One-third of moms have gone years without sex!

An exclusive survey conducted by Family Circle magazine asked moms to share everything from how often they drink alcohol to how they lose weight to how often they have sex (or, don't have sex). The results completely surprised us, especially when it came to sex.

"15 to 20 percent of couples are in sexless marriages"

Survey says…

  • 32 percent of moms with children of any age report having gone at least a few years without having sex
  • 36 percent have gone a few months with no sex
  • 27 percent have gone a few weeks
  • And only 5 percent have gone just a few days with no sex

To see the entire survey, click here >>

We understand that having sex on an even semi-regular basis can be hard with kids (of any age) in the house (I should know; I currently have two under two). But nurturing your relationship with your husband is important, too, for both your marriage and your family.

Are you in a sexless marriage?

According to Newsweek magazine, 15 to 20 percent of couples are in sexless marriages. A sexless marriage is defined as having sex fewer than 10 times per year.

Clearly, married couples are extremely different now than they were decades back. Lori Gottlieb, who wrote The New York Times' Does a More Equal Marriage Mean Less Sex?, discusses how today, the majority of marriages have both spouses working and both spouses contributing to household chores. This egalitarian way of going about a marriage may have “an unexpectedly negative impact on these couples' sex lives.”

“The greater the husband's share of masculine chores compared with feminine ones, the greater his wife's reported sexual satisfaction,” Gottlieb states. And what about those that are least likely to get divorced? A study conducted by Lynn Prince Cooke found that “the predicted risk of divorce is lowest when the husband does 40 percent of the housework and the wife earns 40 percent on the income.”

One could conclude that you're less likely to get divorced if your husband helps with household chores but apparently if he doesn't do more masculine chores than feminine chores, you're less likely to have sexual satisfaction. So maybe sexless marriages are more prevalent today because of our evolving roles in the home and at work but either way, study after study shows the importance that sex has in marriage. It's not simply the icing on the cake, it's a main ingredient.

Ladies, let's agree to start having more sex and better sex.

How sex benefits you

Sure, men love sex for obvious reasons, but let's focus on what it can do for us.

For starters, you'll feel much less stressed. Having sex and being intimate with your loved one releases those feel-good hormones that make for a healthier, happier you.

Not only will sex make you happier, it also boosts your immune system, makes your skin glow, helps reduce pain (like headaches), improves your relationship and helps you sleep. As far as the downsides, well, we can't think of any. Sex is a great form of exercise and may just give you that second boost you need.

Real women on how to make sex a priority

We know all the reasons in the book not to have sex. We're too tired, too busy, too stressed, have a headache, aren't in the mood, it's the last thing on our mind. So, how can we stop making excuses and start making it a priority?

  • Set a sex alarm. In other words, start thinking about sex at the beginning of your day. Nancy and her husband have been married 20 years and have two kids. “We set two alarms for the morning. The first wakes us up and gives us time, just us, to cuddle, talk or do other things as a couple. The second is for us to actually get out of bed. This way we always have a few minutes for each other,” she states.
  • Schedule sex — and keep the appointment. Sure, scheduling sex diminishes the spontaneity, but scheduled sex is better than no sex. Sharri, mom of three boys, schedules sex three times per week (Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday for a mid-week perk). She's guaranteed a 20-minute massage; he's guaranteed sex. Now that's something we can get on board with!
  • Just say yes. My husband and I have an unspoken rule that we don't deny each other. And guess what? If I actually do have a headache or am completely exhausted, he doesn't ask! It's a win-win for both of us. Another pointer: The only way to actually make sex a priority is to just do it.
  • Learn to enjoy it. Brandi, mom of three, always dreaded sex because she didn't feel there was anything in it for her. She says, “I thought sex was just for the man, but once I started figuring out my own body and viewing it as a way to intimately connect with my husband, I started looking forward to it. Heck, I'm even the main initiator now!” If sex is something you truly enjoy, you'll want to have it.

SPOILERS: Switched at Birth's Vanessa Marano shares finale deets

Switched at Birth Season 3 has been a roller-coaster ride for every character on the show, none more so than Bay. From finding out that Ty had (apparently) cheated on her to injuring her hand and possibly losing her ability to do art, Bay has had it rough this season.

Miss the last episode of Switched at Birth? Check out our recap >>

In a recent episode, Bay finally found out that Ty didn't really cheat on her, which was a big moment, according to Marano. "That's a big deal for Bay because she gets cheated on a lot. So for her to realize that somebody didn't cheat on her kind of throws her head into a tornado of confusion."

