Chrissy Teigen Slams Troll's Racist Comment About Her Nanny

$

Do not post racist comments on Chrissy Teigen's social media pages unless you'd like her to destroy you for all of her 10.6 million Twitter followers to see.

Teigen posted a conversation she had with her daughter, Luna, on Instagram on Wednesday in which the 2-year-old tot confessed to pushing a boy at school that day. In a preemptive attempt to silence trolls who might accuse her of allowing bullying, Teigen captioned the post with three sad, exasperated emojis. She also sounded disappointed in the clip.

Strangely, however, kid-on-kid pushing wasn't the primary focus for some commenters. Instead, one Instagram user went out of her way to post about... the nanny?

"I would hate it if my kids spent more time with someone else and developed their accent," the commenter wrote.

Having absolutely none of it, Teigen took a screenshot of the comment and shared it on Twitter with the caption, "ummmm Cynthia you better fucking not with me."

One person was quick to respond. "I read that and does she mean what I think she means?" she asked. "Cuz Luna just has a toddler accent. Nothing else!"

Teigen, then, spelled it all out.

"[N]o. she is implying we have nannies with accents so they don't 'speak like us,'" Teigen tweeted, "but your optimism is nice."

More: Chrissy Teigen Slam Dunks Speech While Wearing Baby Miles

Yep, she nailed it. The comment was clearly intended to shame Teigen for a) having a nanny and b) hiring a nonwhite nanny. (Teigen has been open in the past about hiring nannies to help she and her husband, John Legend, who both keep busy work schedules.)

This isn't the first time Teigen has publicly denounced racism. Earlier this year, she spoke at a "Families Belong Together" march in Los Angeles to denounce the Trump administration for forcefully and unjustly separating migrant families at the border. Before the march, Teigen and Legend released a statement saying they'd donated $288,000 to the ACLU to fight for the "immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration."

So, if you're a troll who lurks on the internet or resides in the White House, watch out. Teigen's tolerance for your racist bullshit — much like ours — is zero.

ABC Is Reportedly Rebooting This Classic Show — With a Twist

It truly is the golden age of TV — down to every last reboot that's hitting the small screen. Among news that series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Veronica Mars are returning in new formats, Deadline reports that another, more classic series is also getting a 2018 makeover for ABC: Bewitched.

More: All the Nostalgic TV Shows & Movies Being Rebooted in 2018

The original series starring Elizabeth Montgomery ran from 1964 to 1972. The story followed Samantha (Montgomery), a witch who could make magic happen with a twitch of her nose, as she fell in love with a mortal. In the first episode of the classic sitcom, she marries New York ad executive Darrin (Dick York/Dick Sargent) and when he discovers her powers, he makes her promise to never use them. That, of course, doesn't really work, because what's a sitcom without situational comedy? Samantha tries, but ultimately, they never manage a magic-free life.

According to Deadline, Black-ish creator Kenya Barris sold the rights to his new interpretation of Bewitched to ABC just before he signed a new deal with Netflix. He and Black-ish writer/producer Yamara Taylor crafted the reboot, which again follows Samantha and Darrin as they fall in love and navigate life with and without magic, but the characters are totally new.

Deadline reports that there's a "twist" to this new series: Samantha is a hardworking, single, black mom who happens to be a witch; when she marries Darren, a white mortal who's also kind of a slacker, she discovers that even with literal magic, she's still not as powerful as a white man living in the United States of America. From this description, it sounds like Bewitched will dig into issues of race and class, while also holding onto the supernatural and romantic comedy elements of the original series. It's not just updated, but improved for a modern audience.

More: Are Leo DiCaprio & Jessica Biel Teaming Up for a Facts of Life Reboot?

This isn't the first time ABC has pursued a new take on Bewitched, according to Deadline, but it is the first time a series has made it past the initial development stage. The 2005 film starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell didn't particularly succeed (it only has a 25 percent "fresh" rating on the movie criticism site Rotten Tomatoes), but the original series has had an enduring fan base. Although there are no casting announcements or premiere news for the new reboot at this time, the network has at least made a commitment to produce a pilot, which is good news.

Doctors Put the Chicken Pox Party Debate to Rest Once & for All

Before the chicken pox (varicella) vaccine was introduced in 1995, kids could count on experiencing the illness as a kind of childhood milestone — the virus is super-contagious and spreads around quickly once someone comes down with it. That's where chicken pox parties — where parents intentionally expose their children who have never had chicken pox to another kid with the virus — come in.

But now that we have a vaccine, are chicken pox parties still a thing? Are they helpful or dangerous? We talked with doctors to find out what current recommendations are and why (or whether) a chicken pox party is a good idea.

Chicken pox & its vaccine

Chicken pox, of course, causes a very itchy, bumpy rash that looks like tiny blisters (sometimes appearing all over the body), and it also often causes a mild fever according to Healthychildren.org, a publication of the American Academy of Pediatrics. One of the challenges during a chicken pox infection is keeping kids from scratching the rash, which is no easy task, as it's extremely itchy.

More: 10 Ways to Soothe a Kid With Chicken Pox

While it's usually a mild illness overall with no lasting effects (aside from some scarring in some cases), that's not always the case. Before the vaccine was licensed in 1995, around 12,000 people were hospitalized each year as a result of the infection and around 100 people died every year.

Before the vaccine came around, most kids got chicken pox by the age of 9. The Centers for Disease Control notes that complications are more common in certain people, including infants, adolescents, adults, pregnant women and those with a weakened immune system. However, sometimes even healthy children and adults will develop serious complications.

According to the CDC, complications can include:

  • Bacterial infection of the skin
  • Pneumonia
  • Infection or inflammation of the brain
  • Bleeding issues
  • Sepsis
  • Dehydration

In some cases, it can even be fatal.

A chicken pox… party?

What the heck is a chicken pox party, anyway? Basically, once one kid develops the virus, other parents would gather them all together in hopes that the rest of the kids catch the disease. Dr. David Rivera tells SheKnows, "I'm an OB-GYN, 64 [years old]. We had chicken pox parties when I was a kid because there wasn't a vaccine, and we were all going to get it anyway, so the path of least resistance was to infect a bunch of kids at the same time."

Since the appearance of a vaccine, however, chicken pox parties are less common, although they still happen, especially among those who have chosen not to get the vaccine.

