Constantine: Why we're ready for a superhero who isn't perfect

Constantine, the smart-a**

Superheroes are supposed to be perfect, right? They are strong, usually have some sort of superhuman power (though not always) and are always there to set a good example and, of course, save people. But NBC is ready to bring a new kind of superhero to TV screens. His name is Constantine and he's not perfect at all. In fact, he's a little bit of a bad boy, and we like it.

RENEWED: TNT wants more Major Crimes, The Last Ship, Falling Skies >>

The cast and creators of the new NBC show were on hand at the Television Critics Association event held in Beverly Hills this week, and they discussed how they won't be shying away from Constantine's bad habits.

The show is based on the DC comic book series Hellblazer and is about a man who is a demon hunter and master of the occult. NBC's official synopsis describes Constantine (who will be played by Matt Ryan) as guy who is "armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit."

David S. Goyer, executive producer of the show, was always a fan of Constantine's humor. "The thing I loved about Constantine is that he was always a smart-a**. He had a wicked sense of humor," Goyer said, adding that the character was "just a regular bloke."

Constantine's dirty habits

The first fault that Constantine has — and probably the biggest — is that he's a guy fighting against evil, but his own soul is already damned to Hell. He once wanted to give up the fight, but now he's being dragged back in. It's a dilemma that brought up an interesting question at the event: If Constantine is fighting evil in the hopes of redeeming his soul, isn't he defeating the purpose by not fighting simply for the sake of good, rather than for personal benefit?

EXCLUSIVE: New Outlander trailer promises steamy romance >>

It's an issue they will be confronting on the show. "Should we be good to get an award, or be good to be good? We will be dealing with all of those kinds of questions," Goyer said.

Another fault of Constantine's that is featured heavily in the comics is his smoking habit. The creators said that it's a characteristic that won't be taken away from him in the TV series.

"He is a smoker in the show," Goyer said. "We are not shying away from it, but we are not glorifying it."

We need an imperfect hero

With all of his faults and imperfections, Constantine actually seems like the perfect superhero for modern television. Gone is the time when heroes had to be portrayed as people who never made a mistake. These days, viewers are aware that the people behind the masks are just that: people. They come with their own set of faults and we like it that way.

Portraying a superhero lead character as a man who's made some major life mistakes, but is doing his best anyway, gives us regular folks someone to look up to. None of us are perfect and we don't need our heroes to be either. So we say let Constantine curse and smoke. Let him walk the line between doing good for good's sake or doing it for a reward. We want to see him falter, screw up and make things right. It's a struggle we all live with, so why not see someone — even someone who is supposed to have superhuman qualities — go through those issues as well?

EXCLUSIVE: Behind the scenes with the Satisfaction stars >>

But will he be bisexual?

Fans of the comic series will recall that Constantine was bisexual, but don't expect him to start sleeping with men on the TV show. It was a question that came up at the panel as inquiring minds wanted to know how that aspect of his character would be handled.

"In those comic books, John Constantine aged in real time," Executive producer Daniel Cerone said at the event. "Within this tome of three decades, there might have been one or two issues where he's seen getting out of bed with a man. So [maybe] 20 years from now? But there are no immediate plans."

Are you ready for an imperfect hero? Do you plan to watch Constantine when it airs on NBC this fall?

Blake Lively's happy to share her life with Ryan Reynolds

The loved-up pair married in secret at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, in 2012 but it's not often that the Gossip Girl alum opens up about her marriage. However, in the August 2014 issue of Vogue magazine, Lively decided to share some deets on what a beautiful man her husband is.

Blake Lively's new website: What not to do, as shown by Gwyneth Paltrow >>

"He's a part of it because everything we do in life we do together," Lively told the magazine about her relationship with Reynolds. "If I'm working on a movie, he helps me with my character; I do the same with him. Picking out a coffee table. What we're going to eat. He's a beautiful writer — he's written a lot of stuff for us. And he's got a great barometer and he knows me, so he will tell me if it's not as good as it can be."

