Everything We Know About the Mini-Season of DWTS

Season 26 of Dancing with the Stars begins on Monday, April 30, but things are very, very different this season. In the past, the show always began its spring season in March — a week after The Bachelor finale. This year, the American Idol reboot came along with an enormous budget and is squatting on the prime Monday night real estate.

More: 8 American Idol Scandals You Probably Forgot About

DWTS fans weren’t too thrilled to hear the news, but they are happy to have any sort of season. In May 2017, ABC announced they were going to do a junior version of the show with celebrity kids, but that all changed at the end of Season 25 when the all-athletes version was revealed.

With Season 26 just around the corner, here’s all of the information we know about DWTS right now. Get ready for the glitter, the sparkle and the Mirrorball Trophy!

Format

Fans can look forward to a four-week season. There will be 10 athletes competing on Season 26, and the show will be one night a week — no Tuesday results shows are scheduled this season.

For the first three weeks, the show will be two hours long. The finale show airs Monday, May 21, but DWTS only has an hour to wrap up the season. According to ABC publicity, American Idol will also wrap up its season with a two-hour finale after DWTS.

What we're not sure about is how they are doing eliminations. Will eliminations begin the very first week? Will the show wait until the second week? How many contestants will be eliminated each week? There are a lot of questions left to be answered by DWTS producers.

Snowboarder Jamie Anderson, figure skater Adam Rippon and figure skater Tonya Harding will all be competing in the mini-season. The rest of the cast and pro reveal will be happening on Friday, April 13 on Good Morning America. Even with a shorter season, the troupe will also be a part of Season 26.

Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews will be back as cohosts of the show. The judges panel will only have three bodies in those seats — Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman. Julianne Hough shared with Entertainment Tonight that she will not be returning to DWTS for Season 26. Instead, she will be seen in a mentoring role with brother Derek Hough’s show, World of Dance, this summer.

Competition

What’s great about an all-athletes edition is they tend to be very competitive contenders since they are in top physical shape. They know how to work their bodies, even if ballroom dance is unfamiliar to them. Athletes work harder and rarely complain about the number of hours required to win DWTS.

While some athletes need to work on the performance aspect, that’s the type of thing gymnasts and figure skaters are already adept at. It’s why Olympians like Adam Rippon, Mirai Nagasu and Alex and Maia Shibutani have all publicly talked about wanting to do the show. Let’s see how many figure skaters DWTS will cast this season.

If you take a look at the winners over the last 25 seasons, 10 of them have been athletes. Football is the most represented sport with four wins followed by gymnastics with two wins, so it makes sense DWTS decided to do a special edition of the show.

DWTS is sticking around

Even with all these changes in Season 26, don’t get too concerned about DWTS being canceled, because the show has already been picked up for Season 27. The dance competition show will be back in the fall with a full season, which averages around 10 weeks. That demonstrates the confidence ABC has in the show’s longevity.

DWTS Jr. auditions

DWTS Jr. auditions

If you can’t wait until the fall, Dancing with the Stars Junior already auditioned for young pros in February. While ABC hasn’t given the show an official timetable, DWTS pros Cheryl Burke and Karina Smirnoff have hinted the network is aiming for a summer release. In fact, Burke would love a very specific role on the pint-size show. “There is also talk of Dancing With the Stars Junior in the summer and I’d love to come back for that as a judge,” Burke wrote in her Season 25 DWTS blog for Us Magazine. “Coming fresh off Dance Moms and being a kid myself when I started ballroom, I think I would be the perfect judge. I know exactly what these kids are going through because I went through it, and I know how to handle kids from what I saw on Dance Moms. I’d love to be part of both shows.”

Dancing with the Stars premieres the night of Monday, April 30 at 8/7c on ABC.

John Legend & Daughter Luna Dance Together, We Die

What? Me, Jealous of singer John Legend and model/cookbook author Chrissy Teigen's daughter Luna who's growing up in a perfect heavenly angel-food-cake-scented bubble of unconditional love and parental affection? No way. Come on, now. I'm a grown-ass, independent adult woman. And I've done just fine in the world without a dad who danced with me before bedtime or let me style his hair or, you know, smiled at me the way John Legend smiles at his daughter. I'm just fine, I'm just... *dissolves into several hours of wretched sobbing, dials therapist*

Fine. Damn it to hell, there they go again being the happiest family I have ever witnessed on planet Earth. Go on. Just watch this video of John Legend dancing with Luna to one of his songs. Just listen to her teensy voice saying, "My dada." And then saying what Legend thinks is "dancing." But I'm pretty sure Luna is saying, "Dada singing." Go on. I'll wait.

Teigen often shares sweet videos and photos of life with Luna, almost 2, and Legend on Instagram, and her followers can't ever get enough. (Yes, I'm a follower. I admit it. This is my form of self-care.) Fans loved the daddy-daughter dance, saying things like, "My heart just exploded into a million pieces" and "I can’t with this!!! Too cute for words!!!" and my personal favorite, "damn right I cried."

I can't with this either. And yet somehow, I still can. Over and over.

This family — and all that love — is only getting bigger: Luna's baby brother is on the way soon, and we're wondering how she's going to handle sharing all those snuggles with an interloper. Everybody knows newborns are terrible at playing kitchen barbershop.

John Legend using his manners — "please" and "thank you" — while guided by Luna is almost too much sweetness to bear, but we're willing to keep on bearing it, so please don't stop sharing, Chrissy.

We're guessing this big sister thing might be a rough transition for Luna. I mean, I wouldn't want to share John Legend or Chrissy Teigen with anybody either, frankly. But we're thinking they'll figure it all out — there's definitely more than enough love here to go around.

'Oversharing' Personal Health Information Isn't Bad Manners — It's Helpful

We all know an "oversharer" — someone who has no shame when it comes to telling you all about their personal health conditions. Maybe you're an oversharer yourself. While providing specific details about your struggles with IBS or flaky skin may be deemed inappropriate in certain social circles, by openly talking about health issues, people who overshare are actually providing an important service for everyone.

A new study published in the journal Nature Sustainability found that informal boundary spanners (the fancy name for oversharers) in an organization may be more receptive to new information and ideas, and more likely to share it with coworkers, regardless of what department they usually work in or whether they're all actually involved with the relevant project.

More: More Athletes Are Talking About Their Periods — Here's Why That's Important

While the study focused on information spreading through organizations, the same logic can be applied to people who share health information. When topics are thought to be areas we need to keep to ourselves — whether it's mental health, bathroom problems or menstrual pain — people tend not to talk about them. Though many do this in the name of being "polite," what they're actually doing is further stigmatizing these topics, adding to the already existing shame surrounding them.

More: Talking About Depression Is Good — Investing in Mental Health Is Better

So when people "overshare," they're not only normalizing body- and mind-related topics so others get used to hearing them in everyday conversation, they also inadvertently spread information — whether that's in the form of discussing specific symptoms or understanding different treatment options.

