Huge recall of IKEA crib mattresses

$
0
0

Heads up — around 169,000 IKEA VYSSA mattresses have been recalled because they may not be quite long enough, which poses a risk of your baby getting trapped in a gap.

Product description: This recall focuses on IKEA VYSSA style crib mattresses. The following five model names are included in this recall: VACKERT, VINKA, SPELEVINK, SLÖA and SLUMMER. The included mattresses were manufactured on May 4, 2014 or earlier. You can find an identification label, which is attached to the mattress cover, and has the date of manufacture in "Month-DD-YYYY" format along with the VYSSA model name. A gap between the mattress and crib ends larger than two finger width tells you if you have a defective mattress.

Where/when they were sold: These recalled IKEA crib mattresses were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online at www.ikea-usa.com from August 2010 to May 2014 for about $100.

Reason for the recall: The crib mattresses could create a gap between the mattress and crib ends that are larger than allowed by federal regulations. There have been two reports of babies being trapped by the mattress gap. Both were removed without injury.

What you need to do: If you have a VYSSA style crib mattress, check to see if there is a gap at the end of the mattress. Any gap that is two finger widths or more is considered defective and must be removed from the crib immediately and returned to the store for an exchange or full refund.

Company information: You can contact IKEA toll-free at (888) 966-4532 anytime. You can also find out more information online at www.ikea-usa.com — click on the recall link at the top of the page for more information.

Ariana Grande, Madonna, AC/DC, Ed Sheeran and Eric Church are all confirmed to hit the stage at the music awards show, which will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 8.

Madonna is, of course, an awards show veteran. Her performance at this year's show will mark her fifth Grammy performance. She joined Macklemore and Ryan Lewis last year for their performance of "Same Love" and "Open Your Heart."

Madonna first teased that she would be performing on Monday night, when she tweeted a picture of her "Rebel Heart" artwork together with a Grammy Award.

We definitely think the Grammys announcement of these initial performers was an obvious strategic play to pique interest, since each performer captures a different audience but still represents someone who is at the very top of their field.

Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran and Eric Church are all nominated for awards this year. Madonna's new album, Rebel Heart, will be released shortly following the show on Mar. 10. And AC/DC's performance will give us our first glimpse of the group since their LP, Rock or Bust, was released. It will also be a key moment to see how the band will handle the fate of drummer, Phil Rudd, who has been charged with drug possession and threatening to kill in New Zealand. He is due back in court on Feb. 10, just two days after the Grammys, according to Rolling Stone.

The Vampire Diaries: We're worried about the Delena hookup

More: The Originals' Joseph Morgan interview — good news for Klaroline fans

After calling off their long-term relationship back in the summer of 2013, the two appeared to be amicable and even spoke publicly about remaining friends. But all of that seemed to shatter this season when Somerhalder moved on to a quickly serious relationship with Nikki Reed.

Rumors of jealousy and hurt feelings have plagued the set since, and it's shown through in their characters' chemistry on the show. It's been a bit rough. Luckily, we've had Caroline and Stefan's will-they-or-won't-they tension to pick up the slack. Still, there's a noticeable discontent between Elena and Damon that doesn't just have to do with her memory loss.

It seems like things are only going to get more confusing on the show, because executive producer, Julie Plec, confirmed to E! News, "I can tell you that the hookup is... people who like rain will be very happy."

More: You know you're stoked about more The Flash and Jane the Virgin

In other words, Elena will be running back into Damon's arms after Kai's pesky invisibility spell is lifted. Damon and Elena shared a kiss in the rain in Episode 7 of this season when we saw flashbacks of the beginning of Damon and Elena's relationship.

And I'm definitely nervous by this notion of the two of them hitting the sack together.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an all-out Delena shipper. Those two better end up together, otherwise I'm all for Elena ending up by herself to go explore the world or something.

But, for one, I kinda feel bad for these actors. I sure know that I would have a really rough time pretending to sleep with one of my exes, no matter how long ago we broke up. That's just weird!

More: The Vampire Diaries' best and worst couples

And second, given that even their chemistry scenes seem forced, I can only imagine how much faking it is going to be involved in an actual love scene. It's not like they're going to go have coffee to bond before they film. I doubt Reed would be up for that, and the two costars are reportedly hanging on by the threads of their contracts as it is.

