Every celeb you love will be on Hollywood Game Night

0

Game shows are a reality-lineup staple, and here's a new one to chew on: celebrities you love, playing games with drunken nobodies.

Sean Hayes at NBC upfronts

That Sean Hayes must have one heck of a Rolodex. Or whatever app he uses as a Rolodex, that is: He's lined up an incredible bunch of celeb pals to host his new NBC game show, Hollywood Game Night.

You ready for a good list? Amy Poehler, Matthew Perry, Jason Bateman, Kristin Bell and fiancé Dax Shephard, Maya Rudolph, Fred Armisen, Minnie Driver, Kal Penn, Martin Short, The Office's Ellie Kemper, Kristen Chenoweth, Cheryl Hines, Molly Shannon and Ugly Betty's Max Greenfield.

Plus it's hosted by Jane Lynch.

NBC has ordered 8 episodes of the show, which will feature celebrities playing games with non-celeb contestants in a "cocktail party atmosphere," NBC told Deadline. "Stress 'cocktail party atmosphere' because they made a point of mentioning that twice in the Deadline exclusive about the story," cracked Lainey Gossip.

Reunion alert! NBC bringing Just Jack to Smash>>

So everyone's drinkin'! And playing… what? Go Fish? Pictionary? Charades? Oh, let it be charades. Would you not kill to watch a tipsy Amy Poehler trying to act out the title of Baby Mama?

Hayes is a bit of a powerhouse there at the Peacock, with his clever little producer paws in such projects as the fairytale drama Grimm. He's also pulling double duty as an actor on NBC's Smash.

Dang, Hayes, when do you sleep?

Nyuk! Three Stooges trailer premieres>>

Hollywood Game Night is a continuation of a real-life event Hayes has thrown several times with production partner Todd Milliner, Sean & Todd’s Celebrity Game Nights. Many of the Hollywood Game Night celebs also participated in the Celebrity Game Nights.

Lainey Gossip has just one question: "Does this mean that we’re one step closer to my dream of reviving Battle of the Network Stars?" she wonders. "It’s like the Emmys and the Olympics AT THE SAME TIME."

Younger readers: It was a '70s thing. And it was awesome.

Depressed woman

If you suffer from depression, there’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Millions of Americans suffer from depression each year. Luckily, there is hope, and there are some natural ways to start feeling better.

Start smiling

According to All About Depression, depression affects 19 million Americans each year. About 25 percent of women and 12 percent of men will become clinically depressed at some point in their lives. That’s pretty alarming — but there are ways to treat it.

Besides prescription drugs, natural ways to help prevent and cure depression exist. We spoke with holistic pharmacist and natural health author Sherry Torkos about the best ways to cure depression naturally.

Dietary recommendations by Sherry Torkos

A healthy diet helps balance mood. Eat small, frequent meals with quality protein, healthy fats and nutrient-dense, low-glycemic carbohydrates to maintain good energy and mood. Find some specific recommendations below.

Foods to include:

Salmon and salad

  • Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds are good sources of vitamins and minerals, which may be depleted in people with depression.
  • Cold-water fish provide omega-3 fatty acids, which support brain health. Vegetarian sources of omega-3s include chia seed, flaxseed and nuts.
  • Turkey and salmon contain the amino acid tryptophan, which elevates serotonin production.

Foods to avoid:

  • Sugar, soft drinks and refined carbohydrates can cause blood sugar fluctuations and trigger mood swings and irritability. Caffeine may also trigger mood swings and anxiety in some people; however, some recent research suggests it may play a protective role against depression. The antioxidants in coffee may protect the brain against free-radical damage.
  • Processed and fast foods often contain chemicals and preservatives that may upset brain chemistry.
  • Alcohol is a nervous system depressant and should be minimized or avoided completely, especially by those taking medication.

Lifestyle suggestions by Sherry Torkos

If you suffer from depression, it’s important to take a close look at your lifestyle and discover ways you can improve it. She suggests:

  • Woman doing yoga stretchAcupuncture. Studies have found it beneficial in combatting depression. It may work by stimulating
    the production of neurotransmitters.
  • Counseling. Therapy with a psychologist or psychiatrist can be very beneficial. Some research has found cognitive therapy as effective as drug therapy.
  • Exercise. Research has shown that exercise produces powerful benefits for relieving depression and stress, and improving mood, well-being and sleep. Aim for 30 minutes to one hour of activity daily — walking, cycling, swimming, yoga or any activity you enjoy.
  • Massage and reflexology. Both help relieve stress and tension, and promote relaxation.
  • Adequate sleep. Quality sleep is essential for mental and physical health.

