Jeremy Renner's new-ish marriage just turned into an ugly divorce

0
0

Renner and Sonni Pacheco were only husband and wife for 10 months before the split, but in that short time something bad enough happened that Pacheco is alleging fraud and Renner is afraid she will take off to Canada with their child.

Court documents state that the couple, who secretly wed on Jan. 13, 2014 but didn't confirm it until September, separated on Nov. 29 due to "irreconcilable differences," the common, boring reason given in most divorce documents. But when you read between the lines, things get a lot more interesting.

Pacheco is asking for sole physical custody of their daughter (but joint legal custody), that all communication between her and Renner happen only via the Our Family Wizard app, that their prenup be invalidated on the basis of "fraud," that he keep paying for her Range Rover and reimburse her for moving expenses.

More: INTERVIEW: Jeremy Renner loves his "free pass to wear a porno mustache"

But the real kicker is that she specifically demands that Renner "immediately return (her) stolen passport, birth certificate, social security card and be restrained from making further efforts to conceal same."

That doesn't sound like a very amicable split. So what's going on?

"This has been on the cards for a while. They are just not compatible," a source told E! News. "This is going to get ugly. His main priority is the baby and he will fight for full custody if it comes to that. All he cares about is being a dad. He is an amazing father. He is worried she is going to go back to Canada and take the baby."

"Jeremy wanted out of the marriage almost as soon as he got into it. He wanted to make sure Ava had a solid family unit and tried to make it work," the source added. "It's really sad because Jeremy loves Ava so much and hates that she will live her life with her parents split up."

Pacheco is Canadian, and Renner apparently fears she will take their daughter over the border and not come back.

"[Renner] will fight for primary custody," the source said. "He doesn't want her going back and forth to Canada. Jeremy is a good father and loves his daughter, this is heartbreaking for him."

The good news is that The Avengers star is now single, so have at it, ladies!

Play Doh slammed for super inappropriate-looking accessory (PHOTOS)

Maybe a little phallic? Okay, a LOT phallic?

You're not alone. Scores of parents whose children got the Play Doh Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain play set for the holidays noticed the frosting applicator bore a certain penile resemblance.

Play Doh Twitter

Play Doh Twitter

Children's toys that accidentally look like penises? Hilarious! Did no one at Play Doh notice this? Was it a Disney-esque subversion added in by some disgruntled designer? Or have the brains at Hasbro just forgotten about basic anatomy? It's even ribbed for your pleasure! Geez it's bad.

But gleefully sophomoric as it is, these are still kids' toys we're talking about, and you can't really blame a parent for not wanting their dear ones to be pumping modeling clay out of a tiny plastic dildo. If the kids aren't scarred by that, surely the parents would be.

Plenty of people had a field day posting pics of their penis cake decorators on the Play Doh Facebook page along with complaints and the few odd "this ruined my Christmas!" comments (really?!).

That's all well and good, but according to some commenters Play Doh tried to do some damage control by deleting comments -- most likely the ones with pictures attached.

We get it. It looks like a penis, guys! But as a brand, you never want to appear to be silencing criticism. Luckily Hasbro offered a statement to KTUL on the future of the no-longer-innocent Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain play set:

"We have heard some consumer feedback about the extruder tool in the Play-Doh Cake Mountain Play Set and are in the process of updating all future Play-Doh products with a different tool.

Extruder! Heh.

Okay, we've had our giggles, but now there are cakes to (non-pornographically) decorate.

10 Emotions you will experience when you step on a LEGO

0

If you haven't stepped on a LEGO with a bare foot, with your guard down, on your way to bed at 11 p.m., then you have no idea what pain really is. You may have given birth or watched your partner give birth. It looked pretty gory and probably freaked you out. But the worst was yet to come.

Your little bundle of joy would soon grow up and ask you to purchase him LEGOs. These LEGOs may provide hours of enjoyment, but they will also be chucked at you from the dinner table. They will be strewn about, left in the car and jammed into couch cushions. They will be planted like secret landmines throughout the carpet in a dark room, only to be detonated as they pierce your tender foot.

Stepping on a LEGO is guaranteed to bring out the worst in you.

