Tonight's Dinner: Orange and soy-glazed ribs recipe

$

Ribs on the barbecue are a delicious summertime treat. But just because the weather's turned chilly doesn't mean you still can't enjoy this wonderful dinner.

Orange and soy-glazed ribs

Ribs are one of those great dinner options when you can invite a few friends over and have a cookout on the grill. But when the weather turns cold, who wants to stand over a grill, freezing their fingers off cooking any kind of meat? I certainly don't. Luckily Bon Appetit doesn't want me to go hungry. So, they suggested cooking the ribs on the stove in a large pot. They may not have the charred flavor that comes from the grill, but they were just as scrumptious and the orange juice glaze makes them a perfect choice for those cold fall or winter nights.

Orange and soy-glazed ribs

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 3-1/2 pounds baby back ribs
  • 1 cup soy sauce, divided
  • 10 garlic cloves, minced, divided
  • 5 teaspoons cumin, divided
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 6 scallions, chopped
  • 1-1/2 cups orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons honey

Directions:

  1. Place the ribs, a half cup of soy sauce, two teaspoons of cumin and five minced garlic cloves into a large pot over high heat. Add water to the pot until the ribs are covered completely. Bring the liquid to a boil and reduce the heat immediately to low. Cover and cook until the ribs are tender and cooked all the way through, about two hours.
  2. While the ribs cook, heat the oil in a small pan over medium-high heat. Add the remaining cumin, garlic cloves and scallions and cook until tender, about two minutes. Stir in the remaining soy sauce, orange juice and honey. Bring the sauce to a boil and cook until thick, about 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat the broiler. Line a baking sheet with tin foil. Place the cooked ribs on the prepared baking sheet and brush with the soy/orange sauce. Broil the ribs for two minutes. Turn the ribs over and brush with the remaining sauce. Broil for another two minutes. Transfer the ribs to a platter and serve immediately.

Arrow sneak peek: His deadliest enemy yet

On this week's episode, Arrow faces a new enemy: Deadshot. Known for being the deadliest mercenary in the world, Deadshot is not one to be reckoned with.

Arrow on the salmon ladder

The CW's awesome new superhero hit is back with a brand-new episode. You know you're stoked.

Arrow is loosely based on the some of DC Comic's characters. Making an appearance in this week's episode alongside Arrow is Deadshot .

Deadshot is a bada** cyborg-esque sniper who never misses. Or, as The CW likes to call him, "the world's greatest assassin." What's he doing on Arrow? Well, he's hunting Arrow's alternate personality, Oliver, of course.

Actually, Deadshot starts out by sniping someone else and taking the person down.

Arrow, now in the midst of his personal war on crime, can't have any of that, though. To take down Deadshot, he has to draw him out. To do that, he has to make him mad enough to come after him. But, is upsetting a guy who always hits his target really the smartest move Oliver can make?

The CW just ordered the entire season, so obviously Arrow will survive. But, at what cost?

Hooded ArrowArrow may be based on DC Comic's characters, but The CW's version has a story and a spin all its own. Arrow is the alter-ego of billionaire, Oliver Queen. After getting shipwrecked and spending five years on a desolate island, Oliver was rescued and returned home.

A lot can happen in five years of solitude. It does things to a man. It changes his way of thinking and teaches him how to properly utilize a salmon ladder. Also, it makes him sexy. I mean, super sexy. Even with a hood over his head.

Like anything The CW does, Arrow is full of drama and skin. Not that anyone is complaining. Not even the nerds.

Trick out your nails

Just in time for Halloween, we've rounded up some frighteningly cool nail designs that you can do at home! Whether you like stick on nail appliqués or traditional polishes, we have everything you need to trick out your nails by October 31!

Jack-o'-lanterns

Want to give your nails a spooky, illuminated look? Then try this fun mani!

To recreate this look, you will need:

  • Basecoat and topcoat of choice
  • Black creme polish
  • Sheer iridescent glitter topcoat
  • White creme polish
  • Light orange-yellow creme polish
  • Medium orange creme polish

Instructions:

  1. Apply your basecoat and let dry.
  2. Paint all of your nails with your black creme polish.
  3. Paint one coat of your sheer glitter topcoat over your base color.
  4. Using your white creme polish and your detail brush, freehand two large triangles near the base of your nail, leaving a small space in between them. These will serve as the eyes. Directly below that, add an upside down triangle for the nose and a wide smile for the mouth.
  5. Fill in all of the white areas with your light yellow-orange polish.
  6. Using your black creme and your detail brush, go back and start with the smaller details. First, at the base of both of your large triangles, draw a small triangle. Next, at the top of the smile, freehand two small squares with your black polish. Make sure they're not too close together. Then make another at the bottom of the smile.
  7. Since we covered up some of our glitter throughout the detailing process, use your detail brush and your sheer glitter polish to fill in any black spaces that are without glitter.
  8. To give the Jack-o'-lantern a lit-from-within look, take your detail brush and your medium orange polish and outline the details on the face.
  9. After allowing your design to dry completely, add a layer of your favorite topcoat. This will make your new mani last longer. It will smooth out any bumps and ridges that have been created during the process and will also give your nails a nice shine.

Graphic eyeball nail design

Graphic eyeballs

If you're looking for a manicure that's a little more sci-fi, then this one's for you!