Supplemental support

  • Fish oil supplementsFish oil. It's rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for the nervous system and support
neurotransmitter function. Levels may be depleted in those with depression; studies show it can help combat depression, especially for those who are not finding getting adequate relief with antidepressant drugs.
  • Suntheanine. A patented form of the amino acid L-theanine. Studies show it reduces stress and anxiety without causing drowsiness or addiction, and also improves sleep quality. It works quickly to promote calming , and is well tolerated.
  • S-adenosylmethionine . Supports the production of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, improves communication between nerve cells and is an antioxidant, which protects brain tissues against damage from free radicals. Numerous studies demonstrate benefits for improving depression, with results comparable to conventional antidepressants. SAMe is well tolerated, has positive side effects and has a quick onset of action . Not recommended for those with bipolar disorder , as it can worsen the manic symptoms.
  • Vitamin D. A deficiency has been reported in many people with depression, and several studies have shown supplements improve mood.

Signs of child abuse and neglect

Abused little girl

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. To help all the children who are being abused in our communities, we need to take a closer look at the common indicators and signs of abuse and neglect.

Beyond bruises

Beyond obvious signs of physical abuse, you should be aware of other indicators that may signal the presence of child abuse or neglect.

Behavioral changes

Sudden changes in behavior or school performance may be signs of abuse or neglect. Behavior changes vary from being overly compliant to being completely withdrawn to acting unusually watchful or worried. Learning problems and difficulty focusing on schoolwork that cannot be attributed to other causes can also be signs of abuse and neglect.

Additionally, if a child suddenly wants to come early and stay late at school or extracurricular activities, creating reasons not to go home, it may be indicative of a problem. Of course, we must keep in mind a number of other things can cause changes in behavior, as well — from lack of sleep or poor diet and from bullying to learning issues.

Signs of physical abuse

We all know that accidents and falls happen, but unexplained bruises, broken bones, burns and other injuries, particularly after an absence from school, can be indicative of physical abuse. If the child seems frightened of the parent or shrinks when approached by adults, this can be a red flag. When a parent or caregiver gives conflicting or unconvincing explanations of a child's injury or refers to the child in an extremely negative manner, there may be a legitimate cause for concern.

Signs of neglect

Neglect may be unintentional, as in cases when a family doesn't have the money to feed the child, provide sufficient clothing or offer proper medical care. Neglect may also occur when a parent is abusing alcohol or drugs, or doesn't have the mental capacity to care for their children properly. Neglected children are frequently absent from school, often dirty and sometimes steal food and money. These kids are sometimes anti-social but also can be very emotionally needy and clingy.

Signs of emotional abuse or maltreatment

If a child shows extreme behaviors — overly compliant, demanding, passive or aggressive — he/she may be dealing with maltreatment by parents or other family members. If the parent often blames or berates the child, this could be an emotionally abusive situation, as well.

Signs of sexual abuse

Sudden changes in behavior — as well as unusual or sophisticated sexual knowledge — may be signs a child is being sexual abused by a parent, caregiver, older child or other adult. Developmental regression, repetitious behavior, change in sleeping habits, unfounded fears, unprovoked aggression and sexually acting out can also be signs that a young child has been the victim of sexual abuse. The abuser's behavior may also tip you off that something is wrong. The suspected abuser may try to humiliate or isolate the child, or he/she may act jealous and controlling.

Deciding to report abuse or neglect can be a difficult decision for many people, but it shouldn't be. Making one phone call can save a child's life. It's not your job to investigate first — that's the job of child protective services and law enforcement. If you have good reason to suspect a child is being abused or neglected, contact your local CPS office or police station. Most states offer a toll-free hotline for reporting anonymously. If you are mistaken, then your report will be investigated and ruled out.

You can also get assistance from Childhelp, a national organization that provides referral services, help for those in crisis and more. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline number is easy to remember: 1-800-4-A-CHILD . This hotline is open 24 hours a day and staffed with professional crisis counselors who can offer emergency assistance, social services referrals and other support resources. Also visit childwelfare.gov for more information about preventing and reporting child abuse and neglect, along with tips for strengthening families, promoting well-being and protecting kids.

True Blood Season 6 sneak peek!

Two months and counting until True Blood is back and badder than ever!

True Blood Season 6 PromoTrue Blood's Season 5 finale was a bloody mess!

  • Sam killed Roslyn
  • Jason got to kill some vampires
  • Bill killed Salome

And then, he killed himself. He drank the Lilith blood and melted into some kind of puddle of bloody goop. However, he suddenly re-formed into a bloody mess of a, well, Bill/Lilith-crossover. So... what's next? What's in store for Season 6? Based on HBO's first promo, it looks like it picks up right where it left off.

HBO announces True Blood air date >>

Take a look

That's a whole lot of naked, bloody Bill and we approve. Now that he's apparently some sort of vampiric god, he's destined prove himself as an absolutely treacherous foe. It doesn't look like Bill will be the only obstacle this season, however. Last season we saw a major Pam/Tara breakthrough when they kissed. So, what's happened now to make Tara fend off a nasty slap from Pam? We also see Eric Northman dressed up as a detective while his voice-over proclaims, "If the humans want war, we'll give them war." In other words, it looks like Season 6 might be a mess as well, but it'll also be bloody good.