So, after two years, does the couple intend to expand their little family? Well, if Lively's recent comments are anything to go by, we may be seeing her sporting a baby bump sooner than expected.

Blake Lively had a frigid introduction to marriage >>

"He's going to be a great father and leader and patriarch — he's so meant to be all of those things," she said of Reynolds. "The fact that he lived so much before we got together, he's the exact realized person that he should be. And so I get to share my life with the person he's become, and we get to grow from there."

Lively is loving married life, which is evident in her comments about her husband, but her wedding was almost not the wonderful fairytale experience that she had dreamed of. However, luckily for the blond beauty, she had Martha Stewart to come to her rescue.

"Our wedding was becoming a disaster, and we didn't know what to do, so we called Martha! She said, 'Don't worry. I'll handle it,'" Lively recalled to Vogue. "She sent her team down to save us. And then she called her friends who have a home in South Carolina and set us up at the most amazing getaway. This is the day of our wedding!"

Shanesha Taylor news coverage

Shanesha Taylor news coverage

Shanesha Taylor was arrested in March after her young children were discovered in a closed car, where they had been for most of an hour. Temperatures that day were reported to be close to 100, but they fortunately escaped injury. After her arrest, support poured in, and a fundraiser reached well over $100,000.

Charges will be dismissed

Today, it was announced that the charges against her will be dismissed as long as she completes a diversion program that includes parenting and substance-abuse classes. She also must establish an education and child care fund for each of her three children.

Taylor's children were uncomfortable, but thankfully they were unharmed. She reported that she had no child care that day and was attempting to get a job. She felt she had no choice but to leave her kiddos in the car while she went to the interview.

Her case illustrates the plight of those without the means to get themselves out of a difficult situation. If you have no easy access to child care and have no money to hire someone to watch your kids, what do you do when you get called for a job interview — an interview that can get you and your children what your family needs?

History reflects that other parents who leave their children in hot cars, who emerge unharmed, are also often offered plea deals or probation, so Taylor's ultimate result is not unusual. Hopefully she will complete her classes and she and her family will be better off for it.

Florida dad bloodies man caught raping his son

$

0

The Daytona Beach, Florida father arrived home at 1 a.m. on July 18, 2014 to discover 18-year-old Raymond Frolander sexually assaulting his son. His natural instinct, as I can imagine any parent's would be, was to attack. The 9-1-1 call paints a chilling picture for parents everywhere.

"I just walked in on a grown man molesting... ," he told a dispatcher. "And I got him in a bloody puddle for you, officer."

According to reports, Frolander lived next door to the family and has been abusing this boy since he was 8 years old. "The 18-year-old was almost like a family member," said Daytona Beach police chief Mike Chitwood.

As a mom, and a single mom at that, I completely agree with what this father did to protect his son. Frolander was left nearly unrecognizable, and later told police that he was guilty of the sexual assault.

In all honesty, I am impressed with the restraint this father used in detaining the alleged molester. I'm not sure that I could have done it. I think I would have grabbed for something to cause much more permanent damage.

Child molestation is a severe problem in our country. A new case of abuse is reported every 10 seconds, according to the Tennyson Center for Children (2012). And those are just the ones who report it. Shockingly, more than 90 percent of juvenile victims know their abuser. It is a crime that knows no cultural, ethnic or religious distinction. It is, in my opinion, nothing short of an epidemic, and it needs to be taken seriously.

With so many cases being reported every day, the question begs to be asked once more... what can we do to protect our children?

Frolander is lucky. If I had my shot at him, he would be missing some important parts. To quote the victim's father, "You are damn lucky, boy, that I love my God."

The father in this case has not been charged with any crime. Do you think he should be? How would you have reacted?

