Jamie Foxx may be next Amazing Spider-Man villain

Jamie Foxx may be the newest addition the Spider-Man franchise, and he certainly acted like it on Halloween by dressing up as the character he is rumored to be playing.

Jamie FoxxThe Amazing Spider-Man sequel just got a little cooler, with a possible addition to its cast. According to Variety, Jamie Foxx is in talks to play Electro, a villain from a Spider-Man comic.

"Electro is the alter ego of Max Dillon, an enemy of Spider-Man who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning," said Variety. "Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #9 in February 1964."

According to the magazine, after the credits rolled in The Amazing Spider-Man, there was a scene with a "shadowy figure," suspected to be the next villain. Because the scene was filled with lightning, many suspected Electro would be in the next film. Director Marc Webb is working hard to stay true to the original comic books in this version of the story — a fact that makes Electro an easy guess.

On Nov. 1, Foxx tweeted a hint that he may be playing the character.

"Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night," he said. "Costume fits well."

And Foxx may be a shoo-in for the part, since he is working with Spider-Man's studio, Columbia Pictures, on two other major films. Django Unchained is set to be released on Christmas Day and is slated for a major release with the studio next summer. White House Down, also starring Channing Tatum, is slated to be released June 28, 2013.

The actor has been busy with other films as well, including voicing a character in Welcome to the Jungle and a possible return as a voiceover actor for the sequel to Rio.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have both already signed on for the second Spider-Man film, and actress Shailene Woodley is also reportedly in talks to join. The Amazing Spider-Man was released July 3, 2012 and grossed over $750 million worldwide. The sequel already has a release date — it is set for May 2, 2014.

Leo DiCaprio is back on the market

The actor is single again, but we've heard this one before. He reportedly wasn't ready to settle down, and he was seen out on the town this week showing how single he is.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio is single again, after almost a year of dating his most recent girlfriend. The 37-year-old actor had been dating model Erin Heatherton since last December. When the couple first started dating in December 2011, they seemed to be moving in the right direction. A friend of DiCaprio's said he felt she might be "the one."

"A few months back, it seemed like he was really into Erin," the source told the New York Post. "She's smart, beautiful and, importantly, got on with his mom. They are still friends. The timing just wasn't right for them. They still care about each other and remain friends."

And it looks like DiCaprio was the one who ended the relationship, even though it was because Heatherton didn't like the direction the couple was moving.

"Erin wanted things to get more serious between them, but Leo is not ready to settle down," said the New York Post. "While it would seem amazing that he wouldn't want to settle down with one of the world's most beautiful women, Leo leads a charmed life."

But it doesn't seem like DiCaprio is too upset about the split. He was seen out in New York with friends and many, many girls this week.

"It is believed Leo was with his co-star Jonah Hill at the Four Seasons Hotel as Sandy hit earlier this week," said the New York Post. "And on Wednesday, he arrived — wearing the same mask — at yet another Halloween bash, with a gaggle of 15 girls."

Heatherton has reportedly been spending the week in a hotel, after having to evacuate her apartment because of Hurricane Sandy.

It's starting to seem like Leonardo DiCaprio may become the next George Clooney — the world's most eligible bachelor who is known for not settling down. But he has been staying busy. Django Unchained will be out on Christmas Day, and the Great Gatsby will be out May 10, 2013.

One of the things that I hear often as a therapist is the struggle many clients have dealing with abusive parents or siblings. There is almost always this sense of guilt when it comes to dealing with family members who are bullies. If we would not put up with it in our personal lives, then why do we put up with it in our families? This is a difficult question to answer for many who have had to deal with abuse dynamics for years. Here are some tips to start putting a stop to the abuse.

One of the things that I hear often as a therapist is the struggle many clients have dealing with abusive parents or siblings.

Dealing with abusive family dynamics

There is almost always this sense of guilt when it comes to dealing with family members who are bullies. If we would not put up with it in our personal lives, then why do we put up with it in our families? This is a difficult question to answer for many who have had to deal with abuse dynamics for years. Here are some tips to start putting a stop to the abuse.

Just because they are family doesn’t mean they can’t be wrong

Passive-aggressive behavior, manipulation, sexual abuse, verbal abuse and domestic violence have no place in a family. However, often in families where this type of behavior does exist, it is excused. This is not OK. When family members use these tactics on others it plays a big role in how you function outside of your family. Many clients I have worked with that have come from families like these talk about not being able to trust others or form healthy intimate relationships. When abuse has been a part of your family dynamic, you need to be aware of how it can affect all aspects of your life.

