Mo'Ne Davis Pitches Complete Game

The 13-year-old star of her Taney, Pennsylvania, Little League team pitched a shutout game on Sunday to advance her team to the Little League World Series. Her 70-miles-per-hour fastball is already the stuff of legends in her hometown near Philadelphia. Davis was the subject of a recent Philadelphia Magazine article with a title that sums up how important she is to girls who dare to dream of the Big Leagues, “My Daughter Wants to Throw Like Mo'Ne Davis.”

Kinda kills the whole "you throw like a girl" insult.

This 13-year-old honors student is poised to change the way women and girls view themselves in relation to the sport of baseball. Davis shows girls can not only play at the highest levels with the boys, they can strike 'em out swinging.

The lovebirds welcomed a baby girl into their little family over the weekend, People reports. And their tiny bundle of joy born on Saturday, Aug. 9, weighing in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces, has been named Marlowe Mae Martino — a relatively unusual name, as Susan Sarandon predicted.

The That's My Boy actress's rep revealed to the publication that she and her soccer commentator beau "are thrilled and enjoying the new addition to their family."

The happy couple married in 2011, and has been counting down the days until their daughter's birth. They previously announced their happy news in February, before taking to Twitter to inform fans of their child's gender in March.

The couple is not only first-time parents, but Amurri Martino's mother Susan Sarandon has also officially become a grandmother, although she's not yet ready to be called granny.

"I borrowed this name from a very dear friend of mine who's from the South, and his grandma was 'Honey,'" the actress previously revealed.

All the same, the star is thrilled for her daughter and the new addition to her family.

"We bought this gliding chair. I had used a rocking chair, but now they have these chairs that glide. You can sleep in it, practically. So that's what she got for her birthday from me," she previously told Us Weekly. "I think that even when I was having a baby myself and even after I had two babies myself, that you can't even grasp the reality of it until that baby is there."

Congratulations to the happy family.

The True Blood star didn't waste any time before popping the question, and he decided that Aug. 6 was the perfect day to ask his girlfriend to marry him, People reports.

The happy couple has only been dating since spring, shortly after the 33-year-old actor split from his wife of six years, Ciera Parrack, in June, but the pair appears to be completely smitten with each other.

While the loved-up pair has been posting plenty of cute photos of themselves via social media, they decided to take a little hiatus (so we have not yet seen pictures of the engagement ring). The pair both posted a video on July 31, informing fans that they would be taking a trip to Austin, Texas, and would be avoiding social media for a little while.

Parrack's engagement is not the only good thing happening in the actor's life right now. He has also received critical acclaim for his role in the Broadway production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men, alongside James Franco.

This will be the second marriage for Parrack and the first for the One Tree Hill actress — although, she was previously engaged to producer, Geoffrey James Clark, for two years after he proposed while they were vacationing in the Bahamas.

Tracy Morgan still struggling to recover from horrific crash

"He's still struggling," attorney Benedict P. Morelli told Today host, Matt Lauer, in an interview Monday morning. "But he's a fighter. He's had issues before that he's fought through, and he's fighting hard."

Driver in Tracy Morgan crash was 20 miles per hour over speed limit >>

Referring to the crazy rumors that have surrounded his client, Morelli went on to share, "The interesting thing is that at the beginning, the internet was saying that [Morgan] was dead. And then they said they amputated his leg. Now, it's coming out that he's doing great. None of those things are true or accurate."

However, it is true that the former 30 Rock star is suing Walmart, whose tractor-trailer smashed into the rear of Morgan's limo van on June 7. Fellow passenger and comedian, James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, was killed, while comedian Ardie Fuqua and Morgan's assistant, Jeffrey Millea, were also hurt.

Kevin Roper, the driver of the Walmart truck, pleaded not guilty to criminal charges of vehicular homicide and assault.

Tracy Morgan welcomes first daughter after having three sons >>

The suit Morgan and the two other surviving passengers filed alleges Roper had been awake for over 24 hours, during a long shift that exceeded federal safety limits, when the crash occurred.

