Brazilian city to fine those who shame breastfeeding moms

$

0

Despite laws that specifically give a woman the right to nurse her baby wherever she is legally allowed to be, breastfeeding harassment continues to be a problem, not only in the U.S., but worldwide. Nearly every day, I read (or write) about a mother who is doing nothing more than feeding her child when an employee or representative of an organization asks her to move, cover up or leave the premises entirely. In nearly every state in the U.S., doing so is against the law.

Breastfeeding harassment isn't unqiue to the U.S., however. It's enough of a problem in São Paulo, the most populous city in the South American country of Brazil, that the mayor is expected to sign this bill into law within the next few weeks. Once the bill is signed into law, violators can be slapped with a fine equivalent to $150.

I love this move. If breaking the law isn't enough of a deterrent, then maybe the addition of a fine will be. There are so many instances of under-trained employees incorrectly harassing breastfeeding moms, and even store owners asking moms to cover up so it doesn't "bother" the other customers, that there should be an additional punishment for illegally confronting a nursing mom.

Breastfeeding a baby is feeding a baby. Just because it's with a boob doesn't mean it's immoral, sexual, improper or akin to urinating, defecating or masturbating. Some moms prefer to nurse in private, but that doesn't mean all moms have to, and if a mom doesn't use a cover, it doesn't mean she isn't modest. Telling a breastfeeding mother to stay home, pump and use bottles or hide out in the bathroom or her car is putting your issues on her.

Nursing a baby in public is actually the best way to normalize it. When children see a mom nursing her baby, they don't think it's a big deal unless the adults they're with think it's a big deal. Also, bothering a nursing mom might not only embarrass or upset her, but it can derail her confidence and make her less likely to nurse in public the next time her baby is hungry. And that, my friends, is wrong.

So bravo, São Paulo, and maybe this will keep people in that city from hassling a mom who is doing nothing more than nourishing her kid, which is how it should be.

And the caption of the picture from the page only fuels the speculation because it reads, "Jessa's Pregnant...............maybe!"

More: Zayn Malik ditches 1D tour: Fans and vicious rumors to blame

In recent weeks there's been a lot of speculation as to whether Malik would be leaving the band or not, and he's dealing with some personal drama, too, having been accused of cheating on fiancée Perrie Edwards. He appeared to deny this on Twitter last week, saying, "I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous f***s in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x."

Taking to the band's official Facebook page on Wednesday, he confirmed the news of his departure, and revealed that his life would be going in a different direction.

"My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight," he wrote.

More: Are One Direction fans right about Zayn Malik's substance abuse?

But just because Malik has decided to leave the boy band does not mean that it's all over. The band confirmed that they would be continuing as a four-piece and look forward to the forthcoming concerts.

Malik then went on to praise his four bandmates and close friends Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson.

"I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world," he said.

The statement also includes comments from the band as a whole who said, "We're really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future." Their manager and mentor Simon Cowell also thanked Malik for everything he has done for the band, and gushed about how proud he is.

Shonda Rhimes reacts perfectly to racist article about 'ethnic casting'

$
0
0

This morning, I was completely and utterly outraged while reading Deadline's piece titled, "Pilots 2015: The Year of Ethnic Castings — About Time or Too Much of a Good Thing?", which was blatantly ignorant and, well, pretty darn racist. Thankfully, the article is now coming under attack from the likes of celebrities like Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder executive producer Shonda Rhimes, who pretty perfectly summed up my feelings on the subject in a tweet:

Shonda Rhimes reaction to racist article

Shonda Rhimes reaction to racist article

The original article quotes various anonymous sources, all of whom are boohoo-hooing over the fact that "only non-Caucasian actors would be considered" for what one talent representative said is "basically 50% of the roles in a pilot."

Now, I don't know what rock these agents are living under, but Hollywood is still heavily underrepresenting minorities. Just because we've had some successes only in the past year doesn't mean the tide has completely turned. And even if there is an actual mandate for half of new TV pilots to have non-white actors, do they know the actual statistics of the population of the United States of America? Let me break it down for you:

The latest estimates from the Census show that white Americans represent 77.7 percent of the population, black or African-Americans 13.2 percent of the population, Asian 5.3 percent of the population, American Indian or Alaska Native 1.2 percent of the population, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander 0.2 percent of the population and Hispanic or Latino 17.1 percent of the population. If you look at this, it would seem the numbers are skewed in Deadline's favor. But the truth of the matter is these numbers aren't necessarily what you think they mean — 2.4 percent of the population reported they are "two or more races" and only 62.2 percent reported they are "white alone, not Hispanic or Latino," meaning there's more than a 15 percent discrepancy in this number and the original 77.7 percent.

