Pink Is Still Optimistic About President Trump

Looking at the news these days, it's really hard not to feel hopeless. Natural disasters, mass shootings, terrorism and divisive politics that dominate the headlines would get anyone down. Well, almost anyone.

There's still at least one person who is, somehow, feeling hopeful about American politics: Pink. She tweeted about her hope that President Donald Trump can still change.

"I've seen people change and turn their lives around. There's still hope for you @POTUS. It's what the world needs," she wrote.

Pink's tweet comes at a time when Trump is facing an awful lot of criticism. Just hours before her tweet, Trump confirmed that he will be the first sitting president ever to speak at an anti-LGBT summit. Earlier this morning, he threatened to cut off aid to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, where more than 80 percent of residents are still without power, food and clean water. And that threat came just weeks after Trump promised to continue aiding Southern states for as long as it takes them to recover from the hurricane destructions, which shows a real disparity in how he treats the American citizens that live in Puerto Rico versus the continental U.S.

Jason Momoa's Bad Rape Joke From 2011 Resurfaces & Causes Controversy

Harvey Weinstein actually might have done something great for society: He put rape culture front and center in the national conversation. Weinstein has been fired, left by his wife and utterly disgraced for decades of mistreating women. Ben Affleck has been forced to apologize for groping Hilarie Burton on live TV. No actor's problematic behavior is safe, no matter how powerful or popular he may be.

Next up? Jason Momoa. An old clip just surfaced of the Game of Thrones actor making a brutal rape joke during a 2011 GoT panel at a Comic-Con, and the internet is not having it.

"As far as sci-fi and fantasy go as a genre there is so many things you can do… like rape beautiful women," he says in the clip. His co-stars bury their heads in their hands, clearly embarrassed that he would say something like that. The audience, however, roars with laughter, and it should be noted that the fact that so many people think joking about rape is that hilarious is maybe a factor in why so many women just don't come forward when they're abused. You know, because people react by laughing their asses off. Anyway.

Now, Momoa is getting dragged, and dragged hard, by Twitter, and TBH, he deserves it. This may be an old clip, but that kind of talk is so unacceptable. Thank you, Harvey Weinstein, for making us all see that (file this under "things I never thought I'd say in 2017").

Survivor's Patrick Bolton Discusses His Secret Connection to Ali Elliott

Ouch. Patrick Bolton's big personality has been snuffed out on Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers. During our one-on-one conversation with Patrick, he revealed lots more about his secret connection with Ali years before they ever competed on Survivor together. Plus, he explained what bonehead move she made that could ultimately cost her the game.

SheKnows: You seemed shocked to be voted out. Did you have any idea it was coming?

Patrick Bolton: No idea at all. I was confident going into Tribal that I had Ryan, Devon and Ali voting with me. They did a great job at convincing me that I wasn't going home. As soon as we got back from the challenge, Lauren walked down to the beach and I asked what the vote was going to be. They said it was Lauren. They all confirmed it was Lauren. I was good. I talked to Ryan, which they didn't show, as I was Idol-hunting later that evening. I wasn't concerned that I was leaving, but just working to find an Idol. Ryan said, "Hey, you don't need to look for the Idol. Lauren is going home." He had so much sincerity in his voice. The way he looked at me told me I was not going home. I had it in my mind that I was safe. I got my throat cut.

SK: Are you still angry about it?

PB: No. My anger and my emotions came back to me last night watching it, but I'm friends with everybody from my tribe. I wish the best for them now. After I was voted off, I was not wishing them the best in their game, but that was honest emotion. I didn't want them to do well after they ruined my time there. Third home was way too early for me. I should not have gone home.

SK: Watching the show back, you're able to hear some of the things other contestants are saying about you. Some of them said you were annoying. Simone told us in our interview that you were obnoxiously waking everybody up. Were you surprised to hear how the others were talking about you?

PB: I was kind of surprised with some of the things. You telling me that I was waking people up, that's news to me now. That's the first time I've heard that. I understood that I was aggravating Lauren a little bit. I didn't think I was going to work with her, so I didn't try and cultivate that relationship. I thought if she was going home, I didn't need to waste my time. I should've spent my time with her because it ended up ruining the chances for me working with Lauren. It could've been me, Ali and Lauren voting out somebody else. I didn't work that connection. If I had, I could still be playing right now, which I totally regret. I definitely want to take the most out of everybody's opinion and what everybody thinks I can work on. I want to be a better person. I try to be better every day. I want to be able to help others and not negatively affect their outlook on me. I want people to enjoy my company and not adversely say I'm annoying to be around. Part of that is just being near somebody 24/7. Lauren probably could easily handle me in moderation. Everything in excess can be bad. I, in excess for Lauren, was a bad thing.

SK: You actually went into the game having a connection with Ali that stretches back several years because you went to college together. What were you thinking when you saw her show up to compete on Survivor?

PB: I was just bewildered thinking both of us somehow signed up for the same season of Survivor. Both of us somehow ended up on the same tribe on Survivor. That's absolutely nuts to think that could even happen. When I first saw Ali, I saw her in LA right before we flew to Fiji. My jaw hit the floor. I was thinking there was no chance we are actually playing Survivor together. I knew she lived in California and I thought she just happened to be working in the area and was in our hotel by coincidence. Nope, she was actually with our group. I knew production had alternates to possibly take my position, so I said nothing of it. I learned later that Ali told everyone [in production] as soon as she saw me. "I know this guy. It's no longer strangers because we have past relations. We lived down the street from each other. We went to the same college." It's crazy. Thirty-thousand people at Auburn University, and we lived down the street from each other. I actually helped Ali move into her apartment. I was close friends with her.

SK: Did you guys keep it a secret from the other castaways?

PB: I revealed that to nobody. No one while we played together knew that. Ali told the rest of our group once the tribe swap happened. She let everybody know, which I don't know if that was the best idea for Ali. It shows everybody else that they can't trust her because she didn't tell them the truth from day one. They should be able to understand her reasoning for that, but I don't think it would've helped either of us if people knew.

SK: Did that previous relationship give you both an instant alliance?

PB: For sure. I looked at Ali as someone I could trust. We could lean on each other. I wanted to work with her. I thought it would be easy, and I didn't have to put too much time in it because we knew each other. I said, "Let's watch out for each other. I've got your back. If anything comes up I'll let you know. Look out for me. Please tell me if somebody's gonna vote me out, Ali." She didn't do that. She asked me later, "If I told you that you were going home, would you have blown up?" I was like, "For sure, I would've blown up. I would have been trying to change as much as a could in the last few seconds when I had time to talk to everyone." I could've spoiled her game, though. I understand.

