Lucky Charms Is Adding a Brand-New Marshmallow

Lucky Charms has always been something of a unicorn of the cereal industry — and now they will be so quite literally.

This week, General Mills announced a permanent marshmallow is being added to Lucky Charms starting this month, and it will be a (drum roll, please)... unicorn!

The white unicorn will have purple and blue highlights and will join the other permanent marshmallow family members, such as the heart, star, horseshoe, clover, moon and balloon marshmallows. The hourglass was retired earlier this month and will no longer appear in your box of Lucky Charms.

To be fair, we feel like this is a definite upgrade. Who wouldn’t choose a unicorn over an hourglass? That’s probably how this unicorn came to be, actually — this is the first marshmallow that was actually chosen directly by fans. Lucky Charms reached out to fans via Instagram and Twitter, asking, “If you could pick the #NextLuckyCharm, what would it be? Use an emoji to tell us!” — and while there were lots of ideas, the unicorn came out in first place.

We’re not surprised. They are pretty magical.

“Our goal is to not only create a cereal that families and cereal fans will love and enjoy, but to inspire magical possibilities and help spark imagination and fun no matter what the age,” Josh DeWitt, marketing manager of Lucky Charms, said in the statement announcing the addition of the new marshmallow. “That’s why, after 10 years, we decided to introduce a new charm with the help of the keepers of magic themselves — kids. They spoke, and after hearing their love for the magical unicorn, we listened.

We’re pretty excited to try a bowl!

5 Parenting Secrets We Can Learn From the Swedes

$

If you gobble up French parenting tips about how to get your petit bébé to eat their haricots — or if you've fully outfitted your home in Danish hygge style, you’re going to want to hear this. It’s time to turn your attention to another European country where parents are getting major props lately: Sweden.

I recently finished reading There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather by Swedish-born author Linda Åkeson McGurk, and it was a real eye-opener regarding the the many ways we American parents are coddling our kids (largely indoors) these days. Here’s the gist: McGurk moved to Indiana from Sweden, got married, had two young girls. But she started to notice her kids' childhoods were starkly different from the one she herself experienced while growing up in small-town Sweden. Mainly, McGurk found that so many American parents and schools alike saw kids going outdoors to play as a “liability” — in fact, she noticed the playgrounds and parks in her Indiana community would sit empty for much of the year.

Fed up after being told her girls weren't allowed to swim in a creek in a public park (because, again, liability), McGurk swore there had to be a better way. So she packed up and moved the whole fam back to Sweden. There, her children spend hours each day outdoors for unstructured play no matter the weather. And the difference she's noticed in their mood and behavior is like night and day.

Are you ready to sign your kids up for the Swedish life? Here are some more secrets from McGurk and the Swedes about the Scandinavian way of parenting.

More: Things Don't Have to Be "Kid-Friendly" to Be Kid-Friendly

Kids thrive off fresh air

Swedish babies start napping outdoors shortly after they are born — yes, even in freezing winter temps. Parents there swear the practice helps prevent diseases and is healthier than breathing indoor ("stale") air. While you might not want to leave your baby napping outside stateside (you could technically get arrested for that) there’s an important lesson to learn here: The benefits of fresh air are real. Kids who spend more hours outside per day have fewer sick days, are more aware of their senses and even have better attention spans and less anxiety and depression. Instead of cutting recess in favor of more academic time, Swedish teachers believe fresh air is crucial — and integrate it into part of every school day.

There’s no such thing as bad weather — only bad clothing

As they grow, Swedish kids bundle up and play outside year-round, even when it is raining or snowing. And it's really not a big deal, McGurk insists. Because (no surprise here) kids actually love splashing in puddles, sledding and making snow angels. It’s usually the adults who have trouble adjusting to the idea of sending their littles outdoors when the weather is wailing and gross. But the next time the forecast looks dreary, McGurk recommends simply putting on another underlayer (or a raincoat and Wellies) and heading outside with your kids, even if it is just for 10 minutes to start. You’ll likely notice a real difference in kiddo's mood — and even your own — for the rest of the day. Note: This doesn’t apply to every scenario. Obviously, if there's a tornado, keep your kids inside.

Kids can be independent learners

Yep, there’s more than just nature and fresh air in a Swedish parent’s toolbox. One surprise for McGurk when she moved back to Sweden was that young kids there weren’t pressured to read and write before age 3. Instead, they are encouraged to spend their time exploring and coming to each new skill on their own. That way, they develop more of a passion — and hopefully become lifelong learners. The same goes for sports; instead of being pushed into athletics by their parents, Swedish kids are encouraged to explore and try different things on their own time. Eventually, they just might find something they love.

Confident kids who take risks come from parents who don’t hover

You won’t find many helicopter parents in Sweden. That’s because the Swedes believe in “freedom with responsibility” — allowing their kids to get out and play and explore on their own for hours at a time. Kids in Sweden wander the yard alone and often go to parks and around town under the supervision of older kids. Of course, living in a country with virtually zero crime rate makes this a lot easier to get on board with. Does it sound impossible where you live? Well, American parents can still encourage kids to play independently, even if they are supervised, stresses McGurk. For example, try not to immediately interfere the next time a conflict or challenge arises between your child and a friend. Letting the kids figure things out for themselves could work wonders for their confidence.

Gender roles are meaningless

You probably already knew that Scandinavia is big on equality. And as it turns out, gender-neutral parenting starts from birth. Some doctors in Sweden won’t even tell new parents the gender of their baby until he or she is born — none of that heavily color-coded, heteronormative baby shower nonsense. Later, there are gender-neutral preschools where teachers don’t use gender-specific pronouns like “him” or “her.” In Sweden, Boy and Girl Scout troops are merged into one; girls are encouraged just as much as boys to get outside and learn about nature — and, of course, to get dirty. Often, kids just leave their dirty clothes in the garage or get hosed off before coming back into the house. Everyone has a good time, and there’s absolutely no fuss.

