21 Types of Boobs That Are All Beautiful In Their Own Way

$

The biological function of breasts is to feed babies and give life, but somewhere along the way, our boobies became so much more. For better or for worse, our bazoombas are a part of us — and we're not afraid to wear our love for them on our sleeve (or, rather, or chest).

Maybe you're thinking that breasts are breasts are breasts. They're round(ish), stuck to the front of our bodies and pretty darn useful for a variety of life skills. Well, you'd be wrong according to lingerie company ThirdLove, at least when it comes to their shape. They've identified seven breast shapes: round, east west, side set, tear drop, slender, asymmetric and bell shape. Along with your size, each shape supposedly dictates the type of bra you should wear. As if bra fitting isn't confusing enough already!

More: Get Ready, Because We're About to Drop the ‘Breast’ Facts Ever

But then I got to thinking: Why stop at just seven shapes? My boobs have been more than seven shapes during my lifetime. They're like the ultimate shape-shifters, and according to my girlfriends, their mammaries are pretty magical, too. So in honor of all the things our breasts go through for us, here are 21 real breast shapes.

1. Prepubescent boobs

Image: Giphy

They're mostly flat but poke out just enough to be embarrassing in T-shirts. Can we even call these breasts yet? All I know is that I started wearing a training bra light-years before I ever needed one, yet it made me feel super proud of being a (budding) woman.

2. PMS boobs

Image: Giphy

Painful, tender and sore are the trifecta of boobness for every girl whose breasts go through a monthly cycle just like her vagina. If I've learned one thing in my life, it's that hormones can do a real number on your chest. The other telltale sign of PMS breasts: cookie crumbs or ice-cream drips in your cleavage. It's cool; you're just storing them for later.

3. Pregnancy boobs

Image: Giphy

The No. 1 way I knew I was pregnant was sore breasts. From the moment the stick turned pink, my boobs took on a life of their own and grew to a size and shape I'd never known they were capable of before. Although I missed the ease of my tiny pre-pregnancy boobies, I did enjoy having cleavage for the first time in my life. As long as no one touched them.

4. Nursing boobs

Image: Giphy

Nursing breasts are a force to be reckoned with. Their ability to sustain a whole human life never ceases to amaze me. But if you thought pregnancy boobs were weird, then nursing is like having your breasts possessed by aliens. Not only are they filled — bursting — with liquid, but said liquid also randomly squirts out at the most inopportune times. Also, veins like whoa.

5. Post-nursing boobs

Once the milk is gone, your glorious, functional nursing boobs become sad, deflated balloons. That is if balloons had random chunks of sand in them. Some women keep their larger pregnancy breasts, but others end up smaller than they started. Either way, it's hard not to want to hug them for all the tireless service they provided. Even if they do now look like rocks in socks.

6. Post-marathon boobs

Running 26.2 miles is not easy on your body. And your ta-tas take almost the same amount of abuse as your tootsies. Thanks to miles of bouncing, cleavage sweat and chafing sports bras, by the time you're done, all they'll want to do is snuggle in pajamas. Your legs will like that option, too.

7. Bodybuilding boobs

Image: Giphy

It's totally true that you can't make your boobs bigger through weightlifting. (Believe me, I've tried.) But you can strengthen the pectoral muscles underneath, which can lift those puppies back up to perkier form! Be careful, though. If you drop too much body fat, then you'll lose your boobs altogether. Which brings me to...

8. Weight-loss boobs

Two words: melting candle. Losing weight is a huge accomplishment, but for many women, the way they lose weight may feel a little fraught, especially if they are one of the many who lose fat from their breasts first. Post-weight-loss breasts can look less full and even have loose skin. But before you despair, recognize that your boobs are just evidence of your hard work and dedication, and they've been with you every step of the way.

9. Weight-gain boobs

Gaining weight, whether through puberty, pregnancy or just life, can really boost your bust. Every woman gains weight differently, but often gaining a few pounds on the scale gives you a few more curves up top.

10. Aging boobs

Image: Giphy

Faces, hands and waistlines often get the most attention as women age, but getting older can mean big changes for breasts as well. Not only do they sag and wrinkle, but also they can show age spots. And although it's perfectly OK to miss your breasts in their glory days, try to see your aging girls as more evidence of a life well lived!

11. Post-breast cancer boobs

Every breast cancer survivor is different, and so are their feelings about their breasts. But one thing is for sure: You'll never look at your breasts the same way again. Whether you have scars from a lumpectomy or a mastectomy or your skin has changed from chemotherapy or your medications have made them change size, it means developing a whole new relationship — not a worse one, just a different one.

More: Why As a Survivor, I Hate Breast Cancer Awareness Month

12. Mastectomy boobs

Not every woman with breast cancer will need a mastectomy (and not every woman who gets a mastectomy has cancer), but for those who do, it can be life changing. Some women worry that not having their breasts, or not having breasts at all, will make them somehow less feminine. Yet others feel liberated from the fear and the disease. Some women celebrate their battle scars with tattoos while others use reconstructive surgery to get the boobs of their dreams. Just know that however you change your breasts, and however they change you, is the right way.

13. Comfort boobs

Image: Giphy

Babies, children, lovers and even friends seek solace in a woman's chest. And breasts can be so, so comforting. It's hard to talk about without the conversation veering to the sexual, but women have been using a tight hug, a cuddle and a soft embrace as a way to help soothe those they love for as long as there have been women. There's nothing wrong — and I'd say everything right — with using your pillows as, well, a pillow.

14. Silicone boobs

Some women are naturally blessed with a perfect bust while others chose to pay for theirs. And when it comes to your body, there is no wrong path to self-love.

15. Padded boobs

Image: Giphy

Girls get made fun of for wearing padded bras, but the truth is they're an awesome compromise. You can put one on to look sexy or simply more proportional in clothing, and then you get to take it off and be free at night. Plus, no back pain like you'd get if your boobs were naturally larger or surgically enhanced. Best of both worlds!

16. Minimized boobs

Squashing boobs down to exercise, to fit in a button-down shirt or to play a boy in the musical Oliver! (just me?) is a time-honored tradition. Sometimes you want to flaunt what you've got, and other times it helps to make them as flat as possible. As long as you can still breathe, you're probably fine.

