Bad English cost Oksana Baiul millions

$

The Olympic skating star of the '90s says that she would be millions richer had her financial people not taken advantage of her poor grasp of English. She's suing for $1 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

Oksana Baiul

Olympic fans best remember Oksana Baiul as the figure skater who won the ladies singles gold in 1994, beating out the then-recently attacked Nancy Kerrigan. But the skating legend said that while the world was cheering her on, her talent agents were picking her pockets.

Nancy Kerrigan's father dead; brother implicated>>

Baiul, born and raised in the Ukraine, has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court against the William Morris Endeavor agency, claiming they took advantage of her deficiencies in English.

William Morris Endeavor, TMZ reports, counseled the then-16-year-old skating star to sign contracts in 1994 that gave portions of her earnings to people Baiul had "no relationship" with. She apparently was not represented by a legal guardian when these contracts were signed, despite being a minor who spoke rudimentary English.

Baiul also says William Morris Endeavor has not paid her in full for projects including TV specials, greeting cards, books and the Oksana Baiul Jewelry Collection.

Olympian's sarcastic tweet about Africans gets her banned>>

The Hollywood Reporter pinned down specifics: "At least $150,000 from a jewelry deal, at least $100,000 as an advance on a greeting card and stationery deal, earnings and royalties from film and TV specials including Nutcracker on Ice and Wizard of Oz on Ice, book earnings, infomercial royalties and additional residuals."

In 2011, Baiul hired a new personal manager who found discrepancies when going back through her finances. Her lawsuit alleges that he's collected almost $9.5 million in back payments on her behalf, but she's still owed more.

Baiul is demanding at least $1 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

No reaction has yet been recorded from William Morris Endeavor.

New maternity trends for winter

There’s a new trend in maternity wear. Instead of skin-tight, clingy apparel, pregnant gals are going with the flow — flowy maternity clothes, that is. Check out the latest in flattering, loose-fitting clothes that promise high style with comfort.

For her second pregnancy, Kourtney Kardashianbucked the super-tight Hollywood trend, opting instead for blousy tops, pleated shift dresses and gauzy pantsuits. Embrace the move toward less-constricting maternity wear and try some of these new, chic looks.

Pleated dress

At the Nokia Lumia 900 launch last September, Kourtney sported this fabulous orange pleated dress. With the brilliant color and simple design, this little number is perfect for brunch, dinner and every event in between.

Get Kourtney’s brilliant look with the Donna Morgan Long-Sleeve Pleated Maternity Dress . The bold sapphire blue is a gorgeous alternative to basic black. Wear it with the sash belt or — like Kourtney — wear it without.

Little black dress

We enjoyed watching adorable Reese Witherspoon carry her third child, Tennessee James. The bubbly blonde wore a fab pink, loose-fitting dress to Easter services and this elegant LBD to a private party given by Sir Paul McCartney.

Copy Reese with this Seraphine Luxe Black Lace Cocktail Dress . The flattering A-line cut doesn’t cling to the hips, and the separate silk satin belt shapes this fine dress into a glamorous empire-line cut.

Maxi dress

Nick Lachey has said that his wife VanessaMinnillo was the most beautiful pregnant woman in the world. The first-time mama-to-be was beautifully attired throughout her entire pregnancy. She easily pulled off the fitted maternity outfits, but she looked relaxed and gorgeous in the boho-chic maxi dress she wore to a Disney ABC Television Group Party in Beverly Hills.

You can steal Vanessa’s artsy look with the Jessica Simpson Short-Sleeve Uneven Hem Maternity Dress . For “maxi”mum comfort, pair the easy-to-wear floral print maxi dress with ballerina flats. Or go Hollywood and add a pair of sky-high heels or cowboy boots .

Will TODAY tell Matt Lauer to kiss off?

The internet is awash with one very big rumor: Matt Lauer might soon be the next victim under TODAY's axe. Does he deserve it, though?

Matt Lauer looking annoyed. Is the end near for him?

It looks like NBC might be in the market for a new host for TODAY.

While no official announcement has been made, all our favorite gossip sites are talking about the possibility that Matt Lauer may be on his way out the door at NBC.

Lauer has been with TODAY since 1997 when he replaced Bryant Gumbel as co-host. Since then, it's been a bumpy ride for everyone on the show. There have been divorces, illnesses and multiple firings. Recently, TODAY has seen a major ratings drop. Earlier this fall, Good Morning America even beat TODAY's first-place ratings for the first time in 16 years.

