Thomas Markle 'Refuses to Stay Silent,' Slams Meghan's 'Superiority'

Thomas Markle is talking about his daughter, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex again, and his words aren’t pretty. In fact, in an interview with the Daily Mail on Saturday, Markle stated he was floored by Meghan’s seemingly new sense of “superiority.”

″What riles me [most] is Meghan’s sense of superiority. She’d be nothing without me. I made her the Duchess she is today. Everything that Meghan is, I made her,” he said.

Markle is upset by his daughter’s treatment of him since her marriage to Prince Harry on May 19. According to Markle, Meghan hasn’t spoken to him for more than 10 weeks — since he staged paparazzi photos of himself prepping for the royal wedding. Markle told the Daily Mail he apologized to both Meghan and Harry for the images, but said that the royal family didn’t find his apology to be enough.

“[After apologizing to my daughter] an aide called me saying: 'You have offended the Royal Family but I can help you make an apology’… as if there's a special way to apologise to the Royal Family.”

Markle refused to expand on his apology and has been giving blunt and — at times — scathing public interviews since, including one to The Sun earlier this month.

Markle claims his anger stems from hurt: “I'm really hurt that she's cut me off completely. I used to have a phone number and text number for her personal aides at the Palace, but after I said a few critical words about the Royal Family changing Meghan, they cut me off. Those numbers… no longer work." Markle worries that if the couple decides to have children, he will not be allowed to see them.

“What’s sad is that some time in the next year Meghan and Harry will have a baby and I’ll be a grandfather, and if we’re not speaking I won’t see my grandchild,” Markle said. “How tragic is that, to deprive a child of its grandfather because I said a few things critical of the Royal Family?”

That said, Markle does hope that reconciliation is possible: "Meghan is everything to me. I love her and I always will." However, in the same breath, Markle noted that he would not be silenced.

″I refuse to stay quiet.”

Kensington Palace has not issued a response to Markle's most recent interview, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not commented either.

Mindy Kaling Won't Reveal Baby's Dad, but at Least She Revealed Her Baby's Nickname

Mindy Kaling has been pretty mum (heh) on the subject of single motherhood, but we're getting the clear feeling from the few things she has shared that she is simply rocking life with baby. Her daughter, Katherine, was born in December, and in case you were wondering, Kaling still declines to reveal the paternity of her baby. Best kept secret ever?

MoreMindy Kaling's Oscar Date Was a Very Familiar Face

Kaling has also been winning with great roles lately in A Wrinkle in Time and Ocean's Eight. But it's obvious her heart is all Katherine, whose nickname Kaling confirmed on her Instagram Stories this weekend — along with a homemade recipe for banana-date peanut butter.

Luckily for us, the Daily Mail compiled some of Kaling's Stories in this sweet YouTube vid, which includes a Sunday post confirming her daughter's nickname: "Kit will LOVE this!" (Kaling also shared her daughter's nickname in an interview with Self back in May.)

Kaling is grooving on making Kit's food: "I know that there are so many prepared, organic baby foods out there that you can buy, but because I work, I like making them on the weekends because it makes me feel like I'm part of my daughter's life," Kaling said in her Stories:

Kaling told Today that she went with Katherine for a first name because you can't go wrong with a Katherine or Katie. "I always liked the name. I have a lot of great Katherine and Katies in my life," she said.

Kaling mostly keeps Kit info to herself. “People say, ‘Did you even have a baby?’" she told Today. “I’m keeping her under wraps for now. I would kill someone who said anything [cruel] about her... I’m such a worrier — I can’t do that. I’m far too fragile. [Someday] she’ll be big enough and people will see her. Am I even doing the right thing? Maybe she’ll be mad at me later on but I’ll deal with it then.”

She did share on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that Fallon had sent a gift basket with a very special outfit inside: old-fashioned pinstriped pj's. "She looks like Hugh Hefner," Kaling quipped, provoking giggles from Fallon. Oh, how we hope we get to see that pic someday. In the meantime, enjoy this excellent interview between Kaling and Fallon.

We're still hoping Kit's papa is B. J. Novak. We can't pretend otherwise. I mean, come on.

Even Kit is probably wondering if it's Novak. Just saying.

Keith Urban Reveals What Makes Him Have a Good Cry

Keith Urban is no stranger to showing the world his softer side when he's performing. Take a look at any one of his ballads, from "Only You Can Love Me This Way" to "Woman," and you'll see that Urban is not afraid to get sensitive. That's because Urban is refreshingly in touch with his emotions and hasn't held back in the past when it comes opening up about it. Now, in a new interview, Urban is not only talking about his more sensitive side again — he's talking about how often he cries and what makes him cry.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Urban appeared on the Australian TV program Interview earlier this week. While on the show, interviewer Andrew Denton asked Urban about comments he made back in 2016 to Rolling Stone about how frequently he cries and what it is that makes him cry. (In the previous interview, Urban had said, "When I haven’t cried in a while, I can tell I get pent-up. Then maybe once a month I have a good cry, one big avalanche of a torrential downpour, and I feel amazing for weeks afterward. The streets are cleaned, the skies are blue, there’s no humidity and it’s beautiful").

With a smile on his face after being reminded of his past comments, Urban replied, "Oh, anything. [It's] accumulative, accumulative things that didn't really warrant a cry at the time, and they add up, you know."

He went on to explain, "I mean, little things, the passing of time, kids growing up, the loss of friends, loved ones for all manner of reasons — all of it."

It's admittedly very refreshing to see Urban get so honest about his emotions because even in 2018, we're still trying to get men to open up and show their sensitive side. This Fuller House Season 4 Scoop Will Make D.J. & Steve Fans Rejoice

If you're someone who still roots for D.J. Tanner and Steve Hale to be together forever, then just wait until you hear this news. According to Candace Cameron Bure, D.J. and Steve will 100 percent be together in Fuller House season four. That's right, there won't be any hesitation or distractions on either of their parts.

