What to Do If You Want to Use Sex Toys With Your Partner, but They Don't

$

0

Sex toys can enhance masturbation — there is no doubt about that. The first time I used a vibrator, I decided then and there I couldn't live without it. Since that day, I have not masturbated sans sex toy. I am now the proud owner of a bunch of different shapes and sizes — a collector of sorts.

But it's one thing to enjoy a mind-blowing orgasm on your own where you feel free to be yourself with no holding back and quite another to incorporate a sex toy with your partner.

Some people are open to the idea of accessories during sex and don't feel that a sex toy is replacing them, but rather adding to the experience or keeping things spicy. But this isn't case for everyone. We all have reservations about things concerning our bodies or sexual habits and that is OK.

More: How to Ask for What You Want in Bed

But what do you do if you really want to introduce a toy in the bedroom and your partner doesn't seem into it?

To find out, we spoke with Beatty Cohan, a psychotherapist and sex therapist, as well as Dr. Emily Morse of Sex with Emily who both offered tips to help couples who are not seeing eye to eye when it comes to introducing sex toys in the bedroom.

Be open

First of all, be sensitive to the fact that these conversations can be hard and can make us all feel vulnerable — especially if we aren't sure our partner is going to be game to try some new things. But this where it starts — with a conversation. Cohan says that the person who wants to introduce the sex toys needs to be OK with talking about the reasons they want to use them.

Morse suggests avoiding having these talks right before or after sex, since emotions run very high for most during these times.

Be honest

Those who want to enjoy sex toys with their partner should feel they can be open and honest about that, but so should the partner who is being asked how they feel. If you aren't OK with this new idea, no matter what the reason, you should feel comfortable enough to be honest and share with your partner why it might not be for you. By having this talk, you may come to a compromise, but you also may not. Remember that this is just one aspect of your sex life and to respect each other's boundaries.

Don't be pushy

If your partner isn't into introducing sex toys, sex machines or things like blindfolds or bondage, don't push them or try to change their mind unless they say they are open to it.

Morse stresses the importance of being positive and encouraging your partner, telling them how wonderful they are. A good way to make them feel at ease would be to let them know they touched you in a certain place you loved and suggest trying lubes or vibrations in that same spot.

Experiment without expectation

If your partner seems open, experiment first without the expectation this will be your new normal. Your partner may love it, but they may also hate it. Or they may feel that it's something they are willing to do some of the time, but not on the regular. Whatever the outcome, respect their feelings.

Along the same lines, Morse says it's important to start small — especially if your partner is worried about being replaced by a battery-powered (or USB-recharging) device.

MoreWhy the Brain Is Our Most Important Sex Organ

Ask questions

Never be afraid to ask questions. For instance, Cohan says that it's reasonable to ask your partner specific questions about why they aren't willing to try sex toys and see if it has something to do with their past. It may turn out they had a bad experience with a former partner and may not want to give it another try. And that's completely normal and fine. Or maybe they had a less-than-stellar time with a sex toy but are willing to give it another go — the important thing is to listen to your partner and never proceed with anything new without their consent.

"People must never do anything in or out of the bedroom that makes them feel uncomfortable unless they are willing to try," Cohan says.

If your partner is up for trying it out, you may want to start with a sex toy designed to be used by two people, like Touch by We-Vibe, the Lovehoney Desire Remote Control Love Egg vibrator or Eva II by Dame Products. This way, the toy isn't replacing another person, but rather enhancing the experience for everyone — and it's hard to argue with that!

Cleaning Hacks for the Woman With Zero Extra Time

$

If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that there's just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Work, kids, partners, pets, laundry, dinner — the list grows exponentially. Like gremlins. And one of the biggest time-suckers of all turns out to be cleaning, a task that can eat up hours upon hours each week. In the immortal words of Kimberly "Sweet Brown" Wilkins, "Ain't nobody got time for that."

Seriously, though, there has to be a better way, right? While cleaning is a necessary evil, we've got places to be and people to see — we need sprucing up to be as expedited as possible. Happily, there are hacks for busy women like you and me who have zero extra seconds in the day to devote to tedious cleaning.

So, if your motto is "Work smarter, not harder," bookmark this page. As a busy mom of two, I have learned some pretty great hacks that will save you a whole lot of time. Here are some of my favorites.

1. Use a pillowcase to clean ceiling fans

The blades of your ceiling fan draw dust in like a moth to the flame. We're all friends here, so there's no shame in admitting you usually don't get to this hard-to-reach area until you've got dust so thick it looks like fuzzy black caterpillars. When you go to clean it, the dust then inevitably falls all over the floor, meaning you now have to tack on time to vacuum or mop too. Make your life easier by stealing this trick from Homemaker Chic: Use a pillowcase to dust your ceiling fan blades so all the dust is contained.

2. Dust with a lint roller

While we're on the subject of dusting, do you ever wonder where the dust goes with traditional dusters? Like, aren't you basically just pushing the dust around from one place to another? Therein lies the genius of using a lint roller as a duster — the sticky stuff grabs dust so it doesn't simply resettle when you aren't looking. This hack works especially well on cloth lampshades.

3. Get rid of dog hair with a rubber glove

We all love our pups, but constantly trying to keep their shedding at bay is the bane of any dog owner's existence (unless you have one of those bizarre but adorable hairless dogs). Brooms prove to be of little use in this battle because the hair just gets blown somewhere else in the process. If you're tired of cleaning the same upholstered areas over and over to get rid of your dog's hair, do this instead — use a rubber glove with a textured palm surface, like heavy-duty dishwashing gloves, to scrape the hair off of your couch or carpet. You can also use a glass squeegee if you happen to have one lying around.

4. Pour Pine-Sol in your toilet brush holder

The ol' toilet brush — ick. It needs to stay on standby in the bathroom, but it can get so gross. But instead of tossing yours out every other day, pour Pine-Sol down into the toilet brush holder. Not only will it clean and sanitize your brush, but it will also make your bathroom smell fresh.

5. Power(tool) clean your tub & shower

You'll never meet a person who enjoys cleaning the soap scum and mildew that naturally accumulates in the bathroom. Well, unless that person utilizes this hack. Basically, it entails modifying a scrub brush to fit onto a power-drill head. Then you can basically just buff grime right out of your bathroom with minimal effort. You can learn how to do it here.

