Harvey Weinstein's Alleged Sex Crimes Brought Back Memories of My Own Harassment

When I first read about the allegations about Harvey Weinstein, I wasn’t surprised. It’s not just because my Spidey sense kicked in whenever I spotted him on the red carpet at an award show, giving me creepy, chilling vibes, causing me to wonder how J. Law could stand so close to him. But it was because the allegations brought forth from his victims hit home with me in a way that made me feel sick to my stomach. I have a similar story.

I actually have a few (which is horrible, but unfortunately not unique) but there was one that initially stuck out to me. It was the word “massage” used in the Weinstein allegations that socked me hard in the stomach, bringing me back to when I was 22 years old.

Fresh out of NYU, I had secured my first serving job at a well-known entertainment establishment in the West Village. I was inexperienced in every sense of the word — at serving tables, at navigating both my professional and personal life — but I found a community within the restaurant that gave me a sense of place and purpose. I quickly struck up a friendship with the head cook of the restaurant. He was in his late 50s if not early 60s with a paunch and a jovial spirit. He was married to a younger wife with a young daughter. He would sneak me food — like, the good food you usually have to pay for — and he would offer me advice on various things and give me the biggest bear hugs. I viewed him more like a grandfather, and when he told my mother, who was visiting from Toronto, that he would look after me, we both believed and trusted him.

More: Why Terry Crews Talking About Being Sexually Assaulted Is a Game-Changer

A few months later, I gradually noticed changes in his behavior. How frequently he demeaned my boyfriend at the time. How his hugs would linger a little longer and just felt… not right. It was around this time that he had invited me to dinner, and I went. I went, and even now as I write these words, I feel shame. I feel embarrassed. But we’ll get back to that.

I went up to his apartment to eat our Chinese takeout. Afterward, we sat on his couch to watch some TV. He moved closer. Then closer. I immediately sensed something wasn’t right, but before I could make a move, a mouse scurried across the floor, causing me to scream and jump out of my seat. He took this as his opportunity to make his move. He wrapped me in a huge, overbearing embrace and then started to massage my shoulders. He asked me if I wanted to move the massage into the bedroom, and that’s when I knew I was in trouble. I pulled out from his embrace, grabbed my things and raced toward the stairs. He called after me, laughing, “What do you think I was going to do?” I didn’t want to find out.

This is a story that I shared on my Facebook status, inspired by writer Anne T. Donahue’s tweet on Oct. 5 that asked her followers to share their own Weinstein-type stories. But here’s the thing. Before I began typing, I didn’t think my own story was worth sharing. I didn’t think it was devastating or traumatic enough. I didn’t even consider it worthy of being called sexual harassment. Because I should have known better. Right? After all, that was the response given to me by male co-workers, including my then-boyfriend, after I relayed the story to them.

AD

“Why did you go up there?” they asked me. “You should have known what he wanted. You should have known better.” And this is what I did think for many years after: that I should have known better.

More: Reminder: Vagina Is Not a Dirty Word

I remember feeling so embarrassed at the time. I always prided myself on being quick and clever. And even 10 years later, there is still a part of me that continues to believe that. But then I think, "No! It was disgraceful and irresponsible to shame me for being 'naive' because I followed a man I trusted to his apartment for a friendly meal."

He was the predator. Why wasn’t he being shamed for manipulating me and abusing my trust for his own sexual gain? Unfortunately, it’s what a lot of men do. Knowingly or not, they often diminish women and attempt to twist our character in order to explain, justify and rationalize something horribly, disgustingly wrong.

If you’re sweet and quiet, then you’re naive. If you’re tough and opinionated, then it shouldn’t really bother you. If you’re overweight and not conventionally “attractive,” you should be flattered. Or my personal favorite: You’re just overreacting.

It’s this pervasive mind game that has left many, including myself, to second guess whether or not they have been victims of sexual harassment or assault. To question whether their stories matter. Situations I knew weren’t right, but ones that still left me questioning whether or not I was in any “real” danger or had actually been violated because I was fine, right? I came out of it OK. I didn’t have to go the trauma unit of a hospital or attend years of therapy because of it.

More: Here's How to Call Out Sexual Harassment

But I think I didn’t know just how disturbing these instances actually were because I, like so many other women, have been taught to minimize our feelings and experiences. That because boys will be boys, what can we expect? It’s not that big a deal. We should have known better. The Weinstein stories, as well as my own, have reminded me just how difficult it is to rewrite something that’s been forced on you — whether it’s a body, morals, facts, culture or even a story that you’ve told yourself.

After I shared my story online, I was overwhelmed with support, which included some of my friends bravely sharing their own stories of sexual harassment and abuse. This is what we need to continue to do. We are healing ourselves by healing each other through our stories. Because they all matter. And if we continue to share, to speak up, to own our truth and ultimately heal, then maybe something will change. I hope it will.

Steve Irwin's Family Is Making Their Official Return to TV

It has been 11 years since Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray barb while filming a documentary on deadly ocean creatures. Eleven years: Can you even believe that? The Irwin family used to be in our living rooms weekly thanks to their bevy of Animal Planet shows like The Crocodile Hunter, Croc Files and New Breed Vets.

More: Missing Bindi Irwin? We've Got 7 Things to Know About Her

Even though we still all miss Steve, the rest of the family is about to make its return to TV — just don't get too excited about them being on screen, because we don't know yet whether they will be. Bindi Irwin, Steve's 19-year-old daughter, just announced that she, her mom, Terri Irwin, and brother, 13-year-old Robert Irwin, are becoming global ambassadors for Discovery Communications, which owns Animal Planet. They'll be producing and creating content for the network, but whether they will star in any of it still remains to be seen (fingers crossed!).

"We're so excited to be returning to Animal Planet and our wonderful Discovery Communications family," Robert said in the announcement video Bindi posted to Instagram.

Bindi added, "So watch out for next year. We have wonderful new adventures coming to your television screen."

Hopefully, this means the return of Terri, who has been keeping it pretty low-key since Steve was killed and all the family's shows were canceled. Bindi and Robert have been a little more active on screen, though. Bindi recently won the Mirrorball on her season of Dancing with the Stars, and Robert recently did an animal demonstration segment on The Tonight Show.

Big Little Lies Almost Didn't Get Made, Because Sexism

HBO's Big Little Lies was a little bit of a phenomenon. It was the must-watch show that everyone was talking about when it debuted, and it went on to net eight awards for HBO at this year's Emmys.

More: Reese Witherspoon Knows If Big Little Lies Season 2 Is Happening

Obviously, Big Little Lies was a big deal. That sucks for Amazon, because it missed out on the chance to have the series because of its sexist executive Roy Price, who (shocker) was suspended last week following allegations of sexual harassment.

