How to Convince Kids a Leprechaun Has Been in the House

0
0

Oh, St. Paddy’s Day. Favorite holiday of small children, Bono and the makers of green food dye. There is nothing more iconically St. Patrick’s Day than those roguish tricksters, the leprechauns. Legend has it leprechauns are tiny creatures who drink heavily and cause mischief, wreaking havoc on unsuspecting, innocent humans, often while said humans are asleep and unaware. Think of the leprechaun as the Elf on the Shelf’s evil Irish twin.

So when March 17 rolls around this year, why not work some magic — and, OK, play a friendly prank — on your favorite kids by trying to convince them a real-life leprechaun has paid their home a visit? Fair warning: Kids may love these fun tricks so much, you’ll be stuck doing them every year until they go to college. Worth it.

Make sure to have a magnifying glass on hand, because these teeny-tiny notes are going to need a closer look. Place these free — and decidedly minuscule — printable leprechaun notes from Studio DIY around the house for the kids to find, and encourage them to leave notes for the leprechaun in return.

Leprechaun in Your House: Rainbow on the Windshield

If March 17 falls on a weekday, continue the trickery on the way to school with this simple but spectacular rainbow-on-the-windshield trick inspired by Helmut Smits. All you need is colored foam paint (just have a wet rag handy to wipe it off quickly so you can see to drive) — kids will adore the bright surprise.

Even a busy leprechaun needs to take a break from creating chaos and use the, um, facilities. With a couple of drops of green food coloring and some washable green paint, you can follow this leprechaun pee trick from Dangerously Delicious and elicit plenty of kid giggles when they go into the bathroom in the morning. Because who doesn’t love a good bathroom joke? And speaking of the bathroom, while you're in there setting this trick up, go ahead and unspool the toilet paper, TP the shower, and write a message or joke on the mirror in green soap. Leprechauns love to make a mess, after all.

Leprechaun in Your House: Leprechauns Mischief Photos

Leprechauns love to make mischief, so make copies of your beloved family photos — or just take a dry-erase marker to the glass-framed ones — and give your kid devil horns, buckteeth or a Tom Selleck mustache. Go nuts. Think classic high school yearbook-style defacement. In fact, you might want to take a picture of your handiwork — you know, for kiddo's actual high school yearbook.

Leprechaun in Your House: Green Carnations

Arrange some white carnations, daisies or roses in a vase. After the kids head to bed, add green food coloring, and voila. Overnight, your naughty "leprechaun" will have turned your flowers green. Pair them with an apology note from the leprechaun for all the household mess and mischief (hey, no one said leprechauns can’t be remorseful).

Leprechaun in Your House: Four Leaf Clover Temporary Tattoo

This one can be a little tricky, but depending on how deeply your kids sleep, try putting this free printable four-leaf clover temporary tattoo (you'll need to stock up on the special printer paper first) from Modern Parents Messy Kids on your children while they sleep. They’ll be stunned to discover a leprechaun was in their room and they didn’t wake up! If they’re light sleepers, you can always try a St. Patrick’s Day sticker instead or just slather on some green lipstick and give them a smooch.

Leprechaun in Your House: Shamrock Streamers

Since leprechauns love wreaking havoc, feel free to "TP" your kids' rooms — or any room, really — with these super-simple shamrock streamers. Some other festive mess ideas: Fill your bathtub with green balloons or blanket everything under some green silly string. You can even turn the water from your faucet green for a truly magical leprechaun trick. Simply follow these step-by-step instructions.

More:  Crate & Barrel is Taking Over Kids Rooms in a Major Way

All of these tricks are guaranteed to elicit many an excited early-morning holler from the kids when they awake to discover all the shenanigans the leprechaun was up to. Plus, you know, rumor has it that if a leprechaun likes your house, he tends to come back every year. So maybe keep a few of these tricks in your back pocket for future years of monkey business.

And hey, if the last green cupcake just happens to mysteriously disappear on St. Patrick's Day... blame it on the leprechaun.

Which Rude Celebrity Ruined Demi Lovato's Fun Time at the 2016 Met Gala?

Demi Lovato has always been open and honest about her sobriety, including the times she's struggled to maintain it. It turns out that one of those times was at the Met Gala in 2016, when another unnamed celebrity was so rude to Lovato, she had to leave early to avoid drinking.

More: Demi Lovato's Support of Miley Cyrus' Sobriety Is Good for the Sisterhood

In a new interview in Billboard, Lovato opens up about the first Met Gala she attended (which may also have been her last).

"I had a terrible experience," she said. "This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink."

So, Lovato texted her manager to give a heads-up, then ducked out of the star-studded event to head to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in New York City.

More: Demi Lovato Lied About Her Sobriety While Promoting Sobriety

"I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting," she continued. "And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala — fake and sucking the fashion industry’s dick."

Props to Lovato for not only doing what she needed to do to maintain her sobriety in that moment, but also for being so open about it. Everyone with addiction has struggles, and it's important to know that you can overcome them.

As for the celebrity who was so rude to Lovato, she's not saying who it was. But Lovato's Instagram post from the night of the Met Gala may provide a clue.

Then again, maybe it was someone else entirely. Unless Lovato spills the tea or the rude person 'fesses up, we may never know for sure.

No, Olivia Munn Is Not Dating Justin Theroux

Hey, world, we need to have a talk about Olivia Munn. Now, for some reason, a lot of folks out there are kind of obsessed with speculating wildly about Munn's romantic life, and many seem eager to pair her up with one newly single famous celebrity or another. Why must we be like this? Can we not let Munn live her life, drama-free and on her own terms? The answer is, apparently, a resounding no.