More: 'Fuller House': 39 Behind-the-Scenes Pics of the Cast

"Well, in season four D.J. and Steve are together," Bure confirmed to E! News in an interview published Tuesday. "There's no back and forth in season four, so she's with Steve and made that decision. I like watching and I hope the fans enjoy actually watching that relationship develop more."

As viewers recall, D.J. and Steve officially got back together in the third season, but their reunion didn't go off without some issues. Plus, at the end of the season, Steve scored a job with the L.A. Lakers as the basketball team's new foot specialist. He didn't want to take the position after finally getting back together with D.J., but she wouldn't accept his decision. She stepped in and called the Lakers on his behalf accepting the job for him.

Despite Steve going away for awhile, Bure assures fans the two are very much together. Like Steve told D.J. in the season 3-B finale, "Six months from now, you and me, it is on like Donkey Kong."

More: Fuller House No Longer Has Hope for a Michelle Tanner Return

Those who love D.J. and Steve together will be really happy with this scoop from Bure, but those who don't believe they should be a couple, well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

For many, it's been hard to watch the way Steve has fawned over D.J. in Fuller House. At times, he's even come off as creepy. It's like he can't let her go, nor does he want D.J. to be happy with anyone else but himself. Maybe Steve will be better in season four, and let's hope, because D.J. deserves so much more than an obsessed Steve. If his character doesn't improve it will surely be disappointing to watch D.J. choosing a man who almost married and strung along a copycat of herself named C.J.

As for the rest of season four, Bure revealed Kimmy's pregnancy (she's carrying Stephanie and Jimmy's baby) is the "focus" of season four. Plus, she also dished that Uncle Jesse, Aunt Becky and Danny will not be regulars in the upcoming season.

"At the end of season three, Jesse, Becky, Danny they move back to San Francisco." She continued, "They're not regulars this season, so, actually, it doesn't affect the show that much it just makes it more convenient and understandable why they're able to drop in as often as they do. But, they're not in the house and they're still in about three episodes each this season."

A Fuller House season 4 premiere date has yet to be announced.

We Talked to The Sinner’s New Star Natalie Paul About Season 2

$

0

There’s a reason The Sinner is a new fan-favorite show. It boldly and unapologetically takes on dark subjects like cold-blooded murder and centers on a character you'd least expect to be involved in such a thing. Last season, it was a seemingly innocent wife and mother (played by Jessica Biel). And this season, it’s a 13-year-old boy (Elisha Henig), who’s caught up in the double murder of a married couple inside their motel room. As the mystery gradually unfolds in each episode, it peels away the layers of deeply complex and tortured yet fully capable characters for whom you will feel equal amounts of fear and love.

Actor Natalie Paul plays Heather, the small-town rookie detective struggling to unravel the mystery behind this young boy, why he was found at the scene of such a gruesome crime and what role his mother (Carrie Coon) plays in all of it. Together with seasoned detective Ambrose (Bill Pullman), Heather falls deeper and deeper into a mystery that threatens to suck her down with it. In the midst of it all, Heather’s own dark past comes bubbling to the surface.

We talked to Paul about living in the disturbing universe of The Sinner, embodying the true humanity of the role and what it was like to work with the stellar cast.

More: Jessica Biel Isn't Completely Done With The Sinner, But She Has Been Replaced

SheKnows: What drew you to the character, and what drew you to the show?

Natalie Paul: I love the first season. It was amazing. I love the whole concept of it. I like the way that it was shot, the writing. It was already great. Heather was just a fantastic character who I knew would be really full and had a lot of potential for change, something I’m always looking for in a character. She was tough, and I had really loved that. She’s a complex female character.

SK: Last season, The Sinner went places that we never expected it to go, and we anticipate this season will do the same thing. Using every single episode to uncover something new and disturbing...

NP: I think they make great use of each episode. Each episode is its own story. It’s just really well written. Something happens every step of the way that gets you closer and closer to what the truth is.

SK: You talked about the wonderful complexities of your character, Heather. We watched the first three episodes, and aside from the murder mystery, there's also someone who haunts her from her past. How did you approach and prepare for the role?

NP: We did research on what it’s like to be a detective in training and a female cop. We got to talk to some pretty cool experts. I did my own research just learning what it’s like to be a woman in law enforcement. It’s really tough. You really can’t show any weakness. I think that that really plays a role on the show because she has an enormous amount of pressure on her — being biracial and being gay in this town where she wants to do well. There are a lot of eyes on her. She overachieves in a way. It was great talking to some of the experts. I got to talk to the female detective pretty regularly about the challenges that come her way. As far as Heather’s past, I think we all have someone who just sticks with us. I think relating to that for me is pretty easy. That’s what I love about the character. We see this woman who’s incredibly competent and passionate about her job but also has a [past] that she keeps protected from the world.

SK: One of the things we find very striking is Heather's identity and all the spaces it occupies: Black woman, queer, with a white dad played by Tracy Letts. Do you feel pressure as an actor to present her in a specific way?

NP: My approach was to just honor the text and the writer’s vision and go about it that way. I think they’ve done an amazing job writing this character. I love Heather. She’s culturally sympathetic and empathetic. Her struggles are present but don’t overtake the character. They’re not what make her interesting in a singular way. The fact that she embodies all these different aspects is what makes her so human. I think that’s what we all are. We might not have all these different identities, but we all do hold different, sometimes contradicting truths. I think I was really safe in that regard, in terms of writing this beautiful character. I wouldn’t have been attracted to a role that didn’t feel human to me. I just handled it with as much empathy as I could, as I would with any other character. Because you just want to be aware of anything the character may be dealing with. I made myself more and more aware of her perspective.

SK: What was it like working with Bill Pullman and Carrie Coon?

NP: It’s amazing! I keep saying "Tracy and Carrie and Bill — oh, my!" All these different, amazing actors that I’ve watched and enjoyed. Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I am among them. Carrie is like a firecracker in real life. Bill has all this wisdom and intelligence and knowledge. It’s been great. I’m learning a lot. I’m also getting in the ring with them, so it’s cool! It’s a dream experience, for sure.

