George Clooney Is Hollywood's Highest-Paid Actor, & Something's Up With That

On Wednesday, Forbes released their annual world's highest-paid male actors report, and while most would expect to see dudes like Chris Hemsworth or Ryan Reynolds top the list — you know, just some of the biggest stars right now — the highest-paid actor is a familiar face, albeit a still surprising one: George Clooney.

More: George Clooney Is Taking a Crack at Prestige TV With a New Show

According to Forbes, Clooney made $239 million from June 1, 2017, to June 1, 2018. However, the bulk of his take-home pay wasn't from acting; instead, he landed the No. 1 spot on the list because he sold his tequila company, Casamigos Tequila, for an estimated $233 million.

Coming in at No. 2 is Dwayne Johnson, who made $124 million thanks in large part to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Jackie Chan rounded out the top five — with $81 million, $64.5 million and $45.5 million respectively.

Of course, this isn't the first time we are hearing about the world's highest-paid actors this month. Just a week prior to the male actor list hitting the internet, Forbes released their world’s highest-paid female actors list, and that also contained some surprises. Scarlett Johansson nabbed the top spot, reportedly pulling in $40.5 million from 2017 to 2018. Angelina Jolie came in second, netting $28 million, and Jennifer Aniston slid into third with $19.5 million. And while this may all sound inconsequential to us (because how many of us are lucky enough to deal with salaries in the millions?), there is something striking about these two lists that we just can't seem to get over: the very large and very obvious pay gap.

You see, if you tallied up the amount the world’s 10 highest-paid male actors made versus the amount the world’s 10 highest-paid female actors made, you would notice a glaring difference: The men made $748.5 million between June 1, 2017, and June 1, 2018, while the women made just $186 million. If you just compare Clooney and Johansson's salaries, Clooney made nearly six times as much as Johansson did in the course of a year — what the heck is that nonsense about?

And while there are numerous reasons such a gap may exist, in Hollywood and beyond, according to the American Association of University Women, the predominant reason for the discrepancy is one of gender: "[W]omen working full time in the United States typically were [and are] paid just 80 percent of what men were paid," and that gap is worse for Black women, Native American women and Latinas. Worse still, older women suffer from a far steeper divide overall.

Of course, the Hollywood pay gap could be attributed to a lack of opportunity for women to get work in Hollywood. According to a 2015 Forbes article, "[W]omen [remain] grossly underrepresented in film, television and comedy"; however, I think this explanation is too easy — and quite frankly unacceptable — because if the gap is due to a lack of work, we need to demand the work (in this industry and beyond).

So, while we are happy for Clooney (and everyone on these lists), it is time for the entertainment industry to be better and do better by its female performers who dedicate the same amount of time, sweat and effort as their male peers do.

Peta Murgatroyd & Maksim Chmerkovskiy Get Real About Being Working Parents

Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are most recognizable for their killer dance moves and winning performances on Dancing with the Stars. But ever since the birth of their 1-year-old son Shai, the pair has been focused on the role of (relatively) new parents rather than collecting dance awards like nobody's business.

In fact, Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy are so smitten with Shai, they hate leaving the house because it means kissing his adorable face goodbye.

"We can’t leave the house and that’s why we don’t go to a lot of [events], because Shai’s at home," Chmerkovskiy told ET in an interview at the Industry Dance Awards.

More: Peta Murgatroyd & Maks Chmerkovskiy's Son Shai Is a Dancer Already

Chmerkovskiy went on to explain that once he and Murgatroyd are home, they just want to stay in and hang out with Shai. "It’s tough," he said. "We pull out and [Peta’s] like, 'Babe, we’re not going again. We’re dressed up, we’re in the car…'"

But it sounds like Shai is totally fine with his parents' work-parenting balance. Murgatroyd recently finished filming her first movie, and Chmerkovskiy travels to check on his Dance With Me dance studios.

"He is older now and he knows when Mama and Papa get in the car, and we do the wave off, he doesn't just burst into tears." Murgatroyd told ET. He is like, 'Oh, Mom and Dad are actually going. OK, they’re going to come and see me tomorrow.'"

More: Details on the Scary Illness That Sidelined Peta Murgatroyd

The couple is considering having more children, but for now, they're just relishing their time with Shai.

"We are trying to deal with the ups and downs and all that stuff, but it has been amazing doing that teamwork thing we talk about — that joint parallel, to dance as a couple — and be in that partnership in life," Chmerkovskiy said.

It sounds like the pair's amazing dance partnership translates to real life, and we love their honesty about what it's like to be working parents.

The Big Bang Theory's End Date Is Finally Confirmed

It's official, you guys — the end is near. On Wednesday, news broke that the upcoming 12th season of The Big Bang Theory will be its last. That means television’s No. 1 comedy will close the proverbial curtains for good in May 2019.

