A$AP Rocky Lost $1.5 Million in an Armed Robbery

$

Three armed robbers broke into A$AP Rocky's house and made off with $1.5 million in jewelry and other valuables, reports say.

More: What Happens in the Met Gala Bathroom Never Stays in the Met Gala Bathroom

According to Us Weekly a female family member was the only person in the house when she was confronted by the three men, one of whom had a handgun. The men tried to get her to open a safe, but she told them she didn't know the combination.

"The suspects tried to take the safe with them, but they weren't able to take it so they left it on the sidewalk," LAPD told Us Weekly. "They took approximately $1.5 million worth of jewelry and other items."

The woman was not injured, police said.

The really bizarre thing about the robbery is that it's eerily similar to a rash of robberies that have hit the entire Kardashian family, including A$AP Rocky's rumored girlfriend, Kendall Jenner. First was Kim Kardashian, who was robbed at gunpoint in a Paris apartment; around $11 million in jewels were stolen that night. And just earlier this year, Jenner's home was robbed, though reports make no mention of weapons being involved in that incident. According to TMZ, Jenner threw a party on March 15, and an invited guest at her Hollywood Hills mansion got into her bedroom and stole $200,000 worth of jewelry, including Rolex and Cartier watches. Reports say Jenner fired the security guard who was on duty at the time of the robbery.

It's possible that all these events are just a strange coincidence, and that's what we hope is the case. If the robberies are connected in any way, we hope this is the last time any of the Kardashian/Jenner fam and their friends will be targeted.

The 7-Day Challenge Your Skin Will Love You For

$

We really put our skin through the ringer over the years. We know that everything from stress to makeup and sun exposure cause wear and tear, but the good news is you can actually reverse or slow a lot of that damage. Start by taking this simple skin care challenge to get things on track again.

Image: Gabriela Arellano/SheKnows

Day 1

Here's the deal: You don't need to wash your face in the morning. In most cases, it's not doing any serious damage, but by overwashing, you're also stripping your skin of the good oils it worked hard to produce in recovery overnight. Take care of the skin on the rest of your body each morning by lathering up with a moisturizing body wash while you're in the shower — but skip your face. Instead, just splash your face with some cold water and moisturize, and take note of how your skin reacts throughout the week.

End your day with a good face cleanse, but don't stop at your skin. Take some time to trash expired skin care and makeup products and clean any makeup brushes or sponges if it's been a while. Check out this guide to when every type of makeup expires to get you started.

More: How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes in Less Than Five Minutes

Day 2

This one is a no-brainer. Drink more water. Hydration is essential to making sure your organs function properly, skin included. The jury is still out on whether water has a direct impact the appearance of your skin, but it certainly promotes healthier skin (healthier everything, really). Next, pencil in a full-body exfoliation session for nighttime to say goodbye to dead skin cells and get a fresher look from head-to-toe.

Day 3

Sugar is delicious, yes. Good for your skin, though? Definitely not. Well, let me back up. It's a great exfoliator used topically, but when you eat too much sugar (guilty), it can break down elasticity and prevent collagen from doing its job. If you're feeling up to the task, kick off a sugar detox (beware, it's in everything). Or, simply initiate no sugar days throughout your week. Everything but naturally occurring sugar from fruits gets the boot.

End your day by starting to focus on sleep quality. Poor sleep quality can hinder the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, speed up aging and cause inflammation. So start a sleep ritual about an hour before bedtime and do it nightly. It could be anything — meditating, reading, stretching and even little touches like misting your pillow with lavender spray and turning on ambient noises. Pick things that tell your body it's time to wind the eff down (and yes, that means no more phone or computer).

More: The Five Steps of Sugar Rehab

Day 4

Bacteria is the number one cause of acne, so it's time to do a major cleanup of all the things that touch your skin. Wake up and throw your sheets in the washing machine and toss them in the dryer before you leave for the day. Buy some cellphone wipes. Get a new loofah (or stop using one altogether because they're actually pretty gross). Think of anything else that your skin comes in contact with, and put it on your "clean me ASAP" list.

Now, you may not like this next part, but it's time to take note of how many glasses of vino (and other booze) you drink weekly. I get it; a couple of glasses of wine or a beer at happy hour is pretty much like going to yoga after a long day at work. However, too much booze can dehydrate your skin and cause inflammation. Initiate a month without booze, or add a no-booze policy to your no-sugar days.

Day 5

The New York Times reported on a study that found exercising regularly gave people ages 40 and up the skin quality they had in their 20s and 30s. That's as close to magic as you'll ever get. Now, you don't have to run a marathon or anything. Start small. If you don't exercise at all, pick a couple of days a week to start your day with a jog or stop at the gym on your way home. If you do exercise but want to step it up, try something new like a Barre class or a new yoga studio.

Then end your night by relaxing with a face mask. Choose one that caters to your skin type or a common skin issue you face.

Day 6

Now, for the V-word: vitamins. There are so many that help your skin in one way or another, so talk to your doctor about which ones may help you. Vitamin A can help stop premature signs of aging. Vitamin C can help regulate collagen. Zinc is anti-inflammatory. Vitamin B helps reduce redness. You catch my drift.

While vitamins can be a great addition to your routine, most doctors and nutritionists will also tell you it's always better to get nutrients straight from food. So start a rule at dinner to eat one type of leafy green every night. According to our sister site StyleCaster, spinach is a good source of vitamin A and iron. Arugula contains sulfur, which helps with collagen. The infamous Kale (yes, I capitalized it) is a good source of vitamins A and C.

Day 7

We shouldn't have to tell you this one, but we're going to anyway. Always wear sunscreen. Wear it on rainy days. Wear it on cloudy days. Wear it when you go to work. Wear it often. There are tons of great brands making daily-use SPFs that don't make you smell like you're going to the beach, so find one you like and use it often.