SK: We’ve seen you in a lot of things, but the performance that continues to stick with us is yours in Crown Heights, the true story of a young Black man [played by Lakeith Stanfield] who was wrongfully convicted of murder. You were exquisite in that.

NP: Thank you so much! I loved working on Crown Heights. That was really meaningful for me. I still get to talk to [the real-life person upon which my role is based] Antoinette every once in a while. Getting to work with Lakeith was just amazing and getting to tell a true story that we should all know about is a real honor. It mixed my passion for acting with trying to make a difference in the world. It was huge for me.

SK: Speaking of your attraction to complex characters, what did you find most meaningful about playing Heather on The Sinner? How do you ultimately want to engage with the audience?

NP: In the best-case scenario, I get to play characters that are full and go through some kind of change in their lives and get to see their spirit undergo something. The writing draws me in — the story. I love when I’m reading something and I can really hear the voice of the creator. Sometimes, you don’t really feel a voice. Most cases, I’ve been really blessed to work with auteurs in their own right. They’re really creating and trying to shift the culture. Those are the trains that I like; trains that are going somewhere. That’s what draws me to different characters and different worlds. Sometimes, I do things because I need a change, and sometimes, characters are little therapists for me. I love playing beautifully, well-written women of color who are strong and intelligent and full and human. I try to go for that as much as possible.

SK: The Sinner does just that. It takes a subject that is so dark and considered taboo and puts a woman at the center of it. It’s contradicting a longtime trope that women should only be involved in lighter fare.

NP: Absolutely. Women of color, as well. Sometimes, it can only be about race or sexuality when we’re in the story. In this case, her background and her sexuality are present but they’re not the full measure of who she is. It’s not used as a device in the script necessarily. It’s really well-woven into the story. I’m really attracted to that.

The second season of The Sinner premieres Aug. 1 on USA Network.

The Parasite That Was Affecting McDonald's Salads May Be Spreading to Trader Joe's

Updated Aug. 1, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. EST:  The U.S. Department of Agriculture is warning customers to stay away from salads and wraps sold at several large-scale grocery chains — including Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Gordon Food Service and Walgreens — as the romaine lettuce used in these products may have been tainted by the cyclospora parasite.

The illness caused by the parasite is the same one that affected McDonald's customers last month, and while the tainted lettuce has been traced back to a single supplier, Fresh Express, numerous products have been affected. (You can view the full list here.)

The salads and wraps in question were produced by Indianapolis-based Caito Foods LLC between July 15 and 18 and had sell-by dates between July 18 and 23.

The USDA is urging consumers to discard any affected products they may still have.

Original story, published July 13, 2018:  It's been a bad year for salad eaters.

Just when we thought the salad recalls finally came to a halt, all eyes are now on McDonald's salads.

The Illinois Department of Public Health received confirmation of approximately 90 cases of people falling ill with cyclosporiasis, a parasite that causes an intestinal infection, in counties across Illinois starting mid-May. About one-quarter of the Illinois cases reported eating salads from McDonald's days before they became ill. However, public officials continue to investigate other sources, according to IDPH director Dr. Nirav D. Shah.

"If you ate a salad from McDonald's since mid-May and developed diarrhea and fatigue, contact a health care provider about testing and treatment," says Shah.

Salads from Iowa were also affected — with 15 Iowans falling ill so far.

"This summer there have been several clusters of cyclospora illness associated with various foods that are commercially available. This week IDPH has identified 15 Iowans who ate McDonald's salads in late June to early July prior to getting ill," said state medical director and epidemiologist at the Iowa Department of Public Health, Dr. Patricia Quinlisk.

McDonald's has been in contact with public health authorities from Iowa and Illinois, McDonald's told BuzzFeed. The fast food chain is also in cooperation with the state health department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration investigation and is voluntarily removing the salads from its restaurants and distribution centers — and restocking salads from other suppliers.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to voluntarily stop selling salads at impacted restaurants until we can switch to another lettuce blend supplier," they told BuzzFeed. "We are in the process of removing existing salad blend from identified restaurants and distribution centers — which includes approximately 3,000 of our U.S. restaurants primarily located in the Midwest."

"McDonald's is committed to the highest standards of food safety and quality control. We are closely monitoring this situation and cooperating with state and federal public health authorities as they further investigate," McDonald's said in the statement.

Symptoms of cyclospora, which is not spread directly from one person to another, may include frequent bouts of watery diarrhea, loss of appetite and loss of weight; cramping, bloating and/or increased gas; nausea, fatigue and low-grade fever — and typically set in about a week after exposure. Some affected people may not have any symptoms, though.

The infection can be treated with specific antibiotics according to IDPH, and if not treated, the illness could last few a few days to a month or longer.

This same parasite caused the recent Del Monte veggie tray recall. On June 15, Del Monte recalled several sizes of its clear plastic veggie trays containing precut vegetables and dip. The affected platters had an expiration date of June 17, and more than 200 people have gotten sick so far, with seven hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

Definitely Do Not Wash & Reuse Condoms — Seriously, It's a Terrible Idea

Ah, condoms — the perfect fit for bananas and penises. When used correctly, condoms can be a highly effective way to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. And part of using them correctly includes only using condoms once, and then throwing them away — not washing them and reusing them.

Sure, we're all about reducing, reusing and recycling when appropriate, but when an unplanned pregnancy or STI is at stake, it's definitely not an appropriate time to be reusing a condom. This has apparently become such an issue that the Centers for Disease Control thought it was necessary to tweet about it.

There are several reasons condoms should not be reused, including the fact that condoms were not designed to be washed and may not come out clean (or even tear-free) post-wash.

More: The Truth Behind the Pullout Method

On top of that, part of effective condom usage is rolling it onto the penis, which is not possible if a condom has already been used. If you need more specifics about how to put a condom on (including visuals), the CDC's website has a step-by-step guide

And yes, condoms can get expensive, but the good news is that there are places and organizations that give them away for free. (We even put this handy list together for you.) Though we support efforts to be thrifty and environmentally friendly, this isn't the place to do it.

