Easter egg placemat

Supplies

  • Green place mat
  • Two different shades of green felt
  • Assorted colors of felt
  • Scissors
  • Fabric glue
  • Fabric paint (optional)

Easter egg placemat: Supplies

Directions:

1

Easter egg placemat: Cut sheet of felt in half

Start by cutting a sheet of green felt in half, making two wide strips. Repeat with the second sheet of green felt. You’ll be using half a sheet of each shade per place mat.

2

Easter egg placemat: Use scissors to cut the felt into grass

Use scissors to cut the felt into grass. Cut a big, uneven zigzag through the middle of the felt. Feel free to be super uneven. You’ll be using both sides to create your grass for the place mat.

Use scissors to cut the felt into grass

Repeat with the second color of felt.

3

Easter egg placemat: Cut the grass strips into smaller pieces

Cut the grass strips into smaller pieces and decide on placement on the place mat.

Easter egg placemat: decide on placement on the placemat.

Remember the placement of your plate and water glass as you place the felt. You don’t want your water glass to get wobbly because of felt underneath it, and you don’t want all the fun to be covered up by the plate.

4

Easter egg placemat: Glue down the bottom and the sides

Once you have decided where the green felt will go, start gluing down the pieces. Glue down the bottom and the sides, but DO NOT glue down the blades of grass at the top. The goal is to create little pockets for the felt Easter eggs to hide in.

5

Easter egg placemat: cut your eggs

Once you’ve glued down the grass pieces, cut your eggs using the assorted colors of felt. The Easter eggs are just lopsided felt ovals. Once you cut one that you particularly like the shape of, use it as a template for the rest.

6

Easter egg placemat: you can paint eggs with fabric paint.

You can leave your eggs in solid colors, or you can paint them with fabric paint.

7

Easter egg placemat: Paint whatever designs you like

Paint whatever designs you like — spots, swirls, lines, zigzags, dots and/or any combination of these.

8

Easter egg placemat: hide your eggs.

Once the place mat and eggs have dried, you can hide your eggs.

Easter egg placemat: hide your eggs well.

You can hide them so they are peeking out, or you can hide them well so they are just barely peeking out.

Easter egg placemat: hide-and-seek while eating an Easter Egg Breakfast

You can hide the eggs over and over again, tucking them in the pockets created by the felt grass. If you like, you can hide other things in the felt pockets — like dollar bills or little notes. A fun hide-and-seek while eating an Easter-egg breakfast!

The orchid tree, a member of the Bauhinia genus, boasts bright pink flowers that look more like art than flora. Not related to the orchid flower, the orchid tree thrives in warm temperatures in full sun and can reach up to 25 feet in height in just a few years.

5

Empress tree

Do you want a tree that is the stuff of fairy tales? Plant an empress tree and you'll see magical pink blooms appear all over this warm-climate beauty, which can grow over 80 feet tall. As a bonus, the empress can survive both hot and cooler climates once its root system is established.

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries are sweeter than the real thing

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries are way more fun to eat

These chocolate-dipped "carrot" strawberries are a great conversation starter. Like all chocolate strawberries, they're rich and chocolaty with a juicy, tangy sweetness from the berry.

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries

But the flavor is such a surprise, because they look so much like little carrots. Even when you know you're eating a chocolate strawberry, you're always pleasantly startled by the first bite.

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries are way more fun to eat

To make these mini desserts, start by threading each strawberry onto a shish kebab skewer. This gives you something to hold onto without the risk of pulling off the leaves. Try to choose strawberries with a long, pointy shape and nice green tops.

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries are way more fun to eat

Melt some white chocolate, and stir in orange food coloring (or two parts yellow to one part red). I use Wilton Icing Color. Hold the leaves of the berry up around the stick so they're out of the way, and use a toothpick to paint the orange chocolate onto the top of the berry, around the base of the leaves. This will cover the part of the berry that might not get dipped.

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries are way more fun to eat

Now carefully grip the leaves around the stick as you dip the berry into the melted chocolate. Twirl it slowly as you pull it out.

