The One Drugstore Retinol We’re Obsessed With

$

By now, you’ve seen approximately one billion articles and commercials telling you to start using a retinol ASAP, lest your face shrivel into a raisin by the time you hit 45. And, honestly, we’re here to tell you the same thing, because retinoids (the umbrella term for all vitamin-A derivatives, including retinol) seriously, truly work. Unlike most products that just hang out on your skin to give you temporary results, retinols sink in and start triggering cell turnover and increasing collagen production for newer, fresher skin. Awesome, right?

Annoyingly, there are so many retinoids from so many brands in so many forms that the sheer number of options straight-up overwhelm people, resulting in total confusion and avoidance. So instead of giving you a roundup of our favorites from across the spectrum, we’re giving you just one: Our favorite drugstore retinol that won’t cost you a zillion dollars or melt your skin off. Yes, your life is about to be get a whole lot easier.

Trust us when we say we’ve tried almost every retinol on the market. We’ve slathered them on our faces until the skin around our eyes peeled in sheets and our cheeks felt like they were burning from the inside (note: don’t do what we did). But through it all, one winning retinol stood out from the crowd: L'Oréal Paris Bright Reveal Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturizer.

Image: L'Oréal

What? A moisturizer? Yes, a moisturizer. Well, a retinol-moisturizer hybrid. And before you wag your finger at us for trying to sell you on another night cream, hold up: This moisturizer—which comes in a dual-chambered pump, so no risk for bacteria growth or destabilization—is formulated with retinyl palmitate (one of the gentler retinoids), glycolic acid (a liquid exfoliant that slowly smooths skin and unclogs pores), and vitamin C (a skin-brightening and wrinkle-preventing antioxidant), so it not only hydrates skin, but also works to fade age spots, dark marks, acne scars, and dull, uneven skin tones. Plus, its consistency makes it practically goof-proof to apply (just massage it in as you would your normal nighttime moisturizer), so you don’t need to worry about going overboard and drying out your skin.

No, you won’t see results overnight, but that’s true of any retinol. Because your skin cells turn over every 5 to 7 weeks, it’ll take a few cycles before you see noticeable differences (think three months minimum), and you’ll need to use it consistently for it to work. If you have super-sensitive skin and are scared of flakes, start by applying the moisturizer every third day for three weeks straight, then every other day for two weeks, and then continue to use it every night for, well, the rest of your life (hey, nobody said staying young was easy). Now go forth into this world, a fresh-faced adult with a new mastery over retinols. Knowledge looks good on you.

Why You Need to Put Yourself First (Before Your Kids!)

In 2014, ABC lifestyle editor Genevieve Shaw Brown tried something radical. She decided that she would eat as well as her children did. After months of waking up early to fix her small children healthy meals while neglecting her own nutrition, Brown opted to treat herself as well as she treated her children, only to find that she liked the experience. The notion of a mother making her own care as important as her children’s is what turned into the new book The Happiest Mommy You Know: Why Putting Your Kids First Is the Last Thing You Should Do. I caught up with the mother on what she learned about taking care of herself (ironically, while she was on her way to drop off some pizza for an event at her 5-year-old daughter’s school.)

SheKnows: In the book, exercise is a form of self-care for you, but some women consider working out more of a chore than a luxury.

Genevieve Shaw Brown: For me, it served a couple of different purposes. The first was getting exercise, which I wasn’t doing. But the second was giving myself time away from the kids, which I needed, and the third one was using it as an opportunity not just to feel physically better, but to feel mentally better.

SK: Why did you need to get away from your kids?

GB: I was just completely and totally wrapped up in their lives, wanting to know exactly what they were doing at all times of day. It occurred to me that when I came back to them [after spending time away], I was always more grateful for them, always more patient with them. I was able to sit back and look at the wonders of having little kids and appreciate the things they say and they do. When you're with them 24/7 they really get lost in between filling water cups and snack time.

SK: Maternal guilt is so prevalent. I’m less of a guilty mom than you were at the beginning of the book, but then that morphs into me thinking “Maybe there is something wrong with me if I’m such an independent mom.”

GB: Thus creating problems where problems don’t exist. I don’t know why we do it. Like, if I think about not volunteering at the school for some reason, I start worrying about how that might negatively affect my daughter when she has never mentioned it either way. You conjure up these things in your head that you’re not enough, you’re not doing enough.

SK: What’s the last thing you did just for yourself?

I went to a spin class last Wednesday. A mom friend is teaching the class and she invited me. It was sort of a mom playdate with exercise. It was fantastic.

More: Why I've Vowed to Make Myself a Priority in My Life

SK: They say that people who study medicine sometimes become hypochondriacs. How do you, as someone who covers parenting news, avoid second-guessing your parenting after all the trends and studies and fads you encounter?

I avoid it by being a lot more confident than I used to be. I used to read a lot more parenting books than I do now because I was kind of looking for whatever my style was going to be. Then, once I started on this journey, I decided that somebody else’s style wasn’t going to suit me. I realized that a lot of stories on social media are just kind of hyped up — someone’s Facebook post has gone viral. I just take a step back because what’s fine for somebody else is not necessarily fine for me.