More: How & Where to Get Free Condoms

So, if you or a partner ever finds yourself in a situation where you're thinking of washing and reusing a condom, remember this PSA from the CDC and just don't do it (until you get your hands on a new unopened condom).

How Your Period Changes in Your 40s

$
0
0

You’ve had your period for years. Whether yours is regular or not, it’s familiar. But with age comes change, and the period you once knew will adjust and evolve with your body. This could be due to hormonal changes, pregnancy or perimenopause, but every body is unique, making everyone’s experience different. So, what can you expect from your period in your 40s?

Perimenopause begins in your 30s or 40s, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The amount of estrogen ovaries produce begins to fluctuate, and that can cause changes in the menstrual cycle and abnormal bleeding. Periods may be shorter or longer, heavier or lighter, and you may even find yourself skipping periods.

“As women approach menopause, they may notice their periods spacing out,” said Dr. Tamara Kolev, an obstetrician and gynecologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. “They may notice night sweats and mood changes. Some women do complain of weight gain. That is not to say all women experience this and, of course, it is experienced differently by different women.”

Kristine Luedtke Casko, 43, said that while she hasn’t noticed a dramatic change, she has been experiencing much lighter, shorter periods. She’s also noticed that symptoms she once experienced alongside her period, like sensitive breasts, have not been happening.

“I’m still in my early 40s, and without having kids I don’t feel like I’ve had as much change as others,” she said. “I eat healthy for the most part and I do a lot of supplements — ones that help regulate my blood sugar and help a lot with female issues that other people have as well, but I will also say I’ve never been regular.”

For Casko, “it is more regular to be irregular” when it comes to menstruation, she said.

Not everyone experiences perimenopause in the same way. Some people may experience it for a couple years; others may not have much of a perimenopausal state at all, according to Kolev.

Common signs and symptoms of perimenopause include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, more frequent urination, UTIs, vaginal dryness and vaginal infections, according to ACOG.

“Women’s periods may remain the same until they approach 40. Your period may get lighter as you get closer to menopause or become more spaced out,” Kolev said. “If yours becomes heavier or more frequent, you should see your gynecologist”

Kolev said the average age for menopause is 52, but some people experience changes earlier or later on in life. The absence of a period for a year is what defines menopause, and perimenopause is your body’s way of transitioning and reacting to fluctuating hormone levels.

The most important thing to remember is that no one knows your body better than you do, and if you find yourself experiencing dramatic changes when it comes to your period or your body in general, make an appointment with your doctor to find out more.

Bachelor in Paradise Hasn't Even Started, & We're Already Over Tia & Colton

$

How is it that Bachelor in Paradise hasn’t even started yet, and there’s already drama between (potential) cast members? Oh, who are we kidding? Bachelor Nation lives and dies by its drama. But in the case of exes (and possibly a new couple once again?) Tia Booth and Colton Underwood, we’re just about over it. And, since “it” technically isn’t even a thing yet, this might be one long, soapy season in Paradise.

More: Everything We Know About Bachelor in Paradise Season 5 So Far

In an interview with Us Weekly, Booth made it clear whom she’ll be giving her rose to if she gets the chance. “I feel like me and Colton are kind of at a point where we don’t know what can come of it,” she said. “I look forward to having a conversation with him and kind of figuring out where we are and what’s going on. Then, we can move forward from there.”

Suddenly, we’re having flashbacks to Ashley Iaconetti’s disastrous attempt to rewin Jared Haibon’s affection during their ill-fated stint in Paradise together.

It’s not that we have anything against Booth or Underwood, per se. However, there is such a thing as overexposure. Fans first met Booth at the same time we met current Bachelorette Becca Kufrin when both women were vying for Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s heart on his season of The Bachelor.

More: The Bachelor in Paradise Season 5 Cast Was Revealed, & We Have Feelings

It wasn’t until after Luyendyk's season, though, that Booth met Underwood — a former NFL tight end from Arkansas — and the two began dating. But this is Bachelor Nation, y’all. Of course Underwood would try out for Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette after he and Booth broke up. This made for a built-in ratings boost for Kufrin since Booth made surprise cameos to discuss the status of her feelings.

And so, months prior to the new Bachelor in Paradise, the saga of Booth and Underwood began.

First, Booth claimed she was totally over Underwood. "Go for it," she said! "It’ll be fine," she said! Fast forward to Kufrin’s July 16 episode when Booth confessed that she was still carrying a torch for Underwood. “When I think about Colton being at this point now, it makes me sick at my stomach… Knowing that you got to meet his family and knowing that he’s still here in this makes me sick,” Booth admitted to Kufrin.

Not surprisingly, Underwood was eliminated and sent home shortly after. Now, just ahead of the new season of Bachelor in Paradise, Booth says she just needs to know where things stand. “I feel like we don’t really have any closure,” she told Us. “The last time we talked was before he went on Becca’s season.”

Does this seem like a whole lot of back-and-forth for two people who aren’t even on the show yet? Yeah, we think so too.

Alas, who are we to deprive Chris Harrison of yet another opportunity to declare a season “the most dramatic ever”? Booth and Underwood have all the trappings of a successful reality TV relationship — and by successful, we clearly mean tumultuous and full of cliffhanger-inducing drama.

This will undoubtedly prove to be true if Booth follows the advice given to her by her BFF and a former BiP alum, Raven Gates.

More: This Bachelor in Paradise Couple Is Returning to Season 5 & Might Get Engaged

“Raven told me to just be completely open-minded because she did not expect to fall for Adam [Gottschalk]. She didn’t really know anything about him and she wasn’t going into it with anyone in mind. She just told me to go into it, like I’ve said, with a positive outlook, knowing that it’s going to be a great summer and to go on dates with people,” Booth revealed.

In fact, judging by the new BiP season promo, that advice leads Booth right into a love triangle between her, Underwood and another Bachelorette alum, Chris Randone.

But hey, Iaconetti and Haibon met their BiP doom due to a messy love triangle (sorry 'bout your luck, Caila Quinn), and they’re engaged now. So you never know — Booth could wind up with a ring on her finger yet.

