Target Is About to Rock Your World With Lower Prices — Here's How They'll Do It

Target is the crush you have that just gets more and more delicious. Did we already love the guaranteed low prices? The cute bull terrier with the bull's-eye? The in-house Starbucks? Yes, yes and make-mine-a-grande yes.

But consumer competition is brutal, with new lines and collections being dropped all the time. So Target is upping their game with a — please position my fainting couch... thank you — a brand-spankin'-new brand of household essentials under the label Smartly.

Say what? Oh, yes. Get your smelling salts and fetch a red shopping cart. Smartly will be Target's newest addition to its five in-house home decor brands

More: Build Your Art Collection With Target's Affordable Society6 Collection

Yeah, you say, but how affordable does Smartly actually look? Most items slide in under the two-buck mark. Think razors, household goods, cleaning supplies, all that jazz that one must have to be an actual adult — which is why we expect this line to soar when it comes to millennial shoppers just starting out.

Smartly products will be sold as single items or in teensy multipacks (like, imagine four rolls of toilet paper for 99 cents). No dragging home Costco-size monstrosities to snag monster discounts. It's bulk savings without the need for bulk storage. Sweet, no?

And you know it had to be aesthetically savvy too. Younger millennials apparently dig color combined with sleekness. Smartly packaging will have that vibe, along with catchy phrases on packaging (i.e., "Do Lunch" on sandwich baggies).

MoreBeyoncé & Jay-Z Shop at Target Just Like Us

If that sounds familiar, it's because it is. Brandless — the online grocer that launched in mid-2017 — sells all products from sauce to spoons for $3. Quartz reports that both Brandless and Smartly are all about a simpler model, skipping the fluff to provide more stuff.

“Where we see white space and an opportunity to bring Target’s guests something differentiated, we’ll go for it. The introduction of Smartly to our owned brand portfolio is another example of how we are listening to consumers and bringing them differentiated solutions to make their lives easier,” Mark Tritton, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said in the official announcement.

We're just excited that Smartly products will cost us about 70 percent less than national brandy-brands. It doesn't get smarter than that.

Target's new budget-friendly line is set to debut online and in stores on Oct. 14, so mark your calendars and get your wallets ready.

Kaley Cuoco Makes it Clear She Married Karl Cook for Love, Not Money

If you’re a love cynic, you might say Kaley Cuoco and Karl Cook both stood to gain a lot from marrying each other. As one of the stars of the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco reportedly pulls down at least $1 million per episode. As for Cook, he is a champion equestrian (whose father happened to found Intuit). But rest assured, says Cuoco, these two are in it for love

In fact, when they met at a horse show in 2016, Cook had no idea who Cuoco even was. “It was great because he never kissed my ass at all, and he never cared about any of that. He loved that I loved horses. It became a big talking point for us,” she explains in the November issue of Women’s Health

Horses weren’t the only thing the couple had in common, though.

“We bonded a lot over having the same kind of outlooks on life, insecurities, dating. He comes from a very well-to-do family, so there’s all these [preconceived ideas] of being spoiled, and blah, blah, blah,” she explained, “And he’s just the opposite.”

That foundation makes it easy for Cuoco to say that she and Cook don’t need each other, financially or otherwise — but that they consciously choose to be together for love.

“I don’t need Karl for anything. If Karl left me tomorrow, I’d be fine. And he knows that, and he would be fine, too,” she said, elaborating, “I want to see him. I like knowing, though, that I’m [financially] set, because I’ve taken it upon myself to do that.”

And hey, what’s not to love about two people totally in love for love’s sake? (Yep, that’s a lot of love.)

If the adorable married-people Instagram posts Cuoco and Cook frequently make are any indication, these two are doing just fine not needing each other.

Here's Why Ben Affleck Broke Up With Shauna Sexton After 2 Months

Ben Affleck has endured a difficult — and emotional — few months. In August, the Batman star and his girlfriend of more than a year, Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus, split. Later that month, Affleck was then seen out on a date with Shauna Sexton, and on August 22, just a few days after their initial sighting, Affleck entered rehab for the third time. This happened shortly after ex Jennifer Garner staged an intervention. Now, less than a week after announcing his departure from the alcohol treatment facility with his sights set on sobriety, it appears Affleck and Sexton have split.

Well, sort of.

More: Ben Affleck Is Reportedly Very Serious About Getting Sober

A source close to People told the publication their relationship was over, though he also noted "there was nothing to split from as it [Affleck and Sexton's relationship] had been casual.”

However, casual or not, it appears the separation was a proactive move for Affleck. According to the same source, one of Affleck’s friends, the actor “enjoyed being with her [Sexton] but is working on himself, and being together with her at this time is not something that works.”

The friend also told People that Affleck “will date in the future... but for now, his focus is on his sobriety, family and his next project.”

Of course, news of their separation has taken some by surprise, as it comes less than two days after the pair took a romantic vacation to Montana. During their "getaway," Sexton posted a shot of Affleck on her social media account for the very first time. As of Tuesday, those photos have been deleted. Neither Affleck nor Sexton have released a statement at this time commenting on the split of the nature of their relationship.

That said, regardless of Affleck and Sexton's relationship status, we wish them both the best.

Amber Rose Is Totally OK With Her 5-Year-Old Swearing Like a Sailor

Model and activist Amber Rose has no problem with her kindergarten son, Sebastian, swearing like a sailor.

"I let my son curse in the house because it’s a form of expression,” Rose said to Us Weekly at her Los Angeles SlutWalk event. “Kids like to curse,” she stated simply. “I tell [Sebastian] when it’s appropriate and not to say it at school. That’s it.”

MoreAmber Rose's Son Has a New Hairdo — & Predictably, the Haters Are All Over It

Rose also said she's totally cool with her little guy — whom she shares with rapper Wiz Khalifa — dropping the F-bomb if he hurts himself. But she draws the line at the N-word, which he's picked up from his dad. "I tell him, ‘I’d rather you say fuck,’” Rose admitted.

Rose and Khalifa were married from 2013 to 2014 and have been co-parenting Sebastian peaceably.

Rose says she has no problem talking to her son about sex. “I’m going to be like Barbra Streisand in the The Fockers, where she’s like, ‘Honey, have you given your wife an orgasm recently?’” she joked. “That’s how my mom was with me.”

More: Amber Rose Was the Victim of a Frightening Home Invasion

Oh, Sebastian, you're going to have an awesome memoir someday. Rose also has plans to make sure Sebastian's got all the condoms he needs when he reaches "a certain age" and sex is on the horizon.

