovable rug rats for the eight weekends leading up to our trip.

What I have discovered during my "local fun times" research is that whoever coined the term staycation is a genius. The internet — and especially Pinterest — is full of cheap and easy staycation ideas for families and singles. I would wager to bet that there are at least a dozen inexpensive or free places you haven't explored yet in your neck of the woods.

If you need some ideas for summertime weekend entertainment, or if you want to plan a low-cost local getaway on a budget, these amazing staycation ideas are the answer to your prayers.

1. Get a Groupon

Groupon Twitter

Groupon Twitter

Are you, too, a seemingly average lady with a secret Groupon addiction? If so, we can be friends. I'm not much of a coupon cutter, but try as I might, I can't delete any Groupon email that hits my inbox. As Carol Jones of My Bored Toddler points out, local Groupon deals are a staycation gold mine. They'll give you plenty of new ideas for nearby tourist attractions you may not have thought of before. (Half-price honey-bottling tour, anyone?)

If you want to have the best Groupon experience, take the advice of Meghan Khaitan, family travel expert and founder of the MyBuckleMate seat belt, and get organized. She says, "Make a schedule of each day of your staycation and what you plan to do. Make sure you have enough activities planned to cover the duration of the staycation. Get the kids involved to make sure you have activities they will enjoy. Having a mix of time at home and time out of the house will be a good balance."

2. Go camping

Camping Twitter

Camping Twitter

Perhaps the smartest way to keep your staycation under two Hamiltons is to map out local state parks and plan a family camping trip with the gear you already have on hand. Richard Masoner, avid cyclist and camper, says, "Some California state parks offer walk-in/bike-in campsites for only $5 a night. Some of these are near urban areas, so no travel required for those who happen to live nearby." Masoner provides a hefty helping of staycation inspiration in his blog that catalogs his family's cheap, overnight bike camping adventure.

For a bare-bones version of Masoner's staycation, Jones explains her cheap and fun approach to keeping young children busy: "Camp out in your backyard — put up a tent and BBQ outside for the night."

3. Go to a festival

Lilac Festival

Lilac Festival

While I am a fan of major festivals that involve music, fried Oreos and beer, I'm an even bigger fan of the random and the weird festivals you may find off the beaten path. If you live in a bustling metropolis, locating a festival almost any weekend of the summer shouldn't be a problem. If you're willing to travel to smaller towns in your radius, a fantastically unexpected fiesta may await you — like the Lilac Festival in Mackinac Island, Michigan, in June or the Rosenberg Junk Hippy Roadshow in Rosenberg, Texas, in July.

4. Go to the symphony

Summer symphony

Summer symphony

If summertime heat is melting your face off, as it is in my area of South Texas, you may want to move this tip to the top of your list. Perfect for families with older children, couples and singles, April Masini of Ask April recommends an evening of culture as a refreshing summertime treat. Masini says, "Find your local symphony and scour their website for concerts being performed during your staycation. There are usually $20 seats in the back of symphony concerts or up front for quartets or smaller event concerts. Live music is a treat that we usually forget about because iTunes are so easy. Treat yourself!"

5. Hit the beach

Beach staycation

Beach staycation

If there is a coast within driving distance of your town, put a day trip to the beach on your summer radar, stat. Take it from me — a single day beach trip could save you anywhere from $200-$500 on the cost of an overnight hotel or condo rental. You can keep costs low during your day of fun in the sun with this helpful tip from TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals' spokesperson Laurel Greatrix: Bring food from home.

Greatrix tells SheKnows, "When it comes to lunch, avoid the pricey beachfront restaurants and pack a cooler with sandwiches and shareable snacks instead. Not only will this cut down on costs, you'll be able to spend more time on the beach and less time in long lines."

6. Hit up local businesses

Summer bowling

Summer bowling

If you happen to live in a non-touristy area, i.e., anywhere in the country that isn't next to a beautiful beach or a major theme park, you may notice an interesting phenomenon in your town during the hot summer months. Paul Moyer of Saving Freak explains that local businesses often see a dip in traffic during vacation season, incentivizing them to drop their rates even more.

Moyer continues, "For instance, our local bowling alley is doing $10 all you can bowl, one day a week in June. So for my family, the biggest deal is always on local businesses and attractions that do not do as much business in the summer or on holidays."