According to a Hollywood Reporter article, Price was offered the show, but passed on it because he didn't think it would have enough female nudity. Seriously. That's why he said no to a show produced by freaking Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. That is his reasoning.

More: How Big Little Lies Affected Nicole Kidman Physically & Emotionally IRL

"Company insiders say at a staff holiday party at the Lucky Strike bowling alley in Hollywood, Price asked a group of staffers if the two stars would 'show their tits' and mused aloud why he would[n't] greenlight the show if they didn’t. (In fact, Kidman did multiple nude scenes.)" the article reads.

This isn't the only way Price's skeezy policies have impacted programming at Amazon. He was reportedly the one who made the final decision to cancel Good Girls Revolt, a truly fantastic feminist series that only lasted one season. He also passed on The Handmaid's Tale, another female-centric show that was massively successful at this year's Emmys.

More: One Big Little Lies Star Might Run for Congress

You'd think that maybe missing out on all those Emmys would teach this dude a lesson, but hopefully it won't even matter. He's been accused of propositioning and harassing female employees, and thanks to Harvey Weinstein, that's something powerful men occasionally get punished for now, so he's out of his job at Amazon. If other studios and streaming services enjoy winning awards for shows featuring badass women, they won't pick him up.

Hate Today's Politics? How to Teach Kids About Tolerance

Kneel? Lock arms? Don't appear at all? However NFL players are responding to the national anthem before the football game, one thing is clear: They are divided. These days, division is a theme that plays out in our news every day and seeps into every aspect of our culture. So how can we as parents counteract this tendency to see the world as some version of "us versus them"?

As a social psychologist, I study how ideas and behaviors become embedded in memory, with a particular interest in implicit memory — how previous experiences and learning can influence behavior, even without a person’s conscious recollection. And learning social skills, as with any other habits we would like to become part of our children’s natural tendencies, requires two key tools: repetition and rehearsal.

More: Mom of NFL's Colin Kaepernick Responds to Trump Comment

If we want our children to have a more inclusive frame of mind, we need to think explicitly about what we want to encourage them to practice — and possibly even more difficult, we must model this behavior ourselves. I recommend coming up with a set of practices that you and your kids try out — and discuss — on a regular basis. For me and my two daughters, these include:

Learn to talk to someone new

It's easier for children, particularly introverts, to stick within their comfort zone — with people they already know. Learning to talk to someone new isn’t always easy, but it familiarizes children with approaching someone who might be different from them. It can start with a simple conversation with someone on the playground: "How was your weekend?" or "What is your favorite thing to do after school?" Encouraging children to initiate a conversation is the first step in teaching them to see someone who might be different or “other” as someone who is approachable.

Learn to listen

Learning from a conversation requires truly listening, which can be difficult for children. Suggest that they look someone in the eye as they are speaking — and think of at least one follow-up question to ask based on what the person is saying. My children find that coming up with a question forces them to listen without allowing their mind to wander. Plus, it can also lead the conversation somewhere even more interesting.

We can ask our children what they learned from a conversation that was new or different or what they learned about that person by talking with them. This practice encourages a mindset of thinking of conversations as learning experiences.

More: I Don't Regret Giving My Son Up for Adoption

Learn to judge whether something is true

Of course, learning to listen doesn’t mean blindly accepting everything another person says as true (this applies to conversations as well as to what children read and see). This is not to say that children should question every little thing a classmate says; rather, we can encourage them to think about whether something is actually true, the extent to which something is an opinion versus fact or when something is simply open to interpretation.

This skill is particularly relevant for social media-savvy children, who operate in an environment where it is so easy to pass information on to others. Encourage them to think critically about when the information they receive is truly to inform or whether the purpose of sharing is merely to inflame or incite.

Learn when & how to disagree constructively

Far too often, today’s political discourse veers toward simply dismissing “the other side” as uninformed, unintelligent or supremely biased. This goes for conversations among adults as well as children; for example, around this time last year, leading up to the election, my then-8-year-old had very strong opinions about classmates who were Trump supporters. In that situation, and in all such disagreements, I have advised my children with this principle: Focus on trying to understand why a person holds a belief with which you might disagree — rather than focusing on how much you disagree with them.

Then, if the conversation continues, children can learn to provide their own point of view rather than devolve into exasperation or name-calling. In essence, the goal is to separate the message from the messenger. Don’t dismiss the messenger simply because you don’t like a message.

More: How to Talk to Your Kids About Scary Things

To be sure, encouraging our children to have conversations with others doesn’t mean that every conversation will go well; in fact, some will surely go wrong. But teaching them not to be afraid of open discourse will help them learn to connect with others, see the value of learning from different perspectives and understand that they can disagree with a person without denigrating them.

It will probably take years — or more likely, many decades — to change the nature of discourse at a national level, but we can all start that change today at home with our children. After all, they're our only hope for a better future.

Survivor's Alan Ball Talks About His Detrimental Feud With Joe Mena

Alan Ball will go down in reality TV history because of the moment a grown man got naked for him on Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers. J.P. dropped trou early in the game to prove to an adamant Alan that he didn't have an Immunity Idol. In our interview with Alan, though, he admits to still being suspicious to this day that J.P. had something to hide. During our conversation, Alan also revealed which player is the most underestimated and explained his feelings toward Joe's "annoying" behavior. Plus, he discussed the current political climate surrounding the NFL and offered his thoughts on the national anthem protests.

SheKnows: Your elimination was definitely a blindside, but walk us through what was going through your mind when it all played out.

Alan Ball: When Joe pulled out the Idol, I knew I was going home. I got my initial shock when Devon read his advantage, or disadvantage, depending on what you want to call it. After he got done reading it, I thought my fate might be up in the air. Things were just going a little too strange. You know how something is so weird and awkward you know something's not right? I got the idea I might be going home, and when [Joe] got up with the Idol, it was like, OK, I am going home. We didn't have to read the votes because I knew they were for me. I knew Joe thought I was a huge threat to him. I knew I didn't like him and he didn't like me.

SK: It seemed you handled your elimination with grace, almost as if you respected their move to take you out of the game.

AB: When you feel like you put your best foot forward and do everything you can when the situation isn't going in your favor, there's no one to really be mad at. I don't think there's anything I would've done differently. I couldn't stand Joe. One of us had to go. I knew in that tribe, if it wasn't him it was gonna be me. I put my all into this game and had a lot more left in the tank, but I have no regrets. I learned that playing football. If you have a good game, put your all out there. If you lose, you can correct what you did. Just know you put it all out there. It didn't go my way, an Idol got played and an advantage was read. That's a lot in one Tribal. I was fine with saying, "OK. This is how they had to get me out." I'm content with that.

SK: What was it about Joe you didn't like?

AB: He was just annoying. Some people just talk too much. Between lies and contradictions, you start to get annoying. I think he was just annoying. It was his way to play the game, or maybe he's really annoying in real life. I don't know. I was annoyed, and I knew in that camp we couldn't go on much longer together.