17. Sweaty boobs

Nothing like wearing a gray T-shirt in the summertime and seeing two damp circles spreading under... your breasts. Boobs, especially when you smash them together in a sports bra or a push-up bra, can generate an astonishing amount of sweat.

18. Porn boobs

They don't all look like this — the way they move or the way they react — but they are a thing. And as porn becomes mainstream, more and more women (or their partners) think there's something wrong if their ta-tas don't match up with the ones on the screen. But know this: Your boobs are great exactly the way they are. Anyone who gets to touch them should consider themselves darn lucky. Period.

19. Venus boobs

Have you ever looked at a statue of the Venus de Milo and wondered how she was the standard of beauty for so many centuries? Thanks to our modern technology such as shaping bras, Photoshop and the Internet, I think we sometimes forget what real breasts, just hanging out and doing their thing, really look like. And if it takes a stone set of knockers to teach us about our flesh-and-blood set, then we should all look at more art. (Actually, we should all just look at more art.)

20. Hairy boobs

Image: Giphy

Yep, hairy nipples exist, and they're not even weird. About one-third of women admits to having a few nip pubes (and who knows how many have them and don't admit it).

21. Sex boobs

I put this at the bottom of the list because we're already well aware that our breasts are sex objects. But it is also true that sex can make your boobs look, well, sexy. All the blood and hormones can help them temporarily perk up, become more sensitive and even enhance their coloring. This may be one of the best perks of having breasts!

A Handy Dandy Guide to Help You Finally Figure Out Which Body Shape You Are

$

If, like us, you grew up reading all the fashion advice in Cosmo about what kind of bathing suits to wear to flatter your body, you know the struggle to actually figure out which prescribed body shape category you fall into is real. Am I an apple or a pear? An hourglass or an inverted triangle? It all kinda sounds like a load of BS, but in reality, there are advantages to knowing what body shape you should dress for.

Celebrity stylist Corey Roché offers the simplest explanations for each body shape so you can finally figure out what all of this means — as well as 10 wardrobe essentials for each shape.

More: How to Shop for Petite Clothes: Expert Tips That Work

Apple shape

Apple shape
Image: Karen Cox/SheKnows

Celebrity apple shapes: Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tyra Banks

How to tell if you're an apple: "Your shoulders and hips are around the same size," Roché says. "Apple-shaped ladies have little difference between the measurements of their chest, waist and hips.. You as an apple-shaped girl have chest and waist measurements that are fairly close, but your hips are about six inches smaller than your chest."

Apple body shape traits:

  • Hips and shoulders have the same width; waistline has the same width or is wider.

  • You gain weight mainly around the waist, at least in proportion to the other parts of your body.

  • You probably have slender lower legs and arms.

  • Your high hip is wider than your lower hip.
  • Your bust and/or midriff are larger than your hips.
  • You might be short-waisted.

  • Your thighs or hips are probably the narrowest part of your body.

Pear shape

Pear shape
Image: Karen Cox/SheKnows

Celebrity pear shapes: Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Kelly Clarkson

How to tell if you're a pear: "Your hips are wider than your shoulders," Roché says, "They are also wider than your bust, making them the widest area of your body. In numbers, your hip measurement is more than five percent bigger than your shoulder or bust measurements. With a pear figure, one of your best assets is you slim midriff, which many women envy you for. Make sure to show off your killer waist and balance your wider lower half. These basic items should be the foundation of a great wardrobe."

Pear body shape traits:

  • Your hips are wider than your shoulders.

  • You have round, sloping shoulders.

  • You have a well-defined waistline (and might even have killer abs).

  • Your buttocks and thighs are full and round.

  • Pear body shapes gain weight on their thighs.

Hourglass shape

Hourglass shape

Celebrity hourglass shapes: Kim Kardashian, Dita Von Teese, Eva Longoria

How to tell if you're an hourglass: "Your shoulders and hips are around the same size," Roché says. "Your waistline is significantly smaller. The rule of thumb here is about 75 percent: Your shoulder and hip measurements are within five percent of each other. Your waist is at least 25 percent smaller than your shoulder, hip and bust measurements. Your waist is eight to 12 inches smaller than your hip or bust measurement."

Hourglass body shape traits:

  • Your hips and shoulders have about the same width.

  • You have round and sloping shoulders.

  • You have a well-defined waistline.

  • Did we mention cleavage?
  • You buttocks are rather round.

  • Your lower hips are wider than your high hips.

  • Your thighs are full but narrower than the lower hips.

  • Hourglass body shapes gain weight through the hips and above the waist.

Celebrity rectangles: Anne Hathaway, Queen Latifah, Cameron Diaz

How to tell if you're a rectangle: "Rectangles have a very athletic frame," Roché says. "That allows them to wear boyish clothes as well as a wide range of feminine ones. Your shoulders, waistline, bust and hips are around the same size. Your shoulder, bust and hip measurements are within five percent of each other. Your waist is less than 25 percent smaller than your shoulder or bust measurements. Waist measures from one to eight inches (2.5 cm – 20 cm) smaller than the bust."

Rectangle body shape traits:

  • Your hips, waistline and shoulders have about the same width.
  • Rectangles gain weight evenly, but may gain some more through the upper back or neck.
  • You have rather straight shoulders.
  • Your buttocks are flat.
  • You have an athletic build and a small bustline.

Inverted triangle shape

Celebrities with inverted triangle body shapes: Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore, Renée Zellweger, Miley Cyrus

How to tell if you're an inverted triangle: "Your shoulders are wider than your hips," Roché says. "They are the widest part of your body. Your shoulders are more than five percent bigger than your hip measurement."

Inverted body shape traits:

  • You have prominent and broad straight shoulders — wider than your waistline or hips.
  • You have an athletic build.

  • You probably have rather flat buttocks.

  • You might have a larger chest and fuller back than rectangles.

  • When inverted triangles gain weight, they usually gain it through the torso and back area.

Kerry Washington's New TV Show Will Be Nothing Like Scandal

As Scandal rolls toward what will most likely be an intensely dramatic series finale at the end of Season 7 and the future looks unknown for many of the show's stars, there's at least one actor whose work is taking them in a different and thoroughly exciting direction. After seven seasons of playing Olivia Pope, actor Kerry Washington is trading her white hat on Scandal for a producer's hat.