To recreate this nail design, you will need:

  • Basecoat and topcoat of choice
  • Burgundy polish for the base
  • White polish with a round brush
  • Red jelly polish or similar sheer polish
  • Polishes for eye colors
  • Black polish
  • A small nail art brush
  • A large dotting tool, a small dotting tool and a tiny dotting tool
  • Cleanup tools: a makeup brush or Q-Tip, acetone or remover

Instructions:

  1. Apply your basecoat to your nails. Let it dry.
  2. Add big white dots to the nail by dotting them on using the polish's brush. If the polish you are using has a flat brush like OPI's, you may want to apply your white with a large dotting tool or nail art brush. The dots look best if you apply them so that there are white dots partially off the sides of the nail, to keep the pattern looking infinite.
  3. Using a small nail art brush, paint on some eyeball veins with your red polish. The sheer-factor of the polish keeps the red from being too distracting.
  4. Use the large end of your dotting tool to apply dots of your first eye color in the middle of the white dots.
  5. Repeat step four with your second and third eye color.
  6. Use the small end of your dotting tool to apply the black pupils of the eyeballs in the middle of the colored dots. Use a light touch when applying so the black doesn't spread too wide and cover your colors.
  7. Use a tiny dotting tool or a toothpick to apply the white highlights to the eyes . Don't center them in the black. Instead, place them at the top right of the black and colored dots.
  8. Clean up the extra polish on your fingers and cuticles. Let your nails dry for a bit, and apply your topcoat of choice to seal and protect the look.

This, and other awesome nail designs, can be found over at Chalkboard nails. She also has made a great diagram to seamlessly take you through this look from start to finish.

Getting gorgeous doesn’t have to take hours. We know it can, but really, who has time to pile on makeup when there’s coffee to drink, outfits to put together and things to get done? Save time and look fab in a snap with these tricks.
Pretty woman getting ready

Getting gorgeous doesn’t have to take hours. We know it can, but really, who has time to pile on makeup when there’s coffee to drink, outfits to put together and things to get done? Save time and look fab in a snap with these tricks.

Get gorgeous now

1

Drink more water

glass of water

Are you getting enough H2O? If not, your skin could look dull and sallow. The remedy is simple: Drink more water. Keep a reusable bottle at your desk so you remember to sip regularly, and trade one of your daily coffees or sodas for herbal tea. Remember, if you feel thirsty, you’re likely already dehydrated.

2

Add some shimmer

Adding a touch of shimmer to the inner corners of your eyes, cheekbones and brow bone can do wonders to give you a quick beauty boost. The slight shimmer has an almost-optical illusion effect that helps hide the stress of the day.

3

Refresh with a spritz

Refresh your makeup or just wake up your skin in an instant with a mist of spray toner. They come in a wide variety of formulations, so choose the one that offers the beauty benefits you want . A little spritz can go a long way in breathing new life into your makeup.

4

Get more sleep

pillow

We know, it’s easier said than done, but if you feel tired you likely look tired, too. Aim to get to bed 30 minutes earlier each night , and avoid doing anything stressful before you hit the sack. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing — it’s restorative to your whole body and being well-rested means a much healthier complexion.

5

De-puff

First Aid Beauty Detox Eye Roller

Stash an eye roller in your purse or desk to instantly de-puff and refresh your peepers. These products are also cooling, which will help you look more alert. We like First Aid Beauty Detox Eye Roller , which smoothes and brightens the eye area, while minimizing dark circles.

6

Improve your posture

Your mother was right when she told you not to slouch. By standing up straight you’ll not only look more confident, your clothes will hang better and your circulation will be improved, meaning an all-over body and face improvement.

7

Open up your eyes

Mascara is a girl’s best friend when it comes to looking better in a snap. Seriously, if every other product was taken from our makeup bag, we’d survive with only mascara to enhance our look. Curl your lashes to further lengthen them and do a double coat of mascara to really make your eyes pop.

8

Put on some lipstick

Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain

Feeling a bit blah? Fix it fast with a swipe of your favorite lipstick. We suggest red for a mega-watt beauty boost, but if that’s a bit outside your comfort zone, choose a more pinkish hue. We’re partial to Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain in Fox Trot, a deep berry-inspired pink.

October is Down syndrome Awareness Month!

October is Down syndrome Awareness Month, and here’s a homegrown written-by-mommies list of Down syndrome myths and facts. You might not find these in a textbook, but you will find real parents debunking these myths over coffee, margaritas and occasionally, some tears.

Myth: Being like Gumby is cool!

Fact: “While it is adorable that [my daughter] can put her feet behind her ears or sleep folded in half, it's actually not a good thing,” shares Larina P., a North Carolina mom of a 4-year-old daughter with Ds. Children with Down syndrome have an increased flexibility that is the result of low muscle tone. Low tone can create a laundry list of health and mobility issues, affecting everything from speech to walking.

Myth: Those children are so sweet!

Fact: All children, including those with Down syndrome, experience all emotions, from temper tantrums to joyous outbursts, and from moments of charm and manipulation to flat-out stubbornness. Children with Down syndrome and “typical” children truly are more alike than different.

“Children can feed off the energy of others, so if you are reacting to a child positively, then you will most likely get happiness back,” says Tamara I., a North Carolina mom of a 4-year-old boy with Ds.

Myth: You're so strong! Your child is so lucky!

Fact: “This isn’t always true and creates a pressure in the public arena to hide struggles and frustrations as a special needs parent,” says Corey C., a North Carolina mom to a 6-year-old daughter with Ds. “We're not always strong, knowledgeable, patient or at the ready. We are scared, struggling and working 'round the clock.