7. Watch a movie under the stars

Summer movies

Summer movies

Once the weather is warmer, one of the most affordable and relaxing ways to while away a summer night is to watch a movie alfresco. For the most part, you're going to find a much more eclectic selection of movie showings at a local park or on a city rooftop — i.e., classic films and favorites instead of major box office hits. For example, the up-and-coming Arts + Entertainment District (A+E) in the heart of Greater Downtown Miami features free outdoor film screenings as a favorite summertime activity, in partnership with the Miami International Film Festival.

If it's too sticky to even think about sitting outside on a summer night, Khaitan has the perfect solution — have a sundae and movie day instead. "If your kids love movies, pick out some classic movies to binge on for a day. Create an ice cream sundae bar with lots of ice cream flavors and toppings. Also, make some popcorn and have soda on hand. Choose a theme like cowboy westerns, comedies, aliens or even Harry Potter!"

6 reasons why Magic Mike XXL is even better than the first

$

Here are six reasons why you're sure to love Magic Mike XXL.

Magic Mike XXL

Image: Giphy

1. Everything is bigger and better

The one thing that all critics seem to agree on is that XXL is Magic Mike times 10. Everything is pumped up to a new degree, with more dancing, more partying and just more general fun. With a cheery, laid-back (and oh yeah, hot) cast like Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer, I think we can all agree more is definitely a good thing.

2. It leaves out the drama

Sure, Magic Mike had plenty of lighthearted, ab-baring moments. But it also provided some serious commentary about young men with a tendency toward self-destructive behavior. This time around, there are far fewer dark scenes. Instead, the sequel is mainly a road-trip film that's clearly meant to give fans what they want and it (mostly) works. The lighter tone plays right into the strengths of the cast. Speaking of which…

Magic Mike XXL

Image: Giphy

3. Everyone gets a chance to shine

Shifting focus away from serious-minded themes allows XXL to place even more attention on its stars and their unbeatable chemistry as an ensemble. In this sequel, all of the guys get their turn in the spotlight with some form of solo or another. Perhaps the most hyped of these solos? Matt Bomer breaking into song — that's right, he can sing, on top of everything else.

Magic Mike XXL

4. Girls finally join in on the fun

XXL will introduce a slew of new female characters. Amber Heard joins the cast as a cool girl named Zoe while Andie MacDowell plays Zoe's mom. Elizabeth Banks portrays a sassy and sexy MC of a male stripper convention (aka the location of their final hurrah). But it's Jada Pinkett Smith who seems to be getting the most attention for her depiction of the fabulous and seductive dance-club owner and Mike's former flame, Rome.

Magic Mike XXL

Image: Giphy

5. It's surprisingly female empowering

Entourage should take notes from XXL, which is getting high critical praise for its appreciative treatment of women. It's not just a movie about a bunch of male strippers looking to satisfy their clients. It's a sweet and sexy story about guys who genuinely care about making women happy — not just physically, but by getting them to break out of their shells. One small but funny example? The scene (pictured above) in which Manganiello, coming down from a drug high, acts out a hilarious convenience store seduction with Cheetos and water to try to get the surly female clerk to smile. I dare you not to crack a grin at that one.

More: Joe Manganiello: Magic Mike XXL will be way more racy than Fifty Shades of Grey

6. There's a happy ending

While it might be light on plot, it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll leave this film with a smile. How could you not? The entire bunch is funny and charming and their big final show together is certainly a memorable one. XXL promised to be a pure crowd-pleaser, and it's safe to say it delivers.

Chorizo sliders are an Independence Day appetizer with a kick

$

I'm a first-generation Latina, and we like to celebrate Independence Day with a little spice and flair. I love a good hamburger as much as the next gal, but I want it to be big, bold and flavorful, probably the same as you. I want it to be an experience worthy of celebrating.

I had chorizo sliders for the first time at a blog conference I attended at Disney World a couple years ago. It was love at first bite. I had never even thought of the combination before—and I'm Mexican. I eat chorizo and guacamole all the time, yet I had never thought of marrying it with ground beef and making a super burger. I knew I had to have it again, and more of it. Sliders are nice as appetizers, and I know tiny food is still a bit of a rage, but when it comes to the Fourth of July, I say go big or go home.