SK: Of those left on the Hustlers tribe, who does not deserve to win?

PB: I don't want to say none of them deserve it. Lauren is a hard worker. Ali is a hard worker. Honestly, I think everybody has potential to win from my tribe. They're all great candidates. Who would I want not to win? Lauren because she outed me. Why would I wish her to win $1 million when she's the one that took it away from me? I do not want Lauren to win. I'm also very frustrated at Ali and Ryan for voting me out. I thought we were tight, and they ripped it right out of my arms. I should not have gone home third.

SK: Who is running the show on the Hustlers tribe?

PB: Ryan is in charge. I think he's playing very well, and I don't think people realize it. He's definitely the one calling the shots. He's got Devon under his arm. Devon may not realize it, but he's being like a puppet.

SK: How did you get on the show?

PB: My sister and I actually wanted to be a part of The Amazing Race and talked about it during Thanksgiving when we were at home. Our video got a callback with the possibility to be on the show Survivor. I watched the show. I was a small fan, not a large one. As soon as I got the opportunity, I realized that would be also an amazing experience. It has been more so than I had even hoped for. I binge-watched a lot of episodes and a lot of seasons. I probably finished a season in one day.

Women Dish Up Tips on How to Create Healthy Habits That Stick

$
0
0

People are always telling us to make healthy choices, but what the heck are "healthy choices" anyway? It seems like every time we turn around, one authority or another is backtracking on something previously stated as fact (eating low-fat is the best way to lose weight; eggs are horrible for your cholesterol — you know what we're talking about ).

That's part of the problem of creating healthy habits. Everything is so vague. Does it mean to exercise "more"? Or cut back on fast food? Or prioritize sleep? Or drink more water or fewer margaritas?

To make healthy choices in the real world, you have to have a plan of action — a barometer by which to test your success or failure. And while everyone's path to a healthy lifestyle is bound to look a little different, there are lots of tried-and-true tricks for morphing your vague desire for health into an actual, workable solution.

1. Set personal goals

I could write a whole article on goal-setting, but I won't because it's already been done. The point is, you need to define what "getting healthy" means to you. Make your goals SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound), then spend time defining what those goals translate to on a day-to-day basis. For instance, will you aim to eat five servings of veggies each day? Will you complete 150 minutes of physical activity each week? If you don't determine what a healthy lifestyle means to you, you'll never know if you're hitting the mark.

2. Seek out support

Accountability is an incredible motivator — if you feel like others will notice if you don't show up for a workout, you're more likely to make an appearance. Yokasta Schneider, the owner of Get U Moving Fitness, says, "Sign up for group classes. The support from a group will give you the accountability to continue your fitness journey." Plus, if you sign up and pay in advance, you'll be less likely to find excuses not to show — that's just throwing money down the drain.

3. Start packin'

Snacks, that is. Alyssa Serchia, a certified personal trainer and blogger, says, "I always keep a piece of fruit and a healthy bar in my purse so I don't fall into junk-food temptations when I'm out and about."

Hunger has this way of sneaking up on you, attacking right when you pass the plate of office doughnuts. If you plan ahead and hide a few healthy snacks in all the right places — your car, your purse, your office drawer — you'll be less likely to grab the goodies or swing through a drive-thru. In addition to fruit and protein bars, baggies of celery and single-serving packets of peanut butter are excellent choices for a protein-meets-healthy-carb combo.

4. Prep yourself

In addition to packing snacks in all the right places, meal prep is essential for making good choices at mealtime. Lea Genders, a certified personal trainer, points out, "It's easier to make healthful choices on stressed and busy days when prep work is already done."

The good news is that prepping really doesn't take that long. Simply plan the meals you're going to make for the week, do your grocery shopping, then spend an extra 30 minutes to an hour after you get home from the store slicing, dicing and separating foods so they're ready to be thrown together when the time is right.

5. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

If you're not properly hydrated, you're shortchanging your metabolism. All of your body's processes take place in water (it does make up 60 percent of your body, after all), so even minor dehydration can prevent your body from performing its best. The last thing you want to do while pursuing weight loss or healthy lifestyle goals is to prevent your body from meeting its full, calorie-burning potential.

Erin Jimenez, a blogger who's currently down 88 pounds and counting, concurs, "Proper hydration was a key component in the early days of my weight-loss journey. I've found that if I have several water bottles available in the fridge, I drink more water and snack less out of boredom."

So, what if you don't like water? You're not alone. Sam "Sly," an active-lifestyle blogger, has this suggestion: "Create fruit, vegetable or herb water infusions. Simply add cut fruits or vegetables to water and chill overnight or during the workday. If I prepare a couple bottles, I always have delicious, healthy water ready. My favorites are cucumber and mint or strawberry and ginger."

6. Sneak in the veggies

You don't have to eat salads at every meal to get extra veggies in your diet. Tammi Doerfler, a holistic nutrition coach, argues that veggies can be added to almost everything: "Omelets, pasta sauce, chili, soups and even some desserts like zucchini bread, are all made healthier with the addition of vegetables." She also points out you can even substitute veggies for some grain-based foods. For instance, you can make veggie noodles or cauliflower rice. You can't expect these substitutes to taste exactly the same as the real deal, but that doesn't mean they're not tasty in their own right.

7. Time yourself

One of the biggest barriers most people have to enjoying a long, healthy life, is simply sitting too much. We're all too stinkin' sedentary! And while you might be forced to spend hours in front of a computer all day, you don't have to spend every minute of every hour in front of the computer. Sam Sly points out that you can sneak extra activity into your day by simply setting a timer: "I set a timer for 55 minutes. When the timer goes off, I spend five minutes moving — stretching, walking around, doing exercises. When I do this, I feel better and am much more productive."

Not to mention, you get a lot more activity this way. If you exercise for just five minutes of every hour at work, you'll accumulate an extra 40 to 45 minutes of activity by the end of the day.

8. Schedule it in

Don't forget the power of planning. Samara Hantman, a National Academy of Sports Medicine-certified personal trainer, puts it simply: "Failure to plan really is planning to fail. Schedule your workouts like you would a doctor's appointment so you won't skip them." Put them in your calendar, then use all the tools at your disposal to help make your workout a top priority — for instance, block out the time in your schedule so nothing else can be penciled in, sync your calendar with your email to get notifications and reminders and set the alarm early enough so you'll be able to get changed and to the gym with time to spare.