Goodbye ‘Girls’: What to Expect (Fashion-Wise) from Season 6

It’s hard to remember a time before Girls, before life as a twenty-something navigating the real world was so honestly depicted on the small screen. Nearly five years ago, Lena Dunham rose to the occasion, appointing herself “the voice of her generation” in the pilot episode. As we enter into the sixth and final season, and the girls jump into the next chapter of their lives, it’s safe to say the creator-writer-star accomplished what she set out to do. And no matter how uncomfortable her character’s fashion choices—or sex scenes—have made you feel, you can’t deny how well the controversial series nailed the beautiful uncertainty plaguing young adults today. So we chatted with the series’ costume designer, Jenn Rogien, to get the 411 on what you can expect in terms of fashion from the four famous girls in their last season ever.

Before we dive into the interview, a bit about this season’s plot: Since we last briefed you, we’ve learned a bit more about what the future has in store for our favorite millennials. Last night, season six premiered on HBO, and though we can’t say how the series will end—that’s between Dunham, the cast and crew, and God—we have a few hints. We know Dunham’s character, Hannah, is writing again; we know she and BFF Jessa (Jemima Kirke) are feuding (and reconciling) as Jessa continues to defend her relationship with Hannah’s ex Adam (Adam Driver); we know Marnie (Allison Williams) is still struggling with her relationships; we know Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) is fresh from Japan and back in action. But—what about what they’ll be wearing?

That’s where Rogien comes in. Ahead, find out how she thinks the four actresses’ wardrobes have evolved on the show, her all-time favorite fashion choices for Hannah, Jessa, Marnie, and Shosh, and what item defines each girl.

StyleCaster: What will you miss the most?

Jenn Rogien: “I’m going to really miss the creative energy of the show. It had chemistry like no other job that I’ve been on. Because we’re all freelancers, a lot of us planned our freelance gigs [and] our calendars around going back to Girls to make sure that we could be there for all six seasons. And that’s not necessarily doable, you know, scheduling is so erratic into production that to make a point of it, I think, is a huge compliment to Lena and [producers] Jenni [Konner] and Judd [Apatow], and just the creative atmosphere that the show created for its family.”

Did you feel pressure to create especially memorable looks to send off the show?

“It crossed my mind, to be honest. But when I got the script, there was so much on the page that that thought faded. It was about telling the story [about] these characters in the moment, and these moments were like the other moments—they were the girls, they were up to their normal hijinks.

[My goal] then was to really focus on what was happening to them within the stories of every episode and not be as pulled into creating something bigger than what it should have been. It tied into my focus of the show all along, which was to stay true to the characters and not let negative comments on the internet necessarily feed into how we were dressing the girls or not let the popularity of some of the individual looks influence the rest of the season, depending on what we were shooting. So it really was about maintaining a focus on character work, which I think is then true for all six seasons.”

Girls season 6
Image: @lenadunham/Instagram

There’s definitely more of a realness to the girls that is absent from other shows. What’s the key to executing some of the more unflattering looks?

“I’ve heard the look of the show described as ‘hyper-realistic’—those were not my words, but I think it’s a really apt way to describe what we were going for. Part of that started in season one, before the show had aired, and I was literally just trying to be true to what the girls were going through that season: They had no jobs, they had no money, maybe they had stuff leftover from college, maybe they were shopping in thrift stores, maybe they were shopping in H&M and Zara.

[I was] just trying to imagine where the girls might really shop if they were real people [who] lived in Brooklyn and didn’t come from tons of money. Every season, I would renew my commitment to staying true to their circumstances, and that didn’t necessarily mean doing the same thing we were doing in season one; it meant really reading the scripts, reading between the lines, talking with Lena, Jenni and my girls, and trying to make choices that were right for that moment, that place in their story.”

Girls season 6 fashion
Image: @lenadunham/Instagram

How would you say their wardrobes have evolved, and how will they continue to evolve?

“I got to go through and pull an archive for HBO for the series, so I went back through every single costume from the show, and it was a trip, honestly. As different as the clothes are from season one to six, they’re still a bit the same; you can still see Hannah in her closet, you can still see Marni in her closet, you can still see Shoshanna and Jessa in their closets.

Hannah’s always a little too bright, the patterns are a little too loud, and the fit is still off. And, certainly, her clothing grew up along with her for the series, but there are always some things that are true about her wardrobe—the color and the pattern and the mismatch. Marni went from super faux-tailored business wear to super-bohemian music wear, but there was always a little bit too much. She was always overshooting just a little bit, and that stayed true throughout the six seasons. Ironically, Jessa’s the one who got streamlined and sort of distilled in a way throughout the seasons. She started out as over-the-top and very dramatic and [in] crazy silhouettes, and then by the end she was sort of stripped down to the essentials in vintage jeans, a T-shirt, and a pair of boots. It was really interesting to watch those transitions happen in photos—obviously they were deliberate transitions as we were producing the show and shooting, but to see them all in sort of a slideshow as I was going through for the archives really highlighted the evolution of the girls throughout the seasons.”

Girls season 6
Image: @lenadunham/Instagram

Looking back at those looks, do you have a favorite for each of the girls?

“It’s so funny because a lot of times the looks I end up loving are not the looks that jump off the screen. There are some behind-the-scenes moments that made it really interesting for me or something that happened that made it challenging—those kinds of things stick out in my mind.