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries are way more fun to eat

Place the berry onto parchment paper to let the chocolate set. Once all your berries have been dipped, pour the remaining chocolate into a disposable decorating bag. Use scissors to snip off the very tip of the bag, and pipe a triangular squiggle on each berry.

Keep the berries at room temperature, preferably in an airtight container, until you're ready to serve them. They're best eaten within 24 hours.

Chocolate "carrot" strawberries are way more fun to eat

Chocolate-covered "carrot" strawberries

Yields 12

Ingredients and supplies:

  • 12 strawberries
  • 8 ounces white baking chocolate
  • Orange icing color (or two parts yellow to one part red)
  • 12 shish kebab sticks
  • 1 toothpick
  • Candy decorating bag

Instructions:

  1. Stick each strawberry onto a shish kebab stick.
  2. Break up the white chocolate, and melt it in a microwave-safe bowl. A deep, narrow bowl works best for dipping. Heat it in 30-second increments, stirring between. Stir in enough icing color to get a nice bright orange.
  3. Hold the strawberry leaves out of the way, and use a toothpick to carefully paint orange chocolate at the top of the strawberry, around the base of the leaves.
  4. Now carefully grip the leaves and the skewer, and dip the berry into the chocolate, avoiding the leaves but covering the whole berry. Pull it out carefully, twirling slowly as you go.
  5. Place the strawberry on a sheet of parchment paper, and repeat with the remaining berries.
  6. Once all your berries are covered, pour the remaining chocolate into a decorating bag, and snip the very tip off. Draw a triangular squiggle on each berry.
  7. Store the chocolate "carrot" strawberries at room temperature, and eat them within 24 hours.

It is a time of change for Katy Perry. After her long-term relationship with John Mayer ended, the singer is trying all kinds of new things.

Why Katy Perry needs to stick to dating men her own age >>

Although colorful hair isn't exactly new for the singer — she has dyed her hair pink, purple, blue — a shade of green is something she has never tried before. In fact, her hair color is now what she categorizes as "slime green."

Perry posted a photo of her new look Monday, April 7, on Instagram, along with the caption, "SLIME GREEN FOR SPRING."

"Of course, being Katy, she is a lot more edgy and she's cooler and she likes to take a lot of risks. And I love that she's like, 'I'm feeling a little blue, let's go blue' — not in her energy, just in her hair color," Perry's hair colorist Rita Hazan told MTV News back in 2012. "She's kind of this candy-coated sort of person. It's nice to see her experiment with different things."

15 Hilarious things women think when they see celebrity bikini photos >>

Perry has had an interesting couple of months, and seems to be loving the single life. Despite rumors they had become engaged on Valentine's Day, the singer and John Mayer called it quits a few weeks later. She also became involved in a catfight with Miley Cyrus after Cyrus kissed her (with a little too much tongue) at one of her concerts.

Perry seems to be back to being her old bubbly self, and the new hair color is the first step to normalcy — the Katy Perry way.

Do you like Perry's new look, or do you think she should stick to a more natural color?

Is this breed right for you?

A friendly and playful breed, the active Toy Fox Terrier requires a lot of physical and mental stimulation. OK for apartment living, he'll need regular exercise and toys to play with. Doing well with a fenced-in yard of his own, he'll constantly be at the side of his owner. Trained easily and well, he can be taught to learn many new tricks. This dog does better with older children; he may lose patience with younger children who don't know how to handle him. Getting along with cats if raised with them, he's likely to chase smaller animals and vermin. Not a fan of cold weather, he'll need a sweater when venturing outdoors in cooler climates.

Breed characteristics

A dream day in the life of a Toy Fox Terrier

This happy dog is sure to wake up with a smile when he's snuggling next to his owner. Playfully following his human around during their morning routine, he's sure to be at your feet until you feed him his meal. Engaging in a bit of fetch with one of his many toys, he'll venture outdoors to explore the yard. After sniffing out any possible creatures, he'll head back indoors for more playtime. Guaranteed to show off a few tricks throughout the day, the Toy Fox Terrier will keep you safe and smiling until you two head back to bed.

Olympic gold medalist Ian Thorpe is suffering from a bad infection that could cost him his arm and his swimming career, reports claim.