Despite all the tension, it was confirmed that The Vampire Diaries has been renewed for another season. It seems like The CW is keeping its fingers crossed that these two actors will be able to figure out their onscreen romance, if not their personal life, just like the rest of us.

The Vampire Diaries returns Jan. 22 on The CW.

Do you think Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev can sell a love scene on The Vampire Diaries despite their on-set tension?

And then, things changed. Bodies changed and suddenly exercise turned into a battle against our bodies — and one against the picture-perfect bodies splashed all over Instagram and Pinterest.

But what if exercise evolved from a punishment for all those extra calories over the holidays into an expression of our natural athletic abilities?

Sport England is setting out to do just that with its new campaign "This Girl Can" that aims to "inspire women to wiggle, jiggle, move" and find joy in exercise "no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets."

No judgment allowed.

This Girl Can

This Girl Can

The video for This Girl Can is an extremely inspiring, showing women of all ages, ethnicity and sizes doing amazing things with their bodies in the pool, gym and on the field. And they look genuinely happy.

Our bodies truly are perfect just the way they are — and this video proves it. So, what are you going to do to show the world you can? I'm about to hit the weight room and show that yeah, I can throw some weight around.

And like the video says... damn right I'm hot, jiggly bits and all.

The Glee actress was a guest cohost on Tuesday's episode of The View, where she shared a theory that has Twitter users slamming her for being racist: She says daily showers are "a white people thing."

Rivera made the comment after cohost, Nicolle Wallace, admitted she showers multiple times each day.

"I have a theory about showering, which is I think that white people shower a lot more than ethnics," Rivera joked. "I think that, like, showering more than once a day or every day is such a white people thing."

She continued, saying about her husband of six months, Ryan Dorsey, "I'm now married to a white man and he showers a lot. Like a lot. Like two, three times a day. I'm like, 'What are you doing?'"

Rivera went on to say that dermatologists recommend that all people shower once or twice every three days, which puts her "right on the mark." She also said that her own mother, who is black and Puerto Rican, showers every day.

Razzies 2015: Find out the worst films of the year

More: Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill breaks Razzie record

The awards, which launched in 1980 to spoof Hollywood by giving awards to the worst movies, directors, actors and more each year, announced their finalists in all categories Tuesday, and the list looks about how we expected it would.

Transformers: Age of Extinction nabbed the most nominations, including Worst Movie, Worst Sequel, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Combo, Worst Director for Michael Bay, Worst Supporting Actress for Nicola Peltz and Worst Supporting Actor for Kelsey Grammer, according to CBS — seven awards all up.

Grammer also picked up three other nominations: Worst Supporting Actor in The Expendables 3, Legends of Oz and Think Like a Man Too.

More: Razzie Awards winners — Kim Kardashian, Will Smith and more

Other flicks that netted the highest numbers of nominations included Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas and The Legend of Hercules at six nods each.

The winners will be selected by online votes from 757 Razzies members, CBS reports. The winners of the 35th annual Razzie Awards will be announced Feb. 21, the night before the Oscars. While the Razzies are generally not as well-attended as other award shows (for obvious reasons), a handful of stars have made appearances in the past to accept their trophies. Whether any of this year's nominees will be there is anyone's guess.

The full list of nominees will be released Wednesday, but here's what we know so far:

Nominees for Worst Picture include Transformers: Age of Extinction, Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas, Left Behind, The Legend of Hercules and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Nominees for Worst Actor include Kirk Cameron and Kellan Lutz.

Nominees for Worst Screen Combo include Kirk Cameron and his ego in Saving Christmas; Seth MacFarlane and Charlize Theron in A Million Ways To Die in the West; any two robots, actors or robotic actors in Transformers; Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel in Sex Tape; and Lutz and his abs, pecs and glutes in The Legend of Hercules.

More: Sandra Bullock accepts both Oscar and Razzie

Nods for a new category for actors who redeemed themselves after receiving Razzies in the past went to Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Mike Myers, Keanu Reeves and Kristen Stewart.

DIY this notorious face luminizer for truly glowing skin

So I looked at its ingredients and what I saw told me that this was a product that could be easily DIY-ed for much cheaper. The ingredient list is short and consists of castor oil, coconut oil, beeswax, rosemary extract and mica.