Now, if you started this challenge on a Monday, today is Sunday. There's no better way to reward yourself and kick off many more weeks of better skin habits than to get a massage. Go drop in somewhere for some R&R — bonus points for setting up recurring appointments. Massages have endless health benefits, like improving chronic pain and lowering blood pressure, but they also increase blood flow, which is great for your skin.

Amber Rose, Victim of Home Invasion, Was Asleep During the Incident

It would appear that another celebrity has fallen victim to a frightening invasion, leaving their safety under threat. Amber Rose was the victim of a home invasion by an unidentified man in the wee hours of May 17. While it is unconfirmed, the timing of the robbery at Rose's home is an incredible coincidence; recently, rapper A$AP Rocky's home was also broken into, with an estimated $1 million worth of property stolen in the process.

More: Amber Rose & Blac Chyna Are Lovers & Fighters for Valentine's Day

According to TMZ, the robbery at Rose's home sounds like it was a terrifying ordeal for the former Dancing with the Stars contestant. A man allegedly broke into Rose's home while she was still asleep. Apparently, the man broke into the house through a window that led into her pantry. Once he had broken into the home, according to sources who spoke to TMZ, he stayed in the residence for about four hours. Four hours, people!

TMZ further reports that when Rose's assistant woke up early (Rose, her son, her mother, her assistant and her bodyguards were sleeping in the residence) to make food, she must have been loud enough to alert the unwelcome intruder, because he was gone by the time she would have potentially crossed paths with him.

More: Amber Rose & Val Chmerkovskiy Toned Down Their PDA for a Kiss Cam

According to E! News, Rose looked at the surveillance footage after possibly being awoken by the activity in the house. Upon viewing the break-in and subsequent activities of the male intruder, she called police to her home. At the time of this article, there were no items reported stolen. Additionally — and thankfully — Rose and her loved ones did not come into harm's way either.

More: Amber Rose: 11 More Interesting Instagram Posts Than Those Near-Nude Pics

This home invasion is certainly troubling, but it's also incredibly interesting in regard to timing. While Rose's possessions remain intact, the fact the she was targeted after acquaintance A$AP Rocky was recently robbed remains (in my opinion) a point of interest. Rocky's friend, Kendall Jenner, was also the victim of a home invasion and burglary in March. It was presumed the thief was someone close to Jenner because the robbery happened during a friendly gathering at Jenner's home.

Are these robberies and home invasions connected? Are we looking at The Bling Ring, part deux? All things considered, what matters most right now is that Rose is OK.

What's the Rush? Your 30s Are Just Fine for Baby-Making

I remember the panic creeping in during my late 20s: Was I running out of time to get pregnant? Was I even ready to get pregnant? Was I with the right partner for such a massive endeavor?

Although I had my first child at 30, it turns out I probably had a little more wiggle room than I thought. In fact, I was ahead of my time according to data released on Wednesday by the smart folks at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (yeah, we think it's weird that pregnancy data falls under the umbrella of "disease control," but hey, we can roll with it). The data show that women in their early 30s are having more babies than women in their 20s or teens — who knew?

More: Pregnancy after 35 could be good for your health

Twenty-somethings have been the most prolific baby makers for more than 30 years (an impressive act to follow). That shifted last year when 30-somethings took over — likely due to the normalization of women waiting longer to have kids in U.S. society. There's also been a continuing decrease in teen birth rates (despite what MTV's Teen Mom might have you believe).

The average age now for when a woman has her first child? Twenty-eight. Nice!

Of course, there are varying health concerns for every age when it comes to pregnancy, but timing seems far less dire these days. Are you nearing your 30s — or in your 30s — and you can't even conceive of conceiving just yet? Hey, it's OK to relax. You're part of a very cool trend.

Bonus: Maybe it's time to take that backpacking trip around the world or start that business you've been dreaming of or dump the on-again, off-again idiot. Yeah, now you're talking.

9 Reasons Adopting a Cat Is the Absolute Best

$

0

I am a huge advocate for pet adoption from way back. Growing up, my family had tons of pets, and all of them (except the hamsters) were from shelters. Nothing compares to the feeling you get from bringing an abandoned animal into a loving home and giving it a chance at a better life.

I can speak to rescuing cats in particular because they're the first animals I adopted as a full-fledged adult. I had wanted a cat for a while but always put off getting one for one reason or another. Finally, I got a roommate who was in full support of adoption, and we decided to just go for it. The experience was life-changing in the best way, and I will never forget all the details that made it awesome.

Here are nine reasons why it's wonderful to adopt a cat.

1. You will have so many to choose from

Image: Giphy

If you're indecisive, I suppose this might be intimidating — but if you love adorable felines of all shapes and sizes, every shelter you walk into will be a dream come true. Kittens are usually most abundant in the spring months, but remember, older cats are just as cute and much calmer.

More: Now We Know Why Cats Really Have Whiskers

2. They're less expensive

Image: Giphy

At least in the beginning, unless you pick a particularly old cat or one that's injured. Reputable shelters usually take care of all preliminary shots, spay or neuter them, clear up any major medical issues and insert a microchip before sending them home with new owners, and all for a low adoption fee. If you buy from a breeder, you may get all of that along with an average price tag in the thousands.

3. Shelter staff and volunteers are the nicest

Image: Giphy

Let's just say they're not doing the job for the sizable 401K. These people love animals to the utmost and just want to see them go home with someone loving and wonderful like you. They'll answer any questions you might have, and help you feel super-confident about starting a life with your new furry friend.