The Australian athlete contracted a bad infection following shoulder surgery and is in danger of losing use of his arm permanently. As a result, Thorpe could also lose his ability to ever swim in competition again, The Guardian reported. According to Network Seven, Thorpe got the infection at a hospital near his home in Switzerland where he underwent his surgery and is now receiving intensive care at another hospital in Sydney, Australia.

From eye infections to concussions: Sick days at Sochi >>

However, Thorpe's manager, James Erskine, claims that the famed swimmer got the infection in Sydney and is not in intensive care, but rather receiving large doses of antibiotics at an Australian hospital. "It's serious, but it's not life-threatening," Erskine told the press, adding that contrary to what's being reported, Thorpe will not lose his arm.

Prior to his surgery to fix an ongoing shoulder injury, Thorpe was battling depression, his father revealed recently. The five-time gold medal winner was found wandering and disoriented near his parents' home earlier this year after he took a mix of antidepressants and pain medications for his shoulder.

Michael Phelps will answer to no one post-Olympics >>

Thorpe, who was nicknamed The Thorpedo for his incredible swimming speed, sought help and entered rehab shortly after being medically assessed at Bankstown hospital.

The Olympian announced his retirement from swimming in 2006, saying he lacked motivation to continue competing. He had won three gold medals at the 2000 Sydney games and two more in the 2002 games in Athens. Thorpe then returned to the sport in 2011, but failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.

While he called his unsuccessful comeback a "nightmare," Thorpe vowed to continue swimming despite his struggles with depression and drinking. The troubled swimming star detailed his ongoing issues in a 2012 autobiography titled This is Me, where he revealed his inner demons to the public.

Details on Season 18

Dancing With the Stars is back, and this season is planning to offer a whole new set of dancers and talent.

Hello, SheKnows. I'm Mark Ballas, pro dancer, singer and songwriter. You might know me from a little show called Dancing With The Stars. This is my 14th season on the show, and it's been a crazy ride. I love the show, and I'm really excited to be guest-blogging here each week. You can expect stories from rehearsals, show-day antics, challenges and my thoughts about everything from that week's show.

SheKnows welcomes guest blogger DWTS pro Mark Ballas >>

We just passed week 4, and up until this week my partner had been Candace Cameron Bure. The producers decided to try to switch things up a little this year... literally. They switched all of the pros and the stars just as we were all getting comfortable, which made for an interesting week for everyone. Candace and I were really getting into a groove with each other, so I was a little bummed when I heard that we weren't going to be dancing with each other that week. When I heard Amy was my partner, though, I was pretty excited. I knew it was going to be a challenge, but a fun one.

VIDEO: #TBT: Candace Cameron & Danica McKellar dance >>

If you don't know about Amy, you should. She's an incredible, inspirational woman. At 19, she contracted bacterial meningitis, and both of her legs had to be amputated below the knee. That didn't stop her one bit. Outside of dancing, she's a crazy-talented snowboarder (bronze medalist at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games) and the cofounder of Adaptive Action Sports. On the dance floor, she's dedicated and super-talented.

This week's dance was a challenge stylistically. I took on a more supportive stance than I usually do for Amy, but still wanted her to go her own way and show the judges that she can dance on her own. She took it, ran with it and killed it when it came time to perform.

Julianne Hough is back on Dancing With the Stars >>

Next week I'm back with Candace, and I'm ready to show the judges and the viewers what we've got up our sleeves. It's going to be a very fun show. Y'all can vote for Candace and me online all day today if you want to see us continue on. Voting is open till 5:00 p.m. PST.

Until next week,

He's one of fashion's hottest designers and he is also a married man. In a new interview with Vogue U.K., the 52-year-old fashion guru spilled the beans about his marriage.

Ford married his longtime boyfriend of 27 years, journalist Richard Buckley. The two are parents of a 1-year-old son, Alexander John Buckley Ford.

He told the magazine, "Richard, yes, 27 years, and we're now married, which is nice. I know that it was just made legal in the U.K., which is great. We were married in the States."

Ford did not make it clear as to when they tied the knot, but that was the first big public announcement about the couple's union. What is clear is how much their marriage means to him; the former Gucci designer is happy they found each other.