“Is she lucky to have me? When I am being a prepared, patient, fun Mom — yes. When I am a late getting out the door, impatient, easily irritated Mom — no. [But] I'm trying. Just like every other parent in the world.”

Myth: There are "levels" of Down syndrome

Fact: There's no "mild" or "moderate" Down syndrome. "You either have it or you don't!," emphasizes Ashley W., a North Carolina mom to a 7-year-old boy with Ds. "However, all [children with Down syndrome] have different strengths and weaknesses and develop at their own rate just like typical children do!"

What can vary, however, is the extent of an individual's cognitive delay. Most people with Down syndrome have mild to moderate cognitive delays, but no test exists to know just how mild a delay will be until it presents itself.

New baby makes 5 for Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer

Leah Messer is about to become a mom again. The Teen Mom 2 star confirmed that she's pregnant with baby No. 3.

Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer pregnant again

Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer might only be 20, but she's been married twice — and now she's about to be a mom times three. The Kentucky native is set to welcome a third child with husband Jeremy Calvert, she confirmed Tuesday.

"Jeremy and I are excited to be adding a new addition to our family," Messer told US Weekly. "Being a teen mom was difficult, but I'm older and in a different place now — married to Jeremy and excited for our family to grow."

Messer found fame on the hit MTV show when she was pregnant with twins Ali and Aleeah. She later married the girls' father, Corey Simms, but married life turned out to be a big challenge. Their struggles — documented on the show — ultimately led to their divorce in 2011 after six months of marriage.

She met Calvert soon after the marriage imploded. Rumors of a new pregnancy emerged almost immediately, though Calvert later confirmed she had a miscarriage in January 2012.

"It's a devastating experience, but all I can do is support Leah and take things day by day," Calvert told OK! Magazine. "It's hard, but we will get through it."

They married in April 2012 in a small ceremony in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. Now, the 20-year-old is in a happier place now and ready to be a mom again.

"Ali and Aleeah can't wait to meet their new brother or sister," she added. "We feel incredibly blessed and look forward to this next chapter in our lives."

We'll see her again on Teen Mom 2 soon. The show — featuring Messer along with Chelsea Houska, Kailyn Lowry, and perpetual trainwreck Jenelle Evans — will premiere on Nov. 12.

OK, so Sofia Vergara is not actually pregnant in real life, but her character Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on Modern Family sure is! The actress was spotted on set looking very chic with her faux baby bump and wearing A Pea in the Pod Houndstooth Faux Wrap Maternity Dress .

Vergara, 40, told Katie Couric that she is actually not looking forward to filming the show once her character has a baby. ”It’s going to change for me, because then, actually my hours of shooting with Ed and Rico [Rodriguez], they’re very fast, because we come prepared,” Vergara said. ”We do it fast; Ed is very professional, and Rico too, he’s like an adult. And now, with a baby, it’s going to be double because they cry, and then, ’Bring the other one, bring the new one, the diaper’ — so we’re dreading it.”

What about a baby in real life? Vergara already has a 22-year-old son, but just got engaged so perhaps another child is in her future?

“Maybe next year I could think about it,” she told Katie.

If you are like many people, this time of year can bring on seasonal allergies. Symptoms like watery eyes, a puffy face and a red nose can make you feel less than pretty, if at all presentable.

Feel pretty as
you say achoo!

According to the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America, approximately 40 percent of female allergy sufferers say their red and puffy eyes make them look tired and unattractive. To feel your best while battling allergies, try these simple but effective beauty tips:

pill bottleFind the right allergy medicine

Consult with your doctor or allergist to find a medication that works for you. There are so many over-the-counter options such as Zyrtec and Claritin  that work well to control symptoms. If your allergies are really bad, your doctor might even recommend immunology .

glass of waterSpike your water

Allergies can cause a puffy face and eyes, so first thing in the morning, take ice cubes and rub them under your eyes and around your face to reduce the “swelling.” The rest of the day, be sure to sip on at least eight glasses of water or more. Rebekah George, a beauty expert working with Zyrtec to help women combat “Allergy Face™” recommends adding lemons or cucumbers to the water to not only improve the taste, but to help flush out your system and reduce bloating.

SJosie Maran’s Bear Naked Wipestart with clean, fresh makeup and brushes

Old makeup and makeup bags can harbor allergens and germs. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes on a regular basis. The most convenient way is to keep cleaning wipes on hand such as Josie Maran’s Bear Naked Wipes . You should also make sure to toss any old makeup — mascara after two to three months, foundation after six months and lipstick, blush and eyeshadow after one year.

aquaphorRed, raw nose

Camouflage a red nose by using a green-based concealer under your foundation or BB cream. One to try is the Conceal Rx Physician Strength Concealer in Soft Green from Physicians Formula . If your nose is extra chapped, apply a dab of a healing ointment like Aquaphor to soothe the skin.

Boscia Super Cool Depuffing Eye BalmWatery, red eyes

To make your eyes seem brighter and more vibrant, apply a cooling eye balm such as Boscia Super Cool Depuffing Eye Balm . Follow this with a light diffusing concealer to mask the dark circles that come with bad allergies. Make the whites of your eyes seem brighter by applying navy blue eyeliner and mascara instead of black or brown. During allergy season, your makeup should be kept to a minimum, because heavy makeup can actually accentuate symptoms or even aggravate your allergies.

Chasing the Dream: How far have you come?

It’s natural to focus in on the minutia of daily life. But in doing so, we miss out on the big picture. For instance, if you are so busy focusing on the daily challenges of working at home with kids, you might miss a big professional win. It’s time to take a closer look.