Chrissy Teigen is a great example of this: By sharing specific health struggles with fertility, mental health and body-shaming (among others), she's showing people these are a completely normal part of everyday life and not a reason to be embarrassed.

We're already starting to do this increasingly in the areas of mental health and periods, but that's just the beginning. So, next time you have the urge to tell someone about a health condition or symptom, feel free to do so, confident that even though they may be temporarily uncomfortable, ultimately, you are helping to destigmatize the conversation and help inform others.

I Tried the Viral Peanut Butter & Pickle Sandwich Everyone Is Talking About

There are very few things I would not put peanut butter on. I've even been known to slather it on hamburgers and bacon from time to time, and I even put it in soups, but when The New York Times tweeted a recipe for a peanut butter and pickle sandwich, I thought, "OK, that's where I draw the line."

If so many people love this, it can't be that bad, right? I do love pickles, and I do love peanut butter, so maybe a peanut butter and pickle sandwich is the creamy, salty goodness I never knew I needed. Well, there's only one way to find out. So today for lunch, I am making a peanut butter and pickle sandwich.

The ingredients are simple.

  • Bread
  • Peanut Butter
  • Bread & butter pickles

Unfortunately for me, I only had dill pickles on hand.

I spread a thick layer of peanut butter on one side, piled on some pickles and voila! Peanut butter and pickle sandwich. I will say, this is probably the quickest lunch I have ever made.

Now, for the question you've all been waiting for: How did it taste?

It wasn't as terrible as I had imagined. The extra crunch from the crispy pickles added some nice texture to an otherwise mushy sandwich. The saltiness of the pickles and the rich, creaminess of the peanut butter paired nicely, but it was just a little lackluster. Maybe I was expecting too much from a sandwich. After all, it did have some pretty high expectations to live up to. Or maybe having bread and butter pickles really makes the difference. I don't know, and I probably will never know because I have no plans to make this again, but hey, if you're craving an extra-salty sandwich with a creamy filling, then maybe this is for you.

Tammy Duckworth Becomes First US Senator to Give Birth While in Office

Updated April 9, 2018, 2:00 p.m. ET: The historic moment is here: Senator Tammy Duckworth just became the first U.S. Senator to give birth while in office. The politician and all-around amazing human welcomed a baby girl on Monday according to CNN.

"Bryan, Abigail and I couldn't be happier to welcome little Maile Pearl as the newest addition to our family and we're deeply honored that our good friend Senator Akaka was able to bless her name for us — his help in naming both of our daughters means he will always be with us," said Duckworth in a statement released Monday. Former Senator Daniel Kahikina Akaka was the first sitting U.S. Senator of Native Hawaiian ancestry. He died on April 6, just a few days before Maile Pearl was born.

In the same statement, she also urged the Senate to change its current (and totally antiquated) floor rules so she can participate in future Senate votes with her baby by her side. “Parenthood isn’t just a women’s issue," Duckworth continued in her statement. "It’s an economic issue and one that affects all parents — men and women alike,” the senator continued. “As tough as juggling the demands of motherhood and being a Senator can be, I’m hardly alone or unique as a working parent, and my children only make me more committed to doing my job and standing up for hardworking families everywhere.”

We can only imagine the amazing career — political or otherwise — little Maile Pearl will grow up to have. She has one hell of a role model, that's for sure.

Original story, published January 24, 2018: This is a big week for politician pregnancy firsts: A few days after we learned that New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will most likely become the second elected world leader in history to have a baby while in office, U.S. senator and certified badass Tammy Duckworth has announced her pregnancy as well.

Duckworth is expected to become the first sitting U.S. senator to give birth while in office. The combat veteran, who gave birth to her first daughter in 2014 while serving in the House of Representatives, revealed that this hasn't been an easy journey. Duckworth shared that she went through multiple rounds of IVF and suffered a miscarriage when she and her husband, Bryan, decided to have a second child.

“Bryan and I are thrilled that our family is getting a little bit bigger, and Abigail is ecstatic to welcome her baby sister home this spring,” Duckworth told Time. She also shared the news on Twitter with an adorable image of four ducks.

A separate statement issued by Duckworth's office emphasized that millions of other working mothers across the country are more deeply impacted by the wage gap than other women simply because they choose to expand their families.

"Though millions of American women have become mothers while continuing their careers, Senator Duckworth is one of only 10 women since our nation’s founding who have given birth while serving in Congress," the statement read. "Her experiences as a working mother give her an important — and underrepresented — perspective in the halls of Congress, where she has long advocated on behalf of working families."

During her time in Congress, Duckworth has consistently been an advocate for working families, working on initiatives including paid family-leave legislation and head-start programs for children.

Joey Lawrence's Bankruptcy Case Finally Comes to a Close

As of Friday, April 6, the dust is beginning to settle on the jaw-dropping bankruptcy case of former child star Joey Lawrence. The case, which has largely stayed out of the press until now, tells a pretty depressing tale of financial strife for the eldest Lawrence brother. Along with his wife of 13 years, Chandie Yawn-Nelson, Lawrence has been attempting recover from the financial woes that have plagued the couple in recent years.

While it wasn't highly publicized at the time, this case began when Lawrence and Yawn-Nelson filed for bankruptcy in July 2017. According to The Blast, their financial situation had become so dire the couple was forced to sell off quite literally any and all possessions, from their clothes to their cars, sometimes on eBay, at thrift stores and beyond.

The Blast also reports that at the time of the bankruptcy filing, Lawrence's household expenses were exorbitant — to the point that it's not really all that difficult to see why he landed in the sticky financial situation he's been in recently. "[Lawrence's] expenses are substantial with $13,500 a month in rent, $1,281 on water and sewer bills, $2,400 on food and housekeeping supplies, $1,000 on entertainment and $2,348 for one car lease and $498 on a second. [His] monthly expenses totaled $25,505.35 leaving him in the red every month [by] $18,539.35."

A year later, it looks like Lawrence's bankruptcy case is finally settled, but it took a lot of work to get there. According to Us Weekly, a trustee working on behalf of Lawrence "collected $75,636.22 to pay back the money the couple owed. However, after legal fees and other administrative expenses, there was a balance of $52,547.88 left to pay his various creditors, including the IRS, which will only receive $31,000 out of the $67,000 owed."

Additionally, the following companies will receive nothing from Lawrence per the settlement, with the sky-high balances on record indicating just how bad things have gotten. Those companies include Capital One, who was owed $30,991, "American Express (owed $48,506), Ford Motor [Credit] Company (owed $42,000), BMW [Financial Services] (owed $50,030), Daimel Trust (owed nearly $130,000) and Woodside credit (owed $76,965)."

