Chris Pratt Looks So Happy After Church Day With Katherine Schwarzenegger’s Fam

Things seem to be getting serious between Chris Pratt and new girlfriend Katherine Schwarzenegger! Based on the couple’s extracurriculars this weekend, he’s already tight with her (other) loved ones. And winning over the family? So big. More importantly, though, Pratt couldn’t have looked happier this weekend, spending time with Schwarzenegger and her fam.

On Sunday, the couple was spotted leaving church together, after which they joined her mother, Maria Shriver, brother Patrick Schwarzenegger and other members of her family for a late lunch/early dinner. At one point, Patrick shared a video on Instagram that showed Pratt and Katherine seated at the end of the table. In the video, they can be seen (and heard) laughing at the person seated next to them.

The duo’s weekend kicked off on Friday, when Pratt was photographed beaming as he and Schwarzenegger left a late dinner with friends at the Beauty & Essex restaurant in Los Angeles. According to E! News, the pair dined on dishes like tomato soup dumplings, Thai shrimp and tuna poke and filet.

Pratt and Schwarzenegger were first linked on Father’s Day, when they attended a picnic date. Per the Inquisitr, Shriver set her daughter up with the Jurassic World star.

In recent weeks, the new loves have been spotted with Pratt’s 5-year-old son, Jack; Pratt and ex-wife Anna Faris share custody. And if you were a diehard fan of that union (weren’t we all?), don’t worry — Faris reportedly supports the relationship wholeheartedly.

“Anna is very happy with the woman Chris has chosen to be with,” a source told Hollywood Life. “It’s a great family that Katherine belongs to, and from what she has seen and knows about Katherine beyond her family, she feels great about her. To Anna, Katherine appears to be a wonderful person.”

Plus, the source says that Faris trusts Pratt’s judgment where Jack is concerned. “Anna knows Chris would never have a woman around their child that wasn’t a good person, and Anna really just wants to see the best for Chris because Anna herself has found love, so she doesn’t want to get in the way for Chris to find it himself. Anna is completely on board with Chris and his new relationship. There is no drama whatsoever!” the source said.

Sounds like all systems are go with this sweet new pair.

Laila Ali on What She Learned From Her Dad & Why She Won't Encourage Her Kids to Box

Four-time undefeated boxing champion Laila Ali knows how to keep her eyes on the prize. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been that easy: She started having vision problems at the age of 11. When she started her boxing career, she had to get corrective surgery because contact lenses were not permitted in the ring. Over the course of the next 15 years, Ali’s eyes changed, requiring her to wear contacts again.

“Our eyes are always changing, and that’s why it’s so important to get your eyes examined every year,” Ali tells SheKnows, explaining why she decided to partner with Think About Your Eyes — a national public awareness campaign about the importance of scheduling an annual eye exam with an optometrist.

Now that she's retired from the ring, Ali has been focusing on building her lifestyle brand, as well as her family, marrying former NFL player Curtis Conway and having two kids: son Curtis Jr. and daughter Sydney.

And when it comes to raising her children, Ali still relies on lessons she learned from her father — boxing legend and humanitarian Muhammad Ali.

"Compassion, integrity and self-love were really big in our household," Ali says. "My dad lived that in his life. He was a perfect example for me — not only just teaching me on a regular basis with his words but actually his acts of kindness all the time. Being a global icon, everyone loved him and he had so much power, but he used that platform and power he had in a positive way and inspired so many people. So for me it’s just a matter of really staying true to yourself, true to your own beliefs and at the same time, having tolerance and compassion for others."

After learning from her father's example, Ali wants to be the same kind of role model for her own kids.

"I feel it does start in the home," she says. "I think the parent is the first teacher, and we shouldn’t rely on anyone other than ourselves to teach our children what’s right... so that when they go out into the world, they understand that there’s going to be people who don’t look like them, act like them, have different beliefs, and that doesn’t mean that we can’t all get along. So that’s something I appreciate that I learned from my father that I’ve passed on to my children."

Another thing Ali has in common with her father? She'd prefer it if her kids didn't get into boxing (or football).

"I’m going to, of course, support my kids in anything they want to do, but I don’t encourage either of them to box or play football. My husband played in the NFL, and it’s just a very brutal sport," Ali explains. "I’m definitely not going to encourage them to be fighters, but I do know that you’ve got to support [your] kids. It’s their life. They’re going to live it — the same way I chose to box when my dad didn’t want me to but I did anyway."

Ali does recognize the benefits of encouraging her kids to participate in sports, but says she's going to steer them toward tennis, golf or baseball instead — just like her father did to her.

And among the sports, yearly eye exams, charitable work, being a lifestyle guru and being a leading voice in women's sports, Ali has learned to simultaneously manage the various aspects of their lives.

"At the very least, we’re all juggling 10 or more things," she says. "What it comes down to is putting your priorities in order and you running the day, not letting the day run you."

Ali stresses that a lot of time women don't know how to say no because we're taking care of everyone else, which sometimes can mean our own needs are neglected. But she also knows the importance of self-care and planning, like carving out time to meditate and "not putting yourself last."

"Because if you fall apart, everything else is going to fall apart," she adds, "because you know that we’re the backbone of the family and society and all of that. It's really important to take care of yourself."

Dan Stevens' Downton Abbey Photo Has Fans Hoping Matthew Will Return

There's nothing quite like when a cast reunites. On Sunday, there was a Downton Abbey mini-reunion, and it's as glorious as it sounds. Dan Stevens (who played Matthew Crawley) shared an Instagram with Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley) and Allen Leech (Tom Branson), and the photo is beyond adorable. However, thanks to Stevens' caption, fans are hoping for Matthew's return to the drama whenever the Downton Abbey movie debuts.

More: 10 Reasons Downton Abbey Continues to be the Best Show on Television

As you can see, Stevens, Dockery and Leech are all smiles. They look so happy to be back together, but what fans really need to pay attention to is Stevens' words. He wrote, "Should Matthew have a mustache for the #DowntonAbbeyMovie...? Vote below..." Um, what's that now? Is Stevens trying to tell us something? Is there a possibility for Matthew to return, or is Stevens completely joking?

