Dog passes out

Dog passes out

Anyone who isn't a dog lover needs to see this video. After two years of being apart, Rebecca Ehalt's pet Schnauzer, Casey, was more than ecstatic to see her. As a matter of fact she was so excited over their much needed get-together that she passed out in the street. No need to fear, the dog is absolutely fine... but her mom, well, she's an emotional wreck. Overwhelmed by her pup's crying and momentary loss of consciousness, she was overcome with tears. I'll bet this Schnauzer's reaction was so heartfelt, that little Casey will soon be packing her bags to live overseas with her mama.

Spicy Swiss chard mac and cheese

0
0

I have the best summer memories as a kid centered on Swiss chard. I know, a totally bizarre thing to conjure up childhood memories, but anytime I eat it, I think of my mom gardening while my brother and I either splashed around in the pool or ran around the yard with the neighborhood kids in an impromptu game of soccer.

Spicy mac and swiss chard

It wasn't a big garden, but in my kid head, it seemed to give us unlimited amounts of Swiss chard, zucchini and tomatoes, which we ate pretty much nonstop for August and September.

Too bad Mom wasn't throwing it into mac and cheese like this creamy recipe, though, because there would've been a lot less dinnertime complaints if that were the case!

Spicy Swiss chard mac and cheese recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch Swiss chard, washed and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 4 ounces ground hot Italian sausage (optional)
  • 8 ounces pasta
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes. Once fragrant (about 2 minutes), add the Swiss chard and sausage (if using), and toss to coat. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the Swiss chard has wilted and the sausage is browned. Drain the water and fat from the pan, and set the pan aside.
  3. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  4. Once the water is boiling, add the pasta, and cook for about 2 minutes less than the directions specify.
  5. Drain the pasta, return it to the pot, and add the cheddar, cream cheese, milk, salt and pepper. Using a spatula, toss to combine until everything is melted and creamy.
  6. Add the Swiss chard mixture from the pan to the pot, and toss again.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish, and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes, until the edges start to crisp and brown.
  8. Remove the mac and cheese dish from the oven, and let it sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Will Justin Bieber's 226th Make-A-Wish at Young Hollywood Awards help clean up his image?

Zayn Malik and 14 other celebs' shockingly insightful quotes >>

Bieber has been a big supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation for years and he is passionate about helping children suffering from life-threatening conditions achieve their dream. The singer was on hand Sunday night for the Young Hollywood Awards to help Grace Kesablak, a 10-year-old cancer patient.

According to Cody Simpson, who introduced Justin Bieber, Make-A-Wish grants a wish every 38 minutes and Bieber holds the record for most wishes granted by a recording artist ever. Back in 2013, he passed 200 wishes.

"Despite his relentless schedule, Justin has been genuinely committed to granting wishes since the very beginning and a strong supporter of Make-A-Wish," Make-A-Wish America president and CEO, David Williams, said of Bieber back in 2013. "Justin understands the impact on a child of a wish-come-true and how it can create positive changes in their outlook, help them feel better, and even influence their health."

The fact that Bieber's legal issues overshadow his charitable acts can at least partially be attributed to the fact that he isn't incredibly vocal about the wishes he grants, except when he is trying to promote Make-A-Wish's mission.

Justin Bieber drops new beats via Instagram >>

"I don't do any of these for recognition," Bieber said during his speech. "I do it because I love it and because I love to make them smile.

"All grace has ever wanted was to be a celebrity, so everybody can you please give a big round of applause and a big scream and a big roar for Grace," he said to the little girl at the award show. "This award is for you."

Lucy Hale gets comfy at the Grand Ole Opry in new video

0

Just a week after performing the tune in front of audiences on So You Think You Can Dance, Lucy dropped the Philip Andelman-directed music video, which marks her second single off her debut album, Road Better. It's a pretty simple concept: Take on the legendary venue and find time to goof around in the Nashville air. Shots of the band tuning up and making things just right for the performance fill in scattered shots of Hale owning it like a pro on the lightly-dimmed stage.

Lucy Hale shares the secret behind her success: I never had a plan B >>

"Lie a Little Better" may not be a fitting song to actually hear on Pretty Little Liars, but the lyrics surely do make a connection with the show. "The truth is I'm fallin to pieces/Anytime that you're around/Trouble is the truth keeps slippin out," she belts during the country track.

