Dry vaginas and 5 other things that suck about new relationships

$

0

Now that we think about it, there's really nothing all that awesome about a new relationship. It kind of sucks. Sure, you get sex on the regular without it being with a complete rando. But, all that sex leads to its own issues and then he falls asleep hogging the bed. And what about when you go out for Chinese, come home to watch a movie and then need to, ya know, go? Yeah... relationships are full of less-than-pleasant experiences. We're over 'em, so we made a list to make our point.

1. Too much sex

First you're like, "Yes! I'll have sex all of the time." A week later, your vagina is redder than usual and feeling terribly dry and sore. She's not used to this kind of workout. Ditch the regular soap for intimate wash, like Vagisil Moisturizing Wash, to keep everything properly hydrated.

2. Worrying about your first time together

If you're actually dating someone new and not just trying to continue a relationship with a former hook-up, this might seem intimidating. You'll worry you're not as skilled as his former conquests. He'll worry he's not as endowed as your exes. It'll all work out. But the mental lead-up will suck.

3. Lack of sleep

Boys are huge. Seriously. They take up a lot of space. Aside from the science of sleep cycles that will inevitably keep you from calmly going to sleep and sleeping well until you grow accustomed to each other, there's also the space issue. Dude will finish, roll over and immediately fall asleep — usually in exactly the middle of the bed.

4. Weight gain

Before he fell asleep, though, he got you naked and you might've caught a glimpse of yourself and noticed you seemed a little fluffier than before. One thing nice about dating is all the free meals. One thing not-so-hot about free meals is how quickly they cause you to put on a few extra pounds. And how are you supposed to find time for the gym when there's sex to be had?

5. Awkward bodily functions

Another downside of free meals? What happens directly after sharing a carton of General Tso's chicken. Just remember: Turning on the sink will muffle the sound, but it's still obvious what's going down in there.

6. Explaining bad moods

At some point during the initial phases of your relationship, you're going to PMS or just have an otherwise awful day. You can try to power through it, but you'll inevitably end up letting your inner b**** out and probably scaring him into a hole. Your best bet: Avoid him until it blows over. But be prepared to explain.

We're being jerks. Of all the suckiness that comes with new relationships, nothing is as awesome as the high you get from being around a new love. Discovering everything about each other is a game. Sex feels like a whole new experience. And, eventually, sleeping feels a whole lot warmer. Just power through.

Why your vagina wishes it were your face

$

0

There are a zillion soaps for your face and, like, two for your vagina

There's a whole freaking aisle at Target devoted to cleaning your face. Meanwhile, products aimed at a clean, healthy vagina are limited to the back fifth of the half-aisle devoted to tampons and pads. And it's mixed in with the condoms, lube and yeast infection products. While it's important to let our vagina do her thing and not over-clean her, there are soaps specially designed to balance your pH levels or help you out if things feel dry down there, like Vagisil Moisturizing Wash. Why aren't we giving those more attention?

And lets not forget all the other skin care products that aren't vagina-friendly

Sometimes our vaginas get bumps and we immediately think, "What even is going on down there?" Are they pimples and can we use some zit cream? Or is it something more serious? (And how long will we ignore that possible bump?) There is probably something we can do to avoid this issue. But, we'll put off asking about it until it's too late and requires the weird/painful-sounding procedure to fix it.

Speaking of worrying: How freaked out are you by rashes on the rest of your body?

If we get a rash on our arms or legs, we immediately call the doc. Feeling itchy between our legs? We'll try ignoring it as long as possible. Finally, we turn to home remedies. Then, maybe, we will go after some yeast infection creams. There are multiple reasons we could be feeling itchy. But, when it comes to our vaginas the last place we want to go is the gyno. We blame the speculum.

We bedazzle our faces & hide our vaginas

Think of all the added attention we give our faces to make them pretty and show them off. We wear our faces proudly while our vaginas sit trapped away with very little personal time under unbreathable undies and constricting skinny jeans. If your vagina could speak, she'd probably scream, "Let me out! I need some air and sunshine." Sadly, if you listened to her, you'd probably end up arrested.