Of course, Stevens could just be having some fun with his caption, but fans are crossing their fingers the highly adored Matthew will somehow show up in the movie. Warning: If you're trying to avoid Downton Abbey spoilers, don't read any further.

One fan commented on Stevens' Instagram, "...Matthew would never ever have a mustache. Also, what’s the time frame of this movie?! Before he dies? Or are there flashbacks?! So. Many. Questions."

Another fan wrote, "OMG Is this actually happening?! I’m gonna faint!! The mustache must stay!"

A different Instagram user posted, "No! But you can really pull it off. It will be interesting to see how Matthew is integrated into the movie. @thatdanstevens your joking Right!? It would be great to have you back."

Fans aren't the only ones reacting. Even Hugh Bonneville (Lord Grantham) commented by writing, "OMG OMG OM ACTUAL GEEING G. I'M SO LIKE I CAN'T EVEN."

Oh, and yes, Stevens' Beauty and the Beast costar Josh Gad responded. He wrote, "Why are you being a monster?"

Stevens replied to Gad, saying, "It's this mustache. I can't help it. #dastardly."

Also, Katie Aselton, Stevens' Legion costar, responded, "stop toying with the masses."

Who knows what Stevens means by his comment, but it's hard not to get our hopes up, especially after Matthew left the series way too soon. Yes, it was Stevens' choice, but that didn't make his exit any easier. To watch him die after falling in love with Mary and starting a family was absolutely devastating to say the least. So it would be wonderful if he could be part of the movie somehow, even via flashback.

More: Why Downton Abbey's Edith's Happy Ending Was Long Overdue

On July 13 and after much speculation, a Downton Abbey movie was confirmed. The series tweeted, "Welcome back to Downton! We’re thrilled to announce that #DowntonAbbey is coming to the big screen. Film production begins this summer." The exact timeline of the film is unclear, but according to Vanity Fair, most of the original cast is expected to return. So far, Lily James, who played Rose, is the only one who has confirmed she will not be back.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed Stevens will be featured in the movie in some way, shape or form. Even though he was only in three seasons, his character was still a huge part of the drama. To have a movie without Matthew just wouldn't feel right.

Who & What You Need to Know Before Seeing Crazy Rich Asians

$

0

We may not know how Crazy Rich Asians will do at the box office when it premieres on Wednesday, but that's not really the most important metric of how successful it will be. Instead, we should look at the film's cast and the ways in which it will be making history. Both the cast and the history the film carries on its back are indicators that Crazy Rich Asians is, against all odds, already successful.

The cast is unlike any that has been assembled in recent years: a group of Asian and Asian American actors who hail from several countries and have varying degrees of experience. They are directed by Jon M. Chu, who is primarily known for directing two Step Up sequels and a Justin Bieber documentary, and they are making a film based on the first of three novels in a series written by Kevin Kwan, whose first-ever novel was Crazy Rich Asians. To add to all of this excitement, Crazy Rich Asians is the first film since The Joy Luck Club (which was released in 1993) to feature a predominantly Asian cast and be released by a major studio.

So, let's take a look at the plot of the film (no spoilers, we promise!) and get to know some of the cast.

More: Movies We're Most Excited For in August

About Crazy Rich Asians

The film centers on Rachel Chu and her boyfriend, Nick Young. As the trailer makes clear, Nick comes from an extremely wealthy and influential family, but that hasn't come up in their relationship until Nick is invited back home to attend the wedding of his best friend, Colin Khoo. Nick sees it as the perfect opportunity to introduce Rachel to the rest of his family. Rachel, on the other hand, is slightly overwhelmed by not only the level of wealth and privilege Nick's family has but also the fact that Nick is one of the most sought-after bachelors in Singapore.

As Rachel navigates the tricky class politics and adjustment to extreme wealth that comes with Nick's family, she finds herself really reassessing whether this is right for her. There's going to be major conflict between Rachel and Nick's mother, austere matriarch Eleanor Young, and there's going to be lots of eyes on Rachel from the judgmental young women who inhabit the same glamorous circles as the Young family. Rachel's got quite an adventure ahead of her, and Crazy Rich Asians promises to be anything but smooth and comfortable.

Constance Wu

As protagonist Rachel Chu, actor Constance Wu is our portal into the lavish and exciting world of Crazy Rich Asians. Wu can also be seen on the TV show that served as her big break, ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, where she plays the very funny Jessica Huang. Some of Wu's previous notable appearances include a voice role in The Lego Ninjago Movie and Royal Pains, but she was primarily a theater actor before successfully transitioning to TV with Fresh Off the Boat.

Henry Golding

Crazy Rich Asians will be handsome British-Malaysian actor Henry Golding's first major studio film. Golding was cast after an extensive search to find the perfect actor to play Nick Young. He was primarily a television personality before being cast in the film, serving as the host of BBC's The Travel Show. Also, one look at his Instagram reveals that he's no stranger to modeling, either. But with Crazy Rich Asians set to be his big debut, he'll also be starring alongside Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in A Simple Favor and the upcoming Monsoon.

Michelle Yeoh

The ever-elegant Michelle Yeoh, set to play Nick Young's mother, Eleanor Young, has built an incredible career both in the United States and abroad, primarily in Asia. Yeoh most recently appeared in the CBS All Access show Star Trek: Discovery, but audiences may be most familiar with her role in the much-lauded Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a GeishaThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor or Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.

Ken Jeong

Ken Jeong is set to play Goh Wye Mun, father of Goh Peik Lin, Rachel's best friend. Jeong, a former doctor who later turned to comedy, should be instantly recognizable to folks everywhere as he's been in the mainstream consciousness for the better part of a decade. After his long-running role on the hit comedy series Community, Jeong became internationally recognizable as Mr. Chow in the Hangover movies.

Awkwafina

2018 has been a big year for Queens-born rapper and comedian Awkwafina, set to play Goh Peik Lin. While Awkwafina has made a name for herself with her brash, cheeky, feminist rap anthems (like the very fun "Pockiez"), she's been slowly transitioning into acting. Earlier in the summer of 2018, she appeared in the all-female Ocean's 8; before that, she was in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and the sci-fi comedy Future Man on Hulu.

