James Corden Kind of Apologized For Kissing Sean Spicer After the Emmys

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer shook up the internet Sunday night when he made a surprise appearance at the 2017 Emmy Awards, but it was the tone deaf reactions of the stars we all know and (usually) love to Spicer rolling out on the stage on a podium a la Melissa McCarthy's SNL impression that really got people upset. Celebrities lined up after the awards talk to and get pictures with Spicer, who, as we know, basically gaslighted the entire country during his short tenure as press secretary. But there's one star who's burning a little dimmer today after a picture of him kissing Spicer on the cheek went viral: James Corden, the host of The Late Late Show.

And let me tell you, Twitter's reactions to Corden's humanization of Spicer have been great so far.

While Corden kind of apologized for contributing to the blatant example of the privilege some of our favorite celebrities often forget they have on last night's episode of The Late Late Show, it doesn't really hold much weight. Corden joked his way through his pseudo-apology, ending it by saying, "Basically, what I'm saying is, I need to learn how to shake hands."

Although jokingly kissing Sean Spicer on the cheek may seem innocuous on the surface, it's so important to recognize this action for what it really is: the normalization of humanizing someone who spent months lying to the country, stripping away the rights of the press, and spinning false narratives. Celebrities like Corden need to acknowledge the power that their privilege gives them. Kissing the cheek of a man who said that Hitler didn't use chemical weapons and called concentration camps "Holocaust centers" is definitely not the right way to use that privilege.

Mario Batali Has Ditched Crocs, & Nothing Will Ever Be the Same

There are certain things in life we can always count on — pizza being delicious, the fact that it will always rain directly after I get a blowout and Mario Batali will always don his trademark orange Crocs.

Fans of Batali are used to his unique fashion sense, always footnoted by a pair of orange Crocs, whether he is cooking on The Chew or at his restaurants or just roaming the streets of New York City.

Except that isn’t even true anymore, and we don’t know what to believe. In a recent interview with GQ, the celebrity chef dropped a bombshell. "I'm away from Crocs now. I’m onto the Yeezys, just this week. And I will wear them everywhere," Batali told GQ. "Crocs are very comfortable — there's nothing wrong with Crocs — it's just that I'm moving on."

Ryan Phillippe's Team Responds to Abuse & Drug Use Allegations

According to a lawsuit recently obtained by TMZ, Ryan Phillippe's ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt is suing him for over $1 million in damages, alleging he beat her while "extremely drunk" on July 4. Sources close to Phillippe, however, say the event happened differently.

More: 16 Celebrities You Didn't Know Were Accused of Sexual Misconduct or Abuse

Let's start with Hewitt's allegations first. In the lawsuit, Hewitt says that she went to Phillippe's house to pick up some belongings and tried to talk to him when he "attacked her, grabbed her upper arm so hard it left heavy bruises and violently threw her down the stairs as hard as he could." He then allegedly picked her up and threw her down the stairs a second time, all while screaming obscenities at her.

Hewitt went to the hospital following the event, where police took a report and issued a protective order. Hewitt had chest wall pain, abrasions and severe bruising and also accused Phillippe of using drugs including steroids, psychedelic mushrooms, ecstasy and cocaine.

More: 17 Celebs Who Spoke Up About Their Sexual Assault to Help Others

Sources close to Phillippe, however, claim the accusations are false and Hewitt is simply using her relationship with Phillippe to get revenge, attention and fame.

According to them, this is how the events on July 4 went down: Hewitt arrived at Phillippe's home intoxicated and uninvited and fell and hurt herself after Phillippe removed her from his home. The LA city attorney refused to prosecute after investigating, and "Ryan's side finds it amusing Elsie has sent glamour shots of herself to the media and is out for money and fame."

Either way, this is no laughing matter nor is it amusing. Abuse allegations of any kind should never be taken lightly, and we're hoping this all gets sorted out soon.

7 Women Get Real About the Hilarious Parts of Everyday Life With ADHD

0
0

The reality of living with ADHD as an adult isn't always fun. In fact, it can be downright difficult on a daily basis. But, hey, sometimes you've got to laugh to keep from crying. And for women with ADHD, that means taking life with a grain of salt and realizing that sometimes, having ADHD produces some hilarious side effects.

Even just putting this feature together was a testament to the incredible sense of humor so many women with ADHD possess. When asked to contribute a quote, they'd quickly agree — only to fall off the radar for a few days. When they finally did respond, they'd say, "Oops, got distracted. ADHD!"

More: For One Woman, ADHD Isn't a Problem — It's the Reason She Excels

So if you have ADHD and need a little help finding the lighter, brighter side of things, take a look at what other real women have to say about the unintentionally comical sides of dealing with the diagnosis.

Why did I drive this way?

"Living with ADHD means being so spaced out that you drive right past your work or, even worse, your house. Or you get on the interstate to go to work, and then realize that you have no idea why you're on the interstate because you can't get to work that way. Sometimes, all you can do is laugh at yourself." — Kelli F.

Ooh, this is my jam!

"I'm basically a squirrel. When I'm telling a story, I go 10 different directions because my mind is kind of like a bunch of different windows open on a computer. I'm flipping from one screen to the next, but then I hate notifications on my phone, so my constant need to look at them and make them go away, that sidetracks me a lot. And, gosh, if music's on, 'everything' is my jam, as my husband says. That gets me off task a lot too — don't play Big Tymers ever, ha-ha!" — Karly C.

More: ADHD Can Be a Hurdle in Romantic Relationships, but Treatment Is Everything

You found your phone where?

"Oh, man. I have not been able to find my phone several times in my life, but the funniest has to be all of the times I found it in the fridge. Notice I said times." — Shaquana G.