“I’m going to put them in his drawer next to the bed and be like, ‘I don’t want you [to] have sex right now, but if you do, this is how to protect yourself,’” Rose told Us. She quipped that Sebastian will know about all that stuff before he gives up believing in Santa.

Rose says she'd love another child, but said, “I gotta find the right man first.” According to Us NBA star Monte Morris was reportedly dating Rose, but BET reports they split and she's been linked with Def Jam Records Vice President of A&R Alexander "AE" Edwards. So it depends on which rumor mill you believe.

“I could do it without a guy if I wanted to, but ideally I would like to find a life partner that is like a best friend and just gets me and knows that I’m not easy to deal with,” she confessed. “Love and companionship is great. But other than that, I don’t feel like I need anybody but my son and my family, my health and my happiness.”

Girl, you do you. For sure Rose will get a lot of haters for her laid-back take on Sebastian's swearing, but if we've learned anything, it's that parenting is an individual sport.

Jenna Jameson Keeps It Real With Before & After Photos of Her Postpartum Body

Jenna Jameson is keeping it real after Baby — and we seriously love her for it. The former adult film star gave birth to her daughter, Batel Lu, in April of 2017. On Monday, she posted before and after shots of herself post-baby and now on Instagram with a truly inspiring caption.

“Yes it’s that time! #mondaymotivation,” she wrote, “so the funny before pic is me 1 month postpartum. This is the truth and reality of what us women go through after having a baby. Exhausted, in love… and wondering who the hell the person staring back at them in the mirror is.”

I mean, plenty of us have been there. The before image features Jameson a month postpartum in a sports bra and underpants with her hair wrapped in a towel. The after shows how much her stomach has diminished (and check out those leg muscles, dayum).

MorePeta Murgatroyd of Dancing with the Stars Shows Off Postpartum Body

Jameson actually hadn't planned to show the before photo. But she decided it might be an inspiration for other parents who aren't recognizing their bodies after giving birth.

“I remember taking that pic just so I could remember my beautiful amazing body that just birthed a queen. But I also remember thinking 'NO ONE WILL EVER SEE THIS PIC,'" she said.

"I was wrong. I want other mommy’s to know we are all alike,” she added. “We all struggle. But we can take control back. Back from society who makes us think we need to ‘SnapBack’. Yes I lost my weight, yes I am proud. But I am much more proud of the mother that I am.”

Jameson shares Batel Lu with fiancé Lior Bitton. She also has twin boys, Jesse and Journey, 9, with her ex, Tito Ortiz, a former UFC champ.

Also crazy-relatable: Jameson shared in September that she gained the most weight during this last pregnancy with her daughter. “This is me at my heaviest, probably around 187 maybe more. More than likely more,” she posted on Instagram.

“I almost chickened out on posting this before image of me. I asked my hubby to shoot an elbow up pic for a pro-breastfeeding pic for IG. I don’t even know what to say, other than I’m so sorry to my body," she wrote in that post. Uh, we don't think you owe your body any apologies, Jenna.

She's also confessed that she has a love-hate relationship with her scale. She's been hitting the gym to build back muscle, but hey, we all know that muscle weighs more than fat.

“Let’s talk about the dreaded scale. I’ll admit it. I compulsively weigh myself every morning. I wish I didn’t. Oh well. This morning my weight was 4 pounds higher,” she posted on another Instagram post. “I silently freaked out in my brain. Shut up demons! I know these are muscle gains!!!! I’ve hit the gym a lot this week and I can feel a difference. I feel strong. It might be in my head because it’s only been a week, but let a girl live.”

MoreHow Amy Schumer Has Redefined Celeb Body Image

Then Jameson mused, “I think the take away here is that we should all try to step away from the scale and pay attention to how we feel. Pay more attention to how our clothes sit on us and our energy levels.” Yes, take that to heart, Jenna. Write it on your mirror in red lipstick.

Clearly, Jameson cares deeply about her body — and worries a lot about her physicality post-baby — and so many moms can relate to that. We kind of wish Jameson would go easier on herself. This parenting thing ain't easy, and it's OK that our bodies change. The female body is pretty damn amazing.

Brie Bella Shares Her Breastfeeding Struggles: 'You Just... Feel Like You’re Failing'

Professional wrestler, actor and businessperson Brie Bella is best known for her work onstage (and in the ring) — but her parenting journey has also been getting a lot of attention as of late, especially since the WWE star has been so candid about sharing her struggles.

In a sneak peek for an upcoming episode of Total Divas, Bella revealed that breastfeeding has become quite a challenge for her.

More: Serena Williams Had the Best Response to a Coach Who Said to Stop Breastfeeding

Scratch that: Breastfeeding has become a huge challenge.

“My breast milk’s taken a huge dip,” Bella said in a clip for the show. “I used to have enough where I donate. And now, I’ve realized in the last month that I can’t even keep up with her during the day, so I’ve had to introduce one bottle of formula a day. I’m trying to pump and do all this stuff, but it’s the stress. I hate pumping. To the point it makes me feel bad when I’m doing it because I’m so miserable.”

Of course, Bella's frustrations are totally relatable, especially if you've ever breastfed before. But Bella isn't just struggling physically and emotionally; she, like many parents, is consumed by guilt.

“The guilt always plays in," Bella admitted in the teaser. "Mom guilt’s the worst feeling in the world."

That said, she did reveal she still loves the act. “Breastfeeding is extremely hard, but I love the bond with Birdie. My body is feeding my child," Bella said. "But at the same time, I don’t want to lose myself. I don’t want to lose my career. I want to balance both, and that’s what I thought pumping could balance, Birdie and my job, but it’s not working. It’s weird how you just constantly feel like you’re failing.”

So where does that leave the wrestler and mom? Well, in the clip, Bella admitted she doesn't know: “These women make me feel like it’s OK if you don’t want to breastfeed anymore or it’s OK to still balance it. To have other women just be like, ‘You do you. That’s all you have to do,' is a huge revelation — especially since the decision to breastfeed or not to breastfeed is a very personal one."

As for Bella, we hope she finds the balance she longs for — or at least an arrangement that works for both her and Birdie.

