Naming your baby after Mom

Naming a baby after a father is a pretty common practice. Naming a child after a mother is more unique, but you can really honor a mom by using her name, in some form, for a son as well as a daughter.

If you name a baby boy after his father, you typically use the same name and add a suffix, such as Jr. after the first name. To name a boy after his mother, you'll have to be a little creative. For starters, many female names have male versions, or at least they look similar enough that you can see where the name came from. If your name is Danielle, Daniel would be an obvious choice. If you don't want to be that exact, you can use similar elements from Mom's name, such as using the same initial or ending syllable, like Will and Jada Pinkett Smith when they named their son Jaden, after Mom.

To name a girl after her mother, you can use a similar approach. Take elements from her name and fashion a new moniker for your little girl, or research the meaning of Mom's name and see if there is another name that has a similar meaning. If Mom's name is Lily, maybe you could choose another floral name for your little girl.

Mother's Day is a wonderful time to tell your own mother that you love and appreciate her, but who knew that it could also be an excellent inspiration for baby names?

When Charlize Theron steps onto a red carpet, she typically turns heads, and last night's Met Gala was no different. The actress and Dior spokesperson arrived to fashion's big night with beau Sean Penn on her arm wearing a strapless black and white Dior (of course) gown.

Charlize has been a member of the "short hair, don't care" club for some time now, and last night she opted to wear her grown-out pixie sleek and shiny. Inspired by Charles James, celebrity hairstylist Enzo Angileri styled Charlize, transforming her into a glam version of a Charles James model: "He was at the peak in the '40s so I looked at his work and tried to modernize it in a way that screamed 'Charlize Theron.' She is her own woman — so beautiful and romantic, with a bit of an edge," Angileri says. "The hair had the height of a '40s style, but the methodical 'messiness' of the curls was 100 percent Charlize. I didn't over style her — instead, I created a balance between hair and makeup."

Jessica Alba: "I don't do nudity. I just don't"

Some stars in Hollywood still like to hang on to their integrity and refuse to cave in to the film industry's demands, like nudity on film. Such a celebrity is Jessica Alba, who says she won't ever get naked for film and just won't do nudity. Period.

In an interview with Glamour magazine, Alba discusses being in business, what it's like being an actress and why she will never take all her clothes off for a movie role.

Jessica Alba gets all catty with Gwyneth Paltrow >>

"I don't want my grandparents to see my boobs. That's it. It would be weird at Christmas," Alba said. "And, I mean, really, if you look at the movies I have done, getting naked would never 'elevate' the picture."

The 33-year-old mother of two actually incorporates a nudity clause into all her movie contracts, making sure producers know where she stands on the nude issue. In fact, she did so with her 2005 movie Sin City and spoke out on the matter at that time as well when interviewed by Elle magazine.

"I don't do nudity. I just don't. Maybe that makes me a bad actress. Maybe I won't get hired in some things," she told the magazine. "But I have too much anxiety."

Jessica Alba's health problems from household products >>

Her firm no-nudity stand may not be very problematic with Hollywood producers after all, however. Alba has already been signed on to star in the sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, where she will reprise her role as stripper Nancy Callahan. Of course, her nudity clause has been included in her contract, and Alba will not show any more skin than you'd see from her at the beach in a bikini.

We say, good for her.

If you have ever dined at Cracker Barrel, then you have most likely devoured a bowl of its hash brown casserole. This potato-based dish is very easy to make right at home with a few simple ingredients. Not only is it simple, but it's a great breakfast dish everyone will love.

Copycat Cracker Barrel hash brown casserole recipe

Serves 10

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds frozen hash browns, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil
  • 1 small sweet onion, diced
  • 1 (10-1/4 ounce) can cream of chicken soup (or substitute with cream of mushroom soup)
  • 1 (16 ounce) container low-fat sour cream
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, and lightly spray a medium-size baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large pan over medium heat, add the oil, onions and hash browns. Cook the hash browns and onions for 10 to 15 minutes or until the hash browns are a nice golden brown. Once cooked, add to a large mixing bowl.
  3. To the bowl, add the remaining ingredients and 1 cup of the cheese. Mix very well, and then pour the mixture into the baking dish.
  4. Top with the remaining cheese, and bake uncovered for 25 minutes or until the potatoes are bubbling and the cheese has melted.
  5. Remove from the oven, and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish with extra sour cream if desired, and serve immediately.