This is getting out of hand. We could blame the product makers or store merchandisers, but that's probably unfair. They can only sell what we're willing to buy and we're the ones ignoring our vaginas and opting for more bronzer, new mascara and better lip balm. To paraphrase Mahaa Gandhi, "Be the change you wish to see in the bathroom." Want big companies to take your vagina more seriously? You first.

Few things are more frustrating than trying to pretend you like someone whom you cannot stand. Maybe it’s conflicting temperaments, not getting each other’s humor or irreconcilable differences when it comes to politics or religion. In any case, the Venus/Uranus square on July 31 shows that it’s time to stop pretending. Go ahead and speak your mind. Not only will it be a tremendous relief to both you and this other person, but now that you don’t have to try so hard to be friends, you may actually experience the first real stirrings of affection.

In the weeks to come, you’ll notice that people begin to behave. No more snarky loved ones, feuding in-laws or angry children making their exits behind slamming doors. For some mysterious reason, everyone will be more kind and loving and good-humored. Did somebody put something mildly hallucinogenic in the water? Actually, the reason for this is Jupiter. Jupiter in Leo bequeaths good things, and you’ll soon see each person get something he or she dearly wants. This will do a lot to alter a negative mindset. People get along better when they have rather than when they have not.

It will be friends and associates who will be profiting this week and not you. That’s what comes of lucky Jupiter forming a conjunction to Mercury, the planet of siblings, BFFs and frenemies. They won’t be profiting at your expense, so don’t worry about being cheated or exploited. However, their uptick in fortune will force you to question the sincerity of your friendship. If you’re truly happy for their successes, then you will see some of their good fortune rub off on you. If not? Then you may see sides of yourself that aren’t particularly flattering.

Shake-ups in the hierarchy of your life could leave you feeling frazzled this week. This could result in the sudden departure of a boss, the ousting of a superior or even a parent handing over the reins of authority to you. It will be overwhelming to find yourself pushed forward to fill the void, but this is not the time to hesitate. At worst, this will only be a temporary situation until a replacement can be found. And at best? Well, you may just find that you’re more capable of taking the lead than previously thought.

Watch it with the gambling when Mercury, the planet of games, conjoins Jupiter, the planet of good fortune, on Aug. 2. One would think that this is a good thing; it bodes well for windfalls and strokes of luck. However, you won’t know when to quit when these two planets combine forces in the heavens. You’ll feel so enthused and like you’re on a roll that you could lose everything you win. If you’re going to gamble, then be sensible. Hand your purse to a friend, and listen to her when she tells you to cash out.

Don't be surprised if you get headhunted this week. You may not think much of your abilities, but other people do. One of the peculiar things that you’ll experience with Jupiter traveling through the “look at me” sign of Leo is that you will be getting a lot of unsolicited attention. This is good because you tend to downplay your talents and gifts, and you could use the ego strokes. Meanwhile, go ahead and agree to an interview. Even if you’re not actively looking to change jobs, it will be nice to know what your market value is.

It will be everything you can do to keep the peace when Venus forms a square to Uranus on July 31. This is when just about everyone in your life will go berserk. You can expect to be kept busy putting out fires, mollifying tempers and practicing damage control like you haven’t practiced it in a very long time. The great unspoken about all of this is that you may have inadvertently been the cause for the current fracas. Hopefully, no one will put two and two together, but if somebody does, then you’ll have to come clean.

Now that ruling planet Mars is firmly ensconced in your corner of the sky, you’ll start to get more respect. You probably aren’t doing anything differently, but Mars tends to add a swagger and a “don't mess with me” ‘tude when it’s traveling through your sign. You can use this to strengthen your grip on any embattled situations or to push through an important agenda. The only thing to watch out for is trouble with men. Mars is the manly man’s planet, and men might feel the need to lock horns and put you in your place.

You were born under a sign that’s famous for falling in love with long distances and exotic locales. So, when’s the last time you visited one? A rare Mercury/Jupiter conjunction on Aug. 2 in that part of your solar chart that pertains to long journeys shows that any trip taken at this time will have a dramatic impact on your life. It may even inspire you to relocate there one day. And if there isn’t a trip in the works, then you’ll want to purchase one at this time. You could score an amazing deal or unique accommodations.