"I'm going to show if I have to in court that that's the culture [at Walmart]," Morelli, who believes these unsafe working conditions are the norm for the company's drivers, explained to Lauer. "That's what they set up. They know... they have to make sure that this doesn't happen."

In response to the lawsuit, Walmart issued a statement that reads in part, "We are cooperating with the ongoing investigation and working to resolve all of the remaining issues as a result of the accident." The company added they will take "full responsibility" if their driver is found to be at fault for the crash.

Jason Aldean says people need to get over cheating scandal

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian talked to his kids about affair >>

The "When She Says Baby" singer took to Instagram over the weekend to declare his happiness about his relationship with girlfriend, Brittany Kerr, and ask that their union no longer be judged. Aldean posted a quote that says, "You know my name, not my story. You've heard what I've done, but not what I've been through." The post is accompanied by a caption that reads, "So sick of people judging me and @brittanylkerr over things they know nothing about. I have made mistakes but I am a better person because of it, and I wouldn't change a thing. I am happier than I've ever been, so thank u to all the people who support us. We are happy and life goes on. Its time to move on people. #aldeanarmy #oldnews #timetomoveon."

Jason Aldean tells people to move on

Aldean and Kerr, who is a former American Idol finalist, were first caught together in October 2012, when Aldean was very much still married. The pair was caught kissing by TMZ cameras in a Hollywood bar, leading Aldean to apologize to his fans on Twitter. "The truth is I screwed up," he tweeted around the time of the kiss. "I had to (sic) much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar. I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that's the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself."

Then, in April 2013, Aldean and his wife, Jessica Ussery, who is also his childhood sweetheart,  announced their separation after 11 years and two children together. This past March, reports began to surface that Aldean and Kerr have in fact been a couple since he had filed for divorce. The two also raised eyebrows when they walked the red carpet at the 2014 CMT Music Awards as a couple in June, prompting many to say that the public appearance was insensitive and too soon.

The budding relationship has also come under scrutiny by those close to Aldean: His two daughters reportedly want nothing to do with Kerr, because they still view the songstress as "the other woman."

Robin Williams checks into rehab to stay sober >>

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Williams was found unconscious inside his home in Tiburon, California. Marin County Communications received a 911 call and responding emergency personnel found him around noon on Monday, Aug. 11.

Williams was last seen alive at his home, where he lives with his wife, around 10 p.m. Sunday night. He had checked into rehab back in July, but his progress had not been made public.

"Robin Williams passed away this morning," Williams' rep confirmed. "He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."

Williams' wife also released a statement to NBC News, saying, "This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken."

Why Robin Williams was a significant part of my life >>

The legendary actor was born in 1951 in Chicago and started his career as a comedian. He made his mark in Hollywood at a young age — notably as Mork on the show, Mork & Mindy. His memorable roles may be too many to name, but he appeared over decades in films like Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Birdcage, Good Will Hunting and as the voice of the genie on Aladdin. He most recently returned to TV, along with Sarah Michelle Gellar, in The Crazy Ones.

Williams won an Oscar in 1998 for his role on Good Will Hunting, but he was also nominated in 1988, 1990 and 1992.

He had been filming Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, but it's not clear if his part was all filmed. Mrs. Doubtfire 2 had been announced, but the future of the film is now in question.

"There really are no words to describe the loss of Robin Williams," Fox, which is producing the Night at the Museum sequel, said in a statement. "He was immensely talented, a cherished member of our community, and part of the Fox family. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans. He will be deeply missed."

Nanu Nanu! Mork and Mindy reunite on The Crazy Ones >>

According to a release by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, the initial cause of death appears to be suicide by asphyxia, but the Investigations and Coroner Division of the Marin County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the circumstances and cause of death.

