Patrick Duffy wants to reunite with Suzanne Somers

Patrick Duffy is feeling nostalgic. The actor recently revealed a desire to reunite with his old TV family. Following his return to Dallas, Duffy wants to revisit his other hit series, Step by Step.

Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Somers

Contrary to popular belief, Dallas isn't the only successful series on Patrick Duffy's resume. The veteran actor was the patriarch in the '90s comedy Step by Step. He starred alongside Suzanne Somers, and together they were Frank and Carol Lambert.

Two's company: Suzanne Somers and Joyce DeWitt reunite>>

Shortly after the end of the original Dallas, Duffy's career took a turn. He went from playing a rich oil heir to a middle-class father of six. Step by Step aired from 1991 to 1998 and was part of ABC's popular TGIF programming block.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Duffy wouldn't mind playing Frank one more time.

"I would love to work with Suzanne [Somers] again," said Duffy. "The Step by Step cast was so wonderful to be with. They were my family and I think a little two-hour special about where these people are — not a documentary, but actually doing a show — seeing where they've all come to over the years. It would be so fun to play that goofy Frank Lambert character again, aging another 25 years."

Make it so, Hollywood! If we can get a Veronica Mars movie, could the Lamberts get a second chance? If not, we'll take what we can get. Duffy recently reprised the role of Bobby Ewing for TNT's Dallas reboot. That's good enough for now.

Larry Hagman, better known as J.R. Ewing of Dallas, dead at 81>>

The drama, as soapy as ever, allowed Duffy to reunite with onscreen brother Larry Hagman before Hagman's death.

Dallas airs Mondays at 10/9c on TNT.

Glee recap: "Shooting Star"

0

When they said "Shooting Star," they didn't mean rising to fame. Arguably the most powerful episode of Glee yet, the show dealt with last chances through a very real school shooting scare at McKinley.

Glee cast

I knew it was going to be like no other episode of Glee when the warning popped up before the episode began, explaining that this episode dealt with school violence. It was like those warning signs that proclaim, "Not for the faint of heart."

Then Brittany comes on stage and explains that an asteroid is about to hit McKinley. Some of the kids at McKinley take the warning to heart and see it as a last chance to confess their deepest thoughts and desires. Brittany wants to make amends with Lord Tubbington. Ryder makes plans to finally meet his mystery online girl. Coach Beiste wants to lose her virginity to Mr. Schue . And Becky confesses she's afraid to graduate.

Funny right? Not when the gunshots sound.

Song #1: Elton John's "Your Song"

We heard rumors that Glee would be tackling the topic of school violence. But a school shooting? Is it too soon? Or a prevalent issue that television should be taking on?

During the shooting, the Glee kids make their real confessions through a phone video Artie uses to document their potential last words. Kitty admits she altered Marley's dresses to make her think she was fat. Most of the kids tell their family and friends how much they love them. Ryder calls his online girlfriend Katie. A phone rings in the glee club classroom, which means Katie is actually a student at McKinley.

Brittany and Sam in Glee

Luckily, no one was hurt during the episode of Glee.

What is Dianna Agron up to these days outside of Glee? >>

Song #2: Extreme's "More Than Words"

But, causing even more drama, we discover Sue is at fault. Turns out she keeps a gun in her office because it makes her feel safer. When she took it out of the safe to check it, it accidentally went off. She was so startled, she dropped it, and the gun went off a second time.

Needless to say, the school is firing Sue.

This brings up a whole new crop of issues. Should it be acceptable for teachers to carry weapons?

Mr. Schue doesn't buy Sue's story about the gun.

Song #3: John Mayer's "Say What You Need to Say"

In a flashback, we see that Mr. Schue is right to have his reservations. Turns out, Becky was feeling really nervous about graduating and being left out in the world. She tells Sue she needs help and proceeds to pull a loaded gun from her bag. Sue tells Becky to give her the gun, and when Becky does, she accidentally fires it.

Sue tells Mr. Schue to watch out for Becky. Hinting that Becky is tough but gets scared sometimes. Could Sue be gone from the show for good?

Meanwhile, Ryder goes to meet his mystery online girl. She doesn't show up or answer his texts.

The glee club kids are reasonably shaken by the school shooting incident. They meet in the auditorium for their own assembly in an attempt to deal with the fear.

Community recap: Singing puppets in hot air balloons

The study group transforms into puppets as part of a therapy session to rehash a hot air balloon adventure gone wrong. There are drugs, dirty secrets and a lot of singing!

The gang turns into puppets for therapy

The long awaited puppet episode finally arrived and it was worth the wait! Aside from turning the Greendale gang into wide-eyed, big-mouthed felt covered puppets, there were also a few memorable surprises along the way. This episode was actually a musical with a few original songs and two guest stars — Sara Bareilles and Jason Alexander.