6. Blow bathroom exhaust fans with canned air

File this under super-simple yet incredibly clever ideas you can't believe you never thought of. If you go into your bathroom and look up, chances are you're going to be staring straight into a bathroom exhaust fan that is so dirty, you almost can't see the vents. But it's in such an awkward spot... how do you clean it? Try grabbing canned air and blowing all the crud out. Then just use a broom to sweep up what came out and voilà! Clean bathroom vent.

7. Wipe down baseboards with dryer sheets

It doesn't matter how clean the rest of your house is, dirty baseboards make it look a little grimy. However, they're hard to clean. Who wants to spend half a Saturday on their hands and knees scrubbing this wood trim? Here's a two-prong trick that could save you some serious time (and also your sanity): Wipe down baseboards with dryer sheets. This keeps dust from re-accumulating so you don't have to worry about it as much. And if you're really next-level lazy like me, you can even stick the dryer sheets to the pad of your Swiffer and go to town.

8. Blast your blender with soap & hot water

Blenders are notoriously difficult to get clean because they have so many little nooks and crevices. There's nothing worse than thinking you got the job done only to have a bit of mildew pop up when you're trying to make your favorite breakfast smoothie. Don't worry. Just pour some hot water in the blender along with liquid soap. Press start, and the blender will churn up suds to clean all the places your hand couldn't reach.

9. Pour wine on wine spills

Yes, you read that right. And, yes, I realize how counterintuitive it sounds. However, for reasons unbeknownst to us, white wine acts as a great stain remover for red wine. Weird, right? But if you spill a glass of red wine at your next party, crack open a white and pour it out on the spot too. Then use a paper towel to blot, blot, blot the red wine stain away. Bonus? You get to open a new bottle of wine.

10. Line your slow cookers

Ah, you've made a delicious one-pot meal and everything is great until you're finished eating and it's time to clean off the baked-on food at the bottom. The solution? Use a slow cooker liner that you can simply toss out after your meal. These are my favorite liners.

11. Line your fridge shelves with press-&-seal wrap

My least favorite thing to clean? The refrigerator. It takes a day and a half to clean the whole thing, and it's a huge headache. But if you line each shelf in your fridge with press-and-seal wrap, all you have to do is pull it off and toss it in the trash when it's dirty and put on a new one.

17 Foods Pregnant Women Crave & Why We Crave It

$

There are cravings — and then there are pregnancy cravings.

Yes, it sometimes seems like pregnancy cravings are dramatized and blown out of proportion for entertainment value in movies and commercials, but the reality is these cravings are no joke — and they really hit 50 to 90 percent of pregnant women. That deep, insatiable hunger is very real, and there are biological reasons it hits. So, the next time you wake up with a burning desire for a Big Mac or a chocolate Frosty, give in. Because... science.

Here are some explanations for those insane hankerings for random things like raw meat and lemons.

1. Ice

Pregnant women love to chew on ice. Seems strange since it's not really a food and doesn't seem in any way satisfying to those of us not with child, but for some reason pregnant women just can't get enough. Those with anemia are more likely to be seen chewing on ice since it can relieve inflammation of the mouth and tongue (a common symptom of anemia).

2. Chocolate

Chocolate — or any sweet, for that matter — is something pregnant women can't get enough of. According to a 2014 study published in Frontiers in Psychology, women likely crave chocolate because it's considered "forbidden" — the more off-limits a food is, the more we'll want it.

Also, an old wives' tale states that if you crave sweets, it means you're carrying a girl.

Tip: If you're worried about indulging too much, satisfy your chocolate craving by drizzling low-fat chocolate syrup onto fresh fruit.

3. Spicy foods

Spicy foods, such as curry or hot red peppers, are yet another common craving among pregnant women. One reason women may crave spicy foods is because hot foods make the body sweat, which cools off the body. If you're currently expecting, then you know it's almost impossible to stay cool. Try adding some spice to your next meal to see if it helps cool you down.

However, according to licensed acupuncturist Kristen N. Burris in Romper, "According to traditional Chinese medicine wisdom and proven theories from thousands of years and billions of women, pregnant women crave spicy foods when their immune system is weakened."

4. Pickles

Women who crave pickles could be low in sodium, but there's no real proof of this. Some like the crunch, some like the vinegar, and some like the refreshing taste. Whatever it is, pickle cravings are nothing to be too concerned about. They're low in calories, easy to get and inexpensive.

5. Potato chips

Potato chips, like pickles, are loaded with salt. Again, you could be low in sodium, but more than likely you're just desiring something salty and crunchy, and potato chips are what comes to mind. Though, if your body is truly craving salt, stick to pickles.

6. Fruit

Pregnant women don't crave just junk food (surprisingly!) — they crave fruit as well. Craving fruit might indicate low blood sugar.

While not supported, you (and your body) might simply want a healthy baby, so sometimes your body needs extra-healthy foods to make sure that happens. Fruits, such as watermelons and grapes, are cool and refreshing, all while providing your body and baby with a boost of vitamin C.

7. Lemon

It's not unheard of to see a pregnant woman eating a straight lemon or adding a ton of it to their water. Pregnant women crave sour foods. The reason? Your taste buds change, and typically, you like to "shock" them with super-sour or super-spicy foods.

8. Ice cream

According to the International Foundation for Mother & Child Health, cravings for ice cream or other dairy products are a sign of low levels of calcium. Plus, ice cream is sweet, it cools you off, and it's rich and creamy. With so many flavors to choose from, a pregnant woman could literally spend hours in the ice cream aisle. For a healthier version, buy low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt and top it with fresh fruit. You might kill two cravings in one sitting.

A version of this article was originally published in February 2013.

9. Sugary sweets

A craving for sweets and candy is one of the most commonly reported among pregnant women. This can sometimes be a sign of gestational diabetes, but much like chocolate, most of the time it can be chalked up to psychology. Because you associate sweets as a "forbidden" treat, you crave it. Try eating fruit or having a glass of freshly squeezed juice to satisfy your craving — or just stick to one small piece of candy a day.

10. Beans & greens

Some women crave healthier foods, like leafy green veggies, legumes and whole grains that provide the body with tons of essential nutrients, including magnesium and fiber. That said, it could be a shortage of magnesium. Feel free to indulge in these foods as often as you like.

11. Red meat

Red meat is full of protein and iron, which many pregnant women crave. The key here is to skip the fattier cuts like rib-eye and go for round or sirloin cuts. Or choose your favorite lean ground beef to make burgers.