As of this writing, Lawrence had yet to release a statement. It's not clear whether Lawrence has any intention of adjusting his spending habits to prevent something like this from happening again. As far as work is concerned, it looks like he will be able to dive into some new projects and temporarily put these financial burdens on the back burner. According to his IMDb page, he has two feature-length films and a TV movie in post-production and a new film was recently announced — a silver lining to be sure.

Regardless, it's hard not to feel for him. These kinds of situations, no matter how famous you are, are never easy to navigate.

When Should You Let Your Kid Start Dating?

$

So, your kid wants to make it official with their crush. This probably makes you want to 1.) bury your head in the sand or 2.) lock them in their bedroom until they're 21. Or both. But sorry. Neither of these options is viable.

Whether you think your kid is old enough to date or not, you have to tackle the issue head-on. Take a deep breath and get ready to talk to your child about dating.

When are they "old enough"?

First things first: What on earth is even an OK age to start dating? It may come as a disappointment to parents that there are no rules here. Whether your child is "old enough" should be determined by your child. It's not unusual for certain 12-year-olds to be more mature than certain 15-year-olds, etc. Counselor Heidi McBain tells SheKnows if your child has a solid sense of herself, good time-management skills, is doing well at school and in her activities, is trustworthy (i.e., she is where she says she will be/calls when she says she will/comes home before curfew, etc.) and is emotionally mature in that she can handle positive and negative feelings in a healthy way, these are all signs she is mature enough to date.

Psychotherapist Kelley Kitley suggests that, bearing in mind each child's maturity level, middle school is a good time for kids to start dating if they are showing a natural interest in someone else. "It’s important for them to learn foundational skills of developing a relationship," she says. "I encourage the parents I work with to have open and honest dialogue, certainly about sexual intimacy and boundaries. In middle school, kids might be going out with a few friends including their love interest. Maybe they start developing a text communication first. It’s important to give them independence — but also supervision. Set ground rules about not being home alone without a parent."

"Try not to tie dating to an age, particularly if you have more than one child," warns licensed psychologist Julia Simens. Simens recommends looking at each situation and deciding if it is appropriate. For example, going to a school-sponsored date is very different than going to a late-night concert, and going on a date with a neighborhood friend is very different than going with a kid from another town.

Licensed psychologist Dr. Jennifer B. Rhodes tells SheKnows it's crucial you ask your child what their definition of dating actually is and consider how that compares to your definition of dating. "There may be a chance that the two definitions are not in alignment. If there is a general rule in place but open conversation can take place, it gives room for parents to express their concern. I would ask the child how they intend to meet their educational and social obligations and whether they would be open to their parent meeting their date. If the child does not have a legitimate point to make, they are simply not ready to date — and you have less work to do to justify your point of view."

When you think they're too young

If you think your child is too young to date, it's important to communicate your reasons for this rather than just saying, "I won't allow this."

"It’s important to process the reason so your kid doesn't view dating as a 'bad' thing," says Kitley. "You don’t want them to feel shameful for asking. Use an open and honest direct approach explaining your reasons why and suggesting what age it would be OK to date."

For example, if your kid is barely passing their classes, you might want them to improve their grades before they start dating (not as a punishment, but because spending time on dates would take time away from their studies). Or you might want your child to help out more with household chores to prove they're mature enough to date. As part of an open, honest, productive conversation about dating, take the chance to explain exactly what you need to see to know your child is mature enough (and ready) to date.

More: Moms Call BS on Work-Life Balance

When everyone else is dating

Prepare yourself for the "but everyone else is doing it" argument, and don't let guilt sway you if you genuinely believe your child is too young to date.

"Each family is different," says McBain. "A peer's parents might have different requirements for dating than your family. It’s important as a parent to separate out what everyone else is doing and focus on the values and expectations that your family has for your child."

When they're LGBTQ

It should go without saying that if your child wants to date someone of the same sex, that should not affect your approach at all. "As much as possible, respect your child’s decisions and be nonjudgmental about their sexual preferences. Trying to control the outcome will only hurt your relationship with them."

However, if your child wants to date the same sex, their maturity level might be even more critical, says McBain. Help prepare them in case someone makes a hurtful or otherwise insensitive comment toward them (because unfortunately, some people, even teens, still view same-sex relationships as undesirable.) And remember: Many kids do not come out to their parents first, largely out of fear of judgment or criticism. So do your absolute best to create a judgment-free zone where they feel safe.

When you're controlled by fear

If you approach your kid dating with a heavy hand, laying down the law and refusing to listen to their point of view, you risk damaging your relationship with them. The repercussions could be even greater if your child is at an age when most of their peers are already dating.

"If everyone your child knows is dating and they are not allowed to, they can start feeling left out and left behind with what the 'norm' is for people their age," says McBain. That doesn't mean you have to let them date if you truly believe they aren't ready, but you should consider your reasons carefully.

"Teens simply will not respect your authority if your reasons seem ridiculous," says Rhodes. "If you are parenting out of fear, you are more likely to get a battle. If you are parenting to help your teen have healthy experiences, then share your own dating stories from that age and express your wish that they have a different experience."

More: Have You Heard of Juuling? Chances Are Your Teen Has

As scary as it can be to let your child start dating, you're actually helping them learn important skills. Through dating, they learn to relate to other people and use communication and active-listening skills, which will help to prepare them for a relationship when they meet the right person. Whatever "rules" you may impose, always tell your child you truly want dating to be a positive, fun experience for them — when the time is right — and that you're up for chatting about it, without judgment or recrimination, whenever they wish.

How to Stop Obsessing Over a Past Relationship

$
0
0

It’s probably one of the hardest things about dating… breakups and ending all contact, thought and obsession over the ex. At times, it feels like you may never stop thinking about them. Even worse, you start obsessing over the life they may be living without you, who they may be dating now and whether you’ll ever get back together. Here’s what to do if this sounds like you.

Give up social media for a while

Social media has made it harder for women to stop obsessing over a partner, so the first thing Toni Coleman, a psychotherapist and relationship coach, recommends is to unfriend someone, at least until you are over them, or make a commitment not to check their page. “In addition, you will need to be careful of the pages/posts of mutual friends where you can see pictures and hear things about the ex and possibly the new person they are dating.”

Get rid of anything that reminds you of your ex

These can be small, inexpensive gifts and mementos, cards and letters, even clothing that once belonged to the ex should be purged. “These are all reminders that can trigger strong emotions and memories that lead to obsession,” says Coleman.

Resist the temptation to stage run-ins

I know this may sound rather elementary, but this one is important. “The very best way [to move on] is to eliminate all forms of contact, including meeting in person,” says Dr. Gary Brown, a relationship expert. That means not planning a run-in at your local coffee shop or gym. Rearrange your schedule if you need to.

