Chelsea Clinton Takes on Bullies Who Mocked Barron Trump

PSA: Do not mess with Barron Trump, or you'll have Chelsea Clinton to answer to. (Chelsea is smart as a whip too, so if you go getting into a Twitter war with her, be prepared to lose mightily. You have been warned.)

What's got Clinton so riled up on Barron's behalf? Conservative rag The Daily Caller published a profoundly obnoxious article on the day of the solar eclipse with the headline "It's High Time Barron Trump Starts Dressing Like He's In the White House."

More: Chelsea Clinton to SNL Writer: Leave Barron Trump Alone

Seriously, Daily Caller? This is the best you can come up with on the day of the most documented celestial event in history? Please put us on your do-not-call list.

The op-ed featured a photo of 11-year-old Barron with his parents deplaning Air Force One over the weekend. Barron was sporting a red tee, tan shorts and basic loafers. Actually shockingly put-together for an 11-year-old on the weekend. Clinton — a mom as well as a brilliant political commentator and philanthropist — got wind of Daily Caller's trash-talking, and she was all, hell no.

More: Chelsea Clinton's Getting Mom-Shamed Now

As many of us remember, during Clinton's own childhood in the White House, she was the target of all sorts of monstrous commentary, notably from conservative bully Rush Limbaugh. The TV host once showed a picture of Socks, the Clintons' White House cat, on his show, and then appallingly asked the audience, “Did you know there’s a White House dog?” while showing a photo of 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton. This horrifying incident makes it clear that Clinton does indeed know — far too well — how traumatic it is to be a child who's bullied by adults in power.

Clinton has made it clear that she never wants another White House kid to endure the brutalization she did. She took to Twitter to call foul on Barron's behalf.

Chelsea Clinton tweet

"It's high time the media & everyone leave Barron Trump alone & let him have the private childhood he deserves," she tweeted on Monday night.

We admire Clinton and her amazing ability to rise above all of the crap she's had to deal with — during her childhood and during the 2016 election — and we're impressed as ever at her rejection of any cheap shots at the Trump family.

It's not the first time she's come to the current first son's defense, either; when the media and regular snarky folks on Twitter alike tore apart Barron's expression and behavior at his dad's inauguration, Clinton immediately jumped into the fray, dukes up, tweeting, "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does — to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids." Nailed. It.

So let's let kids — regardless of their parents' political stature — be kids, shall we? Apparently, Daily Caller entertainment reporter Ford Springer was unwilling to allow such frivolity. Springer's article didn't hold back in gushing over Barron's parents' weekend ensembles ("fine tailored suit," "elegant [and] jaw-dropping" dress), but Springer seemed personally offended by Barron, writing, "The youngest Trump doesn't have any responsibilities as the president's son, but the least he could do is dress the part when he steps out in public."

Perhaps Springer would like to offer his services as a stylist to the Trump family. I would love to cover that.

In the end, though, we were relieved to see social media users from the entire political spectrum speaking out against Springer's nasty op-ed. Many described the piece as "mean-spirited" and "shameful."

Meanwhile, Barron's mom, Melania Trump, thanked Clinton on Twitter for sticking up for her boy.

Melania Thanks Chelsea

Melania Thanks Chelsea

This was an interesting twist, as Trump's first lady platform has so far highlighted cyberbullying. During a campaign speech for her husband in Berwyn, PA, Melania said, "Our culture has gotten too mean and too rough, especially to children and teenagers...We have to find a better way to talk to each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other."

It seems like these two moms — Clinton and Trump — have found a way to do just that in spite of their massive political divide. If only Congress would take note.

Arby's Is Selling Massive Smoked Turkey Legs for a Limited Time

Winter may be here (in the land of Westeros, at least), but so is turkey.

In honor of the season finale of Game of Thrones, Arby's has launched smoked turkey legs, their own version of that classic Renaissance fair treat. The turkey legs are slightly sweet thanks to brown sugar and are slow-roasted for three hours until the skin becomes a delicious-looking golden-brown.

More: Why I will never call Arby's Vegetarian Support Hotline

I usually serve popcorn at my viewing parties, but Game of Thrones is totally worthy of a dozen or so turkey legs, don't you think? With each bite, you can imagine you're huddled by a fire, bracing yourself against winter's cold and the oncoming army of White Walkers. Fun!

Sadly, the turkey legs will only available in nine kingdoms across the U.S. Yeah, I said kingdoms — just go with it.

The lucky people of Fargo, North Dakota; Los Angeles, California; Seattle/Redmond, Washington; Norfolk, Virginia; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Phoenix, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; Omaha, Nebraska; and Atlanta, Georgia, can all enjoy the meaty treats for a limited time beginning this Sunday, Aug. 27.

I stayed home for the eclipse, but these epic turkey legs? These I might be willing to travel for. Because honestly, the only thing more terrifying than watching my favorite Game of Thrones characters possibly get killed off is being hungry while doing so.

M&M’s Launches New Flavor Just in Time for Halloween

While we are desperately trying to hold onto the final gasps of summer, it seems the candy aisle has steamrolled right past back-to-school and is readying for Halloween.

m&ms

m&ms

Instagram user JunkBanter, known for leaking breaking snack information, has revealed Cookies and "Screeem" M&M's can be found right now at Target. Aside from the seasonally appropriate name, it’s also inspired by a flavor many of us have long loved — cookies and cream.