12. Salt

It's not uncommon for women to crave salty foods as their pregnancy goes on. An increase in blood volume can change your dietary need for sodium. If salt is what you crave, then stick to the shaker — the sodium in processed foods can far exceed the needs of even a pregnant woman and often contain extra unsavory ingredients.

13. Vinegar

Sometimes a pickle craving escalates, and it turns out vinegar is what a pregnant woman really want. Some women lust after sauerkraut or salt-and-vinegar chips, while some even admit to drinking the stuff straight up. Much like eating lemons, this "shocks" your taste buds; plus, it's believed vinegar can help with nausea. Try unfiltered apple cider vinegar, which you can mix with seltzer for a refreshing drink — just watch out for heartburn.

14. Dairy

Milk, yogurt and cheese, oh my! Lots of pregnant women get the urge to eat dairy after their first trimester (when dairy can cause some tummy trouble). Much like ice cream, this could be a sign of low levels of calcium. Calcium- and protein-rich, low-fat dairy foods — like string or cottage cheese, skim milk and Greek yogurt — are great choices to satisfy these cravings.

15. Crazy combinations

Ever heard of moms-to-be dunking pickles into peanut butter or putting olives in their ice cream? No one knows exactly why some women crave unusual combinations of food when they're pregnant, but according a study conducted by Pregnacare, this could be a result of searching for foods they ate as a child, so it leaves them feeling cared for. Don't worry if what you're craving is a bit odd; the study also found that wanting to eat weird food combinations is totally normal.

16. Comfort food

If you find yourself craving your mom's mac and cheese or a dish you have at Christmas every year, it might not have any relation to your body's physical needs. Pregnancy can be tough, and it's totally normal to crave foods that make you think of cozy, calmer times. Just like craving unusual combinations, craving comfort foods is our body's way of reminiscing. So don't stress — let yourself indulge in an old favorite if it makes you feel better.

17. Nonedible food

If you're craving chalk, dirt or any other nonfood item, then go see your doctor. Pica — a condition in which one craves and eats nonfood items — can be dangerous, especially if you give in to the craving. Pica can indicate an iron deficiency, but even if that's not the case, you should consult your physician to figure out what your body is trying to tell you.

Cardi B Slammed for Twerking While Pregnant Because... Why??

What is this, The Handmaid's Tale: Coachella Edition? No twerking while pregnant or Aunt Lydia shows up with a Taser? I refuse to live in a world where pregnant women are shamed for twerking, but sadly, that's where we are.

Cardi B confirmed her pregnancy on SNL on April 7, leading fans to question whether or not she'd perform at Coachella as planned.

More: Cardi B Confirms Pregnancy on SNL

Well, not only did Cardi B knock out an amazing performance at Coachella, she also twerked up a storm, igniting a Twitter brushfire. Or dumpster fire, depending on your feelings about Twitter trolls.

Let's rewind for a little backstory first, shall we? Just after Cardi B's big SNL pregnancy reveal, the singer told Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club that she has no patience for the antiquated idea that a woman must choose between career or family. According to People, Cardi B said, "It just really bothers me and it disgusts me because I see a lot of women online like, 'I feel sorry for you. Your career is over.' And it's like, why can't I have both? Why do I gotta choose a career or a baby? Why can't I have both? I want both."

Well, her Coachella performance is perfect proof that she's determined to have both — and do both on her terms. It was Day 3 of Coachella when Cardi B — reportedly seven months pregnant — burst onto stage in a white jumpsuit and ponytails to bust out a medley of her hits. And that's when Twerkgate began. Cardi B twerked it and worked it — and the internet freaked the hell out.

Aw, who knew Bobby Flay was such a softie? The Food Network icon and chef took to Instagram on Monday to celebrate daughter Sophie's 22nd birthday with some very dear throwback photos.

“Happy Birthday to this adorable one @soophly... 22 years ago today you let the world know you were here,” Flay captioned a photo of his only child, whom he had with second wife Kate Connelly. Sophie is a student at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication — and she even appears from time to time on her dad's cooking shows, like Beat Bobby Flay.

The third photo he shared showed an older Sophie sporting sunglasses. "Last one for my favorite girl in the world... teen time," Flay wrote.

It's not the first time Flay has raved about his daughter on social media. Back in March, his post in honor of International Women's Day was a pic of Sophie with a loving caption: "Best daughter of all time."

Flay clearly adores fatherhood. He told Rachael Ray in 2013, "I'm the pushover and [Sophie] kind of knows that, but I have to say to her credit, she makes parenting a lot easier than it could be because she’s a great kid.”

We think Bobby Flay is a pretty great papa too. And Sophie seems to agree. She posted a shot of her with her dad at a Knicks game back in November, and the likeness (especially that Flay smile) is undeniable.

More Details About John Cena & Nikki Bella's Relationship & Breakup Emerge

It's been a few days since John Cena and Nikki Bella announced their split, and we know everyone is (including us) is still wondering what lead to the unexpected breakup. The truth is – the former couple (insert crying emoji face) doesn't owe us any answers right now... or ever. But some interesting things about Cena & Bella's relationship and breakup have surfaced recently. Let's just dig right in.

That 75-page cohabitation contract

People magazine dug up a piece of key footage that might point back to a source of tension between Cena and Bella. Taken from Bella's E! reality TV show Total Divas, the clip shows Bella and Cena discussing the logistics of them moving in together. One of the major dramatic turns on the show is that Cena makes it a requirement that, if she is going to move in with him, she has to sign a 75-page contract. Yes, you read that correctly. 75. Pages.

John Cena Nikki Bella Total Divas Contract Clip

John Cena Nikki Bella Total Divas Contract Clip

As People notes, this was a key part of Bella's Total Divas Season 1 storyline (the couple's growing relationship was a primary arc on the show as a whole), but that doesn't mean this contract should just be accepted as a normal thing or okay thing. This wasn't some dramatic, for-the-cameras plot twist for Cena, who explained to Bella (who voiced doubts to her twin sister, Brie: "I just don’t understand it. [...] It kind of makes me second-guess where John and I stand in our relationship.") at the time that the contract was a way for him to look out for his family — at the cost of Bella doing ridiculous things per the contract like allowing Cena to refer to her as a "guest." It's hard to imagine a contract like that would sit well with anyone considering moving in with their significant other.