Have a vision of the future… without the ex

In other words, imagine how good your life will be when you have finished grieving the loss of your ex. “The more details you can flesh out, the better your chances of bringing your new vision to life,” says Brown. Make a vision board of what you want for your future if it helps.

Do not contact them!

This is a big one. Initiate a no-contact rule until you have done your grieving and moved on to a place of acceptance that it is over. “As long as you can rationalize there is even a glimmer of hope that your ex still has feelings, has concern for how you are doing or wants to hear about what is going on in your life, you will not be able to break the cycle of obsession,” says Coleman.

Seek help from friends

There is nothing wrong with asking your friends to encourage you to stop talking to or about your ex. “Instead, ask them to encourage you to lick your wounds and take steps to move on with your life,” says Brown.

Book a vacation or start working toward it

When you go through an intense breakup, it can feel like where you live is a standing reminder of the relationship you lost, explains Amica Graber, a resident relationship expert for TruthFinder. “Sometimes the best way to break out of a rut is to try something dramatically different. Take that vacation you’ve always dreamed of. Invite your best girlfriends — or better yet, go solo. There is nothing more liberating than traveling alone, and you’ll remember how great being single can feel.”

Move, or at least redecorate

If you shared your living space with the ex, it’s going to be hard to move on when everything in your home reminds you of them, says Graber. “Consider moving to a new area of your town to get a fresh start if your lease is nearly up. At the very least, move around some furniture and repaint the walls.”

Start dating again

Get on a dating app and start dating again. “You might not enjoy it at first. Perhaps you won’t be able to stop thinking about your ex on a few inevitable bad dates. But make dating again a habit. As the saying goes, you fake it 'til you make it,” says Graber. At the very least, dating apps can help preoccupy you while your heart continues to heal.

Seek professional help

If it’s been months and you’re still obsessing to the point that you’re having a difficult time functioning socially, at home, at work and perhaps in school, it may be time to see a therapist, suggests Brown. There is nothing wrong with seeking professional help. All that matters is that you stop obsessing over your ex.

Do things for you

While you might feel like your world has ended and you’ll never get over your ex, you will. Graber recommends writing a bucket list of everything you want to do before you settle down and start doing them. She also notes, “Most people get married multiple times, experience multiple relationships and fall in love over and over again. The world hasn’t ended because your relationship did."

Here’s Why Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Are Forgoing Wedding Gifts

If you thought picking out a gift for your soon-to-be sister-in-law was tough, imagine having to pick out a gift fit for a royal. Luckily for attendees, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to make it simple: They would just like a donation to charity.

The palace made the announcement on Twitter (how modern!), saying: “Prince Harry & Ms. Meghan Markle are incredibly grateful for the goodwill they have received since their engagement, & have asked that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion of their wedding considers giving to charity, instead of sending a gift.”

Markle and the prince have selected seven charities for contribution for those wishing to celebrate their union. They are:

  • CHIVA, “which supports children growing up with HIV and their families. The charity helps to create a more hopeful and optimistic future for them, ensuring they achieve their greatest potential,” according to the palace.
  • Crisis, the national charity for the more than 160,000 homeless people in the U.K.

  • Myna Mahila Foundation, which helps to provide menstrual hygiene products for women living in Mumbai’s slums. Markle wrote about menstrual stigma and how it keeps girls out of school for Time magazine in 2017.
  • Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which offers support to children who have lost a parent who was serving in the British Armed Forces.
  • StreetGames, which uses sports as a way to aid children living in disadvantaged communities.
  • Surfers Against Sewage, which unites communities to protect beaches, oceans and wildlife.
  • Wilderness Foundation, which promotes wild nature and builds resilience in disadvantaged youth through wilderness therapy and leadership programs.

We admire the promotion of such beautiful charities. And at least we won’t need to decide between a candle and a toaster.

John Cusack Has Zero Faith in the Female-Led High Fidelity Reboot

Just go ahead and file the following under "Comments From a Male Actor That Nobody Asked For." The story you're about to read is particularly irksome, not just because it's reductive but because it also stems from the belief that some original films are so good even trying to reboot them would just be an affront to the legacy of the original. In the case of the recently announced High Fidelity reboot, this is completely not the case; this film needs a tune-up.

It was announced in the first week of April that a television reboot of the 2000 film High Fidelity, which originally starred John Cusack and Jack Black, would go into production for Disney's streaming service in the near future. The movie would not only be tailored for television instead of film, but it would also star a woman, not be a man (as was the case with Cusack in the film). The TV show will still feature some of the same key aspects of the film — a protagonist that breaks the fourth wall to discuss past relationships, the record store as one of the central locations for the story — while potentially retooling some of the more adult material down to a PG-13-rated story to make it accessible to a wider audience for the Disney streaming platform.

More: All the Nostalgic TV Shows & Movies Being Rebooted in 2018

This sounds like an exciting reimagining of a beloved '00s indie hit. I'm always a fan of gender-swapping as a means to unlocking new thematic possibilities within a previously established plot (which is certainly the case with the ego-driven, male-dominated, men-as-gatekeepers-of-pop-culture foundation upon which High Fidelity is built). I also think tinkering with a film of this quality for an audience like Disney's could make for some interesting new stories to be developed, so sure, why not go for it?

Welp, it turns out someone is determined to give their two unsolicited cents about this planned High Fidelity reboot, and yes, it's none other than Cusack himself. The star of the original film tweeted his thoughts about the planned reboot on Monday, and it seems he's ready to make it known he's not super-on board with what's happening. This should be good.

One commenter remarked, "The beauty of #HighFidelity is your character's exquisite, well scored, misery," and Cusack hopped in in agreement.

"Of course - they want to brand their thing with our thing- they’ll fuck it up," he replied, adding a winking smiley face at the end. While Cusack doesn't name the "they" in his statement, one could interpret this as a dig at Disney and Cusack having little faith in the writers assigned to this project (Pitchfork reports that the honor goes to former Ugly Betty scribes Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka) to capably adapt High Fidelity for a Disney audience.

Cusack continued in another tweet, "The woman part seems good / the rest not so much - but it’s [Nick Hornby's] book hope at least he’s involved- if he’s not - it’ll suck," he commented. Wow. OK, so, let's break that down, shall we? First off, you've gotta love the reductive vibes coming in hot from "the woman part seems good" part of this statement. But the real kicker is that Cusack seems ready to just knock this reboot down a peg without even giving it a chance to develop. Rather than endorse or even give it a chance, Cusack seems intent on being smarmy.

I'm not opposed to healthy criticism of an announced reboot during an era when there seems to be a deluge of reboots announced with regularity. But there's something uniquely annoying about Cusack piping in to offer what seems to be a belittling commentary. You mean to tell me that with the announcement of this reboot and the exciting new directions two high-profile female TV writers want to take this project, which will give new life to a film that is almost 20 years old and that doesn't have quite the same foothold in the zeitgeist as it once did, dear Cusack just wants to take it all down a peg or two with his snarky comments?