4. When you rescue one cat, you're helping all the other animals in the shelter, too

Image: Giphy

Your adoption fee, and any donation you see fit to give when you adopt, goes to keeping the shelter open so it can care for more wayward pets that are looking for homes. That's a pretty great boost for the ego!

5. Cats are really good at taking care of themselves (for the most part)

Image: Giphy

We love dogs, but cats are some of the easiest pets you can have. They clean themselves, don't need to go outside for exercise and even teach themselves how to go to the bathroom. Yes, you'll need to clean said bathroom — but if you stock up on premium odor absorbing cat litter like Blue Buffalo Naturally Fresh®, it's seriously no big deal. Throw out some food and water every day, and you're good to go.

6. They make the best couch buddies

Image: Giphy

Whether you're Netflix bingeing, reading or just napping, odds are you'll end up with your fluffy friend curled up in your nook. The only problem is it'll be tricky to get up and use the bathroom because you won't want to disturb it.

7. You'll be saving a life

Image: Giphy

It's always hard for me to think what might've happened to my kittens had they not been rescued off of Kings Highway in Brooklyn. If you rescue your cat from a kill shelter, you'll be saving it from meeting its end in that building. I can't think of a better way to forge a lifelong friendship.

8. Cats kill unwanted creepy crawlers

Image: Giphy

Hunters by nature, it's their job to take down anything smaller than them that moves. So you can say good-bye to your spider problem.

9. They make you healthier

Image: Giphy

Apart from improving your emotional health, owning a cat is known to lower stress levels and blood pressure. Also, purring is therapeutic and can even help heal bones. Essentially, cats are magical creatures.

More: American Idol Reportedly Eyeing Katy Perry for a Seat at the Judges’ Table

First there was the whole brouhaha when ABC landed the revival instead of Fox, where American Idol aired for all 1 million of its seasons up until last year. There's been the sheer ridiculousness of the fact that Idol is being rebooted after exactly one year off the air. And now, there's Taylor Hicks throwing so much shade. This is better than Real Housewives and The Bachelor combined, y'all.

And yes, we're talking about that Taylor Hicks: the adorably awkward silver haired guy who won Season 5 and promptly disappeared from fame, while the runner-ups from his season went on to be way more successful than him. I mean, Katharine McPhee was on his season. So was Chris Daughtry, who is the source of Hicks' shade game lately.

More: Farewell American Idol & Thanks for All the Memories

Daughtry was recently named one of the Idol reboot's judges alongside Katy Perry. Even though Daughtry has been objectively far more successful than Hicks throughout both of their careers, this was apparently the last straw for Hicks. He finally snapped.

"I think a winner should be [a judge], personally," he said during an interview with the Domenick Nati Show this week. "Because what you go through to win the show is a lot different than what you go through when you’re third or fourth, you know, or fifth. Or 10th. If they were going to have a judge that’s from the show, if they’re going to have someone from the show who was actually a contestant, I would feel like a winner would be the best-suited."

Who was in fourth place that season? Oh, yeah. Daughtry. Shots fired.

More: Could American Idol Be Making a Comeback? All Signs Point to Yes

Something tells us, though, that all this salt isn't going to bother Daughtry one bit. His career has been on a little bit of a slowdown — he hasn't released any new music since 2013, and his last radio hit was in 2011. This Idol news is big for him, regardless of what haters like Hicks think.

Latest RHONY Episode Challenged in a Last-Minute Lawsuit

Let's all raise our chardonnay tonight to Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Gerald Lebovits tonight, because he's the reason we were able to tune into the latest episode of The Real Housewives of New York.

More: Carole Radziwill Was Closer to John F. Kennedy Jr.'s Death Than You Realize

The episode was challenged in a last-minute lawsuit from a woman who tried to block it from going on the air. Barbara Kavovit, a former contractor who invented a line of female-targeted tools called DIYVA, claimed she was illegally recorded by a cast member, and that Bravo had no right to air her voice or likeness on RHONY.

Kavovit was at a charity event in December in lower Manhattan, where she admits she knew crews were filming for RHONY. But in her lawsuit, she says she pulled RHONY cast member Carole Radziwill aside to have a private conversation — or so she thought. Later, Kavovit learned that Radziwill had been wearing a microphone at the time, but, um, of course she was, because she was filming for RHONY at that event.

More: Go home, Jill Zarin, you're drunk

Anyway, Kavovit's lawyer sent a letter to Bravo saying they didn't have her permission to air her "voice or likeness," and when no one responded, she filed an emergency lawsuit, in which her lawyer argued that New York City statutes say the network needs Kavovit's permission to use the recording for "commercial use." Attorneys for Bravo, on the other hand, argued that the show is a creative endeavor, and therefore protected by the First Amendment.

"How can I stop the millions of adoring fans from learning about this," Judge Lebovits joked before agreeing with Bravo's lawyers, saying, "There’s a heavy, heavy burden for a petitioner to overcome on First Amendment grounds"

He further defended his decision by adding, "If the court … prevents the TV show from airing tonight there will be irreparable injury to NBC Universal and possibly to millions of people who might be interested in watching."

More: Jules Wainstein, "Most Honest Person," Is Still Trashing Bethenny Frankel

The judge, however, won't be tuning in despite his decision in favor of the show. When asked whether he'd check it out, he said he has "a prior engagement."

In a Surprise Move, Charlie Sheen May Have Actually Saved Lives

$

Given the sheer amount of ridiculous news in the past 100 or so days, it almost seems appropriate to report that Charlie Sheen may in fact be responsible for saving some lives.

Let’s go back to a simpler time — November 2015 to be exact — when on an episode of Today, Sheen told Matt Lauer that he was HIV-positive. At that stage, he said that he had been living with HIV and on medication for four years and indicated that he felt the need to come forward because he was being blackmailed by sex workers who threatened to disclose his status.