As a Latina, I know that many Hispanics (my dad included) report their ethnicity as white on the U.S. Census, completely ignoring the "Hispanic or Latino" category. Even worse, confused Americans change their identity from one census to the next, something the U.S. Census Bureau is trying to address the next time it asks about race and ethnicity.

But forget about all that. Forget that the U.S. population is going to be a very different mix by 2050, with Hispanics, blacks and Asians making up half of the population. Let's forget all that and look at the television landscape today, as Deadline so poorly attempted to do. If we simply look at the television shows currently on air, do we really think minorities are fairly represented? Are we really making up, say, at least 40 percent of castings?

I sincerely doubt so. While the tide may be turning for the 2015-2016 season, it, in no way, indicates there are enough different faces out there. While we may have seen some successes this year with How to Get Away With Murder, Empire, Jane the Virgin, Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat, it, in no way, means this makes up for the countless shows out there that have maybe one black, Latino or Asian character, if they're lucky. The tide may be changing, sure, but we are nowhere near where we need to be in 2015 in terms of fair and accurate representation.

While I am glad to see I'm not the only one who is outraged over Deadline's ridiculous article, it is still upsetting to see a major publication publish — and then not apologize — for this ridiculous piece. My only hope is that so-called "ethnic castings" continue and that the actors I admire (of any color) take this new emphasis on diversity as the great thing it truly is.

One-week career detox to get you back on track

$
0
0

You'll start off slowly by adding only one new task per day. Then each day you'll do the previous day's task plus your new one.

Monday — Schedule some me-time

You read that right. Get up early on Monday and do all those piddly things you normally waste time with when you get to the office. Check Facebook, google Stephen Amell, call your grandma to check on her bunion, read SheKnows (hint, hint), whatever. Just get it all out of the way before you even get ready for work.

Tuesday — Set up your action list

It doesn't matter whether the list is pen and paper or electronic or how you format it, so long as it makes sense to you. I recommend using a notepad you can carry with you or an app you can sync to multiple devices.

What does matter, however, is how you see your tasks. Tony Wong, leading productivity and management consultant to multibillion dollar corporations, says you have to work in the right order. Start with tasks, which lead to milestones, which lead to achieving the ultimate goal.

action-list-example

Wednesday — Eliminate distractions and buckle down

The minute you get to work, pull out your trusty action list. What needs to get done today? That's what you'll be focusing on.

Don't check your email. Yes, I'm serious. Don't even open it. Don't go to the water cooler to chat, don't take phone calls (leave an outgoing message that you're working on a project and will get back to them later, and they should text you for emergencies only).

Find the hardest task on your list that can be done right now, the one you least want to do, and do it from start to finish. Unless the building is on fire, you do nothing else until it's done. Then and only then can you check your email. But after that, it's right back to your task list, doing the most important things first.

To ensure your time is respected, do something to make sure coworkers know you're not available unless it's an emergency. Lock your office door, put up a sign, wear noise-canceling headphones. If you're interrupted for something that isn't urgent, politely explain the situation and put them on your action list.

Thursday — Learn to take breaks

Americans have this notion that in order to get things done, we need to hump it from 9 to 5. Not so. John P. Trougakos, University of Toronto Scarborough and the Rotman School of Management, told The New York Times that your brain's ability to concentrate is similar to a muscle. After sustained use, it can become fatigued and needs rest to recover.

Only work for 60 to 90 minutes at a time, then take a 10-minute break. Walk around the office, have a snack, surf the web. Just do something not related to work.

Friday — Learn to schedule your time

The biggest time-suck during my workday is email. Most people can relate. Schedule some time each day (two or three times) to deal with email, and only check email during that time. Deal with the most important things first, and get rid of stuff you don't need. If your inbox is already out of control, add decluttering your inbox to your task list.

Also set aside a specific block during the day to do the following:

  • Take unexpected meetings with coworkers
  • Return all the phone calls you declined while eliminating distractions
  • Take meetings with potential vendors
  • Anything else that wasn't already on your task list

It's also important that you have a set time each day to handle the little stuff that comes up unexpectedly. When people learn that's your golden hour, they'll learn to approach you then. Even better, it gives you a specific end time so no one can blabber endlessly, and everyone knows they should have a specific agenda when they come to you. Because at the end time, you have to get back to work. You may need two of these blocks if you get a lot of requests, but don't add blocks just to accommodate a couple of people who don't like your first one.