It’s natural to focus in on the minutia of daily life. But in doing so, we miss out on the big picture.

Recognizing your growth

If you are so busy focusing on the daily challenges of working at home with kids, you might miss a big professional win. It’s time to take a closer look.

A few weeks ago, I was chatting with a friend and said something about 2012 being a particularly rough year for my career. I said it without thinking, and her response made me rethink my words . Has 2012 really been that bad?

Honestly, no. In fact, the overall trend of this year was upward and onward. Yes, I started 2012 out with a colossal parting of ways with a valued client. But I survived and thrived, weathering budget cuts, picking up more work and getting some important notice by some great publications.

While 2012 wasn't the walking-on-air year I would have liked it to be, it was still a good year. And really, I have come so far personally and professionally.

Evaluating where we are

It's so easy to write off the good things that happen and get caught up in the little hurts and fails. But doing so is a disservice to ourselves and missing out on a chance to honor accomplishments — and teach our kids to do the same.

Take a step back and make a list of all the good things you've accomplished and achieved — whether it's over the last month, few months or year. Then think about it in context — how did the good relate to the bad? Are you better off now?

Also, make celebrating accomplishments a regular part of your life going forward. You could do this by sharing them at family meals or creating family goal charts, says Erin Baebler, a coach who works with women to explore their potential and move through transitions. Even small ones are worth recognizing.

"It really is all about creating habits for yourself and also recognizing that it's worth the time it takes to stop and commend yourself. Think how great our kids feel when we give them a compliment about something they've worked hard on. We deserve to give ourselves the same recognition," says Baebler.

Ellie Hirsch of Mommy Masters, a resource for parents who want to create a flourishing family environment, says that women should recognize their accomplishments and use them as motivation. "As we complete something important to us, use that positive feeling as an inspiration to achieve even more," says Hirsch.

Celebrating success

When you do something great, Hirsch says that moms should reward themselves — just as they would their children. "Whether you have crossed off an item on your ever-growing to-do list, landed a big account at work, taught your child how to potty train, or are following your dreams, don't downplay your success and instead, celebrate each and every accomplishment," says Hirsch.

A few ideas for rewarding your good news? Hirsch suggests a manicure, a special lunch or a girl's night out. "It's important to give yourself a pat on the back once in a while... you deserve it," says Hirsch.

Oprah showed up backstage at Bieber's Illinois show to talk about his life since he was first on her show two years ago. The interview will air next month.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber's fans got a little competition this week as a hot woman showed up backstage at one of his concerts and took most of his attention. Oprah Winfrey posted a photo with the singer on her Facebook page today, officially announcing his appearance on the Nov. 25 episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter on OWN. Beliebers just may learn things they never knew about the singer.

"Have you ever wondered how that lucky girl Bieber invites onstage for his 'One Less Lonely Girl' performance gets chosen?" asked MTV. "Oprah's got the scoop."

Winfrey met up with Bieber at his show in Rosemount, Illinois, and then again on Oct. 24 at Oprah's restaurant in Chicago for what her show called "one of the most in-depth interviews the singer has ever agreed to do," according to MTV.

Winfrey is pretty good at getting stars to open up, so chances are fans will be learning more about Bieber's private life, including his girlfriend Selena Gomez. The singer has come a long way since he first met with the talk show host in 2010. At the time, he was just starting out in the music business and navigating the world of being a teen idol.

"It's been pretty crazy coming from a little town in Canada and now being able to travel the world and do what I love," he told her at the time. He's come a long way since then, and his fans will get a chance to see the new Justin Bieber on the episode coming up in November.

Oprah's show is fairly new and so far has welcomed guests such as the Kardashians, Steven Tyler, 50 Cent and Whitney Houston's family. The episode will first air on OWN on Sunday, Nov. 25, and then re-air the next day on TLC, Home & Health and Real Time.

Ashley Greene breakupAshley Greene is making news this week, but it isn't for her turn in the final The Twilight Saga movie — it's for her love life. The 25-year-old actress quietly broke up with her Broadway star boyfriend, Reeve Carney, after 10 months of dating.

Greene recently alluded to her dating status in the November issue of Marie Claire magazine, revealing, "I've gotten very good at detaching whenever I have to go away for three months, which I realize is hard on friends and kind of selfish."

She and the Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark star first played coy with their relationship in late 2011, telling people that they were just friends. However, by the holiday season, the couple were seen all over New York City, from the Rockefeller Center tree-lighting ceremony to dining at Virgil's Real BBQ in Times Square near Carney's place of work.

It appears that the heavy schedule for the upcoming press tour to promote The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 and the actor's Broadway career demanded too much time away from the relationship. Sources told US Weekly that "she knows this is a pivotal time in her career. I wouldn't say I could never see them getting back together but right now they are doing their own thing."

When Carney is not performing as Peter Parker/Spiderman on the Great White Way, he is often seen playing with his band, Carney. His song "New For You" will also be featured on the soundtrack his ex-girlfriend's upcoming movie.

After the Breaking Dawn release, Greene will be seen in CBGB in 2013, based on the legendary NYC punk club. It also stars Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint and Alan Rickman.

Once Upon a Time is getting into the Halloween spirit. Next week's episode is inspired by one of horror's most iconic stories. It will also reveal some much needed info on Storybrooke's shady Dr. Whale.

David Anders in Once Upon a Time

Who is Dr. Whale ? That's what fans of ABC's Once Upon a Time have been trying to figure out. During Season 1, most of the characters were shown in both Storybrooke and Fairy Tale Land.