Taylor Swift wins award for feminism — Kaley Cuoco, not so much

The Big Bang Theory star, who wed Ryan Sweeting last New Year's Eve, says she is not a "feminist girl" and has never faced inequality (apparently, she doesn't know about Hollywood's infamous wage gaps between men and women) and her favorite thing to do is serve her man.

"It's not really something I think about," she told Redbook. "Things are different now, and I know a lot of the work that paved the way for women happened before I was around… I was never that feminist girl demanding equality, but maybe that's because I've never really faced inequality," she said.

Cuoco also revealed she cooks for her husband "five nights a week: It makes me feel like a housewife; I love that. I know it sounds old-fashioned, but I like the idea of women taking care of their men. I'm so in control of my work that I like coming home and serving him," she told the mag.

Contrast that with another young female star: Taylor Swift. The "Shake It Off" singer was just named DoSomething.org's No. 1 on their Celebs Gone Good list for 2014, due in no small part to her "feminist awakening," they said.

More: Kristen Stewart and 5 other celebrity comments on feminism

In an interview with the Guardian back in August, Swift said, "As a teenager, I didn't understand that saying you're a feminist is just saying that you hope women and men will have equal rights and equal opportunities. What it seemed to me, the way it was phrased in culture, society, was that you hate men. And now, I think a lot of girls have had a feminist awakening because they understand what the word means. For so long it's been made to seem like something where you'd picket against the opposite sex, whereas it's not about that at all. Becoming friends with Lena [Dunham] — without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for — has made me realize that I've been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so."

No offense, Kaley, but we think we'd rather hang with TSwift. Our men know how to cook for themselves.

Sad dog home alone

Sad dog home alone

What do dogs do all day while they're home alone? It's a mystery for anyone who doesn't have a nanny cam set up. Unless, of course, you frequently arrive home to scenes of destruction and mayhem. Mike the Intern, a radio host, used his friend's new GoPro camera to discover what his dog was up to during the day.

Instead of having a dog party, Mike's pup ran around his home searching for him frantically and whining. In evident complete despair, the dog finally sat down and howled at the ceiling.

"I've had him for six years and today is the first day I have heard him howl," Mike told users on Reddit.

Mike said he held his dog and cried when he learned what was happening while he was gone. If your dog has separation anxiety, ask your vet about ways to lessen the distress, such as special television programs for dogs. Anything is better than discovering that your dog has been miserable — even adorably miserable — all day long.

8 Character voices from Christine Cavanaugh that made our childhood (VIDEO)

Though Cavanaugh herself was never in the Hollywood spotlight, the characters she voiced in cartoons and movies are some of the most notable of the '90s. She may have retired in 2001 to be close to her family, but the iconic characters she brought to life are sure to never fade.

MoreIs Playboy founder Hugh Hefner dead or alive?

1. Rugrats

Out favorite redheaded toddler and his signature raspy voice came from none other than Cavanaugh. We can't help but wonder how many times she giggled to herself while saying some of the best lines from the series for the first time like, "Life is hard, Tommy. Sometimes I think it's the hardest thing there is," and "I don't think this is such a good idea."

2. Dexter's Laboratory

Cavanaugh may not have been one of the three leading ladies of the show, but she did provide some fun additional voices like that of Bunny and Bud throughout 1999 and 2000.

Paul Walker's dad files claim against Roger Rodas' estate over cars

Walker's father, Paul Walker III, has filed a claim against Roger Rodas' family for $1.8 million. He says the Rodas family estate still has multiple cars in their possession that either belong entirely or partially to his son, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Rodas was the driver of the car in the accident that led to both he and Paul Walker's deaths when the Porsche they were in hit two trees and a light pole and caught on fire. The two were close friends and business partners. They owned a performance and racing shop together called Always Evolving, which was based out of Valencia, California.

Walker's father, who is the executor of his son's estate, is asking that the vehicles either be returned or he be reimbursed for the proportionate value of any sales, also according to Entertainment Weekly.

TMZ is reporting that Rodas' family has already rejected the claim, which means a judge will most likely be determining an outcome in the upcoming months.