Chorizo burgers

Ingredients

  • 1-pound Spanish chorizo, casing removed and coarsely chopped
  • 2 pounds ground pork or beef
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons smoked sweet paprika
  • Kosher salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound Manchego cheese, shredded
  • 2 avocados
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 large clove garlic, pasted
  • A small handful fresh cilantro leaves
  • About 1/2 cup light cream
  • 8 hamburger rolls

Optional for topping:

  • Bibb lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced red onion

Directions

  1. Turn your grill on to a medium-high heat.
  2. Put chorizo in a food processor and grind into very small crumbles.
  3. Place the ground chorizo and ground pork in a bowl and season with Worcestershire, smoked paprika, salt and pepper. Add a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil to the meat mixture and combine.
  4. Form 8 patties that are thinner at the center than the edges.
  5. Cook the hamburgers for 2 minutes per side. Move to a lower heat and cook for an additional 3 minutes per side for medium-rare burgers. Add an additional minute for medium and 2 additional minutes per side for well done.
  6. Pile the shredded Manchego cheese onto the burgers for the last minute of cook time to melt.
  7. Meanwhile, place the avocados in a food processor. Add the lemon juice, garlic, cilantro and cream, and process until a smooth, mayo-like in consistency.
  8. Serve burgers on rolls topped with avocado cream sauce.

If desired you can add lettuce, tomato and red onion. I prefer it with just the avocado cream sauce.

For a quick side dish that pairs perfectly with these burgers, try my recipe for elote corn casserole. It literally takes about 10 minutes and is very easy.

This recipe was inspired by Rachael Ray's chorizo sliders recipe.

Abe Lincoln wants you to know that American cheese is actually un-American

Tillamook County Creamery Association in Oregon is arguing that it is, in fact, not. American cheese must be labeled as a processed cheese food product per FDA regulations, and some brands contain up to 18 ingredients. Bestowing upon it the name of our country only does a disservice to this great nation and its citizens, argues Tillamook. And Betsy Ross agrees.

"Something that's called American should be real and natural," Tillamook senior director of marketing John Russell said in a press release. "We want to get people to start thinking more about their dairy choices and join Tillamook in the fight for authentic, real food."

That's why the company has started a petition. And it has got some true patriots going to bat for it too — namely, Abe Lincoln, Betsy Ross and, of course, George Washington. Because when George Washington talks, you listen.

How often you should actually be washing your essential wardrobe pieces

$
0
0

Many of us would rather do anything — clean toilets, even — than spend two hours washing, drying and then folding clothing. It just takes so long. If you have a washer/dryer at home, you're pretty much resigning yourself to hours stuck inside (because there's nothing worse than the smell of washed clothes that have been sitting in the machine too long) and if you have to ship off your items to a laundromat, well, that's a whole other level of torture.

But, the reality is, lots of us are washing some of our attire far too often, which isn't good for certain fabrics and just winds up prematurely fading bright colors.

We got experts to weigh in on how often we really should be washing these ten clothing items.

1. Jeans

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Jeans

Denim is one clothing item that can actually look better the less you wash it. Fashion and food blogger Luci Petlack of Luci's Morsels says the fibers that hold jeans together break down naturally with wear, which is why your favorite old pair of jeans seems to be perfectly molded to your body. Too much time spent in the washing machine fades, frays and destroys the shape of your denim pants and shorts. Petlack suggests washing jeans only when you see a visible stain or no more than every 10 wears. And never, ever put them in the dryer — air drying denim is always best.

More: 3 Ways to conserve in the laundry room

2. Bras

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Bras

Kayla Inserra of ClosetSpace reminds women that we should never wear the same bra two days in a row because the elastic needs time to reshape before the next wear. "If you rotate numerous bras throughout the week you can definitely plan to wash them after several wears," Inserra said. Remember: Never toss your delicate bra in a washing machine. Stick to hand-washing them with a delicate fabric wash.

3. Sweaters

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Sweater

Depending on the type of sweater, you can wash cotton, silk and cashmere after two to three wears or more durable fabrics like wool and acrylic after five wears. To clean sweaters, Fashion Guru Lawrence Zarian, author of Lawrence Zarian's 10 Commandments for a Perfect Wardrobe, suggests using a special wool shampoo and either washing them in lukewarm water or putting them in a mesh lingerie bag and using the gentle cycle of your washing machine. Zarian warns to never wring out sweaters and to instead roll them in a towel to absorb excess water and then lay them flat in a well-ventilated room before gently reshaping them so that they dry evenly.

