Gwyneth Paltrow & Angelina Jolie Tell Their Harvey Weinstein Stories

$

On Thursday Oct. 5, The New York Times dropped a bombshell expose detailing three decades of sexual harassment and assault allegations against one of Hollywood's most powerful men: film producer Harvey Weinstein. After a group of brave women came forward for that piece, including actor Ashley Judd and a handful of Weinstein's former assistants, more women are speaking out. What makes these testimonies even more notable is that some of them are the most respected A-list actors working today.

In a new article published on Tuesday Oct. 10, The New York Times included stories from Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie, both of whom claim they were sexually harassed by Weinstein early in their careers.

For Paltrow, it was when she was just 22 and Weinstein had cast her in Emma, her breakout role. She says he invited her into his hotel room and suggested they move to the bedroom for massages. "I was a kid, I was signed up, I was petrified," she said. "I thought he was going to fire me."

Instead, Paltrow says she confided in Brad Pitt, whom she was dating at the time, and that later, Weinstein warned her not to tell anyone else about the incident.

Jolie, on the other hand, didn't share many details.

"I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did," she told the Times in an email. "This behavior towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable."

What's disheartening is that it took these women, some of the most powerful in Hollywood, so long to come forward. The fact that they didn't share their stories until they had the safety in numbers that came from the dozens of other accusations levied against Weinstein illustrates how difficult it is for women to speak out against their abusers, particularly when their abusers are in positions of power over them.

Since all these allegations came to light, Weinstein has been fired from his company.

Harvey Weinstein's Wife Georgina Chapman Announces She's Leaving Him

Harvey Weinstein's wife Georgina Chapman isn't standing by his side in the midst of his sexual assault scandal. She's leaving him.

More: Harvey Weinstein Was Fired From His Own Company

In a statement issued to People, Chapman explained, "My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time."

Weinstein and Chapman were married in 2007 and share two young children, daughter India Pearl Weinstein, 7, and son Dashiell Weinstein, 4.

After news broke that Harvey Weinstein had been accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, the movie mogul said his wife was standing by his side.

"She stands 100 percent behind me. Georgina and I have talked about this at length," Weinstein told The New York Post. "We went out with [attorney] Lisa Bloom last night when we knew the article was coming out. Georgina will be with Lisa and others kicking my ass to be a better human being and to apologize to people for my bad behavior, to say I’m sorry, and to absolutely mean it."

More: A Timeline of Harvey Weinstein's Life in Hollywood

Well, Weinstein was right about one thing. His wife will be with Bloom, in that Bloom also left Weinstein's team earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the list of Hollywood women who have come forward as victims is growing. Both Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie spoke out to say Weinstein was inappropriate with them. Actresses Mira Sorvino and Rosanna Arquette also came forward, claiming they were denied film opportunities because they denied Weinstein's advances.

Hollywood men are also being looped into the scandal. Former writer for The Times, Sharon Waxman said she tried to expose Weinstein's misconduct years ago, but the story was shut down by her editors. She even claims to have received calls from Matt Damon and Russell Crowe, who spoke on Weinstein's behalf.

Damon was quick to respond and shoot down any claims of his involvement in a Weinstein coverup.

Imagine if Lucy Ricardo decided she didn't want to be a 1950s housewife anymore. What then?

Well, that's basically the premise for the new Amazon comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The show is brought to you by Gilmore Girls' creator Amy Sherman-Palladino about an early 1960s housewife who turns to stand-up comedy to cope after her husband leaves her.

The series has already been picked up for two seasons as part of a deal Sherman-Palladino has inked with Amazon.

"I'm sorry, but look at me!" Maisel, who goes by Midge, says during a standup bit in the trailer as she mourns her separation. "Who wouldn't want to come home to this every night?"

Actress Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Maisel, said she channeled some familiar female comedians, including Joan Rivers, to prepare for the role.

And though there are some story similarities, Brosnahan said during an interview with Vanity Fair that the two ladies are very different. "Joan’s comedy came from a place of feeling like she never belonged. She always referred to herself as the ugly duckling. Midge is the opposite. She knows she is beautiful; she knows she is great at what she does, and she will be the first to tell you about it."

Midge is also funny. The trailer is a spectacle of humor and girl confidence that's hard to resist. The show promises, not just laughs, but also heart.

"It is a show about a woman, being written, directed, and executive produced by a woman and hopefully future directors to come," Brosnahan said. This Is the Church Hollywood's Most Elite Attend

Scientology isn’t the only church that has a way of attracting celebrities through its doors. Another church, Hillsong Church, is doing exactly this, and considering it's slowly getting more popular, it’s high time we take a deeper look at this Christian institution. In fact, Hillsong Church is an institution we're going to explore with a bit of intrigue and curiosity; why is this church gaining so much visibility in the entertainment and culture sections of our favorite publications?

More: 9 Things Chris Pratt's Done Since Announcing His Split From Anna Faris

As it happens, Hillsong is incredibly popular with a whole host of celebrities and is quickly becoming the No. 1 place for those celebrities to practice and celebrate their Christian faith. In a special way, those celebs who are members of one of the 19 Hillsong congregations worldwide are bringing a refreshing visibility to Christian celebs we already know and love.

Let's take a closer look at Hillsong Church, shall we?

What is Hillsong Church?

According to the church's website, Hillsong Church began as a single church in 1983 based in Sydney, Australia and was founded by senior pastors Brian Houston and his wife, Bobbie. From that single church, the couple has built a vast media empire to spread their message, including "three record labels, a film and television platform, multiple worldwide conferences, and an international college."

Hillsong boasts an impressive worldwide congregation. According to their website, every week, the church estimates around 100,000 people attend services at one of their 19 churches spread across five continents, including Russia, Norway, the United States, South Africa, Ukraine and Israel. This congregation follows Brian and Bobbie's interpretations of Christianity and the foundational beliefs of Hillsong Church (fairly standard Christian principles, one might add), including the belief that "the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our everyday lives," as well as "that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptised in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit," and also in "the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together for fellowship, prayer and the ‘breaking of bread’."