More: My M&M's holiday pancakes

The flavor, which seems to be much like our imagined (er, fantasized about) M&M's and Oreo baby, is made up of a dark chocolate shell, white chocolate filling and a white-speckled coating.

The release of Cookies and Screeem M&M's wasn't the only news JunkBanter dropped. "Of course this is all spooky foreplay for the Triple Chocolate M&M's coming this winter, which have milk, dark, & white," JunkBanter wrote in their post.

We'll have to wait to see if this is true, but it sure does sound delectable.

For now, we have tasty cookie-themed candies, and that's good enough news for me. I think it's safe to assume these will be available in all major stores soon, but for the time being, get in your car and get to your local Target ASAP.

Facts About German Shepherds You Need to Know Before Adopting One

$
0
0

There's no doubt about it. German shepherds are gorgeous animals. Those big brown eyes, that gorgeous fur and muscular stature pretty much make them look like a real-life teddy bear, but in the most regal way possible. Throw in an amazing personality, and you've got what seems like a dream dog. (There's a reason a German shepherd took the 2017 Westminster Best in Show.)

But before you take the leap and adopt a German shepherd for your family, there are some things about them you need to know. Parenting one of these guys is a huge commitment that shouldn't be taken lightly.

If you're seriously considering adopting a German shepherd, you should know that there are dog people, and then there are German shepherd dog people. I would be lost without my German shepherd, and she knows it. And while you've probably already done a little research on your own, some advice can only come from an experienced GSD lover. So here are the 10 things you really need to know before adopting a German shepherd.

1. They are smart

The first thing any prospective German shepherd adopter needs to know is that German shepherds are smart. Very smart. Scary smart. These dogs will have your routine figured out before you do, and they are extremely sensitive to human moods. How smart are German shepherds? Not only do they know what “walk” means, but they can also spell it. Backward. Have a training plan in place before you bring your GSD home, and stick to it. Their high intelligence also comes with an eagerness to please their owners. They want to use their smarts in a constructive way, so have a strategy ready to make that possible. A bored German shepherd is no fun for all parties involved.

2. They can have high-energy needs

German shepherds are working dogs. There is a reason they are frequently used as military dogs, police dogs and service dogs. They love having a job to do, and your German shepherd is no exception. Be prepared for lots of long walks with your German shepherd and then some. Take them to a large park where they can run at full speed or consider signing them up for agility course classes. Trust me, if you don't give your GSD proper and adequate exercise, they'll start taking their built up energy on your favorite belongings.

More: Top 10 large dog breeds prove that bigger is better

3. They require mental stimulation

Long walks might tire out other breeds, but not the German shepherd. In addition to daily exercise, your new German shepherd will also require some mental stimulation. Obedience classes and dog sports can be especially helpful for rescue shepherds. Classes and training give you a bonding experience that builds trust and helps your dog figure out their place in your household, and it can help you diagnose any behavior problems early on.

4. They're cuddle bugs at home but aloof in public

Don’t be surprised if your rescue German shepherd is a total cuddle bug at home but aloof and distant in public. This is trademark GSD behavior and not something to worry about.

5. German shepherds are natural guard dogs

Without proper socialization, this can sometimes turn into territorial behavior and even aggression toward strangers and other dogs. Adopting an older German shepherd means you don’t know if their previous owner took the time to socialize them. This is a risk potential GSD adopters need to be aware of so they can take the necessary precautions when bringing guests and other dogs onto their property.

More: 10 Large Dog Breeds That Are Impossible Not to Love

6. They are excellent listeners

Nobody is a better listener than a German shepherd. Once you have a GSD in your life, you will never be lonely again. Those radar ears are always listening for your voice, and watching them tilt their head is sure to get a smile out of you on even the toughest day.

7. German shepherds are actually made of Velcro

It is a little-known fact about German shepherds that they are actually made of Velcro (OK, not literally). While not all shepherds are clingy, you can be sure your GSD will never be too far from you, whether you are going to the bathroom, taking a shower, gardening, watching TV, cooking or taking a nap. GSDs take loyalty very seriously.

More: These 15 Affectionate Dog Breeds Are the Cuddle Buddies of Your Dreams

8. They're not ideal for first-time owners

German shepherds can be a handful. They require consistent training and a level of experience that makes them a poor choice for first-time dog owners. If you do choose to adopt a GSD for your first dog, make sure you work with an experienced trainer so that your GSD does not develop any potentially dangerous or destructive habits.

9. Not all landlords love German shepherds

Sadly, German shepherds are not always welcomed by landlords. Adopting a GSD might not be a good idea if you are renting. If you are renting, make sure to ask your landlord or property manager if you can have a GSD in your rental before you bring one home.

10. You can’t have just one

Adopting a German shepherd might seem like a harmless decision. What you might not realize is that German shepherds are like potato chips. You can't have just one. You might find yourself owning German shepherds the rest of your life, which really means you’ve been adopted into the German shepherd family — not the other way around.

6 Actors (& Actresses) Who Could Play The Joker in the New Origin Movie

Following in footsteps as big as those of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger isn't going to be easy. But someone has to do it.