Ann Curry's happier times, with Kenny Chesney

After the most recent firings of Ann Curry and TODAY's executive producer Jim Bell, a handful of unidentified sources from TODAY have come forth. All the sources point the finger of blame at Lauer. According to them, after everyone immediately blamed Lauer's poor relationship with Curry for her firing, he was furious and demanded Jim Bell take the fall.

"Matt wanted him to do it," said a source for The New York Post. "Matt was sick of being the punching bag."

The subsequent firing of Bell and then the promotion of former producer Don Nash continued to shake things up at TODAY. The show is also overseen by Alexandra Wallace, who is rumored to take no crap from anyone. It sounds like things will continue to stay rocky for everyone involved with TODAY.

Seeing as how everyone is convinced Lauer is at the root of all their problems, everyone from The Examiner to the Sun Times seems to think he'll be the next one to lose his job.

In the television world, rumors are always flying. What do you think? Is it time to say so long to Lauer?

Hugh Grant poses in awkward breastfeeding photo

Hugh Grant

A scripted moment? A publicity stunt? Nope! A recent photo shows Hugh Grant visibly uncomfortable standing next to a breastfeeding mama, and it just happened to be one of those ‘right place at the wrong time’ moments.

Hugh Grant recently visited an establishment called The Castle Inn in Dover, England, and in the midst of chatting with the owner, Paul McMulland, became visibly embarrassed when greeting Paul’s girlfriend -- because he didn’t realize at first that she was nursing their young baby, Sebastian.

A photo op

The baby’s mother, Natalie, was sitting on the sofa, breastfeeding her baby, when Hugh Grant came over and introduced himself. She said that he had no idea she was nursing her little boy and only realized it when her arm jostled the baby loose when he attempted to shake her hand. He apologized, turned red and promptly faced the other way.

They then turned the situation into an impromptu photo op, with Sebastian happily nursing away while Hugh hovers somewhat awkwardly by her side. He does, however, get points for being a good sport -- despite his obvious discomfort.

Nursing in public

Breastfeeding in public continues to be a battlefront of sorts for moms everywhere, with discrimination taking place in cities all over the globe. In the US, most states have specific laws protecting the rights of nursing mothers, and many businesses also have established rules for their employees to follow if there are any situations, such as complaints, that arise as the result of a mother nursing her little one. In general, mothers are allowed to nurse their children anywhere they are legally allowed to be, whether that place be public or private.

However, there continue to be issues with moms being told to cover up, go to another area or even leave the premises entirely when they are discovered to be breastfeeding their babies.

So, while Hugh Grant’s reaction isn’t unusual, the photo is in a sense -- although he was possibly embarrassed because he strode up to her and tried to shake her hand without the first clue that she was nursing. Which gives weight to the argument that you honestly can rarely tell if a mom is breastfeeding in public unless you’re really right up in her business.

Holiday salad recipes

Instead of serving a typical green salad for your Christmas meal, surprise your dinner guests with a homemade Caesar salad. You can even add some flair to your get-together by preparing your Caesar salad classic-style — tossing it tableside.

Caesar Salad

Even though a Caesar is a very simple salad to make, it adds effortless panache to your holiday dinner parties — especially when you create it right in front of your guests.

A quick history of the Caesar salad

The Caesar salad has a few historical origins, but Caesar Cardini, an Italian-born Mexican, is the most popular rumored creator.

Legend has it that Cardini invented the salad after running out of other ingredients in his restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. He tossed it tableside to add flair for the guests.

The original recipe's ingredients are somewhat different than the Caesar salad we know and love today. The original recipe didn't contain anchovies, chicken and mayonnaise. Rather, Worcestershire sauce, coddled eggs and mustard gave the classic dressing its original flavors.

Also, the classic Caesar salad was arranged leaf-by-leaf on a plate so diners could eat each leaf by hand. There are many mouthwatering variations on the Caesar salad today, giving you the option to add any ingredients you like. Here are some Caesar salad recipes you can serve this holiday season.