It’s OK to create space

One of the hardest things in dealing with an abusive family is creating space between you and family members. Often in families where there is abuse, there is also enmeshment, meaning it feels like you can’t take personal space. If you feel guilty for taking space, don’t! In order for you to heal and understand yourself better, it is very important to create healthy boundaries with family members who don’t feel that boundaries are necessary. You don’t have to answer your phone, email or text. Take space. How long should this space last? Only you can answer that question.

Should I confront the abuse?

Note: The most important thing you can do when you are dealing with a bully in your family is to reach out for help. Work with a mental health counselor, reach out to your friends, develop connections within your community. By creating healthy relationships, you will not feel so guilty about getting rid of the bad ones.

The answer is: It depends. Are your family members going through counseling? Are they willing to take responsibility for their actions and make amends to develop a healthy relationship? If the answer is no, sometimes it is better to not confront the abuse. This can be very hard to do; however, if someone is not willing to take responsibility for their actions, then they are not going to be able to hear you, either. If you feel you need to get these emotions out, try writing a letter that you never send. When you are ready, take that letter and rip it up or burn it if necessary. Often the physical act of writing and then letting it go creates a sense of peace.

Taylor Swift doesn't want space but does want babies

Taylor Swift's songs say a lot about her life and her relationships. But when it comes down to it, she says all she really wants is a great guy.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift's love life has been the topic of conversation lately, especially with the release of her new album — which is full of relationship tidbits. And the singer, who has said she only talks about her love life through song, actually sat down with Cosmopolitan magazine this month to talk about what she is looking for in a guy.

"I need that unexplainable spark... I just need to see someone and feel, "Oh, no, uh-oh,'" she told the magazine, via MTV. "It's only happened a few times in my life, but I feel like if I was gonna be with someone forever, it would be because I saw them and I thought, 'Oh, no.'"

Swift has been linked to at least five famous guys in the last few years, but she didn't mention which ones made her feel that spark. And while she is currently single after recently breaking up with boyfriend Conor Kennedy, the experiences have given her the perspective she needs to know when to give up.

"I've learned when to get out. I've never wasted too much time with the wrong person, and that's one thing I'm proud of," she said. "I can't deal with someone wanting to take a relationship backward or needing space or cheating on you. It's a conscious thing. It's a common-sense thing. I just don't ever want to end up in a relationship that isn't fair, ever again."

She also doesn't mention who she is talking about when using the words "cheating" and "again," but based on her songs, it isn't hard to guess. And whether or not those guesses are right, the words in her songs might make her fans think differently about her exes.

"I've had a lot of dark and twisty situations happen, enough to realize that when someone exhibits signs of evoking a dark and twisty relationship and dark and twisty feelings, it's not interesting to me," she said.

But for the singer, she is looking forward to the future while enjoying the present. She obviously loves what she does but knows life will change eventually.

"Being a mom full time, doing everything for my kids, having a bunch of them. One day, I'm sure," she told Cosmo. "But that's the only other thing that could be as thrilling for me as doing this."

Swift's album Red came out Oct. 22 and sold over 1.2 million copies its first week out.

Alanis Morissette: Society needs to examine femininity

The singer was thrust into the music scene in 1995 but quickly became an ambassador for women. She takes that job seriously.

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette's album Jagged Little Pill came out in 1995, into a world of grunge rock and male-fronted music. She quickly became a symbol for women at the time, and she feels the world has lost a lot since then. She wrote a commentary for the Daily Beast, talking about her experiences with feminism and society.

"In 1995, I was thrust into the role of reluctant, flag-waving feminist and emotionally focused artist/advocate," she said. "Overnight, I was being asked to lunch by feminists the world over, and yet I was not in any way objective about my place or contribution to this latest rising of the divine feminine in our culture."

Morissette had hope in the 1990s that things would change. But she also mentioned she was in no position to be the voice of a generation, because of her young age at the time and inexperience with such a large task. But she did feel the world of art at the time was moving in the same direction she was.

"The 1990s offered a glimmer of hope, as the feminine side was beginning to be explored — with less apology — in music, film and comedy ," she said.

She said that feminists and all women learned a lot in that decade, and the fight they were fighting, while not over, has changed. Morisette's commentary is in line with the advocacy role she was given, though, and she obviously continues to feel that responsibility.