James Brolin dishes on being Papa Winger >>

After a wild weekend in the woods, the gang regroups at Greendale, but no one wants to talk about their adventure. To inspire communication, Dean Pelton brings in puppets. It's supposed to be all the rage in therapy these days and help people open up about their feelings. It certainly worked.

Bored with their mundane routine, the group decides to take a hot air balloon ride, but they accidentally leave behind their guide, Sara Bareilles. They crash land in the middle of the woods and meet a mountain man who feeds them hallucinogenic berries. High on nature's fruit, they divulge their darkest secrets.

Chevy Chase leaves Community! >>

In their intoxicated state, everyone was doing a lot more talking than listening. Everyone remembers sharing their own secrets but can't remember hearing anyone else's. Unfortunately for Shirley, she confesses her secret again and is completely ashamed. In support, Jeff convinces the group to rehash everyone's secrets and here's what we learned:

Shirley once left her kids in a store to stalk her ex, Britta's only voting experience is with The Voice, Annie cheated in history class, Pierce never slept with Eartha Kitt, Jeff's just like his father and Abed has no real secrets.

Reliving the experience sober brought the group closer and they realized they all have more respect for each other. Except maybe not for Britta.

Hannibal recap: Bad therapy

0
0
Will Graham struggles with his feelings about killing for the first time and, ironically, goes to Dr. Lecter for some much needed therapy.

Will hunts another vicious killer

Will Graham is having a rough time. After being called in on a serial killer case by the FBI, he was forced to fire on and kill the murderer he had been hunting. Now, he's dealing with the aftermath of those emotions and it's starting to get in the way of his job. He's having nightmares and hallucinations. He's seeing dead people.

Don't know about Hannibal Lecter? He's one of the scariest villains of all time! >>

As if being paired up with Dr. Hannibal Lecter to solve murders wasn't enough, now Jack Crawford is forcing him to see the good doctor for some much needed therapy. However, opening up to a serial killer about your first kill is probably not the healthiest approach. And unstable Graham is already on the verge of crossing a dangerous line between understanding murderers and being one himself.

In the end of the episode, Graham finally opens up about the fact that he doesn't feel guilty about killing Garret Jacob Hobbs. In fact, he liked it. It gave him a rush that he hadn't felt before. Hannibal then gives him a disturbing lecture about how killing is a part of life and even God does it, using the example that God caved in a roof on top of 34 church goers recently. When Will asked how that made God feel, Hannibal eerily responded, "Powerful." Shudder. It was super creepy.

Hugh Dancy and Claire Danes welcome a baby boy! >>

This week Will and Jack were hunting another vicious killer who liked to bury people alive and feed them through tubes so they would survive longer. He "planted" them like they were in a garden and tried to turn them into fertilizer. One unfortunate victim was still alive when they dug him up, even though his flesh had rotted away to mostly bone.

Will's a little trigger happy these days and he shot that psycho when he found him. But, he didn't kill him. He's showing some restraint, for the time being.

Stay up to date with all things Hannibal! Subscribe to our newsletter>>

Last but not least, Garret Jacob Hobbs' daughter is still alive, but she's in a coma. Jack thinks she was actually helping Garret lure in his victims, but Will refuses to believe it. There was certainly an accomplice, so it's likely there are more gruesome murders around the bend.

Parents find creative ways to fill children’s needs

How many times have you thought wow, I wish someone would invent [fill in the blank]? Meet three parents who fulfilled a need for their children with special needs through creative means.

Chat Bag

Chat Bag

Lori Holbrook’s daughter, Hannah, has Down syndrome, autism and apraxia of speech. In 2010, she began using an iPad as a communication device.

"This was a very exciting time for us to have this amazing device, but I never could find anything that allowed her to carry her iPad easily and functionally," Lori shares. "Every bag out there had to be unbuttoned, unzipped or unvelcroed and was not functional or easy for Hannah."

Lori sketched out an idea that would give Hannah a bag that exposed the screen at all times, with adjustable straps and a fun, cool fabric. CHAT Bag went online in January 2012 and has sold to families nationwide and in four countries.

The name CHAT Bag originated because "Hannah had her iPad to CHAT with us. At first CHAT stood for Children Have A Tool. Later in 2012, we decided to change it to a more universal logo/acronym because not just special needs individuals were using CHAT Bags. Now the acronym stands for "Communication Has A Tool."

"CHAT Bags are all hand-made in the U.S. by family and friends," Lori shares proudly. "There is a lot of TLC that goes into making each bag."

Buddy Bike

Buddy Bike

It’s inevitable — every kid wants a bike. But sometimes children with special needs might not be able to go it alone. The Buddy Bike offers a unique tandem bike-riding experience by placing the smaller rider in the front seat while the rear rider controls the steering. Most other cycling options seat the smaller rider in the back, which can be too risky with a child with special needs.

Barry Nelson, the father of a child with autism, began searching for a bicycle to use with his son Jesse, who wasn’t able to ride by himself or behind his father on a traditional tandem bike. Barry purchased a used "Love Bike," the bike's original name.