Dramatic changes in a loved one’s life on July 31 will have a direct impact on you. The Venus/Uranus square can bring breakdowns, but this one looks linked to an unexpected breakthrough or last-minute save from the jaws of defeat. It will be exciting and game changing in its overall effect. This will release you from months of anxiety and tension, which will be good. However, being a Capricorn, you will undoubtedly find something new to worry about. Just remember that this really is a turn for the better, and that you will benefit from the consequences.

You might want to quietly go back the way you came when Venus squares Uranus on July 31. This is when tensions between two factions in your life reach the breaking point. This could be co-workers in one department training their paperclip missiles on the one next door or one set of relatives getting ready to rumble with another. Both will try to rope you into taking their side, so find a way to politely excuse yourself from the showdown. Unfortunately, you won’t escape scot-free, so expect to be on hand next week to help pick up the pieces.

What could add insult to injury in your work situation? How about a reduction in pay. It may not be as overt as all that. It will likely be more subtle, like a loading on of “temporary” responsibilities, two jobs being consolidated into one (yours) or being asked to put in longer hours than you already do. You’ll want to protest but don’t. There’s always a higher plan at work when Jupiter is influential like this, so work with developments as they unfold. Chances are they’ll lead right to where you wanted to go all along.

Even if your love life's a wreck, your body's always in top shape. Some women turn to the refrigerator for solace, but you turn to the gym. The exuberant Mars/Jupiter square on Aug. 1 says it's time to stop sulking. We're entering the hot days of summer and now's the time to show off that figure of yours. Admittedly Mars/Jupiter squares are more athletic than romantic which means you'll probably spend more time comparing body fat percentages than you will fooling around, but it still doesn't hurt to show the guys what they've been missing. It's a great ego boost.

Up next: Taurus horoscope >>

You're committed to turning over a new leaf. Whether you're the one who cheated (or was cheated on), the Venus/Uranus square on July 31 shows that you want to make a fresh start. Naturally things will be awkward. It takes time to reestablish rapport and to rebuild trust. Ironically the one thing that won't be hard to restore is the love — which only goes to show that it's been there all along. Perhaps it took a crisis to bring it to the surface? Food for thought, but don't say anything now. It's too early for that.

How did you go from a dearth of possibilities to a flood of choices? That's what happens when ruling planet Mercury conjoins Jupiter in Leo on Aug 2. Leo is the zodiac sign of romance and Jupiter here (Jupiter was named after the Roman god of storms) means that it will be raining men. Fantastic news if you're single because you'll be showered with attention, but potentially problematic if you're already involved because you'll feel like a kid in a candy store. Even if you don't want to wander away, you may be unable to help yourself.

You will never grow jaded. It doesn't matter how many times you've been led up the garden path and right into a brick wall, there's something about your heart that can't be broken. Hearts aren't like willpower. They're more resilient. They grow as much from hurt and sorrow as they do from joy and hope. This week you'll meet someone who could revolutionize the way you look at men. He won't sweep you off your feet or rock your world, but he will surprise and delight you in ways that you didn't believe you'd ever experience again.

You have to watch it with the ego tripping when Jupiter is traveling through your zodiac sign. The planet of good fortune and higher purpose will certainly boost your self-image along with your confidence and charisma. This is wonderful because you've felt like a potted fern lately. However, Jupiter in Leo can also make you feel like you deserve better and this can lead to some reckless and arrogant behavior if you're not careful. Don't throw aside your true friends for people whom you think are more successful. You could be in for a rude awakening.

You may have to keep a love affair secret for now. And it's not because you're fooling around with your boss at work or a girlfriend's husband. The reason looks like you may be getting together with someone you know that your family and friends won't like. Maybe he comes from a different economic background, a foreign culture or he's your ex-spouse. In any case your instinct is right to keep things mum for now because people really wouldn't understand. And besides — you haven't had this much fun sneaking around the backstairs since high school.