Gemma Chan

Gemma Chan, who will be playing Astrid Leong, is a British-born former model who has successfully transitioned into film and television acting. Her biggest roles to date (aside from Crazy Rich Asians) were on the UK television show Humans and in Transformers: The Last Knight. It looks like Chan is truly about to break big, as she is also set to appear in the eagerly anticipated Mary Queen of Scots, alongside Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie, and Captain Marvel, which stars Brie Larson.

Nico Santos

Nico Santos is set to play Oliver T'sien, Nick's cousin, who works at Christie's in London and is known to stir the pot when it comes to family drama. Santos has been slowly gaining more and more visibility in recent years, with his big breakout role as Mateo Liwang on NBC's Superstore. His comedic timing is impeccable, and he has a knack for making an average character seem larger than life.

Per E! News, Perry is in Australia on her own tour, which explains why she showed up on Pink's proverbial doorstep on Saturday. Perry's set to perform later this week at the same arena where Pink made her incredible comeback.

But she wasn't the only one who went to see Pink do her trademark high-flying moves. Australian actor Hugh Jackman was also in the crowd on Saturday, and he shared a photo of himself with the singer from backstage after the show.

"The amazing [Pink]. One of the best concerts I have ever seen! And, she's been sick all week. Inspiring," Jackman wrote in his post. Pink took to Instagram to clarify the situation, explaining that the break was prescheduled, and her show cancellation was due to illness.

Of course, this isn't the first time rumors about Franklin's health have swirled. In 2017, a very real-looking Twitter account — complete with the handle @ArethaFranklin — tweeted news about the Queen of Soul's death, and in 2010, it was reported that Franklin had been diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer, though the singer denies these claims to this day.

"I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from," Franklin told Access Hollywood. "I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody."

Franklin — who rose to stardom in the '70s and '80s — may be best known for “Chain of Fools,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "I Knew You Were Waiting (for Me)" and “Respect”; however, over the course of her lifetime, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer won 18 Grammy Awards, a lifetime achievement award and a Grammy Legend Award. She was also inducted into the U.K. Music Hall of Fame, the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame and, on Nov. 2, 2005, Franklin received the Presidential Medal of Freedom

What’s more: Franklin has sold more than 75 million records.

That said, in 2017, Franklin announced she would be retiring not from singing but from full-on touring and public appearances. Her last performance was in New York on Nov. 2, 2017, for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Numerous celebrities have been offering their thoughts, well wishes and support.

5 Women’s Health Issues No One Talks About, But Really Should

$

When it comes to our sexual health, it's time we speak up — especially regarding any sexual health issues we seemingly never talk about.

Our sexual health matters, and problems won't go away just because we keep our mouths shut. We talked with New York OB/GYN and co-author of V is for Vagina Dr. Alyssa Dweck about the most embarrassing problems women experience. Here's what she said about the health issues no one talks about.

More: Sexual Health in Your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s & Beyond

I think I forgot a tampon inside…

As masters of multi-tasking, women are busy — and because we tend to overload our daily agendas, some things do fall through the cracks (or get stuck, in this case).

"A retained tampon will be noticed soon enough since it typically causes a horrible odor and perhaps some mild discomfort — this in and of itself is really embarrassing to most," Dr. Dweck says.

Solution: Try to safely get it out. "If you can't retrieve it yourself, you will need to see your gynecologist," says the women's health expert. "If left in for too long, you could develop a vaginal infection or, though rare, toxic shock syndrome."

My diaphragm is stuck…

So you just had sex, and then it happens: You can't retrieve your diaphragm. Dr. Dweck says, "Women are mortified to come clean with this problem because they often panic and show up in the ER for this issue after sex."

The doctor has also seen women get in a panic and hurt themselves. "I have seen a couple of vaginal tears from those women with long nails who aggressively attempt diaphragm removal on their own," she says.

Solution: You may need to put your panic aside and try to remove it when you aren't riddled with anxiety, and you may have to see your gynecologist. "Typically there is no danger at all, and the gynecologist will just remove the diaphragm without issue," Dr. Dweck says.

I leak a little urine when I sneeze…

Do you suffer from a weak bladder? "This is an underreported issue and women are really hesitant to bring it up due to shame and embarrassment," Dr. Dweck says. "Typically, urinary stress incontinence is more common in women who have had multiple vaginal deliveries (especially when women have had big babies or instrumented deliveries), women who are overweight and women with a family history of stress incontinence."

Solution: Dr. Dweck recommends talking to your doctor because there are things you can do at home and medical treatments that can help you put an end to leaking. She explains, "Simple fixes involve regular Kegel exercises, avoidance of caffeine, timed voiding (so you don't wait to pee until your bladder is really full), always emptying the bladder prior to exercise and sex. Surgery is also available in some cases."

More: 5 Natural Ways to Deal with Urinary Incontinence

Some fluid squirted out of me during sex...

This is one of the more embarrassing issues for some women because it seems abnormal. According to Dr. Dweck, some women on some occasions will actually ejaculate a notable amount of fluid during sex and orgasm, and occasionally women will leak a small amount of urine during vigorous sex.

Solution: If either of these issues happens to you, do not be alarmed. "Female ejaculation is not dangerous, and I reassure women that treatment is not needed," Dr. Dweck says. Urinary leakage during sex is also avoidable by emptying your bladder prior to sex.

I have a horrible odor after sex, and my partner notices…

Our bodies naturally have odors, but when the smell is strong enough to get noticed, pay attention. "It's possible that you have an imbalance of the normal bacterial balance in the vagina called BV, or bacterial vaginosis," Dr. Dweck says. "Women with BV may also have a grayish malodorous vaginal discharge."

Solution: Dr. Dweck stresses that this should be checked by your gynecologist. "It is easily treated with oral or vaginal antibiotics," she assures. "Other ways to prevent BV include taking a probiotic or eating yogurt with live cultures daily, using condoms and avoiding douching."

The bar also hosts The Office trivia nights, karaoke nights, an Olympics events (maybe they'll include flonkerton?) and will even host a Dundies night, with one very special guest: Chili's.

Chili's posted on Twitter saying they'll bring Chili's to Replay's Dundies event if they get 31,564 retweets. Why that number, you ask?

The Dundie Awards takes place on Friday at 7 p.m., and tickets are priced at $20 for standing room and $40 for reserved seating. The tickets get you two drinks, a keepsake glass and a commemorative T-shirt.