Just before Lucy dropped her album, she took to the Opry for her debut performance and even tweeted about the big night, admitting that she's dreamt of the moment since she was a little girl. Looks like the moment was so moving that she wanted to relive it forever in the form of one of her music videos.

Hilary Duff trades work for the beach in new music video

Hilary Dufff SK V2

"Chasing The Sun" is a lighthearted summer song where Duff steps back into her Lizzie McGuire shoes and sings about living in the moment without a care in the world. It's an easygoing and cute affair, but hits more Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles territory than we had expected or even wanted. But again, at least Duff is back to her bread and butter.

"Won't miss out on the fun/ Gotta get it while our hearts are young/ I'm chasing the sun," she croons atop a melody that sounds like Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up the Sun."

Hilary Duff's morning chop: See pics of the cut>>

In the video for the clip, Duff plays a nerdy office employee stuck in the mundane routine of 9-5 office life. To pass the time away, she finds herself in a series of daydreams on the beach with a piece of eye candy from a magazine. Envisioning herself in a black bikini, Duff sees herself being rubbed down and given a massage by her ripped lover boy. Unfortunately, she soon wakes up from her vision and realizes she's only being rubbed by her odd office cubemate with mayonnaise. Yuck! After a number of antics, she learns her lesson the hard way and is sent packing home.

Bottom line: Never hire Hilary Duff to do any work in an office because she's basically going to make a complete embarrassment of herself and daydream her time away.

Blake Lively's new website: What not to do, as shown by Gwyneth Paltrow >>

The night was hosted by the Iron Man 3 star and her mother, Blythe Danner, in honor of family friend Simon Pegg, who stars in the movie.

Even though they were together inside the party, outside the venue in front of prying media lenses it was a different story. Paltrow posed for photos on the red carpet alone at the UA Theater. The Coldplay singer entered through a separate door and did not stop to have his picture taken.

Once inside, the separated couple spent time chatting together with Danner and several other friends. The night extended into the after-party at Serena & Lily Beach Market in Wainscott, New York.

Pegg, who is the godfather of their oldest child Apple, had only lovely things to say about Paltrow and Martin.

Zac Efron opens up to Bear Grylls about rehab, addiction

Bear Grylls and Zac Efron shirtless? This year, Christmas comes July 28 >>

Efron joined Grylls for his show, Running Wild, and admitted he got to a point in his life where all he cared about was partying.

"You can have some real challenges, and I know, you know, you were very honest about when you went to rehab and stuff," Grylls said to Efron, according to the Mirror. "What kind of led down that road?"

"The challenging part was never the work, you know, that was never it," Efron replied. "It's sort of the inbetween.

"The social aspects outside of it, I mean everywhere you go to a certain extent, there is press of some form. I mean whether you're going out to an event, where you're supposed to be out with friends, there will be press there, if you are leaving your house to go to the grocery store, there will be press there."

Although Efron never admitted exactly what his vice was, he explained that the pressure of his celebrity — plus feeling alone — was what eventually led him to want to get help.

"It can be everywhere, and it's, you know, it can be confusing," he said. "You spend a lot of time in your house going crazy, you know pretty soon you need a social lubricant."

NPR reporter Margot Adler loses her battle with cancer

She began her career with the radio network back in 1979 as a general assignment reporter.

James Shigeta dies at the age of 81 >>

NPR's vice president for news, Margaret Low Smith, reminisced about her work. She said in a staff announcement, "Her reporting was singular and her voice distinct. There was almost no story that Margot couldn't tell."

While she covered heavy stories like the AIDS crisis and 9/11, Adler had moved into reporting on cultural affairs and the arts in recent years. She managed to land the first U.S. radio interview with Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling.

One fascinating aspect to the veteran journalist's personality was her interest in the occult.

As Low Smith explained, "Margot was not only a brilliant reporter, she was also a Wiccan priestess and a leader in the Pagan community. That was deeply important to her, and she wrote a seminal book about that world: Drawing Down the Moon. She also wrote a memoir called Heretic's Heart."

It also extended to her fascination with vampires. She recently released Out for Blood, which focused on society's obsession with the bloodsucking creatures. Her research began when her husband of 33 years had his own battle with terminal cancer.

She read 260 vampire novels during his illness. She talked about why her interest developed while her husband was sick to NPR's Neal Cohen.

