20 Things You Didn't Know About Drake

$

0

He started from the bottom, now he's here — yet somehow Drake has managed to keep a charming sense of mystery about him. Maybe it's because he went from Canadian teen soap star to international household name pretty much overnight, but we still can't really figure this guy out.

Drake's chart-topping hits keep coming year after year, but even his revealing rhymes don't answer the question: Who's the guy behind those dark and smoldery eyes? Now that he is reportedly hot and heavy with Jennifer Lopez, the public's need to know anything and everything about him has hit a fever pitch. So let's dig into the little that we do know, shall we?

1. He broke an American Music Awards record

Drake GIF
Image: Giphy

In October 2016, Drake set the record for most AMA nominations. He raked in 13 noms — beating Michael Jackson's 11 nominations from 1984. Drake's nominated for Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Rap Artist and more. And if he wins just one award, it'll be his first AMA win ever.

2. Drake rose to fame as a Canadian TV star

Drake joined the cast of Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2001, when he was only 15 years old. He played Jimmy Brooks, a basketball star who had to use a wheelchair after being shot.

3. His real name is Aubrey Graham

Drake GIF
Image: Giphy

Drake is actually his middle name. And we get it — Aubrey Graham just isn't a great rapper name, TBH.

4. He's the biggest chart topper — for men

It's not just all talk and humble brags. As of August 2016, the indomitable Drake has spent 46 consecutive weeks on the top 10 singles chart, setting a new record for male artists. Before Drake broke the mold, The Weeknd was close behind at 45 consecutive weeks in 2015.

5. He dated Rihanna (probably)

Drake & Rihanna GIF
Image: Giphy

While many people remember the infamous fight between Chris Brown and Drake at a nightclub, not as many people remember the reason for the fight. "It's embarrassing, the amount of media coverage,” he said, according to the New York Daily News. “Two rappers fighting over the woman. He's not even a rapper, but still, it's the last way you want your name out there. It distracts from the music. But he's made me the enemy, and that's the way it's gonna stay, I guess."

The relationship was rumored, but the fight and the aftermath made it seem like he was protecting his girlfriend. As of 2016, reports of Drake and Rihanna's secret romance are still alive. Rihanna even kissed Drake in public after his very emotional ode to her during the 2016 MTV VMAs.

6. He hasn't been in love (yet)

When Drake spoke with GQ magazine in 2013 about his relationship with Rihanna, he said that he realized he'd never loved her.

"I had lunch the other day with someone I extremely look up to. I had lunch with Will Smith, and listening to him talk, it made me think I don't know what love is," he told GQ. "He said something profound. He said love is when you become one and you need that person. It's not about wanting any more — you need that person. Hearing that, I don't know if I've ever felt that way."

Could Lopez be the person who finally becomes one with Drake? Only time will tell.

7. He's a good skater

Hailing from Canada, does this even come as a surprise? Drake's a triple threat in the music, acting and (maybe) dancing department, and now he can add ice-skating to his showbiz resume. One of Drake's sources confirmed that he took Rihanna ice-skating on a friendly type of date to help her work on her moves. Swoon.

Next up: He's got a weird fan base

8. He's got a weird fan base

And by weird, we mean weirdly wonderful. If it's not an internet tidal wave of playful haters poking fun at Drake's "Hotline Bling" dad dancing, it's hilarious fans who aspire to combine their love of rap with their love of baked goods. Just recently, a Drake-inspired foodie Instagram account surfaced, featuring adorable little cakes decorated with his song lyrics. (Because YOLO.)

9. He's a bad dancer IRL

Drake GIF
Image: Giphy

Speaking of "Hotline Bling" (only the funniest meme fodder to hit the interwebs in 2015), Drake's viral dad dance may be an actual reflection of how he gets down in real life. MTV caught Drake awkwardly dancing to a courtside beat at the L.A. Clippers game that same year, and fans have witnessed plenty of his "unique" dance moves at his live shows.

10. He is Canadian

Drake was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1986 (and even played hockey as a child).

11. He was raised Jewish

Drake GIF
Image: Giphy

Drake’s mother is a Jewish Canadian, and he attended a Jewish Day School and even had a bar mitzvah.

Drake gif

12. He makes his own whiskey

Canadian whiskey, Canadian rapper— surely you can see where this is heading. When Drake posted the first look at his new whiskey to his Instagram account, he was met with an overwhelming response. If all goes well, Drake's latest business venture, Virginia Black Whiskey, could be the new rap spirit of choice, though the word is still out on whether or not Drake's whiskey is actually Canadian.

13. He has appeared in children’s programs, including Ice Age: Continental Drift

Drake is not only still acting but he is doing some voice acting as well. He appeared in Ice Age: Continental Drift in 2012, as Ethan, the young mammoth.

Next up: He started his rap career through a series of mixtapes

{pageBreak}

14. He started his rap career through a series of mixtapes

Drake began making mixtapes in 2006 and started gaining national attention. He was featured on BET and was supported by rappers Kanye West, Jay Z and Lil Wayne. He was finally signed to Universal Motown in 2009.

15. It runs in the family

Where did Drake get his ridiculous rap talent from? While he was raised by his single mother in Canada, his musical prowess might be all in the family. Drake's father, Dennis Graham, was a drummer who played with Jerry Lee Lewis, and Drake's uncle Larry Graham also played bass for Prince.

