Paula Patton reportedly closer to Robin Thicke reconciliation

After a series of public attempts by pleading during his concerts to get Paula Patton back, Robin Thicke may be closer at a chance for reconciling with his estranged wife.

Thicke's constant pleas to Patton during his live performances asking her to forgive him may have actually worked. TMZ is reporting that insiders in the know have told them the actress is "open to giving him another chance."

Come again? Robin Thicke reveals his sex secrets >>

Apparently, Thicke and Patton have been in contact the entire time since separating, but the Single Ladies star was very adamant about ending the relationship. However, her tone has now changed and she wants Thicke to show her how he plans to change to make things work between them.

While Patton threatened Thicke with divorce, she never hired a lawyer and she allegedly has no plans to do so, TMZ added. They are positively working things out through regular phone conversations. Ironically, Patton is supposedly not impressed with her husband's concert groveling and onstage professions of love.

What she likes is that Thicke has remained a good father to their 2-year-old son, often making a point to see him whenever he can and calling him while on the road.

Paula Patton liberated from Robin Thicke: Couple separates >>

The longtime couple has been married for about nine years and were high school sweethearts. They have a good friendship and vowed to remain close even if they ended up divorcing.

But things turned ugly after Thicke was seen grabbing another woman's behind after his outrageously raunchy MTV VMAs performance with Miley Cyrus. Rumors claimed that Patton reached a breaking point and told Thicke she had had enough of his womanizing ways.

Thicke profusely apologized and has been begging Patton for forgiveness to the point that it seems it may have worked.

Breastfeeding "tramp" responds to bullying

While nursing in public remains controversial, taking a mom's photo while she breastfeeds her baby, uploading it to Facebook and calling her a "tramp" is upsetting on many levels. A mom from the U.K. experienced this.

Mom bullied for nursing in public

A breastfeeding mom in the U.K. was photographed by an anonymous person, and then the photo was uploaded to a Facebook page where she was labeled a "tramp" for nursing her baby in public. She is now organizing a breastfeeding protest and hopes to educate people on why photographing a nursing mom and uploading it without her permission is simply wrong.

Nursing in public and personal rights

Breastfeeding a baby is an essential act, one that provides not only nutrition, but a special form of nurturing from a mother to her baby. Unfortunately, nursing in public continues to be a controversial option for moms, even though it's a legal one. From being asked to cover up to being ordered to leave public areas, breastfeeding in public — despite its function as a way to feed your child — still has a long way to go to become accepted by many.

However, Emily Slough, a 27-year-old mother of two from Rugeley in Staffordshire, was the victim of a type of bullying that is unfortunately made easier by cell phones, social media and easy access to the internet. Recently, she was sitting down on the steps of a restaurant having lunch while nursing her 8-month-old daughter. Without her knowledge or consent, she was photographed and then submitted to a Facebook page called Spotted Rugeley with the following caption: "I know the sun is out n all that but there's no need to let your kid feast on your nipple in town!!! Tramp."

Slough's reaction is totally understandable, yet her attitude is refreshing. "I was utterly appalled that someone took the time and effort to attempt to shame and humiliate me while I was feeding my daughter," she explains. "However I thank them for bringing attention to how nursing mothers face criticism and non-acceptance. I didn't realize that people felt this way. To me it is a perfectly normal act, it's clear now that something has to be done to educate those opposed to public feeding, and encourage other mothers to do it. I am so saddened to hear from mothers who have been put off breastfeeding altogether by this negative attitude."

Breastfeeding is a normal way to feed Baby

This incident has resonated with many, and Slough is garnering worldwide support — this incident, after all, can happen anywhere. And the premise behind the original action needs to be addressed. "I'm constantly frustrated by adults sexualizing breastfeeding," says Rachelle, owner of the popular Facebook page Unlatched. "Breastfeeding is a normal biological function. Mothers' bodies are able to grow a baby and nourish them, too. Just because breasts can be used sexually, it does not mean breastfeeding is sexual. Adults need to be more mature."

