Reese Witherspoon Is the Ultimate Women's Woman in New Interview

It takes one heck of a strong woman to survive in Hollywood as long as Reese Witherspoon has. Her first major role was in 1991 — more than 25 years ago! — and she's been crushing the game ever since. So it's no wonder that when she decides to impart on us some of her wisdom for being an ass-kicking lady in 2017, we're all going to sit back and listen.

Witherspoon is this month's cover girl for Glamour magazine, and with that, she gave an interview with the magazine about chasing ambition and finding success as a woman.

First, though, a little advice from the queen: "Run away from a man who can’t handle your ambition," she said. "Run. So many men think ambition is awesome and sexy!" Amen.

She continued, "We have to do our part to change the idea that a woman with passion and ambition is only out for herself. So talk to your kids about ambition as a positive trait in men and women."

Witherspoon starred in HBO's critically acclaimed series Big Little Lies, but the show came under fire for its nearly all-white cast. Witherspoon wasn't defensive about that and instead talked about how it made her check her privilege and think about what she can do to make space in Hollywood for women of color.

"Another thing I think about a lot is how it feels to be a minority woman in America, so rarely seeing yourself onscreen, and it's unconscionable," she said. "When I asked Mindy Kaling, ‘Don't you ever get exhausted by always having to create your own roles?' she said, 'Reese, I've never had anything that I didn't create for myself."

Witherspoon continued, "I thought, 'Wow, I feel like a jerk for asking that; I used to have parts that just showed up for me. I can't imagine how hard it is to write your own parts and simultaneously have to change people's perceptions of what a woman of color is in today's society.'"

Just in case you had forgotten before this interview, Witherspoon is a role model worth having.

Netflix is Bringing Back 'Magic School Bus' & It's an All-Star Cast

Remember the days when Netflix might hit the spot if you were hankering for, say, the Chinese restaurant episode of Seinfeld, but not much else? The times, they have a-changed, kids.

There's no question that today's Netflix fare for adults is in high demand, and guess what: the kids department might have just caught up. Just take a look at the new trailer for The Magic School Bus Rides Again, aka the greatest and smartest kids show of the '90s brought back to life. Bonus: Let's see if you can name the fella singing the theme song.

Lin-Manuel Magic School Bus

Lin-Manuel Magic School Bus

Yep — Hamilton devotees young and old will rejoice, as that is indeed the voice of one multi-Tony-Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Lin-Manuel GIF

And he's not the only one helping Netflix launch the beloved children's series into 2017; comic goddess Lily Tomlin and Kate freaking McKinnon are on board this ever-festive bus as well. Tomlin is reprising her role as Ms. Frizzle — now promoted to Professor Frizzle, of course — from the original PBS version. McKinnon, meanwhile, is playing Fiona Frizzle, Professor Friz's younger sister, who's now in charge of the coolest TV classroom ever. Expect field trips on the Magic School Bus to require plenty of liability waivers, as the class is likely to visit every continent as well as, you know, the molten core of the sun.

I personally would sign all the things for my kids to be allowed onto this bus and would also volunteer as parent aide. Honestly, I trust Lily Tomlin and Kate McKinnon to drive my family anywhere.

Well done, Netflix. Now you can get started on that Captain Planet reboot we've all been waiting for.

That One Time John Legend Tried to Dump Chrissy Teigen

They may look like the perfect couple on social media, but even John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have their struggles. For example, one time they had a disagreement over whether Legend was going to break up with Teigen. Yes, you read that right.

More: John Legend Gets Candid About Chrissy Teigen's Drinking

Legend spoke The Guardian about the hilarious fight that happened back when he and Teigen first started dating in 2006. He wanted to end things, and Teigen basically shut him down. "I was really stressed and busy," Legend explained. "I was just like: 'I’d just be happier single right now,' and she was like: 'No.'"

They did end up breaking up, Legend added, but only for a little over an hour. Teigen, who kind of rules Twitter, was quick to weigh in on the social media platform with some more details from her side of the story.

"It wasn't a typical breakup. He was on tour and his voice hurt and he was being a whiny face about everything and so yeah, I was like 'no,'" she wrote.

This isn't the first time we've heard this story. As you might remember, Teigen told her side of it in an interview with Cosmopolitan last year.

"Early on in the relationship, I was on tour with him and he’d gotten sick," she explained at the time. "He was feeling really bummed and stressed out. He was like, 'I can’t be in a relationship right now.'"

She continued, "That lasted for one day. Literally, a day. I knew it came from a place other than us not working... I always joke, 'Remember when you tried to break up with me?' He’s like, 'Yes, sorry. Big mistake.'"

And now, they are going strong 11 years later. Sounds like Teigen made the right choice in refusing to let that breakup happen.

4 Health Benefits of Being Naked (Seriously)

$
0
0

How often are you naked? More than, say, the time it takes you to change clothes, shower or have sex? Do you like being naked, or do you avoid it as much as you can?