16. He has written songs for artists such as Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx

Drake has won numerous awards for his songwriting abilities. He wrote "Un-Thinkable" for Alicia Keys and co-wrote "Fall For Your Type" for Jamie Foxx.

17. He has a crush on Nicki Minaj

Drake GIF
Image: Giphy

Drake admitted back in 2010 that Nicki Minaj was his inspiration for "Un-Thinkable." He told MTV in 2010 about his crush.

"I've always really, actually, really had a crush on her, always really loved her, and she's always just looked at me as, like, her little brother," he said.

18. He is a fan of the Miami Heat

Drake GIF
Image: Giphy

Drake was videotaped outside the Heat’s locker room after their victory in Game 7 of the NBA finals on June 20, 2013. The video shows Drake being denied access because he didn’t have a media pass.

19. He has a thing for gorgeous pools

Before he was a big deal, Drake spent a lot of time Googling epic residential pools and dreaming of his "someday" mansion when he made it big. Drake finally bought his first home in L.A. after becoming a multimillionaire. The home, worth $7.7 million, came with one of the same beautiful pools Drake had seen while Googling — with an 80-foot waterslide, flat-screen TVs in the grotto, elk statues and flame-spitting iron torches. Drake's property was aptly named "YOLO Estate."

20. He has a heart of gold

Drake and Rihanna with a fan
Image: Drake/Instagram

As if you needed one more reason to dig on Drake beyond his mad music skills, he's known for taking time out of his busy schedule to give back. While this story only adds fuel to the ongoing Drake-and-Rihanna rumor mill, the pair posted a picture of themselves visiting a fan who had cancer (and was also a Drake superfan), following Drake's surprise cameo at Rihanna's concert in Miami.

According to Drake's No. 1 fan, Megan, the visit was the "best day of [her] life."

Paris Jackson Is Ready To Follow in The Footsteps of her Superstar Dad

Since Michael Jackson's death, his daughter Paris Jackson has been keeping the family name alive by letting her voice be heard online. She spoke out against bullying. She successfully stopped the controversial airing of an Urban Myth's episode about her father with the help of fans. And she is in discussions to star in Lee Daniels' upcoming Fox television show, Star.

More: Paris Jackson's trip to Neverland Ranch has created quite a buzz

And that's just in the last few months.

Now, Paris is taking that presence up a notch with some big plans in 2017.

Paris has reportedly teamed up with Rod Stewart's longtime manager Arnold Stiefel to help develop and guide her professional career, Page Six reports.

More: What the heck? We can't believe people still think Michael Jackson is alive

Though Paris does reportedly play music and write her own songs, she isn't interested in a recording contract just yet. However, according to Page Six, Paris is more interested in modeling and acting.

"I've had self-esteem issues for a really, really long time," Paris said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. "Plenty of people think I'm ugly, and plenty of people don't. But there's a moment when I'm modeling where I forget about my self-esteem issues and focus on what the photographer's telling me – and I feel pretty. And in that sense, it's selfish."

More: Paris Jackson thinks her mom is a major badass for the way she's battling cancer

It would seem that Paris would have future plans to launch a singing career, though, since you wouldn't sign with Steifel without some plans for a big musical career. Maybe she's hoping that the gig with Lee Daniels' Star, if it comes through, will be a good catalyst for her in the upcoming year. Maybe she's hoping to become more comfortable in her skin through modeling and acting before taking that vulnerable leap.

Either way, something tells me there are big things in store for her.

Do you think Paris Jackson will eventually follow in her father's footsteps with a singing career?

How Celebs Are Taking Action After President Trump's Muslim Ban

One of Donald Trump's recent executive orders has provoked an immediate, strong, and vocal response among citizens worldwide.

Widely referred to as the Muslim Ban, CNN explains that the order keeps "...refugees from entering the country for 120 days and immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim nations out for three months."

More: 13 Celebs Who Refuse to Perform at Donald Trump's Inauguration — and 4 Who Agreed

The order caught many by surprise, including the Justice Department and Homeland Security, but as news of the ban spread and stories emerged of families being separated and legal residents being prevented from entering the country, protesters showed up en masse to American international airports to resist the order many are calling xenophobic and short-sighted.

Celebs were among the hundreds of thousands who also took to social media to express shock and dismay about Trump's statement — made worse for many by the fact that it was released on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Jennifer Lawrence

Lawrence shared strong feelings of disappointment in a Facebook post.

Hollywood celebs often come under fire for speaking out on political issues, a common criticism being that they have no business discussing politics and should stick to acting, singing, or performing. But I take the opposite view; America's cult of celebrity means that Hollywood's rich and famous have access to a far larger audience than many politicians or lawmakers and the effects of their words and deeds can be profound and far-reaching.

In addition, celebrities are citizens of this country first and foremost and they are doing what we all should be — speaking out instead of staying silent, making their dissent known and their resistance vocal. It's the only way we're going to get through the next four years with our country intact.

Meri Brown Has Found a New Sisterhood Outside of Sister Wives

Meri Brown is working on getting back to normalcy in her life after her catfishing scandal, which drew so much of the family's focus over the past year.

But in 2017, she's clearly moving on and so should the rest of us.

More: The Sister Wives family presents an unexpected argument for polygamy

Not only is Meri working on her relationship with husband Kody Brown through counseling, but she is also working on her individual happiness. She has launched her own business, a pop-up clothing boutique called LuLaRoe.