Paala, who also runs a popular blog and Facebook page, feels the same. "Someone in the U.K., a country with one of the lowest breastfeeding rates, thought it was acceptable to post a photo of a mother meeting the needs of her child, calling her a tramp," she says. "The way we treat our mothers says a lot about our values as a society."

The original photo and the Facebook page have since been taken down, but Slough is now organizing a nurse-in in response to the incident. "This is my first experience!" she shares when asked if she considers herself a breastfeeding advocate before now. "I've never had a reason to fight back before, this person gave me one."

Steve Irwin's right-hand man Justin Lyons is speaking for the first time about the day his dear friend died, and revealed the Crocodile Hunter's surprisingly calm last words.

In an interview with Britain's Studio 10, Lyons described how the crew had followed an 8-foot stingray in their inflatable boat for quite some time before Irwin decided he wanted a shot of him swimming up behind the animal. Lyons joined him in the water to film the encounter.

"All of a sudden it propped on its front and started stabbing wildly with its tail, hundreds of strikes in a few seconds," Lyons said, adding that the stingray probably thought Irwin's shadow was that of a tiger shark.

Steve Irwin's daughter victim of death hoax >>

"It wasn't until I panned the camera back [and saw] that Steve was standing in a huge pool of blood that I realized something had gone wrong."

"He had a about a two-inch-wide injury over his heart with blood and fluid coming out of it," Lyons said. "He was in extraordinary pain. [The stingrays] have got venom on their barb, so I'm sure it was excruciatingly painful."

Lyons also said that even if Irwin had medical intervention right away, his injuries were too severe to save him.

"Even if we'd been able to get him into an emergency ward at that moment, we probably wouldn't have been able to save him because the damage to his heart was massive," he said.

"As we're motoring back, I'm screaming at one of the other crew in the boat to put their hand over the wound and we're saying to him things like, 'Think of your kids, Steve. Hang on, hang on, hang on.' He just sort of calmly looked up at me and said, 'I'm dying.' And that was the last thing he said.

"We hoped for a miracle, so I literally did CPR on him for over an hour before we got him to… the medics," Lyons explained, but it was too late. Irwin was pronounced dead at the scene.

While a video of the entire ordeal exists — Irwin had a firm rule that no matter how severe the injury, the crew kept filming — Lyons said he does not know where it is and hopes it is never released.

"I don't know what's happened to it and I hope it would never see the light of day," he said.

Hair trend: Nicole Richie’s new 'do is to "dye" for

$

0

Once upon a time, Nicole Richie photoshopped a picture of herself with purple tresses and uploaded it to Instagram. It wasn’t long before Kelly Osbourne caught wind of the image and egged her on to make it official:

"I'm in loooooove with @nicolerichie even more now I have seen this pic! I dare you to make it permanent so we can match!!!!"

I’m not sure if this was the nudge Nicole needed to fully commit, but big props to Kelly if it was because her new look is absolutely stunning. Soon after, Ireland Baldwin said bye-bye to blond and amped up her look with a vibrant violet that has taken her beauty to a bad ass, rock star-esque level.

This look proves how important (and fun!) it is to push boundaries with your look — not necessarily with purple hair, but with any risky transformation you want to try. There's nothing more liberating than being exactly who you are (and you know, looking hot doing it).

Want to try your hand at lavender locks?

Get the look

You can get this look at home with L'Oreal Professional Hair Chalk, a new line — debuting in the U.S. this month — that comes in vibrant shades like "Garden Party Green" and our favorite, "First Date Violet."

Hair braid with color chalk tutorial

Here's a fun how-to, courtesy of Senior Stylist Caitlyn Young of SalonCapri, Boston:

  1. First, begin with dry hair.
  2. Start by using the L'Oreal Professional Hair Chalk and brush or rub pigment onto hair in 1-inch pieces. Try focusing the color onto the ends of hair for a gentle ombre effect.
  3. Next, comb through your hair to evenly spread the pigment.
  4. Finally, blow-dry pigmented area on a low setting to set the color.
  5. To style, curl your hair using a 2-inch curling iron and set with Kerastase Resistance Double Force Hairspray.
  6. Brush out curls to create a loose wave and braid hair, securing the end with an elastic. Use clear elastics to blend in with your hair and new colors!
  7. Using fingers, gently pull your braid to separate pieces so that the colors show through!