SK: Do you have any hard feelings toward him now?

AB: No. I don't know if he's that annoying in real life. I don't have much to say to him, but I don't have any hard feelings toward him. Maybe he's a great guy in real life, or maybe he's that annoying. I probably won't find out. I left what was on the show on the show.

SK: Early this season, we saw you grow very suspicious about J.P. possibly having an Idol. Your concerns were so intense that J.P. actually stripped naked to prove he had nothing to hide. That being said, did you have the same fears that Joe had an Idol?

AB: We discussed it. I even said in the water, "If they have an Idol, I'm going home." But we were so far down the road with Joe having to go, that when we got to Tribal we were more stressing the fact he had to go home. You have to give Joe some credit because he caused enough chaos that I overlooked the fact he might have an Idol to get rid of me. That's pretty strong about how I felt about him [laughs.] Looking back, we definitely talked about it, but we overlooked it because he was that much of a problem.

SK: Going back to the strip search with J.P., did you genuinely believe he and Ashley had an Idol? Or was it something you were doing to be intimidating?

AB: [Laughs.] I believed they had something. Maybe a clue. Maybe anything. There was something between them that they were trying to keep secret. I couldn't confirm if it was an Idol or if they were a power couple, but once your feet are in the water, you might as well get all the way in. That's where I was at, and I had to be fully vested in it. I pulled all the punches out at that point. "Not only do you have an Idol, I think you guys are a power couple too." Let me just add as much fuel to the fire as I can to make all these suspicions that I have grow for everyone else. That was my goal with that whole thing. I never expected him to drop his drawers. I didn't ask him to drop his drawers. I was actually pretty shocked he dropped his drawers. That's what he felt he had to do to prove something. You can look at that how you want. Maybe he went too far to prove something, so what are you trying to hide?

SK: So even after he stripped naked, you still weren't convinced he didn't have anything to hide?

AB: No way. I still wasn't convinced. I still thought there was something I didn't know. To this day, I still believe there's something they're hiding. Maybe down in a further episode they'll show a past video of what they do have. I don't know. I'm still convinced they were keeping something a secret.

SK: Were you worried that your approach to suggesting J.P. had an Idol was possibly being viewed as too aggressive that early in the game?

AB: No. For me, I knew my position in our tribe. I knew to keep this tribe strong going forward it was too early for them to get rid of me. If I'm gonna pull anything and make any moves to solidify where I'm at, it was then. My efforts were more in getting aligned with Ben and Chrissy. I wanted to confirm and solidify our relationship as opposed to destroying anything with Ashley and J.P., which I wasn't worried about. I knew Katrina was leaving, and I knew if I could solidify myself with Chrissy and Ben, what Ashley and J.P. felt about me didn't matter. Did they have time to look at me as a wild card or explosive as a threat? Yeah, but I thought I had a lot more time on the back end to show Ben and Chrissy it was all game play. I'm actually very level-headed and make pretty good decisions. I did it early in the game to show I can be aggressive, but here's why.

SK: Had the tribal swap not taken place, who was the next target on the Heroes tribe?

AB: J.P. or Ashley. It was a toss-up between them. Me and Ben talked about the fact J.P. had to go. I think everybody who watches may see that J.P. is not offering much to the game [laughs.] We all saw that. He was good around camp, but in terms of the game he was not really a player. J.P. probably would have taken a tumble if another vote would've come up just among us.

SK: Of the remaining contestants, who do you think is the most underestimated?

AB: I think Chrissy. She is very strategic, and she's a good player. She's a thinker. She needs a crack to slip in. She can work from there. After Chrissy got past that first Tribal and now into the swap, I think she's pretty dangerous. I don't think anyone's going to look at her as a threat until she's already got the best of them. We'll see how it plays out, but I'm pulling for Chrissy. Ben is probably one of my favorites, but in terms of underrated, I think it's Chrissy.

SK: Did you reveal to anybody you had a career in the NFL?

AB: Not a chance [laughs.] It never came up. I think I did a good job of keeping that hidden. I thought it was going to come up once, but I moved it to the back burner with Joe. I did tell them I played Division I football, but I didn't give them any clues about what I did after. Desi looked at my arm, and she knows a lot in her profession about scars and surgeries. I did have surgery, and she looked at the scar on my arm while asking a ton of questions. So, I had to reveal something about that. I think that's how I let out the Division I football story. As far as the NFL level, no, I never let that out. I actually told everybody I was a personal trainer.

I just got done with football and how could I ever pass on the opportunity when so many people dream of being on that show?

SK: So you were approached by casting to be on Survivor?

AB: Yeah, somewhat in a sense. I applied for the show as well.

SK: Do you think your placement on the Heroes tribe was the right fit for you?

AB: I consider myself a hustler because I've worked a lot to get where I am in life. But I'm definitely aware that people outside, based on my profession, may view me as a hero. I don't think I measure up as a hero when I look at guys like Ben, who is a Marine, or J.P., who is a fireman. Ashley is a lifeguard. Those people save lives. I don't think I'm in that category in terms of saving lives, but I definitely try to reach as many people as I can. I was definitely honored to be put on that tribe, but initially I wrestled with the fact if I was really a hero compared to these guys. But I do think it was the right fit for me after we got going.

SK: Having played in the NFL, what is your take on the national anthem protests?

AB: The country that we live in, everybody has their opinion. I feel as everyone's opinion has to be respected. I also feel everyone's journey in life is different. Based upon your journey is what your perspective is. You get your perspective off the things you've seen and the things that you've been through. As people in this country, we should all be in a place where we can respect everyone's views no matter what they are. As long as they're not offending anyone, as long as they're not changing the way anyone lives or affecting anyone's lives. Your opinion is your opinion, and I think you should be entitled to that.

Easy Pop Culture Themes for Your Halloween Party

Tired of the green witches, carved pumpkins and sheets made to look like ghosts? Don't worry. Hollywood is coming to your rescue this Halloween. Instead of throwing a run-of-the-mill Halloween party this year, bring your favorite movies and television shows to life for one night. With so many fun and spooky pop-culture themes around us, planning a Halloween party has never been easier or more fun. From kid-friendly themes like Hocus Pocus or Nightmare Before Christmas to some scarier, just-for-adults Halloween parties with themes like American Horror Story and The Walking Dead, these ideas will spice up your Halloween-party game this year with a theme everyone can get into.

Be warned: People have been known to immediately begin planning a party after looking through these themes because they're sure to spur some creativity. Prepare your Pinterest board and plan out your budget accordingly (although we won't blame your for going overboard with excitement).

1. Stranger Things

Stranger Things Party Joyce Lights

With Season 2 of Stranger Things premiering on Netflix on Oct. 27, this is just about the hippest and most happening Halloween theme of the season. There are a couple of things that will make your Stranger Things Halloween party a success: tacky Christmas lights and Eggo waffles. Without those, you're doomed. Luckily, it's pretty inexpensive.