The LuLaRoe business model is similar to that of Mary Kay, in that individuals can become their own retailers and sell at their convenience. The products are sold through in-home boutiques and through online outlets retailers establish themselves.

More: Not everyone in the Sister Wives family is happy Mariah came out

Meri has set up a Facebook page for her retail sales and has already garnered over 15,000 members. No surprise, given her Sister Wives' fame.

Thanks to LuLaRoe it also looks like Meri has found a version of sisterhood outside of her Sister Wives. (Though she's still keeping those ladies close too.)

"I am blessed and so happy to be on this #LuLaRoe journey with @lularoemaile and so many other fabulous women who only want to bless and build others up," Meri wrote on her Instagram.

Meri might have a problem with her business model though... It looks like she might wear more of the clothes then she sells! I kid... I kid... kind of.

Kanye West may need to find a new reason to boycott the Grammys

$

Women are marching in the streets for equal rights, immigrants are banned from our country, and Kanye West is boycotting the Grammys. What is the world coming to?!

More: Kanye West's squashing the Kim Kardashian West divorce rumors with one photo

Apparently, as reported by Us Weekly, West got his panties in a bunch because Frank Ocean's album Blonde wasn't nominated this year.

In a rant during his Oakland, Calif. concert on Oct. 22, West explained, "The album I listened to the most this year is Frank Ocean's album. I'll tell you this right now: If his album is not nominated in no categories, I'm not showing up to the Grammys. As artists, we've got to come together to fight the bulls--t."

Ocean is also reportedly upset and TMZ said Ocean thinks the Grammys don't "represent young, black artists."

More: Kim Kardashian West is just trying to fool you with that sneaky social media gag

West clearly agrees. It's a move that mirrors last year's efforts to boycott the Oscars, but this time the considerations are a little different. It turns out, Ocean's label didn't submit either of his albums, which were released in 2016, for consideration for awards, which means it isn't the Grammys' fault Ocean wasn't nominated. It sounds like Ocean needs to talk to his representation.

Ocean previously won two Grammys in 2013.

Now, I wouldn't blame West if he spoke out and said his decision to go was purely based on the fact that he's had a crazy couple of months. Kim Kardashian West's Paris robbery, coupled with West's health issues and hospitalization, means West more than deserves some downtime.

In fact, a source told Us Weekly, "He is taking some personal time at the top of this year to just chill and decompress."

More: Turns out Kanye West's public meltdown was not just caused by exhaustion

Now that is a reason to skip the Grammys I can get behind.

Do you believe West is boycotting the Grammys for Frank Ocean or does he just want to avoid the spotlight right now?

The Bachelor prediction: Will Corrine make it through the date?

$

0

Not to turn to ye ol' Bachelor cliche, but what the heck: This was the most dramatic two-on-one date ever.

More: The Bachelor's Corinne actually had a point about that Taylor 'tude

And we haven't even gotten to see the end of it because The Bachelor, apparently, loves to torture us all almost as much as Corrine loves stabbing pins into her new Taylor voodoo doll.

the bachelor corinne voodoo doll

the bachelor corinne voodoo doll

Look, there is just no way this whole scenario is going to go well for Taylor. That doesn't mean I can't wait to watch it unfold.

I also really don't think there's anyway Nick Viall is going to take the advice of the embittered woman he just sent home and decide to take Corinne's rose back. Sorry, it ain't gonna happen. There's no way.

More: This season's Bachelor contestants take "wrong reasons" to a whole new level

Here's what I do think will go down.

Taylor will show up and whine to Nick about how much she hates Corinne and how Corinne lied and how Corinne is all wrong for him, etc. etc. etc. Nick will thank her for letting him know. They'll hug, super awkwardly. She'll leave. Nick and Corinne will have some serious conversations about what Corinne wants, and they'll go home after making out some more.

Once the ladies realize Corinne is staying over Taylor, they will lose their shit. Hence the sneak peek we saw for next week.

the bachelor episode 6 sneak peek

the bachelor episode 6 sneak peek

Let's take a moment to analyze what's happening in this teaser.

"I don't think anyone was really expecting to see two people go home on the two on one," someone, maybe Jasmine, says over scenes of luggage being taken away from the house. My guess is this is some clever camera tricks making us think Corinne will leave as well when, really, the girls are just at the house discussing what they think will happen on the date, not knowing the outcome yet.

"He's a grown ass man. He's done this three time. I wanna, like, choke him," Jasmine then says to the cameras. I'm assuming she's referring the fact that he's continually picked Corinne despite the warnings against her.

More: Corinne's mom refuses to believe her daughter got naked on The Bachelor

Then cue the tears. Lots of them. Even from Nick. Especially from Nick.

"I just want to be honest because, um, I just kind of felt like I had a new low," Nick says between the tears, "because I think my biggest fear right now is, like, is the same thing going to happen? I really want this to work out, but I want it to be real. I want it to be right."

This statement again seems obvious: Nick is scared that he'll be rejected like he was with Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe.

I think this one can be explained away too, though. Most, if not all, Bachelor and Bachelorettes go through a period of self-doubt on the season. That's what makes the happy finale all the more rewarding. If the story doesn't have a struggle then it starts to drag. Oh, hey, reality TV, I see you.

All in all, I doubt the end to the two-on-one date is really going to be as dramatic as we all think (and secretly hope for because, let's be real, we're monsters for drama.)