The church has grown enormously over the last three-plus decades. With music, podcasts, books, multiple conferences held on a variety of topics and even Brian's sermons being broadcast globally and so much more, the message of Hillsong is far-reaching — and that reach extends to Hollywood.

Which celebs are actually attending services?

Some of your favorite Hollywood actors, singers, models and celebs are coming out to Hillsong's Los Angeles and New York City locations on the regular. One of the most famous faces to recently attend a service was Chris Pratt, who was spotted in mid-September 2017 heading into Hillsong in Los Angeles.

Perhaps one of the most famous attendees is Justin Bieber, who has become a visible presence at services of late. Bieber's been spotted hanging out with one of Hillsong's lead pastors, Carl Lentz. Bieber stated earlier in 2017 that he wanted to devote more time to his faith and made headlines when he canceled his Purpose tour, allegedly in order to do just that. All things considered, though, Bieber has become a fixture at Hillsong and one might liken him the celebrity face of this prominent church.

Interestingly, a few of Bieber's ex-girlfriends have also been spotted attending services at Hillsong, although that's likely as much down to their vocal confirmation of their Christian faith as Bieber's influence. According to The Observer, Selena Gomez was spotted at the NYC Hillsong location, possibly attending a service. Additionally, model Hailey Baldwin, who herself is quite open about her deep and abiding faith, has also been seen attending Hillsong services and did so with besties Kendall and Kylie Jenner at one point.

Speaking of Jenners, Kylie and Kendall's step-sister, Kourtney Kardashian, is also reportedly a regular attendee of Hillsong. Kardashian was spotted in August 2017 heading to and from a Hillsong service in Los Angeles with her current flame, model Younes Bendjima and again as recently as mid-September 2017.

Of course, Gomez has something in common with Vanessa Hudgens, and it's not just the fact that they're former Disney stars; Hudgens is a Hillsong parishioner as well, and has made note of her attendance on Instagram.

According to Refinery29, other famous Hillsong parishioners include Pitch Perfect 2 and 3 star Hailee Steinfeld, NBA stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and Nick Jonas.

What's the verdict on Hillsong Church?

Fear not about the magnetic pull of Hillsong Church; it's not like that other famous center of religion that has reeled in many a celeb over the years. Instead, Hillsong is bringing modern Christian ideals into the forefront, and it would appear that its platform and the various artistic mediums being used to transmit its message are ringing true with some of Hollywood's most famous faces. There's no doubt that as time goes on, Hillsong's presence in pop culture will expand; it will be interesting to see which other celebrities become a part of this popular church's congregation as that expansion continues.

Olivia Wilde Posts Hospital Flashback Pic for Daughter's First Birthday

Actor Olivia Wilde couldn't help but get nostalgic on her daughter Daisy's first birthday this week — in humorous style. Wilde posted a funny thank-you note to her doctors and nurses at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. The image featured herself smiling and flashing her middle finger from her hospital bed one year ago just after the epidural kicked in.

She captioned the post, “Daisy's birth was a little bit complicated and I'm deeply grateful for Sharlene Pope, Dr Caitlin Fiss, Nurse Helen O'Keeffe, and the whole life-saving team at Mount Sinai hospital in Manhattan. Together we pushed out a gorgeous almost 10 lb baby lady.”

Wilde and SNL alum Jason Sudeikis are parents to both Daisy and son Otis, who was born in 2014.

Wilde also posted a more serious birthday message to Daisy along with a photo of the little girl peering out a window. We admit it. We got more than a little misty-eyed reading the tribute.

Wilde wrote, "My curious, courageous one, I promise we'll work hard to make this place better for you and your sisters everywhere. We've taken some hits recently, but I believe we are even more determined because of it. We dream of a time when you won't have to apologize for your brilliance, or sacrifice your self-respect to prove your worthiness. This world is yours, kiddo. We're just the cleanup crew. I love you. Happy birthday. #internationaldayofthegirl.”

Wilde's been loving up her kids on Instagram recently, also posting a very sweet black and white shot of herself giving a kiss to her son — on the lips. Mommy-shamers were out in full force with that one, decrying the sweet smooch. Really, people?

But most followers came to her defense immediately. One wrote, "You know what I just read? about eight hundred different people who are of the same opinion as me: great photo and beautiful. Then one or two lunatics who obviously did NOT get enough love from their own parents growing up, so somehow think this is weird and sick."

Another wrote, "I can't love this enough."

Neither can we. Wilde is clearly a fantastic, thoughtful mama — what's not to love?

Feminist Halloween Costumes for Your Kid

There's no denying it: We're looking at the tail end of a politically charged year. And 2017 kids are likely a lot more aware of the fraught sociopolitical climate surrounding them than, say, 2010 kids were. If you're a parent, you may be fielding kids' questions about racism, sexism and bigotry more often than you'd like. But keep those answers coming, because honest discussion is the only way we can hope to foster a new generation of open-minded, educated, empowered, free-thinking intersectional feminists. Well, that and Halloween costumes.

Why not? There's no reason kids can't turn this holiday of dress-up and make-believe into a fun and educational chance to embody a powerful woman — real or imagined — who's got strength and smarts in spades. At the very least, it'll be a welcome switch from princesses and fairies.

And hey, even if you can’t fully explain to your baby quite yet what it means to believe in full equality for all genders, religions, orientations, races and abilities, you can at least snap a photo so you can tell them all about it in a few years. Here, 10 feminist costume ideas even the tiniest nasty women will love.

Frida Kahlo

Artist Frida Kahlo used her creative medium to bring awareness to a variety of issues — such as gender, class, race and identity — in the early- to mid-20th century. If your heart is still aching with Mexico as it recovers from the earthquake that ravaged its capital, encourage a toddler to pay tribute to the country's history with this simple (and beautiful!) Halloween costume.

Suffragette

When women were protesting the right to vote in the suffrage movement of the 1920s, eventually resulting in the 19th Amendment, many proudly displayed their ‘Votes for Women’ sashes. Even though an 8-month-old gal might have to wait another 17 years and four months before she can cast her selection for president, reaffirm the importance of exercising her constitutional rights early with a "suffragette" onesie she can wear on Halloween and all year long. Have an older kiddo? Transform her into the infamous leader of the suffrage movement, Susan B. Anthony, with this traditional costume.