Why Robin Williams was a significant part of my life

0
0

I'm a member of Generation Y... or maybe I'm a millennial. They run together. Either way, Robin Williams has occupied a huge chunk of my life and the lives of others my age. At 63 years old, Williams was the same age as my father and had long been one of his favorite actors. That meant I grew up to a lot of "Nanu Nanu"s and probably watched movies like Good Morning, Vietnam and Dead Poets Society far earlier than I should have. I imagine this was the case for a lot of people my age.

So sad to see him go: Robin Williams' official SheKnows obit >>

Williams' role in our lives didn't stop short at our fathers' appreciation, though. That doughy, goofy face was everywhere when we were growing up. While we may not have fully understood it, his role on Mrs. Doubtfire probably exposed us to our first glimpse at a cross-dresser. That film probably even helped usher in the acceptance and love our generation has towards the homosexual community. It's disheartening that there's a group of children out there right now who have no connection to the line, "Run by fruiting."

Following Mrs. Doubtfire came some of our first glimpses into adventure, thanks, again, to Williams. Disney clearly had made a more concerted effort to showcase the voice actors behind Aladdin than they'd done in prior movies. Knowing Williams voiced the loony, fast-talking Genie seems like something I was just always aware of, not something I learned later as an adult. Because of him, we watched a scrawny street urchin become a prince. The year before that, we let Williams play a game with our imaginations in Jumanji. Stretched out in front of my grandmother's box set television and clinging tightly to that couch pillow, I can easily say I watched that VHS and screamed along with Mr. Parrish dozens of times. And Hook. It's still the only Peter Pan movie that matters and, once again, I found Williams as a father figure each time I watched and reenacted the film. Williams was more than just an entertaining character on the television, he was practically a babysitter and, without a doubt, a tour guide to insanity.

Over time, Williams' role shifted for me and my generation. Patch Adams introduced us to Williams' more serious acting chops. Good Morning, Vietnam went from obscure Sunday morning silliness on the couch with Dad to a veritable history lesson, narrated by my second-favorite guy. My dad, bad hearing and flat feet, did not go to Vietnam. I think Williams' version made him particularly sad to have missed out on that experience, no matter how terrible it truly was... or how much of a hippie he was at the time. Dead Poets Society went deeper, darker and somehow more uplifting. I remember watching Williams and his class march around the quad. I wanted a teacher that inspiring. I looked everywhere for a Captain, my Captain. (And did, eventually, find one of sorts in a certain history teacher named Mr. Sciacca, despite never needing to stand on my desk and defend his honor.) That was, of course, my first glimpse at suicide, as well.

Sadly, this will no doubt put a stop to Doubtfire >>

I grew up and my dad grew old and, I guess, Williams slipped back into old habits. But he still held a place in my life. Cuddled up beside a giggling grade schooler, I have watched him bring down the house as Roosevelt in the Night at the Museum movies. Together we have laughed our butts off at those dancing penguins in Happy Feet. And I'm sure she learned some sort of lesson from Robots. If she has one grown-up actor whom she will always remember, I'm aware that it probably won't be Williams. Especially now. He was mine and my dad's and that's OK.

For the record, my dad's reaction to Williams' passing was, "Wow. That is wild. I think he had a lot of demons." There weren't any tears. Not like there were for me. Then, again, for my dad, I think Williams felt like a buddy and, for me, he felt like an extension of my father. Despite my dad's lack of emotion, I know there will be an unfillable empty spot within our family now. Williams' quotes and movies have taken up so much of our lives and brought about so much bonding that I'm positive he's irreplaceable. And I'm positive I'm not alone in this feeling.

Robin Williams’ 5 best TV appearances before The Crazy Ones >>

Williams was pronounced dead by emergency personnel at his residence today around noon. Though the actor had been a victim of previous death hoaxes and details about what happened are still not being reported, the Marin County police have confirmed his death and suspected suicide, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Though the actor was privately troubled, he still managed to warm audience's hearts and make us laugh through characters ranging from Mrs. Doubtfire to Peter Pan. Williams was revered by almost everyone who was familiar with his work, fellow actors included, and his peers wasted no time today in sharing their emotions over the tragic loss.