More: 12 Television Relationships We Could Never Get Behind

Announced in Variety on Tuesday, we've learned that Washington will serve as a producer on Five Points, a drama that will air on Facebook's (yes, Facebook) new platform for original shows, Watch. As Facebook looks to move into said original programming — a place we might not have thought Facebook would move into in years past — this will no doubt mean that Washington is involving herself in something truly unique.

Five Points will be "set on the South Side of Chicago and takes a look at high school students from five unique points of view. When a life-changing event occurs, all of these different perspectives will be necessary to understand the truth," as Variety reports. The show, which sounds akin to Netflix's hit show 13 Reasons Why, will no doubt pique interest in potential viewers, whether it's because of this storytelling method or because of Washington's involvement or, just maybe, because Facebook (folks, I still can't get over the fact this is happening on Facebook) is streaming this exciting new show.

As a producer, it looks like Washington will have a major creative voice and serious input on the show. Part of the Five Points announcement included this line: "'We are thrilled to have the incredibly talented Kerry Washington join our producing team,” said Jon Avnet, co-founder of Indigenous Media. 'Her strong perspective coupled with Thomas Carter’s gifted direction will take Five Points to the next level.'" Washington certainly deserves no less than to be calling the shots, but what the shots will look like will be interesting to see.

This show is still in the early stages of production, so for now, we get to enjoy watching Washington wrap up her run on Scandal. As for the future, it certainly looks bright for this fan-favorite actor.

Beth Is the Most Important Character in This Is Us

There's no denying that This Is Us is an all-'round wonderful, beautiful and emotional series. It is also comprised of beloved characters played by some of the most talented people in Hollywood.

More: All the Ways Jack Could Die in This Is Us Season 2

Of course, everyone loves the key players, especially Randall (Sterling K. Brown), but it's time we talk about Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson). Beth deserves so much more love than she gets. Yes, viewers adore her very much, but a light needs to be shined on Beth's greatness.

She is the best character — and one of our favorites. She's also the one character who holds things together, especially for Randall. As Brown said about Watson during his 2017 Emmy acceptance speech, "It's my pleasure to rep black love with you, sister. Let's keep doing it like Martin and Gina."

And as Watson told BuzzFeed in September, "I hope that people learn more about her and have the same appreciation for who she is. If nothing else, they get more of her point of view on the world." Absolutely.

With that, let's focus on just a few of the amazing parts of Beth, which in turn make her the best This Is Us character.

1. She sees Randall as her equal

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Giphy

It's important in a relationship to see your partner as your equal. That's exactly what both Randall and Beth do. But more often than not, Randall is the one leaning on Beth. She never talks down to him or dismisses him or his feelings. She is 100 percent there for him and treats him with the utmost respect.

2. She shows what a great partner makes

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Tumblr

Beth and Randall are "perfectly imperfect," as he declared in the Season 2 premiere. When it comes to Beth, she is pretty much a perfect wife, whether she'd like to admit it or not. She's honest. She's supportive. She's kind. She's fun. She disagrees with Randall. She doesn't back down. She encompasses everything that a great partner makes.

3. She speaks truth about hard life moments

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Tumblr

Sometimes, Randall has these big dreams or wants to make major life moments happen immediately, but that's not how life works. Enter Beth, who is there to talk sense and truth about the situation. For example, when Randall announced he wanted to adopt a baby, Beth wasn't just going to give in without really thinking about it and what she truly wanted. She isn't afraid to take on the harder conversations.

4. She doesn't hold back when it comes to the Pearsons

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Tumblr

This doesn't mean Beth doesn't love Randall's family, but she doesn't mince words when it comes the Pearsons. There was that time she confronted Rebecca about her knowing William and then there were all those times she was upfront with Kevin living in their home. Oh, and she also doesn't care that Randall knows just how much she doesn't find The Manny funny.

5. She asks the tough questions

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Tumblr

Most of the time, she is the one diving right into the stuff that life presents us. By doing so, she also pushes Randall to face the tougher issues and guides him in the right direction.

6. She makes a fake cigarette look real

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Tumblr

Come. On. Nobody is that good at pretending to smoke.

7. She's her own person

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Tumblr

As much as she is a part of Randall and he is a part of her, Beth is also her own person. Being a wife and a mother doesn't define who she is. She has her own dreams and goals she sets for herself. Oh, and she is now the sole breadwinner of the family, while Randall is a stay-at-home dad, which he is totally OK with. This makes them both great role models for their daughters.

8. She knows how to let loose

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Giphy

When Beth has fun, she has fun, especially when it matters most. How can anyone forget that time William was in pain, so they smoked weed together? Really, this GIF says it all.

9. She's Randall's protector

Beth is the best This Is Us character
Image: Tumblr

When or if anyone is trying to hurt her other half, Beth is going to step in as his protector. This is exactly what she did after William's arrival. She didn't want Randall being taken advantage of, so she gave quite the epic speech.

10. She didn't judge William

Beth is the best character on This Is Us
Image: Giphy

Yes, she was a little concerned when Randall first found his biological father and then invited him to stay, but as time went on, Beth learned to love William. Eventually, she let her guard down, didn't judge him and got to know the truly sweet and amazing man William was.

11. She's not just a wife or mother, she's Beth

Beth is the best This Is Us character

And don't you forget it.

Hey, This Is Us, like you've done so far in the first three Season 2 episodes, give the fans what they want: more Beth.

Obama Is Way Too Classy for a Can of Coke

A fun fact that some may not know about the presidential Oval Office: In it, you’ll find a red button that you can use to summon help on demand.

More: Michelle Obama's best quotes can help us get through the next four years

Is it for security? Nope. Military intel? Nope, not that either. The red button is actually just to make it easier for the president to call an aide to come and assist him with some sort of need. For every president, these needs are different. But for former, and much beloved and missed, President Obama?

Well, President Obama used his button to get tea, according to The Huffington Post.

We learned this sweet tidbit via Sir Richard Branson’s new autobiography, in which he shares that during a visit with Obama, the president used it to order them beverages. Interestingly, the current president, Donald Trump, uses it to summon Coca-Cola. No comment.

"As we stood up to leave I noticed the red buttons on his desk. Obama saw me looking at them," Branson wrote in his autobiography, Finding My Virginity. "He said, 'They used to be there for emergencies, but now I use them for ordering tea for my guests.'"

5 Ways to Make Sure Our Sons Don't Grow Up to Be Harvey Weinstein

$

On Oct. 5, The New York Times released a lengthy exposé on Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein describing decades' worth of allegations of sexual harassment involving many different women. Since then, many more have come forward. By the time you read this, even more women may have come forward.