Of course, we also recommend you have someone wandering around the party dressed up like a Demogorgon. And of course, it wouldn't hurt if you added in a vintage '80s phone and an adorable character banner from the show.

2. American Horror Story

AHS Cult Halloween Party
Image: FX Networks

With seven seasons to its name — including Cult, which is currently airing — there is plenty of American Horror Story material to make your party a smash hit. Have a season in every room or blend them all together in the perfect horror mashup. You could start by creating a carnival photo booth inspired by Season 4 of the show to give your guests an eerie but fun entrance to the party. You can also add some belts to the chairs for an Asylum-themed flair.

For food, why not make a vampire-friendly cake that would impress The Countess (aka Lady Gaga, who starred in Season 5). Finally, if you're feeling especially spooky, preserve some fake organs to place around the house. This craft is admittedly a little more complicated and for the artist in the family, but the results are worthy of goose bumps.

3. Harry Potter

Harry Potter Halloween Party Ideas
Image: Warner Bros.

For the inner kid in all of us, Harry Potter is the magical Halloween theme everyone will love. Plus, with seven books and eight movies, there is so much material to work with that crafting and prepping for the party will be a breeze. Make wands using only paper, hot glue and some paint. Serve adult butterbeer with only three easy ingredients. You can even create a Platform 9 3/4 with this plastic brick backdrop.

Harry Potter Halloween Party

Worry not; there are dozens more ideas where that came from too. Turn beer pong into a game of Quidditch (you definitely don't even need the excuse of a themed party to have this one around the house). Hang floating candles from your ceiling to create a Great Hall in your own home. Set up a character photo booth with these printables. You can even have a Moaning Myrtle in your bathroom (again, you really don't even need the party excuse for this one).

4. The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead Halloween party ideas
Image: AMC

Though this theme is probably more suited for the adults given all the gore in the show, that just means it'll be a gory good time. There is plenty of party mischief to be had with The Walking Dead. Create a "Don't Open, Dead Inside" drape. Place it in front of high-traffic areas like the bathroom or even the front door so guests must, in fact, enter the danger zone. You can also use wax paper to make a bloody mess and cover windows around the house. Guests will feel like they're trapped inside while the dead lurk beyond.

The Walking Dead Halloween Party

This one is almost too much, but I'm pretty sure that's what makes it a Walking Dead party must-have. Serve food out of a corpse-shaped table display. All you need is the food and clothing to shape around it. If you want to give the form some added fluff, use grocery bags or old newspapers.

Oh, and don't forget the zombies. The more zombies you have lurking around the house the better.

5. Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus Halloween Party Ideas

Sure to delight partygoers young and old, you can't go wrong with a Hocus Pocus theme. To start, you can use a piece of wood to craft an easy "Come Little Children" sign, which can usher guests into the house. You can also make a black flame candle and place it in a prominent position at the party. You can even leave a lighter nearby so guests can take turns lighting it. Brownie points if there's a virgin in the group who can do the honors of reawakening the Sanderson sisters.

Put a spell on your guests with an "I Put A Spell on You" sign. You can even download the whole track to play at the party. Finally, use two broomsticks and a vacuum as entryway decor (Mary got the short end of that stick). After all, as Winnie Sanderson said, "We fly!"

6. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween party ideas

Finally, it's time for a Halloween classic: The Nightmare Before Christmas. If you choose this theme, then your party is sure to be an absolute hit. Use a black and white color scheme to create the look and definitely have the movie's soundtrack on hand to play throughout the night. "This is Halloween, everybody make a scene!"

Make a Zero the Ghost Dog chandelier with some simple items around the house, like a pillowcase and a wire hanger to make the ears. Also, if you're handy with some icing, cookies take on a whole new level of awesome when they have Jack's face painted on them.

Maybe the best decoration out of the bunch: Use burlap and glow-in-the-dark paint to create a scary Oogie Boogie. And if you wanna keep things extra spooky, there is even a Jack face free printout that would be the perfect addition to any door or wall.

Which pop culture Halloween theme is your favorite?

In the wake of the horrific allegations against Harvey Weinstein, it seems like each day brings new stories about sexual misconduct by some of the most powerful executives and actors in Hollywood. So when a story surfaces about a man in Hollywood doing the right thing in a situation that could have gone very wrong, it stands out. Such is the case with an account about David Schwimmer now being shared.

Film critic and corporate finance expert Nell Minow opened up to James Warren of Poynter.org about a particularly memorable non-incident she had with the 50-year-old actor and producer.

More: All of the Celebrities Who Have Accused Harvey Weinstein of Sexual Misconduct So Far

It happened in 2011, at the Phoenix Hotel in Washington, D.C., where Minow was asked to meet Schwimmer to discuss his film Trust.

Tragically, this set up sounds all too familiar — a woman asked to meet a powerful Hollywood man at a hotel under the guise of business. The subject matter of the film spoke to the topic of predatory behavior, too. Reportedly based on the real-life story of someone Schwimmer knew personally, Trust chronicled the account of a young girl who fell victim to an online abuser.

When Minow arrived for the meeting in the hotel's first floor restaurant, all seemed well enough. But when the hustle, bustle and chatter of the crowd started to hinder their interview, Schwimmer cautiously suggested they could move the interview up to his room.

Minow explained to Poynter that she didn't feel threatened at the time, but what Schwimmer did next solidified her peace of mind — he asked if she would like a third person in the room for the interview. According to Minow, the actor offered this up voluntarily and without hesitation.

"I haven't thought of that since it happened, but the Weinstein stories made me not just remember it but remember it in an entirely different context as an indicator of the prevalence of predatory behavior and as an indicator of Schwimmer's integrity and sensitivity," she said.

"This wasn't just about his being a good guy who would not have tried anything," Minow continued. "He understood what it is like to have to be constantly on the alert and he wanted to make sure I understood I was safe."

Ultimately, Minow and Schwimmer did move up to his room and the interview went off without a hitch. In hindsight, though, Minow understands that it could have been a very different story had she been meeting with one of the Harvey Weinsteins of the entertainment world.

It goes without saying that women shouldn't have to applaud men simply for not sexually harassing or assaulting women. Still, it's important to lift up stories about the good guys like Schwimmer to prove there is some hope for Hollywood after all.

Thanks for being such a stand-up human being, Schwimmer.

Jason Aldean & Keith Urban Are Making Tom Petty Fans Cry

You know how the old saying goes — you get by with a little help from your friends, and that's exactly what Jason Aldean had when he paid tribute to Tom Petty at the CMT Artists of the Year celebration on Wednesday.

The six-time Artist of the Year honoree took the stage to perform, and he picked a particularly poignant song choice for the evening: Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down."