6 Things You Don't Really Need to Keep Your Kid Safe

$

We all know that there are products we need to absolutely buy in order to keep our kids safe. Items such as car seats are vital to our children's health, but one look through a baby aisle in any store anywhere, and you'll find there are oodles of products that you don't really need. As it turns out, anxious new parents who want to do everything in their power to keep their children safe and healthy will buy products they would never otherwise consider purchasing. Here's an inside look into what types of products parents don't really need to plunk down money for.

Organic food

Organic food is grown without the use of conventional pesticides. It generally costs more at the grocery store, and it can make you feel like you're buying better food for your kids if you go the organic route. However, studies, like this one out of Stanford University, have shown that organic foods aren't necessarily healthier for you, nor do they always carry fewer health risks. While people will be exposed to more pesticides if they eat conventionally grown foods, these studies have also shown that organic foods aren't always free of pesticides.

Specific products for washing produce

On that note, it's always a good idea to wash your fruits and vegetables before eating them, whether they're organic or not — and even if you plan to peel them. However, you don't need to spend money on specific products that are designed to wash your produce. The most important points to remember are that you should thoroughly wash and dry your hands before and after preparing food and make sure the items you'll use (cutting boards and utensils) are clean. The only thing that's really required for washing food is water — just clean cold water.

Items to help you prepare baby formula

You can buy baby formula in a number of different ways, but the most common and least expensive is powered. Powdered baby formula requires the parent or caregiver to measure a specific amount and add it to clean water — it's actually a health risk if it isn't done properly according to the World Health Organization. While there are products that will measure, add and mix your powdered formula for you, it's definitely not necessary and can actually be dangerous if there is an error on the part of the product.

Actual baby food

You know the drill — once you (and/or your baby's doctor) determine that your child might be ready to try actual food, you find yourself checking out the jars of baby food at the grocery store (keep in mind that the World Health Organization says to wait until your child is at least 6 months of age).

Sure, baby food can be cheap, but when compared to feeding them little bits of what you're eating at mealtime, it's not a smart financial choice. You can look into baby-led weaning, which is when parents give their infants whole foods from the family meal. Babies weren't fed puréed infant food before, and they were able to self-regulate and scrape off food they wouldn't choke on, so it's a viable option for modern parents too. You can also pop some veggies in the blender and make your own baby food. (Top tip: freeze it in an ice cube tray for preportioned meals.)

Portable playpens

We admit portable playpens can be convenient — after all, it's a safe space to set your baby down if you're out camping, for example, or need to get in the shower. However, they're not a required purchase by any means. As Crystal, mom of two, says, "Your baby does not need to sit in some kind of apparatus every second of every day. They can be perfectly content laying on a blanket with a dog toy — 'cause let's be honest, that's what they are gonna go for anyway."

Cell phones

OK, by the time a kid is in high school, they will probably find a cell phone very useful. Teachers often use apps to send reminders to their students (and their parents), and if your kid is in any activity away from home — or driving — cell phones are pretty much a must, as pay phones aren't really a thing any more. Also, parents who are no longer living together often start cell phone use earlier so their child can contact them while they're away from home.

However, giving your kid a cell phone at a young age isn't always the best idea, especially if it's a smartphone, because they might not be ready for using social media (or they might lose it). While the American Academy of Pediatrics notes that there isn't a specific perfect age to give a kid a phone, it's important to consider various aspects in a child's life, including potential medical needs and emergencies as well as your family dynamics and your child's personality.

You don't have to buy the farm

While it's tempting to buy all the gizmos and gadgets when you're pregnant (and not stop until they've moved out), it's not always necessary to go to great lengths to buy all the latest gear. As long as you're keeping your child safe and healthy, you don't need a wipes warmer or a special wash to clean your veggies. You're doing just fine, Mom or Dad, and water works just well.

How Beth's This Is Us Season 3 Storyline Will Show Fans a Whole New Side of Her

If you haven't seen, the women of This Is Us are Glamour's November cover stars and during Susan Kelechi Watson's interview with the magazine, she dropped a Beth season three spoiler.

[Note: Spoilers from last night's This Is Us episode ahead.]

According to Watson, the third season will bring Beth's dance background to light. As she told Glamour, "I feel like she’s going to start a community project that’s based on one of her artistic passions. She also has a background in dance, which you’ll see this season."

Whether or not the "community project" will involve dance remains unknown, but fans can definitely look forward to seeing a side of Beth they've never seen before. It's unclear if we'll actually get to see Beth dance, but let's hope we do.

More: Here's What's Really Happening to Beth on This Is Us

Have you seen Watson bust a move? She definitely knows what she's doing. In July as part of the #InMyFeelings challenge, Sterling K. Brown shared a video on Instagram of the TV couple dancing to Drake's "In My Feelings".

If you haven't seen the video, you need to watch it, stat. They are both very good dancers, but Watson's dancing skills really stand out.

You can watch them in action here:

As revealed in last night's episode, Beth lost her job, so she's certainly going to have more time on her hands. Knowing her, she'll probably be looking for her next passion to pursue, which may or may not involve dance.

Her dance background could also bring Beth and Deja closer together. As showcased this season, Deja was on the drill team at her old school and even started to step with Sky, the daughter of William's old friend, Chi-Chi. Maybe Beth and Deja will bond over dance?

More: Beth Is the Most Important Character in This Is Us

Her dancing abilities could also come into play during this season's Beth-centric episode. That's right, there will be an episode revolving around the character, which could even reveal Beth's dance background.

Brown opened up to TheWrap in September about Beth's standalone episode and dished, "It's really good and you get a real wonderful sense of, like, how she came up. Like Beth as a young girl. What her passions were and how they sort of shifted over time. Yeah, it’s great."

Who knows if dance will become a permanent part of Beth's life or is something of her past, but, either way, knowing her dance background will soon come to light is truly exciting.

What You Missed at the 2018 AMAs, as Told in GIFs

ICYMI: Awards season is already underway, with the 2018 American Music Awards airing last night. Honoring the best in American music today across all genres, the AMAs have always been a great way to bring some of the most popular solo acts and musical groups together into one room. Think of it as a super-fun Grammys pregame where, in a delightful twist this year, the show was hosted by the always vivacious Black-ish actor Tracee Ellis Ross.

While the night is all about honoring the music and the artists who made it, the AMAs have also become a show where unexpectedly wild, memorable things can happen. Who could forget Garth Brooks rejecting his award for artist of the year before walking off the stage? Or Chrissy Teigen dropping F-bombs to protest the 2016 election results? When it comes to electric moments, the AMAs always seems to deliver.