More: Wonder Woman Dominates the New Justice League Trailer

Who that someone will be remains a mystery. According to Deadline, Warner Bros and DC are in the early stages of another Batman movie, and this one will back up a few years to tell the origin story of one of the most iconic Gotham City villains: The Joker.

Most recently, Jared Leto played The Joker in Suicide Squad, but Deadline reports that a new actor will be cast for the latest iteration of the character — possibly someone younger since the new movie will tell The Joker's origin story.

We have a few opinions about who might be a good fit for the role.

More: Does Christian Bale Get Jealous? Yes, If it Involves Ben Affleck and Batman

1. Matthew McConaughey

McConaughey has delivered some absolutely showstopping performances in his more recent years — True Detective, anyone? Just imagine him in The Joker's white face paint and wide grin delivering a cackling monologue. You know he'd be great. The only question is whether he's young enough for the origin story role.

2. Leslie Odom Jr.

Leslie Odom Jr. Joker

Any Hamilton fan knows Odom has some serious acting chops. He played the sympathetic villain Aaron Burr so seamlessly, we'd love to see what he'd do as The Joker. Plus, with Odom on board, maybe Warner Bros and DC would consider turning this into a musical! No? Too much to hope for? Fine.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal Joker

Remember Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler? That was one of the creepiest characters ever to hit the big screen. Gyllenhaal would definitely do the role justice, plus it would give him a chance to pay tribute to his old friend Ledger.

4. Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston Joker

This one might be a little awkward because Hiddleston already played a villain in a Marvel movie. But his incredible performance as Loki is just more evidence that DC should give him a shot too.

5. Aubrey Plaza

Aubrey Plazza Joker

And what if we shook things up a little bit? Why does the big screen Joker have to look exactly the same in every iteration? Why can't we have a female Joker? We think we can, and there's no woman better-suited for the part than Plaza, who showcased her ability to nail dark and brooding with a blisteringly funny side as April on Parks and Rec.

Also worth mentioning — if a female was going to be the future of the Joker — Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter, Christina Ricci and Angela Bassett could be other killer options.

6. Peter Dinklage

Peter Dinklage Joker

While we're on the subject of breaking the traditional mold and rewriting a modern Joker, why not Dinklage? He has the star power from Game of Thrones to bring tons of fans to the franchise, and we know from his years on the HBO hit that his acting is top-notch.

Grey's Anatomy Has One Promise for Fans This Season

Grey's Anatomy, the show that exists for the sole purpose of making grown men ugly cry, has one promise this season: It's going to lighten things up a little bit.

More: Jesse Williams' Insta Is Making Us So Hungry for Grey's Anatomy

That may seem surprising coming from the show that kills off beloved characters with wild abandon (and in imaginatively grotesque ways), but the news comes straight from one of the stars. Giacomo Gianniotti, who plays surgical intern Dr. Andrew DeLuca, told TVLine that showrunner Shonda Rhimes has finally decided to take pity on fans and let them have a little bit of a breather in between tragedies during its upcoming 14th season.

"[Season 14 is] funnier, it’s sexier, it’s lighter," Gianniotti said, adding that where there's usually death and heartbreak, this season, there will be romance. "[A] lot of the men are single now, so we’re going to explore what that dynamic is like... We’re going to have fun this season."

More: Grey's Anatomy's Finale Had a Sad Goodbye — but These Deaths Were Way Worse

That's not exactly new — it's just that Grey's usually gives us a nice, balanced mix of steamy hookups and gut-wrenching character deaths. Still, we've never really moved on from the death of Dr. Derek Shepherd, so we're not exactly mad that Rhimes has plans to take the show in a lighter direction, at least for a season. And we know there's no way this is lasting more than a season. We expect she'll end Season 14 with yet another tragedy at Grey Sloan Memorial, setting us up for a 15th season filled with all the sobbing into our wine and ice cream, just like we're used to.

What Happened When I Decided to Get on Top

$

Being on top is the most dreaded position for many women. It’s exhausting. It’s a workout. Many people have even gone so far to say that if a woman gets on top, she “really is in love with you.” Honestly, there might be a bit of veracity in that statement, however hyperbolic it may seem. There are memes, articles and forums devoted to the defense of the utter loathing of being on top.

Electing to roll over on top of your partner is a calorie-burner — it’s definitely a balanced technique that isn’t easily mastered. It’s more than just bobbing up and down. It’s rhythm. It’s coordination. It’s something in the hips too.

I had always been with partners who wanted to have sex with me. Their macho-male personas got off on the idea that they were conducting the entire performance. And that’s what it was, a charade in some way. I may be coming off a bit severe, a little harsh or offensive, but these past lovers only saw me on my back or on all fours.

More: 8 Sex Positions to Do Anywhere but in Bed

This default routine wasn’t a type of experience that I was trying to chart any longer. I had traveled that all-too-familiar path of beginning in missionary, skirting around spooning and finishing in the beloved doggy-style. My predictions of what and when were always correct. That unremarkable ego of someone domming me for 15 minutes just wasn’t vibing well with my 20-something sexual benchmark. While the sexual custom wasn’t necessarily boring to me, the consistent masculine domination grew to be tiresome. I wanted to press the snooze button on my sex life.