4. Suit pants and jackets

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Suits

You aren't really wearing your work suits out to many dinners where you're spilling steak sauce all over them, right? In that case, rest assured that they don't need to be cleaned very often. In fact, because all suits require dry cleaning, which uses harsh chemicals, Antonio Centeno, the founder of Real Men Real Style (yep, we're borrowing a tip from the boys) suggests only cleaning your suit if a stain has penetrated. If you spill a little coffee on it but can soak that sucker right up, go for it. Even if you often wear the same suit, Centeno says you can go a month or two months before bringing it to the dry cleaner.

5. Leggings

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Leggings

We all have a pair of go-to leggings that we turn to on those mornings we couldn't be bothered to get dressed up. But the American Cleaning Institute doesn't want you to walk around with baggy knees (not a good look) and advises that you wash them after every single wear.

More: Making your own cleaning products is easier than you think

6. Pajamas

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Pajamas

Wash your pajamas after three or four wears. Remember: We often sweat during the night, which is obviously not something you want lingering on your nightgown. Experts say you can go longer between washes if you shower before bed.

7. Tights

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Tights

Like leggings, you must hand wash tights with a gentle fabric detergent after every single wear. Not only does a good wash help reshape them, but it prevents odors — which can easily become trapped in its light fabric — from lingering.

8. Jackets

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Jackets

Good news: Tough, weather-resistant outerwear like coats and jackets needn't be washed more than once a season, according to Zarian. Obviously, exceptions will be made if you find yourself rolling around in mud, in which case, you should always check the label, which will likely require you bring your jacket to the dry cleaners.

9. Expensive yoga/athletic pants

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Yoga

If you sweat in your yoga or athletic pants (which is the whole point, right?) you're of course going to want to wash them after each workout. But the key to making your pants last for years and years is how you wash them, according to Well + Good. A few quick tips: don't wash your pants with towels (hello, lint), use fabric softener, or fill up your cup with detergent — a little goes a long way and a lot can ruin the fabric. Check the label of your garment before determining how to wash it, but if you're just in a rush or cut off your label long ago, Lululemon suggests washing them in cold water and tumble drying on a low setting.

10. Swimsuit cover-ups

You're probably washing your clothes too much: Swimsuit coverups

Just because you don't swim in your swimsuit cover-up doesn't mean it isn't affected by the same elements as your bathing suit — which means it encounters chlorine, salt water, and sunscreen. Since most cover-ups are made with delicate material, it's crucial you treat them as kindly as you do your swimsuit. Hand wash them in cold water anytime you feel they've come into contact with chemicals or oils and skip the dryer. Be careful not to wring out your cover-up — simply lay it flat to dry in a ventilated area.

An investigation by In Touch — the same publication that broke the Duggar molestation scandal — has revealed that the Duggars paid members of their local police force for additional security at both their family home in Arkansas and Josh's new home in the days following his move back from Washington, D.C.

The job was arranged by Kate Gosselin's former bodyguard, Steve Neild, who now works for the family.

The problem? The Tontitown Police Department is actively investigating the family in a child endangerment case. On May 27, a Department of Health Services worker responding to a 911 call was refused entry to the Duggar home when attempting to check the welfare of an unnamed minor inside.

The Tontitown chief of police gave the OK for off-duty officers to provide additional security for the family, creating an obvious conflict of interest in the child welfare investigation.

Neither the police department nor the Duggars have commented on this new development as of yet.

Chris Christie launches a long-shot run for the White House in 2016

"America is tired of weakness in the Oval Office!” Christie bellowed to the gathered crowd at Livingston High School in New Jersey.

Christie tried to give a heartfelt, earnest speech. But it came off as a complete put on. It’s the faux humility that’s hard to swallow. That's not going to be enough to stand out in a crowd of 13 other Republicans seeking the party's nomination.

He tried to reach out to women by talking about his grandmothers and their impact on his life. He even gave an aw-shucks nod to his wife, Pat, who he said came thisclose to being the politician in the family, save for a coin toss that happened to drop in his favor. I guess the Christie's have a "one politician in the family rule." But instead, Christie gave his old lady snaps for raising the kids. Well done, girl. Ass slaps all the way around!

