New Drug Could Give You a Real Tan & Prevent Cancer

Good news for those who like the look of sun-kissed skin but aren’t big fans of cancer: You may now be able to get your tan from a new drug.

Scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital have developed a cream that makes your skin react like you’ve been lounging for hours in the afternoon sun, producing the brown pigmentation, but without any actual exposure to damaging UV radiation.

More: Should You Pee on a Jellyfish Sting?

Researchers say their evidence suggests that the drug will even work on redheads and those with fair skin, whose skin tends to burn in the sun. So far, this has worked on tests done on skin samples and mice.

Unlike the many self-tanning lotions currently lining the shelves of your local drugstore, this cream doesn’t simply “paint” the skin — it actually kick-starts the process of making melanin, making skin appear darker.

MoreJust Because Miranda Kerr Gets Leech Facials, It Doesn't Mean You Should Too

"Under the microscope it's the real melanin, it really is activating the production of pigment in a UV-independent fashion,” Dr. David Fisher, one of the researchers, told the BBC.

It’s not just cosmetic — the melanin in your skin helps protect it from cancer by blocking harmful UV rays, which Fisher said is the main aim of this cream.

"Dark pigment is associated with a lower risk of all forms of skin cancer — that would be really huge," he added.

When the cream hits the market, the scientists behind the product want to combine it with sunblock to provide maximum protection from the sun.

Additionally, given the fact that sun damage is a leading cause of skin aging, this cream could be a game-changer for those who are only exposed to everyday UV rays, even if they don’t spend hours soaking in the sun each summer.

"Medically it is very difficult to focus on, but if it is tremendously safe then it could keep skin healthier for longer," Fisher said.

Rainbows abound in June — along with inspiring Pride posts all over the internet that restore our faith in humanity.

Some of the most heartwarming we've seen? Amazingly supportive parents and their LGBTQ children celebrating Pride together. The. Best.

More: My daughter is a lesbian — and she has every right to go to church

Disclaimer: My older daughter is gay. This was her bemused response when I told her I was writing about proud Pride parents:

"It's great that they're supportive, but aren't they just being, well, good parents? I mean, why are we celebrating parents being supportive?"

Huh. Fair point.

Sadly, this kind of open, enthusiastic Pride support wasn't always easy to spot in the world — and that gives us hope for the future. Plus, the photographs we're seeing on social media give us all the feels and make us pretty much want to hug all the people. So for that reason, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite images and posts from Prideful parents this month.

Corinne Olympios Releases Statement About Alleged BIP Assault: ‘I Am a Victim’

Updated June 14, 12:30 p.m. PT: Corinne Olympios has released a statement about the halting of production on her season of Bachelor in Paradise, and in it, she confirmed our worst fears: What happened on set was something terrible and damaging.

"I am a victim and have spent the last week trying to make sense of what happened on June 4. Although I have little memory of that night, something bad obviously took place, which I understand is why production on the show has now been suspended and a producer on the show has filed a complaint against the production," Olympios' statement read.

She continued, "As a woman, this is my worst nightmare and it has now become my reality. As I pursue the details and facts surrounding that night and the immediate days after, I have retained a group of professionals to ensure that what happened on June 4 comes to light and I can continue my life, including hiring an attorney to obtain justice and seeking therapy to begin dealing with the physical and emotional trauma stemming from that evening."

If Olympios doesn't even remember the night in question, it basically confirms early rumors that the sexual encounter she had was not consensual. A woman who is blacked out drunk cannot consent, period.

Olympios' lawyer is top Hollywood lawyer Marty Singer, a ferocious litigator who has represented countless stars through scandal.

DeMario Jackson, the other BIP star implicated in the event on set, has already maintained his innocence, and claimed that the footage shot by the producers who stood by and watched Olympios' alleged assault take place will clear his name.

The whole situation is ugly and heartbreaking, and its repercussions are sure to ripple through Bachelor Nation for some time. In the meantime, our hearts are with Olympios, who is in the midst of an experience no woman should have to endure.

Updated June 14, 8:15 a.m. PT: DeMario Jackson has broken his silence — except not really.

For the first time since Bachelor in Paradise production was shut down over allegations of sexual misconduct, Jackson was spotted by paparazzi on his way out of a Starbucks in Los Angeles and asked about the constantly developing rumors surrounding the show.

His reply? "No comment," he told reporters. He did add, "I have nothing to say. You know, Corinne's an awesome girl and that's all I have to say. Love you all, thank you for the support."

A source close to Jackson told Entertainment Tonight that footage will tell a different story than the headlines have.

"He's definitely said a few times that based on his conversations with other cast mates who were there that they never felt like it was to the level it's being portrayed," the insider said. "DeMario feels the footage [from the show] will back up his side."

Updated June 13, 7:50 a.m. PT: The King of Bachelor Nation himself, Chris Harrison, has finally spoken out about the rumors surrounding Bachelor in Paradise, and he's honestly putting our minds a little more at ease, considering how disturbing some of those rumors have been.

"By now, no doubt, you have heard that we have suspended production on this season’s Bachelor in Paradise," Harrison's statement began. "I can confirm to you that this is sadly the case. Out of respect to all involved, there’s only so much I can and will say at this time. Normally with a situation like this I would not say anything until the incident is fully resolved, but with all the rumors and misinformation being put out there, I don’t find that to be possible anymore."

Harrison continued, "Let me start by saying the safety and care of the cast and crew of our show is of the utmost importance to us. It is with this thought in mind that we made the decision to suspend filming. An investigation into the situation was started immediately. Warner Bros. is handling the details of that investigation. They’re moving quickly to gather all the facts, and once that’s done, a clear, concise decision can be made about where we go from here."

Harrison also briefly addressed press reports about the incident, specifically saying at least some of what's in the headlines is misinformation. "There are a lot of competing details in the various press accounts of the incident," he said. "And there’s a lot of misinformation out there too. We urge everyone to be patient until the investigation is complete."