Obviously, you have to be flexible sometimes, and it's OK to cut loose every once in a while, but get yourself back on track as soon as possible.

Blake Shelton's new video is going to cause a yeast infection outbreak (VIDEO)

Now, before I go on, let me say I am not one to turn down relaxing bath time or a tub of wine. Yes, the girl in the video does look hot, and I may or may not have considered a sangria bath myself (it was a quick, passing thought). But people, we're on the verge of a huge epidemic here. You know Shelton's new video will cause a few adventurous ladies to stock up on four-buck chuck, submerge themselves in wine and, consequently, rush to the gyno the next day with inflamed lady parts.

More: New yeast infection pill will make your vagina smell like a peach

Here are the facts: Bathing in a tub full of sangria is most likely not good for your health. First, there's the fact that you could get way too drunk sipping and floating at the same time (plus, I question how sanitary that is), but the major problem is the effect it can have on your precious vagina. According to physician Shilpi Agarwal, "red wine contains alcohol that can dehydrate skin, especially the delicate mucous membranes of the vaginal canal. This type of a bath can also alter the pH levels of the vagina, making women more susceptible to yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis." But wait, it gets worse. "Also, keep in mind that wine can easily stain skin and hair, so if your skin is very fair you may have darkening or pigmenting of vulvar skin and the pubic area. This bath might sound like fun, but you could end up developing vaginal irritation and/or itching so I would not recommend it."

Boom, people! I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.

So sure, indulge yourself by watching the teaser video. Maybe even run a bath for yourself, light some candles and drink a bottle of wine. But please, for the love of your vag, do not swap bath salts for sugary alcohol; then again, if you do, you can tell your friends your yeast infection it's Blake Shelton's fault.

5 Finance facts that will scare you into caring more about the U.S. economy

$
0
0

If you ask the good folks at Gallup, government dissatisfaction and general economic angst rank as our biggest collective concerns. In fact, economic related issues account for 34 percent of our current qualms.

That shouldn't really be a big surprise, considering the Great Recession we're bouncing back from, our startling lack of financial literacy and the financial frothiness percolating abroad. Besides, some aspects of money management are just plain messed up. I'll cover a few of them below so you can rail against reality with a bit more authority in the future!

1. The country is just now jumping on existing credit card fraud technology

The United States has been using magnetic stripe credit cards since the 1960s. Since then, man has been to the moon, the Cold War has ended, four Civil Rights Acts have been enacted, the Berlin Wall has fallen, there have been seven recessions, scores of major retailers have been hacked and the United States has gotten 1.09 degrees hotter, just to name a few things.

Now, in 2015, we are set to join Europe, Canada, many parts of Asia and various other countries around the world in implementing the more secure EMV technology. Hopefully the chip-based credit cards at the center of this system this will help decrease payment fraud rates. It's about time, after all!

2. The higher education costs are astronomical

Four years of tuition, room and board at the average private college costs $169,676. Public schools aren't a whole lot better, coming in at $131,048 for out-of-staters and $75,772 for those who stick closer to home. Any way you cut that, it's quite a chunk of change. It's therefore no surprise that student debt has become such a problem, with borrowers owing more than $1 trillion altogether.

President Obama's plan to mandate free community college for all should help things some. But for those planning a four-year stay on campus definitely need to take your expected return on investment into account when choosing a school, a major and a potential career. In other words, start factoring personal finance into your decision making at an early age. It will really pay off, both in terms of dollars and financial freedom.

3. The loser-pays legal system means corporations always win

The founding fathers of the United States (not to mention the Greek philosophers they studied) were geniuses. There's no getting around it. So much about the structure of the U.S. government is perfect. One aspect of the court system is inherently flawed, however: Civil courts lack a loser-pays doctrine. This means wealthy individuals and large companies can use the courts as a tool for intimidation, bringing flimsy lawsuits knowing that less financially gifted defendants will settle in order to limit their losses. As a result, the United States spends more on tort litigation than any other developed country, roughly $250 billion per year. This ultimately serves as a drain on the economy, stifling growth.

If done right, adopting a loser-pays civil litigation system, as the UK, France, Japan and Canada have done, would dramatically reduce litigious abuse, fueling innovation and cutting down on administrative costs.