Whoops! Did you make a mistake and choose the wrong guy? It looks that way given the abrupt about-faceness of the Venus/Uranus square on July 31. Venus/Uranus squares are famous for eleventh hour revelations. So is it too late to patch things up with the guy you dumped? Not for someone born under Libra. Your powers of persuasion are irresistible. But before you pick up again with the fellow you left, you need to ask yourself if this is really right for both of you. He couldn't take it if you broke his heart a second time.

It's hard to admit but love doesn't work for you in the way it used to. You're accustomed to falling in love with unobtainable men; men who were too perfect, married or gay. Obsession used to fuel the engine, but not anymore. Maybe you've done it too many times or maybe you've just gotten wise. Saturn in Scorpio can have that effect. In any case don't mistake disillusionment for jadedness. You're growing and evolving in mysterious ways. The result will be a richer and deeper love life — preferably with someone who wants to be obtainable.

Summer romance will be the only thing on your mind when Mercury conjoins Jupiter in Leo on Aug. 2. Your patience, calm, dignity and probably sanity. What do you stand to gain? A best friend, a lover, someone who challenges you to be you and unwavering loyalty like you have never experienced before. This relationship won't be easy, but then again, what relationship is?

An obstacle to your happiness vanishes on Aug. 1. This is when circumstances that stood in your way will be removed and you and your lover will be free to run into each other's arms. But expect hesitation. Maybe you don't trust what's happening because it's too good to be true. Or this hesitation could stem from the fear that you may no longer want something you yearned for now that you can have it. Give yourself time to go through this period of adjustment. He discussed his own affection for the book during his Penguins of Madagascar panel, since it was the first book he remembers being read to him as a child. Sure, he's dorky, but literate, too. And hey, I love how they caught Cate Blanchett in the background checking him out. I can read her mind: "A seven-year age difference isn't that much, is it?"

2. Furthermore, female elves/children's book authors love him

Benedict looked awfully cozy-cute with his Hobbit co-star, Evangeline Lily, who recently told SheKnows, "Benedict is just as fabulous as you think he is. What's so laughable about the whole love affair the world is having with that handsome man: I love that he's the epitome of intellect." Yep, we're all just very much in love with his mind. The man has talked about Cumberbatch for ages, once claiming he looked about "seventy-two-feet-four-inches tall" in Star Trek as Kahn. When Barrowman finally met the Brit at Comic-Con, he went into teenage-girl hysterics and said, "Touch me, please." John, we understand.

Lesson to be learned: He may look great in a tuxedo. He may be the epitome of class and style at award shows, but let's face it, Benedict Cumberbatch is a nerd god... and he's not afraid to show it.

Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany brought to tears by fan

The hit science fiction TV series about clones cast — Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris, Dylan Bruce, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Kristian Bruun and Ari Millen — as well as creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson arrived in Room 6A to a standing ovation from their legion of loyal fans, E! News reports.

INTERVIEW: Tyler Oakley talks being a gay role model >>

But it was when the Q&A portion started that the event became really emotional. A teenage girl named Taylor revealed to the panel that the show has helped her accept her sexuality, and realize that it's not what defines her.

"First of all, I wanted to thank you," the fan said. "Before I started watching this show, I was really in the closet and I was totally ashamed of who I was. I just hated myself... I started watching the show and seeing Cosima and seeing that everything is not about her sexuality and she is more than her sexuality.

What is behind America's fascination with Comic-Con and superhero movies? >>

"My parents weren't OK with me being gay," Taylor continued. "I started watching the show with my mom and it's helped us to start to rebuild our relationship. She sees Cosima. And she's seen that it's OK and people are more than their sexuality. And I want to thank you for that.

"My question is, what's it like to have that effect on peoples' lives and know you're changing peoples' lives and making people more comfortable with who they are? You're saving lives. That's what you did for me. So, I just wanted to know: What's that like?"

The comment left the actress lost for words and in tears. "That, I mean..." Maslany replied. "That's amazing. I mean, I have no words. That's incredible."

Maslany and 16-year-old Taylor even shared a selfie together later on, which she posted on her Tumblr account.