I think of Hannah: She ends up Jell-O wrestling at a backyard house party, so we picked a dress that the blue Jell-O would really show up on. It was a white dress with a black print, and it was so iconic visually that you could tell she started in a white dress. What we didn’t realize is that the dye in the fake Jell-o actually turned the dress blue, so we had to do all these things behind the scenes to make sure that in continuity the dress looked the same. Just those kinds of things that [are] not that big of a deal—it’s not significant on screen at all, but to me it was a really fun costume moment.”

Girls Season 6 gif

Since there is so much collaboration between you and each of the girls, how would you say their personal style influenced their characters’ wardrobes?

“The girls are so different from their characters that I don’t know that there is any crossover, and, in fact, when the girls come to work I rarely see them until they’re in costume. It actually took me a while to realize that they’re so incredibly different, that there isn’t any bleed over … There are always those pieces that resonate but that you can tell are right for character and wrong for the human, or right for the human and wrong for the character. That’s the brilliant thing about the girls: They’re amazing actresses, and the fact that you can’t tell the difference is a huge compliment to their work and skills as character actors.”

Girls final season
Image: @aw/Instagram

Looking ahead to the next chapter of their lives, what is one defining item that each of the girls will need to carry into her future?

“Hannah’s is her work bag, or her school bag. And it’s something that we handled throughout the series; she started with a very collegiate, canvas-and-leather satchel-tote-bag thing, and by the end she was in a lovely sky-blue suede tote, and it’s always big enough to fit her laptop, her notebook, and her odds and ends. That’s the thing that will always be with her, her writing bag.

I feel like with Marnie it was always about her rings because you see so much of her hands, whether she’s playing her guitar or music, or working with her headphones. She wore a series of rings over the course of the season, and, for me, there was always something about the rings that she was wearing that said a lot about how she was feeling—sometimes she was wearing a ton, sometimes she was wearing none, and I sort of use that as a tool to help convey where she was at. Then, now, and future, rings are always important to Marnie.

With Shoshanna, it’s her loungewear. If there’s one thing Shoshanna always had a great closet full of, it was loungewear. Whether it was the infamous Juicy Couture suit—which I did not do actually, I did not do the pilot—her crazy Japanese pajamas, or her shredded sweaters toward the end when you could literally see that she was unraveling, I think Shoshanna is an expert at loungewear and that will be true going forward.

And then with Jessa, I think it’s vintage—vintage and a great white dress. That’s something that I maintained throughout the series, starting in season one where she wore a couple of different white dresses, including her wedding dress, and then almost every season after that she wore some form of a long, white dress. [This season] it ended up being a white blouse. It’s sort of a palette cleanser for her, and a lot of the times it’s vintage. I think that’s something that’s very important to her character in the series and going forward.”

Cast of Girls
Image: @aw/Instagram

What style (or life) lessons have the girls learned thus far and still have yet to learn?

“Wow, [‘life lessons’] would be a better question for Lena, Jenni, and Judd than for me. I’ll stick to the style standpoint: Hannah has come a long way in realizing how to dress for the context she’s in, but she has a lot to learn about fit and [using] an iron. Marnie has come such a long way in dressing to express herself, but she has a lot to learn about being comfortable in her clothing and not quite overshooting the mark.

Jessa’s a hard one. Jessa has come such a long way from her crazy, over-the-top, high-end vintage look and has learned so much about using or not using her clothing as armor, but I think she still has a lot to figure out on that same front—she’s got a long way to go. I think Jessa’s definitely used her clothing as armor the most. And Shoshanna has definitely come a long way from the girly, confectionary look that she started [with] in season one, and I think she still has a lot to learn about dressing for her context.”

7 Pregnancy Hacks I Really Wish Someone Had Shared With Me

$

I always associated pregnancy with the “glow.” You know, the flawless skin, the beautifully thick and shiny hair and the adorable little belly. What I came to realize was that pregnancy is a lot harder… a lot harder.

Even though during my pregnancy I never got the perfect skin or the tiny belly (yeah, I got huge), I did learn some tricks that helped make pregnancy a little bit easier. So, here are my seven tips for surviving pregnancy.

1. Have a bag of Cheerios with you always

Cheerios helped me with morning sickness so much. I was really nauseous throughout my pregnancy, and my OB-GYN told me this little secret. That first trimester, I promise you, I was never without my little Ziploc bag of Cheerios.

Honestly, I’m surprised my baby didn’t come out looking like a giant Cheerio given how many I ate, especially those first few months.

More: There's nothing like pregnancy to make losing health insurance terrifying

2. Get prenatal massages

If you can, try and get a monthly prenatal massage. There are licensed professionals that are specifically trained in giving prenatal massages, and they know exactly what areas need to be worked on. I had really bad lower back pain during my pregnancy, and I always felt like a new woman after I left the massage place.

3. Buy a body pillow

I waited until three weeks before my due date before I bought one. Once I bought it, I realized how ridiculous I had been for not getting one from the very beginning of my pregnancy. It would have helped with so many of those sleepless nights! So please, for my sake, get yourself a body pillow.

4. Take a nap

Nap a lot. Your body is growing a tiny human, and it is absolutely exhausting! On days when you can’t take a nap, try going to bed extra early. The key is to get as much rest as you can.