"Parents of unvaccinated children may erroneously believe that chicken pox is always a benign disease and knowingly expose their child to it," Dr. Amesh A. Adalja, a physician and senior scholar at Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, tells SheKnows.

Doctors' recommendations

That being said, is it better to experience a disease and develop immunity to it that way? Or is a vaccine a better way to go? Unsurprisingly, all the docs we talked with shared a resounding no when asked if chicken pox parties were a good idea.

"Chicken pox is an eminently vaccine-preventable disease in the modern era, and it is part of the routine childhood vaccination schedule in the U.S.," Adalja says. "Chicken pox parties are wrong on many levels and represent a return to the primitive."

Similarly, Dr. S. Daniel Ganjian, a pediatrician at Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, does not advise patients to attend these gatherings.

"These parties are definitely not recommended since there are risks to developing chicken pox," Ganjian says.

He recognizes that while most kids will recover, there are potential complications, and even those who don't experience those complications will experience the itching, sleep difficulty, fever, potential scarring and missing a whole load of school days. "Why have your child suffer and put them at risk for developing complications when there is an easy, research-proven solution that is much safer?" he asks.

More: Mom Under Investigation for Throwing Chicken Pox Parties

Another pediatrician, Dr. Gina Posner from MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California, calls chicken pox parties "ridiculous and risky" in this day and age. "There simply is no reason to put your child at risk when you can immunize them," she adds. Along the same lines, Dr. Charles I. Shubin, a physician at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, notes that the practice of chicken pox parties dates back to before the vaccine was available and "has no current value."

According to Dr. Stuart Spitalnic from Brown University, a lot of it comes down to misinformation. "There has always been a small but real risk of getting real sick with chicken pox and also spreading disease to people in whom it can be fatal," he tells SheKnows. "A lot of poorly informed people assume natural is always better, but dying from an infectious disease is perfectly natural."

It's clear that doctors feel that the vaccine negates the perceived need for a chicken pox party considering that complications are a possibility of contracting the disease itself. And as with any vaccine, the one for chicken pox doesn't come without potential minor side effects like a sore arm, fever or redness at the injection site, which are common minor effects that can pop up within two weeks. There are more serious potential side effects that can include seizures (often associated with fever) as well as side effects that can happen with the infection itself, including pneumonia and meningitis.

The doctors we spoke with (and the general consensus of medical professionals) is that the very small risks of vaccine side effects shouldn't deter parents from opting for the vaccine — and opting out of chicken pox parties.

A Crash Course on the Ins & Outs of Skin Pores

$

For some, the word "pore" is more than one of those overused skin care terms we say almost daily but actually know very little about. And despite our limited knowledge about just what they are, those teeny-tiny holes all over our skin can be a major source of insecurity for some, depending on their outward appearance.

For instance, can they actually change in size, or is it only possible to alter their appearance? Ahead, aesthetician Nayamka Roberts-Smith, also known as “LaBeautyologist,” delivers a crash course on what you need to know.

More: The Beauty & Wellness Benefits of Mushrooms

What is a pore?

In the simplest terms, Roberts-Smith describes a pore as “an opening in the skin that allows liquids and oxygen to pass through.” A lot of these pores also house hair follicles. And within each one, you’ll find oil and sweat glands. The pores themselves are the openings that allow these substances to reach the surface of the skin.

Do they open & close?

One of the biggest assumptions, which we can partly attribute to the tricky language used to promote beauty brands, is that pores can open and close or change in size. And while this would seriously be a dream come true, the unfortunate news is that it’s simply not true.

“The idea behind that myth is that pores contain sebum (oil) that softens when warmed. Think of it like melting butter,” says Roberts-Smith. “Liquified sebum exits the pores easier and allows for products to penetrate the skin easier too. So it only seems like the pore is more ‘open.'”

Splashing the face with cold water after cleansing also does nothing to alter the size of your pores. However, be wary of using water that’s too hot, as it will leach all the oils from the pores and overdry the skin.

More: The Ingredients That Actually Diminish the Appearance of Under-Eye Circles

So, what causes the clogging?

No surprise here: Roberts-Smith says pores typically clog with debris, dead skin, bacteria and oil. She also adds that “oily skin, inflamed skin and under-exfoliated skin tends to clog the most.”

The size of your pores depends almost entirely on genetics, but they can become more visible as the skin’s elasticity decreases with age. “For those with already large pores and oily skin, the skin dries out in the aging process, making pores less visible,” says Roberts-Smith. At the end of the day, what will really seal your skin’s fate is how you take care of it from day to day.

More: The Ultimate Exfoliation Guide

Can you alter their appearance?

There are four surefire ways to change the appearance of your pores: controlling oil production; exfoliating the surface of the skin; exfoliating within the pores to clear out oil, bacteria and debris; and extractions.

“Oil production can only be controlled by adding more hydration to the skin,” says Roberts-Smith, although mattifying products aren’t the best choice since they actually dry the skin out more, causing more oil.

Exfoliating acids such as glycolic and lactic acids are the best way to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. These are also known as alpha-hydroxy acids and are usually derived from fruit enzymes. For instance, citric acids are a derivative of citrus fruits and malic acid is extracted from apples.

As for the clearing out the inside of a pore, salicylic acid is the only exfoliant that will penetrate it deeply. This is by far the most popular type of beta-hydroxy acid, which is best described as an oil-soluble substance that reaches the deeper layers of skin.

Lastly, manual extractions — or when a physical tool is used to clear the skin — should only be done by a professional.

If you need a refresher on which acids fall under the AHA or BHA categories, this exfoliation guide is a great place to start.

September Movies We're Most Excited For

$

The end of summer is quickly turning to fall, and every movie lover knows fall is when the best movies of the year get released. This year, September at the cinema will see multiple revenge flicks, including Peppermint, starring Jennifer Garner, Lizzie, based on the true story of a woman who hacked her parents to death with an ax, and Assassination Nation, about a group of teens who take matters into their own hands when their texts and emails are hacked.

If those aren't to your liking, this September there are also two documentaries about women who broke gender barriers in comedy and rock and roll. A beloved classic book, Little Women, gets a modern-day remake that stars Lea Thompson, Sarah Davenport and Allie Jennings, and another book adaptation is A Simple Favor, starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively as two best friends sharing some very dark secrets.

Here's our list of the best movies coming to theaters every weekend in September.