More: Rumors Are Spreading Fast That Olivia Munn & Chris Pratt Are Dating

On Thursday, Munn took to her Instagram story to post a series of photos — three were personal comments and one was a screenshot of a text exchange with her publicist — denying any rumors that she was dating Justin Theroux. The rumors, it would appear, are unfounded, and one could surmise that they're only getting traction because Munn and Theroux have worked together in the past, they are both famous, they are friendly with one another and they are both currently single.

Munn began her defense with this ominous message: "Text from my publicist just a few minutes ago..." Afterward, a screenshot of a text exchange pops up in which her publicist warns Munn that InTouch Weekly is apparently working up a report about her secretly dating Theroux.

Her rep writes, "In Touch is preparing a story about Olivia Munn and Justin Theroux. Sources tell In Touch Olivia and Justin are growing close together and they are heading towards a romance," to which Munn replies, "Oh my God. That is so stupid."

More: Justin Theroux's First Post-Split Instagram Isn't About Jennifer Aniston

In two photos, Munn then wrote the following personal statement, which completely denied these rumors that InTouch is apparently geared up to report: "Since they said they're running that story even if we said it's 100 million percent not true, I thought I'd just let you guys know on my own that it's not," she wrote, before going on to address InTouch and all other tabloids directly.

"Dear Tabloids, please stop matching me with my friends' exes. No disrespect to people who date their friends' exes, that's just not my style. Kthxbye!" she concluded.

Olivia Munn Justin Theroux Dating Denial Pic 4

In short, it's ridiculous that Munn even has to reply to stories like these, especially when the men in these rumors never feel the need to go on the record to deny anything. When she was linked to Chris Pratt a short while back, Munn had to go on a mini rant to dispel those rumors while Pratt just continued to live his life. While Theroux hasn't released any kind of comment just yet, one could make the educated guess that he likely will not; meanwhile, Munn is out here on Instagram shooting down rumors like a skilled sharpshooter.

More: Olivia Munn Is Ready for Attitudes on Sexual Assault to Change

So, not only is it low-key sexist that Munn has to defend her personal life — which is hers to live and definitely not the public's concern — but she also has to make it extra clear that she is not some beautiful temptress trying to ruin her friendships with her female friends by dating their ex-husbands. I mean, this is just ridiculous.

I think it's high time we all make a pact to just let Munn be from here on out. When she's ready to tell us about her love life, she'll tell us on her own terms.

Why I Highly Recommend Going on an Adventure With a Group of Strangers

0
0

I’ve never traveled by myself. I didn’t take one of those epic backpacking trips in my 20s, making friends on the hostel circuit. I’ve never jetted off somewhere on my own just because. Growing up, I traveled with my family, and since then, I’ve always explored new destinations (or returned to favorite ones) with friends.

So when I booked a vacation with Topdeck Travel — a company that organizes group trips for solo travelers — for a sailing trip around Ibiza, I felt nervous about joining the group without knowing anyone. Wouldn’t the experience be more fun if I had a buddy on board? Even if we didn’t click with anyone else, we’d have each other and tons of memories between us afterward.

More: The 7 Best Places for a 2018 Destination Wedding

But I needed an adventure, and I knew I would regret passing up such an incredible opportunity — so I took the plunge solo.

The benefits of joining an organized group trip like this were immediately obvious, especially as our skipper ferried us from the dock to the sailboat that would be our home for the week. My friends can hardly settle on a place to eat brunch, much less charter a boat, plot its course around the Mediterranean and somehow manage to get food and drinks — yes, even brunch! — on board.

Aside from logistics, there were boons to traveling with total strangers that I never would have imagined. Of course, it helped that we were in paradise. But each of us got there by virtue of our decision to dive in alone. We didn’t have to juggle schedules with our friends or families, waiting to agree on a time or destination that worked for everyone. We got to be selfish about doing something we wanted to do, and that felt good.

We were also granted the opportunity to be the best versions of ourselves. In a way, it almost felt like a mini first week of college — a chance to start fresh, free from the expectations and assumptions of people who already know us. In my case, I didn’t have to be the one who’s always a bit hesitant to go in the ocean (another reason a sailing trip was a big leap for me). I got to try on a side of me that’s just another fish in the water like everyone else, jellyfish be damned.

Because we were each carrying a blank slate upon arrival, everyone on the trip was on their best behavior, eager to put their best foot forward. I’m not so sure my friends would have been as gracious with one another as our group of five was, bunking below deck and sharing a single bathroom on a 50-foot sailboat. Of course, now I’m happy to count my fellow shipmates as friends too.

Proximity brought our group close, so to speak, but the adventures we shared really forged lasting bonds between us. A study published in the journal SCAN showed that shared experiences foster close connections, and in some ways, it’s obvious why — think again of how many memories you share with college friends. Similarly, emotional responses to experiences and events are heightened when we share them with others. So whether we were exploring Old Town or making a cameo at Amnesia where Paris Hilton hosts a DJ residency, our pleasures were enhanced simply by having each other’s company.

Travel usually means leaving our comfort zones, whether it’s exploring an unfamiliar culture, placing our faith in a TripAdvisor review or, for some, even climbing aboard a plane. Embarking on a journey halfway across the world with a group of total strangers was entirely outside of mine. It was also a week I’ll never forget — thanks in part to the connections I made along the way.

A Nun Suing Katy Perry Has Died After Collapsing in Court

In a tragic and shocking turn of events, a nun embroiled in a lawsuit with Katy Perry collapsed during a court appearance on Friday and died soon after.

Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, 89, was a member of The Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was one of two nuns currently mired in a legal battle with the pop star over the sale of their former convent in Los Angeles. In 2015, Perry proposed purchasing the property, which consists of eight-acres and numerous Roman-villa style buildings in the Los Feliz neighborhood.