If you aren't in the Chicago area, no worries — Chili's will be live-streaming the awards on Friday after 7 p.m. CT. You don't need a password to get in, but if there was one, "password" is a good bet.

So order some Alfredo's Pizza Cafe (not Pizza by Alfredo — there's a very big difference between these two pizza places, both in quality of ingredients and overall taste), and clear your calendar for the Dundies. It'll leave you satisfied and smiling.

Jason & Brittany Aldean Threw the Sweetest Gender-Reveal Party

On July 10, country star Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany Kerr Aldean, announced they are expecting their second child together. On Sunday, Aldean took to Instagram to reveal the expected sex of their second baby with a video that's especially sweet.

More: Roll Call: Celebrity Babies of 2017

As reported by People, Aldean's video starts with Kerr Aldean asking his daughters from a previous marriage whether they think their new sibling will be a boy or a girl. Both Kendyl, 10, and Keeley, 15, voted girl. The former's logic? Because Aldean and Kerr Aldean's first child, Memphis, is a boy.

"I'm going to go with girl just because you've been a little bit sicker with this one than with Memphis," Keeley said. When Aldean asked Memphis for a vote, the baby simply grunted and reached for the camera.

“Jason and I already know what it is, so this is just for the girls, to see their excitement,” Kerr Aldean said in the video.

For the reveal itself, Aldean and Kerr Aldean pitched powder-filled baseballs for Kendyl and Keeley to bat. When Keeley's bat made contact, the ball exploded into pink powder, revealing the sex of the new baby. It's a girl!

Aldean previously told People that after Kerr Aldean gave birth to Memphis in December 2017, the couple decided to undergo IVF again for their second child so that she and Memphis could be close in age. The couple sought IVF after Kerr Aldean was diagnosed with endometriosis during the yearlong attempt to conceive.

“After having our son, we knew we wanted to have two kids,” Aldean said. “I have my two older daughters already, so after Memphis was born we knew we wanted to have another one pretty quick — to go ahead and knock it out and have one that was a little closer in age to him.”

He added, “I would much rather knock it out now while we’re used to having one in diapers and formula and all of that. I think it’s tougher when you get out of that and wait a couple years and then have to go redo it all. … We just wanted them to be close in age, and we figured we’re already in that mindset now, so why not?”

All the New Original Programming Coming to Hulu

Hulu has been delivering incredible original series, including The Handmaid's Tale and Casual, that have received critical and award-show attention. Now the streaming network is ramping up its slate of original shows over the next two years.

More: Everything You Can Expect to See in The Handmaid's Tale Season 3

Netflix may have garnered more publicity about its upcoming movies and series, but if Hulu is as successful with these new shows as it has been so far, it might give Netflix a run for its money. We compiled a list of upcoming Hulu shows you shouldn't sleep on.

Safe Harbour

Safe Harbour, a psychological drama, is being labeled a Hulu original series even though it originated in Australia. The compelling four-part drama follows five Australians on a yachting holiday who encounter asylum seekers on a fishing boat in distress. They tie the boats together for a rescue, but someone cuts the rope in the night and the fishing boat is gone in the morning.

What happens next is a five-year-long mystery of who cut the rope, the consequences of that action and how justice and revenge are sometimes intertwined. This timely series drops on Hulu on Aug. 24.

The First

This space-program drama, coming Sept. 14, has an all-star cast including Sean Penn, Natascha McElhone, Melissa George, LisaGay Hamilton and Keiko Agena. A crew of astronauts is working on becoming the first humans to visit Mars. Their mission is more difficult than it appears because it involves incredible personal sacrifice, in addition to the dangers on the job. The First will have eight episodes in its first season.

In the Dark

This horror anthology series has a fascinating concept: Hulu will be releasing one episode a month to coincide with a holiday celebrated in the month it is released. The series is created by the horror geniuses at Blumhouse Productions, who have given us thrillers like Get Out and the upcoming reboot of Halloween.

The first episode is based on Halloween and stars Tom Bateman, Rebecca Rittenhouse and Aurora Perrineau. The second episode airs in November and focuses on Thanksgiving. Dermont Mulroney, Dana Silver and Tembi Locke star in the November show.

Season 1 debuts on Oct. 5 and will have 12 episodes in total. However, it will take a year to watch the full first season, which will wrap in October 2019.

More: Every TV Show That's Been Canceled in 2018 — So Far

The First and In the Dark are Hulu's big entries for the fall, but the network has a huge slate of shows currently in development. We're keeping our eyes on a few that we think will have tons of buzz once they're in production.

The House of the Spirits

The House of the Spirits project was announced in May. Hulu is hoping to take the 1982 best-selling novel by Isabel Allende and turn it into a successful series.

The story follows three generations of the Trueba family through all of their joys and tragedies. It's already had a 1993 film adaptation starring Jeremy Irons, Meryl Streep, Winona Ryder, Glenn Close and Antonio Banderas, so this project really excites us.

Invisible Man

This 1952 Ralph Ellison novel is a highly regarded classic in American literature. Hulu is planning on developing this into a series; if done well, it could have a cultural and political impact.

The story follows a black man who feels like he is invisible to society because of the color of his skin. His journey starts in the South and eventually takes him to New York City. Hulu has had tremendous success with adapting The Handmaid's Tale from a novel to a series, so Invisible Man could be a major winner for the network if the show comes to fruition.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Four Weddings and a Funeral, based on the 1994 British film, is getting the anthology series treatment from Hulu. While the cast has yet to be announced, the show is produced by Mindy Kaling and is officially heading into production once the actors are in place.

The series will follow the same storyline as the film: A group of friends share mundane moments together while attending monumental life events. A premiere date has not been set.

Hulu is definitely delivering a strong slate of shows to compete with Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime. Which shows are you most looking forward to watching?

Lindsay Lohan Is Apologizing for Her ‘Hurtful’ #MeToo Remark

After her Aug. 4 interview with The Sunday Times was published, Lindsay Lohan faced a wave of backlash for her comments about the #MeToo movement, which went viral shortly after movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was accused by multiple women of sexual assault last October. Now, Lohan has apologized for her comments in an exclusive statement to People while also seeking to clarify what she said.