Nasty Woman

You might think the hoopla surrounding the "nasty woman" movement has died down, but many would argue that this is only the beginning. This onesie will be a timeless standby costume that can be passed down from sister to brother and beyond. Accessorize at will with pink pussy hat, "I'm Still With Her" button — go wild.

Rosie the Riveter

During World War II, Rosie the Riveter represented the expanding female workforce that filled in for men at factories and shipyards when the men were sent abroad. Though the battle for equal pay and opportunity for women continues, iconic Rosie remains a cultural representation that jump-started the feminist movement during that time period. And if you’re not handy with a sewing machine, you’ll appreciate the ease of this costume, which comes complete with everything you need to make a riveter out of the kid in your life.

Audre Lorde

Best known as a civil rights activist and feminist, writer and poet Audre Lorde used her words to make waves. Through writing, she tackled social injustices impacting the black community. This toddler-size shirt could raise some eyebrows and jump-start important conversations about race today.

The First Female President

Of all the hopes you have for the kids in your life, you probably hope they'll witness much more progress in their lifetime ahead — compared to the few years they've been on Earth so far. This to-the-point "Future President" tee for toddlers tells them they can be whomever they want to be, haters be damned. Accessorize with a tiny suit jacket — and bonus points if you and a partner dress up as bodyguards.

For a modern take on feminism, let the budding musician in your life sing her heart out as one of the most iconic strong women of our time. Thanks to Beyoncé's powerful lyrics, activism and sheer talent, this award-winning superstar is a Halloween (and everyday) role model for any kid. With some braids, jewelry and a hat, kiddo will be Lemonade-ready.

Gloria Steinem

A black turtleneck and glasses is definitely the lazy-girl's feminist Halloween costume, but who wouldn't want to be Gloria Steinem for a day? Since the 1960s, Steinem has remained a pivotal leader in the feminist movement, founding Ms. magazine and writing/speaking all over the place. There's no better Halloween treat than political debate, right?

Sonia Sotomayor

If you have a talker on your hands — questioning everything and always seeking truth — encourage them to pursue a path to the courthouse via this inspiring (and majorly easy) costume. Sonia Sotomayor has served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 2009. She also happens to be the first justice of Hispanic heritage and the first Latina, as well as the third female. Talk about a role model!

Hermione Granger

Who said all heroines need to be real? Getting lost in the magical world of Hogwarts isn’t difficult for most kids, since many would love to have the power to fly, be invisible or cast spells. But while there are plenty of reasons to adore Harry Potter, an easy in for parents or caregivers who want to teach about feminism without getting too deep is the character of Hermione Granger. Independent, brave and tenacious, this witch's spirit will make Halloween that much more exciting.

Regardless of whether you go with a classic or modern take on feminism, encouraging another gaggle of bra-burners to be confident and kick ass isn't just about the costume they wear on Halloween. It's a look they can sport — and rock — for the rest of their lives. Trick or treat or smashing the patriarchy? Both, we hope.

These days, we’re seeing all the chains fighting over variants of chicken tenders or spicy dipping sauces, but no one is really doing anything that out there. Except, that is, for Arby’s.

Last year, Arby’s test-launched a limited-edition venison sandwich in five states. It was so popular that it's returned, and now you can get it everywhere.

Starting Saturday, Oct. 21, the sandwich is available nationwide, but in limited supply. That day, they will also launch a limited-edition elk sandwich, available in three restaurants in the popular elk-hunting states of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

“The positive response to our limited offering of venison last year was so widespread and passionate that we knew we had to find a way to offer it nationwide,” Jim Taylor, chief marketing officer of Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc., said in a press release. “On October 21, we want hunters and meat enthusiasts across the country to visit their local Arby’s and enjoy this amazing sandwich. It’s a perfect example of the level of innovation coming from our teams and our commitment to creating experiences that guests can only get at Arby’s.”

The Arby’s venison sandwich is made up of a thick-cut venison steak and crispy onions topped with a juniper berry sauce on a toasted specialty roll. The venison is marinated in garlic, salt and pepper and then sous-vide for three hours, which Arby’s says leads to “juicy, tender perfection.” The juniper berry sauce is a cabernet steak sauce infused with juniper berries.

Gwyneth Paltrow Offers Moving Message to Daughter After Weinstein Allegations

Oscar winner and Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow isn't about to let Harvey Weinstein's douchebaggery keep her down. Paltrow spoke out on Tuesday about how Weinstein sexually harassed and threatened her when she was 22. At that young age, Paltrow had just been hired by Weinstein to play the lead in Emma; Weinstein allegedly touched Paltrow and asked her for a massage.

Paltrow's allegation is just one of many that have gotten Weinstein sacked from his massive production company this week. (Weinstein maintains that all relations with women coming forward to speak against him were consensual. A number of actors, like Matt Damon, have expressed shock and denied any prior knowledge of Weinstein's vile behavior.)

But the day after her story broke, Paltrow took to Instagram to post a sweet selfie with her daughter, Apple, 13, in honor of the International Day of the Girl. “Everything I do in my life I do for this girl (and her brother),” Paltrow wrote in the caption. The mother of two also has son Moses, 11, with ex-husband and "conscious uncoupled" partner Chris Martin of Coldplay.

During a week of such grim news about the treatment of women in Hollywood by men in power positions, it's a joy to hear celebrity moms celebrating their strong daughters. Paltrow also spoke to Harper's Bazaar about Apple for its November cover story. “I actually don’t need to encourage her to take risks. She likes to push herself; she wants to see how far she can get. It’s really inspiring to see that in a young woman.”

We commend Paltrow on joining other women in speaking out against Weinstein's actions, and we celebrate the strong daughter Paltrow is raising. Apple is growing up in a world where harassment and assault of women is far too common — but here's hoping she sees the day when it stops, period.

James Van Der Beek Bravely Comes Forward With His Story of Sexual Assault

As more and more women come forward with stories of the times they were sexually harassed and assaulted by disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, it's a good time to remind ourselves that women are not the only people who can be victims of sexual assault. Men can be targeted too; according to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, 1 in every 10 victims of sexual violence is male.