He concluded, "I know in this day and age we want — and even expect — immediate answers, but in this case, it’s just not possible. So again, I urge you to please be patient and respect the privacy of the parties involved. I will keep you as informed and up to date as I possibly can. We’re sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment this may have caused the cast, the crew and our loyal fans. It is my sincere hope that we can come to a quick resolution on this and get back to work very soon."

Now we just hope that Harrison isn't sugarcoating this situation.

Updated June 12, 10:00 a.m. PT: New reports are coming out about Bachelor in Paradise and rumors that the season has been canceled following "sexual misconduct" on the set.

People magazine reports that two separate sources, including an anonymous contestant from Season 4, have said producers filmed DeMario Jackson in a sexual encounter with Corinne Olympios while she was allegedly too drunk to consent. "The show absolutely values the primacy of consent, and this instance it appears as though conduct allegedly occurred without the proper consent having been given," a production source told the site.

A cast member from the show claimed that two other contestants saw the incident happen and said that cast members are upset producers didn't stop filming or intervene. "People are pissed, and not just at DeMario. We’re pissed that this whole thing happened," the unnamed contestant told People. "They could have seen that she was drinking too much and that he was taking advantage. They could have stopped this before it got this far. But they decided to let it go, and let it happen, and see what happened? So, I’m angry at the show, and everyone else is too."

Multiple sources have said that Warner Bros. is investigating the alleged incident. People reached out to Mexican police, who were not aware of any incident on set.

Meanwhile, some former BIP cast members have weighed in, including Robby Hayes and Chad Johnson. In retrospect, their comments about the incident are anything but comforting.

Robby Hayes reaction to BiP production shutdown

Robby Hayes reaction to BiP production shutdown

"What happens in paradise, stays in paradise. #NoComment #BIP4," Hayes wrote, showing a shocking disregard for the sensitive and traumatic nature of the sexual assault investigation that could be happening.

Johnson's reactions, however, appear to be much worse. On his Twitter, he made a couple of callous jokes and alluded to his own misconduct that got him removed from Season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise.

"I'm excited for The Bachelor in Pornadise," he wrote, adding, "TV Shows I've been on - 4... TV Shows I've messed up so bad that they had to stop filming - 0"

Our thoughts are with Olympios, and here's hoping the rest of Bachelor Nation can keep their mouths shut unless they have support to offer her.

Updated June 12, 2017, 5:20 a.m. PT: Following the unexpected reports of misconduct on the set of Bachelor in Paradise, which resulted in a full shutdown of production, new reports on the exact cause of the misconduct are now being revealed.

Entertainment Tonight has confirmed that Olympios and Jackson's alleged sexual misconduct on the BIP set led to a total shut down on filming. According to an ET source's recollection of the events leading to the shutdown, things were going as expected in the first days of filming. Arrivals went smoothly, filming went smoothly and so forth. The cast was, as the source says, "drinking all day, having a good time… the guys and girls were bopping around, talking to everyone, trying to make connections.'"

Then, during what sounds like a filmed mixer or meet-and-greet between the cast, the alleged incident occurred. The source revealed to ET that Jackson was in the pool when he was approached by Olympios. The two reportedly began chatting, then Olympios may have "hop[ped] onto [Jackson's] lap" at which time things got very sexy. Maybe a little too sexy.

Jackson and Olympios' actions reportedly made a BIP producer feel uncomfortable to the point that filming was halted and then the decision was made for filming to be postponed altogether. There is still no word at this time on whether Jackson or Olympios will face any serious repercussions for their actions or if filming will resume at a later date. ET's report indicates that Jackson reached out to Olympios via social media and the two may have reconciled about the incident. No other cast members are on record at this time about the incident.

Warner Bros. did release a statement about the BIP incident, which Us Weekly reports says, “We have become aware of allegations of misconduct on the set of Bachelor in Paradise in Mexico. We have suspended production and we are conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations. Once the investigation is complete, we will take appropriate responsive action."

[A previous portion of this update to the story has been edited for sensitivity. It was written before the more specific details of the allegations of misconduct were learned and upon further reflection, it was insensitive given the severity of the allegations.]

Original story:

A concerning start to the week this Sunday as Bachelor in Paradise — spinoff of the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises, where the “losers” from previous season hook up and cause drama on an island somewhere — has halted shooting of Season 4 due to “allegations of misconduct on the set,” according to a statement issued by Warner Bros. The show has a release date of Aug. 8, but all dates are subject to change with this stoppage.

“We have suspended production,” the Warner Bros. statement continued. “We are conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations. Once the investigation is complete, we will take appropriate responsive action.”

The cast members of this season were released just last week, and shooting had started after that at a resort in Sayulita, Mexico. So what could have happened? Rumors have started that the incident was between Corinne Olympios, the infamous villain from Nick Viall’s season, and DeMario Jackson, the infamous idiot who joined the cast of this season of the Bachelorette while he had a girlfriend.

It’s unlikely that anything but a proper, legal statement will be released by BIP, ABC, and/or Warner Bros., but it is concerning that two notorious cast members and villains would be involved so early into shooting. Here’s to hoping something is smoothed over for a fun season of nonstop sexual energy on a beach.

“We have become aware of allegations of misconduct on the set of Bachelor in Paradise in Mexico,” Warner Bros. told Us in a statement on Sunday. “We have suspended production and we are conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations. Once the investigation is complete, we will take appropriate responsive action.”

12 Tips That Can Help You Land a Flexible Career

$

Whether you’re a new mom looking to re-enter the workforce or you just want a job that lets you work remotely, flexible careers can lead to better productivity and happiness — so why not break out of the traditional mold?

“If you've been away from the workforce for a while, it's common to worry that diving back into the traditional 9 to 5 work style won't quite work for you,” says Brie Reynolds, a career specialist with FlexJobs. “Flexible and remote jobs can be a great option, especially if you still have a lot of responsibilities to juggle outside of your professional career.”