If you are a person with breasts and a vagina, you’ve probably been given serious mixed signals about nudity. On one hand, it’s seen as a taboo; you should cover up as much as possible because you don’t want to appear overtly sexual, and on the other hand, wearing clothing that covers "too much" of your body means you aren’t interested in being attractive to men, which is also apparently bad.

It’s hard to get that kind of double-talk out of your mind, especially when combined with messages that women’s bodies are perpetually imperfect, and unless yours is deemed exceptional, you should feel ashamed of it.

What if I told you there were actual health benefits to nudity? (Aside from having better sex, which we know improves overall health throughout our lives.) Well, it turns out there are, and they might make you think about how you can spend more time clothes-free.

More: The great naked experiment: Why 7 days without clothes was so worth it

Naked sleep can help your insomnia (& more)

If you have trouble sleeping, try being naked. According to Dr. Fran Walfish, a Beverly Hills family and relationship psychotherapist and author, the skin-to-skin contact that happens when you sleep naked with someone else releases oxytocin, a hormone that reduces blood pressure, combats stress and depression and might improve orgasms.

You don’t have to have a partner to reap the benefits of naked sleep, though — whether or not you’re with someone, sleeping naked will likely result in better sleep, since clothes can hamper your body’s natural ability to cool itself down and achieve an ideal temperature for sleep and metabolization.

It can improve your mood

Being naked can provide that elusive “new” feeling that we don’t get as often as we get older according to Sandra Hilton, a physical therapist in private practice in Chicago.

“If being naked makes you happy and you find a way to enjoy the sensation, it could lead to better self-image," she explains. "There is a certain feeling of exhilaration to being naked that provides a novel stimulus and doing new, fun things is certainly a health benefit!”

If being naked is not fun for you but you’d like to change that, start incorporating more nudity into your life slowly. Britanny Burr, an author at Psych n Sex, suggests finding others who are curious about exploring nudity and supporting each other in asking questions and experimenting with new things, like being naked in private spaces where you feel safe.

Burr suggests looking at and touching your naked body more frequently. Others don’t have to see you for it to count — do it on your own terms.

It’s good for your immune system & your skin

A lack of vitamin D can really mess with you since it’s directly related to the function of your immune system. So having your skin exposed to the sun (while wearing sunscreen, of course), which increases levels of vitamin D, is a great way to boost immunity to colds and viruses.

Being naked is also good for your skin for reasons that aren’t vitamin D-related. You sweat less when you’re naked, of course, and that can reduce occurrences of rashes and breakouts.

More: Should your child see you naked?

It could make breastfeeding easier

If you’re considering breastfeeding, it might be beneficial to start getting comfortable with being topless now. Cracked nipples can be a part of the breastfeeding experience, especially while you’re getting used to it, so letting your breasts get some air after feeding can help your nipples heal.

Lactation consultant Becky Flora advises leaving both sides of your nursing bra open while feeding instead of covering up the breast you aren’t using at the moment. By regularly exposing your breasts to the air, you also can reduce the likelihood of developing mastitis, the inflammation of the breast that happens when milk ducts get clogged and can result in infection.

So next time you're on the fence about whether to spend some time in the buff, give it a try — as long as you are in a safe, private place where you feel comfortable.

Is Your Toxic Co-worker Hurting Your Relationship With Your Kids?

By Alex Winston

Even if you work a 9-to-5 office job, you’ve no doubt brought a little bit of work stress home with you at some point. On the rough days, it’s hard to completely separate yourself from that time-sensitive project, that demanding boss and especially those catty co-workers. But have you had the chance to think about how negativity at work is affecting your relationships, especially with your kids?

Various studies suggest that bad moods inspired by workplace stressors — and co-workers, in particular — stay with us after we leave the office. Rudeness from co-workers can have a significantly negative impact on a person’s home life, and as a result, their relationship with their children.

More: 5 Ways to Stay Sane During the School Year

Led by Sandy Lim of the University of Singapore, a team of psychological scientists found that employees who deal with high levels of incivility at work are more likely to take out their negative mood on their families once they’re at home.

“Workplace incivility is a subtle form of interpersonal mistreatment,” the researchers wrote. “Uncivil behaviors are typically rude or discourteous behaviors that violate workplace norms of respect, for example, insulting remarks, addressing others in unprofessional terms and the use of a condescending tone.”

These behaviors can happen in any workplace, but they are statistically more likely to be focused toward a specific kind of employee: working moms. And unfortunately, there’s scientific proof to back it up. According to studies by the American Psychological Association, the number of children a workingwoman has dictates how she’s treated in the workplace.

“Mothers reported more incivility than fathers and childless women reported more incivility than childless men,” the study reads. “Mothers with three children were treated more uncivilly than women with fewer children.”

This workplace incivility is in addition to all of the other hurdles working moms face: outdated gender stereotypes, the pay gap, etc. In other studies, mothers were more likely than non-mothers to be viewed as less competent and less motivated. Men did not have to struggle with this perception.