Cold feet and big dreams

Meanwhile, in Page Six's analysis of what went wrong, they attempt to connect the dots between Cena's first marriage to Elizabeth Huberdeau (which ended in 2012, the same year he started dating Bella). According to friends (who went on the record anonymously), Cena has been pretty outspoken about his skepticism when it comes to remarrying. Getting engaged and planning a wedding can undoubtedly be stressful and confusing as it is; add these nerves to pre-existing hesitation about wanting to get married again (despite giving the outward impression that you want to get engaged) and it's understandable you might buckle.

An insider spoke to People and corroborated Cena's alleged hesitations as the reason this engagement and relationship ended, claiming this was a classic case of cold feet. "[Bella] never gave him an ultimatum. He talked a really good game about having changed, about having his priorities straight, about knowing what’s important, and that it was her. But as the day got closer, it was like he just went back to who he’s always been — which is someone who puts himself first, always."

The insider continued, implying that Cena's heart is more sure about wanting to grow his career than it was about growing with Bella and for that, he should have spoken up before proposing. "In that case, he never should’ve proposed, let alone in front of millions of people. Now she’s heartbroken," they claimed. "This was supposed to be the happiest time of her life. He ruined it and blew everything up."

Both Cena and Bella have remained somewhat mum about the split (Bella re-posted the joint statement the couple released to the press on her Instagram; Cena posted a meme on his Instagram in the immediate wake of the announcement, and has since shared an inspiring quote about overcoming obstacles) but one thing is for sure, even with this small amount of information: these two had an uphill battle from the start. We will never know the full story about their relationship ups and downs; they'll tell us if they want to. For now, we can only wonder if something as silly as a housing contract or as hurtful as having cold feet were the reasons behind this couple's split.

Barbara Bush Has Passed Away at 92 But Leaves Behind a Great Legacy

A sad time has come. After it was announced on Monday, April 16, that Barbara Bush's health was declining but that she would not be seeking treatment for health-related concerns, the matriarch of the Bush family passed away just a day later, on the evening of April 17. She was 92.

The New York Times published a report that included a statement from Jim McGrath, the post-White House spokesman for Barbara and her husband, George H.W. Bush, that confirmed Barbara's passing. "A former First Lady of the United States and a relentless proponent of family literacy, Barbara Pierce Bush passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the age of 92," the statement reads. "She is survived by her husband of 73 years, President George H.W. Bush; five children and their spouses; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Scott Pierce. She was preceded in death by her second child, Pauline Robinson 'Robin' Bush, and her siblings Martha Rafferty and James R. Pierce." Her specific cause of death is not known at this time.

On Monday, Barbara's granddaughter, Jenna Bush Hager, appeared on the Today show to speak with co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb about Barbara's health. It was revealed at that time that Barbara wasn't seeking medical treatment for her health concerns. Jenna did admit that in spite of this, Barbara "is in great spirits and she’s a fighter. She’s an enforcer." Jenna also tearfully remarked at the top of the interview that she, along with the rest of her family, loved Barbara so much. "We are grateful for her. She the best grandma anybody could have ever had — or have," she told Guthrie and Kotb.

Barbara's legacy is a distinct one. She has the unique honor of being the second woman in U.S. history to be both the wife of a former president and, separately, the mother of a former president (Abigail Adams, whose husband, John Adams was our 2nd president and son, who was our 6th, holds the honor, too). She was celebrated for her no-frills approach to being the First Lady during her husband's presidential tenure from 1989-1993. She kept her hair white when the time came, wore pearls, didn't bother with makeup and instead, focused her energy on her work. In her 1994 memoir, Barbara Bush: A Memoir, she wrote of her time as First Lady that "I had the best job in America. Every single day was interesting, rewarding, and sometimes just plain fun."

Interestingly, in that memoir, Barbara also revealed that she was a bit of a revolutionary compared to her more conservative husband. As The Hollywood Reporter notes about the memoir, Barbara wrote that she kept her contrarian opinions to herself during her husband's time in office. Those opinions included her support for legal abortion and her opposition to the sale of legal assault weapons, something that would have certainly worked against the positions held by a Republican president who hailed from Texas.

She chose to devote her time to causes that endeavored to help others, with her primary work devoted to family literacy. Barbara founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy in 1989 with the specific purpose of helping both children and adults improve their literacy skills. It became one of Barbara's most well-known projects and it was one her daughter-in-law, Laura Bush, continued when she was First Lady.

More: George H. W. Bush Wrote a Sweet Message to Barbara on Her 92nd Birthday

Barbara was also a woman devoted to her family. She and her husband celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on January 6, making their marriage the longest of any presidential couple to date. She got to see two of her four children (George W. Bush and Jeb Bush) rise to great political heights. As evidenced by Jenna earlier this week, Barbara was always a family-first woman and hopefully, admirers of Barbara's who are sad to hear of her passing can find comfort in the fact that she was surrounded by her family in her final days.

But Barbara's life is much more than the summary given in an official statement or what is written here. By way of the same NYT report that confirmed her passing, a quote from Barbara's writing in 1988 tells us about how she would like to be remembered: "I want to be known as a wife, a mother, a grandmother. That’s what I am. And I’d like to be known as someone who really cared about people and worked very, very hard to make America more literate." We couldn't have said it better if we tried.

6 Things That Happen When You Ditch Hormonal Birth Control

$

Whether you’re considering going off hormonal birth control to start trying to conceive or to rid yourself of the side effects some people experience when taking hormonal contraceptives, cutting off this supply of hormones will likely cause you to experience new symptoms.

Of course, every person is different — transitioning to prepill baseline hormonal state is more seamless for some than it is for others — but a few changes are common according to OB-GYNs. Here are some things you can expect your body to go through when you stop taking the pill.

You could get pregnant

You probably already know that getting off birth control means pregnancy is a possibility (if you're not using another method, like a condom), but you might not realize just how quickly it could occur.

More: How IUDs Go Beyond Birth Control & Possibly Prevent Cancer

“Many women think it takes a long time to conceive after they stop the pill, but research shows that pregnancy rates are about the same as those for women who had used barrier methods (like condoms),” Dr. Jeff Chamberlain, an OB-GYN with UCHealth Women's Care Clinic in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, tells SheKnows.