We saw them both in the present day and in flashbacks as their alter egos. But Whale's identity is still unknown. This Sunday, Once Upon a Time will shine a light on the mysterious character in "The Doctor."

Once Upon a Time: Emma faces the elephant in the room >>

The episode will serve as a vehicle for both Whale and Regina , who share a sordid past. In keeping with the Halloween theme, there's a horror twist.

In her past life, Regina was in love with a stable boy named Daniel . He was killed by her wicked mother Cora , which set her on the path of destruction. So where does the good doctor come in? It turns out Whale got possession of Daniel's body and brought him back to life.

Clip: Once Upon a Time's Hook wrestles with Rumple >>

Whale took his corpse, stole one of Regina's hearts and went to work. During the clip, there's a moment when she confronts him about Daniel's whereabouts and Whale exclaims, "I brought him back, but he's not Daniel. He's a monster." Cue the thunder and lightning!

Is his identity coming together yet? It sounds like they've taken a page out of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. All the pieces fit. Watch the clip for yourself and see if you agree with our theory.

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8/7c on ABC.

Do you think Dr. Whale is really Dr. Frankenstein?

Arrest warrant issued for America's Next Top Model judge

The model was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, because he is a former boxer. What does this mean for his future on the show?

Rob Evans

A new addition to the judging team at America’s Next Top Model is in trouble with the law. British model Rob Evans was reportedly involved in a battery case back in March, and the Beverly Hills Police Department has confirmed that a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

"Police say that Evans, who is wanted in connection with an incident that allegedly went down in March, had been in touch but has since ceased communicating with them and they are 'actively' looking for him," said E!

Initial reports had said the police department may have dispatched a special team of fugitive hunters, but new information has confirmed that is not true.

According to TMZ, Evans "is accused of beating the other guy up so bad, the victim ended up in the hospital with serious injuries. We're told Rob's boxer past is part of the reason he's wanted for felony assault with a deadly weapon."

The model has been linked to Tyra Banks in the past, but both have denied a relationship. America’s Next Top Model recently announced it would be filming a co-ed season. Banks had originally wanted all males but settled for having both genders. And Evans showed some of his thoughts on women when he talked about the change to the show.

"I think it's cool they switched it to females and males because if it was all males, they aren't as b–––y as the women," he told People. "So it wouldn't be good TV." He added, "There is only so much you can get out of [a] male model."

Evans was initially let go after the arrest because he was cooperating, but police said they issued the new warrant when he failed to stay in contact with them. His bail on the arrest warrant has been set at $150,000.

Eva Longoria and Mark Sanchez are both back on the market

What seemed like an odd couple may have been just too odd. Sanchez said Longoria is too involved in her career to want to do what 25-year-olds do. Makes sense, since she is obviously in a different place in her life.

Eva Longoria

It's only been a month since Eva Longoria finally confirmed she was dating Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, but it looks like the relationship is already over. Sanchez confirmed the news to Us Weekly.

"Mark adores and respects Eva," a rep for Sanchez told the magazine. "It really was about scheduling more than anything else. They will remain close friends."

Longoria has been busy lately working on President Obama's re-election campaign as well as her own career. It makes sense that the 25-year-old is in a different place in his life than the 37-year old actress.

"He likes to go out and have fun," a source told the Los Angeles Times. "She's more focused on her career and her philanthropic work."

Back in September, Mario Lopez of Extra asked the actress about the rumored relationship, which she had managed to avoid talking about publicly before then.

"Mark and I are, you know, fine. We're happy — just dating," she told Lopez. The couple had been rumored to be dating for months before she confirmed the relationship.

Longoria split from husband Tony Parker only a year ago, but she has been keeping busy since then. According to the LA Times, before dating Sanchez she was linked to Eduardo Cruz, brother of Penelope Cruz. Sanchez has been linked to Jamie Lynn-Sigler and Kate Upton.

With the breakup, both Longoria and Sanchez will go back on their respective most eligible bachelor/bachelorette lists. There is a good chance that both stars will have no problem meeting someone new — and most likely someone more similar to themselves. And Longoria will have more time on her hands after the election is over. She is currently a co-chair of the president's re-election committee and will be out of that job after election day on Nov. 6, no matter who wins.

The rapper and music mogul's busy schedule was briefly interrupted today when a car he was in got smashed into in Los Angeles. Diddy refused treatment, but witnesses say he looked injured.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs

Sean "Diddy" Combs was involved in a car crash Wednesday in Los Angeles, but he was not hospitalized. He was reportedly a passenger in an SUV that was hit by another car near the Beverly Hills Hotel.

"Beverly Hills police Lt. Lincoln Hoshino said Combs was riding in a Cadillac Escalade on Sunset Boulevard when a Lexus sedan turned left in front of it, and the vehicles collided," said the Associated Press. "Hoshino says Combs complained of pain, but said he would seek his own medical attention. No one from either vehicle was hospitalized."

Lt. Hoshino told the LA Times that the accident was reported around 1 p.m. on Wednesday near Sunset Boulevard and Crescent Drive.

TMZ posted a photo of the SUV after the crash, and it looked pretty smashed up. TMZ also reported that the music mogul had to lie down in the grass following the incident. The drivers of his vehicle and the other vehicle also complained of pain.

"A phone message left for Combs' publicist was not immediately returned, and Combs made no mention of the crash on his often-updated Twitter account," said the Associated Press.

Besides getting run into by cars, Combs has been staying busy as usual. He was recently honored by the National Action Network, Rev. Al Sharpton's organization.