It's been just over a year since Walker and Rodas were killed. Family and friends took to social media on the one-year anniversary to pay tribute to the actor, whose legacy continues to live on.

Paul Walker's brother, Cody Walker, spoke to E! News last month to remember his brother. He says his brother's life taught him to, "Just live your life to the fullest. Laugh a lot, love and find your true happiness. Remember that no matter how cool you think you may be, you're not cool enough to look down on anyone... ever."

Despite the actor's death a year ago, his final film, Fast & Furious 7, won't be released until Apr. 7, 2015.

The Hunger Games cast's Ebola PSA is making us uncomfortable (VIDEO)

More: 5 Franchise movie worlds that would scare the crap out of us if they were real

The Oscar-winning actress and her Mockingjay costars, including Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Julianne Moore, starred in a PSA released Monday about the West Africa Ebola crisis, but the video is less informative and more cringeworthy.

The PSA was produced by the Ebola Survival Fund, an initiative founded by fellow Mockingjay actor, Jeffrey Wright, who works with other larger organizations to help fight the deadly disease outbreak, E! News reports. Wright opens the clip, saying, "The world is facing the largest Ebola outbreak in history," but as soon as the other actors hit the screen, it's all downhill.

Hunger Games Ebola PSA

Hunger Games Ebola PSA

"But the countries hit hardest are Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone," J-Law continues, to which Hutcherson quips, "Weren't there just wars there?"

It leaves us scratching our heads. Was his question a joke, or does he really not know?

More: Jennifer Lawrence has a gorgeous voice, you guys — listen to her new single

The video goes on to explain that Ebola's survival rate could be greatly increased if the people it's hitting hardest had access to the kind of medical care we have in the U.S., and then comes another cringeworthy moment.

"What would happen if you got Ebola?" Hutcherson asks Lawrence. She pauses for a second before replying, with plenty of sass, "I'd be fine."

At best, this video makes the Hunger Games cast look like they're completely clueless about Africa and Ebola. At worst, it makes it look like they're making light of a disease that's killed thousands of people.

And it gets even weirder. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wright explained the inspiration behind casting his costars in the clip.

"The Hunger Games allegory aligns with this Ebola outbreak in that we, the United States, the West, relative to this, is very much like the Capitol and Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, are very much like the outer districts," he said. "I thought, well, let's play with that idea as a way of highlighting the stark contrast between we, the Capitol, and they, the outer districts, and using some of the constructs from the movie as a way of shining additional light on some of the contrasts."

2014's Most charitable celeb isn't a surprise at all

More: Taylor Swift wins award for feminism — Kaley Cuoco, not so much

The holidays are the season of giving and now that they've wrapped up, we get to find out who 2014's most charitable celebrity was. The reigning queen of philanthropy? Taylor Swift, of course.

We really should have seen it coming. This is the chart-topping pop star who sends presents in the mail to her fans just because and hosts private listening parties at her own home for her favorite Swifties on Tumblr. She poses in photos with her cats and fans. She bakes cookies for fans. She might be the nicest person on earth. Or, at least, the nicest celebrity and the most charitable for the third year in a row, according to the annual ranking by DoSomething.org.

And it's not just Tay Tay's attitude towards her fans that netted her third charity crown. Just in the last year, Taylor has given to countless charities, including UNICEF, Stand Up to Cancer, Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity, MTV News reports. And in October, she announced that all of the proceeds (all of them!) from her single, "Welcome to New York," off her new album, 1989, would go to New York public schools.

More: Taylor Swift says Lena Dunham educated her about feminism

But it was a new cause in 2014 that helped Taylor nab the top spot on the list for the third year running — according to DoSomething.org, a nonprofit that gets young adults involved with social change campaigns, Taylor's outspoken support for feminism this year helped push her to the top.

Orange Is the New Black star and LGBT rights activist, Laverne Cox, came in second and champion of the #BeyGood campaign, Beyoncé, nabbed the third spot on the list.

DoSomething.org's list also included Emma Watson, Demi Lovato and Chris Pratt, who made headlines this year for dressing up as his superhero Guardians of the Galaxy character to visit sick kids in hospitals. Aww.