Original Caesar salad recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup olive oil, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups white bread, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 medium heads romaine lettuce
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 6 drops Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and put a saucepan of water over high heat to bring water to a boil.
  2. Puree garlic, one-quarter cup olive oil and salt in a food processor until combined. Place bread cubes on a baking sheet and lightly toast in the oven.
  3. Add bread cubes to a hot skillet and toss with garlic oil. Saute one minute until hot. Move to a small bowl. Place eggs in the saucepan of water and boil for one minute.
  4. Place lettuce leaves in a large, wide mixing bowl.
  5. Toss remaining one-quarter cup of olive oil, salt and pepper with lettuce. Then add lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce. Break the eggs into the salad and add cheese, tossing to coat. Top with croutons and serve.

Chicken Caesar salad recipe

Serves 6

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 oil-packed anchovy, minced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cups white bread, torn or cut into pieces
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 head romaine lettuce, washed and torn into pieces
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:

  1. Whisk together mayonnaise, lemon juice, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and anchovy. Slowly drizzle in oil while whisking.
  2. To make croutons, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine crushed garlic, olive oil and salt in a bowl. Toss bread with oil mixture. Lay bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake about 10 to 15 minutes, flipping about halfway through.
  3. Sprinkle chicken with salt, sugar, garlic powder and onion powder. Grill chicken in a grill pan or in oven for about five minutes per side. Slice chicken into strips.
  4. Toss lettuce with chicken, croutons, dressing and cheese tableside.

Jon Bon Jovi speaks out on daughter's OD

Jon Bon Jovi is speaking out about his daughter's recent heroin overdose. Well, kinda.

Bon JOvi talks about his daughter's heroin overdose

Bon Jovi fans were shocked last week when the teenage daughter of front man Jon Bon Jovi overdosed on heroin. Now, the "Livin' on a Prayer" singer is speaking out about his daughter's overdose and recovery.

"This tragedy was something that I had to face too, so we'll get through it," he told Fox 11, according to the New York Daily News. "And people's incredible warm wishes for my family and I have been really reassuring. So, we're good. We're good."

Jon Bon Jovi jokes about death hoax >>

Stephanie Bongiovi, 19, was rushed to the hospital — and later arrested — on Nov. 14 after she was found unresponsive in her Hamilton College dorm room. Police later found heroin, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia in her room at the upstate New York school.

Bongiovi was later charged with misdemeanor possession of the heroin, misdemeanor marijuana possession, criminally using drug paraphernalia and a marijuana violation, according to police.

Jon Bon Jovi opens charity restaurant >>

The charges were later dropped, though, citing a New York state so-called Good Samaritan law that prevents fragile people from arrest.

"People will say she got away with murder because of who she is, but this law was passed so people don't watch somebody die because they're afraid of jail," Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara told the Daily News.

"And you don't want the person overdosing to say, 'No, don't call.'"

Jon Bon Jovi to create a fragrance line for Avon >>

As for how Bon Jovi is doing after the incident? He's still working on the advisory board for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund with fellow Jersey boy Bruce Springsteen. However, he added that his priorities are in the right place.

"What I do for a living seems glitzy and glamorous but if you don't take it too seriously it's a great way to make a living," he added to Fox 11. "And then life goes on. Things happen."

Does Emma Stone have a pre-fame sex tape?

Say it isn't so, Emma! The Amazing Spider-Man star Emma Stone allegedly has a sex tape, according to sources.

Emma Stone has a sex tape, according to reports

Another week, another sex tape rumor.

This time, the rumored sex tape reportedly belongs to The Amazing Spider-Man star Emma Stone, according to RadarOnline. A so-called close friend told the website that the tape's existence is a "fact."

Emma Stone admits she is "less buxom" than Gwen Stacy >>

"She made it long before she started dating Andrew Garfield, and before she really became a household name. She was just young and probably thought nothing would ever come of it," the source said of the 24-year-old star.

"The tape remains in the hands of the person she made it with," the source said, adding that it "doesn't mean there's any guarantee that it won't eventually hit the market. The higher Emma's star rises, the more valuable that tape becomes."

Celeb Hairstyle of the Week: Emma Stone >>

We highly doubt the high-profile Stone would authorize the release of such a tape, unlike other celebrities we know. Stone is sexy, but she's that kind demure sexy that so many celebrity women have abandoned in favor of publicity and photo ops.

"I’m by no means a supermodel or an unobtainable-looking person,"she told reporters at a press conference for The Amazing Spider-Man."I’m a lot more [girl] next door."

And we love that, Emma!

Emma Stone talks about growing up with panic attacks >>

The bigger question: When exactly was the tape filmed? She became a household name after her breakout role in 2006's Superbad, meaning she would have been a minor if it was recorded before that.