The University of Singapore study found a correlation between experiencing incivility at work and feelings of hostility, which were eventually brought back to employees’ families: “Our findings show that the experience of incivility was positively related to feelings of hostility, which was in turn associated with increased angry family behaviors, as rated by spouses.”

Scary, right? Nobody wants to accidentally hurt the people they care about. The next time you’re dealing with toxic co-worker stress and you want to keep it out of the house, here are a few strategies you can implement.

1. Talk to an office confidant. Your instinct might be to vent once you get home, but keep your work complaints at work instead. Lynn Taylor, author of Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant: How to Manage Childish Boss Behavior and Thrive in Your Job, says it’s important to keep your professional life out of your personal life and vice versa. “It’s natural, for instance, to come home wanting to vent,” Taylor told Business Insider. “But this kind of thing can wear thin on your partner (or children) over time, as they may feel helpless.”

2. Go on a walk. Take some time to de-stress with some solo action. Go on a walk around the block and take a mental break. The endorphins you release will trigger a positive feeling in your body, and you’ll be able to look at your situation with a clearer head. You might find that a short break is just what you need for a fresher perspective, and when you return to the office, that rude co-worker will no longer dominate your day.

3. Spend time with your family. Yes, you read that right! Even though you’re actively trying to keep stress away from your loved ones, research shows that family time can help women deal with tough situations. So get together with your kids and/or partner — just make sure you’re doing an activity that distracts you from work.

People Are Actually Shaming Kate Middleton for Her Pregnancy

If you ever feel like women can't win for losing, well, the following news likely won't bolster any hope to the contrary. Because — despite it being an inherently joyous occasion — the news of Kate Middleton's pregnancy is being met by some with shaming and misogynistic bullying.

Following Middleton's announcement on Monday that she and Prince William were expecting their third child, feedback naturally began to pop up all over social media. As to be expected, many followers of the royal family chimed in with simple congratulatory sentiments (otherwise known as the normal response to such news).

However, not everyone seems to think the pregnancy is cause for celebration. These people apparently feel as though they have the right to judge what Middleton decides to do with her own body. And, even worse, they feel the need to share their unsolicited and unwarranted opinions on the internet.

As for Middleton, fortunately she's probably too busy with her royal duties to pay attention to online assertions diminishing a woman's autonomy over her own body.

If you really want to feel your frozen heart start to slowly thaw, though, consider for a moment the story of how Bacon and Sedgwick met in the first place.

During an appearance on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Bacon revealed they actually met prior to the 1988 PBS adaptation of the play Lemon Sky — which is widely reputed to be their "meet-cute." In fact, the two exchanged pleasantries for the first time during the '70s.

Bacon had just performed in a prior play, after which he walked into a deli. In the deli was a little girl and her brother who had seen the matinee performance.

Upon recognizing Bacon, the brother told the little girl, "'You liked that actor, go tell him you liked him." As it turns out, says Bacon, "it was Kyra." At the time, she was 12 years old and he was 19 years old, so the exchange naturally ended there.

However, when they met again on the set of Lemon Sky (when they were both in their 20s), it felt like fate. They married in 1988 and went on to have two children together: son Travis, 28, and daughter Sosie, 25.

The Internet Is Losing It Over Those AHS: Cult Clowns

It wouldn't be autumn without something to scare the ever-living daylights out of us, so why not have that scare-inducing indulgence be the unnerving American Horror Story: Cultr? The seventh season of AHS premiered on Tuesday August 5 and brought with it a whole mess of 2016 Election emotions (mostly sadness and terror, which is eerily relatable) and clowns. Lots and lots of clowns.

More: 10 Best Sarah Paulson Moments From All AHS Seasons

Clowns were prevalent in this Cult season premiere if only because they are the primary fear of Ally, the protagonist of this season and played by AHS alum Sarah Paulson. Poor Ally is not dealing with the election of Donald J. Trump very well when the scene opens in November 2016. It was a dark time for a great many Americans and we get to relive that horrible election fall out through Ally's eyes.

While Ally was trying to deal with the immediate trauma of the election, it would seem that her old phobias are coming back to haunt her, too; stress will do that to you. Her fragile sense of reality soon becomes exploited by Kai, a young man who is pretty psyched about Trump's win and a man who's ready to get spread the good word about his new president. This includes sending Winter to Ally's house, where she interviews to be the nanny for Ally and her wife, Ivy's, son. Not only is Winter there to slowly drive Ally insane, but she begins to exploit the knowledge of Ally's fear of clowns to great effect.

How Lyme Disease Can Affect Your Sexual & Reproductive Health

$
0
0

What do you know about Lyme disease (other than the fact that you should be checking yourself for ticks on the regular)?

You might know that Lyme is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks and that early symptoms of the disease include fatigue, muscle aches, joint pain and in some cases, a rash in the shape of a bull’s eye. If you’re diagnosed early, you can be treated with antibiotics and recover fully.

If you’re not treated, however, and often Lyme is misdiagnosed because it looks like a lot of other conditions, there can be complications, such as memory problems, palsy and chronic joint inflammation. Folks who are treated for Lyme can also have symptoms after treatment, which is known as post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome.