Corinne will most likely, eventually, have her downfall, but I don't think it will be next week.

How do you think next week's episode will go down?

Ellen DeGeneres Schooled President Trump on the Fishy Politics of Finding Dory

$

0

If anyone was going to hit the nail right on the head about the ridiculousness of the immigration ban, it was going to be Ellen Degeneres. Right? Degeneres hit out at President Trump on Monday following an intense weekend of protesting over Trump's proposed immigration ban. Not one to remain quiet about such matters, Degeneres seized on the opportunity to connect Finding Dory, the film Trump chose to screen at the White House over the weekend and a film which stars Degeneres, to the immigration ban. However, Degeneres did it in her uniquely sly way and did it with such aplomb that it should be the one shareable, teachable moment you can spread around right now.

More: Ellen DeGeneres is not here for Kim Burrell's homophobia

The beauty of Degeneres' comedy is that she is able to make observations about the world in such a way that even the most unlikely things take on a whole new meaning. Such was the case when she decided to discuss the plot of Finding Dory at the top of Monday's episode of The Ellen Show. While covering the events of the weekend, which included President's Trump's immigration ban and the fact that the first film he screened at the White House was Finding Dory.

Ellen Show Finding Dory Immigration

Ellen Show Finding Dory Immigration

"I don't get political, but I will say that I am against one of those things," Degeneres quipped. She continued: "Like I said, I don't like to get political, so I'm not going to talk about the travel ban I'm going to talk about the very non-political, family-friendly, People's Choice Award-winning Finding Dory." I think it's safe to say we all know where this is going right?

More: Ellen DeGeneres is Hollywood's secret mean girl according to Kathy Griffin

Degeneres proceed to summarize the plot of Finding Dory but do it in such a fashion that it became an immigration story. In doing so, she schooled President Trump on exactly the fact that the film he enjoyed over the weekend had a deeper meaning than it superficially appears.

"Dory lives in Australia. Her parents live in America. [...] Dory arrives in America with her friends Marlin and Nemo. She ends up at the Marine Life Institute behind a large wall and they all have to get over the wall. You won't believe it, but that wall has almost no effect on keeping them out." It was at this point that the audience erupted into cheers and applause because the mention of a wall (something Trump has proposed building in order to curtail illegal immigration), Degeneres' point was beginning to crystallize.

Finding Dory GIF
Image: Giphy

But it was Degeneres' final observation about Finding Dory that really hit home. "Even though Dory gets into America, she gets separated from her family. But, the other animals help Dory. Animals that don’t even need her, animals that don’t even have anything in common with her. They help her even though they’re completely different colors because that’s what you do when you see someone in need: you help them."

More: Finding Dory might be beating Frozen 2 to the LGBT punch

Degeneres deserves all the applause right now because she absolutely nailed it.

Small Details You May Have Missed in That Ocean's Eight First-Look Picture

$

There is no room for man-spreading in this subway car: a new crop of criminal masterminds is here, and the future of heists is female. Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first official image from Ocean’s Eight, due out in June 2018, and we couldn’t be more excited about the all-lady cast, even if as pictured, they seem serious as hell.

What do we know so far? This reboot follows the Ocean’s trilogy  —  which was a bit of a sausage party with George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt  —  as well as the original 1960’s Ocean’s 11, which was also basically just a bunch of dudes. Although filming has taken place around New York City since October, we don’t know much about the plot, except that Sandra Bullock will play the lead as the sister of Clooney’s Danny Ocean character and that the girls are planning to pull off something big at the Met Gala. We’re guessing that’s going to involve some amazing costumes, some organized stealing and the amazing chase scenes we’ve come to expect from the franchise. Let’s hope everyone sports flats for a quick getaway.

More: 21 movie sequels expected to be released through 2018

There are also some male love interests in the film, but to be honest, we aren’t super-interested in discussing them when we have this subway car of awesomeness to analyze.

Here’s our public transportation roll call.

Sandra Bullock (Debbie Ocean):

Bullock is looking very much like the leading lady with a stylish down-the-middle hair part and a faux-fur coat that we’ll assume was a real steal. What’s in the leopard-print bag? We’re guessing the master plan for the heist or maybe her Oscar and Golden Globe. We’d carry them everywhere too, Sandra.

Cate Blanchett (Lou):

Blanchett is sitting next to Bullock rocking a black and white coat. She doesn’t have a bag for her awards because she has way, way too many of them to travel with. We admit she looks almost mad  —  maybe she’s taking this heist extremely seriously, as she should, or maybe she’s upset the cast decided to #DeleteUber and take the train.

Sarah Paulson (Tammy):

Paulson also has her game face on — we don’t think even the most well-meaning unwoke male commuter would have the gall to suggest that she smile more. Is she also traveling with a piece of rolling luggage? We’re going to guess that it’s packed with the perfect picnic lunch for her love Holland Taylor — maybe some meats and cheeses, a baguette, strawberries and two carefully wrapped Champagne glasses — all set to shatter our #RelationshipGoals. Either that or it’s filled with stolen art.

More: These are the 16 movies getting a ton of Oscar buzz right now

Anne Hathaway (Daphne Kulger):

Hathaway looks like she doesn’t want to be recognized in her dark sunglasses and green trench coat, either because she just stole something priceless or because she tires of the constant adulation of fans. Is she someone who stands in empty subway cars because of germs or because she’s silently working on her quads?