Mediterranean Landscape

Pablo Picasso completed the original Mediterranean Landscape in 1952. This landscape beautifully represents two traits that Picasso was well known for: color and cubism. Picasso's color choices have a simple flair and pop to them that make his work instantly recognizable and beloved by so many. And his use of geometric shapes to create realistic images is still a widely replicated technique. This Picasso print (Art.com, $33) would make an amazing statement piece in any home.

Dish of Pears

Picasso painted still lifes throughout his 70-year career. In the case of Dish of Pears, he used a flat graphic technique and added the white background as a final layer, giving it depth. The abstract combination of lines, shapes and colors make this whimsical art print (Art.com, $12-$31) a fun conversation topic.

Long Live Peace

The Bathers

Dispatches from the singles table: How I had fun without a plus one

$
0
0

It's not that I couldn't find a date. I had canceled three plus ones, changing course every time I played out the evening in my mind. Asking someone to be my date was essentially asking them to meet my closest friends and parents, who happened to be in attendance, and, oh, watch me walk down the aisle and then reflect on a homily about the unremitting power of love. Casual.

The day of the wedding, I joined the rest of the bridal party in the church foyer, excited for my friend in spite of my unceremonious relocation. It was common knowledge that one of the groomsmen had slept with a bridesmaid in college, and that there had been some overlap between this, shall we say, "relationship," and his current girlfriend. To my amusement, we were one groomsman short and so said bridesmaid and I paraded down the aisle as his Side Piece One and Side Piece Two, while his girlfriend debated whether the hymnal or her stiletto would leave a bigger mark on impact.

Later, when the bridal party made their entrance into the reception room to T.I.'s "Bring Em Out," everyone thought it would be funny to pretend like Side Piece One and I were fighting over our groomsman, who I had decided looked a lot like Pauly D sans blowout. We waited for our cue, "Still ballin' money, stack taller than Shaq now."

Later, when I joined my friend, Andrew, and other randoms at Table 5, he asked, "What did you say to that groomsman over there? He keeps looking over and — wait for it -— Miss New Jersey is, too." Channeling my best Guy Fieri, I tore into my dinner roll, letting the crumbs fall at random — unfortunately in my décolletage and on my friend, who had long grown used to cleaning up after me.

Pauly would not be dissuaded by my wolfish appetite. I had an allure that seemed only to persist in women of the Deep South; I ate carbs. I briefly met his eyes and felt as if he was picturing me with a plateful of his mother's spaghetti and meatballs, which, all things considered, wasn't exactly outside the realm of possibility.

I looked away in time to catch the Irishman seated across from me mouthing "Pour Some Sugar On Me" in my direction. Shaking off the last of my crumbs, I let myself be led to the dance floor, where he began to break dance like those 5-year-olds seen only on daytime television or in viral YouTube videos. I looked around to see if anyone was laughing as hard as I was, and saw one of the bridesmaids prodding her boyfriend, who was drunk and nodding off at the bridal table. At least everyone at Table 5 had been conscious.

I found myself dancing with another groomsman, who was single and, of course, had been seated at the bridal table without a second thought.

He was looking at me closely and, only after deciding that my eyes were equidistant, finally asked, "Why is someone like you here by yourself?"

"I wanted to be," I said, and left it at that. My mother had requested "Who Let the Dogs Out," so I took this as my out and politely excused myself to rein her in with a glass of water.

After the reception, the bridal party and a few stragglers took to the hotel patio for cigars. I found myself face to face with a friend of the bride, or, in retrospect, someone who had likely happened upon our reception and saw an opportunity for a good time.

After a few minutes spent laughing at his drunken anecdotes, I realized my cigar was just about done. Someone announced that there was tequila and an after party on the second floor, where a big screen was tuned into Shark Week. I made my way inside, the ice from my drink playing against the glass and the smooth smell of cigar spinning out from the curls of my hair. Taking off my heels, I realized I hadn't done much sitting that night.