In which case, we'll all surely hear about it... a lot.

"Go on, take the Dunkin' and run." That's how that classic Steve Miller Band song goes, right? At least that's how we feel on hectic Monday mornings when we're hitting up that Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru to get our iced coffee and glazed doughnut.

And just for us constantly-on-the-go types, Dunkin' has launched its new Dunkin' Run value menu — and, no, it doesn't solely consist of breakfast items.

More: Dunkin' Donuts Introduces 3 New Coffee Flavors That Taste Like Ice Cream

The menu features a cast of $2 items, including ham and cheese rollups, pretzel bites with mustard and waffle-battered chicken tenders. But the two we're most excited about are the return of Donut Fries and Dunkin's first-ever nationwide gluten-free bakery product: the fudge brownie.

Introduced back in April, the Donut Fries are buttery croissants, deep-fried and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Who needs Taco Bell's nacho fries when you can have these glorious, crispy doughnut fries? Actually, no, don't answer that, Bell-heads.

"We know that the 'Dunkin' Run' is a daily part of many of our guests' lives as they keep themselves and their friends running, so we're excited to launch a new menu offering fresh ways to satisfy any craving any time of day," says Dunkin' Donuts' U.S. chief marketing officer Tony Weisman in a press release. "We also recognize the importance of providing alternative choices for people with dietary restrictions or who choose a gluten-free diet, which is why we're pleased our new menu offers guests a gluten-free fudge brownie, which is so chewy and delicious we think everyone will love it."

According to Dunkin' Donuts' press release, the menu was created to pair perfectly with their signature beverages, including their iced coffees and teas. And for $2 each, you get a pretty sizeable amount of food: two orders of ham and cheese rollups, five bite-size pretzels with a side of spicy brown mustard and two chicken tenders coated in waffle batter.

Also returning to the menu is the s'mores doughnut, perfect to round out your summer. And who can resist a chocolate icing-frosted doughnut filled with marshmallow and sprinkled with graham crackers and Hershey's chocolate?

The Internet Is Furious About Kim Kardashian West's Homophobic Comment

Kim Kardashian West has spent enough time on the internet to realize that what happens on the internet doesn’t always stay on the internet. One ill-conceived tweet can land you in the prison of public scrutiny, and it would seem as though Kardashian West recently forgot that cardinal rule for the sake of a clapback. Now, the reality TV star is under fire for perceived homophobic comments she made toward actor and model Tyson Beckford.

The situation arose when the social media account The Shade Room posted a photo of Kardashian West visiting Jimmy Kimmel’s set. In comments that have since been screen-grabbed, Beckford said of Kardashian West, “Sorry I don’t care for it personally.” He then elaborated, adding, “She is not real, doctor fucked up on her right hip.”

Never one to shy away from her own chance to throw shade, though, Kardashian West responded to Beckford’s shadiness. “Sis, we all know why you don’t care for it,” she wrote, tossing in a Kermit the Frog “sipping” tea emoji for good measure to imply something about why Beckford wouldn't find her attractive.

However, the Twittersphere didn’t waste time calling Kardashian West out for her clapback’s potentially homophobic undertones.

Of course, this isn’t to say that Beckford shouldn’t also be admonished for his comment. It was a remark that could easily be construed as body-shaming. Kardashian West’s reply, though, was much more problematic because it implied that Beckford is gay and, here’s the big issue, that there is something inherently wrong with being gay.

This is certainly not the only controversy Kardashian West had courted this week, either. Mere days before this run-in with Beckford, she came under fire for an Instagram video that many interpreted as glorifying anorexia.

In the video, Kardashian West’s half-sister, Kendall Jenner, worries aloud that Kardashian West has lost too much weight. “I don’t think you’re eating,” Jenner says. “Like, you look so skinny… my purse is as tiny as you.” Kardashian West visibly delights in the feedback, exclaiming, “Oh, my God, the compliments!”

Later in the evening, younger sister Khloé Kardashian chimed in, calling the mom of three’s waist and arms “anorexic” and “pin thin.” Kardashian West’s response? “You guys, I’m not that skinny!,” she said, adding, “I’m down to 119 pounds.” Fans and critics alike (including fellow celebrities like Emmy Rossum) were none-too-thrilled with the conversation and the potentially damaging implications it could have for the family’s young followers.

Suffice it to say, this hasn’t been Kardashian West’s best week. But, more pointedly, the comments she made arguably made the week even harder — and possibly dangerous — for those affected by her insensitivity.

The Benefits of Unstructured Time for Kids

The right to education, the right to equal opportunity and the right to... play?

Yes! According to the United Nations, play is a fundamental human right to which all children must have access. It is vital for mental health, developing social skills and building confidence and resilience. Yet, over the past 60 years, there has been a rapid decline in children’s ability to play, according to experts like Peter Gray, Ph.D., research professor of psychology at Boston College and author of Free to Learn. “There is no comparison between the freedom that kids had when I was growing up in the 1950s and what kids have today,” he says.

Free play, sometimes called unstructured play, must be guided by the players themselves — in this case, children. “Free play is the most untainted for a child because it is whatever they want it to be,” says Debbie Rhea, Ph.D., founder and director of the LiiNK Project and professor at Texas Christian University. “An adult has no influence and gives no guidance in helping a child to figure out what they’re going to do with a space, a concept or equipment. The child figures out what they want to do, how they want to go about it and what rules to create and follow.” In this context, children develop the skills that not only serve them in the present but also help them grow into happy, successful adults.

Closing the confidence gap

Do you remember standing at the edge of a pool, contemplating whether to dive in, then taking the plunge? Or wondering whether that tree is too tall to climb, then scrambling up it? When someone does this, they are intentionally and consciously exposing themselves to fear. “This is how you learn courage,” says Gray. “This is how you learn you can be in a fear-inducing situation, and you can manage it. You can control yourself. You don’t panic.”