Blade Runner star to appear on True Blood Season 6>>

6 questions for Season 6 of True Blood:

  1. Who will die next?
  2. What will happen to those four faerie babies?
  3. Will Tara ever be happy?
  4. With the addition of another boy toy, who will Sookie Stackhouse end up with?
  5. Just how awful of a foe will Bill/Lilith turn out to be?
  6. How many more seasons of True can we expect?

The only way we'll find out the answers is if we tune in for True Blood Season 6, which premiers on June 16 at 9/8c on HBO. Drink it all in.

No spoilers!

What are you dying to see in True Blood Season 6? Readers: Please don't ruin it.

It's one of those days when you are still full from a big lunch, and it's already time for dinner. Maybe you're a little hungry, but not starving, so something on the light side is a must. This is a perfect time to have yourself a roasted veggie and melted Brie slider on a toasted pretzel roll.

Roasted Veggie and Brie Sliders

Roasted veggies are super tasty just by themselves. But when you add melted Brie cheese and a pretzel roll that is toasted in butter with a touch of garlic, you have an ultra delish slider on your hands. So delish as a matter of fact, that you will likely have seconds. This tasty roasted veggie slider is light but also filling, and a great "meatless Monday" recipe you can have any day of the week.

Roasted veggies and Brie on a pretzel roll recipe

Serves 2

Ingredients:

For the roasted veggies:

  • 1/2 eggplant, peeled and sliced in 1-inch thick pieces
  • 1 medium-size zucchini, sliced lengthwise in 1/2-inch thick pieces
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, cut lengthwise into quarters
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, cut lengthwise into quarters
  • 1/2 onion, peeled and sliced in 1-inch thick pieces

  • 5 dashes ground black pepper
  • 4 dashes salt

  • 4 small pretzel rolls, cut in half lengthwise
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 dashes garlic powder
  • 12 slices Brie cheese

Directions:

For the roasted veggies:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a medium size bowl, add the veggies.
  3. Drizzle the olive oil over the veggies and mix them together so that all sides of the veggies are coated in the oil.
  4. Add the veggies to a cookie sheet and spread them out so each one is laying flat.
  5. Add the salt and pepper to the veggies.
  6. Bake in the oven until the veggies are roasted .

For the sliders:

  1. As the veggies are cooking, melt the butter in a medium-size skillet.
  2. Sprinkle the garlic powder in the melted butter and lay the pretzel rolls in the skillet flat side down.
  3. Let the pretzel rolls cook until the flat side of the roll is toasted.
  4. As soon as the veggies come out of the oven lay them on the bottom side of the pretzel roll.
  5. Then top with the slices of Brie cheese. The cheese should melt from the warmth of the veggies.
  6. Add the top side of the pretzel roll and serve while warm.

Late-night hosts react to Fallon's Tonight Show promotion

Yesterday's announcement that Jimmy Fallon is taking over the hosting helm on venerable The Tonight Show has all the hosts weighing in on the decision.

Jimmy Fallon at a museum gala

Jimmy Fallon has a brand-new job: Host of The Tonight Show, taking over for Jay Leno. And all the hosts have something to say about it.

"Congratulations Jimmy," Leno said in a statement. "I hope you’re as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you’re the old guy. If you need me, I’ll be at the garage."

Tinkering with his gazillion classic cars, huh?

Leno also talked to the New York Times, contrasting this changeover to the infamous 2009 ouster thanks to Conan O'Brien.

If Jimmy Fallon's out, will Seth Meyers tackle Late Night?>>

"The main difference between this and the other time is I'm part of the process. The last time the decision was made without me. I came into work one day and — you're out," Leno told the Times. "This time there really aren’t any complications like there were the last time. This time it feels right."

Speaking of Conan O'Brien, who has been conspicuously silent on the matter of The Tonight Show on his own TBS talk show, Wednesday night he spoke up, saying that Fallon is "the perfect guy" to replace Leno.

"I want to congratulate Jimmy, that is a really fun gig," O’Brien said as the audience laughed knowingly. "It is!"

"It’s a fun gig and you know what? Jimmy is the perfect guy to do it; he’s going to do a fantastic job," O'Brien continued sincerely. "So congratulations, Jimmy."

Jimmy Fallon jokes about Tonight Show takeover>>

Dave Letterman wasn't as positive.

"This happened once before with Conan O’Brien, and then they had to bring Jay back, and so he had to start his show all over again, and now it looks like the same thing is happening. And I just — I don’t get this,"Entertainment Weekly quotes the host as saying during his Wednesday night monologue. "Didn't we just go through this?"

Letterman had words for NBC as well: "What’s the matter with these guys? You know, honestly, what are they thinking?"

Fallon himself released a statement claiming, "I'm really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow." And in his monologue on his own Late Night, he affirmed for the crowd that he was excited to take over The Tonight Show next February, but "Until February, our focus is right here on whatever this show is called."