10 Celeb style sightings that are so Comic-Con >>

However, Maslany's costar Jordan Gavaris, who plays Felix, did have a few words to add.

"We like to be reductive in society," Gavaris explained. "We reduce people down to their diseases or their gender. People are complex and people are diverse and there are much more interesting things than your sexuality."

Famed Pirelli calendar to feature plus-sized model for the first time

$
0
0

The calendar (like most calendars) is put out once a year and the 12 spots are highly coveted by models and actresses. Part of the appeal is that there are so few made and distribution is limited to a small number of important clients and celebrity VIPs. But the real draw is because the artistic portraits are done by the best photographers and posed by some of the biggest names in the biz.

A look at previous years reads like a who's-who of Hollywood. Previous beauties-of-the-month have included Gisele Bündchen, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Milla Jovovich, Doutzen Kroes, Heidi Klum, Sophia Loren, Penélope Cruz, Brittany Murphy, Amy Smart, Julia Stiles, Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. But a new name is being added to the list this year and it has everyone buzzing: Candice Huffine will be the first plus-sized model to be featured in the 50+ years the calendar has been made.

"My presence on this set — the most glamorous in the world — is a sign that things are really changing," she told Vogue.

And this is some good change happening. With the average U.S. woman being a size 14 (the size at which plus sizes start), approximately 70 percent of the population fits the definition. Yet plus-sized women have been woefully underrepresented both in stores and in fashion spreads. Casting the gorgeous Candice, who has also been featured on the cover of Italian Vogue, Moda and other magazines shows the industry that yes, you can be plus-sized and fashion-forward. (It should be noted that a "plus-size model" is often not the same as a plus-size normal woman. Candice is a U.S. size 12.)

You can also, apparently, be into fetish as the theme for the 2015 calendar seems to be bondage with lots of black leather, skin and bustiers. (12 shades of gray?) Yet a criticism often leveled at fashion spreads featuring plus-sized women is that they are often posed nude or nearly nude, as if modelling lingerie is the only role they can "fit into." And it seems this shoot will be no different.

"Seeing a wider variety of body types in fashion is good, obviously, but associating larger women with sexual availability is problematic (and a total cop-out on the part of the stylist)," writes fellow model Jenna Sauers of a previous magazine cover that featured Candice.

"It seems like we're getting to a place where straight-size models are hired to wear clothes and plus-size models are hired to take them off," noted Dodai Stewart on Jezebel.

And yet despite how frustrating fashion can be, at least we are now talking about plus-size women in fashion, which feels like a win. Candice has definitely earned this, and it's refreshing to see someone who represents a different standard of beauty. More, please!

On the Sept. 28 season premiere, fans will see the characters of the two Fox shows intermingle in the episode "The Simpsons Guy." EW released the clip after it was screened at the Family Guy panel at Comic-Con over the weekend.

10 Celeb style sightings that are so Comic-Con >>

The plot revolves around the Griffins finding themselves in the Simpsons' town of Springfield. While the families bond over doughnuts, their friendship might be tested by an argument over Pawtucket Patriot Ale versus Duff Beer. The disagreement even leads to an action-packed fight between Peter and Homer.

Just by watching the five-minute clip, any viewer knows they are in good hands when Peter Griffin utters, "Don't drink the water, everyone around here looks like they have hepatitis."

In turn, Homer Simpson notes the Griffin family's pale existence. He tells Kwik-E-Mart owner Apu, "A dozen doughnuts for our albino visitors."

What is behind America's fascination with Comic-Con and superhero movies? >>

In addition to the crossover episode, the Family Guy audience can also look forward to the return of Jesus to Quahog, a jam-packed slate of guest stars including Liam Neeson, Julie Bowen and Allison Janney as well as some quirky story lines where Meg gets recruited to be a foot-fetish model.

The exciting news is that Family Guy might finally get the feature film treatment. At the Q&A, director Peter Shin shared, "We kind of started… pre-work on it a couple years back, but I think it's on hold right now because Seth is filming Ted 2. But I think maybe in the future it might happen."