More: All the Celebrities Who Have Accused Harvey Weinstein of Sexual Misconduct — So Far

It's also important to start realizing that Weinstein is not the only alleged prolific abuser in Hollywood. It's been a largely ignored "secret" that the industry is absolutely rife with sexism and mistreatment basically for as long as it's existed.

Now, as we're all starting to realize how pervasive this really is, men are starting to come forward and tell their sexual assault stories. James Van Der Beek just revealed in a series of tweets that, throughout his career, he's been groped and harassed, and he never felt he could speak out about it because the people assaulting him had more power in the industry than he did. Doesn't this story sound familiar?

"What Weinstein is being accused of is criminal. What he’s admitted to is unacceptable - in any industry. I applaud everybody speaking out," Van Der Beek wrote. "I’ve had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I’ve had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger. I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There’s a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome."

While Van Der Beek's tweets are going viral, he's not the first man to speak out about being assaulted since the Weinstein news broke. Terry Crews shared his story, also in a string of tweets, about an unnamed "high level Hollywood executive" who groped him at a function in front of his wife. Crews says the exec apologized to him, but he didn't pursue any further justice because he was afraid of being ostracized and losing work.

Is Christina Applegate's Cancer-Preventing Surgery A Good Option?

Following her 2008 diagnosis of breast cancer, Christina Applegate decided to get a double mastectomy. Nine years later, she revealed that she has taken another major step toward cancer prevention and had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as well.

Speaking exclusively to Today.com, Applegate said that her cousin died of ovarian cancer in 2008, which led to the realization that she could prevent that from happening to her too.

“That’s how I’ve taken control of everything,” she said in the interview. “It’s a relief. That’s one thing off the table.”

MoreHow to Tell When Pelvic Pain Could Be Ovarian Cancer

Applegate went on to say, “if you’re BRCA positive, it’s highly possible you’ll develop cancer in your lifetime,” and suggested eating organic foods and trying to reduce stress in your life as other ways to help take control of your health.

Aware that not everyone can afford BRCA tests, Applegate founded Right Action for Women, which assists at-risk women who may otherwise be unable to pay for MRI screenings and BRCA testing.

“We’re at this place where we need to sit down and figure out the future of what it is that we’re doing and get into more of the BRCA tests for women,” Applegate told Today.com. “That’s a huge cost for a lot of people who don’t have perfect insurance. If you do know you have the gene, it gives you an empowerment about your lifestyle.”

What doctors want you to know about this procedure

Women, like Applegate, with a family history of ovarian cancer may have an increased risk of getting ovarian cancer, says Dr. Marc Winter, an OB-GYN at Saddleback Medical Center in Laguna Hills, Calif.

"We know that genetics can play a significant role in risk, and that women who carry the BRACA gene are at a very high risk – between 30 and 80 percent depending on the gene type and individual risk factors," he adds.

For those who may not test positive for the BRACA gene, if a woman has a first degree relative (meaning a mother or sister) with ovarian cancer, her life risk increases from about 1.4 percent to five percent, Winters says, and with a five percent risk "it makes statistical sense to remove ovaries and fallopian tubes."

Unfortunately, Winter notes, testing for at-risk women – specifically, the blood test for tumor markers like CA 125 and pelvic ultrasound – is not reliable in picking up early cancers. As a result, the only intervention that has been shown to reduce the long-term risk in these patients is a prophylactic surgery, which is the removal of an organ or gland (in this case, the ovaries and fallopian tubes) that show no signs of cancer, in an attempt to prevent cancer.

While there are always risks to surgery, Winters explains, they are very small compared to the risk of developing cancer in BRACA carriers: The risk of major complications with hysterectomy is approximately one percent, compared to their 40 to 80 percent risk of developing cancer.

"In my experience," Winter says, "women are relived after surgery that their risk of developing ovarian cancer is not something that will keep them up at night."

Meanwhile, the elective removal of ovaries as a preventative measure is not new. In fact, the procedure was previously very common during a routine hysterectomy. The idea behind this is that as long as doctors were in the area and the patient was having major surgery and would no longer have a uterus, they also wouldn’t need their ovaries, so they might as well be removed to prevent risk of ovarian cancer. However, that standard of care has been changing, and now, doctors only recommend removing the ovaries during a hysterectomy if there is a family history of ovarian cancer.

Seth Rogen's Mom Is All 2017 Moms: She Tracked Him Down on Twitter

How do we love Seth Rogen's mom, Sandy? Let us count the ways. And the tweets.

In case you didn't know, Seth Rogen's mother, a social worker in Canada, is freaking hilarious — in the best cringe-y sort of mom way. On a good day, she's all over Twitter saying the kind of deep-thoughts stuff so many middle-aged moms aspire to: "There is nothing like new windshield wipers?" and "What is a Brazilian wax called in Brazil?"

US Weekly reports that Rogen talked about his mom's candor back in 2012 in an interview. "My mom... talks about sex way too much! She will literally post on her Facebook about pap smears she has just got." We feel your pain, Seth.

MoreSeth Rogen's Best Hilarious Quotes

Sandy has also skeeved out her offspring — Seth and his sister Danya — with a tweet meditation about, uh, her relations: “Falling asleep after sex is like shavasana after yoga,” Sandy told all of Twitter, all of whom pretty much died laughing at Rogen's retweet and response: "Jesus fucking Christ mom." His sis Danya reported that she "actually gagged."

Oh, and in case you're still not convinced that Sandy is one special internet mom: She has also commended Rogen's joint-rolling on Twitter.

Most recently, Sandy hit up Twitter this week because Rogen, in true millennial son fashion, wasn't responding to her calls. So, naturally, she put out a social media APB ("@sethrogen where are you?"), which Rogen retweeted along with the caption, "When you don't answer your mom's phone calls for a day."

Followers, including the official Twitter account, asked Sandy, “Did you find him?” Some had suggestions for keeping tabs on her slippery son.