Not only was the performance a nod to the late great rocker, but it also bears special significance for Aldean.

Explained fellow honoree Luke Bryan, "Jason gave a lot of thought about what he wanted to play on this show, and he kept coming back to a song from a hero of his, and many of ours here tonight. It's a song Jason played for years coming up in the clubs, and tonight some of his friends want to join him."

Aldean then launched into the powerful rendition of Petty's 1989 hit, alternating verses with fellow country music superstars Chris Stapleton and Keith Urban and getting backup from Little Big Town.

We're willing to wager there wasn't a dry eye in the house that night, either.

The song has become something of a mantra for Aldean as of late, who was headlining the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas on Oct. 1 when a gunman opened fire. Aldean and his crew made it to safety, but 59 people died and more than 500 were injured in the mass shooting.

Aldean played "I Won't Back Down" for the first time following the tragic event during a surprise Saturday Night Live performance earlier this month.

Prior to his encore performance of the inspiring track at the CMT Artists of the Year celebration in Nashville, Aldean explained the salience of the song choice to ET's Sophie Schillaci.

Said Aldean, "It is such a perfect song for everything that has been happening in the last couple months. The strength and fortitude of country fans is unbelievable. We wanted to acknowledge that, so tonight is really all about them."

Demi Lovato Lied About Her Sobriety While Promoting Sobriety

Although Demi Lovato often speaks candidly about her struggles, there was at least one point in her career she was less than forthcoming with fans — during her road to recovery, the pop star promoted sobriety while high on drugs.

The shocking revelation came via Lovato's new documentary, Simply Complicated, which premiered earlier this week on YouTube. The documentary, which takes place over a time span of seven months, explores Lovato's, well, complicated history with substance abuse.

In the documentary, Lovato divulges she first tried cocaine when she was only 17 and still working for the Disney Channel.

"I loved it. I felt out of control with the coke the first time that I did it," she said, admitting she ignored her mother's warnings that the drug could kill her. "My dad was an addict. I guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family."

According to John Taylor, the creative director of Lovato's management team, it was the Jonas Brothers who initially encouraged Lovato to get help after she punched a backup singer.

More: Demi Lovato Took Away All of Her Hacker's Power and Gave It Back to Herself

Lovato landed in rehab in 2010 — at the time, she was 18. Unfortunately, the pop star wasn't quite ready to make a change, though, admitting, "I wasn't working my program. I wasn't ready to get sober. I was sneaking it on planes, sneaking it in bathrooms, sneaking it through the night. Nobody knew."

At one point, Lovato even feared for her own life.

"I would sneak out and get drugs, I would take my drug tests with other people's pee," she said. "There was one night when I used a bunch of coke and I popped a few Xanax bars, and I began to choke a little bit. My heart started racing, and I thought to myself, 'Oh my God, I might be overdosing right now.'"

It took Demi's manager Phil McIntyre issuing a grand ultimatum for Lovato to realize how much she stood to lose by doing drugs.

"We were in New York and she was clearly on something, and she was on air promoting this new way of life, and I was like, 'You're so full of it,'" McIntyre recalled. "I worked with everyone on the team — business managers, agents, attorneys, everybody — to say, 'If Phil walks, we walk.' This was the showdown of all showdowns."

More: Demi Lovato Fights Back Amid Questions Surrounding Her Sexuality

And apparently it did the trick. Faced with losing her entire team, Lovato smashed her phone, thus severing her contact to any drug dealers. She then began the real road to recovery, calling that moment the "beginning of the process of surrendering."

Clearly, Simply Complicated lays Lovato's life bare. At only 78 minutes, it's a must-watch for fans of the now-clean and empowered pop star. Watch below!

What Is Twin-to-Twin Transfusion?

$

What can you expect when pregnant with twins? That seems to be the question most often asked when a mom-to-be finds out she’s expecting two babies instead of one. While concerns about getting enough rest or planning for extra doctor’s appointments top the list, many pregnant people also wonder about complications such as premature birth, which can be related to a multiples pregnancy. But for women pregnant with identical twins, the concerns can be more serious — especially when faced with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

What is twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome?

Often referred to as a disease of the mother’s placenta, twin-to-twin transfusion is a rare but serious condition that can occur while pregnant with identical twins who share a placenta. The shared placenta contains abnormal blood vessels, which connect the umbilical cords and circulation of the twins. In TTTS, the blood flow between the twins becomes unbalanced: One twin donates blood to the other twin, which results in the donor twin having too little blood and the recipient twin having too much blood.

More: Just Because Someone Has Boy-Girl Twins Doesn't Mean They're "Done"

What causes twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome?

First off, the mother does not cause TTTS, nor is there anything you can do to prevent this condition. It is a random event that cannot be prevented. And as far as the prevalence of TTTS, it occurs in about 10 to 15 percent of monochorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancies (a pregnancy where the identical twins share the same placenta but have different amniotic sacs).

What is twin-to-twin transfusion

How is twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome diagnosed?

The best tool for diagnosis of TTTS is an early ultrasound. Before diagnosis, though, the mom-to-be may experience rapid uterine growth, premature contractions and shortness of breath. If these symptoms occur, contact your physician immediately.

Dr. Robert A. Welch, an OB-GYN at the Detroit Medical Center says that in general, twins are thought to be growing at the same rate if their estimated fetal weights by ultrasound are within 20 percent of each other (concordant growth). Welch says the obstetrician may recognize a problem like TTTS with monochorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancies when their growth becomes discordant, or the amount of fluid surrounding each fetus becomes uneven.

“Since both fetuses are sharing the same placenta, one begins to dominate the circulation and actually pumps its blood more to the other twin. The 'pump,' or donor twin, becomes smaller with decreased amniotic fluid around it — known as a 'stuck' twin — while the recipient twin becomes much larger,” he explains.

What does this mean for your pregnancy?

The severity of TTTS is partially based on the stage of pregnancy at which the condition becomes evident (the earlier it presents, the more serious it is). In the past, a TTTS pregnancy usually claimed the lives of both babies. But now, with the use of technology and early ultrasounds, the odds of survival are much higher.

MoreKnowing When to Draw the Line on Fertility Treatments

As far as treatment, Welch says there has been varying success. Previously, obstetricians have used serial amniotic fluid drainage to try to rebalance the fluid around each twin with limited success. “More recently, though, several fetal therapy centers are using a fetoscopic laser to coagulate the blood vessel connections within the shared placenta,” he explains. This approach has proven successful in select cases.

Welch also points out that if the twins share the same placenta, most obstetricians are now doing ultrasounds every two weeks after 16 weeks of pregnancy to evaluate growth and the risk of TTTS. He says that most twins with TTTS are delivered early after medications are administered to try to stimulate fetal lung development.

What happens after birth?