More: Lyme disease symptoms that are misdiagnosed as the flu

It turns out that Lyme, especially if it’s chronically occurring, can also impact your sexual and reproductive health. In 2014, research published in the Journal of Investigative Medicine suggested that Lyme can be transmitted sexually from person to person. In particular, women with Lyme regularly have bacteria that causes the disease in their vagina secretions, whereas men are less consistent in secreting Lyme bacteria in their semen.

“I inform my patients that it is possible Lyme disease could be sexually transmitted, as the bacteria has been found in sexual fluids,” said Dr. Christine Green, a Lyme disease practitioner in California. “But I inform them that proving transmission has not been done, possibly because it is not sexually transmitted or possibly because those studies are expensive, controversial or/and we do not have an agreed upon test that confirms active Lyme.”

Like other chronic illnesses, Lyme can complicate your sex life in various ways, particularly because of the symptoms of fatigue, weakness and pain that accompany it.

More: Yolanda Hadid Reveals Her Struggle With Lyme Disease Made Her Consider Suicide

“Sexual dysfunction seems to be a very common occurrence for those with Lyme disease, yet no one seems to want to admit to it, or talk about it with their doctors,” noted Kim, a blogger who chronicles her experiences with Lyme at Kimmie Cakes Kicks Lyme.

Folks with Lyme often report a lack of interest in sex, which is likely the result of the fact that Lyme impacts the body’s nervous system as well as the endocrine system, where some hormones are produced. Margaret, 52, reported that her libido did return after she began taking a testosterone cream, often prescribed by doctors for both men and women with Lyme.

Surprisingly, Lyme doesn’t necessarily have to affect fertility, although the compromising of one’s immune system can impact your ability to sustain a pregnancy. Menstrual irregularity is also reported in half of Lyme patients, which can also make getting pregnant tricky. (Super-heavy periods, migraines and terrible cramps are also common in those with Lyme.)

More: Lyme disease prevention tips

It’s also possible, although relatively unlikely, to transmit the disease in utero. The CDC recommends that women with Lyme continue to be treated with antibiotics throughout pregnancy in order to avoid passing it on to the fetus.

Danielle Phillipp waited until she was essentially symptom-free to get pregnant. “If you are still having severe Lyme symptoms, it probably isn’t a good idea to try and get pregnant,” she wrote. “The way I see it is, if your body is full of infection, it will be that much harder to fight it off from the baby.”

Because stress is a huge part of both parenting and negotiating Lyme, taking care of your mental health before, during and after pregnancy is also important. While many women with Lyme do go on to have successful pregnancies, it’s vital to remember that the disease is different for everyone and that consulting with a Lyme-literate doctor is an important part of navigating fertility and pregnancy with the disease.

Alexander Skarsgård Hilariously Supported His Baby Brother at the It Premiere

I know it was meant to be a bit of a scary evening, but honestly, the only thing I can focus on was the trifecta of Swedish glory known as the Skarsgård brothers at the It premiere. Older brothers Alexander and Gustaf, actors you know from Big Little Lies and Vikings respectively, attended to support their baby brother, Bill. Bill is actually playing the titular demonic clown It, so this was a pretty special evening, for him especially.

But even though it was Bill's special night, it seems like his brothers were having more fun than he was. That's not to say that Bill looked like a total grump during the red carpet entrance, but if you saw the photos that were taken of Alexander in particular, you'd see what I mean.

Because aside from looking ridiculously dapper on the It red carpet, Alexander appeared to be having a grand old time joking around with Bill. Various photos caught him and his brothers posing very nicely (and handsomely, might I add) for photographers — and then Alexander decided to joke around. Why not? At the premiere of a frightfest like It, where your own brother plays a demonic clown, you should be able to gently josh around with him.

And josh around he did. I'm not sure whether the brothers planned it or not, but Alexander took a moment to have some fun by making silly faces behind Bill's back. At one point, he looked super-shocked to see Bill; maybe he was acting like he was in mock-awe of seeing the star of It live and in person?

In another shot, with Bill looking totally unfazed, Alexander leaned in to make what can only be described as a smile-growl. Or is it a growl-smile? Very odd, but very adorable.

It's great to see the Skarsgård brothers out in full force to support one another, as was the case with the It premiere. The men come from a big acting family, with their father Stellan being perhaps the most prolific of them all. That means there are lots of red carpet events to attend and there are lots of occasions to show up and support your family. In fact, Alexander and Stellan appeared together for Stellan's film The Avengers and Alexander joined Gustaf on the red carpet at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards. Family supporting family: it's a beautiful thing.

Clearly, Alexander had the most fun at the It premiere, even though this evening was really all about his brother. Can you blame him? I mean, who says that little brothers who happen to be the star of the film whose premiere you're attending get to have all the fun?

My Teen Won't Use a Smartphone — Will He Still Have a Social Life?

Welcome to “Survivor,” in which author Catherine Newman tries to answer your questions about adolescents and why they’re like that — and how to love them despite everything.