VIDEO: Blake Shelton disses co-host Luke Bryan

Blake Shelton’s new bromance with ACM co-host Luke Bryan could be on the outs, if Blake has anything to say about it.

The two country hotties sat down to talk about the ins and outs of co-hosting the ACM Awards. While Luke Bryan showed off his 10-gallon grin, Blake Shelton seemed a little less thrilled about his partner in crime.

“In a co-hosting situation, you need somebody to pivot off of… that you can count on, which is why this year, I feel like I really got screwed over,” Shelton said.

Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan: a co-host match made in heaven?>>

Shelton went on to explain that he felt the requirements for finding a co-host were lacking.

“The ACM just looks for whoever’s getting the hottest country airplay at the moment. Nobody researches can this guy read? Can he memorize? Any background checks?”

“I sent in my SAT score in,” Bryan replied, in his cute Georgia drawl.

Awards we'd love to see at the 2013 ACM Awards>>

The guys lament that hosting takes a lot of preparation. They have to write all of the jokes themselves, which is no easy task.

“Luke and I have been writing the script for the show for the last 10 minutes or so and I think we got it where we want it,” Shelton said.

While they weren’t about to give any of their jokes away, Shelton did say most of the jokes would rely heavily on country music stereotypes; like how they all have relationships with their cousins.

The dry sarcasm and the all-in-good-fun ribbing makes both of these guys even more lovable.

Get to know some of this year's ACM Awards nominees>>

Not only are they co-hosts, they are also nominated against each other in two different categories: Male Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. Shelton is taking it all in stride.

“I can really say that if I don’t win, I really hope that Luke doesn’t win also,” he said.

With two of the most charming guys in country music co-hosting this year’s ACM Awards, all we can say is that we all win, Blake. We all win.

You can be sure we’ll be watching this bromance blossom as the Academy of Country Music Awards air live on CBS on Sunday, April 7.

Natural swaps for unhealthy lunches

0
0
From fresh fruit to organic snacks and foods free of artificial dyes — a look at common lunch box staples and foods you can swap to pack healthier choices!

Reinvent PB & J

PB & bananas

With a few substitutions, you can pack this classic lunch box staple without guilt! Reinvent your PB & J with healthier options:

  • Instead of the white variety or bread packed with corn syrup, try whole grain, whole wheat bread or English muffins.
  • While organic preserves are great, nothing beats fresh fruit. Line your sandwich with fresh berries or bananas. Swirl some honey on top for a little kick of natural sweetness.
  • Try peanut butter alternatives. Almond butter is loaded with nutrients and packed with protein. One tablespoon of almond butter actually has as much protein as a serving of meat! Apple butter is lower in fat, calories and salt, compared to nut butters. Justin’s makes really fun, spreadable butters — like all-natural chocolate hazelnut butter — that you can pack in your kid’s lunch so they can build their own sandwich, or even spread it on fresh apples.

Swap out processed fruit snacks

Fruit snacks

When it comes to snack foods, sometimes you need a translator to interpret the label. Many popular packaged fruit snacks are loaded with sugar, artificial food coloring and processed sweeteners. While whole fruit is always your best bet and should definitely be a daily lunch box staple, there are also some packaged options that you can sprinkle in as a swap for processed fruit snacks:

  • Whole strawberries are a great healthy lunch box snack-swap because they're naturally sweet, low in calories — only 50 calories per cup — and are full of heart-healthy nutrients.
  • Organic yogurt squeezes are convenient to pack and contain no high-fructose corn syrup, fake flavors or artificial colors.
  • Toaster pastries that are made with organic ingredients, real fruit and whole grains are a great substitute for processed fruit snacks or cookies.

Sneak in veggies

Peppers and hummus

When it comes to getting veggies in your little one’s lunch bag, sometimes you need to get creative… even downright sneaky. Go beyond a leaf of lettuce with these ideas:

  • Instead of carrot or celery sticks, try slicing sweet peppers and serving them with a side of dunk-worthy hummus. Add a few pretzel crisps so they can make crunchy sweet pepper sandwiches.
  • Sandwich stash: Stash baby spinach in between slices of cheese and turkey.
  • Peel and dice cucumbers, then serve them with crumbled feta cheese.

Substitute juice boxes

Healthy drinks

Just like fresh fruit, it’s always better to go natural with drinks and pack plenty of water. If you’re going to pack juice or flavored drinks, these tips might help:

  • Read labels carefully. While many popular juice boxes tout things like 100-percent vitamin C, what you might not see is they actually have very little juice. Make sure you grab drinks made from 100-percent fruit juice.
  • Look for organic drink options since they typically have less sugar than juice boxes, no high-fructose corn syrup, or artificial colors or flavors. Try Honest Tea’s lunch box-worthy drinks, like their organic versions of fruit punch or lemonade.

Jimmy Fallon will take over the helm of NBC’s late-night dynasty the Tonight Show from Leno in 2014. But how much do we really know about Jimmy Fallon, other than that he’s hilarious? Settle in for a few Jimmy Fallon fun facts.