"I lost so many friends in college — I would say more than half of my closest friends," said Ford. "Richard had also gone through something also quite tough in his life."

The men met at a fashion show back in the '80s and it was love at first sight.

Ford reminisced to WWD, "I went to a fashion show and this silver-haired guy was staring at me with these piercing water-blue eyes. It scared me because I absolutely saw and knew my entire future."

The relationship hit warp speed almost from the start.

He continued, "We had three dates. We were living together four weeks later. He gave me the keys to his apartment, and we have lived together ever since."

It was meant to be. Congratulations, Tom and Richard!

It's a Full House reunion on The Neighbors

Fans can't get enough of the Full House crew these days. The stars from the popular '90s sitcom are everywhere lately. For viewers looking for a reunion between D.J. Tanner and her high school boyfriend, Steve Hale, there is one happening on Friday night on ABC.

This week's episode of The Neighbors will feature Candace Cameron Bure and Scott Weinger as two new visitors arriving in the alien-filled neighborhood. It will be the season finale of the sitcom, so perhaps the two fan favorites will return in Season 3 if the show is picked up.

SheKnows welcomes guest blogger DWTS pro Mark Ballas >>

This isn't the only Full House sighting in recent weeks, though. Bure, who's currently a contestant on Season 18 of Dancing With the Stars, has had quite a few cast members come to the competition show and offer up their support.

Both Weinger and Andrea Barber, who played D.J.'s best friend, Kimmy Gibbler, were seen on the March 31 episode. Lori Loughlin also watched the former child star do the quickstep across the ballroom floor this week.

If Aunt Becky can make it out to support D.J., why can't Uncle Jesse? John Stamos, Dave Coulier and Bob Saget haven't been spotted in the audience yet. With Bure currently sitting at the bottom of the scoreboard, they better hurry up before her sparkly sequins are voted off.

In the meantime, fans will have the opportunity to watch The Neighbors on Friday, April 11 on ABC for their Full House fix.

Kate Mulgrew explains how the sun revolves around the Earth

Kate Mulgrew spent years as Captain Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, so it seemed a little off when she appeared in a film stating that the Earth is the center of the universe.

How Simon Pegg went from Star Trek fanboy to star >>

"Everything we think we know about our universe is wrong..." Mulgrew said in the film, The Principle.

Mulgrew, who also stars in Orange Is the New Black, issued a statement on her Facebook page on Tuesday, April 8, explaining how she was misled to appear in the film.

"I understand there has been some controversy about my participation in a documentary called THE PRINCIPLE. Let me assure everyone that I completely agree with the eminent physicist Lawrence Krauss, who was himself misrepresented in the film, and who has written a succinct rebuttal in SLATE. I am not a geocentrist, nor am I in any way a proponent of geocentrism. More importantly, I do not subscribe to anything Robert Sungenis has written regarding science and history and, had I known of his involvement, would most certainly have avoided this documentary. I was a voice for hire, and a misinformed one, at that. I apologize for any confusion that my voice on this trailer may have caused."

In the film, the actress was joined by numerous physicists who offered explanations about the universe and why they believe the science supports that everything has to revolve around the Earth.

PHOTOS: Celebs get the Vulcan makeover >>

But one of those physicists has already said he didn't even have the chance to be misled — his voice ended up in the film without his knowledge. Lawrence Krauss was the physicist Mulgrew mentioned in her post.

Krauss wrote an article for Slate, called "I Have No Idea How I Ended Up In That Stupid Geocentrism Documentary," explaining that producers may have taken clips of his voice in the public domain and edited them into their film. He explained the point would be to "elevate the profile of something that shouldn't even rise to the level of popular discussion."

So breathe easy, Star Trek fans, all is still right with the universe, despite what some people think.

Are Taylor Swift's parents too controlling?

$
0

Is Taylor Swift surrounded by helicopter parents? A new report by Page Six says Scott and Andrea Swift are becoming "difficult and controlling stage parents" despite a separation.

Taylor Swift makes hilarious spoof video mocking her love life >>

According to the report, numerous people working for Swift have been leaving or have been edged out by the Swifts. That includes staffers at their company, 13 Management, as well as Swift's agents at CAA and WME. Her business managers quit last year, and her longtime publicist resigned last month. Page Six said all those people quit because Swift's parents are edging them out so they can have total control of her career.