While the figure on the table was $14.5 million, the nuns' issue wasn't with the offer. Rather, they were reportedly uncomfortable with the idea of Perry in particular owning the convent. The matter came under legal scrutiny in 2016 when the nuns tried to sell it instead to a boutique hotel developer, at which point a judge stepped in and deemed that sale invalid.

Shortly before her death, according to USA Today, Holzman lamented the judge's ruling to KTTV, saying, "To Katy Perry, please stop. It's not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people."

As news of Holzman's passing broke, Archbishop Jose Gomez issued a statement saying the faithful nun had served her community "with dedication and love for many years." He went on to add, "I was sad to hear the news of her passing and I have offered a Mass for the repose of her soul. We extend our prayers today to the Immaculate Heart of Mary community and to all of her friends and loved ones."

Could Robin Wright Secretly Be Married Right Now?

Fans at Paris' Parc des Princes stadium on March 6 had their eyes trained on much more than just soccer — they were understandably distracted by House of Cards star Robin Wright and boyfriend Clement Giraudet. And while any celebrity sighting is cause for a bit of commotion, the excitement over Wright and Giraudet had much to do with the matching rings spotted on their left hands.

Yep, the pair was spotted sporting rings on that finger.

More: Robin Wright Was Grossly Objectified in an Audition

The low-key couple was in town for the EUFA Champions League Round between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Real Madrid. When they rose and made their way down the row of seats toward the exit, a photographer captured a snap of what appears to be photographic evidence the pair got married.

Of course, it's entirely possible Wright and Giraudet wear the rings to symbolize their commitment but haven't yet gotten hitched.

More: Robin Wright's Daughter Is Gorgeous, Grown-Up & Basically Her Twin

Giraudet, the Saint Laurent VIP relations manager, was first linked to Wright officially in September 2017 when they were caught getting cozy at — sensing a pattern yet? — a soccer match at Parc de Princes Stadium. They did, however, have a "chaperone" in 23-year-old Hopper, Wright's son from her marriage to Sean Penn.

According to Page Six, the pair then spent the holidays, ahem, unchaperoned in Tahoe City, California. The outlet suggests their relationship could span back as far as the spring, given that both Wright and Giraudet attended Cannes Film Festival in association with his company, YSL.

More: Robin Wright Gives One TMI Detail About Her Sex Life with Ben Foster

If Wright did manage to discreetly wed her soccer-loving boyfriend, it will be her third time (almost fourth) down the proverbial aisle. The Golden Globe award-winning actress was married to retired soap opera star Dane Witherspoon from 1986 to 1988 and to actor Sean Penn from 1996 to 2010. The latter have two children together, daughter Dylan and son Hopper. Wright was last linked to X-Men's Ben Foster, whom she was engaged to before breaking it off in August 2015.

One thing's certain, though. If the marriage rumors are true, Wright and Giraudet couldn't have picked a better place to debut their newlywed status than the City of Love.

Exercising for People Who Hate Exercise

Real talk: When you finally get up after the second (or third) hit of your snooze button and see a good morning text from your friend who has already finished a spin class, you can’t help but roll your eyes. It’s not that you’re not impressed with them — it’s that you haven’t found a way to convince yourself to work out consistently.

Or to be clear: You simply hate, hate, #hate working out.

While some researchers suggest it’s determined in our genes, most fitness professionals agree your ability to maintain an exercise routine — no matter how much you dislike burpees, push-ups, running and whatnot — is completely in your hands.

More: 5 Stretches to Help You Start Mastering the Splits

Whether you believe us or not, take it from these experts who gave us their best advice for those who want to overcome their fitness hatred to lead healthier lifestyles.

Make a mental commitment

More so than making it through a mile of running without resting and lasting through an entire yoga sequence, fitness expert Michele Gordon says your attitude toward fitness is everything. That’s why she recommends starting your new workout routine by making a commitment. You can begin small and work your way up from there, focusing on manageable shifts and swaps that help to form a habit.

“Everyday you should seek out physical activities that make you feel good — such as walking the stairs instead of taking the elevator, stretching in the morning or prioritizing workouts in your schedule,” she explains. “View exercise has something that fuels you, something that benefits you, something that benefits your whole life and those around you. Find workouts you either enjoy doing or enjoy how you'll feel after and stick to it.”

Commit to working out in the a.m.

We all prefer a lazy Sunday over a 5 a.m. sprinting class, but cofounder of Orangetheory Ellen Latham stresses the importance of squeezing in a workout first thing in the morning.

“The early morning classes are the busiest because people stay more committed when they complete their workout early. Planning to exercise later in the day can be tough, as there is a higher chance of finding an excuse not to go, especially after a long, tiring day at work,” she shares.

More7 Yoga Poses for When You're Too Tired to Work Out

While it’s likely you’ll dread the sound of your iPhone’s early morning beep, within a month, it might become a habit you actually enjoy.

Complete a challenge

For most people who are attempting to bite the bullet and actually use that gym they pay for every month, the very act of walking through the front door can be overwhelming. Without a personal trainer or hands-on instruction, figuring out machines, moves and rhythm becomes yet another hurdle that extinguishes your fire.

Fitness expert and coach Nadia Murdock recommends signing up for a social or app challenge that will help you create the groove you need to persist. This type of tactic is impactful whether you’re giving fitness a chance for the first time or you’re getting back on the bandwagon.

“For beginners, there are online workout plans with simple moves like squats, planks and push-ups. This offers an achievable task that will hopefully turn into a regular habit,” she explains. “For those that have worked out in the past but just need to get back on track, there are more elaborate challenges that include full workouts for all fitness levels.”

Work out at home

It’s not that you detest working out. It’s that it requires a ton of energy: signing up for a class, packing a bag, commuting, showering and still managing to pick up Starbucks on your way into the office. Whew.