More: A roundup of all the ways your health rights have been jeopardized this week

5. Hydrate

Go buy yourself one of those cute little Tervis cups and drink a lot of water. Dehydration can actually lead to premature labor, so make sure you are constantly refilling your cup with water. Pregnant women should drink 12 to 13 (8-ounce) cups of water every day.

6. Buy yourself some cute maternity clothes

When I was pregnant, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on cute clothes. I mainly just wore gym shorts and huge T-shirts.

However, I did invest in a couple of really cute outfits. Near the end of my pregnancy, when my belly resembled a hot-air balloon and my swollen ankles looked more like tree stumps, it felt nice to be able to wear at least one nice outfit.

7. Beware of the internet

I’m a researcher at heart. If I feel the tiniest twitch, you better believe that I am researching all of the possibilities. During pregnancy, however, it can be dangerous to look up stuff online. Your body is going through so many changes, and you can really psych yourself out if you are constantly looking up all of the possible things that could go wrong during pregnancy.

More: Last night’s Senate Obamacare repeal vote was terrible for women

Try to relax. Yes, be informed, but don’t feel the need to look up all of the diseases that you could contract.

Overall, just enjoy pregnancy. I know that it can be awkward sometimes, but learn to laugh about it. I peed myself (like, completely emptied my bladder) in the middle of Bed Bath & Beyond. Yes, it was awkward. Yes, I felt like a 2-year-old instead of a grown woman. Yes, at the time I wanted to die; however, I had to learn to laugh about it.

You are going to have a lot of very weird things happen to you during pregnancy. You may as well try to enjoy them!

Angelina Jolie is Still The Ultimate Hollywood Mom Despite Divorce

Angelina Jolie went from the woman who wears blood around her neck to Hollywood humanitarian to the villain in her divorce with Brad Pitt and, somehow, all of these descriptions just end up feeling entirely unfair. They don't serve to showcase the real Jolie, which is a woman, I think, who hides behind the curtain of her fame, carefully showing the public little snippets when necessary to protect herself and her loved ones.

More: While Angelina Jolie Seeks World Domination, Brad Pitt Delivers Balloons

Such seems to be the case throughout her divorce with Brad Pitt. And, after being run through the mud for months following her divorce announcement, Jolie is finally opening up about the hardships she's faced and how she's handling the breakup.

"I don't want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time," a visibly emotional Jolie said in a new interview with BBC World News. "We are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it."

She added, "My focus is my children, our children, and my focus is finding this way through. We are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer."

More: Zahara Jolie-Pitt's Birth Mom is Begging Angelina Jolie For A New Arrangement

This is a common answer amongst those A-listers in the midst of divorce: The focus is on the kids. For Jolie, this seems to be the most genuine answer she could possibly give. Her focus ever since adopting Maddox, her first child, has been on her children. And she was a mother before she was with Pitt. He became an official part of the family only after Jolie had brought her two children, Maddox and Zahara, into her world.

Given this history with her children, it only makes sense that Jolie's description as "mom" seems the most apt.

"Right now, I'm going through a moment when just everybody's in my room," Jolie revealed in her BBC interview.

"Two hamsters, two dogs and two children at the moment. It's wonderful. But, usually, I just wake up trying to figure out who's going to get [the] dog out, who's going to start the pancakes and did anybody brush their teeth."

More: Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt's Divorce Gets Some #WhitePeopleProblems

That vision of Jolie is hard to wrap my mind around for some reason. Probably because I still see her as the action hero of her Tomb Raider days. Yet, given everything we know about Jolie, the woman who enjoys spending her days tending to the needs of her family is probably more closer to the truth than anything people could ever write about in magazines. That woman wouldn't sell tabloids, and that's probably just how Jolie likes it.

Do you think Jolie has been unfairly treated by the news and Internet?

Chelsea Clinton Just Became Our Favorite Donald Trump Troll

Oops, Donald Trump's administration did it again. Which, thanks to Britney Spears, is the perfect line to describe how the White House royally messed up yet another statement when Trump flat-out incorrectly stated that Sweden was the victim of a recent terror attack.

More: Oprah Winfrey Might Actually Have a Plan to Take Donald Trump Down

"We’ve got to keep our country safe," Trump said at a rally in Florida on Saturday. "You look at what’s happening in Germany. You look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this?"

Who would believe what? Last night in Sweden? Huh?

Yup, it's totally OK that you're confused, because so was the rest of the world. The last time Sweden had an official terrorist attack was 2010. It's still unclear what, exactly, Trump was talking about when he referenced Sweden, but the internet was quick to point out the folly.

Not even Chelsea Clinton could remain silent about this one, and she had probably one of the best comebacks to the president's statement.

In case you missed it, the Bowling Green Massacre is another Trump administration goof/lie. Kellyanne Conway used the "Bowling Green Massacre" to defend Trump's immigration ban. There never was a massacre at Bowling Green.

Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, believe it or not, was even more direct than Clinton, accusing Trump of drug use to explain his lack of knowledge about world news.

Look, there's the fact that no one is perfect and then there's just flat-out making up facts to support an even more made-up story that terror abounds and the world is doomed. Fearmongering is not the way to create effective and lasting change. The only terror that seems to be abounding in our country right now is Trump's presidency thus far.