More:  What Exactly Is Gender-Neutral Parenting?

Most of the secrets of Swedish parenting aren't all that revolutionary. In fact, the idea of playing outside for hours and being able to take risks without adults constantly interfering might even remind you of your own childhood. Sure, the world has changed a lot since then. But the moral of the story: Don’t be afraid to let your little ones take the lead on when, where and how they want to play and learn. And for crying out loud, let them go out in the rain and snow. Just be sure to bundle them up first.

Chevy Chase Was in a Very Strange Road-Rage Car Chase IRL

Well, this might be the most Chevy Chase thing ever to happen. The actor was reportedly involved in a road-rage-driven car chase that ended with him getting kicked. Not hit, but kicked. Go figure.

According to TMZ, which cites an NYPD police report, Chase alleges he was driving in New York earlier this month when he was cut off by another driver. Chase told police he thought the truck hit his car, so he flashed his lights and gave chase. Whether the truck was a Chevy is unclear, but how funny would that be? (Get it? Chevy Chase? Chasing a Chevy? I'm here all week, folks.)

Eventually, the driver of the truck pulled over, and Chase said he saw neither vehicle was damaged, but still approached the driver's side window "to speak to him about his reckless driving." He says one of the passengers in the truck flipped him off.

Stephanie from Full House saying,

This is where the two parties' stories start to differ. According to what Chase told police, he said to the driver of the truck, "If I were a lot younger I’d bust your nose," and then someone in the truck kicked him in the shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground. The driver of the truck told police Chase threw a punch and the kick was in self-defense, intended to block his fist. Either way, TMZ reports that police charged the kicker with second-degree harassment with physical content.

In possibly the best part of this entire police report, there was a statement from a third-party witness to the scuffle, who told police he pulled over because he didn't want to see Chase "get his ass stomped." Fair enough.

Are Carrie Underwood & Mike Fisher Headed For a Split?

The rumor mill just never leaves celebrities alone, even if there's nothing about them to talk about. By all evidence, Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher have a rock-solid relationship. Yet, they've been plagued lately by rumors that they're on the rocks. Luckily, they seem to have no problem weathering the rumors or shutting them down.

More: Carrie Underwood's Husband Made a Big Announcement

Earlier this week, Fisher posted a pretty innocuous shot to Instagram. It showed a sunset over a lake, with a Bible verse inscribed over the photo, reading, "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting." Fisher captioned the post, "One of my new favorite verses because I need this reminder daily!"

But some of his followers seemed to take that as some kind of admission that there actually is trouble between him and Underwood. I guess I can kind of see how someone could arrive at that conclusion, but really, there's still no evidence of any trouble in paradise. And Fisher was quick to respond to the follower to point that out and set the record straight.

The comment read, "Praying for you and Carrie. Ignore the media! Hold tight to each other. There are always bumps in the road. Keep focusing on Jesus! He will guide you thru!"

Fisher's reply read simply, "That's not media. We've never been better. Thanks."

Good for him for shutting that down quickly. And all signs point to Fisher's comment being true. Since he announced his return to the NHL for the upcoming season, Underwood has gushed her support on social media. They seem happy, and as far from a breakup as can be.

7 Things You Never Knew About Emily Blunt

$

From what I can tell, it feels like Emily Blunt is, much like the famous character of Mary Poppins she'll soon be seen playing on the big screen, practically perfect in every way. OK, yes, I know she's a human who likely has flaws, but after watching her appear equal parts tough, whip-smart, warm, wry and engaging in a multitude of roles and in interviews for the last 10-plus years (since she appeared in the hit film The Devil Wears Prada), I'm having a tough time finding the flaws.

And while I don't actively go looking for the flaws in someone's personality, what I do like to look for in my spare time, especially when it concerns an actor I'm low-key besotted with (that means you, Blunt!), is little-known facts or anecdotes so I can get a better sense of what that actor is like off-screen.

More: John Krasinski Is in Total Awe of His Wife, Emily Blunt, & It's So Sweet

So, on the occasion of Blunt's 35th birthday, I thought it might be fun to take a look at some of what I found. Here are my favorite tidbits.

1. Stanley Tucci is her brother-in-law

Her Devil Wears Prada costar, the illustrious Stanley Tucci, is now Blunt's brother-in-law. Tucci married Blunt's sister, Felicity, in 2012. The pair reportedly met in 2010 at Blunt's wedding to actor John Krasinski, and the rest is history.

2. She overcame a serious speech impediment by taking up theater

Blunt took up acting at the suggestion of a grade-school teacher who believed it might have a therapeutic effect on her stutter, which seemed to dominate her life when she was younger. Blunt tried numerous different strategies to smooth out her speech, from visualization techniques to relaxation therapy, but it seems acting was the key all along.

3. She has a song written about her

Blunt dated singer Michael Bublé from 2005 to 2008. During that time, Bublé actually wrote a song about Blunt called "Everything." Blunt also lent her vocals to the song "Me and Mrs. Jones" on his album Call Me Irresponsible.

4. She's an accomplished singer and cellist

Blunt's vocal stylings have been heard in full in the film adaptation of the musical Into the Woods, and she's also an accomplished cellist. She was actually able to show off her skills as a cellist in one of her earliest films, My Summer of Love.

5. She was almost a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

According to IMDb, Blunt was actually secured to play the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2, but she dropped out in order to star in Gulliver's Travels. As a result, the role went to Scarlett Johansson. Can you imagine Blunt being a part of MCU?

6. She had an awkward run-in with the Queen Mother when she was a child

According to a January 2018 Vanity Fair profile, Blunt met the Queen Mother (the mother of Queen Elizabeth II) when Blunt was a young girl because her grandfather was a high-ranking British military official. She accompanied her grandfather to a special event where the Queen Mother was in attendance. Blunt apparently brandished a very loved, very dirty stuffed animal at the Queen Mother (seemingly unaware of who this woman was), and the Queen Mother politely replied, "Oh yes, I see that he is very well loved." Bless!