Sept. 7

Peppermint

Riley (Jennifer Garner) seeks justice after her husband and daughter are gunned down by a Mexican drug cartel. But as she works her way through a legal system tainted by corrupt judges and dirty cops, she decides to take the law into her own hands. We’re excited for this movie because Garner gets to return to the action scenes we came to know and love when she was on the TV show Alias.

Sept. 14

Mandy

In this off-kilter horror movie, Red (Nicholas Cage) is obsessed with getting revenge on a terror cult after they kill the love of his life. We're so curious to see this film because the trailer looks absolutely freaky.

White Boy Rick

Starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Jason Leigh, this movie is based on the true story of Richard Wershe Jr., a teenage undercover informant for the FBI who got caught trafficking drugs in the 1980s. We can’t wait for this movie because the story sounds fascinating (and we also love '80s music).

Lizzie

This movie is a retelling of the shocking story of Lizzie Borden (Chloë Sevigny), the woman who hacked her parents to death with an ax in 1892. Kristen Stewart plays her lover, and we’re so excited to see the chemistry between two of our favorite actors.

A Simple Favor

In small-town America, a mommy blogger (Anna Kendrick) attempts to solve the mystery around the disappearance of her best friend (Blake Lively). We’re thrilled to see this movie because Kendrick is just so talented, and we loved the book that inspired the film.

The House With a Clock in Its Walls

A boy (Owen Vaccaro) and his quirky uncle (Jack Black) must find a mysterious evil clock hidden inside a house that's straight out of a Tim Burton movie. We can only imagine the intriguing oddball rooms and objects in this strange house and how they’ll add fun and fantasy to the story. Cate Blanchett also stars.

Sept. 21

Assassination Nation

Odessa Young, Hari Nef and Suki Waterhouse play high school buddies whose small town implodes when 17,000 people’s emails and texts get leaked. This movie is definitely a cautionary tale for teens living in the digital age.

Life Itself

This ensemble film tells the multigenerational story of the journey one family takes to find love and stability. Set in both New York and Spain, the film features an international cast that includes Olivia Wilde, Antonio Banderas, Annette Bening and Laia Costa. We’re enthusiastic to see this movie because it’s written and directed by Dan Fogelman, the writer/producer of the TV show This is Us.

Love, Gilda

This documentary weaves together lost audiotapes and interviews of Gilda Radner, a comedic genius, taken from the world much too soon. We want to see this movie to understand what inspired her hilarious work on Saturday Night Live and how she advanced women in comedy, a genre typically dominated by men.

Sept. 28

Night School

Kevin Hart plays a brilliant salesman who goes back to school with the hope of becoming a stockbroker. His night school teacher is played by comedy's new it girl, Tiffany Haddish. Why are we desperate to see this movie? Two names: Hart and Haddish.

Smallfoot

In this reversal of the Bigfoot story, a yeti becomes convinced that small, intelligent creatures called humans actually exist. This movie looks like a very clever take on an old myth, and it features the voices of Channing Tatum, Zendaya and James Corden.

More15 Must-See Shows & Movies Leaving Netflix in August

Little Women

This movie imagines what the March family from Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel would be like in 2018, with social media, cars and online dating. We already know and love these four sisters. Lea Thompson plays the matriarch, Marmee.

Joan Jett: Bad Reputation

This documentary tells the story of how Joan Jett blazed a trail for women in rock and roll. From bad reviews to shocking physical violence, Jett never let anything stop her from following her dream. We’re excited for this movie because Jett is still a role model for women everywhere who want to live and play in a man's world.

This Timeline of Breastfeeding Barriers Will Remind You That Moms Are Almost Too Strong

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure your baby's health and survival according to the World Health Organization. But globally, only 40 percent of infants under 6 months of age are exclusively breastfed — and for myriad reasons, many of which have to do with breastfeeding complications. Of course, some women do not breastfeed by choice and others cannot breastfeed due to health complications that make it impossible or unsafe, but many other women start breastfeeding and don't continue because there are unanticipated hurdles along the journey.

Breastfeeding exclusively for six months, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, can be invaluable for the health of both you and your child. Breast milk contains antibodies that protect infants from illnesses and child mortality according to the WHO. Likewise, breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests later in life, and they have a reduced risk of developing obesity and Type 2 diabetes. The act of breastfeeding can even prove beneficial for mothers by reducing their risk of breast and cervical cancer, Type 2 diabetes and postpartum depression as well. But despite the common benefits for mothers and their babies, women have different experiences with breastfeeding.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 74 percent of new moms start out breastfeeding their babies, but by the 6-month mark, only 14 percent are still nursing exclusively. Because a lot of women will face challenges along the way, here are 10 breastfeeding problems you might encounter at every stage, as well as some advice on how to handle them.

More: A Male Coach Told Serena Williams to Stop Breastfeeding — Here's Her Killer Comeback

Be prepared and make better-informed decisions about your next steps.

During the first few days postpartum

1. A lack of immediate skin-to-skin contact

If you don't get to experience skin-to-skin contact or are not able to nurse immediately following birth (if you had a C-section or a complicated birth, for example), you may face more complications with breastfeeding — but that doesn't mean you won't be able to do it. The study, "Uninterrupted Skin-to-Skin Contact Immediately After Birth," shows that skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth increases breastfeeding rates and duration according to Medscape.

2. Breast pain

According to the study, "Duration of Breastfeeding After Early Initiation and Frequent Feeding," 44 percent of women are worried about pain during breastfeeding three days into the postpartum period.

The reality is that you may experience severe breast engorgement; the fullness and hardness of your breasts may not decrease by the end of a feeding; your nipples may crack; you may bleed; you may get blisters and bruises; and you may get blocked milk ducts, which can be painful and lead to inflamed breast tissue. These problems are common, and it's important that you consult with your doctor about any indications of the aforementioned complications so you can treat the symptoms and carry on breastfeeding as comfortably as possible.

3. Breast infections

You may develop infections like mastitis, which is characterized by soreness or a lump in the breast with symptoms like nausea, vomiting and breast discharge. While you may develop these infections at any point during your breastfeeding journey, your body is extra vulnerable when you're first getting started out and learning how to feed your baby. This infection is common, with more than 200,000 cases in the U.S. each year. Treatments include self-care (keeping up with personal hygiene and avoiding tight clothing that could irritate your breasts), some over-the-counter anti-inflammatory and pain medications and antibiotics.

4. Latching problems

More than half of women are worried about their baby's latch within the first three days of breastfeeding, according to the aforementioned study. Another Pediatrics journal survey of 1,300 nursing women found that 54 percent of mothers cited difficulties with regard to latching as the reason they actually stopped breastfeeding during the first month.