More: Gwyneth Paltrow Offers Moving Message to Daughter After Weinstein Allegations

Weinstein released a statement to The New York Times that said, "I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it. Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go." He then reportedly checked into an expensive rehab clinic for what he described as sex addiction. Meanwhile, the story continues to unravel. The Weinstein Company's board has fired him, politicians have distanced themselves from him and the U.K.'s Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into claims that he sexually assaulted an actress in London in the 1980s.

And the rest of us read all about it and wonder what makes a man — any man, because Weinstein is far from the only predator out there — believe he has the right to abuse women. Those of us who are parents might gaze at our sons' innocent faces reassuring ourselves that they won't grow up to be that kind of man.

Except we don't know that for sure. Of course, it's hard to believe that your child — your young, sweet son who makes your heart swell with pride on a daily basis — could ever sexually harass or assault someone. But all predators were children once. And we as parents must do all we can to ensure our own kids grow up to fight injustice and harassment — not perpetuate it. Here are what experts believe it takes to make sure there won't be another generation of Harvey Weinsteins.

1. Bust stereotypes of macho masculinity

From a young age, our sons are told (if not by parents, then by teachers, older kids and adults in positions of authority) to "man up," to "suck it up," to "take it on the chin." They are coached to shut down their emotions by those who view male feelings as weakness or failure. "The problem is, it is our capacity to feel emotion that allows us to be human — to be the social species that we are," explains child psychologist Dr. Vanessa Lapointe. To give our sons the capacity to feel, we need to teach them what it truly means to "be a (hu)man." We need to let them feel all of their feelings, share those feelings with the people they trust and invite every part of them to exist. "We want them to grow up hardy, not hardened," says Lapointe.

This emotionally intelligent parenting approach is something many parenting books overlook, adds clinical psychologist and author of Brave Girls, Dr. Stacey Radin. "Developing a child’s awareness of self and other, having them be able to take accountability for their actions and how they impact others, giving them permission to talk about their feelings and be able to recognize the vast amount of emotions that they can feel (even at the same time and sometimes conflicting) — is important," she says.

2. Show them different versions of success

Our sons will struggle to engage in deep and meaningful relationships with other human beings if they grow up thinking success means money, winning and sexual conquests. "What we socialize our boys into is a horrific, culturally defined understanding of what success is," says Lapointe. "And thus is manifested the perfect storm — an inability to feel emotion and a driving need to succeed, so that the meaning which would have otherwise been affirmed within the context of nurturing relationships can now be superficially derived from this falsehood of success."

More: It Takes Less Than 3 Minutes to Teach Our Kids About Consent

3. Talk about consent from a young age

It's never too early to teach consent, says Rachel Kazez, therapist and founder of All Along. As soon as a child is able to decline a hug, kiss or other form of physical contact, they deserve the right to do so. They also deserve information about physical contact, says Kazez; for example, talk them through changing a diaper and let them know why the doctor has to touch them. "The golden rule is 'treat others as you want to be treated,' but it should really be 'treat others how they want to be treated,'" she says.

Our children need to know that it's never OK to be intimate with or touch someone who doesn't express positive, enthusiastic consent. Only "yes" means "yes" — and it has to be stated verbally. We need to teach our kids to listen to their intuition regarding whether or not a situation is dangerous or inappropriate in order to understand the consequences of their behavior. "Young males have what we call 'distant elephant thinking'," explains therapist Daniel P. O’Neil. "An elephant in the distance seems tiny and inconsequential; however, as it gets closer, it is large and potentially dangerous. 'Playing the tape' of the event all the way to a conclusion is important rather than stopping it at the point of pleasure."

4. Teach them that all genders are equal

Children of all genders need to grow up receiving messages (both verbal and nonverbal) that women, men and nonbinary people are all equal and deserve the same respect. "They will then approach the world with this integrated into their own identities. It becomes second nature," says Radin. It's up to us to tell our kids — as often as possible — that everyone should be treated equally and should have the same right to feel safe, regardless of sex, gender, race, socio-economic background, sexual orientation, etc. We also need to be aware of — and work to challenge — media messages that tell us a person is less than, less deserving or weaker than another person because they are different.

"Raise your son to be an advocate or an ally, empowering them to speak up when they see something wrong," says Radin. "Give them permission to confront friends who are behaving inappropriately, reinforcing that their own masculinity isn't defined by conforming to others or remaining silent."

5. Model empathy toward others

Of course, our kids won't grow up to feel the same way as someone else about every issue; that's impossible. But empathy (which at its simplest means awareness of the feelings and emotions of other people) is a key element of emotional intelligence — how we as individuals understand what others are experiencing as if we were feeling it ourselves. "In the case of sex, sexual assault and sexual harassment, if a person can read the verbal, nonverbal and emotional cues of another person, they can pick up any feelings of discomfort, powerlessness, fear, confusion, etc., reflect on a time where they felt those feelings (not necessarily about sex) and relate to their position," explains Carrie Krawiec, licensed marriage and family therapist and executive director of Michigan Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

One of the simplest ways to teach empathy to our kids is to seize everyday opportunities to model — and induce — sympathetic feelings for other people. For example, if you observe someone in distress, be it in real life, in a movie or in a book, talk with your child about how that person might feel and how others might be able to help them.

More: How I'm Raising a Feminist Son

Research shows that 1 in 5 women has been the victim of attempted or completed rape in their lifetime, and nearly 1 in 2 women have experienced sexual violence other than rape. As Kazez points out, countless women, men and nonbinary people have shared their stories of abuse in Hollywood and other areas of entertainment. So it should come as no surprise that a man like Harvey Weinstein — a wealthy heterosexual white male in a position of power — perpetrated such abuse. But if we as parents follow the paths outlined above, we can work to help the next generation change things for the better — one child at a time.

Rose Leslie Gave Kit Harington the Real Test of Love

You know how Game of Thrones supercouple Kit Harington and Rose Leslie are engaged now, years after their respective fictional GoT characters, Jon Snow and Ygritte, had an on-screen romance? And also how they're pretty much the perfect couple, on screen and off, and we just want to be their best friends and invite them to dinner parties and things?