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close,” said producers Warner Bros. Television, CBS network and showrunner Chuck Lorre in a joint statement.

At the time of its close, the series will go down in history as the longest-running multi-camera series on television to date. Since its debut in 2007, fans have tuned into a record-breaking 279 episodes. In that time, The Big Bang Theory has racked up a staggering 52 Emmy nominations and 10 wins (so far).

Earlier in August, CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl piqued fans’ interest by telling reporters that the network was in “preliminary discussions” to renew the popular series and that they “don’t believe it’s the final year.”

Perhaps Kahl, like the rest of us, was simply in denial.

As cocreator Bill Prady subsequently tweeted (after expressing his surprise at the idea of another season), a renewal depended largely on whether Warner Bros. could get the cast to sign on.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, sources said that the decision would likely come down to Emmy-winning lead Jim Parsons, who plays the inimitable Sheldon. If he agreed, the series four other original stars — Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Simon Helberg (Howard) and Kunal Nayyar (Raj) — were expected to return.

While the details of that decision remain confidential, the cast couldn’t contain their excitement upon returning to set. On Tuesday, Melissa Rauch (Bernadette), Cuoco, Galecki and Mayim Bialik (Amy) all celebrated the start of season 12 filming with behind-the-scenes photos.

Of course, now that we know season 12 will be the last, the photos have taken on an entirely new context. They have now, funnily enough, become the gang’s last “first day back at work” photos. The beginning of the end is nigh, folks!

Soon, we the fans will be tuning into our last Big Bang season premiere. On Monday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c on CBS, the final episodes of everyone’s favorite nerdy show will kick off. The show will then move on Sept. 27 to its regular time slot on Thursdays at 8/7c.

And, no, we're not crying; you are

Kim Kardashian West & Kanye West Plan 4th Child With Last Embryo

It's (going to be) a boy for Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West! Now, before we all start hypothesizing about what unique name they'll choose this time, I should add the disclaimer that the couple isn't actually expecting yet. But the pair has one embryo left, and Kardashian West has always been open about her desire to have a big family. In fact, just two months after giving birth to baby Chicago, the reality star shared that she was already thinking about baby No. 4

More: Kim Kardashian West Is Already Thinking About a 4th Child

Multiple sources close to the couple told US Weekly that Kardashian West and West have one embryo left, and it's male. And she apparently wasn't exaggerating when she said their fourth child will arrive sooner rather than later. According to an insider, the couple plans to have their last embryo implanted in a gestational carrier soon.

This will be the second time the couple has used a gestational carrier. After Kardashian West went through two high-risk pregnancies with their oldest children, North and Saint, the couple opted to expand their family using a gestational carrier (not to be mistaken with a surrogate).

Kardashian West opened up about the experience on her website in January, explaining that doctors told her it wasn't safe for her or her baby for her to carry on her own.

"After exploring many options, Kanye and I decided to use a gestational carrier. Although I have used the term surrogate in the past, a gestational carrier is actually the technical term for a woman who carries a baby that she has no biological relationship to," Kardashian West wrote. "A traditional surrogate donates her egg, is artificially inseminated with the father’s sperm and then carries the baby to term. Since we implanted my fertilized egg in our gestational carrier, our baby is biologically mine and Kanye’s."

It sounds like it'll be a full house sooner rather than later. And baby No. 4 will also have four doting aunts and five cousins to play with. They have their differences, but this is one tight-knit family, and I can't wait to see photos of the newest Kardashian-West baby playing with his cousins.

9 First-Aid Items Every Parent Should Have in the House

No matter how closely parents watch their children, accidents and unexpected medical curveballs are unavoidable. From scratches to splinters to allergic reactions, we want to be prepared for any situation — and that's why it's so important to have first-aid items in the house.

Putting together the most thorough first-aid kit can be a daunting task, but don't despair if you're not sure where to start — we've got you covered.

1. Triple-antibiotic ointment

Cuts and scrapes are a normal part of childhood, so it's always handy to have some triple-antibiotic ointment (like Neosporin) around.

"Kids will always find a way to injure their skin, which happens to be the body’s largest organ and our first line of defense against infection," Dr. Ashanti Woods, attending pediatrician at Mercy Medical Center, tells SheKnows. Although the majority of these cuts heal without complications, there's always the possibility of infection — and some children are at greater risk for bacterial infections.

"To prevent these infections, Neosporin or any triple-antibiotic ointment should be applied to the skin following a moderate to severe skin injury," Woods advises.