I demanded something unprecedented. That’s when I decided to get on top.

Sexual power politics of who is on top or bottom is definitely an interesting aspect of our current culture, especially in heteronormative relationships. The dominant usually initiates sex and is in charge of the actual act — determining positions, who takes or receives and when it all ends. Sexual power dynamics are highly engrained in our society as the woman being passive and the male being active; therefore, creating a textbook of issues that I won’t even begin to scratch the surface of. However, we can begin by managing an unbalanced scenario and finding an equilibrium by letting ourselves become in charge of the thrusting. You are having sex with them and not vice versa. You are using them for sexual pleasure. You get to call the shots.

More: How couples turned around their sexless marriages

Even the terminology, “woman” or “girl” on top is so contrived and convoluted. It sets the precedent that it’s so normal for a man to be on top, there isn’t even a position called “man on top.”

Once I hopped on, I noticed a shift in my overall confidence immediately. I initiated sex more — being in control was something that I had quite literally never experienced in a sexual setting. Exerting dominance over my male partner is invigorating. Through empowerment and control, I’ve found that my orgasms are up to me, and I like it that way. I’m not finished until I say we are finished. My orgasm is also more attainable when I’m in a position of power. While I can’t orgasm as easily while I’m on top, it’s a great starter position for me to end up in good ole missionary, which always does the trick for me.

More: 7 Car Sex Positions That Go Way Beyond Missionary

Of course, being dominated still remains incredibly sexy to me. I still enjoy the switch in power play. But possessing the choice to alternate dominant roles has created a parallel of sexual balance. I don’t plan on hopping off anytime soon.

Why Having Fewer Friends in High School Has Major Benefits

Like many people, I did not flourish in high school. But it turns out, not being surrounded by legions of adoring classmates isn’t necessarily a bad thing. A new study found that having a few close friendships in high school is better for your mental and emotional health as an adult than running with the cool crowd.

"High school students with higher-quality best friendships tended to improve in several aspects of mental health over time, while teens who were popular among their peers during high school may be more prone to social anxiety later in life," Rachel K. Narr, a Ph.D. candidate in clinical psychology at the University of Virginia who led the study, said in a news release.

More: The Biggest Mental Health Reveals From Britney Spears' New Interview

The research, published in the journal Child Development, tracked a group of 169 racially, ethnically and socioeconomically diverse adolescents across a 10-year period, from the ages of 15 to 25, each year checking in on their friendships and mental health. The study was particularly concerned with what they termed “high-quality friendships,” which were defined as close friendships with a degree of attachment and support that also involve exchanging intimate information.

Turns out, teens who were more focused on a few close friendships at age 15 had lower social anxiety, an increased sense of self-worth and fewer symptoms of depression by the time they turned 25 than their peers who did not report the same high-quality friendships. Along the same lines, the teens who were popular in high school had higher levels of social anxiety as young adults.

So why is this the case? The researchers think that this may be because having positive experiences with friends during adolescence might help you feel better about yourself as you head into adulthood. These close high school friendships also make us feel more supported, which may encourage us to seek out similar supportive people as we mature.

More: Talking About Mental Health Is Good — Investing in Mental Health Is Better

“Being well-liked by a large group of people cannot take the place of forging deep, supportive friendships,” Joseph Allen, a Hugh P. Kelly professor of psychology at the University of Virginia and co-author of the study, explained in a news release. “And these experiences stay with us, over and above what happens later.”

I can confirm this research with my own small empirical study (sample size = 1). I was not necessarily what you would categorize as “popular” in high school, but I did have friends — one close friend in particular who made me feel better about everything. Fast-forward an undisclosed number of years since we graduated, and she’s an even more important part of my life and supporter of my mental health than before. Sharing intimate details — especially about our families, mental health and writing — was an important component of our relationship in high school and still features prominently today, and I know I’m better off because of her.

So thanks, high-quality friends and science! And sorry, popular kids — you had your time to shine.

How Working Parents Can Finally "Have It All"

$

Disclaimer: The below is a piece of humor writing. Please, for goodness' sake, keep your children away from wolves at all times.

Are you a working parent who’s concerned that you’ve been passed over for a promotion because you need to limit your working hours to merely eight, nine or 10 hours a day? Have you been on the receiving end of remarks about being a “clock-watcher” because you keep to some semblance of a schedule? Perhaps you’ve heard dismissive comments from colleagues about the “preferential treatment” you receive when you need to take time out of the workday to deal with a sick child or attend one of your kid's events (even though you’re using your allotted time off and following all proper procedures in order to do so). Well, fret no more! You truly can “have it all” by using one or more of these solutions to balancing the needs of work and family.

More: 17 Throwback Toys to Inspire Nostalgia

Suggestion 1: Shift all the responsibilities in one or more areas of your life to someone who gets paid to report to you.

Maybe you’ve noticed that some people seem to be able to work long hours and have a family. What’s their secret? Help. Paid help. They probably have a nanny or an au pair who can work many hours, so they can be at the office until 8 p.m. every night. There too they have staff who report to them. What? You don’t have a posse of direct reports at work and a paid helper at home? Read on for more suggestions.