L'Oreal Professional Hair Chalk at-home applications are available at SalonCapri for $24 each and last five to 10 washes, or contact your fave hair salon for availability info.

Sheryl Sandberg encourages girls to ban bossy

$

Have you noticed? Assertiveness is praised in boys, but discouraged in girls — instead of being lauded for their leadership skills, girls are instead discouraged from speaking up. Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook, is aiming to ban the word "bossy" from our vocabulary when it comes to describing girls. Are you up for the challenge?

Inspiring future female leaders

"The word bossy minimizes and dismisses."

According to the Ban Bossy campaign, by the time they reach middle school, girls are less inspired to take on leadership roles — and between elementary and high school, girls' self-esteem drops 3 1/2 times more than does boys'. The word bossy minimizes and dismisses, and it and other similar words can squash ambition. And it's not relegated to the playground, either — women are similarly dismissed in the workplace. The more a girl is told that she is bossy, the less inclined she will be to speak up, raise her hand or give suggestions.

Ban Bossy has established tips for girls, parents, educators, Girl Scout troop leaders and managers to encourage leadership skills for girls and the women they will become. And Sandberg hopes that by putting the message out, we can stop calling girls bossy and instead, we can help them be the leaders society needs. Of course, this directive is not totally without controversy — some feel that we as a society have become too sensitive, and that attempting to ban words is bossy in and of itself. But others feel that if we think about words before we say them, and instead work to find a better way of expressing ourselves, we will uplift girls instead of dismiss them.

Before you chastise your daughter, your niece, your pupil, your co-worker or your friend for being too bossy next time, reflect on what makes you feel like you need to choose this word, and embrace her leadership skills instead. Will you #banbossy?

Britain is betting on another royal wedding

Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas were seen out together over the weekend, leading to more rumors the two will eventually decide to walk down the aisle. But besides just royal-watchers, other are interested in those possibilities.

Prince Harry launches sporting event for injured troops >>

It looks like British gamers are also keeping a very close eye on the couple. According to People, British betting and gaming firm Ladbrokes has customers betting on a possible royal proposal. The odds that Prince Harry will pop the question this year to his on-again, off-again girlfriend are now eight to one.

The odds the couple will actually marry in 2014 are now 20 to one.

"The more Cressida is spotted with Harry, the more [customers] are convinced an engagement is in the cards sooner rather than later," Jessica Bridge, public relations officer of Ladbrokes, told People.

This isn't the first time the lives of the royals have been the focus of gambling. After it was announced that Kate Middleton was pregnant, oddsmakers were placing bets on all kinds of things relating to the future king or queen of England, including the date of birth, gender, name and whether the baby would have been born as twins (there was a rumor out there that Middleton may be pregnant with twins). Even though many guessed that Kate and Wills might have chosen a more modern name, the baby's name, Prince George, was one of the top names guessed by those gambling.

Prince Harry finally listens to the queen! His beard is gone >>

This time, the gamblers are again betting on the lives of those they don't know. But Harry and Cressida have known each other for a long time, and another royal wedding could very well be on its way.

Bieber plays the role of spoiled, bratty teen pop idol perfectly, even winking at the camera at one point and making a hilarious vocabulary error that reveals the inner truth of his current career downslide.

The videos, obtained by TMZ, show an increasingly annoyed and annoying Bieber trying to wiggle out of answering as many of the photographer's lawyer's questions as he can, sometimes more successfully than others.

Elisabeth Moss has made her name on AMC's Mad Men, but it wasn't too long ago that she was a completely different person. In 2008, her life changed forever when her co-star Jon Hamm hosted Saturday Night Live. From that appearance, she met SNL cast member Fred Armisen.

Elisabeth Moss is dying to be a bad girl >>

After a whirlwind romance, the two were married a year later. But after eight months of marriage, the couple separated in June 2010 (the divorce was finalized in May 2011). Moss is finally opening up about that marriage, and appears to regret every moment of it.

"Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn't think that I was that young," Moss told New York Magazine. "It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible."

However, the actress said it could have been much, much worse, like if the couple hadn't realized they weren't meant for each other as soon as they did.

"At the same time, it turned out for the best," she said. "I'm glad that I'm not there. I'm glad that it didn't happen when I was 50. I'm glad I didn't have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. Like, that's probably not going to happen again."

They were in what?! Emmy nominees' past roles >>

Armisen apparently agrees with Moss, calling himself a "terrible husband" on Howard Stern's show, and Moss agreed with the statement in the interview.

Moss is now a big star, and is looking forward to her future. She will return to the set of Mad Men to film the final episodes, which will air in 2015. The first half of the final season of Mad Men will premiere on April 13. Armisen recently left SNL, and currently stars in Portlandia.

Is your toilet leaking money?

Toilet

Save money on your water bill

Older toilet models and leaking toilets are not only unsightly, they're also huge causes of wasted water. This can have a serious impact on your water bill. Learn how to improve your efficiency and save money.

Unless you take steps to upgrade the toilets in your home, you're wasting water with every trip to the bathroom. This has an impact on the environment as well as your wallet. Learn how to save money on your water bill by managing the toilets in your home.

What's with all the water?

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), toilets make up about 30 percent of an average home's indoor water use. That's a lot of water for one quick flush. If your toilet has a leak, it could be contributing to even more usage. Here's a scary statistic from the EPA: 10 percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more every single day. Is your home one of them?

How do you fix a toilet leak?

While some leaks require the help of a professional, there are steps you can take at home to fix basic leaks. First, see if the flapper is the issue. The EPA recommends adding a drop of food coloring to the toilet bowl tank. If the coloring shows up in the bowl before you've flushed, you've got a leak. Make sure you flush within 20 minutes to avoid staining. Clean the valve in the tank and the area around it carefully. Replace the flapper valve if it shows signs of wear and tear or mineral deposits. If your toilet runs or you find you need to flush more than once to clear the bowl, call your plumber.

When is it time to replace a toilet?

If you have an older model toilet, every single flush is wasting water. The thought of replacing your toilet might make you wince, but in the long run you'll be saving money. In many areas of the U.S., rebates are offered to offset the cost of purchasing a new, efficient toilet. Check to see if a rebate is available where you live. Even if you foot the bill yourself, the toilet should pay for itself in a few years by saving you money on your water bill.

What kind of toilet should you look for?

WaterSense seal

Toilets that reduce water waste are labeled with a WaterSense seal, which means the fixture meets government standards of efficiency. While you're upgrading your bathroom, look into sink, bath and shower fixtures with the WaterSense label. Remember, even if your toilet isn't leaking, it's using more water than necessary if it isn't an efficient model. As you and your family focus on lowering your water bill, consider measures such as not flushing when the toilet only contains urine. It might not be a practice you want to adopt when guests are over, but between you and your family, it's a small step to take to conserve water.

Jonathan Scott's checklist for avoiding renovation rip-offs

Know when to DIY… or not

So, you see your favorite home blogger do a full DIY bathroom renovation in one week and think, "How hard can that really be?" Before you start wielding the hammer, smashing up tiles and ugly faux marble vanities like you're starring in your own version of Thor, reconsider if you really have the mad skills to make it work.

"We see a lot of DIY issues; that's what I fix the most," Scott admits.

Just because Sherry and John, the dynamic DIY duo behind the renovation blog Young House Love, can renovate their own bathrooms doesn't mean you should.

Know when to hire the pros.

2

Contractors are not designers

The second biggest problem Scott sees? "I find that contractors, for the most part, are usually not designers. So they'll try to make design decisions that maybe aren't the best for you."

Scott went to school for both construction and design, but not all contractors have a similar background.

If design isn't your forte and you need help creating the look you want for your space, either make sure the contractor has some design experience or consult a designer, too.

3

Research before you hire

One of the most important things you can do to avoid being ripped off is to thoroughly research your contractor before hiring him or her for the job.