No thanks; you can keep your opinions to yourself, good sir.

I'm all tapped out on taking the negative approach to any reboot news. When this kind of news comes in as quickly as it seems to these days, it's probably more productive to get excited, be hopeful and give your support (if it's a project you care about, that is). Frankly, it's so much easier to be a fan of something rather than a critic. Let's hope the folks on the High Fidelity reboot team just brush the Cusack comments right off should they catch wind of them.

Ben Affleck Could Be Jennifer Garner's New Neighbor

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are really making their split work for them. There's been little in the way of public fights, shade or disputes since the couple officially parted ways back in April 2017. Instead, the former spouses have separated and have proceeded to rebuild their lives in various positive ways. They're each still working hard as actors, with Affleck currently filming his new movie Triple Frontier and Garner finishing up promotions on her film Love, Simon. They're also moving on in their personal lives, with Affleck currently dating Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus and Garner loving the single life and focusing all her love beams on her kids.

Now, Affleck and Garner's lives could intersect in a more tangible way if Affleck follows through on purchasing a home near his ex-wife. People magazine reported on Monday that Affleck is contemplating the purchase a new home near Garner. This does notably differ from the tone of the report over at X17online (People's source on this story), which implies Affleck's already purchased the home. Let's just split the difference and say chances are looking good that he and Garner will be neighbors, shall we?

The home sounds like a pretty fantastic pad. Reportedly coming in at around $19 to 20 million and located in Los Angeles, the home boasts seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a screening room, a gym, a family room, a maid's room, and the trappings of a typical Los Angeles home: pool, spa, guest house and barbecue. There's no mention of whether or not Shookus will also be calling the plush new house her home — interesting.

While neither Affleck nor Garner has commented about his move, it's easy to guess he'd be making the move for the couple's three children (Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6). Even though Affleck's professional schedule — which included promoting Justice League — has kept him on the road quite a lot over the last year, he's always made a concerted effort to co-parent with Garner and ensure the children's lives wouldn't be disrupted. Moving so close to Garner indicates he wants to continue this level of stability and keep things running as smoothly as possible for his kids.

Affleck and Garner have taken an especially focused approach to co-parenting since their split, with multiple reports over the last year showing the former spouses at various events together with their kids. This was the case as recently as Easter, when Garner joined Affleck and the kids in Hawaii. There's something really nice about seeing everyone get along under circumstances like these.

It looks like Garner and Affleck's lives are going to intersect once again — a healthy move for the benefit of the entire family.

Thinking of Being an Organ Donor? Here's What You Need to Know

$

We’ve all seen organ-donation stories play out in our favorite medical dramas: Our intrepid and improbably hot young doctors race against the clock to deliver the heart or liver or kidneys from a young and improbably hot accident victim — a super-fit bike messenger who careened into the wrong intersection most often — to an ailing, sallow-faced patient.

Or maybe we’ve heard all about it from the loudmouth neighbor who’s invited themselves over to watch said medical drama and who insists quite vociferously, "You know, if you have ‘organ donor’ checked on your ID, they won’t try to save you.”

The truth is both the high-rated medical drama and your neighbor are wrong: You don’t have to run the decathlon to donate your organs, and if you’re ever rushed to the emergency room, the medical teams will of course do their best to revive you.

More: Popular IVF Myths: Separating Fact From Fiction

April is National Donate Life Month, and it commemorates the greatest gift one human being can give another — the gift of another tomorrow. Yet organ donation is often unfairly stigmatized by damaging myths — the first and perhaps most damaging myth is that you must lose your life before you can give life to someone else.

Dr. Bryan Becker, physician and chief medical officer at DaVita Integrated Kidney Care tells SheKnows, "Living kidney donation can not only provide faster access to transplantation but also has been associated with better long-term transplant kidney survival and a reduced risk of kidney-transplant rejection.”

He says the most common myths about living organ donation are that donors must be related and that making a living donation is risky. “One in 4 living donors aren’t biologically related to the recipient,” he says, citing the advancements of medical technology, especially “the evolution of immunosuppressants [antirejection drugs].” Becker is quick to add that an organ-donation surgery is about as safe as any other kind of surgery (all of which carry certain risks) and that certain procedures can be performed laparoscopically.

More: Wondering if You Have a UTI? Here Are Some of the Symptoms

One of the most useful aspects of living donation (beyond, well, the living part) is that you can speak with other donors to make a truly informed decision.

“It is important to take an active role in seeking information and consulting with your local transplant team should you be eligible to become a living donor,” Becker advises. “Talk with your family and friends as you carefully consider the physical, emotional and financial implications of becoming a living donor.”

However, even posthumous donations come with their share of untrue stereotypes — the most obvious being that only people in peak physical condition can be organ donors.

“What someone is able to donate is determined at the time and circumstances of death," Andi O’Malley, community relations director at the LifeCenter Organ Donor Network, tells SheKnows. For example, someone with active cancer could potentially be a cornea donor. And in order to be a tissue donor, the patient does not have to have to be in the hospital on a ventilator — they could have died on the scene in a car accident.

Dr. David Klassen, physician and chief medical officer for the United Network for Organ Sharing, tells SheKnows he concurs, adding, “There have been a number of liver donors in their 90s. And very few medical conditions are absolute rule-outs.” The United Network for Organ Sharing’s website also states, “[O]rgan donation is consistent with the beliefs of most major religions.”

The other big scene we’re likely to find in one of those medical dramas (other than the residents canoodling, of course) is a prospective donor’s family member forcefully refusing to let our heroes harvest those lifesaving organs. According to Gail Rubin, a certified thanatologist (or death educator) and author of A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don’t Plan to Die and Kicking the Bucket List: 100 Downsizing and Organizing Things to Do Before You Die, a next-of-kin does have the right to deny the donation.

“Your closest next-of-kin… will likely be in a state of shock, and your wishes may not be honored unless you’ve had a serious conversation about this in advance,” Rubin tells SheKnows. “Don’t be afraid to talk about these issues. As I like to say, ‘Talking about sex won’t make you pregnant, and talking about funerals and end-of-life issues won’t make you dead.’”

Organ donation may not be on the top of our minds (unless, of course, we’re writers on those medical dramas), but it’s important to learn the truth about this amazing resource and to consider giving more than just an organ, but a chance at new life.

The Best Dance Scenes in Movie History

One of the most epic dance movies in history was Flashdance, released in 1983. It was about a struggling woman, just 18 years old, working two jobs — a welder by day and an exotic dancer by night — with a dream of getting into ballet school. Long before the snobs of Rodeo Drive turned their noses up at Julia Roberts, Jennifer Beals faced off against an uppity audition board at a high-class ballet program. When she walked into that audition with her leg warmers and off-the-shoulder sweatshirt, a look was born. When she pulled a bucket of water down on herself (didn’t that make dancing really unsafe?), millions of boys fell in love. Millions of girls turned up Michael Sembellos’ "Maniac" and Irena Cara's "What a Feeling" and jumped around our bedrooms dancing like we’d never danced before.