VIDEO: American Idol's Caleb Johnson calls fans retards

If you have any song suggestions for American Idol hopeful Caleb Johnson, keep them to yourself unless you want to be labeled a "retard."

The singer told Afterbuzz TV that his Twitter fans need to pipe down with their opinions on his song choices, then made a major faux pas when he casually dropped the R-word.

"It gives access to a bunch of retards to talk to me, and I don't really enjoy having to see somebody telling me what song I need to sing," Johnson said. "I think at this point in the competition I can pick and choose my own songs and represent me. I don't need 10,000 people telling me, 'You should sing this, you should sing that, listen to me.' Fortunately, guys, I'm going to listen to myself, whether you like it or not."

Johnson later apologized on Facebook, but only for offending his fans — not for using the term "retard" as a slur. It appears he still doesn't get it.

"For the record that juvenile comment I made in the interview was not directed towards my fans but to the wackos that send hundreds of hate messages a day to me!" he wrote. "You guys are amazing and I cannot thank you enough for your support. Sorry if it offended anybody it was the wrong choice of words. Also I greatly appreciate it when you guys give me song suggestions but it gets really overwhelming at the volume it comes in so please understand! Rock on !:)"

Johnson is currently in the final four.

Monica Lewinsky reveals suicidal thoughts over Clinton affair

It's been years since Monica Lewinsky's scandalous affair with former President Bill Clinton, but both Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé have cited the scandal in their works in recent months, so it's safe to say that she'll forever hold her infamous reputation. However, Lewinsky has now come forward to talk about that chapter in her life and how the boom of the internet brought her "global humiliation."

In an essay written for Vanity Fair, which will be available digitally on May 8 and hitting newsstands on May 13, Lewinsky talks about the shame, regret and humiliation she endured due to the very public scandal.

After a decade of silence, Lewinsky confesses that she decided to step forward because of Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers University freshman student who committed suicide in September of 2010 after he was secretly web-streamed kissing another man. While she was brought to tears when reading the story, she says it was her mother who became distraught by the headline.

"She was reliving 1998, when she wouldn't let me out of her sight. She was replaying those weeks when she stayed by my bed, night after night, because I, too, was suicidal," Lewinsky writes in the article. "The shame, the scorn, and the fear that had been thrown at her daughter left her afraid that I would take my own life — a fear that I would be literally humiliated to death."

Teaching your children about cyberbullying >>

Despite having suicidal thoughts, Lewinsky claims that she never attempted to take her own life, even though the idea crossed her mind during the investigation.

And as the self-proclaimed "first person whose global humiliation was driven by the internet," Lewinsky tells the magazine that she would like to get involved and start speaking on behalf of victims of "online humiliation and harassment" in public forums to create further awareness of the issue.

As for her overall sentiments on the scandal, it's clear that Lewinsky is ready to move forward with her life as she notes, "It's time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress… I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened."

Why are so many U.S. women dying in childbirth?

In sharp contrast to the shiny images displayed on magazine covers and on books across the nation of glowing, happily expectant mothers-to-be, there is a darker truth about pregnancy and childbirth in the U.S. these days.

The skyrocketing rate of maternal death for women from childbirth-related causes.

The statistics

The newest statistics on maternal morbidity in the U.S. were released last week and paint a troubling picture for a nation that is working hard to improve its image of health and well-being. The U.S. is actually one of only eight countries worldwide who have seen a dramatic increase in their death rates due to pregnancy-related causes. In fact, in only 10 years, the rate has risen by almost 3 percent, placing the U.S. alongside of countries like El Salvador and Afghanistan.

What's going on?

As a former labor and delivery nurse, I honestly have a very hard time picturing that U.S. childbirth practices are at the same level of those in Afghanistan, a nation where women literally give birth on piles of dung. Personally, I have never witnessed a tragic outcome of a woman dying from childbirth or pregnancy-related complications. Of course, the horror stories exist on every floor, the ones that get whispered about and passed on to nurses who will never forget.