Suggestion 2: Have a family member who assists you.

So you don’t have a paid caregiver, housekeeper, personal assistant, intern or other help. The next option to consider is a family member who conveniently has more free time than they know what to do with. Maybe your parents can watch your kids every single day during the week. Of course, this assumes your parents don’t have to do anything so baseless as work for a living; surely they’re retired by now and live nearby and also have no other obligations. Surely.

If you don’t have family nearby or if that family is incapable — mentally, physically or spiritually — of looking after your kids, read on for another idea.

More: Dear Kid Who Plays at My House: Please Stop Ignoring Me

Suggestion 3: Have a spouse who can assume all child care responsibilities.

Perhaps — just perhaps — your spouse or partner can watch your children full time? No? Well, that's a downer. If you’re a single parent or if your family needs two incomes in order to live, keep on reading for more ideas.

Suggestion 4: One word: wolves.

“Raised by wolves” has a certain connotation, but wolves are pretty universally misunderstood. You can absolutely outsource the raising of your children to wolves. Wolves are actually highly social animals and are very family-focused. Bonus: Your children will become excellent hunters and develop great howling skills. If you don’t live in area with a high wolf population (and let’s face it, the No. 1 threat to wolves is the destruction of their native habitat), you still have one more option.

More: Weird Things You Never Talked About Before Having Kids

Suggestion 5: Clone yourself.

Human cloning once seemed like a far-off fantasy, purely in the realm of science fiction — but cloning has come a long way. You do have to be willing to make an upfront investment (which will more than pay for itself over time) as well as be comfortable operating in a black market since most “reputable” scientists distance themselves from human cloning. There are, however, probably some noble souls who will clone you. Maybe try looking on the “dark web” for starters? Ask around; you may be surprised how many parents you know manage to “do it all” simply because they’ve cloned themselves. Who knew it would be so easy?

Mandy Moore just dropped the first sneak peek of the season premiere on Facebook and Instagram, and it's already tugging at the heartstrings. In the Season 1 finale, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) dropped the bombshell on his wife, Beth, that he wanted to adopt a child. In the new clip, he reveals that Beth is struggling with the idea and turns to his adoptive mother, played by Moore, for advice.

At first, Moore says that she and her late husband knew from the moment they saw Randall that he belonged in their family. It's a sweet story, and it almost looks like Randall is going to buy it, but he sees through her. He pushes Moore for answers, and she tells the real story. She was reluctant, and it was Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) who encouraged her to make the life-changing decision to bring Randall home after one of their triplets died in childbirth. She goes on to tell him about how that decision she was pushed into became so important to her life, and I'm not crying, you're crying.

In an interview with Glamour, Lively explained that what matters most to her and her husband is their family, which is why she and Reynolds don’t work on their movies at the same time. “I admire people who find that what fulfills them is their art or their work, but what fulfills both me and my husband is our family,” she said. “Knowing that, everything else comes second.”

2. That time she claimed she's so misunderstood

She’s really the whole package, but not everyone quite gets Blake Lively. Well, that's according to Blake Lively, of course. In an interview with Vogue for their "73 Questions" series, Lively claimed her dry sense of humor often baffles people because it's hard to tell when she's serious or joking. Thank God for her friends — they often come to the rescue and give strangers the cue when it's time to laugh. We'd take that challenge. Just saying.

3. That time she schooled a reporter who asked her a sexist question

While being honored for her efforts with the Child Rescue Coalition — an organization that works to put an end to the production of child pornography — a reporter on the red carpet asked Lively a question about what she was wearing, and given the event, that didn't sit too well. Lively quipped back, “Are we really doing this? Would you ask a man that?”

And that's completely fair. This is a double standard famous women like Amy Poehler, Aisha Tyler, Kristen Bell and more have been fighting against for years (has no one learned anything from the #AskHerMore movement?!). Even Scarlett Johansson, Nicki Minaj and Anne Hathaway have called out reporters who asked them (or other women) sexist, insulting questions that didn't pertain to the topic or event at hand.

We're all for a woman who, sure, likes to get dolled up once in awhile but has more important topics she'd like to discuss because, uh... women have brains too.

4. All those times she's stood up for human rights

It’s always inspiring to see celebrities use their ultra-magnified voices to bring attention to the issues plaguing our society. Aside from working with the Child Rescue Coalition, Lively is very outspoken on social media about racism, homophobia and transphobia.

Yes, I'm crying now, and I don't care if I admit it.

Lively and Reynolds' posed for Humans of New York at the Met Gala last spring and Reynolds opened up about their relationship, saying Lively helps him through difficult times all while making him a better person. “She always responds with empathy." Well of course she does — she's Blake-freaking-Lively.

Princess Diana's Openness About Bulimia Still Helps Those With Eating Disorders

For the first time, Prince William is opening up about the powerful message his mother — the late Princess Diana — sent by speaking out about her struggle with an eating disorder.

Appearing in a new documentary, Wasting Away: The Truth About Anorexia, William discusses his mother’s bulimia, which first became public in the 1992 book Diana: Her True Story by Andrew Morton, which also detailed her suicide attempts. Although it was not widely known at the time, Diana provided interviews for the book herself. She then discussed it herself in a 1995 interview on the BBC show Panorama.