Here's what you'll need to recreate your own living luminizer:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Supplies

  • Beeswax (pellets melt faster! I got mine at Whole Foods)
  • Rosemary essential oil extract (this will help to stabilize and preserve oils)
  • Coconut oil
  • Loose shimmer pigment or shimmery Champagne eyeshadow
  • Clean mascara wand or spoolie if you'll be creating a pigment from a pressed shadow
  • Glass bowls
  • Measuring spoons
  • Clean container (I'm using an empty sample-size night cream jar)
  • *I'm skipping castor oil in this recipe, preferring to just use coconut oil only.

Directions:

Step 1:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 1

First, place a heaping 1/2 tablespoon of beeswax pellets into a glass bowl and microwave for 2 minutes until fully melted.

Step 2:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 2

Next, melt 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. It takes about 30 seconds in the microwave.

Step 3:

Now evenly mix your melted beeswax and coconut oil together. Do this immediately as the liquids tend to harden quickly.

Step 4:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 4

To create your shimmer powder from a pressed shadow, scrape a clean mascara wand across the surface until you've accumulated about a tablespoon or more of loose pigment. You will need much more shimmer than you think you will.

Step 5:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 5

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 6

Now add your shimmer powder to your beeswax and coconut oil mixture and whisk together with a spoon or plastic fork. I am using disposable plastic utensils for simple cleanup. Don't ruin your nice silverware!

Step 6:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 6

Add 2-3 drops of rosemary extract to your mixture.

Step 7:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 7

Now slowly pour into your chosen container. Let cool. You don't really need to place this in the refrigerator as the wax and oil solidify fairly quickly on their own.

Step 8:

DIY Cream Luminizer: Step 8

Now your luminizer is ready to apply to cheekbones, eyelids, lips and anywhere you want a glow. It applies best with fingertips as it warms the product and helps it to glide on, but feel free to use a synthetic brush too!

2 Chainz debates with Nancy Grace about pot legalization — yes, really (VIDEO)

More: Nancy Grace on Conrad Murray: God's gonna get him

Tuesday's episode of Nancy Grace was actually titled "#Pot2Blame." It actually featured rapper 2 Chainz. And 2 Chainz actually debated with Nancy Grace about whether legalizing marijuana is bad for kids.

"You say that there are reasonable people that can smoke pot, use pot and they won't involve their children — nobody else is going to get hurt," Grace said, showing videos of parents forcing their kids to smoke marijuana. "But what about these people?"

More: Nancy Grace knows you hate her

2 Chainz responded, "It's the same thing we talked about earlier, darling. With the legalization of alcohol, you will find some footage like this, but everybody is not doing this. Some people actually love their child. Some people know that it's obviously wrong. So, this is nothing to really argue about. These people are obviously imbeciles. You can't use this case to define an entire community."

Grace mentioned during the segment that 2 Chainz graduated from college with a 4.0 grade-point average. She also says she doesn't condemn medical pot users — just recreational. But 2 Chainz has an argument for that, too — he says it's a drain on the criminal justice system, and his own brush with the law shows it.

"For me, I'm a taxpayer," he said. "My bus get pulled over, and they say they smell weed, like they do all the time. They find a grinder on my bus that has .01 of residue inside of it. OK? They lock me up, they strip me, then they find out I'm a rapper, and they wanna know how fine is Nicki Minaj. They wanna take pictures, and they wanna let me go. They obviously charge me with .01, I go to court, I go to trial, and then they say, 'Do you pack your own bags? Is this your grinder?' I tell them no. Well, they find out my security does it, they drop my case, and then they pick it up on my security, who obviously beats the case. If that's not a waste of taxpayers' time and money, I don't know what it is."

You can check out the full video below. Seriously, you have to see it to believe it.

How to raise a strong, independent woman without breaking her spirit

$

Encourage independent play

Does anyone else find it hard to let their children play without constantly getting involved? My preplanned arts and crafts, letter and number games and "workbooks" are often over the top. I find it easier to teach than to sit, and most of the time my daughter loves it. Except sometimes she just wants to put on her tutu and play in her pretend kitchen. In those moments, I am learning to let her be and get something else done, like clean the kitchen, fold the laundry, make dinner — whatever is on the list. I know independent play promotes imagination, builds self-confidence and allows her to practice new developmental skills, but the mommy guilt is still there. This generation (myself included) needs to take a step away from Pinterest and remind ourselves what being a kid is all about.