Rihanna (Nine Ball):

Rihanna is sitting on the train just like we imagine someone named Nine Ball would. No fancy fur coat or Oscars needed  —  Rihanna is ready to roll with her eight Grammys and a pair of jeans with the perfect ripped knee.

Mindy Kaling (Amita):

Kaling looks eye-popping in a red coat and dress, and in this case, no one is hanging out without her. Mindy has a new project, and we’re guessing it’s heist-related.

Helena Bonham Carter (Rose):

Bonham Carter is dressed in all black and obviously totally ready to break some laws and not get caught. If we were making a list of eight women needed to pull off the perfect crime, yep, Carter would be on the top of our list.

Lum might not have a bag of awards or a Wikipedia page that scrolls just yet, but she is a rising star who also knows that if you sit in the very back of the subway car, it is easier to escape if you are being pursued by the police (or if a terrible street performer starts performing). Pharrell and His Wife Had Triplets a Month Ago and We're Finding Out Now?!

Pharrell Williams, you sneaky man.

No biggie. The singer and his wife, Helen Lasichanh, had some triplets. Yaaaawn. When? Oh, early January. Again, no big whoop.

Pharrell, Helen, we’re totally kidding. TRIPLETS? In early January? And we’re just finding out now?

Williams’ rep confirmed the news to Vanity Fair. Names? Boys? Girls? Alas, seems like we’ll have to wait a little longer for that info. It's almost as if their privacy and right to enjoy their new babies is more important than our celebrity news machine.

More: Who is Pharrell Williams' wife, really?

Williams and Lasichanh, winners of the Best Kept Secret award, did let the world know that they were expecting in September 2016. At the time, Lasichanh revealed a (Must we? Must we use the term? Fine.) baby bump at a swanky Chanel-hosted dinner to celebrate their new fragrance No. 5 L’eau.

More: Pharrell Williams marries longtime girlfriend

Even her baby bump was cooperating, giving no sign at all that THREE babies were on their way. The couple already has one son, Rocket Williams — who is either going to get all the babes when he grows up or, you know, spend a whole lot of time with his high school astrophysics club buddies.

Is Squirting Just Peeing? A Doctor Answers Your Most Pressing Pelvic Health Questions

$

0

What's the difference between "squirting" and just peeing a little? What can be done to rehab your pelvic floor after giving birth? How common is pelvic pain? Dr. Susie Gronski, physical therapist and certified pelvic rehabilitation practitioner answers all your burning questions.

Gronski isn't an M.D. or gynecologist — she describes herself as a "physiotherapist for your privates," training both women and men on how to be their own expert in treating whatever's going on "down there."

SheKnows: What don’t you do?

Susie Gronski: If you’ve got something more than muscle-based pain like smelly ejaculate, blood in your urine, weird lumps and bumps that just popped outta nowhere, fever or chills, go see an M.D. They’re the guys who do all the blood tests and scans to make sure nothing more serious is going on.

More: You Should Know a Thing Or Two About Squirting

SK: What can you tell us about "squirting"?

SG: First, the name is misleading — it isn’t [an] über amount, so it isn’t super-wet like we see in porn. Authentic female ejaculate is a mixture of diluted urine and prostate-like fluid. It is created by a tiny little gland next to your urethra... when fluid comes out of the vagina during intercourse.

SK: How can you tell if its urine or prostate fluid?

SG: Other than checking the amount, you can do a smell test. If it smells like pee, it is pee. And a third option —that I don't advise unless you check with you doc first — is to test with AZO urine strips.

SK: Do you think this recent obsession with “squirting” is in anyway tied to the porn industry? Has anyone contacted you asking about it?

SG: I have only had one woman ask about it virtually, but I believe that is because some people think that a large amount of fluid is normal. I think I would have more questions if people were more comfortable asking these types of questions.

SK: I have heard you mention coital incontinence before. I know incontinence means unintentional urinating or defecating. From what we discussed, coital incontinence is often mistaken for female ejaculate. How are they different and what is it?

SG: It is likely coital incontinence if it is a large amount. There are two kinds of coital incontinence: leaking during orgasm and leaking during penetration. When it happens during orgasm, it’s associated with overactive bladder. In other words, the bladder is contracting during orgasm, which leads to incontinence.

More: The Orgasm Shot That Upgraded My Sex Life

SK: Other than coital incontinence, what are signs that you could be having pelvic health issues?

SG: If you have any pain in the butt, hip or abdomen, you need to need to check on the state of your pelvis. Other surprising signs include painful periods, frequent peeing and constipation.

SK: Oh wow, I thought a lot of those issues were common.

SG: Common yes, normal no. And also, if you have persistent genital arousal syndrome.

SK: How common is pelvic pain?

Pelvic pain affects 1 in 7 women. Up to 20 percent of women experience pelvic pain at some point in their lives. You can treat this and other issues with pelvic floor therapy.

SK: What is pelvic floor therapy?

SG: In a nutshell, pelvic floor therapy helps with issues such as incontinence, constipation, pain with intercourse, pre- and postnatal care, post-surgical scarring and so much more.

SK: What are some other signs that someone needs pelvic floor therapy?

SG: Dyspareunia, which is pain during/after intercourse; vulvar or labial pain; painful periods; abdominal pain; tailbone pain; pain with sitting; groin pain; frequent urinary tract infections; pain during bowel movements or constipation. Common yes, normal no. And also pain or difficulty with orgasm/persistent genital arousal disorder... PGAD.