More: 17 Years After Today Colonoscopy, Katie Couric Still Inspires Screenings

But what started as an attempt to control his own narrative has actually become the impetus for real-life positive effects. First we learned that after his announcement, Google searches for not just “HIV" but also searches containing the terms “condom[s],” “symptoms” and “testing” spiked significantly. Sure, raising awareness is always a good thing, but it doesn’t necessarily translate into public health gains or lives saved.

Today we learned that the impact of Sheen’s announcement may have done more than just make people panic-search HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. It also resulted in a big increase in sales of in-home HIV testing kits.

More: Kirsten Dunst Shuts Down Sofia Coppola's Request That She Lose Weight for a Movie

An article published today in Prevention Science says that sales of in-home HIV test kit OraQuick rose 95 percent the week of Sheen’s disclosure and remained elevated for the following four weeks. This translated into 8,225 more sales of the kit than expected around his announcement — surpassing the numbers from World AIDS Day by a factor of seven.

What the researchers refer to as the “Charlie Sheen effect” is an important moment in public health, and they say that in the future, internet searches can be used to pinpoint opportunities for encouraging prevention behaviors like HIV testing.

McDonald's Is Bringing the Drive-Thru to You With McDelivery

Do you ever wake up with an insane Egg McMuffin craving but know there's no way you're dragging yourself out of the house to make a McDonald's run? That's me basically every Saturday morning, torn between my desire for a greasy hangover breakfast and my reluctance to drag myself out from under the covers. But now you don't have to choose!

McDonald's is teaming up with UberEats to finally offer online ordering and delivery through the app. McDelivery, as they've cleverly dubbed it, completed testing in Florida, where there were "high levels of customer satisfaction." Duh, you're delivering fast food to people at home! Who could complain?

More: McDonald's all-day breakfast means you can now order hotcakes for dinner

McDonald's has actually experimented with delivery several times in the past, and it's usually only available in major cities through apps like DoorDash and Postmates, but this seems like their first large-scale attempt to streamline the process.

I can't wait to order in hash browns (McDonald's has literally the best hash browns on Earth and I'm not ashamed to SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS) when I'm too lazy to get dressed on the weekends, but I'm thinking this could also help late-night partygoers satisfy their munchies in a safe way too. No one will be tempted to swerve their car through the drive-thru to stock up on fries and McNuggets before continuing the party at home — instead, they can just take a ride share car home and have their snacks delivered.

More: McDonald’s "secret menu" may really exist, manager tells Reddit

McDelivery is currently available in Chicago, Los Angeles, Columbus and Phoenix with plans to roll out in other locations across the U.S. over the course of the year.

So, what are you having for dinner tonight? Because I have a feeling this exciting news has put me in the mood for an entrée that starts with "Mc" and comes with a side of fries.

10 Surefire Ways to Piss Off a Pregnant Woman

Despite what you may have heard to the contrary, pregnant women are not wild, irrational beasts who rip your head off if you so much as look at them in the wrong way. However, in the interests of your own safety, it's wise to take note of the following things that might just piss off a mom-to-be.

1. Tell her your birth story

Some people might want to hear about your 36-hour labor or your episiotomy. It's safe to assume that a pregnant woman probably doesn't.

2. Suggest baby names

Picture this: You show a friend two beautiful dresses and ask her which one you should wear to a party. In response, she pulls another dress out of her bag. It's like that, only a million times worse, because it's her baby's name.

3. Comment on her bump

Would you comment on the size of a woman's nonpregnant belly? Assuming the answer is no, because that's what all decent people would say, the same goes for a pregnant one. Perhaps it's tiny. Perhaps it's huge. She doesn't need you to tell her because she already knows.

4. Touch said bump without asking

Pregnant women are allowed to live in a bubble. Let them think about the happiness their baby is going to bring into their life. Some people love to point out how hard having a baby is. Talk about stating the obvious. Everyone knows babies are hard work — even pregnant women cooing over nursery boards on Pinterest. Please let them coo. Pregnancy can be hard enough without spending the entire time worrying about a tiny monster wrecking your home, your sanity, your sex life and your pelvic floor.

Suffering From PMS & IBS? You Need a New Morning Routine

$

Between having anxiety and irritable bowel syndrome, waking up on the first day of my period is almost unbearable. Both conditions exacerbate my symptoms — from stabbing constipation pains to picking at my cuticles more often to terrible migraines. I’ve been late to work and school before because of them, which of course, makes me even more nervous and preoccupied about being late.

According to the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, up to 15 percent of the general population struggles with IBS. Often, people aren’t diagnosed and their symptoms aren’t treated as valid medical problems.

More: Why the type of psychotherapy matters when treating IBS

Over time, I’ve personally learned the importance of morning routines. While being less “treat yourself” and flashy than other self-care routines, a morning schedule can be critical if you have IBS.

Routines can help form healthy, positive habits if practiced consistently for weeks at a time. They also have the potential to give you a boost of positive energy, especially for those who plan to fit in a morning workout.

If you want to develop a routine, but don’t have a solid one yet, take out a piece of paper and start jotting down everything you’d want to do in the morning. Ask yourself what you’d like to conquer once you wake up if you had all the time in the world. Stop once you reach 10 or 15. From there, narrow down the list to what is most important, and of that new list, choose the three with the highest priority. Finally, grab a sticky note, jot down the three items, and stick it in a visible place near your bed for when you wake up. Here are my three:

More: Diet tips to manage irritable bowel syndrome

I drink a glass of water immediately when I wake up, even before coffee

I set it aside by my bedside the night before so I don’t reach far when the sun comes up. It’s so easy and expected to rush to the coffeemaker, but a glass of water will wake you up faster and hydrate you. In fact, Time reports the best time to consume caffeine is between 10 a.m. and noon and between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. This hydrates me best, especially since caffeine triggers IBS symptoms.