7. Her dream job would be to flip houses

Blunt mentions in that same VF profile that her dream job, if acting ever went kaput or she didn't want to do it anymore, would be to flip houses. "It would be my dream just to flip houses. I adore renovating. I love working with different materials and coming up with a different story for each room. I am Pinterest-mad," Blunt told the magazine.

McDonald's Szechuan Sauce Is Back, & This Time, They're Doing It Right

Hold onto your hats, Rick and Morty fans, because McDonald's is bringing back Szechuan sauce for a limited time on Feb. 26. You may recall the fiasco that ensued last time the chain rereleased the beloved sauce, a 1990s tie-in with the animated movie Mulan. Now that's what I call '90s!

The sauce had been featured in an episode of Rick and Morty, when one of the characters went on a quest through time to attempt to taste it just one more time. So fans of the show took to the streets when the fast-food chain announced its limited rerelease of the sauce, anxious to taste this forbidden ambrosia of McDonald's past. But they were soon to be disappointed.

More: The McDonald's Szechuan Sauce Promo Got Totally Out of Hand

There were lines of hundreds of people winding around the block at locations that had the sauce, and McDonald's soon ran out, leaving thousands of Rick and Morty fans enraged. Some locations never even received their promised shipments, and in at least one case, diners from Canada drove hours only to find upon arrival in the States that the location they had their hearts set on never had the Szechuan sauce at all.

In some cases, the police were even called to control the crowds, which were destroying parking lots of local McDonald's restaurants and causing trouble. Basically, it was mass hysteria on a scale the chain did not anticipate, so this time around, they're doing things a little differently.

For starters, Szechuan sauce will be available at every McDonald's in the nation on Feb. 26, so you don't have to worry about traveling too far to get your hands on some. They are also releasing 20 million of the sauce packets this time around, which will be sold until they run out. It could still go faster than anticipated depending on how thirsty Rick and Morty fans are to get a taste, but at least everyone has a fighting chance. I'm not even in it for the fandom. I just think it would be exciting to have another sauce option with my McNuggets. You can only rely on the powers of sweet and sour for so many years (like, 20 at this point if my calculations are correct) because it starts to lose some of its charm.

If Feb. 26 still feels impossibly far away, McDonald's is also releasing a three-episode podcast you can listen to about their sauce woes last autumn (if you're really hard up for entertainment, I guess).

So, get ready for Feb. 26, because it's a date that's sure to live on in our hearts, minds and stomachs... for longer than we might expect based on my past experience with McDonald's food and my digestive system.

How to Ask for a Raise — and Get One

$
0
0

With year-end reviews over and the 2018 work year in full swing, you may be wondering when your next opportunity for a raise or promotion is. The good news? It may be sooner than you think.

Two women who know a lot about getting raises are Rachel Jo Silver — founder of Love Stories TV, a media company building a library of data-enriched wedding videos from around the world — and Ally-Jane Grossan, host of the money and finance education podcast Moneysplained. Ahead, they offer tips for navigating the tricky issue of asking for and, more importantly, getting a raise.

Understand the wage gap
It's a fact: Women make less money than their male counterparts,” acknowledges Grossan. “Companies pay us less and we've been conditioned to accept working for less. As a gender, we need to collectively get over it and start mimicking some of the practices of our male counterparts, starting with having the confidence to ask for a raise.”

Be up-front
“No one likes to receive an email or calendar invite with a cryptic message like, ‘There are some things I'd like to discuss,’” says Silver. Instead, set a meeting and say you’d like to discuss your compensation. And when the time comes to actually ask for a raise, Silver recommends a simple, straightforward message. Here's one: “I'd like to discuss my compensation — it's been X long since we've discussed it. To refresh, we discussed X the last time, and since then, I've achieved X. Based on my performance and the market, I request X.”

Utilize your HR department
If you’re employed at a company large enough to have an HR department, use it. It’s there for a reason. “Always chat with HR before asking for a raise,” advises Silver. “They can help you set expectations and do the prework for you with your manager.”

Set realistic goals
Before you ask for a raise, definitely research what other, similar companies are paying employees in comparable roles. “There’s no hard-and-fast rules, but 2 percent is generally the rate of inflation, so if you're not getting at least that each year, it's definitely time to go to HR,” says Grossan. If you’re looking at a performance raise, the range should be about 5 to 10 percent depending on your industry, and if you’re getting promoted — especially if you’ve begun to supervise others — Grossan says a 20 to 30 percent increase is a good starting point.

Know your company’s financial situation
“The no. 1 factor is always how the company is doing overall,” stresses Silver. “If the company is doing well, then it's easier to reward top performers. If the company has a tight budget, then it becomes more difficult. Remember to be aware of the company situation, not just what you want.”

Ask for other incentives
Unfortunately, a raise isn’t always an option, especially if your company is struggling. If that’s the case, consider other things you could ask for, like equity, a title bump or more vacation time. “Generally you always give someone an annual cost-of-living increase as a baseline and more comp increase based on their performance,” says Silver.

Be strategic about timing
There may be better windows of opportunity to ask for a raise, and one of the best times is when you’re coming off a big success. “There's the idea that you have to wait for your annual review or to be given more responsibility to get a salary bump, but that's what keeps a lot of women at lower salaries,” says Grossan. “If you've done well and have been at a job for a year or more, it's probably time to remind your superiors why you are valuable.”