"When you get an award of this magnitude by such a prestigious organization you ask yourself, 'are you truly worthy of this award?' And for me, I had to be honest with myself," Combs said, according to the Huffington Post. "I had to honestly look at those have come before me and the responsibility that they've taken on... we were able to do it just through the hip-hip spirit and the hip-hop culture."

He ended his speech by comparing Rev. Sharpton to the likes of "Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Quincy Jones [and] Clarence Avon."

Michelle Williams and Jason Segel cohabitate

It looks like Jason Segel has made a huge impact on the very reserved Michelle Williams as the two take a big step in their relationship.

Michelle Williams Jason Segel move in together

The ultra-private Michelle Williams has taken a big step in her relationship with actor Jason Segel by moving in with him in her beloved Brooklyn. The actress and her daughter, Matilda, from her relationship with the late Heath Ledger, are renting an apartment while Segel commutes to the Los Angeles set of the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother.

Michelle and Matilda had been living in a Boerum Hill brownstone that she purchased in 2005 with Ledger while they were still dating. Now, according to the Mail Online, she has moved to a waterfront apartment "in a stunning converted warehouse behind gates" with a panoramic look at the Big Apple.

This is also significant because it appears the Oscar-nominated actress has truly put the loss of Ledger behind her. In a moving interview with Cynthia McFadden on ABC's Nightline back in December 2010, Williams revealed that with her ex's untimely passing, "all those possibilites that existed then are gone. It didn't seem unlikely to me that he could walk through a door or could appear from behind a bush. It was a year of very magical thinking, and in some ways I'm sad to be moving further and further away from it."

Williams and Segel have been dating since the beginning of the year after being introduced by her best friend and former Dawson's Creek co-star Busy Philipps. Philipps formerly starred on short-lived Freaks and Geeks with The Muppets actor.

The relationship began to heat up over the summer as the duo and Williams' 7-year-old daughter were spotted all over the city enjoying family activities. Now, it seems that they are forming their own family unit. As a source told the Mail Online, "They've been here a few months now and they look right at home."

Williams will next be seen as Glinda in the highly anticipated adaptation of Oz:  The Great and Powerful, coming in 2013, while Segel will be in Judd Apatow's This Is 40 which hits the big screen on Dec. 21.

10 Ways to soothe yourself without food

How many times have you found yourself at the bottom of a pint of Peanut Butter Cup Ben & Jerry’s after a bad day? Though every spoonful may have tasted sweet and creamy, did consuming the nearly 1,400 calories really make your day better? Emotional eating is especially rampant during the stressful holiday season, but women go on emotionally charged binges year-round. Susan Albers, Psy.D., author of 50 Ways to Soothe Yourself Without Food, has 10 calorie-free ways to cope with stress.

Sad woman eating chips

Why do women turn to food for comfort?

Whether you grew up with a mom who gave you a cookie every time you got hurt or you developed a must-eat reflex out of loneliness, emotional eating is an automatic response to stress for many women. Albers says emotional eating is like a knee-jerk reaction that has developed due to repetition. "In other words, we've done it enough times to know it works quickly to calm and comfort ourselves," she explains. "If this sounds like you, don't feel bad. The majority of women have not been formally taught alternative ways to deal with feelings. There isn't a class in elementary school or high school that lays out what you do when you are stressed. The result: learn as you go."

The media is partly to blame for emotional eating

According to Albers, the connection between food and comfort is made quickly and is hard to break once established, especially because the media promotes this kind of coping mechanism. "How many times have you seen a woman eating ice cream on a sitcom or dramatic movie immediately post-breakup?" Albers asks. "Look closely at ads for chocolates and sweets. They sell the promise of emotional benefits, such as bliss, love, escape and feeling good. This media slant gives us the subtle perception that it is OK and 'normal' to comfort yourself with calories."

We are wired to eat when stressed

Before you beat yourself up or get mad at your mom for trying to make everything all better with food, consider your body’s biological response to stress. "Eating in response to emotion is a natural, hard-wired response that we all have," explains Albers. "We can thank the stress hormone cortisol for igniting cravings for sugary, fatty foods during moments of stress."

However, while emotional eating is a "natural response," Albers says it doesn't mean that eating is the only way to get your cortisol levels in check. She recommends soothing activities like relaxation, sleep, drinking hot tea and other non-food activities to help to rebalance your cortisol levels. "I liked the classic slogan, ‘Calgon, take me away’ [referring to the bubble bath commercial] because it is a perfect and rare example of an ad that actually taught women an alternative, healthy way to cope with stress."

Eating feels so good, so what’s the big deal?

Right now you may be thinking there is no way that anything could be more comforting than a giant warm cinnamon roll oozing with icing or a heaping plate of pasta carbonara, but Albers assures us that food is only a short-term solution to stress and can even be a factor in more stress in the long term. "Immediately food ‘works’ to comfort and soothe yourself — we wouldn't do it if it didn't give us benefits, right? But without another alternative, non-food coping mechanism, emotional eating can lead to excess weight gain." Some experts indicate that emotional eating is linked to 75 percent of overeating. So, for many women, just finding a way to cope with emotional eating will make a huge difference to their waistlines and health.

The benefits of non-food coping mechanisms

Food is readily accessible and seems to be the easiest way to escape from stress but it isn’t good for your emotional or physical health. Albers recommends learning calorie-free skills to cope with feelings as a way to dramatically improve your health and weight as well as give you life-long, guilt-free coping skills. "It can help you take charge of your emotions, which in turn, makes you feel confident and happier," Albers explains. "Let's face it, women have stressful lives and need healthy ways to cope all day long."