SK: What is PGAD?

SG: It's pretty much hypersexuality without sexual intention (with or without orgasm). A lot of women who have it experience multiple unstimulated orgasms, and they’re painful.

SK: Oh, that sounds rough. What happens when you don’t orgasm?

SG: Lack of orgasm means the blood flow doesn’t get the chance to return, and if the blood flow does not return you are not getting rid of toxins.

SK: Are there any other benefits from orgasms?

SG: Yes! They release feel-good hormones, help with sleep, fight congestion, helps with memory and cognitive function, improves relationships and helps with confidence.

More: 7 Lousy Reasons Women Aren't Achieving Orgasms

SK: How common is PGAD?

SG: We aren’t really sure yet. It’s still a developing area of research in the medical community. I’m hoping we get to learn more soon.

SK: How much of that do you think is because some women don’t talk sex?

SG: Good question. In order to do the research, you have to have test subjects. And in order to have subjects, we have to have a sample of women who are comfortable discussing these topics.

We don’t know exact rates, but I am fairly certain it is underreported — culture and sometimes religious beliefs influence women's perspective of speaking on these topics.

SK: What causes urinary incontinence?

SG: A weak or overly tight pelvic floor. Many factors like birthing children, activities and menopausal stage.

SK: So, does age directly influence coital incontinence and/or urinary incontinence?

SG: Not really. It’s more that your muscle integrity changes when your estrogen levels drop. The drop in estrogen causes thin, weak pelvic floor muscles. Thinner muscles mean less control. However, you are at a substantially higher risk for coital incontinence if you have incontinence with other daily activities such as running, sneezing or laughing.

SK: Since estrogen changes are hormonal, what can be done to combat menopause-related issues?

SG: Exercise is the No. 1 way to treat a lot of these issues. Also, stress management helps a lot and hormone replacement therapy can be used for more urgent cases.

SK: So many of these issues seem so common!

SG: As I said before, these things are common, but not normal. Vaginal deliveries stretch not just the vagina but the bladder and the urethra. Everything in your body has changed and it is important to rehab theses areas. You would go to rehab if you were in an accident that limited your mobility, so why not get rehab postpartum, you know?

SK: Speaking of hormone therapy, how can we keep these issues in mind when working with transgender individuals? Does an increase in gender-affirming surgeries relate to these topics?

Yes! Definitely! After gender-affirming surgery it is particularly important to learning how to reconnect with your areas.

You will have to rehabilitate have those muscles, and those of us in my profession have the ability to teach them how to relearn and be comfortable with their bodies. I believe it is important for health care providers to address the needs of all people. I am doing what I can to help that population as best as possible.

VPR's 'White Kanye' James Kennedy Really Can't Rap, Like, at All

OK, I've been a bad Vanderpump Rules fan and I did not watch last night's episode because some horrible person in TV world scheduled it at the same time as The Bachelor and some tough decisions had to be made.

Still, it only takes one minute and 41 seconds to watch the undisputed highlight of the night: DJ James Kennedy, aka the White Kanye (as he calls himself), aka that raging douche nugget we all wish would just go away already... rapping — yes, I said rapping — on Watch What Happens Live.

And oh, it is as bad as you think. In fact, it's worse. Kennedy is as white as the freshly fallen snow, and he has no rhythm, and his accent is so thick it honestly just sounds like a joke, except Kennedy is not anywhere near the level of self-awareness necessary for that performance to be a joke. White Kanye he is not. Not in his wildest dreams.

The Consequences of Diagnosing Donald Trump With Mental Illnesses

$

The first week of the Trump administration ended the way it started, with mass protests across the country and many people still trying to wrap their heads around our new reality. For some, he has the qualities of a strong leader, while others fear that the presidency is held by someone with a serious and potentially dangerous mental illness. If the latter is the case, what can be done about it, and how would such a diagnosis even be made?

On Friday, an article in U.S. News & World Report raised the question: “[I]s this just a case of a president with predictable quirks, or is it something that raises concerns about Trump’s judgment and adherence to factual reality?”

More: Women's Marches Were the Post-Election Turning Point We Needed

In the same article, Johns Hopkins psychologist Dr. John D. Gartner said that “Donald Trump is dangerously mentally ill and temperamentally incapable of being president,” diagnosing him with malignant narcissism — which differs from narcissistic personality disorder and is incurable.

By saying this, Gartner knowingly violated the American Psychiatric Association’s ethics code, which prohibits practitioners from offering their professional opinion or diagnosing a public figure without first evaluating that person with their consent, arguing that Trump’s case warrants breaking the professional ethics regulation.

However, Dr. Celia B. Fisher, director of the Center for Ethics Education at Fordham University and chair the committee that wrote the current American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct cautions against using unofficial diagnoses as an excuse for Trump’s behavior.

“Dr. Gartner's unfounded ‘diagnoses’ of Donald Trump not only undermines public confidence in the professionally responsible assessment of mental health disorders, but such misuse of psychiatric terminology undermines our democracy by providing a 'mental health' excuse for Trump's false and authoritarian statements rather than a political analysis of the real world threats his words and actions present to our country,” Fisher told SheKnows.

More: It's a Better Time to Be a Woman Than a Man, According to Republican Men

But what about everyone else throwing around the narcissism diagnosis?