More: #MeToo Founder Tarana Burke on What's Next for the Movement

When she was interviewed by the Times, Lohan reportedly commented, "If it happens at that moment, you discuss it at that moment. You make it a real thing by making it a police report. I’m going to really hate myself for saying this, but I think by women speaking against all these things, it makes them look weak when they are very strong women. You have these girls who come out, who don’t even know who they are, who do it for the attention. That is taking away from the fact that it happened.”

She also told the outlet that despite having been in Hollywood since she was just 12 years old, Lohan has never had a #MeToo moment of her own. “So, I don’t really have anything to say. I can’t speak on something I didn’t live, right?" she said. "Look, I am very supportive of women. Everyone goes through their own experiences in their own ways.” She then added that she can't support "attention-seekers" and that she doesn't agree with "trial by social media."

Now, in her statement to People, Lohan said, “I would like to unreservedly apologize for any hurt and distress caused by a quote in a recent interview with The Times,” adding, “the quote solely related to my hope that a handful of false testimonies out of a tsunami of heroic voices do not serve to dilute the importance of the #MeToo movement, and all of us who champion it. However, I have since learned how statements like mine are seen as hurtful, which was never my intent. I’m sorry for any pain I may have caused.”

Lohan went on to voice her support for the #MeToo movement and the women who have come forward with their stories. “I feel very strongly about the #MeToo movement and have the utmost respect and admiration for the women brave enough to come forward and speak out about their experiences," she told People. "Their testimony has served to protect those who can’t speak, and give strength to those who have struggled to have their voices heard.”

Lohan is not the first to bring up "false testimonies" over purported concern about the effects of the #MeToo movement. Lena Dunham faced backlash last November when she supported a Girls writer who was accused of rape; she then walked back her statement of support. In a similarly problematic vein, Kathie Lee Gifford drew attention in March when she revealed during an interview on Andy Cohen's SiriusXM show that she had reached out to both Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein to offer them support as their respective issues with alleged sexual assault and rape emerged in the press.

Fortune reports that, per a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center in April, 31 percent of the 6,251 adults surveyed thought that women making false claims of sexual harassment or assault was a "major problem in the workplace." Meanwhile, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network reports that every 98 seconds, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted. One of every 6 American women has been the victim of attempted or completed rape in her lifetime, but 994 out of every 1,000 perpetrators of sexual violence who goes through the criminal justice system will walk free.

More: Guess Who Thinks He Should Be the "Poster Boy" for the #MeToo Movement?

It's good that Lohan took the time to rethink what she said and to apologize for any hurt she may have caused, especially because pointing to "false accusations" as a reason for scaling back a movement like #MeToo — which is long overdue — ultimately damages the cause. Rape culture conditions people to believe that victims are lying or are somehow responsible for their own assaults, and none of us are immune to that conditioning.

The Mom's Guide to Washington, DC

Disastrous 2018 politics aside, when you drive along the sprawling, manicured lawns of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., you can’t help but feel a sense of awe. And D.C.'s history is just the beginning, since new developments — like The Wharf, which offers sweeping views of the Potomac — seem constant there. And for parents, the city’s 60-plus square miles have innumerable options for letting kids run around and burn off energy. From “spraygrounds” for cooling off on hot days to interactive plays and performances, parents and kids alike discover new thrills throughout the nation’s capital.

Where to stay

InterContinental Washington, D.C. opened in the fall of 2017 on The Wharf, Washington, D.C.’s new $2.5 billion mixed-use waterfront community stretching over a mile along the Potomac River and home to shops, restaurants and events as well as the oldest continuously operating fish market in the U.S. It has 278 rooms with views of the Potomac River, spa-inspired bathrooms and sprawling public spaces designed after the flowing water of the Potomac. Give the kids an opportunity for pillow fights with conjoining rooms suitable for large families, like the Knot suite, which joins to a king deluxe room, offers plenty of common space and sleeps a family of about six. Making its debut this summer, the hotel will also offer a rooftop pool and rose garden.

Where to Stay

Waterfront time

The Wharf waterfront development took 22 different architects to create its scenic skyline along the Potomac River. Take part in the many activities available in this 1-mile stretch, including the Recreation Pier, where you can rent kayaks, swing on the relaxing wooden swings that line the pier and enjoy an ice cream cone while watching your kids rock to and fro on the colorful plastic rocking horses. On hot days, you can suit up with the little ones and watch them run around in the “sprayground” water fountain. Conveniently located on the boardwalk is a free five-minute jitney (a boat taxi) to East Potomac Park. Take a break at the Watering Hole, where you can sip beer and wine on the edge of the marina while your kids enjoy the open-air setup.

Where to Stay

Where to eat

Kith/Kin, led by all-the-rave D.C. chef Kwame Onwuachi, offers kid-friendly selections like chicken fingers, fries and spaghetti upon request. A few steps away at the end of the block, you can order fresh steamed crabs at the oldest continually operating fish market (200 years old) at the District Wharf. Kids will have fun cracking the freshly steamed shells in the new outdoor public seating.

After spending a bit of time in the new National Museum of African American History and Culture, have lunch at the Sweet Home Café — the family menu includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs and french fries. Parents can dine on the café’s delicious Southern food with sophisticated offerings from Gullah-style Hoppin' John (a traditional New Year’s Day lunch dish in the American South) and gulf shrimp and stone-ground grits.

Also, Zaytinya, José Andrés’ light-filled Mediterranean restaurant, turns out puffs of hot pita and has loads of kid-friendly dips. Jaleo, another José Andrés restaurant, has two tables that are also foosball tables for people who want to play with their food.

Another way to combine eating and games is to visit Comet Ping Pong, which has amazing pizza and unlimited ping-pong, or Pinstripes in Georgetown, which offers a side of boccie and bowling with Italian food favorites.

Cool down with grown-up handmade ice cream, like Thai ice tea and kid favorites like cookies and cookie dough at Ice Cream Jubilee.

Visit the museums

To combine history and playtime, take the kids to the National Museum of Natural History, where Q?rius gives tweens and teens the opportunity to not only meet a scientist but use microscopes, handle some of the 6,000 objects in their collection, solve science puzzles and enjoy touch screen activities while parents tour some of the more sophisticated exhibits. While you're there, take advantage of the only indoor playground on the National Mall called Wegman’s Wonderplace, created for kids six and younger at the National Museum of American History. There, they can run around and touch wheels and boats, climb (and practice balance) on small stairs and peer through colorful windows.