3 Women who played surprising roles in World War I

Although Sophie remains a side note in the history books next to her husband's assassination, her role in the launch of the bloody war foretold a new age where combat and war were no longer only business of men.

There is so much that has changed since that terrible war which claimed the lives of more than 37 million people worldwide, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Justice. When the U.S. entered World War I in 1917, it left a vacuum on the home front which required women to leave their traditional roles and enter the workforce and other areas of society once only accessible to men.

Women for the first time worked in the military as nurses, in factories and held government positions. In fact, it's the roles women assumed during World War I which are credited with helping get women the right to vote in 1920 with the passage of the 19th amendment.

Many women heroes and notable figures emerged from the horrors of World War I and showed that the fairer sex had plenty to contribute. Here are three examples of women at the start of the 20th century with some decidedly 21st-century attitudes. Spoiler alert: Things don't end very well for any of these envelope-pushers.

Mata Hari gained notoriety as the "greatest woman spy in history" during World War I as a sexpot who traded in war secrets. Although born in Holland as Margaretha Geertruida Zelle, she posed as an Indian courtesan and put on wildly popular shows where she would slowly strip nude doing exotic dances she claimed she learned from a priestess. She kept a roster of high-placed military lovers and was later accused of revealing secrets in the heat of passion. Eventually Mata Hari was arrested as a spy and executed by French authorities in Vincennes by firing squad. According to sources, the evidence surrounding her conviction was shaky as best.

Dorothy Lawrence was a 20-year-old English journalist who enlisted in the British Army in 1915 by passing herself off as a man. Although the move was brazen, she revealed her true identity after only 10 days. Her presence among the men was later explained away by labeling her a prostitute.

Edith Cavell: The smuggler

Edith Cavell was a British woman who served her country in World War I as a nurse. She's remembered as a hero for working with colleagues to smuggle hundreds Allied soldiers out of German-controlled Belgium. She was later found out, arrested by German forces and executed by firing squad in October 1915.

Mike Sorrentino slapped with anger management program

Sorrentino and his brother were involved in an altercation last month at their family's tanning salon in Middletown Township, New Jersey. Apparently, Sorrentino accused his brother, Frank, of "not running the store correctly, so I had to go in there and clean house — in more ways than one."

The Situation gets the last laugh: Abercrombie stocks drop!

The altercation landed the reality TV star an arrest last month and on Monday, July 28, he was ordered by the New Jersey municipal court judge to attend anger management classes as part of a deal to resolve the assault charges, the Star-Ledger reports.

Alec Baldwin appears in court, is scolded by judge >>

Sorrentino also revealed to the Star-Ledger earlier this month at the opening of his family's second tanning salon that he was confident that the charged would be dismissed.

"It was a simple situation that was blown out of proportion, and the family and I will handle it as it comes and move on from that," Sorrentino revealed.

Sorrentino agreed in court on Monday that he would attend a private, one-on-one program and judge Richard Thompson stated that if the 32-year-old star completes his program, then the charge against him could be downgraded to a lesser violation.

The Situation will not be trademarking his catchy name >>

Sorrentino's family has not turned their back on him, either, and his mother, Linda, younger sister Melissa, and both his brothers, Marc and Frank, were present for his hearing.

So, how does Sorrentino feel about the anger management sentence? It appears that he's welcoming the thought.

"I don't know if I'm excited, but if that's what's needed… maybe it will help me out," he revealed to TMZ.

Kiefer Sutherland made Freddie Prinze, Jr. want to quit acting

Comic-Con 2014: 24 movie still has "potential" >>

"I did 24, it was terrible," Prinze said. "I hated every moment of it."

But the actor explained it wasn't the show itself that made him hate the experience, but rather the show's star.

"Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world," Prinze said. "That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face. I think everyone that's worked with him has said that."

Although Prinze's appearance on the show didn't last long, it made enough of an impact on his life to know who to work with in the future — or at least who not to work with.

"I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped," Prinze said, but added that he realized he'd have to work with people he didn't like no matter what industry he was in — including a stint with Vince McMahon at the WWE.