Maybe your baby is too fussy or too sleepy, maybe your nipples are large or inverted, maybe your baby has a tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) or a cleft lip — whatever the case, talk to your doctor about how to solve these common latching problems. They may recommend you try squeezing your breasts during suckling or that you try using a pump.

During the first few weeks postpartum

5. Low milk supply

For some women, it may take a little bit longer for their milk to come in. Babies can lose up to 7 percent of their weight during this time — if that number climbs to 10 percent, it may become a concern. Mothers are encouraged to nurse at least eight times per day for up to 30 minutes during this period according to a study on nutrition during lactation published in the National Academies Press.

6. Low milk intake

After a few days, some signs that your baby is not ingesting enough milk include if your baby has fewer than six wet diapers and four stools per day, dark yellow or red-specked urine and dark stool (as opposed to yellow and loose stool) according to Healthy Children. Another strong sign that your baby isn't getting enough milk is inadequate weight gain. If your baby hasn't started gaining at least 5 to 7 ounces per week since your milk came in, it may be cause for concern according to Healthy Children.

7. Sheer exhaustion

Maybe you feel like your baby is constantly nursing — and that may be the case since your baby is going through their first growth spurt. Studies show that, if you have a partner, their support is key. In fact, 74 percent of babies whose fathers attended an early breastfeeding-intervention class were breastfeeding compared to just 41 percent of babies whose fathers didn't attend a class, according to the study, "Fathers' Experiences of Supporting Breastfeeding: Challenges for Breastfeeding Promotion and Education."

After a few months postpartum

8. Too-long or too-short feeds

According to Healthy Children, if your baby's nursing sessions are consistently briefer than about 10 minutes during the first few months of breastfeeding, they may not be getting enough milk. Likewise, if your baby consistently nurses for almost an hour, it may mean that your baby isn't getting enough milk due to ineffective suckling or low milk production. Talk with your doctor to make sure you're not dealing with an issue like clogged milk ducts or to see if there's something you can be doing to help your baby feed more efficiently.

9. Feelings of disconnection

The 6-month mark is the minimum age you can start introducing your baby to solid foods according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, though women are encouraged to breastfeed for at least a year. During this time, as your baby starts to wean off nursing, you, like many women, may start to feel a sense of loss. Know that this is normal, and you're not alone in this feeling.

The majority of new mothers in the United States also rejoin the workforce (if they've taken maternity leave) before their baby is a year old, sometimes returning to work just six to eight weeks after giving birth. Women whose maternity leave is less than six weeks are four times as likely to stop nursing than women who don't return to work. This period can cause feelings of disconnection and separation anxiety for new mothers. Reach out to new parent resource groups, lean on family and friends for support and talk to your doctors to discuss your options if your anxiety persists or develops into depression.

After the first year postpartum

10. Shame

While breastfeeding in public spaces is now finally legal in all 50 states (following long-awaited legislation in Utah and Idaho), many nursing mothers are still suppressed and discouraged from breastfeeding — especially as babies grow older. According to research from the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, 6 in 10 mothers of children up to 5 years old say they've been criticized about their parenting decisions. Of those women, 39 percent said they were shamed for their choices in breastfeeding or bottle-feeding their children. To make matters worse, less than half of society thinks that women should even have the right to breastfeed in public.

Women are often given unsolicited and, perhaps worse, inconsistent advice on how, where and for how long they should nurse their babies. The truth is that there's no one best way to do it, as all women's experiences are unique to them. Stay confident in your breastfeeding decisions and try to ignore all the white noise.

Oh, it's just another day in the Kardashian world. Why are we even surprised Khloé Kardashian's baby girl, True Thompson, was just gifted a mini-Bentley car from her honorary aunt Kimora Lee Simmons (yeah, that Kimora Lee Simmons)?

"I'm not sure what's cuter," wrote Kardashian in an Instagram post, "the cute teddy bear driving the Bentley truck or True's cheeks and smile. Thank you Auntie Kimora and family for the precious gift!"

MoreChrissy Teigen Slams Troll About Racist Comment About Her Nanny

Kardashian also shared on her Instagram Story that Simmons was feeling so generous, she gave baby Bentleys to Kylie Jenner's baby, Stormi, and Kim Kardashian West's daughter, Chicago. The toy ride-in cars retail for around $300 each.

"Oh my God! I just came back from the gym and look what Kimora Lee sent to the girls!" Kardashian squealed in her Instagram Story, showing the trio of luxe teeny Bentleys. "This one is for Stormi, this is for Chicago, this is for my True mama. Oh my God! Thank you, thank you."

That is one serious baby squad. They're rollin' — and some fans are hatin' a little.

One follower wrote, "She should of receive a cross or a bible so this child grows closer to God as opposed to embedding materialism in her brain." Whoa. Chill.

Kardashian had a quick retort: "We read children's bible stories everyday and we say prayers every single night but you should not pass judgement either way. Why be so negative if you are a child of God?"

Kardashian continued, "She's a baby who received a beautiful sweet gift and I was SOOO excited to put her in it and take a picture! I'm enjoying every single moment I can with my sweet angel! The angel GOD gave me!"

Kardashian also tweeted, "I don't want to be one of those moms that only posts pictures of her kids but I can't help it LOL I feel like my Instagram should be a Khloé/True Instagram page. Ugh she's just so sweet I can't control myself sorry in advance guys lol."

Except for the stable of mini-Bentleys, she sounds like every other mom out there, no?

Ready to drink right out of the bottle, the Golden Rosé Margarita has an ABV of 12.7 percent. According to Business Insider, this alcohol content is more on par with a glass of rosé than a traditional margarita.

Drink this cocktail right out of the bottle (chilled, of course) or, as the brand recommends, serve it as a spritz — combine it with equal parts club soda and garnish it with the fruit of your choice. Or if you want to end summer on an even sweeter note, serve it with an ice pop.

Christina El Moussa & Ant Anstead's Blended Family Vacation Hits a Snag

It looks like timing is not on Christina El Moussa and Ant Anstead's side this week. After spending a glorious week in Hawaii with their kids, paddleboarding, drinking out of pineapples and hanging on the beach, the couple's plans to leave on Thursday hit a big snag.