Don’t give up
If you’re denied a raise or promotion, don't think it’s the end. A company may present you with a response that says it's not in a position to give out raises because of a slow year, which is a company-wide issue and not a personal one. Or your manager may not think you’re ready for a raise yet, but that’s no reason to get defeated. “Having your request denied is disappointing, but it's a good opportunity to let your boss know you're serious,” says Grossan. “Ask what the timeline is for a raise and what else you can be doing to achieve your goal. You've already presented a strong case, so your desire to take on more responsibility and be compensated for it is fresh in their minds, and it doesn't hurt to remind them in six months.”

While approaching higher-ups is never an easy task, hopefully these tips provide some encouragement to ask for the salary you want — and deserve.

This Is Us Might Kill Another Character, & You're Not Going to Like Who

When did showrunner Dan Fogelman become the new Shonda Rhimes? Viewers are still reeling from finally finding out how This Is Us' favorite dad, Jack Pearson (played by Milo Ventimiglia) died, and now there are clues that another devastating character death could be on the horizon. Brace yourselves: you're not going to like this one.

More: Now That We Know How Jack Dies, This Is Us Is Fast-Forwarding Things

Granted, this is all just speculation, but a writer over at Refinery29 has pointed out a handful of clues that seem to tell us Beth may be the next to go. Fogelman, you wouldn't dare; there are not enough tissues in the world to get viewers through that.

The first clue comes from the Super Bowl episode in which there's a flash-forward scene that shows an older Randall visiting his eldest daughter, Tess, at her office, where she works as a social worker. But where's Beth? Was she just busy that day? It's entirely possible except for another major clue: Randall's hands are never shown, so you can't see whether he's wearing his wedding ring.

More: You Need to See Sterling K. Brown's Historic Golden Globes Win & Speech

Sterling K. Brown, who plays Randall, seemed to back this theory up when he posted a photo of future Randall to Instagram, again, with his hands out of sight.

Clues that beth will die next on This Is Us

Clues that beth will die next on This Is Us

There are already rumors there's a Randall-Beth divorce coming, and that could explain the unseen wedding ring. But there's one more clue to back up the theory that Beth dies: Refinery29 makes note of TVLine's Ask Ausiello column, which is purposefully vague in a recent blind item, stating that "an extremely popular broadcast drama that’s been on the air for less than three seasons" is planning a storyline in which a "pivotal character" is diagnosed with terminal cancer. That is definitely This Is Us. What else could it even be? And since Beth's father already died from cancer in the first season, it's not a huge leap to guess that she might have the same fate.

Fogelman, this is unacceptable. There's still time to fix this and give everyone a happy ending, so please do that, thanks.

Chrissy Teigen Slams Paparazzi for Taking Photos of Her Undressing

Chrissy Teigen is cool about a lot of things: penis sweaterspeach fuzz rashes, her husband looking like Arthur. But creepy men taking half-naked pictures of her in a dressing room? That’s something she can’t get on board with.

On Wednesday, she called out a paparazzo for invading her privacy by taking a picture of her in a dressing room as she was trying on clothes. The photos, which showed Teigen putting on ill-fitting items that exposed parts of her body, including her breasts, were then published by tabloids, which claimed she was wearing a “revealing dress.” (Mind you, she’s half-naked. Of course, it’s revealing.)

The issue was brought to her attention when a fan told Teigen that she saw a Snapchat news story that labeled her outfit as “revealing.” Teigen explained that the dress only became revealing when a man barged into the store she was in and took pictures of her undressing without her knowledge or consent.

“It only became a 'revealing dress' when the photographer shot into a store into the changing area when I’m half dressed,” she tweeted. “I will find him today and we will have a chat.”

The Real Reasons Couples Stop Having Sex

New relationships are exciting, getting to know the person intellectually, emotionally and — let's not forget — physically. At the beginning, you don't have to deal with downers like meeting each other's families and shared household expenses — you're simply enjoying learning more about the other person.

But as we all know, that phase doesn't last forever. Sure, you probably still have sex, but maybe not at the same frequency as when you first met. The thing is, that's completely normal and not something to be too concerned about. But why, exactly, does it happen?

New research by DrEd (an online doctor service based in the U.K.), which involved surveying 1,000 men and women from both Europe and the United States, has some surprising answers. And to clarify, in this survey, "sex" wasn't defined — it was left up to the person responding — and participants included all sexual orientations and identities.

More: These Things Could Be Behind Your Low Libido

What's not surprising is that 71.5 percent of couples reported that one of the reasons they don't have sex is being too tired. Around half of respondents said that work or being too busy in general also keeps them from hitting the sheets.

One aspect of sex that isn't mentioned frequently is the impact of pain. In reality, it's pretty significant, with 12.8 percent of people surveyed saying they avoid sex because of some sort of pain. Whether that's pain directly resulting from penetrative intercourse — common for people who suffer from conditions like vulvodynia, vaginismus and vaginal atrophy — or other types of discomfort, like a bad back, knees or arthritis, knowing sex will hurt doesn't exactly make it enticing.

Other people prefer sex with someone who knows exactly what they want — themselves. The survey found that 9.1 percent of couples don't have sex because one or both partners prefer to masturbate instead. That's completely understandable and more efficient, but also not a total deal-breaker because masturbation could be incorporated into sex with a partner relatively easily.

More: Masturbation Comes With Some Serious Health Benefits

But it isn't all doom and gloom: There are also many reasons sex in a long-term relationship can be even more satisfying than with a new partner, including being able to be more open with each other about sexual desires and experimenting with new experiences. Better yet, the survey found that the more couples talked to each other about sex, the more sex they ended up having.

Communication really is key regardless of the stage of the relationship, and since it can lead to a more fulfilling sex life, you might as well get that conversation started now.

Teigen shared just a few of her destination ideas with SheKnows last August.

"I feel like there are a lot of places we want to go now that we're just waiting for [Luna] to get a little bit older for," she said. "For instance, we want to go to Kenya on a safari [or] South Africa once she learns all her animals. I want to take her to Thailand because, obviously, my mother's from Thailand and I want her to visit her roots."