Bay's had her fair share of breakups on the show, probably due to her very strong personality. It's a trait that Marano admires about her character. "[Bay]'s not the easiest person to get along with. She's very honest about who she is, though, which I love about her. She's like, 'Hey, take me or leave me, good or bad, this is who I am.'"

Bay's injury to her hand caused big problems for her and Marano said that she's not nearly out of the woods yet, even after her surgery.

"She's always had art. Art has always been there for her and never let her down and now she can't paint, she can't draw, she is also having trouble signing. There's a lot of drama surrounding the hand."

One thing that has actually been going well this season for Bay is her relationship with her sister Daphne. Unlike last season, where they fought a lot, the two have been getting along pretty well. Believe it or not, Marano misses the fights, but not for the reason you might think.

INTERVIEW: Switched at Birth's Lucas Grabeel on Toby's dance solo, drama ahead >>

"I love Katie Leclerc with a fiery passion — probably she should get a restraining order," Marano joked.

"[But] we only have scenes together when Daphne and Bay are fighting, so I'm partial to it because that's when we actually get a chance to work together and have fun together."

Something that wasn't nearly as fun for Marano was finding out about the dance episode that aired earlier this season. "I thought it was a joke," Marano admitted. "Because it's been a joke since the pilot because I can't sing or dance.

"So I wasn't excited, which I think made everybody more into it because everybody loves when I'm not excited about things," Marano added with a laugh. "The poor choreographer had to deal with me stepping on Sean's feet and me falling."

As for the Season 3 finale, Marano was excited to talk about one scene in particular. But be warned, it sounds like it won't be an easy one to watch.

"One memorable scene wasn't my favorite to shoot — it was probably my least favorite to shoot because of the circumstances," Marano teased. "I'm just going to say it was cold. That's all I'm going to say, but it's the most memorable scene of the finale. It's the last scene of the finale and I think people are going to freak out."

How will fans feel at the end of the finale? Be prepared for a mixture of feelings. "As far as Bay goes, it's kind of a cliff-hanger. They're gonna kind of be surprised. I think they're gonna be surprised that they're feeling angry or that they're happy, because they're probably going to feel both emotions at the same time," Marano said.

Reasons the Switched at Birth Season 2 finale left us satisfied >>

Marano promised that other characters will have some shocking moments in the finale as well. "There [are] definitely some crazy moments with Daphne in the finale and Lucas [Grabeel]'s storyline — he has a great scene in the finale that I'm really excited for everybody to see."

INTERVIEW: The Blacklist star reveals Aram's secrets

The Blacklist - Amir Arison interview

The next episode of The Blacklist airs on Monday, and according to star Amir Arison, his character Aram "may have met his match" in the new Blacklister. The next name on Red's list is a person who's going to put Aram's computer skills to the test.

The Blacklist's dangerous secret: Who's your daddy? >>

What about Arison's skills at the computer? Turns out he's not too bad, either. "Do I have a master's in chemical and technical engineering, and do I know how to hack into satellites and transfer $5 million into my own account? If I did, I wouldn't need to act on The Blacklist," Arison joked, adding, "I may be not as good as Aram, but I'm pretty good."

Fans of Aram might be surprised to learn that he wasn't supposed to appear in more than one episode. But the role was fleshed out once the creators saw what Arison brought to it. "I did a little improvisation by the computer and they used it," Arison revealed, "which is pretty rare for a scripted network show. When I saw that they used it, I said, 'Oh, they're responding to me.' And then sure enough after I saw that, I got called in for another episode, and then more episodes kept coming in. Once we got to the two-parter I saw them really kind of writing that persona that I improvised with, and it was amazing."

The two-part episode was "Anslo Garrick," which gave Aram a chance to take part in the action. Unfortunately, it also put him on Red's radar when the criminal mastermind went looking for the mole. Luckily, Aram came out clean — a fact that made Arison happy as well. "On this show, [if you wrong] Liz or Reddington, then you have an expiring clock. So I'm happy that I didn't wrong either Agent Keen or Ray Reddington."

SPOILERS: Are Girls' Adam and Hannah headed to splitsville? >>

As for Aram's future, Arison hopes that more might be learned about how he's dealing with all of the things he's been put through as part of the team, as well as more of his life at home. "I guess I hope at some point that they show Aram's feelings towards those situations or how he's handling those situations. I guess the next thing that would be fun is to show a little bit of Aram's personal life," Arison said.

The writers have been taking some cues from Arison on what to write for Aram, something that has never happened before in his career. "You hear about that [from] acting teachers and people in the business [who say] the best roles on TV are when the writers start writing to the actor's voice and it starts to blend. This is the first time in my career that that's happened, and it's very exciting and very magical."

When asked to talk about his role on this season of Girls, Arison responded enthusiastically, sounding like a big fan himself. "What a great show! Oh my God, I love Girls!"