Welp, there go the doughnuts

"The funniest moment in my life courtesy of ADHD probably has to have been the time my friend/co-worker/carpool pal, Ami, and I went through the Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru on the way to work. We thought we were doing something really nice by getting everyone in the office breakfast, right? Only, when we were getting back in the car, Ami put our two coffees on top of the car to move her purse out of her seat. When we realized the coffee was missing, I pulled over to check the roof. Well, I had the donuts in my lap, so when I got up I sat them on the roof. Seriously, I didn't even think twice about it... it just sort of happened. You can see where this is going! We lost the coffee and donuts that day, had to go back to Dunkin' Donuts and ended up being late to work!" — Marci D.

What did I do with my apple?

"I literally just sat down at my computer after getting up to go to the garage to get something, got distracted by the vacuum I walked past, vacuumed the house really quickly, took out a snack to eat (which is currently sitting out on the counter because I forgot it until just now) and completely forgot to get what I needed from the garage before coming back to my computer. This is pretty much how my entire life goes!" — Katie P.

Oops! Sorry, kiddo

"There was literally a time when I almost forgot to drop my daughter off at day care because I was spaced out and thinking about something else. Thank God, she was 4 and said, 'Mommy, you missed the turn for my school!' And then there is that feeling when you pull into the garage, look around and wonder how the heck you got there." — Shelley M.

What are you staring at?

"I work in a large office with open-style cubicles. Like, everywhere. It's a nightmare for someone like me with ADHD, because I tend to get caught up in every little thing going on around me. The plus side is I see some pretty interesting stuff. The downside is that pretty much every day I space out right in the middle of staring at someone, don't realize they are staring at me staring at them and wind up coming off like a total creeper, ha-ha!" — Susan L.

Kate Middleton Makes Rare Video Appearance to Open Up About Mental Health

While the former Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge is used to being in the public eye, she usually doesn’t step into the spotlight herself. A rare exception to that came this week when she provided the introduction to a video on mental health.

The animated film, created by the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, which is based in the U.K., features illustrations and voices from schoolchildren highlighting the importance of taking care of your mental health.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who is a patron of the organization, opened the video by telling viewers that mental health “is how we feel and think” and “things that can’t really be seen but that affect us every day, and talking about them can feel difficult.”

More: Kate Middleton Delivers Powerful Speech on Children's Mental Health

The short film, which is geared toward school-age children, stresses the importance of talking about mental health and listening to those who may be struggling.

"It helps us all to talk about our mental health: what to say and who to talk to when we have feelings that are too big to manage on our own," Kate said in the video, "and how to listen and help if one of our friends is finding things difficult. Sometimes it's just a simple conversation that can make things better."

The video goes on to talk about the difference between “small feelings” (like temporarily feeling happy, sad or mad about something) and “big feelings” that stick around for long periods of time and affect a person’s everyday life.

More: Kate Middleton Admits Parenting Is Lonely, Wins Our Hearts Forever

And while there are increasing numbers of resources letting us know that it’s OK to open up about our feelings and mental health struggles, this animated film goes one step further, talking about the importance of listening to others who may need to talk about their own mental health, even providing suggestions on how to be a good listener (like leaning toward the person or sitting next to them).

Introducing this video isn’t Kate’s first foray into the mental health discussion: The duchess previously worked with her husband, Prince William, and brother-in-law, Prince Harry, as part of the Heads Together campaign for mental health. She has also spoken about her own struggles with loneliness after becoming a mother.

Laura Prepon & Eva Mendes Are Working-Mom Goals

0
0

Just for the record, pretty much all moms are "working" moms. But balancing the full-time job of parenting with a whole other full-time job adds even more stress — and subtracts more sleep (even if that second job is at least relatively well paying). And this week, some of our favorite celeb mothers are weighing in on the good old mom-to-job grind.

Orange Is the New Black's Laura Prepon, for one, returned to set this week after giving birth to her baby girl — with fiancé Ben Foster — in August. Prepon has been pretty quiet on the topic of new motherhood, but we loved her Sept. 18 Instagram post of her on set as barefaced, bespectacled Alex Vause. Prepon captioned the selfie, "Back at work! @oitnb season 6! #workingmom #herewego #alexvause."

Prepon's quick postpartum return to the OITNB set was no surprise; she told Extra TV before the birth of her little girl, "I can’t really take time off because we go back to work… she’ll be coming to work with me. It’ll be great. It’s just a matter of scheduling."

It will be great, because 1) the set includes a huge tableful of snacks and 2) there's a whole lot of people to keep that baby girl rocked and cuddled and entertained — things that most new parents welcome.

Meanwhile, which celeb is struggling with working-mom guilt? That would be Eva Mendes, actor, clothing designer and stealer of Goslings (kidding — kind of). Mendes told E! News she was completely unprepared for the mixed emotions she'd have about dividing her hours between her job and her girls with Ryan Gosling. "Oh my God, nobody warns you about the guilt that you feel when you do work!" she exclaimed.

More: How Eva Mendes Chose Her Second Daughter's Name

Her Eva Mendes X New York and Co. clothing collection is a combination of accessories, daywear and evening fashions — with "an emphasis on dresses," according to Vogue U.K. Mendes also told Vogue back in 2013 that she is passionate about designing: "It's taking up all my time, but in the best way possible. Everything I see is a possible design. My mind is consumed by it."

Since the arrival of daughters Esmeralda, 3, and Amada, 1, Mendes admits she has to fight to find time for all of her vocations. "I don't know how I find balance," she told E!, "because I think it is like a day to day kind of struggle, you know?"

More: 7 Ryan Gosling Quotes About Parenting That We Love

Mendes admitted to Shape in March, "I’m always running around with the kids. I never sit down — I’m on the move all day." She added, "What people don't know about me is that I love being home. Instead of hitting the red carpet, I'd rather be with our girls."