A Field Guide to the Weird Sounds Your Body Makes

$

Body sounds can be embarrassing, but usually they're completely normal. We all know what a rumbling stomach sounds like, but what do all those weird belly sounds really mean? What else does our body do that sounds weird and can be embarrassing? Never fear — we've rounded up some of the most common body noises and found out what they mean.

Abdominal gurgle

The abdominal gurgle can be one of the loudest tummy noises we can produce, and it has an even better name that you're sure to love: borborygmus (plural: borborygmi). Basically, your intestines are hollow muscles designed to move ingested food along before it exits your body. During normal digestion, food is pushed along your intestinal tract accompanied by liquid and gas. Borborygmi take place when food (or its remnants) is on the move, and it's mostly the gas bubbles that contribute to the noise.

More5 Foods You Should Eat During Your Period

Stomach growl

A growling stomach typically signifies hunger, and it's interesting to note that it is also termed borborygmus. The reason it's often louder when we're hungry? According to Mark Andrews, associate professor of physiology and associate director of the independent study program at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, it's because there isn't as much stomach and intestinal content, which can muffle the noise.

Gurgling with meaning

Sometimes, the borborygmi can be way more intense — described by many as "bubble guts" — and is often accompanied by cramping, nausea or other abdominal distress. This is often followed by an immediate bathroom visit, as you realize the diarrhea gods have bestowed their gift upon you. This stomach noise should always be carefully monitored by the bearer of said gurgles and bathroom proximity should be noted. Also, definitely do not let out an experimental fart, because it may be more than just gas, and that's just bad news.

Belching

Everybody burps, and even though it's common, it may be an unexpected surprise (although it's fun at parties). Belching is normal and rids the body of excess gas (which comes from swallowing air or, alternatively, gasses produced as a normal part of digestion). Excessive belching, on the other hand, can indicate a problem, such as a hiatal hernia, infections or food intolerances.

Farting

Farting, or flatulence, is another normal noise our bodies adore producing. This oft-smelly butt trumpet noise starts in the intestines and is the simple act of the body ridding itself of excess gas from your bum instead of your mouth. Believe it or not, the average person is a flatulence-producing machine, churning out 1 to 3 pints of gas (averaging around 14 farts per diem). It can also be accompanied by the above-mentioned belly gurgles and growls, so you can be a one-person band if you're up for it.

Hiccups

Hiccups are annoying AF, but are generally harmless. It all stems from the diaphragm, a muscle that really means business and is located just under your lungs (when it contracts, it expands your thoracic cavity and draws in air so you can breath). If it decides to contract for no reason at all, the opening in your vocal cords snaps shut to deal with the sudden intake of air, and bingo, you've got the hiccups.

More: Here's Why We Get Hiccups & How to Get Rid of Them

Popping joints

No, you're not a bowl of Rice Krispies, but your joints have probably popped before. This too is a normal human body sound. While nobody is 100 percent certain of why a joint pops or cracks, they have a pretty good idea — physical therapist Damien Howell explains that the joint capsule surrounds the two bones that make up the joint and can create a vacuum of sorts, which means there is less pressure inside than out. When the joint pops, the pressure inside suddenly changes and we hear a crack.

Overall, body noises are certainly interesting, and although some come with a degree of embarrassment, they're often perfectly normal side effects of being a human, eating and digesting food and moving around. Of course, if you have any concerns, see a medical professional, but unless it's a problem, enjoy the melodies your body makes.

Emma Thompson's 11-Minute Takedown of Hollywood's Predator Crisis Is a Must-Watch

Emma Thompson is adding her voice to the growing number of men and women speaking out in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein allegations — and she has some powerful words for the "predator" and for the systems that breed such abuse.

More: Harvey Weinstein's Wife Georgina Chapman Announces She's Leaving Him

Speaking with BBC 2's Newsnight, Thompson explained that her experience with Weinstein was limited to a professional capacity. However, upon hearing the allegations of sexual harassment and assault directed at the hotheaded film exec, Thompson admitted, "I didn't know about these things, but they don't surprise me at all and they're endemic to the system anyway."

Speaking pointedly about Weinstein's behavior, Thompson continued to call out the culture of complicity that fosters the violation and suppression of women.

"What I find sort of extraordinary is that this man is at the top of a very particular iceberg. And I don't think you can describe him as a sex addict; he's a predator. That's different. He's, as it were, at the top of a ladder of a system of harassment and belittling and bullying and interference and what my mother would have referred to in the olden days as pestering," Thompson elaborated, adding, "That's the word we used to use in the olden days, if you recall. This has been part of our world — women's world — since time immemorial."

So how do we effect change?

According to Thompson, we need to start having the hard conversations, and we need to have them often. No matter how uncomfortable it may be.

Emma Thompson

Emma Thompson

"What we need to start talking about is the crisis in masculinity, the crisis in extreme masculinity — which is this sort of behavior," she said, "and the fact that it is not only OK, but it is represented by the most powerful man in the world at the moment."

More: All of the Celebrities Who Have Accused Harvey Weinstein of Sexual Misconduct So Far

When asked whether she believes there are other men in the industry who have abused women in a similar way to Weinstein, Thompson affirmed that she assumes there are many. When asked whether those unspoken predators have committed acts like Weinstein's, she made an extremely salient point.

"Maybe not to that degree," she said. "Do they all have to be as bad as them to make it count? Does it only count if you've done it to loads and loads and loads of women? Or does it count if you've done it to one woman once? I think the latter."

Ending this culture of complicity and silence and rewriting the narrative won't be easy, Thompson admits. In fact, she can't say with all confidence that even a scandal as disturbing and massive as Weinstein's will lead to necessary change at this point.

"One of the big problems about the way in which our systems work at the moment is that there are so many blind eyes. And we can't keep making the women to whom this happens responsible — they're the ones who've got to speak. Why? We've got to look and say, 'This is happening,' and say, 'This is happening!'" she emphasized.

More: Matt Damon Denies Having Any Knowledge of Harvey Weinstein's Misconduct

Facing the knowledge that the scope of allegations against Weinstein likely indicates many industry insiders were involved in cover-ups, Thompson responds, "Yeah, it's pretty filthy, right? That's the conspiracy of silence, and I think there are probably about a million missed opportunities to call this man out on his disgusting behavior."

In a fiery final few minutes of the interview, Thompson calls for transparency. She calls for gumption. And most of all, she calls for action.