Kelly Ripa's Getting Body-Shamed, & It's Really Ridiculous

Fans of Live with Kelly and Ryan should have been delighted when they got a little peep behind the scenes on the show's Instagram yesterday. In a video posted before Wednesday's show, Ryan Seacrest knocked on co-host Kelly Ripa's dressing room door before the show because she was running late. He then led her to the stage, where they emerged to cheers from their studio audience.

Cute, right?

It should be. Except people in the comments cannot stop dragging Ripa for the dress she was wearing.

For the record, the dress looked great. It's a super-form-fitting, long-sleeved gray dress made of some kind of pretty thin material, so it hugs Ripa's bangin' body like a glove. But seriously, that woman would look great in a potato sack. If only the internet could stop ripping her apart for long enough to see that.

"The dress is horrible," one commenter wrote.

"Kelly is one super fit lady but please stop wearing outfits like this, they are not flattering on you!!" commented another.

"Sorry, no to the dress, pretty hair.." wrote yet another.

But the winning comment of the day was from one particularly helpful "fan," who wrote, "Kelly you are amazing and beautiful but just you need a push-up bra."

No, sir or madam, you need a hobby that doesn't include critiquing people's undergarment choices on the internet.

At the end of the day, Ripa is going to keep rocking at life regardless of what some haters have to say about her dress. But jeez, people, can we quit with the tearing women down online for their looks/clothes? It's very 2016 and we need to do better things with our time.

With Friday the 13th falling so deliciously close to Halloween this year, you can expect an added dose of horror coming your way this weekend.

More: M&M’s Launches New Flavor Just in Time for Halloween

The last time Friday the 13th fell in October was back in 2006, over a decade ago, and some eery things did occur. New York issued a state of emergency in Buffalo after heavy snowfall caused 400,000 people to lose power and schools to close. Even scarier, the Democratic Republic of Congo had an outbreak of the pneumonic plague, killing over 100 people and infecting hundreds more according to The People History.

Moral of the story? Maybe stay inside. Curl up with a nice glass of wine and watch something terrifying on your TV screen instead of risking the unlucky day.

All The Celebrities Who Have Accused Harvey Weinstein of Sexual Misconduct — So Far

Last week, The New York Times published an exhaustive expose on decadeslong sexual harassment allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. At the time, the publication detailed how the disgraced film executive had paid off at least eight women. And in the time since, even more women have come forward with shocking stories of abuse.

Weinstein's victims run the gamut from fleeting assistants to models to top Hollywood talent — all sharing a similar narrative of the ways Weinstein forced himself upon them or tried to coerce them into sexual acts.

As the story continues to unfold, another pattern emerges: that of an extremely powerful, wealthy man using his influence and means to silence any woman who would dare speak out against him. Only now, emboldened by the Times expose, these women are coming forward.

Slowly but surely, the stories are beginning to surface with increasing frequency. Below are the accounts of all the women who were allegedly subjected to his sexually deviant behavior.

1. Ashley Judd

The Times expose opened with a powerful story about Ashley Judd when, two decades ago, she was allegedly invited to Weinstein's Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel room. A young actor at the time, she assumed it was for a business breakfast meeting. However, when she arrived, she claims she found Weinstein waiting in a bathrobe. He asked her for a massage or if she could watch him shower. "How do I get out of the room as fast as possible without alienating Harvey Weinstein?" Judd told the Times she remembers thinking.

For Variety's Women in Power Issue in 2015, Judd previously shared the story of her encounter, albeit without mentioning Weinstein by name. In detail, the actor described how one of the industry's most famous movie moguls had lured her into his hotel room and made sexual advances on her. At the time, she told Variety, "This will be familiar to all the women to whom this has happened. I have a feeling we are a legion."

2. Rose McGowan

The Times piece also identified Rose McGowan, who starred in the Weinstein-distributed 1996 film Scream, as a victim. A legal document reviewed by the Times revealed that the then-23-year-old actor had reached a $100,00 settlement with Weinstein over an incident in a hotel room during the Sundance Film Festival. The legal document reportedly underscored that it was "not to be construed as an admission" by Weinstein but intended to "avoid litigation and buy peace."

In October of 2016, McGowan alluded to her abuse, tweeting, "Because my ex sold our movie to my rapist for distribution #WhyWomenDontReport." Although McGowan doesn't specifically reference Weinstein by name, her film Planet Terror was distributed by Weinstein in 2007. And at the time she made the movie, she was dating filmmaker Robert Rodriguez.

McGowan, who has for years been vocal about the problems in the industry, has become the voice of the Weinstein resistance since the Times piece went live. In addition to calling for the dissolution of The Weinstein Company's entire board for what she says is its complicity in covering up Weinstein's behavior, McGowan continues to bring to light her story as well as the stories of other women who were victimized by Weinstein.

 3. Asia Argento

In an investigative piece by Ronan Farrow, the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, Italian actor and director Asia Argento revealed that Weinstein forced oral sex on her. At the time, she was working on the film B. Monkey, which was released in 1999 in the U.S. by Miramax. She was 21 and a rising actor when she was invited to what she was led to believe was a Miramax party at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc on the French Riviera. However, when she arrived, there was no party — just Weinstein. At one point, Weinstein left the room and returned in a bathrobe with a bottle of lotion, asking Argento for a massage. At first, she resisted, she said, but eventually reluctantly agreed. It was then that Weinstein allegedly pushed her skirt up, forced her legs apart and performed oral sex on her as she pleaded for him to stop.

On Twitter this week, Argento shared a clip of a film she directed in 1999 that mirrored her experience with Weinstein. Also supporting her story is Argento's boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, who is currently dragging Weinstein and anyone complicit in Weinstein's history of harassment/assault.

4. Mira Sorvino

Mira Sorvino, who starred in multiple Weinstein films, told Farrow that she also found herself alone in a hotel room with Weinstein during her early career. The year was 1995 during the Toronto International Film Festival. They were there to promote the film Mighty Aphrodite when Weinstein invited Sorvino to his room, presumably to discuss the film. "He started massaging my shoulders, which made me very uncomfortable, and then tried to get more physical, sort of chasing me around," she said.