Flashdance What a Feeling

In honor of the 35th anniversary of the movie that influenced so much of the way music mixed with movies in the 1980s, let's look at the 10 best dance scenes we’ve ever seen.

Singing in the Rain, "Singing in the Rain"

When Don finally gets his girl, his celebratory dance-walk home exudes the kind of joy we all know comes from early love. The technical tapping combines with some graceful acting for a scene that can’t help but put a smile on your face.

The Breakfast Club, library dance scene

It’s hard to put a finger on what makes this moment of rebellion so appealing. Molly Ringwald’s moving with abandon? Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall and Emilio Estevez’s railing walk? Ally Sheedy’s modern moves? Or maybe it’s the words of the music by Karla DeVito reminding us that no matter how different we are, we are not alone.

Saturday Night Fever, "You Should Be Dancing"

When John Travolta said, “Oh, forget this,” about traditional club dancing and took over the floor, it epitomized 1970s cool. Travolta’s dancing may be a little technically questionable, but the Bee Gees' music and glittering dance floor make the overall effect fun to watch. And don’t you dare say you haven’t tried some of those moves at least once.

West Side Story, Prologue

There are many great dances to choose from in this iconic movie, but this opening number uses nothing but dance to set the stage for the tension that exists between the two rival gangs. Watching choreographed groups of teenage boys dance-fight their way across New York City never seemed less silly.

Chicago, "Cell Block Tango"

It’s always impressive to see people we know aren’t professional dancers pulling off incredible dance moves. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who epitomizes class and refinement, is so raw and strong in this performance, it’s unforgettable. And the spot-on group tango is riveting.

Dirty Dancing, "Time of Your Life"

No movie of the '80s had a more memorable climax than the story of Baby and Johnny, finally getting to dance in front of everyone. Nobody has ever made dancing look manlier than Patrick Swayze, who will live on through his sharp footwork and that iconic lift.

Gold Diggers of 1935, "Lullaby of Broadway"

The song is better known than this amazing dance scene, which set the standard for large, choreographed dance numbers. Choreographer Busby Berkeley pulled from his past as an Army man to teach formation dancing and timing, and he produced some of the most organized tapping in history.

Footloose, "Footloose"

While Kevin Bacon brings the technical dance skills to this 1984 classic, it’s the pure abandon of kids having innocent fun that makes this scene so iconic. While Kenny Loggins' version of the song is the better choice, the 2011 remake did a great job of updating the classic while keeping some of the most memorable moves. Here’s a chance to see them both.

Step Up 2, final dance

This climactic scene pays homage to so many dance movies before it, but as the song says, "It's the new style." Pulling from every modern influence from breaking to popping to krumping, this massive number brought the fun of a concert stage to the screen.

Why It's So Important to Keep Your Tooth Enamel Healthy

Toothbrush with toothpaste

Are you happy with your teeth? Maybe this isn't something you've thought about before, but believe it or not, an entire study was done on this very topic. The research, which was commissioned by the American Association of Orthodontists and came out in 2012, found that one-third of American adults are unhappy with their teeth and by extension feel self-conscious about their smiles. Knowledge about oral hygiene is power — and it'll help us achieve the pearly whites we crave. The first step is getting to know everything about our teeth starting with enamel.

Enamel is the outer layer of our teeth that forms a shell to protect them from decay. "Tooth enamel is considered the hardest mineral substance in your body, even stronger than bone," Dr. Frank Baccelli, dental hygiene instructor at Carrington College, tells SheKnows.

The main purpose of enamel is to protect the teeth from any sort of damage. Because it's stronger than bone, we might expect that enamel is invincible — but unfortunately, it's not. "Although tooth enamel is a hard, protective surface, it can crack or chip fairly easily," Baccelli says. "When plaque sticks to tooth enamel, destructive bacteria grow in it. The bacteria convert sugar in food to an acid, which can weaken the enamel."

More: Why Do We Clench & Grind Our Teeth When We Sleep?

Enamel can repair itself by using minerals from saliva and fluoride from toothpaste, Baccelli explains. But over time, it may weaken and be destroyed. That's when a cavity forms.

Cavities are a dental nightmare, but luckily, there are steps we can take to keep our tooth enamel healthy. Baccelli recommends being vigilant about brushing and flossing and suggests using tooth care products that contain fluoride.

Diet also plays a role in maintaining healthy tooth enamel. "Limit sugary foods and drinks, and eat foods that protect tooth enamel. Calcium in food counters the acids in your mouth that cause decay," Baccelli advises.

More: Dental Secrets That Will Make You Finally Take Care of Your Teeth

If you happen to have a sweet tooth (*raises handed*), don't despair — you don't have to swear off all your favorite treats to save your enamel. Dr. Steven Golubow, dentist at Zebulon Dental Center, tells SheKnows that getting your sugar fix all at once is the healthiest option when it comes to protecting your enamel.

"Studies have shown that it's actually the frequency of the changes in pH, not the amount of change, that is the biggest factor in getting risk for tooth decay," Golubow explains. "So it's not how much sugar you eat, but how often you eat it. So you are better off indulging all at one time as opposed to spaced out throughout the day."

More: Your Prosecco Habit Could Be Ruining Your Teeth

Bacteria isn't the only thing that can damage tooth enamel, Golubow says. Despite the fact that it's extremely hard and durable, acid erosion and abrasion can also destroy enamel. He recommends avoiding hard toothbrushes for this reason. Additionally, people who clench and grind their teeth are at a greater risk of eroding their enamel — so if you struggle with grinding your teeth, definitely talk with your dentist about possible solutions.

If you're worried your tooth enamel is damaged, don't panic. Golubow explains that although it can't be regrown, "enamel can easily be repaired with proper diet and good oral hygiene habits."

If the enamel is destroyed to the point that the dentin (the tissue that makes up the bulk of your tooth) is exposed, Golubow says it's crucial to seek the help of a professional. "A dentist must intervene and protect remaining tooth structure through fillings, crowns or other types of dental restorations," he notes.

Dental restorations of this nature are often painful and expensive — but luckily, they may not be a necessity forever. "Recent research advancements prove promising for enamel regeneration or regrowth as a possibility in the near future," Golubow says.

Until enamel-regeneration becomes a reality, be vigilant about brushing, flossing and getting routine dental checkups. And I don't know about you, but I'm going to add, "Eat sugar fix," to my planner. After all, we can protect our enamel and still enjoy the sweet things in life.