"As Jesse and I enjoyed the bike and received so many smiling looks along the way, I began to think about the many parents and children who could benefit from this design," Barry explains on the company’s website.

"I contacted the inventor, Robert Gardner, offered to purchase the patent, and in 2005 a Special Needs Irrevocable Trust for the benefit of Jesse purchased the rights to the patent for the bicycle as well as the remaining inventory." The Buddy Bike was born.

Caroline’s Cart

Caroline's Cart

Drew Ann Long’s 12-year-old daughter Caroline has Rett Syndrome. She was 6 years old when Drew started to think about the special needs shopping cart now called Caroline's Cart.

When Caroline was small, any shopping cart worked. "As she grew older and bigger, it was clear that I would soon have to find another option because she would no longer fit in the cart."

Pushing both Caroline in a wheelchair and a grocery cart at the same time didn't work, so Drew's only options were to find a sitter for Caroline, bring someone to push her wheelchair or take Caroline shopping with her and only purchase what she could carry while pushing the wheelchair.

"Eventually, my frustration turned to innovation," Drew explains. "This was started on a cocktail napkin at my kitchen table," she shares. "I knew I was onto something when I went public with my idea and prototype on Facebook."

With support from Easter Seals, Caroline's Cart began selling in October 2012 and now helps customers in 17 states.

Drew has simple but powerful advice for other parents with an idea. "Do your research and never give up!"

Kristen Stewart's $40k b-day present from Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are still going strong, and he shows her the love with a pricey bauble with a very sweet inscription.

Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson

Guess when they were crooning "Forever!" at each other at the end of Twilight, they really meant it: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson enjoyed a sweet birthday celebration this week, according to Star.

Stewart just turned 23 April 9, and Pattinson gave her a lovely birthday gift worth an astonishing $40,000.

The gift in question? According to Star, it's an antique platinum and gold locket.

Inside, Rob put photos of the couple inside, along with inscription: "Even if you can’t see me, my love for you is always there."

Excuse me, there is something in my eye.

Why was Kristen Stewart limping at the Oscars?>>

"She was really touched — it was so incredibly sweet," a source told Star. "She's been in tears, saying she can't face being away from Rob for too long and that it physically hurts her."

Young love!

Stewart and Pattinson have been spotted together recently, including at a Los Angeles bar and a birthday party for Katy Perry's assistant, The Hollywood Gossip reported March 21.

Yay! Affleck and Stewart won't make out on film!>>

In Touch Weekly also reported that Stewart has had a renewed interest in the relationship: Before the cheating scandal with Rupert Sanders, "Kristen played hard to get," an associate of Pattinson's tells the tabloid. "Not anymore. She’s going out of her way to prove herself."

To that end, In Touch says, Stewart's been being more friendly with fans and signing autographs, plus hanging out with Pattinson's friends and going to a Hanson show together.

Will the next Robsten headline be a wedding announcement? Only time will tell.

INTERVIEW: Julia Stiles talks It's a Disaster

0

After memorable turns in films such as Silver Linings Playbook and shows like Dexter, her career is anything but disastrous but in her new film, she faces impending doom.

We've watched her in mainstream films like Ten Things I Hate About You and Save the Last Dance more times than we can count, but these days Julia Stiles gravitates toward smaller projects.

The actress recently appeared in the web series Blue as a single mother/escort and is set to star as Mary Pickford in the biopic The First.

Her latest project, It's a Disaster , centers on four couples who meet for brunch only to discover the world is ending. Tensions flare and emotions collide as the group is forced to remain in the same house with one another during the onset of the apocalypse.

Julia Stiles turns 30>>

SheKnows had the chance to chat with Stiles about changes in the film industry, the confines of working with a single set and where she would not want to be on doomsday.

SheKnows: One thing that’s so great about It's a Disaster is that the male and female characters have very dynamic well-constructed backstories, and that’s rare. Sometimes women kind of fall by the wayside; they’re not as well-developed. Would you say it’s rare to find a script like this?

Julia Stiles: What I liked about the script is that it’s specific to Todd Berger’s sense of humor, which is very witty and character-driven. That I think is kind of rare. It’s not just one gag after another. There’s a well-crafted plot. I don’t really decide if I’m going to work on something based on if it’s rare, it’s more just an instinct and if I would want to go see this movie. When I read the script I was laughing and that made me want to be a part of it. I do like also in an ensemble comedy [that] all the characters are very distinct and different.

Julia Stiles releases emotions on Dexter& airport>>

SK: What about in terms of female characters?

JS: The actresses in the movie got together and had dinner one night before we started shooting, and we were all looking at each other going, 'Todd Berger must really like women, or understand women because he wrote four very full characters for the girls.'

SK: That was one of the great things about it. And did you find that it was constricting to have one specific wardrobe and be confined to one setting the whole time?

JS: No, I thought it was great. First of all, it made it really easy to drive to work every day. I live in New York and I had a tendency to get lost in L.A. It also kind of simplified everything... so much more about these people and less about the location.