Pregnancy care seems so regulated, so well managed, that even the emergencies appear commonplace — running to get medication to save a hemorrhaging mother or prepping her for surgery to stop her bleeding was a common occurrence.

So while doctors and researchers aren't exactly clear on the reasons why the rate has risen so much in the last decade, there are some theories. "The increase in the maternal mortality rate in the U.S. is very concerning," comments Dr. Lisa Hollier, an OB-GYN at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women and chair of the Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Task Force. "Today’s mothers are older on average and are more likely to have a variety of chronic medical conditions that increase the chance of severe complications during and shortly after pregnancy."

What we can do

As Dr. Hollier pointed out, one of the theories about the increased mortality rate is simply because today, the average U.S. woman gives birth later or uses invasive treatments to get pregnant, which may mean a whole host of increased complications for both her and her baby. This leads to more intensive, aggressive care, which often leads to a C-section, and so on and so forth.

Taking a closer look at the statistics of what exactly women are dying from provides us with our first clues to how we can improve outcomes for childbearing women. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) tracks these statistics through its Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System and notes the following most common causes of maternal morbidity before, during or following a year after pregnancy.

  • Cardiovascular diseases, 14.6 percent
  • Infection/sepsis, 14 percent
  • Non-cardiovascular diseases, (e.g. infectious, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, hematologic), 11.9 percent
  • Cardiomyopathy, 11.8 percent
  • Hemorrhage, 11 percent
  • Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, 9.9 percent
  • Thrombotic pulmonary embolism, 9.4 percent
  • Cerebrovascular accidents, 6.1 percent
  • Amniotic fluid embolism, 5.4 percent
  • Anesthesia complications, 0.6 percent

From these numbers, we can see that many of the deaths are actually related to underlying disorders, such as heart problems or other diseases, which may or may not be caused by the pregnancy, along with other definitive pregnancy-based disorders, such as preeclampsia (one of the hypertensive disorders) and hemorrhage.

"Persistently high rates of death from causes such as high blood pressure and bleeding suggest that there may be missed opportunities to improve outcomes," notes Dr. Hollier. "Potential solutions to reduce maternal deaths (and severe complications) include high-quality reviews of individual maternal deaths provided by maternal mortality review boards, and the implementation of evidence-based practices such as those produced collaboratively by National Partnership for Maternal Safety. These practices are geared to reduced complications and death from hemorrhage, blood clots and high blood pressure."

Be not afraid

And although this information isn't exactly cheery, I still want to point out that the statistics don't mean we need to live in a culture of fear about childbirth. I do believe in the power of women's bodies and in the beauty of birth, but I also believe in being smart and proactive about our health. If you're planning to get pregnant, see your doctor or health care provider to discuss if you have any risk factors and to "bulk up" your health before you conceive, if possible. If you're already pregnant, focus on doing the same things you would outside of pregnancy — eat right, exercise, and get enough sleep and water. The very things we need to have the best outcomes during our pregnancies are sometimes the most simple.

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift make up

After having had an alleged tiff with longtime pal Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez made up with her friend after she posted a cute video of the duo prancing around in a happy dance.

Selena Gomez: No issue with Kylie and Kendall Jenner >>

Gomez and Swift looked like two friends with no worries in the adorable Instagram video that the "Come and Get It" singer posted on her account. In the clip, the two are skipping around in beautiful dress gowns at the Met Gala, laughing and goofing off to the sounds of Dean Martin's "Volare."

"Sometimes you wanna just be you with someone who knows all your secrets," Gomez captioned the photo.

Taylor Swift makes hilarious spoof video mocking her love life >>

After Gomez un-followed a slew of friends, including Swift, on Instagram recently, rumors swirled that the once good pals had had a falling out and were no longer friends. The reason for the fight was mostly believed to be due to Gomez's reuniting with Justin Bieber after the ill-fated pair was supposed to be broken up permanently.

Swift had previously voiced her concerns for her friend's relationship with the troubled Canadian singer and wanted her to stay away from Bieber. When Gomez reportedly took the "Boyfriend" singer back, Swift distanced herself from the 21-year-old singer because she was "disgusted" with her, Us Weekly claimed in March.

Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran to appear in MTV documentary >>

Plus, Swift was said to think Gomez used her pal Ed Sheeran to make Bieber jealous by briefly going out with him last June. "After Selena pulled that move Taylor started distancing herself," an Us source said.

But, the two famous singers are apparently still very good friends as Gomez is "the closest thing" to a sister" Swift has ever had according to a message she tweeted last year. The pretty friends definitely look very tight in this latest video, and leave no doubt that there is no trouble at all between the two.

Skipping rocks

Take a few rocks to a local lake or beach and skip away. Small Anchors blogger Aimee states this is one of her son's favorite pastimes. Free and fun for the both of you, bring along a snack or a picnic lunch to make the date extra special.

A bike ride

For this date, all you need is a bike and a particular place to go. Cheryl at Moms and Munchkins believes these kinds of dates are important to have when there is no particular "to-do" list — just you, the child and the open road.

Book time

An excellent idea for a child of any age, the library or local book store is an awesome place to catch some quality one-on-one time. Peruse through picture books and read to younger children, listen to your school-aged children read to you or allow your older child/teen to show you some of their favorite reads, while you show them some of your favorite classics. If you are not a huge reader, magazines are always a great source for conversation starters.

Craft hour

So your significant other didn't do their parent duties and help create a Mother's Day gift for you with your child? No need to worry, help them create it yourself. Show them what you were really hoping to get, or assist them in creating one of their very own ideas made just for you.

Sampling sesh

Have a little foodie in your house? Have a fun, free time by visiting stores that offer free samples and snacking your date away. Places like Costco, Baskin Robbins and local bakeries offer samples to visiting customers. Splurge on your favorites.

The Simply Me Blog creator, Savannah, and her son have nearly memorized the Wreck it Ralph script and use the quotes as a fun game with each other. Recreate your favorite movie together, or play it on mute to see how much you can quote it and adlib the rest for instant laughs.

Star gazing

There's no better place to go for mommy and me memories than your own backyard. Sleep under the stars or simply tell scary stories as you roast marshmallows and sip hot cocoa in the grass. If in a warmer climate, drink some cold chocolate milk and snack on popcorn.

Model behavior

Take your mini fashionista to the mall with your iPhone and snap away while they show off some of their favorite and most absurd fashion choices. Let them try on whatever their heart desires, or have your child choose a few outfits for you and model for each other. Snap a few Instagram poses to use as embarrassing collateral in future years.

Breakfast in bed

Usually breakfast in bed is made just for mom on Mother's Day, but this year, invite the kiddos in for a major snuggle fest. Krissy at B. Inspired finds that the little moments like those early morning snuggles, boo-boo kissing and bedtime stories are what really matter to our kids in the long run and can make for an excellent "date" time as well

A day at the zoo or aquarium

Aimee from Small Anchors states that she gives her son the map and lets him lead the way. "He always has a list of animals and events that he wants to see." This allows your child to learn independence and decision-making while creating an awesome memory for the both of you.

Recreational class

Turn your child's favorite activity into a day of fun. Tina at Life Without Pink noticed that her son really enjoyed creating art and drawing. As a surprise, she is planning on signing the two of them up for an art class. Check your local municipalities website to find a class that may interest the two of you for some major mom and me bonding time.

Sports time

Another favorite of Life Without Pink blogger, Tina, is to go down to the tennis courts with her child and have a mean match against each other. She mentions that they both are far from being tennis pros "but it's such a fun day and we laugh a ton." Another sports date idea would include a day at the batting cages, golf range or basketball courts.

“So blissful in taking this time for creating all things blossoming new on the horizon... album, baby & beautiful music to come.”

Cavallari and her husband, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, are already parents to Camden and are expecting their second son within the next few weeks.

The Laguna Beach alum recently confessed that she had a major sugar craving with both pregnancies. "I had a really heavy sugar phase there for a few weeks, and literally my husband had to cut me off of sugar because I broke out the worst I've ever broke out my entire life, so I basically poisoned myself,” she revealed. “My body was in shock, but I had that with Camden as well.”