Fifi Geldof slams critics over sister Peaches' death >>

Adler said, "He was the healthiest man on the planet, I mean literally. You know, he was a runner. Unlike me, he'd never done any drugs in the '60s. He'd never smoked. He ate perfectly, you know, one of these people. And he only lived nine months."

She continued, "Basically I started out, it was a meditation on mortality and death, and I started realizing that some of the different attitudes that he and I had about death, he was definitely kind of the high-tech guy, rage, rage, rage, you know, take every supplement, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I was kind of more like we're all part of the life process, you know."

Adler had battled endometrial cancer for three and a half years until the cancer began to metastasize in her body about three months ago.

She leaves behind her 23-year-old son, Alex Dylan Gliedman-Adler.

Prince Harry spotted in a royally-epic photobomb

Fox's fake Prince Harry tricks 12 women in new reality series >>

While at a women's swimming event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday, the prince was caught in a photobomb so amazing, it's hard to believe it wasn't planned. Prince Harry jumped in a picture being taken of former Olympic boxer Trevor Shailer, rugby coach Sir Gordon Tietjens and sports psychologist Gary Hermansson, according to People magazine. Shailer was so kind to post the photo in all of its glory on his Facebook page. "Photo of the day... A royal photo bomb by Prince Harry with Titch (Sir Gordon) and Gary Hermansson at the Swimming venue tonight," reads the caption. "Thanks to Bev Hari for taking the pic... Fun times supporting our athletes at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games!!"

Prince Harry photobomb

Prince Harry photobomb

Prince Harry is not the only one in the royal family who has been busy photobombing at the Commonwealth Games this year. None other than the royal matriarch and Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, made an adorable appearance in a selfie of Australian hockey players Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris last week. In the photo, Queen Elizabeth is flashing a huge grin as she peeps through a fence behind the two girls.

Although Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, are perhaps the most well-known royals in the world at present time, they continue to show that they have a sense of humor and somehow manage to stay down to earth. In May, the brothers were in the U.S. for a wedding and shocked the media with their very normal behavior. While at the reception, Harry, who is known for his love of partying, was spotted leading a crowd of dancers to the wedding standard, "Shout," and one witness said that the prince was twerking Miley Cyrus-style on the dance floor. After the wedding, a photog snapped a pic of Wills riding coach from Memphis to Dallas before catching his connecting flight back to the U.K.

Pit Bulls and Parolees star opens up about second chances

0
0

In the new season of her Animal Planet show, Pit Bulls & Parolees, Torres takes viewers into the heart of her fight to save what she calls “the world's most abused and maligned breed.”

It all started with a chance meeting in an animal shelter between Torres and Tatanka, a pit bull that emerged from a gruesome drug shootout as the only survivor. Tatanka became a part of Torres' family and inspired the creation of what would become her life's work, the Villalobos Rescue Center, the largest pit bull rescue in the country. She came up with the idea to employ parolees with her husband, A.J., who was paroled after serving 14 years — giving both stigmatized dogs and men a new start.

Pit Bulls and Parolees star talks second chances

In 2010, Torres and her “functional dysfunctional” family headed to Louisiana and found what she calls a “whole new world” compared to Los Angeles, with generations of ingrained habits in the community, like driving with a dog in the back of a pickup and chaining dogs in the backyard — both terribly inhumane.

“These things are just totally natural here," Torres says, “but I'm coming into their world, dealing with generations of learning how to treat animals.”

But, she adds, just like with her animal friends, it's all in the approach. “These are nice people, they just want a little respect,” she adds.

One of the biggest surprises Torres says she has encountered in Louisiana is the sweet relationship the local police have with the pit bulls they encounter on the job.

“We have really gotten an overwhelming response from the police force here,” she says. “They're just so happy to have a place where they can bring them where they know the dogs won't be put down.”

Villalobos Rescue

Villalobos Rescue

But Torres adds that her work is terribly tiring and sad a lot of the time. There is just so much need for her services and so little resources to support the Villalobos Rescue Center. The organization receives no government support and relies on private donations for about 90 percent of its operating budget.

Find out more about Torres, her family and her remarkable work with pit bulls when the new season of Pit Bulls & Parolees premieres on Sept. 27 at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).

ESPN host suspended for just one week for domestic violence comment, but is it enough?

Hope Solo weds man accused of assaulting her >>

Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens was suspended for only two games after a domestic violence arrest in Atlantic City — he was seen on camera dragging his unconscious girlfriend out of an elevator. ESPN decided to take up the issue and host Stephen A. Smith upset just as many people for suggesting that a domestic violence victim may provoke their abuse.