If that's the case, we don't expect the tape to ever see the light of day, namely because it's, well, illegal.

Rihanna sorta apologizes for disastrous 777 tour

Reporters on Rihanna's 777 Tour savaged the singer for her treatment of them; she gives a sideways apology that sounds more like a bunch of lame excuses.

Rihanna at meet and greet

After scandalous reports on Rihanna's chaotic 777 Tour leaked out from embittered journalists, she apologized to them. Sorta.

"I know you guys got barely any dirt,"Rihanna said after emerging from her private room aboard the plane full of journalists, a mere 30 minutes before the plane landed back in NYC early Wednesday morning, ending the tour.

Reporters threaten mutiny on Rihanna's 777 flight>>

"But I had to be good. I still sound like sh*t. It's impossible to spend time with everybody, and I'm sorry I didn't. Usually I will be partying back here [in coach], balls to the wall. But I had to pay attention and take care of my health since I was on the plane all the time."

Did any of the reporters ask Rihanna why she was taped shopping for lingerie in Paris while the reporters sat waiting on the plane for hours?

Nah, says Fuse TV's Jason Newman. The abashed reporters sent her "probing questions like, 'Will you be playing Ireland next year?'"

Battle for Queen B: Minaj & Rihanna tied for most AMA Nominations>>

"To many on the plane, it felt too little too late as eyerolls and groans replaced last week's enthusiasm," Newman writes. "A week ago, she was the singer ready to hang with fans. Now she was the dad who missed all his son's little league games and showed up after the championship with ice cream."

According to tweets and stories filed by the journalists on the tour, Rihanna barely associated with the reporters, who were also treated to multi-hour waits on the plane, as well as on busses not equipped with bathrooms.

But Ri-Ri had to take care of herself. Okay!

Obama bores Hillary Clinton to sleep

CNN's live feed of Obama's speech catches Secretary of State Hillary Clinton checking out for a little bit of it.

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama at the White House

So maybe international travel doesn't agree with Hillary Clinton: The Secretary of State was caught by CNN's cameras snoozing during a speech by President Barack Obama.

President Obama, on a diplomatic swing through East Asia, was delivering a speech at Myanmar's University of Yangon in Rangoon Monday afternoon, according to Myanmar time.

Ladies, quit your whining says Hillary Clinton>>

The speech aired live on CNN at 2:30 a.m. in the United States and revealed that Hillary Clinton nodded off during a certain point in the speech.

Mediaite reported that "while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hung in there for about the first half-hour, she eventually succumbed to what appeared to be a deep meditative state."

Maybe she was just deep in thought?

Kinda doesn't look like it. She's still with her eyes closed for a good long while before reviving herself and rubbing her nose sleepily.

Bristol Palin loves Hillary Clinton, hates Glee>>

"Really, though, who could blame her?" asks Mediaite reporter Tommy Christopher. "I don’t know a single reporter who hasn’t nearly passed out in the East Room in the middle of the day during a presidential speech… the President’s delivery can be quite lulling. I can’t imagine what it’s like to sit through one jet-lagged by a half a day."

Yes, it should be noted that Clinton had been at a wine tasting in Australia before flying to Myanmar to listen to a speech about human rights at 2:30 in the morning. Who among us could stay awake under those circumstances?

Still, it's amusing to watch Clinton slowly drift off on live TV. Give that woman an afghan and some slippers, somebody!

Six weeks. That’s what the holiday season is for most of us. It’s those six weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. So why not turn those six weeks into sex weeks? Here are five ways to have a happy, horny holiday.

Secrets to a frisky holiday season

chocolateEngage in naughty nutrition

There are too many articles that advise you to be mindful about your eating and drinking during the holidays. I say, eat, drink and enjoy! What are some sexy holiday foods to get you “in the mood?” My favorite is chocolate. The darker the better. Chocolate is a well-known aphrodisiac that stimulates desire. How? It contains two chemical compounds responsible for elevating moods and helping circulation to all parts of the body . The antioxidants in dark chocolate are great for promoting sexual vigor. So indulge in those holiday chocolate bars, cupcakes and brownies. You can always start that diet in the New Year…

And if you’re worried about fitting into that sexy dress after consuming such yummy chocolate? In keeping with the theme, then buy a Yummie Tummie!