4. The tax code is overly complex

Taxes rank as the seventh largest economic issue on the minds of Americans, according to Gallup, and for good reason. Calls for tax reform have been bandied about for years now, both in the consumer and business sectors, and this issue is sure to draw more attention as the 2016 presidential election draws near. The system is a mess, after all, from the myriad possible deductions that are in play to the incentives we give large corporations to divert money offshore.

Something clearly has to change and the odds are that will happen in the relatively near future. But until then, we can continue to look at the tax code as one of the most messed-up aspects of personal finance.

5. Income inequality in the country keeps growing

The highest 1 percent in the United States makes roughly 3,315 percent more per year than the bottom 90 percent. That's more than 33 times as much! And that's just not fair. There is no reason for a select few to enjoy a spoil of riches while your Average Joe is struggling. The issue is obviously on the minds of the federal government, as evidenced by the last couple State of the Union addresses, and it better be on the radar of regulators in states like Florida, West Virginia, Vermont, Alaska and Hawaii, which were found by a recent WalletHub study to have the biggest problems with income inequality in the country.

If I've bummed you out, I apologize. But at least you know now what you shouldn't have to put up with when it comes to your money. So write your Congressman, call up Gallup or start a petition, and let's begin making things better in the world of personal finance.

Like voting? Driving? Sorry babe, you're a feminist (VIDEO)

"And sitting there, with no ironic intent whatsoever, wanting their voices to be heard and taken seriously during their interview, just so they can be heard to say they aren't feminists," she says about her inspiration behind her new hilarious video, Sorry Babe, You're a Feminist.

She even names names. The video opens with quotes from various celebs who have said in interviews that they don't consider themselves to be feminists, including Katy Perry, Björk, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Demi Moore.

"What on Earth are you picturing?" she sings. "Castrating men while wearing sensible shoes?"

Sorry babe youre a feminist

Sorry babe youre a feminist

She tells millennial women in the song that she's glad they feel empowered, but they have feminists to thank for their rights.

"Just take a look at the checklist," she sings on. "You like voting? Driving? You're a feminist!"

And she points out that being a feminist doesn't mean you hate men, which is a tired old stereotype about feminism. The proof: Men are feminists too.

The performance and the song, written by Goodman and Soren Kisiel, makes a really good point — that despite best efforts, young women don't seem to know what feminism really is. Once they understand the sacrifices that were made by women before them to secure women's basic rights, maybe they'll feel a little differently about the whole deal. Let's hope. We need all the feminists we can get.

And regarding the popular argument that although we needed feminism in the past, we don't anymore, Goodman offers this harsh reality check.

"Post anything opinionated on the web without death threats from a misogynist dick head."

Get on the right side of feminism, not just because equal rights matter, but because of who else says they aren't a feminist — the Taliban. You want to be on the same team as the Taliban? See? You're a feminist.

This video is a smart and hilarious opener to a conversation that needs to happen among women. Nice job, Katie and Soren.

Rad mom draws emotional superheroes to show her son it's OK to cry

So the 29-year-old Swedish mother created an entire coloring book showing 10 superheroes expressing a full range of emotions instead of just anger and aggression. She calls it Super Soft Heroes.

Super Soft Heroes

Image: Linnéa Johansson

"Boys learn from their role models to act tough and aggressive and that showing vulnerability or emotion is equivalent to being weak or 'being a girl' (which is considered an insult in today's society)," she wrote on her blog. "They are taught through these role models to 'man up' and that 'boys don’t cry.'"

Super Soft Heroes

Image: Linnéa Johansson

So Johansson set out to show her son in terms he could understand and appreciate that boys not only cry, but sometimes they wear a dress. And that doesn't make them any more or less a man or a hero.

Super Soft Heroes

Image: Linnéa Johansson

"When my three years old son stopped crying because none of his heroes do, I had to take action because I think this is (excuse me) bullshit," she explains about the inspiration behind the coloring book project. "I decided to draw ten soft super heroes and then strong princesses, just to give the kids some alternatives."

Super Soft heroes

Image: Linnéa Johansson

But Johansson doesn't just redefine what it means to "man up" — she even assures us that superheroes poop.

Super Soft Heroes

And that baking isn't just for girls. Even the toughest men enjoy a little time in the kitchen.

Super Soft Heroes

The passion project to show her son to not be afraid to express emotion seems to have worked like a charm.

"I think I caught him in exactly the moment when he was about to close up," she told Buzzfeed. "Hopefully I kept his door a little open."