Gordon says the preplanning is often a big enough excuse to dissuade people from making it to a class or to their trusty treadmill, making an at-home workout more appropriate for fitness-haters. “You can get classes and trainers on demand and live-stream with all sorts of platforms these days. There are options for even a 20-minute workout, giving you zero excuses not to sweat,” she says.

Try a partner sport or join a team

Especially when you’re playing wingwoman at the bars or venturing through an unfamiliar new city, there’s strength in numbers. The same goes for fitness according to personal trainer and entrepreneur Eraldo Maglara. Since working out solo might not be fun for you, roping more pals into your cause could be the secret strategy that makes a difference in your mindset. He suggests looking for intramural teams within your community or choosing sports that require another person — like tennis, badminton or squash — which make it more likely you'll show up. How come? Other folks are counting on you — and hey, it’s more fun!

Take your workout outdoors

Can’t imagine completing a military-style boot camp but love the feeling you get when you reach the top of a mountain? Apart from the Instagram-worthy selfie opportunities, Gordon says many people who traditionally dislike fitness are inspired by activities that, well, don’t feel like working out. Instead, they feel like adventuring.

More: Top Wilderness Survival Tips From an Indoor Kid

“Find a trail or hiking group near you, get outdoors and move. Exercising outdoors has been associated with greater feelings of increased energy and revitalization and decreased tension and depression,” she explains.

No matter what gets you moving, try one of these tactics to live your longest — and yep, sweatiest — life. After all, there’s only so much Netflix you can binge.

8 American Idol Scandals You Probably Forgot About

0

The reboot of American Idol is here, whether America is ready for it or not! As a singing competition show, Idol has developed major musical artists like Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood. It also brought forth some major scandals in the 15 seasons the show aired on Fox.

More: E! Reaches Verdict on Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Ryan Seacrest

With the big return to ABC a little less than two years after it left the airwaves, the show is kicking off with a sticky situation involving host Ryan Seacrest. Even though the issue doesn’t involve his job at Idol, the sexual harassment allegations from his former stylist at E! carried over to the Oscars red carpet recently. Will it also stain the relaunch of Idol?

NBC Universal has publicly stated that an independent investigation cleared Seacrest due to "insufficient evidence to substantiate [the] allegations," but that may not matter in the court of public opinion. While we wait for this story to play out, let’s take a look back at some of the scandals from the early days of American Idol.

1. Corey Clark claimed he had an affair with Paula Abdul

Corey Clarke Paula Abdul affair

Corey Clarke Paula Abdul affair

Clark, a contestant on Season 2 of American Idol, disclosed his allegations about the affair two years after he left the show — but, interestingly, that isn't the only salacious detail relating to this infamous contestant. In fact, he was disqualified from the show for failing to disclose that he had several arrests on charges including the battery of four police officers and his sister, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.

In May 2005, Clark appeared on Primetime Live to give his account of his illicit three-month-long affair with Abdul while he was a contestant on the show. Fox had an independent counsel investigate Clark’s claims, which were not backed by any witnesses.

Abdul did admit to offering him career advice, but she never fully addressed the affair rumors. Abdul did not lose her position on the show, and Clark is now an Uber driver in Los Angeles.

2. Too professional for Idol

In Season 8, contestant Joanna Pacitti's participation in the Top 36 Round raised a few eyebrows because she already had a professional recording contract with Geffen Records. Idol was supposed to be an amateur competition.

"It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition," Fox said in a statement to Billboard. There were further rumors that Pacitti was already associated with several staffers at 19 Entertainment, Idol's production company, which further hurt her cause.

3. Voting controversies

Kris Allen Idol

Kris Allen Idol

Almost every season had a voting issue, but nothing was as big as "TextGate," during the Season 8 finals between Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Idol's sponsor, AT&T, provided free phones to text and call for Allen in his home state of Arkansas. At the party, company employees showed fans ways to power-vote for Allen, who wasn't expected to win but did. One fan even admitted to voting for Allen 10,840 times in the final round.

Lambert fans felt the contest was rigged in favor of the more conservative Allen. Fox denied any wrongdoing and said that it was "absolutely certain that the results of this competition are fair, accurate and verified."

4. Nicki Minaj versus Mariah Carey

Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey Idol

Everyone knew that the addition of Nicki Minaj to the panel after Mariah Carey had already been hired for Season 12 was a ticking time bomb. Right away, TMZ had grainy footage of Minaj bickering with Carey, while Keith Urban was stuck in the middle and Randy Jackson stood up to stop the madness.

The diva versus diva moments continued all throughout the season, and not surprisingly, both women left the show after one season.

5. Mario Vasquez quits

Mario Vasquez Idol

Mario Vasquez Idol

In Season 4, Mario Vasquez made it to the Top 12 and then quit for a "personal, family thing" that his mother knew nothing about when Fox contacted her. Vasquez then said his exit was for artistic reasons.

“This decision I was contemplating throughout the whole competition," he said on Live with Regis and Kelly in 2005. "It was a hard decision on my part. American Idol was wonderful with me. Personally, I felt like the competition wasn’t right for me."

In 2007, Vasquez was accused of sexual harassment and sued by Magdaleno Olmos, an employee of Fremantle Media, which produced Idol. He claimed that Vasquez was forced to quit the show after producers learned about the incident. The case was sent to arbitration.

6. Phillip Phillips sues 19 Entertainment

In January 2015, Phillip Phillips, who won Season 11 in 2012, filed a petition with the California Labor Commissioner because he felt “manipulated” into accepting jobs that benefited 19 Entertainment and Idol’s sponsors rather than his own career.

"I am very grateful for the opportunities provided to me through appearing on American Idol," he said to The Hollywood Reporter. "The value that the fans and the show have given to my career is not lost on me. However, I have not felt that I have been free to conduct my career in a way that I am comfortable with.”