Swallow some holiday cheer

Cocktail idea: Red Burgundy mixed with ginger, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla and sugar is known as Hippocras' aphrodisiac.

Wine can be more than fine during the holidays. In fact, alcoholic beverages have been used to stimulate the libido since ancient times. Wine that is spiced can be a potent aphrodisiac. White port is a powerful aphrodisiac , especially when paired with strawberries. And then, of course, there’s tequila. Or “tantric tequila” as I like to call it. I haven’t found any traditional research to confirm its aphrodisiac qualities, but I do have a number of girlfriends who will confirm it!

dreidelPlay Strip Dreidel

Just like eating a bagel, you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy a good game of Strip Dreidel. All you need is a dreidel, a partner and a bottle of Manischewitz or tequila. Just spin to win! You’ll get tipsy and naked in no time at all. You can either make up your own rules, or read my special rules at: www.FiftyTwoShadesofBlueish.com.

Make some Mistletoe Madness

Nope. You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to enjoy some Mistletoe Madness! In fact, it can be quite fun to engage in this activity right after a hearty game of Strip Dreidel. Oh sure, anyone can stand under the mistletoe and get that requisite peck on the lips, but not you. During Mistletoe Madness, you get with a partner, get naked, grab your mistletoe and wave it over each part of your body that needs some kissing. Maybe then you can engage in some frisky reindeer games…

Have happy holiday sex

More sex means less stress, and because the holiday season can be filled with stress, I advise having lots of it. Sex, that is. Here’s what happens, though. The stress that comes from enduring those long lines at the mall, dealing with sugar-crazed kids or family members who take all the “fun” out of dysfunctional, does not necessarily put you “in the mood” . My advice? Do it anyway. And by “it” I mean “sex.”

That’s right. The act of engaging in sex will actually get you in the mood, and after a sexy romp, your body will experience a hormone release that triggers the sense of relaxation and relief that you crave. Plus, there’s always the added benefit that sex burns calories — which works very well with your new naughty diet. So put on your sexy Santa hat or place some Hanukkah gelt in some strategic places and have yourself some happy holiday sex!

Feeling rushed in the mornings? So are we, which is why we wanted to come up with some simple ways to save time — and our sanity. Start your day off right by using our best beauty shortcuts.

Timesaving beauty tips

Shower the night before

If you can swing it, skip your a.m. shower in favor of an evening scrub down. Dry and style your hair , put into a low, loose ponytail when you head to bed, and in the morning, simply shake it out, mist with water and run the blow dryer over it to revitalize your locks.

Perk up yesterday’s blowout

Your hair style from the day before isn’t necessarily a lost cause the next day. Dry shampoo can be a simple way to save time on rushed mornings. Sprinkle or spray on your scalp, brush through gently and shake hair out to revive your style before you head out for the day.

Skip foundation

Putting on a full face of makeup takes time, sometimes a lot of time. So when you’re strapped for any extra minutes you can find, don’t even look at the foundation bottle. Instead, opt for time-saving BB cream or tinted moisturizer. Both products are easy to apply and offer natural-looking coverage. Add a dusting of translucent powder to combat shine if you need to.

Focus on one feature

Rather than waste time using various makeup techniques on your eyes, lips and cheeks, focus your attention on one feature. That way you’re playing up an asset, without tacking time onto your morning routine.

6 Beauty tips to simplify your morning>>

Use multitasking products

Products that serve more than one function are a busy woman’s dream. We suggest loading up on shower gel that can also be used on face and hair, the aforementioned BB cream or face wash that also exfoliates.

Choose outfits in advance

The amount of time most of us waste standing in front of the closet in frustration could probably equal an extra 45 minutes in bed. Rather than rush, choose an outfit the night before — shoes, accessories and all. That way there’s no need to stare blankly at your wardrobe when you could be drinking a much-needed coffee.

A sweet breakfast treat

This fruity and seasonal breakfast recipe is over-the-top delicious! Serve with a side of crispy bacon or sizzling sausage to really push it over the edge.

Challah french toast with warm apples and cinnamon crumble

This dish makes the perfect birthday breakfast in bed or special occasion morning treat!