More: Babyproofing 101: All the Home Hacks You Need

2. Antihistamine

Allergic reactions in children can potentially be life-threatening, so Woods says that an antihistamine that's safe for children (like Benadryl and it's generic versions) is definitely an essential item to have on hand at all times.

"In the event a parent suspects their child (or a visiting child) is having an allergic reaction to something, the first step should be to give a healthy dose of Benadryl," he advises. If an allergic reaction is severe, parents should call 911 and an epinephrine injection should be administered.

3. Adhesive bandages

If you think of items essential for any first-aid kit, adhesive bandages are probably first on the list. Dr. Rachel Dawkins, a board certified pediatrician and assistant professor of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, tells SheKnows that it's important to stick with the basics. "Band-Aids are great for minor cuts and scrapes," Dawkins says. "Also, kids love putting Band-Aids on — even when their injury is small or nonexistent."

Because children go through adhesive bandages quickly, Dawkins recommends buying in bulk or getting the novelty ones at a dollar store. "You could also consider putting gauze, nonstick bandages and an elastic [ACE] bandage in your kit," she adds.

4. Thermometer

As a pediatrician, Dawkins says she thinks having a working thermometer is the most important tool to have in your first-aid kit, noting that it's common for children to feel like they have a fever when they don't.

"The most accurate temperature is a rectal temperature and is the preferred way to take an infant’s temperature," Dawkins explains. "Temporal artery or ear thermometers are fine options for older babies and children."

5. Tweezers

If you're lucky enough to be sprouting chin hair, you probably already have a pair of tweezers sitting around, but it's probably a good idea to get a pair specifically for your first-aid kit.

"Tweezers are an essential tool for removing splinters and stingers," Woods says. Once the splinter or stinger is removed from a child's skin, the symptoms almost always resolve quickly, and typically no medicines are necessary, she adds.

6. A small flashlight

Dawkins recommends keeping a small flashlight on hand for those times when you need to remove something small from your child's skin and need better lighting. She also notes that you could use the flashlight on your phone.

7. ACE Wrap

Because children are so active, it is not uncommon for them to get a bump, bruise, sprain or strain in their daily activities, Woods says. "These injuries involve an overstretching of muscles and ligaments near the big joints, [which] cause quite a bit of pain," she explains.

The most common way to treat a sprain or a strain is RICE: rest, ice, compression (that's where the ACE wrap comes in) and elevation, she adds. With this type of treatment, Woods says you can typically count on your child being back to running around after three to seven days.

8. Ice packs

Dawkins recommends keeping some form of ice pack in the freezer just in case. If you don't have one, she suggests using a bag of frozen vegetables or a wet sponge that has been frozen in a freezer bag. "Alternatively, wrap ice in a paper towel or put it in a freezer bag," she says.

"The usual rule of thumb when using ice on an injury is 20 minutes on then 20 minutes off," Dawkins continues. "I also recommend putting something between the ice pack and your child’s skin to prevent injury to the skin from the cold."

9. Medications & creams

Your home first-aid kit should contain a couple of medications and creams, Dawkins explains, and suggests the following (in addition to the ones mentioned above):

  • Acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever and/or pain
  • Hydrocortisone cream for itchy insect bites
  • Hydrogen peroxide for cleaning wounds
  • Aloe for use on sunburns

In addition to these first-aid items, Dawkins suggests that parents keep emergency numbers handy and in an easily accessible location. These numbers include their pediatrician's office, poison control (1-800-222-1222) and a couple of emergency contacts.

Chances are you probably have a lot of these items already in your house — you might as well take the next step and assemble them in an easy-to-reach kit to make treating your kids' minor injuries and pain easier the next time they occur.

Pink Stopped Her Concert Because of a Fan, & the Reason Is So Pure

Losing a parent is hard, and while nothing can take away the pain or make the grieving process easier, there are moments that give you hope that everything will be OK. There are moments that remind you that, even after the pain of loss, there can be beauty, happiness, love and joy. For one teenage girl, a devoted fan of Pink's who attended her concert in Brisbane, Australia, earlier this week, that moment came when the singer stopped her concert to comfort her.

According to CBS News, Leah Murphy went to Pink's concert on Monday with her aunt, Katrina Donkin. However, Murphy wasn't supposed to be there with her aunt; she was supposed to be there with her mom, Debbie, who bought the tickets for herself and Murphy and was a "huge fan of the singer." In fact, Donkin told CBS News that Debbie "used to dance around with Leah in the loungeroom to Pink's music turned up loud," going on to recall that "Debbie loved to dance more than anything."

Unfortunately, Debbie never made it to the show; she died in June 2018. But Donkin knew how much this performance meant to Murphy, so she took the young girl, and the pair went armed with homemade signs that read, “My name is Leah — I’m 14 years old. I lost my beautiful Mum last month. I would LOVE a hug... Please!”