Levine hasn't shared a picture of little Gio on his own social media accounts yet, but judging by his November interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he couldn't be more thrilled about the new addition. At the time, he said he wants a lot of children, adding, "I thrive in chaos." Hopefully, he also thrives on changing diapers.

Good News – Everything You Knew About a Woman’s Sexual Peak Is Probably Wrong

$
0
0

What are people even talking about when they use the term “sexual peak”? Essentially, the phrase refers to the point in your life when you’re feeling the most sexually confident and interested in sex. These two parts might not necessarily coincide, of course — just because you want to have sex doesn’t mean you feel awesome about your body, which has a lot to do with the fact that our traditional ideas about when (and if) someone’s sexual peak arrives are probably inaccurate.

Some of the early research on the sexual peak, or prime, was done by Dr. Alfred Kinsey — you may have heard of his work in the form of Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (published in 1948) and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (published in 1953) or references to the Kinsey scale. Kinsey extrapolated that a cis man’s sexual peak occurs around the age of 18, and for cis women in their mid- to late 20s/early 30s. In Kinsey’s version of prime sexuality, though, we’re only talking about when hormone levels — estrogen and testosterone — are highest.

More: Let's Talk About What Marijuana Can (Maybe) Do for Your Sex Drive

Now, of course, we know sexual desire isn’t just about hormones, and therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that folks who are older than 18 or 25 or 30 are into sex and that some folks never reach what could be considered a sexual peak at all.

More: Is Squirting Just Peeing? And Other Pelvic Health Answers You Need to Know

We have truly and deeply bought into and perpetuated the idea that people, particularly women of a certain age, no longer have sexual desire (or are desirable). “For a long time, the general assumption has been that people’s desire decreases as they age,” says Kinkly contributor Tara Struyk. “That in turn may have affected their behavior and feelings toward sex. However, we are increasingly discovering that the body remains capable of pleasure well into old age.”

Asking more and different questions about women, sexuality and culture has led to the formation of new ideas around the sexual peak. It might also simply be that some folks have consistently higher sex drives throughout their lives than other people. There are many reasons sex drives can vary over the course of a lifetime — that is, become higher and lower — including pregnancy, having kids, taking antidepressantsanxiety and the experience of being a woman in a society where misogyny is an active and unrelenting force.

Is there a bottom line when it comes to a woman’s sexual peak? “Now, it is believed that for a woman, there is no such a age limit,” says Dr. Mashfika N. Alam, a family physician with iCliniq. “It can happen early like men or it can happen later, depending on when she feels confident and comfortable with respect to her sexuality.”

More: 6 Things Uncomfortable Sex Can Signify

Maybe not surprisingly, both the concept and the reality of the sexual peak is more complicated than Kinsey would have had us believe. Says Struyk,”Libido can be impacted by so many external factors, including general healthstress, life events and your sexual partners. When it comes to sex, everyone has their own story.”

So worry less, then, at least sex-wise, about your best days being behind you.

That One Time Justin Theroux (Reportedly) Found Brad Pitt Love Notes

$

There's a whole lot of speculation out there about Jennifer Aniston's love life amid her split from Justin Theroux. So many '90s fans saw Aniston get spurned by Brad Pitt when he left her for Angelina Jolie yet have wondered if Pitt and Aniston have actually been meant to be all along. Now that Pitt is single, is it a coincidence Aniston suddenly is too?

More: Who Was (& Was Not) Invited to Ellen DeGeneres' 60th Birthday Bash

And here's just a little more fuel to throw on that rumor fire: During their two-year marriage, Theroux reportedly found love notes from Pitt that Aniston had kept for all these years.

"He stumbled upon old Post-it notes Brad had written," a source told Us Weekly. "Sweet little Post-its like, ‘You looked nice tonight’ or ‘Miss you already.'"

More: Jennifer Aniston's BFFs Got Together & Argued Over Who the Best Friend Is

The insider added, "Jen assured him they weren’t a big deal, but Justin wasn’t thrilled … Justin had moments of insecurity like that."

This news needs to be taken with a grain of salt, of course, since it's coming from an anonymous source. It's also entirely possible Aniston did hang onto love notes from Pitt as little mementos from a prior part of her life. That's not that strange, is it? It doesn't necessarily mean anything if someone keeps sentimental reminders of an ex, especially one from so long ago.

More: All the Times Jennifer Aniston Rejected Society's Rules

But what if this does mean something? What if the timing of Aniston's divorce isn't purely a coincidence? What if there is still something between her and Pitt, and what if they truly are meant to be? These are the questions we need answers to, and ASAP.

The Mom's Guide to Glasgow

As a Glaswegian, I’m totally biased, of course, but I’m also not kidding when I say Glasgow is a great travel destination for children. As Scotland’s largest city (and its “other” capital — don’t deny it, Edinburgers), Glasgow is surprisingly compact and has great public transportation, which makes it easy to squeeze in a wide range of attractions even if you only have a day or two. But if you have longer... well, sit back and start planning. You (and your kids) have a lot of Weegie fun ahead.

Glasgow Science Centre

Glasgow Science Centre

No trip to Glasgow is complete without a visit to Glasgow Science Centre. Kids of all ages love the planetarium show and the visual illusion rooms, while the themed Little Explorer days, aimed at 3- to 5-year-olds and free for under-3s, are packed with workshops, drop-ins and activities. Previous themes include “Up, Up and Away” (bubbles, rockets, things that fly) and “Dino Dig” (fossils, animals and prehistoric play). During the summer, the center's 127-meter-high Glasgow Tower (the tallest fully rotating freestanding structure in the world and the only structure on Earth capable of rotating 360 degrees into the prevailing wind) provides unrivaled views of the city, the River Clyde and surrounding landscapes. There’s a picnic area if you want to take your own food, and the café serves kids portions that are plenty big enough for adults.