First, it’s important to recognize that there’s a difference between the dictionary definition of a narcissist (regarding a person’s egocentric character) and the mental health diagnosis of narcissistic personality disorder (which “crosses the border of healthy confidence into thinking so highly of yourself that you put yourself on a pedestal and value yourself more than you value others”). At this stage, the terms are used virtually interchangeably by many, but represent two very different scenarios.

Second, as Fisher pointed out, any diagnosis of Trump should not be used as a way of excusing or legitimizing his statements and actions. In order for a positive result to come from the diagnosis of narcissism, he would need to seek professional help and consent to a treatment program. Given his own description of his demeanor — “I think I have the best temperament or certainly one of the best temperaments of anybody that’s ever run for the office of president. Ever” — this seems unlikely.

What these diagnoses do accomplish, however, is to further stigmatize those who do struggle with personality disorders. When mental health terms become shorthand for character traits — like referring to someone who is extremely organized as “obsessive compulsive” — it reduces a legitimate psychiatric condition to a punchline.

So whether it’s the meticulously tidy colleague in the cubicle next to yours or the president of the United States, leave the diagnosing up to the professionals.

10 things about Pharrell's wife, Helen Lasichanh, you never knew

By now, you probably know that Pharrell Williams is a happily married man. But being that his gorgeous wife Helen Lasichanh is conspicuously missing from social media, there's not too much info about her out there for public consumption.

So who is the woman who stole the heart of one of music's (former) most eligible bachelors?

1. She cares about giving back

For the past two years in a row, Lasichanh and Williams have been spotted serving food to the less fortunate at the Los Angeles Mission Christmas Celebration.

2. She's a model and designer

3. Pharrell had to be super patient to win her over

When Williams and Lasichanh met, she had a boyfriend and wouldn't look twice at the handsome musician. He had to settle with just being friends with her for two and a half years, until she became single again, and even then he had to work hard. According to an interview with Oprah, she played hard to get, not even responding to half his texts! Looks like her ploy worked, though, because Pharrell doubled down on his determination until she fell for him.

4. She was his longtime girlfriend before they got hitched

Once they started dating, neither Williams nor Lasichanh were that eager to walk down the aisle until they were good and ready. The couple dated for years before confirming their engagement in July 2013 and were married just a few months later in October.

5. She wore plaid at her wedding

What else would you expect from an avant-garde fashionista at her wedding? On their big day, the trendsetting bride and groom reportedly wore plaid from head-to-toe, and many other guests dressed in tartans.

6. They look amazing together

When Eating Well Becomes a Disruptive Obsession

$

0

Every day when I check my Instagram, there are at least 10 “fitspo” accounts within the first few scrolls of my Explore page.

Even people I actually know and follow have used #Fitspo on their yoga, smoothie or otherwise healthy and active-looking snapshots.

I’ve also noticed an increase in the usage of the term “orthorexia.” For those who don’t know, orthorexia’s literal definition is “fixation on righteous eating.” While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to eat healthfully, those with orthorexia have an “unhealthy obsession” with doing so.

More: A Guide To Eating Healthy With Minimal Cooking Skills

While I would never equate a serious eating disorder with a simple Instagram trend, there’s no doubt fitness blogs and photos enhance the pressure to eat cleaner and exercise harder than everyone else on your social media feed. As near-constant consumers of social media, it is incredibly important to acknowledge that pressure, as well its potential ramifications. If you’d like to learn more about orthorexia, keep reading.

Is orthorexia a real eating disorder?

Yes, and while variations of it have likely existed before this time, its name was coined by Dr. Steven Bratman in 1996. Orthorexia has yet to be added to the latest DSM (the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders), which can cause some to question the validity of this disorder. However, there’s been some serious pushback to the DSM’s exclusion of the disorder, from psych professionals to orthorexia sufferers, most of which has been covered by multiple media outlets.

What makes orthorexia different from just following a healthy diet?

For someone with orthorexia, eating well becomes more than just a health issue; it becomes a moral issue. “The message in the past [in the health and dieting industry] has mainly been about thinness, but there’s been a turn and it’s become more about cleanness and purity,” says nutritional therapist Sondra Kronberg. “Those same people who struggle with compulsion and rigidity in their eating will take that cultural message to an extreme. It interferes with their quality of life.”

People with orthorexia don’t just want to eat clean; they feel it would be wrong and impure not to. This is where the interference with quality of life that Kronberg mentioned comes in. Someone who is not orthorexic and just eats clean may feel slightly disappointed if they stray from their healthy diet, but it won’t be the end of the world to them. Someone suffering from orthorexia will obsess over that one “mistake” and likely push themselves to be even more restrictive in their diets because of it. Like many other people suffering from an eating disorder, those with orthorexia use food as a form of control in their lives and “seek self-esteem and spiritual fulfillment through controlling food intake.”

More: Tips for Eating Healthy on a Budget

What are the signs and symptoms of orthorexia?

Signs of orthorexia include thinking and obsessing over food constantly and equating eating good foods with being good yourself, as illustrated perfectly in this Broadly article. People with orthorexia may isolate themselves from others because so much of their life revolves around food. People with orthorexia also “lose the ability to eat intuitively — to know when they are hungry, how much they need, and when they are full” because their diets are so restrictive.

A diet so strict can lead to hormonal imbalances and health issues such as hair loss, loss of menstruation, anemia and osteoporosis. Orthorexia also often coincides with other mental health issues, such as other eating disorders, depression, anxiety and OCD.