It might be tempting to hire the dude you met at a home improvement store who promises he can renovate your bathroom for only $100, but it's important to research who you're hiring.

"Make sure that you're working with a contractor who is doing this as a career, and not just a one-off job, because if you ever have to have warranty work done, or you need to go back to them in the future, you want them to be around," Scott recommends.

"Look for contractors who set themselves up like a business; they have professional affiliations with the Better Business Bureau, and with maybe a home builders organization."

It's also important to make sure they are licensed, Scott says. "But understand that the city does not check to see that they're any good. All the city does is check to see that they don't have any lawsuits against them, and that they're bonded."

Before you bust out that checkbook, make sure the contractor meets the above criteria. "If a contractor is going to ask for money up front from you, they have to be bonded, or they have to be affiliated with the home builders organization," Scott warns. "They can't just ask for 100 grand up front if they're not bonded."

For more advice on how to find a contractor, check out Scott's Facebook page. He has a photo album titled "Scott Logic" where he shares his tips, titled "Who's Your Contractor," along with other helpful hints.

4

Get a contractor who's schooled

It's important to hire a contractor who's up to date on all the latest products and technology, otherwise you might end up with kitchen trends that were hip two decades ago. "If you're working with this contractor who has been doing this for 30 years, but has never stepped back inside a classroom, building science has changed, building technology has changed, and you need to be keeping up on all of that stuff," Scott explains. He frequently sees contractors who are unaware of new products that are on the market.

5

Pick appropriate products for your lifestyle

Your Pinterest "Dream Home" board might be filled with drool-worthy Carrara marble counter tops and glossy hardwood floors, but it's best to only pick products that are conducive to your lifestyle.

For example, Scott says if a family has a bunch of kids and big dogs and goes all out splurging on a new hardwood floor, "You know that floor is going to get trashed in a matter of a year or two."

He recommends researching products to find the best match for your space and lifestyle.

"Some of the engineered products will stand up a little bit better than solid wood," which Scott says might be a better match for families with kids and pets.

"There are laminate products that are basically indestructible — they're impervious to water, they don't scratch like hardwood, and are much denser than any species of hardwood — and you won't end up having to replace it before you sell the house. And if for some reason you, down the road, want to replace it, laminate is less expensive anyway."

Miley Cyrus's fan gets arrested after he snuck in to her dressing room

If you're a massive Miley Cyrus fan and you desperately want to meet her, please heed this as your warning — do not sneak into her dressing room!

The twerker may be making headlines for all the wrong reasons and causing a stir with her bizarre antics. However, she has proven to the world that she still has a legion of loyal fans who will do just about anything to meet her — even if it means slipping past security and sneaking into the "Wrecking Ball" hit maker's dressing room.

According to Entertainment Wise, this is what one obsessed fan named Tucker Salvesen did the day before Cyrus' Bangerz concert took place at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska, last week!

Salvesen was so excited for the opportunity to meet Cyrus that he snuck into her dressing room and left her a heartfelt note.

The note apparently reads, "I snuck back here I need to meet you. You have helped me so much your music has given me all the answers I was looking for when my heart got broke ... we went through the same thing @ the same time ... Miley I love you!!! Please let me meet you."

Although, in this case, it is really his own fault that he got caught because Salvesen was so proud of his behavior that he took to Twitter to share what he had done!

Clearly thinking he'd done nothing wrong, Salvesen took a picture of Cyrus' dressing room and posted it on her Twitter page to let her know she had a little surprise inside. He captioned the picture, "I snuck into your dressing room today in Omaha, there's a note in there for you."

However, instead of meeting his favorite pop star, Salvesen was left heartbroken, arrested and banned from the concert. According to Omaha TV station KETV, police spotted the 18-year-old when he turned up for the concert the next evening and arrested him before he was able to enjoy the show.

It just goes to show that no good comes from sneaking into your idol's dressing room uninvited!

Certainly, one of the most beautiful and positive things Lucas can take from his marriage is his 20-month-old son, Noah Rev Mauer, and fatherhood has changed the actor's life for the better. He revealed to People, "My becoming a father has changed absolutely everything in my life, period."