Cavallari told Fit Pregnancy that she and Cutler are looking forward to more children.

"We’ll probably try for another one in a couple years,” she said. “Jay would love to have one or two more."

JWoww and Snooki

Jersey Shore alums (and BFFs) JWoww and Snooki, who are both pregnant, posed together on the red carpet. Snooki is newly pregnant and isn't showing much yet, while JWoww is entering her third trimester.

“Just started my 7th month! And I must be in deep thought lmao cuz I look frozen haha,” JWoww captioned the photo.

Snooki aleady has a son named Lorenzo and is expecting her second child and this will be the first child for JWoww and her fiancé Roger Matthews.

JWoww is expecting a baby girl and recently told In Touch magazine that she is not enjoying being pregnant.

"Pregnancy sucks! I’m exhausted, my boobs are massive and I’ve never been this big. I mean, it’s a blessing, but it’s crazy,” she told the magazine.

She also revealed that she has a low-lying placenta and her doctors advised her to not have sex for a month — and she was perfectly OK with it.

"If you can keep the spark going, do it. But for me, it’s awkward,” she said. “My body’s going through so much that I’m just like, ‘Ick!’”

Actress Lake Bell showed off her baby bump in a red Tommy Hilfiger gown as she walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute Gala with her husband, tattoo artist Scott Campbell.

This is the first child for the actress, who said she is happy her baby news is finally out in the open.

"You can overthink it. I was just sick and tired of hiding it,” she told People. "You don’t have to pose for a photo and suck in. You can just relax and let it just accentuate your belly."

The 35-year-old actress and her husband married last June in New Orleans. Campbell has tattooed everyone from Justin Theroux to designer Marc Jacobs and Heath Ledger.

Rob Lowe was a big ol' crybaby when his son left the nest

Rob Lowe recently discovered one of the heartbreaks of parenting: letting your child spread his wings and fly the nest. But for the Parks and Recreation actor, the experience brought long-buried abandonment issues to the surface.

In an excerpt from his new memoir Love Life, Lowe explained how his oldest son Matthew's last night at home brought back memories of being separated from his own father as a young child after his parents' divorce.

Rob Lowe spills sex secrets in new book >>

"After my parents' divorce, when I was 4, I spent weekends with my dad, before we finally moved to California," Lowe explained. "By the time Sunday rolled around, I was incapable of enjoying the day's activities, of being in the moment, because I was already dreading the inevitable goodbye of Sunday evening. Trips to the mall, miniature golf, or movies had me in a foggy, lump-throated daze long before my dad would drop me home and drive away."

"Now, standing among the accumulation of the life of a little boy he no longer is, I look at my own young doppelgänger and realize: it's me who has become a boy again. All my heavy-chested sadness, loss and longing to hold on to things as they used to be are back, sweeping over me as they did when I was a child."

Rob Lowe: Beliebers don't care about Justin Bieber's music >>

Of course, Lowe sucked it up and hid his emotions from his son, who had worked hard to get into an unnamed-yet-Ivy-League-sounding East Coast school. Later, when they are in the dorms setting up the next four years of Matthew's life, dad gives sage advice when his son remarks that everyone looks so confident while he feels scared.

"Never compare your insides to someone else's outsides," Lowe responded.

Sage advice for us all.

Lowe's memoir Love Life is available in bookstores now.

My baby isn't the one who needs a vacation

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge left their 8-month-old baby in the care of his grandparents while they vacationed, and they were vilified. These moms share why vacation without the kids is okay and essential for their families.

Why leaving your kid at home is okay

Too often, moms are quick to judge other moms for the choices they make. You are not immune, however, even if you're the mother of the future king of England, as Kate Middleton found out after she and her husband, Prince William, went on a George-free vacation. Ironically, when they went on another trip and took their tot along, they got grief for that as well. Why do moms spend so much time dissing on what other families feel comfortable doing? And does vacationing without your children make you a bad parent?

Nurture your relationship

"Reading about people judging Kate for leaving her baby makes me rage."

Some moms look forward to vacationing with their offspring, and other moms prefer to vacation without — and still others do a little of both. However, moms who insist that vacationing with just their partners in tow is the cat's meow are not in the wrong, no matter what people think about Kate Middleton and her mothering skills. And many feel that, while easily forgotten, the relationship between partners needs attention.