Have a question for Newman? Send it to her here.

Question:

How do you help your teen negotiate a social life when he doesn't want to use a smartphone? Emailing isn't working. Carrier pigeon?‬‬‬

Answer:

My 17-year-old son was really shy in preschool. He wanted to be home, to be cozy and safe, curled up on the couch with Richard Scarry’s Busytown and Beewee the stuffed monkey. But he was at school, and every day during recess while all the other 3- and 4-year-olds ran around screaming and charged at each other with sticks and huddled in happy, playful little clots, 17 would climb up into a tree and sit up there, watching quietly. He did not express dismay about this fact, but I worried about it, about him — I wanted him to be like the rest of the kids because it seemed troubling that he wasn’t.

“Are you worried about him?” I asked his lovely, brilliant preschool teacher, and she said, “Not at all. How rare and special for a person to know exactly what he needs! I hope he keeps that quality for his whole life.” Not hiding in a tree, of course, but taking care of himself.

Which is a long way of saying, "I think that’s probably what your kid is doing. Taking care of himself — and maybe taking care of himself in that slightly baffling, occasionally disheartening way of introverts."

Fourteen, who herself doesn’t have or want a phone, had this to say: “Not having a smartphone might decrease the activity of his social life, but it’s very possible that, consciously or subconsciously, that’s actually why your kid doesn’t want a phone.”

Can you honor his impulse not to be connected? I picture myself in middle school climbing into my flannel nightgown the second I got home, and I can’t imagine being a teenager today — socially on call every second, wired-in and available and performing your snazziest self every second.

That said, 17 — who didn’t get a smartphone until he was 14 — loves his phone, and he seems able to balance the social imperative of being on it with the psychological imperative of putting it away and taking a break. He also had zero social life until that phone, but he’s not sure about cause and effect here. He feels like he didn’t get a phone until he was kind of socially ready to get a phone, but also that his social readiness came partly from having a phone. Kind of a paradox.

More: Social Media is Causing Depression Among Teen Girls

“Before I had one,” he said, “I imagined I wouldn’t make more plans when I did. And then I got one, and it was like a sheet was pulled off of all this communication that was going on. Not like people were meaning to exclude me, but just that so much was happening in an improv-y way. 'I’m in town! Does anyone want to meet for pizza?' Nobody would email that to me. Sure, a big party or something I would hear about. But not the everyday stuff. After, I felt like it really, really improved my social life.”

“So what should I tell this mom?” I asked 17. “Do you wish you’d gotten a phone sooner?” And he said, “I was just wondering that. Not sooner by much. Spring of ninth grade — I feel like that was in some ways when I sort of starting solidifying my friendships with the people who are my friends now. It took a while of having a hard time making plans to motivate me to get a phone. And a flip phone worked for a while as an interim solution.”

Fourteen seems to be on a similar timetable, imagining she’ll get a phone this coming spring in ninth grade. Email works OK in her friend group because there are a few of them who don’t have phones, but she recommends that your son remind his friends to loop him in when they’re making a plan. “He won’t be in on all the little stuff, but he might not want to be. At least he’ll know if there’s a big thing happening.”

Take it from her. Seriously. She is really resistant to being socially rushed, and I am picturing her brother up in that tree knowing what he needed. “Plus,” she added, “it’s really annoying when you’re hanging out with people, and they’re on their phones the whole time. It’s kind of boring and shitty and makes you feel like they don’t really want to be spending time with you.” So you can be glad your son’s not like that.

Fourteen’s last piece of advice should probably be my parenting mantra: “You can probably just leave him alone,” she said. “It will all sort itself out.”

Updated Sept. 6, 2017, 8:50 a.m. PT: We now have a confirmed Dancing with the Stars Season 25 cast list, and it's going to be as star-studded as we've come to expect.

Here's who will officially be competing for the Season 25 Mirrorball trophy and the pros they're paired with:

  • Total Divas' Nikki Bella, with Artem Chigvintsev
  • Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran, with Keo Motsepe
  • Former NBA star Derek Fisher, with Sharna Burgess
  • Paralympic swimmer Victoria Arlen, with Val Chmerkovskiy
  • NFL star Terrell Owens, with Cheryl Burke
  • Nick Lachey, with Peta Murgatroyd
  • Vanessa Lachey, with Maks Chmerkovskiy
  • Violinist Lindsey Stirling, with Mark Ballas
  • Singer Jordan Fisher, with Lindsay Arnold
  • Debbie Gibson, with Alan Bersten
  • Property Brothers star Drew Scott, with Emma Slater
  • Actor Frankie Muniz, with Witney Carson
  • Pretty Little Liars star Sasha Pieterse, with Gleb Savchenko

All eyes will be on the Lacheys, a married couple who are paired with married pros. It will also be interesting to see how HGTV star Drew Scott fares, and it will certainly be fun to see Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran cut a rug. We can't wait to see what kind of drama that will cause.

Season 25 of DWTS premieres Monday, Sept. 18.