More: All the Behind-the-Scenes Emmys Moments You Missed

And this year’s AMAs were no less electrifying. Over the course of the evening, this show gave us plenty of jaw-dropping performances, meaningful speeches and cuts to the crowd that made us go, "OK, now that's cute." Here’s a quick look at everything we’ll be remembering about the 2018 show in the years to come.

1. Taylor Swift set the mood

Just a day after dropping some political advice on her Instagram, Swift opened the show with the kind of showstopping performance that put the attention squarely back on her singing career. The AMAs also gave her a nice tribute introduction before she rocked out “I Did Something Bad” onstage, setting the stage for a fun night ahead.

2. Tracee Ellis Ross showed off her dance moves

It is not easy to pull off a full-length musical performance when it’s not your regular day job. Host Ross opened the show with a montage dance showcasing her moves and poking fun at the difficulty of doing so when it’s not your prime gig. Color us very impressed.

3. Cardi B gave a shoutout to her baby girl

During her acceptance speech for best rap/hip-hop artist and after thanking her reps, Cardi made time to include her daughter, citing the inspiration that her little girl was during her pregnancy.

"When I was pregnant, I was so influenced to be, like, 'Yo, I got to do this. I got to show people wrong. I got to prove people wrong.' Because they said I wasn't going to make it after I had a baby." Take that, haters.

4. Post Malone almost forgot his drink as he made his way to the stage

Perhaps he had nerves to kill (there’s even a thread about it), but before Post Malone went up to give a very sweetly humble speech for best male artist in the pop/rock category, he had to take a second and remember to hand his drink (red wine at that point) off to a neighbor.

5. Taylor Swift & Camila Cabello showed some best friend PDA

There was lots of love for Camila Cabello this year, including an award for favorite pop or rock song. This moment in particular, though, when the camera caught her getting a boop from touring partner Taylor Swift, was too adorable for us.

6. Khalid gets political in his acceptance speech

Like many artists, Khalid thanked his mom, his team and the fans in his acceptance speech for best male soul/R&B artist. He also gave a shoutout to his home state of Texas before adding on “Shout out Beto," giving props to Texas politician Beto O’Rourke, who's currently running for U.S. Senate.

7. Cardi B livened up the AMAs with a colorful performance

Leave it to Cardi B to have the most perfectly carnivalesque performance of the night. With Bad Bunny and J Balvin, she turned in a colorful, sensuous, over-the-top (read: very on-brand for Cardi) performance.

8. Billy Eichner reminded us all to register to vote

Comedian Billy Eichner took the stage to present the award for adult contemporary artist alongside Bad Moms star Kathryn Hahn. Before announcing the winner, Eichner took a minute to urge people to register.

“Young people of America, the biggest election of our lifetime is happening. That's right. On Nov. 6. Tonight is the final night to register in 20 states in this country. Please grab your friends. Tell them to vote. If you believe in equality for women, for people of color, for the LGBTQ community. If you believe that climate change is real and that we need to do something about it, don't let anyone tell you your vote won't count. Register and vote. You can go to Vote.gov, just like Taylor Swift told you."

9. Jennifer Lopez delivered an unforgettable performance

Legends get that title for a reason. Lopez set herself above all other performances of the night with a moment that featured more restrained dancing but soaring vocals.

10. Camila Cabello was just so happy to be there

The singer was all over the event this year and stunned viewers, and herself, looking and sounding like a princess during her performance of “Consequences.” Her face when she finished said it all.

11. Ciara revived us halfway through the show

Any award show starts to drag on after a while. This year’s organizers were smart and took care of that problem by scheduling Ciara’s performance at just the right moment. The singer got everyone on their feet with “Level Up,” featuring a drop-in by Missy Elliott.

12. Taylor Swift set a record at the AMAs

With her win for the final award of the night, artist of the year Swift passed Whitney Houston as the most awarded artist in AMA history. She used the opportunity to get a little political, saying, “Thank you for this incredible symbol of encouragement. Thank you so much for this, and I just want to make a mention of the fact that this award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people, and you know what else is voted on by the people?... the midterm on Nov. 6. Get out and vote, and I love you guys.“

13. Gladys Knight paid tribute to legends we've lost

We've lost several great artists throughout 2018, most notably Aretha Franklin. So it was only fitting that the AMAs paid tribute to this legendary artist while closing out the show on a high note. Gladys Knight performed "Amazing Grace" and was later joined by Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans and Ledisi.

The 2018 AMAs were pretty darn good, so of course we're already prepped for 2019's show. Bring it on.

Ina Garten Wants to Make Cauliflower Toast the New Avocado Toast

Healthy toast aficionados, just when you thought you’ve tried them all, Barefoot Contessa’s Ina Garten has stepped in to shake up your whole healthy-toast world.

More: 12 of Our Favorite Fall Recipes From Ina Garten

Straight from her upcoming cookbook, Cook Like a Pro, Garten’s cauliflower toast recipe requires a tiny bit more time in the kitchen — it's labeled intermediate level and has several more steps than plain avocado toast.

“I think cauliflower is a highly under-appreciated vegetable,” Garten wrote in her Instagram post caption. “It browns beautifully when roasted, it makes soups creamy without adding cream, and for these Cauliflower Toasts, I combine it with gruyere and pancetta on top of crusty bread to make an open-faced sandwich that’s crunchy, creamy, and totally decadent! Everyone goes crazy for these!”

Did you read that? Gruyère and pancetta! We think the drool puddle on our desks just doubled in size...

The cauliflower toast recipe also calls for Italian mascarpone cheese, ground nutmeg and large slices of country-style bread.

As far as the directions go, it seems simple enough — so long as you follow her very specific directions carefully (particularly the part about arranging the rack 6 inches below the heat).

More: Ina Garten Hates Cooking With This Common Ingredient

Who knows, maybe cauliflower toast will become the next big thing. We’ve already seen cauliflower pizza crust explode this year, so much so that even Oprah Winfrey has her own cauliflower crust pizza. Plus, plenty of brands have been embracing the crust to release an entire line of healthier frozen pizzas.

Speaking of, if you’ve been in any frozen food aisle, cauliflower-substituted side dishes are very quickly becoming a popular option (cauliflower veggie tots, anyone?)

The cauliflower hype likely started in May 2009 with the food blogger at Your Lighter Side, who claims to have invented the recipe for cauliflower pizza crust. From there, the recipe was pinned like crazy on Pinterest.