Despite all the time she spends with their daughters and despite a regimen of self-care to stay strong, Mendes still struggles to manage the feeling of guilt that creeps in. "I'm all for obviously taking care of myself — that's how I can take care of them of course — but that guilt that is just kind of always there. It's like, 'Ugh, this is gonna be there forever now.'"

We working moms can relate. That's for sure. (Even those of us who don't book covers of magazines.)

Who's Taking Over for Jedediah Bila on The View?

In a surprising twist, The View’s Jedediah Bila announced yesterday morning that she would be leaving the daytime talk show after only a year of co-hosting effective immediately.

More: 11 Most Controversial Moments on The View

Bila, who joined the show last August, went on to thank her fellow co-hosts after her big announcement. “What you don’t know about us is that we’re really friends,” she said, referencing the frequent disagreements she and the other hosts were known to get into during her time on the show. As a staunch libertarian, Bila’s views often clashed with the other three hosts, but she went on to say in her farewell that their willingness to let her express herself meant “more to [her] than anything.”

As for why Bila’s leaving The View, some fans think it may have something to do with the show’s recent interview with Hillary Clinton, who recently released a much-anticipated memoir about the 2016 election. During the interview, Bila didn’t hold back with her questions or her criticisms of Clinton, asking the former secretary of state point blank if she would acknowledge that some of President Trump’s supporters voted for him based on issues that mattered to them and admitted she thought that Clinton’s memoir was a bit “tone deaf.” However, a rep for the show told E! News that Bila’s departure has “nothing to do with the Hillary Clinton interview.”

Bila’s departure from The View already has fans wondering who will take her place, and whether her replacement will also have differing views to those of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines. E! News reported that a source close to The View said its executives have been looking for a more conservative voice to contrast the beliefs of the other co-hosts since the departure of conservative Fuller House actor Candace Cameron Bure in 2016.

E!’s source claims that the show’s executives believe it’s important to have a diversity of ideas on the panel of hosts. Right now, it’s unclear who could be taking Bila’s place at the table, but some people are speculating that Meghan McCain, Arizona senator John McCain’s daughter, may be on the shortlist of possible candidates.

Bila, who’s currently working on a book with HarperCollins, ended her farewell by thanking the show’s viewers. “We are nothing without you,” she said. “It’s about serious issues, and it’s about the fact that you care enough to hear what we have to say.”

Jada Pinkett Smith Is Distancing Herself From Leah Remini & Scientology

0
0

Rather than let the matter rest, Leah Remini is choosing to remain staunch in her claims that Jada Pinkett Smith is a member of the Church of Scientology despite Pinkett Smith's reticence to claim involvement or even align herself with the church in any manner. Remini's exit from Scientology and creation of the award-winning documentary on the truth about the religion have made her one of the most outspoken figures on Scientology. Given this, Remini's claims about Pinkett Smith are all the more intriguing and unusual, especially because Pinkett Smith remains private about her personal life to an extent and has never been publicly involved with Scientology. It's tough to know who is right here, especially considering Remini has proven a credible source of information about other aspects of Scientology.

More: Leah Remini Dedicates Her Emmy Nomination to Victims of Scientology

In Remini's new book, Troublemaker, she details an incident in which she was allegedly at a gathering (it's unclear if it was just Scientology members or mixed company) where prominent Scientologist Tom Cruise suggested playing hide and seek. Finding it odd Cruise would want a group of adults to play a game meant for children, Remini tried to decline. During this incident, Remini made mention of Pinkett Smith's attendance, seemingly implying she was a member of Scientology.

Remini has even gone on the record explicitly claiming Pinkett Smith is part of the Church of Scientology to The Daily Beast. "I know Jada’s in. I know Jada’s in. She’s been in Scientology a long time. I never saw Will [Smith] there, but I saw Jada at the Celebrity Centre. They opened up a Scientology school, and have since closed it. But Jada, I had seen her at the Scientology Celebrity Centre all the time."

Leah Remini Jada Pinkett Smith Video

Leah Remini Jada Pinkett Smith Video

When asked about whether this really happened by Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen, Pinkett Smith flat-out denied any Scientology connections, instead saying this happened with her children and Cruise's children years ago. "This is when our kids were really small," she told Cohen. "And Tom loved games — that was the whole point. Tom was just fun like that. So I know [Remini] kinda made it seem kinda weird, but it really wasn't. It was just a bunch of us goofing off with our kids."

More: Leah Remini's Got a Lot Planned for the Second Season of Her Scientology Series

Pinkett Smith took things one step further in settling this matter by tweeting out that while she may have studied Scientology to some extent, it was no more than her interest and study in other religions. As such, there is no clear evidence that she is a total Scientologist; rather, she is simply cultivating an interest in a wide range of religions.

JPS Scientology Response 1

JPS Scientology Response 1

For Pinkett Smith, the only ideology she adheres to devoutly is human kindness, which she also made clear in her clarification tweets.

JPS Scientology Response 2

JPS Scientology Response 2

What should we all take from this? Probably that it's just unfortunate the issue is being pursued so much. Even in that interview with Cohen, it's evident Pinkett Smith wants to put the topic to bed — and honestly, if someone wants to keep their religious beliefs private, shouldn't they be able to? She shouldn't be forced to disclose private information simply because someone is continuing to push a discussion that she clearly doesn't want to pursue.

More: We Talked to Jada Pinkett Smith About Being a Real Nasty Woman

While the public may not have an answer to the most burning question in this story — whether Pinkett Smith is actually a Scientologist — what's clear is this story is a little difficult to completely confirm. Remini might want to let this topic drop, because it doesn't look like anyone will back her up anytime soon.