Challah French toast with warm apples and cinnamon crumble

Ingredients:

For the French toast

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup half-and-half or heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 slices challah bread, cut into 3/4 to 1-inch slices
  • 1-2 tablespoon butter
  • Powdered sugar for garnish
  • Maple syrup, if desired

For the sauteed apple

  • 1 apple
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Pinch of sugar and cinnamon

For the crumble topping

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Add the first eggs, half-and-half, and vanilla extract to a large measuring cup or bowl and whisk together well. In a separate, shallow pan, pour egg mixture over slices of challah and allow the bread to sit in the mixture, about 20-30 minutes each side.
  2. While the bread is soaking, melt butter over medium heat in a small-medium pan. Add apple slices and saute until soft but not mushy, about 10-12 minutes. Add a pinch of cinnamon and sugar and set aside.
  3. To make the cinnamon crumble, add all ingredients to a bowl and mix together well with a fork until mixture resembles a coarse crumble.
  4. When bread is sufficiently soaked, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  5. Add butter to a large pan over medium heat. Once butter coats the pan and begins to bubble, carefully add egg-soaked bread to the pan.
  6. Cook about three to four minutes each side or until both sides are lightly browned and crisp. Add more butter when flipping.
  7. Turn off the stove. Add one slice of the French toast to another small, ovenproof pan.
  8. Top with most of your sauteed apples and a second piece of French toast, and then add desired amount of cinnamon crumble.
  9. Bake in the oven about 10-12 minutes, or until lightly browned on top and apples are a bit bubbly.
  10. Remove from pan and plate. Cut in half with a serrated knife. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and garnish with leftover apples.
  11. Serve with maple syrup .

As exciting as it is to take a trip, the process can be draining for even the most seasoned travel veteran, and all that time in the air doesn't usually make for the most glowing complexion.

In-flight beauty tips

Let's face it — flying wreaks havoc on your skin. But it doesn't have to. We share some simple yet effective ways to keep your skin looking great at altitude.

Flying and your skin

"The biggest problem is dryness, because the air changes inside the cabin," says Renee Klinc, an American Airlines flight attendant, about the number one enemy to supple skin when flying. "This is the main concern to be aware of and to take care of when you're traveling." And Klinc would know. Since her career regularly takes her to 30,000 feet, she understands what air travel can mean to even the smoothest skin.

Before and after you fly

Your travel-savvy skin regimen starts before you even board. Not only will the right routine help keep your skin comfortable, but you'll look great for the duration of your flight. "I start with using a mild cleanser, and then I use a moisturizer, a skin perfector and 24-hour makeup," says Klinc. "Whenever I get home or to the hotel, I wash my face and apply a night moisturizer, and I use lip balm for my lips. I also always wash my hands thoroughly after flying."

While you're in the air

Whether you're in the air for three hours or logging multiple hours on an overseas flight, your skin will be affected — but there are ways to minimize dryness and discomfort. "For the face I would recommend using a moisturizer. I also always try not to use any drying soaps or astringents before flying," advises Klinc. "For your hands and body, I'd recommend using a healthy amount of lotion, preferably one with no scent or perfume."

Klinc will even apply moisturizer over makeup when her face is extremely dry while flying. "It's also very important to drink a lot of water. I try to drink one liter of water on a three-hour flight," she says.

Black Friday shopping strategies

To find the best deals on Black Friday, you have to have a game plan; you can't just stroll into the store at noon and expect to find what you want. Follow these Black Friday strategies and tips to get the best bargains and reduce your holiday shopping stress.

Woman with shopping bags

Carry a shopping list

Spend some time researching and create a detailed shopping list. When you get to the stores, stick to it. "Know exactly what you want. The best Black Friday deals are in very limited supply, which is why you should never enter a store and just be window shopping," says Service Strategist John Tschohl, author of The Customer is Boss. "Have a detailed list of everything you want to get. To save valuable time, make sure you know ahead of time the differences in models, the need for any add-ons or accessories, and a backup store if your first stop runs out." There are apps available for your smartphone that will generate your wishlist for you and keep everything organized so you don't have to worry about losing it.

Sort by category

Sort your list by category according to the areas of the store. When shopping at big-box and department stores, your best bet is to go with two friends. One of you heads to the back of the store, one takes the middle section, and one remains near the front. This way, you won't miss out on the Black Friday deals in electronics because you are caught up in kids' clothing. Head to the story a few days in advance to map out your path of attack so you know exactly where everything is.