Which States Are Best for Homeschooling? A State-by-State Breakdown

Since 1993, homeschooling has been legal in all 50 states in the U.S., and according to the National Center for Education Statistics, in the 2011 – 2012 school year (the most recent data available), over 3 percent of the school-age population was homeschooled — an increase from 2.2 percent in 2003. While it's clear homeschooling is slightly on the rise, the guidelines are not at all predictable, nor are they uniform from state to state. This leads many prospective homeschooling parents to ask: Which states are the best for homeschooling? Well, it depends on what you mean by "best."

For example, among parents who homeschool, some states have been labeled as more homeschool-friendly than others. However, this simply means that those states' record-keeping, testing and reporting standards are more lax, which is not necessarily a good thing to say the least.

Of course parents should have the right to choose the educational option that best suits their needs — however, not every homeschooling situation is equal. Some parents are better suited for the job than others, and some just need direction to get started — and to ensure their kids' proper education. Opinions on how much regulation is too much regulation vary, but one thing is for sure: States across the country have very different regulations.

More: 7 Things Moms Who Homeschool Their Kids Want You to Know

Homeschooling regulations by state

HSLDA, a homeschooling advocacy organization, has created a map showing which states require the most regulation.

  • States requiring no notice to the school district about homeschooling include Alaska, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Texas.
  • States with low regulation include California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Delaware.
  • States with moderate regulation (parental notification, plus test scores and/or professional student progress evaluations must be sent to the district) include Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Louisiana, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
  • States with high regulation (all the above regulations, plus other requirements — e.g., curriculum approval by the state, teacher qualification of parents or home visits by state officials) include Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

While state-by-state laws are always subject to change, you can see a full breakdown of the 2015 state homeschooling law comparisons provided in a chart by ProPublica. In the chart, ProPublica breaks state regulations down further based on parent education minimums, criminal bans, state-mandated subjects and assessment and vaccine requirements. For example, New York is a "stricter" state and has an annual assessment as well as state-mandated subjects compared to a more lenient state such as Alabama, which has no state-mandated subjects or annual assessments.

What parents say

Sandra Hook, a mother who's homeschooling her 10-year-old, finds her home state of New York to be much stricter than the other states she's researched. "NYS has a list of subjects that need to be taught yearly as well as what testing needs to be done and when," Hook explains. "I have to report progress quarterly to the school district we live in. I also have to send in a letter of intent yearly telling the district my intent is to homeschool my child, and I have to submit an individual education plan every August detailing what we plan to learn and what books/programs we will be using to learn that information."

To prep herself for the homeschooling challenge that was to come, Hook says she did a lot of reading and gathered plenty of advice from fellow homeschooling moms in local Facebook groups. Hook says now, with more years of experience under her belt, she's found less to be more when relaying homeschooling information to the school district. Her best advice for other moms in her shoes who are dealing with more stringent regulations is to keep it short and sweet. "If they need more, they will ask!"

But, again, is a less-is-more-information approach really the best policy? And what happens if you're in a state without all that red tape to begin with?

Debbie Wolfe of The Prudent Garden is a homeschooling mom of two elementary school-age boys in Georgia, a state she finds to be more lenient. Wolfe urges all homeschooling parents to take the time to read their local regulations and ask questions about any information they don’t understand.

She says, "In my first year of homeschooling, I found that the department of education in my state was actually helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I think that most homeschoolers feel like the government frowns upon them and are intimidated to deal with them." But as Wolfe found out, a kind word goes a long way when asking for clarification about regulations. "If you are polite and cordial, you will find that you can get answers and help without any additional headaches," Wolfe says.

Pregnancy Heartburn: 4 Tips to Stop Feeling the Burn

$

You may already know that the hormone progesterone does a lot of really vital stuff during pregnancy; essentially, it creates a secure, healthy home/uterus for the fertilized egg and then the growing baby. But with the wonderful comes the not so wonderful in the form of a progesterone-fueled pregnancy side effect many parents-to-be can relate to: pregnancy heartburn.

Sorry to shatter the myth, but heartburn during pregnancy has absolutely nothing to do with how much hair your baby has. It's a result of the fact that progesterone, while relaxing the uterine muscles, also relaxes the valve at the top of the stomach. This allows gastric acid to splash back up — or reflux — into the esophagus.

And if you're wondering whether you have pregnancy heartburn, you probably don't. It's a pretty unmistakable symptom: an intense, disruptive burning sensation in the chest and throat that makes eating a challenge and can interfere with sleep.

More: Do Pregnancy "Rules" Really Matter?

"It's a rite of passage for about 60 percent of pregnant women," Dr. Sherry Ross, an OB-GYN at Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, tells SheKnows. According to Ross, heartburn typically begins in the second trimester and continues throughout the rest of the pregnancy.

"I don't usually see pregnancy heartburn in my clients before 24 weeks gestation," Karly Nuttall, licensed midwife and cohost of the Birth Kweens podcast, tells SheKnows. "As your growing baby starts to take up more room in your abdomen and shrink the stomach's capacity, it pushes the stomach's contents up through the relaxed esophagus, and voila — heartburn!"

We're not going to lie to you, pregnant people. You might not be able to avoid pregnancy heartburn altogether. But you can follow these expert tips to minimize the burn and get back to enjoying food (and sleeping) as much as possible.

1. Avoid common heartburn triggers

Craving fried or fatty foods during pregnancy? That might be one longing you should try to resist. Foods with high fat content are more difficult to digest, says Ross. This causes a delay in the emptying of your stomach, which creates more acids. Instead, go for grilled, roasted or baked foods.

Another dietary no-no for heartburn sufferers is spicy foods, as these can irritate the lining of the esophagus. If possible, stick to blander foods with minimal seasoning during pregnancy (and look forward to that hot curry as soon as Baby is born). Acidic foods — including grains, sugar, dairy, processed foods, fruits and fruit juices — can also cause heartburn because they hike up acidity levels in the stomach. Safer alkaline alternatives include soy, unsweetened yogurt and milk, fresh vegetables, potatoes, beans, olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds.

More: Pregnant Belly "Face" Masks: Brilliant or Bogus?

2. Eat small & slow

As well as avoiding common dietary triggers, Ross recommends eating several small meals a day instead of three large ones and taking your time when eating. Try not to wash down your food with too much liquid, which can increase the risk of acid reflux. It may be preposterous to say, "Don't lie down," to pregnant women, but... don't lie down straight after eating. When you do lie down, keep your head higher than your feet, such as by placing pillows under your shoulders. This helps prevent stomach acids rising up into your chest.

3. Try natural remedies

Nuttall recommends massaging your respiratory diaphragm to make more room for your stomach (this is easier than it sounds, and you can get great tutorials on YouTube — but check in with your midwife or OB-GYN first to make sure you're doing it correctly).