One study published in Reviews in Obstetrics & Gynecology analyzed pregnancy rates in women after oral contraceptive use and found that about 20 percent achieved a pregnancy in their first cycle and 80 percent after one year. It’s worth pointing out, however, that it’s very possible that it could take a year or more, especially after you stop injections like Depo-Provera according to Chamberlain.

Your period might not return (immediately)

When you’ve become so accustomed to getting your period like clockwork every 28 to 30 days, it can be startling when the bleeding is nowhere in sight post-pill. But experts say this is very common and almost always nothing to worry about.

“By three months, your period and fertility should return to normal regardless of the type of BCP method used, i.e. continuous or standard,” Dr. Mark P. Trolice, a reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist at Fertility CARE: The IVF Center and associate professor of OB-GYN at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, tells SheKnows. “Therefore, women [and other people with periods] who do not menstruate three months after stopping the pill should undergo an evaluation for amenorrhea (the medical term for absence of periods).”

Your cycle might be unrecognizable

If your period on birth control used to be light and last only two to three days, be prepared for a drastically different flow post-pill. Dr. Kameelah Phillips, an OB-GYN in New York City, tells SheKnows it’s common for periods to be fairly predictable and light while on birth control, but that sometimes, after stopping the pill periods may become more unpredictable and/or heavy.

This is not necessarily a bad thing; it’s just different. “A few months off the pill will help you better understand your new cycle and adjust your pad or tampon use accordingly,” she says.

You might feel ovulation pain

Any hormonal method of birth control works by keeping you from ovulating, Chamberlain explains. But once you’re off birth control, the ovulation process begins rather quickly — typically within three months. “With ovulation, you may feel mild cramping on one side of your pelvis as your ovary releases an egg,” he explains. This feeling is known as “mittelschmerz,” a German word that translates to “middle pain.” You may also have more vaginal discharge.

You might breakout or sprout a few hairs

Another welcome side effect of the pill is an improvement in your skin. So, while you might have been blemish-free while on the pill, you won’t necessarily stay that way as you transition off birth control.

“For many women, birth control can help improve acne because it can lower circulating testosterones,” Phillips explains. “Seeing a dermatologist, using oil-free makeup and acne-target[ing] treatments can all help if you’re dealing with breakouts post-pill.”

Your sex drive may surge

Plainly put, birth control can put a damper on your libido. So, after discontinuing the hormonal contraceptives, it is possible to experience a sudden increase in sexual desire because you will experience natural ovulation. Most women are pretty happy to have their libido back, as well as the increase in vaginal lubrication that comes along with it, Chamberlain explains.

MoreWhat Are My IUD Options?

You probably felt a few changes when you first started taking birth control, which you got used to over time, so it's only natural for your body to readjust to your new hormonal status post-BC. Don't worry if you're dealt an unpleasant hand, as these symptoms tend to be temporary. If for any reason you're having trouble adjusting to bodily changes after birth control or are experiencing irregular or absent periods, it's best to make an appointment with your OB-GYN to rule out other health conditions that may be interfering with your cycle.

Britney Spears Shared the Secret to Happiness, & It Makes Total Sense

In a novel piece of self-help advice, Britney Spears revealed her secret to happiness: having a really bad memory — at least about some things. While attending the GLAAD Media Awards, Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans showed Spears this throwback photo from 1999 — the year her first album ...Baby One More Time dropped.

Britney Spears & Ricky Martin in 1999

Evans asked the singer what she remembered about the photo, and she replied, “I don’t remember. Yeah the secret to happiness — no memory — right there. Live in the moment, baby,”

Fair. First of all, how many of us remember much from a 20-year-old photo? And second, we all have moments from life we'd prefer to forget, right? If you're shaking your head no, you're lying to yourself.

Though Spears looked mortified when she first saw the picture (she called herself "such a dork and a nerd!"), that advice might be the best she could give herself after a few troubled years. Despite the setbacks, heartbreaks, breakdowns and pressure in the spotlight, Spears has pushed forward and continued to surpass everyone's expectations. It's an epic comeback if we've ever seen one. She's released album after album, wowed fans with her performances and tours and turned her Vegas residency into a four-year gig. Don't forget — this is Britney, bitch.

The Mom's Guide to Miami

mom's guide banner

If your impression of Miami Beach involves high heels, fast cars and thumping bass, let me just level with you for a minute: You aren’t wrong. And when I realized my family vacation to South Beach this March was scheduled smack-dab in the middle of spring break, I panicked a tiny bit. But listen — it turns out tipsy college students love babies, and Miami is such a fun place to travel with your kids that even if your scheduling skills are as questionable as mine, you’re going to have a great time.

Here’s why: Miami, particularly Miami Beach, is that ideal blend of beach town and big city that means there’s always something to do, but you don’t have to do anything. Want to spend all day lounging by the pool? Of course you do! And you’re not going to miss out on anything life-changing. But if you feel like exploring, getting active, checking out some cool art and architecture and enjoying world-class meals, you’re just steps away.

Miami Beach South Beach mom's guide

South Beach

Miami’s beaches are truly special: The sand is impossibly soft, the water is blindingly blue, and the vibe is almost Caribbean, even if things get a little crazy at times. South Beach’s stunning stretch is peppered with cabanas renting out beach gear, and many local hotels offer the use of a pair of beach chairs and an umbrella for free with your stay. Hungover partygoers start rolling in circa early afternoon, but before then, the beach is mostly yours.

Miami Art Deco tour with kids

The Official Art Deco Walking Tour

This 90-minute tour (run by the Miami Design Preservation League) gives participants a fascinating overview of Miami history and architecture, and during the walk you’ll get to take in some of the most noteworthy sites in the area. That includes art deco classics like The Carlyle Hotel and The Breakwater, but also the famous Versace mansion (which is Mediterranean revival in case you were wondering) and the Hotel Victor (which is actually Bauhaus — who knew?). The tour is great for parents with stroller-napping babies or history-buff (or Scarface-loving) tweens and teens; it’s not ideal for squirmier kids and those with shorter attention spans — but there’s a playground in nearby Lummus Park if anyone needs a break.

The Miami Beach Boardwalk

While the street traffic may be a little wild, Miami Beach is surprisingly pedestrian-friendly thanks to the 4-mile-long boardwalk stretching from 5th Street all the way up to 46th Street, which runs between the beach and the beachfront hotels. The path is totally easy with a stroller, and while you may have to dodge a bike here and there, it’s a nice respite from the hubbub of Collins Avenue and the like.