The Walking Dead's Daryl and Carol Together Again Hurts So Good

I love a good reunion, don't you? And when it comes to The Walking Dead, there's no reunion we've been anticipating more than that of everyone's favorite dystopian BFFs, Daryl and Carol.

More: The Walking Dead Season 7B Just Delivered the Best Walker Kill Yet

But before we get into the feel-good stuff, let me take a minute to warn you: We're venturing into spoiler territory here. There will be pertinent plot point discussion about "New Best Friends" in 3... 2... 1....

OK, let's do the damn thing.

As the title of the episode would suggest, this week's Walking Dead was all about building relationships. Of course, this is the zombpocalypse, so that process isn't always as pretty as one might imagine. It's not like our world, where you might sense a friend-spark with someone, ask them to kick it with you over some tacos or fro-yo and — bam! — you're besties.

Stepbrothers
Image: Giphy

In TWD world, real friendships are forged in the fire. Anything less is merely an alliance. This week, there was a little bit of both going on.

For starters, when we last saw Rick and the gang, they were surrounded by a ragtag crew of survivors who most certainly weren't giving off a friend vibe. Just when it seems like Rick is making headway with the "Heapsters" leader, Jadis, the little jackalope pushes him down a trash mountain into a pit with a spiky death walker named Winslow.

More: Bring It, Negan! The Walking Dead May Have Just Revealed Its Secret Weapon

Naturally, Rick badasses his way out of the situation (with an assist from Michonne), and the Heapsters seem ready to strike a deal and join the rebellion. But, c'mon, can we really trust the chick who just chucked Rick into the Hoarders version of the Roman Coliseum?

We're filing her in the frenemy category for the time being.

The big friend development to come out of that whole sticky situation was none other than Gabriel, the prodigal Father, becoming one of Rick's new right-hand men. It took a hot minute, but ol' Father Gabe has earned his salvation.

Enough of that, though, 'cause the friend-union that we're all dying to talk about is the one between Daryl and Carol, right?

First, Daryl saves Carol's life when he learns of Richard's plan to sacrifice her in order to drive the Kingdom into war with the Saviors. Seriously, Dick, consult with someone before you set these things in motion, will ya?

Then Daryl finds his way to Carol's secret cabin and knocks on her door. The look on her face — on both of their faces — when she opens the door? Gah! It was totally gutting. I'm all up in my emotions over this reunion, and it makes me feel like I need to go yell at some baby kittens or something. This is the zombpocalypse, Julie. Pull it together.

A League of Their Own
Image: Giphy

Still, you've gotta admit it was an awfully touching moment when Daryl finally asks Carol why she left them in the first place. And even more so when he hears her out and understands exactly what she means when she explains that there would be nothing left of her if she kept killing.

Of course, that was all child's play emotionally compared to the moment when Carol asks Daryl if everyone "back at home" is OK. NO, CAROL, THEY'RE NOT. I AM NOT — ER, I MEAN, EVERYONE IS NOT OK. *cue hysterical woman-baby tears*

More: Do New Photos From The Walking Dead Reveal Who's Wearing the Boots?

Carol didn't know the truth about Glenn and Abe and, well, she still doesn't after this week's episode. Why? Because, once again, Daryl did what he had to do to protect and honor his friend: He lied to her to save her the pain and to keep her from losing herself in the din of war.

So, they eat dinner together, and then Daryl leaves after one more fierce embrace. It's the happiest/saddest five minutes of television any of us will likely watch all week... and we're total masochists because we want more.

What do you think? Will Carol eventually join the Resistance?

Everyone Basically Hates Lifetime's Britney Spears Biopic

Lifetime's Britney Spears biopic was even more of a hot mess than Spears mid head shave.

More: NSYNC Is Reuniting, I Repeat, NSYNC Is Reuniting

It seems the only person who has yet to comment on the meme-worthy movie that was Lifetime's Britney Ever After is Britney Spears herself.

Everyone else on the planet, including some Hollywood A-listers, are still picking their mouths up off the floor after the biopic premiered last night.

First of all, the movie didn't secure any of the rights to Spears' music, which means there weren't any Britney songs in the Britney biopic. The time period was also a disaster with iPhones and flat screen TVs all over the place. The character portrayals were really off from Justin Timberlake to Spears herself. And the outfits didn't reflect any of Spears' iconic moments even a little bit.

It's one thing to showcase a celebrity's rise to fame, her struggles and her eventual comeback. It's another to throw facts and realism out the window for the sake of some Hollywood story that is based in rumor and tabloid gossip. It's worse than distasteful. As some tweeters said above, it's so dirty that even viewers walked away feeling tarnished.

John Oliver's Techno Number Is Exactly What Late Night Television Needs

There are many things to love about Last Week Tonight: hard-hitting political commentary, British wit and outreach efforts related to issues highlighted on the show. Now, we can add catchy tunes to the list!

More: John Oliver Has a Great Plan For Educating President Trump

During the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver continued to skewer Donald Trump for his administration's long, long list of shortcomings. Of particular interest was Trump's concerning relationship with Vladimir Putin, and why it's not really a good idea to be buddy-buddy with Russia these days.