Arison played the role of Kevin, a guy that Hannah didn't like at all at first, but he seemed to maybe grow on her after a while. Arison liked playing the antithesis of Hannah. "I think I was basically Hannah's cautionary tale of what can happen to you if you sell out to corporate writing," Arison said. "So I could be everything that Hannah doesn't want to be. I was, like, bitter, proud, arrogant, judge-y, not that sharp when it comes to ideas. Everything that Hannah doesn't want to be, I got to play."

Between Aram and Kevin, the two roles couldn't be more opposite from each other. For Arison, it was fun playing both sides of the same coin. "Aram is probably closer to how I am day to day, but I guess all of us have an inner diva, so I think I let that out for Kevin."

Can't get enough of Arison? Don't worry, he's got plenty more projects coming up, including Merry Friggin' Christmas, a film that is due out later this year. The film stars Robin Williams, and Arison will play "an Afghan immigrant who speaks very little English, so comic mayhem ensues. That was a blast."

Girls star Adam Driver may be newest Star Wars evildoer >>

Another recently wrapped project is an indie film called Jane Wants a Boyfriend. The movie stars Eliza Dushku as a woman with a sister Jane (Louisa Krause) with autism. Arison plays Dushku's fiancé and best friend to the man that Jane wants to date. "That was made with a lot of heart," Arison said about the film.

As for the Aram fans out there, Arison said they should look out for the second season of his digital series H+. Arison said Aram fans will especially like it because "it's all about the future of computers, a computer virus and what happens if everyone has got an implant with the Internet in their head."

Kim Kardashian's letter of mommy wisdom to Mila Kunis

Dear Mila Kunis,

Hey, girl! This is, like, Kim Kardashian. You may have heard of me. I just landed the cover of Vogue with my baby daddy, Kanye West (aka #WorldsMostTalkedAboutCouple). So, I like, heard that you were, like in a family way, so I decided to like, give you some mommy advice.

The first thing you should know about being pregnant is that it's all about you, so feel free, to, like, lay on the drama. Thick. You can get away with it because you are growing a mini-me! When I was pregnant, I was like, forever crying and rushing to the hospital and like, calling Kanye. People feel sorry for you. So take advantage of it. I did have a life-threatening, super rare condition called pre-eclampsia, which affects roughly one in 10 pregnant ladies, so I was like, almost dead for most of pregnancy.

The other rare pregnancy disorder I had was, like, weight gain. I got like all super fat and disgusting. I was gross. For a while, I thought babies were stupid. Plus, the tabloids were all like mean and everything. Like all people could talk about was how fat I was, which I thought was super unfair because I was all, like, growing a baby and feeding it with, like, you know 10 pizzas a day. So girl, ignore the haters. It's the one time in your life when you can eat, like, you know food with lots of cheese and stuff because that's dairy, and babies need milk.

When it comes to baby names, be like, super creative. Kanye and I got a lot of crap for naming our baby North but, like, who wouldn't want to be my baby and who wouldn't want to have a super unique name like North? People are soooo dumb. It's North West! Get it, people? Sometimes, I'm just like, "God, am I the only like super cool person left on the planet?" It will be harder to find a really cool baby name for you because Ashton's last name is Kutcher, which doesn't really mean anything. And don't, like, name your kid East or West or South because I'm gonna have, like, more kids.

So, like no hard feelings, but I looked at your Instagram profile, and it kinda like, sucks. If you want to be a good mommy, you're going to have to get a lot better at selfies. The best way to get back at the haters when you get super lardo is to lose weight super fast. You do this by having the plastic surgeon come in after you squeeze out your kid and get lipo and a tummy tuck. Then you dress up really cute, pretend to work out at the gym and take lots of selfies to prove that you went to the gym. That, like, totally makes the haters mad.

Oh, you're going to have so much fun being pregnant! Before I get back to my fake gym workout, I want to remind you to, like, totally profit from your baby. Like, I designed, like baby clothes and everyone wants to buy them because my baby is so cute! My mom told me it's never too early to start making money off your kids, and my mom is always, like, totally right.

OK, Mila, I'm behind on my tweets for the day! Gotta run (not really, 'cause I had plastic surgery). See you in the tabloids!

XOXOXO,

Kim Kardashian

Ireland Baldwin changes her hair color again — it's turquoise

Perhaps the fact that Ireland Baldwin is newly single — having split from her surfer boyfriend Slater Trout earlier this month — has made her want to express her individuality even more than usual because the model has just changed her hair to another colorful shade.

Baldwin hasn't only been making changes to her romantic life, but she's also making some colorful changes to her physical appearance and just recently debuted a set of lilac locks on her Instagram account.