Other natural remedies for heartburn include slippery elm lozenges and taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with every meal. Drinking baking soda (one teaspoon) dissolved in water (8 ounces) may also relieve heartburn symptoms because baking soda's alkaline pH means it neutralizes stomach acids. Ross recommends drinking a half-cup of aloe vera juice because its anti-inflammatory properties calm the stomach and esophagus that become inflamed from a buildup of acid. Another simple but often very effective home remedy for heartburn is chewing gum; this stimulates the salivary glands, helping to clear the buildup of acid in the stomach.

However, these strategies don't work every time for everyone, so if your heartburn is extreme or disturbing your sleep, you may need an over-the-counter medication.

4. Take heartburn medication safe for pregnancy

Before you take any OTC meds for pregnancy heartburn, make sure they're safe. Medications such as Tums help coat the esophagus and minimize the burning sensation and are safe during pregnancy. (Nuttall recommends taking no more than two Tums per day.)  Other OTC medications that help with heartburn symptoms include Zantac and Pepcid AC. These medications should be taken 30 minutes before each meal and before bedtime for optimal results, advises Ross. It's unusual to have to take a prescription medication for pregnancy heartburn symptoms, but consult with your obstetrician or health care provider if you don't get relief from OTC meds.

If you're feeling the burn during pregnancy, take some comfort from the fact that millions of other parents-to-be are fighting the same battle against stomach acids. (And that there is some good news: Heartburn usually disappears as soon as the baby arrives.)

Rachel McAdams Reportedly Welcomed Her First Child With Boyfriend Jamie Linden

Actor Rachel McAdams of Mean Girls and The Notebook fame told InStyle in 2010, “Part of me is very attached to the idea of having children. It’ll depend on if I find the person I want to do that with.”

Well, looks like McAdams has indeed found the right person in partner Jamie Linden, a screenwriter (yes, we know — it should have been Ryan Gosling, and we're not over that either). Reports have surfaced that McAdams and Linden recently welcomed a baby boy. Hollywood Pipeline also published photos that appear to show McAdams walking with Linden, who is carrying a tiny baby in his arms as the couple leaves lunch. It's important to note that the identities in the pics have yet to be verified, and no rep for McAdams or Linden has confirmed the birth. But of course, the internet is lit with news of the birth and congrats to the new parents regardless. Rumors about a baby on the way kicked off in earnest when McAdams opted out of the premiere of her comedy with Jason Bateman, Game Night.

Here's How Amber Heard Is Spending Her Divorce Settlement Money

The divorce drama between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was some of the saddest news to come out of 2016. But Heard showed everyone the way to make lemonade out of proverbial lemons when she promised to donate any money from her divorce settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Now, it seems she’s made good on that promise. The Children’s Hospital released their 2017 annual report which lists their “Honor Roll of Donors” and breaks the list down by the donated amount. In the report, a "Ms. Amber Heard" is listed in the column for gifts between $1 and $5 million dollars.

MoreAmber Heard & Boyfriend Elon Musk Are Fighting Separate Battles

In a statement from the CHLA, Heard was included in those thanked for their donation. “We are honored to acknowledge our extraordinary donors for their generosity during the fiscal year 2017,” the report reads. “On behalf of all the children and families whose lives you have impacted, and everyone at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, we offer our sincere thanks.”

Heard’s divorce and subsequent $7 million dollar settlement from Depp was one of the more shocking news stories in 2016 as it included allegations of domestic violence. Depp defended himself vigorously in the press, and in turn, called Heard’s settlement request “a blatant attempt to extend her 15 minutes of fame.” Critics instantly piled on, accusing Heard of gold-digging, which was something of an ad hominem attack that Heard seemed intent on disproving. Shortly after this, she made a public promise to donate the settlement to charity.

The whole situation was terrible and surprising, but it was a reminder that no matter what someone’s public face is like we never know what happens behind closed doors. Depp was one of the world’s most popular actors at the time he met Heard on the set of The Rum Diary. Heard was an actress with a solid resume but without a real breakout hit to make her a household name. Her decision to take on one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, which ultimately came at a great financial loss for her, was a real precursor of the #TimesUp movement. Heard’s willingness to take on to Depp and his attorneys were the kind of example that victims everywhere look to for courage and inspiration.

On average there are more than 20,000 phone calls to domestic violence hotlines across the nation. The prevalence of this issue led Heard to not only promise to donate her divorce settlement but to create a PSA of her own about the very troublesome issue wherein she gave a testimony of her own experience despite not naming Depp.

There’s no word yet on whether Heard has yet or will donate to the ACLU as she also promised, but based on her actions here it’s a good bet she’ll be good on her word.

Khloé Kardashian Could Not Eat This 'Disgusting' Food While Pregnant

When Khloé Kardashian got pregnant, she probably never thought it'd inadvertently make her a vegan for a brief period of time. But that's exactly what happened.

In early March, Kardashian updated her fans on her pregnancy diet on her website, saying, "I've been eating like a beast and I don't like it, LOL. In my second trimester, I was giving in to my cravings in moderation — but now in my third, I just don't have the self-control I used to have. Like it seriously all went out the window in my eighth month!"

But clearly, she does have some self-control when it comes to one particular food group: meat.

On her website (which you need to subscribe to for $2.99 per month to access), Kardashian revealed she hadn't been able to look at, let alone eat, any type of meat in the final weeks of her pregnancy.

"Before pregnancy, I really only ate chicken or turkey — no pork, red meat, most fish, lamb, etc.," she writes. "But now, I find meat absolutely disgusting, LOL. Just the sight of it makes me nauseous. So, I've become somewhat of a vegetarian during pregnancy, but not by choice."

It didn't last long, though. She made clear toward the end of the blog post that meat "doesn't repulse [her] as much anymore."

Maybe this means she'll grab another order of Popeye's as she waits for her due date — like she did just a few weeks ago.

In true Khloé Kardashian fashion, she hasn't slipped up in terms of exercising throughout her pregnancy, and she's made some adjustments to her diet. Her nutritionist, Dr. Philip Goglia, shared with People that she's added some dairy, and she maintains "proper exercise protocols."

"[Khloé's] just a warrior," he says. "She really is fitness; it's what defines her. She's got a great attitude and she's super excited."

More recently, though, Kardashian's been "bored AF" waiting — as her due date quickly approaches. She has even resorted to posting to her Snapchat a video of herself with a bunny ears filter sitting on her birthing ball in her kitchen. Kardashian then posted a romantic Instagram photo of her and her Cleveland Cavaliers player boyfriend, Tristan Thompson, captioning it: "We are ready whenever you are little mama."

She and Thompson have been staying at their home in Cleveland, Ohio, over the past few weeks, and she plans to give birth in that city. It's reported Kris Jenner will fly out for the birth.

We're with Khloé: Any day now, baby girl!