The Children's Wood

The "last wild space" in the West End of Glasgow (records show there have never been any buildings on this land), The Children's Wood on North Kelvin Meadow is a community green space that exists thanks to years of local residents' peaceful protests, petitions and passion. The community's efforts have prevented plans to build on the land, and it remains a place for free fun and educational children's events, including regular den-building and tree-planting days and seasonal celebrations. All are welcome.

Glasgow Kelvingrove Art Gallery

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Visitors to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which opened in 1901, are greeted by a 1940s spitfire, Sir Roger the Asian elephant, the cast of a Ceratosaur, bees and bugs and free Toddler Time every Friday, with songs and stories for the under-2s (no need to book). Visit the website for details of child-friendly events and workshops, such as nest-box-building for house sparrows. Try to stop by just before 1 p.m. to hear the daily organ recital — the very one that went viral on Jan. 10,  2016, when organist Chris Nickol stunned visitors by playing "Life on Mars" as a tribute to David Bowie after hearing of the musician's death on the morning news.

Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Glasgow Botanic Gardens

In the heart of the city’s West End since 1842, the Botanic Gardens is the perfect green space for kids to let off steam and enjoy some bracing Glasgow air — and maybe even some sunshine if you're lucky. Sunshine or not, the grounds are stunning and packed full of colorful fauna from every corner of the world. There’s a great kids play area, delicious cakes in the café, a fishpond and plenty of squirrels to look for/chase/feed.

Princes Square in Glasgow

Princes Square

Slap-bang in the middle of Glasgow's main shopping thoroughfare, Buchanan Street, is Princes Square. Since it opened in 1988, it's been the most appealing lunch option for families with children, because you can let your kid run riot while you eat and drink! Seriously — it's practically expected of you. Eating spots on the ground floor (like PizzaExpress, Darcy's and Café Bombón) surround an open central space, aka the unofficial playground. So you can let your little ones burn off their energy while you "supervise closely"-slash-relax.

Fossil Grove at Victoria Park

In Victoria Park in the city's West End lies Fossil Grove, Glasgow's most ancient attraction. Fossilized tree stumps were discovered here when rocks were removed during a landscaping project in 1887, and the remains of this 330-million-year-old forest are still there today. Besides Fossil Grove, the 50-acre Victoria Park has beautiful floral displays, an orienteering course, a model yachting pond and children's play areas.

Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art

GoMA's Saturday Art Club

The Gallery of Modern Art's Saturday Art Club is a free drop-in kids art workshop for 3- to 12-year-olds held every Saturday morning in the studio space overlooking the city center rooftops surrounded by murals by Scottish figurative artist and "Glasgow Pup" Adrian Wiszniewski. Families create art responses using a different piece from the contemporary art collection every week, with all materials provided and staff and volunteers on hand to assist.

Pollok House Glasgow Scotland

Pollok House

To keep your kid entertained for hours, just pop them in the maze while you marvel at the brilliance of Pollok House in the very scenic Pollok Country Park. Downton Abbey has nothing on this place. One of the National Trust for Scotland's grandest properties, it was built in the mid-18th century and houses an impressive collection of art as well as a library designed to hold 7,000 books. The park also has an adventure playground, riverside and woodland walks and plenty of spots for a picnic.

The White Elephant

It's not easy to find a grown-up restaurant that's child-friendly, especially in a city center. Sure, many places have offerings for kids, but parents know a miniscule pack of crayons and connect-the-dots on the back of the menu doesn't work for more than about five minutes. The White Elephant in Cathcart (the south side of the city), on the other hand, has an entire conservatory full of kids toys (and awesome toys at that — including a bouncy castle). The pub's website even invites "kids to run wild," so there you go. The menu is equally impressive, with fresh local produce and a midweek special offer (£10.95, a little over $15 USD, for two courses) running all day, Monday to Friday.

Tollcross Park Children's Farm

Tollcross Park Children's Farm Glasgow

The East End's Tollcross Park may be most famous for its unique rose garden, but for its younger visitors, it's all about the animals. The children's farm has shire horses, Shetland ponies, an aviary, rabbits, sheep, pigs, chicken, lovebirds, Highland cattle and maybe even a llama or two. There's also a secret garden, a play area for under-12s, an orienteering course and the likelihood of spotting wildlife such as bats, foxes and woodpeckers.

Whitespace Kids

Whitespace KIDS toy shop

Tucked away in Battlefield, a Glasgow district south of the River Clyde, is Whitespace Kids. This is no regular toy shop. If you want to pick up a beautiful memento of your trip to Glasgow, give the big toy chains a swerve and head to Whitespace Kids, where you'll find brands not stocked anywhere else in the city. Make sure you have plenty of time, though, because the selection of books, creative toys, clothes and games is incredible.

Scotland Street School Museum Glasgow

Scotland Street School Museum

Anyone who grew up on the south side of Glasgow in the early mid-1900s probably went to Scotland Street School — and anyone who grew up anywhere in southwest Scotland post-1990 has probably paid it a visit. The school, which was designed by renowned Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, closed in 1979 but reopened in 1990 as the Scotland Street School Museum. The Horrible Heedie Tour is what the museum calls "fun, fear-filled and informative" for all ages, but don't be late or you'll face the wrath of the heedie — that's head teacher to non-Scots. (When this here leftie went there as a kid, I was even made to write with my right hand, which was equal parts terrifying and fascinating.)

Gruffalo Woods

It's a little off the beaten track, but Kilmardinny Loch in Bearsden (about 5 miles from the city center) is worth a visit for any fans of The Gruffalo (and his child). Incredible wooden carvings all around the loch feature a huge gruffalo and his gang (snake, fox, owl, etc.). The walk around the loch is stroller-friendly and can easily be done in 20 minutes or less depending on how little your kid's legs are. And there are plenty of ducks, swans and other birds to spot along the way, plus a good play park directly adjacent — perfect if you're staying in the city center but want a taste of the countryside.