According to Us Weekly, at the time of her hair color change, Baldwin wrote, "I could get used to this." She later added, "Purple hair and work out clothes really don't go together. Like I may have to give up physical activity for my purple hair."

However, the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger obviously didn't love her new hairdo as much as she had suggested because she has already opted to dye her hair a brand new turquoise blue hue.

Baldwin uploaded a selfie of her sitting in a car and sporting a new look on Thursday. She captioned the image, "Tangled up in blue || thanks to all the babes at the @mrchrismcmillan salon. Love you @anderssonjj and @hairbymarilee."

And whilst we have seen quite a few famous faces opt for a lilac hairstyle in the past, we have not seen too many embrace turquoise, but Baldwin manages to pull it off. However, her life is not just all about changing her hair; she's also been making a lot of new friends.

According to Us Weekly, the model joined Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the 86th Academy Awards on March 2, and she had plenty of snapshots with Hollywood A-listers, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Lawrence and Jared Leto.

We guess being single is working in Baldwin's favor then?

How to properly train your cat to play nice

Use your words

The moment your cat scratches a human or does something you deem as inappropriate behavior, give it a firm "No!" Although cats believe that you are their pet, it is still important to show who is boss. Avoid yelling, as this may scare the cat, but use a tone other than you normally do so that your cat understands your seriousness. Also, add its name, so it fully understands that the disciplinary action is directed towards it.

The silent treatment

Another option for disciplining your cat is to give it the silent treatment, meaning, ignore it. Immediately stop playing, interacting and giving any affection toward your kitty. It will immediately understand that you no longer want to play with it and should walk away. Should it attempt an "apology" by rubbing against you while purring, give it a slight pat to accept, but do not cuddle as normal so it understands her punishment.

Physical discipline

Physical discipline with your cat definitely isn't the best approach since it may become fearful of you. You want to show your cat that biting you is inappropriate. Lightly cuff its face, say "no," and let it go. Spanking or hitting your cat will do more harm than good, as well as chasing it for discipline.

Spray bottles

Perhaps one of the most-effective ways to teach a bite-loving cat to stop is to utilize a spray bottle. A bit of a reactive discipline method, you will need to have the spray bottle on hand for any moment the cat strikes. Once it bites, immediately spray it in the face with water so that it is uncomfortable and avoids the actions that cause it to receive the discipline. If it is biting or tearing furniture, you may also want to set a booby trap to spray it whenever it does anything inappropriate.

Everyday practice

Don't forget to make time for your cat daily. It needs and wants love from its human! Sometimes cats will act out when they are not getting enough attention or have a medical problem. If you see that your cat's behavior changes abruptly, make an appointment with the vet to ensure that there isn't an underlying issue.

Other options

  • If you don't want your cat to scratch any of the human kind, give it a few options around the house. Set up a scratching post or play area that is exclusively just for your cat with a few toys and things that it is allowed to scratch and chew. This will help it let out its natural need to scratch things, especially you.
  • Play with your cat. Teach and show your cat what is appropriate during playtime. If it attempts any biting or scratching, refer to the above, and give it a stern "No!" and stop the play session.
  • Another thing to incorporate in your kitty's everyday life is rewards for good behavior. If you notice it gets up and leaves a situation rather than attacking, reward it with kind words and an occasional treat. This will help it learn what is appropriate behavior and what is not.

5 Reasons not to introduce your kids to your boyfriend

Young couple with baloon | Sheknows.com

Countdown to the big reveal

More and more, moms are faced with the conundrum of when to introduce their kids to their boyfriend. Here is a family therapist's take on why it's important to postpone the big reveal.

So you're over the moon for your new man, right? Great. You're fabulous and you deserve it. But you need to protect your children from falling for him, too, until you know where the relationship is headed. Marriage and family therapist Dr. Jane Greer provided us with these five compelling reasons not to introduce your boyfriend to your kids just yet.

1

A painful reminder

Believe it or not, most children long for their parents to get back together following a separation or divorce. According to Dr. Greer, introducing a new boyfriend is a reminder that you and your ex will not reconcile, which is emotionally weighty for kids. Before you start bringing your date around, make sure he is worthy of the emotions your kids will face after introductions.

"It's ... important to restore your kids' sense of security before introducing a new boyfriend."
2

Threatened security

As a mom, you know your kids are completely irreplaceable. Unfortunately, your kids may not understand their worth in your eyes, and will likely feel threatened by a new love interest. "Kids may feel threatened about losing their mother's attention and having to share their time with her," said Dr. Greer. If you start dating immediately following a separation, it's especially important to restore your kids' sense of security before introducing a new boyfriend. Kids naturally feel confused, disjointed and insecure following a divorce. Make sure they feel safe and secure in your new family unit prior to introducing a date.