Britney Spears dines and dashes on Cheesecake Factory tab

The couple ate dinner at the restaurant and their bill came to a total of $30. The former X Factor judge believed that her bodyguard was going to take care of the bill. On the flip side, Spears' bodyguard was under the impression that the pop star had taken care of the check.

The lovebirds' simple meal of an appetizer and salad became an issue once the waitress realized that the promised payment from the bodyguard was not delivered. According to TMZ, Spears and Lucado had already walked out with a doggie bag of leftovers and were nowhere to be found.

As a result, the waitress was stiffed on the tab and a tip. The good news is that the error was quickly discovered and the group returned to pay their outstanding bill. The waitress was also given a $100 tip for the inconvenience.

Britney Spears' "Aliens": 5 times Britney made our ears bleed >>

Nobody at the Thousand Oaks, California, restaurant seemed too worried about the fact that the singer skipped out on her tab, though. That's because Spears is a huge fan of the franchise and she's considered a regular diner at Cheesecake Factory restaurants.

Senior Director of Public Relations Aletha Rowe said in a public statement, "Britney dines in our restaurants quite often and is a wonderful guest. We know that this was just an honest mistake."

Spears is probably relieved to be back in the good graces of one of her favorite restaurants.

"Seeing Kacy complete the course was incredible," she said. "Obviously, watching guys do it vs. girls — they make it seem so easy. Watching Kacy do it, she made it seem easy, but then I immediately put myself in her shoes and was like, 'There is no way I could do that,' and I think that obviously I relate to her, being a gymnast for so many years just like she was."

For Liukin, it's not just impressive that Catanzaro completed the course, but how she did it. "Everything she does she makes look easy, like we could get up there and do it in our little dresses," Liukin said.

"She is incredible and an inspiration to so many people, including myself."

Liukin has competed in the Olympics and knows how to train for competition. But would she ever consider attempting the course herself?

"I don't think I'd make it very far," Liukin laughed. "Not now. I'm not in full-time training. It would be fun when I was in the best shape of my career, in my prime. I don't think I'd make it as far as she did, though."

Catanzaro said Liukin is one of her inspirations, as well, and she was watching videos of Liukin to prepare for her competition.

"I was obsessed with her," Catanzaro recently told Esquire. "And I say 'was,' but really am obsessed with her. She's just so amazing. Literally, before the finals, I was watching montages of her on my cell phone to get ready to go. That's how much I just adore her. She's definitely the No. 1 for me."

Whoa, mama! Check out MAC's Marge Simpson makeup line

Like many moms, Marge brings a grounding force to her family that otherwise wouldn't be there. She's the glue that keeps them together. Lisa may be the brainiac of the bunch, but mama Marge is the level-headed one. Without her, the Simpsons would have gone off the deep end a long, long time ago.

Just because she's the mother, though, it doesn't mean Marge can't be sexy or have the occasional wild hair. Over the years, we've witnessed her baking erotic goods, inspiring women in a female-only gym, becoming a cop and, of course, flashing the cops. Despite her obvious sex appeal, Marge even had a bout of self-esteem issues that ended with accidental breast implants that somehow made that chartreuse dress fit even tighter. With or without silicone, one thing has always been certain: Homer scored way out of his league when he landed Marge.

Now, if you want to pay tribute to Marge by going golden and cobalt, MAC is offering a whole new line of Marge Simpson-inspired makeup to celebrate the show's 25th anniversary.

From what we've seen, the line includes two signature eye shadow palettes in bold colors you could only find in Springfield, two blushes (with names like "Sideshow You" and "Pink Sprinkles"), an array of bright lip glosses, Simpsons nail stickers and, yes, fake lashes to help you play off of Marge's signature four-lash look.

The collection won't hit stores officially until September 4. However, if you're in San Diego and want to glam it up, Simpsons aficionados and geek girls can scoop up products from the line at the Gaslight District MAC store on July 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hmm... We have time for that, right?