Drew Barrymore Jimmy FallonBesties with Drew Barrymore

Jimmy Fallon’s friendship with the eternally darling Drew Barrymore isn’t a secret, but as it turns out, Drew is actually a business partner and friend of Jimmy’s producer wife, Nancy Juvonen. Together Nancy and Drew have worked on Charlie’s Angels, Never Been Kissed, 50 First Dates and Fever Pitch, to name a few. Recently Jimmy had Drew on his current show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the two used makeup from Drew’s new Flower Beauty line to give each other a makeover.

Grammy comedy

We already knew that Jimmy delivers killer comedy from watching him on Saturday Night Live . Then he graced us with his Late Night presence and hilarious nightly antics like an on-camera water fight with Tom Cruise. But did you know he was nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Comedy Album: The Bathroom Wall, Jimmy Fallon in 2003?

Jimmy Fallon talks about Tonight Show takeover>>

Jimmy Fallon

Has a condition named after him

If you watched Jimmy on SNL, one of the things you likely remember most is how he had a hard time keeping a straight face. Whether he was playing The Leather Man or watching Will Ferrell rock a cowbell in a shirt two sizes too small for him, he became known for breaking character. So legendary is Jimmy for this that breaking character is now called “Jimmy Falloning.”

Predestined for late-night

Not only did Jimmy Fallon want to be on Saturday Night Live when he was a boy, he was also voted in school as most likely to replace David Letterman! Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy! His classmates weren’t too far off. Jimmy has guest-hosted for David Letterman and now, as we all know, he's taking over for Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.

“It’s all about those geometric shapes, the bold colors, that real mod inspired period,” she told SheKnows. “Also, we have new silhouettes this season. It’s about buying those pieces that have the shorter lengths. It’s also about wearing the shift as opposed to the sheath, that is more body conscious. The shift is just a little more casual and has a little bit more of the ease and that mod vibe.”

For men, Janie says it’s all about the plaid: “I am addicted to plaid. so I find a plaid sports coat [is] always sexy.”

The line’s face, Coco Rocha, says she is a huge fan of the show and agrees that the Mad Men men’s fashion is very hot. Who doesn't want a little Don Draper in their life?

“Something about it is very sharp looking,” she told us. “I always look at my husband, and I’m like, ‘Why can’t we get you in something spiffy like that?’ And now we can!”

On herself, Coco likes the same red-and-blue print shirt dress we were eyeing. “I am all about all the little dresses,” said Rocha. “What I love about them is that I can wear them in the day, and then dress it up for the night. Put on some more makeup, play with my hair, change your shoes and you have a new wardrobe.”

Banana Republic's Mad Men collection

Although some women may shy away from going head to toe mod, Coco says she likes to glam up the look with full '60s hair and makeup… meaning teased, poufy updos and smoky cat eyes.

“If you are wearing the '60s look, some people say, dress it down so you don’t look like you’re a character,” said Coco.  “I say, dress it up. I want full hair, makeup, fake lashes. If you’re going to wear it, just make sure it’s loud and proud.”

To get your own Mad Men look, head over to Banana Republic for all of Janie’s fabulous frocks! And be sure to tune in to the season 6 premiere on April 6.

Girls' Christopher Abbott abruptly leaves show

Staring at delicious Christopher Abbott was the perfect balance to also watching Lena Dunham parade around naked. If Chris is out, are viewers out, too?

Christopher Abbott leaves GirlsGirls recently started production on their third season, but it looks like things aren't off to such a great start. The hottest guy on set is no longer there.

Christopher Abbott, who played Marnie's boyfriend Charlie, has left the show. This isn't just a nasty rumor either, ladies. His rep released the following statement:

"[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow] and the entire Girls cast and crew, but right now he's working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show."

A different Girls' star talks about drugs & LiLo>>

Sadness! Charlie was, without a doubt, one of the few redeeming qualities about the show. During the first season, viewers watched as Charlie dealt with each of the girls' self-centeredness. Despite dating one of the main characters, Marnie , Charlie had a bit of an outsider's view because he was a guy and he was less self-involved. He was also seriously adorable.

After a nasty breakup with Marnie, Season 2 showed Charlie coming into his own. He developed a successful phone app and turned his heartache into profit. Major profit. So, of course Marnie showed up, again, suddenly realizing he was what she wanted all along. Season 2 ended with Charlie and Marnie in a state of coupled bliss. It was a place we thought we'd visit again in Season 3, but apparently not.

An open letter to Lena Dunham>>

The men of Girls have, from the very beginning, been one of the major reasons Girls was so good. Nothing is more entertaining than watching a guy figure out what the hell his girlfriend and her friends are talking, crying or obsessing about. While we love Ray and Adam , it was Charlie/Christopher Abbott who sealed the deal. He was the first one to break away from the toxicity. He was also probably the most fun to look at.