Below are four tips to keep in mind as you launch your flexible career, plus nine resources that can help you along the way.

Consider a mentor

Before you begin your search, you may want to talk to other women who've successfully established flexible careers. Find out how they got their jobs and let them know you’re interested in a similar arrangement, says Meredith Bodgas, editor-in-chief of Working Mother magazine. “You can find these women by attending conferences and panels on flexible work,” Bodgas explained. You never know what leads they might pass your way.

More15 jobs with flexible schedules for busy working moms

Showcase your flexibility

If you’ve worked remotely before, make a note of that on your résumé and LinkedIn profile. It’s a good idea to highlight that you can use remote working tools such as Skype and GoToMeeting as well, Reynolds says. “Most of these tools offer free trials or levels, so start using them and you'll be able to add them to your résumé." This will make you a more appealing candidate for remote jobs.

Apply anyway

Bodgas recommends applying for jobs that are up your alley even if they’re not advertised as having flexible hours or a remote option. Many companies allow alternative working arrangements but may not mention that in specific job postings. “Get a sense of what kinds of arrangements people with your role have at the company through blogs, the company's website and their social media posts," she says. "You can always express your interest in flexibility during an interview or once you've gotten an offer. It's something you can often negotiate."

Avoid scams

A a few words of caution for flexible job seekers: Don’t pay anyone to conduct your search for a flexible job and don’t take on a job that doesn’t include an immediate paycheck. “When you're searching different job boards or websites online, don't use the phrases ‘work from home job’ or ‘work at home job’ because they're most often used by scammers posting fake jobs,” says Reynolds.

MoreWhy businesses need more working moms

Flexible work resources

  1. FlexJobs: If you’re looking for a job search website that easily identifies flexible opportunities, many people say FlexJobs is the gold standard. It costs about $50 a year, or you can try it for a month for about $15. Some jobs are posted publicly on the web, but the service does curate other exclusive listings. It has a wide range of job categories to choose from and opportunities are posted daily, as are blog posts, webinars and other news on flexible working.
  2. Working Mother Best Companies: The magazine regularly posts news about job opportunities and rankings of flex-friendly companies.
  3. Work Options: Want to convince an employer to let you work more flexibly? This website has sample proposals you can use to help negotiate a flexible or alternative schedule with an employer.
  4. Corps Team: This Georgia-based staffing firm specializes in flexible work. Allison O’Kelly, CEO & founder of the firm, told Forbes that it’s a good time to seek out flexible work because more companies than ever are more open to it.
  5. Hire My Mom: For about $100 a year, this Texas-based company posts jobs that are ideal for moms who want to earn income and enjoy a flexible schedule.
  6. Online courses: Want to give your skill set a makeover? There are tons of classes to take online that can help. Check out the Golden Grenade BrigadeAprès Group, Lynda or ReBoot Accel for excellent options.
  7. Magnify your brand: Whether or not you know it, you're a brand. Everything from the lipstick you wear to what you post on social media creates your brand, and that’s what employers are buying into, say Gwen Wunderlich and Dara Kaplan, founders of The Enternship, a workforce re-entry program for women over 40. That’s why you should create a website, print business cards and network as much as you can.
  8. Go high-tech: Be prepared to use communication and organization tools such as Slack, Basecamp or Trello — especially if you're hoping to work remotely. These can be downloaded as mobile apps so you can always stay in touch with your co-workers when you’re on the go.

Is This Why No One Goes to Cheesecake Factory Anymore?

Cheesecake Factory has been an all-American family favorite for decades, whether you're into their giant desserts or equally sinful appetizers (that spinach-artichoke dip — heaven). That's why it's kinda surprising to hear that the chain's business is down, especially when you hear the reason why.

Chairman and CEO David Overton said in a statement that Cheesecake Factory "faced unfavorable weather that reduced patio usage” and that's why the company expects second-quarter sales to decrease 1 percent and shares of Cheesecake Factory are down 8 percent in Tuesday's trading.

MoreCopycat Cheesecake Factory carrot cake cheesecake

While obviously, we all love to dine al fresco, how many people really think of a chain restaurant with massive pieces of cheesecake as an ideal spot to enjoy the summer sun? What seems more likely is that Americans want to eat healthier — both generally and in advance of summer swimsuit season.

Still, if this is something that's unique to summer this year, rather than every summer, it could be that people are realizing that the Cheesecake Factory is not the best option for their families when it comes to eating out.

“We've seen heightened volatility in week-to-week sales trends, indicative of uncertainty on the part of many consumers,” says Overton. “Specifically, we have seen pockets of softness as we moved through the quarter, notably in the East and Midwest where we also faced unfavorable weather that reduced patio usage.”

Interestingly, the brand plans to expand delivery options and is testing a fast-casual concept. Not sure how that'll help with the patio weather situation, but we'll be keeping an eye on Cheesecake Factory to see if it can draw customers back in.

The internet is normally so good at sleuthing things out and solving mysteries. Really, it's one of the things the internet does best. Here Is Your Official 2017 Summer Playlist

It's just days until the official beginning of summer. We have our beach bags ready. We have our very long list of summer activities. We have our brand-new sunglasses, which we will not accidentally lose in the ocean for a few more weeks. But what about our summer playlist: the list that will make us think wistfully back on 2017 for decades to come?

We have you covered. These are the songs that will get you through it all: the traffic on your way to vacation, the vacation itself, the cold beers on the deck, the BBQs and brunches. There's some dance music, some breakup music and more than one feminist jam. Let's get started.

1. "Green Light" by Lorde

lorde green light

lorde green light

We are so glad that Lorde is back with a new album just in time for summer. Luckily for us, the first single off her new effort is an excellent summer jam, even if it's a bit dark like Lorde tends to be. "Green Light" has an awesome dance beat, some clapping and a perfect chorus — but it's also about tough times. As we dance on the light-up floor, let's try not to focus on the actual thrust of the song, which seems to be about not being able to let go of a terrible boyfriend. We swear we'll dump him by the fall, Lorde.