Only time will tell, but we have a gut feeling avocado toast will soon be out, and cauliflower toast will take its place. Soon enough, we’ll have another study reminding us of our indulgent behavior — like in 2017 when a tech company found that Americans were spending nearly $900,000 per month on avocado toast.

Besides, when you have cauliflower toast as pretty as Garten’s staring back at you, you know it’ll always be worth it in the end.

Cook Like a Pro is set to release Oct. 23. In the meantime, take a look at Garten’s new promo video for the cookbook.

An Open Letter to Depressed or Suicidal Moms

Dearest Mama,

You may not know me — and I may not know you — but I see you. I get you. I understand you.

I know exactly what you are thinking and how you feel.

Of course, I know that may not mean much. My virtual compassion does not make you feel any happier or any better. I cannot do anything to take away your pain. But I care. I promise you I care, as do others. So please, if you've got a minute stick around, hear me out.

More: 13 Things to Never Say to Someone Who Is Suicidal or Depressed

You see, I am a wife, a mother, a mental health advocate and a consumer. I have bipolar disorder, depressive disorder, anxiety disorder and have survived suicide. Twice. As such, I've been exactly where you are. I've contemplated suicide, both as a person and as a parent.

The last time I considered taking my life, I was a mom.

And while I had everything to "live for" — a loving daughter, a loving partner, a great job and good home — when I was suicidal, none of that mattered.

It wasn't enough.

Why? Because I felt empty. I felt isolated. I felt numb and alone, and my guess is you know those feelings to.

You want to runaway. To hide. To disappear.

You want to fade into nothingness and never return. But my greatest struggle wasn't the void (as I call it); it was the feelings of shame and guilt. I believed I was a burden to my family, like I was pulling everyone around me down with me. And I thought, "They'll be better off without me."

I believed — genuinely believed — my death was the best thing I could do to protect those I loved.

But that is not true. I promise you that is not true. And I also promise you this: What you are going through right now in this very moment is temporary. The veil will lift. The darkness will pass. You just have to hang on.

For another minute.

Another second.

Another moment.

Hang on.

Make no mistake: I hate telling you that. I know how unbelievably hard everything is right now. Being hurts. Breathing hurts, and the smallest tasks seem monumental.

You may be snappy and short-tempered. You may feel broken, useless, pathetic and apathetic, and you may be struggling to eat or sleep.

Getting up and getting dressed may feel like a chore.

And parenting? That's probably the furthest thing from your mind — that or it is the only thing on your mind, as you feel inadequate.

The guilt is consuming you.

You believe you are a bad person. A bad parent. A bad mom. But having depression does not mean that you’re a bad parent, and having suicidal thoughts does not make you a bad mom. What you are is sick, not bad or crazy.

You are facing a very real disease.

Because depression is an illness — a mental illness — and it is one that distorts your thoughts. It makes you believe you are not good enough, you are not strong enough, and it tells you that you are helpless, hopeless, lost and alone. But, and this is a big but, it is an illness, and having that illness doesn’t make you weak. It doesn’t mean you are out of control or your life is out of control (even though it feels that way). And it doesn’t mean you aren’t meant to be a mom.

It doesn’t mean people would be better off without you.

What it means is that you are like 6.2 million other adults in the United States, or 6.7 percent of the population, because 6 million of us have (or have had) at least one major depressive episode according to Healthline, and more than 1 million of us have attempted suicide.

There are 1 million survivors each and every year.

More: I Attempted Suicide, but I Didn't Want to Die

So I say to you now the words I wanted to hear — the words I needed to hear — when I was last staring down a bottle of pills. When I was penning a goodbye letter to my daughter, my 4-year-old little girl: You are strong. You are important. You matter, and you are loved.

So, so loved.

And while I know love cannot pull you out of the darkness, while I know love cannot take away your pain, there are things that can.

Therapy, medication, meditation and time all can.

And you can get through this. You will. Because I'm not giving up on you.

Not now.

Not ever.

From your friend, fellow mom and survivor, from a virtual world away.

Lady Gaga Speaks Out About the International Mental Health Crisis

Lady Gaga may be best known for her music, but the singer is also an outspoken advocate for mental health. In fact, Gaga is currently promoting her new movie, A Star Is Born, which confronts several of these issues, including depression, addiction and suicide. But on Tuesday, Gaga took her advocacy work to another level when she wrote an op-ed for The Guardian to bring attention and awareness to the international mental health crisis.

More: Why Some Think Lady Gaga's New Film,  A Star Is Born, Should Have a Trigger Warning

The letter started by addressing the alarming rates of suicide.

"By the time you finish reading this, at least six people will have killed themselves around the world. Those six are a tiny fraction of the 800,000 people who will kill themselves this year," Gaga wrote. "Sometimes they are famous names such as Anthony Bourdain or Kate Spade that make headlines, but they are all sons or daughters, friends or colleagues, valued members of families and communities."

Of course, suicide is but one piece of the mental health puzzle — and it is arguably the most extreme manifestation of a disruption to one's mental well-being — but it is imperative we talk about suicide because, as Gaga notes, it is a very "visible symptom of the larger mental health emergency we are so far failing to adequately address."

According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 4 people have been and/or will be affected by mental illness during the course of their life.

This makes mental illness one of the most prevalent illnesses known to man.

However, the failures of the mental health care system are multifaceted. In spite of the "universality of the issue, we struggle to talk about it openly or to offer adequate care or resources," Gaga explained, and this is due to socially imposed issues — like guilt, shame, fear and stigma — as well as economic ones, like inadequate funding.

In fact, mental health care currently receives less than 1 percent of global aid.

So what can we do? What should we do? According to Gaga, "[W]e can all help to build communities that understand, respect and prioritize mental wellness. We can all learn how to offer support to loved ones going through a difficult time... we can all be a part of a new movement — including people who have faced mental illness themselves — to call on governments and industry to put mental health at the top of their agendas."

And perhaps most important, we can all talk about mental health and suicide openly, honestly and without stigma. Because silence breeds shame, and shame keeps us sick.

Carrie Underwood & Mariah Carey Debut New Songs at the 2018 AMAs

Who runs the world? Girls! And, in this case, by the world we mean the 2018 American Music Awards — and by girls, we mean musical powerhouses Carrie Underwood and Mariah Carey, who both debuted new songs during the show on Tuesday night. There were tons of important highlights from the show, but we still can't get over these ones in particular.