4

Increased anxiety

Whether your split was amicable or strained, the father of your children is irreplaceable in your children' lives. Your kids will never have another biological dad, and it will cause them great anxiety if they sense a new man is around to replace their dad. Dr. Greer added that if you rush into introductions, your children won't have time to process their anxiety about a "replacement" dad.

3

Emotional upheaval

"When parents are separated or divorced," said Dr. Greer, "the focus needs to be on the kids' maintaining their relationship with each parent. They don't need the added burden of interacting and relating to a new person." Reflect on how you feel when a string of dates and relationships churn through your life. You feel pretty crummy after a while, right? Your kids will feel the same way if low-commitment boyfriends start hanging around and then leaving.

5

Strained connection

If your relationship with your ex was terrible, it makes sense that you want to move on and meet someone new. But kids process their losses differently than adults and will continue to feel the affects of the separation for quite some time. "It's important for kids to maintain a connection with their father, without sharing any affection with someone who may only be passing through," said Dr. Greer. "Not only that, if you move on from the new boyfriend, they'll have to deal with yet another loss in quick succession."

So with all of these potential consequences, how can you ever feel right about introducing your kids to a boyfriend? "Wait until it's an exclusive and stable relationship that appears to be ongoing," said Dr. Greer. You have the green light for introductions if you have a solid reason to believe your man will stick around for the long haul.

Kids using map and GPS | Sheknows.com

Cabin fever has set in on most families across the country. We have had an unusually long and colder than usual winter that was felt well into the South. Everyone is ready to get active and get back outdoors.

geocaching Homeschool fun

With spring just around the corner, geocaching might be the perfect activity to incorporate some outdoor lessons in your lesson plans. Geocaching is a great way to cover multiple homeschool lessons while having fun.

What is geocaching

Geocaching (pronounced GEE-o-cash-ing) offers children a fun and safe way to learn about the wonders of the outdoors. Geocaching is a modern day, worldwide, family-friendly treasure hunt. Participants go on a journey to find small containers called geocaches. Seekers can visit a site like Geocaching.com to search for caches hidden in their area. Geocaches can contain a variety of objects that people have left, such as pens, notes, toys, handmade items, stationery or anything you can leave inside the geocache for the next person to find. There is a general rule that if you take something from the geocache, you must leave something.

How to incorporate geocaching into your homeschool

Geocaching can be used in a variety of ways to supplement your homeschool lessons. Geocaching encourages children to explore their surroundings while using critical thinking skills to find the cache.

Math and mapping skills

This is a fun hands-on activity to learn latitude and longitude. Use GPS, as well as a compass, to find locations locally and around the world via Geocaching.com. Follow GPS coordinates to find the items to measure, then figure out the average. They can learn fractions with these free geocache fraction worksheets.

Safety

Compass | Sheknows.com

Show your children how to be safe in the woods, as well as how to survive should they got lost in the woods.

Physical education

Once you have found areas with hidden geocaches, the hiking begins. Map out your path and take a long walk to find your geocaches, a great way to get in some exercise.

Art

Make items to put into the geocaches once you have found and emptied them. It's always good to put something back in for the next person to find when you have taken something out.

Unit studies

You can create your own unit studies incorporating vocabulary, math, science, history and art within the items you choose to put into your caches. Whether it be old coins from another country or objects from other countries that you create.

Science

Have children keep a journal to take note of their surroundings or what they find. The best way to learn is to talk and walk; ask open-ended questions about objects or seek out science lessons with your five senses. Teach earth science with this free 90-page educator's guide.

Last, but certainly not least, you can search for your very own Travel Bug. A Travel Bug is a trackable tag that you attach to an item that moves from place-to-place, picking up stories along the way. You can add your own story or live vicariously through each Bug's adventures.

We explored Tamil history from its origins through modern times to uncover these fabulous baby names for girls and boys.

Tamil names for girls and boys

While some modern-day Tamils have embraced Islam and Christianity, most are Hindu, and many of the baby names we've rounded up — both ancient and modern — are of Hindu origin.

There are tens of thousands of Tamil names for girls and boys. Here's we've listed one name, with origin and meaning for each letter of the alphabet (except X):

3 Savory & sweet recipes for gooey spoon bread

$
0
0

These savory and sweet, fluffy spoon breads have the best consistency, like a mix of custard and fluffy Yorkshire pudding. Plus, you can make these savory, sweet or a mix of both, which is what I did. Because sometimes you just need a little bit of both, right?