If the TTTS is mild, both babies often recover fully. However, severe cases may result in the death of a twin. And while there can be health concerns due to being delivered prematurely or from the effects of TTTS inside the womb, if managed properly, TTTS can result in a positive outcome for most patients.

MoreMy Male Partner Won't Agree to a Sperm Analysis — Now What?

The treatment plan the physician sets up for the babies after birth ultimately depends on the infant's symptoms. For example, the donor twin may need a blood transfusion to treat anemia, while the recipient twin may need to have the volume of body fluid reduced. The recipient twin may also need to take medicine to prevent heart failure. And just like any other baby born prematurely, TTTS babies are susceptible to the various complications of an early delivery.

When you find out you are pregnant with twins, your doctor will work with you to monitor the babies' growth and ensure they are as healthy as possible.

10 Ways Olivia Pope Has Changed Since Scandal Season 1

Now that the final season of Scandal is underway, we need to talk about how Olivia Pope has changed since Season 1.

She's probably the one character who's transformed the most. When the Shonda Rhimes drama began in 2012, there's no denying Olivia was in a power position, but she's worked her way up the ladder even more ever since. She's embraced her powerful abilities and is now Mellie's chief of staff. Fans probably never thought they'd see that day come, but, well, here we are.

More: Everything We Know About Scandal Season 7

The people Olivia's encountered along the way, like Jake Ballard and her unique relationship with her father, Papa Pope, has pushed her to become somewhat of a different person compared to the woman fans remember when the series first began. Or maybe this is who Olivia has truly been all along, and she is finally embracing her true self.

Whatever the case, Olivia isn't the same Olivia viewers remember in Episode 1.

1. The white hat isn't as bright anymore

All the ways Olivia Pope has change since Season 1 of Scandal

Throughout Season 1, both Olivia and David bragged about their white hats (a symbol of goodness). Nowadays, no one really wears a white hat. Yes, Olivia is still a heroic figure and is good deep down, but her white hat is a little dingier these days — and even has some bloodstains on it.

2. She’s embraced the power she’s always sought

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Season 1 of Scandal
Image: Giphy

Over the past couple of seasons, Olivia's need for power has shone through. She hasn't hidden the fact that she likes it, either. The feeling of having so much power and control, not just in the White House, but over the entire free world, is something she's welcomed with open arms. In the Season 6 finale, Cyrus asked Olivia, "How's it feel to be the most powerful person in the world?" She responded, "Right. It feels right."

3. She’s no longer at OPA, which isn't actually OPA anymore

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

At the start of Scandal, Olivia Pope & Associates was the biggest and baddest company, going around fixing problems for high-profile people. It's also what sucked fans into the show, watching Olivia and her gladiators pulling off the unthinkable. Now? It's no longer OPA and Olivia has nothing to do with it. Quinn is the boss and it is now Quinn Perkins & Associates.

4. She’s a murderer

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

Fans probably never thought they'd watch Olivia Pope turn into a killer. That's exactly what happened in Season 5 when she beat Andrew to death with a chair. Let's not forget she also pushed Luna Vargas to take her own life, so, yeah, Olivia's white hat days are very far behind her.

5. She’s no longer blinded by love

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

The early days of Scandal heavily revolved around Olivia's love life, especially with Fitz. Then Jake came into the picture and that shifted things even more for her in the romance department. Just because Olivia and Fitz aren't together at the moment doesn't mean they don't love each other or will never reunite as a couple, but Olivia's sole focus these days is as the "most powerful person in the world." In a sense, she has blinders on and avoids any type of romantic commitment so she can get the job done.

6. She works with Mellie — & they're basically friends

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

Since day one, Olivia and Mellie were not friends and didn't like one another. After all, Olivia was Fitz's mistress and contributed to the downfall of Mellie and Fitz's marriage. Who would have ever thought that Mellie and Olivia would be partners in crime working alongside each other? Not only did Olivia run Mellie's presidential campaign (just like she did Fitz's), but she is now her chief of staff. Oh, and they're actually kind of friends.

7. Everyone knows she was Fitz's mistress

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

Their affair was a major secret both Fitz and Olivia worked extremely hard to keep, but that all changed when it came out in the open. Specifically, at the beginning of Season 5 after reporters asked her if she was the president's mistress, she bluntly answered, "Yes."

8. She's more like her father than ever before

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

At first, Olivia disagreed with the monster her father is and tried not to become him. That didn't work out too well. She has a lot in common with him. She loves power, she's a killer and she manipulates others to get what she wants to name a few of the qualities she shares with Eli. In the Season 7 premiere, Eli even admitted it. He said to Olivia, "You are like looking into the window of my past. You are me, no matter how much I try all I could create was me."

9. She learned her mother's true character

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

During the early days of the drama, Olivia believed her mother to be dead — and to be a decent human being. That all changed after Olivia learned that her mother, Maya Lewis, was not only alive and well, but also a terrorist. It's something that has definitely affected her too.

10. She's Command

All the ways Olivia Pope has changed since Scandal Season 1
Image: Giphy

This shows how much Olivia really has changed. She fought to put an end to B613 and managed to do just that. However, she flipped a switch in the Season 6 finale and reinstated the covert government organization that does very bad things and became Command in the process. That's right. Olivia is now Command. How is this even possible? Like she told her father, aka the former Command, in the Season 7 premiere, "Dad, it's my turn. I'm changing the rules. This, what I'm doing, is better."

It'll be interesting to see where Olivia ends up by the series finale and if she'll change even more than she already has.

Playboy Makes History With First Transgender Playmate

You probably don't equate Playboy magazine with gender equality, but the magazine is making an effort to rebrand itself and be more inclusive of all gender identities. The first step? Featuring French model Ines Rau as the first transgender Playmate ever in Playboy magazine.

Featured in the November issue and photographed by Derek Kettela, this isn’t the first time Rau has posed for the magazine, but it is her first time as the centerfold. She also posed in a May 2014 issue. “It’s how I celebrated my coming out, actually,” she told the magazine. “I took that chance, and then I signed with an agency.”

Playboy has featured other transgender models in the past. Brazilian model Roberta Close posed for the Brazilian edition of the magazine 1984. And in 1981, Caroline "Tula" Cossey, a transgender English model, modeled for the magazine's James Bond pictorial, "For Your Eyes Only".

Playboy still has a long way to go in terms of empowering women, but we could not be happier to see transgender women being celebrated in the mainstream media.

Why You Shouldn't Baby the Baby of the Family

$

When my youngest child was 4 years old, I met with his preschool teacher to discuss his development. She said he was a sweet little boy but had trouble sharing with his classmates. “When another student is playing with a toy he wants, he’ll say, ‘I’m the baby. Give it to the baby’ and grab the toy out of the other child’s hand," the teacher explained. "I have to remind him that everyone here is a baby, and that he needs to wait his turn.”