More: Carrie Underwood Is Pregnant Again, & Her Announcement Is Too Cute

Underwood, dressed in a flowy maroon gown and surrounded by candles, belted out the poignant ballad “Spinning Bottles” from her new Cry Pretty album. This was her first time performing since the 2015 AMAs and her announcing recently that she was pregnant with her second child — and she didn't disappoint. The stirring performance garnered Underwood a standing ovation from the crowd inside Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.

“I feel like when we wrote this song ‘Spinning Bottles’ we kind of each had people in our heads go through this,” she said on the red carpet pre-performance of the substance-abuse inspired single. “It’s hard to write, it’s hard to get it out, it’s hard to say it’s gonna be on the album… It’s difficult to sing it to the world, but its life; that’s part of life. It’s hard to just put yourself out there like that.”

More: Carrie Underwood Proudly Shows Close-Up of Scar in Flashback Photo

It’s only the second award show she has attended since her terrifying 2017 fall at her Nashville home, which resulted in injuries to her face and wrist.

In addition to performing the emotionally-charged “Spinning Bottles,” the country superstar took home the award for favorite female country artist — her 13th AMA win.

Also bringing down the house with a new hit? Carey, who took the AMA stage to perform her sultry single “With You.” Like Underwood, Carey was returning to the AMAs stage after an extended absence. Her last performance during the show was in 2008.

And, well, Mimi did not disappoint. Looking like a goddess on a pink platform in an ethereal silk gown, the pop icon delivered a flawless rendition of the first single from her upcoming album.

Maybe too flawless if you ask the Twittersphere, who seemed to suggest (and take issue with the fact that) Carey was lip-syncing the performance — something she has been accused of numerous times in the past.

But, c’mon… a great performance is a great performance, right? If the point is to entertain the crowd, Carey certainly accomplished as much. The singer, whose Vegas residency at Caesars Palace was recently extended, has been hard at work on her new album — including “With You.”

More: The Evolution of Mariah Carey

“I’ve been working on my new album for a while,” she told People. “This is a labor of love and I’m really excited. This is me at this moment in my life being able to express myself as a writer and a singer. I’m just really in a good place.”

It may have been a big night for the winners at the 2018 AMAs, but in our opinion, Tuesday night was equally as big for two of our faves, Underwood and Carey.

Starbucks Opens Breathtaking Eco-Friendly Store Made of Shipping Containers

Remember when shipping containers were used solely for storage or transportation? We don't either.

More: This State Officially Consumes More Pumpkin Spice Lattes Than Anywhere Else

Over the years, we've seen an increasing number of tiny homes and businesses made from shipping containers. For instance, in Phoenix, Arizona, a recently opened shipping container tiny mall called The Churchill is comprised of restaurants, bars and shops. And back in 2005, Keetwonen was built in Amsterdam. It's the largest complex of buildings built from containers in the world.

Countless breathtaking homes made from shipping containers have sprouted up across the country too.

So it comes as no surprise that in Asia-Pacific, Starbucks, which has a 30-year history of sustainability, would open up its first store built from recycled shipping containers.

Starbucks Taiwan shipping container store

The new Starbucks store in Taiwan is has a drive-thru and is made with 29 recycled shipping containers. It’s over 3,400 square feet, two stories tall and will be located in Hualien Bay Mall.

According to Starbucks’ press release, Japanese architect Kengo Kuma was inspired by two things: the foliage of coffee trees and the traditional Chinese bucket arch. It’s also his first time using shipping containers for his designs.

The interior of the store is just as stunning as the exterior too.

“The stacking of the shipping containers created a much taller space and provides natural sunlight throughout the various skylights found throughout the structure,” the press release states.

Inside, customers will find a brightly colored wall mural. It’s a tribute to the aboriginal Amis people of Hualien City, Taiwan. The space also boasts views of a nearby mountain range.

This isn’t the first Starbucks store made of shipping containers, however. Starbucks has opened 45 shipping container stores in the U.S. alone.

The drive-thru store in Tukwila, Washington, was made using four shipping containers. Northglenn, Colorado, is also home to a shipping container store.

These shipping container stores allow Starbucks to minimize the environmental footprint generally associated with new buildings.

5 Things You Can Do to Honor International Day of the Girl Child With Your Kids

Did you know that the International Day of the Girl Child is Oct. 11? The holiday is only seven years old — the same age of many at-risk girls around the globe who are forced to work long hours to help support their families or to simply survive.

In 2017, UNICEF created this video (with a nod to Beyoncé) in honor of girls around the world:

The U.S. arm of the campaign has a little history lesson for you: In December 2011, the United Nations declared Oct. 11 the International Day of the Girl Child “to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.” (You can read the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the International Day of the Girl Child too.)

According to the United Nations, the day "aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights."

This Oct. 11 kicks off the theme and yearlong effort, With Her: A Skilled GirlForce. The campaign seeks to "bring together partners and stakeholders to advocate for, and draw attention and investments to, the most pressing needs and opportunities for girls to attain skills for employability."

This is no easy task — 600 million adolescent girls will enter the world's workforce in the next 10 years, and more than 90 percent of those who live in developing countries will work in the informal sector — and that's where low pay (or no pay), exploitation, abuse and risk for human trafficking are the greatest.

According to the U.N., there is a huge demand for educated and skilled workers, but "roughly a quarter of young people — most of them female — are currently neither employed or in education or training."

What can you do to make a difference in this effort? How you can best honor girl children on Oct. 11 — and all year long? We've got a few ideas we think you'll like.

More20 of the Most Inspiring Modern Quotes on Feminism

1. Visit a nursing home to learn about a resident's childhood

Ask a local nursing home if there's a resident who rarely has visitors — someone who might welcome the chance to talk about her life as a young girl. Take your little ones (and a big bouquet of flowers), and make a new friend who's likely endured challenges many kids can't imagine today.

2. Celebrate the amazing stories of the women & girls in your own family

Talk about the different kinds of girl power that seem to have been passed down — generation after generation. Yank out those dusty albums and frame some special black-and-white photos. Ask Grandma (or another inspiring woman) everything you've ever wanted to know about her childhood. (You can break the ice with these 10 questions.) Video the visit, and you might just be amazed what stories you capture for posterity. Your kids — girls and boys — might just thank you someday.

3. Give to charities that focus on the specific needs of girls & women

Need help tracking them down? We've got you covered. One of our favorites is Camfed, which "tackles poverty and inequality by supporting marginalised girls to go to school and succeed, and empowering young women to step up as leaders of change."