2. "I'm the One" by DJ Khaled (featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne)

At the beginning of "I'm the One," DJ Khaled says, "Let's celebrate life, success and our blessings," and then he gets down to it along with a huge cast of guest spots, including the Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne. We dare you not to nod your head through this obvious summer jam. We also dare you to pick your favorite verse. Our favorite depends on which one is on at this exact moment.

3. "Want You Back" by Haim

Haim is no stranger to being included on summer jam lists, and with their shimmering pop-rock hits, it's no surprise that they made the list again this year with "Want You Back." The three sisters, Este, Danielle and Alana, show up this summer with a bittersweet love song that is also good for driving around on summer days with your windows down. We are also super-excited for their sophomore album, which is due out in July.

4. "Passionfruit" by Drake

Of course we need a song from Drake. This one isn't exactly high energy — it's more of a slow, sultry jam with lots of ooohhhs and aaahhhs (and passion, of course). This one will be good for chilling in between high-powered pop songs — maybe try playing it on your car stereo it while sitting on the hood and looking at the stars. Or possibly while sitting on a dock with your feet dangling in some water.

After listening to a pretty superficial but delicious song by Drake, let's get a bit more serious with a Kendrick Lamar tune off his new amazing album Damn. We appreciate the depth of this track as well as the delicious beat. Other outlets have been picking "Humble" for their Lamar song pick, but we love listening to Rihanna rap. We were never going to leave your side even before we knew you needed loyalty, K-Dot.

6. "Holding On" by The War on Drugs

We will be the first to admit our summer jam mix doesn't include a whole lot of male indie rock bands — and we're totally fine with that. But this new track by The War on Drugs is the perfect addition. We love how it blends a high summer Bruce Springsteen sound with a bit of Bob Dylan growling, all topped off with some choice xylophone playing. It's a classic sound at almost an anthem level of rocking, and we will certainly turn it up every time it comes on.

7. “OX Tour Llif3” by Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3

Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3

It's hard to believe that a song with the hook, "Push me to the edge, all my friends are dead," could possible make a lighthearted summer jam mix. But here we are, and we love it. Uzi Vert is a relative newcomer in the rap world, but his lyrics and delivery style have us very, very interested in what's to come from the 22-year-old. But while we wait for what we're guessing is going to be a fast rise, we'll be listening to this song on repeat.

8. "Bad Liar" by Selena Gomez

selena gomez bad liar music video

Yes. Yes. YES. This is what we need right now. This song has every summer song element imaginable: clapping, a slow build, soaring notes, a sweet bridge (see 2:40) and a killer earworm chorus. This is one to listen to with while splitting a bottle of rosé with your girlfriends on the back porch while catching up on the weekend's gossip. Also great for singing in the car. Just don't try too hard for those high notes.

9. "Slide" by Calvin Harris (featuring Frank Ocean and Migos)

This mid-tempo song is so perfect for summer nights before things get super crazy — maybe when you're getting ready to go out or when it's just a few friends waiting to meet up with a bigger group later. "Do you slide on all your nights like this?" Frank Ocean sings in the super-smooth way he sings everything, and we are already planning to replay it before it ends.

10. "Don't Kill My Vibe" by Sigrid

don't kill my vibe music video

don't kill my vibe music video

We needed a new female-empowerment song this summer, and oh boy, did we find it. New Norwegian singer-songwriter Sigrid has reached international fame with "Don't Kill My Vibe," but it hasn't quite caught on in the U.S. Yet. Every time she sings, "You think you're so important to me don't you?" We want to scream, kick someone's ass and ask for a raise at work. It's just the best.

11. "Mask Off" by Future

We know what you are thinking: all of these songs are really great, but we haven't heard much flute yet. Well, don't fret. Future's summer jam "Mask Off" has an amazing beat that includes some sultry jazzy flute that goes great with the rapper's subtle, crooning Auto-tune sound. This song is for heading home at night after summer fun, whether you're driving with the windows down to get the night breeze or listening to your phone as you walk back to your place.

12. "Malibu" by Miley Cyrus

miley Cyrus malibu

We'll admit it: This is our guilty pleasure summer jam. We have mixed feelings about Miley Cyrus and this song. Yet we keep coming back to it. Let's not deny ourselves this obvious summer hit just because we are a bit annoyed. We are all about the bright guitar cords, the beachy lyrics and the positive, building energy. Plus, we needed a simple song about summer love, and here it is.

13. "Sign of the Times" by Harry Styles

Harry Styles sign of the times

Harry Styles sign of the times

We needed a slow piano ballad for our playlist, and here it is. We can't party all day and night. We need a break. In his self-titled debut solo album, Harry Styles of One Direction kills it with multiple songs that are making summer jam lists. We like this one for its sentimentality and wailing guitar along with some lovely falsetto and a soft rock beat. Why not? It's a sign of the times.

14. "I Feel It Coming" by The Weeknd (featuring Daft Punk)

i feel it coming by the weeknd

i feel it coming by the weeknd

This seems like a very, very simple formula for a summer hit. Mix one part The Weeknd with one part Daft Punk. The result is exactly what you think it would be: an extremely contagious song that seems perfect for any summer activity you can think of. Not since Michael Jackson have we heard such an infectious, lovely combination of vocals and beats. It's a winner for sure.

15. "Hard Times" by Paramore

hard times by paramore

hard times by paramore

Let's finish up with a shiny, shimmering rock/pop romp by Paramore, who returned to the music scene after a four-year hiatus with their fifth album last month. We love the jumping energy of the track, especially since it's paired with comparatively dark subject matter: living through hard times. We can relate. This song is great for dancing, even if you're not sure you feel like it.