If you’re eager to stay in the thick of things, the Betsy is a kid-friendly yet elegant spot right on Ocean Avenue. Its recent renovation must have included impressive soundproofing efforts — good news for light sleepers. (If you’d rather stay away from the fray, the larger hotels closer to Mid-Beach, such as The Confidante, may be more up your alley.)

Yardbird

The famed Southern fare here lives up to the hype; kids will love the fried chicken, and you’ll love the hours (they’re open for lunch, and supper starts at 4 p.m.). Just be sure to get a reservation, and be aware that the restaurant doesn’t have high chairs.

The Wynwood Yard is a something-for-everyone outdoor food court with plenty of space for littles to run around and blow off steam, and Wynwood Walls is the famed collection of public murals you’ve seen on pretty much every Instagram account ever.

The Front Porch Café

High chairs abound during breakfast at this low-key South Beach restaurant — a nice break from the see-and-be-seen vibe at other local brunch spots. Oh, and the food is stellar: The green eggs, French toast and breakfast tacos will make you want seconds.

Museum Park

If you feel no trip is complete without a visit to local museums (or you’re just looking to fill a rainy day — yes, they do happen here), Miami’s Museum Park makes it easy. Broken Shaker Tiki Bar Miami

Eat & drink at The Freehand

Let’s just get one thing on the table here: If you’re visiting Miami with kids, you’re going to want to get a babysitter for at least one night and hit up the nightlife. (Call your hotel’s concierge when you make reservations, or visit Care.com to find a local caregiver. Just know that Friday and Saturday nights are in high demand, so make your arrangements in advance to ensure you can book someone with plenty of great ratings.) Not into the untz-untz club scene? Make a reservation for dinner at 27 Restaurant at The Freehand Hotel, then wander over to the Broken Shaker tiki bar right across the pool area for post-meal drinks.

It’s a bit of a hike from Miami Beach, but if you have the time, plan to spend a day on Key Biscayne and its idyllic Crandon Park Beach, which boasts huge stretches of sand and shallow water going quite far out. So lessons learned: First, make sure you google "spring break timing" next time you plan a pre-summer beach vacation with the little ones, and second, in a city like Miami, you and your family will have such a blast that a few hundred college kids almost won't matter.

Meghan Markle Did Something No Royal Fiancée Has Ever Done Before

$

Meghan Markle can't seem to resist breaking with royal tradition — respectfully, mind you — whenever possible. Throughout her relationship with Prince Harry, Markle has written her own rules about how to live among the royal family while still honoring some of her future in-laws' most treasured traditions. Now, it would seem she's leaning into that instinct to do her own thing, attending the Commonwealth Youth Forum in London on April 18. While meeting with a forum of young delegates from across Britain’s Commonwealth countries is routine for royals, it is not for royal fiancées. This makes Markle’s attendance at the event an unprecedented move.

More: Everything We Know About Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's Wedding So Far

The Commonwealth Youth Forum is part of a much larger event, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Per Vanity Fair, royal fiancées typically don’t take part in this particular week at all. Thanks to a short video shared by Kensington Palace, though, it’s clear Markle actively engaged with delegates at the forum.

Meghan Markle Forum 1

Meghan Markle Forum 1

Why is this a big deal? Well, for starters, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is a high-profile event. It convenes every two years in London and involves 53 leaders from across the Commonwealth. Historically, the forum serves to establish policies on contentious issues and current events. There’s often a special focus on issues that directly affect nations of Commonwealth members. Examples of prior discussions include apartheid rule in South Africa and military coups in Pakistan. Although the Commonwealth members don’t always agree on a solution, they release a statement at the conclusion of the summit expressing their opinions.

The Commonwealth Youth Forum encourages cross-cultural connections and entails the discussion of political policies that affect young people.

More: Here's Why Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Are Forgoing Wedding Gifts

Naturally, it stands to reason the royal family would not want to risk any faux pas at a meeting of such importance. Also, given the controversial nature of some of the subjects addressed, the royal family would have to be confident that whoever represents them maintains a certain level of decorum. In other words, they wouldn’t want someone there who couldn’t address a tense conversation diplomatically.

That’s quite a bit of pressure to put on Prince Harry’s betrothed, but if her attendance at royal events so far is any indication, the family clearly has faith in her ability to act appropriately. "Clearly the feeling is that she is equipped and ready for the job even before the ring is on her finger," a former courtier reportedly told Vanity Fair. "This is quite unusual. C.H.O.G.M. is a very important official meeting. It’s quite something for Meghan to be involved."

Markle has had some notable previous breaks with royal tradition before this moment, including holding Prince Harry’s hand in public, nixing tights for her wardrobe to major public events, wearing cross-body bags instead of carrying clutches, and even giving autographs to the public.

Markle will also attend the Women’s Empowerment Reception on Thursday, April 19, which will be a forum of charities and organizations devoted to promoting gender equality through girls’ education. Additionally, it's worth noting that April 19 marks exactly one month until her wedding day — exciting!

We've seen plenty of home decor trends hit us fast and furiously, clogging up our Instagram feeds, enjoying their 15 minutes of fame and quickly disappearing: chevron prints, pineapple wall art and tchotchkes and millennial pink to name a few. But one has always been on-trend and has no intention of leaving anytime soon: the houseplant.

This year, it's been all about the indoor plant — from those that lend a pop of color to your space (like pink princess Philodendrons) to those with patterned leaves (like the Calathea lancifolia). They're the easiest items to pick up at your local nursery and add to a home in dire need of life and movement.

But for those of us living in smaller spaces like apartments, we've learned the hard way that you can't just pick up any ole houseplant. Why? Think about it: Your apartment has very little natural lighting compared to more luxurious, open homes. Before you know it, you have a dying houseplant and yet another trip to the nursery as part of your weekend plans.

"When talking about light, I think it's important to get a sense of what low light means," says Justin Hancock, horticulturist at Costa Farms. "For us here at Costa Farms, we define it as having enough light throughout the day to be able to read a book or magazine without needing supplemental light.

"If your apartment is really dim and you don't get much natural light at all, you're not out of luck," Hancock continues. "Plants grow just as well under artificial light as they do natural light. Something as simple as an inexpensive shop light hung over a tabletop can provide all the light you need."