I stretch my body using IBS-specific positions

Using stretches for healthy digestion from Steffy White’s IBS yoga, I curated my own morning sequence that can be done in bed. For instance, I flex my back by bringing my left leg over the other in an upright position. Another pose involves lying on my back and stretching one leg up at a time, pointing my ankles to the sky. These stretches also help with period-related cramps.

More: The not-so-new diet that can cure pooping problems

I eat a nourishing meal

Even if my stomach isn’t growling, I understand the importance of a nutritious breakfast. Until lunchtime comes around, a full belly will help you focus on your work. Lately, I’ve been into a protein-packed rice crisp cereal mixed with hazelnuts, peanuts, raisins and nondairy milk. This helps kick-start my digestive system, which is important for both IBS and menstruation.

9 Apple Cider Vinegar Beauty Benefits You're Missing Out On

In case you hadn't heard, apple cider vinegar (also lovingly referred to as ACV) is kinda the new coconut oil. All it takes to make everything right in this world is a little sprinkle of ACV — especially when it comes to beauty treatments. It's like fairy dust, we tell you.

No joke, it's kinda shocking that vinegar of all things could be the source of so much amazingness, but it really is. Hop aboard the apple cider vinegar train and give one of these a try.

1. Acne treatment

Image: Giphy

We can all agree that adult acne is something no grown woman ever wants to deal with. But for those times when something unexpected pops up in the mirror before a big event, Alexis Wolfer, founder of The Beauty Bean and author of The Recipe for Radiance: Discover Beauty's Best-Kept Secrets in Your Kitchen, swears apple cider vinegar will do the trick.

"ACV is amazing for acne! It helps to kill bacteria, reduce inflammation and helps to both prevent future breakouts and calm current ones. It does smell, so apply it sparingly or at night," she says.

But we recommend to dilute your ACV with some water before applying directly to your face. It is strong stuff and can cause burns.

2. Dandruff treatment

Jewel, a Canadian beauty blogger, breaks down one of apple cider vinegar's most surprising beauty benefits in her YouTube tutorial: ACV can be used as a natural remedy for dandruff and a dry, itchy scalp when substituted for commercial conditioner.

Wolfer agrees, saying, "If you have severe dandruff, apply ACV with a cotton ball to your scalp (section hair for access!) nightly before bed. Wash out in the morning. It will help to balance the oil on your scalp and give you healthier hair."

3. Detox bath

If you're not bathing in apple cider vinegar, you just aren't living. The Healthy Home Economist recommends an apple cider vinegar bath as a "great overall detoxifier and for muscle aches and pains brought on by physical exertion." However, Wolfer warns us not to be too heavy-handed in an ACV bath treatment. She says, "Anything more than a small amount could irritate your private parts or any cuts."

Courtney Corvan of the Courtney Corvan Skin Studio tweets a delightfully simple DIY apple cider vinegar face mask you can whip up at home: ACV plus Indian Healing Clay equals radiant skin in just 20 minutes.

"I do this all the time as a spot treatment!" says Wolfer. "It can immediately leave your skin more red because of the increased blood flow, so don't be alarmed if you are more red immediately after. Give skin time to settle down, and it will be far better than it was before."

Once you finish soothing your skin, the next stop is dry and damaged hair desperately in need of some TLC. Try Mad in Crafts' Coconut Oil Honey Hair Mask made with coconut oil, honey and apple cider vinegar. ACV helps to balance hair pH, strip styling product buildup and close hair cuticles for a silky shine. Wolfer explains, "ACV is a great natural clarifier — but like with clarifying shampoos that deeply cleanse hair of product or environmental buildup, you don't want to use them too often, otherwise it will strip hair of natural oils too."

6. Foot soak

Image: Giphy

According to Wolfer, apple cider vinegar can turn a traditional foot soak up to 11. Wolfer uses an ACV foot soak as a cooling summer beauty treatment — to reduce swelling and aid in callus removal. To soak off stubborn calluses, soak your tootsies in undiluted apple cider vinegar for up to one hour and buff smooth.

7. Nail soak

Image: Giphy

Ashamed of your weak, yellow fingernails after one too many spa manicures? A weekly soak in apple cider vinegar and vegetable oil can restore brittle nails and improve strength. For Wolfer, an ACV soak is her go-to nail treatment to remove pesky stains.

8. Natural hair rinse

Jessica Alba

In a 2014 Dr. Oz appearance, Jessica Alba swore by apple cider vinegar as a beauty treatment. Alba rinses her luscious locks once a week with diluted apple cider vinegar to remove heavy chemical product buildup. Like the apple cider vinegar hair mask that works so well to clarify hair when used in moderation, Wolfer endorses the ACV hair rinse with a big "YES!"

9. Skin toner

As if you need another reason to try ACV, ScarJo likes it too. In 2013, Scarlett Johansson unveiled apple cider vinegar as her big beauty secret, used as a toner to balance pH and give skin a healthy glow.

"It's an excellent nightly toner! You can dilute it with water or add essential oils to cut the scent if it's too aggressive for you," Wolfer says.

What Does It Actually Mean When Your Dog Gets a Random Burst of Energy?

$

0

It happens when you least expect it — your dog, seemingly out of nowhere, experiences an inexplicable surge of energy and begins darting around in wild abandon. It's hilarious to watch, but also a bit baffling. Where did this explosion of energy come from, and is it normal?

Although dogs don't necessarily have these bursts every day, they typically happen often enough to know the answer to the latter question must be yes... it is normal. However, that still leaves the question of why this happens.