"What I've tried to employ the female members of my family — some of who you all met and talked to and what have you — is that... let's make sure we don't do anything to provoke wrong actions, because if I come — or somebody else come, whether it's law enforcement officials, your brother or the fellas that you know — if we come after somebody has put their hands on you, it doesn't negate the fact that they already put their hands on you," Smith said on ESPN's show, First Take, according to Yahoo.

It was a colleague of Smith's at ESPN, Michelle Beadle, who first called out Smith for what he had said. She took to Twitter to share her disappointment.

Smith eventually gave an apology, but his suspension was announced on Tuesday.

"On Friday, speaking right here on First Take on the subject of domestic violence, I made what can only amount to the most egregious error of my career," Smith said. "My words came across that it is somehow a woman's fault. This was not my intent. It is not what I was trying to say."

Domestic violence: How one woman survived the abuse >>

ESPN decided to suspend Smith for a week for his remarks, but was it enough?

"As many of you know, there has been substantial news coverage in the past few days related to comments Stephen A. made last Friday in the wake of the NFL's decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games following charges of assaulting his then fiancée, now wife, a few months ago,” said ESPN president, John Skipper, to the company's employees in a memo obtained by Sports Illustrated. "We've said publicly and in this space that those remarks did not reflect our company's point of view, or our values. They certainly don't reflect my personal beliefs."

Tell us — was Stephen A. Smith's punishment of a one-week suspension enough? Should it have been more severe? Or was it a fair punishment?

Finger-lickin' good gluten-free crispy fried chicken

Fried chicken... It doesn't get more comfort food than that, does it? The trick to getting nice, crispy fried chicken skin is a flour coating, but we don't want our gluten-free friends thinking they have to miss out.

Gluten free crispy fried chicken with lemon yogurt dip

This gluten-free version uses a gluten-free baking flour mix and still gets perfectly crispy results. Don't skip out on the lemon dip — it's the perfect lemony tang to go with the spicy wings.

Gluten-free crispy fried chicken with lemon-yogurt dip recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds chicken wings (any other cut of chicken will work too)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2/3 cup gluten-free baking flour
  • Oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1 dill pickle, chopped (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the spices, and mix them together.
  2. Rinse and pat dry the chicken. Place it in a large bowl. Toss with the spices, cover, and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  3. Remove the chicken from the refrigerator, and toss with the flour until well coated.
  4. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat enough frying oil so that it comes up the sides about 2 to 3 inches.
  5. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken in batches. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5 to 7 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.
  6. Transfer to a paper towel-lined rack to drain.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, parsley and chopped pickle (optional, but the pickle gives the sauce a nice dill tang), and serve with the hot chicken.

You don't need to be a foster parent to change a child's life

0
0

The foster care system is crowded with so many children who just need a little bit of guidance and support to make it in this world. Maybe you aren't in a position where you can be a foster parent, but there is another way to connect with a foster child who just needs a stable, reliable adult in her life. A court-appointed special advocate can make a huge difference in a young person's life.

What is a CASA/CASR?

A court-appointed special advocate (CASA) or court-appointed special representative (CASR) is a person who has been trained by the court system to work directly with foster children and be the go-to adult in their lives, their voice in the midst of an often confusing system. Because they are court-appointed, they have the unique ability to really look into the life of a child and advocate for what's best for him individually. There are over 950 CASA organizations currently operating all over the U.S., with 75,000 volunteers who each donate their time to make the life of a foster child better.

"If you look at all of the CASA websites, you will always see the term, 'voice,' or something related to it used," says Suzanne Ordas Curry, president of the county CASA chapter in her New Jersey town. "That's because that is exactly what they are. They are the adult that listens to them and speaks for them. They are the adult that sees everything that goes on and faithfully and impartially advocates on their behalf," she adds.

Making a difference

Suzanne Strisower is a former social worker and foster parent who is passionate about the CASA program. "For me, one of the important things about the CASA representatives is that they are trained by the courts, and because they are a court-sponsored body they have a special connection to the children," she says. CASA volunteers are able to do many things with their kids without jumping through legal hoops because of their special role. "Kids in foster care often have a court-appointed social worker, an agency social worker, a foster family, tutors, a biological family and a CASA representative," says Strisower. "The CASA representative only has an interest in the child, and is just one more person who cares about the child and can play a special role in the child's life. They are fantastic people who go the extra mile and carry a heavy weight with the courts, which can be very helpful," she adds.