But if you want to ensure your plant will truly thrive (and don't want to fork over the extra cash on artificial lighting), ahead, we have a complete list of indoor plants that can survive even in the most sun-deprived apartment.

Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema)

The Chinese evergreen, or Aglaonema, is not only one of the best plants for beginners, but it's also fantastic for those of us who have hectic schedules and don't have a lot of time to keep houseplants alive. Plus, they're small enough to fit on desks and side tables.

"My favorite plant that tolerates low light is Chinese evergreen," says Hancock. "Care is pretty easy: At most, water when the top inch or so of the potting mix dries to the touch, but you don't have to sweat it if you forget. It can typically survive two or three weeks without you."

According to Hancock, the plant will grow without fertilizer, but if you can and are willing, mix in some time-release fertilizer every spring.

Snake plant (Sansevieria)

"The trendiest plant for low light right now is the snake plant," says Hancock. Also known as the sword lily and mother-in-law's tongue, the snake plant is easily recognizable at the nursery due to its stiff, upright, swordlike leaves, usually donning a gray, silver or gold color on them.

You can grow the snake plant in just about any room in your apartment, and caring for this plant is easy. Similar to the Chinese evergreen, just water it now and again, and you're set.

ZZ plant (Zamioculcas)

Zamioculcas zamiifolia

Travel a lot? In and out of your apartment all day? Need something that requires very little care? Go with the ZZ plant, originally from Eastern Africa.

"It has rubbery dark green leaves that some people think look rather fernlike," Hancock says. "The leaves grow from a thick rhizome [underground stem] that stores water, making this plant delightfully drought-tolerant. In fact, it can still recover even after it drops all of its leaves if watered well."

Nerve plant (Fittonia)

Fittonias are gorgeous, with their bright-pink leaves.

Also known as nerve plants, they grow best in low to medium light. But if you're jonesing to hang these up in your kitchen to give it the pop of color it so desperately needs, it's advised to filter the sun's rays with a sheer curtain. If the nerve plant gets too much sun, the leaves could turn a brown color and become crisp.

"If the plant gets too parched, it will quickly wilt, but it recovers just as fast when you add water," Hancock reassures. "It's not as tolerant of dry soil as the ones above, so keep this one moist, or at most, just let the top inch or so of the potting mix dry."

You'll also want to fertilize the plant a couple of times a year.

Monstera

"For those who love big, bold and trendy, Monstera is the perfect plant," Hancock says. "This tropical vine features leaves that can get 2 feet across and are dramatically split, giving it a bold texture. In fact, you'll find Monstera leaf as a popular motif in home decor — bedding, clothes, plates, etc."

To care for the Monstera, which also goes by the names Swiss cheese plant and split-leaf Philodendron, water it when the top inch or 2 of the potting mix feels dry to the touch. The plant also tends to get quite large — vining out — so don't be afraid to cut it down when needed.

Heartleaf Philodendron (Philodendron scandens)

Also known as the sweetheart plant, the heartleaf Philodendron is extremely easy to grow, making it a popular houseplant.

These "houseplants are a popular choice not only because they're extremely easy to take care of, but also because they thrive in almost any level of indirect light," says gardening expert for Fantastic Services Australia Jane Clarke. "They look good everywhere: on a desk, bookshelf or hanging planter. All they need is water when the soil feels dry."

Tony Smith, owner and president of Nursery Enterprises, adds that the plant can "survive for years with little care in dappled to full sunlight in an indoor environment."

Madagascar dragon tree

"You've always dreamed of having a palm at home, but you don't have the light to sustain it? There is a great alternative, and it is the Madagascar dragon tree," says Clarke.

Also called the red-edged Dracaena, this is one of the most popular houseplants around. It's easily spottable thanks to its red or pink-branded leaves.

To care for the Madagascar dragon tree, merely water it and prune it to prevent it from getting too wild, Clarke advises. Plus, if you have dark walls or an otherwise dark apartment, this is the indoor plant for you.

Parlor palm (Chamaedorea)

House plant Chamaedorea in a ceramic flower pot

First discovered in Central America, the Chamaedorea — or parlor palm — is adapted to thrive in relatively low light, making just right for your apartment.

"It can handle low light, low humidity, bad air, near-freezing temperatures and some neglect," Smith says. "One more benefit [is] it actually cleans the air a little more than most other plants." A plant that's low-maintenance and purifies the air? Count us in.

To care for this plant, keep it in a spot that gets bright filtered sunlight if possible. Because it can't tolerate being waterlogged, keep the plant slightly dry vs. overwatering.

Prince William Reveals the One Fast-Food Chain He Loves

Despite having tons of cash, a palace kitchen and being a fan of cooking himself, it turns out Prince William can’t help but love a certain chain restaurant too. He recently revealed he’s a big fan of Nando’s, a beloved chain with restaurants all across the globe, including Great Britain.

Nando’s is a fast-casual dining spot with more than 1,000 stores between 30 countries — 280 of them in the U.K. alone. The Mozambique-Portuguese-inspired food chain originated in South Africa in 1987.

According to People magazine, Prince William was at the Next Generation Impact Entrepreneurs Forum and told the founder of Nando's, Robert Brozin, that he’d been introduced to the restaurant by one of his personal-protection officers.

“This man here is your biggest fan, he’s introduced me to Nando’s,” the prince said of the protection officer. “It’s very good.”

The biggest draw of the restaurant is their Peri-Peri sauce, an African bird’s-eye chili-based concoction also used to marinate their famous chicken. The chain flame-grills their Peri-Peri-marinated chicken, which comes in spice levels of mild to extra hot. The restaurant also serves hummus, halloumi, wings, chicken burgers, salads and vegetarian burgers.

Nando’s often gets mentioned in jokes by British comedians because the chain is delicious, so everyone wants to go, but it’s really too casual for a date. If you've never been to one, comedian Jack Whitehall gives a sense for the dining experience, describing the small flags that are stuck into your meal to indicate how spicy the dish is and how all the wine tastes the same, in this clip from 2012:

If you’d like to get your hands on some to try yourself, the company has U.S. locations in Illinois, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia. Or you can just book a ticket to the U.K. Maybe Prince William will give you a tour.

Can Workplace Anxiety Be a Good Thing?