Lead by example

There is no better way to raise a strong, independent woman than to practice being one yourself. Stop belittling yourself. If you think your daughter doesn't notice, you're wrong. Every time you call yourself fat, ugly, weak or not smart enough, it sets a precedent for who your daughter will believe she is. After all, you are her hero, and if you aren't good enough, then neither is she.

Let them fail, but support them when they do

A little competition never hurt anyone. In fact, I strongly believe it's important in teaching determination, perseverance, goal-setting and working hard for what you want. However, not all psychologists agree with this way of thinking. Some studies show the importance of competition, while others show no benefit at all. What we all can agree on is that winning and losing are a part of life that you can't shelter your child from forever, so why even try? Taking competition out of the mix will only serve as culture shock for them when they grow up and don't always succeed. It's how you deal with the competition that matters. Instead of focusing on winning, focus on what is important — their effort. Teach them to respect the process by always giving it their best and trying hard. If they win, it's just a bonus. If they lose, then you'll still be there to offer hugs and kisses and kind words.

Teach them early the tools to cope with their emotions

As a physician in student health at a university, this one really hits home for me, as many young adults do not have the coping skills they so desperately need. Emotional intelligence — or understanding one's emotions — is something children should be taught at a young age. Anxious? This is what it looks like, and this is how you cope with it. Sad? It's OK to feel this way sometimes, but here are ways to boost your mood.

How this begins is by first keeping your own emotions in check. If your child sees you always scream when you're angry or sob uncontrollably when you're sad, don't expect any different from them. Temper tantrums are actually just children trying to deal with their big, scary emotions. Expressing emotions is an important part of emotional intelligence, but our children need to learn the correct way to express them. Put a word to what they're feeling, speak softly, and give hugs, but still set very firm limits. Teach them that yelling and screaming when they're angry is not a way to cope. Try to dig more deeply into why they are angry. "I know you're sad because you were having fun playing and you don't want to go, but it's time to head home where we can play some more. Maybe we can come back to play here another day. Would that be fun?"

Check out this site from Caring for Kids on nurturing your child's mental health. If you are concerned your child has a mental health problem, then speak with your physician.

Be there for them when they truly need it

Remember, even strong, independent adults need a support system to be at their best. Show your children that you're there for them, you support them and you believe in them. A child should never feel like they aren't good enough. Your love should be unconditional, and they should not have to question it. Independence is created by letting your child climb high without having to look back to make sure you're there if they miss a step.

I remember being in university when it hit me — everyone around me was worried their parents would be angry if they didn't do well. However, if I did poorly, I would not disappoint anyone except myself. It was not that my parents didn't care; in fact, it was the exact opposite. I was never worried I wouldn't do well enough for them, and yet I aimed for the top anyway. I was my biggest critic, and my parents were my biggest supporters. They believed I could, and they comforted, not scolded, when I fell short. This is what I want for my daughter: for her to know I will love her no matter what and to aim for success anyway.

22 Raw diet recipes that taste positively incredible

$

Just a fair warning: You need to make sure you're getting enough iron, calcium and protein, because these are typically found in meats, fish, dairy products and eggs, which you won't be consuming. When you think raw diet, think uncooked, organic, whole foods. You'll need to stock your fridge and pantry with raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. You might want to start sprouting your own seeds as well.

Depending on how extreme you are, you might completely forget about fish, although some raw dieters consume raw fish (sashimi style). Basically you're wanting your food to always stay below 118 degrees F — anything above that would not be considered raw. A perk of this is that you can definitely use dehydrators to make bars and snacks as well as fruit leathers, since those don't get hot enough. We've lined up a list of some amazing raw recipes that won't have you starving by dinnertime. (Remember, before starting any new diet, talk to your doctor.)

Balloon message for deceased father

Balloon message for deceased father

A man leaving a restaurant found a deflated balloon in his path, and when he went inside to ask where the trash can was, a woman noticed writing on its sides. "Happy birthday dad," the balloon reads. "I will always be your little girl, dad. Don't forget that I miss you." They soon realized that it was a message from a young girl to her father, who was deceased.

They were able to track her down and they discovered that she lived in a town in southern California. This was around 400 miles away from where the balloon landed in Auburn, which is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area. Restaurant owner Lisa Swisley said that there is a lot of open space between the two locations, and she feels that it came down near her business for a reason.

When she understood what they had found, she became emotional, and was inspired to put together a care package for the girl. She asked for donations through Facebook and will continue to do so until she ships the package this upcoming weekend, when she plans to send it to her school in Whittier, California.