1

Asparagus and goat cheese spoon bread recipe

Asparagus and goat cheese spoonbread

Serves about 6-7

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1-1/4 cups cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 bunch asparagus, stem ends removed
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 6 ounces goat cheese
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place the asparagus in a 9 x 13-inch glass baking dish and drizzle with olive oil and salt and pepper. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until asparagus is soft. Let cool and then cut into bite-size pieces.
  2. Meanwhile, bring the milk to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir in the cornmeal and cook another 1-2 minutes, whisking continuously. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and liberally grease an 8 x 8-inch baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter. Place the cornmeal mixture, baking powder, eggs, salt and pepper into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Melt the remaining butter in the microwave and pour into the cornmeal mixture.
  4. Beat until fluffy and aerated, about 10 minutes. Stir in the asparagus and goat cheese. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Bake for about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Strawberry & blueberry spoon bread with balsamic fruit glaze recipe

Strawberry & blueberry spoonbread with balsamic fruit glaze

Recipe adapted from Homesick Texan

Serves about 4

Ingredients:

For the bread:

  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup almond meal
  • 1/4 cup finely ground cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons Egg Beaters
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream
  • Salt
For the fruit sauce:
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 3/4 cup strawberries, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Dash lemon zest

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 4 small ramekins with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Place the milk in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Whisk in the almond meal and cornmeal. Remove from heat and pour the mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer.
  3. Fit the bowl with a paddle attachment and add the brown sugar, Egg Beaters, unsalted butter, baking powder and a dash of salt. Stir in the fresh strawberries. Pour the bread into the ramekins and place on a cookie sheet. Bake for about 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. Meanwhile, make the sauce. Pour the vinegar into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Reduce to low and let simmer for about 6 minutes, or until reduced by half. Add the strawberries, blueberries and brown sugar. Stir in the lemon zest.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes. Using the back of a spoon, press the berries gently against the side of the pan. Continue to simmer until mixture is thick, almost like a syrup. This may take about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  6. Once the spoon breads have cooled, top with whipped cream and a spoonful of sauce.

Is your food storage killing you?

$

0

Everyone loves leftovers. They're convenient, cheap and sometimes even tastier than they were the day they were cooked. Before you throw that plastic storage container of leftovers into the microwave, consider the dangers to your health. Switch to healthy food storage alternatives to avoid potential dangers from plastics.

What's the deal with plastic food storage?

Plastic storage containers can contain bisphenol A (BPA), a hormone disrupter. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, more than 90 percent of the general population has BPA in their bodies. High levels of BPA have been shown to cause serious health problems in test animals. Some food storage containers have phthalates and dioxins, harmful chemicals associated with the production of plastic products. All of these chemicals have the potential to enter your food, especially if you microwave them or wash them in the dishwasher.

What are alternatives to plastic food containers?

As the general public has become more aware of the dangers of plastic food storage containers, more and more alternatives have hit the market. Aluminum, glass, ceramic and stoneware are considered safe food storage materials. These materials don't release chemicals into food. Keep in mind that aluminum is expensive and resource-intensive to produce. If you're going for an Earth-friendly alternative, glass is an excellent option.

How do I store my food safely?

Ready to make the switch from plastic storage containers? We've collected stylish, helpful food storage containers that are perfect for leftovers, school lunches and freezer storage.

Sarah Michelle Gellar blasts Kim K's Vogue cover

Kim Kardashian has finally gotten her coveted Vogue cover, which is believed to have been her lifelong dream.

However, Anna Wintour's decision to feature the reality TV star and her beau Kanye West on Vogue's April cover has created a stream of criticism, and one celebrity made the decision to openly voice her disapproval.

Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Twitter on Friday to express her distaste for the prestigious fashion magazine's decision to feature Kardashian and West on its cover.

5 Celebs before and after Photoshop >>

She tweeted, "Well……I guess I'm canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???"

And there were plenty of people who agreed with Gellar because her tweet found itself being retweeted and added to favorites thousands of times. Although, whilst many of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star's fans agreed with her, Kardashian's fans were unimpressed with her snarky comment.

The reality TV star's best friend, Jonathan Cheban, was quick to come to her defense and retweeted Gellar's message, adding, "Do u matter?" Ouch!

Wintour must have known she would receive backlash over her latest controversial cover decision, so she preemptively chose to address the matter in her Editor's Letter.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. welcome baby boy >>

"As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue's cover. He did nothing of the sort," Wintour wrote.

"Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world's spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that."

Gellar is probably not the only celebrity who would like to cancel her Vogue subscription now, but since she has never made it to the front cover of the fashion magazine, many believe her comments stemmed from jealousy.