Christie turned earnest as he talked about his family’s struggle. His dad’s tough slog through night school at Rutgers, and honest, hard-working career at the Breyer’s Ice Cream plant in New Jersey sound like the stuff of American fan fiction. His dad sounds like a totally admirable guy.

His son could definitely use a little more of that kind of narrative applied to his own career if he's going to get enough votes to make a serious bid for the White House. Recent polls in New Jersey show Christie only has about a 30 percent approval rating on the job he's doing as governor. He's so deep in the field in the Republican primaries that pundits are questioning whether he’ll have enough support to even qualify for the first Republican presidential debate in August.

Just a few years ago Christie was true political star, known for plain talk and a willingness to reach across the aisle. But now that once-admired reputation is badly damaged. What was once viewed as "plain talk" has started to look an awful like the ranting of an egomaniac, like when he yells at teachers or tells reporters to "Clean the shit out of your ears." And his "get things done" attitude, in light of scandals like Bridgegate, appears to employ back-room bullying over no-nonsense governance.

And if media coverage like this recent, devastating editorial from New Jersey Star-Ledger reporter Tom Moran is any indication, Christie is going to have to run a tough campaign to make any impact at all among the national electorate.

Moran covered Governor Christie's day-to-day dealings for 14 years and wrote this blistering take-down of Christie’s ongoing issues with the truth.

“My testimony amounts to a warning: Don't believe a word the man says,” Moran writes. And it gets worse from there.

And so to counter questions about his credibility like this one, Christie will kick his campaign into full swing with messages like this one from today’s speech.

“I mean what I say and I say what I mean and that’s what America needs right now,” Christie said. He certainly looks like he believes it; let’s see if America is willing to go along for the ride. Perhaps this once-giant on the national political scene can get a crowd behind him again, but he's going to need all of his tough-guy grit and will to make that happen.

On another note, did anyone else notice that weird look Christie's wife Pat had on her face throughout the speech? Kinda strange, right? Like she wasn't listening to the same speech as everyone else?

Check out the full announcement.

Donald Trump drags Hillary Clinton into his $500M lawsuit against Univision

The Spanish-language TV network dropped the Trump-owned beauty contest after the mogul made disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants while announcing he is running for president, which Trump said is a major breach of contract.

Donald Trump Univision lawsuit

Donald Trump Univision lawsuit

But it's the details of the lawsuit that are super interesting. In court documents, Trump accuses Hillary Clinton of leading the effort to smear his character because, he says, he is gaining in the polls against her.

"While Univision has claimed in the media that its decision to cut ties with MUO came in response to certain comments by Mr. Trump during a June 16, 2015 campaign speech announcing his candidacy for President of the United States, the decision was, in reality, a thinly veiled attempt by Univision, a privately held company principally owned by longtime Clinton Foundation donor and current Hillary Clinton fundraiser, Haim Saban, to suppress Mr. Trump's freedom of speech under the First Amendment as he begins to campaign for the nation's presidency and, in recent weeks, has dramatically risen in the polls while expressing critical views of Mrs. Clinton," says the complaint, obtained by Deadline.

Trump also claims that he's always said racist things (tweets about the Baltimore riots, anyone?) and Univision never had a problem with it before.

"Simply stated, there is nothing in the Agreement which gives Univision the right to terminate its relationship with MUO based on Mr. Trump's comments," the complaint reads. "Even if there were, Univision would have been required to serve formal notice on MUO. Univision has failed to do so. Instead, Univision, in an obvious attempt to politicize the situation and suppress Mr. Trump's right to free speech, including his views on both trade and illegal immigration along the U.S.-Mexican border, has made a concerted effort, upon information and belief, in collusion with others, to wage war against Plaintiffs in the media."

Clinton has not commented on Trump's conspiracy theory.

9 Events that may have led to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's divorce

The notoriously private duo announced the news in a statement. And while the couple said that they are splitting on amicable terms and are still committed to co-parenting their children, they gave no real reason for the split.

More: Jennifer Garner: Every day is man's day in Hollywood

But here are some of the factors we think could have led to the Hollywood stars ultimately growing apart.

1. Affleck became Batman

Garner told reporters back in March that she and Affleck switch working so one of them can be at home with the kids. But since Affleck landed the huge role of Batman, his schedule, no doubt, hasn't allowed for much time off, which means Garner has probably been doing most of the parenting, hasn't seen Affleck much and also hasn't been able to grow her own career in the process.