Hire someone else to camp out

Discounted electronics and other items are in very limited quantities on Black Friday, so you have to be near the front of the line. If you don't want to spend the night on the cold, freezing sidewalk, hire a trustworthy teen from your neighborhood to wait in line for you. Give her $50, a Thermos with a hot drink or soup, and a blanket; tell her to bring a book . While she holds position in the line, you can catch some sleep and arrive right before the store actually opens.

Don't give in to temptation

If you don't find what you're looking for on Black Friday, don't be tempted to buy whatever is on sale. This is how you end up overspending on junk you don't really want or need. "If you don't get the deals you want on Black Friday, wait," says Tschohl. "Retailers usually run special sales the first two weeks of December. Prices generally go up closer to Christmas for those who wait until the last minute. If you're eyeing something for yourself, many retailers also run deeply discounted after-Christmas sales to reduce their inventories." Also be aware of false sales. Some retailers will advertise low prices that actually aren't any lower than the original price, they just want to move the product. Do your research ahead of time so you get the best deals possible.

Prep yourself for the stress of the season

Once Thanksgiving arrives, other end-of-the-year holidays are just around the corner. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed by stress this season.

Keep track of your kids’ school special events and days off

Thanksgiving is the kick-off to your kids’ school special holiday events and programs. Check the school’s schedules and update your own calendar so you won’t miss a single Christmas program, half day or holiday feast. Don’t forget kids will likely have at least two weeks off school for winter break, so plan ahead for winter camp or fun activities to keep your kids occupied during the break.

Check out one good-humored woman’s approach to the holiday calendar>>

Prepare in advance

An entire holiday meal is tough to pull off all in one day. So prepare as much food as you can in advance. Sides like mashed potatoes, stuffing and casseroles can be prepared days before and then reheated on the big day. Ask your guests to pitch in with items like appetizers or desserts and enlist your kids to help set the table.

Spread out your shopping

Instead of trying to get all your shopping done in one fell swoop — whether it’s on Black Friday or Christmas Eve — spread out your holiday shopping spree into smaller shopping segments.

Order a few things online, pick up stocking stuffers during your regular errands and split up shopping trips to coincide with your paydays so you never have to feel strapped for cash during the holidays.

8 Tips for savvy holiday shopping>>

Have your kids check in before accepting holiday party invites

When the holiday party invitations start rolling in, hold a family meeting — and bring your calendars! Prioritize each invitation by the ones you must attend, ones you want to attend and ones you can skip this year. Make sure each member of your family gets to attend at least one coveted holiday party.

Expect the unexpected

It’s practically a given that at some point over the holidays, you’ll receive some unexpected guests. Some may pop by to drop off gifts or some out-of-towners may surprise you with a visit. Be prepared for anything by stocking your pantry with a few bottles of good wine, crackers and jars of marinated olives and artichoke hearts. Pack your fridge with some good cheese, crudité and thinly sliced meats like salami and — voila — you’re set for anything!

Remember the true spirit of the season

Regardless of your religion, the holidays have become more and more commercial and less and less focused on the true spirit of the season. Instead of stressing over getting in line on Thanksgiving night to score the perfect Christmas gifts for your kids, spend some quality time with them bonding and making memories that will last much longer than the latest toy.

The world doesn't have to know about the extra piece of pumpkin pie you ate for Thanksgiving. Cover up any lumps and bumps flawlessly with these flattering fashion picks.

Leggings and a comfy tunic

When the weather is chilly and I just want to be comfy, I love to throw on a pair of flattering leggings and a big 'ole tunic or sweater. Since leggings don't offer as much support as zip-up jeans, I turn to ones with more support and shaping. Finish off the look with some comfy flats and you're ready to chill out.

Flexees Fat Free Dressing Leggings $25, Gap Colorblock Tunic $44, Ballasox Stretch Flat $60

Flowing dress and shaping undies

Tight dresses and the day after Thanksgiving don't exactly go hand in hand! But don't take a few weeks off your dress wardrobe without a little backup, ladies. During those first few days after Thanksgiving indulgences, opt for flowing dresses to flatter your shape, and get a little extra backup with shaping undies. Finish your look off with a pair of tights and a chic pair of heels and you're good to go.

Sheer blouse and jeans

Sheer blouses are one of my favorite fall fashion trends, and they're also pretty figure flattering. If you want a bit more post-Thanksgiving coverage this month, don a shaping tank top under your sheer blouse. Finish the look off with dark wash jeans and a pair of fall's hottest booties, and everyone will be focusing on your fab outfit, not your flab.