"Something many people forget is that once your children are grown and you become an empty nester, who is left at your side?" asks Tiffany, mother of two. "Your spouse. One must nurture their relationship if they want it to last the test of time."

Ultimate "mom time"

Everyone has an idea of what they are personally comfortable with, and just because you wouldn't do something, doesn't mean that it's wrong if others do. And for some moms, the getaway is just what the doctor ordered. "I'm sorry, but reading about people judging Kate for leaving her baby makes me rage," shares Liz, mom of three. "Yes, I also left my baby with her grandparents when she was around the same age as George (for a short vacation), and while I did worry about her while we were away, it was probably the most refreshed I'd been since her birth. Moms who judge? Get over yourselves. Your life is not my life."

Cathy, expecting her third baby, totally agrees, although she raged a little less. "I am totally for vacationing without my kids," she says. "I absolutely adore my children and, of course, miss them terribly when I am away from them. With that being said, getting away for a few days sans kids helps you reconnect, gives you that alone time that you crave, and brings you back to each other. I think it's absolutely essential to find some kind of alone time with your spouse. Time away, period. Just find somewhere or someone you totally trust with your children, step away, and breathe for a few days. It does the soul wonders."

Make the best decisions for your family

Above all, it's important to do what you feel is best for your family. The moms we spoke with feel that if a child is well taken care of, then why would anyone make a big deal out of someone else taking a kid-free vacation? Lisa, mom of three, summed it up well: "I feel that celeb couples such as Will and Kate need it even more, because their life already pulled them apart even before kids. People just need to mind their own business. This doesn't make them any less of parents."

What's a recently-out-of-work chef to do? Buy a food truck, of course!

Writer/director Jon Favreau stars in this mouth-watering comedy about a prominent Los Angeles chef, Carl Casper, who quits his job after refusing to compromise his creative integrity when his cranky and controlling boss (played by Dustin Hoffman) demands he cook only from the restaurant's pre-approved menu.

New survey reveals women choose food over sex >>

Unemployed, Casper decides to return to his roots and relocates to Miami, where he invests in a beat-up-looking food truck. With the help of a friend (John Leguizamo), his ex-wife (Sofia Vegara) and his son, he's able to turn the truck into a first-rate restaurant on wheels, and reignites his passion for cooking and, perhaps more importantly, for life.

Not since Julie & Julia has a movie looked this appetizing. While the trailer is but a few minutes long, its sizzling close-ups already have us wishing Casper would park his food truck outside our office.

Adding to the film's familiar faces are Robert Downey, Jr., Oliver Platt, and Bobby Cannavale, with Scarlett Johansson playing Casper's love interest.

If you don't want to listen to your stomach rumbling over the credits, make sure you have dinner plans before you see this movie. We're betting more than a few audience members are going to be walking out of theaters with ravenous bellies.

Chef opens May 9 in New York and Los Angeles, and expands nationwide in the following weeks.

One skillet cilantro lime chicken

There is nothing I love more than a simple supper that is all one skillet and can be ready in under 30 minutes. I made this dish and was tempted to eat it all by myself, but I was nice and shared with my husband. This dish is full of brown rice, cilantro, lime and chicken. Total deliciousness.

One-skillet cilantro lime chicken recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cubed
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Zest of 1 lime
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1/3 cup diced cilantro
  • 1 (2 cup) bag 90-second brown rice

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet set over medium-high heat, add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add in the chicken, and season with salt and pepper.
  2. After about 10 minutes, the chicken should be fully cooked. At this point, add in the lime zest, lime juice, cilantro and bag of 90-second rice.
  3. Stir together until the flavors are combined and the rice is warmed through.

Note: You do not need to precook the rice because it is cooked in the bag and will warm through when you add it to the hot skillet.

Apollo Nida, the husband of RHOA star Phaedra Parks, faces some serious jail time after he pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and an identity scam totaling a whopping $2.3 million.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta husband admitted to a massive fraud scheme after he was accused of laundering $2.3 million during a four-year period and stealing the identities of over 50 people, E! News reported.