Oprah's Wonder Woman Screening Party for 10-Year-Olds Was Everything

It should come as absolutely zero surprise that Oprah Winfrey throws the best parties in town. Combine one of Winfrey's parties with Wonder Woman, one of the biggest movies of the year, and a lucky AF group of 10-year-olds, and you've got the makings of a party everyone will be talking about — even those of us who weren't lucky enough to score an invite.

For those of us who weren't able to attend, Winfrey shared all the magic of her Wonder Woman party on social media. She included a bunch of Instagram videos that were probably the next best thing to actually being there.

"So excited 'cause — what? — it's Wonder Woman day in my house!" Winfrey said in the first video. "I'm having a party for 28 10-year-olds and Tiana just brought the cake from Charm City Cakes."

But for real, can we take a sec and admire that cake? That alone would make a party.

Winfrey didn't stop there. The party also included Wonder Woman-themed popcorn buckets and cups and even Wonder Woman flip-flops as party favors. Have we mentioned that Oprah Winfrey knows how to throw a party?

"Just a few more minutes and our guests are arriving," Winfrey sang. "We're ready for the party! Hello! It's Wonder Woman Day!"

Seriously, if this weren't already the best thing, her excitement alone would do it.

If anyone for any reason doesn't think this is the best party of all time, listen to Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot. Gadot re-Instagrammed one of Winfrey's videos, adding, "This is awesome!" with a praise hands emoji.

8 Real Moms on the One Beauty Necessity They Won’t Give Up

Why have we accepted that when you have kids, your me-time becomes nonexistent? We mean, when you become a mom, you kind of accept the fact that you’re no longer operating on your own schedule anymore — since obviously, creating a freaking life is outrageously demanding and deserves a significant chunk of your time — but that doesn’t mean you can’t make time for yourself too. And even though it’s necessary for your mental health to take a few minutes to do something self-indulgent at least a few times a week, it’s also probably the one thing that consistently gets shoved to the bottom of your priorities, right?

More: Meet CosDNA, a Website That Tells You Whether or Not Beauty Products Will Break You Out

We get it. That’s why we talked to eight real moms to find out exactly what their non-negotiable beauty “luxuries” are and why they’d never, ever give them up. No, we’re not talking about running away for a weeklong cruise every month, but the little things that make you happy, like the dermatologist who never misses her ultra-relaxing, one-hour eyelash extension appointment or the first-time mom who makes sure to give her face some TLC as soon as her son goes to sleep at night. Basically, these small beauty routines play a major, almost mandatory role in each mom’s life, and for good reason. So if you’re feeling like you’ve forgotten the definition of alone-time recently, scroll down to get inspired by these real-mom beauty luxuries. And yes, you’re required to take notes and add at least one to the top of your to-do list, ASAP.

1. Let them come to you

“Even though life is exponentially more busy when you have two young kids, I still have to make time for my hair. And since it’s usually a challenge to make it out to a salon for a blowout or color, I sometimes treat myself and have Glam Squad come to my apartment. It’s honestly the best of both worlds. I can get my hair done and not even leave the house. I think it’s important not to forget what makes you feel good about yourself, and little things like this give me a total lift without taking much time away from my family.” — Cori Zeichner, full-time mom of two (ages 6 and 4) and beauty blogger of The Derm Wife

2. Make the most of nights

“I try to remind myself that even though I’m a mom, at the end of the day, I still need to take care of myself physically, mentally and emotionally. One of the things I always look forward to after my son goes to sleep is pampering my skin, whether it’s slapping on a face mask, using a nice toner or slathering on some oils. We all deserve a mental break sometimes, and this ritual allows me to totally unwind at the end of a long day.” — Claudia Felix Garay, fashion blogger of The Penny Closet and mother to an 8-month-old

3. Don’t compromise

“My hair will always be a non-negotiable. It’s just become a part of our family routine now that every four to six weeks, Mom goes and gets her hair done. Especially as a vlogger, having good hair is really important to me. It’s something that I always do and could never give up.”  — Amanda, vlogger at AmandaMuse and mother of two (ages 5 and 3)

4. Focus on the eyes

“I think eyes can really age you, so every quarter, I like to get eyelash extensions for a little rejuvenation. The process takes at least a full hour, which may not seem like that much of a time suck, but when you’re a mom, you typically don’t have an extra hour to dispose of. It’s become an incredibly relaxing ritual for me — you get to lie on a soft, heated bed and listen to music. I usually fall asleep and I wake up knowing that I look a little younger.” — Mona Gohara, Yale dermatologist and mother of two (ages 10 and 8)

5. Take a time out

“I love getting massages, so once a month, my girlfriends and I schedule a spa day together. We’re always so busy taking care of others that we forget about ourselves, so a super-relaxing massage is always worth the small investment. It’s a great way to socialize and have a bit of a time out for myself.” — Tiffany Brown, makeup artist, style blogger and mother of two (ages 6 and 3)

6. Get some air

“Once every quarter, I get a 15-minute oxygen facial for a noticeable, all-over glow. It has all the perks of a typical facial, but it ends with an oxygen machine that blows air directly onto your face for a deep cleaning. It’s a really great antiager that isn’t abrasive, and I always leave with smaller pores and softer skin. ” — Samantha Wennerstrom, styler blogger of Could I Have That and mother to a 2-year-old

7. Go toe to toe

“It took me a long time to accept the fact that I deserve some me-time. And after having two little girls only one-and-a-half years apart, I barely had three months of not being pregnant or nursing or some other jazz. But I now gift myself a pedicure once every six weeks so I can have 45 minutes of pure alone-time. No husband, no kids, no dog — just me and my technician, who I of course end up chatting with about my husband, kids and dog.” — Samantha Robinson, beauty vlogger at Saaammage and mother of two (ages 3 and 5)

8. Say “screw it”

“Even though having kids means spending money on them, my Chanel beauty products are non-negotiable. Chanel makeup and skin care products agree with my combination skin and never break me out. There’s just something about using an incredibly good mascara in the morning and washing my face with a product that smells and feels great at the end of a long day that I can’t do without. Although their products are expensive and can eat into other budgets, it’s the one thing that I try to treat myself to.” — Rachel Girsch, CFO of specialty contracting company and mother of two (ages 3 and 2 months)

Cameron Diaz's Marriage to Benji Madden Actually Sounds Perfect

Cameron Diaz, can I have your life? She's beautiful, successful and married to Benji Madden, who is most definitely the superior Madden twin. Speaking as a person who was the unofficial president of the Benji Madden Fan Club in middle school and attended a Good Charlotte concert wearing black lipstick, I can confirm that Diaz has damn fine taste in men.