Levine did comment on the hairstyle on Twitter, following its debut on The Voice, which earned the singer a lot of flak. "I hope people understand that when they say my hair looks creepy I take that as the highest compliment."

We think Franco would agree with Levine.

Franco is no stranger to mixing up his hairstyles. How could we forget those infamous braids that were a character in their own right in his film, Spring Breakers. Or what about that long, stringy surfer look he rocked in Pineapple Express?

The motive behind his new bleach-blond hair is still a mystery. Could Franco be prepping for a film role? Or was he just feeling some new summer highlights and went a little extreme?

What do you think of Franco's new blond tresses?

20 Lessons Robin Williams taught us about life and love

Why Robin Williams was a significant part of my life >>

1. "No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world." —  John Keating, Dead Poets Society

We all remember that one teacher in school who actually inspired us. Robin Williams may not have been a school teacher in real life, but his role as John Keating will never leave our hearts.

2. "Real loss is only possible when you love something more than you love yourself." — Sean Maguire, Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting made big stars out of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, but Williams was really the glue that made that movie stick. Without him, Hollywood may not have taken the film seriously.

3. "I try to make sense of things. Which is why, I guess, I believe in destiny. There must be a reason that I am as I am. There must be." — Andrew, Bicentennial Man

Even as an android, Williams could find deep emotion in his dialogue.

4. "I've seen things you've only seen in your nightmares. Things you can't even imagine. Things you can't even see. There are things that hunt you in the night. Then something screams. Then you hear them eating, and you hope to God you aren't dessert. Afraid? You don't know what afraid is." — Alan Parrish, Jumanji

Fear is a powerful emotion and probably one Williams knew well given he battled addiction. We hope he is resting in peace.

5. Jack Lucas: Where would King Arthur be without Guinevere? Parry: "Happily married, probably." — The Fisher King

Parry was another weighty role, played with incredible lightness by Williams. In fact, we can't imagine anyone else in the part.

6. "Sometimes you got to specifically go out of your way to get into trouble. It's called fun." — Adrian Cronauer, Good Morning, Vietnam

We'll never get the croon of his long, drawn-out morning greeting, "Goooooood moooorning, Vietnaaaaaaam" out of our heads.

7. "You see, Ork is a planet. You follow the Big Dipper til it comes to a dead end then you hang an up." Mork, Mork and Mindy

Directions from an alien. What's not to love?

8. "If we were interested in making money, we wouldn't have become teachers." — Phil Brainard, Flubber

Williams was cast over and over as a character who acted on behalf of others, rather than himself. In real life, he must have been a selfless person in order to understand them.

9. "What some folks call impossible, is just stuff they haven't seen before." — Chris, What Dreams May Come

Williams was always the dreamer.

10. "You own that big expensive car out there? Oh, dear. Well, they say a man who has to buy a big car like that is trying to compensate for smaller genitals." — Mrs. Doubtfire, Mrs. Doubtfire

Many of us can relate to dealing with our ex's new spouse — somehow, they're never good enough for the husband or wife we once loved. Here, Daniel as Mrs. Doubtfire insults Stu (Pierce Brosnan) where it hurts. The joke is a bit of a cliché now, but back in 1993, it was hilarious. Sadly, it doesn't look like we'll ever see Mrs. Doubtfire 2, which is currently in development.

Here are some other Robin Williams quotes we like. Though not from movies, they are sidesplittingly funny and so ironic.

11. "If women ran the world, we wouldn't have wars, just intense negotiations every 28 days."

12. "If it's the Psychic Network, why do they need a phone number?

13. "Ah, yes, divorce. From the Latin word meaning to rip out a man's genitals through his wallet."

14. "Why do they call it rush hour when nobody's moving?"

15. "I'm sorry, but if you were right, I'd agree with you."

16. "We've had cloning in the South for years. It's called cousins."

17. "Okra is the closest thing to nylon I've ever eaten."