4. Follow social media accounts that stress the importance of fighting for girls

For instance, if you're an avid Instagrammer, there are plenty of girl-savvy organizations that would love to be part of your feed. One we love is The Global Fund for Women, an organization that invests resources in women-related movements. According to Mashable, the Global Fund for Women is "a support system and resource for people to get involved... the foundation's philosophy is to simply trust women." The Global Fund for Women's website says, "The Global Fund for Women exists to support the tireless and courageous efforts of women’s groups who work every day to win rights for women and girls." 5. Read fearlessly feminist books with your young ones

Today came up with a killer list of the best feminist kids' books out there. We're partial to I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark by Debbie Levy ($12.59 for the hardcover at Amazon). But then, we've never been shy about our RBG love.

So there you go. That should more than get you started on your quest to make the International Day of the Girl Child really matter — at home and around the globe.

Mama Garner is movin’ on. After (finally) finalizing her divorce from Ben Affleck earlier this week, Jennifer Garner has, according to People magazine, reportedly rejoined the dating scene. While it’s been three years since Garner and Affleck announced they were separating, Garner only just filed a request last week to expedite the divorce.

And, per People’s sources, the move has given the Peppermint star the push to put herself out there romantically.

“Jen has been wanting to move on and now when the divorce is finalized, she finally can,” said the sources, adding, “She has had no choice but to be patient since Ben needed to finish his rehab treatment. But she was ready to sign the papers.”

Now that Affleck has transitioned from inpatient treatment to outpatient, Garner reportedly feels confident enough in his sobriety and where she is personally to begin venturing out.

“Jen doesn’t want to be single for the rest of her life, so she is open to dating. She has been on dates, but it seems she isn’t serious about a guy. As always, she is mostly focused on her kids and her job,” an insider told People

However, just what point Garner is at in her newfound dating life is up for debate. According to Us Weekly, the mother-of-three has officially “starting dating someone new” and is “ready to start the next phase of her life,” says a source.

On Oct. 5, Affleck spent five hours at Garner’s house as they finalized the details of their divorce, confirmed People. The pair worked with lawyers and a private judge to hammer out the terms.

Despite the fact the former couple’s marriage is now definitively over, Garner and Affleck remain — as always — committee to amicably coparenting Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6.

“They’re on the same page with giving the kids the best possible life,” said Us Weekly’s source. “They want to be the best coparents they can be.”

Prince George and Princess Charlotte are about to take on two very big and very important roles. The eldest children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in Princess Eugenie's wedding later this week.

In fact, according to Entertainment Tonight, the prince and princess will be pageboy and bridesmaid, respectively.

Of course, if you're anything like us, you're probably wondering what the little cuties will wear. I mean, Prince George and Princess Charlotte already have such an impeccable sense of style it's hard to imagine them looking any sweeter, but we are sure the pair will be dressed to impress, as will the bride, Princess Eugenie, and her soon-to-be husband, Jack Brooksbank.

That said, the royal children aren't the only famous faces we'll see in Princess Eugenie's wedding party. According to the royals' official Twitter account, Princess Beatrice, Eugenie's sister, will be her maid of honor, and Savannah and Isla Phillips — the daughters of Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, and his wife, Autumn — will also be bridesmaids.

The daughter of Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, and her husband, Mike, will also be in the wedding party.

And while Prince George and Princess Charlotte are still very young — in fact the prince is just 5 and his sister is 3 — this won't be their first time in a wedding. The pair served as pageboy and bridesmaid in Pippa Middleton’s 2017 wedding to James Matthews. In May, they walked down the aisle again, this time in Prince Harry's wedding to the now-Duchess of Sussex, Meghan (née Markle), and in September, the duo made an appearance in there mother's friend Sophie Carter's wedding.

That said, even though this won't be their first rodeo, we can't wait to see the young royals make yet another wedding day appearance.

Shonda Rhimes Tells Elle Magazine Why She's Fighting for Diversity on Television

The fem-spiration is real, y’all. Elle just unveiled the honorees of its November Women in Hollywood issue, and this year’s ladies are a diverse and empowered bunch. Take for example Shondaland mastermind Shonda Rhimes, who explains in her interview for the issue what her goal was when she first began creating characters for the screen.

More: How Shonda Rhimes Changed Kerry Washington's Views About Powerful Women

“When I started writing TV shows, I wanted to represent everybody, because it should look like the real world. It should feel normal when you turn on the television and see people who look like you,” she said.

Other honorees in Elle’s Women in Hollywood issue echo this need for inclusivity — and are arguably a reflection of the fact that representation in TV and film, thanks to these women, is changing for the better.

Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o and Danai Gurira — the female cast of summer’s runaway blockbuster Black Panther — share a cover in the issue. On the impact of the movie, Bassett said, “We all felt the anticipation but had no idea how it would mushroom, or that it would be so global and smash whatever preconceived notions we’ve heard for decades — that stories like this about these people won’t travel as well or won’t generate financially on such a huge scale.”

Gurira commented on the gender equality in the film as reflected by the society of Wakanda, saying, “[It] was celebratory of everyone equally [regardless of gender]. You see that in my character. She’s able to excel.”

Another honoree, Black-ish star Yara Shahidi, also reflected on gender parity in Hollywood.

“I do see a tangible change, or at least, I feel we’re on the precipice of one. There’s a correlation between [these] movements and the fact that there are more women behind the camera, in production, creating film,” she shared.

Other honorees in this year’s Women in Hollywood issue are Lady Gaga, Sarah Paulson, Mia Farrow, Keira Knightley and Charlize Theron. All of the honorees will be the guests of honor at the 25th annual Elle Women in Hollywood event on Monday in Los Angeles.

More: 20 Things to Know About the Ladies of  Black Panther

Mindy Kaling will emcee the event, with United States attorney and professor Anita Hill speaking about The Hollywood Commission on Eliminating Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality. Each honoree will also be featured on a cover in the November issue of Elle, which hits newsstands on Oct. 23.

How Jury Duty Saved My Sex Life

$

Right before I turned 30, I started feeling all the "What am I doing with my life?" vibes that come with entering a new decade. Those were expected. What I wasn’t expecting were all the "What am I doing with my body?" vibes that became more persistent each day leading up to my birthday.

I was open. I was restless. I was... horny.