More: Christina El Moussa Says She's Open to Getting Married Again

With Hurricane Lane barreling down on Hawaii and flights growing more and more scarce by the hour, El Moussa and Anstead found they were going to have to play the waiting game if they wanted to get home before the hurricane actually hit. The group attempted to catch their scheduled flight on Tuesday, but according to El Moussa's Instagram post showing her and four very weary-looking kids (El Moussa's two, Brayden, 3, and Taylor, 7, and Anstead's two, Archie, 12, and Amelia, 14), they all missed their flight.

"First time I have ever missed a flight," El Moussa wrote. "Hurricane traffic and a visit to urgent care were the culprits. And with 4 kids in tow. I guess Maui wasn’t ready for us to leave."

If you're wondering about the timeline, it looks like the group left the airport on Tuesday and found a spot to hang out before returning to the airport on Thursday to see if fortune was on their side. As it turns out, it was — sort of. According to another update from El Moussa on her Instagram (who seems to have posted once she landed back in California), Anstead made a gentlemanly show of love by letting El Moussa, Taylor and Brayden get the first available flight back while he and his kids stayed behind to catch the next flight.

El Moussa clued her followers in on the heartwarming turn of events, writing on Thursday night, "Love this man!! ... we couldn’t get a flight out of Maui for 6 of us so @ant_anstead insisted me and my kids take the first one. Ant and his kids fly out at 9 pm."

After seeing El Moussa and her kids off safely, Anstead took to his Instagram Story to post updates for his fans about his own journey to get himself, Amelia and Archie back to California. While there were still delays, the Anstead clan finally got on a plane and made their way home.

So, what did we learn from this entire ordeal? Well, for one thing, be careful not to plan a luxurious vacation when a hurricane is forecasted to roll through the islands. Also, if you do find yourself stuck like these lovebirds and their respective kids, then maybe do something chivalrous, like Anstead did, and earn some good karma in the process.

Jewel's Son Had a 'Generosity Spirit' Birthday & Threw Fish in Lieu of Getting Gifts

Alaskan kids birthday parties sound very different from LA kids parties if singer Jewel's story of her son's seventh birthday is any indication.

Jewel told Us Magazine that before his seventh birthday, she asked son Kase to pick an object he "dearly loved" to part with by giving to a friend.

“He asked me, ‘How will I know if it’s something I really, dearly love?’” Jewel recounted to Us. “And I go, ‘Can you think of giving something away that would make you cry?’ And he instantly started crying.”

Sweet Kase wound up giving away his favorite crystal to a dear friend.

She continued, “I said, ’Think of someone you love that you would like to have it,’ and he did and he was so happy. He gave it to his friend.” Jewel said she hoped to teach her child “generosity spirit.”

On her son's birthday, Jewel posted a sweet video of Kase on Instagram and told the story of his "earning" seven, not turning seven:

"It’s my sons birthday!! This year I told him he is 'earning' seven, not turning Seven! I wanted this to be a meaningful right of passage for him... this next phase of development is all about self discipline ...( doing things with out being told) , knowing you can shape and have an effect on your surroundings by knowing your capable of good hard work (like cutting branches and clearing roots and carrying water and digging ditches and doing dishes !) and being able to contribute to your family, not just receive. so as part of Earning Seven, he gave something away he loves, to symbolize that we must have room to receive more. He helped mill timber and build his own “box of memories”. Each year he will write letter to his future self , and me and his family will write a letter to put in- and he can’t open the box until he is 18! We are so excited. Also, as a sign of true wealth, and to show generosity of spirit, he caught a beautiful fish and instead of eating it himself- he is feeding his whole family! We are going to have a traditional Yupik 'throwing party' where he gets to stand on the porch of the barn I was raised in, and throw his wrapped pieces of fish at his family- he is so excited to throw fish it’s not even funny!"

The singer continued in the caption, "I’m proud of the young man Kase is becoming. I tell him every day his life is his own. It begins now. And he is making great choices and living his values and that will lead him on a magical journey. I can’t wait to see where all it takes him, and to watch from the shore lines as Life takes him into her arms more and more ... I love my little boy.... and am proud of the young man emerging. #happybirthday #mom #children#rightofpassage #earningit #alaska #family#tradition"

Melt! What a great mama. Fans were moved by the story and responded warmly:

  • "That's so cool Jewel. Thank you for sharing Kase with us. It has been a joy to see him grow in to this young man so far. Keep teaching him your ways and he will be forever grateful as will the world for future generations like him."
  • "Love Jewel as an artist, love her as a beautiful women ,but what I like most about her is the way she interacts and teaches her son that's the most beautiful thing about her."
  • "If only more parents taught this very valuable life lesson to their children."

We have a feeling Kase is a very special young man — he also loves Bob Dylan and shares in thoughtful conversations about music with his famous mom:

Jewel and Kase’s father — Ty Murray — were married from 2008 to 2014. No word if Murray was on hand for the Alaskan fish-throwing coming-of-age birthday festivities. But we love this glimpse into the reclusive singer's world — and the beautiful love she has for her son.

Ashley Iaconetti Reveals How Jared Haibon Made Bachelor Nation History

We can't get enough of Bachelor Nation dream couple Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon. Their romance has been whirlwind, their engagement thrilling and their wedding prep nothing short of precious. So, when it comes to learning about how it all began (Haibon proposed to Iaconetti while filming the current season of Bachelor in Paradise), we're naturally very hungry to hear new information. Enter Iaconetti and her hilarious revelation that Haibon actually had the longest proposal in Bachelor Nation history.

More: All the Hollywood Couples Who Are Engaged Right Now

As Iaconetti described it to Us Weekly recently, viewers will likely not see all of Haibon's proposal when it airs.

"We just know that he had the longest proposal of all Bachelor history apparently, so it will be cut down," she said.

Haibon had the opportunity to weigh in, explaining how a moment that should have been relatively brief (but exciting!) became longer than expected.

"In the moment, well, I kept putting it off," Haibon told Us Weekly. "I was very comfortable in the moment talking to her and articulating my feelings because it’s just things that I say to her all the time. I think I was postponing the idea of actually grabbing the ring. That was the only part I felt nervous about."

Haibon also made it clear that the proposal took so long because he didn't want to let the special moment end without saying everything he was feeling: "It’s that one moment for everybody, right? Everybody just dreams about getting engaged, where they would do it and how they would do it. Here I am standing, talking, and in, like, a minute I know I’m going to be pulling out the ring and getting down on one knee. I’m like, 'No, I don’t want that to happen yet. It’s my one moment. I need to enjoy this as long as I possibly can.'"