That said, Madden has a hella great thing going with Diaz, even though I've been low-key jealous of her since the second they got together. At the Goop Wellness Summit on a panel moderated by the Goop queen herself Gwyneth Paltrow, Diaz confessed to having the perfect life and a marriage that teenage me had dreamed of having with Madden. *Sigh*

Her gushing came after Paltrow asked her about waiting to get married until she was quite a bit older than a lot of women are when they walk down the aisle. "Cameron, you got married later," Paltrow said. "What was it that kept you from getting married until you were 40?"

Diaz corrected her first, saying, "41," then added, "I think it's a matter of I just hadn't met my husband, you know? I had boyfriends before. And there's a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends."

She continued, "And I have a husband who is just my partner in life and in everything. Talk about two very different people! We are so different from one another, but we share the same values — we're totally two peas in a pod. We are both just weird enough for each other."

Everything You Need to Know About the A-Spot (& Why You’ll Thank Us Later)

$

Contrary to belief, the G-spot isn’t the only way to achieve an orgasm during intercourse. Let me introduce to you, with much enthusiasm, the A-spot.

The anterior fornix erogenous zone is an area of sensitivity that is located at the back end of the clitoris, where the wall begins to curve upward. The A-spot is beyond the G-spot, just above the cervix, and can be located during anal sex. It’s known as the equivalent of the male prostate; however, it can be found during penis-in-vagina penetration and foreplay as well.

Only 11 percent of women have discovered this zone, which is quite honestly a shame. We have zones, people, let’s find ’em and awaken ’em!

More: How to start using sex toys with your partner

How do you stimulate the A-spot?

To begin, like any type of foreplay, trim your nails and insert a clean and lubricated finger into the deepest point in your vagina. Once you locate a round and firm area in the vagina, you know you have reached the cervix. Move your finger gently over this area like a windshield wiper.

Since the A-spot is located at the back of the vagina, fingers or anal sex can trigger this zone. But don’t worry; a long penis isn’t necessary in accessing the A-spot. A vagina’s average length is less than 3 inches, making it possible to reach in various positions with penetration.

But with the A-spot, the key to orgasm isn’t touch, it’s pressure and movement, says sexual health expert Jennifer Berman, M.D.

Unlike the G-spot, which is typically found using the “come here” motion with your finger(s), the A-spot doesn’t respond to this movement because it applies too much pressure to the area.

As said before, the A-spot can also be found during anal sex. The indirect stimulation between the vagina and the rectum can trigger the back side where the A-spot is located.

More: This Is One Way to Close the Orgasm Gap

What’s so great about the A-spot?

The Malaysian doctor who discovered the A-spot in the 1990s, Dr. Chua Chee Ann, says that stimulating this area can increase lubrication in women. Reaching the A-spot 10 minutes a day can greatly improve vaginal dryness.

In 1985, Chua was in New Delhi at the Asian Conference of Sexology when he saw a video about the phenomenon of female ejaculation. He thought about the transference of fluid and how female ejaculation could be channeled in order to create vaginal lubrication for those experiencing dryness. Chua found the A-spot in 1989 and conducted clinical trials between 1990 and 1994 in 271 women who were experiencing vaginal dryness.

Moreover, the stimulation of the A-spot can create several intense orgasms. The clitoris can suffer from post-orgasm sensitivity, but the A-spot does not. What does this mean? It means no rest periods are required when arousing the A-spot.

The A-spot, also known as the deep spot, is all about experimentation. In addition to this erogenous zone, there is the U-spot, the G-spot, the P-spot and the K-spot — phew! A serious world to explore, which make it hard to come up with an excuse for the orgasm gap to even exist. Let’s close it, one spot at a time.

Has My Kid Lied to Me About Drinking & Drugs?

Welcome to Survivor, in which author Catherine Newman tries to answer your questions about adolescents and why they’re like that — and how to love them despite everything.

Have a question for Newman? Send it to her here.

Question:

My 15-year-old tells me he has never tried drugs or alcohol, and I'm inclined to believe him. Recently, however, a friend of mine, who is the mother of a friend of my son, told me that her son identified only two kids in their group who have never tried anything, and my son wasn't one of the two. Should I ask him about this?

Answer:

Stick with your inclination to believe your son — but don’t wriggle your head into the sand about the information you’re getting, which is that his friend group is experimenting. Your son will likely, at the very least, be tempted to join them.

A friend of mine has this mantra: "Delay, delay, delay." Her feeling is not that you can swaddle your kids in a blanket of innocence and keep them there forever, but that the more time you can buy, the better off they’ll be: greater development of the brain’s decision-making faculties and of the brain in general, better impulse control, more experience under their belt, more security in their peer group. The longer you can stretch their substance-free time, the better, and I’m inclined to agree.

My 17-year-old son has this mantra: “Trust, trust, trust.” Building it, recognizing it, maintaining it. For him, this means not accusing your son of lying or withholding information — not even indirectly. He thinks you should say something along the lines of, “You’re getting to be that age where your friends might be trying things and starting to experiment. Here’s what I want you to know.” Then you can say what your concerns are (addiction, your fried-egg brain on drugs, peer pressure, etc.) and that you will hope always to be a trusted resource for your child — a person he can always talk to without fear of recrimination.