Swisley said that in the letter penned on the sides of the star-shaped balloon, the bereaved girl asked for a sign. She hopes the package will be something that gives her some peace, and lets her know that people are thinking about her from far away.

Let's have some real talk. There are rumors floating around that pregnant women just don't like sex. They are likely to lean toward argument number one: You got me into this mess in the first place. Just let me lie here, pregnant and uncomfortable, in peace without trying to slip me a little something.

I have to confess that on my worst days during both of my pregnancies, this is how I felt. As stereotypical as it may be, I wanted a foot rub, or else I didn't want to be touched at all. But for many, many other pregnant ladies, this is not the case.

According to one titillating Reddit thread, there are women who never felt better than when they were sexy and pregnant. Here are a few reasons pregnant sex is a great idea:

1. Better flexibility

Flexibility

Reddit says: "We had some of the best sex during pregnancy — I was more limber as my ligaments stretched. As I said above, I was wet almost all of the time — my need for sex turned my husband on greatly."

2. Increased sensitivity

Austin Powers

Reddit says: "Other than having more blood flow/engorgement than usual, it didn't feel too different for me. In fact, I felt more sensitive than when I wasn't pregnant (in a good way)."

3. Induce labor

Reddit says: "Both of my sons were born within eight hours of coital relations."

4. Last chance

Rihanna

Reddit says: "Remember that women aren't allowed to have sex for 4-6 weeks usually after delivery, so you might want to stock up before you can't anymore, and if it's your first, it might be quite a while before you'll get into a routine again, if ever."

5. Make baby happy

Hmm

Reddit says: "Apparently, baby even likes the rocking motions and feel-good hormones from orgasm, according to my doctor."

6. Take advantage of feeling great in the second trimester

Reddit says: "Second trimester sex is AWESOME."

7. That sexy baby belly

Reddit says: "Many people (including men you've never met who suddenly think they can spontaneously caress your belly) find pregnant bellies very sexy."

8. The doctor said so

Tim Curry

Reddit says: "When my wife was pregnant, I could not keep her off of me. She stayed very in the mood all the time. The doctor even recommended we have sex often, and once we got close to the due date, they wanted us doing it every day."

9. Those raging pregnancy hormones

JLo

Reddit says: "My wife got so horny during her pregnancy. She wanted to have sex all of the time."

10. Try new positions

Reddit says: "Me and my wife had sex more frequently during her pregnancy. She was insatiable… We both loved pregnant sex, it caused us to experiment with new positions that were comfortable and still got the job done for both of us."

The flu shot may have been a dud this year, but you should still get it

Vaccination against the flu reduces risk of hospitalization and saves lives

When the flu vaccine is a good or even decent match, it works extremely well at preventing serious illness and even death. Pregnant women are advised to get it, as it can protect women and their babies for up to six months after delivery. This can reduce hospital admissions for flu-related illnesses in infants by a whopping 92 per cent. In kids, the flu shot has been found to reduce pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admissions for flu-related hospitalizations by as much as 74 per cent. It was also shown to decrease flu-related hospitalization in adults by 71 per cent and by 77 per cent in older adults (50 and older) during the 2011-2012 flu season.

One of the most interesting statistics is that flu vaccination has been associated with lower rates of cardiac events in people with pre-existing cardiac disease, lower rates of hospitalization in patients with diabetes (79 per cent reduction) and in patients with chronic lung disease (52 per cent reduction). Although one study showed that 1 death was prevented for every 4,000 people vaccinated, many other outcomes need to be considered. Hospitalization often marks the beginning of a decline in the elderly, and so although the flu shot might not directly prevent their death, it might prevent the decline leading to their death.

Getting the flu shot can help protect those around you who are at high risk

If you're not going to get it for yourself, then get it for your 2-month-old niece, who is too young to be immunized yet is at high risk of serious complications, or your 84-year-old grandmother with heart disease. Flu shots work best at preventing the flu in young, healthy adults. If everyone around the person at risk is protected against the flu, then that person is less likely to get it as well. This is called "herd immunity."

So, you might be asking, is the flu shot completely useless for the elderly themselves to get? Absolutely not. Those 65 years and older are at highest risk for serious complications from the flu. Not only does the flu shot decrease their chances of getting the flu, but if they do get it, there is a better chance their flu symptoms will be less aggressive than if they didn't get the shot in the first place.