"Slowly, it became clear that we have not been fighting each other in a 'gender war' — as it became so popularly known — nor that the 'war' was personal in any way. What we really had been fighting was the idea that feminine and masculine are inextricably linked and dependent upon each other."

The singer seems to have finally become the feminist she felt she needed to be in 1995. At the end of the lengthy opinion she wrote on the Daily Beast website, she said that she feels men and women both have a responsibility to keep femininity at the level it is currently at.

"It is a brave act indeed for both men and women to embrace rather than shame or attempt to eradicate the feminine," she said.

David Hasselhoff names his favorite Baywatch babe

The Hoff worked with some of the hottest women in the world back in his Baywatch days, but who was his favorite? He made his decision based on more than just looks.

David Hasselhoff

David Hasselhoff may have been the envy of every guy on Earth in the 1990s during his time on Baywatch, because of the numbers of hot women he got to work with. Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Traci Bingham and Donna D'Errico were among the rotating cast of lifeguards who appeared over the years of the show's run.

The Hoff sat down with Access Hollywood and was asked who was his favorite of all of them. Though that's not an easy task for anyone, his answer was slightly surprising. He told the hosts that his favorite Baywatch girl was actually Carmen Electra.

"She's my favorite," he said. "She's got the most beautiful eyes. She's like one of the guys, she hangs out, she doesn't look like one of the guys, but she's cool... she just goes with the flow."

He said besides just her personality and looks, she was one of the most professional actresses he had the chance to work with and might be one of the only ones who would actually make it as a lifeguard.

"She always knew her lines," he said, via Yahoo! "[And was] ready to go jump in the water. There are so many girls on Baywatch that couldn't swim."

While Electra isn't up to much these days, Hasselhoff has been staying busy. He is starring in an upcoming holiday movie, The Christmas Consultant, alongside Caroline Rhea. Rhea may be best known as one of the aunts on the TV show Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and she also lends her voice to multiple characters on the Disney cartoon Phineas and Ferb. Hasselhoff has a few other small films in the works as well, but his only recent notable part was in 2011 on Sons of Anarchy.

Hasselhoff also spoke to Access Hollywood about proposing to his fiancee "multiple times" before she finally said yes.

The Christmas Consultant will premiere on Lifetime on Nov. 10.

John Cusack developing Rush Limbaugh biopic

The actor is developing a movie to detail the life Rush Limbaugh. But the actor chosen to play the conservative talk show host may be the biggest surprise.

John Cusack

An unlikely celebrity has announced that he will be creating a biopic about conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. According to Lynn Elber with the Associated Press, actor John Cusack's production company announced the project Friday.

"The working title is Rush, Cusack's New Crime Productions confirmed, offering no other details," said Elber. "Hollywood director Betty Thomas, who's set to work on the film, said the production company is putting finishing touches on a script."

The most interesting part of the story may be that Cusack is planning on playing Limbaugh in the film. Even as a member of the media, Limbaugh is a news maker himself and likely will make scriptwriting easy.

"Limbaugh is in the front ranks of colorful and provocative media figures," said Elber. "Earlier this year, Limbaugh called a Georgetown law student a 'slut' and a 'prostitute' on air for arguing to Democrats in Congress that health plans should pay for contraception."

And just this week, Limbaugh called a relationship between President Obama and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie a "bromance." The two had been working together to help with the disaster areas caused by Hurricane Sandy.

"The subject matter for John Cusack's Rush Limbaugh movie could be endless," said Inquisitr.com. "In the last few years alone, Limbaugh has become a media hotpoint as he led the conservative backlash against President Barack Obama."

As for Cusack's politics, they seem to be up in the air at this point. According to Elber, he did attend President Obama's 2008 inauguration but has since criticized some of his policies. Limbaugh's rep did not have a comment, but it sounded like this may be the first Limbaugh's camp had heard of the film.

"Cusack as Limbaugh isn't typecasting, politics aside," said Elber. "Cusack is a slender, dark-haired 46-year-old, while Limbaugh is 61, balding and portly. But Hollywood's makeup experts have probably had greater challenges."

There is no word yet on a possible release date for Rush.

DWTS All-Stars' Kirstie Alley talks John Travolta in her new 20/20 interview with Barbara Walters. Alley says Travolta is "the greatest love of her life."