Bravo, Linnéa. Up next, she says, is a series of strong princesses, and we can't wait to see what she comes up with.

Ex-RHOM star’s excuse for breaking is the law is just ridiculous

$

0

Quincoces was down in the Florida Keys, according to Keys Info Net, where she has apparently been spending enough time for the local sheriffs to get to know her.

During a domestic disturbance call to her ex-husband's house, in which she allegedly barged in searching for his new girlfriend, the former lawyer-turned-cookbook-author was explicitly told by authorities that she was not to drive because her license had been suspended indefinitely.

Well, she was spotted behind the wheel of her vehicle, just hours later that same day, by the same officer who told her not to drive.

The officer then pulled her over and took her into custody, charging her with the misdemeanor of driving with a suspended license.

But it was the excuse the former The Real Housewives of Miami star gave that is hilarious and ridiculous. Quincoces has now come out saying the reason she got back behind the wheel, mere hours after authorities told her not to, was she was fleeing a house infested by cockroaches.

She has claimed she was staying in a home that has been listed by a real estate agent friend in Key Largo, but found when she got there that the home was full of cockroaches, and she just wanted to return to her home in Coral Gables. She claimed "she didn't realize" her license was suspended and that it is a "computer glitch" and also said the officers were being "overzealous."

Having gotten into a spat with the ex and the ex's new flame just hours earlier, this sounds less like cockroaches and computer errors and more like a pissed off woman just wanting to get out of Dodge.

Paleo honey bacon-wrapped chicken bites are easy and delicious

$
0
0

I decided to take organic chicken breast and wrap it in a strip of all-natural, nitrate-free bacon, then lightly brush it with raw organic honey and grill it up for a filling treat.

These little honey bacon chicken bites are perfect finger foods for entertaining or for an easy, bite-size, kid-friendly snack or meal. If you don't feel like firing up the grill, then simply follow the directions, and instead of grilling, place the bites on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees F or until the chicken and bacon are cooked and juices run clear.

Paleo honey bacon-wrapped chicken bites recipe

Organic chicken breast is diced, wrapped in all-natural bacon and given a light coating of honey for sweetness, then grilled to perfection for a paleo and gluten-free dish.

Yields 16

Prep time: 20 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes | Total time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large organic chicken breasts
  • 8 slices all-natural, nitrate-free bacon (I used Applegate Farms brand)
  • 1/4 cup raw organic honey
  • Fresh cracked pepper and sea salt, to taste
  • Fresh chopped parsley, for garnish
  • Hot sauce, for serving (optional)

Directions:

  1. On a cutting board, dice each chicken breast into 4 large, bite-size chunks.
  2. Cut each slice of bacon in half for a total of 16 pieces of bacon.
  3. Carefully wrap 1 slice of bacon around 1 piece of chicken, and set aside until all the bites are prepared.
  4. Heat a grill pan to medium heat, and spray it with nonstick cooking spray.
  5. Grill the chicken bites several at a time (but not crowding the grill pan). Cook the bites for 5 to 6 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. Once all the bites are grilled, place them on a serving platter, and garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
  7. Serve as is or with any type of sauce, if desired, such as hot sauce, barbecue sauce, ketchup, honey mustard or aioli.

Cara Delevingne won't be playing the sexy girlfriend on screen

$

"Every movie I’ve done I’ve had to fight for lines and fight for point of view," Delevingne told TimeOut. "Usually it's a male director, male producers. It's all very much a man’s point of view. I speak up and say 'Girls don't do that.' Or 'That's not something a girl would say in that situation.' It's about how men perceive women and it's not accurate and it annoys me! I don't think people speak up enough. Even if I'm wrong, even if I get shut down, I know that I've done my part to get a woman's voice out there. It's important that when girls watch movies they've got strong female role models."

This is the kind of attitude we need young female actresses to have. Feisty and ambitious but dedicated to creating female characters that are authentic, relevant and inspiring.

Time will tell whether Delevingne's acting career is as lucrative as her modelling one. Acting is actually her first love (at 17 she was very close to landing the lead role in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, a part that went to Mia Wasikowska) but she was spotted by a model scout and we all know what happened next. Despite her hugely successful modelling career she says of her childhood ambitions, "All I knew was that I wanted to act and I wanted to do music."

Delevingne stars in The Face of an Angel, which opens in U.K. cinemas this weekend, but the project everyone's buzzing about is the upcoming film adaptation of Paper Towns, written by The Fault in Our Stars author John Green. Perhaps it will be the film to establish the 22-year-old as a bona fide actress — and help her continue her fight against typecasting.