Updated September 1, 2017, 8:25 a.m. PT: An anonymous source has revealed more cast members for Dancing with the Stars Season 25, and it looks like it's shaping up to be a good one. According to E! Online, the following celebrities are ready to lace up their dancing shoes and hit the floor: Grease! Live singer and actor Jordan Fisher, Malcolm in the Middle's Frankie Muniz, NBA star Derek Fisher, Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran and former paralympic swimmer Victoria Arlen.

Of course, ABC hasn't confirmed any of these rumors yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if they're true — we heard about Drew Scott joining the show way ahead of the official casting announcement (see below).

Gone are the days when networks could keep secrets from being spoiled in the news. But whatever, we're ready to watch this dancing showdown. It all starts Sept. 18.

Updated August 28, 2017, 8:40 a.m. PT: Dancing with the Stars Season 25 has two new competitors — and they know each other well.

Married couple Nick and Vanessa Lachey will each compete for the Mirrorball trophy this season, joining an already impressively star-studded cast list. We only have a few questions: Which Lachey will advance further? Who will their kids root for? Will they use how well they know each other to sabotage, or will they compete peacefully? There are no rules in love, war and Dancing with the Stars, as the old saying (kinda) goes.

The Lacheys competing against each other as a married couple isn't unprecedented for the show. In Season 21, Carlos and Alexa PenaVega went head to head. Alexa came in sixth place, while Carlos went all the way to the semis.

Updated August 24, 2017, 11:50 a.m. PT: After a few seasons away, Entertainment Tonight reported that dance pro Mark Ballas would return to Dancing with the Stars for Season 25.

Mark Ballas DWTS Season 25

Mark Ballas DWTS Season 25

Ballas was last seen on Season 22 of DWTS, so his return has caused a lot of excitement. Good Morning America also announced the other pros that will return for Season 25, including: Emma Slater, Lindsay Arnold, Keo Motsepe, Artem Chigvintsev, Gleb Savchenko, Sharna Burgess and Witney Carson. Pro Alan Bersten is set to make his debut.

Original story:

Judging by the casting rumors, Dancing with the Stars is about to two-step its way into the most interesting season yet. Not only have sources been buzzing about ABC courting controversial contestants Sean Spicer and DeMario Jackson, the latest reports also suggest the network has secured TV fan favorites Drew Scott and Nikki Bella for the eclectic cast.

More: Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Peta Murgatroyd Had the Most Magical Wedding in 2017

Word has it we'll find out for sure on Thursday, Aug. 24 when ABC officially announces the cast for Season 25 on Good Morning America. Until then, it's anyone's guess who'll actually make the cut. But, hey, here's hoping this most recent round of rumors turns out to be true — who wouldn't love to see Property Brothers' Drew Scott and Total Divas' Nikki Bella compete for the coveted Mirrorball trophy?

An HGTV fan favorite, Scott appears alongside his twin brother Jonathan on their popular home renovation series. A dapper dresser and smoother talker, he serves as the foil to his flannel-wearing, hammer-wielding contractor bro (who admittedly would have been fun to watch on the dance floor too).

Coincidentally, Bella is also a twin — one-half of WWE's famous Bella Twins with sister Brie. That's not Bella's only claim to fame, either. She happens to be engaged to another huge name in the wrestling world: John Cena.

Yep, if this all shakes out, it should be quite a spectacle to behold. Dancing with the Stars Season 25 premieres on Monday, Sept. 18 at 8/7c on ABC.

Katie Holmes & Jamie Foxx Take Their Love to the Beach

At long last, Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes are doing what couples do: hanging out in public. But does the timing of their PDA lend credence to one of Hollywood's strangest rumors? It might. Foxx and Holmes have reportedly been a couple since 2013, even though they've denied it and their friends have denied it. Still, they've been Hollywood's worst-kept secret, having been spotted together (albeit rarely) but still looking like a loved-up couple to the point that it was clear to everyone what was going on.

More: Jamie Foxx & Katie Holmes Are Doing Really Great

All of a sudden, though, they don't seem to care that much anymore. They were spotted having a public dinner together earlier this summer, and now they've been photographed on a beach in Malibu walking hand-in-hand, apparently telling the whole world that yes, they are dating, and they suddenly don't care who knows it.

So why are they suddenly being so open about the love they've worked so hard to keep a secret? It's certainly interesting that they would suddenly let themselves be photographed together, but the timing is nothing short of intriguing.

One fascinating theory alleges Holmes was forbidden to publicly "embarrass" her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, following their divorce in 2012. The Daily Beast claims this is in connection with Cruise's involvement in Scientology, with fears that Holmes would discuss her marriage to Cruise or the church with the press. Violating the agreement reportedly would have meant paying back nearly $10 million in divorce settlement money and child support, sources said, and that this divorce clause might have been up in June. This should be taken with a huge grain of salt, however, because it's difficult to substantiate these kinds of claims, although it is a very interesting theory if only because of the timing.

Could that be the reason Foxx and Holmes are suddenly so cavalier about their formerly secret relationship? We might never know for sure.