Kirstie confesses John Travolta is the

Kirstie Alley, John Travolta and Kelly Preston — all three are close friends and followers of Scientology. Leave it to Alley to publicly shake things up — she recently revealed John Travolta is her soulmate. Awkward.

The 61-year-old Alley currently competes on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars. She sat down to talk to Barbara Walters for an upcoming 20/20 interview, airing Friday, Nov. 9, 2012.

Dancing With the Stars: Who should win?>>

Alley admitted to Walters that her love for Travolta almost destroyed her then-marriage to actor Parker Stevenson, back when Look Who's Talking filmed in the late 1980s.

"Believe me, it took everything that I had — inside, outside, whatever — to not run off and marry John and be with John for the rest of my life," said Alley to Walters.

When asked to explain why she didn't divorce Stevenson, she continued, "Because I feel like when you marry someone, you're supposed to work hard at it, and you're supposed to make it work."

Kirstie Alley and Parker Stevenson were married from 1983 until 1997.

Kelly Preston: Kirstie Alley helped me drop the baby weight>>

Travolta went on to marry Kelly Preston in 1991. Preston was also an actress and model; notably, she lost out on the role of Emmeline in The Blue Lagoon to Brooke Shields. Kirstie Alley, John Travolta and Kelly Preston are all practitioners of Scientology, a controversial religion perhaps made famous by actor Tom Cruise. . Alley and Travolta remain close friends, and it's unclear what kind of strain Alley's admission of love for Travolta will cause between him and Preston because there's no word yet from Travolta regarding Alley's 20/20 interview.

Kirstie Alley is currently on ABC's Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars, which airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c.

Bacon and egg pizza

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 prepared pizza crust
  • 1/4 cup favorite pizza sauce
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, a bit more to taste
  • 2 ounces bacon, cooked, patted dry with a paper towel and crumbled
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven according to the pizza crust directions.
  2. When the oven is hot and ready, spread the pizza sauce on the crust, then sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese.
  3. Arrange the crumbled bacon all around the top of the cheese, just to the edges of the pizza.
  4. Cook until the pizza is almost finished, with about five or six minutes left.
  5. Remove the pizza from the oven. Gently make a slight indentation into the center of the pizza, moving the sauce, cheese and bacon out from the middle just a bit.
  6. Crack an egg into a cup, taking care not to crack the yolk, then carefully slide it from the cup to the center of the pizza.
  7. Place the pizza back in the oven so the egg can cook, for about five or six minutes, or until done.
  8. Remove from the oven and cool slightly. Season the egg with a bit of salt and pepper.
  9. Slice the pizza so each serving has some of the egg with it.

Flip your day and enjoy a breakfast-style pizza for dinner!

Wreck-It Ralph brings in almost $50 million over the weekend

The Disney cartoon broke a record at the box office, and many are pointing to Hurricane Sandy as a reason for the high theater attendance over the weekend.

Wreck It RalphWreck-It Ralph seemed like it might be just another Disney cartoon, but audiences have proven it's so much more than that. The movie, in which John C. Reilly voices the title character, opened on Friday and has since earned $49.1 million at the box office.

"The cartoon's debut not only topped the weekend chart but also smashed the opening-weekend record for a non-Pixar, in-house-made Disney cartoon," said Rolling Stone.

There could be multiple reasons for the high box office numbers, including the film's possibly widespread audience. Also, since the story is based on a video game from the 1990s, many Gen Xers may be fans, especially since many of them have kids of their own now.

Disney may have also benefited from Hurricane Sandy, since moviegoers both inside and outside the hurricane zone probably just wanted to escape the world for a few hours. But Wreck-It Ralph wasn't the only movie to benefit from Sandy.

The Denzel Washington film Flight came in second over the weekend, with $25 million. Without Wreck-It Ralph, that number very well could have put Flight in the number-one spot.

"That's very good for a movie that opened on fewer than 2,000 screens," said Rolling Stone. "Indeed, its hefty per-screen average of $13,275 was slightly higher than that of Wreck-It Ralph , which was playing in more than twice as many venues."

Last weekend's top film, Argo, held its own by staying in third place this week, with $10.2 million. The Ben Affleck film has been doing fairly well and has been keeping people coming to the theaters. It has now sold a total of $75.9 million in tickets. The Man with the Iron Fists brought in $8.2 million for a fourth-place finish, and Taken 2 brought in $6 million. That gives the latter movie a total of just over $125 million for the five weeks it's been out.