Then, there's the National Gallery of Art, which has a free kids activity guide with tips and interesting information, like how to travel the French countryside with en plein air ("in the open air") painters, and more interactive options, like a playful competition between you and your kids in drawing a renaissance self-portrait.

Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center has a free performance daily at 6 p.m., and it's always family-friendly with the rare exception of stand-up comedy once or twice a year.

There are also kid-friendly performances at Atlas Arts Performing Arts Center, like the recent guest Mons Dansa from Barcelona, Spain, who's playful movement-based performance was perfect for ages 1 to 5 — a fun, interactive production that tells the story of two creatures who live inside a wastepaper basket.

After you view the performance, hop on the free streetcar to take you to nearby H Street Northeast, where you can window browse for clothing or grab an ice cream from a food truck.

At D.C.’s food markets, you can pick up fresh fish and produce and then pop in for one of Union Market or Eastern Market’s regularly storytelling sessions.

There's No End in Sight Over the Drama With Meghan Markle's Dad

It would seem that months after the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan (née Markle), officially married into the royal family in May, her father, Thomas Markle, still hasn't gotten the message that he really shouldn't be giving candid interviews with the press or talking to paparazzi about events that transpired shortly before the wedding and/or his perceptions of Meghan in her new royal role. Now, in a fresh wave of public honesty, Markle is choosing to go after his son-in-law, Prince Harry.

According to the Daily Mail, after Meghan and Prince Harry started seeing each other, her father had several phone chats with his daughter's then-fiancé, Harry. Among their conversations, Markle told the outlet the two men discussed what to do when the romance went public.

"Harry told me that I should never go to the press. That it would end in tears. He said, 'They will eat you alive,'" Markle told the Daily Mail. He added, "He was right."

The Daily Mail reports that Markle regrets posing for staged paparazzi photos that were released ahead of the royal wedding, causing a massive scandal. He told the outlet that after the photos appeared, Prince Harry called to inquire about the nature of the photos.

Markle claims he lied to Harry, saying he "was being measured for a hoodie," and then he hung up. He heard from his daughter and her then-fiancé again when he was in the hospital following a heart attack.

Markle told the Daily Mail that when he spoke with the couple at that point, he said, "Maybe it would be better for you guys if I was dead… then you could pretend to be sad." He added, "Then I hung up." Again.

Now, after months of ongoing drama, Markle told the Daily Mail, "I’m not mad at Harry. I’m not mad at Meghan. I love them. I wish them well. But as for the rest of it, fuck it. I’m done."

We're not entirely sure what to make of this new interview or Markle's comments that he's "done." Reportedly, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not spoken directly to Markle since before their May 29 nuptials, nor has Kensington Palace made any official statements on the continuing Markle family drama. Perhaps Markle is burning out on the media attention, or perhaps he thinks this will help him make amends with his daughter. Either way, we hope to see an end to this story soon so everyone can just move on.

FDA Approves First Long-Term Contraceptive Ring

On Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Annovera, which the organization states is “the first vaginal ring contraceptive that can be used for an entire year.”

The ring, developed by the global nonprofit research organization the Population Council, is soft, flexible and nonbiodegradable. It works much like other rings on the market, i.e., it is placed inside the vagina, where it releases hormones like progestin and estrogen. However, what sets Annovera apart from other vaginal birth control devices is its lifespan: Annovera can be reinserted after the “withdrawal” week, making it reusable.

More: How IUDs Go Beyond Birth Control to Possibly Prevent Cervical Cancer

The FDA release explained that Annovera is “placed in the vagina for three weeks followed by one week out of the vagina, at which time women may experience a period (a withdrawal bleed). This schedule is [then] repeated every four weeks for one year (thirteen 28-day menstrual cycles).”

Another key feature of Annovera is how it is stored when it is not in use. According to the Population Council, the product "does not require refrigeration, which is particularly important for distribution and use in low-resource settings.” What's more, Annovera does not require a monthly trip to the pharmacy (or a monthly prescription from your doctor) — making it a more economical and convenient choice.

That said, as with other many other forms of birth control, there are some people who should avoid using Annovera — for example, steer clear if you have (or have had) certain medical conditions like tumors, breast cancer and/or abnormal uterine bleeding. You should also avoid this product if you’re a smoker and over the age of 35 and, according to the FDA, everyone should be mindful that taking Annovera can cause numerous side effects or symptoms, including headache/migraine, nausea/vomiting, yeast infections, abdominal pain, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), breast tenderness, irregular bleeding, diarrhea and genital itching.

Annovera will be available for purchase in 2019 or 2020.

How Often Should You Be Washing These 13 Items?

$

You may let your laundry linger in the hamper on occasion but, hey, you get around to it eventually. We all do, right? But as accomplished as one feels after laundry day, washing clothes isn't exactly a one-size-fits-all science. Are you washing your towels enough? Are you washing your bras too much? Certain items simply don't fall in line with a "toss it all in every time" approach.

For starters, over-laundering can dramatically shorten the lifespan of certain items. When those items are pricy, like upscale lingerie or Egyptian cotton sheet sets, routine replacements can get costly. On the other hand, not washing enough can lead to pretty undesirable outcomes too — namely bacteria growth.

Robin Wright Got Married in Secret (Sorta) Over the Weekend

Well, well, well, what do we have here? A surprise, low-key celebrity wedding involving Robin Wright, one of our current favorite stars on the hit Netflix series House of Cards, and her handsome, enigmatic French beau. That sure sounds exciting, don't you think?

More: All the Celebrity Couples Who Recently Said I Do

According to E! News, it looks like Wright has officially gotten married for the third time (she was previously engaged for a short time to actor Ben Foster and before that was married to actors Sean Penn and Dane Witherspoon). Her new hubby is Saint Laurent VIP relations manager Clement Giraudet. The couple was married in France, and it appears that they had the wedding reception in an undisclosed location somewhere in La Roche-sur-le-Buis, France, where the wedding also may or may not having taken place.