"This is about our system's imbalances — our system's gender crisis. We have to act on this; we have to turn this on its head," she said. "We can't allow this to continue, because what it means is naturally vulnerable people are going to continue to be preyed upon, whether Harvey Weinstein goes to jail or not."

On July 14, 2017, Chester Bennington and his Linkin Park bandmates Mike Shinoda and Joe Hahn took a ride around LA with comedian Ken Jeong for James Corden's classic Carpool Karaoke bit. Less than a week later, Bennington was gone, and Corden decided to withhold the segment out of respect for the family.

In a statement to the Associated Press, Corden explained his decision, saying, "We will approach it in whichever manner his family, or the people that were involved in that episode, however they would like it to be handled. We consider it to be not our decision to make. We will navigate it as delicately as possible and just adhere to whatever wishes they would want to because I don't think there's any other way we could deal with it, really."

Get Ready, Because We're About to Drop the ‘Breast’ Facts Ever

$

Breasts. We all have them, but only half of us are expected to cover them up in public. They can be a source of food, an important indicator of your health and — like it or not — are something we literally carry on our chests every day for most of our lives. So let’s take a look at some of the "breast" facts ever.

We may call them the “twins,” but they’re actually more fraternal than identical. Most women’s breasts are two different sizes, and this is totally normal. Usually the right one is bigger (though different studies of breast volume have come up with conflicting conclusions).

Men have breasts and nipples because all fetuses start off with biologically female characteristics. Then around the sixth week of gestation, testosterone kicks in, causing fetuses with a Y chromosome to develop testes and a penis. But at that stage, the breasts are a done deal.

Breast Facts Ever

Breast Facts Ever

More: Understanding the Lumps & Bumps in Your Breasts

People who breastfeed typically produce approximately 16 to 42 ounces of milk per day. So just over a course of six months, that’s 23 to 59 gallons.

The word “brassiere” comes from the French for “upper arm”…which is a bit of a stretch, anatomically, but the word has been in use since at least 1907 when it appeared in the pages of Vogue.

No one really “invented” the bra, per se. For as long as women have been around, we’ve been coming up with different methods of support going back as far as ancient Greece and Rome, where women would wrap themselves in bands of fabric. But socialite Mary Phelps Jacobs is credited with receiving the patent for the first modern bra in 1914 after she sewed some handkerchiefs and ribbons together to make an undergarment suitable for wearing under the plunging necklines in style at the time.

More: No, an Underwire Bra Won't Give You Cancer (& 9 Other Breast Health Myths)

You probably already know the importance of investing in a well-fitting sports bra, but did you know that during physical activity, breasts move in a figure-eight shape? And once the ligaments and connective tissue in your breasts wear out — kind of like a rubber band — there’s no way to reverse it (without surgery). And of course, your breasts are beautiful no matter what.

Thanks to the fact that breasts are pretty much everywhere you look, some people may have a certain idea of what “proper” breasts are supposed to look like. But really, breasts come in all different shapes, sizes and colors.

Of course, you should also be familiar with what your breasts look and feel like so you’re able to notice when something is not normal. In that case, it’s best to let a doctor weigh in. But so many of the things we feel like we should be embarrassed about are totally common.

Rachel Lindsay Isn't Cool With BET Relationship-Shaming Her

Once again, Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay is on the defensive when it comes to her choices and the way she chooses to live her life, and she's really not letting this nonsense slide any longer. This time, it's BET who has sparked some ire on Twitter from Lindsay, as she is once again defending her relationship with Bryan Abasolo. The pair has faced criticisms from Bachelor Nation in the months since the season finale aired and Abasolo was revealed to be Lindsay's winner.

More: Rachel Lindsay Is Chomping at the Bit to Get Hitched

According to Refinery29, Lindsay went on Twitter to call out BET for apparently, without any real reason behind it, writing up in their interview with former Bachelorette contestant Eric Bigger that Lindsay had "epically fail[ed] at scoring the love of her life" while on the show. If you'll recall, Lindsay's final three had been Abasolo, Bigger and Peter Kraus, who was the fan-favorite to win.

Those comments must have gotten back to Lindsay ASAP, because she took to Twitter to call out the outlet for their choice in denigrating her when she wasn't even the focus of the interview. "Come on now @BET. We're still on this. If u want to write an article about me then sit down and interview me. She continued, "U could have written a positive article about w/o bashing my relationship and me. Your negativity took away from the positivity that is Eric." Lindsay ability to remain honest and candid about her feelings is much appreciated here and most certainly hits at the problematic nature of those kinds of unnecessary comments.

It's been six months since Jennifer Garner split from Ben Affleck, and she's been moving onward like a champ. She and Affleck were going through tough times toward the end, splitting up and considering getting back together before officially and publically calling it quits. That kind of emotional roller coaster cannot be easy at all; even the strongest-willed among us would feel the pain of it.

That said, Garner has made sure not to let separating from her husband of 12 years reroute her life, her career or her responsibilities as a mom to children Violet, Seraphina and Samuel. She's hanging out with her family and working on new film projects, and she's very clearly having the time of her life. Check out the small ways Garner is moving on and keeping her chin up.

Garner's begun promoting her latest film, The Tribes of Palos Verdes, which will most certainly keep her busy until its release. Playing a loving wife and mother who finds her world upended when her husband cheats on her and leaves her for another woman, some might be quick to think this role hits a little too close to home. While Garner has acknowledged that she had to deal with the emotions stirred up by the role because it risked bringing up her personal feelings, the film looks like a stunning showcase for Garner — a fact worth celebrating.

Here's What Mindy Kaling Thinks About Oprah Spilling the Beans on Her Pregnancy

Updated October 13, 2017, 10:15 a.m. ET: In case you were wondering, we have our future president (What? A girl can dream...) to thank for confirming Mindy Kaling's pregnancy. Yep, the one and only Oprah Winfrey spilled the news at Disney’s D23 expo this summer. And this week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kaling finally confirmed her baby's sex (it's a girl!) herself — and shared her thoughts on Winfrey's big uninvited reveal.

Kaling told DeGeneres that she had planned to keep the pregnancy secret — "but Oprah opened her big mouth," DeGeneres interjected. But Kaling says it's all good.

“If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life," Kaling tells DeGeneres, "Oprah Winfrey is the person. You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, ‘Hey, Oprah, zip it’ — because she’s almost like a religious figure. So if there’s one person I have to tell my daughter about that revealed her existence to the world, Oprah is pretty good... I think I learned a long time ago that it’s probably not a good idea to reprimand Oprah."