SK: There have been a lot of changes to the film industry in recent years: Online shows are common — you’ve starred in one — and video on demand is common where people can access a movie right in their home. You’ve been in this business a long time. How would you say these changes affect your choices as an actress, if they do at all?

JS: I still make my choices based on the material, and if it’s something that I would want to watch, and also, usually if it’s people that I want to work with, and a role I think I can contribute to, regardless of the platform, but I do take [that] into consideration. I think that distribution platforms are hard to predict, also. So I’m sort of open to any platform as long as it’s a story that I’m interested in. You know, I sometimes worry about attention span. If you have an audience in a theater, you can have a story that evolves slowly. But if you’re competing with Facebook and you’re competing with email, you’re competing with whatever is going on in the house — [like] phone calls — then I’m kind of a purist. I still feel like good stories and well-made movies will find an audience.

For It's a Disaster, I was friends with Todd , Kevin , Blaise and Jeff and David , and I just knew their comedic work, and had done some viral videos with them, just shorts, and for me I wanted to work with my friends, and people who I thought had a cool sensibility and a cool sense of humor. We had no idea if it was going to get distribution or not, and if anyone would ever see the movie, and the fact that there’s been a response is, really, affirmation of my instincts.

SK: Tracy goes through so many emotions in such a short time. How did you manage to pull that off?

JS: You just do, it’s sort of the job. I have a vivid imagination, and I’m pretty emotional all the time, so it wasn’t that hard. It was also like a thousand degrees in that house, and I think that heightened everyone’s emotions.

SK: It did look very natural, the interactions between the cast and everything, and I think it’s a testament to your relationships before you started working on it.

JS: We also — instead of having trailers in our downtime, partially because of the budget but it ended up being something that we embraced — we would hang out in the house across the street from where we were shooting, and I think that allowed the cast to bond in a way that’s really special, and lasted beyond the movie. It wasn’t just for the movie, we all got along. It wasn’t just for the sake of making the movie.

SK: Would you say that a lot of the dialogue was improvised?

JS: It would be structured — Todd wrote a very good script, so we definitely wanted to be respectful of that — and within each scene there was a structure of what’s supposed to happen in the scene and there were certainly great one-liners that we all wanted to hit, but once it got done, he would allow us to improvise if we wanted to.

SK: The film is about being trapped in a situation that you may not want to be in when the world is ending. Is there any place you would absolutely not want to be if there was an impending apocalypse possibly?

JS: A shopping mall.

Healthy kids: The importance of child nutrition and exercise

As parents, part of our job is to instill healthy habits in our children from the time they are young. Talk about healthy foods, prepare nutritious meals and snacks, and incorporate regular exercise into your daily family routine to help kids develop habits that last a lifetime.
Family preparing healthy dinner

As parents, part of our job is to instill healthy habits in our children from the time they are young. Talk about healthy foods, prepare nutritious meals and snacks, and incorporate regular exercise into your daily family routine to help kids develop habits that last a lifetime.

Feed your kids healthy foods they enjoy

Talk about healthy foods

From the time your little ones are toddlers, they can start learning about healthy foods. Don't keep unhealthy, processed foods in your home and avoid the drive-through as much as possible.

Head to the farmers market – The farmers market is the perfect place for kids to learn about where food comes from. Here, you can teach them about the differences between whole foods and processed foods. Let your children explore the market and find new fruits and vegetables that they have never tried before.

Let kids be part of the meal planning – Children are more likely to try new foods if they are involved in making them. Bring kids into the kitchen, where they can help prepare your meals. Young children can wash fruit, tear lettuce and set the table. Older kids can actually do some of the cooking. Together, your family can look through cookbooks and plan meals together.

Make a colorful plate – Color is fun — and it's nutritious. When you are planning a meal, make sure to include plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables. Your family should eat a rainbow every day to get a variety of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

Snacks can be nutritious and delicious

Mom and daughter eating yogurt

When kids think of snacks, they imagine things like candy, cookies, chips and ice cream — but it doesn't have to be that way. You can find snacks that your kids will love that are nutritious too.

Start with yogurt – Yogurt can be a healthy afternoon snack for children. Be sure to read the labels and avoid yogurt that contains added sugar. Plain Greek yogurt topped with fresh fruit and a little granola is a tasty option for a snack or for breakfast.

Find something crunchy – Crunchy doesn't necessarily mean greasy potato chips. Nuts and seeds are crunchy and can provide a dose of "healthy" fats. If kids insist on chips, look for baked chips at the store, or consider baking your own sweet potato chips at home.

Make fruit available – Keep a bowl of fresh fruit out and available to your kids. You can also make a designated drawer or box of other nutritious snacks and let your kids know that they can choose one or two items from it whenever they need a snack.