What treatment is available for orthorexia?

Many established eating disorder treatment centers have treatment plans in place for people with orthorexia or tailor recovery plans for each specific patient they take in. A huge part of orthorexia recovery is being able to separate your own value from the things you eat. It is important to recognize there is a problem and be able to identify the cause of that problem with the help of a professional. A professional can also help educate those in recovery about how to maintain a balanced diet that provides all of the nutrients a truly healthy body needs.

More: 7 Tips for Eating Healthy at the Airport

If you or someone you know might have orthorexia, know that you are not alone. Two summers ago, Instagram-famous vegan food blogger Jordan Younger came out as being orthorexic, citing an “'all or nothing' personality that made her prone to compulsive eating,” as well as the pressure that came from posting all of her meals on Instagram and her blog. She started “comparing herself to other people’s Instagrams” and suffered from “panic attacks and hormonal imbalances” as a result of orthorexia.

If you are questioning whether you or someone you know might have orthorexia, check out these questions on the National Eating Disorders website. Additional resources can be found here and here.

Today, it may be more important than ever that the voices of minorities are valued and given platforms where they can reach as many people as possible. That's why Oprah Winfrey's latest career move couldn't come at a better time.

CBS has announced that Winfrey, who hosted her talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show for 25 years, will join CBS as a special contributor to 60 Minutes this fall. Winfrey confirmed the collaboration with a statement that also confirmed what a queen she is.

"I’m so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling," she said. "At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds."

60 Minutes' executive producer Jeff Fager also released a statement, and clearly could hardly contain his excitement.

"There is only one Oprah Winfrey," he said. "She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life. She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for 60 Minutes."

Winfrey has been on the air less since she ended The Oprah Winfrey Show, but she's been working hard behind the scenes at the network she launched in 2011, OWN. There, she's produced and appeared on programs, though she hasn't been appearing regularly on TV since her show was on the air. Still, she's been far from out of the spotlight — in 2013, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest honor a civilian can earn in the U.S.

Boy Scouts Reverse Transgender Policy — but What Took Them So Long?

$
0
0

Yesterday, the Boy Scouts of America instituted a long-awaited policy change. They will no longer rely on birth certificates to determine a boy's eligibility for the Scouts, thereby clearing the way for transgender boys to join the organization.

More: 8-year-old boy kicked out of Boy Scouts for being transgender

We are so glad that, finally, all of the young men of today and tomorrow are now able to join an institution that has been around for over 100 years. That said, it's deeply unfortunate that it took until 2017 for this to happen. Why did it take so long? Why did it take so much longer than it did for the Girl Scouts?

Compared to the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts have always been ahead of their time: from their push for racially integrated troops in the 1950s to their inspiring move in 2015 to turn down a $100,000 donation that was offered on the condition that it not be used to support transgender scouts. Meanwhile, the Boy Scouts took their fights against inclusion all the way to the Supreme Court in 2000, when in a 5-4 ruling, the court decided that the Boy Scouts had the right to determine who could be included or excluded from membership — including gay boys and men. It wasn't until 2015 that they reversed their ban on gay scouts and troop leaders, and not until yesterday that they officially allowed transgender scouts.

More: Mom slammed for letting impressionable Boy Scouts see her breastfeed

There's no question that the Girl Scouts has evolved faster as an institution, but I believe that this difference is, at its core, based in sexism. Women have always had more fluid gender identities than men. Women can wear pants and cut their hair short and still be taken seriously. They can take on stereotypically masculine looks and still be considered feminine. Men, on the other hand, are allowed no such leeway; in order to be "a man" you must fall within narrow parameters of dress, appearance and behavior.

This is because it's fine for women to emulate men, because men are still thought of as the superior sex. It is not OK for men to emulate women because we are still considered weaker and less valuable.

Of course, homophobia and transphobia are their own kinds of hatred and fear. But I would argue that at their core is the belief that men are better than women and therefore it is far less acceptable for a boy or man to blur those boundaries than for a girl or woman to. The difference in the timelines of gay and transgender acceptance between the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts is a real-world example of how sexism is still a factor in our society that influences our policies and behavior.

Robin Thicke is reportedly not pulling his weight when it comes to co-parenting the 6-year-old son, Julian, whom he shares with Paula Patton.

More: Robin Thicke & Paula Patton's custody battle is taking a more amicable turn

After a judge awarded Patton temporary sole custody, Thicke was told he could have supervised visits with Julian up to three days a week. But a new report says that he only visited Julian once last week, and when given the chance for a second visit, he passed it up. In a custody battle that's been increasingly nasty and in and out of court, the Daily Mail reports that Thicke's decision not to spend time with Julian has sparked yet another fight between him and Patton — and all this comes just after Thicke was removed from Patton's home by police after going there and demanding to see Julian.

As a source close to Patton put it, "He did not exercise his right to spend time with his son and the monitor on Saturday, citing a business meeting. However, Paula offered alternate times that Julian could see Robin with the monitor that weekend, but he declined all visitation," adding, "These are the actions of a father who claimed he wanted to spend time with his son."

Meanwhile, a source close to Thicke says Patton is "trying to bury him."

"This is a concerted effort to prejudice the public against him. He has taken no such campaign against her," the insider said. "He’s taking this extremely seriously, and it’s unfortunate and very difficult when you’re on the receiving end of a campaign of negativity."