Watch Kaling's hilarious recap — and thoughts about squishy chairs — below.

Mindy Kaling baby news

Original story:

A baby girl is on the way for Mindy Kaling, and her co-stars couldn't hide their excitement at the PaleyFest Fall TV Preview event for The Mindy Project.

The event, hosted in Los Angeles this weekend, was attended by Kaling's co-stars Beth Grant and Ed Weeks. Both actors were over the moon for Kaling and eager to share that the baby's a girl — and that a lot of happy tears have been shed by the cast recently. Hell, we're tearing up over here too.

Weeks, who plays Dr. Jeremy Reed on the show, said, “We were so thrilled for her... The show started as a tribute to her mother, who very sadly passed away just as the show is being picked up, and it ends with her having a daughter of her own.”

He continued, "We all cried in the final table read. I mean, Jesus, life! It makes some very interesting and beautiful patterns sometimes.”

Beth Grant plays The Mindy Project's Beverly Janoszewski. She told Us, "I’m just thrilled out of my mind! I cried like a baby, and that it's a girl... I just think that she's up to it... she's ready, and I'm very happy for her, because I have a daughter [who's] turning 25, and it's just the greatest thing in the world.”

More: Mindy Kaling Is Finally Talking About Her Pregnancy

Grant has witnessed firsthand how passionate Kaling is about mentoring young women — and believes that passion will translate perfectly into mothering a little girl. (We agree.)

“She does know my daughter, and she's been very kind to her," Grant said. "In fact, when my daughter graduated Juilliard, [Mindy] took her to lunch and sent her flowers... and gave her a little co-star role on the show this season."

She continued, "I think she's mentored a lot of young women, and a lot of her former assistants are writing now... She's really good about giving young women opportunities... so I think it's a natural thing for her to be a mom.”

While Kaling has not shared the identity of her child's biological father, she's been very upfront about all other things Baby Kaling with her cast and crew.

Weeks recalled, “She kind of just took us aside on set, weirdly in the open office area where we film most of our scenes. She said, 'Guys, I just want you to know I’m pregnant. I haven’t told anybody.'”

Weeks has no doubt Kaling will rock being the mama of a little girl. “I’m sure she’ll do that amazing as she does everything else,” he said. “She’s already created a show; how hard can it be to create some lungs and liver and stuff, kidneys?”

Yeah, how hard can that be?

11 Ways to Keep Your House From Getting Stuffy & Smelly During Cold Months

$

I love fall, winter and staying inside. What can I say? I'm an indoor kid and proud of it. But all that time cooped up in the house means I become hyperconscious of any weird smells or stuffy air, and when you can't just open the windows to let a breeze in, it's hard to know how to freshen things up.

Luckily, there are a few simple solutions to banning strange odors and unwanted allergens from the air in your home. From changing out your heating system's air filters to simmering a pot of lemons on the stove, these tips will keep your house smelling bright and fresh, even through the coldest days of the year.

1. Change your air filters

When you turn on the heater on the first cool night of fall, your old, dirty air filters can leave your home smelling musty. Luckily, Canopy Air has you covered. Canopy's micro-allergen air filters block irritants, allergens and toxins that usually float through the air, resulting in a cleaner, healthier and fresher-smelling home. And lest you forget to change them regularly (what, you don't have an air filtration calendar alert?), Canopy will schedule automatic shipments of new filters to your home. Every time you get a shipment, you'll know it's time to switch out your old filter to keep the air in your home safe and clean.

2. Keep coats & boots dry

Residual dampness is the enemy of fresh indoor air, so make sure that your coats and boots are drying properly. If you get really soaked, you can throw your outerwear into the dryer and keep your boots by the heater so they dry quicker. Also, don't just keep your winter shoes in a pile near the door — spread them out so the air can circulate, drying them quicker too.

3. Utilize ventilation

The fan in the hood above your stove is key to making sure cooking smells don't get trapped in your home, but so many of us ignore it. But once you make a habit of flicking the switch to turn on the fan (even if that means it's harder to listen to your podcasts while you cook), you'll see what a difference it makes. And don't forget to use the fan in your bathroom when you shower too — it'll help get rid of any dampness, which can cause bacterial growth and odor.

4. Essential oil diffusers

Essential oil diffusers add a fresh, natural vibe to your home. Choose lavender and bergamot to create a soothing scent in your bedroom or lemongrass and grapefruit to energize your workspace.

5. Simmer pots

Simmering a mix of aromatics in a pot of water on the stove can quickly banish any bad smells from your kitchen. Try a mixture of lemon slices, mint and eucalyptus or a warming blend of oranges, cloves and cinnamon.

6. Lavender sachets

Tuck lavender sachets into your linen closets and bureau to keep your clothes and blankets smelling fresh. Bonus? The lavender scent can help keep out moths and silverfish.

7. Get your chimney checked

Before winter sets in, get your chimney inspected and cleaned by a professional. This will ensure that once you start building fires, the smoke will go where it's supposed to instead of into your home.

9. Get some houseplants

Houseplants look nice, but they're also great for improving air quality. Spider plants, Boston ferns, peace lilies, English ivy and ficus are all effective at removing toxins from the air and are fairly easy to care for. Just check this list from the ASPCA if you have pets to make sure you don't get one that's toxic.

10. Deodorize your carpets

Dragging mud, snow and rain indoors can make your carpets, well, stinky. Solve the problem by taking your shoes off when you come inside and by periodically deodorizing your carpet. Just sprinkle on some baking soda, rub it in a bit, let it sit for about 15 minutes and vacuum all the odors up.

11. Nontoxic scented candles

Clean-burning soy candles made with natural scents are a quick way to freshen up any room in your home while adding some warm ambiance too. Light a few while you snuggle up on the couch with a warm book.

Costco Now Has Online Ordering With Same-Day & Next-Day Delivery Options

If the chore of fighting the crowds at a warehouse store is not how you’d like to spend your day off, we get it. None of us actually wants to do that, but when these things need to get done, we have no choice, right?

More: This Hack Lets You Shop at Costco Without a Membership (or Pants)

Well, there’s actually a new option. Costco is rolling out an online delivery option, going by the rather expected name CostcoGrocery.

The CostcoGrocery service will let customers log on and order from 500 nonperishable items, everything from shelf food to household supplies. Even better, shipping is free if you spend $75, which is not remotely difficult to achieve at Costco. Even if you don't reach $75, though, the shipping is only a $3 fee. Costco says it offers second-day deliveries to every region except Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico. Second-day deliveries are not available on weekends.