18. "You're given one little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."

19. "Cricket is basically baseball on Valium."

20. "Reality is just a crutch for people who can't cope with drugs."

Stop what you're doing and make sure your toothpaste isn't causing cancer

The antibacterial and antifungal agent commonly is found in antibacterial soaps and some say it is harmful.

According to Colgate-Palmolive, its Total toothpaste is safe and it was put through a stringent Food and Drug Administration approval process in 1997. Closer investigation showed that some of the findings used to prove triclosan's safety were not available to the public until this year.

Colgate’s Total application contained 35 pages of studies on triclosan that the FDA released this year after a Freedom of Information Act request, but now a few scientists working with Bloomberg News say the toothpaste should be put under evaluation again because new research is showing that the chemical can be harmful. Some studies have found it to disrupt the endocrine system and cause cancer, though some people say the concentration used in common products is too minute to cause a significant problem.

Colgate said it documented more than 80 clinical studies involving 19,000 people to find that Total is safe. Thomas DiPiazza, a spokesperson for the toothpaste company, said it submits yearly reports to the FDA covering new science and safety findings.

"In the nearly 18 years that Colgate Total has been on the market in the U.S., there has been no signal of a safety issue from adverse-event reports," DiPiazza told Bloomberg. More recently, a review conducted last year by the Cochrane Oral Health Group found the product to be completely safe.

Thomas Zoeller, a biology professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, said about 800 to 1,000 chemicals can disturb endocrine function and triclosan is one of about 10 that people are exposed to on a regular basis.

Worried about your Crest, Aquafresh or Sensodyne? Procter & Gamble, which makes Crest, said none of its products have contained triclosan for many years, and GlaxoSmithKline said they reformulated all toothpastes that previously contained it, but a spokesperson could not say if versions containing triclosan were sold in America.

There's something else in your coffee and it's not cream or sugar

According to research presented at an American Chemical Society meeting, a test is in the works that could help you spot unwanted fillers. The good news is that the fillers are not harmful. They instead give producers more bang for their buck.

"With a lower supply of coffee in the market, prices rise, and that favors fraud because of the economic gain," says research team leader Suzana Lucy Nixdorf, Ph.D.

In Brazil, for example, plant diseases and droughts have all impacted coffee supplies. That's why a test to detect fillers is becoming more of a must-have. (Oh, and the fact that most of us drink java like fiends)

According to a 2012 Royal Botanic Gardens and the Environment study conducted in the U.K., 70 percent of the world's coffee supply could be gone by 2080 due to climate change, but we're already seeing shortages emerge. Brazil usually produces about 55 million bags of coffee per year, but they'll probably only have about 45 million bags this year. That's about 42 billion fewer cups of coffee for this year.

"With our test, it is now possible to know with 95 percent accuracy if coffee is pure or has been tampered with, either with corn, barley, wheat, soybeans, rice, beans, acai seed, brown sugar or starch syrup," she says. The problem is that "after roasting and grinding the raw material, it becomes impossible to see any difference between grains of lower cost incorporated into the coffee, especially because of the dark color and oily texture of coffee."

Her team is looking at several fillers that are considered impurities rather than adulterants, many of which are parts of the coffee plant that shouldn't be in the final product... such as coffee berries, twigs and even dirt. Mrs. Doubtfire sequel in doubt after Robin Williams' passing

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox was working with Williams and director, Christopher Columbus, to make the film a reality. There was already a second draft of the movie being written by screenwriter, David Berenbaum.

Celebs celebrate and remember Robin Williams >>

Without its charismatic star in the cross-dressing role, there will probably be no sequel. A SheKnows writer noticed that Williams' IMDb profile had Mrs. Doubtfire 2 listed as "announced" on his filmography earlier on Monday, but it has now been removed.

Several of the original cast members, including Matthew Lawrence, were reportedly ready to join the former Mork & Mindy star for the sequel.