NeNe Leakes' wedding registry worth $40,000 >>

"This defendant participated in a sweeping fraud scheme that exploited many segments of the financial system," Sally Quillian, state attorney, said in a statement, adding that Nida's crimes included submitting fake claims to federal and state agencies, and ID theft using stolen checks.

"Nida and his conspirators were conniving and creative in their scheme to steal victims' identities and defraud them," U.S. Secret Service agent Reginald G. Moore said. "The United States Secret Service will continue to adapt its investigative methodologies to arrest criminals who use their technological savvy to violate unsuspecting victims such as those in this case."

The U.S. Attorney's office claims that federal agents were onto Nida last year when the reality star cashed a slew of stolen U.S. Treasury checks with his co-conspirators. The group also cashed checks from the Delta Airlines pension fund, laundering the money through the bank accounts of the people they stole the identities from.

In court on Tuesday, Nida pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail, wire and bank fraud, facing up to 30 years in jail. However, the admitted criminal was reported to be upbeat and positive upon leaving his court hearing.

"I feel good about the support I'm getting," Nida told The Daily Mail. "All the support's been needed. It's an uphill battle, but we're still staying positive."

Incidentally, Nida married Parks just six months after being released from prison for racketeering in 2009.

Angelina Jolie has said her daughter Vivienne was cast in her upcoming movie Maleficent because she was the only kid who wasn't terrified by the actress's horned costume — but the experience was so stressful she and Brad Pitt never want to do it again.

In an interview with Elle, Jolie explained how Vivienne got sucked into the role in the first place and why it left the parents of six wanting to keep their kids out of the business forever.

"My little Vivienne — we call her my shadow, because there's nothing I can do to shake her," Jolie told the mag. "I can be tired, I can be grumpy, I can be in a terrible mood, and she doesn't care. It's 'Mommy, Mommy,' and she'll cling to me. We knew that she would still do that thing, she'd still smile at me and insist that I pick her up. So we couldn't really cast anybody else. I asked Shiloh about being Aurora, and she laughed in my face. She said she'd be a horned creature."

By all accounts Vivienne's acting debut is stellar, but the experience for Jolie and Pitt? Not so much.

"Brad and I made the decision that we wouldn't keep them from sets and the fun of making movies, but we wouldn't [glorify it either] — we wouldn't make it a good thing or a bad thing," she explained. "But I would really prefer they do something else. After two days of it, Brad and I were so stressed we never wanted to do it again."

Jolie also revealed that she never thought she'd find the kind of love she shares with Pitt, and gushed about how lucky she is to have him.

"I never thought I'd have children, I never thought I'd be in love, I never thought I'd meet the right person," she said. "Having come from a broken home, you kind of accept that certain things feel like a fairy tale, and you just don't look for them."

"You get together, and you're two individuals, and you feel inspired by each other, you challenge each other, you complement each other, drive each other beautifully crazy. After all these years, we have history — and when you have history with somebody, you're friends in such a very real, deep way that there's such a comfort, and an ease, and a deep love that comes from having been through quite a lot together."

Michael Jordan: I was a racist teen

Michael Jordan has come a long way in his personal life. In a new book called Michael Jordan: The Life, the basketball icon makes one shocking confession about his view on race, admitting to author Ronald Lazenby that he considered himself a racist "against white people" during his upbringing in North Carolina.

In the book, which hit shelves on May 6, Jordan opens up about his adolescent years and the ridicule that he endured when he tried to fight against the Ku Klux Klan resistance during the 1960s and '70s. He says that the organization had a major hold in the Wilmington, North Carolina, district, particularly when providing bibles to churches and uniforms to local basketball teams to maintain their power.

Jordan even recalls one incident during his schooling in 1977 when he was suspended for throwing soda at a girl who attacked the future athlete with some racial slurs. "I was really rebelling," the dad of five says of the memory. "I considered myself a racist at the time. Basically, I was against all white people." In the end, the NBA champ credits his mother for ending his racial hatred by suggesting that it wouldn't help him grow personally or professionally.