Kidz ZonePerfect Nutrition BarsChoose store-bought snacks carefully – Just because something is labeled healthy or nutritious doesn't mean that it actually is. Kidz ZonePerfect Nutrition Bars combine flavors created by kids with protein and other nutritious ingredients that please parents. Each bar contains 23 vitamins and minerals, 5 grams of protein and a kid-friendly 3 grams of fiber. You can find Kidz ZonePerfect bars at grocery stores, drugstores and other retailers. ZonePerfect Nutrition products also can be ordered online at abbottstore.com.

Get moving as a family

Family biking together

Health isn't all about diet. Children need exercise too. Stay active as a family. Incorporate exercise into your daily lives — it's great for your health and for family bonding.

Limit screen time – TV and video games can be great — in small doses. Instead of plopping on the couch in front of the TV every night after dinner, go for a walk or a bike ride around the block together. Put some limits on your family screen time and stick to them. If your kids just must play video games, choose active games on the Wii or Xbox Kinect.

Get outdoors – Spring is here and the weather is perfect for getting outdoors with your family. Consider joining a family softball or basketball league. Take your kids to the park regular for hiking — or even just tossing around the Frisbee.

Set a good example – You can't expect your children to embrace exercise if they never see you get off the couch or move away from your computer screen in the evenings. Parents are their children's best role models. Stop driving to places that you can walk. Don't use the elevator when you have the option to use the stairs. If they always see you moving, your kids will follow your lead.

Obesity rates in our country are astronomical. Help your children stay healthy no — and throughout their lives — by putting an emphasis on healthy eating and daily exercise.

Comedic actor Jonathan Winters dies at 87

The legendary comedic actor is credited for inspiring some of the best actors today. He passed away Thursday at his home.

Jonathan Winters

Many millennials may not know who Jonathan Winters is, but they probably know his voice. Winter, 87, died Thursday at his home in Montecito, California of natural causes, said the Associated Press.

Robin Williams to play president of the U.S. >>

Winters was a regular on the 1980s TV show Mork and Mindy and is said to have inspired many stand-up comics, including Robin Williams, Steve Martin and Jim Carrey.

Winters’ website had a short note that read only: "Rest in Peace, Mr. Winters." According to the Internet Movie Database, Tonight Show host Jack Paar once called him “pound for pound, the funniest man alive”.

Red... um, blue-hot trailer: The Smurfs 2>>

“Winters' career began when he won a talent contest in Dayton, Ohio, which led to radio gigs and appearances at comedy clubs, along with comedy albums,” says USA Today. “He was a favorite guest on the late night TV circuit for decades, often appearing with Jack Paar, Johnny Carson and Steve Allen. And he often performed in character. One of his best known was Maude Frickert, an old lady with a quick and acid wit. He had his own TV show in the 1950s.”

Winters was also seen in almost 50 movies, including the 1963 film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, The Russians are Coming The Russians Are Coming and The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh. In the 1970s he also had his own show, The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters. Children may know him best as the voice of Papa Smurf in 2011’s The Smurfs and the upcoming The Smurfs 2, but he has been doing voices on cartoons for decades. He also played the character of Grandpa Smurf on the original TV show.

Longtime friend Joe Petro III spoke with Reuters about his friend.

"Jon's a great man, a genius, and we've lost a genius," he said. "How do you explain working with a genius who you grew up watching on Johnny Carson? Jon was Jon. He was the same way offscreen as on-screen."

Healthy eating vs. exercise

0

A survey finds that many people spend less time working out in order to prepare meals.

eating

Healthy eating and exercise are both valuable components of a healthy lifestyle, but do you have to sacrifice one for the other? Turns out, many of us might.

According to a new survey based on U.S. Census data, increasing the time to prepare meals by 10 minutes was linked to a lower likelihood of exercising for 10 more minutes.

Ohio State University researchers say the finding was the same for men and women who were single and married, along with people who did and did not have kids.

So while spending extra time to chop up produce for a meal may be good, it can take time away from another healthy habit such as hitting the treadmill or getting your stretch on in yoga.

The researchers say that public health recommendations need to take into account the time people devote to beneficial lifestyle habits on a given day.

“If we assume, for example, that adults have 45 minutes of free time to allocate to health-promoting behaviors, maybe we need to look at that holistically and determine the optimal way to use that time,” said lead author Rachel Tumin, a doctoral student in epidemiology at the university.

Tumin and her colleagues report that 16 percent of men and 12 percent of women said they had exercised the previous day. The average amount of time spent exercising was 19 minutes for men and 9 minutes for women. On the flip side, the average amount of time men spent preparing meals on the same day was about 17 minutes, while women took 44 minutes to get meals ready.

The study shows that both sexes spent less than an hour on meal preparation and exercise on the same day.

But that doesn’t mean that people put in less time breaking a sweat – the scientists say the survey only covered a 24-hour period, so they aren’t sure if some adults dedicate one day a week to meal preparation, and another for a workout.

Avocado and spicy lime shrimp ceviche

Elegant doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, it can be quick and easy when you let the flavors of the freshest, in-season foods shine through — like in this recipe for fresh avocado stuffed with succulent and spicy lime shrimp ceviche.