22 Women share why they use birth control — but why do we have to give a reason?

$

I love all these answers and the brave, funny women behind them. But I think this one was my favorite.

Because it's none of your business

Photo credit: Candace Lowry for BuzzFeed

It's such a personal decision but recent politics, like the controversial Hobby Lobby ruling, have made it a very public conversation where women often feel like we have to justify whether or not we use birth control and if so, what type we use. Now something as simple as self-care can feel like a battle.

I am always amazed at the number of comments I get and how many people have an opinion on what I do with my baby-making business. I enjoy other people's opinions and have learned a lot through the process, but some comments speak to a larger issue. It's like our choices about birth control are a reflection of some deeper facet of our selves. By being vocal about what we're choosing, we're forced to make some kind of statement about who we are, what we believe and what it says about us — something I don't think is quite fair. After all, no one ever asks men why they feel like they need condoms.

Being able to control my body and when I have kids allows me to control my life

Photo credit: Macey J. Foronda for BuzzFeed

I've written a lot about my birth control choices and my struggle to find one that doesn't mess with my hormones too much (I learned the hard way that synthetic progesterone gives me anxiety attacks) but will still prevent me from getting pregnant (I have five kids and we are way done). I've tried many pills, both types of IUDs and Natural Family Planning in my quest, and I've learned a ton about myself and my body. Though I started very pro–birth control, I now understand why women also choose not to take it.

Birth control keeps cramps from ruining my life so my uterus and I can stay friends

Photo credit: Candace Lowry for BuzzFeed

Many women have legitimate concerns about synthetic hormones, which can wreak havoc on delicate hormone balances, or about side effects like stroke or infertility. Many women have religious reasons for their choices. And what works for you can change in different stages of your life.

Because I really really love having sex and not making a baby at the same time

Photo credit: Macey J. Foronda for BuzzFeed

Having a kid is a lot (a lot) of responsibility. Women should think about what they want and plan for it with their partners... and I don't think we should have to justify that to anyone else.

Are corporations people? FedEx and Hobby Lobby blur the lines

$
0
0

No one was surprised that FedEx would willingly deliver a questionable pill order. What was surprising was that not one corporate officer was charged with a crime. Not. One.

And before you shrug this off and accept FedEx's defense, which is that it would be impossible to monitor the contents of the more than 10 million packages it delivers daily, you have to get a load of the details of the indictment.

First, prosecutors say FedEx knew illegal pharmacies were using its services, and FedEx even brazenly set up credit policies specific to online pharmacies in order to protect the company if the cops suddenly shut down the shady operations, according to USA Today. In other words, FedEx was doing such a huge amount of business with these black-market pill pushers that if they suddenly stopped, the loss would be so detrimental to FedEx that it needed to take special precautions.

"Many of these companies operate outside federal and state regulations over the sale of controlled drugs," read the new credit policy, distributed by FedEx in 2006. "Drugs purchased from these sites may be diluted or counterfeit. Several sites have been shut down by the government without warning or simply disappeared, leaving large balances owing to FedEx."

It's pretty clear from reading this that FedEx and its management knew it was distributing illegal drugs to dealers and addicts.

But wait, there's more. The indictment alleges that as early as 2004, FedEx knew that it was delivering drugs to dealers and addicts. What's worse, delivery drivers complained to senior management about having to make deliveries to these drugged-out creeps.

"FedEx’s couriers in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia expressed safety concerns that were circulated to FedEx senior management, including that FedEx trucks were stopped on the road by online pharmacy customers demanding packages of pills, that the delivery address was a parking lot, school, or vacant home where several carloads of people were waiting for the FedEx driver to arrive with their drugs, that customers were jumping on the FedEx trucks and demanding online pharmacy packages, and that FedEx drivers were threatened if they insisted on delivering packages to the addresses instead of giving the packages to customers who demanded them," the U.S. Attorney's Office says. "In response to these concerns, FedEx adopted a procedure whereby internet pharmacy packages from problematic shippers were held for pickup at specific stations rather than delivered to the recipient's address."