Sorvino managed to get out of the room that night, but weeks later, Weinstein called her back in NYC to request another meeting. After calling a friend to come over and pose as her boyfriend, Sorvino “freaked out” when Weinstein arrived at her apartment earlier than expected. “I opened the door terrified, brandishing my twenty-pound Chihuahua mix in front of me, as though that would do any good," she said. When she explained to Weinstein her boyfriend was on his way over, the film exec angrily left.

5. Emma de Caunes

French actor Emma de Caunes met Weinstein in 2010 at a party during Cannes Film Festival. Months later, he reached out to her about meeting in Paris under the guise of needing a strong female lead for a film he was producing. Weinstein claimed the movie was an adaptation of a book, but he couldn't remember the title. "But I'll give it to you. I have it in my room," he reportedly told de Caunes.

Once in the room, de Caunes took a phone call, at which point Weinstein disappeared into the bathroom. Moments later, he walked out naked and with an erection. He then allegedly told de Caunes to lie on the bed and told her that "many other women had done so before her." De Caunes told Farrow she was petrified but afraid to show it. "It was like a hunter with a wild animal. The fear turns him on." She immediately left.

6. Rosanna Arquette

Rosanna Arquette agreed to meet up with Weinstein in the early '90s to pick up a script for a new film. When Arquette arrived at the room, Weinstein allegedly answered the door in a white bathrobe. He said his neck was sore and asked for a massage. When Arquette told him she could refer a good masseuse, the movie mogul forced her hand onto his neck. When she jerked away, he then tried to place it on his penis, which was reportedly visible and erect. "My heart was really racing. I was in a fight-or-flight moment," she told Farrow for The New Yorker. After telling Weinstein she would never do that, the film exec told her she was making a huge mistake by rejecting him. And, says Arquette, "He made things very difficult for me for years."

7. Angelina Jolie

During the '90s when Angelina Jolie was working on the film Playing by Heart, she endured an encounter with Weinstein during which he allegedly made unwanted advances on her in a hotel room. "I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose to never work with him again and warn others when they did," she told the Times in an email. "This behavior toward women in any field, any country is unacceptable."

8. Ambra Battilana Gutierrez

One of the most recent victims to come forward, Ambra Battilana Gutierrez — a Miss Italy contestant finalist — met Weinstein in 2015 at the reception for a show he was producing at Radio City Music Hall. Gutierrez, 22, recalled to Farrow that Weinstein repeatedly remarked how much she looked like actor Mila Kunis. He soon after requested a meeting, to which Gutierrez brought her modeling portfolio under the assumption it would be a business meeting. But shortly into the meeting, Weinstein asked if Gutierrez's breasts were real before lunging at and groping them. He also tried to force his hand up her skirt, says Gutierrez. When she continued to protest, Weinstein backed off, gave her tickets to his Broadway production of Finding Neverland and told her he'd meet her there that night.

Instead, Gutierrez went to the NYPD and reported the assault. When she failed to appear at the show, an irate Weinstein called her. The police saw an opportunity, convincing Gutierrez to wear a wire and meet up with the movie mogul. The tapes, which have now been released, reveal a tense conversation during which Weinstein admits to groping the young model.

9. Jessica Barth

Actor Jessica Barth (Next, Ted, Ted 2) told Farrow she met Weinstein at a Golden Globes party in 2011. When the movie exec asked Barth to meet him at the Peninsula, she agreed. When she arrived, though, she was asked to come to his room. At the time, Weinstein assured her it was "no big deal" and that he just wanted privacy to "talk career stuff." In the room, Barth claims she discovered Weinstein with a bottle of Champagne and sushi. He then reportedly proceeded to alternate between offering her movie roles and sexually harassing her. "'So, what would happen if, say, we're having some champagne and I take my clothes off and you give me a massage?'" Barth recounted Weinstein asking. "And I'm like, 'That's not going to happen.'"

When Barth got up to leave, Weinstein reacted harshly, telling her out of spite that she need to lose weight to "compete with Mila Kunis." Barth told Farrow she burst into tears upon leaving, but that she did share the harrowing experience with two people — whom Farrow contacted and who corroborated Barth's account.

10. Gwyneth Paltrow

When Gwyneth Paltrow was 22, she was cast to play the lead in the movie adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma. Because the film was being produced by Weinstein, the young actor didn't find it out of the ordinary when he requested a meeting at the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel. And while it began innocently enough, Paltrow told the Times it ended with Weinstein making unwanted sexual advances — including touching her and suggesting they give each other massages in the bedroom. "I was a kid, I was signed up, I was petrified," Paltrow revealed. Although she refused Weinstein's advances, she admitted, "I thought he was going to fire me."

More: Gwyneth Paltrow & Angelina Jolie Tell Their Harvey Weinstein Stories

Paltrow also divulged that she told her then-boyfriend, Brad Pitt, about the exchange. Pitt then reportedly confronted Weinstein at a movie premiere, telling him that he wouldn't do anything like that to Paltrow again... or else (else, in this case, was reportedly a "Missouri whooping"). A representative of Pitt's has since confirmed this narrative of events to the Times.

11. Romola Garai

British actor Romola Garai (Vanity Fair, Atonement, Suffragette) was only 18 when Weinstein called her in for an "audition" that ultimately proved to be much more sinister in nature. "Like every other woman in the industry, I've had an 'audition' with Harvey Weinstein, where I'd actually already had the audition but you had to be personally approved by him," she told The Guardian. "So I had to go to his hotel room in the Savoy, and he answered the door in his bathrobe. I was only 18. I felt violated by it, it has stayed very clearly in my memory."

12. Katherine Kendall

In 1993, when Swingers' Katherine Kendall was 23, Weinstein set up a meeting with the young actor through her agent. After sending her several scripts, he invited Kendall to a screening in a cinema near Lincoln Center in Manhattan. And after the screening, he said he needed to drop by his apartment to pick something up, Kendall told the Times. Once in the apartment, it wasn't long before Weinstein went into the bathroom and allegedly emerged wearing only a robe and asking for a massage. "'Everybody does it,'" Weinstein said, according to Kendall. Her refusal only seemed to excite Weinstein more, as he left the room and returned in the nude. "He literally chased me," she said. "He wouldn't let me pass him to get to the door."