Even if you get the flu, the shot will likely decrease its severity

If someone who has been vaccinated against the flu still gets it, their symptoms might be milder than those who don't. This might reduce the risk of hospitalization, morbidity (such as heart attacks, pneumonia, short-term disability and the need for nursing home care) and mortality. So although you might be upset that you got the shot and still got the flu, imagine what it would be like if you hadn't gotten vaccinated at all.

The flu shot may increase your non-specific immunity

There are two types of immunity: non-specific (inflammation and the immediate response of the immune system to a virus or bacteria) and specific (protection against a very specific bacteria or virus). If you believe children should get dirty once in a while to build up their immune systems, then you should believe in vaccinations. Vaccinations provide exposure to pathogens, which is known to build up specific immunity against what you are vaccinating against (such as the specific flu viruses chosen that year). However, vaccinations might also increase non-specific immunity in the long run, thus making your first-line defences stronger as well.

Right now we need a reminder more than ever that the flu shot saves lives. It is not worth the risk. Protect yourself and your family — get the shot.

Breastfeeding mom forced to shut down her farmers market booth

In a Facebook post explaining that she was being forced to close down her booth, Holt shared the inspector's concerns. "I would not allow you to breast feed and then serve customers throughout the day," the inspector wrote. "The food safety concern is contamination of food through possible throw up and or feces coming from the baby." Holt was told that she could breastfeed in her booth as long as someone else handled all food from that point forward. This is impossible for Holt, who runs the business herself. It's also completely ludicrous to insist that breastfeeding a child causes a health concern.

Farmer's market booth

Farmer's market booth

Holt, who has been food-safety certified, insists that any kind of contamination isn't an issue. Nova Scotia Food Safety Regulations don't mention breastfeeding as a concern, but Holt still takes enormous precautions as anyone handling food would. She covers her clothes with a receiving blanket while she nurses. She washes her hands frequently at a nearby washing station. She even wears gloves when handling food in her booth.

We've learned to live with the fact that people handling our food have likely recently pooped. Why is breastfeeding and then selling dry goods suddenly gross?

The fact that Holt was singled out is nothing short of breastfeeding discrimination. Other small business owners handling food can use the bathroom freely, and are trusted to wash their hands appropriately. Holt says she's noticed other booth owners handling money and then handling food without gloves. Nursing a baby isn't the equivalent of rubbing feces or vomit all over the place. It's a sanitary act that Holt is clearly comfortable with.

She has every right to have her baby with her in her booth, and shouldn't have to explain to anyone that her son doesn't take bottles. She shouldn't be expected to hire an assistant just to scoop granola for her because feeding her child supposedly tainted her hands and clothing.

A spokesman for the Department of Agriculture has apologized to Holt. The inspector is being contacted to get further details on why he prohibited Holt from selling food at her booth after nursing her baby.

Holt is an entrepreneur and essentially her own boss, but she's still facing breastfeeding discrimination. This is yet another example of why moms have to stand up for their right to breastfeed in public. Too many individuals still believe that nursing is unsanitary and something that should only be done in private, and until that's not the case, we have to speak up every time nursing moms' rights to nurse in public are infringed upon.

Baked spaghetti squash casserole is a healthy twist on your pasta bake

The hardest thing about making this squash is waiting for it to roast in the oven. Trust me, though, it's well worth the wait. You could also do the roasting ahead of time and simply toss the shredded squash into the recipe when you make the sauce. That makes it perfect for busy days. You can roast the squash in the morning while you get ready for work and then make the sauce when you get home. How perfect is that?

Baked spaghetti squash casserole

Baked spaghetti squash casserole recipe

Tired of pasta? We took spaghetti squash, mixed it with a quick homemade tomato sauce, topped it with cheese and baked till melty. This is a healthy twist to your typical pasta bake.