I immediately understood why this was happening. My son was much younger than his two sisters, ages 12 and 9. Because of the significant age difference, I would often ask my daughters to please just, “Give it to the baby” when the three of them argued over games, treats, TV programs, etc. It seemed simpler to let him have what he wanted, especially if I was in the middle of making dinner or on my way out the door. But the teacher’s comment made me realize that we were indulging my son way too much.

More: How to Deal With Aggression in Kids

Why we baby the baby

Many parents like me tend to baby the baby of the family for many reasons. For one, each step your last child takes toward independence can feel bittersweet when you know you'll never have a baby around again. Parents (and even siblings) may continue to do things for the youngest child — such as carry him when he can walk or feed him a bottle rather than have him hold it himself — because they enjoy the role of caretaker and are sad to see each stage of childhood end.

Sometimes, on the other hand, the youngest child is overindulged because parents are tired of the parenting role. Dr. David Bredehoft, psychologist and co-author of the book How Much is Too Much? Raising Likeable, Responsible, Respectful Children — from Toddlers to Teens — in an Age of Overindulgence, explains it this way: “Let’s say the baby is the third or fourth child. The parents are outnumbered and often worn out at this point. The parents just give in because it is easier than being the bad guy that is always enforcing the rules. They wind up treating the youngest child more like a friend than a child. Friend is a very different role than parent.”

Another reason the youngest child may be babied is simply because his family has a hectic life. Child psychologist Dr. Eileen Kennedy-Moore explains, “Multiple children means parents are very busy juggling many tasks at once. It takes less effort for parents and siblings to do things for the youngest child rather than to spend the time encouraging and teaching this child to do these tasks. For example, when you're rushing an older sibling to soccer practice, it's faster put the coat and shoes on the little one rather than to wait for him to do it for himself.” Essentially, the youngest child in a busy family is akin to that intern at your office — you know, the one you keep avoiding delegating tasks to because it's more work to train them than to just make the spreadsheet yourself.

More: What to Do When Your Child is "Dumped" by a Friend

Why it’s a bad practice

Bredehoft says, “If you give a sweet treat or an iPhone to a child to play with to quiet him down, you are rewarding the wrong thing. You are teaching the child to throw a tantrum to get what he wants.” As the child gets older, this behavior will likely continue to have an adverse impact. “An overindulged child can grow up into an adult who has a temper and who always needs to get his way," Bredehoft warns.

Older children can also be negatively affected by parents babying their sibling; if parents constantly favor and overindulge the youngest child, the older ones can grow jealous and resentful. Bredehoft says, “All children, not just the youngest, need attention from their parents. Giving children attention when you catch them being good (positive reinforcement) encourages children to engage in appropriate behavior.”

Whether you are parenting your first child or your fifth, Bredehoft advises parents to concentrate on being in the role of parent rather than the role of friend. His advice is something of a tongue twister but undeniably true: “If a parent is a friend, it is very difficult to parent when your child needs a parent the most.” All those un-fun parenting responsibilities — such as enforcing rules and assigning age-appropriate responsibilities at home — help children become independent and get along with others in the real world. Being their best buddy does not.

Older siblings can be a positive influence

Many older children relish having a younger child look up to them, and the older sibling's role can be a big help to parents who feel pulled in many directions. Rather than asking older children to give in to the youngest or do things for her, encourage them to teach their sibling. Younger kids can become more confident by learning to do things on their own — such as tying their own shoes or cutting their food. Of course, don’t force an older child to take on the responsibility of teaching these skills if they're not interested (it’s still a parent’s job to parent), but do praise them when and if they act as positive role models for their younger siblings.

As for playing together, competitive games may not be the best choice when there is a wide age/development difference between children. Instead, cooperative play — such as building with Legos or coloring — can be fun ways to interact. Kennedy-Moore says, “Kids vs. grown-ups-type games can also be a good way to build sibling closeness.”

More: Is My Eldest Daughter Eclipsing Her Sister?

While parents may mean well when they baby their baby, everyone has to grow up eventually. Says Kennedy-Moore, “Kids start growing up and away from their parents from the time they are 1 month old. But each stage also brings new ways of connecting with our kids. Little kids are cute, but bigger kids are more interesting because they bring more ideas, abilities and experiences to the relationship.”

8 Amazing Natural Skin Care Tips

$

When it comes to our skin, sometimes the best approach is to keep things simple. We all have our favorite skin care products, but there's a lot we can do to supplement our daily routine and ensure that our skin stays in great condition.

Here are some amazing natural skin care tips from the experts.

1. Embrace essential oils

Peggy O’Kelley, CEO and founder of Napa Valley Bath Company, is an advocate of essential oils in everyday skin care. “Essential oils have been distilled from the plant kingdom since ancient times,” she says. “They have long been valued for their medicinal, spiritual and therapeutic value. Made up of tiny molecules that are easily absorbed into the body, they have been shown to enhance positive emotional and mental states as well as increase the body’s ability to heal.” For an uplifting facial scrub, O’Kelley mixes 1 cup of coconut oil with half a cup of sugar, adds 6 to 8 drops of blood orange essential oil, and stirs. “Massage face with the scrub in a circular upward motion. Rinse thoroughly and breathe deep!” she says.

2. Make your own face mask

Celebrity facialist Ildi Pekar, who counts Miranda Kerr and Irina Shayk among her clients, recommends a parsley mask to help reduce redness, deliver hydration and boost skin radiance. Pekar mixes a handful of chopped parsley with 2 teaspoons of organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar and 3 teaspoons of organic plain yogurt, applies this to the skin and leaves it for 15 minutes. “Parsley contains an impressive amount of vitamin K which will reduce redness and promote a plump and healthy glow. Just 2 tablespoons of parsley contains 153% of the recommended daily amount of Vitamin K,” she says.

3. Overhaul your diet

What you put into your body is just as important for your skin as the products you put on it. “Reduce your intake of sugar, hydrogenated oils, sodium and synthetic flavorings where possible,” advises Ben Johnson, MD, founder of the holistic beauty brand Osmosis Skincare. "Inflammation, even internally, stimulates oil production and leads to acne. Acne is a detox reaction that has little to do with bacteria or oiliness. It is poor digestion linked to what we eat and hormonal imbalances internally, not topical bacteria as we might think." Johnson also recommends buying organic foods whenever possible, because the added growth hormones in our meat and dairy can end up in our bodies and result in hormone shifts, which can, in turn, contribute to acne.

4. Try acupuncture

Dr. Elizabeth Trattner is an advocate of acupuncture, one of the oldest beauty rituals in the world. "For 5,000 years, empresses and Chinese women have been using facial acupuncture for beautification and rejuvenation," says Trattner. "Acupuncture can smooth out wrinkles and bring circulation to the face and neck. It can also treat the underlying conditions that can lead to acne and dull, dry or slack skin."