That leaves us to wonder: Will we still tune in to Girls even without the depth, sarcasm and hotness that Abbott brought to the show?

The 41-year-old rapper-turned-reggae-singer and the 20-year-old pop star have decided to team up on not just one, but two, songs. One for each of their albums.

Miley Cyrus

You could say that Snoop Lion and Miley Cyrus came from completely different backgrounds, but they've both found themselves in the same music industry, and decided to collaborate together on a new song.

Miley Cyrus twerking video: Watch the "onezie" wonder>>

According to the New York Daily News, the song, “Ashtrays and Heartaches” is “music magic.”

"I did a song with Snoop, and it's coming out very, very soon," Cyrus previously told Ryan Seacrest. "I can finally say I'm going to have a song with Snoop Dogg coming very soon. It's recorded, done. I'm so excited!"

While Snoop fans may think the pairing is a weird one, it looks like Cyrus can keep up with the reggae singer.

Snoop Lion's new album has a message, but does he have conviction?>>

“On ‘Ashtrays and Heartbreaks,’ Snoop combines his newfound Rasta style with Cyrus' pop sound but the actress shows she can get in on the reggae vibe of the jam, too, especially on lines like ‘fill up all those ashtrays,’" MTV explained.

Cyrus also said the first single on her own album will feature Snoop Lion as well. She's been working on the album for a while , and says it’s been a labor of love.

"I want this record to be different and a bunch of passion projects," she said, according to the NY Daily News. "I've been able to do these things where I've just been in the studio at the right time and these projects have just magically come."

It looks like the two sparked an unlikely friendship from the collaborations. Cyrus told Ryan Seacrest she was excited to see the rapper-turned-reggae singer again.

"He was in Europe when he was recording, but he's here this weekend, so I'm pretty excited,” she said. “I'm think I'm going to take a bunch of my friends and go hang out."

Throw the "Rules" out the window

There are a lot of style rules out there, especially ones that apply specifically to plus-size women. Who made them, and why do we follow them? It's time to throw the style rulebook out the window.

Plus size makeup myths

I find myself very lucky that while growing up, I didn't encounter too many style "rules" related to my size. It wasn’t until I worked retail at a popular plus store that I ran into plus-size women who told me all sorts of crazy "rules” they followed, such as "I can’t go sleeveless" or "I can’t wear skirts." The ones most surprising to me were the makeup and hairstyle rules.

In the midst of my research to find and disprove these myths, I found several pages that claimed to be "pro-plus-sized women," but only served to limit a woman’s style and further instill insecurities. One article started, "If you think fat and beautiful do not go well with each other, think again. To be beautiful, you need not be size zero... The truth is that plus-size women have all the right curves and a beautiful voluptuous body."

Not a bad start. However, this article went on to tell women that they shouldn’t wear a liquid foundation, bold eye makeup or neutral lip color as it will only draw attention to their flaws. Other "tips" were ones that all women should follow when wearing makeup, regardless of size. For example: Match your foundation and blend.

The real rules

I met with Jessica Frieling, photographer, makeup artist and stylist, to discuss these myths and get some makeup tips to help contour my face. She had never heard the "no liquid foundation" rule and grew up wearing liquid foundation, and she scoffed at the "no garish eye makeup" rule. In fact, she did a photoshoot with rainbow eye makeup.

1

Start with a good base

Liz Schluter Makeup Step 1

Jessica applied concealer and a liquid foundation on my skin after applying a primer on my clean and moisturized skin with a latex-free sponge. She went back with the concealer on a pencil-shaped brush to cover any blemishes, and finished with a powder to set the makeup .

  • Concealer tips: Use a shade lighter than your foundation. Apply with a brush or your fingers and blend toward the edges. Apply around your lips, just above the bow, to make your lips look fuller.
  • Foundation tips: Apply with a sponge . Apply in a stippling motion for even coverage.
How to pick a shade? Go into a store and try several different shades and brands. Ask a store associate for help or bring a friend. Even professionals ask for help.
2

Contour

Liz Schluter Makeup Step 2

Pick a bronzer with little to no shimmer. Try MAC Bronzing Powder in bronze.

Apply with a brush to the hollows of your cheeks . Apply from your hairline in the hollow about 2 inches, and stop about where your jaw hinges. It’s important to not take the powder too far. Blend the powder into your hairline, applying darker closer to your hairline. Also, apply the bronzer lightly to your temples and along your jawline, where you would naturally have shadows.

Experiment with color, shimmer and liners. Don’t forget mascara. Use a light shadow to highlight under your eyebrows and the inner corners of your eyes.