Why Did Nicole Kidman Only Acknowledge 2 of Her 4 Kids in Emmy Speech?

0
0

Are you still wondering why Nicole Kidman didn't mention the two children she adopted with ex-husband Tom Cruise at the Emmys on Sunday night? Because we are.

The actor won Best Actress in a Limited Series for her role in HBO's mini-epic Big Little Lies. During her acceptance speech, Kidman offered heartfelt words to her two daughters with Keith Urban. “I am also a mother and a wife. I have two little girls, Sunny and Faith,” Kidman said. “This [Emmy] is yours. I want my little girls to have this on their shelf and to look at it and go, ‘Every time my mama didn’t put me to bed, it’s because of this. I got something!’”

However, Kidman's older children with Cruise — Isabella, 24, and Connor, 22 — received no mention from their mom. What gives?

Of course Twitter immediately pounced on the omission — harshly. Because unfortunately, that's what Twitter does best. Many speculated whether or not the non-mention was intentional or accidental. Our guess? Possibly on purpose — probably also without any malice. After all, rumors have circulated for years that Scientology crushed Kidman's relationship with Isabella and Connor. Kidman is not a Scientologist; Cruise, Connor and Isabella maintain their ties to the religion, and it's possible the kids cut Kidman off as a result.

More: Nicole Kidman Believes That Motherhood Is Far More Than Biology

Vogue reported on an interesting related anecdote this week: Leah Remini, a former Scientologist, revealed in her memoir, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, that she spoke to Isabella and Connor after Cruise's wedding to Katie Holmes in 2006. According to Remini, Isabella said, "Our mom is a fucking SP." In Scientology, an "SP" refers to a "suppressive person" — someone not on board with the church who must be shunned.

Isabella Cruise has denied any estrangement, despite marrying secretly in London in 2015 in a Scientology wedding with neither of her parents present. She spoke to MailOnline, saying, "Of course [we talk], they're my parents. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit."

Who knows what the truth is? But is may well suggest a sad scenario — one in which Kidman would love to be close with her older children but in which circumstances have taken a toll on their relationship. It's also possible that Kidman's speech about missing out on putting Sunny and Faith to bed while she's off working simply reflects this time in her life — having two young children who presently need her in a way her older children don't.

Some were kinder to Kidman on Twitter, we were happy to see:

Whatever the real story, Kidman's Emmys speech was thoughtful and powerful; it highlighted the issue of domestic abuse and how her role has made a difference by bringing the epidemic to light. “I want [my daughters] to know that sometimes when you’re acting, you get a chance to bring a bigger message,” said Kidman. We just hope the denizens of the internet settle down and hear that bigger message.

James Corden Kind of Apologized for Kissing Sean Spicer After the Emmys

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer shook up the internet Sunday night when he made a surprise appearance at the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards. However, having to watch Spicer roll out on the stage on a podium (just like Melissa McCarthy once did on SNL when she was impersonating him) left a bad taste in the mouths of people watching at home. But weirdly, didn't seem to bother the celebs at the Emmys whatsoever. Celebrities lined up after the awards to talk to and get pictures with Spicer, giving what some people thought was undue positive attention to a man whom they believe did more harm than good during his short tenure as press secretary.

But there's one star who's apologizing for associating with Spicer at the Emmys... sort of. Despite looking very chill and OK with Spicer at an Emmys after-party, Corden apologized for hanging out with Spicer and for the way that photo looked to the public on The Late Late Show.

However, the apology was a bit of a half-hearted non-apology that didn't really carry much weight. He began with a bit of a joke: "According to some reports at the after-party, Spicer was the most popular guy in the room. And I just wanna say, I think people are forgetting this man lied to the American people and should not be embraced. These Hollywood phonies kissing up to Spicer are disgusting, I mean, who did this, who are we talking about here?” at which point a photo of himself attempting to kiss Spicer on the cheek appeared on the screen.

Corden continued on, taking a bit more of a serious tone. "Understandably, some people have been disappointed by this photo. In truth, I’m disappointed as well. I’ve been reading a lot of harsh comments on Twitter and I hear you, I really do, so much so that I’m starting to regret that Carpool Karaoke we taped with Steve Bannon… feels like a mistake today.” Corden ended this pseudo-apology by saying, "Basically, what I'm saying is, I need to learn how to shake hands."

Um, What Is a Vagina Lift & Does Any Woman Actually Need One?

0
0

When you think about the effects of aging, you probably envision crow’s feet, a slowed metabolism and maybe the dreaded hot flashes that many a menopausal woman has bemoaned. Lower on that list — for me at least — is the possibility that along with my chin and boobs, my vagina could actually start to sag one day. Ah, Mother Nature — she can be a blessing and a bitch.

“As women age, our vaginal tissues become thinner and more atrophic,” says gynecological surgeon Dr. Prudence Hall, founder of the Santa Monica-based regenerative medicine clinic The Hall Center. “Youthful vaginal tissue is elastic and pliable to accommodate childbirth, allowing for easy and painless intercourse, whereas with aging — or postpartum — vaginal tissue, the vagina can become dry and stretched out, creating less sexual sensitivity and real discomfort for women.”

Sounds deeply unappealing, right? If you’re in your 20s, you might be thinking, “But I have decades until this will happen to me.” And you might be right — though if you’re on birth control, your estrogen levels drop just like they do during menopause, which can cause similar symptoms of dryness, pain during sex and low levels of good bacteria (read: a higher chance of getting infections down there). If that’s your situation, you can consider going off the pill, which is simple enough.

More: This Shot Can Make You Orgasm More — But Is It Safe?