13. Heather Graham

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Heather Graham recalled her own disturbing experience with Weinstein in the early 2000s. It started when Weinstein invited the star into his office to discuss a pile of potential scripts. While that seemed straightforward enough, Weinstein then pivoted the conversation problematically.

"Later in the conversation, he mentioned that he had an agreement with his wife. He could sleep with whomever he wanted when he was out of town," Graham told Variety. "I walked out of the meeting feeling uneasy. There was no explicit mention that to star in one of those films I had to sleep with him, but the subtext was there."

14. Cara Delevingne

In a lengthy Instagram post on Oct. 11, Delevingne detailed a pair of uncomfortable interactions she had had with Weinstein early in her career.

"When I first started to work as an actress, i was working on a film and I received a call from‎ Harvey Weinstein asking if I had slept with any of the women I was seen out with in the media. It was a very odd and uncomfortable call," she wrote. "I answered none of his questions and hurried off the phone but before I hung up, he said to me that If I was gay or decided to be with a woman especially in public that I'd never get the role of a straight woman or make it as an actress in Hollywood."

Cara Delevingne instagram about Harvey Weinstein

Cara Delevingne instagram about Harvey Weinstein

The second interaction Delevingne recounts is even more harrowing.

"A year or two later, I went to a meeting with him in the lobby of a hotel with a director about an upcoming film," she wrote. "The director left the meeting and Harvey asked me to stay and chat with him. As soon as we were alone he began to brag about all the actresses he had slept with and how he had made their careers and spoke about other inappropriate things of a sexual nature."

Delevingne continued, "He then invited me to his room. I quickly declined and asked his assistant if my car was outside. She said it wasn't and wouldn't be for a bit and I should go to his room. At that moment I felt very powerless and scared but didn't want to act that way hoping that I was wrong about the situation."

When Delevingne arrived in Weinstein's hotel room, she said another woman was there, and she immediately felt safer. But that didn't last.

"He asked us to kiss and she began some sort of advances upon his direction," she wrote. "I swiftly got up and asked him if he knew that I could sing. And I began to sing....i thought it would make the situation better....more professional....like an audition....i was so nervous. After singing I said again that I had to leave. He walked me to the door and stood in front of it and tried to kiss me on the lips. I stopped him and managed to get out of the room."

Delevingne said Weinstein still offered her a part in the movie he was casting, but that she always felt like he may have only given it to her because of that encounter in his hotel room.

"I was so hesitant about speaking out," she wrote. "I didn't want to hurt his family. I felt guilty as if I did something wrong. I was also terrified that this sort of thing had happened to so many women I know but no one had said anything because of fear."

15. Léa Seydoux

Léa Seydoux — known for her roles in Blue Is the Warmest Color and Spectre — is the latest woman to come forward claiming Harvey Weinstein sexually attacked her.

In an op-ed for the Guardian, Seydoux (who worked with Weinstein on Inglorious Bastards) said she met Weinstein and his female assistant in the lobby of a hotel. "All throughout the evening, he flirted and stared at me as if I was a piece of meat," she explained. "He acted as if he were considering me for a role. But I knew that was bullshit. I knew it, because I could see it in his eyes. He had a lecherous look. He was using his power to get sex."

But things escalated when his assistant left. "We were talking on the sofa when he suddenly jumped on me and tried to kiss me. I had to defend myself," she said. "He’s big and fat, so I had to be forceful to resist him. I left his room, thoroughly disgusted. I wasn’t afraid of him, though. Because I knew what kind of man he was all along."

16. Kate Beckinsale

kate beckinsale weinstein instagram

kate beckinsale weinstein instagram

The Underworld star came forward on Thursday, Oct. 12 with her own personal account of what she says happened between her and Weinstein when she was just 17 years old — which would make Beckinsale one of Weinstein's youngest alleged victims to come forward. In an extensive Instagram caption, with a picture presumably taken around the time this alleged incident occurred, Beckinsale bravely detailed her side of the story.

"I was called to meet Harvey Weinstein at the Savoy Hotel when I was 17. I assumed it would be in a conference room which was very common. When I arrived, reception told me to go to his room. He opened the door in his bathrobe. I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him. After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed. A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting. I realized he couldn't remember if he had assaulted me or not. I had what I thought were boundaries - I said no to him professionally many times over the years some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a cunt and making threats, some of which made him laughingly tell people oh 'Kate lives to say no to me.' It speaks to the status quo in this business that I was aware that standing up for myself and saying no to things, while it did allow me to feel uncompromised in myself, undoubtedly harmed my career and was never something I felt supported by anyone other than my family. I would like to applaud the women who have come forward, and to pledge that we can from this create a new paradigm where producers, managers, executives and assistants and everyone who has in the past shrugged and said 'well, that's just Harvey /Mr. X/insert name here' will realize that we in numbers can affect real change. For every moment like this, there have been thousands where a vulnerable person has confided outrageous unprofessional behavior and found they have no recourse, due to an atmosphere of fear that it seems almost everyone has been living in. I had a male friend who, based on my experience, warned a young actress who said she was going to dinner with Harvey to be careful. He received a phone call the next day saying he would never work in another Miramax film; the girl was already sleeping with Harvey and had told him that my friend had warned her off. Let's stop allowing our young women to be sexual cannon fodder, and let's remember that Harvey is an emblem of a system that is sick and that we have work to do."

All of this should mean a piping-hot pizza.

The company said it has spent more than two years examining the "delivery ecosystem," and if you are wondering what that is, it is everything. It includes the box the pizza comes in, the pizza box pouch and even the delivery process.

The new delivery pouches are made out of some pretty fancy material, and to celebrate the development of this heat-trapping technology, Pizza Hut is launching a limited-edition Pizza Parka made out of the same material as the bags. It has a 3M Thinsulate Insulation layer and a PET Aluminum layer and a high-density polyester padding. Doesn’t sound very sexy, but does sound like it’ll keep you very warm.

We know that moment all too well — you’re having a great conversation with your friends and you happen to catch a whiff of your breath. It’s hot. It’s stinky. It’s gross. You don’t want your friends to find out, so you pop in a mint and hope for the best.