Lisa Jakub, who played Lydia Hillard in the film, told the Huffington Post, "I'm in the same boat as a lot of other people. I'm kind of wondering how they're going to come up with a storyline that's going to do the project justice. But I feel like if anybody can come up with something that is both hilarious and also very meaningful, it is going to be this team. We'll just have to see where they'll take the plot. Nobody has talked to me about the sequel, so I really don't know what I would say."

Why Robin Williams was a significant part of my life >>

Mara Wilson, who played the youngest child, Natalie, was against a second movie. She tweeted in April, "For the record, no, I do not have anything to do with the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel, nor will I. I've been in some mediocre movies, but I've never been in a sequel. And I have no interest in being in one now. Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think Doubtfire ended where it needed to end. I'm glad I had the chance to be in it, and I'm proud of what we did, but I don't see how we could do it again. There are many, many reasons I don't want to be in Mrs. Doubtfire 2. But they haven't even asked me [yet], so no need to worry."

While the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel is probably canceled, Williams also had several finished films that will be released later this year, including Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Merry Friggin' Christmas. Next year, he will be on the big screen as Dennis the Dog in the live-action comedy, Absolutely Anything. He also has the indie film, Boulevard, with Bob Odenkirk, which is still seeking distribution.

Williams died on Monday at the age of 63.

Bachelor in Paradise review: You're only in paradise once

15 Seriously hilarious photos posted by The Bachelorette men themselves >>

Let the couple shuffle begin. Relationships are already crumbling while others are sparking. Thanks to two new guys this week, Zack and Chris, the dynamic in the house is entirely changed.

YOPO!

Instead of YOLO (you only live once), the Bachelor in Paradise contestants decide YOPO (you're only in paradise once) is fitting for their time on the island. This seems to have less to do with finding connections and a lot more to do with getting drunk.

Ben is the ring leader in the partying games, but he doesn't have a connection with anyone in the house. Nor is he really going out of his way to get to know anyone. Why? Turns out, it's because he has the love of his life back home. Due to a series of very coincidental events, Marcus finds a love letter among Ben's things and the house confronts him. He admits that he has a girlfriend back home and leaves paradise.

Best quotes on Juan Pablo from The Bachelor's Chris Harrison >>

Michelle is super upset by the turn of events. More because we think she'd had a little too much to drink than that she actually felt betrayed. Luckily, she has Robert, Marquel and longtime friend Graham, who are more than willing to comfort and reassure her.

The friend zone

Dylan wants to explore getting to know other people before zeroing in on Elise. When he expresses this desire, she gets offended and flirts it up with Chris to make Dylan jealous. It backfires. Majorly. Dylan checks out of the relationship completely, putting Elise in the friend zone. She, on the other hand, harps and harps on the relationship, convincing herself there's still hope.

Part of us feels bad for her. Dylan did, after all, say he wanted the two of them to see other people. It seems like he wanted to have his cake and eat it too, which maybe just means he wasn't ever as into Elise as she was into him. He kept making comments about how she was smothering him. Ouch!

INTERVIEW: Could host Chris Harrison be the next Bachelor? >>

Unfortunately for Dylan, it's the ladies who are handing out the roses. Dylan's last ditch attempt to make a connection with Sarah fails. He turns down Elise's offered rose and is sent home as a result. We think he made the right decision to forgo the rose, though. Especially considering how set he was on not getting to know her anymore.

Right reasons, right reasons

First Michelle K. then Ben. Chris Harrison laments before the rose ceremony that the events this week remind us all why dating sucks so much. You never know if people have the "right reasons." The below video is all we pictured tonight when Harrison was talking. Remember this? Get it Bachelor in Paradise people.

The Bachelorette right reasons

The Bachelorette right reasons

Still, despite Harrison's words, we don't think everyone is on the show for the right reasons. Newcomer Chris gives us the creeps. Elise should send him packing. And fast. Aside from calling the lovable Dylan "fat Matt Damon," he led Claire on and doesn't seem shy about hooking up with anyone who will have him. He's totally playing the game. We're not fans at all.