If, however, you’re like some of the women dealing with these symptoms who have no easy solution, it makes sense that you’d consider something a little more extreme. Enter vaginal rejuvenation treatments like FemiLift, a procedure that uses laser technology to heat vaginal tissue and stimulate the formation of new collagen to help treat discomfort and pain, whether it’s from aging, childbirth or anything else.

I spoke to Brooklyn-based gynecologist Dr. Amir Marashi, who has performed the procedure (which was FDA-approved in 2008 and has been gaining popularity in last few years), to find out more about how it works. “FemiLift involves a probe with tiny lasers that create 81 tiny, superficial holes in the vagina, kind of like microneedling,” he says. “Anytime you pierce your body, it immediately causes more blood to surge to that area and will spur collagen production.” There’s no anesthesia or downtime needed to recover, making it fairly convenient for busy women.

More: 5 Millennial Women on Why They Got Plastic Surgery

I wanted to find out what types of patients have received FemiLift, and it turns out they’re not all older women. One woman, Ashley, is a 33-year-old mom of one who got the treatment after giving birth. After three sessions, she reported feeling tighter, having less trouble with incontinence and experiencing more pleasure during sex again.

That’s all well and good, but I still felt a little dubious. Are 81 laser holes really the best way to go about dealing with vaginal troubles? Isn’t there a more natural way? In some cases, yes, says Hall, who has successfully treated dryness and atrophying tissue with safe, natural hormones. But in other cases, more extreme measures are warranted, she says — particularly with the case of vaginal laxity (meaning diminished sensitivity and looseness of vaginal walls).

“Vaginal laxity has traditionally only been approached with surgery,” says Hall. “Surgical reconstruction brings the muscles of the pelvic floor together to create a tighter vagina, but it doesn’t address the quality of the vaginal tissue. At first, I was skeptical about the use of lasers to spur collagen production, but with many patients undergoing treatments, I’ve been delighted to hear their positive comments: more vaginal moisture, tightness and more pleasurable sex. This is certainly a safer and less invasive place to begin rather than immediately opting for surgical vaginal reconstruction.”

Well, there you have it, ladies — even if this isn’t something you’re dealing with now, it’s good to know about, and feel free to pass this along to your mom, your friend who recently had a baby or any other woman you know who might benefit from learning more about ways to address vaginal discomfort. Information is power (and, in this case, pleasure!).

Bill O'Reilly Sat Down With Matt Lauer to Address Sexual Harassment Claims

Just when you thought we were done with Bill O'Reilly, he's back in the news. It's been months since he was unceremoniously let go from his job at Fox News amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment spanning his entire career that were made against him. Now he's back, and he still insists that the claims from at least five different women (that Fox settled with for millions of dollars) were part of a big ol' conspiracy to get him out of the political arena.

More: Bill O'Reilly Is 'Really Sad' He's Not on TV Anymore

"It goes to credibility, doesn’t it?" he told Matt Lauer in a new interview, not seeming to understand how credibility works in a his-word-against-multiple-other-people's kind of situation. "This was a hit job. A political and financial hit job."

This kind of statement is not exactly surprising, especially coming from O'Reilly. He at least seems to have come to some amount of peace with it, telling himself that Fox News made the decision to fire him based on only money. That's probably at least partly true since more than 50 advertisers refused to work with his show after the allegations came to light.

More: The Questions We Should Still Be Asking About Bill O'Reilly & Fox

"They had a contractual clause that they could pay me a certain amount of money and not put me on air. And they exercised that clause," O'Reilly said. "There are billions of dollars at stake, and they made a business decision that they could possibly prosper more without me. It was as simple as that."

O'Reilly, however, still absolutely maintains that he did "absolutely nothing wrong," and that, "not in 42 years… did I have any interaction with HR or any complaints filed against [me]."

You know, except the multiple unconnected reports of sexual harassment that got him fired. But he's clearly not counting those.

Serena Williams' Baby Has Her Own Instagram — Run by Her Parents

Well, that didn't take long.

Alexis Olympia Ohanian, the newborn daughter of tennis icon Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, has her own Instagram account under the name Olympia Ohanian — perhaps she'll be going by her middle name. Despite being, like, 3-1/2 seconds old, Alexis Olympia already has almost 50,000 followers. Check out those biceps too.

Of course, Alexis Olympia's account will be carefully curated by her parents — each with a popular Instagram account of their own, which means if you are a fan of the Williams-Ohanian family, well, you're going to have to give up a hobby or two just to keep up with their feeds.

Alexis No. 1 (hmm, this could be a little confusing) posted an adorable pic to his own Instagram account this week. The photo, a black and white shot of Alexis No. 2, was captioned, “Dad life is the greatest. Entrepreneurship is all-consuming, it’s sleepless, we call our startups our ‘babies,’ we are ridiculously proud of them, and we pour all of ourselves into them — but she is already all that and more, she is my legacy.”

It's kind of amusing that the Reddit co-chief sounds amazed that he could be even more proud of his first child than his startup, but hey, new parents are a weird breed. These two have been particularly gushy about the whole journey, and it's consistently cute to watch. Serena Williams' last Instagram post was six days ago, a beautiful picture of her cuddling No. 2 (how long can we keep shortening her name?).

Parenthood clearly agrees with Williams — although it seems like it's still a pretty surreal experience for the Grand Slam champion and for her fiancé. Williams tweeted on Monday, “It’s very weird for me to believe I have a child… a KID. I’m a mom. A real MOM.”

You are definitely a mom, Serena Williams. The proof is in the Instagram.

How Using Euphemisms for Vaginas Can Impact Our Lives Negatively

0
0

From the time I was a very small person, my mother referred to my genitalia as “the front of you.” As was recently pointed out to me, this euphemism for my vagina and everything it encompassed was so vague, it could also have be referring to my face or my chest or torso or anything and everything that was visible from the front. But that’s the point of a euphemism, right? It’s indirect. Its function is to dodge what’s considered too blunt, no matter how perilous the results.