And, amazingly, she got exactly that. After waving her sign wildly, and getting some help from the crowd, Murphy's message made it to Pink, who jumped off the stage and took a moment to hug and connect with Murphy.

Donkin later told ABC News in Australia that the singer held the grieving girl for what "felt like 20 seconds." Pink then reportedly told Murphy that "it's going to be alright" before signing her arm and snapping a selfie.

As for Murphy, per Donkin's comments, the teen hasn't stopped smiling. "I haven't seen her smile so much since. Her dad said he woke up feeling happy today, happier than he has been in a long time." And that? Well, that is just priceless.

What Should You Do if You Can’t Feel Your Baby Kick?

$

One of the most exciting parts of pregnancy — feeling your baby kick — also has the potential to be the most nerve-wracking. It's completely natural to feel concerned if you haven't felt your unborn baby move for a while. But what should you do about it?

More: How to Cope With Pregnancy Aches & Pains

The first thing to remember is that every mom — and therefore every pregnancy — is different. While some moms might feel slight "quickening" movements as early as 14 to 16 weeks, others don't feel movement until later in pregnancy. So basically, what's normal for another mom might not be normal for you.

According to Ashlyn Biedebach, women’s health RN and doula, how early you feel baby movement varies based on whether it's your first pregnancy (typically, you feel movement earlier if it's not your first pregnancy), how many babies you are carrying, the placement of the placenta  — feelings of movement can be impeded if the placenta is anterior (attached to the front of the uterus) — and your body composition.

Why is baby movement important?

"The movement of your baby reflects the health and well-being of the placenta," Dr. Sherry Ross, OB-GYN and women’s health expert at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, tells SheKnows. "The placenta is the 'heart' of the pregnancy since this is where all the nutrients and oxygen come from, which go directly to your baby. If there is less baby movement, this could mean the placenta is no longer working well and could ultimately be dangerous to your baby."

When should I feel my baby kick?

When you start feeling regular fetal movements — whether that's at 18 weeks, 21 weeks or 24 weeks — you may be able to identify your baby's unique patterns. "Your baby sleeps most of the day while growing inside your uterus," says Ross. "After meals, snacks and at night, your baby's movements will be more noticeable."

Should I count kicks?

According to Ross, you don't need to get too worried about counting your baby's kicks unless you notice your baby’s daily movement is less often in general. As long as your baby has 10 movements in a two-hour period at least twice a day, you don't have anything to worry about, she says.

More: Do Pregnancy "Rules" Really Matter?

Biedebach recommends setting aside a time during the day to sit down, rest and focus fully on fetal movements, making notes on paper or your phone to establish a baseline. "Moms can usually tell if something is happening that is different than normal, especially as the weeks go on and Baby is bigger," she says. "At this point, it isn't as hard to monitor movement since your baby's movements get more noticeable."

However, it's normal for your baby's movement to change and be less noticeable toward the end of your pregnancy.

"As your baby grows — a half pound a week in the last trimester — she has less space to stretch out," explains Ross. "The most likely reason a baby stops moving as much is due to less room inside the uterus. The baby grows faster than the uterus near the end of the pregnancy. It makes sense that a bigger baby has less space in the uterus to move as energetically as you may have noticed earlier in your pregnancy."

What should I do about decreased fetal movement?

If you notice less movement during the day, Ross suggests drinking a large glass of juice or a high-sugar drink and lying on your left side in a comfortable and quiet location. "There is a good chance the baby will move with a sugar and hydration boost," she says. "I recommend waiting two hours to see if your baby’s movement becomes noticeable."

If your baby still doesn’t move within that two-hour period, Ross recommends contacting your health care provider or obstetrician. "You may get an ultrasound to make sure the amniotic fluid around the baby is normal and the baby’s muscle tone and reflexes are present," she says. "Your doctor may also put you on a heart monitor to carry out the ultimate test for your baby’s well-being."

More: Is It OK to Use Marijuana During Pregnancy?

As with everything pregnancy-related, the most important piece of advice is to follow your gut feeling. If you're concerned about a change in your baby's movements, don't hesitate to contact your doctor. When it comes to your baby's well-being — and your peace of mind — it's always better to be safe than sorry.

5 Times Chrissy Teigen Totally Nailed the Working Mom Experience

Sports Illustrated model, Lip Sync Battle cohost and undisputed Queen of Twitter Chrissy Teigen also claims the title of mom to her two adorable children with John Legend, 2-year-old Luna and 2-month-old Miles. Teigen never shies away from keeping it real on social media and in interviews, and that attitude definitely extends to her motherhood experience.