More: If you think Taylor Swift is not a feminist — you're dead wrong

Congrats to all the celebs who made this year's list. Now we want to know what you think: Are there any celebs missing who should be recognized for their charitable work this year? Tell us in the comments.

Paralyzed bride walks down the aisle for her wedding (VIDEO)

But Hughes was determined. On January 2, this inspirational bride will be featured on Say Yes to the Dress. Her story is absolutely remarkable. Hughes refused to give up. She refused to let a painful and terrifying diagnosis stop her from living her life. And she made it down the aisle. Walking. I dare you not to cry when you watch this:

ParalyzedBride

ParalyzedBride

The determination on her face is reason enough to be moved, no? The truth is, many people would just give up in similar circumstances. But not Hughes. She teaches exercise classes, runs a gym and has managed to work through the pain and grief over her injury and turn it into something inspirational.

Walking down the aisle is something most brides take for granted. It's part of the process. But we are so lucky to be able to do so. Hughes takes nothing for granted and seeing her joy makes it impossible to remain unmoved. She said the vision of herself walking down the aisle got her through some of the more painful parts of her rehabilitation.

She worked with a coach and through strength and conditioning, was able to get her legs to function enough to move them. Once she reconnected with an old friend and they got engaged, she knew she had to make good on a promise she'd made to her sister: "I will not get married — whoever it be to, or whenever it happens — I will not do it until I can walk down the aisle. I just won't be in a wheelchair."

In 2011, she could barely sit up in bed. In 2014, she walked to meet her groom. No matter how low we are, we can always push ourselves. We can always strive. We can always do better.

Congratulations to the happy couple. What a moving story.

Jilted bride destroys wedding dress in the best way

Instead of wallowing in self pity after her college boyfriend-turned-fiancé dumped her less than a week before their wedding, Swink threw a party. She put on her dress. She invited her bridesmaids and her parents. And she gave them paint. See below:

PaintDress

PaintDress

It's not every day a person gets to trash thousands of dollars in wedding accessories and clothing, but Swink and her friends did it in style. I'd even guess they had more fun than they would have at the actual wedding. After all, what fun is it to be married to the wrong guy? Swink says her fiancé did her a favor. This looks a lot more fun than divorce, right?

MorePaintDress

MorePaintDress

People make a lot of interesting choices when they are in pain, but if this is what she can do at her lowest, imagine what she can do at her highest. She's lucky to have a lot of time, a great family and plenty of friends who were willing to douse her in paint, laugh with her and maybe even cry a bit. It is a wedding of sorts.

As for her former fiancé? One has to assume he's feeling pretty bad about himself right now. After all, look at the fun person he missed spending his life with!

"The moment the paint hit my dress I was free," Swink told She Knows. "I let go of all the hurt and disappointment and became myself again. I am a strong woman who believes that everything happens for a reason. We all face adversity in our lives, but what really defines us is how we decide to overcome that adversity."

What an inspirational story. What an inspirational woman. She'll go far with that joie de vivre.

Swink's dress will be displayed at The Barefoot Bride in Memphis through the beginning of next year. A portion of proceeds from the shop's sales will go to Be Free Revolution, a locally established nonprofit helping to empower men and women in Africa with trades for sustainability as well as feeding, education and counseling programs in nearby schools and orphanages.

Help kids make their own snowman pancakes

0
0

Kids and adults of all ages will love choosing their toppings and creating their perfect snowman for a delicious meal on snowy mornings. In fact, this build-your-own edible snowman breakfast is so fun it just might become a wintertime tradition for your family.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

Start by making the pancake batter. I did the actual scooping and measuring, and let my son do all the dumping and mixing.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

Once your batter is ready, you need to make 2 different-sized pancakes for each snowman. I used a full 1/4-cup measuring cup for the bigger pancake and then filled it only halfway for the smaller one.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

Once your pancakes are all cooked (this recipe made me 12 in each size), it's time to set out your toppings. You can use dried fruit, fresh fruit, frozen fruit, chocolate chips, cream cheese, powdered sugar, bacon, pretzel sticks or any other fun things you might have in your pantry.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