William talked about his mother’s eating disorder with the documentary’s director — British news anchor Mark Austin, whose daughter Maddy had anorexia — stressing the importance of discussion about mental health issues as a way of overcoming them, People reported.

“We need to normalize the conversation about mental health,” William said in the documentary. He also thanked Austin and Maddy for spreading awareness about an issue that is frequently hidden. “The fact that you are speaking out is incredibly brave.”

Maddy then told William that his mother’s transparency about her struggle with bulimia helped in her own recovery from anorexia. He responded by telling her, “We need to be matter-of-fact about it and not hide it in the dark where it festers,” adding that he was “absolutely” proud of his mother for being open about her eating disorders — especially at a time when few people (let alone royals) did that.

“These are illnesses,” William said in the film. “Mental health needs to be taken as seriously as physical health.”

Here's Your First Look at the Game of Thrones Season 7 Finale

The time is nearly upon us: the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale looms, and there's nothing but war on the minds of our favorite citizens of Westeros. In the newly released GoT Season 7 finale photos, we can see that the tension is rising between the Lannisters and the newly formed opposition, led by Daenerys Targaryen. While we know that the impending war against the White Walkers is postponed for the minute, what we don't know is how things will turn out as the humans attempt to either settle their differences or engage in all-out war for the Iron Throne.

It looks like once again, Bronn and Jaime have to watch as an army rolls in on their turf. This time around, the massive army looks like it could compete somewhat with the Lannisters' forces — if push comes to shove. Daenerys has spent years gathering men together, so if anything, we can tell that if and when a war breaks out, the fight will be pretty evenly matched.

Yes, that's right, guys. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Cersei and Jaime sit together in a very odd way, perhaps because their relationship is a loaded one. As Hand of the Queen, it's right that Jaime would be at Cersei's side, but he's also sitting by her too, making it look as if he's king or her equal. This is only made creepier by the fact that it's her brother and it's clearly signaling to viewers that Cersei doesn't care about how her actions are perceived (like putting her brother, who is also her lover, in a power position); she just wants to stay on top by any means necessary.

GoT S7 Finale Cersei Jaime

It looks like sides are clearly being taken too, as Jon Snow and Tyrion clearly team up and appear to be looking at Cersei and Jaime. There's no going back now; are they on the winning side?

GoT S7 Finale Jon Snow Tyrion

What's interesting to note is that Daenerys is notably absent from these photos. It looks like Jon Snow and Tyrion may have been sent on her behalf, but if so, why wouldn't she choose to meet the woman she is battling for the Iron Throne? After the power trip she's been on in Season 7, to see that Daenerys might not show up for arguably the most important moment in her journey to reclaim the Iron Throne is disheartening. Something feels off here.

And finally, we have two very telling stills of GoT heroines who are living with their newfound power. Cersei looks calm and also content, implying that this photo is from a scene that happens before her meeting with Jon Snow and Tyrion. She's way too comfortable here and it looks like she thinks she has the upper hand in some way.

Additionally, Sansa looks deeply tortured. It would seem that the current state of her relationship with Arya is weighing on her. Could she also now be reconsidering her relationship with Littlefinger?

There's a lot of drama in these photos, so you can only imagine how intense things are going to be for the epic 90-minute Season 7 finale. Are you ready?

How Google Is Going a Step Further for People Who Search for 'Depression'

Even though we’re getting slightly better about talking about mental health, taking the first initial steps toward getting help for depression can be very intimidating. So it makes sense that from the privacy of our own homes or cellphones, we search for “depression” in the hopes of finding some answers.

More: Talking About Depression Is Good — Investing in Mental Health Is Better

Google has noticed this, and soon, users who search for “depression” will be prompted to take a questionnaire assessing whether they may be impacted by the mental illness. The tech giant has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the organization’s CEO Mary Giliberti wrote a blog post on the new feature, noting that the aim of the new feature will be to “help provide more direct access to tools and information to people who may be suffering” from depression.

Now, when you search for “depression” or “clinical depression,” a Knowledge Panel will pop up on the screen, providing immediate, digestible general information on the symptoms and treatment options. Starting today, a clinically validated screening assessment will also be available on the same panel to help determine if you should seek an in-person mental health evaluation.

MoreI May Never Get Off Depression Medication, & That's OK

“Statistics show that those who have symptoms of depression experience an average of a six- to eight-year delay in getting treatment after the onset of symptoms,” Giliberti wrote in the blog post. “We believe that awareness of depression can help empower and educate you, enabling quicker access to treatment."

This OITNB Star Just Welcomed Her First Child

Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon seems to have conquered childbirth and then some. She and fiancé Ben Foster just welcomed their first child, a baby girl, according to a source for Us Weekly.

And what did the proud parents do next? Apparently, they enjoyed a night out. Us Weekly reported that an eyewitness spotted the pair on Aug. 22 at Out East in New York City, kicking back with some wine and cocktails. (Laura, we're right there with you, but maybe get your mommy-shaming protective gear out just in case. Not even the East Village is immune to the shamers.)

Us Weekly originally broke the story in January that Prepon was pregnant — after she showed off her baby bump at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

More: Laura Prepon Is Pregnant, Tailed by Calorie Counters at Sundance

And during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan in June, Prepon revealed the baby's sex.