Because she got right back to work shortly after the births of both her kids (and because she’s a major social media maven), she’s written numerous tweets about her experience and about motherhood in general. By revealing her (often hilarious) reactions to judgmental mommy bloggers, the difficulties of getting into work mode after taking time off for parental leave and the double standards applied to working moms and working dads, Teigen makes new parents around the world feel seen.

Here are a few especially clever examples.

1. When, while planning her return to her professional life after daughter Luna’s birth, Teigen took on the “sanctimommies” of the world.

2. When she took a moment to consider how motherhood has changed the pace of her very outwardly glamorous professional life.

3. At the end of a long day, when she sent a tweet asking for support from the mom community (in her typically funny and quick-witted way, of course).

4. When, shortly after the birth of son Miles, she caught a glimpse of husband John Legend on TV — and pointed out the perceived difference between dads who return to work right after a birth and moms who do the same.

5. And, when in an interview with Yahoo Style, she totally acknowledged her privilege and gave a shoutout to all the people who help her balance being a mom and being a working professional.

“Having help. My mom lives with us. I have hair and makeup people. I’m not getting up and doing all this by myself. If I’m not being done for something, I’m not going anywhere. A lot of hands go into it. We have help. It’s important for people to know that. I have the utmost respect for mothers and single mothers who go to work and come home and make dinner. I do all these things because I have help. Luna goes down at 6:30 and has a nurse watch her, and I can cook dinner,” Teigen told Yahoo.

Ben Affleck Has Been Taken Back to Rehab by Jennifer Garner

On Wednesday evening, Jennifer Garner reportedly drove ex Ben Affleck back to rehab according to reports from E! News. This comes just days after a string of eyebrow-raising events made the news, including Affleck being spotted with Playboy model Shauna Sexton while the two were on a date, confirmation that he had quietly split with producer Lindsay Shookus and, earlier on Wednesday, reports that Affleck was focused on his own happiness and living his life on his own terms while Garner was allegedly disapproving of his choices but ultimately hands-off because, well, he's an adult.

Now, it would seem that the public (including us) had the wrong understanding about what has been going on with Affleck, as made evident by this news. It appears things are much more serious than we've been led to believe.

E! News reported that Garner was "visibly shaken," while pictures of the event show Affleck was also emotional as he left his home. A source claims Affleck told his soon-to-be ex-wife, from whom he has been separated from for over a year, that he had been drinking since Monday and needed help. This claim has yet to be confirmed or denied by Garner, Affleck or reps for either actor.

"He told Jen and was not resistant," the source said. "He asked her to take him and she wanted to be there for him." Garner went to his home with her bodyguard, allegedly staged the intervention, and then drove Affleck toward help. When getting into the car, Garner told the paparazzi it "wasn't a good time and to please leave the house," another source said.

Affleck dated SNL producer Lindsay Shookus for about a year before they broke up earlier this summer — something a source claimed was because he wasn't ready to settle down quite yet, while others said that the distance and their conflicting schedules were too great for the couple to overcome. Around this time, Affleck was spotted several times with Sexton, apparently on dates.

Affleck has struggled with alcohol addiction for much of his adult life. He originally completed a rehabilitation program in 2001 and then again in March 2017, when he released the following statement: "I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step."

He is reportedly going to an alcohol addiction rehabilitation facility in Malibu, California.

Affleck and Garner announced their separation in 2015 and filed for divorce in 2017, though they still have not finalized their split. They have been praised for their co-parenting skills and mutual support throughout their split. They've often been spotted vacationing together with their kids and lending each other emotional support. Despite her initial alleged reservations about Affleck's latest choices, Garner's actions on Wednesday night to help him gets the help he needs reaffirms her commitment to helping him get back to a better place with his health.

Now that the cat is out of the bag that The Big Bang Theory will wrap up in May 2019 with season 12, one of the show's stars, Kaley Cuoco, is sharing her feelings on the matter – and it will tug at your heartstrings. Cuoco took to Instagram yesterday, just hours after the official announcement from CBS was released, and shared a picture of the cast along with a message about her journey with the show.

We are going out with a bang."

Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette on the show, also posted about the first night of taping season 12 of the show but didn't mention the news that the TBBT ride will be coming to an end sooner than she thought.

Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper, also shared the above picture on Instagram and wrote the following message:

"It feels hard (nearly impossible, actually) to really accept that this is a picture of the first of the final 24 episodes we will shoot for The Big Bang Theory. I feel fortunate that we have another 23 episodes to shoot this season because I am hopeful that with each and every one, my level of REALLY accepting this fact will sink in. Something else I feel grateful for... [is] our devoted viewers who are the ACTUAL reason we have been graced with the opportunity to explore these characters for 12 years of our lives."

"We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close."