The easiest way to make your pancakes white is with powdered sugar through a sifter. The powdered sugar does absorb after a few minutes, so you'll want to wait until right before decorating and eating time to use it.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

Now comes the really fun part — decorating the snowmen!

snowman-pancake-tutorial

We are big fruit eaters in this house, so my husband went with blueberries and dried cranberries for the eyes, smile and buttons. We all used a little triangle of apple for the snowman noses.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

To make a snowman scarf, tear a piece of bacon to about the width of your small pancake, and lay it between the 2 pancakes.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

Tear another piece of bacon slightly longer, and tuck it under 1 end of the first piece.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

Skinny pieces of bacon or pretzel sticks work really well for arms.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

You can even use bacon to make your snowman a hat. This pancake snowman is spread with cream cheese to make him white.

We've decided that this was so much fun, it's going to be a holiday brunch tradition from now on.

snowman-pancake-tutorial

Snowman pancakes recipe

These snowman pancakes are so cute your kids will be begging to make their own breakfast. Feel free to incorporate any other topping ingredients you'd like.

Yields 12

Prep time: 20 minutes | Cook time: 15 minutes | Total time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

For the pancakes

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 3-4 tablespoons oil (I used coconut oil)

Topping suggestions

  • Powdered sugar
  • Cream cheese
  • Cooked bacon
  • Chocolate chips
  • Blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Dried cranberries
  • Apple slices
  • Pretzel sticks

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
  2. Stir in the milk, butter, vanilla and egg, and mix until the batter is just slightly lumpy.
  3. Melt a teaspoon of oil in a skillet on medium heat.
  4. Pour 1/4 cup of batter at 1 side of the skillet and 1/8 cup of batter at the other side.
  5. When bubbles begin to appear in the pancakes, flip them over to cook the other side. I did about 30 seconds on each side. Transfer the cooked pancakes to a plate.
  6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 with the rest of the batter.
  7. Place 1 large pancake on a plate, and place 1 small pancake above it.
  8. Use sifted powdered sugar or cream cheese to make your snowman white.
  9. Let everyone use their favorite toppings to make the eyes, nose, mouth and buttons for their snowmen. Pieces of bacon make great hats and scarves.

This is what happened when I didn't force my daughter to go to sleep

0

As an extrovert and a night person, when I finally settle into bed is usually the time when I get all excited about all the things I want to do. I want to read! I want to write! I want to question everything! I want to learn!

I have a hard time turning off my enthusiasm in the quiet of night, especially if I take a nap during the day or get too much sleep the night before. In her first year of kindergarten, my daughter was often taking a nap during the day just short enough to take the edge off her tiny childhood day and just long enough to turn her own enthusiasm volume up real loud at bedtime.

Telling her to go to sleep wasn't working. Thinking about what works for me wouldn't work either. She was only 4. She couldn't read or write beyond writing her name with a backwards y at the end. But she can draw. Of course, this is a lot more thought out now than it was at the beginning. It was a lot more of: "Oh my goodness, why won't my kid go to sleep?! Forget it, I'm giving her a notebook and some crayons. I can Magic Eraser the wall in the morning if needed."

I told her she could draw as long as she wanted, but couldn't leave her room unless it was an emergency. The definition of emergency needed to be clarified later, and does not include needing more paper, for the record. That night, she drew. Then she fell asleep. The next night, she drew again. And the next night. And a year later, she's still drawing.

Every night, we put her to bed with a bin of markers and crayons and a clipboard of blank paper. Some nights she draws for a few minutes, other nights she draws for a few hours. She falls asleep with her light on and when we hear that she has stopped singing, I go in to take a picture, clean up, turn the light off and tuck her in. Now she's 5 and starting to learn how to read, but she still draws. I have a feeling she will always still draw. Goodnight, Roozle.

More: Nicki Minaj opens up about the loss of her baby and more in new song

During an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the "Anaconda" hit maker reflected on her youth and how she met an older man while attending the famous LaGuardia performing arts high school. Minaj became pregnant with the man's baby and was left devastated by having to make a decision about her pregnancy at such a young age.

"I thought I was going to die," she told the magazine. "I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I'd ever gone through."