You might be transparent during this conversation about your hope that he delays experimentation, and I think it’s wise to cite studies of teenager brain development just so the kids understand what’s at stake and don’t imagine that you’re being a moralizing priss for no especial reason. Also, even if you make no other rules, please do impress upon your son the absolute horror of opioids and explain that they can make your brain addicted to them for the rest of your life, whether or not you’re a good, smart, disciplined, moderate person.

Back to trust and why you should continue to have it despite the unsettling experience of hearing otherwise. The 17-year-old imagines that something got lost in translation in terms of the information you got from your son’s friend’s mom. “There could have been miscommunication somewhere in the three stages of telling and retelling.”

The 14-year-old imagines that the other kid was trying to make it look like everyone was trying stuff — seeking safety in numbers and perhaps exaggerating along the way.

And my husband imagines that in a group of peers confessing their wildest exploits, your son might have felt compelled to make up some of his own — or even that at a party he held an undrunk beer in his hand all night to fend off unwanted pressure. (A perfectly good strategy in an less-than-ideal situation.)

But let’s say your son has tried something and lied to you about it. The 17-year-old doesn’t think any good will come from him feeling bad about this. “You want your child to feel like they don’t have to be super-secretive, and anger or guilt is not the best way to accomplish this. Make your kid feel like a) they can talk to you about anything and b) they don’t have to have this huge horrible internal battle about whether or not they told you.” He said this partly in response to the 14-year-old’s encouragement that you say, “If it ever happens in the future, you can tell me!” to which 17 answered, “But can I tell you if I already did it in the past and lied about it?” Oof.

Ultimately, it’s a courtesy that your child extends you, sharing their secrets and the details of their experience. They don’t have to, and you can’t make them. Remember to appreciate their confidence, however it comes and however after-the-fact it might be. “Thank you,” you should say, every time, even if it’s something you didn’t want to know. “I feel so privileged that you told me.” Then you can strategize about what comes next.

Morris Chestnut Lands a New Role, Is Saved by the TV Gods

The TV gods are smiling on Morris Chestnut today.

More: 13 Must-See Summer Premieres on Netflix, Hulu & Amazon

His starring role in Rosewood came to an abrupt end a month ago when Fox decided to cancel the series after its second season. But Chestnut has already secured his next move. He'll be joining the cast of Amazon's Goliath in its second season.

In the courtroom drama series, Chestnut will reportedly play chief deputy district attorney Hakeem Rashad, a criminal prosecutor who has gone head-to-head against his rival, Billy Bob Thornton's character, throughout their careers. That dynamic alone promises plenty of drama and a juicy storyline for the incoming Chestnut, and we personally can't wait to binge-watch this one.

Before this, Chestnut had a recurring role on Seasons 5 and 6 of Nurse Jackie, and his executive producer from the Showtime series, Clyde Phillips, is taking over as Goliath's showrunner for the second season. Getting those two back together promises to be a highly anticipated move for Goliath, further building hype for the upcoming season.

Season 2 of Goliath is expected to debut in 2018. It already has a fair amount of prestige before Chestnut joins — Thornton won a Golden Globe this year for his lead role in the series as defense attorney Billy McBride. It also boasts a talented supporting cast, including William Hurt, Maria Bello and Olivia Thirlby.

8 Dads Open Up About How Fatherhood Changed Their Lives

Depending on who you listen to, fatherhood can be an amazing experience or a lifetime of stress and early balding. Comedian Ray Romano once likened having kids to living in a frat house: "Nobody sleeps, everything’s broken and there’s a lot of throwing up.”

All joking aside, parenthood definitely changes you. In honor of Father's Day this month, we asked some new dads about the biggest ways their lives have changed since their kids came along. Here are their heart-melting responses.

dylan dad

dylan dad

Increased patience

“I remember one moment that transformed my outlook on fatherhood. It was about 2:30 a.m. on a weeknight after I'd worked into the evening and had to wake up early the next day. I was not interested in the inconvenience my 3-year-old was creating by crying for me at that hour. I grumpily got out of bed, stormed upstairs with a bad daditude, opened the door to his room and said, “What do you want, son?!” His answer profoundly changed my life and the kind of man I wanted to be and teach my children to be. He said, “I just wanted to kiss you." My whole perspective has changed because of the lessons my kids have taught me — of love, forgiveness and acceptance.” — Dylan, 25, Dallas, Texas

More15 Father's Day Gifts He'll Actually Be Happy to Open

Enhanced maturity

“Since I became a dad just a few weeks ago, I've become more hands-on and helpful with my wife. I feel bad that I cannot breastfeed or calm our daughter down in the middle of the night, so I've stepped up in other ways. I also never thought I would be OK with changing diapers, but I took it seriously in the hospital and learned how, and now whenever I'm home, that's my duty. As far as work, I'm more motivated than ever to grow my PR business… It's hard to pinpoint exactly, but it feels like I'm the same person, but more mature, responsible and on top of things.” — Warren, 29, Englewood, New Jersey

So much love

“Fatherhood has shown me what true love really is. Every day, being a father teaches me the meaning of unconditional acceptance and compassion. It also makes me realize that matters I felt were so important, like my career and climbing the corporate ladder, do not seem so relevant anymore. [Joseph] comes first in my life. [As a single dad,] I owe the staff at RMANJ fertility clinic who made fatherhood a reality for me so much for bringing Joseph into my life and helping me to become a better human being each and every day.” — Tom, 47, Edina, Minnesota

More kindness & wisdom

“Fatherhood gives you a new take on life. Especially if you have a child at a younger age, it makes you take life more seriously! It makes you kinder, wiser, and gives you the ability to think at a greater distance — short-term thinking versus long-term thinking. My kids have helped me achieve patience, which we millennials don't usually have much of.” — Chrystopher, 24, Houston, Texas