Fans of the show can take some solace in the fact that the prequel spinoff of the show, Young Sheldon, was renewed for a second season, which will also premiere in late September on CBS. Season 12 of The Big Bang Theory premieres on CBS on Monday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c.

You can be allergic to just about anything. From grass and trees to mold, from medication to specific types of foods, from pets to dust, allergies can crop up suddenly — or you can experience them on the regular.

They can be a minor irritation, but they can also interfere with your comfort, and they can even be life-threatening. While some allergy signs and symptoms are obvious and apparent, there are others that are kind of sneaky. Let's take a look to see the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Allergic reaction signs & symptoms

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, there are (unfortunately) oodles of things that can trigger an allergic reaction. Whether you're allergic to peanuts, your neighbor's cat or ragweed, allergies can affect your body in all sorts of unpleasant ways.

Along the same lines, the University of Rochester Medical Center notes that allergies are an immune system overreaction to a substance that normally isn't harmful, such as latex or cat dander. It produces antibodies that attack the allergen, resulting in the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction, which can range in severity from mild to severe.

Here are the signs you're having an allergic reaction, according to the ACAAI:

Nose issues

Some allergies can result in nose problems, including sneezing, runny or red nose, itchy nose and stuffy nose, the ACAAI notes. If you find yourself constantly reaching for a tissue or rubbing your nose (and you don't have a cold), it may be allergies.

More: Are Your Cold Symptoms Actually Allergies?

Wheezing or shortness of breath

While you may associate wheezing with asthma, it can also be a sign of an allergic reaction — and asthma is, after all, related to allergies and is often triggered by exposure to an allergen according to the ACAAI. Wheezing is described as a whistling sound when you breathe, particularly when you exhale. Wheezing can also be a sign of a serious allergic reaction (see below about anaphylaxis).

Coughing

Another clue that you may be experiencing an allergic reaction is a cough, the ACAAI notes. Usually, an allergy-related cough is chronic and dry, and you're also not coughing anything up (oh, and you don't have symptoms of influenza or a cold either).

Rashes

Hives, itchy skin or a rash are all telltale signs of an allergic reaction, Dr. Alana Biggers, assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Medicine, tells SheKnows. Allergic reactions can also result in different types of skin appearances, including eczema or contact dermatitis.

Nausea, abdominal cramping or vomiting

Many people may not associate nausea and vomiting with allergies, but it can happen and is most associated with food allergies according to the ACAAI.

Itchy eyes

Often associated with indoor or outdoor allergies, itchy, red, burning eyes that may be accompanied with a clear, watery discharge is another symptom of allergies, the ACAAI warns.

About anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction, Dr. Stephanie Benjamin, an emergency medicine specialist and author of the upcoming book Third Year, tells SheKnows.

She explains that an allergic reaction is called "anaphylactic" when there are two or more organ systems involved — this indicates systemic involvement and can result in anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal if not treated.

"For example, a skin rash alone may not be anaphylaxis, but a skin rash plus wheezing would be considered anaphylaxis," Benjamin says. "Alternatively, abdominal cramping and wheezing or lip swelling and hypotension or any other combination of two different systems would all count."

She also spells out when emergency epinephrine (such as an EpiPen) should be used.

More: Here's How to Use an EpiPen

"A person should immediately use their EpiPen if there is swelling of the lips, tongue or mouth; [they are] having trouble breathing or if they are feeling dizzy — as this may indicate low blood pressure," she explains. "If the reaction is due to a bite or sting, removing the stinger is necessary to stop the reaction from continuing."

Anaphylaxis can also involve a hoarse voice, tightness of the throat, rapid heartbeat or an impending feeling of doom. Of course, if someone doesn't know they have a severe allergy or suddenly experiences anaphylaxis, it's critical to place an emergency call (such as to 911) for immediate help.

It's also important to note that a person should be evaluated in a hospital anytime they need to use their EpiPen — this usually means calling 911 after they've administered the emergency treatment, Benjamin says. The reason? "The effects of the epinephrine may wear off before the reaction to the allergen resolves," she explains. "The person may need additional doses of epinephrine as well as other interventions to safely and completely treat their reaction."

If you have an allergy, you're not alone

Allergies are, unfortunately, common. There are a variety of treatment options, and for some allergies, avoidance is crucial, as is carrying around emergency medication. Knowing how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction is an excellent step toward managing your allergies, so keep the above list in mind and treat accordingly (or visit an allergist!).

File the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt Divorce Settlement Issue Under 'Never-Ending'

It's been nearly two years since Angelina Jolie filed for a divorce from Brad Pitt, but the A-list Hollywood exes are still struggling to come to an agreement regarding child custody and finalize their split.