Having a case of bad breath is never fun. Luckily, in most cases, we know the triggers. For instance, eating garlic and not brushing your teeth are obvious reasons — but there are a few bad-breath culprits that aren’t so well known.

Check out these surprising reasons for your stinky breath, and find out how to solve them.

You have tonsil stones

The National Center for Biotechnology Information reported that 75 percent of patients with high amounts of sulfur (which is a leading cause of bad breath) in their mouth had tonsil stones.

If you’re not familiar, tonsil stones are a mixture of bacteria and debris that settle in the back of the throat and collect in small pockets on the tonsils. The cure? Use baking soda. “Gargle with baking soda to help remove bacteria,” says NYC-based cosmetic dentist Dr. Marc Lowenberg. “The alkaline works by eliminating the acidity in your mouth.”

Breath fresheners

According to the American Chemical Society, the sugar in mints can make the bacteria in our mouth grow. Mints and breath fresheners are great for temporarily masking bad breath, but not for the long run. If you must use mints, opt for the sugar-free type. And as Lowenberg suggests, use a tongue scraper to get hard food particles that can cause bad breath.

Fresh air

According to Reader’s Digest, while a breath of fresh air is certainly good for you, too much cold air in the winter dries out your mouth and can wreak havoc. The result can be bad breath related to allergies, nasal drainage or chronic dry mouth.

You have tonsillitis

If you have a sore-throat disease, you might have an ongoing case of bad breath. According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology, tonsillectomy, a surgery that removes the two glands in the back of your throat, can help treat the sickness and bad breath.

You’re overweight

According to researchers from Tel Aviv University, the more overweight a person is, the more likely they are to have bad breath. The team discovered that obesity may be a risk factor for halitosis and may be because of sleep apnea, heavy breathing or eating lots of unhealthy foods.

So, what should you do if you have bad breath or know someone who suffers from halitosis? “You should tell people in your family if they have bad breath,” says professor Mel Rosenberg of the department of human microbiology and The Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine, Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. “It is curable in almost all instances, and it can be a sign of disease. As for work colleagues, they might be happy for the advice, but they might not.”

Family-Friendly Halloween Activities If You're Not Into Trick-or-Treating

I love everything about Halloween, from decorating the front porch to sipping apple cider, stocking up on my favorite candy and catching the classic Halloween movies that play on TV all month long. And it's important to me that my family builds some fun Halloween traditions together, even if they don't involve trick-or-treating. There's still plenty to do if you want to skip that trip around the neighborhood, and yes, candy can be involved at every turn if you so desire. These five activities are fun for the whole family — and don't be surprised if you find yourself enjoying the night as much as your kids!

1. Hold a pumpkin-carving contest

Getting up to your elbows in orange goo is the perfect bonding activity for the whole family. Clean and hollow your pumpkins together, reserving the seeds so you can roast them for a snack. Then everyone can get to work carving their perfect pumpkin (with adults helping the little ones, of course). Have the kids judge the adults' handiwork, and vice versa. The winners get to have their pumpkins displayed in the most prominent spot outside... and everyone gets some candy to celebrate.

2. Host a costume fashion show

If your family is anything like mine, you have the remains of dozens of Halloween costumes in the back of your closet, wishing and hoping for their second chance at the spotlight. And this is it. Challenge your family to hold a fashion show using mixed and matched pieces from your old costumes. Make a playlist for walking down the runway, swap the red carpet for some creepy black felt, and pull out your old disco ball and strobe light. The results are sure to be spooky, silly and downright fashionable.

3. Have a spooky-movie marathon

My family always saved our epic movie marathons for New Year's Eve, but Halloween offers a distinct advantage: candy. Stock up on all your favorite sweets, and have everyone pick the family-friendly Halloween flick of their choosing. From The Witches to Monsters, Inc., these movies are perfect for watching on chilly autumn nights when the whole crew can get nice and cozy inside.

4. Make a haunted gingerbread house

Why save your gingerbread house talents for winter? It's even more fun to create an edible mansion when it's supposed to look creepy. Get the family together to make cobwebs of icing, gummy candy Frankensteins, marshmallow ghosts and strawberry sauce blood decorations to adorn your haunted cookie house. The scariest part of your night will be deciding who gets to take the coveted first bite (I call roof!).

5. Play costume tag

Crisp fall evenings are perfect for outdoor activities, especially if you have a big yard or live near a park. And what better game to get the blood pumping than tag? But tag is even more fun when the person who's it is dressed as a zombie, witch or cartoon character. Wearing your costumes to play injects some zany, silly fun into a game that's already full of laughs. To level the playing field, have the grownups and older kids wear masks that make it a little harder to see — the kids can run after them as they lurch like monsters trying to get away.

With a few simple cuts in the hot dogs and by dropping them into boiling water for a few minutes, they turn into some creepy-looking apendages.

I used veggie dogs in my recipe, but you can use any type of hot dog you like. If you are making these for a party, just do all the prepping before hand, and boil them right before you want to serve them to your guests.

Bloody hot dog fingers on buns recipe

Yields 12

Prep time: 30 minutes | Cook time: 5 minutes | Total time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 12 hot dogs (any type — chicken, beef, pork or veggie)
  • 1 sweet onion
  • Ketchup
  • 12 hot dog buns

Directions:

  1. With a small paring knife, carefully cut off a small layer of the hot dog at the tip (this will be the area where the fingernail would be), and cut off the other end completely.
  2. Right below the area where the fingernail will be, make 3 small cuts on an angle, then again in the opposite direction and again where the knuckle would be. Once the hot dogs boil, this will give them a more realistic look.
  3. Do this step with each hot dog until all your fingers are made.
  4. Cut the onion in half, and remove the 2 layers of onion skin.
  5. Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, drop the onion pieces and the hot dogs into the pot. Boil for about 5 minutes, and then drain.
  6. Using a knife, cut the onion into strips and then into small pieces that look like fingernails. (Try to keep them the same size as the hot dog so they look real and the onion fits properly.)
  7. Add a few drops of ketchup on the hot dogs, then place the onion “nail” on top, creating the finger.
  8. Once all your fingers are done, put them into hot dog buns, and place them on a serving platter.
  9. Garnish with extra ketchup, and serve.