The dispute was eventually settled in June 2017.

7. Frenchie Davis' scandalous photos

During Season 2, the talented Frenchie Davis was forced to exit the show because topless photos of her turned up on an adult website. It was a huge scandal at the time, especially since Davis was considered a frontrunner on the show.

"I was up front about it from the beginning. I wanted to be honest because I would never compromise my integrity to be successful, ever, because that’s not true success," Davis said.

She later competed on Season 1 of The Voice, where she reached the Top 8.

8. Brittany Kerr's affair

Even though Brittany Kerr's affair with married country singer Jason Aldean happened after her time on Idol, her name was associated with the show throughout the entire scandal. It was TMZ who caught the two of them making out and outed them to the public in September 2012.

"The actions I portrayed recently were not a representation of my true character," she said in a statement. "But a lapse in judgment on my part."

Of course, that isn't the end of the story. Aldean divorced his first wife in 2013 and married Kerr in 2015. She gave birth to their son, Memphis, in 2017.

Much to the dismay of fans, troubling allegations rocked the Stranger Things world this weekend. And on Sunday, Matt and Ross Duffer — the show's creators and presumed men of power — responded with a statement.

"We think it is important not to mischaracterize our set, where we believe strongly in treating everyone fairly regardless of gender, orientation, race, religion, or anything else. We remain totally committed to providing a safe and collaborative working environment for everyone on our productions."

The claims (and alleged "mischaracterization") the Duffer Brothers are referring to stem from a lengthy Instagram post by Peyton Brown, who was previously part of the series' camera department. In the post, Brown explained that she would not be returning for the filming of Season 3 of Stranger Things due to the aforementioned abuse.

Stranger Things Abuse

"I personally witnessed two men in high positions of power on that set seek out and verbally abuse multiple women," she wrote. "I promised myself that if I were ever in a situation to say something that I would. I have 11.5 thousand followers who can hear me say this, TIME IS UP. Women in the film industry are POWERFUL. We will rise and we will scream from mountain tops in support of each other and I will not contribute my time, efforts, and talent to such abusive people. There is too much going on in this world to be regressive."

Brown went on to point out that there are many men in power who do not abuse it, and those were the type of people creating the type of projects she would pursue.

Following her allegations, Brown received a wave of backlash — mostly accusing her of lying. However, two more former crew members have come forward. Lori Grabowski, the show's script supervisor for almost two seasons, explained she hadn't intended to come forward until she saw how unfairly Brown was being treated.

"I am one of those women Peyton referenced. It was very real not only to me, but other women on the set that also want to share their story. Peyton Brown witnessed not only my experience, but the similar experiences of others," Grabowski wrote.

Laura Petralia, the show's property assistant from 2016 to 2017, also came forward. Although her account is now private, Brown shared a post from Petralia that began, "I also stand behind Peyton Brown because I was also one of the women who had to experience this first hand on the set of Stranger Things."

Although these posts don't detail what the alleged verbal abuse entailed, a previous version of Brown's post reportedly elaborated in the comments, "There was yelling, there were insults, there were threats, and people were even fired or forced to quit because of them."

According to Variety, a spokesperson for Netflix said the network "found no wrongdoing" upon looking into the allegations. Stranger Things is slated to return for Season 3 sometime in 2019.

Tori Spelling & Jennie Garth Could Be Headed Back to TV Together

What woes? Tori Spelling could be headed back to TV — with none other than her former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star and longtime friend Jennie Garth. Even better? The duo are joining forces for a TV show loosely based on the OG series, according to People.

Of course, the news that a show is in the brainstorming or even production phase doesn’t necessarily mean the pilot will get picked up. Currently, Spelling and Garth’s project is “in development” with CBS. But given that the women visited the CBS Studio Center Lot on Friday, signs point to there being significant interest on the network’s part.

Little is known about the premise of the pilot at this point. However, it sounds to be somewhat satirical, with the pair portraying exaggerated versions of themselves. Perhaps the move will prove to be a step in the right direction for Spelling, who has been mired in drama lately.

On March 9, police were called to Spelling’s home for the second time in less than a week. A police spokesperson has said, “The only information I have is that we received a call to check the wellbeing of Tori Spelling yesterday [Wednesday] in Thousand Oaks. The call was received from her husband. Deputies contacted her briefly and determined she was fine.”

Days earlier, police responded to a call of a domestic dispute between Spelling and her husband, Dean McDermott. Sources told Us Weekly that they feared for Spelling’s health following what they deemed a “mental breakdown.”

A source reportedly downplayed that idea to People, though, pointing out instead that it can’t be easy for Spelling to juggle five small children at home. “The last year has been really tough on Tori,” the source said. “She has a ton of pressure and stress, with the kids, work and her marriage. The 44-year-old — who is mother to Stella, 9, Hattie, 6, Liam, 10, Finn, 5, and Beau, 1 — clearly has a lot on her plate.

Hopefully tackling this new series won’t add to her seemingly overwhelming stress level. Fans would certainly love to see Spelling get back on her feet again, especially if it means the actress finding a healthy work-life balance. Not to mention, who wouldn't enjoy having Donna and Kelly back on our screens?

Tim McGraw Collapsed On-Stage During a Weekend Concert

The unofficial king of country music, Tim McGraw, has been out of the headlines for a hot minute but that's only because he's been busy taking over the world with his wife, Faith Hill, on their joint world tour. Unfortunately, that's about to change as McGraw is now front and center in the news after he reportedly collapsed at his Dublin concert over the weekend. From the sounds of it, this unexpected incident was shocking to the crowd and left Hill leading the concert in a song after explaining what happened.