More: Kit Harington & Emilia Clarke's Cutest Moments Together

Well, now we have solid proof that the impulse to be their best friend isn't unfounded. Apparently, Harington and Leslie once went to a Halloween party together. Harington told Heat magazine all about the party, which had the theme of "bad taste." It sounds like a theme that could very easily elicit cultural insensitivity and other Halloween no-nos, but Harington and Leslie are better than that, obviously. No, instead, Harington went dressed as his own GoT character, Jon Snow, but not because he wanted to — he did it because Leslie made him.

"She pulled out a Jon Snow costume, and Rose just whispered in my ear, 'I won't love you if you don't wear it,'" Harington remembered.

He added, "It was really embarrassing. The people bringing around canapes were looking at me, thinking, 'You're sad man! You've come to a party dressed as your character.'"

Believe it or not, this story gets even better. Harington didn't even grab his costume from on set — instead, he wore one of those cheesy Jon Snow costumes that comes in a plastic bag from Amazon or the mall. Could he have done a better job of nailing that theme?

7 Ways Miley Cyrus Has Made Us So Proud in 2017

Miley Cyrus was a different person in 2013. She was a young woman trying to find her place in the world after years of being a part of the Disney machine. She was acting out onstage, in her social media posts and through her music.

But we're so proud of Cyrus — she's reinvented herself in the best way possible, and 2017 has been a banner year for this star. Here are some of the ways she's impressed us with her newfound maturity and grace.

Staying sober

Cyrus has always been open about her weed usage, but it no longer served her and she decided to cut all vices out of her life.

“This is crazy,” she explained to Billboard in a May 2017 interview. “I like to surround myself with people that make me want to get better, more evolved, open. And I was noticing, it’s not the people that are stoned. I want to be super clear and sharp because I know exactly where I want to be.”

Powerful performances

We all remember the days of Cyrus grinding up against Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Music Awards. Well, that girl is long gone. Instead, she’s gifted us with powerful performances with Ariana Grande at the One Love Manchester concert and at the 2017 Billboard Awards.

Cyrus has proven that she’s matured as a songwriter and as a performer. Even those tears at the Billboard Awards had us going too.

When Cyrus goes on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, you just have to embrace every minute of being Miley Cyrus. She sang a moving tribute to Tom Petty with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, had a lip-sync battle with Fallon and wrote an emotional thank-you letter to Hillary Clinton. She showed every color and side to the new, more mature Cyrus and we like it.

Cyrus' Happy Hippie Foundation is a nonprofit organization aimed at encouraging young people to take action with charitable causes. She’s ramped up her efforts this year, from participating in the One Love Manchester concert to donating money to the American Red Cross, Best Friends Animal Society and the Greater Houston Community Fund for Hurricane Harvey relief.

Her manifesto on her charity’s website is simple, “It is essential to our lives to do good for others! The only way we can truly be happy is if we are making others happy! That is, this Hippie's goal! #HAPPYHIPPIE.”

Politics

Miley takes on D&G

While you might not agree with all of her political stances, Cyrus has done a great job of voicing her opinion and not backing down to any of the haters online. While Happy Hippie is a part of her political wokeness, she is also willing to take on challenges with a positive spin.

While posting about her brother Braison Cyrus’ runway debut with Dolce & Gabbana, she slipped in a message that slammed the designers’ beliefs that IVF is unnatural and that gay adoption shouldn’t be allowed. While it’s shocking to hear that from two openly gay men, Cyrus ended on a positive note, praising their efforts in support of young artists.

"D&G, I STRONGLY disagree with your politics," she wrote, "but I do support your company's effort to celebrate young artists & give them the platform to shine their light for all to see!"

In fact, she's downright protective when it comes to Noah. She wants her little sister to have a good experience in the music industry.

“I always tell Noah, 'Keep your Instagram comments turned off,'” she told iHeartRadio’s Label Defiers podcast. “'Never read anything that anyone says about you. Don’t Google yourself.'”

It’s no secret that Cyrus loves her menagerie of animals, with dogs, fish, cats and even pigs. In fact, the pigs are keeping her from touring with her new album, Younger Now.

"Literally the only reason I'm not touring is because of those fucking pigs," Cyrus told Howard Stern via E! News. "That's how much I love those pigs."

Audrey Roloff Baby-Shamed Again — for the Craziest Reason Yet

What did Audrey Roloff — or her baby — ever do to you, cranky internet shamers?

Little People, Big World's Roloff and her husband Jeremy are exhausted first-time-around parents to newborn Ember, who arrived on Sept. 10. Like most exhausted first-time-around parents, the Roloffs — especially Audrey, unsurprisingly — are on the receiving end of much unwanted advice. But unlike most first-time parents, they're getting much of that unwanted advice all over the damn internet. And most of it is just plain mean-spirited to boot.

More: Audrey Roloff Is Struggling With Postpartum Depression

Audrey Roloff posted a seriously darling photo of Ember on Facebook on Friday, writing, "Baby girls got a furry friend and it’s not Pine;)." In the shot, baby Ember's chilling on a plush cream blankie rocking a onesie emblazoned with the caption, "Always more milk." The infant is also sporting a pair of cocoa-colored leggings and a pink headband while she tugs on a furry fox buddy. Super-sweetness, right?

Ember outfit

But because the world is a horrible place, commenters instantly flooded Roloff's Facebook feed with nasty remarks about her fashion choices for Ember. Because these days, no child-size leggings go unshamed on the internet. Behold this selection representing the horribleness of humanity.

"She cute. But not a fan of the outfit. Creepy brown tights. Why not a colorful beautiful dress! The one(s)ie needs help!"

"How her mother dresses her. What happened to cute little dresses... not ugly coloured leggings. Lol."

"Don't like the outf[i]t makes her look like a little old lady sorry."

"Please, is Audrey trying to turn her baby into a MINI MODEL already?!?!"

"She must be cold in a onesie...nothing on her sleeves."

The poor Roloffs just can't win. Audrey Roloff has already been shamed for her totally innocuous baby bump maternity photos, which was also baffling. "I love this family but I think it is a disgrace to show your body to all the viewers.my openion [sic]. It should be for your husbands eyes onlyI am so sick of you showing your belly. We all know you are with child. It would be nice to see a picture of you some time not your belly or your hand underneath your belly to shoew [sic] that you are pregnant."