"At least he was cool and tall," the actor joked. "I didn't have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do [with Sutherland]."

24: Live Another Day Season 2 needs to happen and here's why >>

A rep for Sutherland responded to ABC News after Prinze's interview went viral and took the high road, "Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze, Jr. more than five years ago, and this is the first he has heard of Freddie's grievances."

"Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best."

Family Guy heads to Springfield to meet The Simpsons >>

In the flagship series, readers will experience the immediate days after the destruction of the first Death Star in Star Wars.

Writer Jason Aaron told Marvel.com, "Every story is about the characters, and we'll focus on all the old favorites. There will be big moments for everyone, from Han to R2-D2. But a major part of the narrative will be driven by Luke Skywalker and his journey of discovery, a journey that will decide the fate of the entire galaxy."

Darth Vader will be released in Feb. 2015 with the return of the Imperial Forces of the Galactic Empire. Writer Kieron Gillen plans to take a psychological look at the evil villain.

Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany brought to tears by fan >>

He said, "Vader's the sole survivor of the greatest military disaster in history — and a disaster that he definitely had a hand in by letting the rebels escape with the plans for the Death Star. This is not a thing which leaves you in anybody's good books, let alone the Emperor's. The great thing about this period [between Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back] is what we don't see on the screen. Vader learns who Luke Skywalker is at some point between the two movies, to choose but one example."

In March, the five-issue limited series, Princess Leia, debuts. She must face the fact that her home is destroyed, but she tackles the setback to become one of the Alliance's greatest leaders.

"Does she choose to be a Princess of nothing — or does she set out to rebuild her heritage and civilization?" says writer Mark Waid.

Fans will be able to answer all of those questions beginning in 2015 in a galaxy far, far away.

Michaels craft store allegedly tells breastfeeding mom to sit facing the corner

Mom says she was asked to nurse outside

Nursing a baby in the summer heat can be a challenge, so why would anyone suggest that a mom dash outside to breastfeed? That's what one Missouri mom says happened when she was at her local Michaels craft store, and she's understandably upset about it.

Jessa, her mom and her baby girl were shopping at the Brentwood, Missouri, Michaels for first birthday supplies when it became clear she needed to nurse her little one. She reports that in addition to being asked to go outside, they were extremely hesitant to help her. Finally, someone placed a chair facing a corner in the craft room for her to nourish her child. Yes, you read that right — she and her baby were put in the corner.

Jessa Marie

Jessa Marie

So, let me get this straight. In addition to breaking the law by asking her to go outside, they then literally put her in a corner to breastfeed her baby. After Jessa was annoyed and humiliated by Michaels employees who didn't have a clue about breastfeeding rights and laws, she took her complaint to management via a phone call later that day. She says the manager she spoke with was condescending, gave an insincere apology and asked her to bring in a copy of the state law that spelled out the legality of feeding a baby.

Breastfeeding in public is legal

I've breastfed four kids, and it can be miserable to nurse when it's hot outside. You're hot, the baby's hot and the sweat you both generate is a sight to behold. There are ways to make it more comfortable, but asking a mother and her small child to go outside when it's over the century mark is truly ridiculous and cruel.

But there is another angle to consider. In Missouri, as with every other location in the U.S., moms have the legal right to breastfeed their children anywhere they are allowed to be. There are also laws in Missouri that specifically protect nursing moms from being charged with indecent exposure. Also, breastfeeding cannot be considered sexual conduct, obscenity or public indecency. So honestly, while the weather was a factor, it's not the only reason she should be upset. If someone had suggested that I tote my child and myself outside to nurse, whether it was hot outside or not, I would have been just as peeved as Jessa is.

The entire corporation isn't to blame for one store's misguided employees and management, but training needs to come from the top, which is where the changes need to be made. If they don't have a company-wide breastfeeding policy, one needs to be implemented ASAP. If they do, then they need to make a much more concentrated effort to train management and staff. Asking a nursing mom to step out to nurse her kiddo is not only seriously uncool, but it's illegal. I hope they make it right with Jessa and use this opportunity to make their stores a safe place for nursing moms and babies.