More: All the Fashionable Summer Dog Collars Your Dog Definitely Needs

We can always tell when my dog, Jaws, is moments away from one of these energy surges by the crazed look he gets in his eye. He then usually lunges downward with his front paws splayed out before him and his tail waving chaotically in the air behind him.

Sometimes, he sprints around so recklessly that he runs into doorframes and walls — enough for us to worry he might hurt himself. Yet he never has, and to be honest, it looks like he's having the time of his life.

According to Animal Planet's pet expert Andrea Arden, not only is this behavior normal, but it has a name: frenetic random activity periods.

"These bursts of activity, where the dog runs around, racing from one end of a room to the other, sometimes spinning in circles and with a bit of a wild glint in their eye, usually end in a contented and exhausted flop onto the ground and are fueled by the loads of energy that most puppies and many adult dogs have," Arden explains on her website.

Arden does caution that even though FRAPs — which are called the "zoomies" colloquially — are normal, they could be indicative of boredom or insufficient stimulation. If your pup seems to be zooming all over the place at regular intervals, you probably need to find a dog park so your pooch can burn that energy off.

Dog expert Sarah Wilson agrees, saying, "If you have a fenced-in yard, get him out into it."

In fact, it was reportedly one of Wilson's clients who coined the term frenetic random activity periods, and Wilson liked it so much she stuck with it. Over the years, she has developed solid pointers for pet owners who are curious about this canine phenomenon.

More: What Coprophagia Is & How to Stop Your Dog From Doing It

In addition to ensuring you give your dog ample exercise, Wilson says you shouldn't chase your dog during FRAPs and — if at all possible — you shouldn't laugh at them either.

Why, pray tell? Well, because doing so may give your pup the impression you're praising them. Because pups love to please, they will want to continue to do anything you praise them for. Unless you're ready to watch your canine cutie careen all over the house and yard on the regular, take it easy with the kudos.

Since many dogs get the zoomies on a relatively reliable schedule, you can anticipate them coming and take your dog for a walk outside or set them up somewhere to run during those times of day. You can also stock your pup up with chew toys and other things that might thwart excessive energy.

Of course, if you're anything like me, you might just kick back and enjoy the show, and that's OK too. Your pup has to get the energy out regardless, and you have to admit, FRAPs can be pretty doggone cute.

Since You Can't Sell It, Here's What to Do With an Expired Car Seat

$

We overlook expiration dates on a lot of things, but a car seat is one expiration date that should definitely not be ignored.

There's an end date on all car seats for many reasons — most are made from plastic, and plastic tends to break down, for one — and it really is a safety measure to get rid of them when the manufacturer recommends.

But since you can't re-sell or even donate your child's old car seat for another family to use, what the heck are you supposed to do with it? Well, you actually have some really great options.

Keep your ears open for cool trade-in events

Target recently teamed with with TerraCycle for a 2-week event that allowed customers to bring in their old car seats to receive a 20 percent discount on a new one. Target and TerraCycle aim to recycle 700,000 pounds of car seat materials so they don't end up in landfills.

A Target discount and you get to help the planet? Can't beat that with a stick. No word on whether Target will run this event again, but there are other great trade-in opportunities that happen. Babies 'R' Us locations have hosted them in the past.

BabyEarthRENEW

Use your expired car seat to make a difference in the world with the BabyEarthRENEW program. Although you pay for the shipping to get your expired car seat to their facility, it's well worth the cost — BabyEarth takes apart each seat and sends the materials to developing countries, who can use the straps, buckles and other pieces for new purposes. What they can't pass on, they send to certified recycling centers. BabyEarth also accepts other broken-down baby gear, such as highchairs and bouncers.

Local children's stores and recycling centers

If neither of these are an option for you, the next step is to get on the phone to your local children's stores — consignment stores in your area, in particular, will often offer a weekend during the year when you can bring in your expired car seat, charging you a small donation that goes to a local charity for them to dispose of it properly. Most recycling centers will also take expired car seats as well. They often have requirements about how the car seat should arrive (straps and buckles removed, for example) and may charge you a small fee (less than $10) for the service.

Throw it away... safely

The last resort, when it comes to disposing of an expired car seat, is to simply throw it away. But, be sure to take some precautions before setting your expired car seat out at the curb with your weekly garbage pick-up. Cut the straps on the seat or remove them all together to insure that nobody will snag it from outside and take it home to use. Even if you take it to your local garbage center yourself, be sure to make it unusable, so that another family isn't tempted to use what probably still looks like a perfectly functioning car seat for their child.

Not even Johnny Depp can get away with lying to Ellen DeGeneres.

More: Johnny Depp's Alleged Downward Spiral Was Extremely Lavish

While appearing on her show to promote the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Depp sat in DeGeneres' hot seat answering a set of rapid-fire questions. The answers he gave were predictably eccentric because he's Johnny Depp; DeGeneres wasn't having it.

The first question: What's his favorite part of his body? After a long pause, Depp replied, "Wow. Uh. Back there."

"The back of your head?" DeGeneres asked.

"Yeah," he answered.

"Have you seen that?" she asked.

"No," he said, before changing his answer to his shoes, which he claimed he's had surgically attached to his body. OK, then. Moving on.

"Do you like your ass?" DeGeneres asked.

"Wow," Depp said again, and after another long pause, "Like it? I accept it."

It was when Depp was asked his favorite swear word that DeGeneres started to lose patience with his answers. "Ass," Depp said. "No... I'll keep it clean. Bollocks."

DeGeneres shot back, "You're not being honest. OK. What is the strangest place you've hooked up with someone?"

Depp replied, "Wow. Yeah. A car trunk. The trunk of a car."

DeGeneres was really over it by this point.