That's a really bad — and dangerous — day at the office. So, I guess the suits running things at FedEx thought that procedure would take care of it.

The Supremes have spoken: corporations are people. Corporations have free speech thanks to the Citizens United ruling, which equates political contributions with protected speech and corporations with citizens under the First Amendment.

Corporations have freedom of religion, which the Supreme Court just decided as part of the Hobby Lobby ruling, protecting an employer's right to deny birth control to women employees if this conflicts with the employer's "sincerely held" religious beliefs.

Again, not one FedEx officer or senior executive has been charged in this case.

To put this in perspective, if you were charged and convicted of a similar crime, you'd be looking at one seriously long, OITNB-type prison stretch. According to Families Against Mandatory Minimums, a first offense of distributing synthetic drugs would carry a 20-year mandatory minimum sentence.

It's good to be a corporation in America. While protections for everyday citizens shrink, the rights of businesses and corporations grow increasingly bulletproof. FedEx will be back in a San Francisco federal court on July 29.

This isn't the first time Behar has had choice words for political figures. In addition to Palin and Cheney, the comedienne has a strong disliking for presidential candidate Mitt Romney. In 2012, she agreed with Susan Sarandon's remarks about Romney, saying that he is "a Scrooge."

While Palin may not be well-liked by all, she's not totally unqualified when it comes to the media spotlight and being on network television. The former vice presidential candidate currently hosts Amazing America with Sarah Palin on the Sportsman Channel and has enjoyed two stints as a paid consultant on Fox News.

Behar may not want Palin on The View, but she doesn't want to nominate herself for the job either. "I don't need to go back to that particular show," she told Extra. "I have other things I'm doing right now which I enjoy. I like the freelance aspect without having to be somewhere every day."

ABC confirmed last week that former View host Rosie O'Donnell will be returning to the show for season 18, and buzz that former Real Housewife of New York Bethenny Frankel is in talks to join the cast has also been circulating.

Cameron Bure, who has three children with former NHL player Valeri Bure, told Dr. Rachael Ross this week on daytime show The Doctors that she has certain things in her life that she makes a priority to keep her union healthy.

The guys of Full House joke about Alanis' "You Oughta Know" >>

"We have to schedule time together. But the other part is making sure that we stay connected sexually," she told Ross, according to Us Weekly. "That's a very fulfilling part of a marriage. When you're happy sexually, it kinda just balances the rest of the stuff out. You're not so mad at each other, you're not nitpicking at the little things."

Cameron Bure also noted that keeping herself physically fit is a key point in maintaining a fulfilling life, which actually might go hand-in-hand with her marriage philosophy. "I have found that I'm a much happier person, I'm awake longer, I have more energy when I'm being physical, I'm exercising," she said. "My clothes feel better, I feel prettier, my skin radiates."

The Full House actress' candidness about her body and sex life while conversing with Dr. Ross came as a bit of a surprise, considering how bashful and adamant she was about remaining somewhat covered up while competing on season 18 of Dancing with the Stars. Cameron Bure has also said in the past that a major part of keeping her marriage together is taking a submissive role as a wife. "I am not a passive person, but I chose to fall into a more submissive role in our relationship because I want to do everything in my power to make my marriage and family work," she wrote in her book Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose.

While promoting her line of sex toys, the former Teen Mom told AfterBuzz TV, "Sex toys are a healthy thing. I think too many people don't get sex toys and they go off the deep end with partners."

Abraham has had some very bad luck in the love department, but it's hard to make the leap as to why she thinks she knows what might save Wilkinson's troubled relationship with husband Hank Baskett.

When asked which celebrity she'd like to give one of her toys to, Abraham brought up the former Playboy star, who just recently gave birth to her second child with alleged cheater Baskett, to help support her point that sex toys can spice things up in the bedroom.