Putin Song

Oliver's usual in-depth research and clever humor would have been more than enough to keep us informed and entertained, but he stepped it up with a hilarious musical number about Putin. And no, we're not talking about he typical Broadway-inspired performance we've seen on so many late night political shows. This time, Oliver and his team pulled out all the stops with techno music.Looking for something new to add to your workout playlist? Look no further — the latest John Oliver song is perfect!

More: John Oliver Is Mad As Hell at Credit Reporters

Oliver's techno masterpiece (named A Man Like Putin) included hilarious visual effects, lots of dancing and a surprisingly catchy melody. The lyrics included such memorable tidbits as, "A man like Putin only wants power, he'll fake a tape of your golden shower."

A Man Like Putin

A Man Like Putin

The song also offered a new reason why journalists such as Oliver best be wary during a Trump administration: "Critics like Oliver better run far, because he'll track you down and he'll shit on your car."

More: Why John Oliver Compared Schools to a Tyler Perry Movie

This is all part of Oliver's efforts to package information in a way that might actually make sense to Donald Trump and his ilk. Last week, it was all about short, easily digestible advertisements for cable news (where, as you may recall, Trump seems to obtain the majority of his often incorrect information). This week, song and dance is the preferred form of communication.

It's great to see John Oliver mixing things up. The world can use more silly techno music in these troubling times. We can't wait to see what John Oliver and the team at Last Week Tonight delivers next!

Angelina Jolie Stays Strong While Discussing Her Divorce From Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie is having a truly heartfelt time in Cambodia and for a couple of major reasons.

More: Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Release Their First Joint Statement Since the Split

While promoting her fifth film and directorial effort, First They Killed My Father, Jolie opened up about her split from Brad Pitt. Jolie, typically a private person, relinquished a few details about her life without her former partner of 12 years while discussing her film. Heartbreakingly, reports indicate that Jolie may still be feeling hurt by the entire process.

During an interview with BBC reporter Yalda Hakim, Hakim posed this question to Jolie about the split: "Your film is about family and loss. I understand this is a very sensitive issue. We know that an incident occurred which led to your separation, we also know you haven't said anything about this, but would you like to say something?"

Jolie appeared to not be eager to answer the question, as she allegedly took a moment to think before answering. "I don’t want to say very much about [the incident] except to say that it was a very difficult time and we are a family. And we’ll always be a family. And we’ll get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it."

More: Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Have Come to a Temporary Decision Regarding Custody

It was all Jolie said on the matter, yet it would see that she has already said quite a lot. The announcement of her divorce from Pitt shocked fans and the details regarding the cause of the split invited even more shock. While allegations of Pitt's substance abuse and anger issues flooded the news, Jolie and her children retreated from the public eye to heal.

In January 2017, Pitt and Jolie released a joint statement in an effort to dispel rumors that the divorce proceedings were anything less than civil: "The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues. The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification."

There are the typical allergies like those to peanuts, wheat, dairy and even strawberries. And then there are the lesser-known allergies — like semen. This affliction affects both males and females. While hypersensitivity to semen isn’t common, it’s actually not as rare as you may believe. Some experts believe that up to 12 percent of women are affected by the allergy.

More: Last night’s Senate Obamacare repeal vote was terrible for women

So, what are the symptoms? Some men reported to experience things such as fatigue, rashes and difficulty concentrating after sex. Women experienced indicators such as irritation on the vaginal region and rashes as less serious side effects of the allergy, while one of the more deadly symptoms that some women experienced is asphyxiation.

Dean McDermott's Ex Is Furious Over Tori Spelling's Lavish Baby Shower

With their constant barrage of money problems, you'd think Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott would be keeping a low profile these days. Instead, they celebrated their fifth pregnancy by throwing a baby shower that cost more than some college educations.

More: Tori Spelling Just Got Sued for Not Paying Her Bills Again

And that move sparked some serious drama between McDermott and his ex-wife, Mary Jo Eustace, who claims he owes her thousands in child support, and thus was not too pleased to read about him hosting a lavish party at the Hotel Bel-Air with a five-figure price tag.

Granted, reports are saying that it was Spelling's mom, Candy, who dropped all the dough for the baby shower, so Eustace can't technically hold that against McDermott. But like that would stop her. Page Six reports that she's taking him to court next month over their child support dispute, saying he's in contempt of court for failing to make the payments for their son Jack. Court records show that McDermott is due in court on March 9.

More: Can Tori Spelling Become the New Martha Stewart?

While McDermott and Spelling's money troubles have been well-documented, Candy, who reportedly paid for the party, has plenty of cash from the death of her husband, TV mogul Aaron Spelling, who was reportedly worth $600 million when he died.

McDermott and Spelling, on the other hand, were sued by American Express late last year over more than $87,500 in unpaid bills, and had a lien placed on them in 2014 for $259,000 in unpaid taxes. Despite those highly publicized money woes, Spelling has continued to insist that her family is not struggling financially, even though she wrote in her 2013 book, Spelling It Like It Is, that they were.

"It was one chapter," she told People magazine. "I thought I was being relatable, talking about how celebrities go through financial struggles, too, we make mistakes, too."

Leah Remini Says Tom Cruise Could Be the End of Scientology

Leah Remini is still trying to drive home her point about Tom Cruise's crazy amount of power in the Church of Scientology. Just after claiming in an interview that both Cruise and John Travolta, who is also a high-ranking member of the church, could literally get away with killing people, Remini is now claiming that Cruise has the power to bring about an end to Scientology... if he wanted to.