When I surveyed other people with vaginas about how their parents and peers talked about reproductive organs, I found three sets of answers. First, there were those folks who grew up with euphemisms — muff, you-know-what, pum-pum, pee-pee, etc. (including the all-encompassing ‘private parts’). Then came those whose parents used clinically accurate terms. And then there were those for whom it was called nothing.

More: 12 Dudes share their honest reaction to seeing a vagina for the first time

“I don’t think we used any word at all,” says C. “We didn’t talk about it. This, in a family of three daughters.”

Not surprisingly, regardless of what terms were used to refer to one’s genitals, it’s almost impossible to emerge from childhood and adolescence without negative associations attached to vaginas and vulvas. J, whose mother used the word “vagina” on a regular basis, reported that she always whispered it, which just heightened the stigma around the word and the thing itself.

“I was taught to call it ‘vagina’ from a young age," says Alex. “But I certainly absorbed discomfort about my vagina from other settings. I don’t think I became fully 100 percent comfortable talking about it the same way I do about my nose, say, until I gave birth and was in the care of awesome, feminist, female midwives.”

I noticed certain inconsistencies when talking about people born with penises. “My brother was born around the time my sister and I were realizing that we had genitals,” M says. “His experience of his penis was like light-hearted and cute and innocent, but I don’t remember that being a thing for me or my sister.”

“When my then-stepbrother got stuck in his pants zipper,” K tells me, “there was laughing about ‘his little pecker.’ But there wasn’t even a word for my vagina. It was just ‘down there.'”

If we grow up being made to believe that our body parts must be steeped in mysteriousness and shame, what happens when we’re in charge of our own sex lives? If we have children, do we perpetuate the cycle that started with the euphemisms (which was probably the result of what our parents’ parents called sexual organs), or do we charge ahead, using the correct terms?

E, who reported not remembering what her parents called her own body parts, is breaking the pattern with her 3-year-old daughter. “People seem shocked when I speak to my 3-year-old and actually use the word ‘vagina’. What else am I supposed to call it? I don’t want her to be afraid of her parts (or calling them their names).”

“I have seen a lot of women with shame around their vagina,” says sex therapist Cath Hakanson.”In all of them, you can track it back to negative childhood messages, where their parents either didn’t talk about that part of the body or they used made-up names, which left the impression that if the name is unspeakable, then there is something wrong with the part.”

You don’t have to forgo the use of slang altogether, says Jill Whitney, a marriage and family therapist who blogs about communication around sex and relationships at Keep the Talk Going.

“Even adults often refer to sexual body parts with terms like ‘privates’ or ‘girl parts,’ and it can be helpful for your daughter to know those words are synonyms," Whitney says. Using clinically accurate names for genitals, though, means going all the way — teach your children that there’s a difference between the vagina and the vulva, instead of letting vagina represent everything that’s in a complex system.

More: Slang words for vagina ranked from bad to worst

Whether or not you’re going to break the cycle of code names with children, it’s vital that you address your own relationship with your body and how it’s been impacted by the messages you’ve received about it. Sexual wellness coach Lauren Brim advised finding a community of sex-positive people who will talk openly about sexuality and body and openly exploring your own. “Get in touch with your body,” Brim urges. “Talk about it. You should have been free as a little girl to talk about how you were feeling, so this is about re-parenting yourself.”

Daphne Oz: Everything I Wish I'd Known as a First-Time Mom

0

With baby No. 3 on the way, I've been reflecting on my journey as a mother to Philomena and John Jr. — the things I want to continue and the things I'd like to do better. Inspired by my experiences (and by Baby Safety Month in September), I'm sharing five things I wish I — and everyone else! — had known as a first-time parent.

1. Parenting takes a village

As first-time parents to our daughter Philomena, we really had no idea what to expect. I definitely thought I would be able to handle everything on my own, but the truth is new motherhood can be overwhelming. I was so lucky to be able to rely on my parents and in-laws (and our extended family and pretty much anyone who would field questions from me) for advice and support. Slowly but surely, I established my core group of parent friends with whom I could share all the terrifying, wonderful, totally vulnerable moments. It’s so liberating to realize we are really meant to raise our children together, in a community — to share in that responsibility and to celebrate each other.

More: 7 Lies People Tell You About Newborns

2. Find inspiration in the small things

Major milestones like birthdays and vacations are great to look forward to, but so are all the small moments you can have with kids every single day. Don’t stress to make every day significant; just soak up the ways your kids share their joy and wonder with you.

And please: Learn from my mistakes and take five minutes at the end of each night just to write down all the funny things they do and say. You think you’ll remember, but then it’s on to the next thing — and these fleeting moments slip away. I wish I’d done it from the beginning, but it’s something I’ve started doing recently, and I absolutely love being able to reflect on the brilliant bits of gold they come out with as they become these poignant, hilarious, real little humans.

3. Know when to follow your instincts — & when to follow the instructions

As parents, we can sense when our children need something (a hug? a snack? a nap?), and we should always embrace our instincts. That same logic doesn’t apply to how we use children’s products, though. For example, children should be riding rear-facing in the car for as long as possible — not until we think they "look big enough" to face forward. That decision should be based on research statistics rather than instinct. This is why I joined the TurnAfter2 public awareness campaign to promote a critical safety rule: Turn your kid's seat forward-facing after they turn 2 years old.

4. Be kind to other parents

The internet can be inspiring and a great way to connect with other parents and learn from each other. But it can also be a scary place where people feel free to criticize, judge and undermine each other. I’ve been on the receiving end of mom-shaming, and it can be totally devastating — even if you realize that at the end of the day, no one loves or cares about your kids as much as you do and the opinions of strangers are really not important. I encourage all my parent friends to use social media channels for good. Parenting isn’t easy, but it's easier when we stick together.