Avocado and spicy lime shrimp ceviche

Ceviche can seem a little intimidating since it relies on acid to change the pH of food, essentially cooking it chemically rather than using heat. Blanching the shrimp for just a few seconds will take the scary out of the technique, allowing you to first par-cook and then to finish the process with a flavor-packed acid. The avocado itself makes a nifty serving bowl for the shrimp, keeping cleanup a breeze, and the entire recipe takes only 20 minutes. And since it's served chilled, it makes the perfect light lunch on a hot summer day.

Avocado and spicy lime shrimp ceviche recipe

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 20 small shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 limes, zested and juiced
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup finely diced celery
  • 1/4 cup finely diced radish
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 avocado, sliced in half lengthwise, pit removed
  • 1 cup chopped romaine

Directions:

  1. In a pot of salted boiling water, blanch shrimp for 30 seconds. Transfer shrimp to an ice bath, and let stand 15 seconds. Drain shrimp and transfer to a shallow bowl or baking dish, and set aside. In a small bowl, combine lime juice, honey, oil, garlic, jalapeño and cilantro. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour over shrimp. Cover and shake pan to coat shrimp. Refrigerate 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and paprika. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Dice avocado inside its shell by running a knife along the inside lengthwise and then across to make a checkerboard pattern, without cutting through the skin. Set aside.
  3. Remove shrimp from refrigerator and uncover. Toss in celery, radish and lettuce. Spoon shrimp mixture into each avocado half. Top with paprika and mayo. Serve cold.

Avocado Tip

Air is the enemy of an avocado, turning it brown and downright ugly. Rubbing an acidic fruit, such as lemon or lime, over the exposed flesh won't completely prevent oxidation, but will buy you some time. When storing leftover avocado, use plastic wrap, pressing the wrap against the flesh of the avocado to prevent air from touching it.

In the photo below, Kendall Jenner poses next to her photo shot by famed Victoria's Secret photographer, Russell James. Kendall gushed about the possibility of posing for the iconic lingerie brand, Victoria's Secret.

Can you picture Kendall Jenner walking down the Victoria's Secret runway? Kendall hopes so — the 17-year-old daughter of Kris and Bruce Jenner says she's set her sights on a pair of angel wings and lingerie as she gushed at the thought of becoming a Victoria's Secret Angel.

Kendall Jenner: I can't gain weight>>

E! News chatted with Kendall Jenner at a photography exhibit by Russell James, who is known for his work with several Victoria's Secret models.

The celebrity news site asked Kendall if she would be open to modeling for Victoria's Secret and Jenner couldn't contain her excitement.

"It's always been kind of a dream of mine," said Kendall. "It's a very great thing to do, and it's something I'd love to do." Kendall says her modeling career is more of a solo gig since her sister, Kylie, aims for more of a career like big sister Kim Kardashian.

Kendall Jenner lands on the cover of Seventeen>>

"Me and Kylie are sisters, but not everything we can always do together," explained Kendall. "She's not trying to be a model. She's trying to be more like a personality. We're trying to kind of separate ourselves — not in a bad way!"

Given Kim Kardashian's move into celebrity status — the infamous pornographic video with then-boyfriend Ray J — perhaps it's not surprising Kendall Jenner isn't shy about the thought of modeling lingerie.

The Kardashians profit off their sexy, sultry looks and it seems Kendall Jenner may be following in her older sister's footsteps if she decides to trade high fashion for sex appeal with Victoria's Secret.

Aw! Shakira brings baby Milan to The Voice

You'll never find truer insight than that of a child. Maybe that's why Shakira brought baby Milan onto the set of The Voice?

Shakira brings baby Milan to work on The Voice

It's never too early to instill a love of music into your baby... or to set him on his intended career path. Shakira's insanely hot boyfriend, footballer Gerard Pique, would probably prefer that baby Milan grow up to play footie for Barcelona, just like his padre. However, it looks like The Voice's sexy new coach and international sensation has different plans for her baby boy. Like, maybe a stint as a coach on The Voice's 40th season, after he's grown up quite a bit and found himself as successful musician in his own right?

Milan's big birth announcement! >>

A mama can dream. And prepare. It looks like that's exactly what she was going on Thursday when Shakira showed up with 11-week-old Milan on her lap for the taping of the newest episode of The Voice.

OK, OK. It's a lot more likely that her babysitter was sick or she just wanted to spend some quality time with that precious pipsqueak. And who could blame her? We wouldn't want to set that cutie down, either.

Don't let those sweet cheeks fool you, though. According to Shakira's tweets, Milan was one tough critic. He watched intently during one performance and his proud mama said he seemed "intrigued." During another, though, Milan grew fussy and his working mom tweeted, "Uh oh, I don't think he liked that performance!"