NBC's Hurricane Sandy telethon brings in $23 million

NBC held its telethon for hurricane relief on Friday night and brought in millions for victims of the storm.

Jon Bon Jovi

The telethon for victims of Hurricane Sandy brought in $23 million. The Red Cross and NBC announced that the money would benefit areas of New York, New Jersey and other East Coast communities.

Among the performers at the event were locals of the affected areas. Billy Joel is from Long Island, while Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi are both from New Jersey.

"Springsteen and the E Street Band closed out the show with the tune 'Land of Hope and Dreams,'" said AM New York.

Christina Aguilera started the telethon with her song "Beautiful," accompanied by footage of the storm's aftermath. Aguilera is also an East Coast native. She was followed by Jon Bon Jovi.

"One of New Jersey's most famous sons, Bon Jovi, was shown paying a visit to a flooded neighborhood in his home state, where he offered words of support and hugs to the residents," said MTV. "The footage provided an intro to his live performance, an acoustic mash-up of his hits 'Who Says You Can't Go Home' and 'Living on a Prayer.'"

Billy Joel was up next and sang his song "Miami 2017 ," said MTV.

The telethon was filmed at NBC studios in New York, and other NBC Universal employees, including Brian Williams and Jon Stewart, shared their experiences of growing up on the East Coast. Matt Lauer hosted.

Other artists who performed included Sting, Jimmy Fallon, Mary J. Blige and Aerosmith band members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.

ABC decided against hosting a telethon. Instead it will hold a "Day of Giving" on Monday, when the network will encouraging people to give all day rather than for one night.

"It starts on Good Morning America and goes right through to Nightline to raise money for Hurricane Sandy disaster relief," said Kyle Gamble with ABC affiliate WHTM. "Red Cross volunteers from our area and across the country are already in disaster areas giving food, water, blankets, and other necessities to those who need help."

Election 2012: A-list Latinos hope for an Obama victory

Are Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria's political endorsements a nod to changing demographics in the U.S.?

2012 Election: Latino celebrities for Obama

The 2012 presidential election comes to a climax this Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012. This election season has brought out a myriad of celebrity endorsements, with arguably the majority tilting toward current Democractic President Barack Obama rather than Republican nominee Mitt Romney. However, what is remarkable about the 2012 election is the increased influence of high-profile Latino endorsements. Fox News reports that the influence of these individuals is debatable, but many experts feel the change is a signal that young Latino voters will have a tremendous impact in the 2012 election and in elections to come.

A quick search of the celebrities who have endorsed President Barack Obama is a bit mind-boggling. The list includes hundreds of individuals, ranging from fashion designers to actors, who are involved in the President's re-election campaign and hope to bring another Obama victory come Nov. 6, 2012.

Eva Longoria at the DNC: "I don't need a tax break">>

The list below constitutes just a small fraction of the A-list Latino celebrities who have publicly endorsed President Barack Obama:

  • Eva Longoria
  • Jennifer Lopez
  • Antonia Banderas
  • Salma Hayek
  • Selena Gomez
  • America Ferrera
  • Adam Rodriguez

Eva Longoria spoke at the Democratic National Convention and is the national co-chair of President Obama's re-election campaign. Jennifer Lopez recently endorsed President Obama in a new ad.

"He knows what it is like for families who are struggling to make ends meet and make a better life for their kids," said Lopez. "Join me and become part of Latinos for Obama today. Estamos unidos. "

Eva Longoria goes on Fox & Friends for Obama>>

Of the 23.5 million Latinos who are eligible to vote, 12 million are anticipated to vote in the 2012 election. Elayne Rapping — a professor emerita of American Studies at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York — talked to Fox News about the importance to Latino voters of celebrity endorsements from the Latino community.

"As voters get younger, as older generations die, the importance of pop culture also grows since young people are avid consumers of all kinds of media in a way older folks are not," said Rapping to Fox News Latino.

Mitt Romney has some Latino supporters but struggles to attract the same attention as does Obama. So far, Romney has enlisted comedian Robert Rodriguez. The 2012 election may show a demographic gap between Romney and Obama in regards to Latino voters and Latino celebrities who endorse Obama. That may ultimately hurt Romney at the polls.