We know that bit of information about the reception because Wright's daughter, Dylan Penn, posted a very joyful bit of video from the wedding to Instagram and didn't seem as focused as her mom on making sure the wedding stayed a secret from the public. Additionally, Penn tagged the La Roche location in the post, further alerting the world to the wedding reception's whereabouts. Captioned, "Weddin' vibes," the video shows Penn and a collection of happy guests drinking, smoking, and dancing to a rendition of "Bamboleo" as played on some rather boisterous guitars. Neither Wright nor Giraudet are spotted in the video, nor have they officially confirmed their nuptials to the press. It's also unclear when the couple got engaged (if they indeed officially got engaged) or how long they'd been planning the wedding.

Wright has been relatively quiet on the topic of Giraudet. Since they got together in late 2017, when she was spotted with him in the stands of a soccer match, we've only heard of their relationship through reports — like the one made by People magazine specifically about Giraudet in December 2017 — and photos like ones taken at the aforementioned soccer game. According to an insider who spoke to People back in December, Giraudet is " handsome, charming and athletic" and has been frequently traveling with Wright to luxurious locations like Squaw Valley ski resort in Tahoe City, California.

Jessie James Decker Mom-Shamed for Drinking While Breastfeeding

Country musician Jessie James Decker is a busy mom with three small kids; her newest bub, a boy named Forrest, is particularly cute (a fact we know because his mom posts plenty of pics on Instagram). And yet, a recent photo of said cute bub brought out quite the indignant comments — from people who think breastfeeding moms should never drink alcohol.

It doesn't take much for the whole mom-shame gang to come out in full force these days, especially when it comes to a celebrity doing, well, basically anything with their kids. This particular photo was no different. In it, Decker chills out with a glass of wine while nursing her little guy. Of course, this prompted a hearty comment-area fight between those who say alcohol should never, ever be consumed by nursing moms and those who feel a glass or two on occasion is fine.

More: Do You Really Have to "Pump & Dump"?

The comments ranged in tone, and some were pretty cringeworthy (for example, the following: "alcoholic mom = alcoholic baby. Good luck. Put down the bottle for a few months. Look at me look at me I have a boob and a baby" and "Typical! Breast feeding while drinking ??. Cheers little boy, poor baby! Lady you realize that alcohol does affect your baby negatively.").

But it wasn't all doom and gloom and hellish judgment; comments like, "Bravo !!! You enjoy motherhood and you both look fabulous !!!" show some support. And another commenter said, "If she is drinking a glass of wine while bf that’s the best time to do it. You [don't] just have a drink and it automatically goes into your breast milk."

In addition to the breastfeeding-and-wine comments, there were quite a few sad individuals who focused on the sweet nursing pic — because breastfeeding boobs are, you know, to remain sight unseen. Oy.

Not all hope is lost, however, as one comment reads, "You inspire me. Starting to feel more confident to breastfeed in public because of you. Thank you @jessiejamesdecker."

Keep plugging along, Jessie, and keep posting pics — we're here for it.

Erika Christensen Had a Surprise Home Birth — Oh, & Dad Delivered the Kid

Babies tend to have their own timeline of arrival. This we know. Sometimes, they show up unexpectedly early — or labor goes so fast they just pop out at home for fun with no doctor or midwife present. Parenthood's Erika Christensen and her husband found this out over the weekend, as their second baby decided to make her arrival in a hurry — and dear ol' Dad had to deliver her.

It's no secret that sometimes (but definitely not always) moms on their second or subsequent pregnancies experience faster labor and rapid deliveries. Christensen posted on Instagram that she, like many surprised moms, didn't expect her labor to go so quickly, and she didn't phone her doctor until it was far too late.

Thankfully, dad Cole Maness was right there by her side and delivered their baby girl all by himself. Christensen's mom and doctor arrived at their home about a minute after the delivery, and her mother snapped this incredible picture of the ecstatic parents with their brand-new, straight-out-of-the-package-fresh baby girl.

The happy parents named their little cherub Polly and estimated her weight at around 7 pounds, 8 ounces (because, of course, the doc was in such a huge rush, he forgot the baby scale on his way out the door). She joins big sister Shane at home, and her mom says baby Polly is chubby-cheeked, rosy and beautiful.

While it's not completely unusual for dads to deliver their own children, often it's in a hospital or birthing center... and of course, it's usually planned in advance as part of a birth plan. Polly, apparently, was more interested in writing her own birth plan, and more power to her.

7 Things You Should Never Say to a Woman Recovering From Childbirth

$

0

Childbirth is one of the most monumental events of a woman’s life. It's physically, emotionally and mentally exhausting even under the best of circumstances. And when it’s over, the work doesn’t end there, of course. In fact, the work of parenting has only just begun, and with it an even more exhausting, challenging, and life-altering phase: life with a new baby.

Although a postpartum mom may feel more battered and exhausted than she ever has in her life, there is zero time to quietly rest and recover because now she must care for her new baby. If she is a first-time mom, her life will change in ways she never imagined. Even if she has other children, she will still go through a transition period with her new family — and will still have the difficult job of recovering from childbirth.

More: Public Breastfeeding Is Now Protected in All 50 States, but Not Everyone Is Convinced

If you have the privilege of visiting a new mom in the early weeks and months after she gives birth, know that your words and actions can have an impact on her more than you realize. Not only is she dealing with major life changes, but her hormones are all over the place. It’s a perfect storm only those who have been there understand.

Your job is simple: Don’t make things harder for her. Don’t say anything that will leave her feeling frustrated, worried or angry. Be kind — and take note of these seven things you should never say to a woman who's recovering from childbirth.

1. Something negative about the way she gave birth

Maybe she had the birth of her dreams or maybe she learned the hard way that even the best birth plans can go awry. Either way, don’t pass judgment on the way she gave birth.

Moreover, if she makes any comments that sound like she is beating herself up over the way things went, make sure you tell her she’s a rock star. She may not realize it, but she needs to hear it.

2. A judgment about how she feeds her baby

Emotions will run high early on as a woman navigates how best to feed her child. Maybe she’ll breastfeed. Maybe she’ll formula feed. Maybe she’ll do a little of both, and maybe it will be even more complicated than that.

A new mom can become wracked with guilt if her initial feeding plans don’t work out.