I was also on jury duty. I had been assigned a case expected to last 30 days. Jury duty isn’t exactly how one expects — or hopes — to spend their final month as a twentysomething. How do you sow your wild oats while being a responsible citizen?

That’s why it came as a big surprise to me when I starting finding myself wildly turned on by the judicial process — and I don’t just mean taking a keen interest in law. Was I heading toward a major career change or was something else — something sexier — going on?

Following my summons, I found myself unexpectedly turned on by the strict rules of the courtroom: the objections, the power, the secrecy, the 45 seconds at the beginning and end of each day when everyone in the courtroom stood and watched as we walked to and from our seats. I half-listened to, half-fantasized about the well-dressed defense attorney who resembled a young Bill Pullman (Don’t judge me!). Even the awkward stares, silences and slander from the witnesses gave me goose bumps. Every day, I sat in a room with complete strangers and pretended they were all performing only for me. Was this some pathetic charade or a fantasy to embrace?

I didn’t know what to make of all my new fantasies. I found myself retreating into my imagination on a daily — no, hourly — basis. Without warning, certain smells, certain movements, basically anything could jump-start my brain into a full-blown NC-17 scene that had me questioning my sanity. I even started binge-watching Ally McBeal (sadly, removed from Netflix) hoping that the nearing-30, horny lawyer from the late '90s with a fantasy problem of her own might shed light on my current predicament.

Ally was fantasizing long before and long after the CGI dancing baby you’re probably thinking of now. What was intriguing about Ally’s fantasies was that they weren’t a problem for her: She got off on her imaginary release. Embracing my fantasies became easier as I saw the ease with which Ally found relief in hers.

I started picking out attention-grabbing outfits the night before, imagining the DA stumbling on his words as he questioned the plaintiff while admiring my polka-dot dress. I hoped the better I got at taking advantage of my own personal mental playground like Ally, the sooner I could discover what gave me release in real life. My case wasn’t going to last forever. Soon, I would be back in the real world without the restrictions of the courtroom guiding me on this new sexual journey.

I may have become an expert at fantasizing, but embracing what came after the fantasy still scared me.

More: 6 Types of Orgasms You Didn't Know You Could Have

As I exited my 20s, I was also exiting a long, drawn-out relationship. Enjoying sex now felt tainted, and I found myself questioning the perfectly normal urge to have sex with someone. Was I allowed to enjoy sex where love may not ever exist?

With my trial coming to a close and my birthday creeping closer, I knew it was time to reach a verdict. I wanted to enter my 30s with a fresh outlook on sex and put love in a temporary timeout. I pushed myself to start putting myself in situations where sex, not love, was the priority. I had my first one-night stand! And my first threesome! And my second threesome! I even asked out the defense attorney (after the case was over, of course). He was married, but still!

More: The Definitive Rules of Rebound Sex

Here, I was surprising and arousing myself. Even more arousing was the unexpected intimacy shared in these moments with near strangers. Intimacy borne not from emotional connections but from a mutual appreciation of making each other feel good.

Jury duty tapped into a simmering sexuality stirring inside me, but I realized it wasn’t just the phallic judge's gavel or my odd attraction Bill Pullman, Esq. My time spent with strangers and their stories made me realize how much I valued connecting with people. I spent my 20s committed to relationships — committed in a way that didn’t allow me to experience the simple pleasure of getting to know another person sexually for fear of hurting my partner. I now knew if I was ever going to be in that situation again, I would never let my love of someone else hinder a new connection. There are too many people in this world worth knowing.

Everyone’s sexuality will be shaped differently. A courtroom helped shape mine, a bedroom might shape yours. As long as you’re listening to yourself and your body and embracing your fantasies in all their shapes and forms, sexual justice will be served.

With Roe v. Wade in Jeopardy, Planned Parenthood Announces New Strategy

From the moment former Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, we knew this was bad news for our reproductive rights. Our fears were realized when Donald Trump selected Brett Kavanaugh to replace Kennedy, and after the closest Senate vote since 1881, he was confirmed. With the Supreme Court now leaning conservative, the future of Roe v. Wade is very much unclear.

Thankfully, Planned Parenthood has been planning for this day since Trump was elected and today announced a three-step strategy to protect and expand reproductive rights.

"There’s no way to sugarcoat it. With Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, we will likely see the further erosion — and perhaps complete reversal — of Roe v. Wade soon," Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said in a statement.

The multimillion dollar nationwide plan — dubbed Care for All — will be enacted to ensure that even if Roe v. Wade is overturned, everyone has access to safe, legal abortion services. According to Laguens, there are currently 13 abortion cases one step away from the Supreme Court, which means the court will likely rule on them in the next year or two. Given that the court now has more conservative judges than liberal or swing justices, it's likely that once these cases are heard in the Supreme Court, the protections afforded through Roe v. Wade will diminish or disappear.

Planned Parenthood's three-part plan includes strategies in access, policy and culture change. To help ensure access to care, the organization will be expanding services in states like California and New York, where abortion access is likely to remain legal, and then implementing ways to get people living in other parts of the country the care they need. This will partially be done through telemedicine, which is already offered to those in more remote areas, but will be more widely available under the new plan.

Two new Planned Parenthood health centers will open soon in Richmond, Virginia, and El Paso, Texas, to help make it easier for people to reach a clinic when they need one.

More: Roe v. Wade Is Terrifyingly Vulnerable Right Now — Here's What You Need to Know

On the policy side, Planned Parenthood will partner with advocates and other groups to use state-level policies to ensure there’s an ironclad network of states across the country where abortion will still be legal, regardless of what happens at the Supreme Court. The goal here is not only to maintain existing abortion legislation, but to also expand it whenever possible, Rachel Sussman, national director of state policy and advocacy of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said in a press call.

More: What It's Like to Have to Wait More Than 72 Hours for an Abortion

Finally, Planned Parenthood will continue to prompt cultural change by ensuring abortion is represented accurately and routinely in television shows, movies, music, fashion and other aspects of pop culture.

So while it may seem like we're careening toward a society in which the reproductive freedoms we've enjoyed for the past several decades become a thing of the past, organizations like Planned Parenthood are on the ground figuring out ways to get people the basic health care they need and deserve.

"We demand a world where our elected officials represent the vast majority of Americans who support access to safe, legal abortion," Laguens said in a statement. "No matter what those in power may say, each of us deserves the right to control our own bodies. That includes the right to decide if and when to become a parent. Planned Parenthood will never back down — and today, we are fighting for all of our rights and freedoms."