"I didn’t have a CASA volunteer appointed to me but I am sure my case would have benefited from one and I would have had a better outcome," shares Devan Petersen, a former foster child who works with youth in an independent living skills program. In her job, she sees the value having a CASA brings to a foster child's life. "These youth have been placed in foster care at no fault of their own, there is this negative stereotype on them, and many are told that they are going to fail," she adds. "CASAs have changed lives in four simple words — 'I believe in you.' These words hold truth and power, because if someone believes in me then it means I can believe in myself and become anything I want to become."

What is it like to be a CASA?

Susan Small is a CASA volunteer in Union County, New Jersey, who was looking for a way to give back to her community that was meaningful to her. "It’s been an amazing and life-changing experience," she shares. "I work with two sisters, ages 10 and 16, and they have become a huge part of my life. I adore them." Small says that her experience as a CASA has not been at all what she expected, but it’s been a very positive experience and she is so happy she took that leap. "We hit it off right away and have a really fun time when hanging out together. They are usually quiet around adults and other people in the court system, especially the younger one. But they are chatterboxes when I’m with them. I love that they feel free and open with me to speak about whatever they like," she adds. "That’s important as a CASA."

Small says the best part of being a CASA is that you are actually making a difference. "Not only are you building a relationship with your CASA kids but you are going to court, speaking with [the] judge and actually getting things done for them. All the lawyers and social workers just look at the children’s basic needs such as food, shelter, etc. But they don’t look at the other stuff that really matters to the kids," she adds. One of her CASA kids really wanted to get involved with after-school activities but had no encouragement or help to make it happen. "I was able to get the judge to put this in the court order and sure enough she was able to join her school dance team," says Small. "It’s great to be a voice for these kids who really don’t have one in the foster care system."

Getting the word out

While CASA is a nationwide program, it seems that many people have never heard of it in their communities. "The CASA organization, though national, has seemed to stay under the radar for the most part," Curry shares. "Part of my job as president of my county board is to spread the word. If we had more people aware, we would get more volunteers. If we had more volunteers, we could serve more children. If you can't be an advocate, help your local CASA in another way — there are lots of opportunities for your skills or just your desire to help," she says. "I would encourage anyone, if you have ever considered fostering or adopting, or just have a huge heart for children, this is the place for you."

Get horny with Daniel Radcliffe in new Horns trailer

The trailer for Horns just dropped and it has us hot, hot, hot for Daniel Radcliffe. Not only does he sport a seriously-convincing American accent, but those piercing blue eyes and that scruff-covered chin are totally working for us. Oh, and the horns?

Well...

We might be able to get around those. As long as he's not really the devil that everyone in his hometown of Gideon, New Hampshire, seems to think he is.

Childhood ruined: Daniel Radcliffe shares TMI about sex life >>

Radcliffe plays Ig Perrish, a seemingly-ordinary young man in love, who, after his girlfriend has been violently raped and murdered, becomes suspect number one in her death. While the townspeople gather their proverbial pitchforks, Ig goes on a bender, only to find his forehead sprouting horns the next morning.

As Ig tries to find the real killer, he discovers that his horns have the power to make people confess their sins and give in to selfish impulses, which he puts to good use in his quest for answers and revenge.

TRAILER: Gone Girl trailer No. 2 takes us on creepy ride >>

So, has Ig been marked by the devil, as many a townspeople seem to think? Or could his horns have some other origin? As the trailer progresses, Ig makes friends with a snake and is seen carrying a pitchfork, so there is certainly enough imagery in the trailer to support a hellish conspiracy.

Of course, the other residents of Gideon seem to have plenty of their own strange tics, adding to the overall feeling that nothing is what it seems in this dark comedy by director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes).

Horns is based on the novel of the same name by acclaimed macabre writer, Joe Hill. If its eerily-dark storyline makes you tingle, it might have something to do with Hill's excellent storytelling genes: Hill is the son of revered horror writer, Stephen King.

Horns also features Heather Graham and James Remar, and is scheduled for an appropriately-spooky release on Oct. 31, 2014.

We're not sure if we can wait that long to see the handsome British actor get down and dirty, but it gives us plenty of time to work up our "Horny Harry Potter" Halloween costume for the premiere!