2. Garner wants to focus on her career again

A source close to the couple told Fox News, "Jen is excited to get back to work. She took a step back to focus on her marriage and family but wants to return to making more movies."

She is currently filming a project called Nine Lives, and it could be that getting back to work this year has made her re-prioritize.

3. There has been trouble for a while

Another insider, reportedly friends with Garner, who spoke with Radar Online, said there has been trouble in the relationship for a really long time. It just finally reached a breaking point.

"Often, when Ben and Jen have a problem, they just agree to ride it out and be miserable together until they can get some time apart."

More: Kristen Bell: "You have to be vaccinated to hold my baby"

4. They were tired of all the rumors

Of course they aren't separating because of tabloid gossip. But it could be why they decided to announce their divorce sooner rather than later. No one would blame the two for being tired of all the stories about the impending end to their marriage. For the sake of their children, they might have made the announcement sooner than they otherwise would have to give the gossip time to die down so they can more quickly move on with their lives in peace.

5. Alimony changes after a decade of marriage

Under California law, "The court automatically retains jurisdiction over a divorced couple who were married for more than ten years," according to Gawker. Again, the two obviously didn't get divorced because of alimony payments. But it could be a key reason why the announcement came now rather than down the line. The couple's 10-year anniversary was on June 29.

6. The marriage became work

Affleck was criticized for calling his marriage "work" during his 2013 Oscar acceptance speech for Argo. And while most just thought the comment was taken out of context, now it could be a sign that problems were brewing between the two.

7. Affleck has a poker problem

According to OK! magazine, Garner was none too happy when Affleck ditched his daddy duties to play in a high-stakes poker game in Las Vegas. Affleck was banned from playing poker at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Vegas in May 2014 and admitted to counting cards that September.

8. Affleck's lies revealed in Sony hack

Thanks to Sony hack e-mails, it was revealed that Affleck was involved in a cover up to keep details about his slave-owning ancestor out of a PBS documentary he was featured in. Though Affleck apologized for his part in the censorship, it still may not have impressed Garner.

9. They just aren't forever

People grow and change — and sometimes that growth and change leads them apart. So as tempting as it is to want to search for a gossipy reason behind the divorce, the truth might be really simple: They grew apart.

Hopefully the decision leads to a happier future for both of them and for their three children.

What do you think is the real reason behind Affleck and Garner's divorce?

MTV's Scream: 6 Reasons to get excited for the summer horror hit

$

The Scream franchise is going to get an extra jolt of adrenaline this summer, thanks to MTV. The network has assembled a cast of bright, young things to face down a new murderer in a creepy, darkly funny throwback to the 1996 classic. Just because you have seen the movies, don't go into Scream expecting to know the plot, though. The series is very much doing its own thing — and that thing is giving you some much-needed summer chills and thrills.

Recently, star Connor Weil, who plays the straitlaced basketball player Will, a young man who just wants to go to college and leave his small town life behind, chatted with us about what Scream the series will and won't be. Spoiler alert: One thing it will be is your new favorite summer show.

More: 10 Things you need to know about Scream star Connor Weil

1. The series is darker than the movies

What passed for scary in 1996 is pretty tame by some of today's standards, and Scream the TV series has to play to a horror-savvy, post-Scream audience. The franchise dissected the horror movie genre, and in the same way, Scream the series has to do its own thing or risk looking like it is going through the motions.

Weil told us to expect the series to be darker and bloodier than the 1996 film. "We like to push just a little bit further because the horror genre is on such a kick right now," Weil said. "We are going to lean harder on the darker undertone for sure. That's what's hot right now. It's thrilling and exciting."

2. Scream has a sense of humor

Remember that epic MTV promo that brought cast members from all of MTV's shows together for a bloodbath to introduce viewers to the world of Scream? That's the tone of the show in a nutshell: Deadly with pitch-black humor. "We will continue with the fun, twisted humor that the movies were so famous for," Weil promised. "It's inevitable for the Scream franchise. You sit there and you're like, 'I can't believe I laughed at that, that's awful,' but it's hilarious."

3. Everyone is a suspect

Weil confessed that, in many ways, the actors are as in the dark about the fates of the characters as the audience will be. However, one thing fans can expect is to play the ultimate guessing game when it comes to who the killer(s) is/are. Half the fun will be in trying to figure out the show's twisty narrative.