Regardless of how long the proposal took, Iaconetti is sure that when fans finally see it, it will be worth it. "He did the best job. He sounded wonderful. Every girl is going to be like, 'Wow, I want Jared even more,'" she said.

Haibon proposed to Iaconetti in June, less than a month after the couple had reconciled and officially begun dating again. Their wedding is set for September and will take place in Haibon's home state of Rhode Island.

Jennifer Garner Reportedly Won't Be Giving Up on Ben Affleck Anytime Soon

To say the last week in the lives of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster is putting it mildly. Mere days after it was confirmed that Affleck had split with his girlfriend of a year, Lindsay Shookus, there allegedly were concerns that Affleck was not maintaining his sobriety and by Thursday, we learned that Garner had staged an intervention of sorts the day before and ending up driving Affleck to a rehab center in Malibu, Calfornia.

More: Ben Affleck Has Been Taken Back to Rehab by Jennifer Garner

Now, as Affleck begins rehab for the third time (he went for the first time in 2001 and completed his second stint in 2017) to reportedly treat his addiction to alcohol, E! News reported on why Garner claims she remains unwaveringly supportive of her ex and why she stepped in to help him once again.

"Ben was having a really tough time," a source speaking to E! News commented. "He continues to battle addiction. He reached out for help this week. He told Jen and was not resistant. He asked her to take him and she wanted to be there for him."

According to the source, Affleck also may have been comfortable in the presence of Garner to the point that he went willingly back to rehab to long as she was by his side: "He told Jen and was not resistant. He asked her to take him and she wanted to be there for him."

Jennifer Garner is seen on August 23, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

The source also claimed that Garner had spoken to her and Affleck's three kids about what was going on and made it clear that she would be supporting him no matter what during this time. "Jen told the kids that Ben is sick and needs help from a doctor. She is open and honest with them," the source commented. "It's extremely sad and disappointing that this has happened again, but she will continue to be there for him and not turn her back. She feels like she can't do that to her kids and that she wants him to be in their lives."

Garner was spotted by photographers on Friday looking markedly more chipper than she had just the day before. While she did not comment on why she was beaming from ear to ear (see the photo above), we should take it as a sign that there may be a silver lining to her story and Affleck's now that he's getting the treatment that he needs.

How to Keep Your Family Healthy This School Year — According to Pediatricians

$

It happens every. Single. Year. As soon as kids are back in school and day care after summer break, the sniffles start. At first, they sound innocent enough; then, you hear a little cough or two. And finally, just as the weather starts to turn really chilly, everyone in your household is showing full-on flu symptoms.

Even if you’re careful about washing your hands and making (read: forcing) your kids to wash theirs, sickness can still spread like wildfire when school is in session, notes Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson, a pediatrician in Seattle.

“Germs are all around, and that's a normal part of toddlerhood and childhood as children play, eat together, share snot and share fun,” Swanson tells SheKnows. “Most children get around six to 10 colds each year, and many of them are during the school year months, with October to May being most common.”

And while you can’t prevent school year sickness entirely, you can definitely take simple steps to keep everyone in your house in fine form — especially during school year primetime months. We spoke with top pediatricians for their tips on how to do just that.

More: 15 Must-Haves to Keep Kids Healthy During the Back-to-School Germfest

1. Look into your day care's or preschool’s policies

Toddlers and preschoolers might not be the best at practicing clean hygiene habits yet. But it’s up to the parents to do some due diligence to make sure day care is a healthy environment for them to be in to avoid constant sickness, says Dr. Jill Creighton, medical director of ambulatory primary care pediatrics at Stony Brook University Hospital.

“It’s important to confirm your kids are attending a licensed day care that has been inspected and verified by governing agencies,” Creighton tells SheKnows. “Look for somewhere with a small number of kids per classroom and a smaller number of kids in total at the center if possible. Review their supervision ratio — staff-to-child — since healthy habits, like not sharing drinks and sippy cups, will be enforced more easily if children are correctly supervised.”

2. Take the sick policy seriously

You hate it when another mom sends their kid to school sick, right? Don’t be that parent. “Review the school’s sick policy and make sure the school adheres to it,” Creighton says. Then note that the same rules apply to everyone. “Keep your own child home in adherence to the policy too.”

Swanson agrees. “There is likely no way to avoid all sharing of common colds and infections, but prioritizing keeping sick children home is a huge one,” she adds. “It takes a community effort.”

Not sure if your kid is well enough for school? Her recommendation is to keep them home until a cough or runny nose is under control. And in the case of stomach bugs, don’t return them to school for at least 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.

3. Wash those hands as soon as you get in the door from school

Get in the habit of having your kids wash their hands as soon as they walk in the door from the park, band practice and especially school. “Always wash everyone’s hands when you return from outside your house,” Creighton recommends. “And of course, make sure your kids wash their hands after using the bathroom to the length of the ‘Happy Birthday’ song. Remember, it’s longer than you’d think!”

4. Avoid sneezing into hands

How many times have you had to wipe snot off your kid’s hand after a sneeze? Let’s avoid that this year, shall we? “Teach your kids the elbow cough instead,” Dr. Tanya Altmann, a pediatrician in Calabasas, California, tells SheKnows. “Try to tell kids to cough and sneeze into their elbow and not their hands. It helps prevent the spread of germs by touch.”

Also, teach them to avoid touching their face and eyes as often as possible. That should go a long way to prevent the spread of germs.

5. Disinfect those hot spots

“Homework isn’t the only thing your kids are bringing home from school. All those germs end up at home on doorknobs, light switches, tables and toys. So when kids get sick, it’s like a domino effect,” Altmann notes. She says that’s why it’s important for the whole family to be diligent about wiping down and disinfecting all commonly touched surfaces. “Use a disinfectant approved to kill cold and flu viruses to wipe the surfaces touched most frequently that we often forget about, like doorknobs, light switches, faucets and especially toys.”

She also says you can send your kids back to school with a few canisters of disinfecting wipes for teachers to use on classroom hot spots too.

6. Take care of yourself

It’s unfortunately common for parents to end up with a few of those sniffles your kids bring home, Swanson says. “Catching colds is often the plight of those of us with young children,” she says. “It’s tough to manage to keep a job and keep a family running all the while dealing with your own infections. Prioritizing rest and sleep, good handwashing and staying up on seasonal vaccines like the flu shot are great ways to decrease the likelihood of burdensome or even serious infections and missing days of work.”