5. Don’t be afraid to do the things that make you feel like yourself

Maintaining a balanced lifestyle as a new parent is arguably the hardest task. It can be daunting to think about all of the things on your plate, and it's easy to lose track of yourself and what makes you happy. Becoming a parent makes you version 2.0 of yourself; all your priorities get reorganized, but you definitely still get to be you. So don’t feel guilty prioritizing solo time, even if it's just five minutes to actually drink your tea while it’s warm. Happy kids have happy parents who show them how it's done.

Probably when someone announces that they're expecting a baby, they should be the most excited person about the news. That may not be true in this case, because Aaron Paul and his perfect, perfect wife just announced on Instagram that their first baby is on the way, and we cannot. Can. Not.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum's Butt Selfie Is the Latest in Absurd Mom-Shaming

Mom-shamers are at it again, and this time, they’ve set their sights on Jenna Dewan-Tatum. On Monday, the dancer and actor posted a killer butt selfie in which she was overlooking a balcony while dressed in a sheer black bodysuit. She captioned the post, “Cheeky balcony series.”

However, despite Dewan’s pride in her body (and the approximate 800,000 squats she did to achieve it), not everyone on the internet was a fan of the photo. Immediately after posting, Dewan's feed was flooded with comments shaming her for baring (some of) her butt. Most comments criticized Dewan for setting a “poor example” for her 4-year-old daughter, Everly. Others slammed her for flaunting her body despite being married — a criticism that was quickly and rightfully dispelled by Dewan’s followers, who pointed out that her husband, Magic Mike star Channing Tatum, has exposed his body on several occasions and hasn’t received anywhere near this level of flak. Below is a selection of the inane comments for your entertainment.

“You have a kid... Shame on you”

“She’s a mother and married. Smh, disappointed at Jenna.”

“Of course she is hot but poor Everly. What signals is she sending to her young daughter? Mummy’s bum is all over the net haha. Lead by example.”

“Beautiful, but you are a mother. Be a role model for your daughter.”

“Not flattering to you as an intelligent woman. You look great, but you don’t need to objectify your body parts on IG or teach young girls to garner attention by posting sexual images of themselves on IG.”

More: It's Time to Stop the Baby-Name Shaming

Though Dewan-Tatum didn’t respond directly to the criticism, she did share an Instagram shortly after with the quote, “You can tell who the strong women are. They are the ones you see building up one another instead of tearing each other down.”

If the quote weren’t enough to drive in her disapproval of the shamers, Dewan accompanied her post with the caption, “To all the strong women out there. May we be them, may we know them, may we raise them Rise above judgment and step into love.”

Though we might not all have asses like Jenna Dewan-Tatum, can't we all do with a little more body-positive butt selfies on Instagram? Something we’d like to get rid of completely, though, is mom-shamers.

These Flexible Part-Time Jobs Are Perfect for Broke College Students

0
0

School's back in session and the grind is on — but how can a college student be expected to concentrate on their studies when they're so broke they have to live off of packaged Ramen noodles? Keeping your energy up is nearly impossible when you are nutritionally deprived, but the starving student stereotype doesn't come from thin air. The struggle is real.

And the struggle doesn't stop at food. College is excruciatingly expensive. So expensive, in fact, that most people nowadays need to take out loans to be able to go.

So what's a student to do? Get a job, that's what. There are plenty of jobs out there for hardworking students that can help pay for rent, food, and the other incidentals needed to make it through the college experience.

More: Send Your College Student Off to School With the Perfect Care Package

Searching for a job seems daunting (especially if you have no prior work experience), but these jobs are perfect for students. In addition to jobs on campus, there are other positions to consider if you’re in college, from jobs that are a little off-the-wall to the old standbys you shouldn't ignore. They might not pay for tuition in full, but they can sure help offset some costs so loan debt can be kept to a minimum — because we all know how hard it is to pay those suckers off.

Out-of-the-box part-time jobs

1. Birthday party character

Dressing up in costume may sound like a fun way to blow off steam on the weekend, but just think how interesting life would be if you could get paid for it. Kids’ birthday parties are taking off, and parents are looking for high-quality entertainment — often from costumed characters like princesses, fairies and superheroes who will travel on-site to play games with the kids or host a story hour. Professional party princesses reportedly make as much as $50 an hour.

2. Mystery shopper

While mystery shopper may scream, “scam alert,” this is a side gig stay-at-home moms have been doing for years, and it was only a matter of time before college students joined in on the fun. Mystery shoppers pose as customers and report back on a store’s service — with the potential to earn up to $14,000 a year, as confirmed by one successful shopper on Forbes. Though plenty of legitimate mystery shopping opportunities are available, just remember to research each company first before signing up to avoid any potential scams.

3. Grader

You’re already a professional student, so why not monetize what you do best? Yes, you can get paid for grading classroom assignments — potentially taking the load off a teacher or professor — through online universities or as a third party virtual grading assistant. A company like WriteScore may hire telecommuters to grade standardized tests at home for anywhere from $8 to $15 per hour, without prior experience, though a two-year degree may be required.

4. Virtual assistant

Speaking of virtual grading assistant, working as a part-time virtual assistant might be your next step. Many larger companies are looking to outsource entry-level administrative assistant positions to remote workers to cut costs and condense hours. Responsibilities may include manning a virtual front desk, performing administrative tasks on a website or even helping to audit and update search engines, depending on the employer. If you’re only available to work part-time, even better — companies seeking virtual support often have short-term or limited job needs.