While there have been some recent reports that the couple had reached a final custody agreement, a source close to the proceedings told E! News that negotiations are still ongoing. Court documents show that the couple was scheduled to appear on Aug. 21 regarding their child custody plan, but that meeting has been postponed and the original temporary child custody agreement remains in place.

More: Brad Pitt Has Something to Say About Angelina Jolie's Child Support Claims

A different source told E! News that the pair's respective lawyers had been meeting about temporary child custody issues just for the next few months, but reaching middle ground had been "very time-consuming."

Originally, Jolie asked for sole custody of the children, while Pitt petitioned for joint custody. The bitter battle, however, seemed to cool over time, as the pair worked toward a solution. The former couple reportedly took a vacation together with their kids in early 2017 and hammered out a temporary schedule that allowed Pitt to spend plenty of time with his kids over the summer.

The custody agreement would involve all six of the couple's children. The kids have been splitting their time between their parents, with the kids traveling frequently with Jolie and often staying rooted in Los Angeles while they're with their dad. In August, Jolie claimed Pitt wasn't paying the correct amount of child support he was responsible for — claims Pitt, through his lawyer, refuted. But that recent dust-up is only one in a string of dust-ups that have continually delayed Jolie and Pitt from settling their divorce once and for all.

Let's hope these two can get a final permanent plan in place, because it's not only a tricky process, but at this point, it seems never-ending.

How to Teach Your Kids the True Meaning of Labor Day

These days, Labor Day is an excuse to gather family and friends together for one last summer barbecue or vacation before it's back to the hustle and bustle of another school year. However, the holiday, which dates back centuries, is about so much more than getting another day off work to sleep in and play (though, those are indeed perks!).

At its most basic, the holiday, which falls on the first Monday of September, is a celebration of the millions of workers who keep the United States (and Canada if you're north of the border) running. But the more detailed history paints a picture of how difficult working conditions were during the Industrial Revolution and why, especially now, it's vital to advocate for workers' and union rights. Here, we've laid out an easy way to talk to kids about the important federal holiday.

More: Teach Your Kids Labor Day Is More Than Just Sales — It's About Work

Teach them the history

The U.S. established Labor Day as a federal holiday in 1894 following years of social unrest between laborers and employers. While the Industrial Revolution brought many wonderful things to the nation (namely enhanced transportation, innovations like the telephone and more job opportunities), it also created a slew of problems for employees (sometimes children) who worked long, hard hours seven days a week.

After years of mistreatment, unions popped up all over the country to advocate for workers' rights, often by helping organize labor strikes and rallies. However, not every union could liberate workers from more tyrannical employers, and this sometimes led to uprisings and violence. Such was the case with the Pullman Strike of 1894. Business Insider reports the strike began after The Pullman Palace Car Company in Chicago, which made luxury rail cars, severely cut the laborers' wages and refused to improve working conditions.

Appalled, the American Railroad Union advised for businesses to boycott Pullman's products, which ultimately impacted transportation across the nation. The situation continued to worsen, and ultimately, the federal government sent troops to Chicago to restore order. As you might have guessed, the troops' presence only escalated the violence, and up to 30 people died as a result.

Soon after the strike, President Grover Cleveland declared Labor Day as a federal holiday to recognize the many sacrifices and contributions American workers make daily.

You can make this history as detailed or simplified as you'd like, depending on the age of your children.

More: Labor Day Facts & Trivia That'll Get Your Kids Up to Speed on the Holiday

Relate the past to the present

Working conditions have greatly improved in the United States since the 19th century, but we still have a long way to go before all workers are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Sadly, things are only getting worse for laborers and unions under the current administration.

In May of this year, President Donald Trump signed three executive orders that targeted federal labor unions and, therefore, hurt federal employees. Under these orders, Trump has made it more difficult for employees and union reps to file grievances or bargain for workplace changes while also making it easier for federal employers to fire workers.

While kids may not be able to fully grasp executive orders or labor unions (honestly, many of us could use a refresher), you can still communicate that workers still face issues today. To make it a positive lesson, you can explain why it's important that kids learn how to advocate for themselves at an early age.

Tell them about your job

Ever have a feeling that no one in your family truly understands what it is you do for 40 hours a week? Use this Labor Day as an excuse to bring your kids into your world by running them through your various responsibilities. Think of this as your turn for show and tell.

From there, you can take a more hands-on approach by asking kids to complete some of the tasks you're expected to do on a daily basis. Are you a writer working on a deadline? Give them a short assignment to complete in 30 to 60 minutes. Work as an office coordinator or event planner? Ask your kids for help planning the next birthday party or family gathering. And if you're a stay-at-home parent, walk them through all of the tasks you do to keep the house and family operating smoothly. (Bonus: This is also an ideal time to enlist their help with the household chores!)