Milan's mommy is a knight in shining armor?>>

After helping his mom put the contestants in their places, what's next for Milan? Our guess is one long nap. If you ask us, he and his hard-working mommy both deserve one.

Shakira and Usher have breathed fresh air into the music-inspired contest and we love watching them interact with Blake and Adam. These latest shots of Milan were just icing on the cake. We adore Christina and can't wait for her return, but if they wanted to keep Shakira around, too, we certainly wouldn't protest!

Kris Humphries fails to show up in divorce court

Kim Kardashian held up her end of the bargain, but her estranged husband Kris Humphries failed to show up in court on Friday after they were ordered by the judge to appear. A divorce trial moves forward May 6.

KrisHumphriesdivorce

For someone who has dragged out divorce proceedings for over a year and a half, you'd think Kris Humphries would want his day in court. However, on Friday, the NBA player failed to show up to a mandatory court appearance.

Both Humphries and his soon-to-be ex-wife Kim Kardashian were ordered by the judge in the case to show up for a settlement hearing to hopefully avoid a trial. The pregnant Kardashian held up her end of the bargain and show up dressed conservatively in white pants and a silver tunic. She looked pretty serious and focused throughout the hearing.

According to an E! News source, the Brooklyn Nets player had an issue with his flight from New York to Los Angeles. This was an excuse similar to the one used by Lindsay Lohan in her recent court appearance.

For fans following this long, drawn-out divorce, there was not a huge media onslaught in the courtroom. Judge Hank Goldberg ordered the media out and said, "The nature of settlement and settlement conferences under the evidence code are confidential."

The attorneys for both parties were satisfied with that decision.

As for the athlete, failing to show up in court could possibly have consequences.

Lynn Soodik, a Certified Family Law Specialist not involved in the case, told E! News, "It's really bad if he didn't appear and he didn't get permission not to be here. It seems like it's not as important to him."

Kim Kardashian insists she really loved her ex>>

TMZ reported that the judge was not happy and set a sanction meeting for Humphries. He may be hit with fines for his failure to appear.

No settlement was reached on Friday between the feuding parties and it appears a trial will begin on May 6 as previously scheduled. There is one final settlement conference scheduled for April 19 which would be the last step in avoiding a trial. Both Kardashian and her ex have remained firm on not giving in, with Humphries insisting on an annulment and more money outside of the prenuptial agreement.

Hopefully, this case can be resolved before Kardashian has her first child with Kanye West in July, because waiting over a year for a divorce in a 72-day marriage is excruciating.

Amanda Bynes isolates herself from concerned family

In a new round of bizarre tweets, Amanda Bynes made it clear she's cut off all communication with her family and lashed out at the reporters who have publicly voiced their concern for the seemingly troubled actress.

Amanda Bynes

Amanda Bynes seems to be in a bit of downward spiral lately. Bynes insists that fans — and curious onlookers — follow her on Twitter and avoid the press for up-to-date and accurate information about the once popular teenage celebrity.

Amanda Bynes denies "erratic behavior">>

And while Bynes tries to convince the public she's fine, her Twitter account reveals the actress is clearly struggling. In her latest Twitter rant, Bynes explained she has cut off all communication with her family and that fans shouldn't trust what her friends say about her to the media.

Bynes tweeted on Thursday, "I don't speak to my parents anymore, they don't talk to reporters on my behalf. Don't believe anything you read about me unless I tweet it."

She continued, "My friends don't speak on my behalf either. Please don't read anything about me needing help. That offends me. Follow me on twitter!"

Amanda Bynes gets sexually explicit on Twitter about Drake>>

About an hour later, Bynes went off on gossip blogger Perez Hilton over Hilton's concerns about her behavior.

Tweeted Bynes: "@perezhilton I'm so sick of u saying ur sincerely worried about me. At least pick a photo from my twitter if u won't stop talking about me."

She continued to vent: "@perezhilton leave me alone! You are the scum of the earth!! Pick better photos f****r!"

As of this morning, Bynes seemed to be a little more relaxed as she tweeted, "Twerking Out" to her over 600,000 followers.

What happened to Amanda Bynes? We're worried>>

We're not sure why Bynes is so adamant that she's not in touch with her family. Back in April 2012, her dad publicly denied his daughter had a drinking problem despite her DUI charge.

"She was not drunk," Rick Bynes said to People magazine. "My daughter doesn't drink."

We follow Amanda Bynes on Twitter and have to admit that she may just be helping create the public image she currently loathes.

VIDEO: Gwen Sebastian on Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert

SheKnows caught up with the country singer on the red carpet of the ACM Awards, where she spilled about hanging out and working with Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.

Gwen Sebastian

Gwen Sebastian has been singing for a while, but America was introduced to this North Dakota girl on the second season of NBC's singing competiton, The Voice. While she didn't win , her coach, Blake Shelton, took her under his wing, and now she is touring with both Blake and his wife, Miranda Lambert.