More: Nicki Minaj's Rolling Stone cover leaves nothing to the imagination

Minaj ended up having an abortion, but it is a decision she did not take lightly and admits it has "haunted me all my life," although at the time she felt it was the right decision for her.

"It'd be contradictory if I said I wasn't pro-choice. I wasn't ready. I didn't have anything to offer a child," she confessed.

Minaj previously touched on the subject in her track "Autobiography," and more recently in a track from her Pinkprint album titled "All Things Go."

The heartfelt song is produced by Boi-1da, Vinylz and Allen Ritter and co-written by Ester Dean, in which she raps, "My child with Aaron would have been 16, any minute/ So in some ways I feel like Caiah [Micaiah, her younger brother] is the both of them/ It's like he's Caiah's little angel, looking over him."

"My grandma passed away on Thursday night, services are today. Martha Jeanne Harris was 92, lived a long, lovely life. We shared a birthday, 6/15. She'll be missed," he wrote alongside a picture from the service titled "In Loving Memory."

Overnight vegetarian strata recipe

Adapted from Southern Living

Strata is huge with my family, especially on the holidays. Except with our stratas, they're loaded with cheese, sausage and tons of bacon. This lightened-up version is completely vegetarian but still packed with great flavor from the addition of fresh herbs. If you'd rather use just one kind of wheat bread, feel free to substitute either type in for 5 cups total.

Serves 12

Prep time: 22 minutes | Inactive time: 8 hours | Cook time: 30 minutes | Total time: 9 hours

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups chopped whole-wheat baguette
  • 2 cups sliced and chopped whole-wheat, low-calorie bread
  • 2 cups part-skim cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup (about 1 large) chopped onion
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium, low-calorie vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup low-fat Greek yogurt
  • 8 large eggs, beaten
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped thyme
  • 2 tablespoons chopped rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

Directions:

  1. Place the bread in a large 9 x 13-inch baking dish, and make sure it covers the bottom. Sprinkle the top with cheese.
  2. Spray a large skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Add the onions, and cook until just softened, about 2 to 3 minutes. Whisk in the flour until coated. Add the broth 1/2 cup at a time, whisking well after each addition. Bring the mixture to a boil, and then reduce to a simmer. Let simmer for about 6 to 8 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat, and mix in the Greek yogurt.
  3. Place the eggs into another bowl.
  4. Add 1/4 of the yogurt mixture to the eggs, and whisk well. Add the remaining yogurt mixture, and pour over the egg casserole. Stir in the fresh herbs, salt and pepper.
  5. Cover tightly with foil or saran wrap, and chill for at least 6 to 8 hours. Once chilled, remove from the fridge, and bring up to room temperature.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Remove the foil and saran wrap, and bake for about 30 minutes. Serve with additional fresh herbs.

Whole-wheat blueberry pancakes with fresh berries recipe

These light-as-air pancakes are made with a very special ingredient — Champagne! This makes every pancake even fluffier than before. And even when they're topped with low-sugar cranberry sauce and homemade whipped cream, you'll be shocked at just how light these hotcakes are.

Serves 6

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 15 minutes | Total time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup low-fat buttermilk
  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole-wheat flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Champagne
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup chopped cranberries

For the topping

  • 2 cups cranberries
  • 2 cups sugar-free orange juice
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, milk and applesauce. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, baking powder and sugar. Mix the flour mixture into the milk mixture, alternating with the Champagne. Gently fold in the blueberries and cranberries. Let sit for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Scoop the pancake batter (in 1/4-cup portions) onto the hot skillet. Cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes on each side.
  4. To make the sauce, mix together the cranberries, juice and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Reduce to low, and let cook until the sauce has thickened, about 8 minutes. Press the cranberries with the back of a spoon to smash.
  5. Serve the pancakes stacked with fresh whipped cream (optional) and cranberry sauce.

Sean Penn, Charlize Theron engaged — and it was everything but traditional

More: Charlize Theron's ring ignites Sean Penn engagement rumors

During a romantic trip to Paris, France, the couple reportedly took their relationship to the next level and got engaged, but it was anything but traditional.