Tip: Fill in eyebrows. Sparse or light eyebrows can age you. When you were a child, you probably had dark and full eyebrows. NYX Push-Up Bra For Your Eyebrows is dual-sided and has a highlighter on the other side.
4

Finish the look

Liz Schluter Makeup Done

  • Clean up foundation with sponge.
  • Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks then sweep into your hairline. Try Bella Bamba by Benefit.
  • Finally, apply a bronzer/darker blush powder, as a bronzer this time. Consider Honour by MAC, and provide warmth to areas where the sun would normally hit you, like your forehead, nose, chin and cheekbones.
  • Finish lips with a natural color for day — Jessica used Rosewood by Prestige— and top with a gloss in a taupe/pink shade. Apply gloss to the middle of lips. If you want a bold lip, check out Lime Crime Velvetines in red velvet!

This is a lot to do on a daily basis, and it took a bit longer than my normal 10-minute face, even with a professional doing it. But it was so worth it for a special event. Use the tips and tricks from above that suit you, and implement them into your daily routine. Take the extra minute to add contour. This could be applied over your foundation, then add some mascara and lip gloss, and be out the door.

Spring cleaning and charitable deductions

It’s that time of year again — spring cleaning! Throw open your windows, shake off the cobwebs and let in some fresh air. How to get the most value

It’s that time of year again — spring cleaning! Throw open your windows, shake off the cobwebs and let in some fresh air.

Along with scrubbing down the walls and cleaning away some questionable goo in the mudroom, you’ll probably be tossing out a few things — those items that are too small, too ill-fitting or simply out of date.

Rather than put your old stuff out to the curb , consider donating it to charity. You can do some good and save a few dollars come tax time. Teaching your children about charity at a young age is a great idea too. So get them involved in donating used toys, clothes and other household goods.

Here are a few tips for getting the most value out of your non-cash contributions:

Do a little investigative reporting

The Internal Revenue Service only allows deductions for donations made to qualified charitable organizations. You can confirm the tax exempt status of most charitable organizations on the IRS website; keep in mind that some organizations, like churches, may not be listed so ask the organization for documentation if you’re not sure. You can also check out the credentials — including ratings — of a potential donee/charitable organization before you make a donation using a service like Charity Navigator.

Get a receipt

A lot of folks believe that you have to only keep records if you donate something that’s valuable — but that’s not true. You have to be able to produce a record for all contributions regardless of the amount. The amount and type of property, however, determines how detailed the receipt or record must be. For any contribution of noncash property, regardless of the value, you must get and keep a receipt from the charitable organization showing:

  • The name and address of the charitable organization,
  • The date and location of the charitable contribution, and
  • A reasonably detailed description of the property.

If the organization doesn’t offer you a receipt, ask for one. In most cases, the charitable organization is happy to provide you with a letter or receipt. If you can’t get a letter or receipt because it’s impossible , you should keep sufficient records on your own to substantiate your deduction.

Keep records

You’ll also need to keep a record that explains the value of the property as of the date of contribution and the condition, along with an explanation of the basis .

If the donation is valued at more than $250 but less than $500, you’ll need to provide a written acknowledgment from the charitable organization that clearly states the description of the property, whether the qualified organization gave you any goods or services as a result of your contribution , along with a description and good faith estimate of the value of any goods or services received. That includes the “complimentary” tote bag, magazine subscription or coffee mug offered to you in exchange for your gift.

If the donation is valued at more than $500 but less than $5,000, you’ll have to provide the same acknowledgment and keep the same records as above but you’ll have to provide more details, including how you got the property ; the date you originally obtained the property and the basis of the property. You’ll report this information on a federal form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions.

If the donation is valued at more than $5,000, you’ll have to include all of the information listed above as well as a qualified written appraisal of the donated property. As above, you’ll report the information on a federal form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions.

To figure whether your donations meet those thresholds, add up all of the value of similar items during the year. So, for example, if you donate two used cars worth $3,000 each, that puts you over the $5,000 threshold.

Calculate the value of your donation

To determine the actual value of the donations, the IRS generally accepts fair market value. Fair market value is the price that a willing buyer would pay for the item.

For most household items, including furniture and appliances, as well as clothing, the fair market value is not the purchase price.

"Nobody is paying you close to $50 for a pair of used Levi’s, no matter how good they fit."

Let’s face it: Nobody is paying you close to $50 for a pair of used Levi’s, no matter how good they fit. Most of the time, you’ll want to value these items at the “thrift shop cost” or what you’d pay for them if you bought them in the present condition. You should keep documentation to support these values since they’re subjective: Detailed descriptions, photos or original sales receipts can be good evidence.

For more expensive items, like used cars, you can use pricing guides to determine values. Kelley Blue Book, for example, is an industry standard and offers a great start for figuring value. If, however, the values are above $5,000 for donated items, you’ll want to get a written appraisal.

For artwork and other valuables, you generally deduct the fair market value of the items. However, the value of artwork or other valuables that you create is limited to the cost to create the items and not the fair market value. This is true even if you make and sell such items professionally.

Special rules apply to other items such as those considered collectibles, capital assets or those items that were used in your business. Don’t try and wing it: Be sure to consult with a tax professional for more information about how to report these items.