5. Use konjac sponges

A gentle way to exfoliate your skin is with a konjac sponge, made from fibers of the root of the Asian konjac (“konnyaku”) plant. "The sponges may be used with plain water, or combined with a small amount of any facial cleanser," says David Lortscher, MD, board-certified dermatologist and founder of Curology. "They have a mild exfoliating effect, without being too harsh on the skin." Some konjac sponges are infused with other ingredients, such as green tea, charcoal or clay.

6. Keep your environment clean

External environments are important for your skin's health as well. "Everything that is put onto your skin is absorbed directly into the body and into the bloodstream," says Rebecca Lee, a registered nurse and founder of natural health resource RemediesForMe.com. Lee recommends cleaning pillowcases and sheets regularly to get rid of dead skin cells and oils. "Contact between your skin and your dirty pillowcases can irritate your gentle skin and clog pores," she explains.

7. Stock up on honey

Honey can give you smoother and cleaner skin — in more ways than one. Lee recommends incorporating raw, organic honey into your diet by using it to sweeten your tea or adding it to your salad dressing. You can also apply honey directly to your skin to soothe and moisturize. "Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse it off with warm water," she says.

8. Stop touching your face

Every expert we spoke to agreed that one of the best things you can do for your skin is actually something you should stop doing: touching it. Itching, rubbing and picking at your face is not good for your skin. "Your fingernails can spread infections from your pimples to other parts of your face," warns Lee. "Picking can also lead to scarring and dark spots."

She's in good company: Mayim Bialik, Alicia Silverstone, Kailyn Lowry, Gaby Hoffmann and Kourtney and Kim Kardashian have all ingested the placentas they so lovingly grew in their wombs. What are the benefits? Well, according to Kim Kardashian, who raved about placenta pills on her blog in December 2015, “Every time I take a pill, I feel a surge of energy and feel really healthy and good. I totally recommend it for anyone considering it.”

But guess what. There are no proven benefits to placenta ingestion, and many doctors warn against it.

Still, to each her own. Reed is living the new-mom life to the fullest, it seems. Last week, she toted her breast pump to Variety's Power of Women Luncheon in Los Angeles and showed off the apparatus on Instagram.

“On my way to present at @variety ‘s #powerofwomen luncheon and this is my hot date. Kidding. I have another hot date. But this thing is definitely our third wheel,” she captioned the funny pic.

Reed and husband/hot date, actor Ian Somerhalder, welcomed daughter Bodhi Soleil in late summer. “We’ll take the baby’s first month for ourselves. After the baby arrives, we’re doing one month of silence. Just the three of us, no visitors, and we’re turning off our phones too, so there’s no expectation for us to communicate," Reed told Fit Pregnancy before the newborn's arrival.

Except not so much. New parents are cute that way. The two broke their self-imposed silence with gushy tribute posts on Instagram pretty quickly after Bodhi arrived. Oops. It's OK; we understand. Babies scramble your brain — placenta pills certainly can't help with that.

“But you have your daddy and your brothers,” his mom reassures him.

“I don’t need no brothers and no dad. I need you!” Bryce says in no uncertain terms.

Commenters fell in love with Bryce, as did we.

"Such an adorable and handsome little man!! you did a great job, he needs you and we need more little boys and mothers like you in this world, who teach and share."

"I love this video! It brings me so much joy. Nothing like his Mami! Forget everyone else... they're irrelevant!"

Bryce's sister arrived safely, according to his mom's Instagram, and everyone was soon reunited. Mom even posted a shot of Bryce doing his "yogurt" cross-legged on the floor, presumably trying to keep his cool in the middle of his growing family.

If you live and breathe all things royal family, you now have a chance to get even closer to the action. It appears Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton, are hiring. That's right; score this gig and you can spend all day every day at Kensington Palace staring at Prince Harry, playing with the queen's pups or just obsessing over Kate's hair.

The job, which appears to be temporary, is for a senior communications officer who will be working “both reactively and proactively to manage the daily news flow to the media, [and] communicating with audiences via traditional, digital and social media.”

To apply for this position, you should have communications experience, the appropriate degree or qualifications and “the ability to handle sensitive information with tact and discretion at all times.” The job also appears to be one covering for someone else who will take it back because it's listed as a “maternity cover” position. But hey, even if it's short-term, what could possibly look better on your CV?

The final requirement: You must be eligible to work in the U.K. So if that’s you (we're super-jealous of you, by the way) you can apply online until Oct. 26.

"Chemo #2: finito. We are NOT fucking around here," Louis-Dreyfus posted before launching into lyrics from Perry's anthemic 2013 hit "Roar," quoting, "I've got the eye of the tiger. The Fighter dancing through the fire cuz I am a champion and you're going to hear me ROAR."

In addition to Perry, Louis-Dreyfus thanked her Veep co-stars Tony Hale and Timothy Simons for "their hilarious and loving inspiration." What that inspiration is, she did not elucidate, but we can only imagine how uplifting they must be on set.

The post marks Louis-Dreyfus' triumphant return following a brief absence from social media after news broke of her breast cancer diagnosis.

Louis-Dreyfus — who reportedly found out the day after her historic Emmy win — shared the news on her official Twitter account in late September. "1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one," she said, adding, "The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union."

In that initial post, the star called for universal healthcare, pointing out that "not all women are so lucky" to have the kind of insurance coverage she does.

And this much is clear: Louis-Dreyfus is a fighter. It seems like a foregone conclusion that she will not only beat this cancer but also work tirelessly to ensure that universal healthcare inches closer to becoming reality in the near future.

Are Scarlett Johansson & Bobby Flay Dating?

Scarlett Johansson and Bobby Flay were photographed leaving a New York City restaurant together this week, leading to speculation that the pair could be cooking up a romance.

Let us set the scene for you.

It's an otherwise unassuming Sunday evening when a man and a woman emerge from Manhattan's Sushi Nakazawa in the West Village. They seem to be in good spirits (Us Weekly reports they were "all smiles"). From the outside looking in, it would be easy to believe that the pair shared a romantic connection.

Only this isn't just any old couple — this duo is comprised of 32-year-old Johansson and 52-year-old Flay. And, according to her rep, the pair remains platonic. "They are friends as well as neighbors," said the rep. Additionally, an insider told Us Weekly, "They just looked like friends and nothing really romantic going on at all."

And, hey, it's entirely in the realm of possibility that a man and a woman can share a purely platonic meal together, right? Of course, it's also within the realm of possibility that Johansson's rep is downplaying what could very well be the beginning stages of something decidedly less platonic.

The timing is right, given that both are currently single.

In September, Johansson finalized her divorce from French journalist Romain Dauriac, with whom she shares a 3-year-old daughter. Flay's divorce from actress Stephanie March is much less recent, having been finalized in 2015.