You don’t know the reasons behind why a woman feeds her baby a certain way, and unless she voluntarily tells you, it’s not your business to know. This is also not the time to get preachy about feeding styles and which is best — so don’t even think about commenting on it.

More: 3 Crucial Ways to Teach Your Daughter Not to Fear Failure

3. A brag about how quickly you bounced back after birth

Having a baby completely changes a woman’s body. Some women do “bounce back” right away, but many don’t. For a lot of us, it takes a while, and it’s usually the last thing on a woman’s mind as she recovers from childbirth.

The first weeks and months postpartum are an incredibly vulnerable time, and playing the comparison game can be devastating. So don’t give a new mom a reason to feel she’s failed in some way. If you left the hospital in your pre-baby jeans, that’s great — but don’t tell her that. Have some empathy and save the story for another time.

4. Something about her “hogging” her baby

New mothers — especially first-time mothers — can be extremely overprotective of their babies. They worry about germs, whether their babies are eating enough, whether they feel loved, whether they are bonding well enough and on and on.

If you visit a new mom (first-time or otherwise), and she lets you hold her baby, don’t act put out if she asks for the baby back. Don’t say, “You get to hold the baby all the time” or call her a baby hog. That baby may be outside of her body, but it is still deeply tied to her.

During those first weeks after birth, that new mom is acting on raw instinct. Any perceived threat to her baby is incredibly distressing, and that includes refusing to hand the baby back when she asks. Don’t give her a reason to go into beast mode, and don’t cause her undue stress.

5. Anything about work

If she’s on maternity leave, don’t bother her with work problems. Don’t even share the latest office gossip unless she asks to hear it, and don’t make her think about when she’ll be returning. For many women, that date looms overhead like an impending storm. Just let her rest and save the drama for another day.

6. How hungry/thirsty/tired you are

However hungry you are, she’s hungrier. Same goes for thirst, and don’t even get me started on how tired she is. She’s exhausted — probably more than she ever has been in her life. So keep your complaints about your own discomfort out of earshot, and for the love of all that is holy, don’t expect her to cook or clean in anticipation of your visit.

7. Any comment on her appearance (except to say, “You look amazing")

A woman will never, ever look as ragged or feel as vulnerable as she does when she is recovering from childbirth. No matter how she gave birth, her body is likely thrashed. She feels like she ran a marathon and then got hit by a car.

She hasn’t slept in days, weeks and months. She’s maybe resting two hours a night, and it shows. None of her clothes fit. She feels lumpy and weird. It’s like the feeling of being an awkward 12-year-old multiplied a thousand times over.

Don’t ask when or how she plans to lose the baby weight. Don’t tell her about the miracle detox you did after your baby was born. Don’t suggest a facial serum. Don’t say anything except, “You look amazing.” Tell her she looks great and that you can’t even tell she just had a baby. Tell her she looks beautiful and rested. She will likely weep tears of joy and appreciation. Ask me how I know.

If any of this sounds unreasonable, I can assure you it is not. It is humane and kind, and it's the very least you can do for someone you care about and who cares about you enough to let you into her world while she is recovering from the huge task of childbirth.

Your Complete Guide to Caring for a Cast-Iron Pan

$
0
0

There's a reason people wax poetic about the magic of their grandparents' cast-iron skillet. Unlike other pans, cast iron just seems to get better over time, layers and layers of seasoning building up until everything from pork chops to skillet cobbler cooks up in it like a dream. But caring for your favorite pan can be confusing. There's a lot of information out there that can honestly make having a cast-iron skillet seem like more trouble than it's worth, but we promise you it's not hard at all. Use this guide, and you'll be serving up perfectly seared steaks and cheesy skillet potatoes in no time.

1. How to pick a cast-iron pan

Cast iron is extremely resilient. If you're buying vintage cast iron, look for a pan that doesn't have any pitting or gouges in the surface of the metal. If the pan is rusted, you'll need to get the rust off (either by scrubbing it with coarse salt or gently using steel wool) and reseason it. Any new cast-iron pan is fine, but be aware that even a pan that claims to be preseasoned will need to be properly seasoned at home.

More: In a Pickle: What to Do if Your Cast-Iron Pan Rusts

2. How to season your cast-iron pan

When you season your cast-iron pan, a special magic happens. The magic of... chemistry! When the oil you slick over the cast iron's surface is heated, it polymerizes, meaning that the oil actually bonds with the surface of the metal rather than just sitting above it. This is what creates the durable "seasoning" layer that makes cast iron so resilient and mostly nonstick — not as nonstick as Teflon, but nonstick enough that as long as your pan is well-seasoned and preheated, you should be able to cook almost anything in it.

Seasoning your pan is simple. Heat it up on the stove over high heat. Then, swipe it with a layer of neutral oil (think canola, not olive), and let it cool down. Repeat this process two to three times, and your pan should be seasoned to perfection. You should do this seasoning step once after every time you use your pan.

To keep building up the seasoning, try making bacon or frying up some of your favorite foods the first few times you use your pan. This will help continue to build the nonstick layer, which will save you from heartache down the road.

3. How to wash your cast-iron pans

Don't soak your pan in the sink. Wait until the pan is warm enough to handle, and wash it then. You can use mild dish soap on your pan (again, since the seasoning is actually polymerized and not a surface oil, it should be fine after coming into contact with soap), but if you want to be really safe, just use warm water and a gentle scrub sponge or stiff dishwashing brush. Wipe the pan dry as soon as you're done cleaning it and reseason.

4. Getting rid of stubborn stains

If you have a really stubborn, stuck-on stain on your pan, there are two things you can do. First, boil some water in the pan. This should loosen and soften the stuck-on food. Once the pan is warm enough to handle safely, scrub it with a stiff dishwashing brush. Empty the pan, sprinkle in some coarse kosher salt, and use your brush to continue scrubbing (the salt acts as a gentle abrasive). You can use a steel wool pad as a last resort, but it may damage the seasoning. When the pan is clean, wipe it dry and reseason it.

5. How to store your pan

Make sure your pan is absolutely dry before you store it — this will help prevent rusting. Then, store it in a cool, dry cupboard.

Now you know how to take care of your cast-iron pan! Once you build up a good layer of seasoning, you can make all manner of things in it... yes, even eggs (get the pan hot first though!).