This old church was transformed into a gorgeous modern home

Foster Dale, a Chicago-based architect, has a knack for turning unconventional structures into homes for modern families. Dale prides himself on sustainable design, and nothing is more sustainable than turning a building that may otherwise be torn down into a home that a family can enjoy for years to come. We asked him to share one of his renovations with us — an old church, built in 1904, that he transformed into a dream home for a young family.

Unlike your average home, designing a space for a modern family in a building filled with large windows, high ceilings and vast spaces means you really have to get creative. "The challenges faced in converting unconventional structures to a residential use often involve creating a residential scale while maintaining the original character, the memory, of the unconventional structure or space," Dale said.

Transforming an old building into a home doesn't just preserve the building itself, it preserves the history of the entire neighborhood. "This allows the residents and the community to interact with the past. We think that this makes a community richer and a better place to live," Dale said. In addition, it prevents a ton of material from ending up in a landfill and drastically reduces the carbon footprint that would typically be involved in building an entirely new structure.

The church

The goal of the design was to create a functional space for the family while still preserving the original character of the church building. What used to be the sanctuary became the kitchen, breakfast room, living room and dining room. To take advantage of the high ceilings and maximize the light, two loft-like spaces were created for the master bedroom and office. The loft spaces, which are reminiscent of old choir lofts, honor the former glory of the old church while providing a modern, architectural element to the home. Classic and original elements, like the wood beams and the shape of the windows, create a juxtaposition with the modern elements, like the spiral staircase and steel beams.

The design plans were created in an effort to respect the original exterior structure, so the goal was to make sure that none of the windows were compromised. "We 'floated' the study, the master bedroom loft and the new steel stair away from the large windows to respect the integrity and the strength of the large window openings. These new elements are inside of the existing 'box' of the building, but they only touch the outside walls in a very respectful and restrained way," Dale explained.

The church tower now serves as the home's entry. The original attic was removed and the brick was exposed to create a grand entrance that encapsulates the history of the church building. While much of the original stained glass couldn't be preserved, the original character was preserved by carefully selecting replacement windows that were congruent with the original look. A garage was added at the rear of the building, but they were able to use the same brick as the original structure so that it would not appear to be an addition.

The end result is the perfect blend of old and new, giving the family a dream home filled with history. "We like to think about the design process for this kind of renovation, the creation of the architectural story, as being a conversation between three parties. These three parties are the needs of the clients, the opportunities that the existing building provides and the ideas that we, as the architects, have been exploring, sometimes for years. The joy that a client shows when this conversation results in a great architectural story, in their new and wonderful home, is the best part and why we love to transform an unconventional space into a functional home," Dale said.

Kevin Smith, Ben Affleck feud is Jennifer Garner's fault

When asked if Affleck would be in town to make an appearance as Batman at this year's Comic-Con, Smith responded, "Great question. I don't know because we're not f***ing tight. I have not been [close with him] in decades," according to Yahoo Celebrity.

Kevin Smith booted from Southwest flight >>

It seems as if Smith is a little bitter about his friendship going south and he wasn't done elaborating on the situation. "That's old Ben. He's got a wife that don't care for me at all. And plus, honestly, he probably don't care for me anymore. He's a triple A-list movie star and s*** like that. If he's Jimmy Carter, I'm Billy Carter, to put it in '70s terms. And I'm not even related and s***."

This isn't the first time as of late that a former friend has called out a member of the Garner/Affleck union. Just last month, Mark Ruffalo, who co-starred with Garner in 13 Going On 30 in 2004, said that the two are no longer in touch and his reason why sounds a bit similar to Smith's. "We had a great time together, and I think we would," he said to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. "But then Ben [Affleck] came on the scene and that was the end of that."

As if controlling relationships outside of their marriage isn't bad enough, there have also been rumors that Affleck's gambling habit has gotten out of control and is causing issues with Garner. Affleck was escorted out of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino last spring after being accused of counting cards and Garner was reportedly mortified. According to a source, the couple, who have three children together, got in an argument upon returning to their hotel room and the actress screamed at her husband, telling him "he needed to quit gambling for good."