According to Us Weekly, McGraw collapsed while he was performing his song "Humble & Kind" at the Country to Country music festival. It's unclear at what point during the concert this collapse happened, but when it did, McGraw was dutifully rushed off stage and taken backstage to be cared for. Later, Hill came on stage and spoke to the crowd about why McGraw had collapsed before singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" with the entire audience.

The reason for McGraw's collapse was explained by Hill as a case of serious dehydration. "Tim is fine," she explained to the audience. "We’ve all been a little bit dehydrated traveling so much. He’s been super dehydrated, and I apologize but I made the decision that he cannot come back out on the stage. So drink water, people, keep yourself hydrated."

A rep for McGraw backed up what Hill told the Dublin crowd, that dehydration was the culprit for McGraw's collapse. "Tim McGraw was suffering from dehydration in Dublin this evening at the C2C show," the rep stated to Rolling Stone. "He was attended to by local medical staff on-site and will be fine. He and Faith thank everyone for their love and support and look forward to seeing their Irish fans again soon."

It appeared to be business as usual ahead of the concert, with Hill and McGraw posting Instagrams and tweets of the UK leg of the tour and appearing to be in good spirits. The pair performed in London and Glasgow previous to their Dublin show, which only seems to confirm Hill's statement that the intensity of the couple's performance schedule could have left McGraw completely exhausted.

There's only a little bit of fan reaction on social media at the time of reporting, with a couple folks expressing concern at McGraw's collapse. There's no doubt, though, as this story develops and McGraw gets back on stage that we'll hear more from him and Hill about this scary incident.

What to Do If You Get Sick While Traveling

0
0

You’ve finally saved up your vacation days and have the trip of a lifetime planned. You’ve researched the best places to eat, the can’t-miss sights and have crafted the perfect hashtag so your friends and family can follow along on your adventures. You have your passport, have boarded your dog and have someone picking up your mail. You’ve thought of everything — or so you thought.

According to the National Travel and Tourism Office, 2016 saw an 8 percent increase in American travelers internationally. Most trips go off without a hitch, but we’re humans. Our bodies can only take so many sneezes on a flight before our immune system takes a hit and we find ourselves spending our hard-earned vacation days staring at the ceiling of a hotel bathroom.

You need a doctor, stat.

Most people plan for all aspects of a trip except for what to do if you get sick, have an accident or need to cut your trip short. Here are a few tips on how to prepare for the unexpected, from your business trip to Columbus, Ohio, to your honeymoon in Bali.

“The most important thing you can do when preparing for any trip is to purchase travel insurance,” recommends Scott Masciarelli, director of talent and airline partnerships for Connoisseur Travel. “Many people think that you only need insurance if you are going abroad, but travel insurance can be applied [to] any type of trip and can easily be purchased either through your travel agent if you are working with one — or you can do it yourself with companies like AIG Travel Guard or Travelex.”

More: What Every Woman Needs to Pack for Spring Break

With travel insurance, you can customize your coverage, from including lost bags to hospitalization to flying home earlier than planned. The insurance company will assist with any arrangements that need to be made and will help you find the right doctor or hospital in whatever city or country you are in. Additionally, with travel insurance, any out-of-pocket expenses you may incur will most likely be refunded to you — just make sure to keep all paperwork.

Oh, but my credit card has travel insurance on it — I’m covered

Don’t be so sure.

“I recommend calling your credit card company prior to your trip to see just what they cover,” says Masciarelli. Many credit cards will cover you if your trip is delayed or canceled or if your baggage is lost somewhere along the way, but most do not include health insurance, leaving you holding the bill should you need medical assistance, and that can add up quickly.

Let’s say you need to be airlifted off a mountain in Colorado. Your credit card company will most likely not reimburse any of those charges, but travel insurance will. Additionally, if you must cut your trip short because of a medical issue, your credit card company might not be able to help you out at all.

MoreUnique Wellness Retreats That Go Beyond R&R

Oh, but I have health insurance — I’m covered

Sorry — not so fast.

Your medical coverage may just be for the state you reside in, so if you live in New York, and you get hurt in California, you might not be covered.

“Again, I recommend calling your insurance company before you travel,” says Masciarelli. “Ask them specifically about the city that you are traveling to, not just a generic 'Am I covered out of state?'”

He also recommends asking what is covered. A trip to the emergency room might fall under their coverage, but a surgery might not. If you are traveling abroad, there’s a very good chance your health insurance will not be able to help you at all unless it is specifically outlined in your policy.

The bottom line: No one wants to think about what could happen on a dream vacation, but if you are prepared for the unexpected, it makes the zip lines, the airplane jumps and the snorkel expeditions even more memorable.

Lindsey Vonn Reflects on Her Final Olympics & Women Who Inspire Her

Lindsey Vonn knows what it is to face adversity. Despite a torrent of injuries that put her skiing career in jeopardy over the years (including a knee injury that left her unable to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi), Vonn took home the bronze medal in alpine skiing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang last month.

In an exclusive interview with SheKnows, Vonn reflected on her ability to bounce back no matter the odds and prove that women are just as strong as men.

SheKnows: Over the eight years you trained and fought to get back to the Olympics after your injury, how did you keep yourself going?

Lindsey Vonn: I tried to keep a positive outlook and to stay determined and focused on my goals. It can be difficult when you face injury or other major challenges, but keeping your goal in mind and pushing yourself to never give up in order to achieve that goal is really what keeps me going.

SK: You’ve said this will likely be your last Olympics. What emotions were you experiencing during that final downhill race?

LV: I was incredibly emotional during my final race for so many reasons, but mostly because I was racing for my grandpa. I wanted to perform my best and close out my Olympic journey on a high note for him.

SK: What’s it really like living at the Olympic Village? Any fun stories or facts that you can share?