Intu Braehead

Snow Factor Glasgow

Situated at Intu Braehead, a huge shopping/entertainment center just a few miles outside downtown, Snow Factor is Scotland’s only year-round snow sports resort and boasts the longest indoor real snow slope in the U.K. There's a dedicated teaching/instruction slope as well as the main ski slope, four ski lifts and an ice wall. If you have several kids of different ages who are into different things (and if you also have another adult to accompany them), split up at Intu to try out mini golf, bowling, climbing a movie theater and lots of restaurants — all indoors.

Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre

If you'd relish the chance to show your kids amazing things can be done with their hands aside from just swiping and scrolling, head to Glasgow's West End for the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre. Founded in 1981 by professional puppeteer and mask-maker Malcolm Yates Knight, throughout the week, the center hosts regular family shows that run 45 minutes to one hour — and are generally suitable for ages 3-plus.

And you'll definitely see some incredible murals; they're so good in Glasgow, there's even an official city center mural trail. Do come visit.

The Best Houseplants That Basically Anyone Can Keep Alive

$

0

Bringing the outdoors in is huge in decor right now, and seemingly everyone I know has a lush indoor garden full of flourishing houseplants. I, on the other hand, have a trickier relationship with the green things I bring into my home. I wouldn't call my thumb black, but it's definitely getting there, and so, sadly, are many of my own plants.

That's why I reached out to some experts to find out which types of houseplants are easiest to keep alive. We're talking low-maintenance wonders that can stand up to your neglect while still bringing a touch of green into your life. Take a look at the list below, then see if any of these gorgeous plants could be a fit in your home.

Note: Some houseplants are toxic to pets. You can see which are safe using the ASPCA's guide.

1. Pothos

Also called devil's ivy, pothos is a favorite houseplant of Justin Hancock, a horticulturalist for Costa Farms (the largest grower of houseplants in the world). It does well in "bright, medium or low light and doesn’t mind drying out now and again. Pothos offers heart-shaped green leaves often speckled in shades of gold, cream, silver or white depending on the variety. It's a vine, so you can grow it up pole or [a] trellis, let it trail from a basket or train it horizontally along a mantle." It is also a great choice if you're looking for a plant that can help purify the air in your home.

2. Spider plant

We all had spider plants growing up, and they're back in a big way. Hancock explains this plant "likes a bright spot best, but does just fine in low and medium light too... natural or artificial light is just fine." You will occasionally need to snip any dead leaves and should keep to a regular watering schedule, but "because it has thick, tuberous roots that store moisture, it's not fussy about how often you water."

3. Ponytail palm

Ponytail palms are used to dry weather and have a trunk that stores water, explained Hancock. "However, yours will be happiest and grow best if you give it water when the top inch or 2 of the potting mix dries to the touch," he shared. It does best in medium to bright light and "looks ready for a Hawaiian shirt and a margarita next to it."

4. Chinese evergreen

Chinese evergreen is a good choice if you don't have a lot of natural light coming into your space. "It's also pretty forgiving when it comes to watering and can go two or three weeks without moisture if it has to, though it grows best when you add water once the top inch or 2 of the potting mix dries," Hancock told us.

5. ZZ plant

The ZZ plant is one you might not have heard of, but it's well-suited to growing indoors. "It has thick, rubbery leaves that might remind you of a palm or fern; many people think they look like plastic. It requires about as much attention as a plastic plant too," shared Hancock. It will grow faster in bright light, but does just fine in areas with low to medium light too. And you only need to water it once a week or so.

6. English ivy

Leslie Fischer, founder of Sustainable Slumber, likes English ivy. "It does not require much sunlight or water, and its trailing leaves are absolutely beautiful. Their value goes beyond the aesthetic; they are actually very powerful air filters. They remove toxic agents from the air like formaldehyde and benzene, among many others," which can make your space literally easier to breathe in.

7. Barrel head cactus

"Cacti are great for black thumbs; they require very little water and just need some direct, bright light," Meghan MacDonald, owner of plant care and consultation company Penny & the Plants, told us. "The only surefire way to kill a cactus is by overwatering them... my personal favorite is the barrel head cactus."

8. Air plants (or tillandsia)

Air plants are super-trendy right now, and it's easy to see why. But they're also surprisingly easy to care for. "They are not planted in soil, as each leaf on an air plant is covered in specialized scales known as trichomes. Trichomes have the ability to absorb water and nutrients just as roots on other plants would from soil," explains MacDonald. Because of this, you can display them in all sorts of fun ways. They thrive on filtered light and need to be watered once a week by being submerged fully for a half hour, then dried.

9. Parlor palm

If you're interested in plants that are especially good at filtering air, parlor palms are for you. "NASA includes this plant in their top-50 list for plants that clean the air," shared Anthony Smith, owner of Nursery Enterprises. "It can handle low light, low humidity, bad air, near-freezing temperatures and some neglect," so it's perfect for people who are used to accidentally killing off their beloved plants.

10. Snake plant

Gardening expert and writer Jane Clarke of Fantastic Services Australia told us, "One of the easiest houseplants to take care of is the snake plant. It is also known as mother-in-law’s tongue or sansevieria. It may be easy to grow, but that doesn’t mean that it is not beautiful. As well as that, it acts as a natural air purifier." They thrive in indirect light, and you should let the soil dry completely between waterings — meaning it's OK if you forget about it from time to time.

11. Prayer plant

"Another easy-to-grow houseplant is the prayer plant," Clarke shared. "Its name does not correspond to its needs. You won't have to pray in order for it to thrive. Exactly the opposite, actually." Clarke recommends placing your prayer plant with other houseplants, which will help maintain the humid environment it craves. It should be watered every two weeks — if it starts to dry out, you can always spritz it with water.