According to Us Weekly, the couple secretly got engaged during a trip to the City of Lights last month, but don't be expecting to catch a glimpse of the Snow White and the Huntsman actress's giant sparkler anytime soon!

A source revealed to the publication that they "decided to take their relationship to the next level," after about a year of dating, but the proposal reportedly took place without a ring. "There's no ring, but they are committed," the source added.

Apparently a diamond ring is not something that Theron wants, as the magazine claims she is not the type of woman who ever dreamed of a big wedding, nor an engagement ring — not like the massive ring that Joe Manganiello gave to Sofia Vergara earlier this week!

More: Charlize Theron and Sean Penn accused of mistreating her 2-year-old son

The couple have yet to publicly announce their engagement but if the reports are true, let's hope third time's a charm for Penn, who has previously been married to to Madonna from 1985 to 1989, and to Robin Wright from 1996 to 2010.

This would be Theron's first marriage — although if this wedding happens we're not sure if we can expect to see photos of the big day, because it appears that these two like to keep things super low key.

Big Women: Big Love's Sabrina blogs: My "fat girl" journey to self-love

0
0

These are just some of my favorite things (and by "things", I mean "times when I wanted to throw a pile of papers in the air in hopes it would give someone an irritating gash") people have said to me in either casual conversation or yelled at me on the streets of NYC. Did I try and ignore it? I tried. Did it make me cry? Absolutely. But overall, those words helped me become the person I am today: a strong, independent woman who's ready for love.

I've never been skinny. Ever. I never cared until people made it a "thing." Let's go back in time for a second... Imagine being 9 years old, dealing with the already-present pressures of "growing up," and having a classroom full of children oink at you. Even at such a young age, size mattered to some people. When I moved to Long Island and started public school for the first time, I quickly learned that image is everything. It didn't matter that I was a good lacrosse goalie, that I sang beautifully at my audition for the school musical, or that I got a perfect score on my vocabulary test. I was fat and that's all people noticed. I had no face — just a big butt.

More: Photo book Curves aims to give young girls a healthier body image

I'll admit, my poor fashion choices probably didn't help: blue leopard tops and flowers in my hair — I wasn't exactly flying under the radar. I figured my personality would get me through, but I was wrong. I wasn't cool enough to be invited to parties, thin enough to have a boyfriend, and to top it off, I was sad all of the time. I thought, "Surely when I'm adult, things will change."

I was so wrong. When I got older, the oinks turned into resounding questions like, "are you going to eat all of that?" I stopped wanting to eat in public thanks to the too many stares. I hardly wanted to go out either. I was passed over for roles I auditioned for because I didn't have the "right" look. I didn't get promoted at work because "I couldn't handle it." No one wanted to date me. I once had a guy tell me that he liked me but he had never been with someone "my size" and "what if I'm turned off by your body." Wait... am I still in high school?

After getting laid off from my job in 2009, I gained 100 pounds. I never noticed because if something didn't fit, I bought the next size, no questions asked. Someone took a picture of me at a party, and when I saw it on social media, I cried. I quickly looked at old pictures and realized that I was never fat. I was just more shapely than the other girls. At almost 380 pounds, now I was fat. I stopped and thought about all the time and emotions I wasted being depressed. I let the world around me dictate who I am, and how I should look.

More: What formerly overweight women miss about their bigger bodies

From that moment on, "fat" didn't mean anything. It was just a word. I lost all the weight I had gained and then some. I gained the love for myself that I never had and spread this same love to every woman whose path I cross. I tell strangers that their hair looks nice or that their smile brightens the room, because those simple comments might make their whole day and who's going to stop me? My experiences taught me that we we spend too much time bashing what we hate instead of promoting what we love.

Now, life is much, much better. I get a lot of respect at work (can you dress 60 mannequins by yourself in a day?), I have an amazing circle of friends, I go on lots of dates (take that, dude who said he might be turned off by my body!), and most importantly, I feel more beautiful than I've ever felt. This "fat girl" loves herself. Every curve and every stretch mark. I welcome each day with my head held high and a smile on my face. And you know what, I am going to eat that.