1

Give yourself a massage

Do you notice how you automatically start rubbing your temples when tension starts to rise? Albers says to take it a step further. "We naturally do self-massage, and intentionally and purposefully massaging tight spots can release feel-good chemicals in your body," she says. "Place a tennis ball under your foot and rub around. Or place the ball behind your shoulder blades and stand against the wall. It's an instant, cheap massage that can be done right at your desk or in the kitchen."

2

Have a cup of tea

Tea

Taking a break with a cup of black tea, which has zero calories, can reduce your cortisol levels by 47 percent, according to a study in the Journal of Psychopharmacology. Albers recommends The Republic of Tea chocolate teas for a stress-free sweet fix.

3

Get some sleep

According to Albers, sleep is critical to putting an end to emotional eating. "When you miss even a few hours of sleep, your appetite hormones are thrown off," the health expert explains. "Six to nine hours is optimal." Just as you schedule appointments and other events, be sure to schedule adequate sleep.

4

Chew gum

Keep a pack of sugarless gum in your purse and use it often. Not only is it good for your teeth, it can help you halt emotional eating. "A recent study in the journal Appetite indicates that chewing gum 15 minutes before you eat can significantly reduce your appetite and curb cravings," says Albers. "Brain scans show that it moves your brain into a ‘relaxed but alert’ state. Thus, it's great when you get the urge to boredom-eat."

5

Walk off the cravings

Breaking the emotional eating habit can be the hardest part of putting an end to it. Replace your response to eat when stressed with a response to exercise. Instead of reaching for a candy bar, lace up your shoes and go for a walk or do any other physical activity you enjoy. This may be especially helpful if your comfort food of choice is chocolate or other high-calorie snacks. "According to a study in the journal Appetite, taking a brisk walk for 20 minutes can help you curb chocolate cravings," adds Albers. Swapping out emotional eating with exercise also means you’ll boost your fitness level.

6

Try chew sticks

No, Albers doesn’t recommend stealing the Greenies from your pet, but she does encourage chew sticks for humans. "They look like toothpicks but are flavored and they can be purchased at natural health foods stores or online," she explains. "They help people lose weight and stop smoking. They allow you to crunch and chew without any calories. Straws can also help to alleviate oral fixations."

7

Change your eating behavior with worry beads

Worry beads have a long history of helping people cope with addictive behaviors, which can help you break the habit of reaching for food whenever you feel angst-ridden. "Keep worry beads in your hand and use them to work off nervous energy," says Albers, instead of wrapping your fingers around the first indulgent food you can find.

8

Rely on purposeful distraction

Are you a multitasker who not only emotionally eats but also does it while watching television, texting, talking on the phone or perusing Pinterest? Albers warns that distracted eating is a recipe for overeating but that distracting yourself from eating can curb your comfort-food cravings. "Engaging your mind in an activity that stimulates your brain but isn't too taxing, like simple word puzzles, knitting and other rhythmic activities, can soothe and calm you," she adds.

9

Relax like a rag doll

"Anxiety is at the heart of many of our mindless nibbles, says Albers. "To calm down your body, you can do a very simple relaxation exercise: Drop down your muscles as if you were a rag doll. Tense up your body and then assume the [rag-doll] position again. The contrast between tightening and relaxing can help unlock anxiety."

5 Practical ways to stress less >>

10

Breathe deep

Calming your physiological responses is key to reducing cortisol naturally. Imagine blowing through a straw as you exhale. Count to 10 on the slow, deep, in-breaths. Slowing down your breathing tricks your body into believing that it is going into sleep mode, thus signaling the rest of your body to just relax.

Show him the love: Romantic gestures from you to him

$

Whether the romance seems to be wearing thin, or you’re still wrapped up in the magical “honeymoon” phase of your relationship, reaching out with a romantic gesture is a great way to boost your bond. We have some suggestions for simple ways to show you care.

Woman writing sexy love note

Leave a love note

There’s nothing more romantic than getting a love note. And no, we don’t mean the heart you haphazardly scrawled on the memo board after the reminder to pick up milk and eggs. We’re talking about a genuine note you write telling him how much he means to you. Tuck it somewhere he’ll see it like his briefcase, on the dashboard of his car or on the counter if you leave before he does.

Cook him a special dinner

Sure, going out is great, but why not surprise your guy with a home cooked spread of his favorite goodies? Pick up his go-to beverage and dessert if you don’t have time to make something sweet, light some candles and tell him to come to the table dressed for dinner. Even if his favorite meal is grilled cheese sandwiches, it’ll be special because you made it for him.

Plan a surprise date

Forget the same old trip to the movies, this weekend plan something he’ll never expect. Think about what he likes to do and plan a night around something he really enjoys. Build in drinks at a bar he likes and dinner if you have time, for a fun, unexpected evening just for him.

Do something to help

Do all his suits need dry cleaning ? Could his car use a tune-up ? Think about what he needs to get done — and then do it for him! Taking something off of a loved one’s plate when they’re busy is not only helpful, but romantic, too.

Send him a gift

It might be men who have the reputation for sending flowers and gifts, but that doesn’t mean they should get the monopoly on that gesture. Surprise him on a day you think he needs a pick-me-up by sending a gift to his office. It doesn’t have to be flowers. It could be anything from take-out from his favorite lunch spot to a batch of home baked cookies.