Millennial Pink Chocolate Is Here, & We Can't Wait to Get Our Hands on It

Every now and then, there comes a trend that takes over everything, from decor and fashion to food. Millennial pink is one of those trends, but instead of getting tired of it, I continue to be amazed by all the ways it's incorporated into our lives.

The most exciting one so far, IMHO, is ruby chocolate, a new chocolate formula produced by Barry Callebaut, the famous chocolatier. The pink-colored, fruity-flavored chocolate recently debuted at an event in Shanghai, China. There hasn't been a totally new kind of chocolate introduced to the market since white chocolate got its start 80 years ago, so this is a very big deal, and not just because the color is totally on-trend.

More: Krispy Kreme Is Releasing a Pumpkin Spice Doughnut — There's Just One Catch

Ruby chocolate isn't artificially dyed to achieve its pink hue. It's made from ruby cocoa beans, which make red cacao powder when they're processed. Reportedly, the chocolate has its own flavor too — it's rumored to be a little more fruity than the dark, milk or white chocolate you're used to, with a "tension between berry-fruitiness and luscious smoothness" that's unique to this new varietal according to the company.

More: Starbucks Now Has a Turmeric Latte, but There's a Catch

There's no word on when we can actually start buying up all this chocolate, but the company did say they see big potential for it to be produced at a variety of price points. That's good news if you sometimes just want a quick and easy chocolate fix (and, uh, who doesn't?) instead of shelling out more cash for something fancy.

Watch this space for an update on when the amazing-seeming ruby chocolate will be commercially available. Until then, I guess we can all just get our millennial pink food fix with these pineapples.

The Aladdin Live-Action Remake Will Introduce a New Character

After the success of Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, fans were understandably excited for Aladdin to get the same live-action treatment. But a number of announcements about the upcoming film have left fans skeptical to say the least.

More: Carrie Fisher's Daughter Wrote the Most Heartfelt Speech in Her Honor

First, there was the news that Jasmine would be played by Naomi Scott, an actor who is British and Indian rather than Middle Eastern like all the characters in the original story. Aladdin will be played by Egyptian actor Mena Massoud, which seems to have helped smooth things over with fans who were disappointed in Jasmine's casting.

But now, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that there will be a completely new character in the live-action version of the story. This new character will be played by actor Billy Magnussen, who is clearly white. What makes the news even harder for fans to swallow is that Magnussen's character's name is "Prince Anders." We don't know any plot details yet, but you know that sounds like he's a rival prince who is also competing for Jasmine's heart, which doesn't sound like the Aladdin many of us grew up with.

The announcement of Magnussen's casting has left fans feeling very upset; it's totally understandable. For a movie that's set in the ancient Middle East where white people literally don't exist and furthermore to add what might well be a white character into a cast that's clearly focused on staying true to casting actors of color, as the logic of Aladdin dictates, is as confusing as it is frustrating.

Look, the fans have a point here. There was no need to add a white actor to Aladdin, a story that should be a space for people of color since it focuses on the lives of people of color. Those spaces are already so lacking in Hollywood, and at the moment, it still seems completely unnecessary that an arbitrary white character was added into this precious film for no reason.

Update: Kim & Kanye's Third Baby Is Definitely on the Way

Updated Sept. 6, 2017, 12:30 p.m. ET: A source confirmed to People on Sept. 6 that the woman serving as pregnancy surrogate for Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West is indeed three months pregnant and expects to deliver the third (and final?!) Kardashian-West baby in mid-January. No word yet on the baby's sex or the myriad of — no doubt fascinating — baby name options.

Original story:

Keeping up with all those Kardashians is no easy feat. After all, there are almost as many Kardashians as there are Duggars — and man, that's really saying something.

And soon, there might be yet another Kardashian on the way. "I hope so," Kim Kardashian West told The Hollywood Reporter on the topic of a possible third baby. "There have been a lot of things said and Kanye and I have not confirmed anything." Well, until now. Kim told the publication that she and West are "definitely trying." Who knows what North, 4, and Saint, 20 months, would make of a new sibling?

More: Is Kim Kardashian West Considering Surrogacy as an Option for a Third Child?

Intriguingly, Kardashian West has yet to address or confirm Us Weekly's July report that she already opted for a surrogate pregnancy this time around. The Us Weekly story claimed that a young San Diego woman was chosen by West and Kardashian West through an agency — and the story went so far as to say the surrogate is pregnant and expects to deliver the next Kardashian West in January 2018. But we're not believing anything until we hear it from Kardashian West.

More: The Kardashian Posse Throws a Moana-Themed Birthday Party for Cousins North & Penelope

Kardashian West has spoken candidly about her high-risk pregnancies. After delivering North, Kardashian West suffered from the life-threatening condition placenta accreta, which is when the placenta attaches abnormally to the muscles of the uterine wall.

"My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails. How disgusting and painful!!!" Kardashian West said on her website. "My mom was crying; she had never seen anything like this before. My delivery was fairly easy, but then going through that — it was the most painful experience of my life!"