An investment in the greater good

“My son, who just turned a year old, was born at the apex of a tumultuous election. [Fatherhood] opened my eyes to how central political action must be in the lives of all Americans. I realized that I'd taken so much for granted before. Now, outside of work and parenting, I'm spending time reaching out to my congressional representatives, marching and donating to the ACLU and other causes. I want my son to grow up in a country that takes his education seriously, that is taking active steps toward protecting the environment and that will preserve the American identity of a nation of immigrants. That's the country I want him to grow up in and I'm doing everything I can to secure that for him.” — Heath, 39, Brooklyn, New York

New motivation

“It’s easy to be carefree, spend frivolously and take 'safe' jobs when all you have to worry about is yourself, but as soon as you become a father, another life is completely dependent on you and your choices. As a single father especially, I felt motivated to not only provide for my son, but to be as present in his life as I could. I left my 'safe' 9-to-5 job waiting tables in order to run my business full time. Five years later, that business is thriving, and I’m fortunate enough to be able to set a flexible schedule to spend as much time with my son as possible.” — Adam, 35, Manahawkin, New Jersey

Total selflessness

“Before I had a kid, I could have dinner at whatever time I wanted, visit friends as soon as they called or see movies at the drop of a hat, but now I look at the world with my son in mind. It matters how late I stay up now because regardless of what time I get into bed, I know he's going to be awake at 6 a.m. on the dot. I drive more cautiously because I don’t know what I’d do if he got hurt. I even watch hours of Baby Einstein regardless of how mind-numbing it is. Even though all he does it take from me — my time, my energy, my attention, my money — I’m happy to do it! I’ve learned how to be selfless in a way that I have never known.” — Trevor, 28, Salt Lake City, Utah

Different priorities

"I have two children under the age of 3. Since I also run my own business, the biggest change in my priorities is a much greater emphasis on time-management than before I had kids. I want to make sure I have enough time to devote to spending quality time with my children, wife and my business. This means I have to be much more conscious of how and where I'm spending every minute and ensuring I'm making the most of every minute." — David, 38, Manhattan, New York

Updated, June 14, 1:30 p.m. PT: After raising over $13 million for Manchester victims and their families at her One Love concert, Ariana Grande has been named the city's first honorary citizen.

Sir Richard Leese, leader of the Manchester City Council, told reporters that Grande was full of "love and courage" in the way she responded to the attack and that naming her and others involved in the aftermath as honorary citizens honors the "great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit" that followed.

Honorary citizenship is the highest honor a city can bestow upon an individual in the U.K., according to The Guardian.

If you missed Grande's benefit concert, see the most moving moments from the show below.

Original story:

The One Love Manchester concert was a rousing success on Sunday, June 4, with plenty of memorable performances to act as a balm during these increasingly troubling times. The case for this was strongest with one uniquely perfect and heartbreaking performance: Ariana Grande's One Love rendition of "Over The Rainbow."

Grande performed the classic song during the One Love Manchester concert, and while there were plenty of songs that could bring tears in their newfound poignancy, it was this cover that really struck a chord. So much so that Grande herself appeared visibly overcome with emotion as she sang. Seriously, try not to well up watching her sing. It's a stunning and tender moment.

Of course, there was nothing but love in that arena on Sunday night. As the camera panned to the crowd, you could see concertgoers were just as overcome with emotion. "Over The Rainbow" gained a newer, perhaps more bittersweet context at the One Love Manchester concert, becoming an anthem for the lives lost and the call for promises of better things to come our way in the future.

The concert was an incredible effort and for that hard work, it turned out to be a massive success. Put together in the space of a week, just days after the tragic Manchester attack which took the lives of 22 people, One Love Manchester proved to be a unifying event. Grande headlined and she was also able to bring a great many notable singers to Manchester to perform with her. This included Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Pharrell, Niall Horan, Justin Bieber and Mac Miller. Singers like Bieber and Perry took a moment to address the crowd, speaking with them about the power and necessity of love during these upsetting times.

Online Dating? Don't Fall Into This Common Trap

Have you ever said yes to one date and then canceled a day later because someone more enticing popped up on your dating app? Hey, if you’ve fallen victim to the "grass is greener" mentality when it comes to romantic prospects, you’re not alone according to a new study by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Researchers Jonathan D’Angelo and Catalina Toma gathered 152 undergrad students looking for dates online to find out just how satisfied they were with their selection after choosing from a large set of potential partners (i.e., 24) vs. a small set of partners (i.e., six). They discovered that the group who had the most potential dates to choose from was also the most likely to be dissatisfied with their selection (and more likely to change it) just one week later.

Researchers chalk this phenomenon up to something called counterfactual thinking, which basically means that having more choices allows people to generate counterfactuals, or negative thoughts about the merits of the discarded alternatives. As a result of wondering what might have been, people tended to feel dissatisfied with their original choices.

I think we can all admit to the occasional wandering eye when we're out with a newish partner or scrolling through online matches immediately after agreeing to a date — just to, you know, make sure there’s no one better out there. "Even though you're meeting people who are potentially similar, there can be downside to having that much access," says D'Angelo.

It's kind of like what happens when a toddler's playing with a perfectly good toy and then you wave something shiny and pretty in front of him or her — they're going to forget about the first toy and be totally preoccupied with checking out the next. Anyone who's dated in a major metropolis (*cough, cough* New York City) is probably at least vaguely familiar with a dating scene in which people tend to have a bit of an attention deficit because there are just so many people to choose from.

Plus, online dating creates a false sense of intrigue and abundance. Sure, there are dozens more people you can swipe right on after agreeing to a date with someone, but there's no way to really know if they're available and compatible. That leaves us to our imaginations, which can definitely build up potential partners in ways that are tougher to live up to in reality.

Even though the researchers found that it's not always better for online daters to have more choices, they still say the benefits of online dating outweigh the drawbacks. So the next time you go sifting through the list of potential matches, just remember the tip you received in high school before any major multiple choice test: always stick with your first choice.