But that’s not the only exciting Costco news. The warehouse store giant is also partnering with Instacart for same-day deliveries. That option will open the door to items like meat, dairy and produce, all in the bulk shopping sizes we count on at the store. To find out if this is available in your area, just log onto Instacart and add your zip code.

“We feel good that we've got a few delivery options for our members that frankly are better than the ones they were doing the day before with us or with Instacart or with anybody else,” Costco CFO Richard Galanti said during a recent call with investors.

The New Stranger Things Season 2 Trailer Is So Freaking Good

We are officially two weeks away from the premiere of the second season of Stranger Things, which will hit Netflix just in time for some Halloween streaming. Good thing, too, because it looks spooky as hell. Might want to turn off the porch lights so trick-or-treaters don't interfere with your binge sesh on this one. Praise Netflix for giving us two and a half minutes to hold us over, because these are going to be two long weeks.

Stranger Things 2 final trailer

Stranger Things 2 final trailer

It starts out with what we already know from previous trailers: Eleven is back. She's in the woods, and the boys might know she's there, because she retrieves a stack of Eggo waffles from a box that looks like it was left out for her. Also, Will is still seeing terrifying, Upside Down-style things.

"On Halloween night, Will saw, uh… a shadow," Mike says. The shadow is giant fingers or tentacles or something coming from the sky. Whatever it is, it looks bigger and scarier than the first season's Demogorgon, but Netflix already told us to expect a bigger, badder monster this time around.

We then see Hopper telling Will's mom, Joyce, "These are not nightmares. It's happening. And it all leads back here," as the camera cuts to an aerial view of the lab where Eleven was tested. Honestly, how is that place still standing after everything that went down last season, though? So many questions.

More: The 2017 Emmy Nominations Are in, & There Are a Few Surprises

Next, Joyce is talking to doctors while Will sits in the hallway of a hospital.

"This thing. You said it was all in his head. And what have you done? Nothing," she says, then yells, "What is wrong with my boy?!

Will undergoes some tests, then confides in Mike. "I don't understand," he says. Mike answers, "Eleven would."

Cut to Eleven racing through the woods. She is running with purpose. It looks like something’s chasing her until she uses her mind powers to unlock a door and break into a house. It kind of looks like Will’s house, but when the door flies open and reveals her standing there, her face does not say, “I’m here to be reunited with my buddies.” Fam, she is out for revenge blood.

Then the entire last minute is basically a montage of terrifying scenes of the monster and scientists and doctors and all the characters talking about how the world is ending, so yeah, we think it’s probably safe to assume this season is going to be intense. There’s also guns and yelling and everyone is in the Upside Down at one point. Gah, this is going to be a lot to take in.

24 Romantic Date Ideas That Go Far Beyond the Typical Dinner & a Movie

$

Date? What's a date? When you've been in a relationship forever and add kids and stressful jobs into the mix, putting forth the effort to orchestrate an actual "date night" sounds more like, well, work than an enjoying evening together. It's how we fall into habits like holing up on the couch and not leaving the house all weekend, or running and errands and doing chores together instead of going out for a night on the town. But as long as your enjoying a little quality time together, it shouldn't really matter what you're doing, right? Sorry, but the answer to that is a big fat "no."

According to psychologists, not only does it matter that you go out on dates, but it also matters what you do when you go out. Way back in 2008, Arthur Aron, a social psychology professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, told The New York Times that trying new things on dates can make for a more successful long-term relationship — because, brain science. The brain’s reward system, which is charged in the early stages of romance, may respond to the novelty of a totally random and fun date, triggering those gushy romantic feelings once again. In 2016, Chapman University researchers observed similar findings that translated into the bedroom — mixing things up could make for a more passionate long-term sex life.

Need we say more? Getting out of your routine may be just the kick in the pants your relationship needs. Here are plenty of fun date-night ideas to get you started.

Cheap, quick and easy

There’s nothing wrong with the cookie-cutter recipe of dinner and a movie — it works for a reason. But sometimes, a little creativity goes a long way.

  1. Farmers market shopping and dinner. “Shopping is a great way to get to know another person. You can learn about how they make choices, what they like to eat and how they handle money,” New York-based relationship expert April Masini says. “You’ll get clues as to whether they’re generous or stingy, impulsive or thoughtful, healthy or less so — all by having a great date that starts with a farmers market shopping trip and ends up with the two of you cooking a meal together back at one of your homes.”
  2. “Netflix and chill,” with a theme. Watch a movie marathon from a specific decade or a favorite actor, and try to keep your eyes on the screen.
  3. Text and seek. If you’re a longtime couple who really needs to shake things up, it may be time to make like a kid again. Shawn Schweier, personal development expert and life coach specializing in dating, suggests heading to the local mall for a silly game of hide and seek — using text messages or Snapchats to provide your partner with hints to your hiding place. The loser has to buy the first round of Orange Julius.
  4. Free museum tour. Most local museums offer free-admission days to draw a crowd, and many more museums and cultural institutions are opening their doors to the public for the Smithsonian magazine’s Museum Day Live! in 2016.
  5. Free art gallery openings. If you’re stumped for what to do on an upcoming night out, do a quick Google search to check for the latest gallery openings in a hip neighborhood in your town. “There’s no other date that screams hipster like those small evening gallery opening parties. They’re free to get into, and there is usually wine in plastic cups and crackers with cheese to set a date in motion. And then there’s the art — which is usually local and interesting,” Masini says.
  6. National park and a picnic. Depending on where you live, a national park should only be an hour or two away. And while this date can be done on the cheap, it may take some prep work to pull it all together. Masini says, “In any weather, a hike is grand, and a picnic with wine or Champagne and healthy food that you eat on a blanket on the ground, a picnic table in a designated eating area or at a park restaurant gives you a respite and opportunity to bask in nature and romance. Adventurous? Turn the date into camping overnight if your park supports that kind of fun.”
  7. Feed the ducks at a local park. And don’t forget to bring the day-old bread.
  8. Build a campfire and roast marshmallows. Classic, adorable and oh-so-easy. Just remember to check the local burn bans in your state.
  9. Stargazing. Schweier says, “Get in your car and grab your significant other and head to the country to stargaze. This one can also be done on the top of a free parking garage, but it is best experienced in the country compared to the city because there will be less lights. Get on top of the car with your partner and lie there with them, talking underneath the stars. This can really connect a couple and will leave a lasting memory for the both of you to reflect on.”
  10. Scrapbooking. Make a vow to turn off Instagram for the day and use a disposable camera to capture all your adventures about town. It’s only gonna cost you to develop the film, and you can finish your date by arranging the “old-school” hardcopy pics in a scrapbook album.
  11. Thrifting. Thrift stores are everywhere, and the finds can be so much cheaper than bona fide antiquing. Make things interesting by trying to see who can snag the weirdest — or most valuable — trinket.
  12. Pretend to be fancy. “In my city, we all knew the richest hotel in town. It was fancy and really high class. What people didn't know was that there was no reason you couldn't go and explore it,” Schweier says. “Have your partner dress up and then take them to the fanciest open hotel (you might want to scout this out first).” On a faux fancy date like this, you could have drinks by a fire, walk through a garden at sunset or take in breathtaking views, without having to book for the night.