“It’s kind of weird, ‘cause it sneaks up on you where you’re like, ‘I can’t believe it’s been eight months already. But then you’re like, ‘Oh my God, she needs to like come out already,” Prepon told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.

And the pregnancy cravings were fierce according to Prepon. “[My dad] was a doctor, and when he would have a break, we would go to this Jewish deli. We would get this pastrami on rye sandwich with a Dr. Brown’s black cherry soda. When I was a kid, that’s what we would get with my dad. With, like, mustard and sauerkraut. What’s so funny is I have not eaten that stuff probably since I was a kid with my dad. So when I got pregnant, all of a sudden I was like, ‘I need a pastrami on rye. I need a Dr. Brown’s black cherry soda. I need mustard and sauerkraut.’ These crazy Jewish deli cravings hit me so hard. Isn’t that funny?”

Um, no, not really, because now we're completely craving cherry soda with a pastrami on rye with major sauerkraut.

Prepon is not one who likes being the public eye, but she opened up about her pregnancy experience to Us Weekly in July, calling it "amazing."

“I’m creating life and it’s so incredible. I’m so ecstatic for this experience, but you go through so many changes. We’ve been in the Pacific North West keeping it low-key. I’m a very private person,” she said.

Prepon did share a rare pregnancy pic on Instagram on June 10, giving a shoutout, "Thanks @enviedefraise for my cute dress! Quickly becoming my fave maternity line."

No word yet on the baby's name or details of the birth, but from what we — and apparently quite a few residents of NYC's East Village — can see, mom seems to be doing great.

Also no word yet on when we will stop craving a pastrami sandwich on rye bread with mustard and sauerkraut.

The Starbucks Mermaid Frappuccino Is the Perfect Excuse to Go to Mexico

If you thought the colorful onslaught of magical, rainbow-inspired Frappuccinos was coming to an end, think again.

We heard about a secret-menu Mermaid Frappuccino back in April, the invention of a barista in Bay City, Michigan, but the drink sold out of their location, and much like the magical creature it was named for, hadn't been spotted again.

But now, there is an official Mermaid Frappuccino that's being sold by Starbucks in Mexico, and it looks totally amazing.

This rare treat is made with a Green Melon Crème Frappuccino base (um, can we get that in the USA, please?), blue vanilla whipped cream, blue and pink sugar and shimmering violet pearls.

It actually sounds really delicious, no? What I like is that most of the embellishment is in the topping — there aren't a bunch of cloying syrups in there that could make the drink too sweet or muddy the melon flavor too much, which is a problem I've noticed with some of the more elaborate Starbucks creations. A lot of the drinks end up just tasting like sugar with a flavor profile you can't really pinpoint.

The Mermaid Frappuccino is available at Starbucks in Mexico starting today. Has there ever been a better excuse to take one last summer vacation?

This Lawsuit Could Be Really Bad for John Oliver & HBO

John Oliver and HBO are facing a lawsuit that could be really bad news for them.

More: John Oliver Dumbs Down Trump Fiasco With "Stupid Watergate" Explanation

Robert Murray, head of a coal-based energy company in West Virginia, was the subject of an episode of Oliver's show, Last Week Tonight, where Oliver made the case that Murray's company is at fault for a mine collapse that killed nine people, which is what federal officials ruled after the incident in 2007. Murray claimed an earthquake caused the collapse, and now he's suing Oliver and HBO — as well as The New York Times — for defamation.

More: John Oliver Once Again Breaks the Internet in His Quest for Net Neutrality

According to several legal experts, including the ACLU, Murray's case is frivolous and should be thrown out. But Mashable reports that Murray recently won a couple of court victories that could help his case advance. After HBO successfully got the case moved to federal court, a judge ruled in Murray's favor that it should instead go forward in West Virginia, giving Murray a home-field advantage that could work in his favor. The same judge chose not to dismiss Murray's case against The New York Times.

Even if the case doesn't advance very far, Murray has a lot of money to put into it, and his goal could be simply to fight until Oliver and HBO are crippled financially, Mashable argues. That's what happened to media site Gawker when it was sued by Hulk Hogan — billionaire Peter Thiel financed that lawsuit and Gawker was bankrupted and forced to shut down before the case could be dismissed.

West Virginia is also one of a few states that is lacking laws that help defendants of frivolous lawsuits avoid financial ruin from drawn-out court battles.

Luckily, HBO is behind Oliver in this fight, with a strong legal team and plenty of cash. Hopefully, it's enough to put up a fight against Murray and his grudge.

Pregnant Bachelor in Paradise Star Just Got an Ultrasound... on Live TV

Those crazy kids from Bachelor in Paradise, Carly Waddell and Evan Bass, are at it again. They met, courted and snarked hilariously about all the other Paradise hookups on TV; then they fell in nerd love, got engaged and got married on TV — all with the ever-present encouragement of Bachelor franchise host and gazillionaire Chris Harrison. Then Waddell got knocked up (presumably off camera), so why shouldn't the ultrasound happen on TV too? Live TV, no less.