When kids are at that should-I-or-shouldn’t-I moment, it’s tempting to step in and play hero. But you’re better off letting them play through this moment of fear, says Rhea. “My philosophy is you don’t fix it,” she says. “You allow them to develop their confidence, self-esteem and intrinsic motivation. That’s healthier than what we have today, which is a large group of very extrinsically motivated children.”

Friends? Friends

The first time a child pushes another child, they may get a negative response yet repeat the behavior. But eventually, the second child will walk away. “Over time, they learn, 'OK, I can’t push this person or they’re going to stop playing with me,' so they stop pushing,” says Rhea. “They start monitoring their own social behaviors by doing this kind of thing.

“Play is a natural context for learning how to get along with other children,” adds Gray. “The reason is that it’s freely chosen and self-motivated, so you’re free to quit. This makes play the most democratic activity there is.”

Problem solved

When comparing children who have more time to play and those who spend more time in structured, adult-driven activities, researchers have found important differences in what they call executive function — the ability to develop and follow through on a plan for solving problems.

“This is consistent with the idea that the forebrain connections — the parts of the brain involved in these things — are growing,” says Gray. “Play is how children learn to take control of their lives, make their own decisions and develop a sense that they can solve their own problems. They start to understand that they can meet the bumps on the road of life, because they’ve been out there playing and experiencing the bumps on the road of life.”

A happy, healthy child

Since the 1960s, researchers and educators have used Rotter’s Internal-External Locus of Control Scale to better understand how we interact with the world around us. As free play has decreased, external locus of control — whereby you believe you are controlled by fate, circumstance and other people — has increased. Internal locus of control, its opposite, has decreased.

“There’s longstanding research and clinical evidence that if you don’t have an internal locus of control, you are predisposed to anxiety and depression,” says Gray. “If you don’t have opportunities to play, you don’t have an internal locus of control, and that sets you up for depression and anxiety.” This is consistent with the rise of these disorders in children and teens.

Where parents come in

If you’re reading this, realizing your child is overscheduled and descending into a spiral of self-blame, hold on just one moment.

Every day, we hear about the importance of academics, protecting children and what a competitive world it is out there. But we rarely hear about the flip side. “We need a comparable amount, if not more information about the dangers of overprotecting children, too much stress in schooling and not going out to play,” says Gray.

Rhea agrees. “I know it’s hard today,” she says. "We need to let parents be parents and kids be kids. I wish parents could relax, even a little, and allow kids to experience things even a little more than they’re experiencing them now.”

Every little bit does help. And the first step is a shift in mindset. “Parents have to work to become aware that play is not wasted time,” says Gray. “It is where and how children learn what really are the most important human skills.”

Jennifer Aniston Reminds Everyone That She's Not 'Damaged Goods'

Jennifer Aniston has had enough, and she’s not afraid to say so. She opened up to InStyle for the magazine’s September cover feature, and she didn’t hide how she feels about the pressure placed on her (and all women) to become mothers — and the assumptions made if you don’t.

As a Hollywood A-lister, Aniston isn’t a stranger to the proverbial peanut gallery. She’s accustomed to people speculating about her romantic partners and other life choices. But the actor rarely addresses the near-constant presumptions about why she hasn’t had children… until now.

More: You'll Never Guess Who Jennifer Aniston Is Reuniting With

“No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me,” she said of the “reckless” assumptions being made. “They don’t know what I’ve been through medically or emotionally. There is pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods.”

Aniston makes several salient points. Whether a woman — celebrity or otherwise — goes on to have children is her business and hers alone. And for all anyone knows, it may not even be a choice. For some women, bearing and/or giving birth to a child isn’t medically possible.

Then there are those women who simply choose not to. And that’s more than OK. It’s a valid life choice and in no way diminishes a woman’s experience. “Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate,” Aniston added. “Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do?”

In Aniston’s opinion, that breed of judgment is another form of sexism.

“I’ve definitely had my fair share of sexism in the media,” she told InStyle. “Women are picked apart and pitted against one another based on looks and clothing and superficial stuff. When a couple breaks up in Hollywood, it’s the woman who is scorned. The woman is left sad and alone. She’s the failure. F that. When was the last time you read about a divorced, childless man referred to as a spinster?”

Don’t worry, though — Aniston isn’t ready to pack it all in and give up on acting and its subsequent scrutiny just yet. Although she admits she’s pondered moving to “Switzerland — or somewhere,” she sees herself in the industry for the long haul.

“I’m grateful as long as people still want me to come to the party,” she said. “I think I’ll always keep acting as long as there’s a desire for me to do it. As long as I’m fulfilled in other ways creatively, spiritually, and all of that stuff, I know that I could do this until they put me in a home.”

How to Be a Supportive Friend or Family Member for Someone Living With Depression

Watching a cherished friend, family member or partner struggle with depression can cause an odd, seemingly discordant feeling — a powerful helplessness. A person we knew to have passion for their families or pets, a job or hobbies, feels a bit less bright, a bit distant, a bit (or more than a bit) like they need some help.

But most of us are not medical doctors or mental health professionals, and we’re terrified we’ll say the wrong thing or something that makes our loved one’s pain worse. So we say nothing at all or we simply ask them how they’re doing, like we haven’t observed anything at all and shrug off their response, which will likely be “OK” or a “little tired.”

Start the conversation

“People hesitate to talk about their depression. They don’t want others to be burdened by it,” psychologist Dr. Laura Ciel, cofounder of Life Advance International and past president of the Santa Barbara County Psychological Association, tells SheKnows.

Ciel says it’s better to simply come out and say, gently and with kindness, what we’ve been seeing, like, “I notice you haven’t been smiling much lately and wondered if you felt like talking," or "Normally when we go out, you seem to have fun, but lately you haven’t enjoyed the things that normally make you smile and laugh. Is something on your mind?”

More: Women Who Wake Up Early Are Less Likely to Develop Depression

People living with depression can have difficulty expressing their feelings in words, so opening the door, however slightly, can help them take the first steps in reaching out, she explains. If our loved one admits that, yes, they’ve been feeling off or depressed lately, Ciel suggests asking them what they think might make them feel better.