Fortunately, sane, kind, non-mommy-shaming humans do still exist. Many leaped into the fray to defend Roloff and Ember:

"I think she is adorable. I love the outfit. And as for those being negative, go ahead and post a photo of your self in the comments so we can be negative and pick you apart please. Oh wait... you wouldn't like that... maybe you should think twice before being so negative towards others. Shame on you."

"Some people find something wrong with everything!! You're precious baby looks adorable. I have a niece who is 3 months old and I love the clothes they have today. Their little outfits are darling. Please don't let the negative comments bring you down. Wishing the three of you a world of happiness as you watch your sweet baby grow. (They grow so fast!)"

Thank you, kind people. We've had it up to here with people showering parents with internet hate. Back it up, trolls. Your hateful opinions are not welcome here. Besides, there's literally nothing that any baby could wear that would be ugly. Because they're babies, you guys.

Chip & Joanna Gaines Respond to Pregnancy Rumors

Joanna and Chip Gaines have had it with all the rumors circulating about the reason behind their departure from HGTV's Fixer Upper — namely, the pregnancy rumor. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Oct. 17, the couple responded to gossip suggesting they're expecting a fifth child.

Joanna told ET, "There's so many [rumors], even leading up to it — I had this skin care line, so I'm leaving. It made it look like I was doing my own thing and Chip didn't even know about it. That was just a big rumor. That our marriage is on the rocks... I was pregnant. It's funny when you start hearing this stuff."

MoreFixer Upper's Joanna Gaines Recreates La La Land Dance with Daughter

The Gaineses announced last month that their popular show would be ending after its fifth season — and a howl of existential home-improvement angst rose up from madding throngs on the internet. The couple's official statement on their blogsaid, "Our plan is to take this time to shore up and strengthen the spots that are weak, rest the places that are tired and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our businesses."

But that wasn't enough for disappointed fans, who are still madly swapping theories online about why Chip and Joanna are really leaving their lucrative show — despite the fact that Chip and Joanna themselves literally just offered plenty of reasons for their exit. One major reason: their kids — Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie, 7 — who had become disenchanted with their parents' intense 11-out-of-12-month Fixer Upper production schedule. "They would ask, 'Mom and Dad, do you guys have to film again today? When is this going to be over?" Chip told People. In the same interview, Joanna added. "Fast-forward to today and our oldest is almost a teenager — they're all growing up so quickly."

More: Chip & Joanna Gaines Ended Show Before It Ended Their Marriage

People, they do have four kids already. It wouldkind of make sense that Chip and Joanna are putting family first, no? Four kids is a lot of work even if you're not the star of your own TV show.

Chip told Today, "For us, the most important thing in the world is Jo and I's relationship, followed very quickly by these four beautiful kids. We didn't want to push it, to redline it for so long that we woke up and realized we are at a point of no return. We wanted to take a step back and focus on what is absolutely the most important thing to us." Sounds legit to us. Any other theories out there? Because we think Joanna and Chip have pretty much covered all the bases. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

The latest trailer for Unreal Season 3 just dropped, and it gives us a little insight into what's coming for producers Rachel and Quinn — other than all the abs. Seriously, so many abs. Because, fam, this time, their fictional show-within-a-show, Everlasting, will feature a female suitor. You know what that means: pools full of super-hot dudes vying for the leading lady's attention.

More: 12 Times Unreal Season 2 Totally Missed the Mark

From the trailer, we learn that the bachelorette at the center of the show is really smart. In fact, she may be too smart — Quinn and Rachel clearly can't control her like they've controlled male suitors during past seasons. As she puts it herself, "From this moment forward, the only rules are the rules that I make." LOL, Rachel and Quinn don't play that way. Having a cast of men to manipulate into dramatic storylines will also be a new dynamic since we imagine a lot of the producers' specific tricks for getting women to cry and fight on camera will be a little different than they might be for men.

The trailer doesn't offer us much in terms of what the plot will entail, but it does hint at some of the drama that's coming. One contestant has his man bun cut off while he's asleep, and there's a quick glimpse at a brawl that breaks out poolside. As Quinn puts it, "That is television gold."

Grieving Mother of U.S. Soldier Says ‘Trump Did Disrespect My Son’

The bereaved mother of Sgt. La David Johnson — who was killed in an ambush in Niger on duty earlier this month — confirmed reports that President Donald Trump told her son's widow Johnson "knew what he signed up for."

Cowanda Jones-Johnson was responding to Rep. Frederica Wilson's account that those were Trump's words to widowed Myeshia Johnson during Trump's five-minute condolence phone call. Jones-Johnson said that she was in the car when Trump phoned her daughter-in-law; she told the Washington Post she heard the conversation via speakerphone.

“President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband,” Jones-Johnson said to the Post today.

More: French President Takes Aim at Trump

Jones-Johnson did not wish to elaborate on the conversation, but she confirmed that Wilson's report was indeed correct. Wilson was accompanying the family to Miami International Airport as they traveled there to receive Sgt. Johnson's body from overseas. Wilson told CNN that Trump had spoken to Myeshia Johnson and told her that her late husband “knew what he signed up for" — she also said Trump didn't know Sgt. Johnson's name when he called Johnson.

Wilson referred to Trump's words as "insensitive" and told CNN's Alisyn Camerota, "This man is a sick man. He's cold-hearted, and he feels no pity or sympathy for anyone."

Trump tweeted his denial of Wilson's account of the call, claiming he could prove those were not his words. Trump wrote, "Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!” In response, Wilson told CNN’s New Day she had proof as well.

In response to these events, Karen Meredith of VoteVets wrote in a statement: "Mr. Trump, stop. Please, just stop. This is not about you, it is about them. It is about all of us who lost our loved ones in war. For once in your life, please stop making everything about you. For once in your life, at least pretend to know what empathy is. For once in your life, at least try to care about other people and their feelings." Meredith's son, 1st Lt. Ken Ballard, was killed in Iraq.

Our hearts go out to the families of all the fallen soldiers as well as to the veterans and active-duty service members who have bravely served our country.

I’m Uncomfortable Talking About My Menstrual Pain With My Doctor

$

In the past few years, I’ve come to terms with the fact that menstruation is a perfectly normal biological function and that there’s no reason I should feel like I need to pretend that it doesn’t happen. But just because I’m comfortable with the fact that my body undergoes menstruation, it does not mean that talking about my menstrual experience with strangers is any easier.