3-Cheese garlic bread sandwiches are the grilled cheese you need to try

$

As I make my rounds in the grocery store, I always end up in the bakery. Not because I want to dive into the doughnut case, but because I love freshly baked loaves of bread. Picking up a loaf of fresh bread is a godsend at times, since it can be used in so many different ways and recipes.

This recipe uses a loaf of French (or Italian) bread, which is halved and generously smeared with a homemade butter mixture loaded with sea salt, crushed garlic and fresh parsley. Top the butter with shredded cheeses, and once baked, sandwich the two halves together, cut into slices, and serve with warm, zesty marinara sauce for the ultimate garlic bread grilled cheese.

This idea is perfect for a simple lunch for your kids or even as a finger food for entertaining. The only bad part about this is that it never lasts long, so you might want to consider making a second loaf.

Toasted 3-cheese garlic bread sandwiches with zesty marinara dipping sauce recipe

Fresh French bread is filled with a garlicky butter mixture and topped with three types of cheese. Baked and sliced, these little sandwiches are perfect for dipping in marinara sauce.

Serves 8-10

Prep time: 25 minutes | Bake time: 15 minutes | Total time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

For the garlic bread sandwich

  • 1 loaf fresh French- or Italian-style bakery bread
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4-5 cloves roasted garlic
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (omit if you don't want spiciness)
  • 1 small handful fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the zesty marinara dipping sauce

  • 1-1/2 cups favorite jarred marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasonings
  • 1 tablespoon agave
  • 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a large cutting board, slice the entire loaf of fresh bread in half.
  3. In a food processor, combine the butter, roasted garlic, seasonings and parsley, adding the desired amount of salt and pepper, to taste.
  4. Blend on high until the butter mixture is smooth and creamy.
  5. Using a spatula, spread the butter mixture generously over both halves of the bread.
  6. To a bowl, add the 3 cheeses, and toss lightly to mix. Top both pieces of bread with the cheeses, and bake uncovered for 13 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden. While the bread is baking, add all the ingredients for the zesty marinara to a bowl, and mix well.
  7. Remove the bread from the oven, and sandwich both halves together. Slice into pieces, and serve warm with the marinara sauce.

Woody Allen allegedly tried to seduce a teen, and that's not the worst part

$

The movie star and Woody Allen's costar in the 1979 movie Manhattan realized almost too late that the then-44-year-old director was trying to whisk her away to Europe so he could sleep with her.

Hemingway, the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, was 18 years old at the time and was hosting Allen at her parents' Idaho home when she slowly came to the realization that everyone around her was pushing for her platonic relationship with Allen to become something more before she brilliantly shut it down.

Mariel Heminway

She writes in her upcoming biography, Out Came the Sun, "…I started to see that he had kind of a crush on me, though I dismissed it as the kind of thing that seemed to happen any time middle-aged men got around young women."

Pause. That is a terrifying sentiment to begin with, but it gets so much worse.

Continue.

She writes that she tried to explain the situation to her parents, saying, "I didn't know what the arrangement was going to be, that I wasn't sure if I was even going to have my own room [in Paris]. Woody hadn't said that. He hadn't even hinted it. But I wanted them to put their foot down. They didn't. They kept lightly encouraging me."

So, she took matters into her own hands. She explains that she was so innocent at the time she was even embarrassed to talk about sex on camera. But she said she woke in the middle of the night, "with certain knowledge that [she] was an idiot. No one was going to get their own room. His plan, such as it was, involved being with [her]." So she went into his room while he was sleeping, woke him and asked, "I'm not going to get my own room, am I?" Then she told him, "I can't go with you to Paris."

Like. A. Boss.

He left the next morning.

More: Woody Allen says Mia Farrow's anger poisoned daughter

Remarkable, brazen, unquestionably disturbing, yet Hemingway displays a boldness I don't even think she seemed to be aware she had at the time, but it wouldn't be the only instance she had to use it.

Hemingway casts a light on the "casting couch" culture in Hollywood, "revealing a series of leading men and directors who hit on her."

She chronicles being literally chased around couches by men she worked with trying to have sex with her while continually hurling rejections. These stories appear to be only a few of the many lurid tales of the chauvinistic business in which she has lived most of her life.

Read more about the details of her long-ago encounter with Allen and about more indiscreet and unwanted advances by Hollywood men on Page Six.