"What?" she said, as the audience laughed and cheered. "Don't even. He's not serious. There's no way!" She added, "I would ask you more, but you're not going to answer me honestly!" Depp insisted he would, so she asked him one last question: "Out of all your co-stars, who's the best kisser?"

Without skipping a beat, Depp said Javier Bardem who plays Captain Salazar in the fifth Pirates movie.

Things looked a little dicey for Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne for a hot minute there. This time last year, they were separated. News was hitting us fast about Ozzy's affair with his hairdresser and his treatment for sex addiction. Now, though, they seem to be right back on track. On Mother's Day, the Osbournes even renewed their vows after 35 years of marriage.

A source close to the couple told E! News that they held a very private ceremony at Wynn in Las Vegas, where close family members looked on during their vow renewal. "They are obviously used to doing everything in the spotlight but made a conscious decision to keep this quiet," another insider told The Sun. "It was just an intimate family get-together at the hotel with their children and very nearest and dearest there."

Sharon shared a sweet snap of herself and Ozzy together on the day of their vow renewal with the caption, "The best Mother's Day ever!"

We knew things were getting steadily better between the Osbournes, and they've both spoken out about their rough patch since it happened. Late last year, Sharon started sporting a new wedding band. During a guest co-hosting gig on Good Morning Britain, she said that things were getting much better with her family and marriage. "I'm good, I'm happy! What's not to be happy?" she said. "My husband got me a new wedding band before I left, put it on my finger before I left. Ice, ice, baby! And everybody's healthy and happy, so I'm good."

Ozzy addressed the work he was putting into their relationship prior to that, saying, "Some days are good. Some days are terrible. Some days you just drift apart for a while, but you get back on the horse."

Good for them for recognizing that even if a marriage hits a rough patch and mistakes are made, it could still be worth working to save.

An Ode to Michaela Bradshaw's Best Moments From Survivor

After what was probably the most chaotic and confusing tribal council in Survivor history, Michaela Bradshaw was eliminated from Survivor: Game Changers last night, leaving only six people to vie for the million dollar prize during next week's two-hour season finale.

How did she get voted out? Honestly, we aren't really sure. It seemed like a couple of different people, including Sarah and Tai, had targets on their backs, but after a vote-stealing coup by Cirie failed on a technicality and after an actual vote-stealing move by Sarah, Michaela was left without a flaming torch and everyone else looked mentally discombobulated.

The jury, on the other hand, looked deeply amused.

During her parting words, Michaela said she wasn't too upset about getting voted out and that she was happy she had made it so far in the game. This does not reflect our reaction to the elimination. We will deeply, deeply miss Michaela's presence on the island, even if she probably wasn't the biggest "game changer" out there.

For example, what are we going to do without her glorious shade?

Or her very weird quotes?

Or her tea-sipping antics?

She's gone from the game, but not forgotten. Let's take a look back on some of Michaela's finest moments on the island.

Tea sipping

Let's first travel back to Episode 5 when J.T couldn't complain about Michaela's coffee and sugar consumption at camp. Michaela got her sweet, sweet revenge when J.T was blindsided at tribal council. But kicking him off the show wasn't quite good enough for Bradshaw. During his removal, she unpacked a teacup and proceeded to sip some "tea" while he went. It stung a bit, but also led to what might be the best Survivor GIF ever.

More snacks!

michela survivor GIF 2

michela survivor GIF 2

Where does Michaela find all of these props on a desert island? We don't know and we don't care (although our guess is palm trees). In Episode 10, Michaela clashed with Debbie repeatedly. Debbie complained that Michaela was always eating and that she was annoying. Michaela, meanwhile, helped Sarah organize a blindside of Debbie at tribal council. As Jeff Probst read off the votes, Michaela was there in the background, eating pieces of coconut like it was popcorn. And we loved it.

Puzzle kick

Michaela is all of us when she gets frustrated at puzzle challenges. When she thought that she finished the compass puzzle in the last episode but Probst told her to try again, she responded by kicking it. And we were totally with her for that. What do puzzles have to do with wilderness survival anyway?

Just watching

michaela survivor GIF 5

The best Michaela moments are certainly when she is watching the action go down. So it was wonderful when, in Episode 10, Michaela was chosen to sit out a reward challenge. Does she give a fuck about what happens? No, she wants us to know. No, she does not.

(It's worth pointing out that in the GIF, you can see the advantage scroll sitting right next to her foot. Perhaps if she had seen the scroll instead of Sarah, she would have never been voted off last night.)

... and these GIFs don't even include the ones from past seasons.

Kesha Writes Essay About Finding Herself & Doing It in the Cruel Public Eye

Poor Kesha should have spent the last eight years being our glittery, dance music queen. Instead, she's spent them embroiled in a battle for her mental health and freedom. And now that that battle seems to be drawing to a close, she's speaking out about everything she's endured and overcome.

More: We Could Finally Get Some New Music From Kesha Soon

In an essay penned for Teen Vogue, Kesha opened up about existing online as a woman, and how the trolling and hate she experienced in that space affected her mental health and recovery from an eating disorder.

"The amount of body-shaming and baseless slut-shaming online makes me sick," she wrote. "I know from personal experience how comments can mess up somebody’s self-confidence and sense of self-worth. I have felt so unlovable after reading cruel words written by strangers who don’t know a thing about me."

More: Judge who ruled against Kesha had a huge conflict of interest with the case

Kesha continued, "It became a vicious cycle: When I compared myself to others, I would read more mean comments, which only fed my anxiety and depression. Seeing paparazzi photos of myself and the accompanying catty commentary fueled my eating disorder. The sick irony was that when I was at some of the lowest points in my life, I kept hearing how much better I looked. I knew I was destroying my body with my eating disorder, but the message I was getting was that I was doing great."