Almost every doctor or specialist I have ever been to has started off the appointment by asking when my last menstrual cycle was. While I know this is a common practice, it still makes me uncomfortable to discuss this topic in certain situations.

I’m not the best with tracking my period. No matter how many period-tracking apps I download onto my phone, I always forget to keep them updated as my cycle progresses. Writing down the dates of my period in a journal or planner never sounded appealing to me, and with my track record, I would probably forget to keep an up-to-date log there anyway.

More: 5 Ridiculous Menstrual Myths, Busted

I’ve never felt like I needed to keep exact dates written down — until I’m sitting in the exam room at the doctor’s office.

When then nurse walks in and asks for the date of my last menstrual cycle, I tense up. I quickly pick a random date from the week when I last menstruated and hope there are no further questions. It might seem irrational, but I’m afraid the nurse will judge me if I hesitate when I’m asked when I last menstruated.

I’m nervous the nurse will think I’m doing something wrong, that after all these years, I still haven’t figured out how to properly manage my period.

This same fear plays into why I shy away from discussing my funky menstrual pains with my doctor. Subconsciously, I don’t want to be viewed as though I am incapable of handling the pain that comes with monthly bleeding. I would rather do my own research and suck up the pain than be told my pain is not legitimate. Who could know my body better than me?

The answer to that question is complicated. While I’m arguably the best judge of when something in my body feels “off,” I’m far from being a reproductive health expert. I don’t know how to distinguish between uncomfortable but harmless symptoms of PMS and symptoms that could be indicative of a much more serious reproductive health issue.

More: What’s the Deal With Menstrual Suppression?

Everyone’s body is different and we all experience pain in a different way. When it comes to periods, there is no such thing as a “normal” experience. If your menstrual experience is becoming a hindrance to your general well-being, talking to your doctor is the best way to address the issue so you can get on with your day-to-day life.

I’m learning to let go of my self-consciousness when it comes to talking openly about my period. While I’m not quite there yet, I know that being able to speak about my menstrual pain with my doctor is important to ensuring that I can manage my period in a happy and healthy way.

The following night, Evans and Slate joined Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan Downey, for dinner at Better Half, where co-stars Evans and Downey posed with the chefs.

It would be so great if Evans and Slate did rekindle their romance. Nobody 'ships them harder than we do. They were amazing as a couple and we all want that back. However, they were very clear in their statements after their breakup that they still wanted to be friends.

"It was completely amicable and a mutual decision due to conflicting schedules," a source said right after their split. Both stars said nothing but good things about one another in the days that followed, and it was clear that even though their romantic relationship didn't work, they truly did intend to stay close friends.

Jesse Williams & Minka Kelly Are Couple-y As Ever Despite Cheating Rumors

Updated Oct. 18, 11:45 a.m. PT: Despite even more drama surrounding those pesky rumors that their relationship broke up Jesse Williams and Aryn Drake-Lee's marriage, Williams and his rumored girlfriend, Minka Kelly, are still acting like a couple.

Last week, an eyewitness spotted Williams and Kelly seeing a movie at Rooftop Cinema Club at The Montalban Theater in Hollywood, just a day after Kelly lashed out at an Instagram commenter who brought up the cheating rumors on one of her photos.

The two still haven't actually confirmed that they're a couple, but sources say it's true. One recently told Us Weekly, "Jesse and Minka took a few steps back because of the publicity, but they are still seeing each other."

Original story:

No matter how much they deny them, Jesse Williams and Minka Kelly cannot shake rumors that their alleged relationship is what broke up Williams and his wife, Aryn Drake-Lee. They haven't even confirmed that they're dating, so maybe everyone should give it a rest.

More: Jesse Williams & Aryn Drake-Lee Have Reached a Temporary Settlement

Alas, that's not happening. A troll came at Kelly on her Instagram, commenting, "I hope the cheating rumors aren't true. It would be disappointing."

Good thing Kelly knows how to hold her own. She responded, "They're not. Hate for you to be disappointed. Glad I could clear that up for you. Now fuck off."

All the praise hands for Kelly right now. The woman deserves some peace from all this. Both she and Williams have denied over and over that he cheated on Drake-Lee with her, yet people keep bringing it up. It's exhausting, and it's perpetuating the annoying Hollywood trope that says women are always to blame for breakups. It's beyond time to let that idea die, so thanks to Kelly for doing her part to shut up the people who keep it alive.

More: Jesse Williams Has a Very Special Message for All the Non-Voters Out There

Reports that Williams and Kelly are dating have been swirling for a few months, and the two have been seen together in public, but neither of them has definitively commented on their alleged relationship. The closest they've come was Williams' appearance on Jay-Z's 4:44, where it sounded like he was denying that he was dating Kelly — and he definitely was denying the cheating rumors.

"I was in a relationship 13 years. 13 real years, not five years, not seven years — 13 years. And all of a sudden motherfuckers are writing think pieces that I somehow threw a 13-year relationship, like the most painful experience I’ve had in my life, like with a person I’ve loved with all of my heart, that I threw a person and my family in the trash because a girl I work with is cute," he said on the recording.

Regardless, Williams and his estranged wife have been separated for some time as they continue to move through a messy custody battle. Since they're no longer together, he has every right to date without all this scrutiny and hate.

Please Don't Eat Your Placenta

Women consuming their own placentas following the birth of their child has all the makings of a clickable health story: intrigue, dodgy science and a potential gross-out factor. Over the past few years, we’ve heard from celebrities like January Jones, Kim Kardashian and Alicia Silverstone, who have all been open about taking their own placentas in pill form for various health reasons.

In addition to swallowing encapsulated placenta, people have also incorporated it into smoothies, truffles and soups with the view that it will help a woman recover after giving birth and could possibly prevent or treat postpartum depression.

More: Reminder: Vagina Is Not a Dirty Word

Now is probably a good time to mention that there isn’t any published medical evidence suggesting that eating your placenta has any proven health benefits. Not only that, but a new study in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology confirms this and advises doctors not to recommend that their patients eat their own (or anyone else's) placenta.

Prior to a report from the Centers for Disease Control that came out in June, proponents of the practice have been able to overlook the lack of medical evidence, pointing to the fact that, sure, they may not help, but they’re also not harmful. But that's no longer the case. The CDC report released in June described a baby born in Oregon in 2016 becoming seriously ill with a strep infection that caused breathing difficulties. When doctors looked for the cause of the infection in the newborn but couldn’t find one, they eventually tested the dried placenta capsules the mother of the baby was taking daily. The capsules contained bacteria that were strep positive and were very likely the cause of the baby’s infection according to the authors of the report.