Check out Sebastian's blind audition from Season 2 of The Voice >>

Personally, I love to hear when celebrities are just as cool in real life as they seem on television, and Sebastian says that Blake and Miranda don't disappoint.

"They're cool human beings. They give back. They take care of their own and root people on."

Sebastian calls Miranda, "distinctive" and "pure," explaining, "She's exactly who she is."

So what is it like being on tour with two of the biggest country superstars around? According to Sebastian, it's just as fun as you'd think it would be.

"Because the boss [Shelton] is nice, it trickles down and everyone else is nice," she says.

Blake and Miranda tweet about those pesky cheating rumors >>

Not only have Blake and Miranda welcomed Gwen into the country world, they've also given her advice, telling her to stay true to herself because that's what it's all about! Sebastian goes on to explain that staying true to yourself is especially important in country music because it's "the people’s music."

Look for Sebastian’s new album coming out in June, which will include a track featuring Miranda and a few additional guests — her parents! Music runs in the family.

Kelly Ripa on Regis Philbin: "I haven't seen him, no"

0

Kelly Ripa admitted on Wednesday that she doesn't keep in touch with former co-host Regis Philbin. Did they have a falling out, or are they both just too darn busy?

Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa

They made such a great morning talk-show team, so it may surprise fans of the old Live with Regis and Kelly show that the two do not stay in touch. Kelly Ripa admitted that fact to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday. She and her current co-host, Michael Strahan, were named to the magazine's "35 Most Powerful People in Media" list.

When asked if she has seen her former co-host, who retired in November 2011, she only stated, "I haven't seen him, no."

It's hard to imagine that the duo, who were so friendly on air for years, haven't even managed a phone call or an email. Regis Philbin, who previously hosted the show with Kathie Lee Gifford, was instrumental in getting Ripa the job back in 2001 when she was still under contract at All My Children.

Face it! Kelly Ripa joins these other Botox beauties>>

However, it seems like there is no animosity between the two TV personalities — they probably just have busy schedules. Ripa, who is a mother of three, has continued her spokesperson duties for Electrolux and Ryka in addition to her Live gig. Beginning Aug. 17, Philbin will be hosting a daily sports talk show on Fox Sports 1.

THR also asked Ripa about similarities between Philbin and her current sidekick. She was happy to share that, "they’re both incredible storytellers. They are both fiercely competitive, and they're both incredible football players."

The feud Kelly Ripa and Rosie O'Donnell just can't let go of>>

OK, we doubt the 81-year-old is a great football player, but audiences will remember that he was fiercely loyal to his alma mater Notre Dame's football team. Even the 41-year-old Strahan has retired from the football field, but he still participates in the sport by commentating for Fox NFL Sunday.

Either way, Philbin only has good things to say about both his replacement and his former co-star.

He told Us Weekly in October, "He's got a good sense of humor. He's a good guy. I think they're doing great."

From breakout stars to award-winning veterans, here's a look at this week's casting announcements.

Hailee SteinfeldThis week marked some super exciting casting announcements! From an acting legend joining Johnny Depp's latest film to the forthcoming Kung Fu Panda follow-up, here are some casting news highlights.

Morgan Freeman is in talks to join Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Kate Mara for Wally Pfister's directorial debut Transcendence. Pfister served as the cinematographer for Christopher Nolan's Batman films, in which Freeman had a supporting role. The plot of the drama has been kept under wraps, so it's not clear whom the Oscar-winner will play in the film.

Rebecca Hall to star opposite Johnny Depp in Transcendence >>

Jason Statham's Heat remake is picking up steam! It was reported last month that Statham is set to team with Sophia Vergara for a reboot of the 1986 Burt Reynold's film. This week, it was revealed that Stanley Tucci, Anne Heche and Cedric the Entertainer will also join the cast of the action flick. The project is currently filming in New Orleans and will later shoot in Las Vegas.

Sofia Vergara to star in Heat remake >>

Veep star Timothy Simons has signed on to star in Ivan Reitman's Draft Day. The actor joins an impressive cast list that includes Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner and Denis Leary. Simons will portray an impassioned scout in the film, which is based on Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman's Black List screenplay.

Hailee Steinfeld is joining Meryl Streep, Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee Jones for The Homesman. The film centers on a claim jumper and pioneer woman who escorted three mentally insane woman from the prairie to civilization. The 16-year-old, who is best known for her Oscar-nominated role in True Grit, will star as a poor teenager named Tabitha.

Hailee Steinfeld Prada ad banned in Britain >>

In The Impossible, he stole our hearts and most of the scenes he was in. Now Tom Hollander is set to star in Ron Howard's In the Heart of The Sea. Based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s In The Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, the adventure flick features Thor hunk Chris Hemsworth.

The Kung Fu Panda 3 cast packs a punch. It was announced earlier this week that Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen and Rebel Wilson will all lend their voices to this animated film. The third movie in the franchise already has original cast members Angelina Jolie and Jack Black attached. Unfortunately, audiences will have to wait until Dec. 23, 2015, to see the film.