"Taylor's parents are incredibly difficult to deal with," a source told the gossip column. "Their expectations are enormous, and they are very hard to please. They want to pay as little as possible and treat people like s***, because they think those people are lucky to have the chance to work with a superstar like Taylor."

Scott and Andrea Swift's separation has reportedly made things even more unpleasant for everyone involved.

"Taylor's parents think they can do things better, and what makes things complicated is that they no longer live together," another source explained. "Taylor is incredibly smart and professional, but at some point she's going to need her parents to stop, before it turns into a total Katherine Heigl 'momager' situation."

Taylor Swift's dating advice: "If it's a game, you need to win" >>

Although the Swifts are separated, sources say they have not divorced because "they don't want to damage Taylor's career."

But her fans aren't going anywhere anytime soon; as long as she keeps doing what she does best, she shouldn't have anything to worry about. Taylor Swift and her management haven't commented on the situation, and the singer is likely focusing on her time in the studio. She is currently busy recording her fifth album.

This weekend will mark Seth Rogen's return to Saturday Night Live when he hosts the show on Saturday, April 12, with musical guest Ed Sheeran.

Seth Rogen & James Franco Vogue spoof: "It had to be done" >>

Rogen isn't new to comedy, nor will this be his first time hosting SNL. But if the latest promos for the show are any indication, it's actually cast member Aidy Bryant who might just end up stealing the show. She certainly stole the promos.

In an extra-long video, the two run through various versions of announcing Rogen's hosting job. Below are just a few highlights from the video.

Poor guy — all Rogen wants to do is announce that he's hosting SNL this weekend but he can't get through the line without being told repeatedly by Bryant all the ways he's doing it wrong.

Anna Kendrick to make Saturday Night Live debut in April >>

Bryant turns into a gushing fangirl and asks if they can do some improv together. They decide to drop the cue cards and hilarity ensues, but not necessarily for the reason you might think.

After that, Bryant encourages Rogen to just be himself and relax while doing the promo, but it turns out she's the one that isn't all that experienced. Rogen gives her one piece of advice, but she immediately blows it.

Bryant then wants to find out more about Rogen's new movie with Zac Efron, or to be more precise, she really just wants Rogen to describe Efron's sexy body in detail. Who can blame her, right?

Bryant asks Rogen what he's been doing since the last time he hosted the show, but then starts giving him a hard time for bragging.

The two jump in the air and scream "SNL!" so that the image can be frozen in midair. The results are just as awesome as they hoped.

Seth Rogen pretty much hates Justin Bieber >>

Bryant starts out helping Rogen with his introduction, but quickly takes over and launches into her own song and dance.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Samantha Harris has opted to undergo a double mastectomy to treat the disease.

The procedures revealed what Harris feared; that her lump was cancerous. "It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest," the former model said. She went to see three different specialists to get opinions and to learn what her best options were.

Harris was given the choice to have either a double mastectomy or a less radical but more uncertain second lumpectomy with radiation. The 40-year-old mother of two decided to go with the big surgery.

"I was sick of feeling the way that I did in the days after the diagnosis," Harris told People magazine. "I knew I needed to take control."

Choosing the mastectomy helped Harris feel calmer and she firmly believes it was the best choice for her and her family.

Harris revealed that when she told her husband, Michael Hess, about her bad news, the two broke down in tears. "My knees gave out. We just cried together." But when she decided to undergo the comprehensive surgery, Harris and Hess felt much better, and knew it would be OK.

Crediting her positive prognosis on having caught the lump early on, Harris said, "I might not have found it until much further down the road. But, I didn't take no for an answer."

The former Dancing With the Stars host, who is mom to daughters Josselyn, 6, and Hillary, 3, will have her surgery later this month.

Not long after the pair tied the knot, Stacy Keibler and Jared Pobre announced they were also going to be parents. Now the newlyweds have learned that they are having a girl together.

Stacy Keibler: My killer legs cost a fortune >>

Looks like the happy couple will be decorating their new nursery in pink after reports confirm that Keibler and Pobre have a baby girl on the way, People magazine reported.