LV: I haven’t stayed in the Olympic Village since 2002, when I was 17. There’s definitely always a lot going on there with all athletes from all different sports. The time I did spend there was cool because it’s really the only place you all come together outside of a competition, but this time around, I stayed elsewhere. I have my dog Lucy with me, who recently starred in a Bounty commercial with me. She’s the best traveling companion and keeps me focused in between all of the craziness.

SK: Conversations around gender inequality and movements like Time's Up and #MeToo continue to dominate the news cycle. What changes have you seen in attitudes towards women in sports since you began your career?

LV: I don’t think I’ve experienced as much inequality as a lot of other athletes have faced, which I’m thankful for, but I do see the trend of female empowerment around the world beyond sport, and I think that’s a really positive and much-needed change.

SK: What is a stereotype or misconception about female athletes that you wish you could change?

LV: That we’re not as tough or strong as the guys — that’s simply not true!

SK: What’s the biggest lesson you’ll take away from your incredible Olympic career?

LV: Anything is possible as long as you give it your best and never give up. That’s really what the Olympics are all about.

SK: March is Women’s History Month. Who are some of the women that have most inspired you in your career or in your life generally?

LV: In sport, I definitely look up to Billie Jean King and Serena Williams. They’ve both revolutionized sport for women in so many different ways and have truly exemplified what it means to be strong, competitive females.

Why I'm Busting Myths About Black Fathers

0
0

As black kids, many of us grew up watching and loving Sanford & Son’s Fred G. Sanford, The Cosby Show’s Cliff Huxtable, Good Times’ James Evans, Family Matters’ Carl Winslow, The Jeffersons’ George Jefferson, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s Uncle Phil and even My Wife and Kids’ Michael Kyle (well, some of us loved Michael Kyle). We'd see them on the small screen doing what they had to in order to provide for their families — whether that was selling junk or delivering babies, policing the streets of Chicago or doing... whatever it was that James Evans did for a living. And we’d see them dish out lessons, mostly through tough love, week in and week out.

Those characters were heroes to me; they were also the only positive depictions of black males raising kids many of us got to see. And yes, some represented a certain old-school take on what it means to be a father. Others, as time went on, showed more of an evolution of fatherhood — including loving, caring dads who weren't just the breadwinners and behind-whippers.

More: The Importance of Father-Daughter Relationships

Some of us black kids, myself included, were blessed to have heroes much like — or better than — those TV dads in our own homes every day throughout our childhoods. Because my own dad was there for me, I can look back on that now — as a father myself — and incorporate his lessons into my own parenting (that along with a lot of Cliff Huxtable and a little James Evans). But many weren’t so lucky. Far too many black kids I know had only TV characters to model any kind of blueprint for positive, present, supportive fatherhood.

It wasn’t until my ex-wife and I decided to call it quits that I really began to think about this. It dawned on me that many of us black dads were gleaning everything we knew about raising children from two sources: our own old-school dads (if they were at all present in our lives) with their often antiquated modes of parenting and the images we’d seen on TV while growing up. It hit me how archaic much of our thinking in this country is in regard to fatherhood in general and black fatherhood in particular. For many — most? — of us, those TV characters did not accurately depict the realities of being a black dad today.

I started to broaden my outlook. I knew there were good, realistic role-model black dads out there, and I decided I wanted to bring us together in some meaningful way.

I first began working with fathers at my job in a public school. I brought dads together after school to discuss fatherhood and to work on various projects with and for their children. This started me on the path toward working not only to change perceptions and to bust myths about black fathers, but also to help change lives and to strengthen households.

Matt Prestbury Black Fathers family

As a black father of four, I have a firsthand understanding of the stereotypes and myths that exist about people like me — that we're slackers, behind-whippers, not present in our kids' lives, that kind of thing. So I decided it was time to flip those myths upside down and craft a new narrative around black fatherhood in the world today. Thus began my Facebook group, Black Fathers, which I built primarily to bring dedicated dads together to support each other and shatter the stereotypes we face every day.

Honestly, at the time, I never imagined this community would become what it is today: a place where we seek advice, where we relay so much deeply personal information about our family situations, where we are not judged, where we are so supportive in sharing information and connecting other fathers to resources. We help each other prepare for custody and child-support hearings. We help each other prepare to talk to our children about sex, bullying, college readiness, handling police stops and much more. We connect each other to individuals and organizations outside the group that provide assistance, and we encourage each other daily.

I started out simply asking black dads to post images and videos of themselves with their kids — or to share what they liked to do with their children. I wanted to show the world we exist. That was and still is my mantra. We exist to show that dedicated, engaged, involved and loving black men who have raised or are working to raise their children do exist here in reality and not just on TV. We aren’t just characters in sitcoms. We aren’t mythical creatures. The color of our skin does not define us, nor does it disable us. And it surely doesn’t diminish our worth in our children’s lives.

More: How to Teach Your Kids (& Yourself) About Black History Month

This group, this community, this brotherhood helps us show one another we are more than what anybody may want to limit us to. And we prove that by being here for one another — and by spreading our message of positivity and support well beyond the group itself — we are heroes to our children in the same way that James Evans and Cliff Huxtable and even Michael Kyle were heroes to us. And we are brothers to one another.

"He was repeatedly stabbed and lost more than four pints of blood," she wrote. "A policeman was patrolling close by and administered first aid until the ambulance arrived. The deepest wound just missed severing his spine. By some miracle, no vital organs were damaged. We are praying that these animals are caught before they maim, or even kill, someone else. These are sad days."

Miles may not even be the attackers' only victim. Police told Us Weekly that last week, two 21-year-olds were victims of knife attacks in South London. One victim has already been discharged from the hospital, while the other is still receiving care, though police said "his condition is described as not life-threatening or life-changing."