More: These Are the Vaccines Your Kids Need Before Going Back to School

Self-care is talked about all the time these days. (We know; we know!) But don’t overlook it — even when things get busy, adds Altmann. “It seems so obvious, but eating right, getting some exercise — even if it’s just a little cardio while vacuuming or getting groceries from the car —and getting plenty of sleep can help boost your body’s ability to fight the effects of colds and flu,” she says.

This Grey's Anatomy Love Triangle on Season 15 Is Breaking the Mold

The historic 15th season of Grey's Anatomy will be premiering in September and there's going to be lots of changes. From the plot to the casting, it looks like the new motto on Grey's is "Out with the old and in with the new" — and that includes the kinds of romantic storylines that will take center stage.

More: Kim Raver's Grey's Anatomy Storyline Is Getting an Upgrade in Season 15

In a new interview for The Hollywood Reporter, Grey's costar Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, who play Owen and Teddy respectively, sat down to discuss the love triangle that their characters — along with actor Caterina Scorsone's character, Amelia — will be getting into in season 15. Things with Owen and Teddy, who had a brief fling that resulted in Teddy getting pregnant with Owen's baby, will only get more complicated in season 15 now that Amelia is back in the picture thanks to Owen's desire to rekindle their romance.

On this, Raver commented that "the interesting love triangle that's probably going to happen is going to be very different from the typical love triangle" because it will be sensitive to the very irksome trope of love triangles pitting women again women — a great way to seem annoyingly old-fashioned in the #MeToo era.

"We're in 2018 and I pitched, if we can, not having woman pitted against woman. Amelia and Teddy definitely have what they want, but maybe there's a different way to approach it," Raver continued.

And in McKidd's opinion, the Teddy-Owen-Amelia triangle is going to be complex and intriguing to watch (and discuss about ad nauseam with your friends once the credits roll on each new episode) not only because Teddy and Amelia won't be fighting for precious resources (read: Owen), but because it shows how adults handle these situations like — you guessed it — adults.

"Owen and Teddy and Cristina had a very intense, slightly juvenile love triangle," McKidd explained. "What they want to do [now] is show people who have histories and have feelings. All three of these people [Owen, Amelia, and Teddy] have a lot of baggage and history with each other. And there's children involved which is a responsibility. It's not just young people going, 'I love you... I don't know who I love.' They're grown-ups now. It's going to be interesting to see how people navigate this pretty murky and difficult and challenging news."

The 9 Best Exercises for Women With Rheumatoid Arthritis

$

Exercise is important for women with rheumatoid arthritis because the right exercises can help relieve joint pain and build muscle strength. There are three main groups of exercises women with RA should incorporate into their regular fitness routine: stretching, strength training and cardio.

More: These Are the Best Exercises to Improve Heart Health

Listen to your body

Before we get into the exercises, it's important to start out slow and build up strength as you go to avoid discomfort and injury. If your joints are inflamed or you're not feeling well, rest and drink plenty of water. Once you feel better and are able to resume activity, listen to your body and talk to your doctor if there are any lingering issues.

Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting any new exercise program and to find a treatment plan that will keep your arthritis under control so you can enjoy a more active lifestyle.

That said, here are 10 exercises that every woman with RA should be doing on a regular basis.

1. Hamstring stretch

Lie flat on your back and slowly draw one knee into your chest. Hold for 8 to 10 seconds, then return to starting position. Repeat 3 to 6 times, then switch legs.

2. Chest stretch

Place your forearm flat against a wall. Keep your arm at a 90-degree angle and gently lean forward until you feel a stretch through the upper portion of your shoulder and chest. Hold for 8 to 10 seconds, then return to starting position. Repeat 3 to 6 times.

3. Row with resistance band

Wrap a resistance band around a sturdy object in front of you. Hold the ends of the band in each hand with your arms straight out in front of you, palms facing each other. Make sure the band is tight.

Contract your upper back muscles and pull the band toward you, bending your elbows, keeping your shoulders relaxed. Slowly return to starting position and repeat 10 to 15 times.

4. Chest press with resistance band

Wrap a resistance band around a stable object behind you. Hold the ends of the band taut in each hand, palms down, with the band on top of your arms. Squeeze your chest and press your arms forward at shoulder level. Bring your arms to full extension, taking not to lock your elbow joints. Return to starting position and repeat 10 to 15 times.

5. Slow step-up

Place a step board or a low platform in front of you (if your home has stairs, use the bottom step). Stand about 12 to 24 inches from the board, then step up with your right foot and lift your left knee up slowly. Return to start position. Repeat on the right side 10 to 15 times, then switch sides.

6. Walking

Walking is a great form of cardiovascular exercise that you can do almost anywhere. Start out slow on a flat course. As you build up strength and endurance, increase your time and even try some small hills.

7. Recumbent bike or elliptical

If you have access to a gym, the recumbent bike or elliptical trainer provides a great low-impact workout. Start with 10 to 15 minutes, two to three days a week.

8. Basic yoga or yoga stretch

Yoga is great for relaxing, and it can aid in improving flexibility in stiff joints. Some poses may cause discomfort for RA sufferers, so be sure to speak with your instructor about modifications.

9. Group fitness classes

A low-impact fitness class is a great way to have fun and work out at the same time. Check the class schedule at your local gym and talk with a trainer or instructor to decide which class would be the best for you. If available, water aerobics is a great option for those with joint pain.

Oprah Winfrey may love her some bread, but these days, she's keeping her carb intake in check.

Oprah teamed up with Kraft Heinz to jump on the cauliflower pizza bandwagon, releasing her very own healthy premium frozen pizza under her O, That’s Good! brand.

"Pizza is a favorite, fun and easy food to share with family and friends," Winfrey said in a press release. "I am always looking to add a nutritious twist to my foods, so we made part of the crust in my new pizza with cauliflower while maintaining that classic, cheesy pizza flavor you and your family love."

Oprah frozen pizzas  One-third of the pizza crust is made with cauliflower, and the pizzas are not made with any artificial flavors or dyes. Plus, they come in four different flavors: pepperoni, five-cheese, supreme and fire-roasted veggie. According to CNBC, though, the cauliflower pizza crust contains less than a half-cup of vegetables per serving.