"They were excited for this blessing and just wanted a healthy baby," a friend of the lovebirds told the magazine. "They will make amazing parents as they are so in sync."

Keibler and Pobre got married early last month in an unexpected wedding ceremony during a vacation in Mexico with both their families. Another pal of the couple told Us Weekly that they were super-happy about the way their secret nuptials were celebrated.

"They've been head over heels with each other since they met," the source added.

Just two weeks after getting married, the happy couple announced they were expecting a baby together, and while they didn't think they'd be married or have kids so soon, they wouldn't have it any other way.

"When you meet the right person, everything changes," Keibler told People. "I'm so excited for the new chapter in my life. I'm so ready for it. I feel for the first time like I'm really fulfilled and at peace."

Just as fans were reeling about their surprise wedding, the creative pair announced their baby news by posting an Instagram photo of a literal bread bun cooking in the oven. "Look what we've got cooking," the photo caption said.

This will be the first baby for both Keibler, 34, and Pobre, 39.

Katherine Webb's reality show is none of your business

AJ McCarron and Katherine Webb have become an unlikely all-American celebrity couple, but not everyone is enjoying their time in the spotlight. McCarron was the quarterback for the University of Alabama, and Webb is a former Miss Alabama. After last year's national championship, the couple became celebrities in their own right.

Katherine Webb is flattered, no apology necessary >>

Webb and McCarron became engaged on March 29, 2014, and are again in the spotlight after Webb's sister announced their wedding is going to be made into a reality show.

"They've already started filming during the proposal," said Katherine's sister, Laurie Webb, according to NFL.com. "From what I understood, it came from someone else. I don't think they were trying to get into a reality show, I think they just had the opportunity and decided to take it."

Laurie Webb explained the show will be focusing on planning the wedding all the way up to July 11, when the ceremony is expected to take place. But it doesn't seem that Webb is involving McCarron at all, and he doesn't seem thrilled at the idea. He tweeted a reaction to the news on Wednesday.

The wedding is set to take place only a few months after McCarron goes up for the NFL draft, leaving some to wonder if the show may affect his eligibility.

"AJ McCarron's participation in a reality show will be discussed in meetings, but it shouldn't have any impact on his draft status," NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks told NFL.com. "He has been a solid character guy throughout his time at Alabama, so most scouts won't view this as a major deal. Plus, everyone understands his fiancée is an aspiring model/actress and this is part of the deal. Of course, McCarron will need to address all of the particulars of his new show with prospective teams, but I can't imagine it significantly impacting his draft stock in any way."

The 2014 NFL draft will begin on May 8.

Baby aspirin might save your life during pregnancy

In general, medications like aspirin and ibuprofen interfere with a woman's blood clotting abilities and pose a risk for bleeding during pregnancy.

Now, however, the U.S. Preventive Task Force is recommending that doctors rethink their anti-aspirin stance for pregnant women. The new review recommends that women at a high risk for preeclampsia, a potentially deadly condition during pregnancy marked by high blood pressure and protein in the urine, start a daily aspirin regimen.

Aspirin reduces the risk of preeclampsia

"No harmful effects for either mother or baby were found with a daily dose of aspirin."

Surprisingly, although many have feared aspirin during pregnancy for its potential to cause bleeding, the new review found that a daily 81-milligram dose of aspirin, beginning in the second trimester of pregnancy, can reduce the risk of preeclampsia by up to 24 percent.

The study also found that in addition to preventing preeclampsia, an aspirin regimen could reduce the risk of preterm birth by 14 percent and decrease the risk of intrauterine growth restriction (when a baby's growth is restricted in utero) by 20 percent. No harmful effects for either mother or baby were found with a daily dose of aspirin.

Who's at risk for preeclampsia?

Because the importance of the aspirin treatment in preeclampsia depends on the prevention of the condition, the key is identifying women who are at a high risk. Those women include:

  • Women with diabetes
  • Women who have a previous history of preeclampsia
  • Women with high blood pressure
  • Obese women
  • Women pregnant with multiples
  • Women with immune disorders

However, Eleni Tsigas, executive director of the Preeclampsia Foundation, says that doctors should be open to discussing aspirin with all of their patients. "All women are at risk for preeclampsia," he has stated.