4. Filming on location helped set the mood

Scream is filmed on location in Louisiana and that means more than just the promise of stunning visuals. The backdrop adds to the atmosphere of the show. Weil and the rest of the cast have had a blast exploring the state in their downtime, but it's what Louisiana brings to the series that impressed Weil the most.

"It's my first time in the South and it's the perfect mix," Weil explained. "It's nice when you need it to be and it can be so creepy when you need it. It's like the perfect place."

5. Getting attached to the characters is inevitable

Just go ahead and give in now because the characters are amazing. You will love them and then your heart will be ripped out. There will be lots of death and double-crossing, but Scream stays rooted in the humanity of the story, like all the best horror. Ultimately, that means your emotions will get a workout, but that is a good thing.

More: Check out this list of scary TV shows that will keep you up at night

6. There's something for everyone

The series is not going to cater to the "throwbackers," as Weil dubbed original fans of the franchise, or newcomers. It has something for everyone. If you loved the movies, go into it knowing the show will pay homage to the tone and style, but it also has to build a world around these characters and reach an audience that didn't exist in 1996. "We will take you on your own, individual journey," Weil promised fans in both camps.

The bottom line is: If you love horror, then Scream is can't-miss summer TV.

Scream premieres Tuesday, June 30 at 10/9c on MTV.

Elena who? The Vampire Diaries Season 7 is bulking up in the deadly vampire dames department with three new characters, two of whom will be the first same-sex couple in the show's history (what has taken the show so long?). TVLine exclusively revealed the scoop on the trio, all of whom sound like they will be up for stirring up some delicious trouble alongside Lily in the new season.

More: If you are still mourning Elena, check out one writer's goodbye to the iconic character

Nora and Mary Louise are lovers who have kept their relationship a secret from all but those closest to them for more than a century. That is a long time for a couple to be together, so it is not surprising that the two hit the occasional bump now and then. Mary Louise can be a bit over-protective sometimes, but anyone who goes after one of these dangerous ladies will have to deal with both of them, and they don't mess around when it comes to keeping each other safe.

The show is also looking for someone to fill the role of Valerie, a sarcastic vamp who is looking for someone to remind her why life is worth living. Maybe she should give Alaric a call? An undead girlfriend may be just what the doctor ordered given how much trouble he's had in the lady department.

More: Chris Wood speaks out about the deadly end of Season 6

Are you excited to see TVD finally introducing a same-sex couple? Do you think these ladies are all part of Lily's family? Get to speculating; we still have way too long to wait before Season 7 gets here.

9 Clever ways to upcycle your dinner party

$

One of my favorite things about Pinterest is the latest "upcycling" trend. On most Pinterest boards, you'll find that upcycling is just a fancy new word for DIY — it means you turn some trash lying around your house into a treasure you can brag to your friends about. And I'm all about that.

Pinterest, and really any social media sharing site, is a goldmine for upcycling ideas. The next time you entertain, try your hand at one of these inventive dinner party hacks (and Pinterest favorites) — dreamt up by creative hosts just like you:

1. Blue jean placemats

Blue jeans

Image: Living Well Spending Less

This very well may be the coolest thing I have seen on Pinterest, especially considering that I live in Texas (yee-haw). Ruth of Living Well Spending Less, mom and DIY maven, says that this project is incredibly easy if you have a few pairs of old jeans lying around and can sew a straight line. If you don't want to or know how to sew, you can leave the placemat edges raw to add a rustic touch to your dinner decor.

2. Coffee can floral arrangement

Coffee can

Image: The Purple Martin

Hang on to that old coffee can before you toss it in the recycling bin. Then, take a few moments to traipse through your backyard and see what nature has to offer. Wrap sticks around the base of the coffee can with burlap or twine and fill with fresh flowers to create an innovative and eye-catching table centerpiece in under five minutes flat.

3. Lightbulb vase

Instagram lightbulb

Instagram lightbulb

Surely, you have a lightbulb lying around the house. Once you get dinner in the oven, pop over to your local craft store to buy a strand of pearl beads and a fake flower, and you have yourself a custom DIY centerpiece. Instagram blogger Someday Shabby calls this her "Light Bulb Moment."