Luckily, Kesha is recovering, with the help of time, maturity and some new coping strategies, even though that means spending more time offline and off social media. "I love it because it’s how I communicate with my fans—and nothing means more to me than my fans—but too much of it can exacerbate my anxiety and depression," she wrote. "This year I made a pledge to take more breaks from social media and screens and spend more time in nature. For me, some of the most therapeutic experiences include hiking up a mountain or riding a bike by the beach. Being among animals in their natural habitats reminds me that my problems are so small. Our lives are no more significant than the lives of any other animals. We’re all just animals, after all!"

And the glitter queen even mentioned that she is working on getting some new music to her fans, who have stood behind her through all of her years of trials. It can't come soon enough.

Why the Pleasure Gap Is a Gender Equality Issue

$

0

Gone are the days when sex is exclusively thought of as penis-in-vagina intercourse concluding with a male orgasm — and that’s a really good thing. Not only is that considered a narrow definition of one type of heterosexual sex, it also perpetuates the notion that women don’t enjoy it, which is an understandable notion given that the focus used to be on the woman getting her male partner off, and she was just along for the ride.

Thankfully, things are changing, with people like Alex Fine leading the charge. As co-founder and CEO of Dame Products — whose mission is “to design well-engineered sex toys, to heighten intimacy, and to openly empower the sexual experiences of womankind” — her goal is eliminating the pleasure gap (more on that later).

More: One-of-a-Kind Vibrator for Couples Will Change Sex Forever

“I’ve always been interested the issue of sexuality — as an outspoken person, my sexuality definitely impacted my experience growing up, and I had a lot of indignation about it,” she tells SheKnows.

For example, she would get really frustrated with the way women were perceived if they were considered sexual.

“Then that kind of transitioned kind of into ‘Great, I am a liberated woman and can go out and have sex with all these people, but it’s not necessarily good sex,’” she explains.

After spending a lot of time thinking about the company she wanted to start, Fine decided that it should involve sexuality and relationships and sex toys.

While you typically hear the term “orgasm gap” thrown around, Fine prefers the term “pleasure gap” because it is a “better, more accurate and holistic way of describing the issue at hand.”

“Men are twice as likely to orgasm than women, and that’s certainly a gap, but we feel like that oversimplifies it,” Fine explains.

More: This Sex Toy Company Founder Wants Women to Come First (Literally)

For starters, it’s a little easier to definitely say, “Yes, I’ve had an orgasm,” — it either happens or it doesn’t. For Fine, sex is more nuanced than whether or not you came.

“We feel like an orgasm as the goal of sex Is a very male perspective,” she says. “We wanted to be more inclusive of that. Some women have trouble having an orgasm, but still have a lot of sexual pleasure — and that’s great too.”

The concept of the pleasure gap is a frequent topic of conversation at Dame Products according to Fine.

“Orgasms are really important and you should try and have an orgasm, but we also know that being goal-oriented when it comes to sex can be really detrimental in actually having pleasure,” she says.

And no, this isn’t about getting rid of men or putting their sexual pleasure on the back burner (as if they’d let that happen!). Fine says that including a woman’s partner’s perspective — regardless of gender — is important because no matter how great a sex toy is for you, if your partner isn’t into it, you’re not going to use it.

“If we can make a toy that improves her experience without taking anything away from his experience — or adds something — that’s our goal,” she explains. “We don’t just ask the person with the vulva if it enjoyed it, we also asked the partner about the experience.”

Right now, Dame has two products out: Eva, a hands-free device designed to be used with a partner, and Fin, which acts like a natural extension of your fingers and can be used by yourself or with others.

So why does this matter, and is the pleasure gap really a women’s rights issue?

According to Fine, it is. The more we talk about the confidence gap and the wage gap, the more it primes the conversation for addressing pleasure, which she says is a bigger gap.

More: Orgasms Are Most Elusive for Straight Women

“If you look at gender politics, one of the biggest ways we have in equality is when we see society — men and women — put a lot of regulation and cultural rules around female sexuality,” she explains. “If you are a sexually liberated — feeling confident in your body and your own skin — and know what you like, then I feel like you’re so much better equipped to handle everything else in life.”

So where do vibrators come into the picture?

When it comes to narrowing the pleasure gap, Fine thinks that sex toys are part of the equation. “It’s not that sex toys are going to solve it all,” she says. “We need to talk about it and feel comfortable with using sex toys when we want to use them.”

This Warning About Aerosol Sunscreens Is One Every Mom Needs to Know

There's nothing worse than a sunscreen fail — except when it happens to your child.

Rebecca Cannon did everything right to protect her 14-month-old, Kyla, from the sun. She used an aerosol sunscreen, and the label clearly said the spray was safe for any child 6 months of age and older. No problem, right?

More: A whopping 80 percent of sunscreens aren't doing their job

Cannon also followed the instructions for facial application: apply the sunblock first to hands, and then onto forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Kyla was protected from the sun — Cannon was sure of it — but she kept her daughter out of the direct sunlight anyway.

So imagine Cannon's horror when Kyla suffered an excruciating sunburn on her face and needed hospital care. She posted graphic photos of her daughter's terrible burns on Facebook to warn other parents about the dangers of using aerosol sunblock on kids.

The sunscreen, for reference, was Banana Boat SPF Broad Spectrum Kids' Sunscreen. Cannon said the company has offered reimbursement for the product, but beyond that seems unwilling to take any further action. That sounds pretty shady to us.

We came across this link to the safest sunscreens for kids (and babies!), and believe us, we're going to keep it on hand this summer.

Kyla's burns are fortunately healing. Cannon says her little girl is "looking better every day." But still, it never, ever should have happened in the first place.