One of the media's most recent headline-making stories regarding race came from Donald Sterling, the Los Angeles Clippers owner, who was banned by the NBA over a slew of racist comments. In a statement, Jordan said, "I look at this from two perspectives: as a current owner and a former player. As an owner, I'm obviously disgusted that a fellow team owner could hold such sickening and offensive views. As a former player, I'm completely outraged. There is no room in the NBA, or anywhere else, for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed."

Willow Smith may be growing up right in front of our computer screens just a tad too fast. On Tuesday, May 6, the famed daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith made headlines when she was snapped in bed with a shirtless Moises Arias, former star of Disney's Hannah Montana. The only problem is Arias is seven years older than the young teen.

In the black-and-white photo, which was posted on Arias' Tumblr and Instagram accounts before being deleted and reposted by fan accounts, Smith is seen lying down in a top and jeans in bed as a shirtless Arias sits up next to her. However, it does not appear that either is touching the other. While some perceived the shots as purely innocent, others have raised eyebrows simply due to their age difference. Arias recently left his teen years behind when he celebrated his 20th birthday in April.

Is Willow Smith's "Summer Fling" too grown-up? >>

Willow's friendship with Arias isn't too surprising, as they've been previously spotted out and about for some time now. Arias is also friends with Willow's older brother Jaden, Kendall Jenner and sister Kylie Kardashian. After a quick scroll through Arias' Tumblr page, it appears that the group had some fun when they visited Coachella last month in Indio, California.

Willow already opened up a bit about being lost in her personal and professional life, which was something that ultimately led to her dropping out of the remake of Annie. In an interview with E! News, the young star said, "I just wanted to chill, and be at home, and decompress, and just find out what I wanna do and where I stand on this planet, with the little tiny place we have."

What do you think about Willow and Moises' photo? Is this purely innocent or inappropriate? Sound off in the comments below.

We moms tend to freak out (just a tad) when we see our kids headed for a major mess. Calm down and get over it because these activities are tons of fun. Once you see what a blast they're having, you won't care about the mess — at least until it's time for cleanup.

Do you have an extra couple of cans of shaving cream on your hands? If not, run out to the store and buy a few cans of the cheap stuff because this super-fun and super-messy activity from The Little Legers can't be missed.

Play with your food

How much time do you spend telling your kids not to play with their food? Imagine how much they would freak out if you made food just for them to play with? That's exactly what the mama over atMy Little Bakers in Training did, and as you can tell, her kids had a blast.

Paint on the windows

Painting on paper is so yesterday. Instead, let them paint on the windows like the blogger over at Likely Classroom did. We know, it sounds like a horrifying mess, but she promises it cleans up with soap and water.

Play in the mud

Those rainy days are such a temptation for little ones. Just this once, say "yes" instead of "no." The blogger at Growing A Jeweled Rose took it a little further, building a mud wonderland in her backyard. Head over to her blog to see what we're talking about.

Build a volcano... in the bathtub

Growing a Jeweled Rose

We've all built those exploding volcanoes a time or two, so we know from experience they're a giant mess. The blogger at Growing A Jeweled Rose doesn't do anything halfway, though. She built a volcano, complete with painted scenery, in her bathtub. And then she let her daughter get in there, too. How fun is that? At least the cleanup for this one had to be a little easier, considering it was contained in the tub.

Play with shaving cream art

Shaving cream is good for a lot of messy projects, and Thrift Nifty Mommy used it for some arts and crafts. Looks like her daughter had a great time mixing up the shaving cream and paint, as well as transferring it over to a piece of paper.

Play with toys in Jell-O

The Craft Train

The mom over at The Craft Train really knows how to make a mess. She let her kids mix different colors of Jell-O, and then use the mess as a setting for their toy dinosaurs. As moms, we know it's probably a big, sticky mess, but it also looks like a really fun activity.

Paint with squirt bottles

Mess for less

Painting with kids is messy enough, but add in squirt bottles and bad aim, and you've got a recipe for disaster. It sure looks like the kids from Mess for Less are having a great time, though.

You don't always need a big setup for your kids to have fun and get dirty. The next time you're out on a rainy day and you see a big puddle, tell your kids to go for it. The blogger over at Fit Kids Clubhouse did, and it doesn't look like she regrets it.