Carly ultrasound

Carly ultrasound

Yes, the quirky parents-to-be were very excited to experience Waddell's ultrasound in front of a live studio audience on Tuesday, Aug. 22. (The live studio audience did not receive complimentary medical services themselves, alas.)

“A little baby Bass!” Waddell exclaimed during the procedure.

More: Carly Waddell & Evan Bass of Bachelor in Paradise Are Expecting a Baby

Bass was thrilled and not even a bit weirded out by the public ultrasound event. “I’m going to be great with whatever it is," he said, admitting that he'll be "nervous if it’s a girl, because I don’t know what to do with a girl.”

Waddell, a Texas native and former cruise ship singer who is now stepmom to Bass's three sons, added, "If it’s a girl, it will just be such an adventure for all of us to try to figure out how to even deal with that.” (Waddell was formerly ditched by the oddly soulless Chris Soules, an Iowa farmer with the laugh of 10,000 hyenas.)

She continued, “I’m still so in awe that this happened. I mean, I froze my eggs 'cause I didn’t think this was going to be an easy task... The fact that it’s in there, and it’s in there moving, is crazy.”

The affable Bass — known affectionately by BIP alumni and pals as "the penis guy" for his work assisting sufferers of erectile dysfunction — spoke to Us Weekly about the pregnancy.

“We knew we wanted to have kids quick, but she had been told by numerous doctors that she potentially couldn’t have kids or it would be hard for her to have kids. She just really thought that it wasn’t possible for her and that it was just going to take awhile,” he said of Waddell.

Bass added that they found out about their pregnancy very soon after their recent (again, live-TV) wedding in Mexico.

“We freaked out. It was extra special to find out down the street from where we got married, engaged, everything,” said Bass.

Bass — originally rejected by Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher — told Us that his sons are thrilled to be getting a half-sibling. “They were so excited. They lost their minds... If it’s a girl, we’re going to protect her together. She’s not going to prom without them kind of thing.” That's cute and all, but your daughter may well end up tougher than all of you, Evan. After all, she's probably going to be born on live TV... right?!

And it sounds like that semi-scripted Bachelor magic is at work, because over the weekend, sure enough, the couple confirmed they're expecting — ta dah! — a baby girl.

So try not to be too unsettled by the live-TV sonogram, folks; at least it wasn't a transvaginal ultrasound. Besides, at this point, any sense of privacy would just be so off-brand for these two.

Amy Schumer Holds Netflix Accountable With Equal Pay Negotiations

Update August 24, 2017, 10:10 a.m. PT: Amy Schumer has responded to Variety's report that she demanded equal pay for her stand-up special on her Instagram. It is Schumer's position that she would never make a demand for identical pay in this particular instance because the men she was being compared to in the story, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle, are seasoned stand-up comics who have earned the right to what they were paid.

"Hot dog dog. Thanks for chiming in on what you feel I deserve to be paid. I believe women deserve equal pay. However I don't believe I deserve equal pay to Chris and Dave. They are legends and 2 of the greatest comics of all time," she wrote on a photo of her holding a fake, stuffed animal-style hot dog.

Amy Schumer Equal Pay Instagram

Amy Schumer Equal Pay Instagram

She continued, " I would like to say that I have been selling out arenas these last couple years. Something a female comic has never done. That's a big deal to me, especially because I know I do my best every night on stage for the audience and they have a good time. I didn't ask for the same as my friends. I did ask for more than the initial offer. I will continue to work my ass off and be the best performer I can be. The reports of me "demanding" or "insisting" on equal pay to them aren't a true [sic]."

Schumer's definitive defense of her colleagues, as well as her stance on this particular story, should put any notion of her pay and what she is owed for her Netflix special to bed.

Original story:

Netflix is progressive in so many ways. They have content like Orange Is the New Black that pushes the diversity conversation. They have controversial series like To the Bone, which spurs debate on eating disorders. They even bring female characters to the table in shows like Girl Boss in ways that are new and edgy.

More: Amy Schumer Feels Really Good About Herself Because She Tips Well

Unfortunately, there's one area where the network missed the mark: equal pay.

Thanks to Variety, we learned the startling and unsettling news that Schumer was paid about half what her male counterparts, like Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock, made for her 2016 comedy special, The Leather Special.

Luckily, it seems like both parties were game to fix the problem, because the outlet reports that Schumer was able to successfully renegotiate her rate from $11 million to a more competitive rate. Chappelle and Rock were both paid $20 million for their specials.

Though the exact amount of Schumer's increased payout is unknown, Variety reports, "she received significantly more compensation after she raised the question of fairness."

More: Amy Schumer's Dad Meeting Goldie Hawn Is Almost Too Cute to Watch — Almost

Schumer has yet to comment on the renegotiations and neither has Netflix.

The entirety of the Variety article is well worth the read because it is hardly just Schumer who is dealing with the equal pay issue. The disparity in Hollywood is staggering. It isn't just Netflix who is missing the mark on this topic. Multiple production companies, studios and networks aren't paying their female and minority actors what they deserve.

But what the Schumer example proves is that even women at the top are still making significantly less than men. There isn't a point in Hollywood where pay suddenly equals out. And that's terrifying.

In the meantime, good for Netflix for fixing this issue. Let's hope we see more companies following suit in the coming years.