Other celebrities have reacted in different ways, and the cover has been made into a humorous spoof from Seth Rogen and James Franco, who decided to Photoshop their heads over Kimye's.

Franco uploaded the picture to his Instagram on Friday night with the caption, "Seth! Love you, dog!"

Colon cancer awareness receives a social media buttlift

Belfies for charity are breaking wind

Butt. Hiney. Tuckus. Ass. No matter what you call it, your rear end deserves respect. It puts up with a lot of... well, you know. Because March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation launched the latest rendition of its hugely popular Love Your Butt campaign, and I must say — it kicks ass.

Love Your Butt

In memory of his mother, Christine "Chris" Sapienza, who lost her battle with colon cancer five years ago, Michael Sapienza launched the Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation. Now in its fourth year, it’s become the second largest colon cancer organization in the country. They’ve become known for the clever and fun ways they get people talking about colon cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer deaths for both men and women combined.

Last year, their Love Your Butt campaign focused on how many names we have for our bottom (seriously, I can’t believe it either). This year, they’re promoting the fact that we’re all bootylicious in our own way — and have launched a super-cheeky campaign.

It seems like perfect timing, thanks to celebs like Kim Kardashian and Rihanna, that belfies have become all the rage (in fact, I think I’ve seen their asses more than my own). Now we can all get in on the action while supporting an amazing cause, bringing to the forefront a type of cancer that’s been associated with a stigma and embarrassment for way too long. When caught early, colon cancer is 90 percent treatable through early screening.

Chris4Life is also part of an initiative called 80 percent by 2018 — where organizations are dedicated to eliminating colon cancer as a major public health problem, with a shared goal of reaching 80 percent of adults screened by 2018.

The art of the perfect belfie

Snap pics of your honkey tonk badonkadonks and post them to your fave social media platforms using the #LoveYourButt hashtag (keep it PG please). If you’re going to take a picture of your humps, here are some pointers to help you put your best cheek forward:

  • Wear your fave dress or butt jeans. We all have that one item of clothing that tempts us to make out with ourselves.
  • Lighting is important. Flashes will highlight everything you don’t want to see.
  • Choose your setting wisely. Make sure there’s nothing scandalous in the reflection of your mirror.
  • Work your angles. Practice the Tyra Banks’ booty tooch and start snapping!

Cajun shrimp pizza

Cajun shrimp pizza

Pizza night at our house is one of my favorites. Sometimes we keep it plain and just use cheese and pepperoni, but sometimes we make it a little fancy. This Cajun shrimp pizza is spicy and smoky in flavor. The fresh shrimp cook perfectly in the oven and that spicy Cajun spice is just the right amount of needed heat.

Cajun shrimp pizza recipe

Yields 1 (12 inch) pizza

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pizza dough, store-bought
  • 1/2 pound medium cleaned and shelled shrimp
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers, any color
  • 1/2 cup sliced yellow onion
  • 1/3 cup pizza sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Let the pizza dough sit until room temperature. This helps so the dough will stretch without shrinking back up.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  3. In a small bowl, add shrimp, Cajun seasoning and 1 teaspoon smoked paprika. Mix together until shrimp is coated. Set in the fridge while you prepare the rest of the pizza.
  4. In a large skillet set over medium heat, add olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add in bell peppers and onion. Sauté until soft.
  5. Prepare a baking sheet with a Silpat liner. Stretch out the dough to create a 12-inch circle, or, if it's easier, you can shape it into a rectangle.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together pizza sauce, remaining 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika and cayenne pepper.
  7. Spread the sauce onto the dough leaving a 1-inch crust around the edge. Sprinkle on the cheese, add sautéed peppers and onions and top with raw shrimp.
  8. Bake for about 18 minutes until the shrimp is fully cooked, the cheese is lightly browned and the dough is cooked.
  9. Let rest for 3 minutes and slice.

Dancing is... illegal? Not in Kevin Bacon's world. In a brilliantly contrived skit for Jimmy Fallon, the star proved he still has the moves that made him a star in his breakout film Footloose.

Bacon was seen in his dressing room when he overheard Fallon tell the audience that dancing has been outlawed on The Tonight Show, sending The Following star into a Ren McCormack-esque frenzy complete with smoking, beer bottle throwing and angry dancing in his dressing room.

This dating app lets men bribe you for a date

Carrots only work on rabbits

Internet and online dating have taken the whole, "There's an app for that" saying a little too far. There's an online dating site and typically an accompanying matching mobile app for every possible "type." If you're old, religious, just looking to get laid, want to get married — and now, thanks to carrotdating.com there is an app for people who can't get a date in the conventional way — through a pleasing appearance and pleasant personality. All you need is the proper bribe.