Next Up: Not-so-cheap but still easy

Not-so-cheap but still easy

If you’re willing to invest a little more cash, you’ll be rewarded with a date night (or date day) you’ll never forget:

  1. Sign up for a 5K. As if sweating together wasn’t sexy enough, a typical 5K should only run you $20-$30 — and you get a free T-shirt.
  2. Sign up for a dance class. An old favorite like salsa dancing lessons is always a win, or try a line-dancing or urban dance class to push you right out of your comfort zone.
  3. Dinner and a fantasy. Taking dinner and a movie to the next level, sex and relationship expert Dr. Megan Stubbs suggests talking about your wildest fantasies over dinner and heading to an adult store after. Instead of spending money on an activity, save your budget for those new bedroom accessories you’ve always wanted to try.
  4. Dinner with a stranger. Speaking of bringing fantasies to life, Stubbs has another twist on the traditional dinner-and-a-movie date, and it involves the hottest kind of role-play. “Pretend to be strangers and pick each other up at the local bar,” she says.
  5. Coffee shop crawl. Because coffee shops are hipper than ever, and a sober date is always a good thing, take a morning or afternoon to try as many local coffee digs as you can. (And switch to decaf if things get too intense.)
  6. Fondue night. Forget the fancy fondue restaurants that are going to cost you an arm and a leg. You can do it all at home for the cost of a fondue pot and some fancy cheese or chocolate with something to dip in it. You can also scoop up a second-hand fondue pot at Goodwill if you’re stealthy enough. Pro tip: Try at least one run-through to master the consistency of your cheese, chocolate and hot oil courses before the big date.
  7. Afternoon adventure. Sometimes, reigniting that spark really is as simple as getting out of your familiar environment. Rosalind Sedacca, author and dating and relationship coach, says, “Take a local train ride to a scenic or historic area about an hour away from home. Stroll through the streets, pick up a sandwich lunch and picnic in a nearby park, visit the shops and galleries, then take the train back.” During a low-key afternoon getaway, you’re going to get plenty of time to talk and connect, while being stimulated by the people, sights and sounds.

Super-romantic splurges to save for a special occasion

With a birthday, anniversary or holiday coming up, it’s time to pull out the big guns.

  1. Rent an unbelievable Airbnb. The best part is, you don’t even have to leave your city to do this. Just increase your Airbnb filter prices and book that high-rise loft, luxury cabin or local mansion you’ve been drooling over.
  2. Get front-row concert tickets. If your partner’s been dying to see Metallica since middle school, this may be the time to drop a few Benjamins to score the best seats in the house.
  3. Have a spa day. Regardless of gender, any human is going to love being pampered from head-to-toe on your dime. Many spa facilities will allow you to bring your own wine, fruit and cheese to snack on in between treatments.
  4. Go skydiving. Even if you don’t consider yourself a thrill-seeker, that shared rush of adrenaline is sure to bond you for life. And if your partner happens to be an adventure junkie, seeing you take the plunge will be a huge turn-on.
  5. Take a wine tour. These days, wineries are everywhere, not just in lux spots like Napa Valley. If you have several wineries in your neck of the woods, consider booking an afternoon wine tour with tastings included, or pay to ride a wine tour bus.

No matter how much they deny them, Jesse Williams and Minka Kelly cannot shake rumors that their alleged relationship is what broke up Williams and his wife, Aryn Drake-Lee. They haven't even confirmed that they're dating, so maybe everyone should give it a rest.

Alas, that's not happening. A troll came at Kelly on her Instagram, commenting, "I hope the cheating rumors aren't true. It would be disappointing."

Good thing Kelly knows how to hold her own. She responded, "They're not. Hate for you to be disappointed. Glad I could clear that up for you. Now fuck off."

All the praise hands for Kelly right now. The woman deserves some peace from all this. Both she and Williams have denied over and over that he cheated on Drake-Lee with her, yet people keep bringing it up. It's exhausting, and it's perpetuating the annoying Hollywood trope that says women are always to blame for breakups. It's beyond time to let that idea die, so thanks to Kelly for doing her part to shut up the people who keep it alive.

Reports that Williams and Kelly are dating have been swirling for a few months, and the two have been seen together in public, but neither of them has definitively commented on their alleged relationship. The closest they've come was Williams' appearance on Jay-Z's 4:44, where it sounded like he was denying that he was dating Kelly — and he definitely was denying the cheating rumors.

"I was in a relationship 13 years. 13 real years, not five years, not seven years — 13 years. And all of a sudden motherfuckers are writing think pieces that I somehow threw a 13-year relationship, like the most painful experience I’ve had in my life, like with a person I’ve loved with all of my heart, that I threw a person and my family in the trash because a girl I work with is cute," he said on the recording.

Regardless, Williams and his estranged wife have been separated for some time as they continue to move through a messy custody battle. Since they're no longer together, he has every right to date without all this scrutiny and hate.

We’re in the season of fall-themed lattes, and there’s a lot of pumpkin, cinnamon and vanilla happening — but have you ever wished someone would spice things up a bit?

Well, Tim Horton’s is — literally. The Canadian chain, which also has 94 locations in the U.S., has launched a latte topped with Buffalo sauce seasoning.

Unfortunately, there’s only one place you can get this latte. Buffalo, New York, naturally.

These spicy new lattes even require special machinery, and the Tim Horton's Buffalo locations were also the first to try out the company's new espresso machines. The fancy new espresso machines, "where milk is steamed until frothy and the espresso is more potent than the previously tepid mix," rolled out last month according to the Buffalo News. This stronger, bolder coffee will be the base for the Buffalo latte, which is made from freshly brewed espresso, steamed milk, mocha and bold Buffalo sauce flavor. The latte is then topped with whipped topping and a dusting of zesty Buffalo seasoning.