Elizabeth Banks: Sex-shaming is a disservice to young people

Celebrity mom cover stories: Gwyneth Paltrow, Adele, Elizabeth Banks, Kim Kardashian >>

"I didn't quite believe I was pretty for a long time. I never thought about it," she explained, adding that her beauty is thanks to her family. "I'm very genetically blessed, I cannot deny it, but I work hard at keeping myself together. Yes, I have nice cheekbones and skinny legs but I can't take any credit for it."

Although Banks has played all kind of characters — from a CNBC reporter to a doctor to an oversexed bookstore worker — she believes women should gain power from their sexuality, not shame.

"It's a huge disservice to young people to put shame into the equation," she explained. "That's what bothers me the most about it and why I speak so openly about sex. I promote safe sex, always, and abstinence until you are madly in love. But at the same time I have no desire to shame any young person about what's going on in their life or about general sexuality or their bodies."

The actress, who is the mother of two children, may be most well-known now (at least to young adults) as the lovable Capitol guide to Katniss and Peeta in the Hunger Games. Mockingjay — Part 1 will be out later this year and Banks said back in 2012 she always knew the role should be hers.

INTERVIEW: Banks won't make eye contact with teen girls >>

"I wanted to play Effie. I think she's an incredibly complicated, interesting character," she said. "She's someone who's wildly optimistic in the face of horrible circumstances and I love that dichotomy."

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 is out Nov. 21, but the first full trailer is out now.

Susan Sarandon admits to affair with rock legend David Bowie

INTERVIEW: Tammy’s Mia Rose Frampton on how Susan Sarandon plays drunk so well >>

The actress, who split from Tim Robbins in 2009 after 23 years together, says that while she didn't hook up with many famous men in her heyday, the ones that she did get involved with were worth it, according to Us Weekly.

"Yeah, he's worth idolizing," she said. "He's extraordinary. Bowie's just a really interesting person, and so bright. He's a talent, and a painter, and... he's great."

Sarandon says the reason why she didn't get the chance to dabble in the Hollywood dating pool was because she married her college sweetheart, Chris Sarandon, in 1979. "In terms of hooking up with movie stars, I got married really young, which knocked out most of my 20s to be f***ing around," she told The Daily Beast via Us last week. "There have been a couple famous, pretty interesting ones. One rock star (Bowie) and another actor. But I pretty much tend to be monogamous."

The Thelma & Louise star has spoken previously of her tendency towards monogamy. "I've always liked the idea of choosing to be with somebody," Sarandon told People back in 2010 of her long-term relationship with Robbins. "I thought if you didn't get married, you wouldn't take each other for granted so easily. I don't know if after twentysomething years that was still true."

And though her rendezvous with Bowie dates back to 1983 when the couple was working together on a horror film called The Hunger, some of Sarandon's traits are still lingering from the era. The thespian admitted to Andy Cohen last December that she utilizes a little bit of wacky tobacky to calm her nerves before major award shows. When asked by Cohen to name one major Hollywood event she had showed up to stoned, Sarandon laughed, "Only one? I would say almost all except the Oscars."

5 Seconds of Summer was scared to tour with One Direction

Who is 5 Seconds of Summer? 5 Things to know >>

But 5SOS admits they were terrified of joining One Direction out on tour — mostly because of their different musical styles.

"It was all very scary for us because we were a young rock band type of thing," drummer Ashton Irwin told Radio Disney, according to People. "We were very confused by why we would go on tour with One Direction in the first place because it was so different."

But the band realized what a great opportunity it would be and eventually said yes. Irwin explained that, "It seemed like a good idea to grow our music and our live performance [skills]. It would make such a dynamic tour and really explain the difference between the two bands.

"It's cool that young kids get to go home with a bit of education on rock music."

5 Seconds of Summer's debut album is now out in the U.S and the band said they have learned a lot about having all kinds of fans. One thing they are tired of being asked, though, is about the origin of their band name.

"People ask, 'Why is it called 5 Seconds of Summer when there's four of you?'" Irwin said.

Videos MTV snubbed for VMA nominations >>

Guitarist Luke Hemmings added, "I'd change [the name] to '4 Seconds of Summer' just so people stop asking what it means."

"I'd want a name that is so self-explanatory that no one can ask us any questions about it — 'Generic Band Number One,'" Irwin joked.

5SOS's full Radio Disney interview will air on Aug. 4. You can also see them on the cover of Alternative Press, out now.