Make sure that the items can be used by the organization

In addition to creating a problem for a charitable organization by donating something that can’t easily be used, your donation may be limited. The value of donated property which has an unrelated use is generally limited to your basis in the item as opposed to the fair market value.

Timing is everything

You deduct your contributions in the year you actually make them, no matter what form of accounting you might use. Contributions made in 2013, for example, will be deducted on your tax year 2013 return, due in 2014.

Pushy fan ruins Jonah Hill's big date

Poor Jonah Hill. He was trying to romance a date when a fan butted in and ruined everything.

Jonah Hill at the Golden Globes

Here's one way to put the kibosh on a budding love affair: Jonah Hill was having dinner at New York's Joe's Shanghai with a hot mama when a fan butted in and spoiled all his moves.

A man at the next table noticed the star and leaned over for a discussion, reports the New York Post.

He told Jonah: "I buried my dad today and I just want to say you're gonna be one of the greats," the Post reports.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill party hard in Australia>>

Um, HUH?

These two thoughts need a transition between them, right?

Poor flummoxed Hill replied, "Well, that's horrible."

"The guy just goes, 'No, it's fine, it's just great to meet you," the Post quotes a spy.

He then turned his back as Hill "repeated his condolences."

Aw, man! Talk about a buzzkill! Sorry about your dad, fella, but wow.

Selena Gomez buys Jonah Hill's home>>

Hill must have been particularly bummed about the encounter, because, the spy told the Post, he was trying "really hard to woo" his mystery brunette.

Hill was spotted leaving a Tribeca gym where he'd worked out with his personal trainer on April 1. Perez Hilton said he looked "exhausted" and like he "could barely walk." You go, Jonah Hill.

Hill's last high-profile project, buddy/alien movie The Watch, floundered at the box office, but his next big project, This Is the End, is getting some attention. It has an interesting setup: A group of friends, including a whole bunch of celebrities like Emma Watson, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill, are at a party at James Franco's house when the apocalypse happens.

The Flaming Lips and Ke$ha team up for new album

The Flaming Lips and Ke$ha worked together on a 2012 song. But the band likes the singer so much, they have reportedly decided to do an entire album with her.

Wayne Coyne

After working together on a song for the Flaming Lips’ 2012 album, the band and singer Ke$ha have decided to release a full-length album together. Flaming Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne answered fan questions on Reddit on Wednesday, and was asked what he thought of working with the singer.

Ke$ha had the best day of her life making her new album>>

"She is a blast on all levels,” Coyne answered. “She's funny, she's humble. She's bada**. She's everything. She's awesome. We're actually already working on an album with her. It's called Lip$ha."

The musicians first collaborated together on the band's 2012 album The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. Ke$ha’s track on the album was "2012 ,” but each song on the album included a collaboration of some sort.

Steve Jobs getting a musical tribute from the Flaming Lips>>

The band is also releasing a new album The Terror on April 16, but it’s not the upbeat record some of their past records were. One fan on Reddit asked why they would put the “pretty bleak and hopeless album” out in the spring.

"I think it's also a record about acceptance,” Coyne answered. “When the world expects you to be all sunshine, you want to express feelings that are the opposite so that others can share what you're feeling. You want what you're going through to be expressed and shared. It's even more useful when you're not just happy that the sun's coming out. You can be happy in the beginning of the day, sad in the middle, and happy in the end of the day."

The Grammy-winning band has been around for three decades and keeps going strong to this day. For Coyne, their legacy is something to think about, and a fan asked him what they want to be remembered for in the end.

Heidi Klum: Witnesses took pictures, didn't help drowning son

The incredibly tacky fellow beachgoers who witnessed Heidi Klum rushing to the aid of her 7-year-old son and nannies in Oahu just shot pictures instead of doing anything to help.

Heidi Klum and her kids on a beach

Good Samaritans they're not.

The New York Daily News published dramatic photos taken today of heroic Heidi Klum in the midst of saving son Henry and family nannies. The photos are great — but they were taken by witnesses who stood and snapped pictures instead of doing anything to aid the struggling supermodel.

"The family was surprised that we were being photographed and no one would come help us," she told People.

Heidi Klum joins America's Got Talent >>

Now why would you want to actually help another human being who's trying to save people from drowning when you can take pictures on your cell phone and sell them to illustrate stories about Heidi Klum's beach body?

The model and reality show star told People that she "did what any mother would do" and waded in to help when her son and family nannies were caught in a sudden and dangerous riptide.

The photos show her in the water grasping her son's wrist, then straining to pull one of the nannies out of the water.

Heidi Klum wants crazy sex with an old guy>>

Meanwhile, bodyguard Martin Kirsten was photographed on all fours, trying to get his breath back after the incident.

The charming photographer even sold a photo of Klum's right nipple peeking out of her bikini top as she runs back up the beach, her face strained.

Now that's class.

Klum was downplaying the incident Monday when she returned back home to Los Angeles.

"These photos taken recently look much worse than it really was," she told People.