The best part is 10 percent of the profits will go to charity to support the fight against hunger. They will be equally split between Rise Against Hunger and Feeding America. Until the joint venture becomes profitable, though, the Kraft Heinz Company Foundation also intends to make annual donations on behalf of Mealtime Stories to the aforementioned charities.

“At Kraft Heinz, we understand that the trifecta of great taste, real ingredients and convenience in food options is nearly impossible to find,” said Christopher Urban, head of Mealtime Stories at Kraft Heinz. “After the success of O, That’s Good! Refrigerated Soups and Sides, we wanted to bring excitement to the pizza category and give families even more delicious options to please everyone at the dinner table.”

Let's talk about those refrigerated soups. In case you missed it, Mealtime Stories, Kraft Heinz and Oprah Winfrey released refrigerated soups and side dishes in 2017. At the same time of the health frozen pizza announcement, they also announced an extension to the preexisting line of soups. The new flavors are: chicken with white and wild rice soup, roasted corn chowder, sour cream and chive mashed potatoes and broccoli-cheddar rice.

O, That’s Good! frozen pizza retails at $6.99, and you can learn more about the cauliflower crust pizzas and find out where to pick them up at othatsgood.com.

All the Ways Sweating Is Actually Good for You (& Necessary)

Sweating. Everyone does it. We sweat when we exercise, eat spicy foods, log too many hours in the sun or simply wear too many sweaters at the same time. For some, sweating equals bliss, like crossing a 10K finish line or Downward Dogging in yoga class, while others think it’s just gross. Sweaty palms, anyone? But for the most part, you probably don’t think too much about sweating since it’s one of those interesting automatic body functions, like breathing and blinking, that just sort of magically happens.

But it’s not magic at all. Whether you think sweat is sexy or sloppy, it’s a necessary part of life. In fact, it’s a lifesaver.

Why do we sweat?

From stress to exercise to fighting an infection to undergoing hormonal changes — including puberty, pregnancy and menopause — there’s no denying that we can sweat a lot.

“Sweat, also known as perspiration, is the way your body cools itself down,” dermatologist Dr. Michele Green tells SheKnows. “When your body begins to overheat, you sweat to regulate its temperature. This process is called thermoregulation. Your body functions best when its temperature is at approximately 98.6 degrees F. When the temperature of your body increases and starts to get hotter, your brain emits messages to the rest of your body signaling it to sweat.”

What is sweat?

According to Green, sweat is a clear and salty liquid comprised mostly of water with traces of sugar, salt, ammonia, urea, sodium, chloride and potassium produced by two main glands in the skin — endocrine glands and apocrine glands.

“Endocrine glands produce most of your sweat. These glands cover your entire body but are mostly located on the palms, soles of your feet, forehead and underarms. They begin to function shortly after birth,” she says. “Apocrine glands are larger than endocrine glands. They can be found on the underarms, groin and breast area of the body.”

Apocrine glands become active after puberty, and because these glands are near hair follicles — like your armpits and groin area — and usually come into contact with bacteria, they typically smell worse, she adds.

Benefits of sweating

Sweating cools us down. Perspiration keeps the body from over-functioning and shutting down.

“Sweat comes out of the skin through tiny holes called pores. When sweat comes in contact with the air, the liquid turns to a vapor, which then evaporates off your skin allowing you to feel cooler,” Green explains.

Whether you think it’s glorious or gross, sweating while exercising is a given — and necessary in order for your body to cool down. According to Dr. Joseph Cruise, a board-certified plastic surgeon, sweating during exercise can aid in releasing stress. In fact, a 2009 study published in the journal Biology Letters found group workouts actually increase endorphin levels — those “feel-good” chemicals — which means sweating it out in your spin class can alleviate stress and help boost your mood.

“Sweat can also unclog pores and help get rid of toxins,” Cruise tells SheKnows. This means your beads of sweat are purging the body of last night’s wine party or can cleanse the skin by removing dead skin cells and remove bacteria from the skin.

According to Green, sweating can also reduce levels of heavy metals — like copper, zinc, nickel and mercury — found in the body. For a deep sweat session to detoxify, she recommends sitting in a sauna (which means, yes, you are willfully sweating).

But fitness expert Charlee Atkins, founder of Le Sweat, points out that sweating at the gym versus a sauna are two totally different sweats. “In a sauna, our bodies produce sweat in response to the indifference of the outside temperature to our core temperature, so our bodies release sweat to balance the homeostasis of the body,” she tells SheKnows. "Sweating in a workout is... the result of the heat muscles produce as they work."

Atkins also notes that the benefits of sweating from workouts are far more significant than saunas, as it has an effect on our cardiovascular system by building endurance, raises the metabolic rate and leads to improved health.

What to do when you sweat too much

As Atkins points out, sweat levels depend on a variety of factors, like fitness levels, weight, age, genetics and gender. So while you might not be able to stop sweating, there are ways to help reduce it.

“Spicy food and caffeine may contribute to excessive sweating,” says Cruise. “Both of them stimulate the neurotransmitters in your brain that can sometimes affect the glands that cause sweating.”

He recommends eating less spicy food and drinking less coffee as well as wearing breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to help you stay dry, especially during the warmer months. Also, to help keep sweat at bay, he suggests picking up an antiperspirant instead of a deodorant. An antiperspirant is formulated to reduce wetness — hence, fewer sweat stains.

But what happens if you sweat more than is considered “normal”? Hyperhidrosis happens when an individual sweats excessively.

“Hyperhidrosis can affect an individual’s personal lifestyle if they’re sweating for no reason at all," Green explains. "This becomes noticeable if someone finds themselves having to change clothes multiple times throughout the day due to increased sweat. One can also become socially withdrawn from others because they are embarrassed of sweating too much. They might avoid shaking hands with another individual or partaking in social activities.”

While mild cases can be treated with a prescribed antiperspirant containing aluminum chloride, both Green and Cruise suggest using Botox to alleviate excessive sweating for those with severe hyperhidrosis.

“Botox treats hyperhidrosis by blocking a neurotransmitter that stimulates sweat glands, essentially paralyzing them from working,” says Cruise. A typical treatment lasts anywhere from six to nine months before it needs to be repeated.

He also recommends MiraDry, a nonsurgical treatment that can have permanent results with just one or two treatments. It uses microwave technology to destroy sweat glands in the armpit, eliminating sweat and odor, although it’s not yet approved to use in other areas of the body.

Bottom line: Don’t sweat over sweating. It might be gross and stinky at times, but it does your body good.