"When a celebrity endorses a person running for office, it is, in a sense, a form of branding... The brand name is the celeb's name attached to the ticket," says Lawrence Pitilli, a professor at St. John's University in New York City.

Should you buy life insurance on behalf of your kids?

$

Like many parents, you might be wondering if you should buy life insurance for your kids, or perhaps insurance that can help provide for your children's college education in the event you're no longer here. Some financial experts say yes and some say these policies are generally set up to cover the loss of income of adults. There are benefits and your decision may involve various considerations.

newborn baby boy

With whole life insurance for your kids, they won't be denied coverage in the future

If you buy a whole life insurance policy for your children now, they will be covered in the future as adults, regardless of their health, as long as premiums are paid. Just be sure that this is specifically stated in the policy — that your kid won't be denied in the future if they encounter health or medical issues.

If there is a family history of health issues that may make it more difficult for your children to purchase life insurance when they are in their prime income-earning adult years, it may make sense for you to get insurance for them now.

Life insurance can earn cash value

A whole life insurance policy can earn cash value — providing you and later your child money for college, a car or other purchases if needs arise. Before purchasing an insurance policy, be sure you understand about any penalties or fees for early withdrawal or for loans against the policy.

The rate can be locked in

By purchasing whole life insurance for your child now, you can lock in a low childhood rate for the life of the policy. Talk to the life insurance company about how your child can continue with the policy and even increase coverage when he or she becomes an adult.

We all plan on outliving our children. However, if something did happen to your child, a life insurance policy would cover funeral expenses — though peace of mind and funeral costs aren't the only benefits of life insurance for kids.

Choose the right policy

Many insurance companies don't offer high-quality life insurance that makes sense for both you and your children. Consider purchasing from a reputable company that has a proven track record with their children's policies. For example, Gerber Life Insurance Company offers different insurance options that may make sense for your family.

The Grow-Up Plan®

This policy provides up to $50,000 of whole life insurance now, and the coverage automatically doubles at no additional cost when when your child is age 18. At age 21, your child becomes the policy owner. The low childhood premium rate is guaranteed never to increase, and your child will have opportunities to increase coverage up to 10 times the original benefit amount as an adult. You can start with a $5,000, $10,000, $15,000, $25,000, $35,000 or $50,000 whole life policy, and you can apply for it when your children are between ages 14 days to 14 years old. The Grow-Up Plan® guarantees the pay out amount and builds cash value. After 25 years, the policy’s cash value can be at least equal to or greater than 100 percent of premiums paid.

The Gerber Life College Plan

If you are looking for a college plan as well as life insurance, you should definitely consider the Gerber Life College Plan. This college plan is also adult life insurance that benefits your child if something should happen to you. The payments are fixed, and at the end of the 10 to 20 year term it delivers a guaranteed payout of $10,000 to $150,000 for your child to use for college or anything else.

You can find out about both of these plans at gerberlife.com.

In most states, contributions to a 529 plan can be deducted from your adjusted gross income, providing a tax savings. Additionally, the earnings are exempt from federal taxes as long as the funds are used on eligible education expenses. With a 529 plan, your child can go to college in any state, so these plans provide geographical flexibility.

Open a prepaid tuition plan

We all know how fast tuition costs are rising. With a prepaid tuition plan, you don't have to worry about that. Basically, you make fixed payments for a specific period of time and the state guarantees the cost of tuition so you can forget about tomorrow's prices by locking in today's rates. The rate guarantee applies only to in-state schools. You select a plan that covers from one semester to four years. Like the 529 plan, the prepaid tuition plans are tax-deductible for your state taxes. Plus, the earnings are free from both state and federal tax.

Start an Education Savings Account

A Coverdell education savings account  allows you to contribute up to $2,000 per year, per child, to as many accounts as you establish . Contributions to an ESA are not tax deductible, but amounts deposited in the account grow tax free until distributed. Distributions are then tax-free as long as they are used for qualified education expenses by the time the beneficiary is 30 years old.

Teen girls drinking

We’ve all had the discussions with our teens about underage drinking, yet alcohol is readily available to them. For many teen girls, it has become the most important component of their social life. When alcohol becomes her BFF, the problems become serious.

Party girls harm more than their reputation

Underage drinking continues to pose a huge threat to the health and well-being of our teens — and girls may be at a greater risk than boys. What starts as something fun and daring may quickly turn into a crutch she can’t manage social situations without.