More: The Scientologists All Voted for Trump, But Not Because They Were Forced To

Remini appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday, where she discussed her A&E docuseries and the fact that Cruise could "single-handedly" cause the Church of Scientology to topple.

"He could end this. Correct," Remini said when asked by Maher if Cruise has that power. "Because they are saying he single-handedly is clearing the planet, is changing the planet, so most Scientologists believe."

"Clearing the planet" is the process by which Scientologists believe their members are killing "body thetans," or aliens that inhabit the planet and cause humans to have negative feelings like doubt and unhappiness.

More: 7 New Accusations That Could Bring Scientology Crashing Down

But even though Cruise apparently has the power to cause Scientology to end, Remini doesn't see why he would — she stressed that the church views him as a "messiah," and that it often bends its strict rules to accommodate his wants.

"That was part of the hypocrisy," she added.

Even when Cruise fails, like when his 2016 film Jack Reacher was a box-office flop, Remini said the church believes it's because he's being inundated with bad energy from people like her, who are fighting Scientology.

"Scientologists believe that if he didn’t make it a hit, it was because there were suppressive, evil people working against him, because he’s winning in life and clearing the planet," she said.

Lindsay Lohan Really Wants to Ruin Star In The Little Mermaid

Hello, readers, from me, Christina, a person with a butt-ton of very frizzy bright red hair.

Lindsay Lohan wants to play Ariel in Little Mermaid 1

More: Lindsay Lohan's Instagram Has Been Replaced by a Muslim Message

When you have naturally red hair, people seem to think it makes it OK for them to do certain really annoying things. Women constantly grab strands of your hair, hold them up to the light and exclaim about how people pay all of the money to get that hair color and so you should never, ever complain about anything in your life because you couldn't possibly have problems because you have naturally red hair. Men, particularly in places where alcohol is served and/or on the middle school basketball court, ask if the carpet matches the drapes.

Image: Giphy

As a relatively well-adjusted adult, I find myself able to brush these things off as minor annoyances. But as an incredibly shy child, they pretty much ruined my life on the regular.

Enter Ariel from The Little Mermaid, who was a strong, independent woman and who had the voice of an angel and whose hair looked just like mine. Suffice it to say, Ariel was a pretty important figure in my childhood life. Normally, when it comes to casting movies, even if I don't agree with the actors who land the roles, I shrug and move on with life because there are more important things to worry about. But when it comes to Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, the idea of Lindsay Lohan in the title role simply will not stand.

Lohan posted a side-by-side comparison of herself and Ariel to Instagram, presumably because she's pitching herself for the role.

Lindsay Lohan wants to play Ariel in Little Mermaid 2

Lindsay Lohan wants to play Ariel in Little Mermaid 2

Lohan definitely looks the part, which is great. If this were based on looks alone, she would nail it, and I would shut up and happily buy my tickets to see the movie. But there is one really, really big problem with the idea of Lohan playing Ariel. She can't sing Ariel's music. I know that saying that is going to irritate some Lohan fans out there because she did take a respectable stab at a music career. But Lohan simply doesn't have the right sound for the delicate soprano songs that Ariel sings. I don't want a pop-punk version of Ariel. I want the songs I used to dance around the kitchen singing as a little girl. I don't think Lohan can deliver that.

If there's one thing we've learned from the previews that have come out for Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, it's that the music cannot be an afterthought to casting a famous face for the role. Emma Watson is an incredible actress, but her extremely heavily auto-tuned version of "Something There" is an irritating mess of a great song. Disney, don't make the same mistake twice.

Blac Chyna Seems Terrible for Rob Kardashian's Health

Once again, Rob Kardashian's health could be in serious danger, and reportedly, his family is super-worried he's going to end up hospitalized for the second time in recent months.

More: Rob Kardashian's Sticking to His New Year's Resolution After Being Hospitalized

An insider close to the family told Hollywood Life that Kardashian's latest breakup with Blac Chyna could very well be the last — after months of being on and off, the source says they're done for good this time — and that Kardashian's health is suffering under all the stress from the split.

"Rob is not taking this well," the insider said. "The latest issues with Blac Chyna have totally derailed him."

The source continued, "He’s back to emotional eating, which is dangerous for his diabetes. His family’s so worried about him. He could end up in the hospital over this. They’re very scared for him. His health is a real issue."

Kardashian was first diagnosed with diabetes in December 2015, though he later claimed that Chyna had cured him of the disease.

"Chyna and I had a really big talk and she told me that by having her cook for me, my diabetes would be gone," he told People magazine last year. "And it is."

More: Rob Kardashian & Blac Chyna's Split Wasn't Forever, but No One's Really Surprised

But Kardashian was hospitalized just before the New Year because of complications related to his diabetes. That health scare also happened during a time that he and Chyna were on the rocks. It was right after screen shots from Chyna's phone were released online, showing her talking about using Kardashian for his fame and calling him "fat" and "lazy." Soon after that, Kardashian posted a bizarre Snapchat story showing that Chyna had suddenly moved out of their home and taken all the furniture with her. They got back together within a few weeks only to split again this month.