5. Cruise ship employee

Finally, finally, having the erratic schedule of a college student is paying off. If your summers are free, you might be eligible for seasonal employment working aboard a cruise ship, with the obvious added perk of totally free travel. Available positions can vary widely and may be based on individual skill level, including servers, bartenders, cooks, housekeeping staff, child care workers, performers and photographers. Most cruise websites post their ongoing job listings, with a big push to beef up their crew before the summer cruise season begins.

“Old standby” part-time jobs

6. Waitress

Servers tend to make significantly more than minimum wage, and you can somewhat dictate your own schedule. Morning person? Work at a breakfast restaurant. Night owl? A dinner restaurant or bar is for you. Since tips are instant, you don’t have to wait two weeks to receive a paycheck, which is nice for college students short on cash.

7. Dog sitter/house sitter

Dog sitting and house sitting are easy, and people are willing to pay good money for someone they trust (think $100 per day or more). Start by letting family and friends know that you’re willing, posting fliers on mailboxes and in grocery stores and asking for referrals. Once you have an established clientele, you should be kept pretty busy (and if not, you can always keep advertising).

8. Tutor

You can tutor college students that are a year or so behind you, tutor younger kids or tutor kids online. By tutoring kids online, you have the flexibility of both working from home and creating your own schedule.

9. Fitness instructor

If you regularly attend the gym and fitness classes, you may as well be the instructor and get paid to work out and help get others in shape. If this ends up being something you enjoy, consider teaching private lessons, which pay almost double per hour than larger classes do.

10. Resident Assistant

Do you live in the dorms? If so, why not become a resident assistant (or RA)? Typically, you’ll get free room and board (or at least a generous discount) along with an hourly wage. The hours are great, you get your own room and there’s no commute. The only disadvantages are having to deal with late nights and sticky situations every now and again. But hey, realistically you’d be dealing with these anyway simply by living in the dorms.

Meet the New Cast Members Joining Will & Grace

0
0

After 11 long years out of the spotlight, 11 years of waiting and watching, 11 years of daring to dream that they might come back... it's finally happened: Will (Eric McCormack), Grace (Debra Messing), Karen (Megan Mullally) and Jack (Sean Hayes) are back. The Will & Grace revival, or Season 10 if you will, is back on the airwaves and we couldn't be more excited to see one of our favorite quartets back on our TV screens.

The show is not only back with a vengeance. It's bringing along some fan-favorite supporting stars and some new cast members, too. If anything, this Will & Grace revival is shaping up to be something truly special and fun.

More: The Official Release Dates for All Your Favorite Shows Coming Back in Fall

With the Will & Grace revival dead set on rewriting history so that the Season 9 finale, where Will and Grace move out of the NYC apartment and gradually drift apart until they meet again while dropping their kids off at college, is kaput. We're pressing the rewind button and going back to the happier days of Will & Grace when these besties were still, well, besties.

Turning back the clock means opening up Pandora's box of possibilities for which supporting characters will reenter the picture (because nothing is set in stone now) and which new characters enter the lives of Will, Grace, Karen and Jack. So, who can we look forward to seeing again? Check it out.

Kyle Bornheimer

You may not recognize Bornheimer's name right off the bat, but you may recognize his face. The seasoned supporting actor has appeared in films like Bachelorette and TV shows like The Mindy Project, Casual, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Better Call Saul. According to his Will & Grace TVLine casting announcement, Bornheimer will "appear in the premiere as Lenny, a security officer who (presumably) crosses paths with one or more of the Fab Four."

Ben Platt

Tony-award winner Platt is set to guest star for one Will & Grace revival episode, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There are no details yet on who he will play, but considering Platt is a master performer both in the theater and in film (recognize him from the Pitch Perfect franchise?), there's a good chance Platt will plot up in a very surprising place in the revival.

Andrew Rannells

Fresh off his hilarious and bittersweet run on HBO's Girls, Broadway heavy hitter Rannells was recently announced as a guest star on the Will & Grace revival. The details on Rannells' character are currently being kept under wraps, although we do know he will only be around for one episode and he'll be appearing on the same episode as Jane Lynch. Can you say comedy gold?

Jane Lynch

One of the more recent new additions, Lynch was confirmed to appear on Will & Grace in a guest role in early September by The Hollywood Reporter. Lynch's most prominent TV role to date is that of Coach Sue Sylvester in Glee, although she has popped up on shows like Criminal Minds, The Real O'Neals and The Good Fight. THR reports she's only set for one episode — that we know of — and she'll be appearing in the same episode as Rannells.

In late August, it was announced on TVLine that Driver would be reviving her role as Lorraine Finster, Karen's step-daughter and eternal rival, on the Will & Grace revival. Around the same time as the TVLine announcement was made, Driver posted a photo of herself, Mullally and Messing backstage before they began filming. While Lorraine and Karen have a tangled history (Lorraine was the mistress of Karen's husband, for which Karen got her revenge by sleeping with Lorraine's father), anything goes where the revival is concerned.

Cannavale was recently confirmed as a returning cast member to Will & Grace and he's already been spotted on set quite a fair amount. This includes a very sweet photo with McCormack, captioned, "These guys. #setlife." When the show was originally on the air, Cannavale played Vince D'Angelo, the NYPD officer who becomes Will's boyfriend. It looks like Vince and Will might be having a happy reunion in the revival, right?

Connick is confirmed to return to his role in the Will & Grace revival: Leo, Grace's love interest and who she ended up marrying in the series finale back in 2006. It will be curious to see where he and Grace stand now that the revival is set to erase the finale altogether and start fresh. Regardless of where the story picks up, it looks like Leo will still be having fun with the old gang. Recent posts on Connick's Instagram show him goofing around on set with Hayes on the piano and taking cute selfies with Mullally.