"I think of Hank Baskett right now," Abraham said. "I heard Kendra and him are having some troubles. I think this might help. I think cheating is bad, sex toys are good."

Wilkinson, who hasn't yet publicly commented on the gossip about her relationship, also has not responded to her reality television comrade's bit of advice.

Farrah Abraham throws shade at Jenelle Evans >>

The young woman we first met on MTV's 16 and Pregnant in 2009 remains single, with a "go where the getting is good" motto for a night out.

"I'm not going to find such marriage material at a club," the mother of 5-year-old Sophia explained. "I do dabble with, like, some businessmen that I do meet. I meet a lot of amazing people who are young and single, and if it works out, it works out."

During the interview, Abraham also shared her line of sex toys now includes three items, all of which are made from a mold of her body, that are strictly for men. She described them as "full-on, back door and hand-stroker."

30 Rock finale: The gang moves on... kind of >>

"Elaine was a 'tough old bird,' but I suspect she may have been a 'tough old bird' since birth," Fey told People. "I loved her voice, her timing, her stories and her natural elegance."

"One day she was wearing a beautiful butterfly cocktail ring, and when I admired it, she gave it to me on the spot — like an Arab sheik in black pantyhose," she added. "I feel very lucky to have worked with her as much as I did."

Alec Baldwin, who played Stritch's son on the show, took to Twitter to remember his friend.

Stritch's agent, Joel Dean, explained the cancer that eventually took the actress's life.

"They took out a good part of her stomach, that was maybe two months ago," he said. "She said, 'They got it all, they got it all.' But it came back quite aggressively."

Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder: Secret rendezvous? >>

Dobrev will appear on the cover of Nylon magazine in August and said that her goal of no drama has helped her stay cordial with Somerhalder.

"I don't like any kind of negativity. I try to be good to everyone, whether it's a love, a friend, an ex," she said, via the Huffington Post. "I'll always try to treat people the way I want to be treated."

Somerhalder also talked with Nylon and said both he and Dobrev have been focusing on staying good friends — even when it comes to the important stuff.

"She always lets me have the last fry," he said.

Vampire Diaries has done a lot for Dobrev's fame, and she said she still has a hard time believing people know who she is. She said, "I really do forget. People feel like they know you when you're in their living room, weekly, for five years. But I always get uncomfortable when people know more about me than I know about them."

"It doesn't feel real because I don't live in that world," she added. "When I go to those [red carpet] events, I'm in town specifically for that, and then I leave later that night. I've maybe stayed for the after party once, ever. It still feels like I'm a fan, in a way.

"A lot of people are very cynical and very jaded, but I'm not there yet."

This blueberry salsa is tangy and sweet. It takes less than 10 minutes to make and will go great with a lot of different things. The ingredients are very simple and don't require very much preparation time. The only things that need to be cut up are some of the blueberries, the cilantro and the red pepper.

If you aren't a seafood fan, you could try this blueberry salsa on top of chicken or even just use it as a dip for chips. Appetizer or dinner, this recipe is a winner.

Is this breed right for you?

Meant as a working dog, the Belgian Malinois is happiest if given a job to do. A devoted companion, it does not enjoy living outdoors or being kenneled. The breed requires regular grooming, sheds heavily once a year and is best in cooler climates. Enjoying family, it needs to be socialized early with both children and other animals. Although the Belgian Malinois does OK with apartment life if efficiently exercised, it does best with a yard. If not trained in obedience or given daily athletic opportunities, this breed may become restless and destructive. The Belgian Malinois needs a strong and dominant owner to avoid any aggressiveness.

breed characteristics

A dream day-in-the-life

The Belgian Malinois will wake up at the crack of dawn to get down to work. After a hearty meal, it'll be out the door, set for its day of guarding and herding. Once inside, this dog will be happy to hang with the family and do a bit of obedience training. It'll be happy to end its day with a run around the block and a bone.