More: Kim Kardashian on Her High-Risk Pregnancy

Here's hoping Baby No. 3 is on the horizon for West and Kardashian West — with no scary stuff involved.

Perhaps by the time all these Kardashian kids are grown up and having their own kids, magazine covers will have to double in size to accommodate photos of the entire family entwining limbs while draped in ecru and beige half-outfits. There is that to think about.

Kate Middleton Is Struggling With Hyperemesis Gravidarum — Again

$

Three things the Queen of England does not want us to think about:

  1. Corgis mating
  2. How royal babies are made
  3. The lovely former Kate Middleton clinging to a porcelain throne instead of her rightful one, puking while Prince William holds her hair and says lovely encouraging things like, "Good on you, luv!" and the nanny tries in vain to keep Prince George and Princess Charlotte out of the bathroom. Royals: They, too, are susceptible to awful, rare, mind-boggling health conditions that simply don't discriminate.

Don't worry about the corgis, Your Majesty. (Sorry, but we just don't care.) That said, royal reproduction has definitely been on our minds ever since Kensington Palace tweeted on Sept. 3 that Kate and William are indeed expecting their third child.

Royal tweet

Royal tweet

The duchess is early in her first trimester — so why the official announcement so soon with the risk of miscarriage still uncertain? Well, the folks at the palace made the decision share the news before it hit the media via whispery Reddit sub-threads since poor Kate is once again suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, the violent and rare version of morning sickness that incapacitated her during her first two pregnancies. In fact, the duchess was already too sick to make a scheduled engagement on Sept. 4.

"Morning sickness" is an innocuous and misleading term in many cases, including Kate's. Regular old morning sickness affects up to 80 percent of pregnant women — and would likely befit our favorite elegant AF duchess much more nicely than hyperemesis gravidarum, its far more sinister and unrelenting cousin.

One could spring back from morning sickness via a delicate dab of the mouth with a monogrammed handkerchief — and maybe a swish of mouthwash served in a tiny silver cup. But hyperemesis gravidarum, which only occurs in about 2 percent of pregnancies, is marked by vomiting so intense and unremitting that sufferers are often hospitalized for IV fluid and nutrition therapy — as Kate was while pregnant with Prince George. (It's possible she was also hospitalized for the same condition while pregnant with Princess Charlotte, but that remains unconfirmed.)

More: People Are Actually Shaming Kate Middleton for Her Third Pregnancy — WTF

Dr. Sherry Ross, a Santa Monica OB-GYN, and Dr. Jaime Knopman, a reproductive endocrinologist in New York City, spoke with Us Weekly about hyperemesis gravidarum and how — and why — it may be affecting Kate.

“Persistent nausea and vomiting can become so severe that moms lose weight and become malnourished and dehydrated... In these situations, hospitalization, intravenous hydration, and nutrition are needed," said Ross. “Eating and drinking is a nightmare... Women suffering from HG can feel depleted, exhausted and depressed.”

So if even the Duchess of Cambridge is susceptible to this debilitating condition, obviously so are we normals. So what are the risk factors? Is there anything a woman can do to avoid HG?

Knopman has little good news for us on that front, unfortunately. HG is pretty much out of a mom-to-be's control. And it can — but doesn't always — attack the same poor women during more than one pregnancy. “Usually women who get it once are more likely to get it again,” she said. “Risk factors include a personal or family history of HG... and a history of motion sickness or migraines.”

And if you're expecting twins, triplets or more, well, buckle up. Mothers-to-be who are preparing for multiples are at higher risk for HG, possibly due to higher levels of human chorionic gonadotropin, the pregnancy hormone wreaking havoc in the body like a drunken freshman frat boy desperately trying to steamroll his way off campus.

There is a little bit of good news about HG, according to Knopman. If HG is monitored and the mother receives good medical treatment, she might actually be at lower risk for miscarriage. “The thinking is that the higher hCG levels indicate a healthy and robust placenta," Knopman said. "The better the placenta, the better the chance that the pregnancy will progress.”

Well, if anybody has a robust placenta, it's probably Kate. (We imagine it's shaped like a limited-edition Prada purse.)

When will our dear duchess be out and about again in her signature nude hose and heels doing wonderful charity work and coaxing George and Charlotte in and out of private jets, you ask? Ross said HG can stick around until 20 weeks (*gulp*) of pregnancy or even longer. “It tends to improve in the last half of pregnancy but may persist until delivery," Ross said.

Kate's doctors are likely recommending the same things Ross recommends to her nonroyal HG patients: bananas, rice, applesauce and toast (the BRAT diet, which is neither Wisconsin bratwurst nor connotes any brattiness on Kate's part), along with ice-cold, fizzy beverages in teeny-tiny sips. No red-hot curries, super-salty foods or gigantic portions of protein. Vitamin B6, ginger and acupressure and acupuncture are also put to use — whether or not they actually work — by many HG sufferers seeking natural remedies.

Just close your eyes, sip your cool, carbonated ginger beverage, and think of England, Kate. We're rooting for you.