Vampire veneers: Not just for Halloween anymore

Would you get vampire veneers?
Woman dressed as vampire

Sink your teeth into the trend

Think fake blood and vampire teeth are only en vogue during the month of October ? Think again! We're chatting with Dr. Gregg Lituchy about the rising trend in vampire veneers and his work with Heidi Klum.

SheKnows: Just in time for Halloween, the vampire trend is hotter than ever! How are people responding to vampire teeth? Are they really taking the plunge and getting fangs?

Dr. Gregg Lituchy: Between True Blood, the Twilight Series and The Vampire Diaries, the vampire trend is hotter than ever. I am finding an increase in the number of patients who are coming in for cosmetic procedures and are asking for their canine teeth to be shaped longer and pointier than in the past due to this [trend].

SheKnows: What are some permanent and non-permanent ways that vampire fans can get in on the action?

Lituchy: Permanent procedures to acquire vampire looking teeth include porcelain veneers and bonding, where the porcelain or composite are shaped in such a way to mimic the look of vampire teeth. A non-permanent procedure involves fabricating removable snap-on costume teeth which fit over one's natural teeth.

SheKnows: Is there any danger to getting a permanent vampire veneer?

Lituchy: No. Veneers, bonding and snap-on teeth are purely aesthetic, nothing dangerous at all. The bonding as well as the veneers can be re-contoured at a future time to make them look more normal and less vampire.

Heidi Klum -- 2005 Halloweeen
Heidi Klum attending her 2005 Halloween party

SheKnows: Tell us about your work with Heidi Klum! What have you done to her teeth for past Halloween costumes?

Lituchy: I have been Heidi’s dentist for over a decade and she always loves to throw Halloween parties. Heidi is always very meticulous and detail-oriented about her costume from head to toe including her teeth.

Last year, we made upper and lower fang teeth, which were custom fit to her teeth. We do this by making a mold of her teeth onto which a set of vampire like teeth are fabricated. The fit is quite accurate since they are made from a model of her teeth, and we also do custom color and shading so they blend in seamlessly with her other teeth. For one of her parties where she wanted the teeth to be more "ape-like," we also added pink acrylic to mimic gum tissue to plump out her upper lip.

SheKnows: Do you see this trend lasting or is it just a passing fad?

Lituchy: I see this trend as hanging around for the next few years while the vampire craze on TV and movies continues.

SheKnows: Any other thoughts on the trend or advice for fans seriously debating changing their teeth?

Lituchy: For fans of the vampire craze who are considering doing this, I say go for it! Life is short, so have some fun with it.

Arrow recap: Deadshot

$

0
So, we already know that Oliver Queen has a hit list of local villains a mile long, but what happens when he runs into another assassin with the same names on his hit list? Poison bullets and chaos.

Arrow Fights Deadshot

James Holder, a corrupt businessman whose cheap fire alarm system in the low-income housing building he owns led to the death of many residents, was on Arrow's chopping block this week.

But before he could give Holder a chance to right his wrongs, a sniper firing bullets filled with poison pumped a couple into his crooked heart.

The secret sniper? Deadshot. He has a real name, but this name really seems to sum up his personality. Speaking of names, he has all the names of the men he's killed tattooed across his chiseled arms and chest. Creepy.

He also has been hired by Warren Patel to take out some of these businessmen, and Ollie learns that the next target will be at his family's company's auction.

As if having an incredibly accurate poison bullet sniper wasn't enough to deal with, Ollie is still having some really big problems with his sister. Her drinking is getting out of hand, and she even got arrested for breaking and entering.

Oliver tries to encourage his mom to discipline her, so she grounds her for two weeks. But, the sentence hardly sticks. The next thing he knows, he sees Thea drunk at a nightclub where she tells him, "You're not my father, you're barely my brother." She also decides to tell him that his best friend and his ex-girlfriend have been seeing each other over the past five years. This girl really knows how to shoot an arrow through his heart.

Tommy does seem to be a better guy than he appeared at first. He really does care if he's hurt Oliver . After Oliver tells him it's OK, Tommy goes to Laurel and tries once more to persuade her to date him. She's turning him into a one-woman man and he's going to prove it to her. You might actually root for their relationship to work if she wasn't still so massively in love with Ollie.

Another big thing on Oliver's plate this week was buying the warehouse space where he uses the basement as his superhero secret lair. He plans to turn the the upper levels into a nightclub. Everyone feels like this is a risk because the building's on the wrong side of the tracks, but it's really only Dig who thinks there's more than meets the eye. And he also doesn't hide his great disdain for Oliver, which kind of makes me like him more.

Deadshot

It's the night of the company auction and Oliver, as Arrow, restrains Detective Lance and tells him about the upcoming hit and that he should beef up his security. Sure enough, Deadshot shows up to wreck some havoc. Detective Lance and Arrow are able to keep the situation under control and Deadshot takes an arrow through the eye spectacle. Unfortunately, Dig took a bullet just before Arrow got to Deadshot.

Back at his lair, Arrow gives Dig an antidote for the poison; the bullet wasn't enough to kill him. Then Arrow takes off his hood and reveals to Dig who he really is. It's really just the polite thing to do. I mean, if this guy's going to be taking bullets for you, it's kind of common courtesy to say, "Oh yeah, I'm the hooded vigilante and we're gonna run into a lot of bad dudes who are going to shoot at you."

Willa Holland sure seems to have things together a bit more than her character, Thea. And she seems a little nicer, too! Check out this clip of Willa talking about Thea's story and what may be in store for her character.