Serves 4

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 1 hour 40 minutes | Total time: 1 hour 50 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium- to large-size spaghetti squash (about 4 pounds)
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 cups chopped kale
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 (14 ounce) cans whole cherry tomatoes in juice
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Microwave the squash for about 5 minutes. This helps to soften it so you can slice it in half.
  3. Scoop out the seeds, rub the inside of the squash with a drizzle of olive oil, and then season with salt and pepper.
  4. Place the squash on the prepared baking, and bake for about 1 hour, depending on size. The squash is ready when the edges are brown and the flesh of the squash easily strings when a fork is run across it.
  5. Remove the squash from the oven, shred it with a fork, and set it aside.
  6. To a large, oven-safe saucepan, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add in the kale, green pepper, onion and garlic.
  7. Continue cooking until the vegetables are soft and the garlic is fragrant.
  8. Add in the cherry tomatoes with the juice, and simmer until the tomatoes start to break down and the sauce thickens. This should take around 20 minutes.
  9. Add in the shredded spaghetti squash, and toss to combine.
  10. Top with shredded cheese, and pop the casserole into the oven for 10 minutes to melt the cheese.

Unlicensed Frozen app teaches kids about pregnancy, C-sections and birth

Yes, you heard that right. Anna Giving Birth by Oleg Vinogorodov can be found on iTunes with downloads available for iPhone and iPad. So the good, or rather disturbing, news is that your young daughter can download a weird ass app that requires her to give Anna a C-section and birth her baby using a virtual scalpel.

The app developer has an interesting portfolio, to put it mildly. Vinogorodov is responsible for developing Howleen Wolf Manicure, Viperine Gorgon Haircut and Makeover For Briar Beauty. But clearly, Anna Giving Birth is the jewel in his crown.

The unlicensed app is set on this premise, "Anna got married and she was pregnant in the spring. Now nine months had elapsed, and it's time to give birth to a baby. Anna needs a very experienced doctor to help her deliver her baby. Let's come to help her!"

Uncomfortable as it may be, your child is expected to immediately learn about the birds and the bees by becoming Anna's virtual doctor during the birth of her child. In the app, Anna is very, very pregnant. A cursor is used as a fetal monitor to check the baby's vitals. The child is directed to inject Anna with a needle to give her an epidural. Anna goes to sleep.

Then comes the fun part — your child will perform a virtual C-section! By dragging a small scalpel across Anna's large pregnant belly, a magical orb, followed by a cute baby, is born. But as any mother who has undergone a C-section knows, the hard work isn't done yet. The child will use the virtual scalpel to cut the baby's umbilical cord. Yippee.

Suffice it to say, the Elsa version of the app isn't any better. In the game, Elsa breastfeeds her adorable newborn after giving birth in the hospital.

While the weirdness of this app entices me as an adult, Anna Giving Birth is not for little girls. Most parents aren't going to be happy when their kids are exposed to every aspect of childbirth wrapped up in a cutesy package and come away thinking that you can cut babies out of a pregnant woman with a glowing magic wand.

But if your child has already downloaded this train wreck, don't be too hasty to delete it. After hearing "Let It Go" so many times that it will be seared into my brain forever, I'm ready to mix it up. I know what I'm going to be playing with when the kids go to bed.

Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed engaged: Why we don't think it's true

More: The Originals' Joseph Morgan interview — good news for Klaroline fans

And not just because we don't want to imagine a world without Somerhalder on the market of eligible bachelors.

First of all, Reed has barely been officially divorced for a month. Though she and her ex-husband, Paul McDonald, filed for divorce back in March 2014, the process isn't completed so quickly and that had to be trying for Reed, who's probably ready to start the new year fresh.

The engagement rumors really gained traction on Monday, after the couple was out on the red carpet at the Warner Bros. Golden Globes party, marking their first time in the spotlight as a couple. Reed was wearing a diamond ring, which caught the attention of many speculating about the actors' relationship. One appearance and they're already engaged? No way!

Plus, the ring wasn't even on the correct finger. Reed was wearing the diamond band on her right hand instead of her left. Though Hollywood Life has a source claiming the ring was on the wrong hand because the couple wants to keep things on the DL, we're taking it with a really fine grain of salt. The source also says the two are planning a June wedding. That's only five months away and with Somerhalder's filming schedule and Reed's upcoming movies, it just doesn't seem like enough time to plan a wedding.

More: The Vampire Diaries' best and worst couples

Of course, it isn't all good news for those who are hoping Somerhalder remains single. It does appear as though the couple is serious about one another. Serious enough that Somerhalder is willing to stress out his ex, Nina Dobrev, by bringing his new lady onto the set of The Vampire Diaries. Somerhalder and Reed have also adopted two cats and a horse together. Sure sounds like commitment! But that doesn't mean he's put a ring on it... just yet, at least.

Do you think Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed could be engaged already?