"The unlikely pairing of sweet mocha and tangy Buffalo sauce come together to create an unexpectedly delicious sweet and spicy treat we hope our guests will enjoy," said Stephen Goldstein, the chain's U.S. president, in a press release.

If going spicy with your coffee isn’t what you want, they will still have all their traditional flavors like mocha, pumpkin and vanilla.

Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt Want You to Meet Their Son ASAP

Speidi has spawned. After what seemed like a three-year gestation period, the infamous reality TV couple from The Hills finally have their baby — Gunner Stone, who arrived on Oct. 1 (Yes, they named their son Gunner on the day of the Las Vegas mass shooting. So there's that.)

Pratt told Us Weekly that he heard one of the hospital doctors refer to Gunner as "a superbaby." Because it's not like Pratt was busy doing anything else during Gunner's birth; it's not like he was scurrying around the delivery room with $27,000 worth of crystals or anything. Just kidding, he totally was. “He’s running in, putting these huge crystals all over,” Montag explained to Us. “It was mayhem!” Sounds like it.

Montag also explained to Us, “Gunner has been on my top names since before Spencer even agreed to have kids. We went back and forth, but it just seemed like the best fit.” Well, then. Papa Pratt posted their exclusive Us Weekly cover as a trio on his Instagram as soon as humanly possible, of course. As did Mama Montag — and Gunner's own personal Instagram account. Yep, that exists already.

Pratt wanted to name him Gunner because Pratt's crystals apparently gave him some insight into his son's future career as a star baseball pitcher or an Olympic mogul skier. So why didn't they name him Pitcher or Mogul? We asked ourselves the same thing.

“He’ll probably be a pitcher, so when Gunner steps to the mound, he’s going to be gunning those throws down home plate,” Pratt told Us Weekly. “If he wants to be a skier, he’s going to be gunning down those moguls. It just applies to a lot of sports.”

No pressure, Gunner, but we'd start hitting the gym pretty quickly if we were you. Hope you don't blow out your ACL by pre-K.

You may think we're kidding, but alas, Spencer continued to the magazine, "You’re not a good parent if you’re not trying to get your son set up to potentially get a $250 million gig. If doctors were getting paid $250 million, we’d hit the books hard, but currently that’s not the reality.”

You heard it here, folks.

Bet you think that was all Pratt Daddy had to say on the topic of his newborn. Nope! Papa has even decided which arm he wants his son to pitch with. “Probably baseball, a left-handed pitcher. I only want him to work a few days for $30 million or so. As cool as an NFL quarterback would be, it would just be hard for me to watch people smash my son and not run onto the field and smash them.”

You may also recall that Speidi's nemesis from The Hills, Lauren Conrad, beat them to the punch by birthing a baby boy, Liam, in July. “Hopefully they’re on rival sports teams. That’s what I'm looking forward to,” says Pratt, who really, really needs to expand his hobbies.

But back to Mama. For years — uh, months — Heidi has been living the pregnancy high life on Instagram, and we're fully expecting a steady stream of postpartum photos to kick in any day now. Given the epic nature of Montag's maternity shots, Gunner has big Instagram shoes to fill.

The classic tree mermaid pregnancy pic, right? Heidi captioned it, "I can’t believe I was just pregnant! @gunnerpratt wanted to come early! Pregnancy was such a blessing! Now I have my angel!"

As mentioned, Gunner already has his own Instagram account with more followers than any of us will ever have in this lifetime: 285,000 and counting. For real.

Good luck, Gunner. We're rooting for you, on and off the field. And we kind of hope you become a sports-loathing artist with massive earlobe plugs and a hatred of crystals. Because that would be fun to watch.

As a Person With a Disability, I Find Sex Empowering

I was never that bothered about sex before I discovered I was disabled. Suddenly, when sex became problematic and it seemed as though my illness might prevent me from having it, I realized how much I’d missed out on. Instead of savoring my orgasms and enjoying the physical side of a relationship, I’d put sex on the back burner and assumed that one day I’d be having more of it. I didn’t realize then that as a disabled person, sex can be empowering.

Finding out you have a lifelong, chronic and potentially degenerative illness is a shock to the system. Sex wasn’t the only issue on my mind when I was diagnosed just after my 30th birthday, but it bubbled under the surface, begging to be considered. While I prioritized starting treatment and learning to manage my condition (relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis), I knew I wasn’t ready to give up on sex. However, some medical professionals borderline shamed my interest in it.

More: Overcoming the Stigma Surrounding Disability & Sex

One therapist suggested that companionship should be enough for someone in my position, especially as all relationships head that way in the end. According to her, I was too demanding, particularly as my illness seemed to be responsible for the majority of the issues in my relationship (according to her). But sex still felt essential, like a Netflix show everyone else was raving about but my subscription had lapsed.

That's why when I started having more sex with my new partner, it was a revelation. Not only was I experiencing a side of life that I hadn’t had much access to before, I was also learning to understand my body better. MS has changed me in many ways, making my sensation unpredictable and pain a daily constant. But having sex in spite of my health issues was empowering and a chance to seize control over a part of my life I thought I’d lost.

During my first major relapse, I lost sensation in my legs, which led to me losing my orgasm. As a result, I was majorly concerned that I’d never orgasm again and that a whole aspect of life was suddenly off limits to me. But thanks to sex with my new partner, sensation returned and I learned to orgasm within the limitations of the new confines of my body.

Fighting against disease and finding a way to climax despite nerve damage was incredibly empowering and made me more positive about my future. Since my body could achieve pleasure again, MS didn’t feel like a life sentence, as there were still aspects of life I could enjoy.

Before diagnosis, sex was a part of myself I’d not really explored yet. While my body is different now following multiple MS relapses leading to reduced mobility, sex is definitely better than ever. And perhaps, most important, I’ve found a partner who wants to explore sexuality with me. Instead of focusing on good old-fashioned intercourse, sex is about so much more now and is rarely halted by multiple sclerosis. Because sex isn’t just penetration; vibrators, lube and touching all aid the sexual experience, particularly as I’ve struggled with loss of sensation and numbness.

Sex isn’t important to everybody, and that’s OK. But for me, it’s a part of my life that’s developed post-diagnosis. Sex makes me feel physically stronger and more connected to my body (despite its many faults) and reminds me that I’m still capable of so much.