Generally, we think of anxiety — our body's fight, flight or freeze function — as a negative thing, and that makes sense. It's the mode we shift into when we think something is a danger, threat or cause for concern. And for a lot of people, their job is a major source of anxiety. But a new study suggests that workplace anxiety might not be the worst thing ever and may actually improve our performance.

Now, before we go any further, we're not talking about situations when a person is being abused, bullied, harassed or discriminated against at work — that's an entirely different situation. This research, published in the Journal of Applied Psychologyspecifically considers just your average, run-of-the-mill anxiety about making sure you get everything done on time and to an acceptable standard.

The key is finding the perfect balance of being aware and concerned about your job performance, but not to an extent that it's in any way damaging or harmful to you.

More: How to Handle Travel Anxiety So It Doesn't Ruin Your Trip

“If you have too much anxiety, and you’re completely consumed by it, then it’s going to derail your performance,” coauthor Julie McCarthy from the Department of Management at U of T Scarborough and the Rotman School of Management, who is an expert on organizational behavior, says in a statement. “On the other hand, moderate levels of anxiety can facilitate and drive performance.”

What employers don't want, however, is employees that are so distracted by their anxiety that it prevents them from completing tasks and eventually leads to burnout, coauthor Bonnie Hayden Cheng, an assistant professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, says in a statement. The ideal level of anxiety — if such a thing exists — boosts performance by helping employees focus on their job and self-regulate their behavior, which Cheng compares to athletes who utilize their anxiety to remain motivated during their training.

“After all, if we have no anxiety and we just don’t care about performance, then we are not going to be motivated to do the job,” Cheng continued.

The study does differentiate between people who experience generalize anxiety outside the workplace, indicating they will have different experiences with anxiety at work than those whose anxiety is strictly job-related. It also looks at situational anxiety at work — for example, when people become anxious about specific tasks, like public speaking or performance reviews.

To be clear: The authors do not condone employers inducing anxiety at work, but rather hope their research helps those who regularly experience anxiety in and out of work to help them realize they can self-regulate their behavior and possibly even use their anxiety to their advantage.

More: Celeb Quotes About What Anxiety & Panic Attacks Really Feel Like

“Managing anxiety can be done by recognizing and addressing triggers of workplace anxiety, but also being aware of how to leverage it in order to drive performance,” according to Cheng.

So, what do the researchers recommend for employers? Cheng recommends they implement training to help boost self-confidence, making resources to help them perform tasks more available and helping employees develop strategies for recognizing, using and managing anxiety. And always remember that anxiety is a perfectly normal human response to stress — both in and out of work — but if it gets to the point that it's interfering with your life, it may be a good idea to talk to a mental health professional.

Kung Pao Chickpeas Recipe: Turn a Favorite Chinese Takeout Dish Vegan

I love Asian food, but being vegetarian makes it a little difficult from time to time to get takeout. While there are vegetable options, they can be less than interesting and sometimes bland.

This is one of those times when a vegan dish is so delicious it tastes better than the real thing. You can satisfy your craving for kung pao chicken — minus the meat — by swapping flavorful chickpeas for chicken in this classic Chinese dish.

I gave the chickpeas lots of flavor by using kung pao sauce, which has a sweet-but-spicy flavor. Serve these yummy chickpeas over steamed rice, and top with crushed cashews or peanuts for a super-flavorful meat-free dinner.

If every time you see a photo of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry you can’t help but start singing, “Here Comes the Bride,” don’t worry — you’ve only got about a month left before they tie the knot on May 19. It can feel like an endless cycle of what the cake is like, what dress she might wear, who is and isn’t invited… information that feels endless, but also, we’re desperate to have.

Well, here’s another little tidbit we’ve discovered: the honeymoon destination. Travel + Leisure managed to confirm that the royal couple will be honeymooning in Namibia.

More: Here’s Why Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Are Forgoing Wedding Gifts

It’s not the first time the couple will be visiting the African continent together. Markle and the Prince visited Botswana and Zambia on a three-week trip to celebrate Markle’s birthday. Botswana is also where Prince Harry sourced the diamonds for Markle’s engagement ring.

Harry has been active in conservation efforts in Africa. In 2016, he spent the summer helping to move 500 elephants across Malawi to a sanctuary. He's extremely fond of the continent, which may have something to do with going on safari with his father and brother shortly after the death of his mother. “My dad told my brother and me to pack our bags — we were going to Africa to get away from it all,” he told Town + Country in 2017. "This is where I feel more like myself than anywhere else in the world. I wish I could spend more time in Africa. I have this intense sense of complete relaxation and normality here."

Markle had also spent time in Africa before her time with the royal family. In 2016, she visited Rwanda as a One World Global Ambassador to meet schoolchildren who had a clean water pipeline built for them by charity.

No confirmation yet on where the royal couple will be staying, but People reports there are rumors it might be Hoanib Valley Camp, nestled in the desert with plenty of unique wildlife.

The pain that comes from losing someone close to you is palpable — grief drapes you like a heavy cloak. And judging by a statement from George H.W. Bush’s spokesperson, that’s where the former president finds himself a day after the death of his beloved wife, Barbara Bush.

"Many of you are asking, ‘How is 41,'" Jean Becker said in a statement to USA Today. "He, of course, is broken-hearted to lose his beloved Barbara, his wife of 73 years. He held her hand all day today and was at her side when [she] left this good earth." But despite Bush mourning this horrific loss, Becker added that the 93-year-old was “stoic and strong” and “determined to be there” for his family as they grieve the loss too.

“Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was,” Barbara's son, George W. Bush, wrote in a statement released through the George W. Bush Presidential Center. “Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions. To us, she was so much more. Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until the end. I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Our family will miss her dearly, and we thank you for all your prayers and good wishes.”

Bush’s granddaughter, Jenna Bush Hager, retweeted her father’s statement on her own Twitter account. She also re-posted a tweet reflecting on her grandmother’s “ability to make people think” as well as one celebrating the sweet anecdotes she and her sisters like to tell about their “Ganny.”

Another of Bush's sons, Jeb Bush, mirrored brother George's sentiments in a statement, saying he was "exceptionally privileged to be the son of George Bush and the exceptionally gracious, gregarious, fun, funny, loving, tough, smart, graceful woman who was the force of nature known as Barbara Bush."

She’ll be remembered for passing those American values on to her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren — and to countless citizens whom she and George inspired to become ‘points of light’ in service to others.”