Beyoncé & Jay-Z Are Ready to Take All Your Money for Their New Tour

Updated March 12, 2018, 8:15 a.m. PT: Beyhive, it's official! After Ticketmaster pretty much gave it up with a landing page glitch, Beyoncé just took to Instagram to confirm she and Jay-Z are kicking off the On the Run II tour across Europe and North America this spring.

Beyonce announces OTR II tour

Beyonce announces OTR II tour

In a video compilation of moments from their lives and their 2014 tour together, Bey announced that ticket presale will start March 14, while general sales will begin March 19. This is bound to sell out everywhere it goes, so get ready to move quickly, fam.

Original story, published March 5, 2018:  It's been four long years since Beyoncé and Jay-Z toured together, and for good reason. They've been busy doing things like having to twins and dropping surprise groundbreaking albums. You know, just casual things that couples do. But fans know they are long overdue for some marital/musical collaboration, and rumors are starting to fly saying the end of the Jay-oncé tour dry spell is on the horizon.

"They will tour together starting this summer," an insider told People. "They are incredibly excited. It took a lot of work to make this happen. It’s the best choice for their family."

The source also explained that this summer tour will be a true family affair — that all the Carter kids — 6-year-old Blue Ivy and 8-month-old twins Rumi and Sir — will come along for the ride.

"They will all travel together and have a fun family adventure," the source added.

Of course, this isn't fully confirmed. A rep for Beyoncé didn't respond to People's request for comment. But if this is true, her silence isn't surprising; obviously Bey and Jay would have some epic announcement planned for something as huge as another joint tour, especially considering it would be their first time performing on a tour together since their On The Run tour in 2014.

Just last week, rumors started flying about their planned joint tour when some folks discovered a landing page within Ticketmaster U.K.'s site titled, "Beyoncé & Jay Z tickets." That page has since been deleted, but on the internet, nothing ever really dies. Screenshots have been circulating since then, with rumors ramping up to include a Beyoncé and Jay-Z collaboration album. Please let it be true. These two are too good not to combine their talents.

Cauliflower Flour Is Here to Make Your Low-Carb Dreams Come True

Have you been Caulipower-deflowered yet? The cleverly named brand made foodies and low-carbers weak in the knees with its cauliflower crusts and veggie-packed ready-made pizzas. Now, Caulipower has become the heartthrob of health-conscious cooks everywhere with the debut of Cauli-Flour. Yup, Caulipower wins the race to create the first-ever vegetable-based flour, and as Delish pointed out, you can snag some on Amazon starting today.

Caulipower Cauli-Flour original mix, $7.99 at Amazon

Don't mistake this magic foodstuff for grated cauliflower rice that some folks like to put in baked goods. Cauli-Flour is the same consistency as regular flour. And all you math-challenged cooks will love this selling point: You can totally substitute it cup for cup with any other flour in any recipe. For reals. How amazing is that?

More: Weight Watchers Is Launching Blue Apron-Style Food Kits

There are two versions. The original is available now, but a paleo version will be launching in April. Both flours are completely gluten-free and list cauliflower as the No. 1 ingredient. The original Cauli-Flour contains rice flour, quinoa flour and cane sugar as well. The paleo will have tapioca, arrowroot and almond flours. We bet you're curious about the stats so we'll get right to it: How does 320 calories, 8 grams of fiber, and 60 grams of carbs (in the original) sound? Just for reference, a regular cup of all-purpose white flour has 455 calories, only 3 grams of fiber and (ouch) 95 grams of carbs.

So what can you do with it? That's the point: anything. Cauliflower-based breakfast treats like waffles and pancakes and bagels and muffins, dessert treats like brownies and cookies and pie. You can sneak vegetables into your children's treats! That's gold. Still not convinced? Well, the company kind of expected that. On the front of each package, there's reassurance for you doubters: "Yep. We're serious." The company also wants you to know they've got Cauli-Flour recipes waiting on their site for you to get you started: "breaded" chicken and paleo brownies among others.

Oh yes, friends. Heed the siren call of the bulbous cauliflower. It's time to become a Cauli-Flour child.

Oh, my goodness. Yes, they are rich and famous and we can't seem to get away from them, but sometimes, the Kardashian-Jenner posse serves up a social media post that really hits us in the feels — like Kylie Jenner's Sunday Instagram photos. Stormi (born Feb. 1) and her great-grandma bonding is such a sweet sight. The little gal is wrapped in a snuggly blanket and sucking on a pacifier — but also kind of working the camera like a pro. Meanwhile, great-grandma M.J. is beaming.

Jenner also included a second pic featuring Stormi's perfectly teensy hand clasping her great-grandmother's thumb. Please don't tell us this is secretly an ad for a new line of Jenner nail polishes. We don't want to know. Let us have this.

“I mean... does it get any better than this?” Jenner captioned the post. No, ma'am, it doesn't. Four generations who — despite squabbles — seem to genuinely love each other? That's pretty cool stuff no matter what your last name happens to be.

Stormi hasn't yet ventured far into the world with mama Kylie Jenner. A source talked to People recently and admitted Jenner is "very protective of Stormi and of introducing her to new people and the outside world." Not a surprise — we've seen the lengths to which rabid paparazzi will go to get shots of the Kardashians and Jenners. That has to be a pretty daunting prospect for a new mom. Fortunately, Jenner has her older sisters, who know the ropes of parenting in the limelight.

“Kim and Kourtney have especially been helping out, along with Kris. Kylie knows they’ve all been through the ringer with their own kids and newborns and wants what’s best for her and Stormi." the source said.

We think the best thing for Jenner and Stormi is definitely more cuddles with great-grandma. Snuggle on, M.J.