Switched at Birth review: Love isn't always about words

Watching this episode of Switched at Birth immediately after hearing about the death of Robin Williams was a sad, but unique experience. I almost put off watching it until later in the evening just so I could give myself a little time to absorb what happened, but I'm kind of glad I didn't. Though I never met Mr. Williams (well, except for that time I sat across from him during a visit to the set of The Crazy Ones and he smiled at me), I was devastated by the news of his death.

Switched at Birth sneak peek: Daphne gives up, Bay steps up >>

I felt like I always understood Daphne's pain over losing Angelo. After all, I too lost my father much too fast and much too soon. But when the hurt is fresh, you remember what it feels like and I started to get a new understanding of what she's been going through all this time. I could almost get why she went for the pills, though I was relieved she didn't actually take them. She let her pain fester until it became anger and she used any method she could think of (drugs, screaming at her mother, dating Nacho, committing vandalism) to hide what she was really feeling.

In the end, Daphne's downward spiral finally came to a halt when she realized just how much damage she had done — to her family, her friends and herself. But it wasn't until Kathryn found her crying at Angelo's death site that we truly comprehended what she had been trying to bury deep inside. It wasn't just losing Angelo, it was the realization that she'd never told him she loved him. Her anger for everyone else was really anger for herself. Kathryn found the best possible thing to say to Daphne when she told her that love wasn't always about words and Angelo had always known Daphne loved him. It was a gut-wrenching moment made harder by dealing with a fresh pain myself, but I was glad that Daphne finally said what was on her mind so that Kathryn could help her.

Switched at Birth review: Who's ready to get their life back? >>

As for Bay, I adored how she used Angelo's memory to fight back for some friends. It is hard to believe that there might still be schools with such an antiquated view of something as unimportant as a dress code. Respectful is one thing, but dictating boys in tuxedos and girls in dresses was just silly. I almost saw the principal's point about there being rules everywhere and you can't always dress the way you want. Not that I agreed, but I was following some of his logic. That is until he made the comment about "girls dressing like freaks." Then I was done. So I was glad that Bay and her friends made their own prom outside.

I was also happy that Tank and Toby forged a new friendship throughout this episode. Both of them are sorely in need of friends so it was good that they got past their little rift and moved on.

Is Switched at Birth setting a good or bad example for the deaf community? >>

Overall, everyone made some good progress and did things to be proud of in this episode. Now we just have to see what happens in next week's summer finale to find out if Daphne's change of heart came too late to undo the damage she had already done.

My favorite bits:

Emmett's prom corsage for Bay. That was sweet.

Bay talking down about prom king and queen, until she found out it was her and Emmett. Oops.

Finding out that Hilary had decorated Natalie's car. So sweet.

Toby: "Paper? Have you lost your mind!?"

Toby asking if clip art was still a thing. Ha!

Tank taking down all the other flyers before putting up his own. Brilliant.

Toby in a toga. That is all.

Knowing that Bay would be coming down in a suit even before she came down the stairs. Way to go, Bay!

Everyone showing up in tuxes. That was awesome.

Toby and Tank backing off their heart-to-heart as soon as it got close to a bro-hug situation.

Team Tux walking into the prom, like bosses.

Bay: "If they can't go in, I don't want to be queen of this prom."

Kathryn reassuring Daphne that Angelo knew she loved him because it's not always about words.

PHOTOS: Fashion blogger owns up to photoshopping her body

Dana Suchow: Fashion blogger posts 5 unedited photos she wishes she didn't Photoshop

Her headline reads, "Photos I wish I didn't Photoshop," and it exposes a handful of times she used the editing program to change the way her body looks. It was a simple slimming of the tummy here and there that started to weigh on her conscience.

"It's weird, because I stopped manipulating my weight in photos with Photoshop about a year ago. But I just felt like I had lied to my readers and needed to come clean," she tells SheKnows. "I Photoshopped the images in the beginning of starting my blog because I wanted the money type of success," she said. Since those days, she's learned to measure success differently.