MoreChelsea Clinton Has Major Feelings About the Senate's Health Care Bill

There are currently no existing standards for the processing or preparation of placenta for consumption, the report pointed out. Specifically, the process of turning placenta into capsules does not necessarily involve heating it at 130 degrees F for the 121 minutes required to reduce the type of bacteria that made the baby sick. So, the authors recommend that “placenta capsule ingestions should be avoided.”

Although the CDC has not yet taken an official position on placenta pills, this warning from the authors of the report sends a strong message in the meantime.

Baby Clothes We Wish We Could Wear Ourselves

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve passed a well-dressed child on the street and said to myself, "I wish they made that in my size!" There was the perfect white boho dress spotted on a baby in a stroller in Central Park. There was the toddler who sauntered into a crowded restaurant in glitter Teva sandals. I repeat: glitter. Teva. Sandals. And don’t even get me started on the children’s clothing section at Target. If you could bury me under a pile of T-shirts with cutesy sayings, I’d be a happy gal.

And I know I'm not alone; there’s no shortage of cute baby clothing and accessories on the market that plenty of adults wish we could wear ourselves. Below are 10 of my recent favorites so you can shop them for the kids in your life — and copy them for yourself whenever you finally learn how to sew.

OK, I’ll admit it: I have a jumpsuit problem. In my defense, when the option is either "put together an entire outfit" or "slip on a one-piece and call it a day," it’s pretty clear which one wins. That's why I’m feeling this chic fall floral romper. Sure, they’re selling it as a summer piece, but I see that golden color, all I can think of is autumn.

Baby Clothes We Wish We Could Wear Ourselves: Grounded Company Backpack

Toddlers may not be in actual school yet, but that didn’t stop Grounded Company from making a really cute backpack for teeny-tiny tots. With ocean-inspired hand-drawn watercolor prints and a bottom crafted from 100 percent vegan leather, this is a backpack I’d be thrilled to carry despite the fact that I haven’t been on a school bus in almost 15 years.

I discovered Aussie brand Yoli & Otis on Instagram (where else?), and suffice it to say, if I were about 200 pounds lighter and 5 feet shorter, I’d be all up in that online cart. This white cotton jumpsuit has that perfectly bohemian, just-stepped-out-of-a-1970s-daydream kind of feel, and I am into it.

Baby Clothes We Wish We Could Wear Ourselves: Gap Glitter High Tops

It’s my experience that when it comes to shoes, designers save the good stuff for the littlest ones. Like these glittery high-tops from Gap. I know so many people who could rock these, and guess what? Those people aren’t (all) under the age of 3.

Baby Clothes We Wish We Could Wear Ourselves: Hanna Andersson Dress

I’ve never understood why kids get to have all the fun when getting dressed each morning. Case in point: This heart-print reversible sweatshirt dress from Hanna Andersson. It’s just the right balance of whimsical and stylish and would look amazing with a pair of black tights and booties. Hanna, if you’re reading this, please make this for grown-ups.

I have yet to reach peak coolness, but I’m convinced this philosophically cheeky sweatshirt would get me there. Also, bonus points for the unisex style and for having a unisex section on the site. Many kids' retailers are still sadly hanging onto the whole “pink is for girls and blue is for boys” way of doing things; this site is ahead of the curve.

Speaking of sweats, one of my favorite fashion trends of the past few years has been the emergence of “athleisure,” aka official permission to wear sweatpants out in the world. Thankfully, the sweatpants of which I speak aren’t your momma’s (at least, I hope they’re not my momma’s sweatpants, which are always of the ankle-scrunched variety). These star-printed harem sweats are the perfect example of chic, casual dressing, and they are calling my name.

I’m sure there’s an age at which I was meant to have grown out of the tendency to don cat ears on Halloween, but I’ve yet to reach it, and I’m 31. That's why I’m all over these glittery cat ears from J.Crew, which, like Gap, seems to think that only children want to wear glittery things. Come on!

With fall here, I’m also hunting for cute beanies to keep the noggin warm, and this camo slouchy version fits the bill big time. So what if it’s made for heads half the size of mine? A girl can dream.

Does Drinking Alcohol Really Improve Your Foreign Language Skills?

When it comes to attempting to speak my second language (Slovenian, if you're curious), there are two scenarios that make it much easier: drinking alcohol and speaking to small children (not necessarily at the same time). Now, a new study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology is confirming what I've always suspected: A small amount of alcohol can help you speak a foreign language.

Unfortunately, it's not some potion that magically teaches you new words and correct grammar. It essentially works by lowering your inhibitions. At this point, we're well aware that alcohol consumption messes with our cognitive and motor functions, so using that logic, it might make sense that drinking would decrease you ability to break out that high school French or college Mandarin. But at the same time, we also know that for some people, alcohol reduces social anxiety and boosts confidence levels, which technically could help you speak your native language too.

This research was conducted on native German speakers living in the Netherlands who were studying at a Dutch university and learning to read, write and speak in Dutch. The 50 participants were each given a beverage — some, a low dose of alcohol, while others received a nonalcoholic drink — and had a conversation with a native Dutch speaker, which was recorded and later analyzed by people who weren't aware whether or not the non-native speaker had consumed alcohol.

Turns out, the people who had the low dose of alcohol spoke significantly better than those with the nonalcoholic drink, specifically when it came to pronunciation.

"Our study shows that acute alcohol consumption may have beneficial effects on the pronunciation of a foreign language in people who recently learned that language," Dr. Inge Kersbergen, from the University of Liverpool's Institute of Psychology, Health and Society and who was involved in the study, said in a statement. "This provides some support for the lay belief (among bilingual speakers) that a low dose of alcohol can improve their ability to speak a second language."

But Dr. Fritz Renner, one of the researchers who conducted the study at Maastricht University, pointed out that the positive effects on second-language skills came with a low dose of alcohol, and drinking large amounts might not have the same outcome.

Lastly, Dr. Jessica Werthmann, another of the researchers at Maastricht University, cautioned against reading too much into these results until more research is done, suggesting that the anxiety-reducing effect of alcohol may play a major role in any observed language improvement.