Teach them about other career options

Let's face it; not every kid is going to want to follow in her parents' footsteps. And that's totally OK! Teach your little ones about the huge variety of career options by reading books about different jobs.

Some ideas include:

You can also schedule kid-friendly visits to the local veterinarian office or fire station. Sometimes, these groups even host special days where kids can come and ask questions. For older kids, you can start talking about which kinds of internships and after-school work or volunteer opportunities interest them most.

Labor Day crafts & games

Bust out the glitter glue and have a little fun with Labor Day-appropriate crafts. Kids can make thank-you cards for people they see on a regular basis (the mailman, the barista at your favorite coffee shop, the garbage truck crew).

Or get out some magazines and have kids cut out images to make fun career vision boards.

Of course, you should also make a little time to kick back and relax this Labor Day weekend. You deserve it!

Breastfeeding May Come With Another Bonus: Lowering the Risk of Stroke

It's no secret that breastfeeding has many benefits for both the child and the person doing the nursing. In fact, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, breastfeeding can help protect infants from numerous diseases and conditions, including ear infections, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, diabetes and childhood obesity.

But breastfeeding doesn't just have a positive effect on the child. From postpartum weight loss to a decreased risk of breast and ovarian cancer, mothers also reap the benefits of breastfeeding. That said, according to a new study out of the Journal of the American Heart Association, breastfeeding may offer an additional perk: It may lower a mother's risk of having a stroke.

More: We May Finally Have a Drug to Treat Postpartum Depression

The study, conducted by the American Heart Association, analyzed data from 80,191 participants and found that those who breastfed for one to six months had their risk of a stroke decrease by 19 percent, and those who breastfed 13 months or more lowered their risk by 26 percent.

The risk was further reduced for Hispanic and Black women (at 32 percent and 48 percent, respectively).

According to Dr. Lisette T. Jacobson, lead author of the study and assistant professor in the department of preventive medicine and public health at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, while "some studies have reported that breastfeeding may reduce the rates of breast cancer, ovarian cancer and risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in mothers," this study is one of the first to highlight "the benefits of breastfeeding on heart disease and other specific cardiovascular risk factors," she said in a statement.

And this is huge, especially since strokes are the fourth-leading cause of death in the U.S. for women aged 65 and older, and the third-leading cause of death among Hispanic and Black women.

That said, the correlation between breastfeeding and a lowered stroke risk remains something of a mystery. What's more: because the study was observational, the American Heart Association was unable to establish a cause-and-effect relationship between two.

However, Dr. Sherry Ross, an OB-GYN at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, tells SheKnows that while "it was not clear what the biological mechanism was that actually accounted for a lower risk of stroke in women who breastfed for long periods of time... it is well known that women who breastfeed have a reduced risk of high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes," and these two things can lower one's risk of heart disease and stroke.

More: Women's Symptoms Are Routinely Dismissed, but Amy Ziering Is Working to Change That

So, what should a new mom do? Well, according to Jacobson, “if you are pregnant... [you should] consider breastfeeding as part of your birthing plan and continue to breastfeed for at least six months to receive the optimal benefits, for you and your infant." Of course, this isn't an option for all parents, but a nice perk for those who are able to incorporate it into their child's first months.

One little girl is celebrating a very big victory: Hadley Gray — who has been receiving chemotherapy at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis for six months — is finally going home according to Inside Edition. But before doing so, hospital staff wanted to send Hadley off in a musical and memorable way, and their performance is now going viral.

You see, just before Hadley's departure, her oncologist, Dr. Hiroto Inaba, several nurses and other staff members came into her room and sang a special "No More Chemo" song while holding balloons and a colorful card.

“Our patients have the cutest S-M-I-L-E. Our patients have the sweetest H-E-A-R-T. Oh, we love to see you every day. But now's the time we get to say, pack up your bags, get out the door, you don't get chemo anymore.”

The group then threw confetti in the air and clapped for the very happy little girl.

Hadley, a 3-year-old from Bluff City, Tennessee, received four rounds of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia according to ABC News, and while the "No More Chemo" song is a hospital tradition for all patients deemed cancer-free, Hadley's mother, Brittany Edgeworth Gray, told ABC the song made her feel special. "[T]o hear her team... singing that song to her just made it feel so real that we were finally going to be coming home."

She also told Inside Edition, “[I]t felt very surreal to have her team of doctors finally tell us — in such a fun way — that we were really going home!”

"This is my first child, so having the support of people who already have children is really nice," Rochelle Sherman told People. "There's a lot in common. We have that support system, and we can bring up everything. We're all open with each other, and it's so nice."