"I don't make any money from my blog, so from a fashion blogger business perspective, I am a failure. But to me success is being honest and true about myself no matter how large or small my audience. It's receiving a letter from a young girl in Sweden telling me I made her feel better about her body for a moment. It's looking at my blog and being proud of the content." You better cheer for that like teenage girls screaming for Ryan Gosling.

Too often, it's assumed that if you don't look a certain way you can't be a certain type of person or work in a certain industry... and too often, we believe it. Thankfully, more and more women are proving us wrong.

Still, fashion bloggers treat Photoshop like another shoulder to lean on. It's like an addiction the industry can't break. "Fashion is synonymous with beauty and perfection, and fashion blogging is big business. Fashion makes millions selling perfection to the imperfect, and an imperfect fashion blogger is a tough sell," says Dana.

But here comes the silver lining. When I asked Dana if she ever felt pressure from brands to look a certain way, it was a big fat no. "By now brands know who I am and what I'm about. I think my realism and honesty appeals to them. They know there might be a feminist rant along with their pretty necklace shots. It's a chance they've got to be willing to take." So, stand your ground. You be you and don't hold back.

Hilariously, she says that wedgies are the only thing she edits out these days. (I can respect that). She also stresses that Photoshop isn't the enemy. "It's an amazing program that can make a cloudy day look sunny, it can bring out the greens and blues of a dress so they pop and it can make a blurry photo look like it was taken with a steady hand." Rather, we need to stop abusing the privilege that is Photoshop.

Her message to women and girls everywhere? "Don’t believe anything you see. If you can't touch it, it's not real. The only real thing that will support you through life is your body. And that's something you can hold… right now."

Lastly, she says, "Imagine if women put just half the energy we put into trying to change our bodies into trying to change the world. Imagine what an amazing place it could be."

We'll leave you with that.

Can high heels really kill your orgasm?

0
0

Back in the day, a study conducted by Italian urologist Dr. Maria Cerruto concluded that a pair of moderately high-heeled shoes tones your legs and strengthens your pelvic muscles. "They directly work the muscles which are linked to an orgasm," she says. (And all the designer shoe brands in all the land rejoiced.)

She found that women who held their foot at a 15-degree angle to the ground (about that of a two-inch heel) had as good posture as those who were wearing flats. It was concluded that the pelvic muscles were at an optimum position to help strengthen and improve their ability to contract (in other words, lead you to a much bigger O).

However, the findings from Dr. Cerruto's study don't suggest that stilettos are a good thing for improving pelvic floor function, and other experts tend to agree. Christian Louboutin became famous for saying high heels are sexual because the arch of the foot is exactly the position of a woman's foot when she orgasms, and while this is sorta true (it's called "plantar flexion"), "I know many women whose feet go into dorsiflexion (where your toes point back to your shin) during an orgasm," says certified sex counselor Eric Garrison, "And what shoe does that?"

So while wearing a moderate heel might give you the option of taking a breather from Kegels for a while, stiletto-height heels are bad, bad, bad. With what high heels do to your posture, it goes without saying your pelvic region will be affected. If the arch of your shoe replicates the way your pelvis tilts when nearing an orgasm, it makes sense that you may end up immune to the pleasure. Dr. Eden Fromberg of SoHo OBGYN said it best: "An orgasm is usually like going from zero to 60. If you're already at 55 [from wearing heels], you're not going to have a full experience."

I'm more inclined to believe this to be true, especially considering what we know when it comes to repetition in our workout routine: When you don't switch things up, your body adapts to the repetitiveness of your workout and you reach a plateau. In the case of wearing heels 24/7, once your body adapts to the repetitiveness of your fashion choice — well, there's no plateau in sight.

While there's no hard evidence to suggest either one of these theories is 100 percent accurate, I'll use any excuse to take a trip to Aldo to expand the variety of my shoe collection. Who's coming with me?