“If your friend or loved one says they feel very depressed, they might not be able to answer the question [about what might make them feel better],” she says. “In a situation like that, remind them that there are professionals who know how to help people feel a little bit better and encourage them to seek help.” Ciel finds that these questions are effective because “one of the markers of depression is a cognitive mindset that sets someone up to feel ineffective in anything they do. Questions like [these] help your friend/loved one identify what is in their control and what they can do to make things a bit better.”

Stick around

Remaining a constant presence in our friend or loved one’s life can help them stay connected with the world and feel less isolated. According to Gabrielle Freire, a marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles, these actions can be as simple as checking in through text and email.

One of the primary signs of depression is losing interest in standard activities. This can range from standard chores and errands to favorite hobbies — and losing interest in these activities can cause the depressed person to lose their daily routines, which can, in turn, exacerbate their depression, Freire tells SheKnows.

“I would recommend that a friend supports their depressed friend by encouraging them to keep their activity plans,” she suggests. For example, you might encourage your friend or loved one to go to their Pilates class, even offering to go with them.

Small gestures count

If your friend isn’t quite up to their normal activities or their depression has reached a place at which it has begun to impact their daily life, you can get more involved on a micro level. Dr. Camila Williams, a clinical psychologist and owner of Living Well CBT, tells SheKnows that she speaks with her clients about depression in terms people would use to describe treating the flu.

"We all know when someone has the flu, they're tired, they sleep more, simple tasks wipe out their energy. It’s the same for depression,” she says. Williams suggests that small gestures, like “offering to watch the kids for a while, bringing over soup, sitting and watching reruns” can be powerful and remind your friend that they are loved. “If you can help with cooking, cleaning and childcare, do so,” she adds.

More: These Are the Signs of Depression

Williams says that we can suggest that our friend seeks out therapy or professional care, but if they don’t want to talk about therapy, “don't push them, but it's OK to ask and show interest.” She says that if our loved one does talk about therapy and shares that they have “handouts or tasks to try,” we can offer to help them.

Supporting a loved one through a difficult time or a significant illness can seem intimidating, but with some compassion and a willingness to ask questions and pitch in, we can hopefully make a real difference.

Just when we were able to push The Great Chipotle E. Coli Scare of 2015 out of our minds, Chipotle Mexican Grill is back in the news for food poisoning — and it happened on National Guacamole Day of all days.

Yesterday, Chipotle closed — and later reopened — one of its Powell, Ohio, locations following reports of food poisoning. More than 350 people (368 to be exact) so far reported getting sick after eating at the restaurant, leading Delaware County, Ohio, health officials to investigate a potential outbreak.

The health department gave stool sample kits to 33 residents with food poisoning symptoms according to a Facebook post on the Delaware General Health District's Facebook page.

Today, another update was posted, stating 45 others reported getting food poisoning from the restaurant, located at 9733 Sawmill Parkway.

"Staff members are diligently working to contact the hundreds of inquiries received Tuesday along with delivering stool sample kits for laboratory testing," the statement reads. "The food inspection team inspected the restaurant Tuesday afternoon. Based on the food protection procedures followed by the facility, the inspection team found no reason for the facility to not reopen."

Delaware General Health District adds that another inspection will take place later this week.

Chipotle has responded to the outbreak, saying they "acted quickly" and are working with the health department.

"Our protocols identified a handful of illness reports at one restaurant in Powell, OH," Chipotle spokesperson Laurie Schalow told USA Today. "We acted quickly and closed this single restaurant out of an abundance of caution. We are working with the local health department and we plan to reopen this restaurant today."

It's not confirmed if the food poisoning did in fact come from the Chipotle restaurant, and results from tests are pending, ABC News reports.

ABC News also reports that those affected by the outbreak "complained of symptoms ranging from nausea, vomiting and diarrhea."

If you consumed food from this location and experienced the aforementioned symptoms, it's advised you call 740-368-1700 and ask to speak to a member of the communicable disease team.

She may still be Jenny from the Block, but Jennifer Lopez is about to step up another level into the star stratosphere. On Tuesday, MTV announced that the entertainer will receive the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award during the network’s annual Video Music Awards. And can we just say it’s about damn time?

Let’s consider J.Lo’s stats. The woman has already won two MTV Video Music Awards and has racked up 23 nominations. So, yes, let’s please all take our seats while Lopez is recognized on Aug. 20 for her achievements in music.

More: The Internet Thinks Jennifer Lopez Is Engaged, & They Might Be Right

To recap, those achievements include but are not limited to selling over 80 million records worldwide, winning more than 100 awards and earning over 300 award nominations since she left behind her career as one of In Living Color’s Fly Girls in 1991. Among the accolades are prestigious honors like Bambi Awards’ best international pop performance (2000), Billboard’s Icon Award (2014) and the American Music Awards’ favorite Latin artist (2011).

Why is the Vanguard Award such a big deal? Essentially, the artist it is named for — Michael Jackson — is responsible for the music video that completely revolutionized the medium’s format: “Thriller.” That 1984 endeavor shifted music videos as simple vehicles for songs into an art form. People began looking at music videos like short films informed by their title tracks.

Receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award means you are considered an innovator in the music industry. For Lopez, who is also up for best collaboration and best Latin music video, it’s an affirmation of the performer’s dynamic range as an entertainer.

Not to mention, Lopez will be only the seventh woman to have earned the honor since the year “Thriller” debuted. The first woman to win the prize was Madonna in 1986, putting Lopez in elite company.

So, go ahead. Fill your iPod up with J.Lo classics and start counting down the days until everyone’s favorite former Fly Girl gets her crown (or, you know, trophy). Ever the gracious pop goddess, Lopez will be bestowing a gift of her own on fans — her first performance on the VMAs stage since 2001.

Madonna Is Now a Soccer Mom in Portugal, Because of Course She Is

Madonna has had many monikers over the years: Material Girl, Madge and Queen of Pop, just to name a few. But the title of "soccer mom" just might be her favorite yet. Of course, in true Madonna style, she's taken the role of soccer mom to the next level by moving to Portugal so her 12-year-old son, David, can train to (hopefully) become the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

In a new interview with Vogue Italia, the star said that she considered moving her family to Turin and Barcelona before settling on Lisbon because "it seemed the best all-around choice." David's dream is to become a professional soccer player, and if Madonna has anything to do with it, he just might achieve this lofty goal.