Carrot Dating app

Calling all men of the universe: Please be warned if you purchase something for me that poops all over my carpet, gets up late at night and needs to be fed regularly, I will junk punch you. I am in my 40s with two adult children and was married for 21 years. I've been caring for others my whole life. I'm all about lessening my obligations, not increasing them. This is a little something that carrotdating.com overlooked in the, "How To Not Impress Women" handbook.

Giving me something that craps on my floor is actually less offensive than the overall premise of this concept. The very idea that someone with a cellular device and at least $20 in their pocket can buy their way to affection is appalling. Hasn't online dating done enough to rob men of all dating and relationship motivation? "Hey, if I've got to work too hard for this girl, there's a database over here with hundreds of other women that I can bribe."

What is the message behind this site? That no matter how lazy or how much of a tool bag a guy is, if he buys me a nice dinner, I'll look the other way when he eats his scabs at the table and farts in public? Have we become that desperate for a date?

This concept makes me shudder at the thought of what comes next for online dating and mobile dating apps. Are we just a tweak or two away from, "An online app for singles who get off when they pop balloons!" or "Now there's a mobile app for singles who like to make out with their cars?" (Yes, maybe I have been watching too many episodes of My Strange Addiction.

After a surprise wedding to her new beau Jared Pobre, Stacy Keibler has stunned fans once again by announcing she is pregnant with her and her husband's first child on Monday, March 24.

It wasn't long after she broke up with George Clooney that Keibler, 30, rebounded with a new man and shortly after married Pobre in a surprise ceremony on March 8. Now, the couple has more good news, announcing that they are expecting a baby this summer.

Stacy Keibler: My killer legs cost a fortune >>

Keibler and Pobre are reportedly "over the moon about becoming parents," according to People magazine, and can't wait for the arrival of their new addition.

"More blessings!! We're an elated family-to-be!" the couple told the magazine. Pobre, 39, added that he's "extremely excited about starting a family and building a future with Stacy."

Keibler also shared her happy announcement on Instagram, posting a photo of a real bun in the oven with a Twitter caption saying, "Look what we've got cooking! A Bun'dle of love!"

Keibler and her tech entrepreneur husband were not initially planning on getting married and starting a family, but she admitted that "when you meet the right person, everything changes." The future parents actually knew each other and were friends for five years before they became romantically involved last fall.

Upon exchanging vows, Keibler admitted that she was now eager to start a family with Pobre and was very much looking forward to what's ahead. "I'm so ready for it. I feel for the first time like I'm really fulfilled and at peace."

Text messages between Reeva Steenkamp and Oscar Pistorius read at his murder trial revealed a tempestuous, passionate relationship — and depending on how they are interpreted by the judge, could hurt the athlete's case.

Texts from Steenkamp accuse Pistorius of being moody, controlling and unhappy.

VIDEO: Oscar Pistorius went into combat mode over laundry noise >>

"I'm the girl who let go with u, even when I was scared out of my mind to," Reeva Steenkamp wrote in one message three weeks before her death.

"I'm the girl who fell in love with u and wanted to tell u this weekend but I'm also the girl that gets sidestepped when you are in a [expletive] mood. When I feel you think u have me so why try anymore…

"From the outside I think it looks like we are a struggle and maybe that's what we are," she wrote in another message. "I just want to love and be loved. Be happy and make someone SO happy. Maybe we can't do that for each other. Cos right now I know u aren't happy and I am certainly very unhappy and sad.

Oscar Pistorius breaks down over gruesome testimony at trial >>

"I get snapped at and told my accents and voices are annoying. I touch your neck to show u I care you tell me to stop. Stop chewing gum. Do this don't do that. You don't want to hear stuff cut me off.

"I am trying my best to make u happy and I feel as tho u sometimes never are no matter the effort I put in," she wrote after Pistorius criticized her at a public function. "I can't be attacked by outsiders for dating u AND be attacked by you, the one person I deserve protection from.

"I'm scared of u sometimes and how u snap at me and of how u will react to me. You make me happy 90% of the time and I think we are amazing together but I'm not some other b**** you may know trying to kill your vibe," Steenkamp wrote in another message after Pistorius forced her to leave a friend's engagement party early.

Tacky or tender? Oscar Pistorius posts Valentine's message to victim >>

The messages, sent via WhatsApp, represent only a tiny percentage of the 1709 missives between the couple, according to testimony from police phone expert Captain Francois Moller.

"Ninety percent were normal conversations and loving conversations," he told the court.

Another witness for the prosecution testified that Pistorius' first bullet hit Steenkamp's hip, not her head, lending credence to the testimony of three neighbors who say they heard a woman screaming.