4. Lime place card holders

Place cards

Image: Life Design Events

This fruit-infused upcycle idea is almost too easy. Pin handwritten place cards into any type of citrus fruit to place at table settings. Or, if you are serving dinner buffet style, use lime place cards as decorative and unique labels for each dish.

5. Mason jar candleholders

Instagram mason jar

Instagram mason jar

Great news, everybody. I have at least two dozen Mason jars collecting dust underneath my kitchen sink. According to Jfleeve of Instagram, all I have to do is add a little glitter and insert candles to craft one of the easiest and most beautiful centerpieces known to man.

6. Napkin ring cuffs

Napkin rings

Image: Family Chic

If your significant other has dress shirts to spare, then you've just scored yourself a set of adorable napkin rings for your next dinner party. Camilla Fabbri of Family Chic recommends using shirt cuffs for "simple and instant" napkin rings or even as a cute, decorative sleeve for table wine.

7. Record cake stand

Record cake stand

Use this fantastic idea to put those old records and candlestick holders to use (or hit up your local thrift store). Hot glue records to candlestick holders to create an unexpected dessert serving platter that your friends will still be talking about weeks later.

8. Wine bottle candleholders

Instagram wine bottle

Instagram wine bottle

If you're anything like me, then your recycling bin is absolutely brimming with old wine bottles. Cut one of those babies down (safely), place it atop a tea light candle and set the mood for your intimate five-course dinner. Bagpuss123 of Instagram cautions that practice makes perfect, "It took a lot of trial and error! We used a bottle cutter and then hot and cold water, but it depends on temp of water; many didn't work out."

9. Wine bottle cheese tray

Wine bottle

This dinner party upcycle hack is my favorite of all. Granted, upcycling a wine bottle will require some skill, safety precautions and the use of a kiln. But when you are done, you will have a professional-quality appetizer tray that you can use for delightful dinner parties until the end of time.

Well, it looks like the gods are playing a prank on us today because they have answered our prayers for more time, but they're just giving us a measly extra second.

That's right, at 9.59a.m. AEST, there was an extra second in the minute, in order for the super strict timekeepers to align their clocks to the earth's rotation.

It's called a leap second, and people have been taking to Twitter, as you do, to share how they busied themselves with that all-important extra second.

Kaitlyn Bristowe is scared of one of the guys on The Bachelorette

No, seriously, like ever.

More: Ian isn't the only Bachelorette contestant who disappointed us

I feel like I need to go in a dark room by myself for a while after each episode to regroup before reentering the world. And I'm not even the one dating all of these men.

So I already sympathize in a big way with Season 11 Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe. But I didn't expect her to reveal that she actually feared one of her suitors in her new blog post on People.

The lady handing out the roses explained, "I was scared of Shawn."

But it's not what you think.

"I was worried he wouldn't be able to get through the hardest part of the journey and he would leave. I NEED a strong man, not physically (although it doesn't hurt) but emotionally. I was questioning my decisions and having a tough time understanding my actions and my feelings.

"I don't think you ever go into this experience thinking you're going to feel feelings this deep," Kaitlyn continued. "You want to, and you hope it happens, but you don't necessarily think it will. So how can you prepare yourself? I believe that's what Shawn's struggles were. He didn't expect to feel all the things he was feeling. It's so hard to care about someone and try and let your brain access those feelings in an average relationship. Now imagine adding in that you are trying to accept the person you care about has other relationships happening. It was only human for him to be upset."

More: Chris Soules' latest gig makes us think he's just looking for fame

Shawn definitely took center stage during last night's episode when he and Kaitlyn had a few very long conversations about where their relationship was at. They eventually decided to take a step back since Kaitlyn had overdone it with her attempts at reassurance, basically telling Shawn that she had already decided he was her future husband.

"I challenge anyone to date this many guys and not make mistakes," Kaitlyn wrote. "This was one I made, and it only set him up to get more upset when it came to my other relationships. This is why I understood where Shawn was coming from when being upset."

More: Andi Dorfman blasts Nick Viall on Twitter after The Bachelorette sex scene

There are so many heavy emotions flying this season, it's no wonder she was feeling the need to run away when Shawn came knocking. Luckily for her (and for him), if Kaitlyn's recent Snapchat is any indication, she definitely conquered her Shawn fear.

Check out her full blog post over on People's website.

Do you understand Kaitlyn's actions this season or do you think she was wrong to visit the guys off-camera and give Shawn too much reassurance?