Copycat Reese's peanut butter eggs

They're in the stores only around Easter, and I covet them like nothing else. Reese's peanut butter eggs are one of my favorite holiday indulgences, and with this copycat recipe, now I can have them whenever I like.

Copycat Reese's peanut butter eggs

I've remade this treasured treat using just a few ingredients, like all-natural peanut butter, powdered sugar and chocolate chips. This is an easy treat to duplicate. I have a feeling you're going to love these even more than the originals. Even better: You can make them at any time of the year.

Copycat Reese's peanut butter eggs

It's important to use vegetable shortening when you're melting your chocolate chips. This will help keep the chocolate smooth and clump free, and it will also help form a nice coating for your eggs. I stored mine in a zippered baggie with waxed paper in between each egg and popped them in the freezer. You don't have to freeze them, but it's best to keep them in a cool environment.

Copycat Reese's peanut butter eggs recipe

Yields 10-12

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup all-natural peanut butter (you can use regular peanut butter), either smooth or crunchy
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus an extra 1/4 cup reserved
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • Waxed paper

Directions:

  1. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper, and set it aside.
  2. Add the peanut butter, 1/2 a cup of the powdered sugar and the vanilla to a food processor. Pulse just for a minute or less until the mixture forms into a clump.
  3. If the mixture seems a bit soft, then add the reserved powdered sugar, and pulse again a few times until combined. Alternatively, if it seems too dry, then add 1/2 a tablespoon of milk, and pulse until combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, with the baking sheet near you.
  5. Pinch off about 1-1/2 tablespoons' worth of the mixture, and form it into a flat-bottomed egg. Place it on the waxed paper. You can adjust the size of each egg as you like.
  6. When you have all your eggs on the baking sheet, place it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Remove the eggs from the freezer, and keep the baking sheet with the waxed paper nearby.
  8. Add the chocolate chips and vegetable shortening to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 15- to 30-second increments, depending on your microwave. When the chips are almost completely melted, use a spoon to stir the mixture, which will help melt any remaining chips.
  9. Slide a fork under each egg, one at a time, and dip it into the melted chocolate. You can use a spoon to help coat the tops of the eggs, as needed.
  10. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off each egg, back into the bowl. Place the eggs on the baking sheet. Allow the chocolate to harden completely before removing them.
  11. Store the peanut butter eggs in a cool place or in the freezer in a sealable baggie with waxed paper between each egg.

Now you can enjoy these treats any time of year.

VIDEO: Vivid demands Farrah Abraham stay silent

Farrah Abraham's teen mom-turned-singer-turned-porn star career has become even messier. News of the starlet's upcoming erotic novel Celebrity Sex Tape: In The Making has some of her old bosses concerned, and we're not talking about the executives over at MTV.

TMZ reports that Vivid Entertainment CEO Steve Hirsch has sent Abraham a cease and desist letter, which demands that the 22-year-old star keep quiet on all of his company's secrets, including exactly how they scout and hire their talent. Hirsch reportedly is well aware that Abraham is knowledgeable about the company's trade secrets and is scared that she'll open a can of worms.

Those secrets includes some inside perspective on Abraham's very first sex tape, Back Door Teen Mom, which featured porn honcho James Deen. Even though the tape was marketed to the public as authentic footage, it is reported that it was instead a planned production courtesy of the Vivid Entertainment boss man.

Abraham's Celebrity Sex Tape: In The Making is set to be the first book in her erotic novel trilogy and is loosely based on her own experience in the adult entertainment industry. However, there's one small tidbit that might keep Hirsch's secrets safe. Abraham signed a confidentiality agreement that prevents her from sharing any behind-the-scenes action even if it is disguised as loose fiction. At time of press, Abraham had yet to respond to Hirsch's reported cease and desist letter.

Despite two sex tapes and a sex-toy line under her belt, Abraham confessed to InTouch Weekly back in January that the sex tape actually ruined her life, emphasizing that she didn't realize how much attention the footage would bring her. It sounds like someone changed her mind.

Abraham's Celebrity Sex Tape: In The Making is set to drop on July 2, 2014.