Binge drinking is a big problem

Teens may only consume alcohol at parties rather than drinking on a daily basis, then think they have their drinking under control. Binge drinking generally considered four or more drinks at one sitting for women has become common among younger people. “Binge drinking used to be mainly a problem found on college campuses and in fraternities or sororities, but it's on the rise among young adolescent girls and places them at greater risk of physical and emotional problems," says Scott Bienenfeld, M.D., medical director of the New York Center for Living.

According to National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism statistics, even though young people drink less often than adults, they make up for it in volume. The effect of multiple drinks in a short period of time is amplified in girls. “Girls have less of the enzyme required to break down alcohol than boys do,” adds Bienenfeld, “so they become intoxicated more quickly with less alcohol and remain intoxicated longer.“ Impaired judgment makes girls more likely to engage in risky behaviors, and puts them at increased risk of physical or sexual assault.

Saving calories for booze

What could make the issue of binge drinking even worse? Combining disordered eating habits — such as purging and calorie restriction — with heavy consumption of alcohol has become popular among many young girls. Researchers at the University of Missouri led by Victoria Osborne, assistant professor of social work and public health, found that 16 percent of those surveyed reported restricting calories to ”save them” for drinking. Women were three times more likely to engage in this behavior — dubbed drunkorexia — than men. Their reasons included getting intoxicated more quickly, preventing weight gain and saving money for alcohol that would normally be spent on food.

Drunkorexia not only puts people at risk for serious addiction issues, but also poses dangerous cognitive, behavioral and physical consequences. ”Apart from each other, depriving the brain of adequate nutrition and consuming large amounts of alcohol can be dangerous,” warns Osborne. “Together, they can cause short- and long-term cognitive problems including difficulty concentrating, studying and making decisions.”

Social crutch

When girls begin to rely on alcohol to help them navigate social situations, it becomes a hard habit to break. The false sense of confidence that alcohol provides makes her feel popular, and can quickly become a must-have for any social outing. Bienenfeld shares a few questions young girls can ask themselves if they feel they may have a problem.

  • Have your friends expressed concern about your drinking?
  • When you go to a party, do you obsessively worry that there won't be any alcohol there?
  • Do you find it hard to stop drinking once you start?

”If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you should really think about getting help,” he says.

If your daughter approaches you about her own binge drinking or concern about a friend, take it seriously. With the help of an addiction specialist, things can turn around for your teen.

Last Vegas begins production in Las Vegas

For the first time ever, all four megastars join forces on none other than the Vegas backdrop.

What do you get when you mix six Oscar wins, 14 nominations and an accumulated compilation of over $16.6 billion in lifetime box office earnings?

The answer lies in four parts — or rather, four very recognizable names.

Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline are joining forces for the first time ever for an epic tour of Sin City.

Last Vegas is currently in production, set for a timely holiday season release in December 2013.

According to its announcement, "The ensemble comedy follows four old friends who decide to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single."

Dare we say this sounds a bit reminiscent of The Hangover with an amped-up cast?

It's still a long way out, but this is definitely something to look forward to!

Cast of Jersey Shore featured in Restore the Shore fundraiser

MTV is set to air a fundraiser to raise money for victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. Helping out with the event: None other than the cast of Jersey Shore, of course.

Cast of Jersey ShoreLetterman and Fallon may have taped shows in front of an empty house, but no other television show has felt the effect of Hurricane Sandy quite as badly as Jersey Shore. After all, the town where the cast spends their summers filming has been all but demolished.

To help Seaside Heights recover from Hurricane Sandy's destructive trek through town, MTV will air a special one-hour fundraiser on Thursday night at 11/10c. MTV is sure to open their studio doors to all the MTV reality celebs, but the only names they're naming so far are those from the cast of their hit show Jersey Shore.

Snooki on the Jersey beach

The cast of Jersey Shore will take a break from GTL-ing on Thursday night to be featured on Restore the Shore. The fundraiser will donate all proceeds to Architecture for Humanity. Architecture for Humanity uses the money it receives to help those in need with construction and design costs. While the Seaside Heights boardwalk may not be first on the list of places that need to be rebuilt, it was nonetheless an important part of the community. The boardwalk not only helped bring in tourists, but also played a key role in MTV's Jersey Shore.

Whether Snooki, The Situation and the rest of the Jersey gang will be in-studio or on the scene is still up in the air. One way or another, expect to see them in all their bronzed glory.