"I've been desperate to get him into the best academies with the best coaches, but the level of football in America is much lower than the rest of the world. I saw his frustration, and I also felt it was a good time," Madonna told the outlet.

The entire family is embracing life in Portugal as she immerses them in the culture and arts scene in Portugal's capital city. David and his siblings — Mercy James, 12, Stella and Esther, 5 — are all learning Portuguese as well. (Madonna also has two older children, Lourdes, 21, and Rocco, 17, from previous relationships.)

She may be the world's most famous soccer mom, but Madonna's scheduling woes are totally relatable. With game times and locations constantly changing, the star revealed that it's tough to make plans. (Sound familiar?) "It's impossible to make plans, and then you feel like you're not being fair to your other kids, or being fair to me!" she told Vogue Italia.

Although she's doing everything she can to make David's professional soccer-playing dreams come true, Madonna isn't putting any pressure on her son. "A lot of people say to me, 'You must really want your son to be a successful soccer player, your oldest daughter [Lourdes] to be a dancer, Rocco to be a painter.’ And I always say no, what I want my children to be is loving, compassionate, responsible human beings," she shared.

Less than two months after welcoming her first child, Eva Longoria has officially introduced little Santiago Enrique Bastón to the world. This isn't just any debut, mind you — Santiago made the cover of Hola! USA at just 6 weeks old, so he's already accomplished something most of us can only dream of. Not too shabby!

Longoria shared the adorable cover on Instagram accompanied by a sweet caption thanking the magazine's crew for making the perfect shoot happen. "Here he is! Santiago Enrique Baston is waving hello at the whole world! Couldn’t wait to share this picture with y’all!," Longoria wrote. "Thanks to @usahola and @bernardodoral for capturing these beautiful moments with my newborn son! #BabyBaston #HOLAUSA."

Little Santiago is indeed waving at the camera, and our hearts are melting. Longoria also spoke about life as a new mom — and she's loving it. "It’s magical. I feel like I’ve known him my whole life," the actor told the outlet.

If you can't get enough of Santiago, don't worry — more photos of Longoria and her little bundle of joy will be featured in a spread when Hola! USA's September issue releases next week.

When Longoria and her husband José Bastón welcomed Santiago last month, they shared their joy with Hola! USA, saying "We are so grateful for this beautiful blessing."

Santiago is Longoria's first child, but he has four older half-siblings to dote on him. Bastón has four children from a previous marriage: Natalia, 23, Mariana, 15, and twins Sebastian and José, 15.

Meanwhile, it looks like Santiago may already be on his first tropical vacation. This morning, Longoria posted a beach photo that's giving us serious envy.

"Anyone wanna join me? #vacay," Longoria captioned the post. That's a rhetorical question, right?

Women in This Industry Are More Likely to Live With Depression

The service industry makes up a large portion of the American workforce. In fact, according to the Pew Research Center, 71 percent of Americans work in private service-providing positions. Of course, not all service jobs are created equal. "Services" can include anything from accounting, teaching and nursing to working in a trade or in retail, waitressing or tourism.

And while the job opportunities are a good thing, a new study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology revealed a darker side of the industry. Specifically, the research suggests that individuals who work in the service sector — especially those who rely on tips — have a greater risk of developing depression, sleep problems and other stress-related problems.

What's more, women in the tipped service industry are more likely to report depressive symptoms and/or a depression diagnosis than men.

More: Here's How Much Money Women Actually Make

The study included 2,815 women and 2,586 men, and while the reasoning behind the gender bias is unclear, researchers do have a few theories. Lead author Sarah Andrea, a Ph.D. candidate in epidemiology at the Oregon Health & Science University-Portland State University School of Public Health, believes customer hostility and/or the sexualization of women in public may be to blame.

Her coauthor, Dr. Janne Boone-Heinonen, an associate professor of epidemiology in the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, agrees. “While the idea that ‘the customer is always right’ may be a valid business plan, our study results indicate that mentality may negatively impact employee health, especially in women," she notes.

As for the service sector problem in general, Andrea said that she believes instability is to blame.

“The higher prevalence of mental health problems may be linked to the precarious nature of service work, including lower and unpredictable wages, insufficient benefits and a lack of control over work hours and assigned shifts," she said in a statement.

That said, in order to better understand the factors that contribute to differences in mental health among service workers — and among men and women — additional research will be necessary. And regardless of the industry you work in, remember: If you are feeling stressed, depressed or overwhelmed, there is help. There is hope. And you are not alone.

Alex Rodriguez Debunked Some Rumors About His Relationship With Jennifer Lopez

You'd have to have a heart of stone not to be totally rooting for Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez. They're one of the most devoted, happy celebrity couples out there right now. So naturally, after more than a year together that includes blending families, buying property together and basically becoming inseparable, it's easy for fans of the couple to start wondering whether an engagement is on the horizon. While engagement rumors have swirled for some time, and Lopez has gone on record to let us know what's up, on Wednesday, it was Rodriguez's turn to debunk the rumors and let the world know how he feels about his No. 1 lady love.

More: The Internet Thinks Jennifer Lopez Is Engaged, & They Might Be Right

On Wednesday, Rodriguez cohosted the third hour of Today with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. At one point during their chat, Gifford turned the conversation to Lopez, referencing a ring that Lopez was pictured wearing during her 49th birthday celebration: a stunning, huge bejeweled leopard head.

When asked when Rodriguez got it for her, he replied, "I did give her that ring. I gave her that ring probably about four or five months ago. I got her that ring. She loved it and look how beautiful she looks."

And of course, because it was perched on that very meaningful left ring finger, Gifford had to ask if it had any specific significance (read: an engagement) to which Rodriguez replied, "Of course it has a significance, [but] no, we're not engaged. We're not engaged."