12. Peace lily

Lester Poole, master gardener at Lowe's, loves the peace lily. "Although the peace lily may appear high-maintenance with its stylish appearance, it's actually very easy to grow. Great for apartments or spaces with limited windows, the peace lily does well with low light and flourishes in room temperature," Poole shared.

13. Aloe vera

"Aloe vera is easy to care for," Poole said. "As part of the succulent family, [it] soaks up sunlight but needs little water. As long as you pop your plant into a sunny corner, you're set to head out for vacation or part ways for a few days without any worries."

14. Cast-iron plant

Like its namesake, the cast-iron plant is very hardy. "[It] can withstand low light and a wide range of temperatures. This means less worry on changes in temperature when planted outside and that it's a perfect companion for those with a heavy hand on the thermostat when growing indoors," shared Poole.

Bringing something alive and green into your home might seem daunting, but these easy-care plants deserve a chance. Once you realize how easy it is, you might find yourself becoming a full-fledged crazy plant person.

We're not sure where bad pickup lines started, but somehow they've become almost an art form. (Or at least the bad ones.) How do you craft something full of puns and nonspecific compliments that's cheesy enough that the other person might assume there's some depth underneath your one-liner? Anyway, we hope these pickup lines will give you a laugh. Just promise never to (seriously) use them.

Brendan Fraser Claims He Was Groped by a Powerful Man in Hollywood

A heartbreaking new profile from GQ may have just revealed why beloved, lovable, goofy '90s action star Brendan Fraser has been out of the public eye for so long. The actor, best known for roles in films like George of the Jungle and The Mummy, has kept a low profile for the last decade or so, with many believing that a combination of factors — including a reportedly acrimonious divorce and falling out of favor with Hollywood — was the reason Fraser's cachet had come up short.

More: Time's Person of the Year 2017 Honors the #MeToo Movement

But within this new profile, which touches on his exciting career renaissance with TV roles in The Affair and the upcoming FX limited series Trust, a troubling new detail emerges that could explain why Fraser has been out of the spotlight for the better part of two decades: he may have been sexually assaulted by Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Philip Berk.

In the GQ interview, Fraser details over the phone about an incident that may have happened at the 2003 Golden Globes. At one point, Fraser was called over by Berk, likely to chat. After shaking hands with Berk, Berk apparently "pinched Fraser's ass — in jest, according to Berk," GQ reports. "But Fraser says what Berk did was more than a pinch: 'His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around.' Fraser says that in this moment he was overcome with panic and fear."

More: How to Get Away with Murder Star Reveals She Was Raped

Fraser was able to extricate himself from the uncomfortable situation but he was unable to talk about it for quite some time. "I didn't want to contend with how that made me feel, or it becoming part of my narrative," he told GQ. The entire incident "'made me retreat. It made me feel reclusive,'" he noted. It seems to be implied, both in Fraser's statements as well as the tone of the profile, that this alleged incident is partially behind Fraser's retreat from the public eye for years.

It wasn't until these recent months, with droves and droves of women and men coming forward to speak about their own stories of sexual assault and harassment, that he even felt comfortable to talk about what happened in 2003.

"I know Rose [McGowan], I know Ashley [Judd], I know Mira [Sorvino]—I've worked with them. I call them friends in my mind. I haven't spoken to them in years, but they're my friends. I watched this wonderful movement, these people with the courage to say what I didn't have the courage to say," he told GQ, further elaborating, "Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely. [...] And maybe I am over-reacting in terms of what the instance was. I just know what my truth is. And it's what I just spoke to you."

More: Harvey Weinstein Incurs the Wrath of Meryl Streep by Naming Her in His Lawsuit

Through the GQ profile and his reps, Berk has denied Fraser's claims. "Mr. Fraser's version is a total fabrication. My apology admitted no wrongdoing, the usual 'If I've done anything that upset Mr. Fraser, it was not intended and I apologize.'"

That said, reading through Fraser's claims and factoring it in with the anecdotal evidence in the piece — including notes about extensive surgeries he underwent to account for stuntwork and physical exertion from his films — that he has been, for years now, a beloved but rapidly aging relic of the '90s (career renaissance or not), it's hard to to get misty-eyed. It's good to see Fraser is coming out on the other side with projects lined up and a seemingly positive attitude, but it's never easy to hear that someone's absence from the work and industry they love wasn't really their choice.

News reports that multiple sources have come forward to say McAdams and her boyfriend, screenwriter Jamie Linden, are on their way to becoming first-time parents. Yep, "multiple sources." That's all we've got, folks. That and the fact that McAdams was spotted at the airport wearing a baggy jacket. It's amazing the outfits that fuel the preggo rumor mill these days (answer: every outfit).

According to Us Weekly, McAdams and Linden have been an item since 2016, just months after fans speculated McAdams had been dating her former True Detective costar, Taylor Kitsch.

Should the rumors be true, it would seem McAdams took a play from Kylie Jenner's playbook in opting to keep her pregnancy on the down-low. The youngest KardashaJenner recently welcomed daughter Stormi Webster with boyfriend Travis Scott after taking a nine-month hiatus from life in the public eye.

Honestly, who could blame a celeb gal — or any gal — for wanting to take a breather out of the spotlight, pregnancy or no pregnancy? It's got to be exhausting having people pick apart your every move, let alone never being able to go to the grocery store for a late-night ice cream run without the entire world knowing.

But McAdams' absence from the media as of late could well have more to do with her mental health than any reported pregnancy.

"I have a little bit of social anxiety," she recently told Yahoo7's Be while promoting her new comedy, Game Night. "So, going to a party and talking to a bunch of strangers makes me want to stay home forever."

While we respect McAdams' desire for privacy any time she wants, we'll admit the thought of never seeing her rock a maternity dress is a little disappointing. But we'll live. And lucky for us, McAdams was "pregnant" in the film About Time, so we have proof she'd be just as adorable as we imagined.