There's definitely a pattern here, and it's that the stress of his frequent breakups with Chyna seem to have an ill effect on Kardashian's health. Maybe she's doing the opposite of curing his diabetes. Just a thought.

Tarek El Moussa Just Posted More Evidence Against the Rumors About His Divorce

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The rumors surrounding Tarek and Christina El Moussa's divorce aren't quite believable. There's plenty of evidence of this, like how they broke up six months before they made any public announcement about their split and no one caught on. Meanwhile, the rumors are still flying about how hostile they are to each other, particularly on the set of Flip or Flop, where they're allegedly being forced to continue to film together.

More: Christina & Tarek El Moussa Filed for Divorce, but Their Co-Parenting Is on Point

That must be why Tarek decided to bring the kids to set — you know, because it's such a hostile environment.

"On #set today with my #loves!!:I love creating #memories on camera together.. many many #years from now we will sit with our #grandkids and binge watch #fliporflop!! So #lucky to do what we do! Just LOVE them," he wrote alongside the photo of him holding his 6-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son, followed by a string of heart emojis.

Everyone in the pic looks happy and not at all traumatized, so either everyone decided to tone down their hostility on bring-the-kids-to-work day or there just isn't rampant hate abounding on the set of Flip or Flop like anonymous sources keep saying and the El Moussas keep denying.

By all means, though, let's all believe the tabloid stories over the actual humans involved in the "hostile" divorce — they're probably much more reliable.

David Cassidy Opens Up About His Dementia Diagnosis

Getting old isn't for the weak, and David Cassidy is learning it the hard way.

More: The Partridge Family Star David Cassidy Pleads Guilty to DWI

Cassidy opened up to People magazine about his dementia diagnosis, which explains the strange performance he had in Agoura Hills, Calif. just a few days back in which he forgot the lyrics to his own songs and fell off the stage.

"I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming," Cassidy told the outlet. Both his grandfather and grandmother also suffered from the disease.

He said he watched their demise and "feared I would end up that way."

Initially after news of Cassidy's troubling concert surfaced, it was thought Cassidy was abusing alcohol again. It was an addiction he battled just a few years ago after a string of DUIs landed him in court-ordered rehab in 2014. He and his wife of 23 years, Sue Shifrin-Cassidy, also called it quits at the end of 2014. Unfortunately, things only got worse for Cassidy from there. He filed for bankruptcy in 2015 and was charged with a hit-and-run in October 2015.

More: David Cassidy Ordered Into Rehab After 3rd DUI Arrest

But Cassidy told People he's focusing on enjoying life right now.

"I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions," he said. "I want to love. I want to enjoy life."

Cassidy is scheduled to continue his concert tour with three more performances throughout the country this year in March and June. It's unclear as of now if he is healthy enough to continue his tour, but he did continue with his performance last night in Santa Barbara. No word yet if that performance went more smoothly.

Aaron Carter Needs to Work on His Twitter Rant Strategy

Aaron Carter is in the news right now more than I ever thought he would be following his breakup with Hilary Duff in their child star days.

I guess all publicity is good publicity, which is a good thing for Carter, because right now he definitely isn't getting good publicity.

More: Hilary Duff Is Officially Creeped Out, All Thanks to Aaron Carter

Carter decided to prove that he isn't a racist after he made a racially-fueled comment during a concert by ranting on Twitter about how he has... get ready to facepalm... Mexican friends.

Oh yes, Carter went for the age old cliché of, "I'm not racist because I learned spanish for my ex-girlfriend" route.

Ironically, Carter then ended his rant with this tweet...

More: Aaron Carter Shares His Favorite Pickup Lines and They're the Worst

The hilarity of that aside, I don't really actually think Carter is a racist. Sure, his decision to say, "Bye, Felipe," to the hispanic man disrupting his concert was in poor taste (It was a play on the popular Youtube video, "Bye, Felicia"). But Carter made an unwise decision that led to him being attacked by the man, who returned after being escorted from the venue and punched Carter twice in the head while Carter was on stage.

Luckily, Carter wasn't seriously injured and, as he wrote on Twitter, "My face is still pretty though and untouched." And no... I don't think he was joking.

Despite the strangeness of this whole thing, there is no doubt Carter is making a name for himself in 2017 both with his music and his eccentricities.

Unfortunately, it looks like those dreams have been shattered.

Entertainment Tonight spotted the couple enjoying a romantic night out together, complete with all sorts of PDA. Then, to top it off, Murray chatted with the outlet about the images.

"You know, we're trying to deal with stuff in a more private manner now, obviously, and we just kind of want people to respect that, and especially because it's a tough situation with the kids, and we don't want to kind of fully dive into anything, because we're thinking about them as well," Murray explained.

He added, "This is the first time I've seen her in a while. When I came out this week, I came for one of my friend's events, and I did some other stuff while I was here, and we ran into each other and stuff. You know, we just had long conversations. They were conversations that needed to be had, and [we had] a great dinner and everything like that."

Oh really, Josh? Everything like that? Aka. So much smoochin' and he liked it.

Though Murray maintained he is still single, he did say he and Stanton were working through some things together.

It sounds like the two are handling it in a very mature manner so it's at this point in the article, I regret wishing for a tell-all book. Of course, I'm the immature one over here!
